Narrative Essay On Time Traveler
The Time Traveler
Once on a Monday morning, Sizar was walking down the street to meet his cousin so they can
go eat. out of nowhere, a weird machine came out of thin air and said, come with me if you want
to live. The machine yelled. Sizar ran as fast as he can around the machine but right as he past it
the whole world started to blow up because of an all out nuclear war that started in America.
Sizar was shocked as the mushroom explosion started raging with anger as it destroy everything
in it s path [personification]. Sizar turned around and ran into the machine. A few second later
Sizar saw the machine doors open and he was suddenly in 1983 or at least it s what it said on the
machine s calendar.
Sizar didn t know what was going on until a voice came out of nowhere to tell him that he is the
new time traveler. It went a little something like this hello Sir I am Ordis a AI designed to serve
your every need (Ordis is a talking computer). Sizar just stood there for a couple seconds then said
WOOHOO I m going to be richer than Bill Gates! Sizar was as happy as a dog getting a treat

thinking about all the people he is killing by not stopping the explosion. He took a picture of the
ice cream and gave the print to Ordis. When Ordis eats he is completely vulnerable so Sizar thought

The Class System
The class system is commonly known throughout the world, although some countries admit its
existence and adhere to it more readily than others. In the US, sociologists have broken down the
typical three classes of upper, middle and lower into six classes: upper/super class, upper middle,
middle, working, working poor, and underclass. These groupings better illustrate the current state
of society, and the variances that exist between them. The superclass is the elite. They generally
are in this class due to income from outside of work, such as gaining an inheritance. This also
includes captains of industry or other prestigious work positions, and household income is $2
million (Doob, 2013, p. 78). This group is the 1% that was rallied... Show more content on

It s often believed that one will remain in the social class to which they were born, but structural
mobility has made a great impact on that concept. Structural mobility describes the technological
or institutional change [that] creates an increase or decrease in jobs within a certain class (Doob,
2013, p. 87). In the last few decades, this has generally served to create downward intergenerational
mobility, because the jobs that were held by baby boomers and caused upward social mobility for
them have now been replaced by technology or eliminated altogether. Younger generations have
found themselves facing competition not only from their peers, but from the machines that are

Changing Time In High School
A problem with changing the time that schools starts is parent work schedules. When school
starts at 7:30, most parents can see their kids before they go to school. If that time was changed,
most parents won t be able to still drive their kids to school and get to work on time. A main a
problem for parents of young children, who need supervision while getting ready for schooland
waiting for the bus. For teenagers, later starting time may lead to more responsibility such as
getting themselves up on their own and getting their own breakfast.
Another issue is bus schedules and other transportation. Lots of school districts use the same buses
to get the elementary and high school students. Delayed school times would affect this because if
the same bus driver drops students off at the high school and then has to pick up elementary school
students. Schools would have to delay both high school times and all elementary schools times or
maybe get more buses to drive the elementary school students. ... Show more content on

A Lecture On International Sustainable Tourism
Triple Bottom Line
During a lecture in International Sustainable Tourism, we discussed the Triple Bottom Line or
Triple Bottom Line Reporting, which means expanding the traditional reporting framework to take
into account environmental and social performance in addition to financial performance. This
framework is becoming an accepted approach for organizations to demonstrate they have strategies
for Sustainable Growth. It focuses on decision making and reporting, which explicitly considers an
organization s economic, environmental and social performance. Triple Bottom Line focuses on
Stakeholders instead of Shareholders. A Stakeholder is a person, group, or organization who has an
interest or concern in an organization. In this essay, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that there is technically a Social Environmental pillar which relates to Environmental
Justice, Natural Resources Stewardship, and Acting Locally, Thinking Globally; A Environmental
Economic pillar which highlights Energy Efficiency, Subsidies, and Incentives for use of Natural
Resources, and finally an Economic Social pillar which deals with Business Ethics, Fair Trade and
Workers Rights. Right smack dab in the middle of the circle graph is Sustainability. When all three
pillars are in play, Sustainability happens.
Moving on, there are three set goal principals for the Triple Bottom Line and they all three relate
back to the three pillars. The goal for the Social pillar is to have Vibrant Communities, where an
organization has a responsibility to its employees and to the wider community in which it works.
The company understands how its practice affects the workers and strives to promote their best
interests. The goal for the Environmental pillar is a Healthy Environment by reducing the
environmental footprint. Finally, the goal for the Economic pillar is Profit. The Triple Bottom line
recognizes that business sustainability rests on social and environmental settings. The cost of
pollution, worker displaces, and other factors and is included into a profit calculation.
When it comes to the mechanics of the Triple Bottom Line, there is no universal standard to
calculate the Triple Bottom Line, and the

What Is The Libertarian View Of Justice
Most people strive to have a comfortable way of living, whether that be from working hard or
signing up for assistance. While some libertarians are under the impression that everything should
be each individual s own responsibility, they sometimes do not realize how much free assistance
they have gotten throughout their lives. On the other hand, people who get assistance from the
government or donors sometimes take advantage of other people instead of working hard. This
position paper will focus on two philosophers that state opposing views of justice: John Rawls and
Robert Nozick. While John Rawls stands behind justice as fairness, the libertarian view of justice
is presented by Robert Nozick. John Rawls justice as fairness is the most... Show more content on

It would not be fair if a child from a poor family was refused education because they did not have
the means to pay for it. It is only just if each child has the same opportunity to develop or expand
their talents. One of Rawls most popular ideas is the veil of ignorance. In this veil of ignorance,
everyone is forced to ignore their own personal circumstances so they can be less bias when
making a decision on justice. One must imagine that they have no idea where they are placed in
the society. If a rich person imagines being in the worst possible class there is, their views on
justice are likely to change. If they were once resentful of extra taxes coming out of their
paychecks to help the poor, imagining themselves being poor would make them understand
those extra taxes. Conversely, if a poor person imagines being extremely rich, they would not
like to have restrictions on how much money they are allowed to make. Furthermore, this social
contract is made voluntarily by members of the society to make it the most just. Since all of the
people could potentially be in the same financial standing, they will give up what they feel is
necessary to make the best bargain. It makes the rich realize that they would still want the best
education for their children even if they were poor. It also makes them recognize the need for
decent healthcare to all of the different classes. Adequate housing would also be wanted for
everyone if people did not know what class they would be

Eyes Are The Biggest Betrayers
Eyes are the biggest betrayers. Some say eyes are windows to the soul. Who knows if they are... or
if there is a soul... But betrayers, yes, the eyes are... if you are not careful, they let your secrets
out... especially your desires. You know, hunger shines in the eyes before it can be seen in any
other way. Even if for a second before you hide it. Take care to wipe it out of your eyes before
someone sees it. Or they will think less of you. You are not a poor little famished girl, are you?
Where are your manners? Grandma s words echoed in Riya s ears while she was looking at Preeti.
Yes, there was a definite flicker of unguarded hunger before Preeti lowered her eyes and
pretended otherwise. How did she know to do that? Did her grandmother also tell her the same

Evaluation Of An E File System
Painters Case Study This is a thought provoking case study which, like most of the effort in
Sociotechnical Theory, is concentrated on a certain type of production system , in this case an E
File system. Socio Technical Theory is an intellectual model that helps us recognize patterns in the
way technology is used. How well businesses can utilize this model can make or break the success
or failure of an organization as they change the way they do business or introduce new technology
to their workforce. In looking at the case study by Painter B he mentions the renovation of a paper
method to an electronic E file system. Reasons standing behind these changes were noted;
Claims from injured
Delayed payment on claims
Rising costs of disability benefits. According to Painter (NA), The Electronic Claim File system
was customized for the assertion of reimbursement and compensation division of an insurance
conglomerate, Workers Compensation Board (p.2). The firm had huge client database and hence
the main task was to collect data, weigh evidence, and relate specified information in making
difficult decisions about workers injury compensation entitlements in an assortment of businesses.
Painter, the author of this study executed a sequence of before and after evaluations and
comprehensive consultations, approved and developed by labor and executives, to aid them closely
with the effects of E File transition on the employees, during the periods of pilot testing

