Validation In The Canterbury Tales Essay
One of the main forces behind humanity s drive to be a good person is validation. Religion is a way
for people to become better and receive validation from others. In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury
Tales, Chaucer writes about a large group of people on a pilgrimage, who keep themselves occupied
by telling stories to each other. The Canterbury Tales shows how many different kinds of people find
validation through religion. The Canterbury Tales makes it seem as though the only reason people
followed religion was to receive acceptance from others through the Church because the characters do
not take religion or God seriously. Religious figures on the pilgrimage, like the Friar and the Prioress,
break their promises of chastity to God constantly, yet they continue to claim they are good figures of
the Church because people think more highly of them if they are practicing abstinence. The Prioress is
not truly faithful to God, which is seen in her brooch of shining gold; inscribed thereon/ Was, first of
all, a crowned A ,/ And under, [love conquers all], (7). The Prioress is a nun who supposedly devoted
herself to God through marriage. When a nun declares herself faithful to God, it means that she will
practice abstinence. A brooch that says love conquers all implies that the person wearing it is someone
for whom their promise to god is second to their desire for worldly love. Likewise, the Prioress also
accepts gifts from men, showing once again that she does not take

Racism, Prejudice And Antisemitism
Racism, Prejudice, and antisemitism are very serious concerns that need to be dealt with. As Rosa
Parks said, Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet,
and, hopefully, we shall overcome. Even if people now are trying to get rid of these horrific concerns.
Many bad things are still going on in the world. But there are just as many solutions on how to combat
these horrific acts. Throughout the essay, you ll see how serious racism, bullying, and antisemitism
are, and you ll hopefully then understand why, and how you should combat it. Bullying is the act of
repeated harassment against someone for someone s own pleasure.
There are three main types of bullying: physical bullying, verbal bullying, ... Show more content on

Maya Angelou Graduation Essay
In Maya Angelou s gloomy Graduation essay she asserts that the significance of that moment allowed
her to outpace the discrimination and stereotypes of the 1940 s. Angelou develops her claim by the use
of imagery, transparent diction and pathos. Angelou s purpose is to draw forth the discrimination and
stereotypes put into black people in the 1940 s in order to notify the effects that this might cause. This
essay is not directed towards a specific type of audience but to a general one.
Angelou s use of imagery connects the reader to the moment of her graduation. She described
everyone as having a graduation epidemic . Everyone was ecstatic for their graduation day and so was
Angelou . With the use of imagery we the reader have the feeling

Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in
the past the moments of life that have finished. Did you lose your job? Has a loving relationship come
to an end? Did you leave your parents house? Gone to live abroad? Has a long lasting friendship
ended all of a sudden? You can spend a long time wondering why this has happened. You can tell
yourself you won t take another step until you find out why certain things that were so important and
so solid in your life have turned into dust, just like that. But such an attitude will be awfully stressing
for everyone involved: your parents, your husband or wife, your friends, your children, your sister.
Everyone is finishing chapters, turning over new leaves, getting on with life, and they will all feel bad
seeing you at a standstill. Things pass, and the best we can do is to let them really go away. That is
why it is so important (however painful it may be!) to destroy souvenirs, move, give lots of things
away to orphanages, sell or donate the books you have at home. Everything in this visible world is a
manifestation of the invisible world, of what is going on in our hearts and getting rid of certain
memories also means making some room for other memories to take their place. Let things go.
Release them. Detach yourself from them. Nobody plays this life

Robert Rauschenberg And John Cage
In the early 20th Century, western history has entered a new era with the fast development of
modernization, industrialization and the technologies. The machines took over the human labor they
gradually replace the important role of human in the process of making and change the ways people
live, started the fast pace, high speed of modern lifestyle. Modern art approached with a number of
painter, sculptures, poets who individually or collectively to redefine through around this century. The

He experiments if an artwork could be produced entirely through erasure. He approached Willem de
Kooning for a drawing to erase. At the time in 1953 the Erase de Kooning drawing was produced and

the final new artwork is actually nothing . Though the erasure is the important part of the whole

because it stands for the era when something seemingly negative could, in fact, turn out to have

we want is to break down the mysterious doors of the impossible? Time and space died yesterday.
Furthermore Tommaso depicts the tradition cultures and heritage of Roma in an expressively negative

Taking a Look at the Vietnam War
North Vietnam cannot defeat or humiliate the United States. Only Americans can do that. I bet you can
guess that whoever said this quote was very anti war. That person is Richard Nixon, thirty seventh
president of the United States. Nixon was the president who ended the war, but which president had
beliefs that war was necessary? Thirty sixth president of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson
was the accused main blame for starting the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was probably the most
controversial war that was ever fought as most people opposed the war and hated Johnson. The war
was also very destructive and the facts prove it. The causes of war, the war itself, and the aftermath of
the war are all major parts in telling the story of the Vietnam War. The most controversial part of the
war is why we started fighting; or in other words, what are the causes of the war. One cause of the war
was Indochina s independence from France and Ho Chi Minh s reign. In 1953, Indochina (Vietnam,
Cambodia, Laos) defeated the French to gain their independence from them (Place). After the war,
Vietnam was separated into two parts, North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was named
ruler in North Vietnam, and Ngo Dinh Diem was named ruler in South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was
infamous for being a very unruly leader. He set up a communist government in North Vietnam known
as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Gilbert, 373). Ho Chi Minh wanted Vietnam to be a

