Tennis Ball Test Lab Report
Tennis Ball Test
SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT
29 Jan 15
By
Jimmetrius Winters
REVIEW OF LITERATURE:
For this experiment we researched the dimension of the tennis ball and basketball. The dimension of
the tennis ball is 2.700 inches. The dimension of the basketball is 29.5 inches.
A reason that a tennis ball is explained best by Tara Thackery. The motion of energy defines kinetic
energy. According to Exploratorium, when you throw a tennis ball and it lands on the floor, it gains
kinetic energy. The molecules in the tennis ball begin to stretch apart. Then, they squeeze back
together. As this process occurs, the ball gains more energy and is able to bounce off the ground.
A reason that basketball bounces is best explained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We think that the height will change because the type of ground used could modify the outcome of the
experiment. To measure the bounce of the ball we used a three feet measuring stick. The results will
be measured in inches.
CONSTANTS:
The constants in this experiment is the type of ball being used in each experiment. Also the time of
day in this experiment was a constant.
CONTROL:
The control group in this experiment is the different heights cause by the balls in the different
environment.

PROCEDURE STEPS:
1. Stand measuring stick up straight 2. Drop ball from three from the air 3. Locate maximum height in
which the ball bounced 4. Record data

Between John F Kennedy And Martin Luther King Jr
The Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal yet many African
Americans were denied equal liberty because of the color of their skin. Due to this unfit justice a small
group of gallant men began a long struggle to reshape a nation based on their view of equality. Among
these men, two stood out the most; John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Both were known to
many as inspirational and significant leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, whom invested their
power and belief towards equality. Three key events that led to the enactment of the Civils Right Act
of 1964 include John F. Kennedy s 1963 Civil Rights speech, Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream
speech, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lastly, these events ended public segregation and
led to employment equality for all regardless of their skin color. There was a point in time when
African Americans were beaten, harassed, and treated unfairly due to their skin color. Martin Luther
King, Jr. helped people realize the power of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his speech he depicts how he views the world in the near future stating I have a dream that my four
little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but
by the content of their character. And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring, when we
let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to
speed up that day when all of God s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles,
Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
Free at last!... The end of his speech signifies the future he envisioned for everyone. His speech was a
keen and passionate address, forged out of the essence of

The Monster Figurative Language
The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I
have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry
at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the
point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring.
By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh
wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals
that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he
loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I
examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly
made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to
his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also
noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For
wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song.
Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are
only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined
the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line
leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that
there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no

The Us Strategy For Winning The Global War On Terrorism
In light of this, it should be mentioned that the US strategy for winning the Global War on Terrorism is
predicated on creating an international environment inhospitable to terrorists and all those who
support them (Fogarty 2001). Meaning, that the fight against terrorism heavily relies on international
cooperation. In order to achieve such a feat, nevertheless, America must be amiable by fellow
governments and their citizens. Unfortunately, the reports and findings on GTMO makes it
increasingly difficult for the American administration to do so, for the inhumane treatment makes
citizens of other countries upset. Quoting General Colin Powell, people from other nation states are
beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism (Duberstein as cited in Washington
Monthly 2008). This proves to be an immense hindrance to the war, as America cannot hope to face
all of the world s terrorists alone. To put this in perspective, one can take a look at the situation with
Turkey and Russia. Earlier this year, a Russian jet was shot down by Turkey, having flown into the
latter s airspace without permission (BBC 2015). Granted, there lies in factors such as the decades
long animosity between the two countries. Albeit, who s to say that America s relations with countries
will never reach such lows? Rather, previous Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel says that one of the
greatest long term dangers America faces is that we are now mistrusted by many nations, even our

Positive Aspects Of Love
Through several types of research and experiments, Barbara Fredrickson concluded that love is a vital
nutrient in the human body. She claims that love is the body s supreme emotion , however, negative
emotion is just as important. The essay focused primarily on the positive aspects of interaction and
barely touches upon the negative. Fredrickson makes it seem as though love is the only emotion the
human body needs in order to survive, but that is false. Human social interaction is all composed of
psychology and biology. Every human is different, and not all expect to receive positive resonance
when speaking to another. In actuality, negative emotions are necessary for one to develop and fully
understand the positive... being happy all the time is absurd
Fredrickson claims that positivity resonance is beneficial to the human body. Despite this, there are
several negative social interactions that occur everyday. She seems to be suggesting that people should
only be positive. Though many people try desperately to attain a lifetime of happiness and positivity,
they cannot. Humans have several different emotions, and no one can be positive all the time. When
an infant and parent do click, their coordinated motions and emotions show lots of mutual positive
engagement... They connect over mutual distress or indifference, rather than over mutual affection
(Fredrickson 116 117). During this experiment, it is proved that children and parents connect over how
they engage with one

Banks are not the only financial intermediary from which corporations can obtain financing. What are
the other intermediaries? How much financing do they supply, relative to banks, in the United
Kingdom, Germany, and Japan? The other financial intermediaries include insurance companies,
mutual funds and pension funds. In Japan, banks provide more financing than other financial
intermediaries do. In the U.K., other financial intermediaries provide substantially more financing. In
the U.S., banks are less important sources of financing compared to financial intermediaries. While in
Europe, financing provided by banks and financing provided by other financial intermediaries are
approximately equal. 3. Why is transparency important in a market based financial system? Why is it
less important in a bank based system? Transparency is essential in a market based system, but is not
necessarily a requirement for a bank based system. In a bank based system, banks have long standing
working relationships with the companies seeking financing, and banks have on going access to
information about the firm. In a market based system, creditors and equity holders require that
financial information about companies seeking financing be available, sufficiently detailed and
accurate if they are to participate in the market. This information, including audited financial
statements, allows participants in the market to make

Poverty In Native American Reservation
Not until now did I realized that Native American Reservations have been suffering the side effects of
poverty and unemployment. It is impossible to describe the many factors that have contributed to the
challenges that American Indians face today, but many of the statistics and fact show how life is for
many in reservations. The poverty in Native American Reservation can be described in no other form
than third world. It is common to find people living under horrible living conditions and many
vagabonds. Tribes have reported as high as 85% of Native Americans in reservations are unemployed.

