Computer Hackers and Ethics Essay
What comes to mind when you hear the word hacker ? For most it means stealing information through
the Internet, gaining illegal access to another person s PC, or simply disruptive behavior using a
computer. The subject of hacking is no secret to the general public. Many people have been exposed to
it by a bad experience or through the news and media. The idea of hacking that is stuck in the minds
of people is that of which they have seen in the movies. The movies portray hackers as young and
devious criminals. However, in reality these individuals are, talented people who use their abilities to
find new and challenging ways to change how computers work. According to the Cult of the Dead
Cow (weird name), a hacking organization, true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phreaker would cut a piece of stiff construction board about twelve inches long and three eighths
of an inch wide and slide into the dime slot as far as it would go. To make a call all you had to do was
pick up the phone, wait for a dial tone, and put a penny in the nickel slot. The phone would register
the penny as a dime and a free call could be made. Curiosity of how the phone worked led to an
interest in the computers that controlled the phones, which in turn led to hacking. Most of the earlier
computer break ins came from company employees seeking revenge or financial gain. For example, in
1971 disgruntled employees of the Honeywell Corporation disabled the Metropolitan Life computer
network for a month. And in 1973, a teller from the New York Dime Savings Bank was able to break
through the computer system and steal $1 million dollars. Though these were computer crimes, there
were also earlier hacks that were beneficial. One of the most successful hacks in history was that of
Apollo 13. When the astronauts were in space, they ran into some mechanical problems. The capsule
was spinning out of control. The astronauts were losing their air supply and it was getting colder and
colder. They were running out of time. Meanwhile, at the NASA headquarters in Houston, TX, one of

The Role Of Death In Bless Me Ultima
Life is full of cohesive decisions, nothing makes the facile. But the worst ones are your personal koans
and tormenting ambivalence is just the sense of satori rising. Eventually allowing a new sense of
understanding and openmindness towards life greatest questions. Throughout this novel Bless Me
Ultima B: Rodolfo Anaya Antonio is gradually tormented by his conflicting ideals directly caused by
the deaths of three figures. Each death has Antonio slowly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated in the novel (Anaya Page 22) It was to be said after one made his confession to the priest,
and as the last prayer before death. Did God listen? Would he hear? And where was Lupito s soul
winging to? . This proves to be a pivotal moment in the novel the backbone to the questions that cling
on to Antonio soul like an anchor that gradually drowns him in his search for answers to his
paradoxical questions. He starts to question God and whether he would forgive Lupito s actions or
send his soul to an eternity of damnation. This is a key aspect to evaluate as he starts to question
authority of the all supreme ruler which is ever so impressive coming from somebody as young as
Antonio who is still naïve and gullible to what the Catholic church tells him. Another example of how
death played a pivotal role in shaping his religious ambivalence we must look at the death of Narciso.
To give some perspective on to why Narciso death was so devastating for Antonio we must first look
at another character named Tenorio. The dynamic between Tenorio and Narciso is the classic Good vs
Evil matchup. Tenorio is introduced as the father of the town witches who cast a curse on Antonio s
Uncle. To make a long story short after the events of the curse transpire one of Tenorio s daughters die
and casts the blame on Ultima he starts to become consumed by hate and it sets him on a path of
vengeance. Narciso is far from the model hero having been cast in the

Colonialism And Poverty
The foremost cause of global poverty is colonialism. After Christopher Columbus discovered the new
world in 1492, Europeans invaded the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Today, these places are some
of the most affected by poverty. The poverty persists because the peoples of these places were killed
and enslaved. Their land, natural resources, and way of life were stolen by the colonizers. The
colonizers forced the colonies to shift from subsistence farming to cash crops, obliterating the natural
economy. Since they only grew cash crops, they were forced to buy European goods. The economy of
the colonies became locked and they became completely dependent on the colonizing country. Soon,
the colonies found themselves in debt to their colonizers. What little money these colonies were able
to make went to repay the debt, instead of going toward the development of the colony. Additionally,
since they were indebted to them, their colonizers had control over their economy. The creditors took
full advantage of this and forced the colonies to adopt neoliberalism and privatize companies and
resources, which plunged even more people into absolute poverty. Even when many of these colonies
became their own independent countries, the documentary mentioned that the debt was transferred
over to the new country, even though this was a violation of international law. This same system
continues to this day and everyday more and more people find themselves in poverty.
In my opinion, it is

Dietary Assessment Paper
There are several limitations to the dietary assessment, that could affect my diet quality both
positively and negatively:
1) According to my family s weekly grocery plan, the food consumption all 4 food categories is quite
approximate to the recommended amount by Canada s Food Guide (except grain products). The
sample size is too small for me to make a conclusion about my overall long term food habit.
2) Due to the flexibility of my schedule, the lunch and dinner times vary. This could probably worsen
my food habit due to possible binge eating (citation: international journal of eating disorder), and a
higher chance of choosing energy dense foods.
3) During school days, the food I consume will mainly be prepared by someone else, so it would

The Use Of Identity Experimentation By Robert Graves
1. Homosexuality is illegal in over seventy five countries all over the world. I personally grew up
thinking I was a mistake for being attracted to girls, and as a direct result of institutionalized
homophobia, I suffer through countless micro aggressions every day. When Robert Graves was my
age, he survived similar emotional trials due to being attracted to boys in the brutal British boarding
school environment, which is difficult if not impossible to recover from. Today, however, he is known
instead for his war service and prolific writings, and in his memoir, the soldiery is the main showcase.
His portrayal of identity experimentation can be interpreted as an example for how homosexuality was
and is treated. Graves autobiography is actually a testament to the subtler forms of bigotry. Within the
Charterhouse community, Graves provides examples of his reactions to homophobia, as well as the
later culmination of that internalized bigotry. As a queer person, he struggles with the harmful power
dynamic of predatory teachers and older boys, and as an intellectual, he expresses the similar struggle
of a desire to be accepted which are often the same assertions still on the lips of modern queer
activists.
2. Graves description of early, potentially traumatizing, experiences with women are essentially his
preamble to, and justification of, his later male love, seemingly subscribing to the idea of a situational
sexuality. At ten years old, he went with his sisters to their