Reflection Of Human Ethics
To start with, I must affirm you that throughout the course all the topics were essential to me and has
helped me improve my skill on human ethics. However, as it is suggested let me focus on the four
concepts that were very essential to me. First, ethics and values are very necessary in the human life
both personally and professionally. When serving my clients at work and contributing to communal
change, these were the first keys component for me to use in my daily activity, and also with my house
of values I succeeded to encourage the distinctive characteristics of human facilitiesin my community
because in doing this community service support the integrity and ethics of the incentive workers, help
clients and our community well being as well as increase our incentive payment. In my everyday
activity, ethics and values refer to the conduct of a professional and to the moral standards I embrace.
Therefore, some of the ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one hand, the second concept is where I began to question and critiques my own perception on
what it mean to be a human since I know that being human I must be able to understand myself
through thinking, networking and action, and I believe that this critical points influenced my life s
perspective and make change totally the sense of who I am as a human. On the other hand, it was
explained in the Aquinas lecture that a person is fully substantial from the union expressed by the term
I (Clarke, 2004, p. 29), and I am convincing that to be fully human I really to know who I am as
substance. Even through, being in a moment is what makes me an excellent human whose life is

Similarities Between Humans And Humans
It has long been acknowledged and recognised that humans differ greatly from the rest of the living
world. Throughout the years, numerous theories encompassing the past and present development of
living creatures have attempted to bridge the gap and produce a method in which we can categorise
both humans and animals. These have contributed to radical conclusions including theories regarding
humans as naturally superior and above other forms of life. This is a prevailing belief that is flawed
through a scientific lens, as humans are indeed still animals. Through extensive scientific research, it
is greatly supported that it is from primates with advanced dexterity and sentience which humans
evolved. This is made evident through the common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opposable thumbs have shown an evolutionary advantage, as their development has provided humans
with a range of purposes that have been beneficial to survival. Such benefits include, however are not
limited to, the grasping and handling of objects that enabled the creation of weapons, as well as the
operation and utilisation of tools and environmental resources.
Another way to distinguish humans from other animals is through a cognitive viewpoint. The capacity
of human cognition is unique when compared to other animals, and is most evidently seen through the
ability to communicate via language. Finally, on the cultural measure, humans are unique and
distinctive in their willingness to increase the chance of survival through limiting their offspring.
What makes us humans? and What distinguishes us from other forms of life? are some general
questions with which humans have always been concerned. Many philosophies have been constructed
which shed light on the sequence of events that depict how humans came to be and their association
with other animals. Aside from the apparent biological characteristics that humans and animals share,
they also acquire traits that are to a degree, distinct from each other. An excellent biological example
is the gift of evolution to mankind, the opposable thumb. The opposable thumb is of great value and
use to humans. From climbing, grasping and throwing, the possession of a thumb has revealed a whole

Osteoporosis Summary
In the new treatments of osteoporosis by Bente Langdahl. Langdahl states that medical studies are
close to finding a way to keep bone density to remain the same without bones being easily fractured.
All of the procedures that Langdahls article has attempted was an anabolic treatment. They just need
to figure out why the antiresorptive is coupling in the cathepsin k and sclerosis. Once they can solve
why the matrix is coupling and get it approve Langdahl believe that this will be two new valuable
tools for people who have osteoporosis. In this article, Langdahl thinks that once they fix the matrix of
the cathepsin K and the sclerosin from coupling this will be very helpful for the bone mass and bone
volume. This is only a temporary solution until they can figure out the reason the two inhibitors are
coupling. This formula with cathepsin K and sclerosin has proven ... Show more content on

Symbolism In The Divine Comedy
Every arrangement of words seems to be an understatement when mentioning the success and
influence of Dante s epic poem The Divine Comedy. An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can
be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one (Oxford Dictionary). The
Divine Comedy has provided inspiration for a large body of Western Art. Originally published in the
14th century, his medieval poem written in the vernacular language of the people has been the material
for countless numbers of new editions containing illustrations. Each artist finds their own clever way
to express the messages in The Divine Comedy. The amount of art dedicated to this epic poem is just
as impressive as the poem itself.
Inferno appears to be the most popular of the three books, especially in the visual arts. Dante s is a
visual imagination (T.S. Elliot). Extremely detailed, the book describes Hell in the most powerful
visual terms. In the Inferno, Dante and the poet Virgil go to Hell where they witness the many
punishments for those who disobeyed God during their lives. Each layer of Hell, described in thirty
three cantos and one introductory canto, is unique and fitting for the soul and the specific sin that was
committed. (Web Gallery of Art, 2017)
The most accurate representation of the structure of Dante s Hell, Sandro Botticelli is responsible for
The Map of Hell, which depicts the nine circles of Hell. Described as a cave, the Map of Hell on paper
is in the shape of a funnel with layers. Each layer is a level of Hell described by Dante. The levels get
smaller and smaller until, at the bottom of the cave or funnel one sees a satanic like beast at the bottom
or core. Starting with Limbo and ending with Treachery, each layer is drawn out in magnifying detail.
Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, the Florentine was alive from around
1445 to 1510 (Florence Inferno, 2017). The man responsible for The Birth of Venus, a masterpiece
that is referred to in both historical context and in pop culture, he was a very decadent and detailed
artist. His illustrations for The Divine Comedy were extremely devoted to the text and very precise.

A Frightening Journey Essay
A Frightening Journey
It was a dark knight, I remember that it was Thursday which is usually said as the Friday night. People
believe that many evil spirits will appear and haunt people or the human being. And this is my
experience when I had to walk alone on the Friday night.
I went to my aunt s house on Tegal Wangi street in order to give her some food cooked by my mother.
It was o clock in the evening and I arrived thereat quarter past seven in the evening. I rode my
motorbike. There, I met my aunt and my cousin, whereas my uncle was going to the village and was
not at home. She was happy to know that I visited her. As usual, we talked about many things. It was

did not want to bother her. I kept walking until I found a very silent road. Nobody was going out and
only several lamps were turned on. I started to feel frightened. I stopped and thought again, I planned
to come back to my uncle s house but it was too late. My house was about several meters away, and I
had to pass the road because the road is the shortcut to my house. I encouraged myself, I have to be
brave! Slowly, I started to walk through that frightening road. I saw to the left and to the right. The
road was like a dead city. I could not find anybody there. Suddenly, I felt someone following me.