Marketing Involving Hispanic Americans and the Internet Essay
The Hispanic American culture in the United States is becoming increasingly important in
marketing and consumer behavior. This segment has different preferences, values and attitudes
towards a variety of products than average United States consumer. The Hispanic population in
America is the fastest growing, not only the largest minority population now, but their collective
purchasing power exceeds $400 billion (Mongrain). In conjunction with this, the internethas also

It has been found that a much larger percentage of the Hispanic population lives in the western
United States than the general population and the smallest percentage in the Midwest. Interestingly,
the Internet Use by Region in the United States by Pew Internet American Life Project found the
greatest internet penetration among Hispanics in the Upper Midwest, at 67%, which far exceeds
the total internet usage of 59%. Other regions with larger Hispanic populations also have high
number of internet penetration, for example the Mountain region (including Colorado and
Nevada) and the Mid Atlantic region (including New York and New Jersey) have 63% and 62%,
respectively. Differences in habits not only exist between Hispanics in separate regions of the US
but also between Hispanics of different races.
The declaration of Hispanic dominance is a commonly mentioned turning point among those
companies targeting, or realizing they need to target, this diverse market. However, reaching the
US Hispanic market is more challenging than is often assumed. Not only are Hispanics the largest
single ethnic group in the US, they re not even a single racial group. People of Hispanic background
come from different nations, live in different regions, and enjoy different cultures; even the
language, which is often thought to connect all Hispanics, has many different dialects that divide it.

Identification Of Unknown Amino Acid
Identification of Unknown Amino Acid
Measurements of Buffer Capacity
Student #: 998493250
Authors: Young, Lee Melissa
Abstract
The titration curve of the unknown exhibited many characteristics, such as equivalence points, pKa
of ionizable groups, isoelectric point, and buffer regions, that are particularly distinct to lysine. For
unclear reasons, the pH during the titration did not reach the pH for pure 0.2 M NaOH nor 0.2 M
HCl and normal equivalence points expected at two extreme ends of the titration curves for all
amino acids were not observed. The titration of a phosphate buffer showed that the buffer capacity
is directly proportional to the molarity of the buffer. However, our results showed that although the
initial pH of the phosphate buffer was less than the pKa value, the measured buffer capacity was
higher towards acid than base. The accuracy of the pH meter and calibration process was
questioned under assumptions that the pH of the prepared phosphate buffer was actually above pKa.
Introduction
The hydrogen ion (H+) concentration is extremely important to living organisms. Even small
changes in H+ ¬¬ion concentration can cause serious consequences to the structural and
functional integrity of molecules. Consequently, it is important to regulate the pH within strict
limits so that important biochemical processes of living systems can proceed normally.
Buffers play a crucial role in maintaining a relatively constant pH in living organisms.

Intervention In Social Work
As social workers, it is important to study the entire aspect of the individual. We must examine
the individual past and see if their condition is trauma related. It is the job of the social worker
to identify the issue, in this case it would be a person who suffers from a mental illness and is
placed in isolation when in jail or person and find the best solution for that issue. The solution to
the issue may not be what s written in a handbook or what we were thought, but sometimes we
must find alternate resolutions. While we may not have the answers to combat the issue; if as
social workers we could find the root cause of the issue that may help in the intervention process.
To be more specific, if we recognize that a mentally ill person is

In American society, the common stereotype is that the father has the role of the dominant figure
in the household. Sylvia Plath and Sharon Olds may come across as two seemingly different
poets, however, they are really quite similar, especially in their driving forces behind their writing
styles in poetry. The lives of Plath and Olds are both expressive of the realities of a father
dominated family, in which both of these poets lost their fathers at a young age. This is significant
because both poets have faced a similar traumatic event that has had everlasting effects on their
adult womanhood, which is reflected in their writings. For both these woman, their accesses to

Both poems make allusions to Greek deities as a metaphor for the common perception that the
father is the dominant one in a family. The numerous attempts of the speaker s infatuation with The
Colossus with restoring the fallen statue and Olds comparison of alcoholism to the Greek deity,
Saturn both vividly symbolize that a father s decisions whether its life or in death, has its
consequences. In, addition it is for a young girl growing up to have a father figure in their lives
and how the absence of a father figure can impact a young woman s life tremendously.
Plath touches upon the highs and struggles of her life growing up, such as the tragic loss of her
father, which is reflected within her work. Sylvia was confused and angry about her father s
death. Plath expresses her hate for why her father is gone, hence why she became depressed and
mentally ill because deep down inside she felt like she could ve prevented his death. Plath always
felt like a victim to the male dominated society, especially when it came down to her father. In
The Colossus , the speaker tries in vain to piece fallen Colossus of Rhodes back together and to
make it speak to her. This depicts her broken relationship with her father for which she was trying
to piece back together as well. The Colossus was extremely tall statue of the Greek figure Helios.

Berlin In The Twentieth Century Chapter Summary
In his book Berlin in the Twentieth Century: A Cultural Topography, Andrew J. Webber uses
popular texts, films and speeches to illustrate what life was like and how the city of Berlin
became a powerhouse in the 1900 s. Using these texts from many artists, most notably Walter
Benjamin, Webber is able to highlight the differences between Berlin and other important
European cities, like Paris, to show how it is influential in comparison during this period. Much
of what I learned was not through Webber s writings himself, but the works that he uses in his
piece as sources. Through these quotes and anecdotes Webber uses, I feel like I gained a sense of
understanding of what life as a Berliner was like during the pre war, war, and post war eras.... Show

Because of that, I particularly enjoyed the chapter Berlin Alexanderplatz: alterations and

going to explore this chapter deeply. Webber opens chapter four by discussing the current state of
the public square. Alexanderplatz has gone through many changes. Originally a cattle market, it
was used as a battleground in World War One (Webber 188). It was divided into East Germany

where it was remodeled to fit the socialist regime before it was used for the largest protest in East

Battle of Marathon This essay talks about the great...
In 490 B.C.E. the Battle of Marathon was a brief but important event in the war between the Greek
city states and The Persian Empire. The results of the battle had unforeseen effects on Athens and
the future of Western Civilization. The Greek Golden Age , centred in Athens, brought about new
forms of art, the foundations of future philosophy and redirected literature and drama. The
achievements of the Athenians during this period were directly connected to the inspiration and
prestige (which later translated into power) fuelled by the events at Marathon. How the events of a
single day changed the entire course of Western Civilization is hard to fathom but obvious when
one looks at the aftermath of that fateful event.

The victory at Marathon and the successful defence of the city, gave the Athenians a sense of moral
superiority and pride. In later battles of the Persian War, at Thermopylai and Salamis, the highly
regarded Spartans and those of the Peloponnese were largely in control of strategic moves.
Although still a major force in every battle, Athens and her allies were outnumbered and thus
followed Spartan command. After the second occupation of Athens after the battle of Salamis, the
Athenians gave Sparta an ultimatum due to a lack of Spartan support. If the Peloponnesians
wanted Athens navy, they must save Athens land. Because the Athenians had more damage to
recover from it brought stronger confidence and overall pride for them once the city got back on
its feet. The Spartans, Corinthians and other Peloponnesian allies now had reason to fear Athens
growing naval power and its capabilities now that the city was repaired and invigorated with a
renewed sense of pride. This is the point that we see the beginnings of a shift in the balance of
power and influence between the city states. When the Ionian states adopted the Athenians as
leaders, as opposed to the Spartans who had been pre eminent for a long time, the rise of the
Athenian influence began to show. For the purpose of protecting all Greeks from a further Persian
attack, a league was formed, of which Athens was now the leader. The league included

