Compost
Introduction Irisses work well in beds, borders and foundation plantings.

With its six petaled flowers that range in color from yellow, white and pink to blue, red and
purple, iris (Iris spp.) can be an attractive addition in the garden. Iris consists of more than 200
species, many of which are hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zone 3. Siberian
iris (Iris sibirica) and crested iris (Iris cristata), for instance, can thrive in USDA plant hardiness
zones 3 through 9. (See References 1) Although commonly grown true to type by division, irises
can also grow from seed, although they don t grow true to the parent plant. (See References 2)
Step 1
Harvest the seedpods from an iris plant after it s done blooming in the fall. If pollinated, find the
pods on the plant below faded flowers. Remove them from the plant when they are partially green
and start to split open. Shell the pods to reveal about 60 seeds per pod. (See References 3)
Step 2
Fill a small bowl with enough water to submerse the seeds. Place the seeds in the bowl and allow
them to soak. Every day, drain the liquid, pouring it in a strainer so you catch the seeds. Refill the
bowl with fresh water and place the seeds back in it. Do this for up to two weeks to eliminate the
germination inhibiting properties of the seeds. (See References 4)
Step 3
Mix 1 part bleach with 10 parts water in a bowl. Soak the seeds in this bleach solution

However, Bethune was not intimidated and on October 3rd, 1904 opened the doors of the
Daytona Normal and Industrial Institute for Negro Girls. Her rent was 11 dollars a month and she
would charge the small group of young ladies fifty cents a week for tuition. The local black
community and church fully supported Bethune by taking up collections and selling chicken

What Is The Mood Of Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer and poet who wrote literary works during the early
1800 s. He lived a troubled life and suffered through the deaths of many of those he loved, such
as his wife and mother; this pain and emotion was often portrayed in Poe s writing. In one of his
most famous poems, The Raven , Poe writes, from the perspective of a man, about his encounters
with a talking bird and the discussion he has about the whereabouts of his lost love. In this poem,
Poe uses different literary devices to emphasize the desperation that the narrator feels. These
advanced writing techniques portray a deeper meaning into the story and lead the reader to
interpret a specific mood. One way that Poe expresses the urgency of the this character is by using
internal rhyme. By rhyming two words within a line it further accents them and emphasizes their
meaning. Specifically, he uses this rhyme to develop mood and how it changes throughout the
story. When the narrator says Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, in
the first stanza, the words dreary and weary rhyme. This rhyme draws... Show more content on

By repeating words or phrases it draws attention to these words and adds a level of importance to
them. In the beginning stanzas, by repeating the narrator s dialogue it emphasizes his need to
console himself and his fear of the possibilities of what could be outside his door. The narrator
tells himself Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door and repeats it in the next
line, hereby assuring himself of his safety. Later in the poem, Poe repeats phrases in order to
highlight the narrator s desperate need to have more information about his lost love, Lenore. The
narrator yells at the raven Tell me truly, I implore /... tell me tell me, I implore. This repetition by
the speaker illustrates his frantic need for news of

Anthropology Personal Narrative
It all began on July 5, 2015, when my family and I traveled back from Fort Davis, Texas, to our
home in Gardendale, Texas, after visiting our family for a Fourth of July celebration. As we entered
into Odessa, we noticed vehicles stranded on the interstate that impeded our progress. Irritably, we
were forced to stop in the middle of the road. Instantly, the music paused. In frustration, I started
switching the stations; nevertheless, all remained silent. After several minutes of scanning dead air,
finally the radio connected to the station, 93.3 FM. An emergency broadcast announcer alerted the
entire Permian Basin area that a group of oil drillers, near the Meteorite Crater, struck a barrel,
buried twenty two feet under the ground.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

abundantly amount of meals ready to eat. Ideally, these meals served as our survival food. The
meals ready to eat were undetectable by these flesh seeking zombies. Also, the meals ready to eat
tremendously helped us, because we stopped cooking with electric devices, fearing the risk of
exposure. For approximately six years, the tasty, fuel filling meals fundamentally provided us with
the needed nutrients and energy for our daily routines and activities. On many of my supply

The Importance Of Mandatory Voting
Do we enjoy to do things we do not like to do? No that is why voting should be an option not a
requirement. We as Americans have the right to say yes or no to things that we want and don t
want to do. If the law gets passed for requiring us to vote there will be many conflicts. Such as
people who are not legalized to vote in the United stateswhat will happen to them? Or people who
have never voted a day in there life, why should they now? There are many question and debates on
this topic. Voting should not be mandatory because it violated the first amendments, it will not
change political ignorance, violates civil liberties.
First of all forcing civilians to vote is against our amendments. Our civil rights say we have the
right to speak, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not everyone wants to vote and in my opinion it should be a choice to vote or not. Not everyone
wants to vote or thinks their vote will make a big difference or impact. Making people vote goes
against a lot of rules and can lead to problems with the law. Americans have the right to stand up
for themselves. We have the right to do what we want to do. We do not have to do things we do
not want to do such as voting. Whether people vote or not should be the least of our worries. We
have worse problems in this world then worrying about if people are voting or not. The
government cannot make people vote it is our choice to vote or not to vote. We are our own
people and we stand up for what we believe

Russian Revolution Research Paper
The Russian Revolution
The Russian Revolution was an extremely difficult time for everyone. The events that occurred
lead to the idea of communism today. A great amount of events occurred during the years leading
up to the revolution. First, Russia had already faced many other wars and the country was
struggling because of lack of communication from their Emperor Tsar Nicholas II. Next, during the
revolution, Nicholas II was pushed out of office and the country started to follow the ideas of
Lenin and the Bolsheviks. The February and October Revolutions also took place during the span
of time known as the Russian Revolution. Towards the end of the revolution a war between the

These regions were located in the east, the south and the northwest of the Soviet Union. These were
also the three major parts of the war. During the time of this war there was little rain which caused
great famine. According to the Library of Congress about 1 million Russians had left Russia during
this time of hardship and moved to other countries permanently. Eventually, Lenin and the
Bolsheviks defeated the Whites and then named themselves the Communist Party. This was how

Essay on Book Banning and First Amendment Right
What is a banned book? A banned book is a book that has been removed from the shelves; it
could be from a library, classroom, or even the bookstore because of its content. A book could be
banned for many reasons, but it could be banned because it contains sex, violence, inappropriate
language, religious viewpoints, witch craft, and many more things because other people deem it
inappropriate. When someone bans a book they ban it for everyone else too. The First Amendment
states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the
free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people

Even the Catholic Church supported censorship, in the seventieth century they wanted to censor
Galileo because he believed that they church was wrong about the planets revolving around
Earth. He believe that the sun was in the center and all of the plants revolved around it and they
made him burn all of his writings. As United States citizens, we have the right of freedom of
expression; the First Amendment of the United States constitution states, Congress shall make no
law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging
the freedom of speech, or the press... (First Amendment Oct. 20, 2013). As this concerns books,
people should have the freedom to choose what they want to read and what they don t want to

