Analysis Of Gone With The Outsiders
1. When Ponyboy awoke in the church he felt stiff, sore, scared, hungry, and confused. Ponyboy was
also panicky because at first he forgot where he was, and Johnny was not there. Pony tried to convince
himself that what happened last night was a dream, but he could remember every detail of the whole
night.
2. Johnny cared for Pony by buying Pony s favorite book, got supplies for the two of them, bought
bleach to disguise Pony, comforts him, tells him not to smoke too much, and lets him sleep on his
shoulder.
3. The boys changed their hairstyles because they needed to disguise themselves from the police, so it
would be less likely of them being caught. This was hard for them to do because their hair is a part of
who they are, it identifies them as a Greaser.
4. The boys passed time in the church by reading Gone With the Wind out loud, playing cards,
smoking, talking, and watching the sunsets.
5. Johnny feels that Dally is sort of like a hero, like the southern gentle men in Gone With the Wind.
Johnny really loves Dally. Johnny feels this way about Darry because he is cool and calm in scary
situations.
6. The information Dally brought the boys was Cherry became a spy for the Greasers, the Greasers
and the Socs were going to have a big fight, and the policemen were looking for them in Texas
because Dally told them that s where they were.
1. I think Johnny enjoyed reading Gone With the Wind because it is about the Civil War and the fight
between the Socs and Greasers is sort of

Nina Simone Research Paper
Nina Simone was one of the most unique, influential, and gifted singers of her generation. She was
born on February 21, 1933 as Eunice Waymon, in Tryon, North Carolina. Her mother was a preacher
and she started playing piano at an early age, around 3 or 4 at her mother s church, as she was playing
piano at a local recital she caught the eye of an older white woman willing to give her lessons. Nina
went on to studying classical piano for 5 years with the woman, learning the stylings of the classical
greats such as Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, and Brahms. As a child she felt so isolated, spending up to 7
hours a day practicing the piano, and growing up in the south in the segregation era, she felt as she
could not fit in neither with the white or black community, even when surrounded by other children all

After 1 ½ years the money ran out, so she sought out to apply for a musical scholarship, once again
facing racism, not only did she do quite well in her audition, but she had mastered many classical
songs, yet still was not accepted due to the color of her skin. Out of options, she managed to find a job
playing the piano at a crummy old bar in Atlantic City, where one day her boss mentioned that if she
wanted to keep her job she had to sing, thus Nina Simone is born. Not wanting to disappoint her
mother with the thought that she was playing the devils music she created her stage name which she is
now famously known as. Nina emerged on the professional stage in 1960 at a jazz festival, and
quickly gained recognition with her baritone voice, not only was her voice so unique that it grasped
anyone s attention, but the way she cultivated the new sound of jazz was amazing. Nina had a way
with music, mixing classical piano sounds with jazz, and folk music, she had created her own

Using A Polymer As A Material For Carbon Dioxide
Regev Trigalo

ENG 199 HW#3: Simplified Literature Review on Research Topic
My research involves the synthesizing polyamine starting from readily available building blocks
namely ethylene and carbon monoxide and then using that to capture carbon dioxide, an undesirable
greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming, from industrial processes. Currently, liquid
amines are used industrially and while they are quite effective, they are costly, toxic, are not very
recyclable, and degrade quickly. The novel use of a polymer as a material for this purpose could solve
many of these issues.
I chose three articles to review to get a better understanding of the current work being done in the
field. The first, Absorbent Materials for Carbon Dioxide Capture from Large Anthropogenic Point
Sources by Christopher Jones gives an overview of materials currently being used to capture carbon
dioxide what I am attempting to do with polyamine. The second, Steam Stripping for Regeneration of
Supported Amine Based CO2 Adsorbents, also by Jones, is a communications that discusses
regeneration of the amine once it has been used for carbon dioxide capture. The third by Maschmeyer
entitled The Reductive Amination of Aldehydes and Ketones and the Hydrogenation of Nitriles:
Mechanistic Aspects and Selectivity Control relates to the reaction I am doing (reductive amination of
a polyketone). Furthermore, a review article will be particularly good for my purposes because it will

The Effects of Dynasties
Three main dynasties that affected Chinese heritage, culture, economy and society were the Sui, Tang
and Song dynasties. Each of these dynasties were significant into further building and creating China.
Two out of three succeeded. Sui Dynasty was the second shortest dynasty, lasted only 38 years. The
Tang Dynasty lasted almost 300 years and helped continue to improve China based on the results of
the Sui Dynasty. The Song Dynasty followed after lasting only a few years because there was too
much to do in order to fix the ruins from the downfall of the Tang Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty began in
581 and ended in 618. During the 38 years it lasted there were three different emperors who all made
significant changes. After the tyrannical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Economically the Tang dynasty also implemented an equal distribution system in order to increase
taxes, and production, while ensuring the livelihood of the working families. Under this particular
system the government would distribute similar portions of farmland to all qualifying males until they
reached the retirement age of sixty. Socially, the government was in favor of the people doing a lot to
take care of them and ensure their livelihood so the people remained at peace until religion got
involved which eventually caused the downfall of their dynasty. The Song Dynasty began in 960 and
ended in 1270. During the period it lasted, it didn t mount up to the previous two dynasties. The Sung
rulers of that time encountered more problems than the previous rulers of their dynasties. After the
downfall of the Tang Dynasty rebuilding it was too difficult which made the Song Dynasty non long
lasting. Socially, politically and economically the dynasty was an epic fail. Rebuilding it was too
difficult and the people remained unhappy making the Song Dynasty an unpleasant era. Each of the
three dynasties affected China differently. The Sui Dynasty set it off with their new form of
government and expansion in the skill industry. After the second tyranny emperor stepped down and

Etiquette is important because if people dont have proper etiquette then the disrescpect will hurt and it
will lead to violence. The defintion of etiquette is the practices and forms prescribed by social

conformist precepts extolling such civil virtues as truthfulness, self control and kindness towards one s

