She Was A Little Girl
She was in his bed. Kelsey... He sighed. Come on Professor, She grinned. The sooner it happens, the
sooner we can go back to how everything used to be. He put his hands on his hips and shook his head.
Kelsey, I know what you re feeling but this is just a crush. It s natural for girls of your age to form
attachments become infatuated... What is it? He switched his tone as she began to laugh. Nothing,
keep going. She said through stifled laughs. No, seriously, what s so funny? He looked a little
abashed. It s just, you think I m some innocent little girl. I m eighteen, Professor. You re not doing
anything wrong. I ve done stuff with guys before, but now I m ready to have sex. I just didn t want to

Yeah, right. No, it is. Don t worry, Professor, I think I finally got the message. She said dejectedly,
taking her hand from between her legs. She closed them slowly and brushed a strand of hair behind
her ear, covering her breasts instinctively with her other arm. Kelsey, you don t have to... He sighed,
knowing that there was no way to not hurt her now unless he told her the truth. Alright. I ll tell you the
whole story. She looked up through glassy eyes. Caldwell began to pace. Your father and I used to be
good friends. As you know, he used to teach English Literature as well before he became the Dean.
When he moved up to the big office, his replacement was a woman. Her name was Christine... Kelsey
went wide eyed. My... My mother? Caldwell nodded. We worked together, became... Close. We were
together when your father stole her from me. Kelsey s jaw moved uselessly as she processed it. It was
you? You were the guy that my mother was with when she met my father? Yes. I loved her. But love
wasn t the same as money, I guess. He was older, more accomplished, he had a bigger house, a bigger
wallet... He was more of a sound investment. Caldwell scoffed and shook his head. And the worst
thing is that every time I look at you... I see her. You re not unlike her, you know. You ve got your
father s condescending attitude and overconfidence, that s for sure, but otherwise, you re Christine,
sitting there, the same way she used to. He choked on

Examine the Argument that Places Can Be a Source of...
In order to answer the question, it is necessary to define identity and specifically the way social
scientist define identity. An individual has multiple identities, both personally and socially. These
connect them to other people relational identity; to groups, neighbourhoods, and communities social
identity; and to immediate situation or surroundings situational identity. Very few theories or concepts
support the idea of an essential personal identity . A concept that is more favourable is that who I am is
learnt and that it does change often over our life span. A contrary explanation is that personal identity
is not completely separate from social identity. Including group/collective identies, for example
gender is both a social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the effectiveness, of these skills that helps create and maintain social order. These unspoken rules
of social etiquette lead to society having preconceived ideas of what is the norm . This is almost
automatic, yet if normal behaviour is breached without repair, it is immediately noticed. In addition,
anything outside of these values of normality is viewed negatively or with suspicion, this in turn can
lead to exclusion of those outside of these so called norms . Identities of groups refers to differences as
well as similarities; writer, Jonathan Raban visited New York during the 1980s. New York was
experiencing record numbers of homeless living on the city s streets. Raban noted how negatively
other people described them: Long term mental patients discharged from hospitals...crack addicts,
thieves, alcoholics (Raban, cited in Taylor, 2009, P. 176). Over time, these separate identities blend
and become one larger identity: the Street People, Raban suggested that it be given capitals as is used
similarly to that of national or tribal identity. Making it a relational identity, Raban conducted
participant observation, he performed both identies, that of the Street People and that of those walking
by. He observed how when performing the passer by identity it is vital to keep moving as once
stationary, even though still the same person; to those who are moving, he is now part of the Street
People collective and shares their negative

Essay On The Art Of Camille Corot
When I first saw this painting done by Camille Corot, I was in awe. It was one of the many beautiful
paintings that I saw on my first trip to the Fine Arts Museum of Houston. The painting looks almost
dreamlike and soft, which amazed me on how a painter could create an art piece as such. This piece is
called Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld, by Camille Corot, French, 1861, the medium
is oil on canvas. I was immediately attracted to this art piece because of the earthy and naturalistic
colors used, and how the landscape seems almost hazy. This enchanting painting tells the tragic Greek
myth of Orpheus, the Greek god of music, saving his wife, Eurydice, from Hades, God of the
Underworld. Orpheus absentmindedly breaks the terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Devoted to his paintings he once said to a friend All I really want to do in life... is to paint landscapes.
This firm resolve will stop me forming any serious attachments. That is to say, I shall not get married .
I like the softness of how Corot painted this art piece. The painting, to me, looks simple yet
topographical, due to the trees and bushes painted. What I did not like about this piece is the way he
depicted the Underworld. The Underworld is said to be very dark and gloomy, due to all the dead
spirits living there, but Corot paints it with light and lush, making it look anything but eerie. He uses
Time and motion by showing Orpheus legs in a walking position, whilst holding Eurydice arm,
leading her out of the Hades Underworld. Also, the texture of the trees and bushes have a realistic
topographical and layered appearance with shades of blacks and browns. Since Corot is a landscape
painter, he often uses atmospheric perspective to create the illusion of depth. He shows the spirits
mourning their death in the background with shades of cool tones and uses light colors, while
emphasizing Eurydice and Orpheus in the foreground with more deep and darker colors. Another
element I ve seen in Corot s painting is his use of space, he shows Orpheus and Eurydice on the corner
right while the rest of the image is more focused on his beautiful landscape in the background.
Additionally, the focal point that immediately caught my eyes attention was the spirits depicted

Changes In The Upper Palaeolithic Periods
Introduction The Upper Palaeolithic was an explosion of cultural and behavioural changes that were
not present in the lower and middle Palaeolithic periods. These are things such as the creation of art
and figurines and the development of technology in tools that were used. These changes show how
communities and individuals were progressing into what we now consider modern human
behaviours... Art We know that the art that was being created in Europe during the Upper Palaeolithic
we created by the Cro Magnons for over 25,000 years (Springer and Andrews 2011). The art that is
present in the Upper Palaeolithic is categorised using two systems, parietal (paintings and engravings
found on cave walls) and mobiliary (figurines and other small portable ... Show more content on

This change in behaviour could imply how to populations of the Upper Palaeolithic were developing
emotions and feelings for the deceased and how they saw life and death in their populations (Renfrew
and Bahn 2016; Formicola 2007). While the act of burying the deceased individuals is interesting, the
effort that they took enhancing their appearance by placing beads, the use of red ochre and other
elaborate mortuary practices shows the changes that were happening to the development of culture in
these communities (Dobrovolskaya et al. 2011; Renfrew and Bahn 2016). There is evidence that the
upper Palaeolithic communities could have has a social structure within these communities, as with
more burial discoveries, there is a clear showing that some individuals had been buried with more
grave goods and more time was taken when preparing the burial (Springer and Andrews 2011). The
Sunghir burial in Russia contains the skeletal remains of an adult male and double burial of a boy and
girl. Both burials contained ivory beads that were attached to clothes they were wearing when buried;
there were nearly 3000 ivory beads found in the adult male burial, the double child burials contained
over 10,000 beads together which would have taken many hours to create (Springer and Andrews
2011). The time taken to create these grave goods could suggest they were important people within
their communities such as offspring of a chief (Springer and Andrews

George Orwell s The Brave New World
In both texts, Nineteen Eighty Four and Brave New World it is clear from the start the societies show a
heavy reliance on state control as a means of maintaining the dystopian civilizations. George Orwell s
Nineteen Eighty Four is a powerful presentation of a dystopian society under the influence and control
of a totalitarian government. Orwell uses the character of Winston as a vehicle to explore the extent of
the governments oppressive techniques. Through clever use of free indirect speech as the narrative
structure, the reader is instantly immersed into a deprived society under perpetual surveillance of the
omniscient ruler known only as Big Brother , and the effective but perverse methods the state uses to
maintain power. In the text ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Brave New World, technology enables the population to be manipulated and have their values
defined from a young and impressionable age. It is the key to ultimate social control and it is used in
that way; without the advanced technology the society of Brave New World would not be able to
achieve such powerful control. Technology is necessary for all of the vital aspects of the mass
reproduction with medical interference. For example the Bokanovsky process and hypnopaedia
conditioning both rely heavily on medical and technological advances. As a result the society is
fragmented and unchanging. The plot s heavy reliance on science could be argued to be due to Huxley
s affluent background and family history within the science field. His grandfather was nicknamed
Darwin s bulldog for his support of Darwin s theories and his active role within Biology.
In Nineteen Eighty Four technology is used very differently, it essence is still ¬¬the same (social
control) however they use it for invasive monitoring into every aspect of the citizens life. For example
Telescreens are camera esque devices which are everywhere, they are designed to receive and transmit
[information] simultaneously . As a result there [is] no way of knowing whether you were being
watched at any given moment which creates a constant feeling of unease, one which the population
learn to tolerate and accept. This further aids the totalitarian government with their aggressive
dictatorship,

How Are Johannes Kepler Alike
Isaac Newton and Johannes Kepler are extremely influential to contemporary science. They are
responsible for countless scientific breakthroughs and discoveries, making them immensely relevant
today. Many of the simple tasks of everyday life rely on a basis of knowledge brought about by these
two men. Although they worked in the same general subject fields, they lived completely different
lives and made completely different discoveries. Newton was able to learn from the ideas of Kepler
and use that information to make his own breakthroughs. These two men have their similarities and
differences but worked towards a common goal of furthering scientific understanding of the world.

