Debussy s Portfoliographie-Personal Narrative
Shoving the door open with my hip, I enter the dingy practice room, my hands full of books and
school supplies. It takes me two strides to walk from the door to the mahogany piano up against the
far wall, where it sits exactly as I left it last night. I drop my things on the floor, pull the small bench
out from beneath the piano and sit upon it, making myself as comfortable as possible on the worn
cushions. Debussy s Reverie erupts from my fingers without even thinking twice. The old piano keys
don t shy away from my touch; in fact, they almost seem to quiver with delight at every note I play. Of
course, playing one piano alone for an entire year may have that effect. My music professor gave me
special permission to have this piano for my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why d you take my scarf, Tum? I shake my head at the use of his pet name for me. I m cold. The
temperature in the practice rooms always dips below room temperature, and Derik s wardrobe choices,
which always includes a jacket or scarf, help in such times. Autumn, you re always cold. Even if you
lived in Africa, you d still be cold. Derik s comment makes me laugh, but the door to the practice
room inching open stops it in my throat. Derik notices me eyeing the door and glances at it. What?
What did you see? I don t know. I shake my head, rubbing my eyes. I thought I saw someone opening
the door. Derik gets off of the piano bench and creeps over to the doorway. He grabs the edge of the
door and opens it slowly. A hand suddenly reaches out and grabs Derik by the wrist. He starts and I
almost scream, but I realize that I recognize those perfectly French manicured nails. It takes me two
seconds to walk from the piano to the door and by that time, Brielle has already started dragging Derik
down the hall. Autumn! He whispers, trying to yank his arm away from Brielle s clutches. Stay out of
sight! But... Before I can finish my sentence, they both disappear from view. I stand in the hallway for

Hair Styles and Make-up of the Renaissance
Hair styles and make up have been a significant part of the culture for centuries. It has been changing
with every era, decade or style of art. The difference can be as small as a change of a shape of the
eyeliner or it can be a complete change of people s looks. What was considered beautiful in
Renaissance was absolutely outdated 100 years after this era. In this essay I will be talking about the
hair and make up in Renaissance. It all started in Italy, home of the greatest artists of the time. The
first section of my essay will be about Italy and the way people were changing their natural
appearances using various products. In the second section I will move to the north of Europe to
explore a bit more about this topic and see how much the fashion that was set in Italy has changed. In
the third section I will look at what was going on in the Great Britain and compare the Elizabethan
hair and make up to the continental style.
Italy has always been a cultural capital, at least in the eyes of people who have taught me history and
art. Majestic buildings, amazing paintings, impressive statues that is just a fraction of what was
created in Italy. Renaissance is a unique era, after the Gothic art strictly controlled by the Christian
Church; people are turning their eyes away from the God and the God alone to themselves as well.
Leonardo Da Vinci is studying anatomy and people are trying to look their best. Portraits of real
people come back after years and years of portraying

St Thomas Aquinas Research Paper
ST. Thomas Aquinas was a philosopher who was born in 1225 and has strongly influenced the
academic and theological fields since then. He studied under Alfred the Great when he joined the
Dominican order. After he graduated he went on to teach in Bologna, Paris, Rome, Cambridge, and
Cologne. Surprisingly he came up from a aristocratic family and was the son of a wealthy banker, the
story goes that he decided to join the Dominican order, so his family locked him away for a year
trying to persuade him from joining. Thomas Aquinas s most famous work was the Summa
Theologica, it is a brief overview of all the questions and answers explained in the vast Summa Contra
Gentiles. However his works are not limited to just the Summa Contra ... Show more content on

For years Thomas Aquinas devoted all his time and energy to accomplish the Summa Theologica, but
unfortunately he never finished it. The story went that he had a vision while he was sleeping and when
he awoke he professed that all of his works were mere straw compare to what he envisioned. One of
his best know works is the potentiality and actuality theory, potentiality is the concept that anything
has the potential to be in a specific place or do a specific action, but the actuality is the object being
moved from its original state to its new state of being. For example, if an spoon was sitting on a table,
it has the potential to be moved to the counter, but the actuality part would be me or someone moving
that spoon on the counter. What a lot of people don t understand is that he isn t making the argument
that the universe had to have some form of actuality to be created because if he did someone else
could make the argument that God had to have something actualize him in order to be in

Social Justice Promotes Equality Among People
Social justice promotes equality among people. Having the opportunity to describe social justice s
impact on my own life has challenged me to reflect on the blessings I have been given. Because I have
so much for which to be grateful, I have made acts of service a priority. Through community service, I
have gained a unique understanding of the importance of social justice and equality for all people. A
mentor once said to me, It is much better to be tired and making a difference in the world than to be
well rested and doing nothing. When I first entered high school, I was looking forward to new clubs
and activities that were now available to me. One club that caught my eye was Life Skills, a program
that involved enrolling in a gym class with the special needs students and ... Show more content on

to increase awareness of the program, but it has developed into something much more significant than
I ever imagined. Through this increased awareness, the Life Skills program was able to arrange a
soccer game, and the stands were packed with the classes that I had been involved with teaching. Ben
was absolutely thrilled to be playing a soccer game. After the game was over, and Ben received
countless standing ovations from our peers. It was then that he turned to me and said he finally felt
like he fit in at our high school. Ben had an opportunity to shine on the soccer field, which allowed me
to realize how essential it is to enjoy the little things in life and how profound an impact one person
can make in someone else s life. All people deserve moments to shine, which is why promoting social
justice in our world is essential. Not only was I able to change how Ben viewed the world, I was able

California Is Notorious For Its Wildfires
California is notorious for its wildfires. In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of
the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San
Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county s disposition as, We have a very dangerous,
unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest landscape
conditions, and some of the most powerful winds all ingredients for a perfect firestorm (Pesce, 2007).
In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar Fire, and at that time
it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again devastated by firestorms,
but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., Steffen, 2003). San Diego has had its
fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003 firestorms proved that there
were numerous inefficiencies within the county s emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms
emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were
effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing
drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). Having a well
constructed Incident Command System (ICS) and the trained personnel to execute its model is the
most effective measure to mitigate the degree of life lost and property damage in a disaster incident. A