Dual Credit American History Research Paper
Looking back at Dual Credit American history, it was the research papers that saved my grade.
Learning from my mistakes I discovered that self sufficiency was not the only attribute that I would
require for Dual Credit American History. I had made it through every class before putting in the work

work that I did on my own was sufficient, why would I need additional help? It was with the first test
on the second day of testing that I realized this would have to change.
In class we had already did our study guides for the multiple choice and reviewed what to write for the
essay topics. I was about equally prepared for them both. The second test day was essay test day we
had 45 minutes to fully answer the questions. Mrs. Baylous announced that the chosen essay was

The Effects Of Technology On Communication
One can never deny that society s cultural ideals have changed dramatically in the past decades. This
is, in part, due to the changes in technological advances. These devices almost a complete necessity as
of 2017, since, from personal experience, many professors require students to use technology to
complete assignments and to turn them in. The past 10 years have also allowed for sociable machines,
as Sherry Turkle, a Professor of Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT, explains in her
book Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age. Many machines today can be
programmed to communicate or even provide services that a human being could do, only do so
flawlessly. While these advantages can be seen as something that can only benefit people, Turkle
explains that the reality of this phenomenon must be taken into deeper consideration when concerning
how this affects people psychologically.
Turkle examination on the long lasting effects that technology can have on conversation begins with
the story of an experience she had conversing with a school who worried that their students were
beginning to lose empathy and find it difficult to connect or to make friends because they were raised
not knowing a life without advanced technology or social media. The excessive use of technology
created a sort of barrier that prevented people from joining into deep and important conversations and
from joining them without distraction. (Turkle 5) She goes beyond this

An Analysis Of If We Must Die By Claude Mckay
War over the years is a brutal, long battle between two opposing sides. Whose sole purpose is for one
side to come out the victor and claim that your side are superior or to stop the mentality of superiority
and to make peace. World War one was a brutal war in which Britain,
France, and Russia were on the losing side and were almost on the way of giving up. Until, the
United States bravely stepped in during 1917 to give a helping hand to allies while they were down for
the count and went on to win World War one (Murrin et al. 620). With that bit of encouragement,
whether as big of a power as the United States or as small as just some helpful words are enough to
overcome an adversary. In the poem, If We Must Die , Claude McKay ... Show more content on

Hopefulness is conveyed throughout the poem through the author s choice of words and how he
chooses to use them.
Hyperboles throughout the poem are used as tools of encouragement to bring out the bravery out of
the soldiers in their dire situation. McKay showcases that, While round us bark the mad and hungry
dogs, / Making their mock at our accursèd lot. / If we must die, O let us nobly die,
(3 5). The commander is telling his fellow soldiers how the enemy is ravaging and is mocking them at
every chance they get and how they should die nobly and not give in to the enemy. This quote is using
hyperbole by describing the enemy as mad and hungry dogs / Making their Mock at our accur to show
how menacing the enemy soldiers are and their intentions. McKay uses the hyperbole to describe the
severity and danger of the enemy but also gives advice to the soldiers that although they be strong
they should go out like noble men with honor and not like cowards.
Before going to battle the commander exclaims, Like men we ll face the murderous, cowardly pack, /
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back! (13 14). The commander is giving his last words of

Analysis Of Howard Zinn s The United States
There is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written
from records left by the privileged.
― Howard Zinn, A People s History of the United States
Zinn once remarked, Objectivity is impossible and it is also undesirable. That is, if it were possible it
would be undesirable, because if you have any kind of a social aim, if you think history should serve
society in some way; should serve the progress of the human race; should serve justice in some way,
then it requires that you make your selection on the basis of what you think will advance causes of
humanity (Flynn). It is pretty clear to the reader that Zinn believes that socialism and Communism are
systems that advance the cause of humanity, and that America is a reactionary, terrorist state; those
beliefs form the foundation of his tendentious and error ridden book.
In A People s History of the United States, greed is the explanation for every major historical event.
As we see in Zinn s book, just to name a few examples, the separation from Great Britain, the Civil
War, and World Wars I and II were driven by motives involving rich Americans more or less seeking
to improve themselves at the expenses of others. To me it seems that there is clearly a disparity
between the promise and practice of democracy and capitalism in twentieth century America. For
Zinn, the answer is the same as the question pretty much. America is a cruel, slaveholder society
whose goal is

Essay On Ngo Dinh Diem
When I was young, I always wanted a simple life with no significant vicissitudes. I had just wanted to
live selfishly on my own until I witnessed HIV infected kids who were too guiltless to be victimized,
and then the war in Syria that led to the destruction of Aleppo and countless deaths of innocent human
beings. From that moment, I knew I could no longer stay still. But as soon as I decided to act, I
realized the heartbreaking truth: I am living in Vietnam, a country that used to be so strong and brave
but now is afraid to speak up for their rights and neglects the invaders trying to take over their land, I
cannot thrive here. Vietnamese citizens are scared of the unaccustomed and do not dare to speak up

We are not allowed to receive a sustainable education that provides us with knowledge coming from
different sources other than national textbooks. Public books must be strictly examined by the
government to show a view that must either advocate the regime or adopt a neutral stance. Therefore,
many books on the same topic are identical in content, some would even copy each other s lines of
reasoning. My friend in the U.S. once asked me what Vietnamese s general knowledge about Ngo
Dinh Diem was and just to her expectation, I quickly replied that they abominated him. I thought it
was the most proper answer that any students here could think of until she asked me why and gave
reasons that Diem had contributed so much to Vietnam, especially to the Southern part after the
Indochina war by establishing five universities and legislating new laws that helped enhance the
country s development. I was shocked. Not because she knew so much, but because I knew nothing.
Until now, even being a senior student at a top high school in the most modern city, I still have no idea
that Diem once wanted to create a better Vietnam and because of the money pressure, he had to seek
support from other countries, which is the complete opposite of what I was taught in History class that
Diem took the force of the United States to ruin this

