The Diction Of A Third Person Narrative
In this form, the narrator has used a greater amount of diction one might use to talk to themselves, in a
sort of internal monologue. The validity of these first person structures as representations of fiction are
questioned by Martin, he feels that the type of structure implicitly claims it is about the real world
(142). Structures of narration that utilize the third person tend to avoid such claims of absolute truth.
Grammar continues with the introduction of representations of consciousness that employ a third
person voice. The third person narrator does not have the same sense of physicality and personhood
that a first person narrator would have. Instead, the narrator takes the role of an observer who was
little to no effect on

The Pros And Cons Of Self Censorship
In today s society, people no longer communicate with each other on a respectful level. Although
everyone has their own opinion, this generation does not take other people s opinions into perspective.
There are very few leaders who are setting examples for their peers. They are constantly bashing their
objectors for not having the same opinions and ideas that they think are competent. This causes this
generation to self censor themselves because they do not want to receive negative backlash on their
opinions and ideas. Self censorship is exercising control over what one has to say and how he or she
may act in order to avoid castigation (English Oxford Living Dictionaries). It also obstructs creativity
and prevents individuals from forming their own opinions and ideas.
Self censorship prevents this generation from exploring the depths of creativity and forces people to
hold back opinions that may be bottled up on the inside. It can affect everyone. Adults often have
business ideas that they think can impact our younger generation and that generation to come, but
because of the fear of co workers disagreeing with them, they may contradict their original thought.
This precludes their talents from advancing on to the next level of success (OxBow School). Students
sometimes can have different opinions than their teachers, but out of fear of getting in trouble, they
never vocalize their opinions. This can at times affect the relationship between the teachers and their
students

Haiti Voodoo Culture
Every religion is different, whether its origin is different or they have different beliefs. Voodoo is the
most common religion of Haiti. Most people misconceive the Voodoo religion as they do not know
much about their beliefs, traditions and holidays. It is a religion most known for their traditional
symbol, Voodoo dolls. Voodoo, a widely practiced religion in Haiti, is one of the most misunderstood
religions that have several traditional symbols, beliefs and rituals. Voodoo is one of the religions of
Haiti, practiced by decendants of African ethnic groups. Voodoo is one of the oldest known religions
with over fifty million followers. The word Voodoo comes from the word vodun which means spirit or
deity in the Fon language of Dahomey. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this religion, their main worships are God and many Loas. A Loa is a God and a good spirit in the
Voodoo religion. Aside from believing in the many Loas, Voodoo is mainly a monotheist religion.
Voodooists also believe in reincarnation. To them, there is no good or bad place to go after someone
passes away. This is because they believe that they will live another life. A person s life influences
what will happen to them in their next live. For example, if someone has spent their life as a good and
honest person, they will ascend to Loa and have the opportunity and power to shape the world. Where,
if someone lived a misbehaved life, the person would live a new cycle of life and be given every
opportunity to change the outcome of what will happen to them after death. If their angry life repeats
itself, they will be physically or spiritually punished by Loa. Voodoo Loas are to be strictly broken
down into two groups, Rada Loas and Petro Loas. The Rada Loas are considered to be the good Loas
and serve creation, socialization, and life. The Petro Loas are considered to be a group of demons who
are responsible for harmful sorcery. In some cases, Voodooists believe that a Loa could be considered
both Rada and Petro, but they are usually convinced otherwise. A Voodoo Loa is a God in which
Voodooists believe in as well as an important symbol in the