For example, calculus is a very common course taught in schools. Much like Kepler s laws, Newton s
laws of motion are also taught in physics classes. If it weren t for these laws, there would not be any
basic understanding of the way objects move. Taking these laws into account, everything from
building large structures to making vehicles safer is made easier. Still used in modern calculations, the
newton is the main unit for the measurement of force. Named after Isaac Newton, this unit proves just
how influential he was to physics and understanding forces. If it weren t for Isaac Newton,
astronomers may not have such advanced telescopes. According to telescopenerd.com, Sir Isaac
Newton didn t use his telescope to find any new things in the universe but he did use it to radically
transform how we view the world we live in and the universe as a whole. His reflecting telescope was
the foundation of what later became highly advanced telescopes like the Hubble telescope. Almost
every aspect of the modern word can be related to Newton and Kepler. It is irrefutable that Newton
has a great influence on the world as it is

How Nicaragua s Of Special Law 364 Blocks The Fnc
In the late 1900s, several Latin American governments, including Nicaragua, began drafting and
enacting anti FNC (forum non conveniens) statues to counter its effects. FNC is a legal doctrine which
authorizes a court to reject a foreign plaintiff s case on grounds that there is a more appropriate and
convenient forum, the plaintiff s home nation s court. They enacted Special Law 364 to block or
counteract the FNC dismissal of cases brought to the United States by former Nicaraguan agricultural
banana plantation workers who claimed sterility from exposure to the toxic pesticide
dibromochloropropane (DBCP) while working for the Dole Food Company. In Rozencranz and
Roblin s article, Tellez v. Dole: Nicaraguan Banana Workers Confront the U.S. Judicial System, the
question of whether impropriety by Judge Victoria Chaney in the writ proceedings and whether an
error by the appellate court in analyzing those proceedings took place is raised. This paper will
examine how Nicaragua s enactment of Special Law 364 blocks the FNC and can be called a
significant impetus fraud that does not comply with international standards for due process. We will
also focus on the legal defense strategy that Dole s attorney s employed after the Tellez jury verdict
and prove how it is aimed to discredit the DBCP plaintiffs; as well as how Judge Chaney facilitated
this strategy by disabling the adversarial process which suggests that Judge Chaney s method of
evaluating evidence is indeed flawed and

Colossus Of Rhodes Research Paper
The Colossus of Rhodes
What makes the Colossus of Rhodes so noteworthy?
The Colossus of Rhodes is a very well known historical monument. It was a statue of the Greek titan
god of the sun Helios and was constructed in the city of Rhodes on a Greek island, which was also
named Rhodes, in 292 BC. The statue was constructed to commemorate Rhodes s conquest over the
leader of Cyprus. It was demolished during the earthquake of 226 BC, and was never rebuilt. Although
these are good reasons, there must be more detailed reasons that make the Colossus significant to
scientists, archaeologists and the like. Some historians say that it s vastness that makes it so intriguing
whilst others believe that the revelations tied around it is the most interesting ... Show more content on

The statues are approximately the same size and have many of the same features. For example, Their
both have crowns which are shaped quite like each others, their have the same posture posture, facial
expressions and etc. Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame (Lazarus, 1883). Lazarus is comparing
the colossus to Lady Liberty in this poem and stating that they are not alike. The evidence suggests
that this is not true but she could be of speaking on internal terms. The Colossus is a lot like the Lady
Liberty on physical terms, but there is dispute over internal.
What makes the Colossus so noteworthy? Many things. There s it s vastness, which is huge compared
to most buildings, The way it tells about much more than just itself which can help archaeologists and
historians learn more about the past and the fact that it resembles a modern day building which can
also progress to greek architecture taking over more buildings. But if there s one thing we know, it s
that the Colossus of Rhodes is a magnificent monument, and even though we have learnt so much
from it, there is still so much more that it can teach

Decline In Youth Sports
The decline in youth sports is affecting many people around the world today and it isn t just the kids
themselves, or parents with children, it includes the average person. If the participation in youth sports
continues to decline everyone will be affected in a negative way. As a society we need to get our kids
back into sports so they can receive the benefits and the life lessons that they will hold onto for the
rest of their lives. Sports can be a very important thing in many children s lives and it will have a
positive effect on them forever.
Decline in youth sports is a problem because it is hurting more than one person. Kids that do not

Cost is a huge problem when it comes to kids participating in youth sports. According to athlete
intelligence parents in the United States spend an average of $671 per year to cover different costs for
sports. These costs may include the participation fee, uniforms, lessons, or coaching from a private
club. As the kids get older they start participating in traveling leagues which can also be very costly.
Overtime all of those things add up and can become very costly for families This is just in youth
sports only, and the cost has increased and has been on the rise.
Another problem would be under trained coaches or coaches that are not properly taught how to coach
young children in youth sports. Farrey (2013) Only 1 in 5 coaches of youth teams of children under
age 14 say they have been trained in effective motivational technique, and just 1 in 3 in skills and
tactics in the primary sport they coach . Most of the coaches in youth sports today are fathers that have
a kid in the sport, so that might be why they are coaching in the first place. Also they haven t been
properly trained in the first place. According to NRPA there are roughly 3.5 million coaches in youth
sports and the majority of them are volunteer coaches that lack the training to coach these kids. They
are unable to teach the correct fundamentals and developmental skills to these kids, while at the same

Learning And Science Inquiry Skills
Learning dispositions and Science Inquiry Skills:
Carr (2008, Para.2) says: It is not about the blocks or the dough. It is about the activity being the
vehicle for the acquisition of the disposition to learn. Dispositions are voluntary and frequent habits of
doing and thinking. They are environmentally sensitive as they could be acquired and supported by
the interactive experiences in an environment with adults, peers and the nature around them (Bertram
Pascal 2002; Aitken, Hunt, Roy Sajfar, 2012).
The Early Years Learning Framework lists different dispositions of learning. They ordered them as
follows curiosity, creativity, commitment, persistence, cooperation, enthusiasm, imagination,
reflexivity and confidence (DEEWR, 2009).
Curiosity is the opportunity that the child has to enhance his or her exploration skills using different
senses. It also helps the children to extend no their learning (Aitken, Hunt, Roy Sajfar, 2012;
Buckingham Shum Deakin Crick, 2012). For example, Tanya and Rayana demonstrated their curiosity
as they focused on observing what would happen to the water when the oil was added. Then, they
used their understanding to compare between mixing different substances together as some will mix
while others will not.
Children can show confidence in their abilities which is linked to their enthusiasm about different
learning experiences (Da Ros Voseles Fowler Haughey, 2007). Rayana and Tanya demonstrated a
great confidence as they used

