Description of All Four Feministic Theories
In chapter twelve of the textbook titled The Moral of the Story we are faced with theories of feminism
that we encounter on an everyday basis. The issue on feminism is one that has been fought for by both
men and woman for many years and yet still seems to be an ongoing battle to achieve full gender
equality. I personally feel that gender equality is important in this world because I for myself have met
women in my life who I not only look up to but who have also inspired me to keep moving forward in
my journey of life. In this paper I will describe all four feministic theories as well as to why I support
feminism as a whole. I will also compare the similarities as well as differences of these theories as
well as to which theory I tend to see more of on a day to day basis.
First we are encountered with the theory of Classical Feminism. This theory is also referred to as
Liberal Feminism which implies that all men and woman are to be regarded as persons first and
gendered beings second (Rosenstand, 625). It is in classical feminism where we are introduced to
another type of gender, which is referred to as Androgyny. This new gender category is one that is
considered to be a combination of both feminine and masculine characteristics and is achieved
through cultural changes rather than biological differences (Rosenstand, 627). Simone de Beauvoir
believed that a man was considered a typical human being while women were viewed as atypical
(Rosenstand, 627). Beauvoir believed

Dragon Bleu Vodka Essay
An alcohol drink which is originated in Eastern Europe is Vodka. The name Vodka came from the
meaning of water where the Russian call as Voda . The first production of Vodka was documented at
the end of the 9th century. At Khylnovosk was the first known distillery and was about 200 years later
were reported in the Vyatka Chronicle of 1174. But Poland one day claimed that they were the earliest
where they had already have distilled vodka earlier in the 8th century. And as it is a distillation of wine
it is more appropriate to be call as crude brandy. And in Polish the first identifiable vodkas are found

Comparison Of Claude Monet

Claude Monet
I am following Nature without being able to grasp her, I perhaps owe having become a painter to
flowers. Claude Monet
Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, France. Although his name was Oscar Claude
Monet, he would drop his first name early in life and use middle name throughout the remainder of his
life. His interest into art began when he was a young boy. He started painting as a child and entered
the Le Havre secondary school when he was just 11 years old. He went to live with his aunt and she
was supportive of his painting. He enrolled in art school in Paris where he copied masterworks
completed by other famous artists. During this time, he completed works solely of his own accord. He
began taking lessons from Charles Gleyre and befriended artist Pierre August Renoir, Alfred Sisley,
and Frederic Bazille. He developed the style and became known as the father of impressionism.
Monet was greatly influenced by French artist Edouard Manet who was an important painter regarding
the move from Realism to Impressionism. While both Manet and Monet had similarities Manet s
artistic style leaned towards Realism while Monet painted with the Impressionism style. The main
difference between the painters is the brushstrokes you can see in Monet s paintings whereas the
paintings Manet did have a smoother appearance.
While his friend focused on painting women, Claude focused on painting

Driven to Their Death
Driven to Their Death I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure
suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the
Jews all throughout the Holocaust just because they didn t like their race. There have been multiple
movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other
horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the
survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor,
whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In
the movie Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and
how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are
multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar ways.
One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death. In Maus,
there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for transportation and
ultimately to send Jews to concentration camps. One of the most important trains was the one that the
Spiegelman s were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they ended up being at
Auschwitz.

Essay on Opium Wars in China
Opium Wars in China
The Opium Wars were a series of three wars between the Chinese and the British; primarily fought in
regard to the illegal trade of opium in China during the 19th century. They manifested the conflicting
natures of both nations and demonstrated China s misconceptions of its own superiority. The Opium
Wars resulted in the humiliating defeat of the Chinese to a country they considered to be barbarians .
There were many problems with the system of trade in China; even before opium trading began.
China, believing herself to be the most civilized and advanced country, did not feel the need to satisfy
Britain, a barbarian country s request for freer trade and were concerned the British wanted land.
Britain however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This situation displeased the British, as there was a steady flow of silver leaving Britain.
British attempts for renewed trade conditions were not met favourably by the Emperor. Firstly, due to
China s self superiority it was assumed the visiting diplomats were paying tribute. Further
complications arose with British refusal to comply with Chinese customs e.g. performing the kowtow
before the Emperor. These actions caused misunderstandings and misinterpretations, which set the
basis of British Chinese relations and attitudes.
During the 18th century, the British began trading opium to the Chinese. They had finally found a
commodity the Chinese were willing to buy. Opium was an illicit drug with addictive properties. As
demand on opium increased, the British traders made huge profits and the trade imbalance was
reversed. There was now a steady flow of silver leaving China. In 1796, the Ch ing government
banned the importation of opium. This did not stop the British, who continued the trade illegally. As
well, extensive corruption amongst Chinese officials allowed the opium trade to flourish.
In 1838, the Ch ing government began to take the illegal opium trade more seriously as they noted the
debilitating effect opium smoking was having on its people. Commissioner Lin was appointed by the
Emperor to stop the illegal importation of opium. Lin

The 1996 Baz Lurhman Interpretation of Rome and Juliet
I will be doing my micro analysis on the 1996 Baz Lurhman interpretation of Romeo + Juliet, the
scene I have chosen to analyse takes place after the news report monologue in which after the two
families are introduced. The Capulets and the Montagues engage in an altercation at the petrol station
and I will discuss how mise en scene and cinematography are used in this sequence to construct
meaning. Initially a fast paced high angled tracking shot of the streets, houses and buildings are used
which displays the setting; this fast tracking shot is used along with intense non diegetic music which
connotes a frantic and chaotic feeling for the spectator or could be used to reflect the tone of the
movie. Text then appears on the screen reading In fair Verona the type face used was sans serif in
childish bubble writing, a type face which is typically associated with comic books subsequently
setting the tone of the film. Again numerous fast tracking shots of the chaotic urban city with zooms
are used to reinforce the opening feel of bedlam. In a wide establishing shot, we can see the
positioning of the Capulet and the Montague towers showing that the two families live and or work
next to each other and that they are openly in close competition with each other. Then a fast tracking
shot with a contra zoom is used to get extreme close up shots of the Jesus statue then the Capulet
tower and the Montague tower to a tracking shot of the surrounding areas, these types of shots

Americans Tend To Celebrate Other People s Success
In the passage, Margaret Mead states that Americans tend to celebrate other people s success far than
those people who are close at hand as a threat. As I have read the author s analysis I noticed that there
is some positive and negative statement. There are some circumstances were Americans feel jealous,
insecure, competitive and anxious around people s success. Most of the time, when someone close to
you like a family member , a close friend and a co worker become successful we tend to feel jealous
and we start seeing them as a threat. On the other hand, people who s far away from us or have a
different career as we are. We congratulate them, praise them, support them with all our heart without
bitterness and we truly celebrate their success. It is a confusing thing but real.

The Niagara Escarpment Ava Is An Ideal Area For Grape Growing
Introduction
The Niagara Escarpment AVA is a relatively new viticulture designated area. The area received the
designation in 2005 and is now one of the fastest growing wine regions in New York State. This AVA
is comprised of a portion of the Niagara Escarpment landform that runs from New York State through
Canada into Wisconsin. (Fig. A) The escarpment has formed over time due to erosion of the rock
layers. The top rock layer, dolomitic limestone, is more weather resistant causing it to erode slower
and creating the escarpment landform. Fig. A
The escarpment is an ideal area for grape growing, as well as other fruits, due to the microclimate
created by the combination of the escarpment and Lake Ontario. Those growing areas that are near the
lake experience weather that is slightly moderated by the presence of the lake waters. Those that are
contained on the escarpment receive a moderated weather pattern due to the escarpments form. The
warm air trapped by the escarpment helps to provide those vineyards with a longer growing season
and protection from harsh winter freezing and spring or fall frost.
The Niagara Wine Trail is currently in a period of growth. In the last few months several new wineries
have been added to the trail and the trail has begun its expansion towards Rochester. Along with this
growth the trail has continued to increase its number of visitors. Along with local customers the trail
also sees many visitors from Canada, Rochester, Finger Lakes area,

The Causes And Effects Of False Memory
False memory can occur for many different reasons. Some factors include; that the human brain is
very susceptible to suggestion, and the misinformation and misattribution of the original source of the
information. Existing knowledge and other memories can also interfere with the formation of a new
memory, causing the recollection of an event to be mistaken or entirely false. (VERYWELL CITE).
For instance, memory researcher Elizabeth Loftus conducted experiments in the mid seventies on the
effect of third parties incorporating false facts to memories. Subjects were shown a slide of a car at an
intersection with either a yield sign or a stop sign. Experimenters asked participants questions, falsely
introducing the term stop sign into the question instead of referring to the yield sign participants had
actually seen. Similarly, experimenters falsely substituted the term yield sign in questions directed to
participants who had actually seen the stop sign slide. The results indicated that subjects remembered
seeing the false image. The introduction of false cues altered participants memories. (STANFORD
JOURNAL).
Then there is an original memory. By definition, an original memory is the process of interpretation
that occurs at the very formation of memory thus introducing distortion from the beginning.
Furthermore, witnesses can distort their own memories without the help of examiners, police officers
or lawyers. (STANFORD JOURNAL). Our memory can be affected by us