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Public Services
UNDER the scheme, since the public funds are fairly easily available i.e 80 % of the project cost is
provided by central and 10 % by state government, hence it is also observed that most of the ULBs are
going in for long distance expensive projects for water supply. For example in Khandwa and Shivpuri
towns of Madhya Pradesh, the ULBs have gone for projects costing Rs 106 crores and Rs 80 crores
respectively for water supply augmentation.
The other fall out of long distance, capital intensive projects is that investment wise these are such
projects which the ULBs cannot afford to pay for. This has lead them to the doors of the private

The effect of such capital intensive private water supply is people have to pay more for the water
supply. Under the private project like in Khandwa ,public stand posts would be disconnected and
removed. There would not be any other source of water from which the people would be allowed to
source water other than that of private operator. The private operator would have the right to stop the
use of even the handpumps, even those installed before the contract was signed.
Out of the total project cost of Rs 115.32 crores, KMC through the central and state government

Selecting a Disciple-Maker’s Message Essay
SELECTING A DISCIPLE MAKER S MESSAGE
Introduction
Message selection, for the disciple maker, is an all important endeavor. Effective disciple making does
not just simply happen. Happenstance cannot be and should not be the modus operandi of one who
desires to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. People are fragile and the Gospel is powerful.
God has entrusted his fragile people with a powerful Gospel message. As people who have been
entrusted with such a powerful Gospel, we should do everything within our means to see that it is
presented in a positive and successful manner.
Leaving the disciple making process to chance, or to coincidental occurrence, is negligence at best.
Reliance on the Holy Spirit in this process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using one s environment to convey the message keeps us from conveying one that Barna refers to as
warm and fuzzy but forgettable . We want to convey a message from God that sticks. Observing and
using the environment of the student is an excellent way to do this.
Participation
Jesus used metaphor in the calling of at least a few of his disciples. The metaphor we speak of offered
participation in something great. To a couple of fisherman, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, he
asked that they follow him and he promised to make them fishers of men. Jesus had a life experience
to share with these men. He was going to teach them to do the very thing he was going to preach
about; he was going to do it with them. These men were fisherman who made a living by catching
fish. The thought of catching men intrigued them so much that they left their nets and followed Jesus.
Mitchell tells us that participation in life provides a message to experience with others. A good teacher
will choose the experiences that he wants his students to be exposed to. Jesus is the good teacher; he
uses experiences to convey messages to his disciples. Perhaps none is more pronounced than his
lesson about faith when he fell asleep on a boat with his disciples, during a storm. What an experience
this was for the men he was teaching and he participated in the lesson with them. The storm

The End Of The Civil War
After the Civil War, the fact that slavery was abolished might seem to be the end of the story;
however, the problems derived from the abolishment of slavery had yet to be addressed. During the
Reconstruction Era, these problems were reflected on the political, social, and economic aspects.
Which played several major roles in shaping America from the late nineteenth into the twentieth
centuries. These three aspects, political, social, and economical, affected one another so much that they
were inseparable. The beginning leniency of Andrew Johnson all the way to the Confederates and later
the political conflict between Johnson and the Radical Republicans, and lastly, the political struggle
between Republicans and Democrats. It all resulted in the ever changing policies toward the freed
people. These different policies had strong effects on the society, especially the freed people. Although
some of the policies, such as the abolition of slavery and several Constitutional Amendments were
beneficial to the rights of freed people, the sudden increase of freed people brought about the
separation of black and white and many other social issues. Thus the real equality among people still
had yet to be achieved. The economy also affected the society and the politics. The depression of the
economy after the Civil War made people focus on their own situations, instead of worrying about the
freed people. For example the people were distressed about getting money and how to provide for

A Distinct Concepts Of Liberty
Berlin argued that there were two very distinct concepts of liberty competing in the history of political
philosophy. Negative liberty describes the freedom not to be interfered with. It is the common and
common sense understanding of freedom. Liberal societies (small l) try to arrange government to give
individuals the largest sphere of liberty concerning important human values speech, worship, property
and so forth compatible with the maximum liberty of others.
Positive liberty is more complicated and not so common sensical. It is the freedom to do something. It
describes the capacity to exercise liberty, not just the absence of interference. What good is the
freedom to own property, for example, if you have no money? Liberty without capacity, in the positive
conception, is meaningless.
Negative liberty is the first political value among many in the political philosophies in the English
liberal tradition and in the liberal democracies they have shaped. In theocratic societies and in the
European political philosophies of the counter Enlightenment, negative liberty is trivial; their ultimate
political values vary by ideology from salvation to sharia to equality and liberty means having the
conditions and capacity for the right values to flourish. Positive liberty always entails a concept of the
good life; negative liberty assumes there are many good lives.
What gave Berlin s ideas such sway was not the brilliance and novelty of the distinction between

Stockholm Syndrome Typology
Stockholm Syndrome typically happens under a situation in which a victim is put under extreme
duress; situations such as kidnapping and hostage taking, among other situations. When put under
such duress, a victim will [typically] adjust themselves into survival mode ; in other words, they
change their behavior to help them survive.
One of these adjustments may end up to what they call Stockholm Syndrome. Stockholm Syndrome is
when the victim acclimates to the situation and develops a positive relationship with their captor.
Temporarily, in a hostage situation, this is great because a positive relationship between the two (or
more) can help increase the time of the incident, which mean that the hostage may escaped unscathed.
However, long term effects of Stockholm Syndrome could be detrimental. Long term effects include,

Compare and contrast the three typologies of hostage takers.
There are several different typologies of hostage takers. However, there are three main types of
hostage takers that are dominant throughout the typologies. These three typologies would be the
mentally ill hostage takers, criminal hostage takers, and the crusaders (social, political, religious, and
ethnic).
Firstly, there are the mentally ill hostage takers. Out of all of the three hostage takers, the mentally ill
ones are the most common of the three. However, they happen to be the most irrational and
unpredictable of the three; most commonly threatening the death of their hostages and themselves.
These hostage takers often ...seeks recognition from the intense media exposure that follows...

