Vertigo And Falls Case Study
Complaint Vertigo and falls. History Patient is an 81 year old right handed white male who
presents with his wife for evaluation of dizziness . He states that he has had this for two years,
at least. He notes that it occurs mostly when he stands up, at which point he will feel like he is
going to fall. He describes this as an actual head spinning, so it is a true vertigo. It is not merely
lightheadedness. He does note that if he lies flat on his back in bed, he does not have the
vertigo, but if he rolls over onto either side, he will develop a spinning sensation. It is aborted by
rolling back onto his back. He notes that if he gets up quickly at night to go to the bathroom, he
will have marked problems with balance. He usually sits on the edge of the bed and moves his
arms and legs until he feels that the vertigo has gone away, at which point, he can... Show more

He has had two falls recently. They both occurred when he first got out of bed in the morning
and started to walk without taking those few seconds to orient himself. One of them resulted in
him hitting the bureau. The other one did not result in any injury. He has not had any closed
head trauma with the falls and the falls have not worsened in the vertigo. He does have a history
of skull fracture 60 years ago due to a motor vehicle accident, at which point, he was in a coma
for 18 days. He has amnesia for most of that time. He is unable to tell me if there were any
cognitive or movement sequela from that. He does have cervical stenosis with an MRI of the

Cuba Is A Unique Nation In Which It’S Culture Has Been
Cuba is a unique nation in which it s culture has been defined as a result of incorporating different
customs from various nations over time. Beginning in the 1500s, the Spanish would be the first
migrants to inhabit the island. Not only did the Spanish bring their customs along with them, but
fifteen years after their arrival they also brought African slaves onto the island. Even through the
hardships of slavery and oppression, the African s maintained practices and preserved aspects of
their culture that were eventually incorporated into Cuban culture as a whole. The young nation
also saw various nations and ethnicities, such as Haitians and Americans as time progressed. Like
their migrant predecessors, these individuals would also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the remainder of Indians that were still alive in hiding or under Spanish rule as slaves, the
Spaniards were able to freely impose their culture, eradicating that of the Indians.
After the Indian slave population diminished, the Spanish brought in African slaves to fill the
gaps in the work force. However, like their oppressed predecessors, the slaves eventually rebelled
too. With slavery falling out of fashion across the globe in the late 1800s, Carlos Cespedes, a sugar
planter in Cuba followed suit and freed his slaves in 1868 to help start and fight in a rebellion
against the Spanish crown (Class Notes, 2/21/17). The interesting concept explored in this rebellion
concerns the notion of African slaves and local Cuban s working together. Two parties with
different ethnic backgrounds came together to fight the dictatorial rulers of the country. Through
this union and expression of transculturation as both backgrounds believed in the ideology of equal
rights, the conflict eventually grew in size and became known as the Ten Year s War. Although the
Spanish regained control after the war s end, it signalled a shift in ideology on the island away from
the Spanish crown, and eventually lead to the abolition of slavery and ultimately independence
from Spain. Ethnic Conflict and Tension
The early Christian Church in Spanish controlled Cuba was one of the first groups to call for the
abolition of slavery; however, they approached the concept prior to Cespedes and from a

Different Methods Of Qualitative Research
This essay will look at the qualitative approaches to research and look into more detail at the main
traditions and theoretical approaches to qualitative research, the main research methods associated
with qualitative research; and the main criticisms that are frequently levelled at qualitative research.
There are many different definitions of qualitative research; one definition that defines it well is; a
means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or
human problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically
collected in the participant s setting. (Creswell, J. 2009)
There are many different methods of qualitative research and the approaches used include narrative,
phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. The narrative approach retells a
person s story across time; it explores what the story means and the lessons to be learnt from it. The
goal of phenomenological research is to describe participants experiences in a specific context and
understand a phenomenon.
Grounded theory research looks at a process, an action or an interaction with the goal of
developing a theory. The researcher attempts to derive a general, abstract theory of a process,
action, or interaction grounded in the views of participants in a study. This process involves using
multiple stages of data collection and the refinement and interrelationship of categories of
information (Strauss Corbin,

Will is quite the typical teenager, he does not like attention and has a set of rules he likes to live

Ear Infection Research Paper
Sound is in our everyday life. When you wake we hear the sound of life. You hear sound when
your walking, talking or listening to music. What exactly is sound? Sound is vibration that travels
through the air , sound could be heard by a person or animals. People rely on sounds to
communicate. Noise help us communicate when talking to others, in danger, and in other
scenarios. Animals also hear, even animals that live under the water. Only the top receives light
from the sun, so water animals have a difficult time using their eyes to find their way in the deep
water. Whenever, the water animals dive in deep waters, they depend on their hearing to sense of
the environment. We all know earinfections are horrible. Ear Infections are also known as Otitis

Impact Of Labor Force In The 21st Century
There is a great change going on in employment trend and labor force in the U.S. in 21st century
because of aging, diversity immigrants and few other factors and it s a dramatic change, from
1950 to 2050. This massive demographic change has an impact on the number of people working
or people looking for work. In the beginning of 21st centurythe demand for laborforce has increased
which is one of the main source for growth and economic progress. Growth rate in population
and labor force has changed the trend in employment today compare to 1950. Today more older
people are working, its more diversified and more women are involved at workplace. There are
going to be significant changes in coming years compare to past 50 years. For example, labor
growth rate will be less than what we had in past 50 years. As per the Mitra Toossi s article A
century of change: the U.S. labor force, 1950 2015 , The high growth rate of civilian labor force
in the past 50 years will be replaced by much lower growth rates in the next 50 years . The main
reason to this slowdown in growth of the labor force is high tech innovation which is reducing the
demand of traditional labor force.
Another demographic change in the employment trend is the change in gender structure. We have
seen more number of women at workplace compare past 50 years and their number at work place
are increasing very fast. This change came because of equal rights to women at workplace plus
they are more involved with their

Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Paper
Regenerative Medicine: Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of Age related Macular
Degeneration Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness for
people 60 years of age and older in the developed world. Vision loss is caused by the destruction
of the cone photoreceptors, located in the macula, that are responsible for color/central vision.
The underlying cause of AMD is the loss of the monolayer of pigmented epithelial cells located
just below the photoreceptors, known as the retinal pigmentum epithelium (RPE). The main role
of the RPE is to maintain the function of the photoreceptor layer by secreting nutrients,
absorbing stray light, and recycling debris used during the visual cycle. As a person ages the
efficiency of the RPE layer is diminished causing a build up of toxic by products. These toxic
build ups, known as drusens, result in the separation and death of the photoreceptor and RPE
layers. AMD is speculated to result from as many as 20 different genetic mutations and as a result
there is no known cure for the disease (CITE), but recent advances in stem cell therapy is a hopeful
step in the right direction.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are many different stem cells found in humans. The biggest distinction between them is their
relative abilities to produce different tissues in the body, known as potency. For example,
embryonic stem cells (ESC) are pluripotent and capable of differentiating into all of the tissue of
the body, while hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) an adult stem cell are multipotent and only able to

Due Process
Due Process
Crystal Groff
Strayer University
Professor Freeman
Abstract
We all wonder what the words life, liberty, and property derived from. In this paper I will be
explaining what due process is and how it relates to life, liberty, and property. I will also explain
where due process came from and what 2 amendments relate to due process. Before we start though
I would like you to know that due process is there to protect the defendant under proving guilty.
Define due process and its origin? Due process refers to a set of established legal principles,
derived from the Constitution, that seek to protect the rights if citizens. It is done to insure that the
government treats all the individuals properly and does not abuse ... Show more content on

Substantive refers to the specific rights being denied, even if the process is deemed fair. Actions
are taken by the state in a process that would be considered fair, but could still be challenged on
the basis that it improperly denies a right. Substantive is which includes all your basic
amendment rights. An example could be Griswold vs. Connecticut (1995). Connecticut law
made it illegal for doctors to dispense birth control to their patients. The court ruled that the law
violated the Constitution not because it was passed or applied improperly, but because it denied
that patients their right to privacy. Another example could be the law that Pennsylvania has that
everyone that wants to vote will need to show a valid ID to prove that no laws are being broken.
This applies because it goes against a person right to speech and freedom. One good example I
like to think due process came from was from the Bible on the Garden of Eden, because God did
not immediately punish them. The first thing that God did was ask Where art thou Adam?
Thereby giving him notice. God gave him a chance to be heard by asking Didn t thou eat the
forbidden fruit (The Beginning, 2007)? In my options this in when due process came into affects;
no one would like to relate due process to the Garden of Eden time.