Cost Of Perfectionism Essay
Perfection is often treated as a trait that is unattainable, yet we subconsciously strive to be perfect in
many aspects of our lives. Working to be successful and high achieving isn t necessarily a bad thing,
but it can grow out of hand when perfection is the only thought on our mind. Because of this, it is
necessary to find the right balance when dealing with perfectionism. When it comes to achieving our
goals, some amount of perfectionism can be very helpful. Thinking like a perfectionist boosts your
motivation and spikes the amount of effort put into every activity. The combination of intense
motivation and consistent high quality work can make it quite easy to achieve any goals you may set,
both in the short term and long term. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Happiness is the key to perfection. Once you are truly happy with who you are and the life you have,
that is when I think people have reached perfection. It s a struggle, I won t lie about that, and it
involves all three aspects discussed here. Achieving goals, finding happiness, and maintaining self
worth all go hand in hand with each other, and it is difficult to balance one aspect with perfectionism
without having the other two. They are all linked, and are all very important. But when it comes down
to it, which will last a lifetime: the 100% on the paper you wrote as a teenager, or the way you can
wholeheartedly love and accept yourself? Whether that means I get straight A s or not, all that matters
is that I feel good about what I m doing, and feel confident in every decision ( My Life in a Nutshell

kindness and perfection over happiness. But for once we should look at the things that truly matter in

Describe The Main Hypothesis Tested In The Study
1. Describe the main hypothesis tested in the study.
The main hypothesis being tested within the study was whether or not the fusiform gyrus was a
Region of Interest (ROI) that specialised in the perception of the human face. This main hypothesis
was confirmed in Part 1 of testing and was thus expanded in Part II and III, in which they eliminated
alternative hypothesis.
2. Explain why this new ROI technique is important for fMRI research.
The Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a functional neuroimaging procedure that used
MRI technology to measure our brains activity through blood flow changes and our voxels.
In past experiments the researcher would have been required to scan images of the entire brain for
each comparison, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Explain one of the alternative accounts of the function of the FFA and how the current study is able to
refute (prove wrong) this account.
Imaging studies in the past have reported that the region of the fusiform gyrus is more active during
face recognition than object viewing, during face matching than location matching and during viewing
normal faces other than scrambled faces or textures. This research was a great beginning, but it does
not establish that this FFA is specifically involved in face recognition, as there is a range of alternative
interpretations of what can activate our brains. These alternative interpretations include low level
feature extraction, visual attention that is greater in faces and recognition of basic items and
recognition of human objects.
To test the first hypothesis the researcher ran an initial test to determine that the Region of Interest was
the fusiform gyrus. Following this he then measured the activity in this specific region to subjects
using four comparison tasks. Each of these tasks tested the alternative accounts that were previously
listed.
Part III tested one of these alternative accounts for faces compared with another human object e.g
hands. In these tests the data that was collected displayed higher intensity reactions in the ROI when
parts of the face were compared to viewing human

Rio Bravo River Research Paper
WWF works to secure the correct volume, timing and amount of water in a river so people and nature
can thrive. Working across the globe, WWF supports responsible water use and infrastructure.
Sometimes that work involves numerous partners across country borders as demonstrated by our work
on the Rio Grande. This river, also known as the Rio Bravo, serves as part of the border between the
United States and Mexico. Located in the Chihuahuan Desert, this river provides water to some of the
fastest growing urban areas in the United States and provides water to thousands of farms and ranches.
However, over the past century, growth in human population and the agricultural and urban
development that accompanies it has put enormous stress on the region. ... Show more content on

Much of this is hidden water. For example, it takes 24 gallons of water to make one pound of plastic.
Some are more careful with water use and impacts than others. As more companies begin to look for
ways to reduce their water use, new science and methods are needed to drive policy changes that will
do the most good for water sources.
Success Story: Nature Conservancy scientists are helping pioneer new science that can track hidden
water in a company s supply chain and developing guidelines to reduce water use.
CITIES WATER USE AND IMPACTS
Stormwater carries pollution from cities into rivers and lakes, yet most cities do not take sufficient
measures to prevent run off. According to the EPA, 40 percent of US rivers and lakes surveyed do not
meet water quality standards. Urban runoff is one of the key culprits.
Water quality isn t the only issue. Leaky, aging pipes waste 7 billion gallons of clean drinking water
each day in the United States alone. And most cities do not take emergency measures until drought is
severe.
Success Story: The Nature Conservancy is launching new projects to help cities use less water and
reduce run off. One exciting example is a project in which students in our LEAF program built a rain

Gravimetric Analysis of a Soluble Sulfate
Abstract Gravimetric analysis describes the methods for finding the chemical constituent of analyte in
a solution through analytical chemistry. This method uses the mass of solid SO42 , with an unknown
quantity and quality, to qualitatively determine the makeup of the solid SO3 . Two separate
experiments with the initial compounds of BaCl2 and SO42 were put into solution to allow for the
BaSO4 precipitate to form. Through filtration and ignition of precipitate containing ashless papers, the
solid masses of BaSO4 were attained. With a gravimetric factor of 1:1, sample 1 resulted in the
formation of 0.5874g BaSO4 from 0.4004g of SO42 , while sample 2 resulted in the formation of

4 mL of 6M HCl. Two samples of the BaCl2.2H2O weighing 1.51g each were placed into separate

roughly 5 mL to later test completeness of precipitation of the sulfate ion. The newly added mixtures
were heated for 3 minutes and then were allowed to cool and settle for 10 minutes. The remaining 5
mL of BaCl2.2H2O solution was added to their respective unknown solutions to ensure precipitation
completeness of sulfate ions. Upon completeness, the two solutions were heated for 90 minutes at near
boiling temperatures. After the 90 minutes, the solutions were removed from the heat, cooled, covered