Taga Biome Research Paper
If someone is looking for a magical adventure to a winter wonderland, point them north in the
direction of the wonderful biome, the Taiga! There is an opportunity to travel the world as the
taiga stands as the largest land biome in the world; locations include Canada, Alaska, Sweden,
Finland, Norway, Russia, and many more countries. Also known as the boreal forest, the taigais
home to a variety of plant and animal life for an adventurer to experience. These areas experience
half of the year in the summer and winter seasons; depending on the season, it has a moderate
amount of precipitation and warm or freezing temperatures. The taiga biome, located at fifty and
sixty degrees north, holds a wide variety of plants and animals with many adaptations to survive the
cold climate and a moderate amount of precipitation.
Describing the Boreal Forest, one would say it is frigid and rainy, and which occurs because of
the cold climate and modest quantity of precipitation. The two main seasons are winter and
summer, being that around half of the year is spent in each. Autumn and spring come around for
a very brief period of time, but before a blink of an eye winter and summer are back in full force.
Summer temperatures can reach up to twenty one degrees Celsius and drop as low as negative
seven degrees. These temperatures leave the biome humid and warm for the summer months. While
in the winter the high stands at negative one degree, the low can drop to ... Show more content on

My Personal Goals
Persistence is the cornerstone to my character and it fuels my passion towards reaching my
goals. Each time I am presented with a new challenge in life it is my persistence that assures my
success. Everything I have achieved is due to my willingness to press forward. I have always set
ambitious goals for myself because I enjoy the process required to attain them. I have found that
hidden in the arduous process of attaining challenging goals is the key to developing self
discipline. I am convinced that I would not have achieved everything I have now without
cultivating my will power. Currently, one of my short term goals include earing exceptional grades

As well, this curiosity fuels my other long term goal to obtain my graduate degree. I believed that
learning is a lifelong commitment and that it is essential to cultivate an appreciation for the laws
that govern our universe. In addition, to my scholastic goals I have set some personal long term
goals for myself as well. I plan to learn a new language and learn to play an instrument, it my
research I have found that bilingual people and those who play instrument not only live longer but
also have an increased opportunity to benefit their communities.
The most significant obstacle to my academic success has been to free myself from societal
illusions. The environment in which a person is born molds their perceptions of society, and
this is not easily changed. I am an African American male and I was born in Philadelphia and
raised by a single father in Bartram Village, a low income housing project, which is notorious for
being a haven for drug and gang activity. I was fortunate to have a father who taught me that
what I received from life would be based upon the choices I made. That piece of advice has guided
me and given me vision for what I wanted out of life. It was this clarity of vision that led to my
decision to serve in the United States Marine Corps. Despite, it being a time of war I knew that I
could expand my horizons by exposing myself to a new culture. I finished at the top of my military

Anthrax (Bacillus Anthracis) Essay
Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore forming bacterium.
The most common victims of anthrax are warm blooded animals, but it can also infect humans.
Anthrax spores can be produced in a powdery form for biological warfare. When inhaled by
humans, these particles cause respiratory failure and death within a week. Because anthraxis
considered to be a potential agent for use in biological warfare, the Department of Defense (DOD),
in 1998, announced it would begin a systematic vaccination of all U.S. militarypersonnel. (DOD,
1998) Anthrax infection occurs in three forms: cutaneous (skin), inhalation, and gastrointestinal. B.

Inhalation: Initial symptoms may resemble a common cold. After several days, the symptoms may
progress to severe breathing problems and shock. Inhalation anthrax usually results in death in 1 2
days after onset of the acute symptoms.
Intestinal: The intestinal disease form of anthrax may follow ingestion of contaminated meat and
is characterized by an acute inflammation of the intestinal tract. Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting
and fever are followed by abdominal pain, vomiting of blood, and severe diarrhea. Intestinal
anthrax results in death in 25% to 60% of cases. The incubation period is usually within seven
days. There are no reports of the disease spreading from human to human. Direct person to person
spread of anthrax most likely does not occur. Once a person has been infected with anthrax and
survived, a second bout with this disease is unlikely.
To treat anthrax, doctors can prescribe antibiotics. Usually penicillin based antibiotics such as
Cipro are preferred, but erythromycin, tetracycline, or chloramphenicol can also be used. To be
effective, treatment should be initiated early. The disease could be fatal if left untreated. (Sofaer, et
al, 1999)

One Size Does Not Fit all If my future were determined by just my performance on a

education system was based on one s knowledge of the simplicity of things; however, now a days
a children s knowledge isn t based on whether he or she knows the different countries or how to
answer 2+2 unless they can relate it to a real world situation. It is based on the pure skill of how to
take a test. Standardized testsand Common Core (CC) have recently started denouncing our school
system more and more. Children are starting to get lost and confused on topics, parents deem
them excessive and unnecessary, and teachers feel inclined to teach to the test and emphasising
relating everything back to a real life situation instead of teaching their students a broad spectrum
of ideas. With the adoption of Common Core and the addition of multiple standardized tests
children are starting to feel lost and left behind when it comes to curriculum. According to Cary
Grimm Common Core standards can be compared to jumping over a fence that one knows was 2
feet but evidently was told 3 feet and missed the next level standard. When you set a standard of
what a child needs to know in each grade but only used standardized testing to test their knowledge
of what they know instead of using a more personal approach, this degrades the system (Stern).

A New Covenant With The House Of Judah
The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of
Israel and the house of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt a covenant that they broke,
though I was their husband, says the Lord. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the
house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it
on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 No longer shall they
teach one another, or say to each other, Know the Lord, for they shall all know me, from the least
of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no
more.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying,
Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them,
saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. (Jeremiah

Who Is Hrothgar s Loyalty In Beowulf

Loud in that hall, the harp s rejoicing
Call and the poet s clear songs, sung
Of the ancient beginnings of us all, recalling
The Almighty making the earth, shaping
These beautiful plains marked off by oceans,
Then proudly setting the sun and moon
To glow across the land and light it;
And leaves, made quick with life, with each

Grendel keeps attacking Hrothgar s warriors because like the devil, he wants to weaken their
faith in God. As a result, Hrothgar and his warriors pray to God to get rid of Grendel and keep
them safe. They don t keep that faith through the attacks though. Hrothgar and his warriors start to
become weak because they feel like their prayers aren t doing anything but causing more deaths.
When Grendel can see that change he likes it. He knows that he has weakened Hrothgar and his
warriors so he keeps attacking to finish the deed.

Dredd Scott Decision Essay
INTRODUCTION United States Supreme Court case Scott v. Sanford (1857), commonly known
as the Dred Scott Case, is probably the most famous case of the nineteenth century (with the
exception possibly of Marbury v. Madison). It is one of only four cases in U. S. history that has
ever been overturned by a Constitutional amendment(overturned by the 13th and 14th
Amendments). It is also, along with Marbury, one of only two cases prior to the Civil War that
declared a federal law unconstitutional. This case may have also been one of the most, if not the
most, controversial case in American history, due simply to the fact that it dealt an explosive
opinion on an issue already prepared to erupt slavery. Thus, many scholars assert that the... Show

In April of 1846, Dred and Harriet Scott filed a suit for freedom against Irene Emerson in the
Circuit Court of St. Louis County, obviously under the jurisdiction of Missouri law. The
established legal principle of Missouri at this time regarding slavery was once free, always free
. In other words, to the Missouri courts, what Scott was doing was perfectly acceptable due to the
precedent of the Missouri case Rachael v. Walker (1837), which basically stated that if a slave
was taken by his or her master to a free state that slave was then entitled to freedom by virtue of
residence in the free state or territory [Oxford, 761]. On account of this alone, Scott and his wife
would have been freed when the case came to trial in 1847, however there was a problem of
hearsay evidence in the case and the judge declared it a mistrial. It was not until three years later
in 1850 that the court was able to correct the problem and unfalteringly sided with the Scott s and
ordered them freed, citing that once he had been in free territory, he was indirectly freed and
remained freed. By this time Mrs. Emerson had married, moved to New England with her new
husband, and left these affairs and ownership of the Scotts to her brother, John F. A. Sanford. After
Scott was declared free by the courts, Sanford sought an appeal from the Missouri Supreme Court.
In 1852 in, Scott v. Emerson, the Missouri Supreme Court reversed the decision by the lower court