National Symbols Of Guatemala And Its Effect On The...
corn, bananas, coffee, beans, and chickens (The World Fact book, Economy). In the past few
years Guatemala is experiencing drought and it is affecting the country s farming capabilities.
Recent statistics gathered by VoaNews estimate about 900,000 individuals are troubled by this
issue. Like many matters, this has caused a chain reaction resulting in an increase of
unemployment. Although a challenge, I envision a possible business opportunity to alter this
effect. A strategy that came into mind was a tool utilized to decrease the amount of water
irrigated. There is currently a watering system used for a similar purpose called the Tree T Pee
(Tree T Pee Site). It would be a great approach to invest and incorporate a modification that can be
used in lands abroad like Guatemala. It could also increase the employment rate and create new
jobs. Despite the downfalls, Guatemala continues to be well known for its beauty and culture that
comes from the indigenous people. For example, one of the most important national symbols in
Guatemala is the Quetzal. Studies (Standford University, Para. 6) based on the national bird stated
that the Mayan people viewed this bird as a symbol of love, light, and happiness. Another great
symbol is Guatemala s national hero (Stanford University site, para. 7). The national hero is

The First Generation Of The Family
Mike had given a speech to Bodnar about the hardships that the men went through in the mills.
He wondered if God had put him on his earth was to be worked in the furnaces. Once I used to ask
myself, Is this what the good God put me on earth for, to work my life away in Carnegie s blast
furnaces, to live and die in Braddock s alleys? I couldn t believe it. Now I know that God had
nothing to do with it. Chance rules the world (Bell, 197). Mike felt everyone should lovethe job
they work in and shouldn t feel as if they re not appreciated. I don t mind work. But a man should
be allowed to love his work and take pride in it (Bell, 196).
The third generation of the family seemed to be the strongest willed. Mike and Mary s son, Dobie,
did everything George wouldn t do and was against not standing up to anyone. He created the birth
of labor unionism during his time working at the steel mills. It was against the law to join this labor
unionism act. Many of the mills were go into protests about how they were getting treating working
at the mills and they weren t afraid to speak their mind. This interest Dobie that something needed
to be done and he started to met with lawyers and investigators. Eventually he was able to get the
steel corporation to sign a contract to end the hardships with the steel mills. The steel corporation
signed a contract with the S.W.O.C. and the most important job ever undertaken by organized labor
in America ended with victory for the union (Bell,

The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc )
This week saw the Fair Work Commission (FWC) bring down an adjustment to Penalty rates in
Australia for some Retail and Hospitality Workers. If you read the newspapers, listen to the radio,
and watch TV coverage it comes across as the greatest betrayal of the working man (or woman)
since the great Depression.
In this article I ll give my view on this. Disclaimer: I own a couple of Small Business s which
(potentially) benefit from this decision. I have looked after the HR department of a larger ASX
listed company in the past and have some reasonable HR experience. I also really think retail
shops should be closed on a Sunday so people can do other (more sociable, community and family
friendly) activities rather than trudging around shops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In relation to Sunday rates, the commission cut: Hospitality award rates for full time and part time
workers from 175% to 150% Fast food award rates for level one employees from 150% to 125% for
full time and part time employees and from 175% to 150% for casuals Retail award rates for full
time and part time employees from 200% to 150% and for casuals from 200% to 175% Pharmacy
award rates from 200% to 150% for full time and part time workers for work between 7am and
9pm, and from 200% to 175% for casuals at the same times.
Sunday rates remained at 175% for casuals in the hospitality industry, and there was no cut for
level two and three employees in the fast food award. The commission cut public holiday rates in
the hospitality and retail awards except for clubs from 250% to 225% for full time and part time
employees. The casuals rate will be 250%.
Interestingly the FWC sis not adjust the penalty rates for the Award that governs restaurants.
The Summary of the FWC ruling can be found here: https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/sites
/awardsmodernfouryr/2017fwcfb1001 summary.pdf Big Business Response
Unsurprisingly the employer groups have come out and stated that this would lead to an increase in
employment. Being generous (cynical) I would suggest that it will lead to more employment for
lobbyists. Given the reductions in penalty rates simply apply for Sundays, and are really minor in
nature, I

The Ignorance Of Truth In The Matrix
The Matrix is a film about a simulated reality in which humans are programmed to a neural
interactive simulation. The film is very similar to the bible due to the way that it has used
symbolism to present situations and scenes. The Gospel of John and some scriptures from the bible
were taken to compare to the film to show similarity and relevance. There are themes in which the
Bibleand the Matrixhave in common and these are ; evil is living in the ignorance of truth,

The effectiveness of how The Matrix portrayed the gospel will also be discussed in this
paragraph. The Matrix had a scene, in which Neo fought Agent Smith to defeat the darkness and
release the human race from the simulated reality. Neo was shot not only once, but multiple
times and repeatedly. He fell and was shot even more. Neo was dead for 72 seconds which can be
interpreted as 72 hours which is equivalent to 3 days. He was brought back by love, which was
Trinity and her kiss. As Trinity leaned forward, This is the kiss of life she whispered. The kiss
of life can be interpreted as the breath of life . When Neo returned, he was more powerful than
ever. Managing to defeat Agent Smith and his posse, by dodging their bullets and powerful
blows. Jesus however did not die to to come back even more powerful, he died for people s sins,
and was resurrected because of the power of God s love. Neo proved that death can be overcome
and by achieving this, he has managed to open up a possibility in which everybody is able to
recognise death and evil. When this is done, they will realise that death and evil is not as
powerful as love due to it being a stronger force. In the Bible, it talked about how a person must

I am going to write a film analysis essay for the film The Dark Knight. My chosen essay topic is:
Analyse how visual or sound effects were used to emphasise a theme in the visual or oral text(s). I
need to show how the main themes of showing morality when making decisions and the power
held by the villain are presented in the film through the use of dialogue, camerawork, sound, and

and you might want to decide quickly because the people on the other boat might not be so
noble. This is The Joker s way of giving the passengers an ultimatum. Live and kill, or be killed.
His experiment furthers the effect of his actions as an anarchist on the people of Gotham, as the
passengers are left in shock and have to make a life or death decision in such a small amount of
time. The lack of hesitation in his relaxed voice makes it clear to the audience that this was a
well rehearsed and planned announcement. He had organised this and was then ready to begin
to carry out his experiment, in which he expected at least one boat full of people to die as a

statement he was able to terrorise people and leave them with such as difficult decision to make.
All scenarios he had implied to the passengers resulted in at least one ferry being blown up, while
he would remain unaffected by the outcome. As well as creating a feeling of fear and suspense for
the audience, who are watching the scene play out to discover the outcome, it also makes the
viewer question: What is the right and wrong decision to make? What would you do if it was you
in that situation? At the end of the scene,

In ancient numerology interpretations the 5 stands in the center of all primary numbers. This is an
exciting pattern for freedom, movement, change, diversity and variety. One 5 is pleasant because
it brings in the qualities of the five pointed star or pentagram. This is a visual of man/woman with
arms stretched out into all corners of the biosphere and the heavens. Man/woman is represented as
the microcosm of the macrocosm within the 5 pattern. Essentially, this pattern brings in the free

one 5 can represent the rebel as it does so with Jungarian archetypes. What if a person had more