Jane Austen s Novel And The World Of Books
Novels are a unique form of writing that brings about a new style in the world of books. Novel by its
definition is a new kind different from anything ever before. These books range from the greats to the
recently printed because novels only have to be new for when they came out. So for instance Pride and
Prejudice was novel when it came out in 1813 just like how Mrs. Dalloway was novel when it came
out in 1925. Although these novels seem to be fiction, if not realistic fiction, it is common to wonder
how the authors came up with these ideas for their books. In actuality most authors take experiences
that they had from their lives and incorporated them into the story. Often after researching an author
one can see that there are many parallels between their novel and their actual life. Some aspects can be
from other situations outside of ones personal life, but ultimately authors create much of their stories
based off of life experiences and can be seen in Housekeeping, The Passion, and Thomas and Beulah.
Growing up in Sandpoint Idaho was the first influence that Marilynne Robinson had when it comes to
writing her stories. In this instance it has influenced her in her writing of Housekeeping to have a more
western and Midwestern feel to there locations. On top of that she includes many rural factors into her
stories other than Housekeeping referencing her life growing up in rural Idaho. One of the more
notable factors in this comparison in Housekeeping is the town of

Effects of Coloniztionon First Nations
1. Discuss your understanding of historic and contemporary colonization, how it continues to affect
First Nations, Metis, and or Inuit peoples today and how it may be reflected in your proposed specific
area of social work practice.
To begin with, colonization began when first contact was made between Indigenous peoples of
Canada and Europeans. At first the settlers were humble to Indigenous peoples and learnt how to
survive the diverse land of what is known as Canada. As settlers began getting established in Canada,
the land began getting taken over by Europeans. The signing of treaties was a mechanism used to
divide and conquer the lands from Indigenous peoples. Indian reserves were created to separate
different tribes and land was claimed for natives to live on. According to ..... the land given was not
very healthy and did not accommodate the way first nation peoples lived. Next, the Indian Act was
established in hopes to absorb indianess and in hopes would expire therefore eliminating the existence
of indianess .
In addition to the Indian Act came another mechanism called residential schools. According to
Frideres (2011) residential schools were an educational institution established by the Canadian
government and the Roman Catholic missionaries for the purpose of forcing native people to abandon
their culture and adopt a more superior way of living. The first residential school was established in
1874, after which the number of these schools rapidly spread all

Title
Wild horses and burros are starving in the ten western states consisting of Arizona, California,
Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming. The Bureau of Land
Management or BLM is a national government agency that manages, protects, and controls the wild
horse and burro population under the 1971 Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act. This law
authorizes the BLM to regulate the population of horses and burros to sustain a healthy environment
for the land and the animals. The wild horses and burros are found in herd management areas across
the ten western states. The estimated total wild horses and burros in California are 8,316 with the

As of March 1, 2016, the BLM estimated a total amount of 67,027 wild horses and burros in all of the
western states. The BLM has recommended that the maximum population that the land can sustain is
26,715 (Gorey and Lutterman 1). The BLM must find ways to control the population because of the
crowding. According to Wild Horse Education Population control is a phrase used to describe the
methods that are utilized by the BLM to achieve what they term as Appropriate Management Level, or
AML ( Population Control 1). Appropriate management level is the amount of horses and burros that
can thrive in balance with other public land resources and uses. If left uncontrolled, Mother Nature
would regulate the population by disease, dehydration, and starvation. The population of the horses
would increase causing food to become scarce and the horses to starve. Not controlling the population
would be inhumane. The horses would suffer from starvation, causing a slow death. Private ranchers
obtain permits for their cattle to graze on BLM land which further affects the problem of scarcity of
food and water for all animals. The wild horse and burro population should be controlled using
humane methods

Comparing The Parthenon To The Pantheon
The Parthenon is an Ancient Greek building sitting on the acropolis of Athens. To compare it to the
Pantheon is quite a feat, but they don t have as many similarities as one would imagine. The Parthenon
of Ancient Greece serves as a temple, but it also had another purpose. The Pantheon served as a
monument and temple, to dedicate not only to the emperor of Rome but the gods and the Christian god
later on. The Parthenon sits at the peak of the Athenian acropolis and was certainly a symbol of
Athenian might. It represented not only the democracy of Athens, but especially the imperial prowess
of the short lived Athenian Empire. It was initially a temple devoted to the gods, built by Pericles and
his ambitious building program. The building, although it made the acropolis much more grandeur
than the acropolis burnt down by the Persians years earlier, represented something much more than
just spirituality it had a function. It was to hold the treasury of the Delian League, the league that was
created, which Athens led, to thwart the Persian threat. However, overtime the Delian League became