They are a kind of norm. What is considered mannerly is highly susceptible to change with time,
geographical location, social stratum, occasion, and other factors. That manners matter is evidenced
by the fact that large books have been written on the subject, advice columns frequently deal with
questions of mannerly behavior, and that schools have existed for the sole purpose of teaching
manners. A lady is a term frequently used for a woman who follows proper manners; the term
gentleman is used as a male counterpart; though these terms are also often used for members of a
particular social class.Manners may include eating in a certain way, thanking people for things, and
apologising for transgressions. Most people judge other based off of their manners. Even if they are
not supposed to they do it anyway. As Margret Walker says Friends and good manners will carry you

continual improvement and is oriented on customers. This approach was developed by such quality
leaders as Philip B. Crosby, W. Edwards Deming, Armand V. Feigenbaum, Kaoru Ishikawa, and
Joseph M. Juran. TQM uses next principles (Westcott 2013):
Customer focused. The customer ultimately determines the level of quality.
Total employee involvement. All employees participate in working toward common goals.
Process centered. A fundamental part of TQM is a focus on process thinking.
Integrated system. Although an organization may consist of many different functional specialties ...

Gilgamesh Motivation
The Epic of Gilgamesh is a poem that addresses the friendship between two main characters named
Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Throughout the story both of the demigods embark on long journeys with
each other to solidify the concepts of friendship, honor, mourning, and mortality. The tale expresses
the values as well as religion within the Mesopotamian culture through the underlying meanings and
composition within the poem. Motivations therefore then can be drawn from the epic in result to its
context and overall cultural influence on the content of the poem. In turn, relation of that motivation

The Scarlet Letter And Arthur Miller s The Crucible
Carter Beaulieu
Mr. Damaso
AP English III, Period 5

Puritanical Deception (1000) Emigrating from the Old World to purify the Church of England, the
Puritan society was one of very strict religious beliefs. Believing in living plainly, the Puritans
denounced those who went against their ways. They even excoriated fellow members of their
community if a sin was bound to ones name. One sin in particular, adultery, was seen as a
contravention to the covenant that the Puritans had established with God. Church leaders believed that
unless the sinners were chastised, God would punish the whole community for a sin of such a
magnitude. Despite having a sought out system of punishment for sinners, the tougher task for these
leaders was to figure out who in fact was a sinner, as some did not confess. Those who did not confess
or who had not been caught would behave hypocritically in order to preserve their reputation and
avoid punishment. In both Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Arthur Miller s The Crucible,
the repercussions of committing adultery are exhibited through characters in two different puritanical
societies. Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Prynne, John Proctor, and Abigail Williams are all victims to
this. Despite living in sincere societies, these characters behave hypocritically in order to hide a
concealed truth, resulting in internal ignominy, until they ultimately confess.
Arthur Dimmesdale shows his guilt and

Supply And Demand Of Supply
Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the
backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is
desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a
certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand
relationship. Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the
amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. The
correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market is known as the
supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand. ... Show more content on

B. The Law of Supply
Like the law of demand, the law of supply demonstrates the quantities that will be sold at a certain
price. But unlike the law of demand, the supply relationship shows an upward slope. This means that
the higher the price, the higher the quantity supplied. Producers supply more at a higher price because
selling a higher quantity at a higher price increases revenue.
economics4.gif
A, B and C are points on the supply curve. Each point on the curve reflects a direct correlation
between quantity supplied (Q) and price (P). At point B, the quantity supplied will be Q2 and the price
will be P2, and so on. (To learn how economic factors are used in currency trading, read Forex
Walkthrough: Economics.)
Time and Supply
Unlike the demand relationship, however, the supply relationship is a factor of time. Time is important
to supply because suppliers must, but cannot always, react quickly to a change in demand or price. So
it is important to try and determine whether a price change that is caused by demand will be temporary
or permanent.
Let s say there s a sudden increase in the demand and price for umbrellas in an unexpected rainy
season; suppliers may simply accommodate demand by using their production equipment more
intensively. If, however, there is a climate change, and the population will need umbrellas year round,
the change in demand and price will be expected to be long term; suppliers will have to change their
equipment and production

The Conflict Between Syria And The Middle Eastern Region...
Geography 142
Life In Syria
Syria is a country located in the Middle Eastern region of the world, and is currently in the stages of
developing. It is located on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea and lies between the neighboring
countries of Jordan, Israel, Iraq, Turkey, and Lebanon. Much of Syria s economy is based on
agriculture, oil, industry and services. All of which are major reasons why Syria could be a developing
country. Syria s population has been steadily increasing since the 1960 s, and today has reached a
population of about 22 million. The majority religion in Syria, like most Middle Eastern countries, is
Islam. Therefore the main language spoken in Syria is Arabic because it is the universal language

above sea level. (e.g. The Euphrates River runs through the east end of the country and was dammed
off in 1973. As a result, water was retained and a reservoir was created. This reservoir was named
Lake Assad and is the largest lake in the country. According to Princeton.edu, only about 28% of all
the land in Syria is arable, 46% of the land is meadows and pastures, and 3% is forests and woodland.
The landscape is mostly arid, so crops like wheat and barley make up two thirds of the agriculture in
the country. Cotton is also a major cash crop grown in Syria and is and has been a big part of their
economy for years. As water is a scarce resource in Syria and other neighboring countries, most of
these crops are grown in the Euphrates river valley. Overall, agriculture contributes to a large portion
of Syria s economy.
Syria is still a developing country in the Middle East. Its economy is based on agriculture and oil. Just
these two pillars in the Syrian economy make up for about one half of their Gross Domestic Product
(GDP). Since the start of the Syrian civil war, Syria s economy has taken a huge hit. The government
has restricted trade between several countries such as the United States, Japan, and Australia. As a
result, Syria has been faced with a major economic decline. These restrictions have reversed the
otherwise growing economy. According to the United Nations (UN), there have been an estimated 143
billion dollars in economic damages as a result of the civil war.