Genetic Screening and Physiological Testing in Young Athletes
I was stretching when I heard an overenthusiastic mother gloating on behalf of her daughter
stating that her daughter was smart and capable of becoming an elite figure skater when one
coach explained, She doesn t have the right body. Followed by the unmistakable whimpering of a
little girl crying and an arguing parent, it was clear the little girl did not meet the standard of
flexibility and body composition to reach the upper echelon of figure skating that her mother
expected and she wanted. Flexibility is a necessity in figure skating in order to execute technique
well, while a low percentage of body fat is important for aerobic power and jump height (Winter et

These tests will also increase competition making for more exciting spectator sports, and benefit the
United States by maintaining its international competitiveness and top Olympic rank.
It would be beneficial for individual athletes to use talent identification and search programs
designed to scout young athletes for future Olympics. Athletes put a tremendous amount of hours
and years into their specific sport in hopes of reaching high levels of competition one day, such
as the Olympics. By implementing a mode of genetic testing and testing physiological traits, it
would remove the factor of chance and give a more accurate reading of athletes likeliness to
reach their goals. In addition, these measures will save time by allowing the children to get
involved in activities that fit them early on, ultimately saving money as well. A mother, Donna
Campiglia, replied eagerly to the idea of genetic testing explaining that it would also save parental
frustration (Macur). Some may argue that seeking traits in a young child would ruin the factor of
enjoyment in the sport, but if the child shows success in the sport, there would be a higher chance
of them enjoying what they do (Epstein). The benefits of making these tests more available can be

Protein deficiencies are commonly observed in older adults, leading to decreased levels of physical
activity. Nutritional interventions with whey protein could improve these muscle parameters. Both

melanogaster, the older population showed improved musclepower, grip strength and less muscle
fatigue. The climbing assay results were statistically significant, whereas the flying assay results

Whey protein is digested quickly because it is a leucine rich protein, and has a track record in
being more successful in synthesizing muscle protein in older populations than casein protein
which is digested more slowly (van Dijk et. al. 2016). Whey protein is given to D. melanogaster
flies rather than hemp or soy protein, because soy protein and hemp proteins are plant based
proteins while whey protein is from cows. Animal based proteins are easier to digest compared to
plant based proteins.
The study investigated the impacts of whey protein on two population groups that consisted of
young and old population of D. melanogaster because muscle damage could be simulated by age.
As people grow older, more damage in muscles occurs, and whey protein is expected to have a
greater effect. This effect is investigated in this experiment with D. melanogaster, where whey
protein improves muscle activity in older D. melanogaster.
D. melanogaster is a model organism in this experiment. A model organism is an organism which
is easy to study because it is cheap, reproduces easily and quickly, and the workings of it can lead
us to understand how other organisms work. By giving whey protein supplements to D.
melanogaster and observing the effects, it can provide understanding as to how a similar amount of
whey protein can affect humans. Of

Case Citation: Louisville and Nashville R. Co. v. Mottley, 211 U.S. 149 (1908)
Parties: Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, Petitioner E.L Mottley and Annie E. Mottley,
Defendants
Facts: E.L. Mottley and his wife, Annie E. Mottley, (plaintiffs) were passengers on board a train
operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company (defendants). Both the plaintiffs
and the defendant are citizens of the state of Kentucky. The plaintiffs, while passengers on board
a train, were injured in a train wreck on September 7, 1871. The defendants offered the injured
plaintiffs a free pass from the defendant s railroad company in exchange for the agreement that
they would not bring suit upon the defendant. The plaintiffs accepted the free passes which
would be renewed yearly. Several decades later, in 1906, a law was passed by the U.S. Congress
banning free railroad passes. This was passed in order to prevent bribery on government workers
and officials. This caused the defendant to refuse the plaintiffs renewal of their free passes in which
they then filed suit for specific performance in the Circuit Court for the Western District of
Kentucky. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plaintiffs stated that the law that was passed by congress did not apply to them because that
law was passed decades after they were offered and they accepted the free passes from the
defendants. They also argued that if the law passed by congress did apply to them then the law
should be considered unconstitutional due to the law depriving the defendants their property
without due process of law. The defendant attempted to object the pleadings of the plaintiff in
which the judge of the Circuit court overruled and awarded relief to the plaintiffs. The defendants
then appealed straight to the United States Supreme

Before starting a business, entrepreneurs need to take and use the methods to generate creative
ideas for product to be marketed and test new ideas. The methods are the focus group method,
brainstorming, brainwriting and problem inventory analysis. These methods are best suitable for an
organization that needs expansion in products or services
First is focus group method, focus group is defined as a group of individuals providing information
in a structured format. A moderator leads the group of about 8 to 14 participants through an open,
in depth discussion rather than simply asking questions to solicit participants responses. The group

in a short amount of time. This is method more to writing to convey new ideas for products. It also
takes place in groups where each group member will write their ideas over time.
This method has three rules that must be followed, namely the need to write or carry forward
cycle contributed three ideas in 5 minutes should be written in the form brainwriting then give it to
the next member. This is more of a discussion circle forward the idea of each member. Next rules is
following that members read every idea that was written to serve as an inspiration to be create
creative idea, if there is an idea written on the same form barinwriting, finally, this method requires
6 participants sit together and helped by a moderator.
Lastly is problem inventory analysis method, problem inventory analysis is a method of
obtaining new ideas and solutions by focusing on problems for certain product categories,
customers usually given a list of known problems for a particular product category and then asked
to identify and discuss the products in a category with specific problems. This will be more

The Diamond Necklace Affair
Marie Antoinette, Queen of France from 1770 to 1797 was despised by the people of France.
Their hatred of her and the monarchy in general led to the French Revolution. Many issues led to
the unpopularity of Queen Maria Antoinette, her vanity, her disregard for the people, but perhaps
the most significant was the Affair of the Diamond Necklace. In 1785, the court jewelers, Bohmer

ugly arrangement that resembled the collars worn by circus animals. They hoped that King Louis

It was, after all, the Queen that tried to prevent him from being appointed Grand Almoner of
France. Campan replied that the gentleman must be mistaken. Bohmer answered that Campan was
the one being deceived. His eminence, he said, sees [the Queen] in private and he has brought me
thirty thousand francs from the Queen as a down payment. Madame Campan immediately notified
the Queen of his visit. When Marie Antoinette called the jeweler back for questioning the diabolical
plot was discovered (Komroff 86).
The plot began in 1777 when, against Marie Antoinette s wishes, Rohan was named Grand
Almoner. Trying desperately to soften the Queen s anger, realizing that if she wouldn t
acknowledge him, his power in court would diminish greatly, he wrote many letters to her but to no
avail. She still refused to honor him with the slightest sign of recognition (86).
His desire for recognition led to his involvement with an adventuress and swindler by the name of
Countess de la Motte Valois (Affair). Countess Jeanne la Motte Valois came from a very strange
background. She was a direct descendant of King Henry II of France but generations of bad
marriages had reduced the family to poverty. She married an officer of the gendarmes and the
couple assumed the titles of Count and Countess (Komroff 87).