Three Categories Of Crimes
Crimes come in all different types and in all different variations and in different levels of how
grotesque they are but all happen to fall under the same three categories. Crimes are classified by
three different categories, Infractions, Misdemeanors, and Felonies but then crimes are broken
down more within each of these categories and the sentences for these can range from a fine to
the death penalty. Each state has its own set of laws for which they follow for all crimes
committed and what the sentences or fines should be given for the crimes in question and if
they cannot decide how it should be ruled over then they can look to past cases that had set
precedent for those crimes and see the old ruling and determine from there. Infractions are the
smallest of all three of these because this just includes a fine, no jail time, you have no right to a
trial by a jury, or an attorney/public defender. These are normally considered a petty offense is the

Examining a cluster of media communication in order to review common and unique approaches

was not as easy as I expected when explained in class; but, it was interesting and seeing as though I
have learned over the years through my other classes that the average American spends somewhere
near 8 hours of their day watching television, the marketing industry has a big advantage using
commercials to attract their viewers and manipulate them into purchasing and using or consuming

these commercials seem to be heavily concentrated on adults, the activities they take part in, and the
resources they will need for future endeavors. I was unable to document a significant difference in
the types of commercials shown during these programs in order to have much of a comparison, but
there was enough alike about them to dissect them and really figure out the methods which
broadcasting companies use in order to attract their buyers and consumers. For every television
channel I have ever watched throughout my life the commercials have always been significantly
louder than the actual show I am viewing; not just for these two channels, but I did notice it more
when actually having to pay attention. Why does this annoying thing constantly happen every
channel I choose to watch? The answer to this question: marketing purposes. It is in the companies
best interest on becoming successful with the product they are attempting to sell by turning the
volume up on their commercials louder than the actual television show because it attracts the
viewers and manipulates them in to paying attention to them. People are not watching television

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Endometriomas
The primary outcome of interest was the suturing time. The secondary outcomes were total
operative time, suturing difficulty, intraoperative blood loss, perioperative complications and the
impact of surgery on ovarian reserve.
Statistical analysis
Statistical calculations were performed using Microsoft Excel 2010 (Microsoft Corporation, NY,
USA) and SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science; SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA)
version 15 for Microsoft Windows. Student s t and П‡2 tests were used to compare continuous and
categorical variables respectively. A probability value (p value) of less than 0.05 was considered
significant.
Results
Between December 2014 and March 2016, 86 consecutive patients with endometriomas were
assessed for eligibility. Forty one patients did not meet inclusion criteria and five patients declined
to participate in the study. Figure 1 illustrates the flow of the patients through the study.
Both groups were comparable as regard to age, body mass index, parity, indications for surgery,
basal FSH and mean endometrioma diameter (Table 1).

Essay The Danger in Youth Sports
It was a bright, sunny, hot day at the end of august. Our football team had an amazing offensive
line as we were stacked with linemen each exceeding over 200 pounds. There were many pressures
on us to be a very good team and they pushed us all very hard to be the best. Practice five days a
week with lifting on the other two days, no days off was our motto! Our scrimmage had gone very
well that day and as it was coming to an end, the starters were out and we were taking our pads off
when I heard my coach yell from the side that one of the players got a stinger and he needed me
back in. I threw my pads back on and went in. The play was called and the ball was run to my side.

Not only coaches, but parents are very aggressive when it comes to sports and it puts a lot of
pressure of the kids who play it and suck all the fun out of the love of the game. Children are
physically and verbally abused to be the best and can be discouraged at a very young age and
have low self esteem. Injuries are at an all time high and this is very dangerous for the
development of kids. Children face verbal and physical abuse at a young age because of overly
competitive parents and coaches and because of that, they never learn the most important thing
about playing sports, having fun. Youth sports have been around since the early to mid 1900s and
have become in institution, especially in North America. Sports such as baseball, hockey, football,
soccer and many others accumulate 44 million kids per year. Little league baseball was created by
Carl Stotz in 1939 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. As of 2014, there are 500,000 organized little
league baseball teams in the United States alone. The organization of little league baseball has
now spread over the whole world where they compete in the little league world series. The first
youth football team was founded in 1929 by Joseph J. Tomlin in Philadelphia. He started a 4 team
league called the Junior Football Conference, which would later change its name to Pop Warner
football in honor of the legendary Temple football

Symbols Of The Caribbean Culture
There are multiple cultures around the world that influence a country s way of living. A culture is
the way in which certain groups behave, think, and what tangible objects they bring value to. The
Colombian culture is profoundly influenced by the Spanish culture, but has many distinct factors
that allow it to properly function. The first component of culture is symbols. Symbols are anything
with significance and value shared by the people in a culture. A symbolmost countries value is their
national flag. The colors of the Colombian flag each symbolize a characteristic ideal for a strong
country. The yellow horizontal stripe is a reference to the wealth in gold Colombiawithheld before
the arrival of Spaniards. The blue depicts the oceans lining the outer regions of the country. A
second interpretation of the flag s blue color is the country s loyalty and consciousness. Lastly, the
red reflects the bravery Colombians inherited during their victorious fight for independence as well
as a recognition for those who lost their lives (Colombia s National Symbols, 2017). Another
national symbolin Colombia is the Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms is a national symbol of their
motto Libertad y Orden which translates to Liberty and Order . The national bird, Andean condor,
has an important meaning to the roots of Colombians, dating back to the indigenous Andean
culture. The Andean people used the vulture as a symbol of health and power. Gestures as well are

The World Is Growing Leaps And Bounds
INTRODUCTION The world is growing leaps and bounds when it comes to business compared
to the previous years and it continues to see this growth in the future years. Globalisation has
played a major role in all walks of life including business. Due to globalisation there are more and
more players emerging in the market which has resulted in the globe becoming smaller and
smaller, when it comes to business. The competition in the worldwide market is really intense
which asks for the companies to be way better than their competitors. The companies in today s
world really have to fight it out really hard to have a good standing in the market against their
competitors. They should always work towards retaining their customers or else their customers
will change their preferences which will in turn result in the company losing their market share and
the competitive edge. The companies should always come up with some good strategies to stay on
par with their competitors in the market. The companies should give upmost importance to
planning in their day to day activities in an organisation. The area of organisational planning has
become a critical area for consideration in this world of business which is ever growing and the

Crime And Punishment Conservatism
The novel Crime and Punishment was written during a time when science based ideas about
civilization and evolution were beginning to replace religious or mystical ideas. Many people,
under the guise of being intellectuals, subscribed to these theories and promoted them because the
theories made them seem superior to their fellow men. Author Fyodor Dostoevsky incorporated
many of these theories into the perspectives of the characters in his novel, suggesting that despite
their presentation as new or revolutionary, they were simply re workings of older ideas re fitted
for the modern era. Dostoevsky uses Raskolnikov s idea about extraordinary people and
Lebezyatnikov s idea about communes to criticize Social Darwinismand aspects of Radicalism
respectively. By linking the theories with his characters, he also criticizes the type of people who
subscribed to these theories.
Dostoevsky outlines two conflicting theories about crime and humanity that emerged during Russia
s modernization period in the novel. One view, presented by Razumikhin, explains that the
individual is a victim of his environment and the other, held by Raskolnikov, states instead that the
individual is a product of his environment. Raskolnikov s view actually reinforces pre
modernization ideas about a social hierarchy with nobility on top. Similar to the pre modern idea