Andrew Jackson Bibliography
Internet Bibliography I chose Andrew Jackson as my topic for my internet bibliography. I chose this
topic because I ve heard some intriguing facts about Andrew Jackson before, and I wanted to learn the
details of them. Also, I wanted to learn more about our 7th President. I ve always heard that he was an
avid duelist, and that Andrew Jackson used his own cane to beat a man, who tried to assassinate him. I
wanted to know the details about both of these events, so I decided to dig deeper into Andrew Jackson
s life. My first site that I used for my internet bibliography was on the external links. I decided to use
the The Hermitage: Andrew Jackson link as my starting point. The layout and organization of this site

The Theme Of Innocence And Innocence In Marigolds By...
A child holds innocence from a young age and does not understand the importance of having
compassion. As a child s innocence gradually fade away due to maturity, he or she transforms into a
compassionate person. In a coming of age short story, Marigolds, Eugenia Collier writes about a series
of events where a young girl, named Lizabeth, develops into a compassionate person. Lizabeth
narrates these events in a flashback that involve the marigolds of her neighbor, Miss Lottie. Miss
Lottie s marigolds were the essence of hope in the midst of the town filled with dust and dirt. The
effect of economic struggles that the townspeople go through causes Lizabeth to destroy Miss Lottie s
marigolds. Throughout the short story, Marigolds, the characterization ... Show more content on

Lizabeth does not care about Miss Lottie s feelings until after she destroyed the flowers. In effect,
having Lizabeth destroy the marigolds gives Lizabeth a lesson that would turn her into a
compassionate person. The night that the flowers became destroyed, Lizabeth had heard an argument
between her parents. Significantly, she did not like how her father was being weak while her mother
was being strong. Then, to let all her emotions out, she went to Miss Lottie s house to destroy the
marigolds. After her deed, Lizabeth calms down and realizes Miss Lottie saw the mess. This moment
was when Lizabeth realizes her destruction on the marigolds. The moment she saw Miss Lottie and
her expression of the mess, Lizabeth comes to a realization of why Miss Lottie planted marigolds.
Thinking back on her past, Lizabeth said Yet, there are times when the image of those passionate
yellow mounds return with a painful poignancy. For one does not have to be ignorant and poor to find
that one s life is barrens the dusty yards of one s town. And I too have planted marigolds (30). Every
time she remembers the marigolds and how they look she describes them as, the images of those
passionate yellow mounds return with a painful poignancy. The passionate yellow mounds is the
description of marigolds and every time she remembers them, she has a painful poignancy which can
be indicated that the marigolds represent the lesson she has learned and her experience to becoming a
compassionate person. The end sentence of the quote And I too have planted marigolds is the overall
lesson that Lizabeth learns from her experience that made her a compassionate person. Lizabeth learns
why Miss Lottie had planted her marigolds, but as a lesson, she realizes the meaning behind this. As a
result of destroying the marigolds, Lizabeth changes

The Success Of Real Estate Industry
Real estate is made up of land (all of the natural parts of land such as trees and water) and all
permanently attached fences and buildings. People use real estate for many different things, including
retailing, offices, manufacturing, housing, ranching, farming, churches, and entertainment. The
success of real estate depends on many related factors such as the state of the economy, demographics,
transportation, management expertise and style, government regulations and taxes, location, and
climate. According to the Dictionary of American History, the objective of those in the real estate
industry is to create value by developing land or structures to sell or to lease or by marketing real

As a result sale prices and rent fall. The economic prosperity of the early 1900s brought a huge
expansion of real estate, especially in housing, but by the mid 1930s, 16 million people were
unemployed and the demand for real estate of all types declined precipitously. World War II brought
technological breakthroughs and therefore the demand of houses and other real estate went up. The
mortgage stability introduced by federal legislation following the Great Depression and World War II
greatly aided the huge expansion of suburban housing and shopping centers that followed the war. The
Dictionary of American History also says William Levitt started building Levittown on Long Island in
1947, with around 17,000 standardized houses produced at the rate of 36 per day for a population of
82,000, and by 1955 this type of sub division represented 75% of new housing. The 1950s also
brought the development of hotel chains. Skyscraper office, apartment, and hotel building construction
continued after World War II in urban centers, driving up their values (and profits).
Real estate plays an extremely important role in the U.S. economy. Real estate provides housing for
families (residential). For many of them, it is the most wealth and savings that they have. Commercial
real estate (including apartment buildings) creates

European Expansion And Chinese Decline In The 1400s
European Expansion and Chinese Decline in the 1400 s Describing China s influence as massive
would be an understatement. For centuries, China had been the world s superpower, in terms of
technological growth, financial security, and military might. By the end of the 1400 s however, that
title had been transferred to Europe. A continent once exclusively known for its now fallen Roman
Empire suddenly proves to be the primary actor on the global stage. To this very day, historians argue
over a deceptively simple question: what changed? A series of political power struggles, threats from
the North, and financial instability drove China back from its former glory, while Europe used the
existing Silk Road and Indian Ocean trading systems to launch their success. Historians attempt to
simplify the fall the fall of China. Often, the dismantling of the treasure fleet is pointed out as the
culprit. In the early 1400s, there were 3,500 vessels in China s fleet; by 1440, that number had been
drastically reduced (Levathes 174). Some historians refer to the event as the single greatest foreign
policy blunder in history. Such a statement is a gross over exaggeration. The treasure fleet fell as a
symptom, not a cause, of a failing China. After the death of emperor Zhu Zhanji in 1435, China fell
victim to a political power struggle between two warring factions: the eunuchs and the Confucians
(Levathes 175). Zhu Zhanji ruled with an iron fist, and kept both parties in check. He held

Comparing The Eumenides And The Bacchae
The conflict between the rational and the irrational is present in every person or situation. In Greek
tragedies, this conflict is constantly present within the characters actions and decisions. Usually, there
is always one character that will act rationally compared to the others and would try to fix the conflict.
Both The Eumenides and The Bacchae depict the conflict between the rational and the irrational, yet
the act and solution are presented differently. Whereas The Eumenides portrays it through killing the
family by committing matricide and homicide, The Bacchae portrays it through killing the family by
committing unconscious homicide driven by the desire of the forbidden.

She also brings order and peace for the whole civilization when she calms the Furies and shows them
another way to think that would favor them; she brought peace, reason and order to the empire.
In The Bacchae, the most important characters are not only the gods but also the humans themselves.
Starting off with the story behind the problem, irrationality is demonstrated by the characters of Hera,
Semele and her family. Hera symbolizes irrationality through her emotions, violence and chaos. She is
jealous and revengeful of Zeus, who is unfaithful and had a child with another woman. She makes
Semele, the mistress of Zeus, desire Zeus in his true form, ultimately leading to her death because no
mortal could stand being exposed to so much power. Although Zeus is able to save their baby, this
violence and chaos causes Dionysus family to hate him. Semele symbolizes irrationality through her
emotions and disaster to the natural world. She may be lead by Hera to desire to see Zeus in his true
form, but she knew there were going to be consequences. She also symbolizes disaster to the natural
world by getting involved with the god of all gods and she brings chaos and hatred upon her family
towards her son through her desires. Semele s family also demonstrates irrationality by their discord
and emotions towards Dionysus. They malign their own daughter and reject Dionysus. When the story
unfolds, the two main characters, Dionysus and

As I Lay Dying Addie s Journey
In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying, the Bundren family embarks on a journey to lay their dead wife
and mother, Addie, to rest in a coffin built by one of their own. The family members each have
obstacles they face in addition to grieving for their lost loved one, some physical, some mental, some
more serious than others. However, could it be possible that Addie s death has brought the family
closer in the corpse s journey to her resting place? The journey to Jefferson latched on more obstacles
to the family s feet, but they were able to overcome them in the end and reach their destination.
However, despite having each other, in the very end, perhaps the family remained more divided, as
there was already the weight of poverty and Addie s death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to stealing his daughter s abortion money for his own cosmetic use, he cherishes the
fantasy of using the funeral trip to the city to buy himself new teeth (F. MacCannell,) rather than
mourn his deceased wife. In fact, it can be assumed he did not care for Addie as much as a husband
should. Addie did not care much for him either, and resents him in her narrative section of the novel.
Then I believed that I would kill Anse. It was as though he had tricked me, hidden within a word like
within paper and struck me in the back through it (Faulkner.) Addie resented their marriage and her
motherhood with him. Addie finds no comfort in motherhood once it becomes repetitious...the
repetition entraps her (Tredell.) Due to this, Addie ended up having an affair and giving birth to Jewel,
her prized son. This most likely did not sit well with Anse, and this contributed to the brokenness of
the family way before the journey to Jefferson even began. Perhaps as an act of revenge, Anse ended
up with another woman immediately following the end of the journey, which is an obvious sting in the
wounds of the other family members still mourning Addie. Anse is a totally ineffectual individual who
needs someone to take care of him (L. Roberts), and perhaps this was his way of trying to remain
stable in the corrupted family, but does not realize the effects his egoism has on everyone else, not that

Comparison Of Soccer Balls
Background
Although a soccer ball may look like a sphere is not a real sphere. When you look closely at the actual
ball you will see that it is polyhedron made of different shapes. A polyhedron is a three dimensional
object composed of flat polygon sides typically connected at the edges (Wolfram 1999). The most
common shape of modern soccer balls is called a truncated icosahedron. Icosahedron is a shape made
up of 20 triangles. To create a more round object the icosahedron is truncated. Here, truncated applies
to cutting off the edges which makes the icosahedron look more round ( Icosahedron, 2014). The
truncated icosahedron has 32 total faces including 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons with
90 edges and 60 vertices ( Truncated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Check that the lengths of all the lines is 5 cm and that the angles are all 108º. Carefully cut out the

12) Now repeat the previous steps 11 more times to create the 12 regular pentagons. Always check
that the compass and lines are 5 cm. B) Create a regular hexagon
To draw a regular hexagon we followed the instructions provided online (Hartley, 2013).
1) Set the radius of the compass to 5 cm. It is critical that it stays at this length. Throughout the
process check that the length stays at 5 cm.
2) Draw a line 5 cm long and label the points A and B (.
3) Draw 2 small arcs centered at point A and point B towards the center of the line AB. Label the point
where the two arcs cross as point 1. This is the center of the regular hexagon and the vertices of the
hexagon will be on a circle centered at this point.
4) Initially draw a full circle centered at point 1. In future steps you only need to draw arcs near where
the vertices occur.
5) Using point B as the center, draw a short arc that crosses the circle. Label the point of intersection

a bus accident. When the bus accident happened Frida Kahlo was stabbed by a steel handrail, which
went all the way through her hip, which was a serious fracture and left her in the hospital for several
weeks in the hospital to recover. The only good outcome out of this was that during her recovery time
she used her time painting so her talent came out to the world. She was married to another great
Mexican artist, Diego Rivera who was consider a muralist at the time. He was also a great influence
when she started painting. One of her paintings, The Two Frida s, shows us two Kahlo s and how one
person can feel and look like two totally different people after an emotional experience, in this case
the divorcement of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.