The Mechanics And Technicality Based Conceptual...
Module three was probably the most complex modules that we have encountered this semester for me.
I viewed this module as the mechanics and technicality based conceptual understanding of consumer
behavior. We recognize that consumer behavior isn t just static, but is much more in tune with the
complexity that is the Human mind. This module to me represented the consumer coming to the final
stage of the consumption process and becoming aware that a final decision is eminent. When I look
back at my purchases I think how much went into buying an item or service and actually getting to
that point where I have made that final purchase. It s interesting the one thing that spurs my whole
consumption process is when I have told myself that I really want something, I need something, or I
have to have something. This self awareness is what even allows the consumer to know what
specifically they want to purchase. If we don t have this identifying behavior then product selection
ends up being a moot point. My purchases are filled with items that were to serve a specific need or
want. I usually identified this need and began the evaluative process. This process can be easily
influenced through a multitude of different situational characteristics that are both intended and
unintended. There are characteristics that the store or organization will try to put out and the portion
that comes from product and consumer habits. I think for me as I look at the products I buy and the
places I go

Statistical Significance, Power, and Effect Size: A Response to the Reexamination of Reviewer Bias
Bruce E. Wampold
Department of Educational Psychology University of Utah
Michael J. Furlong and Donald R. Atkinson
Graduate School of Education University of California, Santa Barbara
In responding to our study of the influence that statistical significance has on reviewers
recommendations for the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript for publication (Atkinson, Furlong,
Wampold, 1982), Fagley and McKinney (1983) argue that reviewers were justified in rejecting the
bogus study when nonsignificant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To detect a small experimental effect in the bogus study, for example, we would have had to increase
the sample size from 81 to 1,206, or 134 subjects

COMMENTS argument is that because the average effect size for published research was equivalent
to that of a medium effect, the reviewer s decision to reject the bogus manuscript under the
nonsignificant condition was reasonable. Further examination of the Haase et al. (1982) article and our
own analysis of published research, however, demonstrates that the power of the bogus study was
great enough to detect effect sizes that are typical of research published in JCP, which was our
intention when we designed the bogus study. First, although the median effect size (if) for all
univariate statistical tests, significant and nonsignificant, reported by Haase et al. (1982) was .083, this
index was steadily increasing at a rate of approximately .5% per year, so that the projected median if
in 1981 (the year our study was completed) would be .13. Importantly, an r)2 of .13 corresponds to an
effect size (/) of .39, which Cohen (1977) designates as a large effect. A further examination of the
Haase et al. (1982) data also lends support to our argument. Their analysis examined the strength of
association for 11,044 univariate statistical tests derived from only 701 manuscripts; thus, each
manuscript reported an average of more than 15 statistical tests. Since statistically significant and

Bernie Madoff Chapter Summaries
This book talks about how Bernie Madoff was a liar and a cheat to American society where people got
used betrayed and lied to because of him in belief they were going to becoming wealthy. Madoff was
the world s biggest thief that stole millions from people and destroyed numerous lives. He made
people believe they were going to get rich quick and that was his incentive on getting people to
participate in his schemes. The book reports how this crook used his legal business as a broker dealer
and his standing as an innovative creator of Nasdaq to attract investors and avoid harsh scrutiny from
the Securities and Exchange Commission. It described how he parlayed the reputations of a few
valued and respected investors and associates into large followings in high class communities like the
Upper East Side of Manhattan and Palm Beach, and how he used feeder funds, which drove clients
money to him, to extend his global reach. Some of Madoff s victims include faces of Hollywood and
the New York power elite. Kirtzman says Bernie Madoff had an appetite for risk and a concerning
superficial belief that he was invincible to consequences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seemed to mind that there was scant paperwork to go with his orders, or question why receipts were
being written on scraps of paper. No one was putting these pieces together and questioning whether
trades were being made at all. (Kirtzman, 51). These quotes from the book depict how smart educated
individuals could be so naive to his schemes. It goes to show how truly brilliant he

Beauty Of Climbing In Yosemite National Park
Beauty of Climbing
In the early days, you noticed El Cap, but we didn t pay much attention to it because it was kinda
quote unquote out of the question. Royal Robbins
A climber said this meaning there are things impossible to climb but if you dedicate enough time and
effort, you can do it. This was said by the first person to team and climb the west face and Salathe wall
of El Capitan. This shows any climber can do anything, you just have to work.
No matter how much or how little skill a rock climber has, climbing in Yosemite National Park can
give some amazing views, stories, a feel of the history. But to have these experiences the climber must
know climbing types.

making the first ascents up (the) certain face(s) of Washington Column, Half Dome, and the notorious
El Cap. Alex Honnold is notorious for scaling El Cap s nose in 2½ hours. He also scaled Yosemite
Triple Crown in 18 hours and 50 minutes. Then Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson free climbed
the Dawn wall which was the first time this had ever happened. It was deemed impossible to do, yet it
was completed. But there are still so many challenges not yet completed in Yosemite. There is so
much to climb, it is just beautiful. So many people go hiking and see this beauty, but when you rock

can do what what others don t dare. But along with this excitement, people that want to experience

The Decline Of Christianity In Twentieth Century Europe
The Decline of Christianity in Europe
The twentieth century was a time of great flux and anxiety in Europe as the supremacy of Christianity
in Europe was being challenged by the fronts of biblical criticism, and evolution. According to Rev,
Andrew Greeley, a social sciences professor at the University of Chicago, belief in God has increased
in Russia and Hungary and decreased in Britain, the Netherlands, western Germany and France.
Atheism thrives in eastern Germany, Russia, The Czech Republic and France. Interestingly though,
most European countries report denominational affiliation. According to Dr Greeley, there was a time
when people were more religious than they are now. Secularizers like to point to the decline as ...

Darwin argued that those individuals that are well suited to their environment survive, prosper and
give birth to new individuals that share their characteristics, while those less suited will die out. Any
new characteristics with which an individual is born are likely to be passed on if it is useful. Species
evolve and develop in a process that is not random, or determined by God, but instead follows natural
laws (Towns). The theory of evolution contradicted fundamental Christian beliefs about humanity and
sin. In 1871, Darwin published the Descent of Man, in which he argued that human beings evolved
naturally from lower creatures stating that not only does life itself follow natural laws but also the
human mind and soul are not some supernatural element breathed into the body by God. By
eliminating God, Darwin was saying that they evolved from nothing thus eliminating the most
important element, God. (Hill). The theory of evolution denied the direct creation of man by God and
the greatest damage came from the application of that theory to the development of religion.
Darwinism was born. God and the Bible were looked upon as the evolutionary

detail what the client does in their daily life, the environments in which the activities are done, their

Due to the addition of engagement this promotes the understanding that the client can find satisfaction
in engaging with occupations without performing them. It falls within the Person Environment
Occupation Framework this is due to the focus on the influences and connections of the person and

assigning the focus on the client s needs and wants, this creates the understanding that the client is the
person who knows their life best and understands their occupational performance concerns, therefore
denoting the role of the occupational therapist is not to carry out treatment or intervention on a client
but with a client (Ikiugu, 2007) The CMOP E places spirituality at the centre of the person, this is
because it is believed that a person s spirituality is where their motivation and self concept flow from,
through occupations spirituality can be found and expressed.