Examples Of Deceiving Others In A Doll s House
Deceiving others is not always done with ill intentions. Saving your life or someone else s is enough
for some to lie to those that are close to them. Such is seen in Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House. In Ibsen
s drama, the protagonist, Nora Helmer lies to her husband in order to illegally acquire money for a trip
that saves him from depression and potential death. Nora deceives her husband because during the
Victorian era, women were not allowed the same rights as men, so she had no legal means by which to
acquire the money, and continues to deceive him in order to preserve his reputation and their marriage.
Nora is initially a character who tells only white lies, seemingly harmless fibs. The play starts off with
her lying about sneaking snacks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Torvald finds her hairpin stuck in the keyhole of the letter box, Nora tells him it must have been
their children trying to get into it, not willing to admit that she had tried to break into his things.
Although the truth about her is about to be discovered, Nora wants to preserve the last bits of dignity
that she has left, finally worrying about herself before anyone else. This last lie, however, leads up to
her finally speaking the truth and expressing that she no longer feels that she loves Torvald. Her
husband is furious at her, insulting her, and fails to see that every lie that she told was for his sake.
Realizing that Torvald can t see her side of things and will only find fault in what she did, she
consequently comes to her decision to leave her family. Nora states that she is not happy and never
really was, her marriage to Torvald was as fake as a doll house according to her. Rather than lie, she is
completely honest now and states that she wants to become her own person and learn that which she
doesn t know despite what society might think.
In A Doll s House, Nora lies to Torvald in order to save his life. This one deception that took place in
the past leads to many more and helps her realize that she is unhappy in her marriage. Early on, Nora
tells petty, inconsequential lies. However, most of her lies and deceptions are done for the sake of her
family.

Hobbits Use the Law of Attraction on Their Adventure...
Hobbits are peculiar creatures. They are short, barefooted, jolly folk who love to eat, sing, and be
merry. However, they have no use for adventures (Tolkien 12) and prefer not to involve themselves
with those that do. Bilbo Baggins, on the other hand, comes from a long line of rebellious hobbits,
who craved adventure. Despite his introvert life, Bilbo cannot avoid adventure when it tumbles into
his hobbit hole. The novel, The Hobbit, supplies a fictional account of the positive and negative
outcomes produced by fluctuating self esteem and the Law of Attraction throughout a young hobbits
adventure through Middle Earth. The Law of Attraction sounds as though it could be a complicated
scientific theory; however, the theory is quite simple: your thoughts become things (Byrne 25).
Whatever the mind focuses on, the universe attracts. For example, in The Hobbit, Thorin Co., the
group of dwarves that hire Bilbo Baggins, traveled far and wide and regularly grew short on food and
supplies. Hobbits and dwarves are known for having incredibly healthy appetites, therefore, days
without food was horrific. Unfortunately, days with little to no provisions were inevitable. However,
Thorin Co. set the majority of their thoughts on low rations. According to the Law of Attraction, it is
no surprise that the thoughts centered on low rations, eventually created a reality of low rations. Along
those same lines, if you are complaining, or you are agreeing with someone who is complaining,

Kinship In Dr. Gregory Boyle s Tattoos On The Heart
Living in a diverse community while maintaining a state of accord is onerous. It is innate to regard
that one self s unrivaled conduct and notion are factual, which leads society to become perplexed by
that which they deem foreign. Thus, when one denounces another s truth chaos ensues. Fr. Gregory
Boyle offers that compassion and kinship are necessary to live in harmony yet, kinship cannot stand
alone, and compassion must be present to create unanimity. Kinship implies that compassion is
present, but that is not always correct yet, with compassion a perceived kinship is always present. To
live in a community ridden with diversity can be problematic, but despite the moments in which the
novel s anecdotes were difficult to relate to Tattoos on the Heart informs its readers about what their

Jane Eyre Essay example
Jane Eyre
The way in which society tries to live today goes hand in hand with the quote What really matters is
on the inside, not the outside , which is often repeated, maybe because people want everyone to feel
equal and no one inferior or maybe because a person just wants to feel better about his or herself so
this statement is said. The story Jane Eyre completely contradicts this quote, especially during the
social extravaganza, which was put on by Mr. Rochester and the Thornfield workers. The main goal
during the era in which the book Jane Eyre took place was to be wealthy so you could be a part of all
the so called finer things in life such as nice clothing, jewelry, money, large mansions, and so on. The

The setting describes all of the elegance which went along with being wealthy like Mr. Rochester,

so called not good blood and therefore a person was started out in life knowing that he or she would
never acquire a life of luxury but a life of hard work and a feeling of inferiority. During the social get

making the richer guests happy by waiting on them hand and foot and performing whatever tasks in
which they were told to do such as serving supper and helping dress the ladies and gentlemen. The

The Images Of Women During The 18th Century Of The Qing...
The screen painting named Women in a Palace was created in the late 17th century of the Qing
dynasty. This screen painting displays the tragic events that would be foul Wang Zhaojun one of the
four beauties of China. Since she would be delivered to Xiongnu a barbarian chieftain by Emperor
Yuan to make peace and order between them. This painting was probably a dedication to her because
of the struggle she will lead in the future. Further more this painting displays the emotions of the
painting through the colors, the message that is trying to reveal through the scale of the screen
painting, and the effort put into every detail of the painting.
In the screen painting, Women in a Palace definitely display its emptions through the colors of the
painting. For example, the color Green is used a lot in the painting, which I believe, means that the
painter wanted to display a new life that she will lead. I believe this because if I think about it for a
while you think green is color of new life and she is getting a new life by getting departed from the
castle. Then comes the color red, which probably means the difficulty that Wang Zhaojun would lead
in a new area that she knows nothing about. Next we have the color brown, which probably means
comfortability. The thing is that the Emperor Yuan took this away from Wang Zhaojun because like
any other woman in China she had no other choice but to comply with his choice. Then finally we
have the color gold, which is the meaning of power

Cons Of Slum Tourism, Crass Voyeurism Or Virtuous Travel
Slum Tourism should be allowed because it can change perceptions of poverty. People see poverty in
different ways, some express pity while other express disgust, while still others have never

impoverished people face everyday. The article The Pros and Cons of Slum Tourism, Crass Voyeurism

and it just hurts people from impoverished communities and damages the image of the country. For
instance the article The Pros and Cons of Slum Tourism, Crass Voyeurism or Virtuous Travel?, explore
the disagreeable side of slum tourism. For instance slum tours do not treat local people with
respect, toures see them as animals in a zoo which make local people feel degraded. . In fact foreigners
violate the privacy of local people by peering into the houses and taking selfies in front of houses.
Also slum tours ruin the image of the country and create stereotypes, people who might visit the

Death Penalty Pros And Cons
Opposing the Death Penalty When discussing the death penalty and its pros and cons, this subject can
quickly become very controversial. Can one really believe that an individual can commit a crime so
wicked that they should be put to death by another individual? The death penalty or capital
punishment is defined as a government sanctioned practice where a person is sentenced to death by
the state as a punishment for a crime. I oppose the death penalty, it should be put to an end and
terminated because the actual applications for the death penalty is random and capricious, the death
penalty violates the eighteenth amendment of the United States constitution, and even the guilty
should have the right to life.
The Death Penalty and Similar Crimes
To begin with, the death penalty should be terminated because the actual applications for the death
penalty is random, and capricious. In other words, the death penalty system here in the United States
is applied in an unfair manner. According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the death
penalty system is an unjust method against people because it is largely dependent on how much
income and money the individual has, the intellectual skills of their attorneys, the victim s race and or
ethnicity and exactly where the crime took place. It is proven that people of color is executed more
compared to white people, more so if the victim is white. Innocent people are often executed by the
state. Over one hundred and fifty six

Essay On Cognitive Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) was pioneered by Dr Aaron T. Beck in the 1960s, while he was
a psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania. Having studied and practiced psychoanalysis, Dr
Beck designed and carried out several experiments to test psychoanalytic concepts of depression. CBT
is a form of psychotherapy which is very effective in treating mental problems such as anxiety and
depression. It includes techniques such as exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring without exposure,
exposure therapy with cognitive restructuring and social skills training. CBT is usually administered