As in these past decades many of the young Indigenous people in reservations are not able to fulfill
their dream to become someone in life due to poverty. High school graduation rates are also among
the lowest of any population. In the states with the most American Indians, less than 50% of Native
students graduate, on average (). There is a tremendous effect of poverty that takes a toll on young
Native Americans dreams and future in reservations. Roughly 51 percent of Native American students
in the class of 2010 earned a high school diploma. That s down from 58 percent in 2008, when
graduation rates for the group reached its peak (). Education for most remains a yet to be fulfilled
promise for moving families out of profound poverty. Outrunning the odds for young Native
Americans living on and off the reservation is quite challenging. Poverty has become one of the
principal problems that has challenged future generations to better their future and families. This may

The Destructors Analysis
Stephen Alexander Smith
Miss Shackel
AP English Literature
13 September 2017
A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society. Graham
Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England
is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the
time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for
someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the
social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower
classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common
Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled
down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene
uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display
how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the
materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader
learns that the gang does not refer to Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards
referred to (Greene 116). The members of the Wormsley Common Gang understand that Trevor is the
name given to

Man s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl Essay
Life was consumed by constant orders, labor, malnutrition, disease, and murder in the concentration
camps. Yet somehow the human psyche in many individuals was able to endure throughout these
imprisonments. Men and women were almost completely dehumanized during this genocide, but their
psyche survived it. People had to find little things to keep themselves content and to nurture their
psyche. Humor was another of the soul s weapons in the fight for self preservation (63). Humor allows
a person to escape a situation and rise above it, even if only for a short time. Humor can never be

The last of the human freedoms to choose one s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose

The Benefits Of Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing has grown tremendously in recent years because of its convenience, flexibility,
mobility, and availability. It enables users to access resources online throughout the internet from
anywhere at any time. Data and applications are available to end users no matter where they are in the
world, dispersed groups of people can now meet virtually and share information in real time, and the
reduction of servers and software costs can significantly reduce without impacting the capabilities of a
company s IT infrastructure. However, despite the many benefits of cloud computing, there is one
major drawback of all these advantages that cloud computing offers, and that is security. Due to the
high demands on large scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many things can affect the reliability of the cloud such as failed servers and an overload of data. This
report will focus on the privacy and reliability related issues concerning cloud computing security, and
how these risks can be approached. II. Technical Summary The report that I selected focused on the
development of cloud computing in security issues related with the privacy and reliability, the key
factors of affecting the security risks, and also the suggestions and recommendations for these risks.
The expectations for reliability of the cloud continues to grow as more and more applications are
developed based on cloud service. To meet those expectations, cloud service providers need to
understand the challenges and find ways to increase the reliability of cloud services, and also ways to
avoid the risks. Some of the risks that affect the reliability of the cloud is co residency and multi
tenancy, downtime, and latency challenges. Co residency is when multiple services are held in a
server. This makes it difficult to predict the performance of an application. Reliability can be affected
by other services that are busy. Multi tenancy is when multiple independent instances of an application
can be consolidated on a single virtualized platform. The instances can then be available
simultaneously to various groups of users. Multi tenancy has the same cost benefits and challenges as

HAITI : A GOVERNMENT OF THIEVES PRESIDENT WANTS POLICE BRASS FIRED!
Haitian President Jovenel Moise, a political novice sought to sag 14 high officials of the Haitian
Police Department. This news comes on the hill of an attack on the President s motorcade in the north
side of Haiti a few days ago where the people threw rocks at the president s motorcade a la Maduro.

Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of the Police was

Plessy V. Ferguson Case Analysis
Before the Union victory in 1865, Congress assembled for the challenges the United States would face
at the war s end, particularly the integration of four million emancipated African Americans into the
country. The Congressional Reconstruction period generated the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth
amendments into the United States Constitution. These amendments extended legal and civil
protections to former slaves. These three amendments were foundation of the civil rights movement;
because it gave new constitutional protections to African Americans, though the struggle to fully
achieve equality would continue into the future, it led the civil rights movement on to the right path.
The Thirteenth amendment¹ was formed in 1865, it stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary goals of the movement were to end segregation across America, desegregate schools and
other public facilities, reverse to notion separate but equal , and achieve overall equality. Shortly after
the Fourteenth amendment was passed, America erupted with opinions due to the Plessy v. Ferguson
decision. Plessy v. Ferguson was a U.S. Supreme Court case that supported the right for states to pass
laws allowing racial segregation in public and private institutions such as schools, public
transportation, restrooms, etc. The Plessy v. Ferguson case was important in the course of United
States history, because its outcome upheld the belief that racial segregation was legal under the
separate but equal doctrine. The Court held segregation as legal under the Fourteenth Amendment,
Equal Protection Clause. The clause explained that no state shall... deny to any person within its
jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. (Equal Protection Clause 1868) The decision validated
the action of segregation and the proliferation of the Jim Crow laws. This was a major part of what the
Civil Rights movement of the 1950 s 60 s hoped to terminate. Ultimately, Plessy v. Ferguson, (1896)
was rescinded by Brown v. Board of Education, 347 US 483