Secondly, there are the criminal hostage takers. Unlike the other two, criminal hostage takers are the
most rational and predictable. In fact, criminals taking hostages are typically unplanned. Their main
goal is to gain something illegally (i.e. robbing a bank); however, not everything goes as planned.

My brown eyes raced around the unknown area. Calculating and taking in the overgrown lush forest

As it concentrated on the continuous howling, I glanced to the left to see a sharp branch on the ground.
Sneakily, I weave my hand around the beast iron grip, to reach for the stick. It growled at my sudden

Erikna Hayasaki Poverty
This Is Your Brain On Poor Response
In Erika Hayasaki s essay This Is Your Brain On Poor she talks about the effects that poverty and
depravity have on the human mind. This is often an overlooked aspect when people study poverty and
it s place in society but, it is incredibly important for helping those affected by poverty. Poverty and
social inequality is an issue that America has been dealing with for as long as we have a nation. While
some argue that poverty has no effect on the mind and mental development of those that grow up poor,
I think Hayasaki s argument that the effects of poverty are very real and detrimental to a person s mind
is much more sensible and realistic when examining the evidence brought with it.

Power Hungry Athens
Whose Fault Was it Anyway: The Power Hungry Athenians?
If we do go to war, have no thought that you went to war over a trivial affair (Pericles, in Hunt 101¬).
With a sudden rise to power after the end of the Persian War, Athens became a naval superpower in
control of many other city states in the Delian alliance that struck fear into their rival, the Spartans,
who believed that the Athenians might destroy Sparta s control over their own alliance. Becoming as
powerful as Athens did, the city state became power hungry and led the Greeks into long years of
turmoil, leading to the end of the Golden Age. Sparta may have started the war, but Athens holds most
of the blame, for creating an empire through the Delian League, prospering economically, ... Show

They believ[ed] that their security depended on winning a competition for power (Hunt 79). Allied
with city states from northern Greece, the islands of the Aegean Sea, and along the Ionian coast, this
alliance was built on naval power. By controlling the seas and most coastal regions Athens created a
global super power that could rival Sparta s alliance in size and strength, intimidating the other nation.
It began as a democratic alliance... (Hunt 79), but Athens soon took complete control of the allies,
because the city state was allowed to command and set up all of the league s financial arrangements
for the naval fleet. Around three hundred city states paid dues according to its size to the Athenians,
who in turn were in charge of how the dues were spent. Most of the dues that were not already paid in
the form of triremes were spent on building the boat and paying the oarsmen. It was through this line
of work and amount of income, gaining both income and political influence, that the poor citizens
were eager to expand Athens s power over other Greeks (Hunt 80). This very fleet of triremes were
used by the Athenians to force disobedient allies to pay financial dues. With Athens becoming as
powerful as they did in a short amount of time the militant Sparta feared for their superiority in

Oxidative Stress Key Research Data and Analysis
Key Research Data and Analysis Study 1: Ipc1 controls the Pkc1 activation by modulation of DAG
Regulation of DAG and phytoceramide by Ipc1. When Wild type and GAL7::IPC1 strains were
exposed to galactose and glucose, DAG (activator of PKC1) levels in the GAL7::IPC1 strain increased
when IPC1 was induced by galactose, and decreased when IPC1 was repressed by glucose.
Furthermore, phytoceramide levels were increased when IPC1 was down regulated by glucose in the
GAL7::IPC1 strain. In both wild type strains, no change was seen when IPC1 was up or down
regulated, as expected (Fig. 2). PKC1 activity in relation to DAG and Phytoceramide exposure. Since
IPC1 regulates DAG and phytoceramide levels, the authors wanted to explore if DAG or
phytoceramide can control PKC1 activity. DAG or phytoceramide were delivered in Triton x 100 lipid
micelles and histone phosphorylation by recombinant PKC1 was measured in absence or presence of
lipids. Without lipids, Pkc1 activity was 31.5 pmol/min/mg. When DAG subspecies were added, Pkc1
activity increased up to two fold (Fig. 3A). In order to make sure kinase activity measured was
specific to Pkc1, APP1 activity was measured when exposed to DAG subspecies and as expected, did
not cause phosphorylation of histone, which was expected (Fig. 3B). When phytoceramide lipids were
added, Pkc1 activity decreased by about 50% compared to no phytoceramide, which was expected
because phtyoceramide is an inhibitor of Pkc1 (Fig. 3C). Study 2:

Another important heuristic to consider in the case is when diffuse, dull abdominal pain is associated
with nausea and vomiting, it is essential to consider a diagnosis of pancreatitis (Banks, Conwell,
Toskes, 2010). Another significant heuristic to consider for Ms. Roe is that since she had a recent
extensive surgery and has been on nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs, it would be important to
consider PUD as a differential diagnosis (Ramakrishnan, Salinas, 2007).
The significant biopsychosocial issues that should be considered for Ms. Roe include assessing current

feeling and affection to seem he is tough. I would implore holding to go out in the world and act like
how he really is and not to make a fake false persona of himself. Holden is suspended between
adulthood and childhood. Several of his actions and words show evidence of his confusion between
adults and children. Admitting to his immaturity, Holden says, I was sixteen then, and I m seventeen
now, and sometimes I act like I m about thirteen. (Salinger 9) Sunny, the prostitute is an example of
Holden s attempt to be an adult, but realizing he is stuck in childhood. You see my son is really trying