Lady Bugs Research Paper
The ladybug is probably one of the most widely known insects throughout the United States. But
did you know ladybugs practice cannibalism? Lady bugs seem basic but they are actually very
interesting. There are 5000 different types of ladybugs. Lady bugs are one of the most beneficial
insects. In this essay there are some new things you might learn about lady bugs.
Lady bugs, or as known in the scientific world, coccinellidae, can range from about 2 to 10 mm in
size, depending on species. Their lifespan is about 2 3 years, also depending on species. The
bright red/ orange coloration of lady bugs are one of the most distinctive characteristics of this
bug. This coloration signals to its predators that the bug is poisonous. Which it is. Ladybugs

The predators of a ladybug can range from birds to fellow insects to sometimes even young,
clueless children. Insects such as dragonflies, assassin bugs, wasps or ants can consume
ladybugs. Other predators include tree frogs, anoles, parasites, fungi and mites. All of these
predators can eat ladybugs, but often they will eat them very few times because, when eaten,
they leave a terrible taste. This is one way that the ladybug defends himself. While ladybugs
have a variety of predators they also have a list of prey they like to snack on. Ladybugs are can
be known as a gardners best friend because their diet can consist of small plant killers like
whiteflies, mites, cabbage moths and mealybugs, which by themselves can be harmless but in
large numbers can destroy a garden. That s why a ladybug can be considered not only beneficial
but essential to have a thriving garden. While ladybugs can eat garden pests they can be considered

Introduction
A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn reputation by trying to do hard
things well. Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com
Brands are the visual representation of a company, its culture, its people, products and vision. All
these put together embody and give life to the brand, assigning and defining certain traits and values
to be associated with it. Branding is the representation of those values as conveyed to the universe,
whether to its customers, stakeholders or the world at large.

Man represents the extra rubber on their tires, and the multi colored Apple logo represents
creativity. [pic][pic] C) Words: The name used can represent certain qualities related to the product

All these elements come together to make a brand.
The brand has a number of facets, which help flesh out the brand and separate it from others. A)
Brand Identity: The individual elements that come together to separate a brand from all others are
known as the brand identity of a product. The visual elements such as color, size, verbal elements
such as name and even sound elements go into making up the brand identity, e.g. Nokia s signature

target audience. B) Brand Personality: The Brand Personality is the attribution of certain behavioral
traits such as honesty, youth, and intellectualism and so on. These characteristics signify behavior

Essay on Societies’ Take on Gender and Disney Movies
Societies Take on Gender and Disney Movies
When I was younger and learning about life is when I probably watched the most television. I
fell in love with watching animated television shows and movies; in fact the first movie I had
ever seen in theatres was Aladdin in 1992, a well known Disney classic. Disney movies became
my all time favorite. Now watching them I have come to the realization of how they could affect
how any child s views on different gender roles. As Michael Kimmel explains We now know that
gender is one of the central organizing principle around which social life revolves. (Kimmel, 2) The

Although it looks a lot cooler than a big scab, a new tattoo is also a wound and like any other
scrape, puncture, cut or penetration to your skin, a tattoo is at risk for infections and disease.
You need to make sure you are up to date with your immunizations (especially hepatitis and
tetanus shots) and plan where you will get medical care if your new tattoo does become
infected. Signs of infection include excessive redness or tenderness, prolonged bleeding, pus, or
changes in your skin color around the tattoo. If you have a medical problem such as heart
disease, allergies, diabetes, skin disorders or any condition that affects your immune system or are
prone to infections, you should ask your doctor before deciding to get a tattoo. Also, if you are
prone to getting keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue in the area of the wound), it s probably best
to avoid getting a tattoo altogether.
Avoiding Infection It s very important to make sure the tattoo studio is clean and safe, and that all
equipment is disposable (needles, gloves, masks, etc.) and that everything is sterilized. You can call
your state, county, or local health department to ask for recommendations on licensed tattoo shops,
or to ask about any complaints about a particular studio.
Professional studios take pride in their cleanliness; here are a few things to check for:

The Cedar Fire

Research Paper
It was on October 21, 2003 at 5:37 pm that the nightmare started. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire ,
spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and
houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003.
It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from
Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald
Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle
before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two
small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his
chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm.
But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez
was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly Hills, California one week later. He claims he was
doing what he learned in his hunter safety course back in 2002.
Much damage was done to homes, families, and personal belongings. Martinez said the following

Dental Ethical Issues
In a lot of ways, ethics can be very opinionated. Sure, there are guidelines such as code of
conduct, but, just like things such as religion, it can be based all in how you interpret it and how
you apply it. Unfortunately, many bad things are done for the greater good. As dentistry is gearing
more towards aesthetics, ethical issues have been becoming more on the raise than ever before.
Some ethical issues of concern in the dental chair would be things like patient autonomy or over
diagnosis/treatment. Now a days, more and more people have sought after that perfect hollywood
smile. With this becoming in higher demand, restorations, such as veneers or crowns, are being
used to cover up defects in the teeth rather than as a treatment to restore... Show more content on

Most of the time the decision is made to oblige the patient. I have only mentioned a couple issues
here, but there are issues involving overtreatment for the gain of more money, under treatment,
violations to patient autonomy and violations to patient confidentiality. As a rising senior in the
dental hygiene program, I am faced with ethical issues probably every day. We sometimes have
patients come in who need treatment that is way past our scope of practice. What do we do?
We do what we can for them, that is within our scope of practice, and refer them out. However, I
ve heard plenty of stories from our instructors dealing with dentists who will perform oral
surgery and even orthodontics when they are not specialized in it. Is it legal? Actually, yes it is.
All dentists are provided with training in these areas while in school. The real question is: is it
ethical? Personally I would say no, because these dentists are not on the profession skill level of
a dentist who has specialized in that area. But, this does happen very often. I ve had time studying
some case studies in order to figure out what my ethical beliefs are in order to better place myself
when I graduate. Thanks to the American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA), we are provided
with Principles of Ethics as well to help us navigate through some of the ethical issues that might
sit in our chair that day. However, the dilemmas will require us to dig down deep and make the
decision for ourselves as too what we think is

William Paley s Views Of The Evidence Of Christianity
William Paley
I.Abstract:
Born in Peterborough, England in July 1743, William Paley was a natural philosopher and
wrote many books on Christianity. Before working his way through the ranks of the Anglican
Church, Paley graduated first of his class from Christ s College in Cambridge in 1763, became a
deacon in 1765, and was appointed assistant curate by a tutor of the college in 1766. He opposed
slavery, advocated for prison reform, and was a utilitarian. He believed that humans act morally
to increase their overall level of happiness. Paley had eight children with his wife, Jane Hewitt
married in 1776. He was a very popular preacher publishing many lectures and books and is
considered one of England s most important theologians of his generation. William Paley died on
May 25th, 1805 and is currently buried next to his wife in the Carlisle Cathedral.