The Union Organization And The Silkwood V. Kerr Mcgee...
Introduction
The 1983 film Silkwood, was inspired by Karen Silkwood of the monumental Silkwood v. Kerr
McGee Nuclear Corp. (81 2159) whistleblowing case. Silkwood, a union activist and
whistleblower, worked at the Cimarron Kerr McGee Nuclear Fuel Processing facility in Oklahoma
from August 1972 until November 1974. While the activist was investigating alleged corporate
wrongdoing, specifically plutonium contaminations on her body and throughout her house, she was
killed in a suspicious auto accident. The case portrayed in film shows implications for modern
whistleblowers, set a precedent and was essential in creating proper protections for whistleblowers.
This paper will gave background on union organization and the Silkwood v. Kerr McGee Nuclear
Corp. court case and then further analyze the context of the case in modern day whistleblowing.
Silkwood v. Kerr McGee (1979)
After the discovery of plutonium contamination on Karen Silkwood s body and in the apartment,
which she shared with co workers, Silkwood died in a mysterious auto accident. Her father, her
estate administrator, then filed suit against Kerr McGee Nuclear Corporation for personal injury,
mental distress, and property damage.
The Silkwood v. Kerr McGee case raised new questions about safety of workers in the nuclear
industry. At the plant where Silkwood was employed, employees worked with plutonium, which
presents a high risk of serious health complications on the internal organs, tissues, and bone,

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To The Conservation...
One important contribution that Antoine Lavoisier made to chemistry was the conservation of
mass. In France, the law of conservation of mass is commonly referred to as Lavoisier s Law
showing the lasting impression that he made on the world of chemistry (Donovan, 2017). The law,
in its entirety, envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another,
mixtures can be separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will
always remain constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). The law was first identified in the TraitГ©
Г©lГ©mentaire de Chimie, a book that incorporated the foundations of modern chemistryin 1789
(American Chemical Society, 1999). Originally, the law of conservation of mass was an assumption

Images of Women in Sports Essay
Images of Women in Sports
There is, of course, a huge difference between the ways women are typically supposed to act and
what is expected from a typical athlete. Whereas women are expected to comply to their gender
role prescribing passivity and compliance, athletes are connoted with an aggressive, competitive
nature. Furthermore, society trains women to be ashamed of their bodies and supplies an unrealistic
ideal body type and encourages restricting feminine clothing, whereas athletes must have a keen
understanding and appreciation of their bodies. In this way, athletes are implicitly coded as male.

If a woman can still be subject to and controlled by the male gaze (that Laura Mulvey and so
many other art historians have written about), she is not a threat to the status quo and male
power. According to this theory of the gaze, the male protagonist in a film is generally used as
for the presumably male viewer to project his own desire of control over the female image.
Through the onscreen male s gaze, the woman s image may be appropriated and the viewer may
have the illusion of control over the woman. In these films, then, the woman, though she is
seemingly in control of her own body and image through her character in the film, is still
ideologically subjected to male control.
Interestingly, none of the films touched on the issue of homosexuality significantly. This is a
conspicuous absence and one that needs to be considered. In fact, according to movie trivia,
homosexual interest between the two main characters was specifically written out of Bend It Like

Since there is such a large amount of food waste, where does it go? Although not all food waste

represented the production of 1.4 billion hectares of land, equal to about 30 % of the world s
agricultural land area, and larger than the surface of Canada ( Global Food Wastage ). With
landfills taking up such a large percentage of land, there is less land for farmers, housing, and

An example would be the rise in the migration to urban areas and rapid changes in what foods are
wanted by consumers. As people begin to move into urban areas, the amount of farmers and
help begin decreasing. Research has proven that the popularity for urban environments is in a
constant rise. Sadly, recent observations have concluded that the proportion of the world s
population employed in agriculture has declined in recent decades and 50 per cent of the world
s population now lives in urban environments. This proportion is expected to rise to 70 per cent
by 2050 (Parfitt et al., Food Waste within Food Supply Chains ). Being in shape or skinny has
been important for many years. Seventy seven percent of America s population is trying to lose
or maintain their weight ( Americans Concerned about Their Weight ). A fad diet is a popular
diet that usually known for success. Fad diets usually change the foods consumed by the dieter.
As the fads change, so does the demand for different types of food. As the demand for one food
item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the constant changes, it is extremely
difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. As farmers fail to predict the amount of crops
needed, the extra food is more likely to become waste. As the predictability changes, farmers cannot
make profit. This also leads to the decline of farms.

Traditional And Modern Family
The modern family is a controversial topic that many disagree on. Some think that today s modern
family is bad and should be more traditional, with family values of the past, while, on the other
hand, some believe that the modern family, full of technology and evolving family values, is a
good thing and should be celebrated. These opinions about the modern vs traditional familystyle are
not as important as the four main components of a family. These components are the ability to
take the idea of marriage/a relationship serious when considering starting a family, a supportive
and beneficial parent child relationship, a financially stable standing, and the ability to allow
children to make their own decisions about things like political issues. I feel that if these four
parts of a family are not met, then the family will fall apart, which is what we see a lot of in
today s age. Whether it be financial situations that drive a couple apart, a hurtful parent child
relationship, over sheltering of a child so that they follow their parents beliefs and values without
question, or the couple does not take their marriage seriously when considering starting a family,
meaning they do not openly discuss all of the above situations, financial or how to raise a child.

marriage/a relationship seriously. You are able to openly discuss the other components like

For this problem, it simply needs to find the FV of a lump sum using the equation:
FV= PV (1+r) t
It is important to note that the compounding occurs semi annually. To account for this, it will
divide the interest rate by two (the number of compounding periods in a year), and multiply the
number of periods by two. Doing so, it may get:

The Little Prince Literary Criticism
Three aspects are important while analyzing a text according to Psychoanalytical Criticism. These
are the author, characters and the reader. Psychoanalytic critics handle the text like analyzing the
author s own inner world as Ann B. Dobie stated her book Theory into Practice, An Introduction to
Literary Criticism: They see work as an expression of the writer s unconscious mind, an artifact that
can be used to psychoanalyze the writer, producing psycho biography. (2015, p. 62). Hence, it is
important to have background information about the writer s own life story in order to grasp the
reason of characters attitude in the text. Symbols, dreams and conflicts have a vital role for the
writer because they are the messengers to the reader who has been in communication with the text.
The reader is also important as s/he is going to get the messages and reach the repressed feelings of
the author. In this respect analyzing a text... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

William Wordsworth s Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
The poem was written in the year 1802. It was first published in Poems in Two Volumes, in
1807. The very starting line of the poem I wandered lonely as a cloud informs the poet s
profound sentiments of being left alone. It was actually the death of his brother John that led him
to loneliness . We should remind the readers that this poem was not a result of imagination.
Dorothy, Wordsworth s sister provides us an explanation of the occasion which inspired
Wordsworth to produce this masterpiece:
When we were in the woods beyond Gowbarrow Park, we saw a few daffodils close to
waterside. Thus the poem is a result of actual visualization rather than imagery .
In English literature, Wordsworth and his friend, Samuel Taylor Coleridge,... Show more content on

Wordsworth may be at discomfort in human multitude but not amidst the objects (crowd) of
Nature. Nature permeates the entire poem. Phrases like a crowd, a host, continuous as the stars,

implications. The poet says: I wondered lonely as a cloud that floats on the high o er Wales and
hills. Daffodils, an everyday found flower has been portrayed in magical verses and blended with
transcendental romanticism. Even the daffodils outdid the sparkling waves in glee and left an
everlasting mark in the mind of the readers of this poem.