The Wallpaper Of Purple By Steven Spielberg
The Sexist Shade of Purple
If Jaws was the movie that jumpstarted Steven Spielberg s career in the film industry, then The Color
Purple was the movie that was able to distinguish Steven from any other movie director during the
time. All of Spielberg s movies prior to 1985 were generally movies of either action packed adventure
or unnerving horror, but once Steven Spielberg announced that he would be doing a movie based on
Alice Walker s book, The Color of Purple, no one knew what to expect. Jump 31 years later, Steven
Spielberg s The Color of Purple, is still seen as a film masterpiece that deals with a grotesque yet
historical insight of African American culture back in the early 1900 s. Through the depiction of visual
art form of film, Steven Spielberg was able to highlight certain aspects of everyday African American
life back then such as the existence of sexism, racism and the importance of familial relationships.
However, Steven Spielberg emphasizes and brings to the spotlight the aspect of sexism of the
historical African American community. With a movie full of uncomfortable and daunting scenes,
Steven Spielberg is able to underline the evil social facet of sexism faced by African American women
in their community in the past. Steven wants his audience to know that side of African American
history and wants us to view African American women differently because of it In the very beginning
of the movie, we are shown a brutal scene of the main character, Cecile,

‘The decentralisation of retailing and other services has...
In the 1950s and 1960s shops selling high order goods, like furniture and jewellery, were in the town
and city centres, which attracted customers from a wide catchment area. Shops selling low order
goods, like food, were located in the local neighbourhoods. However, this traditional shopping pattern
began to change in the 1970s, when shops like supermarkets and DIY stores began to move to the
outskirts of towns by decentralisation. Although it is obvious that the decentralisation of retailing and
other services has had a major impact on urban areas, the impacts have been negative, positive or
neutral.
There are a number of reasons for the growth in out of town retailing. Firstly, increased car ownership
has meant that many more people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Bluewater in Kent is built in a former quarry. This redevelopment of brownfield sites
can often help to regenerate an area. In city centres, positive impacts include local councils and the
government investing money into improving the city centre, in order to attract customers back. Some
of these improvements may include creating new pedestrian zones, renovating older shopping malls
and organising events. Also, pollution and congestion may decrease as fewer people drive to the city
centre to shop. These positive impacts may lead people to believe that the decentralisation of retailing
and other services has had a major positive impact on urban areas.
The Trafford Centre opened in 1998. It was built on a brownfield site in the industrial area of Trafford
Park, 5 miles west of Manchester. The site covers 150 acres and cost £600,000 to complete. The
Trafford Centre has the largest catchment area of any shopping centre in the UK, with over 5.3 million
people living within a 45 minute drive. The Centre is popular for a number of reasons. Firstly, the
Trafford Centre has over 200 shops, a 1600 seat food court, a 20 screen cinema, crazy golf and ten pin
bowling. In addition to this, it is well connected by road, being very close to the M60 for customers
coming from outside of Manchester, and the M602 into the city centre. There are also many buses that
go direct from Manchester to the Trafford Centre.

Essay on The Effect of the Vietnam War on the Australian...
The Effect of the Vietnam War on the Australian Society
The Vietnam War had great political impact and led to deep division within Australian society. The
Australian people were forced to take the issues about the Cold War, Vietnam and the arms race
seriously because of Australia s military involvement in Vietnam from 1962 to 1972. As a result, our
fear of communism and of Asia increased dramatically.
Australia, occupying a large mass of land, yet having a small population had always lived in the belief
that they were threatened some way by the foreign powers and this led to the formation of The White
Australia Policy , which was set up in 1901. This policy clearly reflects the enormous fear ... Show

These had the effect of Australia feeling vulnerable and lonely, and all the traditional beliefs of the
mother country, Britain, coming to Australia s aid in time of need vanished and with the reaction of
Britain towards Australia, Australian Government had to accept the fact that they were only
expendable part of the British Empire.
Australia, led by the Curtin Government at the time, at last realized the limits of British powers, yet
desperate in need of allies and protectors, looked up to the United States as the only support to assist
Australia. This realization made a great impact in the changes of the relationships between Britain and
Australia.
United States did come to rescue Australia in 1942 but the motive was for its self interest because
Australia was the best place from which the Americans could apply its counter offenses against the
Japanese, and when General MacArthur arrived in Australia he was greatly welcomed by the Australia
government, seeing as they didn t have much choice other than follow US military strategies due to
the fall of British power. This World War II played a major role in Australia s beginning relationships
with the United States and United States took over Britain s place of being

Physics for Industries
INTRODUCTION
Physics attempts to describe the fundamental nature of the universe and how it works, always striving
for the simplest explanations common to the most diverse behaviour. For example, physics explains
why rainbows have colours, what keeps a satellite in orbit, and what atoms and nuclei are made of.
The goal of physics is to explain as many things as possible using as few laws as possible, revealing
nature s underlying simplicity and beauty. Physics has been applied in many industrial fields, which
include the air industry, construction industry, automobile industry, manufacturing industry and many
others. All these industries apply physics in one way or another. For example a car that moves from
one point to another has to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fluid moving over the top travels a greater distance than the moving just under the bottom of the
wing. Consequently, the fluid moving over the top must travel faster in order to conform to the shape
of the wing and still maintain the natural streamline. The shape of the wing also crowds the
streamlines together above the wing, just as in the case of a constructing pipe. The result is that of the
region immediately above the wing. Because the downward force on the top of the wing is less than
the upward force on the bottom, a net upward force, or lift, arises from the airflow. (Beyond the airfoil
the flowing air has a downward component of velocity. By Newton s third law, the reaction force to
the net downward force exerted on the air is the lift.) For lift to occur, a flow of air is required relative
to the wing. The lift occurs equally well for a wing moving through stationary air or for moving past a
stationary wing.
In general, as the flow of air past the wing increases, both the lift force and the drag force (the
resistance to forward motion) increases. According to Breithaipt (2000), aircraft wings are designed so
that pilots can change the wing shape during flight, producing greater lift for the slower speeds of
takeoff and landing and producing less drag at cruising extended

Simba s Pride In The Enchanted Forest
Simba was born into the royal line, as the son of the king of the pride, Mufasa. This pride existed in
the land of the Enchanted Forest, though far away from many of the castles, as its own kingdom of

a human form. The Pride land extended far along the land, and where the sun set, that was where the

As a young boy he liked to explore, he didn t do what he was told by his father, and as a result, Simba

How Humans Affect The Alpine Biome
Introduction The alpine biome is a biome high in the mountains with trees, rivers, lakes and etc. This
the biome where the Himalayas, the Rockies, the Andes, and even Mount Everest! But now because of
human actions, some animals are now endangered. You will learn a lot about the alpine when you
finish reading this.
Location and Climate
The climate is fairly dry in the alpine biome. The average precipitation in the alpine biome each year
is 12 inches (30cm) each year. In summer the temperature is 40 to 60f (4.5 to 15.5c). While in winter
the temperatures are below freezing.
Plants and Animals Do to the cold climate most plants are tiny ground cover plants, which grow and

How Humans Affect the Alpine Biome
Humans affect the alpine biome in both, good and bad ways.
They make conservation acts and zoos. But humans also poach in the alpine biome which has made
some animals endangered. Humans can make the conservation acts more stricter so that less and less
people poach. That is why I think humans affect the alpine biome in both good and bad ways.
Conclusion
The alpine biome is a beautiful biome that is very important on earth. Some of the most famous sites
are in the alpine biome, including Mount Everest. But now humans poach in the alpine biome, so now
lots of animals are endangered. Even though the hard climate causes problems, plants, animals and