before his death in 1805) is called Natural Theology; or, Evidences of the Existence and Attributes
of the Deity, Collected from the Appearances of Nature (1802). In Natural Theology, Paley begins
with a metaphor of God as a watchmaker. He argues that God can be understood by observing the
natural world and the only conclusion in this metaphor is that the watch or design must have had a

Archetype InThe LambBy William Blake
Blakes Archetypes William Blake is one of the most famous poets in the Romantics period. A
unique thing about Blake is his ability to not only write poems but to be able to combine that
with his artistic ability. Every poem that Blake writes is not printed, but is handwritten with a
piece of his artwork. Blake is also very well known for his two opposite Archetypes. An Archetype
is when something symbolizes something else. In addition to the symbols an archetype can also
have background or a story behind it. William Blakewrote four poems, The Lamb, The Chimney
Sweeper, The Tyger, and Infant Sorrow where in each of these we can infer that about the two
archetypes, songs of innocence and songs of experience. The Lamb by William Blake belongs
in the song innocence category. When a person thinks of a lamb they think of a sweet animal
who could do no harm, and this is exactly what songs of innocence means. In some ways the
lamb is pure and childish. Lambs do not have anger and do not really care how things workout.
In the poem, The Lamb by William Blake he explains, Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest
clothing wooly delight (lines 5 6). Blake recognizes all the good qualities that lamb s posses and
is very positive about the lamb although it may not be the smartest animal. In God s eye his son
is lamb. To continue with the Archetype of innocence, The Chimney Sweeper is another
example of a symbol. Innocence means not having experience, helplessness, and without evil. In
the poem, The Chimney Sweeper Blake shows this character trait. Throughout this poem Blake
tells the story of a young orphan boy whose mother died when he was very small and his father
sold him to an orphanage. These events led to a very dangerous and traumatizing childhood.
When a child lives in an orphanage they are used a laborer. A chimney sweeper would climb up
into wealthier people s chimneys and clean them. In the story, The Chimney Sweeper, William

First Thanksgiving Essay
It is undoubted that holidays history is the point of entry to any living cultures. In specific, the
United States national holiday in November Thanksgiving reflects the country s culture of
consumerism. The first documented Thanksgiving meal in America was between the Spanish
settlers, and the Timucua tribe in La Florida in 1565 (Franklin 19). Interestingly, the main courses
were salt pork and garbanzo beans offered by the Spanish and alligator meat offered by the Native
Americans (Franklin 19). Nonetheless, most Americans associate the first Thanksgivingwith the
moment when the Pilgrims shared a three day feast with the Wampanoag in 1621 (McCabe 52).
Throughout the history, Americans have twisted the cornerstone of the Thanksgiving feast to create
new traditions.

Since wildfowls were high status foods in England , the Pilgrims unquestionably wanted them
for the feast (McCabe 52). Winslow mentioned that men were sent out to hunt wildfowls,
including goose or duck (Evans 86). Contrary to American s wide imaginations, turkeys were not
the centerpiece of the first Thanksgiving due to many reasons, such as they were hard to catch,
and the meat was tough and lean (Evans 86). There is a possibility that the Pilgrims utilized
home grown herbs and precious imported spices to season their foods (P. Baker and J. Baker
56). Nevertheless, they were more likely to boil the meats, since roasting was very laborious in
the old days (P. Baker and J. Baker 56). On the other hand, the Wampanoag killed five deer to bring
to the feast (McCabe 52). Venison is believed to be the main dish of the traditional American

The Struggle to Belong and Find One’s Place Is Significant...
The struggle to belong and find one s place is significant in the lives of some people.
In what ways is this represented in your prescribed text and ORT? PHOEBE ATKINSON
A person s basic human need to belong to people, places and circumstances can fuel many of their
actions throughout their life. For some people a sense of belonging can be difficult to obtain. The
struggle to belong is represented in many ways in the 1998 memoir, Romulus, My Father by
Raimond Gaita. Through Gaita s employment of various writing techniques and his recollection of
past events and adversities, the reader becomes aware of the many struggles of the characters,
particularly to belong to the Australian culture and landscape. In the 2001 short story Mate , ... Show

The imagery formed by group of men glaring at Will from inside the car, further alienates him as
he truly appears an outsider . This is similar to how Romulus lack of understanding of the
Australian landscape continuously reinforces him as a foreigner, exposes him to ridicule and
prevents him from belonging in society, such as when Romulus caused a fire that burnt 20
hectares of his neighbors property. The use of an intertextual reference to Dorothea Mackellar s
poem My Country shows how even though Will thought he had sufficient knowledge of, and
belonging to Australian society, his lack of first hand experience and true understanding of real
country life disables him from belonging to Boolowa and its people. Even Will s attempts to fit in
by buying the Akubra and the elastic sided boots were futile because his city bugger aura was
obvious to the country folk .
Differences in a person s social context and hobbies can sometimes create barriers to belong to a
community. In Romulus, My Father a comparison is drawn between Raimond and typical
Australian farm boys, I had virtually no interest in farm life... (p.60) and ...I was the only boy in
the area who did not kill rabbits... These comparisons alienated Raimond and perhaps disabled him
from creating strong friendships with the farm boys because of a lack of common interests. Later in
the story Raimond recognised

Introduction . Flammable Gasses Can Be Very Dangerous Mostly
Introduction Flammable gasses can be very dangerous mostly when it comes to highly volatile
products. This is because they can evaporate at very low temperatures, may be room temperature
and due to their low energy of activation to react. Highly volatile products are that dangerous
because they cannot be seen, can evaporate any single moment, regardless of the size of leakage,
they spread very fast among many other risks. This was the case at one of the manufacturing plants
in Massachusetts, Arnel chemical plant. The plant was responsible for manufacturing printer paints

of the worst accidents ever recorded in the American history. The blast. It was too strong that any

Violated standards and how the incident could have been prevented The government has a set of

unroadworthy car is not authorized to be on the road for the risk that it exposes to people, then the
same applies to manufacturing plants Automatic response programs in this plant were very poorly
ensured. If the people who were setting the plant cared about the magnitude of the risk they were
dealing with they were dealing with; they would have elected automatic shutdown apparatus on the
mixing tanks. From the record, the plant did not have any automatic pressure mixing shutdown
procedure nor temperature monitors that could be used to prevent situations from being worse.
There was also very minimal and poor observation of the plant. It was reported that there were no

In some people with ALS, the parts of the brain that allow us to think, remember, and learn also
are affected by the disease (Labby). C. Strictly speaking, ALS involves degeneration and death of
both upper and lower motor neurons. While most patients have clear loss of both types of motor
neurons, some patients have greater loss of upper motor neurons, while other patients have
greater loss of lower motor. These differences do not change the diagnosis. In these
circumstances, the more general term motor neuron disease is appropriate (MDA). D.
According to the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association), the diagnosis of ALS is a clinical
diagnosis, meaning there is no specific test for it. Often, tests will be administered to rule out
illnesses with similar symptoms. These may include an MRI of the brain or spinal cord, an
electromyography (EMG) study of nerve and muscle function, and a variety of blood and urine
tests. (Transition: Now that we know a little about what ALS is, let s talk a little bit about who

disease are adults between 40 and 70, but younger and or older people can develop this disease.