Individuals usually develop negative thoughts and harmful ideas when they are in distress. If this
pattern of thinking continues for a long time, it can cause anxiety problems and depression. People can
learn to identify their distorted beliefs and modify them to more positive and rational thoughts by
training their brain to respond differently and think healthfully. Cognitive therapy focuses on teaching
patients to relax and to be in control of their thoughts and ideas by neutralising negative thoughts with
positive ones. In cognitive therapy, it s also important to teach patients to move forward from their
pasts, step by step, as the process of changing the pattern of thinking is gradual. Two very important
factors for a successful cognitive therapy are determination and focusing. Patients need to focus on
what exactly is causing their social anxiety first before they start working on overcoming the setbacks.
Needless to say, patients must be equipped with patience and determination to overcome anxiety as
the process takes time and positive results do not quickly

The critics think the themes are there is no hope for humankind and evil is in all people because the
boys in the book become savages and everything turns to chaos and violence. At the beginning of the
book the boys elect a chief and start to create jobs for everyone, like attending the fire and hunting.
Although, as the story continues the boys start to not care about tending the fire, they only care about
having fun. Pretty soon everyone starts to disregard Ralph, their chief, and follow Jack because he

The World Outside And The Pictures
Broken Pictures
After the death of more than nine million soldiers and over seven million civilians, World War I came
to end with the signing of The Treaty of Versailles. US President at the time Woodrow Wilson offered
his vision for world peace with his Fourteen Points. Influential journalist and political commentator
Walter Lippmann assisted the drafting of this blueprint for world peace through a League of Nations.
Perhaps Lippmann is best known for coining the term stereotype in his 1922 book Public Opinion. In
the first chapter, The World Outside and the Pictures in our Heads Lippmann supports that reality does
not always correspond with the perception that the mind creates. These perceptions aids in fashioning
what Lippmann calls a pseudo environment. Through a medium of fictions, the mind shapes these
environments. Lippmann argues that public opinion is shaped and defined by perceptions of reality
and influenced by the pseudo environment molded by fictions. To demonstrate the pictures in our head
do not always match the world outside Lipmann tells a story about an isolated island that only receives
news updates every sixty days or so by steamer ship. The story takes place in September 1914 some
six weeks after the start of WWI and a couple months since the last steamer ship bringing the latest
news. On the island Englishmen, Frenchmen, and Germans worked and lived together in harmony.
Their most anticipated news story was not concerning world turmoil,

And this is also the most undervalued aspect in all educational organizations. But the impact of the
intangible skills of an individual is far more than the impact of the tangible ones. And this can be seen
from many successful people like Abraham Lincoln (Lawyer, U.S. president, finished one year of
formal schooling, self taught himself trigonometry, and read Blackstone on his own to become a

Frank Lloyd Wright (The most influential architect of the twentieth century. Never attended high

Hannibal Lecter Narcissism
According to the theoretical approaches of Heinz Kohut and Otto Kernberg, normal personality will
develop healthy and stable self regard. However, when high self esteem is taken too far, one can
develop an over inflated sense of self image. This need for attention and an overstated sense of self
admiration is best described as narcissism. In severe cases, narcissism can develop into a narcissistic
personality disorder. According to The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV, one who suffers from a
narcissistic personality disorder is at risk for violence. In order to determine if Hannibal Lecter suffers
from a narcissistic personality disorder, his personality traits and actions will need to be analyzed.
There is no debate that Hannibal Lecter s personality is that of a narcissist. Lecter is a well educated
man who knows the laws of society yet he chooses to disobey them because he believes he is above
the law. Furthermore, Lecter thrives on personal power, compliments, and lacks the ability to ... Show

behaviors of narcissism from time to time. So simply stating that Lecter is narcissistic does not
automatically classify him as having a narcissistic personality disorder. The main difference between a
narcissist and one who is suffering from a narcissistic personality disorder is that a narcissist is not
mentally ill. Lecter is obviously suffering from some type of personality disorder and is not just
simply interested in gaining money and reputation like a stereotypical narcissist. He not only kills but
he eats his victims to feel godlike and superior. Furthermore, he feels no remorse. Such behaviors and

The Nature Of Theatre In EuripidesBacchae
In Bacchae, Euripides explores the nature of theatre through Dionysus confrontation with his mortal
royal family, who has denied him a place of honor as a god. Euripides employs costume and choral
narration to portray Dionysus as a director of his own play and a patron of art, illuminating the
spiritually intoxicating and transformative nature of theatre.
The prologue introduces Dionysus, setting the scene of the drama while inviting the audience to
examine the nature of theatre through metatheatrical elements of the play. Dionysus introduces
himself to the audience and declares, I have changed from divine to human form, and here I am (5 6).
Through Dionysus disguise, Euripides alludes to the use of theatre costume. Furthermore, at the close
of the prologue, Dionysus directs the chorus on stage:
Now come, my sacred band of women,
That came with me from the bulwark of Lydia,
Mt. Tmolus, companions in my journey from abroad.
Take up the drums, the native drums of Phrygia, the ones I discovered, I and Mother Rhea.
(55 59)
In this moment of theatrical self consciousness, Dionysus transcends the narrative of the story. He is a
director of the play rather than the protagonist and not only guides his religious followers, but the
actors of the performance.
While theatre allows actors to assume the psyche of another character, Dionysus, similarly, provides
his worshipers the freedom to take upon a new persona and achieve spiritual ecstasy and revelation
through theatre.

Racial Formation
The Racial Formations of the Model Minority and Assimilating Whites
We use the term racial formation to refer to the process by which social, economic and political forces
determine the content and importance of racial categories, and by which they are in turn shaped by
racial meanings. (Omi and Winant 14) Through observing certain events in the economy, politics, and
society, we can understand the unwanted ascribing of racial identities to the minorities that led to their
unfair treatment and discrimination. The underlying factors that led to this utilization of racial
formation were a scarcity of jobs, political policies to maintain power, and racial division through
class differences.
The Chinese migrants were a group of people who migrated to America roughly a year after the the
annexation of California. They were a people the leaders praised, would cultivate Californian land and
develop the railroads that would connect the Atlantic states to what the fathers envisioned as the great
emporium of commerce and trade. The turmoil on their native land was the biggest factor in their
emigration out of China.
They were initially referred to as guest up until there was a scarcity of jobs. Unfortunately for the
Chinese, the rapidly changing economic climate had molded their racial formation. Nativist began to
fight back against the Chinese once they realized that they working against these people for jobs.
America demanded disposable workers for their dangerous

Foreign Affairs And The Pursuit Of Liberty Essay
Foreign Affairs and the Pursuit of Liberty Should America strengthen ties in foreign nations, or remain
neutral when external conflict arises? This question has faced every United States President who has
served, and will continue to stare the chief executive in the face. Whichever way the United States
decides, neutrality or involvement, there are certain pitfalls and triumphs that come from either
decision, but in some incidents the wrong decision can be detrimental. At the start of the nation,
George Washington led the country through times of both involvement and neutrality, eventually
bidding his country a goodbye with his Farwell Address, in which he warned his fellow citizens to
remain neutral if at all possible. As time goes by and the face of war has changes, Washington s advice
may have lost its relevance. In his time, Washington s advice to remain neutral was a word of wisdom,
but as new threats against American liberty arises, the United States President cannot avoid foreign
involvement, but rather engage in it for the sake of the American independence. As President George
Washington addressed his country one last time, he included many warnings in his address. One of
which was the dangers of becoming overly involved in external conflict. The President informs the
people ...nothing is more essential than that permanent, invertebrate antipathies against particular

The Elements Of The Genre Of Speculative Fiction
Next to being neo slave narratives, Kindred and Beloved, as well as Who Fears Death, are examples of
the genre of Speculative Fiction. This type of literature features supernatural and/or futuristic
elements. Is serves as an umbrella term and includes science fiction, fantasy, literary fiction,
supernatural fiction, horror, dystopia, utopia, (post )apocalyptic and superhero elements, as well as
their combinations (Jackson and Moody Freeman, 127). Hence, in Speculative Fiction the action of
the story can take place in a culture that never existed, a world we know nothing of, or an earth that
might have been or might be (Shade, 2). In other words, speculative literature includes all texts that
take place in a universe slightly different from our own (Wyatt, 1 2). Language is not merely
descriptive but also functions as a form of word building (Burnett, 137), as neologisms can be both
metaphorical and literal in this genre.
Speculative Fiction ranges back to ancient history and has been pervading humanity from the
beginning. Furby and Hines state that the human has always been a story telling ape (Furby and Hines,
10), as we get access to the world through the narrative. So called taproot texts, the very first fictional