The Influence Of Dragons On East Asian Culture
Dragons are prevalent in myths all across the world. Eastern countries in particular hold dragons in the
highest regard in their cultures. The dragons of East Asian legend have sweeping powers. They
breathe clouds, move the seasons, and control the waters of rivers, lakes, and seas. They are linked
with yang, the masculine principle of heat, light, and action, and opposed to yin, the feminine
principle of coolness, darkness, and repose. Dragons have been part of East Asian culture for more
than 4,000 years. In the religious traditions of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, they have been
honored as sources of power and bringers of rain. (amnh.org)
Dragons hold more significance in China than nearly anywhere else in the world. They are usually
depicted as brightly colored snakes with legs that, in legend, can be as small as a garden snake or large
enough to connect heaven and earth. These dragons are connected to divine and auspicious powers
that typically control disasters related to water, such as floods or hurricanes. These powers make
dragons a symbol of strength and power among the Chinese people, enough so that ... Show more

symbol of treachery, danger, and the unknown in Europe. Unlike in Asia however, dragons were never
as completely imbedded in the culture and minds of the people. Tolkien s works, particularly the
Hobbit, brought focus back onto a legend that was beginning to fade. Now, modernly, dragons have
become a staple of any work of fantasy. They are depicted on television shows for children and for

How Is Lighting Used In Apocalypse Now
Apocalypse Now is a work of art, that encaptures the horrific and gruesome tone of the Vietnam War.
My first impression of the film led me to categorize it as a war film or dramatization. It felt like a
thriller that went above and beyond the typical formula. Coppola skillfully uses the elements of light
and shadows, color, and music in Apocalypse Now to visually portray the psychological damaging
effects of war.
O Donnell (p 19) points out that lighting is a key segment in the film, particularly shown by fogs and
shadows. The film is primarily concerned with the subject of war and the faint experience that the
officers got from it. It was portrayed in a very dull manner. As it begins, the lights are slowly raised.
Willard starts his vessel ride through the night. However, as the journey continues, the movie gets
gloomy, as the shadows increase and the light darkens. The movie s lighting paints a picture of the
risks of the conflict in the wilderness. The vessel, fittingly named Erebus (the dim locale of ... Show

The opening grouping blurs into The End, an environmental melody by the Doors that sounds as
colorful as the Vietnamese wilderness looks Apocalypse Now (1979). With this spooky, cranky tune as
his background, Captain Willard tumbles into a descending path that proceeds all through the film.
Promptly, the music connects picture to place and time: with its furious rhythms, the tune sets us up
for the journey that begins. Music from the Doors shows up again close to the end of the film when
Willard rises out of the stream and shots of Kurtz s butcher are intertwined with shots of the caribou
butcher. The homicide scene is the most hallucinatory of the film because of the mix of the Doors
rock, cinematographer Storaro s dreamlike lighting plan, and the forward and backward cuts in the

Effects Of Capital Punishment In The Hanging
An eye for an eye, a leg for a leg, and a life for a life? This form of punishment has been traditional
for centuries and still to this day. A life for a life is now sugarcoated with the name Capital
Punishment . Capital punishment is a legal punishment by death for committing a crime. It was
created in hopes that people would fear to commit a crime. Besides its intention, having capital
punishment has actually done the opposite. Statistics show that is not exactly the case. States with the
death penalty have higher murder rates than those who don t therefore, their system is flawed. Not
only that but, capital punishment actually costs more money than caring for prisoners. According to
Death Penalty Information Center Cases without the death penalty cost $740,000, while cases where
the death penalty is sought cost $1.26 million. Maintaining each death row prisoner costs taxpayers
$90,000 more per year than a prisoner in general population. More money is being wasted killing
people than sending them to jail for life. Then there s the psychological effect it leaves. The short story
The Hanging displays the detrimental effects of capital punishment. Capital punishment is inhumane.
The death penalty is a cruel and barbaric form of punishment that takes away the compassion and
mercy from humans. This is shown throughout the story. In The Hanging is said We were waiting

The Example Of Linguistic Translation And Interpretation
Linguistic Translation and Interpretation How people say things is truly important. An example of this
that is common used is; Let s eat grandma, and Let s eat, grandma. The implications of both these
sentences are very different, the first one you re eating grandma for dinner. The second is an invitation
for grandma to join the family for dinner. Linguistic translation and interpretation is a common
problem throughout history and in modern times as well. Language has negatively affected history and
as well as the present. In comparison though, language has encouraged positive human interaction
throughout and in modern times as well. Everything from communications between counties and
world leaders, to looking for a bathroom in another country has been affected by language and our
understand of that language. Language has existed since humans started being in groups, we needed a
way to communicate so language was developed. Over time language became more refined, but
different areas had different ways of communicating. When numerous groups of humans started
interacted with other groups, communication problems started. A good example of this happened when
the Europeans first came to America, and met the Natives. Missionaries started spreading the word of
God and the Bible to the natives where ever they could find them. When these missionaries went to
the Alaskan/Yukon area they met the Natives, or Inuits, and wanted to teach them about God. They

ESTIMATION OF GROWTH RATES
The value of a firm is ultimately determined not by current cash flows but by expected future cash
flows. The estimation of growth rates in earnings and cash flows is therefore central to doing a
reasonable valuation. Growth rates can be obtained in many ways: they can be based upon past
growth; drawn from estimates made by other analysts who follow the firm; or related to the firm s
fundamentals. Since each of these approaches yields some valuable information, it makes sense to
blend them to arrive at one composite growth rate to use in the valuation. This chapter examines
different approaches to estimating future growth, and discusses the determinants of growth.

Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay
In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society has been culturally
brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key elements of critical thinking to help us
understand the English language and avoid the manipulation of language: definition, questions,
simplicity of words, metaphors, reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s
first principle is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do not
have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always have a bias. It is our
job to spot that bias and question who wrote the definition, why, and for what purpose. The word
organic is seen quiet frequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill during World
War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small words will be able to understand
how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must
realize how much metaphors are used in the english language. Not only are metaphors used so
commonly, they also greatly influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on
metaphors. Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is a
tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and understand the
knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other things, often by a metaphor
Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the confusing of words with things. It is with reification,
that we can manipulate words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution

The Hungry King George Chapter Summary
The story, The Hungry, Hungry King George represents a brief summary of the events that led up to
the American Revolutionary War. After the Seven Years Was (also known as the French and Indian
War) King George III needed a significant amount of money as he was in debt. This idea is depicted in
the story as his ongoing hunger , or need to pay this debt, that cannot be satisfied. Throughout the
story, the phrase But, he was still hungry is continuously repeated to demonstrate the amount of taxes
and restraints that were placed on the colonist under the rule of King George III. This can also be
discerned from the illustrations in the book. There are two major aspects that signify this: the
increasing amount of King George s gold and his expanding waistline. King George s weight ... Show