Parenting Styles and Child Rearing
Parenting style is very important in child rearing and can have consequences in the way that a child
develops and can have long term effects on children and their personality later in life. Diana
Baumrind developed her ideas of parenting styles and their effects by studying 100 preschool
children and their parents. Although most of the subjects of her study were Californian middle
class European Americans, thus not offering much diversity in her study, the results were very
persuasive and interesting. Baumrind found that parents varied on four dimensions: expression of
warmth, strength of discipline, communication, and expectation of maturity. Using these
dimensions as the basis Baumrind developed three main classifications of parenting... Show more

Finally there is a fourth parenting style which isn t grouped with the other three this is the
neglectful/uninvolved parenting style which is described as an indifferent approach towards
parenting where the parent isn t aware of the child s life, the parent is just uninvolved and doesn
t care to punish or praise the child. There are implications depending on the type of parenting
style that was used on the child. If a child grew up with authoritarian parents for example would
grow up to be well behaved, obedient but unhappy, likely depressed, and would also likely leave
home before the age of 20. Children that grow up with permissive parents would grow up to be
dependent on parents living at home into adulthood, would lack emotional control, self control and
would be unhappy as adults. Finally the child that grows up with authoritative parents, it seems
would grow up to be the best adjusted out of the three styles. A child with authoritative parents
would be well adjusted, happy, generous, and successful. They are also well regarded by others
especially in western individualistic societies. Now the text does warn that the parenting style
which ends up working the best for each child should be dependent on various factors such as the
child s temperament, these are after all generalizations. Parenting styles and the consequences of
parenting styles is very interesting because it can help parents ensure that their child grows up to be
well adjusted. If parents

this money goes towards several programs including Medicaid, which a whopping 81% of these

Merger And Acquisition Of A Merger
A merger takes place when two companies joint together to form a single company. A merger is
alike to a takeover or acquisition, except that in the case of a merger remaining stakeholders of
both companies involved retain a shared interest in the new company. By contrast, in an
acquisition one company purchases a bulk of a second company s stock, creating an uneven
balance of ownership in the new combined company. Acquisition refers to buying out another
company and taking it into the fold of the acquiring company. This is done by paying the
acquired company, the value of its capital and depending upon the situations, a premium over the
capital amount. Acquisitions and mergers both involve one or multiple companies purchasing all
or part of another company. The main difference between a merger and an acquisition is how
they are financed. By acquiring a small company with a good technology, a big company can
develop a competitive advantage for example; recently Facebook acquired Instagram and
Whatsapp. This means to stay competitive; company needs to remain on top of technological
development and buyer will need to pay an amount if they want to acquire the company and for
seller, that premium represents their company s future growth. Merger or acquired its increases

The Responsibility Of Dorm Directors
One of the number one priorities here at the college is to ensure that we are providing our students
with a safe and secure environment that is conducive for learning. At an institution that provides
Residence Halls for students, it is important to remember that the safety measures extended to those
residence halls also. According to Sokolow (2004), there are three questions that a riskmanager has
to address when assessing risks, can the risk can be avoided, can the risk be transferred, or if the
risk can be accepted (p. 90). The purpose of this audit is to identify the policies and practices that
are in place that could potentially be a legal liability for the institution. In order to conduct this risk
assessment, we will utilize the three category assessment: low risk bring searches, moderate risk of
personal property, and high risk of mental health awareness and violence (Sokolow, 2004, p. 88)
Searches
Part of the responsibility of Dorm Directors is to report any illegal activity that may occur on the
premises. A possible infraction may result in a dorm director or campus police performing a search
of the room. There have been numerous complaints from students that there have been illegal
searchers of their rooms. In some of these instances, the students were not present, and those who
were present stated that they did not grant permission for officers to search. The issue with this is

Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to
commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often
confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just
comes knocking on one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love

considered very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The

So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem

Plea Bargaining In Criminal Justice
I did not watch the film, Criminal Justice: Nothing Cuts Deeper, but I thought you both brought up
interesting points about plea bargaining in your analyses. I did not realize that plea bargains were
as common as they are until Crystal pointed out that in 1989, less than 2% took their cases to trial.
That is a shockingly low number! Abraham also pointed out that this means that defendants are
waiving important rights, protected by the Fifth and Sixth Amendments: the right to a jurytrial, the
right against self incrimination, and the right to confront hostile witnesses. As far as I understand,
the foundations of the American criminal justice process are built around these essential rights! In

So the trial is meant to achieve either determining guilt and issuing appropriate punishment for the
crime and to prevent innocent people from being punished for a crime that they did not commit.
Stephanos Bibas, a professor of Law and Criminology argues that everyone trusted that trials
remained as safety valves whenever guilt was in real doubt. The vast majority of defendants are
factually and legally guilty, but surely, we assumed, those who are innocent would persist to
vindicate their names at trial. Unfortunately, because of pressures by the prosecution and fears of
long, harsh sentences, poorly informed, poorly educated, and poorly represented defendants are far
from the fully informed, rational actors. (Bibas, 2016). This means that some innocent people are
taking a plea bargain for fear of greater punishment, even if they did not actually commit the crime.
They have so little faith in the process of a trial working correctly that they feel it better to agree to
a lesser punishment despite their innocence. Whether their lack of faith in the trial process is
warranted or not, this signifies that there is something fundamentally wrong with the criminal justice

Plate Tectonics Research Paper
Have you ever wondered why our continents are in the positions that they are in today? Plate
Tectonics can be used to explain the movement of the plates and the landforms they make. These
landforms include mountains, volcanoes, rift valleys, and much more that are made by convergent
and divergent boundaries. The plates are moved by the convection currents below the surface
which is caused by a heat source, the mantle. Another landform that is made is a mid ocean ridge,
at which sea floor spreading is taken place, and allows magma to rise and harden on the ocean floor.
Two different types of landforms that form at convergent boundaries are mountains and volcanoes.
Mountains, such as Mount Everest and K2, are formed when two continental plates collide, which
causes the landforms to rise. Volcanoes, such as Mount Saint Helens and Mount Fuji, forms when
the more dense oceanic plate subducts under the less dense continental plate and is driven down
into the hot asthenosphere. Subducted plate melts due to extreme heat and friction. Melted plate
rises up through the crust, where it reaches the surface and cools. Those weak spots allow the
magma to come out, forming into lava. There are also volcanic island arcs, which form when two
oceanic plates collide, and continental volcanic arcs, which forms when an ... Show more content on