If you divorce somebody, then you believe that your spouse is incapable of something. If you hold that
belief, then you are failing to trust your spouse on some level. As a reader you might question why I
am talking about marriage and divorce. The reason being is that the marriage is the basic building
block to our society. What happens in the home is a microcosm of what happens in our society as a
whole. So if trust is rampant in the home, then it is rampant in all parts of our society. Mistrust is so
rampant in our society that it is big business and people are enamored by tales of broken trust. I have
already mentioned the TV show Cheaters . It is going into its eleventh season of giving the American
public the food to quell its appetite for broken trust. There are numerous judge shows and other types
of reality based shows that feed this appetite. In the writing of this paper, I was looking for empirical
data on the cost of mistrust, but I could not find any proper sources. I know that the business of
mistrust is a multi billion dollar industry. The litigation cost alone is probably in the billions. The
numbers could be astronomical if you throw in the private investigation industry, health care cost due
to mistrust, and lost productivity in business. Think of all the additional tasks that are caused directly
by lack of trust. Audit departments only exist because of it. Companies keep voluminous records

Australian History And The Canadian Government
In our society, people with different cultures, backgrounds, and religions were considered unequal.
One of the many people that were treated unequally in Canadian History were the Aboriginals. Before
the war began, Aboriginals were not treated fairly by the Canadian government. Aboriginals struggled
to get a permanent job therefore clearly displaying Aboriginals struggling to get the resources they
need in order to survive. Canada s leader ignored this situation and continued to discriminate
Aboriginals (Marshall 2). Several times, Aboriginals were being used by their own country to do their
dirty jobs. The Canadian government did not want to risk true Canadian lives, so they used the
Aboriginals. By the 1990 s, one would think that the government would come to their senses and
realize that the Aboriginals are just like any other human being. However, this was not the case
because the Canadian Government tried stealing and taking Aboriginal belongings for their own needs
later on. Ultimately, the Aboriginal people were mainly treated unequally by the Government in the
Great War, The Manhattan Project, and the Oka Crisis. Aboriginal citizens in the Great War were more
than willing to enlist and volunteer however, they were not permitted to do so by the Canadian
Government (Armstrong et al.1). Aboriginals hoped that one day, their voices would be heard and that
they would get the rights that they deserve. Furthermore, in 1915, the Aboriginals thought the

Classic Colonialism In Africa
1.) Classic colonialism in Africa developed a rule of the economic agenda to its citizens livelihoods
and health. Colonialism provided a small amount of modern health care, and many of the policies of
classic colonialism worsened the state of public health. As a result, this destabilized the average
African household, and gave an easy rise to larger cities, causing a new level of racism in Africa. After
World War two, Africans would turn to Islam or Christianity; and many (especially those who

of the independence movement. For example, the teachings from Western Muslim or Christian schools
led to an exposure of the political ideology that emphasized natural rights influenced the African elite
to push the need for independence. Another example includes the African National Congress, which
while not terribly effective, defended the interests of Africans. 2.) At the turn of the century, many of

Howard County Flood Analysis
Flooding is one of the many risks that people and their private properties assume when they consider
living in a specific geographic location. This is true for the residents of Howard County, as they live
near the Chesapeake Bay, whose tributaries branch off into smaller rivers, streams and lakes. Due to
the fact that Howard County is more developed in the southeast and more rural in the west, there is a
correlation between the risk of flooding and the presence of human development. (any cite here?)
Natural factors play an integral role in determining the probability of flooding in a particular section
of the county as well. People and their private properties are highly impacted by flooding, as it can
cause death and injuries to humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, they have detailed information about the areas that are flood prone and provide this on
(is there a missing word following the comma?)several platforms, such as the Flood Insurance Rate
map required by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) that illustrates which parts of the
county are most at risk for flooding, as well as other informational categories(please elaborate on or
list the categories) (Howard County Website). Moreover, the Howard County government has several
restrictions and permit requirements that prevent or at least make it more difficult for people to
establish (build?) their private properties in flood prone areas. For instance, Howard County has
restrictions that a resident s private property has to be within the County regulated 100 year floodplain
delineated for smaller drainage areas (Howard County website). (check on the accuracy of the
previous quote) In addition, residents must consult with county officials prior to altering the exterior
of their house in any way to ensure that the project is in compliance with any floodplain restrictions
(Anderson, Baltimore Sun). Finally, residents and their private properties can be better protected from
the financial risk of flooding if they acquire flood insurance, which is mandatory for certain high risk
areas (called Special Flood Hazard Areas) and has to

Marilyn Monroe Informative Speech
The year is 1962. The audience of Madison Square Garden is packed full of the rich and famous.
Among them sits the guest of honor in all his glory, President John F. Kennedy. All eyes are tuned into
the stage, among it stands a blond bombshell crooning into a microphone. The words Happy Birthday
Mr. President slip through her lips in a light breathy voice. To her family she is Norma Jeane but to the
world, she is Marilyn Monroe (Thomson, 2016).
She was a sex symbol, a pinnacle for women, and an all around icon. Marilyn s persona appealed to
the masses as effortless. But contrary to those beliefs, her efforts were thought through and calculated.
During her childhood little Norma Jeane was shy and plagued by low self esteem (Victor, 1999). ...

Marilyn didn t spend time with speech pathologists but instead with drama and vocal coaches (Victor,
1999). These coaches helped her harness and control her stutter and instead take her struggle and turn
it into something positive. In the beginning of her career, Marilyn s voice was described as a tight
squeak (Victor, 1999). Through the guides of her vocal coaches the voice we all know and recognize
as Marilyn Monroe, was created. To a large extent, the Marilyn voice of the first half of her career,
with its exaggerated clarity and staccato stressing of d and t , was the result of tutoring from Lytess
(Victor, 1999). Lytess encouraged her to lower her tone and from that rose Marilyn s infamous breathy
seductive timbre. It is believed that this change in how she speaks, almost as if in character, is what
cured Marilyn s stutter (Victor, 1999). The idea of modifying ones tone, proves to be a successful
method of therapy in the world of speech pathology Many of the current therapies for teens and adults
who stutter focus on helping them learn ways to minimize stuttering when they speak, such as by
speaking more slowly, regulating their breathing, or gradually progressing from single syllable
responses to longer words and more complex sentences. Most of these therapies also help address the
anxiety a person who stutters may feel

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets Essay
When people watch or think of their favorite movie, they don t usually sit and analyze the underlying
philosophical themes within them. However, in reality, understanding the philosophical ideas is an
important aspect if someone wants to perceive the movie as a whole. So why do people not catch these
important aspects within their favorite movies? There could be many reasons, but the two most
prominent are that the viewers lack philosophical knowledge or the directors disguise these issues so
well they re almost impossible to notice. One of my favorite films, Harry Potter and the Chamber of
Secrets, contains many hidden philosophical themes I never detected in a multitude of previous
viewings. Although the movie contains multiple philosophical ideas, the most significantly recurring
philosophical theme is that there is strength within a community and in our relationships with others.
Furthermore, it is important to understand that our relationships with others can ultimately determine
our choices.
Before analyzing the severity of this philosophical theme, it is necessary to have a basic understanding
of the overall plot of this movie. The movie begins with the protagonist, Harry Potter, spending a
dreadful summer with his only surviving family, the Dursleys. During a dinner party, Harry is visited
by a house elf, Dobby. When Harry declines Dobby s warning to not return to Hogwarts, he turns the
dinner into a disaster. The enraged Dursley s lock Harry in his