It was intended to be a temple that was perhaps dedicated to Mars, the god of war Agrippa had just
beaten Mark Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium, which had won Octavian the Roman
Empire and the war of the Second Triumvirate. ( Pantheon , 2015) It has been remolded over the
years, by Emperor Hadrian and subsequent regimes, but its purpose was still a religious temple. It has
an open rotunda with rounded walls and statues of the gods on the perimeter. This has a grandeur
interior, but the exterior isn t much to look at, which contrast much with the Parthenon. Because the
building was located within the crowded metropolis of Rome, the exterior probably wasn t as

Bulimia Nervosa: Argument Although bulimia nervosa can be treated in multiple fashions, there is a
specific treatment that is proven to be the most effective in not only bulimia nervosa, but also other
anxiety related disorders. This effective treatment is an specific form of short term psychotherapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is productive in both reducing the amount of times one may purge in a
day and diminishing the entire disorder altogether; it is a diverse set of problem specific interventions.

Unlike interpersonal psychotherapy, with the use of medication, CBT attains several forms of
intervention and models that can be used for certain situations. These forms are tailored not only to the
affected patient but also toward the patient s family. There is therapy for the perfect, overprotective,
and chaotic family. These forms all have specifics that set their therapeutic sessions apart, but are
similar in that they all begin with a technique called joining. Joining is basically an establishment of
alliance between the therapist and the family (Killian). Therapists are advised to discover how the
family members feel toward the problem in this situation. A way of ensuring family involvement
would be to set specific guidelines about the affect patient s behavior and the family s reactions
toward the behavior. For example, a therapist may initiate a plan in which the patient must be
responsible for replacing the family food in which he/she binges on. This activity will enhance the
removal of the rest of the family to be in constant fear for the patient; it will also allow the patient to
begin to regain control of one aspect of his/her life. Common goals within this type of family include
regulation of emotional availability between the parent(s) and the bulimic patient, facilitation of direct
communication, and negotiation of conflict and its resolution (Killian). Besides interventions, there
are also models that can be used to deal

Similarities Between It s A Wonderful Life And Bartleby...
In It s a Wonderful Life and Bartleby, The Scrivener, Capra and Melville illustrate the responsibility
that humans extend to fellow human beings, what they owe one another and why they think so. Both
authors works include characters that use ethics to determine what they owe people based on ethical
value. However, this process is not one that occurs in isolation; Capra and Melville s settings affect
their characters ability to judge ethical value. Through George and Clarence s journey, Capra shows
the transition from Bedford Falls to Pottersville and back to Bedford Falls, and how these changes
contribute to the characters perceived ethics. The mid 20th century film exposes the danger of
consumerism in transforming a small town of morally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After George saves Clarence from drowning, Clarence reveals to George and the Tollkeeper that he
tricked George into saving him: I didn t fall in. I jumped in to save George (Capra, It s a Wonderful
Life). Clarence s assertion confirms his awareness of George s ethical value, knowing George would
save him and this would prevent him from suicide. Soon after, George wishes he had never been born
and Bedford Falls transforms into Pottersville. Now in Pottersville, people do not know George Bailey
and they treat him poorly, unable to perceive his ethical value. Stopping by what was Martini s and is
now Nick s Place, Nick does not recognize George when he calls him by his name: What s that got to
do with it? I don t know you from Adam s off ox (Capra, It s a Wonderful Life). Nick does not know
George and this contributes to his and Clarence s being tossed from the bar. Walking through the
streets, George takes in all that Bedford Falls becomes without him and the Building and Loan. The
ethics of the small town has been replaced with flashy lights, pawnshops, glitzy theaters, and crude
people to fill it. On his ride with Bert in his police car, George learns what has come of Bert s life: I
live in a shack in Potter s Field and my wife ran away three years ago and took the kid...And I ain t
never seen you before in my life, see? (Capra, It s a Wonderful Life). Without the Building and Loan,
people like Bert do not get homes and are forced to live in Potter s Field, making him crass and
unprincipled, as evidenced by his firing his gun into an open crowd. Like the others, Bert does not