Home Ownership Of The Housing Bubble Crisis
A home is the biggest purchase and investment one can make in their lifetime. For decades, home
ownership has been silver plated with the aura of the American Dream. However, the lending crisis
and meltdown of 2008 in real estate prices across the nation took away the luster off that American
Dream for many. Now however, after reflecting from past mistakes, homeownerswho lost their homes
in the housing bubble crisis realize it takes a lot to obtain the American dream and are eager to reenter
into the home market as buyers. These boomerang buyers might just benefit withthe option of rent to
own amongst other options. Advantages to Boomerang Home Buyers Although many homeowners
were affected and lost almost everything, there s hope for them to move forward with the rent to own
option. This lets the buyer commit to an agreement with a willing seller to lease the property until they
can buy it. The rent to own option is appealing for boomerang buyers with many different
backgrounds. The option suits people who do not have a strong credit rating and therefore not
qualified to get a mortgage from their bank. Since qualification guidelines have become more
stringent, this helps out buyers who would have a hard time qualifying because individual sellers who
opt to entertain the rent to buy option would not be as demanding or strict as compared to lending
institutions.Rent to own appeals to those who do not have enough money for a down payment since it

A framework of sustainable supply chain management: moving toward new theory
Craig R. Carter and Dale S. Rogers
University of Nevada, College of Business Administration, Reno, Nevada, USA
Abstract
Purpose The authors perform a large scale literature review and use conceptual theory building to
introduce the concept of sustainability to the field of supply chain management and demonstrate the
relationships among environmental, social, and economic performance within a supply chain
management context. Design/methodology/approach Conceptual theory building is used to develop a
framework and propositions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, a review of the literature will show that the term sustainability has been inconsistently
defined and applied in the extant research. This lack of an explicit consideration of economic criteria
in current models and definitions of LSR and PSR, and the failure to consistently define sustainability
and to apply the concepts of sustainability to the field of supply chain management, lead to the
following research questions: RQ1. How can the term sustainability be defined and applied to supply
chain management? RQ2. Is there a relationship between the integration of the concepts of
sustainability and supply chain management, and long term economic success? More specifically, do
firms which engage in sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices attain higher economic
performance than firms which concentrate solely on economic performance? The answers to these
research questions will help to clarify and begin to defuse the debate surrounding the relationship
between environmental and social performance on one hand, and economic performance on the other.
As noted by Hoffman and Bazerman (2005, p. 16):
The key to resolving this debate is the recognition that (social and environmental) behaviors are

Ned Kelly, A Hero Or A Villain
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather a hero
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain due to his violent and bloodthirsty behavior throughout his life. Even
as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the
crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang
leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly s trouble with the law quickly
escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock theft to police killer.
Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did
not receive a normal childhood and was instead meddling with the law. The Kelly s were often in
trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was arrested
and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a
young age, Ned Kelly was already known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain.
Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869, Ned was alleged of
being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some
robberies. Due to these interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world
of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and
also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly s criminal actions didn t end there. On the 15th
of April, 1878, Kelly shot at Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick in the wrist after he became too friendly
with his sister Kate. Kelly s crime rate was endless.Later the Kelly gang led by their leader Ned Kelly,
committed some major robberies in the National Bank branches at Euroa and Jerilderie. At Jerilderie,
the gang even held police and civilians hostage while stealing all the money from the bank s vaults.
Ned Kelly s early life was corrupted in crime with theft and assault and added towards his increase in
villainy.
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather than a hero due to his barbaric actions at Stringybark Creek.
Stringybark Creek was the new hiding point for the Kelly gang. On the 26th of October

Additionally, you made an extremely interesting point about migrant farm workers who are in the

Snow Country Analysis
Snow Country A place or Emotional and Psychological state. Snow country is a place in a Western
Japanese country, which we can consider as the setting of this novel. The expression does not mean
where snow falls. Though an area, Y. Kawabata, the writer of the book writes in such a way that it
portrays more about a love affair, human feelings, emotions, loneliness, and a state of a person in
isolation. Likewise, the novel reveals how a human relationship can be complicated and arduous at
times to understand. It tells about people in a relationship of love, trying to love, and connect to one
another, but difficult to compare. The closer they are, the more both parties try to know each other,
and the more they found out that they do not. Such is the case of the relationship between these
parties: Shimamura and Komako, Shimamura and Yoko, and a love triangle between Yukio, Komako,
and Yoko. An affair of the moment, no more. Nothing beautiful about it. You know that it couldn t last

Examples Of Multilingualism In Half Of A Yellow Sun
Half of a Yellow Sun, is a novel written by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The time
frame is the 1960s during the country s Nigerian Biafran War to establish an independent republic and
the chilling violence that followed. Indeed, published in 2006, the novel tells the story of the Nigerian
civil war also known as the Biafran war through the perspective of the characters Olanna, Ugwu, and
Richard... Biafra was a secessionist state in south eastern Nigeria that existed from 30 May 1967 to 15
January 1970 and the inhabitants are mostly Igbo people. That is to say that there are many ethnic
groups in Nigeria. Therefore, each ethnic group has its own language before English. Then, characters

My Family Holiday
Today was going to be one of the most irritating days for my family and we didn t know it. We
thought our family holiday was going great, there hadn t been any arguments that cause my mother to
say, That s it, pack everything!, I ve had enough, we re going back home . Even if she had said that,I
would highly doubt that she would have packed the car to drive ten hours back home. The last full day
of our trip was today, so we decided to visit friends of my parents, Bruce and Martha. Their house was
around an hour away from the caravan park, so we started preparing for our mini trip, finally about
half an hour later, we were ready to leave. We climb into our petite black car and set off driving along
the little road out of the site.Driving along happily looking out the window at all the brightly fresh
green grassed fields catching a glance of the mixture of cars pass by my window. As we near our
destination, we turn off up this little road that led us beneath a large bridge. The road had a slight twist
and my stomach felt like a field of butterflies. Around a sharp bend, Into sight I noticed a sign that
reads Welcome to Portsmouth . My father s face looked astonished as he saying aloud I m surprised
we made it, without any problems , well he spoke to soon. Around the corner, I noticed a few run
down pubs and restaurants, reaching a set of traffic lights and of course we ended up getting stop at
the red light. It felt like everyone and their Grandmother got through except