Environmental Issues of Coal Mining
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES OF COAL MINING
INTRODUCTION
Coal is the most abundant fuel resource in India. It is the prime source of energy and perhaps the
largest contributor to the industrial growth of the country. It is a crucial and enduring element in a
modern, balanced energy portfolio, providing a bridge to the future as an important low cost and
secure energy solution to sustainability challenges. Some important facts about coal industry in
India are as follows:
India is the third largest producer of coal in the world
Coal is one of the primary sources of energy
India has some of the largest reserves of coal in the world
Indian coal has high ash content (15 45%)and low calorific value

There is concern that this natural phenomenon is being altered by a greater build up of gases
caused by human activity.
This is known as the enhanced greenhouse effect. The combustion of coal, like that of other fossil
fuels, produces CO2, a gas that is linked to global warming through the greenhouse effect.
The combustion of coal produces gaseous emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrous
oxides (NOx) that are responsible for the production of acid rain and ground level ozone . Acid
rain occurs when SO2 and NOx gases react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen and other
chemicals to form acidic compounds. Ground level ozone (O3) is mainly responsible for smog
that forms a brown haze over cities. Ground level ozone is formed when NOx gases react with
other chemicals in the atmosphere and is enhanced by strong sunlight. Emissions of SO2 and NOx
are termed trans boundary air pollution because the environmental impacts from the production of
these gases are not restricted by geographical boundaries.
(II) Impact of Coal Mine Fires
A number of coal mines in the country are affected by fires leading to steady destruction of
precious energy resource. The reason for mine fires presumably involves the phenomenon of
spontaneous heating through two interrelated processes viz., the oxygen coal interaction or
oxidative process and

The team leaders projections show that the cost of starting the race under normal circumstances
would be $3,152,000 (see table 2), however, normal conditions also dictate that the project will
require 50 weeks to finish. As with any solid plan, the team leaders have also calculated crash
times and costs as backup options in case the project experiences delays, or in this circumstance
an imposed deadline; the start of the race 45 weeks from now. Analyzing crash times and costs
we see that if each activity were crashed the project could be finished in 42 weeks, however, the
budget would skyrocket to $4.952 million (see table 5). Therefore, the team will need to analyze
the project network and its critical path to determine which individual activities can be crashed

which activities should be crashed, Bjorn and his team first need to have a clear understanding

ground up. It was started in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad when he was 17 years old, from a shed on
the family farm. In the beginning, the company sold fish, Christmas magazines, and seeds to
eventually add pens, then furniture to its product list. In the beginning the company had used the
milk truck as part of its delivery system to get orders to the train station. In 1953 when the milk
truck changed it route, it was no longer available to get items to the train station. This motivated
Ingvar to invest in a nearby idle factory and convert it into a warehouse. By this time, with the help
of the free catalog which started back in 1949, the business was... Show more content on

IKEA had to start designing more of its furniture in house and found a manufacturer who would
produce IKEA designed furniture. In this process, the manufacturer was in Poland where they
found it is 50% cheaper than to manufacture in Sweden, allowing him to cut prices even more.
Here the furniture industry continued to evolve with new technology and cost savings. In 1958,
IKEA had opened its first store on site of the first warehouse in Almhult. This was done to
supplement the mail order business; it was to be a place where customers could come to see the
furniture set up. This went well; the business even started selling storage containers for car roofs
in order for customers to take home their purchases. Ingvar realized that Almhult was a good
drive for many of its customers so he decided to put in a restaurant so they could relax and
refuel. This was a hit and became an integral feature of all IKEA stores. Competitors argued that
IKEA products were low quality, which was quickly diminished when the furniture was tested for
quality by a Swedish design laboratory. The laboratory not only stated that IKEA s quality was
good, but maybe better than that of other Swedish furniture manufacturers with prices much lower.
Due to this publicity, sales took off, being as it was now acceptable in middle class households.

The Weatherman, an organization that is now known as the Weather Underground, was
organized in 1969 as a faction of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) that broke with
Progressive Labor. They had a specific goal which was to create a clandestine revolutionary
party for the overthrow of the U.S. government. The attempts to achieve this was having
campaigns of bombings on government buildings through the 1970 s and then it was taking part
in actions of Timothy Leary s jailbreak. Leary has been described as the most dangerous man in

Former Underground member Kathy Boudin and her soon to be husband, David Gilbert, were
accomplices in the robbery of a Brinks armored car in Nyack, New York. In the course of that
heist, one Brinks guard and two Nyack police officers were murdered. Also involved in the
robbery was Judith Clark, who had served a prison term for her participation in the Days of
Rage. Boudin hired attorney Leonard Weinglass, a law partner of her father, to defend her in the
case. Weinglass arranged for a plea bargain whereby Boudin pled guilty to one count of felony
murder and robbery, in exchange for a prison sentence of twenty years to life. She was paroled in
2003, however, over strong opposition from New York State police. Gilbert remains in New York s
Attica State Prison, having refused to bargain ( Weathermen ). Also on this year Kathy Boudin
resurfaces to participate in an armed robbery in Nanuet, New York through Weather Underground.

The American Indian Culture
One aspect to be respected and understood, about American Indians, is their history and culture
dates back much farther than Americans in US history. Consequently, the relationship developed
between American Indians and the United States is as unique as it is complicated. This unique
relationship started because the American Indians were the first faces seen by fresh colonials from
Europe. Despite this fact, the American Indians have faced cultural appropriation on a level that
cannot be compared to any other ethnic group or minority. Any American who has been through
kindergarten can associate Indians and Pilgrims with Thanksgiving, but how many of those
Americans know of the Battle of Little Bighorn or the Alcatraz Proclamation? It is this lack of
awareness that has created continued injustice allowing American Indian culture to be exploited.
For the only culture native to this country to be so trivially appropriated, for centuries, is
disgraceful. While many minorities faced poor living conditions through the 1970 s, American
Indians felt their conditions were the worst. As a result, the Indians of All Tribes would reclaim
Alcatraz Island by right of discovery. Using the standards set in treaties by white men for previous
Native generations, the Indians of All Tribes determined Alcatraz would be the ideal location for a
settlement. By the white man s standards, in order for a location to be appropriate for Native
settlement it must be isolated from modern facilities,

The, Feral Beast Who Lives Of A Hill
Sidehill Gallagher feral beast who lives in a hill, or a slur used against Irish in 1930 s New
York? Either way, what happends when a Gallagher starts to date the Dean s daughter? My
Uncle John, my father s older brother, and my Aunt Thellen have been married together for
thirty five coming up on thirty six years. However, they were not always together and they did
not always know one another. When my Uncle first met his wife it was their freshman year of
college. They were on a retreat in a state park, it was just a small group over a weekend. They
knew who each other was, but other than their first impressions they were strangers. His first
impression of her was that she was a very pretty and smart girl. Thel s first impression of John...

Thel liked him because, when John talked to you he talked to you, he asked me what I felt and

a barn, the music playing was 70s stuff ya know...romantic stuff. John felt at peace with the world
that night dancing with Thel. He said he was, so delirious I could fall asleep on my feet, just
wrapped up in her arms. That s when he had the first realization that he not only liked her, but

Most Powerful Weapon Ever Created By Austin Perkins
Austin Perkins Ever since man has come into existence we have killed with rocks, spears, clubs,
knifes, swords, arrows, cannons, guns and, unfortunately, bombs. In 2077 man unleashed the full
force of the most powerful weapon ever created, a hydrogen bomb nicknamed the Tsar Bomba, a
hydrogen bomb with 50 megatons of explosive power. 1 megaton is equal to a million tons of
TNT; the Little Boythat was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was only a mere .02. The
fallout of such a weapon nearly destroyed the world we lived in, but didn t end it. In the
beginning, thousands were able to survive by relocating to underground shelters called vaults.
When they finally came out, there was nothing but the apocalyptic wastes for them to see.
Buildings were demolished, the landscape was scorched, the water was undrinkable, and the
creatures were unholy. When Hell s gates opened there was one vault, however, that kept its
gates closed. Vault 101 kept its giant metal door closed and never let anyone in or out. Inside
were the inhabitants who were all looked over by an Overseer, who could be a mayor in some
vaults or a god in others. They control everything in the vaults from what foods you eat to what
you will do in the future. Everyone knows each other in a vault and everyone has a role to play,
whether that role is a doctor or a tattoo artist. The one thing they all have in common is that they
were born in the vault, lived in the vault, and eventually will die in the vault. That