Essay On Should The Government Regulate The First Amendment
Regulate or Not?
Why would not the United States Government regulate the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights?
People in the government, and not in the government have many examples why the government
should not regulate the first amendment. The First Amendment gives us many freedoms. The United
States Government should not regulate the First Amendment.
For example, the United States Government should not regulate the First Amendment because natural
born or naturalized citizens have the right to exercise these freedoms. They decided to wear black
armbands to create a policy that stated that any students wearing an armband would be asked to
remove it, with refusal in suspension (Oyez, 1). Students at that school wore armbands, but some
students got suspended. These students had the right to regulate the First Amendment. If the United

Without our freedoms, we could not promote change and exercise our with the First Amendment.
Lastly, the United States Government should not regulate the First Amendment because the freedoms
promote diversity among citizens. Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion

The Rudd Government
Recent Commonwealth Parliaments have confirmed that the ability of governments to implement their
mandates is more a function of the will of the Parliament than the will of the people.
In recent years, the ability for governments to implement their mandates has shifted from being a
function of the people s will to that of parliament s. A mandate is the authority provided by voters to a
successful political party to pursue its policies in parliament. Governments can justify their dominance
of the lower house by arguing the will of the people is expressed through elections. The government s
electoral victory produces a majoritarian mandate, and gives them the right to implement their
policies. In recent years, minor parties who hold the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, a government s claim to a majoritarian mandate can reduce Australian politics to an electoral
democracy. The opposition might be able to criticise government policy but according to this theory
they have no right to amend, block or delay government legislation. This reduces the role of members
of parliament, pressure groups and the media to simply channel public opinion. Broader participation
in the political process is limited by the government s claim to an all powerful mandate. Furthermore,
in recent parliaments, the will of the government has been frustrated by the parliament. However, it is
because of this fact it can be argued parliament produces better legislation due to poor legislation
being blocked. Australia s two party dominance, reflecting the majority of people s will in the lower
house has been proven effective and the Senate that is designed to act as the house of review is an
effective check on the people s will. Despite this, the review function of the senate is becoming
increasingly a reflection of the will of the parliament and this is contributing to parliament becoming
dysfunctional. The Turnbull government hopes to resolve this through a double dissolution later this

Radiocarbon Dating Accurate
Radiocarbon dating, which is quite often referred to as Carbon 14, or C14, is probably used the most
of all absolute dating techniques. The method is used to date all sorts of artifacts including bones,
cloth, and wood, in addition to plants. For artifacts up to about 50,000 years old, it is one of the most
specific methods of dating available. In the late 1940 s, C 14 was developed by Willard Libby.
Archeologists use this dating method, which is the standard in the scientific industry to this date.
According to the Kelly Long in Why is Radiocarbon Dating Important to Archeology, In 1948,
American chemist Willard Liberty, who worked on the development of the atomic bomb, published
the first set of development in absolute dating in archeology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is an objective method that provides more accurate ages of artifacts by measuring the amount of
C14 present in the artifact and comparing it to an already known reference artifact. According to
Michael Gagne, in Dating in Archeology, Following the death of an organism, any exchange ceases
and the carbon 14, which is radioactive and therefore unstable, slowly begins to disintegrate at a
known rate (half life of 5730 years, ie, after this period only half of the total carbon 14 present at the
time of death remains). The amount of carbon 14 remaining in the material to date is compared to a
reference standard (ratio 14C/total carbon, 12C and 13C) to calculate the time elapsed since its
occurrence. (Gagne, p. 1) This method actually is based on a something that occurs every day on earth
and is the foundation of life. Think about it... all living species on Earth including plants and animals
exchange carbon dioxide with their environment until they die. Marshall Brain in How Carbon 14
Dating Works describes simply how C14 dating works. Simply said, the way the process works is by
measuring the amount of C14 in the artifact, which forms naturally when cosmic rays in the earth s
upper atmosphere strike nitrogen molecules and oxidize to become carbon dioxide. Plants then absorb
and continually replenish carbon dioxide until the plant dies or it passes onto animals that eat the
plants. After the death of the organism, the amount of C14 in the organism or artifact decreases at a
regular pace as decaying occurs. Since C14 has a half life of 5,730 plus or minus 40 years, the object
loses half of its C14 about every 5,700 years. Once the organism dies, it stops taking on new carbon so
the ratio of C12 to C14 is the same for every organism. Therefore, the age of and artifact can be
determined fairly accurately if scientists compare the ratio of C12 to C14 in an artifact and compare it
to the ratio in a

Symbolism Of Redemption In The Orphanage Away By Ibsen
Ibsen uses the orphanage as a symbolism of redemption for the Alving family. Mrs Alving
sarcastically jibes at the Captain and his treatment of his own children, Oswald and Regina, by
building a safe space with absent parents. The irony is emphasised, that Mrs Alving also failed to raise
her son, believing he would be better off without her father, if that meant sacrificing her own time
with Oswald. She moralised that spending the Captain s money on the orphanage would mean Oswald
would gain nothing from his father. The tribute to the Captain eventually burned down, determining
that the deception of man is determined to fall. The symbolism of the orphanage fire flames blaze as
Oswald s illness hits a peak, emphasising that the consequences of Captain Alving s sins continue to
burn. Although Mrs Alving was absent for the majority of Oswald s life, it is an expected social
construct that a child automatically loves his parents, however Oswald examines this cultural notion
by asking his mother: Do you really hang on to that old superstition you, so enlightened in everything
else? His self centred nature becomes apparent as he discloses his mother could finally be useful to
him now that he was ill. The expected role of mother comes to attention as Mrs Alving is faced with
her final dilemma of duty versus tradition at the play s end as he asks his mother to assist with his
suicide. A modern contrast to Ibsen s portrayal of gender is Martin Crimp s masterpiece, Attempts on
Her Life. First staged in 1997 at The Royal Court Theatre, the play gathered critic s attention for
Crimp s unique and original script satirising modern society and the media. The play has since become
an international success translated into over 20 languages. The post dramatic play includes seventeen
mini narratives of characters resembling the name Anne . The play explores the contradictions
throughout society while specifically looking at gender themes. Crimp balances these symmetries
through telling numerous stories using a variety of subtext and motifs, complexity of irony and double
meaning word choice to create an elusive and ambiguous feeling amongst spectators. Crimp uses
social satire to expose the human ideals while