Disillusionment In The Vietnam War
Thomas the Apostle once said that seeing is believing, and rightfully so. A person consciously chooses
to stand firm in his beliefs until given cold, hard evidence that proves a different reality and opens his
eyes. Coming to understand these new facts is a vital part of life that man must face in order to better
understand the natural world. However, new knowledge can become a double edged sword when it
attributes to man s disillusionment. An individual s mindset falls into the depths of despair when
introduced to a harsh reality that clashes with his previous perceptions of right and wrong.
Unfortunately, the entirety of America faced such a reality during the Vietnam War. According to
Spector, a large number of journalists found themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, American citizens no longer saw war with such optimism after witnessing the pessimistic
reports that the news chose to televise. In one report, a journalist from CBS Evening News followed
American troops as they pillaged and burnt down a village. The news televised graphic images of the
burning homes, and the journalist on the scene solemnly listed the peaceful Vietnamese that died in
the process. Soon afterward, Americans became outraged (CBSN). At this point, America could no
longer view war as something glorious. The United States not only witnessed as their troops cause
death but also as their troops met their own ends. According to Spector, the media s tendency to report
about negative events such as death undermined American support for the Vietnam War. As casualties
increased, support decreased (Spector). It is also important to note that casualties would logically
increase as the amount of time the war went on increasing. Since the news reported events unfolding
in the war each day, a person would hear about death every day. These daily death reports would not
only be extremely depressing, but they would also have a compound effect as time continued. The
media s reports on death and destruction changed turned America s perception of war into one that
was bleak and hopeless. Many Americans no longer felt they could support the war due to the
disillusionment they

The Harsh And Cold War At Valley Forge Analysis
The Harsh and Cold War at Valley Forge
The freezing air is blowing as I lay in bed listening to the soldiers moan struggling to survive in this
harsh war. There are many bitter conditions here at Valley Forge. There is a big risk staying here as we
struggle to stay alive. My hut is filled with smoke and is surrounded by the cold snow. We have huts
that are a few feet long and have a small fireplace on one side and a door on the other. The food here is
horrible and barely keeps us alive. We get a small piece of meat each day and a little bit of cornmeal. I
have decided to re enlist for 3 reasons which are that I need to fight for a cause, to help the sick and
dying army, and to get my family and aging mother into a free country.
In 1775, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My skin and eyes are almost spoil d with continual smoke. (Dr. Waldo 151) I need to help the
Continental army fight and defend against the British. On February 1, 1778, 3989 soldiers were sick
and could not get out of their beds. (Busch 147) Then the Congressmen came and General Washington
showed them that we are not in good condition and need new supplies to help us survive. (Powell 149)
I think that with their help, we could have more food and better clothing. As I was talking to Dr.
Waldo, he said that if we are kept in this condition, there are not going to be very many people to fight
and keep our country free. (Waldo 151) This is causing me to re enlist because I need to help my army
to withstand the harsh winter. Hopefully the Congressmen will stay and supply us with the food and
supplies that we