My Personal Social Identity Project
In preparation for doing ethnographic research, it is crucial that one understands not only what
ethnography is and how it relates to its audience, but also how one s own identities influence the
research taking place. For these reasons, this Digital Culture Project will focus on, among other things,
what ethnography is and its relationship to various media as well as self ethnography and realizing its
importance when conducting ethnographic research. Additionally, my personal social identity will be
examined and reflected upon. First and foremost, an understanding must be had of what ethnography
is. To define ethnography, I will defer to Ellen Isaacs, a corporate ethnographer for Xerox PARC, who

Ruth Behar, in her book, The Vulnerable Observer, humorously claims that nothing is stranger than
this business of humans observing other humans in order to write about them, so naturally, presenting
the information gathered through such observations can be seen as something of a challenge for
ethnographers (Behar, 5). While many ethnographers have continued using literal media to present
their research, others have taken to digital media in new and effective ways. Fortunately, with the
growing presence and accessibility of computer technology, ethnography and the digital media have
become increasingly intertwined in their use. Arguably, the most effective ethnographic research
incorporates new media and technologies into how its narratives are portrayed. According to
Underberg and Zorn, ethnography that uses a diverse set of media such as videos, photographs, or
digital media to communicate multisensory experience[s] and knowledge is known as multisensory
ethnography (Underberg and Zorn, 18 19). In using various media to present research, not only are
ethnographers able to have more control over how their audience perceives their findings, but they
also make those findings more accessible to audiences of all ages. For example, a two hundred page
book documenting a year spent in the villages of sub Saharan Africa is largely appealing only to those

Exploring the Factors Contributing to the Development of the Cold War There were several factors
which led to the development of the Cold War. In this essay I will discuss the disagreement over
Poland and Truman s personality.
Disagreement over how Poland should be governed was a very important factor in the development of
the Cold War. Churchill, Britain and Roosevelt, USA wanted Poland to be democratic whereas Stalin
wanted to make sure that Poland s new government was friendly towards the USSR. The Yalta

This clash of ideas was important as it harmed the relation between the countries, and therefore led to
a Cold War developing. The British and the Americans were also horrified by Russia s behaviour
regarding the Warsaw uprising. When the London Poles (the anti Soviet potential government)
decided to seize control of part of Poland, the Soviet army did nothing to help them although they
were very close. As a result, it was brutally destroyed by the Germans and almost 300,000 Poles were
killed in the process. Again, this harmed the relation between Britain and America and the USSR. At
Yalta, they tried to resolve the problems concerning the government of Poland and Polish land. The
borders of Poland were altered without too much problem and it was agreed that the Lublin
government in Poland was to be expanded to include some London Poles as well and that free
elections would be held as soon as possible. However, this was not put into practice; Stalin only talked
about bringing non communists into Poland without carrying it out and Molotov, the Foreign Minister
rejected the idea of letting the London Poles have a significant role in the government. This led to
extreme disappointment because people had thought that Stalin would allow western style
governments to be set up in Eastern Europe and it also meant that people lost

Positive Aspects Of Voluntourism
Vacationers choosing to spend their limited holiday time and vacation budget journeying across the
world to perform volunteer service are a very recent concept. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with
such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators
are scrambling to match many different agendas. I believe voluntourism is a great way to make you
feel good, and make others happy. For the person who chooses to do this, it is a vacation length
commitment of time, personal energy, possibly a special skill, and money. Motivation of volunteer
vacationers is rarely to accumulate career building credentials or academic credits and kudos. In fact,
many voluntourists deliberately select a project about which they are unapologetically without skill so
they can learn something new. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which they sign up. If the experience is positive, they also tend to donate more to the project once they

Fahrenheit 451 And 1984
Several conflicting frames of mind have played defining roles in shaping humanity throughout the
twentieth century. Philosophical optimism of a bright future held by humanity in general was taken
advantage of by the promise of a better life through sacrifice of individuality to the state. In the books
Brave New World, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451 clear opposition to these subtle entrapments was voiced
in similarly convincing ways. They first all established, to varying degrees of balance, the atmosphere
and seductiveness of the utopia and the fear of the consequences of acting in the non prescribed way
through character development. A single character is alienated because of their inability to conform
often in protest to the forced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When these and other questions weigh upon his mind he begins to realize that something is
fundamentally wrong with the world he is living in. In Brave New World the main character, Bernard,
is set apart from society by physical differences, which, in a society of engineered people is extremely
inhibiting. It is these defects which cause him to look for a deeper meaning than the drug induced
happiness forced upon him. These characters, although alienated in the novels, are believable and
rational. The acts of their questioning in their search for the truth and real emotion persuade the reader
to do the same thing. It is in this manner that the utility of these novels becomes apparent; through the
demands they make of the reader personally a superior social commentary, one that demands
interaction, is born.
The characters struggles to hide their newly found individuality is a futile one. In Orwell s
interpretation of the totalitarian state of 1984, the society is technically and urbanly engineered to spy
on and perceive people s very thoughts. The society justifies these invasions by eliminating the
importance of the individual. The constant barrage of information regarding the greatness of the state
and Big Brother s supremacy over the common man forces everyone (in good mental health) to accept
these as the only unchanging facts. Any deviation from these beliefs would be immediately noticeable,

The Requirements For Home Area Network Security
Abstract:
The main objective of this document is to create and analyze the requirement for home area network
security. Security set up balance is always required against the risk being moderated. As HAN is
related to the households there is a little interest paid to the home area network security. Earlier the
threats for the HAN were other malicious programs and viruses. Now in this modern world with the
invention of wireless networking, broadband and convergence of various communication technologies
which has been implemented by HANs, these vulnerabilities have increased more. Public has a very
less knowledge on theft of personal information, hacking of credit cards and they are not going to
affect them a lot. Thus this document illustrates the present and future technology of home area
network security and how is it going to affect and also some of the security measures for home area
network.
1. Introduction:
In this modern era, everyone has a computer and has an internet connection. The benefits that go with
networking and the interconnection of computers have made a lot of impact into an average
household. Home area network is referred as the downward pricing trend of the personal computers