The Cause And Causes Of The Second World War
In 1939, the Second World War began as Germany attacked Poland. Britain and France declared war
on Germany in response to Germany s invasion of Poland. The Second World War was composed of
two main powers. One was the Axis Powers which included Germany, Italy, and Japan. The other was
the Allied Powers which included Britain, France, the United States, the Soviet Union and etc.
Germany s attack on Soviet Union and Japan s invasion of Pearl Harbor escalated the war and the war
became more intensified on a world scale. Because of the Second World War, a lot of countries and
people were sacrificed. In addition, all the things concerning politics, economy, society, culture , etc
changed due to this war. Historians always argue about historical events, especially argue about the
cause and effect. In the case of the Second World War, most of the historians blame for the war on

Good Night And Goodluck Analysis
Good Night. And, Good Luck by George Clooney and Grant Heslov follows CBS reporter Edward R.
Murrow and his producer Fred Friendly who resolve to take a stand against Senator Joseph McCarthy.
There was an air of fear and paranoia in the United States, in the 1950 s, because of Communism.
Those fears were manipulated by McCarthy, who wanted to gain more power by calling out people
who he claimed to have communist ties. His only piece of evidence involved a sealed envelope that no
one could see the contents of. Murrow and his reporting team decide to do a piece on those
exploitations. The first piece they do is on an air force officer who was fired because his father was

Greek Characters In The Odyssey
Greek epic poetry carries in its writings a feeling relatable to people today. By throwing the reader
into an intense situation, using god like characters and characteristics, and vividly describing these
character traits, The Iliad and The Odyssey composed by a famous poet, Homer, remains relevant
today. These distinct characteristics common to epics of its time allows us to feel the struggle realized
by the Trojan s during the war. Three popular Greek mythological characters are Poseidon, Hecate,

Muslims have been labeled with various stereotypes. It is under the assumption that Muslim women
are oppressed, Muslims have a low tolerance of other beliefs, or a Jihadist automatically assumed to

The Moral And Ethical Ethics Of Tyco
Introduction
This paper is about the lack of moral and ethical leadership of Tyco International s former highest paid
chief executive officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski (Kaplan, 2009). Tyco International is a business
leader in Global Fire Safety and Security Solutions. Tyco s United States headquarters are in
Princeton, New Jersey and the Corporate Headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. According to
Kaplan (2009), over a decade, Dennis Kozlowski was a charismatic and ambitious CEO who had
earned the nickname Deal a Day Dennis because of his notorious business decisions including
aggressive and speedy acquisitions. Dennis was a leader determined to make Tyco the greatest
company and succeeded well in transforming it from a $1.5 billion manufacturer into an industrial
corporation worth more than $100 billion (Kaplan, 2009).
Ethical issues
In June 2002, Kozlowski was accused by the Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau, of
evading $1 million in sales tax on the purchase of rare artwork (Timeline of the Tyco International
scandal, 2005). This investigation opened up a can of worms indicting Kozlowski along with Tyco s
former chief financial officer (CFO) Mark H. Swartz of looting millions of dollars from the company,
misconstruing financial records and doctoring business records (Brickey, 2008). In September 2002,
Kozlowski and Swartz were accused of stealing more than $170 million dollars from Tyco and
swindling $430 million in the sale of company shares.

A Soft Drink Tax According to John Stuart Mill
The Justification for a Soft Drink Tax
The Coca Cola brand has built itself into a staple of American culture. This is a terrifying thought for
public health advocates who see Coke and other soft drinks as being major culprits behind a growing
national health crisis. Empirical evidence shows that over consumption of soft drinks clearly causes
harm to the individuals who consume them, however, the waging battle over soda legislation will not
be won on the grounds of health alone. The argument that Coca Cola, Pepsi, and other soft drink firms
present is deeply rooted in American values and cannot easily be trumped. What they argue for is
freedom of choice.
In his book On Liberty, John Stuart Mill states, over himself, over his own body ... Show more content

Therefore, in order to present a stronger argument for a ban on soft drinks, advocates would do well to
prove that in drinking soda pop, individuals cause harm not only to themselves, but also to others.
To consume soft drinks to the point of excess can lead to the deterioration of an individual s health.
This may appear to be a self regarding action until one considers the cost such individuals impose on
taxpayers. Citizens whose unhealthy lifestyles regularly land them in the hospital eat up government
health care, at which point their actions cease to be self regarding and become harmful to society at
large. With this in mind, are we still to protect individuals liberty to drink soda pop?
Soft drink firms may point to Mill in arguing that the accountability for such harm lies not with soda,
but with the society that raises gluttonous individuals. If grown people are incapable of properly
taking care of themselves, society must consider that it has had absolute power over them during all
the early portion of their existence; it has had the whole period of childhood and nonage in which to
try whether it could make them capable of rational conduct in life (80). It is on this point that we must
consider the role that mass media plays in the world today. The pervasiveness of corporate advertising

The Power Of The White House Essay
Webster s Dictionary defines power as the ability to do anything; ... capacity for producing an effect;
... a wielder of authority, strong influence, or rule. In my opinion, power is the ability to produce an
effect from people, places or things. Thunderstorms are strong mixtures of air and water that can cause
a powerful effect on weather. The White House is a place that stands as a symbol of what America as a
country represents; which can produce a powerful effect, either positive or negative, upon the
emotions of those who see it. And finally, there is an organization of people within a society who
wield their impact through the decisions they make, the government, that defines the influence of the
effect of power on those to whom it governs. The concept of power has come to be associated with the
terms wealth, authority and government. Much of what is studied in the field of political science is
defined by the parameters created to express the concept power and how well it is used to distribute
wealth and authority. It is important that the ideas that symbolize the characterization of power can be
defined within a set of parameters that are readily relatable because the basis of political science is the
study of the theory and practice of politics, which can be broadly defined as the determining of the
distribution of power and resources. John Emerich Edward Dalberg, Lord Acton, is often quoted for
his famous opinion on this subject: Power tends to corrupt and