For example, the Boston Massacre, where five colonists were killed by British soldiers after the
colonist started throwing snowballs at the soldiers, was left out (Holguin). In addition, the battles of
the war, such as the Battle of Concord or the critical Battle of Saratoga, were not included, but can be
surmised, to keep the story concise and to hold the attention of the younger readers (Holguin).
Although it can be inferred, The Hungry, Hungry King George did not directly identify how the
colonist retaliated, through boycotts and other events, against the King and the British Parliament
before the war occurred. One example of this is displayed through the Colonist s Boston Tea Party
where they dressed up as Native Americans and dumped 18 thousand pounds of Tea into the Boston
Harbor (Independence Hall Association). It is also important to note that this story can be a highly
subjective view as it is from the perspective of the colonist only and excludes other major viewpoints
of the war/(altercations between the colonies and the

Mahatma Gandhi Was The Father Of The Independence Movement
Mohandas Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence movement. When Gandhi was
23 years old, he left his family behind and went to South Africa, arriving in British governed Natal in
May 1893. Gandhi arrived there and was hoping to earn a little bit of money and to learn more about
law; instead, he went from a very quiet and shy man to a resilient and potent leader against
discrimination. This all started when he took a business trip after he arrived in South Africa. He
boarded the first train of his journey at the Pietermartizburg station, railroad officials told Gandhi that
he needed to transfer to the third class passenger car. Even though he was holding first class passenger
tickets and refused to move, a policeman came and threw him off the train. He also faced other
challenges on his trip. He found out that this is a common problem with the Indian community. After
his experience, he decided to not let these injustices continue, and he was going to fight to change
these discriminatory practices. Gandhi spent the next twenty years fight for Indian right in South
Africa. During the first three years, Gandhi learned more about Indian grievances, studied the law,
wrote letters to officials, and organized petitions. On May 22, 1894, Gandhi established the Natal
Indian Congress (NIC). Although the NIC began as an organization for wealthy Indians, Gandhi
worked diligently to expand its membership to all classes and castes. Gandhi became well known for

Minorities
The majority of the 300+ million people currently living in the U.S. are the White race; this is the case
in 49 of the fifty states, with the exception of Hawaii. White race includes both Hispanic Americans
and Non Hispanic Americans. The Hispanic Americans hold the highest portion of the population in
the Midwest of the United States, while the Non Hispanics make about 79 percent of our population.
The common ancestries are from Europe and the Middle East. They came to North America and
homesteaded here learning from the natives. After time, more of Europe sailed over and the population
grew. The White American has been the most promenade race in the United States since Columbus

I believe that laws have been used greatly to reinforce discrimination throughout the years by this I
imply that people are being judged and denied the opportunity of acquiring respect and chances of
achieving their goals because certain laws either intentionally or not are preventing them from doing
so. One example can be how the society views weight as well as personal appearance as
characteristics which an individual can control, here we go back to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which
does not prevent any employer from actually judging and discrimination another employee or
applicant of the job based upon their appearance or weight. Another example against a race, most
people belonging to the African or Hispano origin struggle to actually be hired at a variety of
workplaces this is mainly because there is a very distinct immigration law just like Arizona s new law
which prohibits several individuals from being hired for a number of reasons, different papers requires
which act as an excuse to prevent these people form actually getting a good work or position these
laws were directly intended to Africans and Hispanic illegally immigrated people.
Although many laws have been implemented in the wrong way and have been either unintentionally
or intentionally reinforcing discrimination, they have also been used to eliminate it. There are many
laws nowadays especially those which are implemented at work which prevent any workplace
discrimination or workforce

The Pythagorean Theorem Was Discovered And First Proven By...
Background:
The Pythagorean Theorem was discovered and first proven by the Greek mathematician, Pythagoras.
The Pythagorean Theorem states that the sum of the squares of the two legs of a right triangle equals
the square of the hypotenuse of the triangle. In simpler words, when looking at the right triangle
below, a²+b²=c². This major discovery in the history of mathematics lead to the accomplishments of
many other basic things we do in life. The Pythagorean Theorem does not just stop at the famous
equation of a²+b²=c², but it has many other aspects. Whole numbers that can fit into this theorem are
commonly referred to as Pythagorean Triples. The Pythagorean Theorem includes numerous amounts
of poofs, from the basic proof to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the concept of the Pythagorean Triples was discovered, mathematicians were eager to validate
the concept. Euclid created a widely accepted formula in deriving a Pythagorean Triple, which can be
proved with the help of the unit circle and algebra.
Euclid s Formula and its Proof
Euclid s formula for a Pythagorean triple is: a = 2mn, b = m^2 n^2, c = m^2 + n^2
The variables: m and n: stand for positive, rational integers. It is important to remember that m has to
be greater than n, otherwise the statement valuing variable b on a Pythagorean triangle would be false
because b cannot
This can be understood in terms of the rational points on the unit circle. A unit circle is a circle with
the radius of 1.
We can draw a right triangle: a and b are the legs c is the hypotenuse
In the next part, we must use the trigonometric identity of sin2+cos2=1. For representational purposes,
we must look towards the following diagram for how the triangle would be represented in this proof.
The next step in formulating this next equation would require us to find the sine and cosine of
triangleABC. The sine formula is opposite/hypotenuse, which would equate to a/c. Additionally, the
formula for cosine is adjacent/hypotenuse, equating to b/c. Knowing the trigonometric identity, we can
derive the new eqution:
For the next step, we will need to know the equation of a [unit] circle: x2 + y2 = 1
We know that