Washington Dc Vs Riyadh Research Paper
Have you ever thought about the similarities and differences between to different cities from two
different countries? Some countries are similar in many traditions. Also, you can find major
tradition differences between two different countries. A Capital is usually the biggest city in a
country. I have been to Washington D.C and Al Riyadh, they both are cities from two different
countries which are the United Statesand Saudi Arabia. we can compare and contrast both cities in
terms of food, weather, and festivals.
To begin with the similarity, DC and Al Riyadh are both big capital cities because as I mentioned
above usually a capital is the big city in the country. You can find in the both cities the government
and high authority branches ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Black Friday is a day that comes after thanksgiving in U.S and this day you can find huge
discounts that the stores provide for the costumers, and the New Year s eve is the first day of
the year all the countries have a vacation on this day and most of the people celebrate with their
friends family and enjoy watching fireworks. In Riyadh there are only two special festivals, Eid
Al Fitter which comes after Ramadan all Muslims celebrate this special holiday because it is in
their religion, the wear new clothes and go to the mosque to pray in the morning and after that
they visit their friends and families and go back home to wait for an guests to come. Eid Al Adha,
is the second special holiday and it comes in the 10th day of Eid Al Haj and we sacrifice a sheep
and volunteer to poor people meat.
To sum up, each capital has similar and different traditions. There is a huge difference between
these two capitals D.C and Al Riyadh more than the similarities. However, capital cities have a
prominent place in the countries. I have been to both capitals and I think D.C has most spectacular
places, and incredible nature. Finally, there is many places to visit and have many activities to

A Theory of Justice Presented by John Rawls Essays
In A Theory of Justice John Rawls presents his argument for justice and inequality. Rawls
theorizes that in the original position, a hypothetical state where people reason without bias,
they would agree to live in a society based on two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 4). These
two principles of justice are named the first and second principles. The first is the equal rights
and liberties principle. The second is a combination of the difference principle and the fair
equality of opportunity principle, or FEOP (Rawls 1971, 53). Rawls argues that inequality will
always be inevitable in any society (Rawls 1971, 7). For example, there will always be a varied
distribution of social and economic advantages. Some people will be wealthier than... Show more

Furthermore, they have no concept of social standing or economic standing. The individuals are
just capable of reasoning and possess the goal of creating a just society (Rawls 1971, 17). The
purpose of the veil is to allow those in the original position to agree on rules pertaining to their own
mutual interests. Rawls thinks that behind the veil of ignorance, free of bias with rational
thought, the individuals would agree to a society governed by his two principles of justice
(Rawls 1971, 53). Individuals would agree to these principles because it would be the only way
to ensure a fair initial status quo in society (Rawls 1971, 53). This is important because it allows
for justified inequalities later that will be regulated instead of unjust inequalities. No one would
want to make things unequal from the start because they have no way of knowing their actual
place in society behind the veil (Rawls 1971, 11). For example, if someone suggested that all
UCR students get free tuition at the cost of students at other universities footing the bill, it
would be within the individuals best interest to disagree because he has no way of knowing if he
is a UCR student in the society or one of the other university students that now have to pay more.
The idea of the original position is that a just society would be fair and equal, and individuals
behind the veil of ignorance would agree on Rawls two principles of justice to make it so. Rawls s
first principle

The No Child Left Behind ( Nclb ) Act Launching America s...
In 2001, President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act launching
America s education system into an era of standardized testing as a method of holding states and
schools accountable for student achievement. With this recent surge of high stakes standardized
testing, teachers are held to increasingly higher expectations of quality instruction and meeting
these standards. However, schools are unprepared in achieving the goals of NCLB resulting in years
of struggle to improve student success in testing due to flaws in the traditional grading system.
Current schools and teachers lack proper grading practices that are inadequate of accurately
representing student achievement. With the increased focus on standards, it is imperative that
schools begin to implement an effective grading system so that all students and parents are
provided accurate feedback of students abilities.
There are myriad unforeseen consequences when schools use the traditional grading system. For
the past century, traditional grading practices and policies that have contributed to much of the
failure of student achievement. The use of the traditional grading system has slowly led to the
major issue of grade inflation. Most often students grade tend to be inflated with the help of non
academic factors such as homework, participation and student effort. High school teachers tend
include effort as part of the grade, giving high grades to students who work in class despite whether

Genetic screening has no doubt have been the one of the most controversial issue in the branch of
medicine.
The new issue has recently triggered the on going debate: the dilemma of whether the Government
should allow the Genetic screening of all 16 year old girls for mutation in specific gene called the

Factor V Leiden is a single nucleotide substitution Guanine to Adenine at nucleotide 1691 which is
responsible for the single amino acid replacement (Arg506Gln).
Factor V Leiden is inactivated by the protein C and S nearly 10 times slower than the normal Factor
V, resulting in increased clotting factor that is why it is commonly called APC Resistance.
Factor V Leiden is the most common genetic cause of venous thrombosis, which leads to deadly
pulmonary embolism when the part of the clot breaks away to the pulmonary artery. It is involved
in 20 40% of cases and is present in 3% of the general population.
The other major genetic causes of venous thrombosis (deficiencies of protein C and S) together
account for only 5 10% of cases.
Factor V Leiden increases the risk of venous thrombosis 3 8 times for heterozygous (one bad gene
inherited) and substantially more, 30 140 times for homozygous (two bad gene inherited)
individuals.
2% of the general population was found to be heterozygous.
Risk is increased still further in situations such as pregnancy, oral contraceptive use, estrogen
therapy, malignancy, diabetes mellitus, immobilization, surgery, trauma, high blood pressure,
obesity, smoking or long time travel (commonly called economy class syndrome). In these cases
risk of clotting can increase dramatically.
Can Factor V Leiden be inherited?