  • 2. Validation In The Canterbury Tales Essay One of the main forces behind humanity s drive to be a good person is validation. Religion is a way for people to become better and receive validation from others. In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer writes about a large group of people on a pilgrimage, who keep themselves occupied by telling stories to each other. The Canterbury Tales shows how many different kinds of people find validation through religion. The Canterbury Tales makes it seem as though the only reason people followed religion was to receive acceptance from others through the Church because the characters do not take religion or God seriously. Religious figures on the pilgrimage, like the Friar and the Prioress, break their promises of chastity to God constantly, yet they continue to claim they are good figures of the Church because people think more highly of them if they are practicing abstinence. The Prioress is not truly faithful to God, which is seen in her brooch of shining gold; inscribed thereon/ Was, first of all, a crowned A ,/ And under, [love conquers all], (7). The Prioress is a nun who supposedly devoted herself to God through marriage. When a nun declares herself faithful to God, it means that she will practice abstinence. A brooch that says love conquers all implies that the person wearing it is someone for whom their promise to god is second to their desire for worldly love. Likewise, the Prioress also accepts gifts from men, showing once again that she does not take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Racism, Prejudice And Antisemitism Racism, Prejudice, and antisemitism are very serious concerns that need to be dealt with. As Rosa Parks said, Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they have to meet, and, hopefully, we shall overcome. Even if people now are trying to get rid of these horrific concerns. Many bad things are still going on in the world. But there are just as many solutions on how to combat these horrific acts. Throughout the essay, you ll see how serious racism, bullying, and antisemitism are, and you ll hopefully then understand why, and how you should combat it. Bullying is the act of repeated harassment against someone for someone s own pleasure. There are three main types of bullying: physical bullying, verbal bullying, ... There were glass walls in the memorial with quotes that Holocaust survivors wrote. One famous one being, Once you crossed the gate to the camp, there was no chance of getting out of there alive. Maya Angelou Graduation Essay In Maya Angelou s gloomy Graduation essay she asserts that the significance of that moment allowed her to outpace the discrimination and stereotypes of the 1940 s. Angelou develops her claim by the use of imagery, transparent diction and pathos. Angelou s purpose is to draw forth the discrimination and stereotypes put into black people in the 1940 s in order to notify the effects that this might cause. This essay is not directed towards a specific type of audience but to a general one. Angelou s use of imagery connects the reader to the moment of her graduation. She described everyone as having a graduation epidemic . Everyone was ecstatic for their graduation day and so was Angelou . With the use of imagery we the reader have the feeling ... Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished. Did you lose your job? Has a loving relationship come to an end? Did you leave your parents house? Gone to live abroad? Has a long lasting friendship ended all of a sudden? You can spend a long time wondering why this has happened. You can tell yourself you won t take another step until you find out why certain things that were so important and so solid in your life have turned into dust, just like that. But such an attitude will be awfully stressing for everyone involved: your parents, your husband or wife, your friends, your children, your sister. Everyone is finishing chapters, turning over new leaves, getting on with life, and they will all feel bad seeing you at a standstill. Things pass, and the best we can do is to let them really go away. That is why it is so important (however painful it may be!) to destroy souvenirs, move, give lots of things away to orphanages, sell or donate the books you have at home. Everything in this visible world is a manifestation of the invisible world, of what is going on in our hearts and getting rid of certain memories also means making some room for other memories to take their place. That person is Richard Nixon, thirty seventh president of the United States. Nixon was the president who ended the war, but which president had beliefs that war was necessary? Thirty sixth president of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson was the accused main blame for starting the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was probably the most controversial war that was ever fought as most people opposed the war and hated Johnson. The war was also very destructive and the facts prove it. The causes of war, the war itself, and the aftermath of the war are all major parts in telling the story of the Vietnam War. The most controversial part of the war is why we started fighting; or in other words, what are the causes of the war. One cause of the war was Indochina s independence from France and Ho Chi Minh s reign. In 1953, Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) defeated the French to gain their independence from them (Place). After the war, Vietnam was separated into two parts, North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was named ruler in North Vietnam, and Ngo Dinh Diem was named ruler in South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh was infamous for being a very unruly leader. He set up a communist government in North Vietnam known as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (Gilbert, 373). However, as it is suggested let me focus on the four concepts that were very essential to me. First, ethics and values are very necessary in the human life both personally and professionally. When serving my clients at work and contributing to communal change, these were the first keys component for me to use in my daily activity, and also with my house of values I succeeded to encourage the distinctive characteristics of human facilitiesin my community because in doing this community service support the integrity and ethics of the incentive workers, help clients and our community well being as well as increase our incentive payment. • 9. Similarities Between Humans And Humans It has long been acknowledged and recognised that humans differ greatly from the rest of the living world. Throughout the years, numerous theories encompassing the past and present development of living creatures have attempted to bridge the gap and produce a method in which we can categorise both humans and animals. These have contributed to radical conclusions including theories regarding humans as naturally superior and above other forms of life. This is a prevailing belief that is flawed through a scientific lens, as humans are indeed still animals. Through extensive scientific research, it is greatly supported that it is from primates with advanced dexterity and sentience which humans evolved. This is made evident through the common ... Opposable thumbs have shown an evolutionary advantage, as their development has provided humans with a range of purposes that have been beneficial to survival. Such benefits include, however are not limited