Three Values of Greek Society in the Odyssey Essay
The world is full of wonders, but nothing is more wonderful than man. This quote shows that the
Greeks valued themselves, but also their intellect in which they know that the world about them is
great. The Greeks valued beauty, art, intellect, honor, and truth; the list is long. Some of these values
are shown through the story of the Odyssey, which tells of the adventures of Odysseus and his family.
In order to understand Greek values and how they are portrayed in Greek society, one must examine
how some values are portrayed in the Odyssey: hospitality, intellect, and beauty. In Greek society,
hospitality is really important. The Greeks strongly believed in their gods, and they always wanted to
be prepared if one came knocking at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a lack of hospitality was when Odysseus and his men came upon the Kyklopes , and
the one eyed monsters treated them terribly. On first sight they tried to kill Odysseus and all his men.
The Greeks also valued intelligence and intellect. Although there were certain areas in Greece that
valued it more than others, such as Athens, the Greeks were generally an intelligent race of people. An
example from the Odyssey is when Penelope (Odysseus wife, Telemakhos mother) tells her suitors
that she needs to finish weaving a shroud for an old man before she marries. She proceeds to weave on
her loom every day, but unravels it during the night, so that she will never have to marry. Another
example is when Odysseus finally arrives home, and he disguises himself so he can question people
about his home and the situation, all without being noticed. In this way he gained information without
revealing himself. Another important Greek value is beauty. The Greeks strived for the idealistic form
in everything they did: art, literature, beauty, and even in the sciences. The Odyssey portrays Penelope
to be an older woman, but a beautiful older woman, having a hall full of suitors wanting to marry her.
Another example is when Athena changes Odysseus appearance in certain situations, usually making
Odysseus look young and less hardened by all his traveling. A more detailed description of this is
when Odysseus

Nypro has an organizational structure that facilitated aggressive internal competition. Its successes and
apparent valuable contribution to company s results and innovation pursuits is largely attributed to the
leadership of George Lankton who imbibes the competitive spirit and eventually trickled this down to
the project teams and location managers. Nypro s internal competition supports the company s
innovation thrust for the following reasons:
1) High performance standards. Internal competitions competition brought to fore a very high
awareness and constant focus to performance statistics. These performance statistics are compared
within groups within the same plant and vis a vis those of other plants. Understandably, teams would
want to attain the best scores or performance ratings as possible within the organization without
compromising company values and objectives.
2) Because performance evaluation utilized the element of competition, groups and individuals are
motivated to contribute to overall company innovation and improvement because of expectations of
incentives (stock programs, internal company recognition, etc).
3) Customer focus and continuous improvement. Nypro s plant and CIT teams will be able to

Homeless Life In The Homeless
Growing up, I was fortunate to live a comfortable life. My parents were both college educated and had
well paying jobs at Boeing in St. Louis. My three siblings and I lived in a good neighborhood in one
of the top school districts in the state, and we had everything we needed: three meals every day, our
supplies for school, and the ability to take part in sports and other extra curricular activities throughout
the year. Living in that neighborhood, however, skewed my view of how the world worked. While I
understood that there were people who were homeless and struggled just to get one meal each day, I
didn t comprehend the sheer amount of people, just in St. Louis alone, who fell into that category.
When I was about 7 or 8 though, a group of us from our church visited a homeless shelter to bring
food. Our goal was to help out in any way we could as part of a community service day we had
established. Because of the culture shock I experienced upon arriving, visiting that homeless shelter
for the first time changed my view of the world by informing me of the homeless epidemic in the
United States, and changed my mindset to give back to people less fortunate.
Like any young kid going through life, I wanted the world! If my friends got a new gaming system or

the poem She Walks in the Beauty Byron describes his mystery women similar to this. In the first

her beauty is one shade the more, one ray the less meaning that her beauty is perfectly balanced. The

Diego Velázquez s Las Meninas
Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez is depicted as a group portrait of Spanish King Philip IV (8 April
1605 17 September 1665) at the Habsburg court. The painting well demonstrates Velázquez s painting
techniques that can be recognized by dramatic mood, rich color and extreme contrast between light
and dark. It is absolutely extraordinary and implies influences Velázquez has had, especially Flemish
Baroque realism. Velázquez had a deeper ambition in his mind when creating this masterpiece. He
wanted to earn the title that can ensure him a high position in society. So, Velázquez had this desire for
an aristocratic title better than any other single court positions he could get.

were looking for jobs that a men didn t like to do, so women would take over.
Many women took jobs that men did not want such as cooking, cleaning and running the household.
Women also got jobs in textile mills, working machinery that made clothing. Many women were

ABSTRACT
The term supply chain defines the combined efforts of different organization in reaching of a product
to the end user. The concept of Supply Chain Management lies in the idea of maximizing the customer

INTRODUCTION Every product or service goes through several processes and steps before reaching
the customer. When a company makes a product from raw materials bought from a supplier and sell it
to a customer then, there is a supply chain in place (Murray, 2014).Each product has a different series
of steps that transform the raw materials into finished products, events in the supply chain lead to this
conversion. Supply chain represents the flow of information and finances also and not just materials.
Here, information means the knowledge of delivery dates and stock updates. Materials flow in the
direction of the supply chain while finances flow in the opposite direction and information flows in
both the directions (Renganathan, 2014). Supply chain management can be defined as the things that
are done to influence the supply chain in order to get the desired results with competence in the best
interest of the market being served (Basic Concepts of Supply chain Management). Each supply chain
has its unique set of demands and challenges which vary depending upon the size of the business and
the product itself.
ELEMENTS OF SUPPLY CHAIN There is a basic outline to the exercise of supply chain
management. It involves several elements that help in the movement of the product or service from the
manufacturer to the customer. The elements involved are customer, planning, purchasing, inventory,
production and transportation.

Repercussions In Sports
This article focuses on the severity of contact sport related injuries, more specifically head injuries and
concussions. This has been a hot top throughout many different professional organizations and it is
often discussed how each organization should handle these types of injuries. More recently they have
began to administer tests before each season so that when a head related injury occurs, team doctors
can more easily determine whether or not the athlete should return to the field and when the
appropriate time to do so is. Since the repercussions of allowing an athlete to return to quickly to play
can leave long term consequences, professional, college, and even high school teams have begun to
take these injuries more seriously by administering these tests. These tests are given before the season
starts ensuring that there has been no injury to the athletes head. After the season starts, if there is
some type of injury related to the head the athlete is given the test at three different times. These times
are 24 hours after injury, 5 days after injury and 10 days after injury. For the most part, the athletes are
back at their original test results from before the season started, during the 5 to 10 day span after the
injury occurred. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Canadian Boarding Schools Case Study
Both in American and in Canadian boarding school systems, European ways of behavior and thinking
became the standards in all aspects of life. Children could speak only in English, and they studied, for
instance, history from a biased, European point of view, and their own cultures were constantly
rejected and attacked (Haig Brown 77, 90).
In Canada, until the 1940s, children participated in classes dedicated to academic subjects for no
longer than two hours a day (Haig Brown 90). They spent the rest of the day with religious training
and work. The program for civilizing Aboriginal children included teaching them skills required for
gardening, farming, cooking, sewing and cleaning, which resulted in the fact that the students
maintained their schools. Moreover, sometimes the schools even gained profit from the work of the
children. It is also important to mention that even if students experienced all aspects of proper
housekeeping through domestic training, there was a strong contrast between Native homes and the
school buildings they worked in. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if boarding schools in the U.S. were under the control of the federal government and Canadian
residential schools were operated together with missionary societies, to Christianize Native children
was crucial in both systems. The major part of the U.S. s BIA employees, being Christians, understood
Christianity as a mark of civilization (Dawson 82). Therefore, religious training played an important
role in educating Native students both in the U.S. and in Canada. According to the Meriam Report,
religious education of American Indians was unsuccessful because most missionaries knew little of
Native religion or life and they believed that it was necessary to destroy what the Indian people had,
instead of using it as a starting point for something else (Meriam