Mid Ocean Ridges, such as the Mid Atlantic Ridge, are formed when two oceanic plates move
away from each other, allowing magma to rise up from inside the Earth. The magma reaches the
bottom of the ocean, turns into lava and cools, forming new rock. This cycle continues constantly
spreading the sea floor and adding new material along this chain of mountains. Rift Valleys, such as
Baikal Rift Valley, are formed when two continental plates move away from each other, stretching
out the crust, until it begins to break. As crust is stretched wider, the valley drops

Defense, Necessity Defense And Affirmative Defense
According to the United States constitution every American Citizen is entitled to a trial and an
attorney. With the right to a trial and an attorney those accused also have a right to bring up a
defense in justifying or excusing their actions. In this essay I will be looking at defenses such as
self defense, necessity defense and affirmative defense. This essay will serve as a guide to what
these defenses really mean and when it is acceptable to use them. A defense is when a defendant
and his or her attorney provide evidence on why they should not be held accountable for the
crime they have ben accused. The purpose of a defense is so a person won t be held responsible
for the crimes they have committed. There are two kinds of defenses a factual defense and a
legal defense. A factual defense is when a defended simply states that they didn t commit the
crime, such as providing an alibi. Where as a legal defense a defendant may have committed the
crime but should face no legal liability. There are two kinds of legal defense justifications and
excuses. An Affirmative defense is when a defendant provides evidence, which can influence the
legal responsibility the defendant will be held responsible for, even if the defendant committed the
crime in question. An affirmative defense may completely exonerate a defendant but it may also
just lower the charges brought against the defended. For example a person who is charged with
first degree murder can be found not guilty using

Peaceful Resistance Movement Essay
In the early summer of 1942, a gathering of young fellows including Willi Graf, Christoph Probst
and Hans Schol shaped an a peaceful resistance amass in Nazi Germany, comprising of various
understudies from the College of Munich and their reasoning educator. The gathering got to be
distinctly known for a mysterious pamphlet crusade, enduring from June 1942 until February 1943,
that called for dynamic resistance to the Nazis administration. The gathering co created six hostile
to Nazi Third Reich political resistance flyers. Calling themselves the White Rose, they trained
Germans to inactively oppose the Nazis. They had been frightened by the conduct of the Germans
on the Eastern Front where they had seen a gathering of exposed Jews being shot in a pit.In the

was found in the ownership of Hans Scholl at the season of his capture by the Gestapo, who

Christoph Probst was a part. Hans Scholl was an individual from the Hitler Youth until 1936 and
Sophie was an individual from the Bund Deutscher Mädel. The thoughts of d.j.1.11 had solid
impact on Hans Scholl and his siblings and sisters. d.j.1.11 was an adolescent gathering of the

Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons
Thus, Joe says to Chris that it is impossible to drive out from Kate s mind the notion that Larry is
still alive.
In the play, we find only one son Chris appearing physically, whereas Larry is merely referred to
because he is already dead by the time the play opens.
He says to Chris that he has done everything for Chris.
In fact, Joe Keller is mistakenly over concerned with his personal responsibility or his
responsibility towards his society or country as whole.
In All My Sons the character of Joe Keller has been presented by Miller with social and
psychological concerns.
Joe Keller s thinking was the outcome of social mischief.
He says to his son Chris, that he is sixty one years old and it is not sure when would he get another
chance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joe is the head of the Keller family, and the welfare of his family is his sole concern.
Another larger issue treated in All My Sons is related to the consideration of the relative
importance of personal responsibility and social responsibility.
An individual may be responsible to himself and his family; but he should also feel responsible
towards the society.
In owning the responsibility towards his family or his sons, which impels him to earn money by
dishonest means, Joe Keller seems to disown his social responsibility.
When Joe talks about his business and tells Chris that he committed the dishonest deed for him,
Chris retorts to him : The protagonist in this play is a manufacture or industrialist by the name of
Joe Keller.
Joe Keller belongs to the affluent class of society; and therefore he differs from the ordinary kind of
human beings who constitute the majority in every country.
As for outer conflict, we have a confrontation between Chris and his father over Chris s desire to
marry Annie who was engaged to marry Chris s brother,

The Rise Of Awareness Of Police Brutality Towards Black Males
Although written in the late 1980s with the rise of awareness of police brutality towards black
males in America, it is clearly evident that black people are treated differently especially in
terms of racial profiling. According to analysis by New York Civil Liberties Union, in 2013
83% of the people stopped in New York for a frisk and search were black or Hispanic with only
12% being white and of all the people stopped 81% were completely innocent. Racial profiling
causing an uneasiness to those who are victims of it, for Brent Staples it resulted in him
changing his behaviour to suit those around him. Selectively picking his attire, the time he
walked and places he walked at the specific times. Even steely New Yorkers hunching toward
nighttime destinations seem to relax, and occasionally they even join in the tune. Virtually
everybody seems to sense that a mugger wouldn t be warbling bright, sunny selections from
Vivaldi s Four Seasons. The writer, Brent Staples, would have to whistle to reassure others of
their safety and comfort just because he was a minority, the worst was assumed of him from first
impressions. In Brent s situation the uneasiness from racial profiling lead to him altering his
lifestyle and this is a reality for many young people of colour who have to selectively choose
what they wear as to not appear thuggish while they walk the streets. Racial profiling causes
individuals from minorities to change aspects of their life and can also lead to a

Time Management Within The Military
Time management plays a vital role in each and every unit with the United States Army and it
affects how quickly they can respond to problems when they arise. Time management
encompasses just about everything in the Army. From Senior Non Commissioned Officers
(SNCO) making sure their soldiers are in the right place at the right time by tracking all their
soldiers appointments and duties or the squad leaders and other Non Commissioned Officers
making sure that maintenance is being completed on time so the aircraft are ready to fly, and
making sure that soldiers are ready for their flights for the day all the way down to the lower
enlisted soldier making sure he or she is on time and ready to complete their day. These are the just
a few of the things that time managementencompasses within the military. So what is time
management? Time management is a skill that needs to learned or if need be taught to every
soldier within the ranks. Imagine a unit that has no time management skills. Soldiers are late for
flights, they miss appointments and in turn receive article fifteens, Senior Non Commissioned
Officers are being scolded by their First Sergeants for not being able to properly track their
soldiers which in turn falls downhill to the squad leaders. Maintenance isn t completed and a
majority of the fleet is down leaving only a few aircraft in an airworthy status, as the operational
readiness level continues to drop, soldiers fail to complete training requirements and are