Critical Success Factors in Debating
Critical success factors in debating 1. Introduction In successfully debating, it is equally
necessary to rely on both team preparation efforts, as well as public speaking skills. The art of
debate has been important throughout the entire history of mankind, often times people with
powerful skills for debate earning high powered positions. Today, the process of debate is still
regarded as essential in public communications and it can sometimes weigh in the balance
between the winner and the loser such as the recent case of the debates between the two
presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. In the past, debating in public was
reserved to the people who had an innate ability for public speaking; nowadays however, the
ability to debate is being taught in educational institutions. In the recent past, the class has
participated in a debate over the ability of the single gender schools to create better learning
environments than co ed schools. In conducting the debate, teams were created and various tasks
were assigned within the teams. As part of the educational process then, a question is now being
posed relative to the key factors which drive success in a debate. At this level, it is believed that
the success is ensured by a combination of team effort and good public speaking skills. 2. Team
effort As part of the educational process, the debate over the single gender schools versus the co ed
schools in creating positive educational

hardships three sisters have faced in their lives, and the process of fixing the mess they all got
themselves into. The characters in this playwright have all committed social crimes, with only
two of the characters who actually commit legal crimes. This is where the title of the play is
derived from. Some of the themes found in this play include death, imperfection, resentment,
image, and hope. Henley s play takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride with the three sisters in
the southern town of Hazlehurst, Mississippi in the mid 20th century. The three main characters
in Crimes of the Heart are Lenny McGrath, Meg McGrath, and Babe Botrelle. Lenny is the oldest

Monkey s Quest For Immortality In Journey To The West
Immortality has been made into this ultimate goal. Literature and films have often painted
immortality as a gift only given to the few who have proven themselves worthy of it. A life full of
great wisdom, experience, and many other joys. In Journey to the West, it opens up with the birth
of Monkey and follows him as he tries to achieve immortality. Monkey wants immortality and is
willing to do anything to get it; thinking immortality will bring him a an enlightened life. After
reading Journey to the West, I believe immortality should not be something that is prized as the
ultimate gift. I think living an immortal life would be far worse than a mortal one and throughout
this paper I will discuss why. Why would someone want to be immortal if they cannot share their

All in all, in my opinion, immortality is worthless. With immortality comes selfishness. Immortals
seem to take everything for granted because they know they will most probably experience it

People should proud of their culture and language. Anzaldua describes, Being Mexican is a state
of soul not one of mind (92). This result comes after a lifetime of enduring two cultures demand.
Gaining the ability to take the good traits from those cultures and producing a scholar for impact
current and future generation. Therefor, her sense of pride from her Latino culture opened a
door of opportunity into her academic culture. She discovers that her people being patient have
endured and she changes to the same philosophy. Knowing she has developed and is a part of
new future she accepts these cultures positives side and negatives side and use them to
encourage her writings. From the sentence I will no longer be made to feel ashamed of existing.
I will have my voice: Indian, Spanish, white. I will have my serpent s tongue my woman s voice,
my sexual voice, my poet s voice. I will overcome the tradition of silence (89 90), and So, if you
want to really hurt me, talk badly about my language. Ethnic identity is twin skin to linguistic
identity I am my language (89). She emphasized the closeness relation between language, culture
and identity and explaining that talking badly about her language is a way to hurt her. She can find
some validation of her language and culture through Chicano books and Mexican movies.

Analysis Of The Estrangement By Jamaica Kincaid, My Speech...
One s judgement of others is a commonality amongst all people; however, to admit one is wrong
about one s perceptions is infrequent. In both essays, The Estrangement by Jamaica Kincaid, and
My Speech at West Point by Marjane Satrapi in the book The Writer s Presence, the writers make
comment on their life experiences particularly about their bad judgment of others and the impact
that has had on them. Kincaid s essay is about the rough relationship she had with her mother and
how her criticism of her changed after her experience as a mother. Similarly, Satrapi writes about
the pointin her life she began learning one she realizes that the view she had of the people in her
country was wrong during her time at West Point. Both provide... Show more content on

Nevertheless, she accepts her mistake and learns from her experience by acknowledging it, I don t
know anything (Kincaid 249). Ultimately, Satrapi conveys that there not only needs to be progress
in her country, but in her thinking as well. This brings to light how the only way to diminish social
issues, our opinions need to be altered.
Likewise, Kincaid wrongly judges her mother. In her essay, The Estrangement she tells that she
stopped talking to her mother after she spoke unkindly about her in a conversation they had
through the phone. She describes her mother as a person that was seen as nice by others, but not
by her nor her younger siblings. She asserts that her mother, said horrible things to us more often
than not and that the nice person everyone saw in her was not at all known to us (Kincaid 170). In
other words, her mother was unaffectionate to them. A statement she makes evident when she tells
about the time his step father was buried next to her mother and her uncertainty of whether he
would have liked that based on her and her siblings preferences. She claims, we would rather be
dead than spend eternity lying next to her (Kincaid 170). In other terms, they despised her mother
for the treatment she gave them. However, later in the text, there is a shift in tone: from hate to
acknowledgement and love. Her perception of her mother changes after she realizes how

Negative Effects Of The Internet On Teens
Bob a young boy was in his room with a gun in his hand. He was debating on whether or not to
commit suicide, due to the fact of people on social media making fun of him, his father opens
the door, Son what are you doing? Too many kids across the world are committing suicide due to
the internet and social media. I think it is time to put a stop to it. Teens have to limit their time
on the internet and be careful on what they post. We have set a program to these young teens to
be on there cell phones constantly. The University of Standford stated that cellphones Negatively
affects teens emotions. The Internet is not safe for kids these days. The internet is a great
convenience, but in some ways, it makes things too easy for us. While we used to have to think
about things and actually come up with answers on our own, today whenever we need answer we
just type the question into a search engine and press Enter. Think about it from a parenting and
homework perspective. Because of the internet, a parent today who helps their child do homework
really doesn t have to think as hard as a pre internet era parent from a couple decades ago. As many
parents know, helping children with their homework (without the help of the internet, that is) is
often harder than you might want to admit. Instead of just querying Google, you have to really
concentrate and try to remember all of those math equations you learned back in school so many
years ago. Hard, isn t it? Working on the Internet not only causes eye strain or bad posture, it also
brings in a slew of other health hazards that are not as apparent. Some people believe that the
Internet has a positive impact on students by providing a variety of resources for their studies.
However, I strongly disagree with that claim since internet brings some negative effects on students
such as internet addicts and the reliance too much on the internet with homework. Teens spend
more and more time on playing computer games or just surfing the net without any particular
reasons. Accordingly, the time they spend on studying is automatically reduced, which in turns
causes the lower academic achievement. Moreover, some of them go to the extreme, becoming

Has Pos-Fordism Replaced Fordism in Capitalist Society
The beginning of the 20th century when Henry Ford first time put his genius idea of dividing
works into separate parts by using assemble line into practice was marked as the start of massive
production. It is also the debut for Taylorism in the massive production area. After that such
method of massive standard production was named as Foedism. Based on the scientific
management theory that comes from Taylorism, the manufacturing area began to be dominated by
Fordism. However, since the 1960s when a series of new technologies appeared, manufacturing did
not have to be formed in a fixed method. A more flexible production method, which was named as
Post Fordism turned up. From then on a controversy appears between two groups of... Show more

Since it is such a unusual idea to the dominant opinions, theories of post Fordism have suffered
some strong criticism. Pollert(1988), one who is opposed to the opinion that Taylorism and
Fordism have been replaced by post Fordism , argues that theories of flexibility are too simple to
believe and at times incorrect. She says that the comments, which indicate the Fordism once
dominated the production method are incorrect. She otherwise, points out that the flexibility to
produce specialized products are nothing new and the key of Japanese business success is cheap,
well designed and reliable products rather than a small amount of specialized products. Thus,
flexible specialization and post Fordism was not that successful. To the issue about relationships
between flexibility and skill levels, she maintains a different view that flexibility at times also leads
to some opposite effects. In addition, Pollert(1988) also worried about introducing new technology
or new management proposals into practices, since it may cause conflicts between workers and
management. Apart from Pollert, Stephen Wood(1989) also questions whether the flexibility has
led to a greater requirement of skills. And he doubts that the people who support the post Fordism
theories exaggerate their cases. Just as Hall(1988) claims that there is still no evidence that

Social Disadvantages Of STEM
STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a rapidly growing educational
and job field in this technologically advancing world. It is also starting to include more women,
though not as many as one would consider equal . Although women make up 48% of the overall
work force, they only fill 24% of STEM jobs (Beede et al. 1). Additionally, there is a lower
amount of women than men graduating from colleges with degrees in STEM fields. Why is the
man to woman ratio so drastically uneven in college STEM programs? Why do women have a
higher rate of changing from a STEM major to something else? How can this be a problem for
development in the field? How can this be remedied? For the sake of simplicity, all statistics
apply to white men and women unless stated otherwise. It is common knowledge that the STEM
field is overrun by men, with over 75% if STEM jobs being held by men in 2009 (Beede et al. 1).
This fact in itself is something that repels women from delving into the field. Women start out with
a social disadvantage when it comes to pursuing a STEM degree. There is often little to no
support, especially from men, when they express interest in it. Even after attaining a degree and
being hired, there may not be a sense of unity between the few women that are in the field. ... about
three fourths of the women scientists surveyed reported that women in their work environments
supported each other. And yet about a fifth of the scientists surveyed reported I feel