The two indices under study are the S amp;P Nifty and Sensex. This study conducts a statistical
analysis of the daily and monthly data for both Nifty and Sensex for the period April 1, 2001 to

Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION
Capital market is now playing a strategic role in a country s economic growth. It facilitates the
exchange of funds between company as demander and investor as supplier. The existence of capital
market enables company to obtain an alternative source of fund. On the other hands, it gives flexibility
for investor to choose investment based on their preference. For both company and investor who are
involved in the capital market, understanding about capital market condition becomes matter in order
to understand how the market is actually works. One aspect of capital market conditions that might
become consideration before deciding to invest is the market efficiency. The term of market efficiency,
which is found in the capital market literature, is used to elaborate the relationship between the
information and the share price. In 1970, Fama proposed the Efficient Market Theory and defined
capital market efficiency as the market in which prices fully reflect all available information.

Arguments Against Veganism
Ever since the beginning of time, man has hunted and consumed animals for survival. Because of this,
it is been taught for millennials that meat is an essential to our bodies for survival and health. While
we are capable of eating meat, the question is, should we? Firstly, humans do not need to eat meat, or
any other animal products for that matter, for survival. Modern day humans are not living in the same
conditions as early humans were, making it unnecessary for us to consume animal products. We no
longer need to rely on animals for consumption, and in fact, it is actually best to leave them absent
from your diet. Numerous amounts of studies have been conducted that support the claim that
consuming animal products is detrimental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most common arguments is that our ancestors ate it, so so should we. Humans have had
omnivorous diets since the beginning of mankind, and this has been an argument that is oftenly used
against veganism. Early humans were scavengers and ate whatever they could find for the purpose of
survival and it is believed that humans ate a majority of meat, however scientific studies have shown
otherwise. In a study conducted, plant derived fiber was the majority of what was found in early
human feces (nutritionfacts.org). Vegaprocity (vegaprocity.com) shows that both carnivores and
omnivores require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, while all herbivores, frugivores, and humans do
require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, however in America, usually less than half the recommended fiber
intake a day is consumed (nutritionfacts.org). While there is no denial that early humans did not hunt
and eat animals, this suggests that the majority of what was ate ate was not meat, but in fact plants and
herbs. When compared to carnivores, humans show more similarity to herbivores and frugivores. One
of the common arguments used in opposition to veganism is that humans are supposed to eat meat
because the mechanism of our body suggest so. This, however, is false. When compared to carnivores
and herbivores, humans share far more similarities with herbivores. To begin with, humans have short
and soft

What Is Thomas Jefferson s Role In Drafting The Constitution
Thomas Jefferson is considered one of the most important people in United States History. He was the
third president, and he even drafted the Declaration of Independence. Many think he also had a
significant role in drafting the U.S. Constitution as well. This just happens to be incorrect. Jefferson
was away in France during the summer of 1787 when this important document was being drafted. He,
however, was still slightly involved, but he put the majority of his efforts in the foreign affairs that
were going on at the time. Because of his efforts overseas to the United States and the other Ministers,
Jefferson had little to do with the Constitution but to give his position on the matter.
Serving the United States
During the time the Constitution was being drafted, Thomas Jefferson was overseas in Paris serving as
the Minister to France. That today is equivalent to an ambassador. There ... Show more content on

One would think that he was in full support of the new Constitution, but that was not the case.
Jefferson was sure that the federal Constitution was not close to the excellence it needed to be. He was
sure to make this view and others clear on the matter in the letters that he sent to the members of the
convention over the time span that the Constitution was being drafted. ( One of the most intriguing
might have beens in American History , 2016) Jefferson says in a letter to William S. Smith that there
are some good and some bad articles within the content of the Constitution draft (Jefferson to William
Stephens Smith , 2016). Here, he shows his concerns with the content of the Constitution. If it was not
to hold superb content, Jefferson knew that the United States would be back to where they started with
the Articles of Confederation. If one does not improve on what was the past, then how is the new any
better? This was his whole