to, the grasping and handling of objects that enabled the creation of weapons, as well as the operation and utilisation of tools and environmental resources. Another way to distinguish humans from other animals is through a cognitive viewpoint. The capacity of human cognition is unique when compared to other animals, and is most evidently seen through the ability to communicate via language. Finally, on the cultural measure, humans are unique and distinctive in their willingness to increase the chance of survival through limiting their offspring. What makes us humans? and What distinguishes us from other forms of life? are some general questions with which humans have always been concerned. Many philosophies have been constructed which shed light on the sequence of events that depict how humans came to be and their association with other animals. Aside from the apparent biological characteristics that humans and animals share, they also acquire traits that are to a degree, distinct from each other. An excellent biological example is the gift of evolution to mankind, the opposable thumb. The opposable thumb is of great value and use to humans. All of the procedures that Langdahls article has attempted was an anabolic treatment. They just need to figure out why the antiresorptive is coupling in the cathepsin k and sclerosis. Once they can solve why the matrix is coupling and get it approve Langdahl believe that this will be two new valuable tools for people who have osteoporosis. In this article, Langdahl thinks that once they fix the matrix of the cathepsin K and the sclerosin from coupling this will be very helpful for the bone mass and bone volume. • 13. Symbolism In The Divine Comedy Every arrangement of words seems to be an understatement when mentioning the success and influence of Dante s epic poem The Divine Comedy. An allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one (Oxford Dictionary). The Divine Comedy has provided inspiration for a large body of Western Art. Originally published in the 14th century, his medieval poem written in the vernacular language of the people has been the material for countless numbers of new editions containing illustrations. Each artist finds their own clever way to express the messages in The Divine Comedy. The amount of art dedicated to this epic poem is just as impressive as the poem itself. Inferno appears to be the most popular of the three books, especially in the visual arts. Dante s is a visual imagination (T.S. Elliot). Extremely detailed, the book describes Hell in the most powerful visual terms. In the Inferno, Dante and the poet Virgil go to Hell where they witness the many punishments for those who disobeyed God during their lives. Each layer of Hell, described in thirty three cantos and one introductory canto, is unique and fitting for the soul and the specific sin that was committed. (Web Gallery of Art, 2017) The most accurate representation of the structure of Dante s Hell, Sandro Botticelli is responsible for The Map of Hell, which depicts the nine circles of Hell. Described as a cave, the Map of Hell on paper is in the shape of a funnel with layers. Each layer is a level of Hell described by Dante. The levels get smaller and smaller until, at the bottom of the cave or funnel one sees a satanic like beast at the bottom or core. Starting with Limbo and ending with Treachery, each layer is drawn out in magnifying detail. Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, the Florentine was alive from around 1445 to 1510 (Florence Inferno, 2017). The man responsible for The Birth of Venus, a masterpiece that is referred to in both historical context and in pop culture, he was a very decadent and detailed artist. Many machines today can be programmed to communicate or even provide services that a human being could do, only do so flawlessly. While these advantages can be seen as something that can only benefit people, Turkle explains that the reality of this phenomenon must be taken into deeper consideration when concerning how this affects people psychologically. Turkle examination on the long lasting effects that technology can have on conversation begins with the story of an experience she had conversing with a school who worried that their students were beginning to lose empathy and find it difficult to connect or to make friends because they were raised not knowing a life without advanced technology or social media. Until, the United States bravely stepped in during 1917 to give a helping hand to allies while they were down for the count and went on to win World War one (Murrin et al. 620). Analysis Of Howard Zinn s The United States There is an underside to every age about which history does not often speak, because history is written from records left by the privileged. ― Howard Zinn, A People s History of the United States Zinn once remarked, Objectivity is impossible and it is also undesirable. That is, if it were possible it would be undesirable, because if you have any kind of a social aim, if you think history should serve society in some way; should serve the progress of the human race; should serve justice in some way, then it requires that you make your selection on the basis of what you think will advance causes of humanity (Flynn). It is pretty clear to the reader that Zinn believes that socialism and Communism are systems that advance the cause of humanity, and that America is a reactionary, terrorist state; those beliefs form the foundation of his tendentious and error ridden book. In A People s History of the United States, greed is the explanation for every major historical event. As we see in Zinn s book, just to name a few examples, the separation from Great Britain, the Civil War, and World Wars I and II were driven by motives involving rich Americans more or less seeking to improve themselves at the expenses of others. To me it seems that there is clearly a disparity between the promise and practice of democracy and capitalism in twentieth century America. The metaphor we speak of offered participation in something great. He was going to teach them to do the very thing he was going to preach about; he was going to do it with them. These men were fisherman who made a living by catching fish. The thought of catching men intrigued them so much that they left their nets and followed Jesus. Mitchell tells us that participation in life provides a message to experience with others. The End Of The Civil War After the Civil War, the fact that slavery was abolished might seem to be the end of the story; however, the problems derived from the abolishment of slavery had yet to be addressed. During the Reconstruction Era, these problems were reflected on the political, social, and economic aspects. Which played several major roles in shaping America from the late nineteenth into the twentieth centuries. These three aspects, political, social, and economical, affected one another so much that they were inseparable. The beginning leniency of Andrew Johnson all the way to the Confederates and later the political conflict between Johnson and the Radical Republicans, and lastly, the political struggle between Republicans and Democrats. It all resulted in the ever changing policies toward the freed people. These different policies had strong effects on the society, especially the freed people. Although some of the policies, such as the abolition of slavery and several Constitutional Amendments were beneficial to the rights of freed people, the sudden increase of freed