Corporate Social Veil And Limited Liability
I. Introduction
In recent times, there has been an increased incidence among large scale business organizations to
structure their operations through the form of corporate groups, with many domestic and international
subsidiaries, wholly owned or otherwise, with the corporate veil ensuring that each of these enjoy
separate corporate legal personality and limited liability. The existence of these corporate groups ,
with subsidiary companies being heavily controlled by their parent companies, have necessitated
interpretations and applications of existing corporate legal principles to this novel context, even in
case of the basic tenets of corporate law. The circumstances associated with corporate veil piercing,
through detailed consideration of conditions to treating holding and subsidiary companies as one legal
unit, with associated civil liabilities, is also an issue of heated debate.
This report considers the significance and implications of the concepts of corporate legal personality,
corporate veil and limited liability in the setting of corporate groups. Additionally, there is an attempt
to critically explore and evaluate the corporate civil liability of corporate groups, under the
circumstances of statutory corporate veil piercing, with specific examination of the legal principles
applied by courts to justify such an action to protect creditors.

Korsgaard Intentionality
In Morality and the Distinctiveness of Human Action , Korsgaard does not agree with the veneer
theory and proposes that human beings are originally acquisitive, but they become moral beings
through the process of living and growing up under the circumstance of society. In this paper, I will
defend this argument. I will first explain in detail what self government is and why it is the most
important to human morality. Then I address two opposing arguments. The first one challenges the
theory of deepest level of intentionality , and the second one used the example of children to attack the
self government theory. I will point out the weaknesses of these arguments to show the validity of
Korsgaard s theory.
Korsgaard introduces the deepest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They claim that her argument fails to explain the case of children, who are not completely, but only
partially responsible for their behaviours and actions. In this case when children might do wrong and
held not responsible for their action since they are underaged, we could not draw the conclusion that
all human beings have the capacity for self government. However, I do not agree with this view.
Admittingly children do have limited responsibility, and people hold more lenient standard when
judging their behaviours, it does not imply children, as a subgroup of human beings, does not have the
capacity for self government or deepest level of intentionality. For grown ups, the reason why we
believe they have the deepest level of intentionality is because, they have the ability to adopt their
purposes. Adopting their purposes requires human beings to judge the person will need to judge which
purpose is morally justifiable, despite there is a urgent and strong affective state affecting his emotions
and feelings. The ability to judge plays a significant role in the self government process. However, it
should be noted that, such ability is gained through the process of growing under the context of
society, learning what is moral and immoral, acquiring skills of judging rights and wrongs by
observing the society around us and interacting with other human beings. It is trained from the

how Lincoln s style of writing evokes emotion, and rally s the audience. Not only were his words

Descriptive Essay On Romeo Santos

MUL 2380
Romeo Santos In Concert Anthony Santos known artistically as Romeo Santos was born on July 21,
1981. He is from The Bronx, New York. Romeo Santos is a well known singer; record producer,
composer and songwriter. Also known as the king of the Bachata music genre. Before making his two
solo albums he was the singer leader of the band Aventura. He gave a live concert on June 20, 2015, at
the American Airlines Arena located on 601 Biscayne Blvd of his tour vol2 that I was able to assist.
He performed twenty pieces during the concert including some of his most famous songs.
Cancioncitas de amor , Yo tambien , and Eres mia were three different pieces that allowed the
audience to experience different styles of the Bachata genre. Bachata music, as all kind of music tells
a story. In Bachata especially, the songs are mostly romantic. As evidenced, on June 21 I confirmed

As is the case in all Santos shows, he brought an overweight girl onstage, embraced, stole kisses and
simulated (or not) some crotch grabbing (her hand on his). The Propuesta Indecente bed scene, of
course, is widely anticipated. But in between that in between Santos making the guys in the audience
bark and the women meow there s a whole lot of music, beautifully executed. Santos can pare down
the sound for more acoustic minded performances where he s accompanied by virtuoso guitar, the
single, pizzicato melody lines mimicking his piercing voice. There are songs that feel like little films;
stories that make your breath catch, with no need for supporting audiovisual material to distract. There
is, finally, an artist who has managed to mainstream a niche genre by effectively bridging the gap
between elegance and bawdiness with huge musical and entertainment skills. It has taken Santos more
than a decade to reach his current king status. But his staying power is more than

The Representation Of The Speaking Model
The speaking model also addresses the norms of an event, the norms address the shoulds and the
should nots that can occur at a wedding. Although every bride and groom follows not each of these
practices, there are many norms to a wedding held in America. Many norms followed start even
months or years before the ceremony takes place. It all starts with choosing a date. This forms the base
for your entire wedding; it defines what colors to use, what materials to wear, if guests can attend, and
many other factors. Invitations are they sent out to all guests. Prior to the invitations, guests are chosen
wisely to stay within budget. Some brides and grooms will allow their dates to bring a plus one or
their own date, depending on the couple. Normally, there will be a pre written and stamped envelope
with the return address for RSVPs (respond s il vous plait). A card in the envelope will allow you to
choose whether you are attending or declining the invitation, bringing a guest, and what entree you
would like on the day of the wedding. The couple now gets to decide on the little details of their
wedding: where it will be located, the decorations and color scheme, what food will be served, and
who will be on their bridal party. From there on, full wedding planning will be in effect. Wedding
attire is very important to most colors. Men generally wear suits or tuxedos, and the women usually
wear dresses that go with the color scheme. The bride now can pick out what she wants to

Ronald Reagan Ethos
President Reagan in his grief driven, yet inspiring speech Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger
Address to the Nation, he expresses the nation s collective anguish in the wake of the accident. Reagan
s purpose is to praise the lost astronauts for their service and assure to NASA and the rest of America
that, even if these deaths happened, they should continue working towards space explorations for
future generations. He adopts a somber yet reflective tone in order to evoke a sense of a silver lining
in the minds of the American families across the nation. To do so, Ronald Reagan utilizes the three
rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos.
At the start of his speech, Reagan chooses to apologize for the postponement of the annual State ...