The Affirmative Action Movement
Affirmative action is necessary to give women and minorities a level playing field.
The affirmative action movement began in 1960 with the intention of promoting opportunities for
minority groups. How is that in the year 2015 we are still having discussions about women and
minorities being discriminated against? While the movement of the 1960 s has brought attention to
discrepancy against groups, which has paved the platform for reform and opportunity, there is a
break down in the movement if 55 years later there is still discrepancy thereby suggesting a resign
of the efforts of the movement may be needed. Do I agree with affirmative action? I am a female. I

Change And Rebirth In Scandinavian Literature
In Scandinavian literature, writers use journeys as symbols of change and rebirth. Through the
journeys, the characters discover the unknown aspects of their lives, recognize their worlds for
what they are, and choose the future they want to pursue. Some characters make sacrifice on
their journeys in order to experience the unseen beauty and to seek spiritual contentment. The
little mermaid in Hans Christian Andersen s story voluntarily sacrificed her fishtail and tongue
for a wisp of love from the prince after her first trip to the world above. Abbot Hans in The
Legend of the Christmas Roses risked his life on the trip to see the Lord s garden at Christmas
Eve. The main characters in The Ugly Duckling and The Red Shoes were driven to... Show more

Facing the dangerous route to the sea witch s residence, her heart was beating with fear, she
almost turned back. But by reminding herself of her goals, her courage returned. (68) She was
not the helpless, vulnerable, little princess in her father s palace, rather, she turned into a strong
minded woman who bravely sought for the truth about her nature and who willingly endured
unimaginable pain for love. The sea witch warned her about the terrible consequences of her
decision: every time your foot touches the ground it will feel as though you were walking on
knives so sharp that your blood must flow. (68) And more severely, if she failed to marry the
prince, the first morning after he has married another, your heart will break and you will become
foam on the ocean. (69) Even though her voice trembled and her face turned white as a corpse,
she answered, I still want to try. (69) However, the little mermaid s painful efforts did not come
out as she expected. The prince treated her as his lovely pet and she, who sacrificed her voice for
legs, could not reveal the truth that she was the girl who saved him. Yet the little mermaid held on
to her beliefs, I will take care of him, love him, and devote my life to him. (72) And so she did. As
the prince fell in love with the neighboring princess, it seems that the little mermaid s journey was
going to come to a dreadful end. At the most frustrating moment, on the edge of death, she danced
for the prince to please him and refused to kill him for her own life. Her devotion and selflessness
shows her transformation from a sentimental, imaginative, and impulsive mermaid girl to a rational,
faithful, and mature human. In the end, Andersen indicated her transformation by granting her a
chance to obtain the immortal soul, a soul that only human could have. At the end, the little
mermaid kissed the bride s forehead and smiled at the