Theme Of God In The Doorway By Annie Dillard
God! A figure of love and forgiveness to many, a figure of fear to others. Pulitzer Prize winning
essayist Annie Dillard illustrates the differences and similarities on how one feels about God in her
essays On a Hill Far Away and God in the Doorway . Dillard explores children s fear of God by
comparing her portrayal of herself with the child on the hill, using common motifs, symbols, and
differences of tone to contrast the two reactions. With the reverence of God also comes the fear of the
almighty. This fear can push one away from society, setting one apart from the rest. Isolation is a motif
prevalent in both essays, affecting the Dillard and the boy in different ways. Dillard reflects upon
herself as a young girl in God in the Doorway where fear had driven her away from her loving family
as she hides herself in her room. Her terror comes in the form of Santa Claus, causing her to run from
her family. During the incident on Christmas Eve, Dillard recalls that her, mother called and called,
enthusiastic, pleading; I wouldn t come down. My father encouraged me; my sister howled. I wouldn t
come down (Dillard 138). Dillard s fear of Santa drove herself away from her family, causing Dillard
to hide from her fear rather than confront it. In On a Hill Far Away , the boy s faith places him in a
very different state of isolation. In contrast to Dillard, he didn t push himself away, but longed for
company, someone who could understand him and his beliefs. In the essay,

Essay on Collusion Between British Airways and Virgin
The tacit collusion case to be discussed involves the illegal collusion and setting of fuel surcharges to
commercial and cargo transatlantic fares between British Airways (BA) and Virgin Atlantic Airways
(Virgin). The factors which contributed to its success will be discussed, as well as why, and its
implications, of becoming public. To begin with, it would be beneficial to define both collusive
behaviour and the nature of the competition involved in the aviation industry.
Collusion is the act of a number of firms within an industry agreeing to set a certain price, output or
another parameter and is almost always against the law. This is as they all compete in the given
industry, with the setting of prices or outputs done in favour of the ... Show more content on

As the nature of the good is a seat on a plane, clearly capacity constraints are present in the form of
the limited seating on aircraft, as well as the inability to in the short run increase output beyond full
capacity. During the setting of price, clear communication will most likely result in a non static
equilibrium. As well as this, the symmetry in terms of the market and cost structures has played a part
in creating a successful cartel. Each firm produces a relatively homogenous good in terms of economy,
business or first class, with a limited amount of features it can differentiate itself from its competitors.
As well as this, using Figure 1, which will be discussed later on, demonstrates that the main costs to
an airline are those which cannot be easily reduced or offset, most notably the cost of fuel and aircraft
maintenance. Therefore both firms have near perfect knowledge of the cost structure and revenue
through observing prices, and will aid in choosing a certain pricing strategy.
What follows will be a detailed discussion of the specific market conditions which lead to the
successful collusion between BA and Virgin.
The UK Transatlantic Flight market as a whole can be said to hold many key factors which have led to
successful collusion. The first is due to the high levels of

Analysis Of The Book Malcolm Gladwell
When thinking of successful people you automatically think about how hard people have worked to be
successful. In the Outliers book Malcolm Gladwell argues that we should look at the world that
surrounds successful people. For instance their culture, family, experiences, and their upbringing.
Gladwell has made an interesting argument about how people become successful. In this paper, I will
be talking about how Bradley Byrne, US Representative for Alabama became successful using some
information from Gladwell s arguments.
Gladwell wants to convince readers that different kinds of explanations of success don t work, people

Interest Groups Essay
An interest group is an organized group of people that come together to attempt to influence
policymakers in any level of government. They influence the different levels of government by giving
money to a political candidate. They write letters, emails, and make phone calls to the policymakers.
They attempt to get the policymakers to make legislation reflecting the objectives of the group (This
Nation, 2008). Americans choose to join these interest groups because they are motivated by the group
s objectives. They believe the group will protect their interest within the political realm. For an

Random Acts Of Kindness
For the past thirty days, random acts of kindness were experimented at Galion s track and field. The
purpose of this experiment was to boost the confidence of my fellow track members, in hopes of them
to feel and perform better. The group of people I interacted with were mainly male and females aging
between 15 and 19. The females were most likely to respond verbally by saying thank you. The males
mostly gave facial expressions or did not say anything at all. After awhile, I started to notice that these
RAK s were commencing a domino effect. This domino effect is supported by Durkheim s collective
conscious concept. I also noticed that the peers began to perform better during track meets. The use of
soft skills were a key factor in this experiment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time period, a habit can be added or subtracted from one s lifestyle (Cutts, 2011). I am
pleased to announce that the habit of random acts of kindness is one that I now possess. After doing
RAK s for an experiment, I began to notice that these RAK s were becoming more of a natural
routine, not something that I was purposely doing for data. With this becoming a habit, I have helped
create a positive atmosphere at Galion s track and field. For instance, on April 4, I was cheering on
Marisa as she high jumped. I told her encouraging words when she did not jump to her satisfaction.
She repeated my actions towards her by doing the same thing to other high jumpers. The people on the
track team were beginning to develop a sense of natural optimism passed around by others,
unconsciously. By performing these RAK s, I feel that I have initiated social change. Gilmore (2007),
states that there is untapped potential in even the smallest good deed and it can have a multiplier effect
strong enough to change the world (p.133). This quote of hers is true within the experiment that I have
been practicing. The small RAK s I have been doing for my fellow track members are being passed on
to others around the track and field. If these students continue to do so, we can eliminate the
negativity, thus making the world a better

Visceral Response Hedda Gabler
As I viewed Hedda Gabler, I had two visceral responses during two very important scenes. My first
visceral response occurred when Hedda Gabler was being questioned by Commissioner Brack about
the death of Ejlert Løvborg. This scene made me feel very uncomfortable. As I watched the
commissioner push and throw Hedda around, I started thinking about domestic violence. It was a
scary thing to watch, and it must be terrifying to experience. When the commissioner spit his drink on
Hedda, I felt physically sick. Prior to this, I really did not like Hedda, but as Hedda began to realize
that she had no power to stop the commissioner, my heart softened toward her. At the end of the play, I
experienced another visceral response when Hedda committed suicide in order free herself from the
power of the commissioner. I watched this play just three weeks after a family member committed
suicide. He was in extreme physical pain, and there was nothing that doctors could do for him. He
took his own life in order to free himself from this physical pain. Watching Hedda take her own life
really made me sad for my own loss. I really wanted to leave the play, but since I really needed to
view the final moments, I sat glued to my seat, hoping something else would happen that would make
me feel better. When that did not occur, I was actually mad. This really was a difficult play for me to
watch.
Throughout the play, I noticed that I felt a connection with Berte. Berte, the maid in this story, sat in
the corner for the entire play and was not really significant to the storyline. Her job was to inform
Hedda Gabler and Jorgen Tesman who is entering the apartment. In a recent production of A Time to
Kill at my community college, I played the part of Norma Gallo, the court reporter. During the scenes
in which I was present, I sat typing on a typewriter and, like Berte, I was not very significant to the
storyline. For the duration of the production, Berte is more or less a people watcher. I, too, am
somewhat of a people watcher; when I am in a group of strangers, I think about who they might be
and make up stories about their lives. I enjoy watching from a distance, but not being a part of what is
happening. Another reason, that I

1: The external controlling organizational system The emphasis of bureaucracy is on hierarchical
organization and the detailed division of labor. This restricts personal feelings and behaviors on the
basis of written rules so as to achieve the purpose of the organization. (Olsen, 2006) In other words,
bureaucracy relies on a strict and mature organizational system. The system comprises precise
regulation and rules to implement effective controlling. In an organization, advantages from the
system control can largely benefit the whole organization, which include, lowering the cost of control,
keeping high efficiency operations, maintaining a fairly and justice workplace environment. (Salaman,
2005) In the long run, a perfect system can ensure the consistency of the organization s activities, and
an equal workplace environment can greatly release the workplace conflict between the managers and
the employees. However, Sližienė and Vaitkienė (2007) point out that a perfect system controlling
depends on two factors. On the one hand, it is hard to make a perfect system that satisfied the interest
of everyone. Besides, it may be impossible to make predictive and far sighted regulations to be able to
solve all the difficulties. At the same time, even though the system itself is perfect enough, the process
to implement these rules seems to be more difficult. Where the executors can make mistakes in this

William Shakespeare s problem play, Measure for Measure presents men in patriarchy as the justified

because of their male superiority . Isabella s agency to protect Claudio, however, affirms her refusal to

The ambiguous ending of the play is an overarching representation of the kind of silence women
receive in society. The Duke s marriage proposal to Isabella, is seen as a way of justice to preserve her
moral reputation and to give her an identity, however, it also represents how much power he holds
over her especially because she is unable to give an answer. This ambiguity and lack of response from
Isabella s part can represent an implied agreement. Isabella is the female character with the most
agency, but in this instance she is vulnerable and powerless. The Duke proclaims, If he be like your
brother, for his sake, give me your hand and say you will be mine, (Act 5, Scene 1). The Duke takes
advantage of his power by proposing to Isabella; he wants something in return for keeping her brother
alive. This is the second time in the play when Isabella is confronted by a powerful and egotistical
male figure. Isabella herself admits to Angelo that, Women are frail... Women? Help, Heaven! Men

times are a bit inharmonious to the overall setting, but it s the last picture before the older boy bursted
into tears. I can still remember every details before and after that day. It s a normal Tuesday morning
of my summer. Unlike the any usual morning, today, I wake up with the chatter of the sparrows. As
the warm orange embraces me through the French windows in my bedroom, I change into the clothes
that were place on my drawer since Sunday. While I was rushing out of the house to say goodbye to
my friends, I can still see the unfinished Lego on the couch since the first day of vacation, but addition
to that, there are twelve colorful suit cases and some of my Grandparents friends in the living room.
After some quick greetings and a very quick bite of breakfast, I am in the front of my best friend s
house. However, the only person that come out after my 10 minutes, unstopped pressing of doorbell is
her mother. Why are you here so early, she didn t even wake up yet!