He first commemorates the pioneers of space for their service, noting their courage and painstakingly
stating each of their names slowly and reverently. He is giving life to the astronauts, working to show
the audience that these are not just two words on a procter, but courageous trailblazers on a mission to
pursue their dreams of space exploration for America. Reagan is trying to establish their emotions to
bridge this gap from random stranger to fallen hero and draw much needed respect for them in the
wake of this tragedy, and solace for their loved ones. Reagan even addresses the schoolchildren
watching their teacher die upon launch and states that sometimes painful things like this happen (6).
Reagan knows that the children are going to be the future astronauts and shuttle engineers, so he is
essentially trying to reassure them that, though this is what can happen to pioneers, this is the only
way progress can be made. If he doesn t do this, people start to question the necessity for continuing in
this race for space and ultimately doubt the need to fund NASA. Reagan chooses to address these

In the first case, Dr. William seems comfortable and ends up prescribing the best medical prescription
for Johnny. This is attributable to the fact that he shares an interest about horses with Becki, who is
Johnny s mother. In addition to the family being Caucasian, they also seem to have a good insurance,
which makes the doctor believe that they will be able to afford effective treatment for their child. This
makes him prescribe CPAP for Johnny s obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a nonsurgical treatment for
sleep apnea, which will require up to a month of follow up.
However, Dr. William seems to make an assumption about the origin of the Waleed family, who are
Sudanese, but he thinks they are African American. This caused him to overlook the stress, which the
Waleeds may have gone through in Sudan before migrating to the US, thereby turning them away
because they do not have insurance. This behavior will have a far reaching ultimate health outcome on
the Waleed s child. In addition, he seemed to not totally understand the culture of Vietnamese, which
made him totally do the contrary of the Phan s family expectations (Core Concepts in Cultural

Social Reformer And A Cultural Relativist
To be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativist
By Jaimie Ianke
Ethics
PHL 104 475
Is it possible to be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativist? A Cultural Relativist is one who see
morality as a product of that culture. That something is morally right if one s culture approves of it.
This would mean that there are no guidelines on right and wrong. We cannot know any absolute right
or wrong, per Rachels. Not judging another s society on what is right and wrong, would be one simple
way to explain the Cultural Relativist perspective.
Cultural Relativism works well if we were to look at another culture with the following conditions:
The society as a whole would be considered archaic

These movements would have to work differently than any other type of movements within history.
This would be the way to not just be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativism at the same time.
Martin Luther King Jr sought out to change society for the better and to rid of slavery. There is a way
this can be done within the confinements demanded by Cultural Relativism. This being as society has
not been living up to its own ideas. This makes the reformer be seen as to be doing what is for the
better of society. Where the ideas of society have the quality by we conclude any motion as
worthwhile. Then, the idea of social reform in this very restricted way would make sense.
We should not change any part of any culture or society unless it is for the better. Making or wanting
to make any type of change for personal gain of any sorts would not be the correct way of doing
anything unless it is for the good of society. This would be a very good example of the best symbiotic
relationship there actually could be. But without a Cultural Relativist and their perspective on society
we would not have social

The Smith Roland Project will be underway soon and we need to have a plan for communication
differences and barriers for our teams in South Carolina, Texas, and Portland. We need to be sure that
communications are sent and received while keeping our communication differences in mind.
As the project manager for this project, here is my plan to address communication barriers for our
team and to keep communication flowing in a positive way.
PHYSICAL
The first and most obvious barrier to effective communication is the physical barrier. With our team
split into three different locations, the physical distance can lead to miscommunication.
To overcome this barrier, I plan to have frequent face to face ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Meeting will be scheduled with these barriers in mind.
SEMANTICS
The second communication barrier is semantics, which is words, jargon, phrases and acronyms used at
the various locations that may not be widely known outside of a specific area or group of people.
To overcome this barrier, I ve asked the team leaders at each location to submit to me any common
acronyms used at their location along with an explanation and definition. These acronyms and
definitions will be logged and sent out to all team members for reference.
I will ask that all team members keep our communication differences in mind when speaking and as
much as possible to refrain from using local jargon or catch phrases. Additionally I will make sure to
communicate to all team members that they should feel comfortable asking questions when an
acronym or phrase is not clear.
PERSONAL
The third barrier to communication is personal barriers. Personal communication barriers are varied
and can include individual styles of sending and receiving messages, stereotypes, personality
differences, education and background differences,

of choosing in advance their children s traits, may be the ones that are perfectionist (565). Steinbock
states that parents that go to such great lengths to control their future child s abilities would be guilty
of parental tyranny (565). Steinbock declares that even though the parent would be able to choose the

Steinbock adds an example, by cloning even if you choose all of the genome in your child it is not fact

The role of Jocasta in Oedipus the King is crucial....
The role of Jocasta in Oedipus the King is crucial. Jocasta sees the reality of the situation before
Oedipus and the chorus do. The prophecies made themselves known long ago, and Jocasta believed
that they would come true. Jocasta did have faith in the oracles, but only enough faith to suit her own
purpose. She worked to suppress much of the faith Oedipus had in them, in the interest of keeping the
city, herself, and Oedipus in a powerful yet strong position. Jocasta s role in the story influenced
Oedipus to think back to Laius death and begin to try to solve the Sphinx s riddle. Jocasta explains
that an oracle called for her husband s death to be at the hand of his own son. Seeing that thieves

Running away gave Oedipus the ability to avoid the oracle. Oedipus avoiding his prophecy, and
Jocasta and Laius avoiding theirs, enabled Jocasta to convinced herself that chance ruled their lives,
not prophecies. In Oedipus the King, it seems as though chance is a motif. King Laius was said to be
killed at three crossroads. When Oedipus ran from Corinth, he admitted to killing a man who caused
conflict along the way. The chance this could be the same man is very slim; the two stories did not
match up. Jocasta demands Oedipus tell her what he is thinking when he is trying to solve the kings
murder. It crosses Oedipus mind that he could be the killer, however; guilt left him in strong defense
when he tells Jocasta, I cannot be the killer. One can t equal many (Sophocles, 934). This
foreshadowing shows a possible suspect, and Oedipus guilty conscience. The witnesses to the death
recall multiple thieves being resent, and also that the murder took place at the three crossroads. The
Greek goddess of the crossroads, Hecate, was said to have three heads. Each head looked down a
different path one saw the past, one the present, and one the future. Though Hecate isn t mentioned in
the play, perhaps the three way crossroads in Oedipus the King has a similar symbolism.