Albert Bandura Bobo Doll Theory
Though out this paper we will be discussing the Bobo doll experiment that was conducted by Albert
Bandura in 1961 at Stanford University. We will touch on the history and theory of the Bobo doll
experiment. We will discuss how human behavior and the mental process was used, and how nature
versus nurture influences this study. We will discuss the meaning of social observational learning and
if and how it was used during this research experiment. This research was unethical, not only in my
opinion, but based off the American Psychological Association Code of Ethic, we will discuss more of
the ethical boundaries that were broken, later on.
I selected to research Bandura s Bobo Doll experiment. This experiment, based off of social learning
and was conducted by Canadian Psychologist Albert Bandura in 1961. According to Salem Press
Encyclopedia Of Health, the Bobo doll experiment was designed to investigate the role of
observational learning in social behavior; specifically, the role of observation of aggressive behavior
toward an inanimate object in children s subsequent behavior in the absence of the adult model.
(Dillon 2017) Bandura completed this experiment by testing 82 children, ranging from ages three six
years old from the nursery at Stanford University.
The Bobo Doll was an inflatable toy, that resembles the average size of a young child. The doll, was
weighted on the bottom, holding it in an upright position, so that when knocked over it would return to

To Tell Tale Heart Literary Devices
In To Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe many different ideas are challenged to the deepest extend.
This short story is a horror story, in the first person perspective, and based on the behavior of paranoia,
guilt and murder. Most of Poe s short stories are deep and dark just as this one is but ultimately have a
background to the a plot. The author in the story finds himself fighting between the power of evil and
pride. He or she fulfills that burden by committing an act that is immoral for most of humanity. That
act was the murder of an old man. The narrator defines the line between insanity and pride with that
gruesome murder, and throughout the short story Poe uses many literary devices to explain how
significant things are in the story. When the story continues does the author free himself or still
burdened by the so called evil ? The evil that is being referred to has to do with the idea of someone
watching you at all times. The old man represents that higher power, and the fact the narrator is
overwhelmed by not being able to beat that higher power results in a murder. Does that make the
narrator insane or moral? The prolonged sentences at the beginning of the story reflect the craziness
because of the excessive use of hyphens. In the beginning of the story the murderer is denying the fact
of insanity, why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not
dulled them. ... How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how

Accounting Admission Essay Sample
For me accounting is personal. As an immigrant, life has seldom been easy. It has been marked by
continuous sacrifice, unfamiliar settings, and unnerving trials. From an early age I witnessed my
parents painstakingly keep track of their income and expenses in order to make ends meet. Such trying
moments were the early signs of my inclination towards accounting. In essence, these painful
experiences stirred something within me, something that culminated into a passion. After exposure to
numerous accountants and academic courses, I was firmly convinced accounting was my calling. In
pursuing my calling, I attended Miami Dade Honors College and earned an Associate of Arts Degree
in Accounting. Afterwards, I transferred to Florida International University, where I hope to acquire
my Bachelor of Accounting in April 2018. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Legally Blonde As A Hero
If I were offered a role for a hero or villain in any movie, I would choose to play Elle Woods in
Legally Blonde. Although confusing at first, the finer points of development and power that emanate
from this character are all values that I hold dear to my heart. As an unconventional character she
radiates principle, conviction, and autonomy all while upholding her traditionally feminine personality
traits and never falling into the stereotypical qualities that are pushed on her.
At the beginning of the movie, Elle is a ditzy but quick witted sorority girl who goes on a mission to
get her ex back by following him to Harvard Law School. At first, she s not taken seriously by anyone
her parents, her ex, her peers, and her professors but, after

Maximal Oxygen Uptake And Vo2max Is The Highest Rate At...
Maximal oxygen uptake or Vo2max is the highest rate at which the oxygen can be taken up and
utilized by the body during severe exercise (Bassett Howley, 2000). Vo2max is wide ly used both in
sports and clinical practice and its measurement allows us to assess cardi orespiratory fitness, one of
the most powerful markers of health (Mayorga Vega, Aguilar Soto Viciana 2015; Bruce, Kusumi
Hosmer 1973). Vo2max also provides essential di agnostic and prognostic information for clinical
populations, such as patients with heart failure (Sartor, Vernillo, de Morree, et al., 2013). The most
precise method for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption is the direct measurement which
is considered the gold standard (Noonan Dean, 2000). However, the use of this method is limited in
several settings such as in sports clubs, schools, or in large scale research studies (Pescatello American
College of Sports Medicine, 2014) because it requires appropriate and expensive equipment,
supervision by trained personnel and a max imal level of exertion which cannot be achieved by all the
individuals and especially those who may be limited by pain, fatigue, abnormal gait, impaired balance
or those with cardio vascular problems(Evans, Ferrar, Smith, et al., 2015). As a consequence, many
indirect tests have been developed for use in sports, clinical and home settings but there are sundry fac
tors which must be considered when we select one of them. Such factors are the population that we

Single-Sex Education Policy Analysis
In today s society the word gender has once again regained its popularity among the media. A single
gender class or school is one that contains learners of a single sex as opposed to coeducational classes
or schools. It is possible to have a coeducational school with single gender classes. The percentage of
coeducational classes and schools is far more dominant than that of single gender classes and schools
in the nation. While it is clear that the preference among the nation is coeducational schools there have
been numerous schools that are on the raise to establish single gender schools especially after 2006
when a few restrictions on Title IX have been lifted. Title IX permits for single sex schools but have a
small exception for single gender classrooms within coeducational school. The exceptions must be
met with appropriate justifications. The 2006 loosen restrictions must not ... Show more content on