  • 2. She Was A Little Girl She was in his bed. Kelsey... He sighed. Come on Professor, She grinned. The sooner it happens, the sooner we can go back to how everything used to be. He put his hands on his hips and shook his head. Kelsey, I know what you re feeling but this is just a crush. It s natural for girls of your age to form attachments become infatuated... What is it? He switched his tone as she began to laugh. Nothing, keep going. She said through stifled laughs. No, seriously, what s so funny? He looked a little abashed. It s just, you think I m some innocent little girl. I m eighteen, Professor. You re not doing anything wrong. I ve done stuff with guys before, but now I m ready to have sex. She said dejectedly, taking her hand from between her legs. She closed them slowly and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, covering her breasts instinctively with her other arm. Kelsey, you don t have to... He sighed, knowing that there was no way to not hurt her now unless he told her the truth. Alright. I ll tell you the whole story. She looked up through glassy eyes. Caldwell began to pace. Your father and I used to be good friends. As you know, he used to teach English Literature as well before he became the Dean. When he moved up to the big office, his replacement was a woman. Her name was Christine... Kelsey went wide eyed. My... My mother? Caldwell nodded. We worked together, became... Close. We were together when your father stole her from me. Kelsey s jaw moved uselessly as she processed it. It was you? You were the guy that my mother was with when she met my father? Yes. I loved her. But love wasn t the same as money, I guess. He was older, more accomplished, he had a bigger house, a bigger wallet... He was more of a sound investment. Caldwell scoffed and shook his head. And the worst thing is that every time I look at you... I see her. You re not unlike her, you know. You ve got your father s condescending attitude and overconfidence, that s for sure, but otherwise, you re Christine, sitting there, the same way she used to. He choked on ... • 3. Examine the Argument that Places Can Be a Source of... In order to answer the question, it is necessary to define identity and specifically the way social scientist define identity. An individual has multiple identities, both personally and socially. These connect them to other people relational identity; to groups, neighbourhoods, and communities social identity; and to immediate situation or surroundings situational identity. Very few theories or concepts support the idea of an essential personal identity . A concept that is more favourable is that who I am is learnt and that it does change often over our life span. A contrary explanation is that personal identity is not completely separate from social identity. Including group/collective identies, for example gender is both a social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is the effectiveness, of these skills that helps create and maintain social order. These unspoken rules of social etiquette lead to society having preconceived ideas of what is the norm . This is almost automatic, yet if normal behaviour is breached without repair, it is immediately noticed. In addition, anything outside of these values of normality is viewed negatively or with suspicion, this in turn can lead to exclusion of those outside of these so called norms . Identities of groups refers to differences as well as similarities; writer, Jonathan Raban visited New York during the 1980s. New York was experiencing record numbers of homeless living on the city s streets. Raban noted how negatively other people described them: Long term mental patients discharged from hospitals...crack addicts, thieves, alcoholics (Raban, cited in Taylor, 2009, P. 176). Over time, these separate identities blend and become one larger identity: the Street People, Raban suggested that it be given capitals as is used similarly to that of national or tribal identity. Making it a relational identity, Raban conducted participant observation, he performed both identies, that of the Street People and that of those walking by. He observed how when performing the passer by identity it is vital to keep moving as once stationary, even though still the same person; to those who are moving, he is now part of the Street People collective and shares their negative ... • 4. Essay On The Art Of Camille Corot When I first saw this painting done by Camille Corot, I was in awe. It was one of the many beautiful paintings that I saw on my first trip to the Fine Arts Museum of Houston. The painting looks almost dreamlike and soft, which amazed me on how a painter could create an art piece as such. This piece is called Orpheus Leading Eurydice from the Underworld, by Camille Corot, French, 1861, the medium is oil on canvas. I was immediately attracted to this art piece because of the earthy and naturalistic colors used, and how the landscape seems almost hazy. This enchanting painting tells the tragic Greek myth of Orpheus, the Greek god of music, saving his wife, Eurydice, from Hades, God of the Underworld. Orpheus absentmindedly breaks the terms of ... This firm resolve will stop me forming any serious attachments. That is to say, I shall not get married . I like the softness of how Corot painted this art piece. The painting, to me, looks simple yet topographical, due to the trees and bushes painted. What I did not like about this piece is the way he depicted the Underworld. The Underworld is said to be very dark and gloomy, due to all the dead spirits living there, but Corot paints it with light and lush, making it look anything but eerie. He uses Time and motion by showing Orpheus legs in a walking position, whilst holding Eurydice arm, leading her out of the Hades Underworld. Also, the texture of the trees and bushes have a realistic topographical and layered appearance with shades of blacks and browns. Since Corot is a landscape painter, he often uses atmospheric perspective to create the illusion of depth. He shows the spirits mourning their death in the background with shades of cool tones and uses light colors, while emphasizing Eurydice and Orpheus in the foreground with more deep and darker colors. Another element I ve seen in Corot s painting is his use of space, he shows Orpheus and Eurydice on the corner right while the rest of the image is more focused on his beautiful landscape in the background. Additionally, the focal point that immediately caught my eyes attention was the spirits depicted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Changes In The Upper Palaeolithic Periods Introduction The Upper Palaeolithic was an explosion of cultural and behavioural changes that were not present in the lower and middle Palaeolithic periods. These are things such as the creation of art and figurines and the development of technology in tools that were used. These changes show how communities and individuals were progressing into what we now consider modern human behaviours... Art We know that the art that was being created in Europe during the Upper Palaeolithic we created by the Cro Magnons for over 25,000 years (Springer and Andrews 2011). The art that is present in the Upper Palaeolithic is categorised using two systems, parietal (paintings and engravings found on cave walls) and mobiliary (figurines and other small portable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This change in behaviour could imply how to populations of the Upper Palaeolithic were developing emotions and feelings for the deceased and how they saw life and death in their populations (Renfrew and Bahn 2016; Formicola 2007). While the act of burying the deceased individuals is interesting, the effort that they took enhancing their appearance by placing beads, the use of red ochre and other elaborate mortuary practices shows the changes that were happening to the development of culture in these communities (Dobrovolskaya et al. 2011; Renfrew and Bahn 2016). There is evidence that the upper Palaeolithic communities could have has a social structure within these communities, as with more burial discoveries, there is a clear showing that some individuals had been buried with more grave goods and more time was taken when preparing the burial (Springer and Andrews 2011). The Sunghir burial in Russia contains the skeletal remains of an adult male and double burial of a boy and girl. Both burials contained ivory beads that were attached to clothes they were wearing when buried; there were nearly 3000 ivory beads found in the adult male burial, the double child burials contained over 10,000 beads together which would have taken many hours to create (Springer and Andrews 2011). The time taken to create these grave goods could suggest they were important people within their communities such as offspring of a chief (Springer and Andrews ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Orwell s The Brave New World In both texts, Nineteen Eighty Four and Brave New World it is clear from the start the societies show a heavy reliance on state control as a means of maintaining the dystopian civilizations. George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four is a powerful presentation of a dystopian society under the influence and control of a totalitarian government. Orwell uses the character of Winston as a vehicle to explore the extent of the governments oppressive techniques. It is the key to ultimate social control and it is used in that way; without the advanced technology the society of Brave New World would not be able to achieve such powerful control. Technology is necessary for all of the vital aspects of the mass reproduction with medical interference. For example the Bokanovsky process and hypnopaedia conditioning both rely heavily on medical and technological advances. As a result the society is fragmented and unchanging. The plot s heavy reliance on science could be argued to be due to Huxley s affluent background and family history within the science field. His grandfather was nicknamed Darwin s bulldog for his support of Darwin s theories and his active role within Biology. In Nineteen Eighty Four technology is used very differently, it essence is still ¬¬the same (social control) however they use it for invasive monitoring into every aspect of the citizens life. How Nicaragua s Of Special Law 364 Blocks The Fnc In the late 1900s, several Latin American governments, including Nicaragua, began drafting and enacting anti FNC (forum non conveniens) statues to counter its effects. FNC is a legal doctrine which authorizes a court to reject a foreign plaintiff s case on grounds that there is a more appropriate and convenient forum, the plaintiff s home nation s court. They enacted Special Law 364 to block or counteract the FNC dismissal of cases brought to the United States by former Nicaraguan agricultural banana plantation workers who claimed sterility from exposure to the toxic pesticide dibromochloropropane (DBCP) while working for the Dole Food Company. In Rozencranz and Roblin s article, Tellez v. This paper will examine how Nicaragua s enactment of Special Law 364 blocks the FNC and can be called a significant impetus fraud that does not comply with international standards for due process. We will also focus on the legal defense strategy that Dole s attorney s employed after the Tellez jury verdict and prove how it is aimed to discredit the DBCP plaintiffs; as well as how Judge Chaney facilitated this strategy by disabling the adversarial process which suggests that Judge Chaney s method of evaluating evidence is indeed flawed and ... It was a statue of the Greek titan god of the sun Helios and was constructed in the city of Rhodes on a Greek island, which was also named Rhodes, in 292 BC. The statue was constructed to commemorate Rhodes s conquest over the leader of Cyprus. It was demolished during the earthquake of 226 BC, and was never rebuilt. It is about the activity being the vehicle for the acquisition of the disposition to learn. Dispositions are voluntary and frequent habits of doing and thinking. They are environmentally sensitive as they could be acquired and supported by the interactive experiences in an environment with adults, peers and the nature around them (Bertram Pascal 2002; Aitken, Hunt, Roy Sajfar, 2012). The Early Years Learning Framework lists different dispositions of learning. They ordered them as follows curiosity, creativity, commitment, persistence, cooperation, enthusiasm, imagination, reflexivity and confidence (DEEWR, 2009). Curiosity is the opportunity that the child has to enhance his or her exploration skills using different senses. It also helps the children to extend no their learning (Aitken, Hunt, Roy Sajfar, 2012; Buckingham Shum Deakin Crick, 2012). For example, Tanya and Rayana demonstrated their curiosity as they focused on observing what would happen to the water when the oil was added. Then, they used their understanding to compare between mixing different substances together as some will mix while others will not. However, they have no use for adventures (Tolkien 12) and prefer not to involve themselves with those that do. Bilbo Baggins, on the other hand, comes from a long line of rebellious hobbits, who craved adventure. Despite his introvert life, Bilbo cannot avoid adventure when it tumbles into his hobbit hole. The novel, The Hobbit, supplies a fictional account of the positive and negative outcomes produced by fluctuating self esteem and the Law of Attraction throughout a young hobbits adventure through Middle Earth. The Law of Attraction sounds as though it could be a complicated scientific theory; however, the theory is quite simple: your thoughts become things (Byrne 25). Whatever the mind focuses on, the universe attracts. For example, in The Hobbit, Thorin Co., the group of dwarves that hire Bilbo Baggins, traveled far and wide and regularly grew short on food and supplies. Hobbits and dwarves are known for having incredibly healthy appetites, therefore, days without food was horrific. Unfortunately, days with little to no provisions were inevitable. However, Thorin Co. set the majority of their thoughts on low rations. According to the Law of Attraction, it is no surprise that the thoughts centered on low rations, eventually created a reality of low rations. It is innate to regard that one self s unrivaled conduct and notion are factual, which leads society to become perplexed by that which