What Is The Theme Of Father And Son By Bernard Maclaverty
Father and Son is a short story written by the Irish Bernard MacLaverty in 1978. The short story takes
place in Northern Ireland where we meet a father and his son and get a glimpse into their life.
The narrator alternates between father and son and is mostly conversations and thoughts.
The story is basically based on the relationship between the son and the father and you do not get
much told from the past. However there is told, that the son has been in London, which is clear
because the father says he has not heard from his son for two years, and talks about reading about
London in the papers and seeing scenes from London on the news. We are also told that the father is a
widow which is clear when the father asks the questions Is it my ... Show more content on

The atmosphere is always pressured between the father and son and none of them sleeps at night. They
used to be close to talk, laugh and do a lot of things together among them, go fishing. Now the son is
very stuffy and shares nothing with his father, he doesn t tell him where he goes, not even when the
father asks. The son s anger and bad relationship with the father is obvious by his way of act, thinking
and talking to his father. He shouts and calls him a nosey old bastard and an old woman that cries
(page 116, line 10) (page 115, line 3 4). The father is calmer he loves his son very much but he is
worried and frustrated about his son. He miss the time when they could do anything together, he want
his son to talk to him the way he hear him talk to the people in the door, want to laugh with him and
know what he is thinking. One day after an ordinary quarrel the father would go up to apologize, when
he opens the door he sees his son pushing a gun under the pillow and when he asks what is his son
shouts, It s non of your fucking business (page 116, line 13) and slamming the door in the head of his
father. The father imagine that he did not see what he saw, hoping he is

Letter To Ephesians Essay
Historical Background In the beginning of the book of Ephesians, Paul specifically states that he is the
author of the letter to Ephesians, though the authenticity of Paul s authorship has been questioned.
Signing the name of an influential person of the period was common practice from the third century
BC to the first century AD. Though it would not be the first time that Paul s name was forged,
Ephesians is not a controversial letter, so if the author did not want to include his own name, he could
have written the letter anonymously; also, given moral influence of the text, the author would not have
lied for no cause. Ephesians is a bit different from the other letters of Paul in that it does not follow the
normal structure he has previously used: salutation, thanksgiving, prayer, body, ethical exhortations,
greetings. Paul also makes many personal references throughout the book of Ephesians including
sharing that he is in prison. During the time the letter was written, most believe that Paul was in a
prison in Rome. He wrote three letters at around the same time. One letter was to the Colossians; one
letter was to Philemon, whose slave, Onesimus, had recently run away; the final letter was to the
church that Paul had started in Ephesus. The messenger that carried the letters to the church of
Colossae most likely passed through the sea port and great city at Ephesus. Working in Ephesus for at
least two years, Paul expanded the reach of the Gospel to the entire

Vacation Gone Awry Essays
I lay asleep in the car crammed between my brother and my sister; I open my eyes just in time to see a
sign with half of the lights burnt out that read State Bridge, Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging.
By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling that this place was going to be a dump. The word resort led
me to believe it wasn t that bad. The thought I always kept in the back of my mind was what a Hawke
family vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we could, and we would
leave as soon as possible. This, to my dad, was the greatest vacation.
My dad had this great last minute idea of going to his sister s house in Steamboat Springs for
Christmas. My family is known for last minute planning. We started ... Show more content on

My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting off quite frequently
and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this was going to cause havoc later because
he hated when I would do that. I decided that it would cause less controversy if I looked at a
magazine. I turned on the light and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked once and burned
out. Sleeping seemed to be my only other option.
Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked considerably nice. When
my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel, two police cars drove up with their sirens
screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and confused, I was trying to figure out what the commotion
was. Then I noticed a man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The two police officers
got him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He obviously had too
much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were gone and my dad was back in the van
in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we were not going to stay there so we were off to the next
town.
The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be an old mining town
with nothing in it except for a so called resort. The lights of a sign that said, State Bridge Resort,
Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging were flickering as if they were going to burn out. My dad

Shakespeare s Sonnet #73 Essay
Shakespeare s Sonnet #73, published in 1609, is written in the Shakespearean or English sonnet style.
It consists of three quatrains and one couplet at the end, written in iambic pentameters. Each quatrain
has its own rhyme scheme, rhyming in alternating lines. The couplet summarizes the preceding twelve
lines. Sonnet 73 appears to contain multiple parallels to death and the person speaking in the poem
gives the impression that he is near death and reflecting back upon life.
The first quatrain, That time of the year thou mayst behold me/ When yellow leaves, or none, or few
do hang/ Upon those boughs which shake against the cold/ Bare ruin choirs where late the sweet bird
sang. He seems to be comparing his life the unspecified season, ... Show more content on

Meaning, death will come, without question. He plays upon the sun setting, which in some cultures
was a god dying every evening (and he would be reborn every morning). The sun setting could also be
regarded as the sun going to sleep, which plays on the last line of the quatrain, quot;Death s second
self, which seals upon rest. quot; This line talks of the eternal sleep, or death. This quatrain suggests a
night without the possibility of day, quot;seals upon rest. quot;
In the third quatrain, In me the glowing of such fire/ That on the ashes of his youth doth lie/ As the
deathbed whereon it must expire/ Consuming with that which it was nourished by. He seems to
compare his life to fire, burning bright in youth, when energy and ideas bound forth, but eventually it
all turns to ashes, fragments of the passing youth, essentially death. He also makes implications of
lying upon the ashes, his deathbed, of days gone by, days when he was young and full of energy. The
fire proposes finality, the non cyclical process that night and the seasons are part of, which
Shakespeare has worked towards in the poem.
The final couplet, This thou percev st which makes thy love more strong/ To love that well which thou
must leave ere

The Code Switching Language Teaching
The code switching language taught me a new way to reach my future students on a grammatical level
in any part of the state I choose to teach in. Code switching is teaching that informal and formal
language is neither incorrect nor correct but which form is appropriate for the situation that the student
is in. The method improves grammar and the students grasp on written and spoken English, while not
focusing on the students ability to write a correct sentence. While learning about code switching the
process reminded me of an urban slang dictionary being used. A code switching lesson consists of four
individual lessons to be used in order and repeated if the concept is not grasped. The first lesson is
identifying the pattern that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Learning about dialects was another interesting topic we discussed in class, the topic made me really
think deep about what kind of dialect I use in everyday life. Dialects are a specific variation of a
language in a particular region or ethic group with individualized phonological features to wide range
of groups. A large part of decoding dialects is the understanding of the International Phonetic
Alphabet, phonology, and phonemes used in the different areas you might be teaching in. Phonology is
the study of sound and phonemes is the smallest unit of sound both are key to use and listen for when
in a new region of the country. The International Phonetic Alphabet represents the sounds letters make
for a spoken language and when written the word reads as a certain dialect. Lexical features of dialects
are the preferred terms of words used in certain dialects with different synonyms used by other
dialects. Learning about dialects also taught me how people code switch from home to public settings.
I speak a Northern Jersey with a small amount of classic southern mixed into my dialect. Allowing me
to understand multiple dialects including Standard English. My stronger northern accent may cause
me teaching in areas with a strong southern accent to be a little bit of a struggle with my students and
myself.

Are Video Games Art No But Playing Them Can Be Summary
In response to the article titled, Are Video Games Art? No But Playing Them Can Be, by author Phil
Hartup, he makes the argument that video games are not art, but rather the audience that engages
themselves in playing them makes it art. The author uses examples such as Mona Lisa and Michael
Bay just to support his claim, and while his claims are interesting, some of the stuff he says can be
ridiculous, in my opinion. I, myself, disagree with most of his claims. Video games have a big
influence on communities just like art, and not only that, but without graphic ARTISTS, we wouldn t
be able to have these video games that we have today. Video games, in my opinion have so much
creativity in them that they should be considered as art.
Hartup introduces his claim by giving examples of art such as the Mona Lisa and a few examples of
things with what Michael Bay does in movies. There is no direct dialogue with art, says Hartup, in
which this case, I must disagree. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, meaning that all
those details in paintings you see must give you some dialogue if you think about it. Many people
around the world are influenced and engaged with the dialogue of art, trying to find a deep meaning to
them, just like they are engaged in most video games in the same way. There is a lot of controversy
with people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was very structured and well put together, but in the end, I don t agree with most of the things he
says. I believe that if video games can tell a story and make the players feel like they got something
out of it, just like how art does as well, then why is there such a big controversy over this topic? The
way I see it, and how I will continue to see it, is that video games is just like art due to the emotions it
brings to players, and by me saying that it s like art, I think it s safe to say that in a way, it is