The Workplace and Title VII
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the catalyst in abolishing the separate but equal policies that had
been a mainstay in our society. Though racial discrimination was the initial focal point, its enactment
affected every race. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in housing, education,
employment, public accommodations and the receipt of federal funds based on certain discrimination
factors such as race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age or religion. Title VII is the employment

If an employee alleges discrimination in the workplace, they may file a complaint with the EEOC. As
the claims process furthers, the EEOC will move forward and file suit in federal court if reasonable
cause is shown and no conciliation is made between the employer and employee. If no reasonable
cause is shown, the EEOC will send the employee a right to sue letter. In alleging discrimination, it is
important for both parties to be aware of the theories by which a lawsuit may be brought. A

under Title VII.
Disparate treatment is considered intentional discrimination. It is treating similarly situated employees
differently because of prohibited Title VII factors . (Bennett Alexander etal pp 95) Anheuser Busch,

this case, an African American woman was subjected to disciplinary action for committing the same

Nigh on a millennium ago, I was created. I was not made a human, nor made in the manner such

Why I Want To Be A Bartender Essay
Life as a bartender, all started when I was stationed in Germany in 1997. I went to the NCO club at

Analysis Of The Poem Terrace Mcnally s The Mother,...
HIV/AIDS affects people both directly and indirectly. It is an extremely painful for the person with the
virus, and it is emotional for them and their loved ones. Many people have preconceived ideas about
what types of people get HIV/AIDS and can be stubborn and unaccepting. Terrace McNally elicits
empathy from the audience by using literary devices including; the unique characteristics of Andre s
Mother, and the balloons symbolizing Andre s soul. I am very compassionate about the topic because
my sister is HIV positive. I know that she has been through a lot, and people have treated her
differently because of it. However, she is still the same person.
Terrace McNally decided to make the character of Andre s Mother nameless. Choosing not to give her
a name leaves room for the reader to imagine why she is nameless. Giving a character a name makes
them more personable, leaving a character unnamed would usually make them less memorable. It is
difficult to remember much about a character that you can not address by name. However, in this
situation, being nameless creates a distinct and intriguing character. It forces the audience to question
why these choices were made, and this allows the audience to use their imagination and think about
what type of person Andre s Mother was. I believe that Andre s Mother s silence shows that she is not
accepting of her son and that they do not have a close and open relationship. Andre does not even tell

The Age of Enlightment
In Europe in the early 17th century, Christianity was the dominant religion. Most countries believed
that it was the only acceptable one, and that there should not be any toleration for other religions. In
many countries, the monarchs (or the other rulers) would enforce Christianity and persecute people
with other beliefs. Some of these beliefs, however, changed during the Age of Enlightenment from the
late 1600 s to the mid 1700 s. The philosophers during the Age of Enlightenment influenced peoples
way of thinking through their ideas of reason, empiricism, and the power of nature. The ideas that the
philosophers had eliminated the stranglehold that religion had on the people and the government.
Through the heavy influence of John Locke, Isaac Newton, and other philosophers, alternative
religions, mainly deism, emerged, which changed how people viewed themselves and their
relationship to government. Through their discoveries and theories, the philosophers during the Age of
Enlightenment greatly affected the way that people viewed themselves. Isaac Newton was the first of
these philosophers to alter the views of the people of the time. Newton believed that the key to
discovery was trial and error. He believed that no one should firmly believe in anything unless it was
distinctly proven. This idea is known as empiricism. Along with these views, he also believed that
there was a scientific and mathematical reason for everything on earth. Rather than God being the only

Distinguishing Features of the Major Court Systems There are two kinds of courts in the United Stated
state courts and federal courts. Each one possesses their own distinguishing features. We will look at
the key players at each level as well as jurisdictional rules, interpretation issues as well as the effect of

poor living conditions that limited their successes later in life. Although most orphaned children were
fortunate enough to be placed into sufficient living circumstances, many of them were not as
privileged. By discussing the various living conditions of orphans in nineteenth century England, one
can better understand their position in the English society and realize why their later successes were so

Unofficial fostering was also fairly common: among families of any social class, relatives might take
one or two children to raise as their own.... (106 07).
Most of these orphaned children were brought up within the family circle by grandparents, older
siblings, or aunts and uncles (Horn 63).
When orphans became members of new households they were normally accepted as just another
member of the family, that is, if the new guardians were of the same social class as the parents.
However, any inferiority in social class among the former parents of the orphan compared with his/her
new guardians often resulted in the orphan s mistreatment and neglect. This is not surprising when
considering the clear social distinction that was maintained among the different classes throughout the
nineteenth century in England.
Among children, these class distinctions were as obvious as they were among adults. There were often
negative feelings and rivalries between children of different classes. Lower class children were usually
forbidden to speak with children of higher status; however, upper class children who were seen
walking without an adult escort would often get heckled by the lower class children living on the
street. Some children resented these restrictions, although disobedience was seldom considered (Horn
25). This type of behavior greatly contributed to the

