 It is readily and economically available;
easily machinable; amenable to fabrication
into an infinite variety of sizes and shapes
using simple on-site building techniques.
 Exceptionally strong relative to its weight
 A good heat and electrical insulator;
 It is a renewable and biodegradable
resource.
 Particle board, also
known as particleboard
and chipboard.
 A structural material
made of wood
fragments, such as chips
or shavings, that are
mechanically pressed
into sheet form and
bonded together with
resin.
 Particle boards are produced largely from
agro waste materials, such as sugarcane
waste, jute waste etc.
 Particle boards have many desirable
properties such as high density, high
surface hardness, abrasion resistance,
high durability, ETC

 These boards can
either be bought bare
or it can be covered
with thin sheets of
veneer or a plastic
laminate, these two
materials give the
board a solid timber
look and feel while
costing marginally
less.

 Fiberboard is a type of
engineered wood
product that is made
out of wood fibers.
 Types of fiberboard
include particle board,
medium-density
fiberboard, and
hardboard.
 Fiberboard, particularly
medium-density
fiberboard (MDF), is
heavily used in the
furniture industry.

PLYWOOD MDF
Plywood I made up from solid wood
and thin layers of wood veneers are
glued together
Mdf board is made from wood fiber
Incurs some wastage during
manufacturing
Wastage of wood is nil and can be
made by mixing of variety of wood
fibers
Cannot be colored directly Are more attractive and can be
painted it in whatever color you want.
Can be simply nailed or screwed in
making furniture
it need certain techniques to join
Plywood furniture is more stronger
than mdf
Mdf furniture is not as strong as
plywood
 Hardboard made of
compressed wheat
straw, processed at
350°F - 400°F with
tough Kraft paper
 Structural board – 2” thick used for non-
bearing partitions, plaster base,
insulator, exterior sheathing, roof
decking, and inner form face for
concrete basement wall.
 Insulation grade – 2” thick, intended
primarily for roof deck insulation
 Strawboard panels
make an excellent
alternative to timber for
frame structures,
interior partition walls,
floors, load and non-
bearing ceilings, roofs,
and prefabricated
buildings.
 Useful where removal
of partitions is
frequent.
 Easy to construct.
 Heat and sound proof
partitions
 In the manufacturing process, high pressure and
temperatures up to 240°C forces the straw to
release a natural resin, which binds the fibers
together.
 The high density and low oxygen content of the
resulting panels makes them resistant to
combustion and, since they contain no added
resins, alcohol, or other chemicals, they don't
release flammable vapors.
 A standard 2¼-inch panel has a one-hour fire
rating, an R-value of 3, and noise level reductions
from one side to the other of 32 dB.
 For permanent protection against insects and
fungal decay and additional fire resistance, the
boron compound polybor can be factory added
to the core.
 The product's workability is similar to wood as it
can be sawn, drilled, routed, nailed, screwed,
and glued. Lightweight wall attachments such
as shelf brackets, picture frames, mirrors, and
towel bars can be attached directly to the panel.
Up to 35.2 lbs. of direct pull load and 79.2 lbs of
shear pull load can be achieved using screws.