  • 2. Speed-Starting Tray or Pot-Compost Seed starting tray or pot Compost Introduction Irisses work well in beds, borders and foundation plantings. Comstock/Stockbyte/Getty Images With its six petaled flowers that range in color from yellow, white and pink to blue, red and purple, iris (Iris spp.) can be an attractive addition in the garden. Iris consists of more than 200 species, many of which are hardy to U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zone 3. Siberian iris (Iris sibirica) and crested iris (Iris cristata), for instance, can thrive in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 through 9. (See References 1) Although commonly grown true to type by division, irises can also grow from seed, although they don t grow true to the parent plant. (See References 2) Step 1 Harvest the seedpods from an iris plant after it s done blooming in the fall. If pollinated, find the pods on the plant below faded flowers. Remove them from the plant when they are partially green and start to split open. Shell the pods to reveal about 60 seeds per pod. (See References 3) Step 2 Fill a small bowl with enough water to submerse the seeds. Place the seeds in the bowl and allow them to soak. Every day, drain the liquid, pouring it in a strainer so you catch the seeds. Refill the bowl with fresh water and place the seeds back in it. Do this for up to two weeks to eliminate the germination inhibiting properties of the seeds. (See References 4) Step 3 Mix 1 part bleach with 10 parts water in a bowl. Soak the seeds in this bleach solution ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. What Is The Mood Of Poe s The Raven Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer and poet who wrote literary works during the early 1800 s. He lived a troubled life and suffered through the deaths of many of those he loved, such as his wife and mother; this pain and emotion was often portrayed in Poe s writing. In one of his most famous poems, The Raven , Poe writes, from the perspective of a man, about his encounters with a talking bird and the discussion he has about the whereabouts of his lost love. In this poem, Poe uses different literary devices to emphasize the desperation that the narrator feels. These advanced writing techniques portray a deeper meaning into the story and lead the reader to interpret a specific mood. One way that Poe expresses the urgency of the this character is by using internal rhyme. By rhyming two words within a line it further accents them and emphasizes their meaning. Specifically, he uses this rhyme to develop mood and how it changes throughout the story. When the narrator says Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, in the first stanza, the words dreary and weary rhyme. This rhyme draws... Later in the poem, Poe repeats phrases in order to highlight the narrator s desperate need to have more information about his lost love, Lenore. Anthropology Personal Narrative It all began on July 5, 2015, when my family and I traveled back from Fort Davis, Texas, to our home in Gardendale, Texas, after visiting our family for a Fourth of July celebration. As we entered into Odessa, we noticed vehicles stranded on the interstate that impeded our progress. Irritably, we were forced to stop in the middle of the road. Instantly, the music paused. In frustration, I started switching the stations; nevertheless, all remained silent. After several minutes of scanning dead air, finally the radio connected to the station, 93.3 FM. • 15. The Cedar Fire Abigail Beinke 2/20/16 Research Paper It was on October 21, 2003 at 5:37 pm that the nightmare started. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire , spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003. It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm. But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. • 17. Dental Ethical Issues In a lot of ways, ethics can be very opinionated. Sure, there are guidelines such as code of conduct, but, just like things such as religion, it can be based all in how you interpret it and how you apply it. Unfortunately, many bad things are done for the greater good. As dentistry is gearing more towards aesthetics, ethical issues have been becoming more on the raise than ever before. Some ethical issues of concern in the dental chair would be things like patient autonomy or over diagnosis/treatment. Now a days, more and more people have sought after that perfect hollywood smile. With this becoming in higher demand, restorations, such as veneers or crowns, are being used to cover up defects in the teeth rather than as a treatment to restore... I have only mentioned a couple issues here, but there are issues involving overtreatment for the gain of more money, under treatment, violations to patient autonomy and violations to patient confidentiality. As a rising senior in the dental hygiene program, I am faced with ethical issues probably every day. We sometimes have patients come in who need treatment that is way past our scope of practice. What do we do? We do what we can for them, that is within our scope of practice, and refer them out. However, I ve heard plenty of stories from our instructors dealing with dentists who will perform oral surgery and even orthodontics when they are not specialized in it. Is it legal? Actually, yes it is. All dentists are provided with training in these areas while in school. The real question is: is it ethical? Personally I would say no, because these dentists are not on the profession skill level of a dentist who has specialized in that area. But, this does happen very often. I ve had time studying some case studies in order to figure out what my ethical beliefs are in order to better place myself when I graduate. Thanks to the American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA), we are provided with Principles of Ethics as well to help us navigate through some of the ethical issues that might sit in our chair that day. • 18. William Paley s Views Of The Evidence Of Christianity William Paley I.Abstract: Born in Peterborough, England in July 1743, William Paley was a natural philosopher and wrote many books on Christianity. Before working his way through the ranks of the Anglican Church, Paley graduated first of his class from Christ s College in Cambridge in 1763, became a deacon in 1765, and was appointed assistant curate by a tutor of the college in 1766. He opposed slavery, advocated for prison reform, and was a utilitarian. He believed that humans act morally to increase their overall level of happiness. Paley had eight children with his wife, Jane Hewitt married in 1776. • 19. Archetype InThe LambBy William Blake Blakes Archetypes William Blake is one of the most famous poets in the Romantics period. A unique thing about Blake is his ability to not only write poems but to be able to combine that with his artistic ability. Every poem that Blake writes is not printed, but is handwritten with a piece of his artwork. Blake is also very well known for his two opposite Archetypes. An Archetype is when something symbolizes something else. In addition to the symbols an archetype can also have background or a story behind it. William Blakewrote four poems, The Lamb, The Chimney Sweeper, The Tyger, and Infant Sorrow where in each of these we can infer that about the two archetypes, songs of innocence and songs of experience. The Lamb by William Blake belongs in the song innocence category. When a person thinks of a lamb they think of a sweet animal who could do no harm, and this is exactly what songs of innocence means. In some ways the lamb is pure and childish. Lambs do not have anger and do not really care how things workout. In the poem, The Lamb by William Blake he explains, Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest clothing wooly delight (lines 5 6). Blake recognizes all the good qualities that lamb s posses and is very positive about the lamb although it may not be the smartest animal. In God s eye his son is lamb. To continue with the Archetype of innocence, The Chimney Sweeper is another example of a symbol. Innocence means not having experience, helplessness, and without evil. In the poem, The Chimney Sweeper Blake shows this character trait. Throughout this poem Blake tells the story of a young orphan boy whose mother died when he was very small and his father sold him to an orphanage. These events led to a very dangerous and traumatizing childhood. When a child lives in an orphanage they are used a laborer. A chimney sweeper would climb up into wealthier people s chimneys and clean them. In the story, The Chimney Sweeper, William Blake explains, Could scarcely cry weep weep weep weep. So your chimneys I sweep in soot I sleep (lines 3 4). This is a very powerful line in how the child could never wash their body. He never knew in his entire life what it was like to have a clean body, loving parents, or an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. First Thanksgiving Essay It is undoubted that holidays history is the point of entry to any living cultures. In specific, the United States national holiday in November Thanksgiving reflects the country s culture of consumerism. The first documented Thanksgiving meal in America was between the Spanish settlers, and the Timucua tribe in La Florida in 1565 (Franklin 19). Interestingly, the main courses were salt pork and garbanzo beans offered by the Spanish and alligator meat offered by the Native Americans (Franklin 19). Nonetheless, most Americans associate the first Thanksgivingwith the moment when the Pilgrims shared a three day feast with the Wampanoag in 1621 (McCabe 52). There is a possibility that the Pilgrims utilized home grown herbs and precious imported spices to season their foods (P. Baker and J. Baker 56). Nevertheless, they were more likely to boil the meats, since roasting was very laborious in the old days (P. Baker and J. Baker 56). In what ways is this represented in your prescribed text and ORT? PHOEBE ATKINSON A person s basic human need to belong to people, places and circumstances can fuel many of their actions throughout their life. For some people a sense of belonging can be difficult to obtain. The struggle to belong is represented in many ways in the 1998 memoir, Romulus, My Father by Raimond Gaita. Through Gaita s employment of various writing techniques and his recollection of past events and adversities, the reader becomes aware of the many struggles of the characters, particularly to belong to the Australian culture and landscape. In the 2001 short story Mate , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The imagery formed by group of men glaring at Will from inside the car, further alienates him as he truly appears an outsider . This is similar to how Romulus lack of understanding of the Australian landscape continuously reinforces him as a foreigner, exposes him to ridicule and prevents him from belonging in society, such as when Romulus caused a fire that burnt 20 hectares of his neighbors property. The use of an intertextual reference to Dorothea Mackellar s poem My Country shows how even though Will thought he had sufficient knowledge of, and belonging to Australian society, his lack of first hand experience and true understanding of real country life disables him from belonging to Boolowa and its people. Even Will s attempts to fit in by buying the Akubra and the elastic sided boots were futile because his city bugger aura was obvious to the country folk . Differences in a person s social context and hobbies can sometimes create barriers to belong to a community. In Romulus, My Father a comparison is drawn between Raimond and typical Australian farm