Comparing Greek And Japanese Creation Myths
A long, long time ago in the earth, what happened to the earth? How did the human being be born?
Thanks to a lot of scientists, the precise fact about the earth are beginning to be unveiled year by year.
We easily assume that it is hard to reach the scientific fact for ancient people because of behind in
technology. Instead, people in old times used to create interesting myths that have been handed down
from generation to generation. There are many myths from country to country in the world. There are
even some for individual cultures and religions. The Greek creation myth and Japanese one have a
similarity although there are differences between them.
According to the Japanese creation myth, before the earth began, the world was filled with one germ
of life. The heavier part of it sank and lighter part of it rose. Shoots sprouted from the ocean it were
transformed into a god. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first god was born from the egg, one half of the shell became the sky, named Uranus, and the
other shell became the earth, named Gaia. Uranus and Gaia gave birth to a lot of babies. While both
stories are unique, they are on the same page in the beginning; the world was dark as dark. In the
Greek creation myth, there was nothing. There were no humans, gods, sun nor moon except Nyx.
Also, on the Japanese myth, there was a darkness. All the elements were mixed together with one
germ of life. There was only one germ of life that all things were mixed together. Later, one of the
gods became the sun, another god became the moon. In the beginning of the world, there was no light

Hatchet Metaphors
Author Gary Paulsen is what one would call a poet, yet he rights novels. This is because his poetry is
hidden wonderfully in his simple, yet beautiful style of written. Hatchet being no exception. The
Hatchet has several metchet metaphors and it is just one part of the story. Though in my opinion one
of the most important, if not they most important. They Hatchet a tool for survival, it has sentimental
value, and it has this secret meaning written between the lines.
So. survival this the most basic and easy concept of the Hatchet. Brain the main character uses the
Hatchet to perform both easy and difficult tasks. When the plane first went down, he used it to get of
the crash. He use it to build a fire and cather water. Such as cutting tree to get food or building a
shelter. At one point it is even used to help him scare of a bear. Of course other factor played in these
events and tasks, but they all in one way involved the Hatchet. So, really it is they key to his survival
and in some cases even his humanity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

During the book you learn his parents are getting a divorce because his mother had an affair. The
Hatchet serving as a constant reminder at they fact they Brain had seen it with his own eyes and
neither of his parents knew. Salt is added to the wound when you find out his father doesn t know and
his mother just suddenly wanted to split. This add a lot of mental pressure on Brain and make survival

Waking Up Narrative
Waking up in the middle of nowhere in Mexico,
With nothing but my clothes I have on and my friend Luis.
We starved for over one week and a half,
Just wondering when we ll get out next meal.
remembering what happened to me before I left was a pain,
It started after my parents died from a natural cause.
My sister Rosa was put up for adoption and soon will get a new family,
But for me, I was put to work on a crop farm.
On my first day I meet Luis he was also put to work,
Everything was great having a person who can understand.
But everything wasn t perfect, and everything can t be the same,
And the man we worked for was nothing but an alcoholic who beats us. Every single time he step out
of the bar and got home,
We would take off his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So one night Luis and I decide to escape,
And we did just as we said.
We took a bag of food and water that can last us about a week,
So we ran and ran and never looked back.
After an hour of running we rested for tomorrow s journey,
It was cold and we worried about animals that would attack.
Waking up in the morning this is where we first came in, I spotted two foxes eating our food,
I tried to scare them away, but it was too late for that.
Every single piece of food we packed was nothing but crumbs and a few drops of water,
Day after day hoping to find water and food,
Just listening to our stomachs roaring for food as
Until suddenly we fell, being unable to stop thinking this will be the end.
Trying to keep our eyes open, but knowing there s nothing to live for what s the point.
I shut my eyes and took my last breath and said my last words I ll see you mom and dad
Their I shut my eyes, realizing i m going to die
SPLASH, as a bucket of water hit my face I saw a man standing over me, The man said You made it to
the other side
As thrilled as I was, I turned and saw Luis dead .
Luis looked like as If all the life was drained out of

The Failure of the Constitution to Meet the Needs of a...
The Failure of the Constitution to Meet the Needs of a Rapidly Changing Society When the
Constitution was written by the Founding Fathers back in 1787, they intentionally made it so that it
could survive over time. They made it flexable so because they envisaged that there were problems
that they could not forsee in the future, these are things such as the Depression of the late twenties and
early thirties. The Framers intended for the amendment process to be the main way of updating the
constitution and through time this has been evident. An important part of a democratic government is
the accountability of those in power, in recent times we have seen the system in America fail, in part ...

This shows that there is an essential part of the democratic process missing due to flaws in the
constitution. When the constitution was first written in 1787 there was a strong possibility of war, so
when the founding fathers drew up the constitution they added in an article which said that all people
have the right to bear arms. This article has been problematic ever since. Within the last decade there
have been many high profile shootings in schools such as Columbine, this has led to a stronger fight
against the gun laws. There are those such as the National Rifle Association who say that that right can
not be taken away from them as it is one of their constitution rights but there is a problem with that as
within the preamble there is the mention of insuring domestic tranquillity, can this be done when there
are children who can gain easy access to guns, there are also the problems with the number of deaths
due to gun crimes, the right to life is also mentioned in the constitution. The flexibility of the
constitution is crucial to its longevity as if it was too rigid it would not have lasted, there may be the
problem though that it is too flexible. Over the years there hav been many changes in the federal
system, most notably the introduction of Roosevelts New Deal which saw the power shift more
towards the central government, then there was

Natural Selection Hypothesis
The effects of natural selection on the process of evolution in beans (Phaseolus).
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the process of natural selection through a simulation
involving competition of various preys and predators. In order to simulate natural selection,
experimenters became predators and acted as a species of fork, spoon, knife, or fingers. Beans of four
different phenotypes (white, green, black, and red) represented the prey. The predators hunted prey for
30 seconds three times symbolizing three generations. The prey and predator survivors were doubled
each generation to simulate reproduction. This experiment was done in an asphalt and sand
environment. All data was recorded. The black bean was also the ... Show more content on