The Dangers Of Public Smoking
Public smoking is being allowed to smoke in places that involve the community. Some places have
smoking bans because of the problems it can cause. I think people should not be able to smoke in
public places because it affects other people s health, it pollutes the earth, it could have a bad influence
on people, and it has an unpleasant smell.
Cigarettes does not only affect the person smoking, it can affect the people around them also.
Cigarettes contain a lot of chemicals that are harmful to humans: Phenolic compounds are toxic to
humans when consumed; for example, ingesting 1 g of phenol has been reported to be lethal and
causes muscle weakness and tremors, paralysis, loss of coordination, convulsions and coma (Pistonesi
et al . 2006). People should be able to go places without having to ingest something that can be
harmful to them. Some people may already have health problems such as asthma and the smoke can
be very dangerous for them to intake cigarette smoke. It could also affect an unborn baby. For
example, if a pregnant woman works at a place that allows smoking and inhales cigarette smoke
constantly, it could be harmful to her baby and cause permanent damage. A study conducted in
Ahmedabad, India to compare secondhand smoke in public place before and after a smoking ban
concluded that, SHS exposure was significantly reduced overall in public places after enactment of the
smoke free legislation (Jingyan et al. 31). This shows that people were exposed to

consisted of the remainder of the French population, varying from the city workers, peasants, wage

large population, which the majority composed of them. Initially, France only had around twenty
million people living within its borders. Nonetheless, over the century that number increased by eight

Most of the increased number of people was the peasantry. The large number of people limited the
work fields and not enough land was provided for all peasants, and therefore resulted in extreme
poverty. During that period of time, the Third Estate in France also lived very poorly. Their ways of
living were considerably filthy and disgusting. As taken from Arthur Young s Travels in France:

  • 2. Analysis Of Gone With The Outsiders 1. When Ponyboy awoke in the church he felt stiff, sore, scared, hungry, and confused. Ponyboy was also panicky because at first he forgot where he was, and Johnny was not there. Pony tried to convince himself that what happened last night was a dream, but he could remember every detail of the whole night. 2. Johnny cared for Pony by buying Pony s favorite book, got supplies for the two of them, bought bleach to disguise Pony, comforts him, tells him not to smoke too much, and lets him sleep on his shoulder. 3. The boys changed their hairstyles because they needed to disguise themselves from the police, so it would be less likely of them being caught. This was hard for them to do because their hair is a part of who they are, it identifies them as a Greaser. 4. The boys passed time in the church by reading Gone With the Wind out loud, playing cards, smoking, talking, and watching the sunsets. 5. Johnny feels that Dally is sort of like a hero, like the southern gentle men in Gone With the Wind. Johnny really loves Dally. Johnny feels this way about Darry because he is cool and calm in scary situations. 6. The information Dally brought the boys was Cherry became a spy for the Greasers, the Greasers and the Socs were going to have a big fight, and the policemen were looking for them in Texas because Dally told them that s where they were. 1. I think Johnny enjoyed reading Gone With the Wind because it is about the Civil War and the fight between the Socs and Greasers is sort of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nina Simone Research Paper Nina Simone was one of the most unique, influential, and gifted singers of her generation. She was born on February 21, 1933 as Eunice Waymon, in Tryon, North Carolina. Her mother was a preacher and she started playing piano at an early age, around 3 or 4 at her mother s church, as she was playing piano at a local recital she caught the eye of an older white woman willing to give her lessons. Nina went on to studying classical piano for 5 years with the woman, learning the stylings of the classical greats such as Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, and Brahms. As a child she felt so isolated, spending up to 7 hours a day practicing the piano, and growing up in the south in the segregation era, she felt as she could not fit in neither with the white or black community, even when surrounded by other children all they wanted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After 1 ½ years the money ran out, so she sought out to apply for a musical scholarship, once again facing racism, not only did she do quite well in her audition, but she had mastered many classical songs, yet still was not accepted due to the color of her skin. Out of options, she managed to find a job playing the piano at a crummy old bar in Atlantic City, where one day her boss mentioned that if she wanted to keep her job she had to sing, thus Nina Simone is born. Not wanting to disappoint her mother with the thought that she was playing the devils music she created her stage name which she is now famously known as. Nina emerged on the professional stage in 1960 at a jazz festival, and quickly gained recognition with her baritone voice, not only was her voice so unique that it grasped anyone s attention, but the way she cultivated the new sound of jazz was amazing. Nina had a way with music, mixing classical piano sounds with jazz, and folk music, she had created her own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Using A Polymer As A Material For Carbon Dioxide Regev Trigalo 10/29/15 ENG 199 HW#3: Simplified Literature Review on Research Topic My research involves the synthesizing polyamine starting from readily available building blocks namely ethylene and carbon monoxide and then using that to capture carbon dioxide, an undesirable greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming, from industrial processes. Currently, liquid amines are used industrially and while they are quite effective, they are costly, toxic, are not very recyclable, and degrade quickly. The novel use of a polymer as a material for this purpose could solve many of these issues. I chose three articles to review to get a better understanding of the current work being done in the field. The first, Absorbent Materials for Carbon Dioxide Capture from Large Anthropogenic Point Sources by Christopher Jones gives an overview of materials currently being used to capture carbon dioxide what I am attempting to do with polyamine. The second, Steam Stripping for Regeneration of Supported Amine Based CO2 Adsorbents, also by Jones, is a communications that discusses regeneration of the amine once it has been used for carbon dioxide capture. The third by Maschmeyer entitled The Reductive Amination of Aldehydes and Ketones and the Hydrogenation of Nitriles: Mechanistic Aspects and Selectivity Control relates to the reaction I am doing (reductive amination of a polyketone). Furthermore, a review article will be particularly good for my purposes because it will attempt to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects of Dynasties Three main dynasties that affected Chinese heritage, culture, economy and society were the Sui, Tang and Song dynasties. Each of these dynasties were significant into further building and creating China. Two out of three succeeded. Sui Dynasty was the second shortest dynasty, lasted only 38 years. The Tang Dynasty lasted almost 300 years and helped continue to improve China based on the results of the Sui Dynasty. The Song Dynasty followed after lasting only a few years because there was too much to do in order to fix the ruins from the downfall of the Tang Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty began in 581 and ended in 618. During the 38 years it lasted there were three different emperors who all made significant changes. After the tyrannical ... Economically the Tang dynasty also implemented an equal distribution system in order to increase taxes, and production, while ensuring the livelihood of the working families. Under this particular system the government would distribute similar portions of farmland to all qualifying males until they reached the retirement age of sixty. Socially, the government was in favor of the people doing a lot to take care of them and ensure their livelihood so the people remained at peace until religion got involved which eventually caused the downfall of their dynasty. The Song Dynasty began in 960 and ended in 1270. During the period it lasted, it didn t mount up to the previous two dynasties. The Sung rulers of that time encountered more problems than the previous rulers of their dynasties. After the downfall of the Tang Dynasty rebuilding it was too difficult which made the Song Dynasty non long lasting. Socially, politically and economically the dynasty was an epic fail. Rebuilding it was too difficult and the people remained unhappy making the Song Dynasty an unpleasant era. Each of the three dynasties affected China differently. The defintion of etiquette is the practices and forms prescribed by social convention or by authority. The history of etiquette started with the Maxims. The Maxims were conformist precepts extolling such civil virtues as truthfulness, self control and kindness towards one s fellow beings. What is considered mannerly is highly susceptible to change with time, geographical location, social stratum, occasion, and other factors. That manners matter is evidenced by the fact that large books have been written on the subject, advice columns frequently deal with questions of mannerly behavior, and that schools have existed for the sole purpose of teaching manners. The Scarlet Letter And Arthur Miller s The Crucible Carter Beaulieu Mr. Damaso AP English III, Period 5 21 October 2014 Puritanical Deception (1000) Emigrating from the Old World to purify the Church of England, the Puritan society was one of very strict religious beliefs. Believing in living plainly, the Puritans denounced those who went against their ways. They even excoriated fellow members of their community if a sin was bound to ones name. One sin in particular, adultery, was seen as a contravention to the covenant that the Puritans had established with God. Church leaders believed that unless the sinners were chastised, God would punish the whole community for a sin of such a magnitude. Despite having a sought out system of punishment for sinners, the tougher task for these leaders was to figure out who in fact was a sinner, as some did not confess. Those who did not confess or who had not been caught would behave hypocritically in order to preserve their reputation and avoid punishment. In both Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Arthur Miller s The Crucible, the repercussions of committing adultery are exhibited through characters in two different puritanical societies. Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Prynne, John Proctor, and Abigail Williams are all victims to this. Despite living in sincere societies, these characters behave hypocritically in order to hide a concealed truth, resulting in internal ignominy, until they ultimately confess. • 10. Supply And Demand Of Supply Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand relationship. Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. The correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market is known as the supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... B. The Law of Supply Like the law of demand, the law of supply demonstrates the quantities that will be sold at a certain price. But unlike the law of demand, the supply relationship shows an upward slope. This means that the higher the price, the higher the quantity supplied. Producers supply more at a higher price because selling a higher quantity at a higher price increases revenue. economics4.gif A, B and C are points on the supply curve. Each point on the curve reflects a direct correlation between quantity supplied (Q) and price (P). At point B, the quantity supplied will be Q2 and the price will be P2, and so on. (To learn how economic factors are used in currency trading, read Forex Walkthrough: Economics.) Time and Supply Unlike the demand relationship, however, the supply relationship is a factor of time. Time is important to supply because suppliers must, but cannot always, react quickly to a change in demand or price. So it is important to try and determine whether a price change that is caused by demand will be temporary or permanent. Let s say there s a sudden increase in the demand and price for umbrellas in an unexpected rainy season; suppliers may simply accommodate demand by using their production equipment more intensively. If, however, there is a climate change, and the population will need umbrellas year round, the change in demand and price will be expected to be long term; suppliers will have to change their equipment and production ... In recent years, the ability for governments to implement their mandates has shifted from being a function of the people s will to that of parliament s. A mandate is the authority provided by voters to a successful political party to pursue its policies in parliament. The opposition might be able to criticise government policy but according to this theory they have no right to amend, block or delay government legislation. Broader participation in the political process is limited by the government s claim to an all powerful mandate. Furthermore, in recent parliaments, the will of the government has been frustrated by the parliament. However, it is because of this fact it can be argued parliament produces better legislation due to poor legislation being blocked. The method is used to date all sorts of artifacts including bones, cloth, and wood, in addition to plants. For artifacts up to about 50,000 years old, it is one of the most specific methods of dating available. In the late 1940 s, C 14 was developed by Willard Libby. Archeologists use this dating method, which is the standard in the scientific industry to this date. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is an objective method that provides more accurate ages of artifacts by measuring the amount of C14 present in the artifact and comparing it to an already known reference artifact. According to Michael Gagne, in Dating in Archeology, Following the death of an organism, any exchange ceases and the carbon 14, which is radioactive and therefore unstable, slowly begins to disintegrate at a known rate (half life of 5730 years, ie, after this period only half of the total carbon 14 present at the time of death remains). The amount of carbon 14 remaining in the material to date is compared to a reference standard (ratio 14C/total carbon, 12C and 13C) to calculate the time elapsed since its occurrence. (Gagne, p. 1) This method actually is based on a something that occurs every day on earth and is the foundation of life. Think about it... all living species on Earth including plants and animals exchange carbon dioxide with their environment until they die. Marshall Brain in How Carbon 14 Dating Works describes simply how C14 dating works. Simply said, the way the process works is by measuring the amount of C14 in the artifact, which forms naturally when cosmic rays in the earth s upper atmosphere strike nitrogen molecules and oxidize to become carbon dioxide. Plants then absorb and continually replenish carbon dioxide until the plant dies or it passes onto animals that eat the plants. After the death of the organism, the amount of C14 in the organism or artifact decreases at a regular pace as decaying occurs. Since C14 has a half life of 5,730 plus or minus 40 years, the object loses half of its C14 about every 5,700 years. Once the organism dies, it stops taking on new carbon so the ratio of C12 to C14 is the same for every organism. Therefore, the age of and artifact can be determined fairly accurately if scientists compare the ratio of C12 to C14 in an artifact and compare it to the ratio in a ... • 15. Symbolism Of Redemption In The Orphanage Away By Ibsen Ibsen uses the orphanage as a symbolism of redemption for the Alving family. Mrs Alving sarcastically jibes at the Captain and his treatment of his own children, Oswald and Regina, by building a safe space with absent parents. The irony is emphasised, that Mrs Alving also failed to raise her son, believing he would be better off without her father, if that meant sacrificing her own time with Oswald. She moralised that spending the Captain s money on the orphanage would mean Oswald would gain nothing from his father. The tribute to the Captain eventually burned down, determining that the deception of man is determined to fall. The symbolism of the orphanage fire flames blaze as Oswald s illness hits a peak, emphasising that the consequences of Captain Alving s sins continue to burn. Although Mrs Alving was absent for the majority of Oswald s life, it is an expected social construct that a child automatically loves his parents, however Oswald examines this cultural notion by asking his mother: Do you really hang on to that old superstition you, so enlightened in everything else? His self centred nature becomes apparent as he discloses his mother could finally be useful to him now that he was ill. The expected role of mother comes to attention as Mrs Alving is faced with her final dilemma of duty versus tradition at the play s end as he asks his mother to assist with his suicide. A modern contrast to Ibsen s portrayal of gender is Martin Crimp s masterpiece, Attempts on Her Life. First staged in 1997 at The Royal Court Theatre, the play gathered critic s attention for Crimp s unique and original script satirising modern society and the media. The play has since become an international success translated into over 20 languages. The post dramatic play includes seventeen mini narratives of characters resembling the name Anne . The play explores the contradictions throughout society while specifically looking at gender themes. In this case when children might do wrong and held not responsible for their action since they are underaged, we could not draw the conclusion that all human beings have the capacity for self government. However, I do not agree with this view. Admittingly children do have limited responsibility, and people hold more lenient standard when judging their behaviours, it does not imply children, as a subgroup of human beings, does not have the capacity for self government or deepest level of intentionality. • 26. Social Reformer And A Cultural Relativist To be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativist By Jaimie Ianke Ethics PHL 104 475 Is it possible to be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativist? A Cultural Relativist is one who see morality as a product of that culture. That something is morally right if one s culture approves of it. This would mean that there are no guidelines on right and wrong. We cannot know any absolute right or wrong, per Rachels. Not judging another s society on what is right and wrong, would be one simple way to explain the Cultural Relativist perspective. Cultural Relativism works well if we were to look at another culture with the following conditions: The society as a whole would be considered archaic There is no industrialization ... This would be the way to not just be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativism at the same time. Martin Luther King Jr sought out to change society for the better and to rid of slavery. There is a way this can be done within the confinements demanded by Cultural Relativism. This being as society has not been living up to its own ideas. This makes the reformer be seen as to be doing what is for the better of society. Where the ideas of society have the quality by we conclude any motion as worthwhile. Then, the idea of social reform in this very restricted way would make sense. We should not change any part of any culture or society unless it is for the better. Making or wanting to make any type of change for personal gain of any sorts would not be the correct way of doing anything unless it is for the good of society. This would be a very good example of the best symbiotic relationship there actually could be. But without a Cultural Relativist and their perspective on society we would not have social ... Steinbock states that parents that go to such great lengths to control their future child s abilities would be guilty of parental tyranny (565). • 31. The role of Jocasta in Oedipus the King is crucial.... The role of Jocasta in Oedipus the King is crucial. Jocasta sees the reality of the situation before Oedipus and the chorus do. The prophecies made themselves known long ago, and Jocasta believed that they would come true. Jocasta did have faith in the oracles, but only enough faith to suit her own purpose. She worked to suppress much of the faith Oedipus had in them, in the interest of keeping the city, herself, and Oedipus in a powerful yet strong position. Jocasta s role in the story influenced Oedipus to think back to Laius death and begin to try to solve the Sphinx s riddle. Jocasta explains that an oracle called for her husband s death to be at the hand of his own son. Seeing that thieves evidently killed the king, Oedipus as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Running away gave Oedipus the ability to avoid the oracle. Oedipus avoiding his prophecy, and Jocasta and Laius avoiding theirs, enabled Jocasta to convinced herself that chance ruled their lives, not prophecies. In Oedipus the King, it seems as though chance is a motif. King Laius was said to be killed at three crossroads. When Oedipus ran from Corinth, he admitted to killing a man who caused conflict along the way. The chance this could be the same man is very slim; the two stories did not match up. Jocasta demands Oedipus tell her what he is thinking when he is trying to solve the kings murder. It crosses Oedipus mind that he could be the killer, however; guilt left him in strong defense when he tells Jocasta, I cannot be the killer. One can t equal many (Sophocles, 934). This foreshadowing shows a possible suspect, and Oedipus guilty conscience. The witnesses to the death recall multiple thieves being resent, and also that the murder took place at the three crossroads. The Greek goddess of the crossroads, Hecate, was said to have three heads. Each head looked down a different path one saw the past, one the present, and one the future. Though Hecate isn t mentioned in the play, perhaps the three way crossroads in Oedipus the King has a similar symbolism. (www.shmmoop.com). I think people should not be able to smoke in public places because it affects other people s health, it pollutes the earth, it could have a bad influence on people, and it has an unpleasant smell. Cigarettes does not only affect the person smoking, it can affect the people around them also. Cigarettes contain a lot of chemicals that are harmful to humans: Phenolic compounds are toxic to humans when consumed; for example, ingesting 1 g of phenol has been reported to be lethal and causes muscle weakness and tremors, paralysis, loss of coordination, convulsions and coma (Pistonesi et al . 2006).