Pathos Single Sex Education
The article Single Sex Education published by The Washington Times states the importance of
emphasizing single sex education and the advantages that come with studying in it. According to
the article, single sex education is taking public school students to a new level, providing them with
a greater variety of academic opportunities ( Single Sex Education, 2003). The purpose of the
article is to educate its audience, specifically the schools, to adopt the single sex education strategy
because it leads to improvement in the performance of students, increases the college acceptance
rates and also reduces the number of teen pregnancies. Through these arguments, the article makes
use of pathos by appealing to the emotions of the parents whose daughters have been pregnant
during schools and schools that have had to deal with such cases. The article makes use of pathos
by stating that single sex education leads to a decrease in the disciplinary cases and an improvement

It makes use of logos to state that single sex education leads to development of sexism in schools by
promoting the idea that males and females have different classrooms because they have different
intellects. According to the article, children who interact mostly with the same gender peers develop
increasingly narrow skill sets and interest (Biglor and Eliot, 2012). The purpose of the article is to
educate the readers about the wrong and biased ideas on which people are promoting single sex
education and to know about the disadvantages of studying in such an environment. The tone of the
article is persuasive and challenging. The article has presented some strong points in opposition of
single sex education by stating that instead of segregating the society based on gender we should
make use of coeducation to model a truly egalitarian

A Hurt Ballerina Essay
A Hurt Ballerina
What is a ballerina? A ballerina is one who practices the art of ballet. Many ballerinas go through
hardships, but the most devastating is an injury. According to (Schwarz 2000) who states,
Psychologists trying to understand the factors that put athletes and performers at risk for injuries
have found that professional ballet dancers get hurt just as often and suffer just as serious injuries
as athletes in contact sports .(para.1) Not only is it physical, but an injury to a ballerina becomes
emotional. There are many ballerinas, but this is the story of one particular one. I began ballet at
the age of three. I continued until age eight and then I decided to stop ballet, so I could learn to
play the violin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the fall, I only danced at the studio in Asheville. Even though it meant more time on the road,
I felt like it was the best choice of studios for me. I auditioned again for Moscow Ballet the
Nutcracker and a local company that was beginning. I received a nice part in the ballet Pepita. I
practiced for both ballets, attended my classes, and even added some private lessons. I began
noticing pain in the ankle of the foot I had hurt. I talked with my teacher, and we felt like it was
tendonitis, which is common among ballerinas. I would come home from dance and ice my
ankle regularly. It didn t seem to be healing, so after The Nutcracker, I went back to my general
doctor, in hopes of obtaining a referral to a sports medicine doctor to help with my tendonitis. As
protocol, she sent me for x rays. Much to my dismay, my ankle was broken. It showed my ankle
had been broken in April, not sprained as originally thought, and had not healed. After many many
tears, I went to an orthopedic specialist in Asheville. He recommended surgery to repair my ankle
with a chance it wouldn t completely heal. I left crying without making a surgery appointment. My
mother and I talked and decided it would be best to have the surgery done as soon as possible,

Bankruptcy Among Former Professional Athletes
Bankruptcy has become a normality among sports culture. A young athlete signs a multi million
dollar contact, they play the sport they love, they retire (or get cut), then their spending habits catch
up to them and eventually leading to bankruptcy. Over and over this has been the case for
hundreds of former professional athletes. This reoccurring phenomena has become the identity for
a plethora of athletes, like of once great sport icons such as, Mike Tyson and Vince Young. Many
people have forgotten about their accomplishments in their respective sports because they are now
all in the shadow of their moneytroubles. It seems as if it isn t a matter of if an athlete will go
bankrupt, rather, it is a matter of when they will. But why does this... Show more content on

Canseco says, if you ve got friends and family, the more money you make, the more you spend
on them (Callahan). As soon as these professional athletes become rich, people instantly come
out of the wood work asking for money or a loan. Saying, I will pay you back as soon as I can.
Which in most cases means never. Many athletes turn pro, then before they know it, not only are
they supporting their self for the first time, they begin supporting close friends and family
members. The people who care about them the most take all of the athletes money. More often
than not, before these athletes even realize that they can not efficiently support all these people
forever, they are on their way to going broke. They are spending more than they are saving
eventually leading to bankruptcy. Thinking that they have all the money in the world, many of the
invincible feeling athletes just hand out the money as if it truly does grow on trees. One way that
athletes can protect their money is according to Sports Litigation Alert s article, Professional
Athletes Must Surround Themselves with Talented Team off the Field, Too , Olenick suggests
many athletes should get pre nuptial agreements (1). By doing so the athletes can protect