For generation one, the spoon, fork, and fingers species started with three predators while the knife
species started with four. The number of predator survivors was one for spoon, zero for fork and knife,
and three for fingers. The second generation doubled its predator survivors of the previous generation,
resulting in a starting number of two spoon predators, zero fork knife predators, and six fingers
predators. For generation two, spoon, fork, and knife species yielded zero predator survivors and
fingers yielded four. The third generation doubled the previous predator survivors to result in a
starting number of eight fingers predators and zero of the species of spoon, fork, and knife. Generation
three had five fingers predator survivors and zero of the other

Ethical Hacking
Chapter 1
1.0 Introduction
With the tremendous advancement of Internet, different aspects of it are achieving the highest peak of
growth. An example of it is e commerce. More and more computers get connected to the Internet,
wireless devices and networks are booming and sooner or later, nearly every electronic device may
have its own IP address. The complexity of networks is increasing, the software on devices gets more
sophisticated and user friendly interacting with other devices and people are a main issues. At the
same time, the complexity of the involved software grows, life cycles are getting shorter and
maintaining high quality is difficult. Most users want (or need) to have access to information from all

An ethical hacker is therefore a good hacker, somebody who uses the methods and tools of the
blackhat [4] community to test the security of networks and servers. The goal of an ethical hack is
neither to do damage nor to download any valuable information it s more a service for a client to test
his environment on how it would withstand a hacker attack. The final output from an ethical hack is
mostly a detailed report about the detected problems and vulnerabilities. Many times, the report does
even have instructions on how to remove certain abilities. Ethical hacking does perfectly fit into the
security life cycle (see figure 1.1). Ethical hacking is a way of doing a security assessment a current
situation (from a technical point of view) can be checked. Like all other assessments (or audits), an
ethical hack is a random sample and passing an ethical hack doesn t mean there are no security issues.
An ethical hack s results is a detailed report of the findings as well as a testimony that a hacker with a
certain amount of time and skills is or isn t able to successfully attack a system or get access to certain
information.

Analysis Of The Street By Ann Petry
Being new to an unfamiliar place is always a challenge and bring discomfort, being alone and
knowing no one. In The Street , Ann Petry uses personification, selection of detail, and imagery in
order to reveal Lutie s relationship to the urban setting and to show the challenges Lutie Johnson faces
in the urban environment. At the beginning of the passage, Petry uses imagery in order to set the
environment in which the main character is introduced. Petry starts off with a cold November wind
blowing through the 116th street in order to show the environment as cold and breezy by saying the
cold wind that is blowing around they urban city and the dirt blowing around into people s eyes to
introduce the setting. She then goes to further introduce the setting by talking about the scraps of
paper flying around and how it did everything it could in order to discourage the people walking along
the streets. This allows the reader to picture the urban setting by appealing to their sense of touch
where you can feel the cold climate in the city and create a picture in their mind of garbage and paper
flying around and hindering the people s lives. Petry uses this in order to highlight Lutie Johnson s
eventual introduction to the urban setting and her unfamiliarity with the urban by letting us predict the
challenges Lutie Johnson will soon face there. Petry is able to create images in our head in order to
show Lutie Johnson in the urban setting; you are able to feel the cold,