  • 2. Debussy s Portfoliographie-Personal Narrative Shoving the door open with my hip, I enter the dingy practice room, my hands full of books and school supplies. It takes me two strides to walk from the door to the mahogany piano up against the far wall, where it sits exactly as I left it last night. I drop my things on the floor, pull the small bench out from beneath the piano and sit upon it, making myself as comfortable as possible on the worn cushions. Debussy s Reverie erupts from my fingers without even thinking twice. The old piano keys don t shy away from my touch; in fact, they almost seem to quiver with delight at every note I play. Of course, playing one piano alone for an entire year may have that effect. My music professor gave me special permission to have this piano for my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why d you take my scarf, Tum? I shake my head at the use of his pet name for me. I m cold. The temperature in the practice rooms always dips below room temperature, and Derik s wardrobe choices, which always includes a jacket or scarf, help in such times. Autumn, you re always cold. Even if you lived in Africa, you d still be cold. Derik s comment makes me laugh, but the door to the practice room inching open stops it in my throat. Derik notices me eyeing the door and glances at it. What? What did you see? I don t know. I shake my head, rubbing my eyes. I thought I saw someone opening the door. Derik gets off of the piano bench and creeps over to the doorway. He grabs the edge of the door and opens it slowly. A hand suddenly reaches out and grabs Derik by the wrist. He starts and I almost scream, but I realize that I recognize those perfectly French manicured nails. It takes me two seconds to walk from the piano to the door and by that time, Brielle has already started dragging Derik down the hall. Autumn! • 3. Hair Styles and Make-up of the Renaissance Hair styles and make up have been a significant part of the culture for centuries. It has been changing with every era, decade or style of art. The difference can be as small as a change of a shape of the eyeliner or it can be a complete change of people s looks. What was considered beautiful in Renaissance was absolutely outdated 100 years after this era. In this essay I will be talking about the hair and make up in Renaissance. It all started in Italy, home of the greatest artists of the time. The first section of my essay will be about Italy and the way people were changing their natural appearances using various products. In the second section I will move to the north of Europe to explore a bit more about this topic and see how much the fashion that was set in Italy has changed. In the third section I will look at what was going on in the Great Britain and compare the Elizabethan hair and make up to the continental style. Italy has always been a cultural capital, at least in the eyes of people who have taught me history and art. Majestic buildings, amazing paintings, impressive statues that is just a fraction of what was created in Italy. Renaissance is a unique era, after the Gothic art strictly controlled by the Christian Church; people are turning their eyes away from the God and the God alone to themselves as well. Leonardo Da Vinci is studying anatomy and people are trying to look their best. Portraits of real people come back after years and years of portraying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. St Thomas Aquinas Research Paper ST. Thomas Aquinas was a philosopher who was born in 1225 and has strongly influenced the academic and theological fields since then. He studied under Alfred the Great when he joined the Dominican order. After he graduated he went on to teach in Bologna, Paris, Rome, Cambridge, and Cologne. Surprisingly he came up from a aristocratic family and was the son of a wealthy banker, the story goes that he decided to join the Dominican order, so his family locked him away for a year trying to persuade him from joining. Thomas Aquinas s most famous work was the Summa Theologica, it is a brief overview of all the questions and answers explained in the vast Summa Contra Gentiles. However his works are not limited to just the Summa Contra ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For years Thomas Aquinas devoted all his time and energy to accomplish the Summa Theologica, but unfortunately he never finished it. The story went that he had a vision while he was sleeping and when he awoke he professed that all of his works were mere straw compare to what he envisioned. One of his best know works is the potentiality and actuality theory, potentiality is the concept that anything has the potential to be in a specific place or do a specific action, but the actuality is the object being moved from its original state to its new state of being. For example, if an spoon was sitting on a table, it has the potential to be moved to the counter, but the actuality part would be me or someone moving that spoon on the counter. What a lot of people don t understand is that he isn t making the argument that the universe had to have some form of actuality to be created because if he did someone else could make the argument that God had to have something actualize him in order to be in ... • 5. Social Justice Promotes Equality Among People Social justice promotes equality among people. Having the opportunity to describe social justice s impact on my own life has challenged me to reflect on the blessings I have been given. Because I have so much for which to be grateful, I have made acts of service a priority. Through community service, I have gained a unique understanding of the importance of social justice and equality for all people. A mentor once said to me, It is much better to be tired and making a difference in the world than to be well rested and doing nothing. Ben was absolutely thrilled to be playing a soccer game. After the game was over, and Ben received countless standing ovations from our peers. It was then that he turned to me and said he finally felt like he fit in at our high school. Ben had an opportunity to shine on the soccer field, which allowed me to realize how essential it is to enjoy the little things in life and how profound an impact one person can make in someone else s life. • 6. California Is Notorious For Its Wildfires California is notorious for its wildfires. In the last two decades San Diego County has faced some of the most destructive firestorms in state history (Brainard, 2007). Ron Roberts, chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, describes the county s disposition as, We have a very dangerous, unpredictable situation. We have some of the highest temperatures, some of the driest landscape conditions, and some of the most powerful winds all ingredients for a perfect firestorm (Pesce, 2007). In 2003, San Diego County was overwhelmed by firestorms, including the Cedar Fire, and at that time it was the worst in state history. However, in 2007 San Diego was once again devastated by firestorms, but this time more mighty than the preceding (Ekard, Tuck, Jr., Steffen, 2003). San Diego has had its fair share of practice at managing firestorm response actions. The 2003 firestorms proved that there were numerous inefficiencies within the county s emergency response plan, while the 2007 firestorms emergency response revealed the lessons learned from 2003 and improvements implemented were effective. The threat of future firestorms in San Diego County are inevitable due to the continuing drought, Santa Anna winds, climate changes, and human behavior (Pesce, 2007). Having a well constructed Incident Command System (ICS) and the trained personnel to execute its model is the most effective measure to mitigate the degree of life lost and property damage in a disaster incident. • 7. Cost Of Perfectionism Essay Perfection is often treated as a trait that is unattainable, yet we subconsciously strive to be perfect in many aspects of our lives. Working to be successful and high achieving isn t necessarily a bad thing, but it can grow out of hand when perfection is the only thought on our mind. Because of this, it is necessary to find the right balance when dealing with perfectionism. When it comes to achieving our goals, some amount of perfectionism can be very helpful. Thinking like a perfectionist boosts your motivation and spikes the amount of effort put into every activity. The combination of intense motivation and consistent high quality work can make it quite easy to achieve any goals you may set, both in the short term and long term. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Happiness is the key to perfection. Once you are truly happy with who you are and the life you have, that is when I think people have reached perfection. It s a struggle, I won t lie about that, and it involves all three aspects discussed here. Achieving goals, finding happiness, and maintaining self worth all go hand in hand with each other, and it is difficult to balance one aspect with perfectionism without having the other two. They are all linked, and are all very important. But when it comes down to it, which will last a lifetime: the 100% on the paper you wrote as a teenager, or the way you can wholeheartedly love and accept yourself? Whether that means I get straight A s or not, all that matters is that I feel good about what I m doing, and feel confident in every decision ( My Life in a Nutshell and What I Think it Means np) We as humans often get our priorities mixed up. • 8. Describe The Main Hypothesis Tested In The Study 1. Describe the main hypothesis tested in the study. The main hypothesis being tested within the study was whether or not the fusiform gyrus was a Region of Interest (ROI) that specialised in the perception of the human face. This main hypothesis was confirmed in Part 1 of testing and was thus expanded in Part II and III, in which they eliminated alternative hypothesis. 2. Explain why this new ROI technique is important for fMRI research. The Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a functional neuroimaging procedure that used MRI technology to measure our brains activity through blood flow changes and our voxels. In past experiments the researcher would have been required to scan images of the entire brain for each comparison, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explain one of the alternative accounts of the function of the FFA and how the current study is able to refute (prove wrong) this account. Imaging studies in the past have reported that the region of the fusiform gyrus is more active during face recognition than object viewing, during face matching than location matching and during viewing normal faces other than scrambled faces or textures. This research was a great beginning, but it does not establish that this FFA is specifically involved in face recognition, as there is a range of alternative interpretations of what can activate our brains. These alternative interpretations include low level feature extraction, visual attention that is greater in faces and recognition of basic items and recognition of human objects. To test the first hypothesis the researcher ran an initial test to determine that the Region of Interest was the fusiform gyrus. Following this he then measured the activity in this specific region to subjects using four comparison tasks. Each of these tasks tested the alternative accounts that were previously listed. Part III tested one of these alternative accounts for faces compared with another human object e.g hands. In these tests the data that was collected displayed higher intensity reactions in the ROI when parts of the face were compared to viewing human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Working across the globe, WWF supports responsible water use and infrastructure. Sometimes that work involves numerous partners across country borders as demonstrated by our work on the Rio Grande. This river, also known as the Rio Bravo, serves as part of the border between the United States and Mexico. Located in the Chihuahuan Desert, this river provides water to some of the fastest growing urban areas in the United States and provides water to thousands of farms and ranches. As more companies begin to look for ways to reduce their water use, new science and methods are needed to drive policy changes that will do the most good for water sources. Success Story: Nature Conservancy scientists are helping pioneer new science that can track hidden water in a company s supply chain and developing guidelines to reduce water use. CITIES WATER USE AND IMPACTS Stormwater carries pollution from cities into rivers and lakes, yet most cities do not take sufficient measures to prevent run off. According to the EPA, 40 percent of US rivers and lakes surveyed do not meet water quality standards. Urban runoff is one of the key culprits. Water quality isn t the only issue. Leaky, aging pipes waste 7 billion gallons of clean drinking water each day in the United States alone. And most cities do not take emergency measures until drought is severe. This method uses the mass of solid SO42 , with an unknown quantity and quality, to qualitatively determine the makeup of the solid SO3 . Two separate experiments with the initial compounds of BaCl2 and SO42 were put into solution to allow for the BaSO4 precipitate to form. Through filtration and ignition of precipitate containing ashless papers, the solid masses of BaSO4 were attained. With a gravimetric factor of 1:1, sample 1 resulted in the formation of 0.5874g BaSO4 from 0.4004g of SO42 , while sample 2 resulted in the formation of 0.4073g BaSO4 from 0.3985g of SO42 . Two samples of the BaCl2.2H2O weighing 1.51g each were placed into separate 250 mL beakers and dissolved using 100 mL of DI water. 95 mL of each of the BaCl2.2H2O solutions were added to the earlier mentioned 400 mL beakers containing the unknown #8 solutions, leaving roughly 5 mL to later test completeness of precipitation of the sulfate ion. The newly added mixtures were heated for 3 minutes and then were allowed to cool and settle for 10 minutes. The remaining 5 mL of BaCl2.2H2O solution was added to their respective unknown solutions to ensure precipitation completeness of sulfate ions. The dragons of East Asian legend have sweeping powers. They breathe clouds, move the seasons, and control the waters of rivers, lakes, and seas. They are linked with yang, the masculine principle of heat, light, and action, and opposed to yin, the feminine principle of coolness, darkness, and repose. Dragons have been part of East Asian culture for more than 4,000 years. In the religious traditions of Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, they have been honored as sources of power and bringers of rain. (amnh.org) Dragons hold more significance in China than nearly anywhere else in the world. They are usually depicted as brightly colored snakes with legs that, in legend, can be as small as a garden snake or large enough to connect heaven and earth. • 14. How Is Lighting Used In Apocalypse Now Apocalypse Now is a work of art, that encaptures the horrific and gruesome tone of the Vietnam War. My first impression of the film led me to categorize it as a war film or dramatization. It felt like a thriller that went above and beyond the typical formula. Coppola skillfully uses the elements of light and shadows, color, and music in Apocalypse Now to visually portray the psychological damaging effects of war. O Donnell (p 19) points out that lighting is a key segment in the film, particularly shown by fogs and shadows. The film is primarily concerned with the subject of war and the faint experience that the officers got from it. It was portrayed in a very dull manner. As it begins, the lights are slowly raised. • 15. Effects Of Capital Punishment In The Hanging An eye for an eye, a leg for a leg, and a life for a life? This form of punishment has been traditional for centuries and still to this day. A life for a life is now sugarcoated with the name Capital Punishment . Capital punishment is a legal punishment by death for committing a crime. It was created in hopes that people would fear to commit a crime. Besides its intention, having capital punishment has actually done the opposite. Statistics show that is not exactly the case. States with the death penalty have higher murder rates than those who don t therefore, their system is flawed. Not only that but, capital punishment actually costs more money than caring for prisoners. According to Death Penalty Information Center Cases without the death penalty cost $740,000, while cases where the death penalty is sought cost $1.26 million. Maintaining each death row prisoner costs taxpayers $90,000 more per year than a prisoner in general population. More money is being wasted killing people than sending them to jail for life. Then there s the psychological effect it leaves. The short story The Hanging displays the detrimental effects of capital punishment. Capital punishment is inhumane. The death penalty is a cruel and barbaric form of punishment that takes away the compassion and mercy from humans. This is shown throughout the story. An example of this that is common used is; Let s eat grandma, and Let s eat, grandma. The implications of both these sentences are very different, the first one you re eating grandma for dinner. The second is an invitation for grandma to join the family for dinner. Linguistic translation and interpretation is a common problem throughout history and in modern times as well. Over time language became more refined, but different areas had different ways of communicating. When numerous groups of humans started interacted with other groups, communication problems started. A good example of this happened when the Europeans first came to America, and met the Natives. The estimation of growth rates in earnings and cash flows is therefore central to doing a reasonable valuation. Growth rates can be obtained in many ways: they can be based upon past growth; drawn from estimates made by other analysts who follow the firm; or related to the firm s fundamentals. Since each of these approaches yields some valuable information, it makes sense to blend them to arrive at one composite growth rate to use in the valuation. • 20. Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society has been culturally brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key elements of critical thinking to help us understand the English language and avoid the manipulation of language: definition, questions, simplicity of words, metaphors, reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s first principle is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do not have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always have a bias. It is our job to spot that bias and question who wrote the definition, why, and for what purpose. The word organic is seen quiet frequently ... Students who can understand the meanings of these small words will be able to understand how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must realize how much metaphors are used in the english language. Not only are metaphors used so commonly, they also greatly influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on metaphors. Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is a tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and understand the knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other things, often by a metaphor Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the confusing of words with things. It is with reification, that we can manipulate words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution make a concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions of people. Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly influential to how we perceive a concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like genres. They share certain qualities that are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could not write about history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This idea is depicted in the story as his ongoing hunger , or need to pay this debt, that cannot be satisfied. Throughout the story, the phrase But, he was still hungry is continuously repeated to demonstrate the amount of taxes and restraints that were placed on the colonist under the rule of King George III. • 23. Mahatma Gandhi Was The Father Of The Independence Movement Mohandas Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence movement. When Gandhi was 23 years old, he left his family behind and went to South Africa, arriving in British governed Natal in May 1893. Gandhi arrived there and was hoping to earn a little bit of money and to learn more about law; instead, he went from a very quiet and shy man to a resilient and potent leader against discrimination. This all started when he took a business trip after he arrived in South Africa. He boarded the first train of his journey at the Pietermartizburg station, railroad officials told Gandhi that he needed to transfer to the third class passenger car. Even though he was holding first class passenger tickets and refused to move, a policeman came and threw him off the train. He also faced other challenges on his trip. He found out that this is a common problem with the Indian community. After his experience, he decided to not let these injustices continue, and he was going to fight to change these discriminatory practices. Gandhi spent the next twenty years fight for Indian right in South Africa. During the first three years, Gandhi learned more about Indian grievances, studied the law, wrote letters to officials, and organized petitions. On May 22, 1894, Gandhi established the Natal Indian Congress (NIC). Although the NIC began as an organization for wealthy Indians, Gandhi worked diligently to expand its membership to all classes and castes. Gandhi became well known for his ... One example can be how the society views weight as well as personal appearance as characteristics which an individual can control, here we go back to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which does not prevent any employer from actually judging and discrimination another employee or applicant of the job based upon their appearance or weight. Another example against a race, most people belonging to the African or Hispano origin struggle to actually be hired at a variety of workplaces this is mainly because there is a very distinct immigration law just like Arizona s new law which prohibits several individuals from being hired for a number of reasons, different papers requires which act as an excuse to prevent these people form actually getting a good work or position these laws were directly intended to Africans and Hispanic illegally immigrated people. Euclid created a widely accepted formula in deriving a Pythagorean Triple, which can be proved with the help of the unit circle and algebra. Euclid s Formula and its Proof Euclid s formula for a Pythagorean triple is: a = 2mn, b = m^2 n^2, c = m^2 + n^2 The variables: m and n: stand for positive, rational integers. It is important to remember that m has to be greater than n, otherwise the statement valuing variable b on a Pythagorean triangle would be false because b cannot This can be understood in terms of the rational points on the unit circle. A unit circle is a circle with the radius of 1. We can draw a right triangle: a and b are the legs c is the hypotenuse In the next part, we must use the trigonometric identity of sin2+cos2=1. For representational purposes, we must look towards the following diagram for how the triangle would be represented in this proof. The next step in formulating this next equation would require us to find the sine and cosine of triangleABC. The sine formula is opposite/hypotenuse, which would equate to a/c. Additionally, the formula for cosine is adjacent/hypotenuse, equating to b/c. Knowing the trigonometric identity, we can derive the new eqution: For the next step, we will need to know the equation of a [unit] circle: x2 + y2 = 1 We know that ... This short story is a horror story, in the first person perspective, and based on the behavior of paranoia, guilt and murder. Most of Poe s short stories are deep and dark just as this one is but ultimately have a background to the a plot. The author in the story finds himself fighting between the power of evil and pride. He or she fulfills that burden by committing an act that is immoral for most of humanity. That act was the murder of an old man. The narrator defines the line between insanity and pride with that gruesome murder, and throughout the short story Poe uses many literary devices to explain how significant things are in the story. When the story continues does the author free himself or still burdened by the so called evil ? The evil that is being referred to has to do with the idea of someone watching you at all times. The old man represents that higher power, and the fact the narrator is overwhelmed by not being able to beat that higher power results in a murder. Does that make the narrator insane or moral? Maximal oxygen uptake or Vo2max is the highest rate at which the oxygen can be taken up and utilized by the body during severe exercise (Bassett Howley, 2000). Vo2max is wide ly used both in sports and clinical practice and its measurement allows us to assess cardi orespiratory fitness, one of the most powerful markers of health (Mayorga Vega, Aguilar Soto Viciana 2015; Bruce, Kusumi Hosmer 1973). Vo2max also provides essential di agnostic and prognostic information for clinical populations, such as patients with heart failure (Sartor, Vernillo, de Morree, et al., 2013). The most precise method for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption is the direct measurement which is considered the gold standard (Noonan Dean, 2000). However, the use of this method is limited in several settings such as in sports clubs, schools, or in large scale research studies (Pescatello American College of Sports Medicine, 2014) because it requires appropriate and expensive equipment, supervision by trained personnel and a max imal level of exertion which cannot be achieved by all the individuals and especially those who may be limited by pain, fatigue, abnormal gait, impaired balance or those with cardio vascular problems(Evans, Ferrar, Smith, et al., 2015).