  • 2. Vertigo And Falls Case Study Complaint Vertigo and falls. History Patient is an 81 year old right handed white male who presents with his wife for evaluation of dizziness . He states that he has had this for two years, at least. He notes that it occurs mostly when he stands up, at which point he will feel like he is going to fall. He describes this as an actual head spinning, so it is a true vertigo. It is not merely lightheadedness. He does note that if he lies flat on his back in bed, he does not have the vertigo, but if he rolls over onto either side, he will develop a spinning sensation. It is aborted by rolling back onto his back. He notes that if he gets up quickly at night to go to the bathroom, he will have marked problems with balance. He usually sits on the edge of the bed and moves his arms and legs until he feels that the vertigo has gone away, at which point, he can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He does have a history of skull fracture 60 years ago due to a motor vehicle accident, at which point, he was in a coma for 18 days. He has amnesia for most of that time. Cuba Is A Unique Nation In Which It’S Culture Has Been Cuba is a unique nation in which it s culture has been defined as a result of incorporating different customs from various nations over time. Beginning in the 1500s, the Spanish would be the first migrants to inhabit the island. Not only did the Spanish bring their customs along with them, but fifteen years after their arrival they also brought African slaves onto the island. Even through the hardships of slavery and oppression, the African s maintained practices and preserved aspects of their culture that were eventually incorporated into Cuban culture as a whole. The young nation also saw various nations and ethnicities, such as Haitians and Americans as time progressed. Like their migrant predecessors, these individuals would also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the remainder of Indians that were still alive in hiding or under Spanish rule as slaves, the Spaniards were able to freely impose their culture, eradicating that of the Indians. After the Indian slave population diminished, the Spanish brought in African slaves to fill the gaps in the work force. However, like their oppressed predecessors, the slaves eventually rebelled too. With slavery falling out of fashion across the globe in the late 1800s, Carlos Cespedes, a sugar planter in Cuba followed suit and freed his slaves in 1868 to help start and fight in a rebellion against the Spanish crown (Class Notes, 2/21/17). The interesting concept explored in this rebellion concerns the notion of African slaves and local Cuban s working together. Two parties with different ethnic backgrounds came together to fight the dictatorial rulers of the country. Through this union and expression of transculturation as both backgrounds believed in the ideology of equal rights, the conflict eventually grew in size and became known as the Ten Year s War. Although the Spanish regained control after the war s end, it signalled a shift in ideology on the island away from the Spanish crown, and eventually lead to the abolition of slavery and ultimately independence from Spain. Ethnic Conflict and Tension The early Christian Church in Spanish controlled Cuba was one of the first groups to call for the abolition of slavery; however, they approached the concept prior to Cespedes and from a ... Different Methods Of Qualitative Research This essay will look at the qualitative approaches to research and look into more detail at the main traditions and theoretical approaches to qualitative research, the main research methods associated with qualitative research; and the main criticisms that are frequently levelled at qualitative research. There are many different definitions of qualitative research; one definition that defines it well is; a means for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. The process of research involves emerging questions and procedures, data typically collected in the participant s setting. (Creswell, J. 2009) There are many different methods of qualitative research and the approaches used include narrative, phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography and case study. The narrative approach retells a person s story across time; it explores what the story means and the lessons to be learnt from it. The goal of phenomenological research is to describe participants experiences in a specific context and understand a phenomenon. Grounded theory research looks at a process, an action or an interaction with the goal of developing a theory. The researcher attempts to derive a general, abstract theory of a process, action, or interaction grounded in the views of participants in a study. This process involves using multiple stages of data collection and the refinement and interrelationship of categories of information (Strauss Corbin, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Impact Of Labor Force In The 21st Century There is a great change going on in employment trend and labor force in the U.S. in 21st century because of aging, diversity immigrants and few other factors and it s a dramatic change, from 1950 to 2050. This massive demographic change has an impact on the number of people working or people looking for work. In the beginning of 21st centurythe demand for laborforce has increased which is one of the main source for growth and economic progress. Growth rate in population and labor force has changed the trend in employment today compare to 1950. Today more older people are working, its more diversified and more women are involved at workplace. There are going to be significant changes in coming years compare to past 50 years. For example, labor growth rate will be less than what we had in past 50 years. As per the Mitra Toossi s article A century of change: the U.S. labor force, 1950 2015 , The high growth rate of civilian labor force in the past 50 years will be replaced by much lower growth rates in the next 50 years . The main reason to this slowdown in growth of the labor force is high tech innovation which is reducing the demand of traditional labor force. Another demographic change in the employment trend is the change in gender structure. We have seen more number of women at workplace compare past 50 years and their number at work place are increasing very fast. This change came because of equal rights to women at workplace plus they are more involved with their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Age-Related Macular Degeneration Research Paper Regenerative Medicine: Utilizing stem cells for the treatment of Age related Macular Degeneration Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness for people 60 years of age and older in the developed world. Vision loss is caused by the destruction of the cone photoreceptors, located in the macula, that are responsible for color/central vision. The underlying cause of AMD is the loss of the monolayer of pigmented epithelial cells located just below the photoreceptors, known as the retinal pigmentum epithelium (RPE). The main role of the RPE is to maintain the function of the photoreceptor layer by secreting nutrients, absorbing stray light, and recycling debris used during the visual cycle. As a person ages the efficiency of the RPE layer is diminished causing a build up of toxic by products. These toxic build ups, known as drusens, result in the separation and death of the photoreceptor and RPE layers. AMD is speculated to result from as many as 20 different genetic mutations and as a result there is no known cure for the disease (CITE), but recent advances in stem cell therapy is a hopeful step in the right direction.... The biggest distinction between them is their relative abilities to produce different tissues in the body, known as potency. • 9. Due Process Due Process Crystal Groff Strayer University Professor Freeman Abstract We all wonder what the words life, liberty, and property derived from. In this paper I will be explaining what due process is and how it relates to life, liberty, and property. I will also explain where due process came from and what 2 amendments relate to due process. Before we start though I would like you to know that due process is there to protect the defendant under proving guilty. Define due process and its origin? Due process refers to a set of established legal principles, derived from the Constitution, that seek to protect the rights if citizens. It is done to insure that the government treats all the individuals properly and does not abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Substantive refers to the specific rights being denied, even if the process is deemed fair. Actions are taken by the state in a process that would be considered fair, but could still be challenged on the basis that it improperly denies a right. Substantive is which includes all your basic amendment rights. An example could be Griswold vs. Connecticut (1995). Connecticut law made it illegal for doctors to dispense birth control to their patients. The court ruled that the law violated the Constitution not because it was passed or applied improperly, but because it denied that patients their right to privacy. Another example could be the law that Pennsylvania has that everyone that wants to vote will need to show a valid ID to prove that no laws are being broken. This applies because it goes against a person right to speech and freedom. One good example I like to think due process came from was from the Bible on the Garden of Eden, because God did not immediately punish them. The first thing that God did was ask Where art thou Adam? Thereby giving him notice. God gave him a chance to be heard by asking Didn t thou eat the forbidden fruit (The Beginning, 2007)? In my options this in when due process came into affects; no one would like to relate due process to the Garden of Eden time. References Gonzales, Kristin. (2012). What is Due Process? • 10. National Symbols Of Guatemala And Its Effect On The... corn, bananas, coffee, beans, and chickens (The World Fact book, Economy). In the past few years Guatemala is experiencing drought and it is affecting the country s farming capabilities. Recent statistics gathered by VoaNews estimate about 900,000 individuals are troubled by this issue. Like many matters, this has caused a chain reaction resulting in an increase of unemployment. Although a challenge, I envision a possible business opportunity to alter this effect. A strategy that came into mind was a tool utilized to decrease the amount of water irrigated. There is currently a watering system used for a similar purpose called the Tree T Pee (Tree T Pee Site). It would be a great approach to invest and incorporate a modification that can be used in lands abroad like Guatemala. It could also increase the employment rate and create new jobs. Despite the downfalls, Guatemala continues to be well known for its beauty and culture that comes from the indigenous people. For example, one of the most important national symbols in Guatemala is the Quetzal. Studies (Standford University, Para. 6) based on the national bird stated that the Mayan people viewed this bird as a symbol of love, light, and happiness. Another great symbol is Guatemala s national hero (Stanford University site, para. 7). The national hero is Quiche Tecun Uman and he is well known for his heroic actions facing the Spanish conquistadors in battle dating back in 1534. He fought for his sovereignty and for his ... He wondered if God had put him on his earth was to be worked in the furnaces. Once I used to ask myself, Is this what the good God put me on earth for, to work my life away in Carnegie s blast furnaces, to live and die in Braddock s alleys? I couldn t believe it. Now I know that God had nothing to do with it. Chance rules the world (Bell, 197). Mike felt everyone should lovethe job they work in and shouldn t feel as if they re not appreciated. I don t mind work. But a man should be allowed to love his work and take pride in it (Bell, 196). The third generation of the family seemed to be the strongest willed. Mike and Mary s son, Dobie, did everything George wouldn t do and was against not standing up to anyone. He created the birth of labor unionism during his time