boys, I had virtually no interest in farm life... (p.60) and ...I was the only boy in the area who did not kill rabbits... These comparisons alienated Raimond and perhaps disabled him from creating strong friendships with the farm boys because of a lack of common interests. Later in the story Raimond recognised ... Although most of the subjects of her study were Californian middle class European Americans, thus not offering much diversity in her study, the results were very persuasive and interesting. There are implications depending on the type of parenting style that was used on the child. If a child grew up with authoritarian parents for example would grow up to be well behaved, obedient but unhappy, likely depressed, and would also likely leave home before the age of 20. Children that grow up with permissive parents would grow up to be dependent on parents living at home into adulthood, would lack emotional control, self control and would be unhappy as adults. Finally the child that grows up with authoritative parents, it seems would grow up to be the best adjusted out of the three styles. A child with authoritative parents would be well adjusted, happy, generous, and successful. They are also well regarded by others especially in western individualistic societies. Now the text does warn that the parenting style which ends up working the best for each child should be dependent on various factors such as the child s temperament, these are after all generalizations. The Responsibility Of Dorm Directors One of the number one priorities here at the college is to ensure that we are providing our students with a safe and secure environment that is conducive for learning. At an institution that provides Residence Halls for students, it is important to remember that the safety measures extended to those residence halls also. According to Sokolow (2004), there are three questions that a riskmanager has to address when assessing risks, can the risk can be avoided, can the risk be transferred, or if the risk can be accepted (p. 90). The purpose of this audit is to identify the policies and practices that are in place that could potentially be a legal liability for the institution. In order to conduct this risk assessment, we will utilize the three category assessment: low risk bring searches, moderate risk of personal property, and high risk of mental health awareness and violence (Sokolow, 2004, p. 88) Searches Part of the responsibility of Dorm Directors is to report any illegal activity that may occur on the premises. A possible infraction may result in a dorm director or campus police performing a search of the room. There have been numerous complaints from students that there have been illegal searchers of their rooms. In some of these instances, the students were not present, and those who were present stated that they did not grant permission for officers to search. The issue with this is that in order for searches to occur, we have to ensure that they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Love and Lust in Play By Play, Sex without Love, and Junior Year Abroad Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love to occur a relationship has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the beginning of a relationship. After a while, these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, one might see the work as condemning people who have sex without being in love; but after further review, one can see how Olds really portrays these people. She describes them as being ...Beautiful as dancers,/ gliding over each other like ice skaters (Olds 838); also they are considered very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The characters in the poem are depicted as athletes, agile and ready to compete, much like how the narrator, who talks so highly of them, wants to be. However, once again, only the emotion of lust is present in this piece, and there is no confusion between love and lust. So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem Junior Year Abroad, the lead character reveals lust for a man in her homeland, an emotion that quickly fades away after meeting someone during her stay in Paris. The poem begins with an introduction to her situation and reveals that he will come to Paris at Christmas to be with her. The shelf life of my promise expired (Rebecca 839), is how she refers to her lover s upcoming visit, explaining how quickly her lust for him has gone away. • 37. Plea Bargaining In Criminal Justice I did not watch the film, Criminal Justice: Nothing Cuts Deeper, but I thought you both brought up interesting points about plea bargaining in your analyses. I did not realize that plea bargains were as common as they are until Crystal pointed out that in 1989, less than 2% took their cases to trial. That is a shockingly low number! Abraham also pointed out that this means that defendants are waiving important rights, protected by the Fifth and Sixth Amendments: the right to a jurytrial, the right against self incrimination, and the right to confront hostile witnesses. As far as I understand, the foundations of the American criminal justice process are built around these essential rights! In reality, very few people have faith in and are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So the trial is meant to achieve either determining guilt and issuing appropriate punishment for the crime and to prevent innocent people from being punished for a crime that they did not commit. Stephanos Bibas, a professor of Law and Criminology argues that everyone trusted that trials remained as safety valves whenever guilt was in real doubt. The vast majority of defendants are factually and legally guilty, but surely, we assumed, those who are innocent would persist to vindicate their names at trial. Unfortunately, because of pressures by the prosecution and fears of long, harsh sentences, poorly informed, poorly educated, and poorly represented defendants are far from the fully informed, rational actors. (Bibas, 2016). This means that some innocent people are taking a plea bargain for fear of greater punishment, even if they did not actually commit the crime. They have so little faith in the process of a trial working correctly that they feel it better to agree to a lesser punishment despite their innocence. Whether their lack of faith in the trial process is warranted or not, this signifies that there is something fundamentally wrong with the criminal justice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Plate Tectonics Research Paper Have you ever wondered why our continents are in the positions that they are in today? Plate Tectonics can be used to explain the movement of the plates and the landforms they make. These landforms include mountains, volcanoes, rift valleys, and much more that are made by convergent and divergent boundaries. The plates are moved by the convection currents below the surface which is caused by a heat source, the mantle. Another landform that is made is a mid ocean ridge, at which sea floor spreading is taken place, and allows magma to rise and harden on the ocean floor. Two different types of landforms that form at convergent boundaries are mountains and volcanoes. Mountains, such as Mount Everest and K2, are formed when two continental plates collide, which causes the landforms to rise. Volcanoes, such as Mount Saint Helens and Mount Fuji, forms when the more dense oceanic plate subducts under the less dense continental plate and is driven down into the hot asthenosphere. Subducted plate melts due to extreme heat and friction. Melted plate rises up through the crust, where it reaches the surface and cools. Those weak spots allow the magma to come out, forming into lava. There are also volcanic island arcs, which form when two oceanic plates collide, and continental volcanic arcs, which forms when an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 39. Defense, Necessity Defense And Affirmative Defense According to the United States constitution every American Citizen is entitled to a trial and an attorney. With the right to a trial and an attorney those accused also have a right to bring up a defense in justifying or excusing their actions. In this essay I will be looking at defenses such as self defense, necessity defense and affirmative defense. This essay will serve as a guide to what these defenses really mean and when it is acceptable to use them. A defense is when a defendant and his or her attorney provide evidence on why they should not be held accountable for the crime they have ben accused. The purpose of a defense is so a person won t be held responsible for the crimes they have committed. There are two kinds of defenses a factual defense and a legal defense. A factual defense is when a defended simply states that they didn t commit the crime, such as providing an alibi. Where as a legal defense a defendant may have committed the crime but should face no legal liability. There are two kinds of legal defense justifications and excuses. An Affirmative defense is when a defendant provides evidence, which can influence the legal responsibility the defendant will be held responsible for, even if the defendant committed the crime in question. An affirmative defense may completely exonerate a defendant but it may also just lower the charges brought against the defended. For example a person who is charged with first degree murder can be found not guilty using ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rise Of Awareness Of Police Brutality Towards Black Males Although written in the late 1980s with the rise of awareness of police brutality towards black males in America, it is clearly evident that black people are treated differently especially in terms of racial profiling. Selectively picking his attire, the time he walked and places he walked at the specific times. Even steely New Yorkers hunching toward nighttime destinations seem to relax, and occasionally they even join in the tune. The writer, Brent Staples, would have to whistle to reassure others of their safety and comfort just because he was a minority, the worst was assumed of him from first impressions. In Brent s situation the uneasiness from racial profiling lead to him altering his lifestyle and this is a reality for many young people of colour who have to selectively choose what they wear as to not appear thuggish while they walk the streets. Through the journeys, the characters discover the unknown aspects of their lives, recognize their worlds for what they are, and choose the future they want to pursue. The sea witch warned her about the terrible consequences of her decision: every time your foot touches the ground it will feel as though you were walking on knives so sharp that your blood must flow. (68) And more severely, if she failed to marry the prince, the first morning after he has married another, your heart will break and you will become foam on the ocean. (69) Even though her voice trembled and her face turned white as a corpse, she answered, I still want to try. (69) However, the little mermaid s painful efforts did not come out as she expected. The prince treated her as his lovely pet and she, who sacrificed her voice for legs, could not reveal the truth that she was the girl who saved him. Yet the little mermaid held on to her beliefs, I will take care of him, love him, and devote my life to him. (72) And so she did. As the prince fell in love with the neighboring princess, it seems that the little mermaid s journey was going to come to a dreadful end. At the most frustrating moment, on the edge of death, she danced for the prince to please him and refused to kill him for her own life.