  • 2. Description of All Four Feministic Theories In chapter twelve of the textbook titled The Moral of the Story we are faced with theories of feminism that we encounter on an everyday basis. The issue on feminism is one that has been fought for by both men and woman for many years and yet still seems to be an ongoing battle to achieve full gender equality. I personally feel that gender equality is important in this world because I for myself have met women in my life who I not only look up to but who have also inspired me to keep moving forward in my journey of life. In this paper I will describe all four feministic theories as well as to why I support feminism as a whole. I will also compare the similarities as well as differences of these theories as well as to which theory I tend to see more of on a day to day basis. First we are encountered with the theory of Classical Feminism. This theory is also referred to as Liberal Feminism which implies that all men and woman are to be regarded as persons first and gendered beings second (Rosenstand, 625). It is in classical feminism where we are introduced to another type of gender, which is referred to as Androgyny. This new gender category is one that is considered to be a combination of both feminine and masculine characteristics and is achieved through cultural changes rather than biological differences (Rosenstand, 627). Simone de Beauvoir believed that a man was considered a typical human being while women were viewed as atypical (Rosenstand, 627). Beauvoir believed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Comparison Of Claude Monet Jeanette Ford Hum1020 Intro to Humanities November 18, 2017 Claude Monet I am following Nature without being able to grasp her, I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers. Claude Monet Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, France. Although his name was Oscar Claude Monet, he would drop his first name early in life and use middle name throughout the remainder of his life. His interest into art began when he was a young boy. He started painting as a child and entered the Le Havre secondary school when he was just 11 years old. He went to live with his aunt and she was supportive of his painting. He enrolled in art school in Paris where he copied masterworks completed by other famous artists. During this time, he completed works solely of his own accord. He began taking lessons from Charles Gleyre and befriended artist Pierre August Renoir, Alfred Sisley, and Frederic Bazille. He developed the style and became known as the father of impressionism. Monet was greatly influenced by French artist Edouard Manet who was an important painter regarding the move from Realism to Impressionism. While both Manet and Monet had similarities Manet s artistic style leaned towards Realism while Monet painted with the Impressionism style. The main difference between the painters is the brushstrokes you can see in Monet s paintings whereas the paintings Manet did have a smoother appearance. While his friend focused on painting women, Claude focused on painting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Driven to Their Death Driven to Their Death I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Elie Wiesel once said. Nazis tormented the Jews all throughout the Holocaust just because they didn t like their race. There have been multiple movies, books, and graphic novels about the holocaust showing all the traumatic deaths, and other horrifying events that took place. The graphic novel Maus written by Art Spiegelman shows the survival story of a man named Vladek, and written by his son Artie. Vladek was a true survivor, whether it was purely luck or not, but he also cared about other people who were there with him. In the movie Schindler s List directed by Steven Spielberg this shows the story about the holocaust and how one man named Schindler saved many men, women, and families. In both stories, there are multiple motifs such as trains, lists, and death. Both stories show the same motifs in very similar ways. One way the motifs are the same is that the trains represent their journey to their own death. In Maus, there are multiple pictures of trains throughout the novel. Trains were used for transportation and ultimately to send Jews to concentration camps. One of the most important trains was the one that the Spiegelman s were on when they thought they were going to Hungary, but they ended up being at Auschwitz. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Opium Wars in China Opium Wars in China The Opium Wars were a series of three wars between the Chinese and the British; primarily fought in regard to the illegal trade of opium in China during the 19th century. They manifested the conflicting natures of both nations and demonstrated China s misconceptions of its own superiority. The Opium Wars resulted in the humiliating defeat of the Chinese to a country they considered to be barbarians . There were many problems with the system of trade in China; even before opium trading began. China, believing herself to be the most civilized and advanced country, did not feel the need to satisfy Britain, a barbarian country s request for freer trade and were concerned the British wanted land. Britain however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This situation displeased the British, as there was a steady flow of silver leaving Britain. British attempts for renewed trade conditions were not met favourably by the Emperor. Firstly, due to China s self superiority it was assumed the visiting diplomats were paying tribute. Further complications arose with British refusal to comply with Chinese customs e.g. performing the kowtow before the Emperor. These actions caused misunderstandings and misinterpretations, which set the basis of British Chinese relations and attitudes. During the 18th century, the British began trading opium to the Chinese. They had finally found a commodity the Chinese were willing to buy. Opium was an illicit drug with addictive properties. As demand on opium increased, the British traders made huge profits and the trade imbalance was reversed. There was now a steady flow of silver leaving China. In 1796, the Ch ing government banned the importation of opium. This did not stop the British, who continued the trade illegally. As well, extensive corruption amongst Chinese officials allowed the opium trade to flourish. In 1838, the Ch ing government began to take the illegal opium trade more seriously as they noted the debilitating effect opium smoking was having on its people. Commissioner Lin was appointed by the Emperor to stop the illegal importation of opium. Lin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The 1996 Baz Lurhman Interpretation of Rome and Juliet I will be doing my micro analysis on the 1996 Baz Lurhman interpretation of Romeo + Juliet, the scene I have chosen to analyse takes place after the news report monologue in which after the two families are introduced. The Capulets and the Montagues engage in an altercation at the petrol station and I will discuss how mise en scene and cinematography are used in this sequence to construct meaning. Initially a fast paced high angled tracking shot of the streets, houses and buildings are used which displays the setting; this fast tracking shot is used along with intense non diegetic music which connotes a frantic and chaotic feeling for the spectator or could be used to reflect the tone of the movie. Text then appears on the screen reading In fair Verona the type face used was sans serif in childish bubble writing, a type face which is typically associated with comic books subsequently setting the tone of the film. Again numerous fast tracking shots of the chaotic urban city with zooms are used to reinforce the opening feel of bedlam. In a wide establishing shot, we can see the positioning of the Capulet and the Montague towers showing that the two families live and or work next to each other and that they are openly in close competition with each other. Then a fast tracking shot with a contra zoom is used to get extreme close up shots of the Jesus statue then the Capulet tower and the Montague tower to a tracking shot of the surrounding areas, these types of shots ... • 9. The Niagara Escarpment Ava Is An Ideal Area For Grape Growing Introduction The Niagara Escarpment AVA is a relatively new viticulture designated area. The area received the designation in 2005 and is now one of the fastest growing wine regions in New York State. This AVA is comprised of a portion of the Niagara Escarpment landform that runs from New York State through Canada into Wisconsin. (Fig. A) The escarpment has formed over time due to erosion of the rock layers. The top rock layer, dolomitic limestone, is more weather resistant causing it to erode slower and creating the escarpment landform. Fig. A The escarpment is an ideal area for grape growing, as well as other fruits, due to the microclimate created by the combination of the escarpment and Lake Ontario. Those growing areas that are near the lake experience weather that is slightly moderated by the presence of the lake waters. Those that are contained on the escarpment receive a moderated weather pattern due to the escarpments form. The warm air trapped by the escarpment helps to provide those vineyards with a longer growing season and protection from harsh winter freezing and spring or fall frost. The Niagara Wine Trail is currently in a period of growth. In the last few months several new wineries have been added to the trail and the trail has begun its expansion towards Rochester. Along with this growth the trail has continued to increase its number of visitors. Along with local customers the trail also sees many visitors from Canada, Rochester, Finger Lakes area, ... • 10. The Causes And Effects Of False Memory False memory can occur for many different reasons. Some factors include; that the human brain is very susceptible to suggestion, and the misinformation and misattribution of the original source of the information. Existing knowledge and other memories can also interfere with the formation of a new memory, causing the recollection of an event to be mistaken or entirely false. (VERYWELL CITE). For instance, memory researcher Elizabeth Loftus conducted experiments in the mid seventies on the effect of third parties incorporating false facts to memories. Subjects were shown a slide of a car at an intersection with either a yield sign or a stop sign. Experimenters asked participants questions, falsely introducing the term stop sign into the question instead of referring to the yield sign participants had actually seen. Similarly, experimenters falsely substituted the term yield sign in questions directed to participants who had actually seen the stop sign slide. The results indicated that subjects remembered seeing the false image. The introduction of false cues altered participants memories. (STANFORD JOURNAL). Then there is an original memory. By definition, an original memory is the process of interpretation that occurs at the very formation of memory thus introducing distortion from the beginning. Furthermore, witnesses can distort their own memories without the help of examiners, police officers or lawyers. (STANFORD JOURNAL). Our memory can be affected by us ... As a child s innocence gradually fade away due to maturity, he or she transforms into a compassionate person. In a coming of age short story, Marigolds, Eugenia Collier writes about a series of events where a young girl, named Lizabeth, develops into a compassionate person. Lizabeth narrates these events in a flashback that involve the marigolds of her neighbor, Miss Lottie. In effect, having Lizabeth destroy the marigolds gives Lizabeth a lesson that would turn her into a compassionate person. The night that the flowers became destroyed, Lizabeth had heard an argument between her parents. Significantly, she did not like how her father was being weak while her mother was being strong. Then, to let all her emotions out, she went to Miss Lottie s house to destroy the marigolds. After her deed, Lizabeth calms down and realizes Miss Lottie saw the mess. This moment was when Lizabeth realizes her destruction on the marigolds. The moment she saw Miss Lottie and her expression of the mess, Lizabeth comes to a realization of why Miss Lottie planted marigolds. Thinking back on her past, Lizabeth said Yet, there are times when the image of those passionate yellow mounds return with a painful poignancy. World War II brought technological breakthroughs and therefore the demand of houses and other real estate went up. • 15. European Expansion And Chinese Decline In The 1400s European Expansion and Chinese Decline in the 1400 s Describing China s influence as massive would be an understatement. For centuries, China had been the world s superpower, in terms of technological growth, financial security, and military might. By the end of the 1400 s however, that title had been transferred to Europe. A continent