  • 2. Narrative Essay On Time Traveler The Time Traveler Once on a Monday morning, Sizar was walking down the street to meet his cousin so they can go eat. out of nowhere, a weird machine came out of thin air and said, come with me if you want to live. The machine yelled. Sizar ran as fast as he can around the machine but right as he past it the whole world started to blow up because of an all out nuclear war that started in America. Sizar was shocked as the mushroom explosion started raging with anger as it destroy everything in it s path [personification]. Sizar turned around and ran into the machine. A few second later Sizar saw the machine doors open and he was suddenly in 1983 or at least it s what it said on the machine s calendar. Sizar didn t know what was going on until a voice came out of nowhere to tell him that he is the new time traveler. It went a little something like this hello Sir I am Ordis a AI designed to serve your every need (Ordis is a talking computer). Sizar just stood there for a couple seconds then said WOOHOO I m going to be richer than Bill Gates! Sizar was as happy as a dog getting a treat [simile]. • 3. The Class System The class system is commonly known throughout the world, although some countries admit its existence and adhere to it more readily than others. In the US, sociologists have broken down the typical three classes of upper, middle and lower into six classes: upper/super class, upper middle, middle, working, working poor, and underclass. These groupings better illustrate the current state of society, and the variances that exist between them. The superclass is the elite. They generally are in this class due to income from outside of work, such as gaining an inheritance. This also includes captains of industry or other prestigious work positions, and household income is $2 million (Doob, 2013, p. 78). This group is the 1% that was rallied... Structural mobility describes the technological or institutional change [that] creates an increase or decrease in jobs within a certain class (Doob, 2013, p. 87). In the last few decades, this has generally served to create downward intergenerational mobility, because the jobs that were held by baby boomers and caused upward social mobility for them have now been replaced by technology or eliminated altogether. Younger generations have found themselves facing competition not only from their peers, but from the machines that are quickly being used to reduce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Changing Time In High School A problem with changing the time that schools starts is parent work schedules. When school starts at 7:30, most parents can see their kids before they go to school. If that time was changed, most parents won t be able to still drive their kids to school and get to work on time. A main a problem for parents of young children, who need supervision while getting ready for schooland waiting for the bus. For teenagers, later starting time may lead to more responsibility such as getting themselves up on their own and getting their own breakfast. Another issue is bus schedules and other transportation. Lots of school districts use the same buses to get the elementary and high school students. Delayed school times would affect this because if the same bus driver drops students off at the high school and then has to pick up elementary school students. Schools would have to delay both high school times and all elementary schools times or maybe get more buses to drive the elementary school students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. A Lecture On International Sustainable Tourism Triple Bottom Line During a lecture in International Sustainable Tourism, we discussed the Triple Bottom Line or Triple Bottom Line Reporting, which means expanding the traditional reporting framework to take into account environmental and social performance in addition to financial performance. This framework is becoming an accepted approach for organizations to demonstrate they have strategies for Sustainable Growth. It focuses on decision making and reporting, which explicitly considers an organization s economic, environmental and social performance. Triple Bottom Line focuses on Stakeholders instead of Shareholders. A Stakeholder is a person, group, or organization who has an interest or concern in an organization. In this essay, I ... Right smack dab in the middle of the circle graph is Sustainability. When all three pillars are in play, Sustainability happens. Moving on, there are three set goal principals for the Triple Bottom Line and they all three relate back to the three pillars. The goal for the Social pillar is to have Vibrant Communities, where an organization has a responsibility to its employees and to the wider community in which it works. The company understands how its practice affects the workers and strives to promote their best interests. The goal for the Environmental pillar is a Healthy Environment by reducing the environmental footprint. Finally, the goal for the Economic pillar is Profit. • 6. What Is The Libertarian View Of Justice Most people strive to have a comfortable way of living, whether that be from working hard or signing up for assistance. While some libertarians are under the impression that everything should be each individual s own responsibility, they sometimes do not realize how much free assistance they have gotten throughout their lives. On the other hand, people who get assistance from the government or donors sometimes take advantage of other people instead of working hard. This position paper will focus on two philosophers that state opposing views of justice: John Rawls and Robert Nozick. While John Rawls stands behind justice as fairness, the libertarian view of justice is presented by Robert Nozick. John Rawls justice as fairness is the most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would not be fair if a child from a poor family was refused education because they did not have the means to pay for it. It is only just if each child has the same opportunity to develop or expand their talents. One of Rawls most popular ideas is the veil of ignorance. In this veil of ignorance, everyone is forced to ignore their own personal circumstances so they can be less bias when making a decision on justice. One must imagine that they have no idea where they are placed in the society. If a rich person imagines being in the worst possible class there is, their views on justice are likely to change. If they were once resentful of extra taxes coming out of their paychecks to help the poor, imagining themselves being poor would make them understand those extra taxes. Conversely, if a poor person imagines being extremely rich, they would not like to have restrictions on how much money they are allowed to make. Furthermore, this social contract is made voluntarily by members of the society to make it the most just. Since all of the people could potentially be in the same financial standing, they will give up what they feel is necessary to make the best bargain. It makes the rich realize that they would still want the best education for their children even if they were poor. It also makes them recognize the need for decent healthcare to all of the different classes. Adequate housing would also be wanted for everyone if people did not know what class they would be ... Socio Technical Theory is an intellectual model that helps us recognize patterns in the way technology is used. How well businesses can utilize this model can make or break the success or failure of an organization as they change the way they do business or introduce new technology to their workforce. In looking at the case study by Painter B he mentions the renovation of a paper method to an electronic E file system. Reasons standing behind these changes were noted; Claims from injured Delayed payment on claims Rising costs of disability benefits. According to Painter (NA), The Electronic Claim File system was customized for the assertion of reimbursement and compensation division of an insurance conglomerate, Workers Compensation Board (p.2). The firm had huge client database and hence the main task was to collect data, weigh evidence, and relate specified information in making difficult decisions about workers injury compensation entitlements in an assortment of businesses. • 12. Identification Of Unknown Amino Acid Identification of Unknown Amino Acid Measurements of Buffer Capacity Student #: 998493250 Authors: Young, Lee Melissa Abstract The titration curve of the unknown exhibited many characteristics, such as equivalence points, pKa of ionizable groups, isoelectric point, and buffer regions, that are particularly distinct to lysine. For unclear reasons, the pH during the titration did not reach the pH for pure 0.2 M NaOH nor 0.2 M HCl and normal equivalence points expected at two extreme ends of the titration curves for all amino acids were not observed. The titration of a phosphate buffer showed that the buffer capacity is directly proportional to the molarity of the buffer. However, our results showed that although the initial pH of the phosphate buffer was less than the pKa value, the measured buffer capacity was higher towards acid than base. The accuracy of the pH meter and calibration process was questioned under assumptions that the pH of the prepared phosphate buffer was actually above pKa. Introduction The hydrogen ion (H+) concentration is extremely important to living organisms. Even small changes in H+ ¬¬ion concentration can cause serious consequences to the structural and functional integrity of molecules. Consequently, it is important to regulate the pH within strict limits so that important biochemical processes of living systems can proceed normally. Buffers play a crucial role in maintaining a relatively constant pH in living organisms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sylvia Plath and Sharon Olds may come across as two seemingly different poets, however, they are really quite similar, especially in their driving forces behind their writing styles in poetry. The lives of Plath and Olds are both expressive of the realities of a father dominated family, in which both of these poets lost their fathers at a young age. Plath touches upon the highs and struggles of her life growing up, such as the tragic loss of her father, which is reflected within her work. Sylvia was confused and angry about her father s death. Alexanderplatz has gone through many changes. Originally a cattle market, it was used as a battleground in World War One (Webber 188). It was divided into East Germany , where it was remodeled to fit the socialist regime before it was used for the largest protest in East Germany on 4 November 1989. • 18. Battle of Marathon This essay talks about the great... In 490 B.C.E. the Battle of Marathon was a brief but important event in the war between the Greek city states and The Persian Empire. The results of the battle had unforeseen effects on Athens and the future of Western Civilization. The Greek Golden Age , centred in Athens, brought about new forms of art, the foundations of future philosophy and redirected literature and drama. The achievements of the Athenians during this period were directly connected to the inspiration and prestige (which later translated into power) fuelled by the events at Marathon. How the events of a single day changed the entire course of Western Civilization is hard to fathom but obvious when one looks at the aftermath of that fateful event. The revolts of a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The victory at Marathon and the successful defence of the city, gave the Athenians a sense of moral superiority and pride. In later battles of the Persian War, at Thermopylai and Salamis, the highly regarded Spartans and those of the Peloponnese were largely in control of strategic moves. Although still a major force in every battle, Athens and her allies were outnumbered and thus followed Spartan command. After the second occupation of Athens after the battle of Salamis, the Athenians gave Sparta an ultimatum due to a lack of Spartan support. If the Peloponnesians wanted Athens navy, they must save Athens land. Because the Athenians had more damage to recover from it brought stronger confidence and overall pride for them once the city got back on its feet. The Spartans, Corinthians and other Peloponnesian allies now had reason to fear Athens growing naval power and its capabilities now that the city was repaired and invigorated with a renewed sense of pride. This is the point that we see the beginnings of a shift in the balance of power and influence between the city states. When the Ionian states adopted the Athenians as leaders, as opposed to the Spartans who had been pre eminent for a long time, the rise of the Athenian influence began to show. For the purpose of protecting all Greeks from a further Persian attack, a league was formed, of which Athens was now the leader. The league included ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also, along with Marbury, one of only two cases