working at the steel mills. It was against the law to join this labor unionism act. Many of the mills were go into protests about how they were getting treating working at the mills and they weren t afraid to speak their mind. This interest Dobie that something needed to be done and he started to met with lawyers and investigators. Eventually he was able to get the steel corporation to sign a contract to end the hardships with the steel mills. The steel corporation signed a contract with the S.W.O.C. and the most important job ever undertaken by organized labor in America ended with victory for the union (Bell, ... • 12. The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc ) This week saw the Fair Work Commission (FWC) bring down an adjustment to Penalty rates in Australia for some Retail and Hospitality Workers. If you read the newspapers, listen to the radio, and watch TV coverage it comes across as the greatest betrayal of the working man (or woman) since the great Depression. In this article I ll give my view on this. Disclaimer: I own a couple of Small Business s which (potentially) benefit from this decision. I have looked after the HR department of a larger ASX listed company in the past and have some reasonable HR experience. I also really think retail shops should be closed on a Sunday so people can do other (more sociable, community and family friendly) activities rather than trudging around shops ... Sunday rates remained at 175% for casuals in the hospitality industry, and there was no cut for level two and three employees in the fast food award. The commission cut public holiday rates in the hospitality and retail awards except for clubs from 250% to 225% for full time and part time employees. The casuals rate will be 250%. Interestingly the FWC sis not adjust the penalty rates for the Award that governs restaurants. The Summary of the FWC ruling can be found here: https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/sites /awardsmodernfouryr/2017fwcfb1001 summary.pdf Big Business Response Unsurprisingly the employer groups have come out and stated that this would lead to an increase in employment. Oh, and you might want to decide quickly because the people on the other boat might not be so noble. This is The Joker s way of giving the passengers an ultimatum. Live and kill, or be killed. His experiment furthers the effect of his actions as an anarchist on the people of Gotham, as the passengers are left in shock and have to make a life or death decision in such a small amount of time. The lack of hesitation in his relaxed voice makes it clear to the audience that this was a well rehearsed and planned announcement. He had organised this and was then ready to begin to carry out his experiment, in which he expected at least one boat full of people to die as a result. This showed the power and control he had as Gotham s villain because in just one statement he was able to terrorise people and leave them with such as difficult decision to make. All scenarios he had implied to the passengers resulted in at least one ferry being blown up, while he would remain unaffected by the outcome. As well as creating a feeling of fear and suspense for the audience, who are watching the scene play out to discover the outcome, it also makes the viewer question: What is the right and wrong decision to make? Crimes are classified by three different categories, Infractions, Misdemeanors, and Felonies but then crimes are broken down more within each of these categories and the sentences for these can range from a fine to the death penalty. Each state has its own set of laws for which they follow for all crimes committed and what the sentences or fines should be given for the crimes in question and if they cannot decide how it should be ruled over then they can look to past cases that had set precedent for those crimes and see the old ruling and determine from there. Symbols are anything with significance and value shared by the people in a culture. A symbolmost countries value is their national flag. Crime And Punishment Conservatism The novel Crime and Punishment was written during a time when science based ideas about civilization and evolution were beginning to replace religious or mystical ideas. Many people, under the guise of being intellectuals, subscribed to these theories and promoted them because the theories made them seem superior to their fellow men. Author Fyodor Dostoevsky incorporated many of these theories into the perspectives of the characters in his novel, suggesting that despite their presentation as new or revolutionary, they were simply re workings of older ideas re fitted for the modern era. Dostoevsky uses Raskolnikov s idea about extraordinary people and Lebezyatnikov s idea about communes to criticize Social Darwinismand aspects of Radicalism respectively. According to this theory of the gaze, the male protagonist in a film is generally used as for the presumably male viewer to project his own desire of control over the female image. Through the onscreen male s gaze, the woman s image may be appropriated and the viewer may have the illusion of control over the woman. In these films, then, the woman, though she is seemingly in control of her own body and image through her character in the film, is still ideologically subjected to male control. • 34. The Little Prince Literary Criticism Three aspects are important while analyzing a text according to Psychoanalytical Criticism. These are the author, characters and the reader. Psychoanalytic critics handle the text like analyzing the author s own inner world as Ann B. Dobie stated her book Theory into Practice, An Introduction to Literary Criticism: They see work as an expression of the writer s unconscious mind, an artifact that can be used to psychoanalyze the writer, producing psycho biography. (2015, p. 62). Hence, it is important to have background information about the writer s own life story in order to grasp the reason of characters attitude in the text. Symbols, dreams and conflicts have a vital role for the writer because they are the messengers to the reader who has been in communication with the text. • 35. William Wordsworth s Analysis Of I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud The poem was written in the year 1802. It was first published in Poems in Two Volumes, in 1807. The very starting line of the poem I wandered lonely as a cloud informs the poet s profound sentiments of being left alone. It was actually the death of his brother John that led him to loneliness . We should remind the readers that this poem was not a result of imagination. Dorothy, Wordsworth s sister provides us an explanation of the occasion which inspired Wordsworth to produce this masterpiece: When we were in the woods beyond Gowbarrow Park, we saw a few daffodils close to waterside. Thus the poem is a result of actual visualization rather than imagery . In English literature, Wordsworth and his friend, Samuel Taylor Coleridge,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is known as the enhanced greenhouse effect. The combustion of coal, like that of other fossil fuels, produces CO2, a gas that is linked to global warming through the greenhouse effect. The combustion of coal produces gaseous emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrous oxides (NOx) that are responsible for the production of acid rain and ground level ozone . Acid rain occurs when SO2 and NOx gases react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form acidic compounds. Ground level ozone (O3) is mainly responsible for smog that forms a brown haze over cities. Ground level ozone is formed when NOx gases react with other chemicals in the atmosphere and is enhanced by strong sunlight. Emissions of SO2 and NOx are termed trans boundary air pollution because the environmental impacts from the production of these gases are not restricted by geographical boundaries. The team leaders projections show that the cost of starting the race under normal circumstances would be $3,152,000 (see table 2), however, normal conditions also dictate that the project will require 50 weeks to finish. As with any solid plan, the team leaders have also calculated crash times and costs as backup options in case the project experiences delays, or in this circumstance an imposed deadline; the start of the race 45 weeks from now. Analyzing crash times and costs we see that if each activity were crashed the project could be finished in 42 weeks, however, the budget would skyrocket to $4.952 million (see table 5). Therefore, the team will need to analyze the project network and its critical path to determine which individual activities can be crashed while maintaining the integrity of the budget. Plan to Reduce Project Duration Before deciding which activities should be crashed, Bjorn and his team first need to have a clear understanding of the project s priorities. To do this the team has first defined the project s scope and decided to develop a project priority matrix. Competitors argued that IKEA products were low quality, which was quickly diminished when the furniture was tested for quality by a Swedish design laboratory. Consequently, the relationship developed between American Indians and the United States is as unique as it is complicated. This unique relationship started because the American Indians were the first faces seen by fresh colonials from Europe. Despite this fact, the American Indians have faced cultural appropriation on a level that cannot be compared to any other ethnic group or minority. Any American who has been through kindergarten can associate Indians and Pilgrims with Thanksgiving, but how many of those Americans know of the Battle of Little Bighorn or the Alcatraz Proclamation? It is this lack of awareness that has created continued injustice allowing American Indian culture to be exploited. For the only culture native to this country to be so trivially appropriated, for centuries, is disgraceful. While many minorities faced poor living conditions through the 1970 s, American Indians felt their conditions were the worst. Rawls theorizes that in the original position, a hypothetical state where people reason without bias, they would agree to live in a society based on two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 4). These two principles of justice are named the first and second principles. The first is the equal rights and liberties principle. The second is a combination of the difference principle and the fair equality of opportunity principle, or FEOP (Rawls 1971, 53). Rawls thinks that behind the veil of ignorance, free of bias with rational thought, the individuals would agree to a society governed by his two principles of justice (Rawls 1971, 53). Individuals would agree to these principles because it would be the only way to ensure a fair initial status quo in society (Rawls 1971, 53). This is important because it allows for justified inequalities later that will be regulated instead of unjust inequalities. No one would want to make things unequal from the start because they have no way of knowing their actual place in society behind the veil (Rawls 1971, 11). For example, if someone suggested that all UCR students get free tuition at the cost of students at other universities footing the bill, it would be within the individuals best interest to disagree because he has no way of knowing if he is a UCR student in the society or one of the other university students that now have to pay more. Factor V Leiden is inactivated by the protein C and S nearly 10 times slower than the normal Factor V, resulting in increased clotting factor that is why it is commonly called APC Resistance. Factor V Leiden is the most common genetic cause of venous thrombosis, which leads to deadly pulmonary embolism when the part of the clot breaks away to the pulmonary artery. It is involved in 20 40% of cases and is present in 3% of the general population. The other major genetic causes of venous thrombosis (deficiencies of protein C and S) together account for only 5 10% of cases. Factor V Leiden increases the risk of venous thrombosis 3 8 times for heterozygous (one bad gene inherited) and substantially more, 30 140 times for homozygous (two bad gene inherited) individuals. 2% of the general population was found to be heterozygous.