people brought about the separation of black and white and many other social issues. Thus the real equality among people still had yet to be achieved. The economy also affected the society and the politics. What good is the freedom to own property, for example, if you have no money? Liberty without capacity, in the positive conception, is meaningless. Negative liberty is the first political value among many in the political philosophies in the English liberal tradition and in the liberal democracies they have shaped. In theocratic societies and in the European political philosophies of the counter Enlightenment, negative liberty is trivial; their ultimate political values vary by ideology from salvation to sharia to equality and liberty means having the conditions and capacity for the right values to flourish. Positive liberty always entails a concept of the good life; negative liberty assumes there are many good lives. What gave Berlin s ideas such sway was not the brilliance and novelty of the distinction between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Stockholm Syndrome Typology Stockholm Syndrome typically happens under a situation in which a victim is put under extreme duress; situations such as kidnapping and hostage taking, among other situations. When put under such duress, a victim will [typically] adjust themselves into survival mode ; in other words, they change their behavior to help them survive. One of these adjustments may end up to what they call Stockholm Syndrome. Stockholm Syndrome is when the victim acclimates to the situation and develops a positive relationship with their captor. Temporarily, in a hostage situation, this is great because a positive relationship between the two (or more) can help increase the time of the incident, which mean that the hostage may escaped unscathed. However, long term effects of Stockholm Syndrome could be detrimental. Long term effects include, ...Negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there are three main types of hostage takers that are dominant throughout the typologies. These three typologies would be the mentally ill hostage takers, criminal hostage takers, and the crusaders (social, political, religious, and ethnic). Firstly, there are the mentally ill hostage takers. Out of all of the three hostage takers, the mentally ill ones are the most common of the three. My throat closed up, the rawness rubbing along with air ways, clawing at my neck. I couldn t breathe, as I rolled over to my chest, coughing up the remains of dryness within my throat. My brown eyes raced around the unknown area. Calculating and taking in the overgrown lush forest and grass, with the bright skies above me. With a squinting gaze, I press my hands against the grass and dirt, the moisture transferring onto my hands. I once again looked around at the empty planes in front of me, trying to remember how I got here, alone. I racked my mind for any memories, any source that could answer the question that ... Sneakily, I weave my hand around the beast iron grip, to reach for the stick. It growled at my sudden movement, but I gripped the stick, swinging it back to force it off me. The beast reacted with a forceful growl, angry at my attempts to escape. I let out a long breath before I let out a battle cry, swinging the object to slash its face. The stick grazed the beast eye, blinding it in one eye. I took this to my advantage; kicking it in the chest as it whimpered to the ground by roared a loud and wind filled growl into the air, declaring war. • 30. Erikna Hayasaki Poverty This Is Your Brain On Poor Response In Erika Hayasaki s essay This Is Your Brain On Poor she talks about the effects that poverty and depravity have on the human mind. This is often an overlooked aspect when people study poverty and it s place in society but, it is incredibly important for helping those affected by poverty. Poverty and social inequality is an issue that America has been dealing with for as long as we have a nation. While some argue that poverty has no effect on the mind and mental development of those that grow up poor, I think Hayasaki s argument that the effects of poverty are very real and detrimental to a person s mind is much more sensible and realistic when examining the evidence brought with it. • 32. Power Hungry Athens Whose Fault Was it Anyway: The Power Hungry Athenians? If we do go to war, have no thought that you went to war over a trivial affair (Pericles, in Hunt 101¬). With a sudden rise to power after the end of the Persian War, Athens became a naval superpower in control of many other city states in the Delian alliance that struck fear into their rival, the Spartans, who believed that the Athenians might destroy Sparta s control over their own alliance. Becoming as powerful as Athens did, the city state became power hungry and led the Greeks into long years of turmoil, leading to the end of the Golden Age. They believ[ed] that their security depended on winning a competition for power (Hunt 79). Allied with city states from northern Greece, the islands of the Aegean Sea, and along the Ionian coast, this alliance was built on naval power. By controlling the seas and most coastal regions Athens created a global super power that could rival Sparta s alliance in size and strength, intimidating the other nation. It began as a democratic alliance... (Hunt 79), but Athens soon took complete control of the allies, because the city state was allowed to command and set up all of the league s financial arrangements for the naval fleet. Around three hundred city states paid dues according to its size to the Athenians, who in turn were in charge of how the dues were spent. Most of the dues that were not already paid in the form of triremes were spent on building the boat and paying the oarsmen. It was through this line of work and amount of income, gaining both income and political influence, that the poor citizens were eager to expand Athens s power over other Greeks (Hunt 80). • 33. Oxidative Stress Key Research Data and Analysis Key Research Data and Analysis Study 1: Ipc1 controls the Pkc1 activation by modulation of DAG Regulation of DAG and phytoceramide by Ipc1. When Wild type and GAL7::IPC1 strains were exposed to galactose and glucose, DAG (activator of PKC1) levels in the GAL7::IPC1 strain increased when IPC1 was induced by galactose, and decreased when IPC1 was repressed by glucose. Furthermore, phytoceramide levels were increased when IPC1 was down regulated by glucose in the GAL7::IPC1 strain. In both wild type strains, no change was seen when IPC1 was up or down regulated, as expected (Fig. 2). PKC1 activity in relation to DAG and Phytoceramide exposure. Since IPC1 regulates DAG and phytoceramide levels, the authors wanted to explore if DAG or phytoceramide can control PKC1 activity. DAG or phytoceramide were delivered in Triton x 100 lipid micelles and histone phosphorylation by recombinant PKC1 was measured in absence or presence of lipids. Without lipids, Pkc1 activity was 31.5 pmol/min/mg. When DAG subspecies were added, Pkc1 activity increased up to two fold (Fig. 3A). In order to make sure kinase activity measured was specific to Pkc1, APP1 activity was measured when exposed to DAG subspecies and as expected, did not cause phosphorylation of histone, which was expected (Fig. 3B). When phytoceramide lipids were added, Pkc1 activity decreased by about 50% compared to no phytoceramide, which was expected because phtyoceramide is an inhibitor of Pkc1 (Fig. 3C). Study 2: ...