  • 2. Tennis Ball Test Lab Report Tennis Ball Test SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT 29 Jan 15 By Jimmetrius Winters REVIEW OF LITERATURE: For this experiment we researched the dimension of the tennis ball and basketball. The dimension of the tennis ball is 2.700 inches. The dimension of the basketball is 29.5 inches. A reason that a tennis ball is explained best by Tara Thackery. The motion of energy defines kinetic energy. According to Exploratorium, when you throw a tennis ball and it lands on the floor, it gains kinetic energy. The molecules in the tennis ball begin to stretch apart. Then, they squeeze back together. As this process occurs, the ball gains more energy and is able to bounce off the ground. • 4. Between John F Kennedy And Martin Luther King Jr The Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men are created equal yet many African Americans were denied equal liberty because of the color of their skin. Due to this unfit justice a small group of gallant men began a long struggle to reshape a nation based on their view of equality. Among these men, two stood out the most; John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. Both were known to many as inspirational and significant leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, whom invested their power and belief towards equality. Three key events that led to the enactment of the Civils Right Act of 1964 include John F. Kennedy s 1963 Civil Rights speech, Martin Luther King s I Have a Dream speech, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lastly, these events ended public segregation and led to employment equality for all regardless of their skin color. There was a point in time when African Americans were beaten, harassed, and treated unfairly due to their skin color. Martin Luther King, Jr. helped people realize the power of ... • 5. The Monster Figurative Language The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring. By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song. Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Us Strategy For Winning The Global War On Terrorism In light of this, it should be mentioned that the US strategy for winning the Global War on Terrorism is predicated on creating an international environment inhospitable to terrorists and all those who support them (Fogarty 2001). Meaning, that the fight against terrorism heavily relies on international cooperation. In order to achieve such a feat, nevertheless, America must be amiable by fellow governments and their citizens. Unfortunately, the reports and findings on GTMO makes it increasingly difficult for the American administration to do so, for the inhumane treatment makes citizens of other countries upset. Quoting General Colin Powell, people from other nation states are beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism (Duberstein as cited in Washington Monthly 2008). This proves to be an immense hindrance to the war, as America cannot hope to face all of the world s terrorists alone. To put this in perspective, one can take a look at the situation with Turkey and Russia. Earlier this year, a Russian jet was shot down by Turkey, having flown into the latter s airspace without permission (BBC 2015). Granted, there lies in factors such as the decades long animosity between the two countries. Albeit, who s to say that America s relations with countries will never reach such lows? Rather, previous Secretary of Defence Chuck Hagel says that one of the greatest long term dangers America faces is that we are now mistrusted by many nations, even our ... • 7. Positive Aspects Of Love Through several types of research and experiments, Barbara Fredrickson concluded that love is a vital nutrient in the human body. She claims that love is the body s supreme emotion , however, negative emotion is just as important. The essay focused primarily on the positive aspects of interaction and barely touches upon the negative. Fredrickson makes it seem as though love is the only emotion the human body needs in order to survive, but that is false. Human social interaction is all composed of psychology and biology. Every human is different, and not all expect to receive positive resonance when speaking to another. In actuality, negative emotions are necessary for one to develop and fully understand the positive... being happy all the time is absurd Fredrickson claims that positivity resonance is beneficial to the human body. Despite this, there are several negative social interactions that occur everyday. She seems to be suggesting that people should only be positive. Though many people try desperately to attain a lifetime of happiness and positivity, they cannot. Humans have several different emotions, and no one can be positive all the time. When an infant and parent do click, their coordinated motions and emotions show lots of mutual positive engagement... They connect over mutual distress or indifference, rather than over mutual affection (Fredrickson 116 117). • 11. The Destructors Analysis Stephen Alexander Smith Miss Shackel AP English Literature 13 September 2017 A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society. Graham Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader learns that the gang does not refer to Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards referred to (Greene 116). The members of the Wormsley Common Gang understand that Trevor is the name given to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Man s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl Essay Life was consumed by constant orders, labor, malnutrition, disease, and murder in the concentration camps. Yet somehow the human psyche in many individuals was able to endure throughout these imprisonments. Men and women were almost completely dehumanized during this genocide, but their psyche survived it. People had to find little things to keep themselves content and to nurture their psyche. Humor was another of the soul s weapons in the fight for self preservation (63). Humor allows a person to escape a situation and rise above it, even if only for a short time. Humor can never be taken away from anyone because it is naturally within us. Humor within the concentration camps allowed people, for even a split second, to feel like they ... The last of the human freedoms to choose one s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one s own way (86). This relates to being an optimist. This report will focus on the privacy and reliability related issues concerning cloud computing security, and how these risks can be approached. II. Technical Summary The report that I selected focused on the development of cloud computing in security issues related with the privacy and reliability, the key factors of affecting the security risks, and also the suggestions and recommendations for these risks. The expectations for reliability of the cloud continues to grow as more and more applications are developed based on cloud service. To meet those expectations, cloud service providers need to understand the challenges and find ways to increase the reliability of cloud services, and also ways to avoid the risks. Some of the risks that affect the reliability of the cloud is co residency and multi tenancy, downtime, and latency challenges. Co residency is when multiple services are held in a server. This makes it difficult to predict the performance of an application. Reliability can be affected by other services that are busy. Multi tenancy is when multiple independent instances of an application can be consolidated on a single virtualized platform. The instances can then be available simultaneously to various groups of users. Multi tenancy has the same cost benefits and challenges as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The chief of the police, Mr. Michel Ange Gedeon was summoned to the Haitian National Palace in Port au Prince accompanied by two aides. Mr. Gedeon was received by President Moise flanked by Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of the Police was presented with a list of people the president demanded that he fire immediately, or else he would ask the Haitian Senate to terminate him. The president reportedly told the chief: I control the majority of the Senate and I will see to it that you are gone pronto. The Congressional Reconstruction period generated the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth amendments into the United States Constitution. These amendments extended legal and civil protections to former slaves. Ferguson was a U.S. Supreme Court case that supported the right for states to pass laws allowing racial segregation in public and private institutions such as schools, public transportation, restrooms, etc. The Plessy v. Ferguson case was important in the course of United States history, because its outcome upheld the belief that racial segregation was legal under the separate but equal doctrine. To consume soft drinks to the point of excess can lead to the deterioration of an individual s health. This may appear to be a self regarding action until one considers the cost such individuals impose on taxpayers. Citizens whose unhealthy lifestyles regularly land them in the hospital eat up government health care, at which point their actions cease to be self regarding and become harmful to society at large. With this in mind, are we still to protect individuals liberty to drink soda pop? Soft drink firms may point to Mill in arguing that the accountability for such harm lies not with soda, but with the society that raises gluttonous individuals. The White House is a place that stands as a symbol of what America as a country represents; which can produce a powerful effect, either positive or negative, upon the emotions of those who see it. Giving a character