For most it means stealing information through the Internet, gaining illegal access to another person s PC, or simply disruptive behavior using a computer. The subject of hacking is no secret to the general public. Many people have been exposed to it by a bad experience or through the news and media. The idea of hacking that is stuck in the minds of people is that of which they have seen in the movies. The movies portray hackers as young and devious criminals. However, in reality these individuals are, talented people who use their abilities to find new and challenging ways to change how computers work. The phreaker would cut a piece of stiff construction board about twelve inches long and three eighths of an inch wide and slide into the dime slot as far as it would go. To make a call all you had to do was pick up the phone, wait for a dial tone, and put a penny in the nickel slot. The phone would register the penny as a dime and a free call could be made. Curiosity of how the phone worked led to an interest in the computers that controlled the phones, which in turn led to hacking. Most of the earlier computer break ins came from company employees seeking revenge or financial gain. For example, in 1971 disgruntled employees of the Honeywell Corporation disabled the Metropolitan Life computer network for a month. And in 1973, a teller from the New York Dime Savings Bank was able to break through the computer system and steal $1 million dollars. Though these were computer crimes, there were also earlier hacks that were beneficial. One of the most successful hacks in history was that of Apollo 13. When the astronauts were in space, they ran into some mechanical problems. The capsule was spinning out of control. The astronauts were losing their air supply and it was getting colder and colder. They were running out of time. Would he hear? And where was Lupito s soul winging to? . This proves to be a pivotal moment in the novel the backbone to the questions that cling on to Antonio soul like an anchor that gradually drowns him in his search for answers to his paradoxical questions. He starts to question God and whether he would forgive Lupito s actions or send his soul to an eternity of damnation. This is a key aspect to evaluate as he starts to question authority of the all supreme ruler which is ever so impressive coming from somebody as young as Antonio who is still naïve and gullible to what the Catholic church tells him. Another example of how death played a pivotal role in shaping his religious ambivalence we must look at the death of Narciso. To give some perspective on to why Narciso death was so devastating for Antonio we must first look at another character named Tenorio. The dynamic between Tenorio and Narciso is the classic Good vs Evil matchup. Tenorio is introduced as the father of the town witches who cast a curse on Antonio s Uncle. To make a long story short after the events of the curse transpire one of Tenorio s daughters die and casts the blame on Ultima he starts to become consumed by hate and it sets him on a path of vengeance. • 4. Colonialism And Poverty The foremost cause of global poverty is colonialism. After Christopher Columbus discovered the new world in 1492, Europeans invaded the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Today, these places are some of the most affected by poverty. The poverty persists because the peoples of these places were killed and enslaved. Their land, natural resources, and way of life were stolen by the colonizers. The colonizers forced the colonies to shift from subsistence farming to cash crops, obliterating the natural economy. Since they only grew cash crops, they were forced to buy European goods. The economy of the colonies became locked and they became completely dependent on the colonizing country. Soon, the colonies found themselves in debt to their colonizers. What little money these colonies were able to make went to repay the debt, instead of going toward the development of the colony. Additionally, since they were indebted to them, their colonizers had control over their economy. The creditors took full advantage of this and forced the colonies to adopt neoliberalism and privatize companies and resources, which plunged even more people into absolute poverty. Even when many of these colonies became their own independent countries, the documentary mentioned that the debt was transferred over to the new country, even though this was a violation of international law. This same system continues to this day and everyday more and more people find themselves in poverty. In my opinion, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dietary Assessment Paper There are several limitations to the dietary assessment, that could affect my diet quality both positively and negatively: 1) According to my family s weekly grocery plan, the food consumption all 4 food categories is quite approximate to the recommended amount by Canada s Food Guide (except grain products). The sample size is too small for me to make a conclusion about my overall long term food habit. 2) Due to the flexibility of my schedule, the lunch and dinner times vary. This could probably worsen my food habit due to possible binge eating (citation: international journal of eating disorder), and a higher chance of choosing energy dense foods. 3) During school days, the food I consume will mainly be prepared by someone else, so it would ... • 6. The Use Of Identity Experimentation By Robert Graves 1. Homosexuality is illegal in over seventy five countries all over the world. I personally grew up thinking I was a mistake for being attracted to girls, and as a direct result of institutionalized homophobia, I suffer through countless micro aggressions every day. When Robert Graves was my age, he survived similar emotional trials due to being attracted to boys in the brutal British boarding school environment, which is difficult if not impossible to recover from. Today, however, he is known instead for his war service and prolific writings, and in his memoir, the soldiery is the main showcase. His portrayal of identity experimentation can be interpreted as an example for how homosexuality was and is treated. Graves autobiography is actually a testament to the subtler forms of bigotry. Within the Charterhouse community, Graves provides examples of his reactions to homophobia, as well as the later culmination of that internalized bigotry. As a queer person, he struggles with the harmful power dynamic of predatory teachers and older boys, and as an intellectual, he expresses the similar struggle of a desire to be accepted which are often the same assertions still on the lips of modern queer activists. 2. Graves description of early, potentially traumatizing, experiences with women are essentially his preamble to, and justification of, his later male love, seemingly subscribing to the idea of a situational sexuality. At ten years old, he went with his sisters to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Mechanics And Technicality Based Conceptual... Module three was probably the most complex modules that we have encountered this semester for me. I viewed this module as the mechanics and technicality based conceptual understanding of consumer behavior. We recognize that consumer behavior isn t just static, but is much more in tune with the complexity that is the Human mind. This module to me represented the consumer coming to the final stage of the consumption process and becoming aware that a final decision is eminent. When I look back at my purchases I think how much went into buying an item or service and actually getting to that point where I have made that final purchase. It s interesting the one thing that spurs my whole consumption process is when I have told myself that I really want something, I need something, or I have to have something. This self awareness is what even allows the consumer to know what specifically they want to purchase. If we don t have this identifying behavior then product selection ends up being a moot point. My purchases are filled with items that were to serve a specific need or want. I usually identified this need and began the evaluative process. This process can be easily influenced through a multitude of different situational characteristics that are both intended and unintended. There are characteristics that the store or organization will try to put out and the portion that comes from product and consumer habits. I think for me as I look at the products I buy and the places I go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To detect a small experimental effect in the bogus study, for example, we would have had to increase the sample size from 81 to 1,206, or 134 subjects 459 460 COMMENTS argument is that because the average effect size for published research was equivalent to that of a medium effect, the reviewer s decision to reject the bogus manuscript under the nonsignificant condition was reasonable. Further examination of the Haase et al. (1982) article and our own analysis of published research, however, demonstrates that the power of the bogus study was great enough to detect effect sizes that are typical of research published in JCP, which was our intention when we designed the bogus study. First, although the median effect size (if) for all univariate statistical tests, significant and nonsignificant, reported by Haase et al. (1982) was .083, this index was steadily increasing at a rate of approximately .5% per year, so that the projected median if in 1981 (the year our study was completed) would be .13. Importantly, an r)2 of .13 corresponds to an effect size (/) of .39, which Cohen (1977) designates as a large effect. A further examination of the Haase et al. (1982) data also lends support to our argument. Their analysis examined the strength of association for 11,044 univariate statistical tests derived from only 701 manuscripts; thus, each manuscript reported an average of more than 15 statistical tests. For decades, home ownership has been silver plated with the aura of the American Dream. However, the lending crisis and meltdown of 2008 in real estate prices across the nation took away the luster off that American Dream for many. Now however, after reflecting from past mistakes, homeownerswho lost their homes in the housing bubble crisis realize it takes a lot to obtain the American dream and are eager to reenter into the home market as buyers. This lack of an explicit consideration of economic criteria in current models and definitions of LSR and PSR, and the failure to consistently define sustainability and to apply the concepts of sustainability to the field of supply chain management, lead to the following research questions: RQ1. How can the term sustainability be defined and applied to supply chain management? RQ2. Is there a relationship between the integration of the concepts of sustainability and supply chain management, and long term economic success? More specifically, do firms which engage in sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) practices attain higher economic performance than firms which concentrate solely on economic performance? The answers to these research questions will help to clarify and begin to defuse the debate surrounding the relationship between environmental and social performance on one hand, and economic performance on the other. Even as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly s trouble with the law quickly escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock theft to police killer. Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did not receive a normal childhood and was instead meddling with the law. The Kelly s were often in trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was arrested and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a young age, Ned Kelly was already known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain. Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869, Ned was alleged of being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some robberies. Due to these interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly s criminal actions didn t end there. Likewise, the novel reveals how a human relationship can be complicated and arduous at times to understand. It tells about people in a relationship of love, trying to love, and connect to one another, but difficult to compare. The closer they are, the more both parties try to know each other, and the more they found out that they do not. The last full day of our trip was today, so we decided to visit friends of my parents, Bruce and Martha. Their house was around an hour away from the caravan park, so we started preparing for our mini trip, finally about half an hour later, we were ready to leave. We climb into our petite black car and set off driving along the little road out of the site.Driving along happily looking out the window at all the brightly fresh green grassed fields catching a glance of the mixture of cars pass by my window. As we near our destination, we turn off up this little road that led us beneath a large bridge. The road had a slight twist and my stomach felt like a field of butterflies. Around a sharp bend, Into sight I noticed a sign that reads Welcome to Portsmouth . My father s face looked astonished as he saying aloud I m surprised we made it, without any problems , well he spoke to soon. Around the corner, I noticed a few run down pubs and restaurants, reaching a set of traffic lights and of course we ended up getting stop at the red light. My Personal Social Identity Project In preparation for doing ethnographic research, it is crucial that one understands not only what ethnography is and how it relates to its audience, but also how one s own identities influence the research taking place. For these reasons, this Digital Culture Project will focus on, among other things, what ethnography is and its relationship to various media as well as self ethnography and realizing its importance when conducting ethnographic research. Additionally, my personal social identity will be examined and reflected upon. First and foremost, an understanding must be had of what ethnography is. Ruth Behar, in her book, The Vulnerable Observer, humorously claims that nothing is stranger than this business of humans observing other humans in order to write about them, so naturally, presenting the information gathered through such observations can be seen as something of a challenge for ethnographers (Behar, 5). While many ethnographers have continued using literal media to present their research, others have taken to digital media in new and effective ways. Fortunately, with the growing presence and accessibility of computer technology, ethnography and the digital media have become increasingly intertwined in their use. Arguably, the most effective ethnographic research incorporates new media and technologies into how its narratives are portrayed. According to Underberg and Zorn, ethnography that uses a diverse set of media such as videos, photographs, or digital media to communicate multisensory experience[s] and knowledge is known as multisensory ethnography (Underberg and Zorn, 18 19). In using various media to present research, not only are ethnographers able to have more control over how their audience perceives their findings, but they also make those findings more accessible to audiences of all ages. Exploring the Factors Contributing to the Development of the Cold War There were several factors which led to the development of the Cold War. In this essay I will discuss the disagreement over Poland and Truman s personality. Disagreement over how Poland should be governed was a very important factor in the development of the Cold War. This clash of ideas was important as it harmed the relation between the countries, and therefore led to a Cold War developing. The British and the Americans were also horrified by Russia s behaviour regarding the Warsaw uprising. When the London Poles (the anti Soviet potential government) decided to seize control of part of Poland, the Soviet army did nothing to help them although they were very close. As a result, it was brutally destroyed by the Germans and almost 300,000 Poles were killed in the process. Again, this harmed the relation between Britain and America and the USSR. At Yalta, they tried to resolve the problems concerning the government of Poland and Polish land. The borders of Poland were altered without too much problem and it was agreed that the Lublin government in Poland was to be expanded to include some London Poles as well and that free elections would be held as soon as possible. However, this was not put into practice; Stalin only talked about bringing non communists into Poland without carrying it out and Molotov, the Foreign Minister rejected the idea of letting the London Poles have a significant role in the government. Over the past 15 years, it has grown with such momentum that both non profit organizations and for profit advisory services and tour operators are scrambling to match many different agendas. Philosophical optimism of a bright future held by humanity in general was taken advantage of by the promise of a better life through sacrifice of individuality to the state. In the books Brave New World, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451 clear opposition to these subtle entrapments was voiced in similarly convincing ways. They first all established, to varying degrees of balance, the atmosphere and seductiveness of the utopia and the fear of the consequences of acting in the non prescribed way through character development. When these and other questions weigh upon his mind he begins to realize that something is fundamentally wrong with the world he is living in. In Brave New World the main character, Bernard, is set apart from society by physical differences, which, in a society of engineered people is extremely inhibiting. It is these defects which cause him to look for a deeper meaning than the drug induced happiness forced upon him. These characters, although alienated in the novels, are believable and rational. The acts of their questioning in their search for the truth and real emotion persuade the reader to do the same thing. It is in this manner that the utility of these novels becomes apparent; through the demands they make of the reader personally a superior social commentary, one that demands interaction, is born. The characters struggles to hide their newly found individuality is a futile one. • 32. Three Values of Greek Society in the Odyssey Essay The world is full of wonders, but nothing is more wonderful than man. This quote shows that the Greeks valued themselves, but also their intellect in which they know that the world about them is great. The Greeks valued beauty, art, intellect, honor, and truth; the list is long. Some of these values are shown through the story of the Odyssey, which tells of the adventures of Odysseus and his family. In order to understand Greek values and how they are portrayed in Greek society, one must examine how some values are portrayed in the Odyssey: hospitality, intellect, and beauty. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of a lack of hospitality was when Odysseus and his men came upon the Kyklopes , and the one eyed monsters treated them terribly. On first sight they tried to kill Odysseus and all his men. The Greeks also valued intelligence and intellect. Although there were certain areas in Greece that valued it more than others, such as Athens, the Greeks were generally an intelligent race of people. An example from the Odyssey is when Penelope (Odysseus wife, Telemakhos mother) tells her suitors that she needs to finish weaving a shroud for an old man before she marries. She proceeds to weave on her loom every day, but unravels it during the night, so that she will never have to marry. Another example is when Odysseus finally arrives home, and he disguises himself so he can question people about his home and the situation, all without being noticed. In this way he gained information without revealing himself. Another important Greek value is beauty. The Greeks strived for the idealistic form in everything they did: art, literature, beauty, and even in the sciences. The Odyssey portrays Penelope to be an older woman, but a beautiful older woman, having a hall full of suitors wanting to marry her. Another example is when Athena changes Odysseus appearance in certain situations, usually making Odysseus look young and less hardened by all his traveling.