they deem foreign. Thus, when one denounces another s truth chaos ensues. Fr. Gregory Boyle offers that compassion and kinship are necessary to live in harmony yet, kinship cannot stand alone, and compassion must be present to create unanimity. Kinship implies that compassion is present, but that is not always correct yet, with compassion a perceived kinship is always present. The story Jane Eyre completely contradicts this quote, especially during the social extravaganza, which was put on by Mr. Rochester and the Thornfield workers. Since she would be delivered to Xiongnu a barbarian chieftain by Emperor Yuan to make peace and order between them. Further more this painting displays the emotions of the painting through the colors, the message that is trying to reveal through the scale of the screen painting, and the effort put into every detail of the painting. In the screen painting, Women in a Palace definitely display its emptions through the colors of the painting. For example, the color Green is used a lot in the painting, which I believe, means that the painter wanted to display a new life that she will lead. I believe this because if I think about it for a while you think green is color of new life and she is getting a new life by getting departed from the castle. Then comes the color red, which probably means the difficulty that Wang Zhaojun would lead in a new area that she knows nothing about. Next we have the color brown, which probably means comfortability. • 32. The Nature Of Theatre In EuripidesBacchae In Bacchae, Euripides explores the nature of theatre through Dionysus confrontation with his mortal royal family, who has denied him a place of honor as a god. Euripides employs costume and choral narration to portray Dionysus as a director of his own play and a patron of art, illuminating the spiritually intoxicating and transformative nature of theatre. The prologue introduces Dionysus, setting the scene of the drama while inviting the audience to examine the nature of theatre through metatheatrical elements of the play. Dionysus introduces himself to the audience and declares, I have changed from divine to human form, and here I am (5 6). Through Dionysus disguise, Euripides alludes to the use of theatre costume. Furthermore, at the close of the prologue, Dionysus directs the chorus on stage: Now come, my sacred band of women, That came with me from the bulwark of Lydia, Mt. Tmolus, companions in my journey from abroad. Take up the drums, the native drums of Phrygia, the ones I discovered, I and Mother Rhea. (55 59) In this moment of theatrical self consciousness, Dionysus transcends the narrative of the story. He is a director of the play rather than the protagonist and not only guides his religious followers, but the actors of the performance. While theatre allows actors to assume the psyche of another character, Dionysus, similarly, provides his worshipers the freedom to take upon a new persona and achieve spiritual ecstasy and revelation through theatre. ... What happens in the home is a microcosm of what happens in our society as a whole. So if trust is rampant in the home, then it is rampant in all parts of our society. In the writing of this paper, I was looking for empirical data on the cost of mistrust, but I could not find any proper sources. I know that the business of mistrust is a multi billion dollar industry. The litigation cost alone is probably in the billions. The numbers could be astronomical if you throw in the private investigation industry, health care cost due to mistrust, and lost productivity in business. Think of all the additional tasks that are caused directly by lack of trust. Audit departments only exist because of it. Companies keep voluminous records because they ... • 39. Australian History And The Canadian Government In our society, people with different cultures, backgrounds, and religions were considered unequal. One of the many people that were treated unequally in Canadian History were the Aboriginals. Before the war began, Aboriginals were not treated fairly by the Canadian government. Aboriginals struggled to get a permanent job therefore clearly displaying Aboriginals struggling to get the resources they need in order to survive. Canada s leader ignored this situation and continued to discriminate Aboriginals (Marshall 2). Several times, Aboriginals were being used by their own country to do their dirty jobs. The Canadian government did not want to risk true Canadian lives, so they used the Aboriginals. By the 1990 s, one would think that the government would come to their senses and realize that the Aboriginals are just like any other human being. However, this was not the case because the Canadian Government tried stealing and taking Aboriginal belongings for their own needs later on. Ultimately, the Aboriginal people were mainly treated unequally by the Government in the Great War, The Manhattan Project, and the Oka Crisis. Aboriginal citizens in the Great War were more than willing to enlist and volunteer however, they were not permitted to do so by the Canadian Government (Armstrong et al.1). Aboriginals hoped that one day, their voices would be heard and that they would get the rights that they deserve. Furthermore, in 1915, the Aboriginals thought the Canadian ... • 40. Classic Colonialism In Africa 1.) Classic colonialism in Africa developed a rule of the economic agenda to its citizens livelihoods and health. Colonialism provided a small amount of modern health care, and many of the policies of classic colonialism worsened the state of public health. As a result, this destabilized the average African household, and gave an easy rise to larger cities, causing a new level of racism in Africa. After World War two, Africans would turn to Islam or Christianity; and many (especially those who participated in WW2) demanded independence. There were several forces that rose to the importance of the independence movement. For example, the teachings from Western Muslim or Christian schools led to an exposure of the political ideology that emphasized natural rights influenced the African elite to push the need for independence. Another example includes the African National Congress, which while not terribly effective, defended the interests of Africans. 2.) • 42. Howard County Flood Analysis Flooding is one of the many risks that people and their private properties assume when they consider living in a specific geographic location. This is true for the residents of Howard County, as they live near the Chesapeake Bay, whose tributaries branch off into smaller rivers, streams and lakes. Due to the fact that Howard County is more developed in the southeast and more rural in the west, there is a correlation between the risk of flooding and the presence of human development. (any cite here?) Natural factors play an integral role in determining the probability of flooding in a particular section of the county as well. Moreover, the Howard County government has several restrictions and permit requirements that prevent or at least make it more difficult for people to establish (build?) their private properties in flood prone areas. For instance, Howard County has restrictions that a resident s private property has to be within the County regulated 100 year floodplain delineated for smaller drainage areas (Howard County website). (check on the accuracy of the previous quote) In addition, residents must consult with county officials prior to altering the exterior of their house in any way to ensure that the project is in compliance with any floodplain restrictions (Anderson, Baltimore Sun). Finally, residents and their private properties can be better protected from the financial risk of flooding if they acquire flood insurance, which is mandatory for certain high risk areas (called Special Flood Hazard Areas) and has to ... • 43. Marilyn Monroe Informative Speech The year is 1962. The audience of Madison Square Garden is packed full of the rich and famous. Among them sits the guest of honor in all his glory, President John F. Kennedy. All eyes are tuned into the stage, among it stands a blond bombshell crooning into a microphone. The words Happy Birthday Mr. President slip through her lips in a light breathy voice. To her family she is Norma Jeane but to the world, she is Marilyn Monroe (Thomson, 2016). She was a sex symbol, a pinnacle for women, and an all around icon. Marilyn s persona appealed to the masses as effortless. But contrary to those beliefs, her efforts were thought through and calculated. During her childhood little Norma Jeane was shy and plagued by low self esteem (Victor, 1999). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marilyn didn t spend time with speech pathologists but instead with drama and vocal coaches (Victor, 1999). These coaches helped her harness and control her stutter and instead take her struggle and turn it into something positive. In the beginning of her career, Marilyn s voice was described as a tight squeak (Victor, 1999). Through the guides of her vocal coaches the voice we all know and recognize as Marilyn Monroe, was created. To a large extent, the Marilyn voice of the first half of her career, with its exaggerated clarity and staccato stressing of d and t , was the result of tutoring from Lytess (Victor, 1999). Lytess encouraged her to lower her tone and from that rose Marilyn s infamous breathy seductive timbre. It is believed that this change in how she speaks, almost as if in character, is what cured Marilyn s stutter (Victor, 1999). The idea of modifying ones tone, proves to be a successful method of therapy in the world of speech pathology Many of the current therapies for teens and adults who stutter focus on helping them learn ways to minimize stuttering when they speak, such as by speaking more slowly, regulating their breathing, or gradually progressing from single syllable responses to longer words and more complex sentences. Most of these therapies also help address the anxiety a person who stutters may feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets Essay When people watch or think of their favorite movie, they don t usually sit and analyze the underlying philosophical themes within them. However, in reality, understanding the philosophical ideas is an important aspect if someone wants to perceive the movie as a whole. So why do people not catch these important aspects within their favorite movies? There could be many reasons, but the two most prominent are that the viewers lack philosophical knowledge or the directors disguise these issues so well they re almost impossible to notice. One of my favorite films, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, contains many hidden philosophical themes I never detected in a multitude of previous viewings. Although the movie contains multiple philosophical ideas, the most significantly recurring philosophical theme is that there is strength within a community and in our relationships with others. Furthermore, it is important to understand that our relationships with others can ultimately determine our choices. Before analyzing the severity of this philosophical theme, it is necessary to have a basic understanding of the overall plot of this movie. The movie begins with the protagonist, Harry Potter, spending a dreadful summer with his only surviving family, the Dursleys. During a dinner party, Harry is visited by a house elf, Dobby. When Harry declines Dobby s warning to not return to Hogwarts, he turns the dinner into a disaster. The enraged Dursley s lock Harry in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Disillusionment In The Vietnam War Thomas the Apostle once said that seeing is believing, and rightfully so. A person consciously chooses to stand firm in his beliefs until given cold, hard evidence that proves a different reality and opens his eyes. Coming to understand these new facts is a vital part of life that man must face in order to better understand the natural world. However, new knowledge can become a double edged sword when it attributes to man s disillusionment. An individual s mindset falls into the depths of despair when introduced to a harsh reality that clashes with his previous perceptions of right and wrong. Unfortunately, the entirety of America faced such a reality during the Vietnam War. According to Spector, a large number of journalists found themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, American citizens no longer saw war with such optimism after witnessing the pessimistic reports that the news chose to televise. In one report, a journalist from CBS Evening News followed American troops as they pillaged and burnt down a village. The news televised graphic images of the burning homes, and the journalist on the scene solemnly listed the peaceful Vietnamese that died in the process. Soon afterward, Americans became outraged (CBSN). At this point, America could no longer view war as something glorious. The United States not only witnessed as their troops cause death but also as their troops met their own ends. According to Spector, the media s tendency to report about negative events such as death undermined American support for the Vietnam War. As casualties increased, support decreased (Spector). It is also important to note that casualties would logically increase as the amount of time the war went on increasing. Since the news reported events unfolding in the war each day, a person would hear about death every day. These daily death reports would not only be extremely depressing, but they would also have a compound effect as time continued. The media s reports on death and destruction changed turned America s perception of war into one that was bleak and hopeless. Many Americans no longer felt they could support the war due to the disillusionment they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Harsh And Cold War At Valley Forge Analysis The Harsh and Cold War at Valley Forge The freezing air is blowing as I lay in bed listening to the soldiers moan struggling to survive in this harsh war. There are many bitter conditions here at Valley Forge. There is a big risk staying here as we struggle to stay alive. My hut is filled with smoke and is surrounded by the cold snow. We have huts that are a few feet long and have a small fireplace on one side and a door on the other. The food here is horrible and barely keeps us alive. We get a small piece of meat each day and a little bit of cornmeal.