a name makes them more personable, leaving a character unnamed would usually make them less memorable. It is difficult to remember much about a character that you can not address by name. However, in this situation, being nameless creates a distinct and intriguing character. It forces the audience to question why these choices were made, and this allows the audience to use their imagination and think about what type of person Andre s Mother was. • 37. The Age of Enlightment In Europe in the early 17th century, Christianity was the dominant religion. Most countries believed that it was the only acceptable one, and that there should not be any toleration for other religions. In many countries, the monarchs (or the other rulers) would enforce Christianity and persecute people with other beliefs. Some of these beliefs, however, changed during the Age of Enlightenment from the late 1600 s to the mid 1700 s. The philosophers during the Age of Enlightenment influenced peoples way of thinking through their ideas of reason, empiricism, and the power of nature. The ideas that the philosophers had eliminated the stranglehold that religion had on the people and the government. Through the heavy influence of John Locke, Isaac Newton, and other philosophers, alternative religions, mainly deism, emerged, which changed how people viewed themselves and their relationship to government. Through their discoveries and theories, the philosophers during the Age of Enlightenment greatly affected the way that people viewed themselves. Isaac Newton was the first of these philosophers to alter the views of the people of the time. Newton believed that the key to discovery was trial and error. He believed that no one should firmly believe in anything unless it was distinctly proven. This idea is known as empiricism. Along with these views, he also believed that there was a scientific and mathematical reason for everything on earth. Rather than God being the only cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Health Policy And Impact On Vulnerable Populations Health Policy and Impact on Vulnerable Populations Tram Nguyen Arizona State University Health Policy and Impact on Vulnerable Populations (Title) Pneumonia is a form of acute respiratory infection which is caused by a bacterium called Streptococcus pneumoniae. Pneumonia is transmitted via air borne droplets from coughing and sneezing, and it may also spread through blood. In 2015, pneumonia killed 15 percent of all deaths in children under the age of five, becoming the leading cause of death in children all over the world (World Health Organization [WHO], 2015a). Many efforts were made to reduce the prevalence of pneumonia, including the free vaccination program in 2011 against pneumonia in Kenya, which is supported by WHO and GAVI Alliance (WHO, 2015b). However, in 2012, Kenya was still ranked among the 15 countries with the highest number of deaths cause by pneumonia, suggesting problems with current policies (Onyango, Kikuvi, Amukoye, Omolo, 2012). This paper will evaluate these existing policies and discuss potential solutions to overcome the epidemic of pneumonia in Kenya. Population and Geographic Area Located in Eastern Africa, Kenya lies across the equator in central Africa. Each one possesses their own distinguishing features. We will look at the key players at each level as well as jurisdictional rules, interpretation issues as well as the effect of evolving technology on court proceedings at each level. State courts are established by each individual state and within the state there being local courts that are established by cities, counties, and other municipalities. Federal courts are limited to the types of cases that are listed in the Constitution and specifically provided for by the Congress. The types of cases mentioned above that are not permitted in the state courts are therefore tried in the federal courts. The defendant in the Commonwealth vs Huguely case was from the state of Maryland but the crime of Murder in the 2nd degree was actually committed in Charlottesville, Virginia, therefore the jurisdiction for prosecution lies with the Charlottesville County Circuit Court. George Huguely V was originally charged with murder in the first degree which he was acquitted of but later found to be guilty of murder in the 2nd degree and grand larceny. State courts handle a much larger volume of cases and have more contact with the public than the federal courts do. While federal courts do hear a much smaller number of cases, the cases they do hear tend to be of national importance. John G. Roberts, Jr. is currently the Chief Justice of the United Stated Supreme Court. In addition to Hon. Orphans in Nineteenth-Century England Essay Orphans in Nineteenth Century England There is no denying that the nineteenth century in England was a time of tremendous changes throughout the social and economical spectrums. As the adults adjusted to these changes prompted by the Industrial Revolution as best they could, many children, in particular orphans, were faced with poor living conditions that limited their successes later in life. Although most orphaned children were fortunate enough to be placed into sufficient living circumstances, many of them were not as privileged. Most of these orphaned children were brought up within the family circle by grandparents, older siblings, or aunts and uncles (Horn 63). When orphans became members of new households they were normally accepted as just another member of the family, that is, if the new guardians were of the same social class as the parents. However, any inferiority in social class among the former parents of the orphan compared with his/her new guardians often resulted in the orphan s mistreatment and neglect. This is not surprising when considering the clear social distinction that was maintained among the different classes throughout the nineteenth century in England. Among children, these class distinctions were as obvious as they were among adults. There were often negative feelings and rivalries between children of different classes. Lower class children were usually forbidden to speak with children of higher status; however, upper class children who were seen walking without an adult escort would often get heckled by the lower class children living on the street. Some children resented these restrictions, although disobedience was seldom considered (Horn 25). This type of behavior greatly contributed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Failure of the Constitution to Meet the Needs of a Rapidly Changing Society When the Constitution was written by the Founding Fathers back in 1787, they intentionally made it so that it could survive over time. They made it flexable so because they envisaged that there were problems that they could not forsee in the future, these are things such as the Depression of the late twenties and early thirties. The Framers intended for the amendment process to be the main way of updating the constitution and through time this has been evident. This shows that there is an essential part of the democratic process missing due to flaws in the constitution. When the constitution was first written in 1787 there was a strong possibility of war, so when the founding fathers drew up the constitution they added in an article which said that all people have the right to bear arms. This article has been problematic ever since. Within the last decade there have been many high profile shootings in schools such as Columbine, this has led to a stronger fight against the gun laws. There are those such as the National Rifle Association who say that that right can not be taken away from them as it is one of their constitution rights but there is a problem with that as within the preamble there is the mention of insuring domestic tranquillity, can this be done when there are children who can gain easy access to guns, there are also the problems with the number of deaths due to gun crimes, the right to life is also mentioned in the constitution. The flexibility of the constitution is crucial to its longevity as if it was too rigid it would not have lasted, there may be the problem though that it is too flexible. Over the years there hav been many changes in the federal system, most notably the introduction of Roosevelts New Deal which saw the power shift more towards the central government, then there was ... Beans of four different phenotypes (white, green, black, and red) represented the prey. The predators hunted prey for 30 seconds three times symbolizing three generations. In The Street , Ann Petry uses personification, selection of detail, and imagery in order to reveal Lutie s relationship to the urban setting and to show the challenges Lutie Johnson faces in the urban environment. At the beginning of the passage, Petry uses imagery in order to set the environment in which the main character is introduced. Petry starts off with a cold November wind blowing through the 116th street in order to show the environment as cold and breezy by saying the cold wind that is blowing around they urban city and the dirt blowing around into people s eyes to introduce the setting. She then goes to further introduce the setting by talking about the scraps of paper flying around and how it did everything it could in order to discourage the people walking along the streets. This allows the reader to picture the urban setting by appealing to their sense of touch where you can feel the cold climate in the city and create a picture in their mind of garbage and paper flying around and hindering the people s lives. Petry uses this in order to highlight Lutie Johnson s eventual introduction to the urban setting and her unfamiliarity with the urban by letting us predict the challenges Lutie Johnson will soon face there.