once exclusively known for its now fallen Roman Empire suddenly proves to be the primary actor on the global stage. To this very day, historians argue over a deceptively simple question: what changed? A series of political power struggles, threats from the North, and financial instability drove China back from its former glory, while Europe used the existing Silk Road and Indian Ocean trading systems to launch their success. Historians attempt to simplify the fall the fall of China. Often, the dismantling of the treasure fleet is pointed out as the culprit. In the early 1400s, there were 3,500 vessels in China s fleet; by 1440, that number had been drastically reduced (Levathes 174). Some historians refer to the event as the single greatest foreign policy blunder in history. Such a statement is a gross over exaggeration. The treasure fleet fell as a symptom, not a cause, of a failing China. After the death of emperor Zhu Zhanji in 1435, China fell victim to a political power struggle between two warring factions: the eunuchs and the Confucians (Levathes 175). Starting off with the story behind the problem, irrationality is demonstrated by the characters of Hera, Semele and her family. Hera symbolizes irrationality through her emotions, violence and chaos. She is jealous and revengeful of Zeus, who is unfaithful and had a child with another woman. She makes Semele, the mistress of Zeus, desire Zeus in his true form, ultimately leading to her death because no mortal could stand being exposed to so much power. Although Zeus is able to save their baby, this violence and chaos causes Dionysus family to hate him. Semele symbolizes irrationality through her emotions and disaster to the natural world. She may be lead by Hera to desire to see Zeus in his true form, but she knew there were going to be consequences. She also symbolizes disaster to the natural world by getting involved with the god of all gods and she brings chaos and hatred upon her family towards her son through her desires. Addie finds no comfort in motherhood once it becomes repetitious...the repetition entraps her (Tredell.) Due to this, Addie ended up having an affair and giving birth to Jewel, her prized son. This most likely did not sit well with Anse, and this contributed to the brokenness of the family way before the journey to Jefferson even began. Perhaps as an act of revenge, Anse ended up with another woman immediately following the end of the journey, which is an obvious sting in the wounds of the other family members still mourning Addie. Anse is a totally ineffectual individual who needs someone to take care of him (L. Roberts), and perhaps this was his way of trying to remain stable in the corrupted family, but does not realize the effects his egoism has on everyone else, not that he cares ... • 19. Comparison Of Soccer Balls Background Although a soccer ball may look like a sphere is not a real sphere. When you look closely at the actual ball you will see that it is polyhedron made of different shapes. A polyhedron is a three dimensional object composed of flat polygon sides typically connected at the edges (Wolfram 1999). The most common shape of modern soccer balls is called a truncated icosahedron. Icosahedron is a shape made up of 20 triangles. To create a more round object the icosahedron is truncated. Here, truncated applies to cutting off the edges which makes the icosahedron look more round ( Icosahedron, 2014). The truncated icosahedron has 32 total faces including 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons with 90 edges and 60 vertices ( Truncated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is critical that it stays at this length. Throughout the process check that the length stays at 5 cm. 2) Draw a line 5 cm long and label the points A and B (. 3) Draw 2 small arcs centered at point A and point B towards the center of the line AB. Label the point where the two arcs cross as point 1. This is the center of the regular hexagon and the vertices of the hexagon will be on a circle centered at this point. 4) Initially draw a full circle centered at point 1. The Wallpaper Of Purple By Steven Spielberg The Sexist Shade of Purple If Jaws was the movie that jumpstarted Steven Spielberg s career in the film industry, then The Color Purple was the movie that was able to distinguish Steven from any other movie director during the time. All of Spielberg s movies prior to 1985 were generally movies of either action packed adventure or unnerving horror, but once Steven Spielberg announced that he would be doing a movie based on Alice Walker s book, The Color of Purple, no one knew what to expect. In the 1950s and 1960s shops selling high order goods, like furniture and jewellery, were in the town and city centres, which attracted customers from a wide catchment area. Shops selling low order goods, like food, were located in the local neighbourhoods. However, this traditional shopping pattern began to change in the 1970s, when shops like supermarkets and DIY stores began to move to the outskirts of towns by decentralisation. Although it is obvious that the decentralisation of retailing and other services has had a major impact on urban areas, the impacts have been negative, positive or neutral. The Effect of the Vietnam War on the Australian Society The Vietnam War had great political impact and led to deep division within Australian society. The Australian people were forced to take the issues about the Cold War, Vietnam and the arms race seriously because of Australia s military involvement in Vietnam from 1962 to 1972. As a result, our fear of communism and of Asia increased dramatically. Australia, led by the Curtin Government at the time, at last realized the limits of British powers, yet desperate in need of allies and protectors, looked up to the United States as the only support to assist Australia. This realization made a great impact in the changes of the relationships between Britain and Australia. United States did come to rescue Australia in 1942 but the motive was for its self interest because Australia was the best place from which the Americans could apply its counter offenses against the Japanese, and when General MacArthur arrived in Australia he was greatly welcomed by the Australia government, seeing as they didn t have much choice other than follow US military strategies due to the fall of British power. For example, physics explains why rainbows have colours, what keeps a satellite in orbit, and what atoms and nuclei are made of. The goal of physics is to explain as many things as possible using as few laws as possible, revealing nature s underlying simplicity and beauty. Physics has been applied in many industrial fields, which include the air industry, construction industry, automobile industry, manufacturing industry and many others. The fluid moving over the top travels a greater distance than the moving just under the bottom of the wing. Consequently, the fluid moving over the top must travel faster in order to conform to the shape of the wing and still maintain the natural streamline. The shape of the wing also crowds the streamlines together above the wing, just as in the case of a constructing pipe. The result is that of the region immediately above the wing. Because the downward force on the top of the wing is less than the upward force on the bottom, a net upward force, or lift, arises from the airflow. (Beyond the airfoil the flowing air has a downward component of velocity. By Newton s third law, the reaction force to the net downward force exerted on the air is the lift.) For lift to occur, a flow of air is required relative to the wing. The lift occurs equally well for a wing moving through stationary air or for moving past a stationary wing. In general, as the flow of air past the wing increases, both the lift force and the drag force (the resistance to forward motion) increases. According to Breithaipt (2000), aircraft wings are designed so that pilots can change the wing shape during flight, producing greater lift for the slower speeds of takeoff and landing and producing less drag at cruising extended ... • 27. Theme Of God In The Doorway By Annie Dillard God! A figure of love and forgiveness to many, a figure of fear to others. Pulitzer Prize winning essayist Annie Dillard illustrates the differences and similarities on how one feels about God in her essays On a Hill Far Away and God in the Doorway . Dillard explores children s fear of God by comparing her portrayal of herself with the child on the hill, using common motifs, symbols, and differences of tone to contrast the two reactions. With the reverence of God also comes the fear of the almighty. This fear can push one away from society, setting one apart from the rest. Isolation is a motif prevalent in both essays, affecting the Dillard and the boy in different ways. Dillard reflects upon herself as a young girl in God in the Doorway where fear had driven her away from her loving family as she hides herself in her room. Her terror comes in the form of Santa Claus, causing her to run from her family. During the incident on Christmas Eve, Dillard recalls that her, mother called and called, enthusiastic, pleading; I wouldn t come down. My father encouraged me; my sister howled. I wouldn t come down (Dillard 138). Dillard s fear of Santa drove herself away from her family, causing Dillard to hide from her fear rather than confront it. In On a Hill Far Away , the boy s faith places him in a very different state of isolation. In contrast to Dillard, he didn t push himself away, but longed for company, someone who could understand him and his beliefs. In the essay, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The factors which contributed to its success will be discussed, as well as why, and its implications, of becoming public. To begin with, it would be beneficial to define both collusive behaviour and the nature of the competition involved in the aviation industry. During the setting of price, clear communication will most likely result in a non static equilibrium. As well as this, the symmetry in terms of the market and cost structures has played a part in creating a successful cartel. Each firm produces a relatively homogenous good in terms of economy, business or first class, with a limited amount of features it can differentiate itself from its competitors. As well as this, using Figure 1, which will be discussed later on, demonstrates that the main costs to an airline are those which cannot be easily reduced or offset, most notably the cost of fuel and aircraft maintenance. Therefore both firms have near perfect knowledge of the cost structure and revenue through observing prices, and will aid in choosing a certain pricing strategy. • 34. Visceral Response Hedda Gabler As I viewed Hedda Gabler, I had two visceral responses during two very important scenes. My first visceral response occurred when Hedda Gabler was being questioned by Commissioner Brack about the death of Ejlert Løvborg. This scene made me feel very uncomfortable. As I watched the commissioner push and throw Hedda around, I started thinking about domestic violence. It was a scary thing to watch, and it must be terrifying to experience. When the commissioner spit his drink on Hedda, I felt physically sick. Prior to this, I really did not like Hedda, but as Hedda began to realize that she had no power to stop the commissioner, my heart softened toward her. At the end of the play, I experienced another visceral response when Hedda committed suicide in order free herself from the power of the commissioner. I watched this play just three weeks after a family member committed suicide. He was in extreme physical pain, and there was nothing that doctors could do for him. He took his own life in order to free himself from this physical pain. Watching Hedda take her own life really made me sad for my own loss. I really wanted to leave the play, but since I really needed to view the final moments, I sat glued to my seat, hoping something else would happen that would make me feel better. When that did not occur, I was actually mad. This really was a difficult play for me to watch. Throughout the play, I noticed that I felt a connection with Berte. Berte, the maid in this story, sat in the corner for the entire play and was not really significant to the storyline. Her job was to inform Hedda Gabler and Jorgen Tesman who is entering the apartment. In a recent production of A Time to Kill at my community college, I played the part of Norma Gallo, the court reporter. During the scenes in which I was present, I sat typing on a typewriter and, like Berte, I was not very significant to the storyline. For the duration of the production, Berte is more or less a people watcher. Isabella s agency to protect Claudio, however, affirms her refusal to conform to biased societal views of women. Even though Isabella is moral in character, she breaks her modesty and passiveness by confronting Angelo, which presents her in a more masculine way. This masculine portrayal