prior to the Civil War that declared a federal law unconstitutional. In April of 1846, Dred and Harriet Scott filed a suit for freedom against Irene Emerson in the Circuit Court of St. Louis County, obviously under the jurisdiction of Missouri law. The established legal principle of Missouri at this time regarding slavery was once free, always free . In other words, to the Missouri courts, what Scott was doing was perfectly acceptable due to the precedent of the Missouri case Rachael v. Walker (1837), which basically stated that if a slave was taken by his or her master to a free state that slave was then entitled to freedom by virtue of residence in the free state or territory [Oxford, 761]. On account of this alone, Scott and his wife would have been freed when the case came to trial in 1847, however there was a problem of hearsay evidence in the case and the judge declared it a mistrial. It was not until three years later in 1850 that the court was able to correct the problem and unfalteringly sided with the Scott s and ordered them freed, citing that once he had been in free territory, he was indirectly freed and remained freed. By this time Mrs. Emerson had married, moved to New England with her new husband, and left these affairs and ownership of the Scotts to her brother, John F. A. Sanford. Today, the process of debate is still regarded as essential in public communications and it can sometimes weigh in the balance between the winner and the loser such as the recent case of the debates between the two presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. • 37. Monkey s Quest For Immortality In Journey To The West Immortality has been made into this ultimate goal. Literature and films have often painted immortality as a gift only given to the few who have proven themselves worthy of it. A life full of great wisdom, experience, and many other joys. In Journey to the West, it opens up with the birth of Monkey and follows him as he tries to achieve immortality. Monkey wants immortality and is willing to do anything to get it; thinking immortality will bring him a an enlightened life. After reading Journey to the West, I believe immortality should not be something that is prized as the ultimate gift. I think living an immortal life would be far worse than a mortal one and throughout this paper I will discuss why. Why would someone want to be immortal if they cannot share their life with others? Sharing with others is what life is about. Making connections and relationships... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So many experiences that anyone with the luck of getting to experience one would be grateful. Monkey became king of his people, he learned great skills from the Patriarch, he went to the heavens and met the Jade Emperor. Through all these extraordinary events Monkey does not even enjoy them. Monkey wants immortality so bad that he takes everything, no matter how precious it is, for granted. All of these experiences can be considered once in a lifetime events but to Monkey they are nothing. All in all, in my opinion, immortality is worthless. With immortality comes selfishness. Immortals seem to take everything for granted because they know they will most probably experience it again. I think living a mortal life is the best and people should stop wishing to be immortal. Mortality is able to bring out the best in life. With mortality people only have so long before they are gone from the world and with that little time real happiness is discovered through all of life s hardships. In the end death is both a hardship a beautiful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, he emphasizes a chapter on The Man I Killed , which describes the characteristics of a young Vietnamese man in which O Brien may or may not have killed with a grenade. The novel is not chronologically sequenced, which leaves more room for the reader to engage in a critical thought process that fully bridges the author s mind to their own. In O Brien s chapter, The Man I Killed , he attempts to humanize the enemy in a way that draws little separation between the enemy and himself by relating the enemy s life prior to the war to his, and illustrates the war through the eyes of the soldiers who fought it. To understand The Man I Killed , the reader must first enlighten themselves upon O Brien s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It wasn t until he went to war and was faced with the enemy that he would realize that the enemy wasn t so different after all. His jaw was in his throat, his upper lip and teeth were gone, his one eye was shut, his other eye was a star shaped hole..., writes O Brien as he studies the deceased enemy (118). Throughout the novel, the author shows consistency with repeating stories and lines in a way to present a greater image. He reminds the reader of details the elaborate his larger view. When he writes of the man he killed, he wants the reader to imagine themselves in his shoes, as he imagined himself in the enemies . As he carefully studies the dead man, he imagines how the boy found himself in the war. By relating American society to the boy s village of My Khe, he bridges similarities connecting the two by a culture that promotes defending one s land and ways of life. By saying, he would have been taught that to defend the land was a man s highest duty and highest privilege, he shows there is minimal difference between how most Americans view the military and the duty of the villagers in My Khe (119). Although he had not known the exact history of the boy, he attempted to illustrate in his own mind what his life may have been like prior to the invasion. The inability for O Brien to walk away from the body as Kiowa continued to pry him away says he was troubled by the similarities. Despite Kiowa saying it could have been him lying lifeless on ... • 40. Analysis Of The Estrangement By Jamaica Kincaid, My Speech... One s judgement of others is a commonality amongst all people; however, to admit one is wrong about one s perceptions is infrequent. In both essays, The Estrangement by Jamaica Kincaid, and My Speech at West Point by Marjane Satrapi in the book The Writer s Presence, the writers make comment on their life experiences particularly about their bad judgment of others and the impact that has had on them. Kincaid s essay is about the rough relationship she had with her mother and how her criticism of her changed after her experience as a mother. Ultimately, Satrapi conveys that there not only needs to be progress in her country, but in her thinking as well. This brings to light how the only way to diminish social issues, our opinions need to be altered. Likewise, Kincaid wrongly judges her mother. In her essay, The Estrangement she tells that she stopped talking to her mother after she spoke unkindly about her in a conversation they had through the phone. She describes her mother as a person that was seen as nice by others, but not by her nor her younger siblings. She asserts that her mother, said horrible things to us more often than not and that the nice person everyone saw in her was not at all known to us (Kincaid 170). In other words, her mother was unaffectionate to them. A statement she makes evident when she tells about the time his step father was buried next to her mother and her uncertainty of whether he would have liked that based on her and her siblings preferences. She claims, we would rather be dead than spend eternity lying next to her (Kincaid 170). In other terms, they despised her mother for the treatment she gave them. However, later in the text, there is a shift in tone: from hate to acknowledgement and love. Her perception of her mother changes after she realizes how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Negative Effects Of The Internet On Teens Bob a young boy was in his room with a gun in his hand. He was debating on whether or not to commit suicide, due to the fact of people on social media making fun of him, his father opens the door, Son what are you doing? Too many kids across the world are committing suicide due to the internet and social media. I think it is time to put a stop to it. Teens have to limit their time on the internet and be careful on what they post. We have set a program to these young teens to be on there cell phones constantly. The University of Standford stated that cellphones Negatively affects teens emotions. The Internet is not safe for kids these days. The internet is a great convenience, but in some ways, it makes things too easy for us. While we used to have to think about things and actually come up with answers on our own, today whenever we need answer we just type the question into a search engine and press Enter. Think about it from a parenting and homework perspective. Because of the internet, a parent today who helps their child do homework really doesn t have to think as hard as a pre internet era parent from a couple decades ago. As many parents know, helping children with their homework (without the help of the internet, that is) is often harder than you might want to admit. Instead of just querying Google, you have to really concentrate and try to remember all of those math equations you learned back in school so many years ago. Hard, isn t it? Working on the Internet not only causes eye strain or bad posture, it also brings in a slew of other health hazards that are not as apparent. Some people believe that the Internet has a positive impact on students by providing a variety of resources for their studies. However, I strongly disagree with that claim since internet brings some negative effects on students such as internet addicts and the reliance too much on the internet with homework. Teens spend more and more time on playing computer games or just surfing the net without any particular reasons. Accordingly, the time they spend on studying is automatically reduced, which in turns causes the lower academic achievement. Moreover, some of them go to the extreme, becoming ... It is also the debut for Taylorism in the massive production area. After that such method of massive standard production was named as Foedism. Based on the scientific management theory that comes from Taylorism, the manufacturing area began to be dominated by Fordism. Since it is such a unusual idea to the dominant opinions, theories of post Fordism have suffered some strong criticism. Pollert(1988), one who is opposed to the opinion that Taylorism and Fordism have been replaced by post Fordism , argues that theories of flexibility are too simple to believe and at times incorrect. She says that the comments, which indicate the Fordism once dominated the production method are incorrect. She otherwise, points out that the flexibility to produce specialized products are nothing new and the key of Japanese business success is cheap, well designed and reliable products rather than a small amount of specialized products. Thus, flexible specialization and post Fordism was not that successful. To the issue about relationships between flexibility and skill levels, she maintains a different view that flexibility at times also leads to some opposite effects. In addition, Pollert(1988) also worried about introducing new technology or new management proposals into practices, since it may cause conflicts between workers and management. Apart from Pollert, Stephen Wood(1989) also questions whether the flexibility has led to a greater requirement of skills. And he doubts that the people who support the post Fordism theories exaggerate their cases. Just as Hall(1988) claims that there is still no evidence that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Social Disadvantages Of STEM STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) is a rapidly growing educational and job field in this technologically advancing world. It is also starting to include more women, though not as many as one would consider equal . Although women make up 48% of the overall work force, they only fill 24% of STEM jobs (Beede et al. 1). Additionally, there is a lower amount of women than men graduating from colleges with degrees in STEM fields. Why is the man to woman ratio so drastically uneven in college STEM programs? Why do women have a higher rate of changing from a STEM major to something else? How can this be a problem for development in the field? How can this be remedied? For the sake of simplicity, all statistics apply to white men and women unless stated otherwise. It is common knowledge that the STEM field is overrun by men, with over 75% if STEM jobs being held by men in 2009 (Beede et al. 1). This fact in itself is something that repels women from delving into the field. Women start out with a social disadvantage when it comes to pursuing a STEM degree. There is often little to no support, especially from men, when they express interest in it. Even after attaining a degree and being hired, there may not be a sense of unity between the few women that are in the field. ... about three fourths of the women scientists surveyed reported that women in their work environments supported each other.