is ultimately highlighted by the ending of the play, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ambiguous ending of the play is an overarching representation of the kind of silence women receive in society. The Duke s marriage proposal to Isabella, is seen as a way of justice to preserve her moral reputation and to give her an identity, however, it also represents how much power he holds over her especially because she is unable to give an answer. This ambiguity and lack of response from Isabella s part can represent an implied agreement. Isabella is the female character with the most agency, but in this instance she is vulnerable and powerless. The Duke proclaims, If he be like your brother, for his sake, give me your hand and say you will be mine, (Act 5, Scene 1). The Duke takes advantage of his power by proposing to Isabella; he wants something in return for keeping her brother alive. This is the second time in the play when Isabella is confronted by a powerful and egotistical male figure. Isabella herself admits to Angelo that, Women are frail... Women? Help, Heaven! Men their creation man in profiting them. For we are soft as our complexions are, and credulous to false prints, (Act 2, Scene 4). Isabella recognizes that women are easily deceived and taken advantage of because they are powerless and inferior to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. I See The Desktop Picture Of My Grandfather s Computer Essay Whenever I see the desktop picture of my Grandfather s computer, I remember the date of my new journey. It s a pretty old photo and the background of it is a huge billboard with the phrase of Bon Voyage in Chinese. What s more interesting is how the two boys in the front are expressing two totally opposite facial expressions. The older one is trying his best to hold back to his tears and the younger one is just fooling around by the travelers. The fulfilled up baggage carts and the screens of departure times are a bit inharmonious to the overall setting, but it s the last picture before the older boy bursted into tears. I can still remember every details before and after that day. It s a normal Tuesday morning of my summer. Unlike the any usual morning, today, I wake up with the chatter of the sparrows. As the warm orange embraces me through the French windows in my bedroom, I change into the clothes that were place on my drawer since Sunday. While I was rushing out of the house to say goodbye to my friends, I can still see the unfinished Lego on the couch since the first day of vacation, but addition to that, there are twelve colorful suit cases and some of my Grandparents friends in the living room. After some quick greetings and a very quick bite of breakfast, I am in the front of my best friend s house. However, the only person that come out after my 10 minutes, unstopped pressing of doorbell is her mother. Why are you here so early, she didn t even wake up yet! ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The atmosphere is always pressured between the father and son and none of them sleeps at night. They used to be close to talk, laugh and do a lot of things together among them, go fishing. Now the son is very stuffy and shares nothing with his father, he doesn t tell him where he goes, not even when the father asks. • 40. Letter To Ephesians Essay Historical Background In the beginning of the book of Ephesians, Paul specifically states that he is the author of the letter to Ephesians, though the authenticity of Paul s authorship has been questioned. Signing the name of an influential person of the period was common practice from the third century BC to the first century AD. Though it would not be the first time that Paul s name was forged, Ephesians is not a controversial letter, so if the author did not want to include his own name, he could have written the letter anonymously; also, given moral influence of the text, the author would not have lied for no cause. Ephesians is a bit different from the other letters of Paul in that it does not follow the normal structure he has previously used: salutation, thanksgiving, prayer, body, ethical exhortations, greetings. Paul also makes many personal references throughout the book of Ephesians including sharing that he is in prison. During the time the letter was written, most believe that Paul was in a prison in Rome. He wrote three letters at around the same time. One letter was to the Colossians; one letter was to Philemon, whose slave, Onesimus, had recently run away; the final letter was to the church that Paul had started in Ephesus. The messenger that carried the letters to the church of Colossae most likely passed through the sea port and great city at Ephesus. Working in Ephesus for at least two years, Paul expanded the reach of the Gospel to the entire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Vacation Gone Awry Essays I lay asleep in the car crammed between my brother and my sister; I open my eyes just in time to see a sign with half of the lights burnt out that read State Bridge, Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging. By the looks of the sign, I had a feeling that this place was going to be a dump. The word resort led me to believe it wasn t that bad. The thought I always kept in the back of my mind was what a Hawke family vacation was. We would always spend the least amount of money as we could, and we would leave as soon as possible. This, to my dad, was the greatest vacation. My dad had this great last minute idea of going to his sister s house in Steamboat Springs for Christmas. My family is known for last minute planning. My sister and I tried to stay awake as long as possible, but I found my self drifting off quite frequently and laying my head on my brother s shoulder. I knew that this was going to cause havoc later because he hated when I would do that. I decided that it would cause less controversy if I looked at a magazine. I turned on the light and after a few minutes of reading, the light blinked once and burned out. Sleeping seemed to be my only other option. Finally, I saw the first sign that showed the word vacancy . This place looked considerably nice. When my dad stepped out of the van to go check in to the hotel, two police cars drove up with their sirens screaming and lights flashing. Dazed and confused, I was trying to figure out what the commotion was. Then I noticed a man lying on the side of the highway next to the curb. The two police officers got him to his feet and helped him stagger to the back seat of the police car. He obviously had too much to drink. With the blink of an eye, the police officers were gone and my dad was back in the van in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say, we were not going to stay there so we were off to the next town. The next closest town, if one could call it a town, was State Bridge. It looked to be an old mining town with nothing in it except for a so called resort. The lights of a sign that said, State Bridge Resort, Saloon, Restaurant, and Lodging were flickering as if they were going to burn out. My dad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Shakespeare s Sonnet #73 Essay Shakespeare s Sonnet #73, published in 1609, is written in the Shakespearean or English sonnet style. It consists of three quatrains and one couplet at the end, written in iambic pentameters. Each quatrain has its own rhyme scheme, rhyming in alternating lines. The couplet summarizes the preceding twelve lines. Sonnet 73 appears to contain multiple parallels to death and the person speaking in the poem gives the impression that he is near death and reflecting back upon life. The first quatrain, That time of the year thou mayst behold me/ When yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang/ Upon those boughs which shake against the cold/ Bare ruin choirs where late the sweet bird sang. He plays upon the sun setting, which in some cultures was a god dying every evening (and he would be reborn every morning). The sun setting could also be regarded as the sun going to sleep, which plays on the last line of the quatrain, quot;Death s second self, which seals upon rest. quot; This line talks of the eternal sleep, or death. This quatrain suggests a night without the possibility of day, quot;seals upon rest. quot; In the third quatrain, In me the glowing of such fire/ That on the ashes of his youth doth lie/ As the deathbed whereon it must expire/ Consuming with that which it was nourished by. He seems to compare his life to fire, burning bright in youth, when energy and ideas bound forth, but eventually it all turns to ashes, fragments of the passing youth, essentially death. He also makes implications of lying upon the ashes, his deathbed, of days gone by, days when he was young and full of energy. The fire proposes finality, the non cyclical process that night and the seasons are part of, which Shakespeare has worked towards in the poem. • 43. The Code Switching Language Teaching The code switching language taught me a new way to reach my future students on a grammatical level in any part of the state I choose to teach in. Code switching is teaching that informal and formal language is neither incorrect nor correct but which form is appropriate for the situation that the student is in. The method improves grammar and the students grasp on written and spoken English, while not focusing on the students ability to write a correct sentence. While learning about code switching the process reminded me of an urban slang dictionary being used. A code switching lesson consists of four individual lessons to be used in order and repeated if the concept is not grasped. The first lesson is identifying the pattern that is ... Learning about dialects was another interesting topic we discussed in class, the topic made me really think deep about what kind of dialect I use in everyday life. Dialects are a specific variation of a language in a particular region or ethic group with individualized phonological features to wide range of groups. A large part of decoding dialects is the understanding of the International Phonetic Alphabet, phonology, and phonemes used in the different areas you might be teaching in. Phonology is the study of sound and phonemes is the smallest unit of sound both are key to use and listen for when in a new region of the country. The International Phonetic Alphabet represents the sounds letters make for a spoken language and when written the word reads as a certain dialect. Lexical features of dialects are the preferred terms of words used in certain dialects with different synonyms used by other dialects. Learning about dialects also taught me how people code switch from home to public settings. I speak a Northern Jersey with a small amount of classic southern mixed into my dialect. Allowing me to understand multiple dialects including Standard English. My stronger northern accent may cause me teaching in areas with a strong southern accent to be a little bit of a struggle with my students and myself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Are Video Games Art No But Playing Them Can Be Summary In response to the article titled, Are Video Games Art? No But Playing Them Can Be, by author Phil Hartup, he makes the argument that video games are not art, but rather the audience that engages themselves in playing them makes it art. The author uses examples such as Mona Lisa and Michael Bay just to support his claim, and while his claims are interesting, some of the stuff he says can be ridiculous, in my opinion. I, myself, disagree with most of his claims. Video games have a big influence on communities just like art, and not only that, but without graphic ARTISTS, we wouldn t be able to have these video games that we have today. Video games, in my opinion have so much creativity in them that they should be considered as art. Hartup introduces his claim by giving examples of art such as the Mona Lisa and a few examples of things with what Michael Bay does in movies. There is no direct dialogue with art, says Hartup, in which this case, I must disagree. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, meaning that all those details in paintings you see must give you some dialogue if you think about it. Many people around the world are influenced and engaged with the dialogue of art, trying to find a deep meaning to them, just like they are engaged in most video games in the same way. There is a lot of controversy with people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was very structured and well put together, but in the end, I don t agree with most of the things he says. I believe that if video games can tell a story and make the players feel like they got something out of it, just like how art does as well, then why is there such a big controversy over this topic? The way I see it, and how I will continue to see it, is that video games is just like art due to the emotions it brings to players, and by me saying that it s like art, I think it s safe to say that in a way, it is ...