Analysis of Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler
The unmistakable dominance of men during the nineteenth century is an influential factor in the
establishment of the central theme of Henrik Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler. Due to Hedda s lack of
independence, she develops a strong desire for control. The direct relationship between Hedda s
marriage with George and her sly, manipulative characteristics is manifested by Ibsen during the work.
Ibsen also exposes weakness in Mrs. Elvsted through her dependability on various male characters for
fulfillment in life. How do expectations of gender roles in the nineteenth century affect plot scheme
and develop a theme of male dominance in Henrik Ibsen s Hedda Gabler? Deeper insight to this

Elvsted share for each other. The loss of the manuscript, after Hedda destroys it in a fit of raging
jealousy, signifies the death of Eilert and Mrs. Elvsted s child, as well as their relationship. The
catastrophe is too much for Eilert to handle, and Mrs. Elvsted fails to offer a voice of comfort.
Consequently, he takes his own life and destroys Mrs. Elvsted s hope for the future. Her dependency
on her first husband for financial support and then on her true love, Lövborg, for a sensation of self
worth reflects the view of women s helplessness during the nineteenth century. The static character
traits displayed through Mrs. Elvsted s constant reliance on male figures also illustrate the lack of
progress being made by women of the time. Ibsen s creation of female inferiority through Mrs.
Elvsted s failure of independence supports the preconceived notion of male dominance. In addition,
the shy personality traits given to Mrs. Elvsted effectively create a timid female character with
weaknesses regarding self esteem. The submissive statements from Mrs. Elvsted s conversations with
other characters exploit these weaknesses and allow other characters, such as Hedda, to take
advantage of them. Consequently, these opportunities for manipulation dictate Hedda s actions and
also the scheme of the plot. Commonly accepted terms representing informality and casualty to a
person are used more

Carl Freud And Freud s Three Stages Of Development
The third stage of development in Freudian theory is the Phallic stage , which starts at the age of three
and goes on until the age of six. During this particular stage according to Freud, children are said to
take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially strong desires
towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his mother). This kind of
behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud means that the boys during
this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who are seen to be seeking the mother s
attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his father might find out and punish the boy by
the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due to which they may develop castration anxiety. And
the same desire called Electra complex which is the desire developed in girls for their fathers and in
the thought of replacing their mothers is discussed during later on by Carl Jung. This stage helps in the
development of Superego in life. The fourth stage of development according to Freudian theory is the
Latency stage , which starts at age six and continued until puberty or twelve years of age. During this
particular stage, the child s sexual desires than to subside and they start to additionally develop their
conscience or superego. They begin to act and behave socially accepted by learning appropriate values
from their parents or caregivers as their sex instincts are sublimated into hobbies, school activities, and
sports and they also start focusing on developing and maintaining same sex friendships amongst their
groups. The fifth and last stage of development according to the Freudian theory is the Genital stage ,
which starts from puberty to adulthood. During this particular stage, the sexual desire re emerges if
every stage was developed correctly. In this stage, adolescents join in appropriate sexual behavior with
their partners and develop a secure relationship which can later lead to lifelong commitment, marriage
and focus more on reproducing their future offsprings through sexual intercourse. During this stage,
individuals find satisfaction in their work and love. In order

Moral Panic Essay
Moral Panic Moral panic is a widely used and often misinterpreted concept in social sciences. The
term was invented by the British sociologist Stanley Cohen the late sixties. Cohen defined moral panic
as a form of collective behaviour during which: A condition, episode, person or group emerges to
become defined as a threat to societal values and interests; its nature is presented in a stylised and

It represents the collective fear of the society from the other . I suggest that today moral panic is not
simply a matter of exaggerated social problems, but it is a fear of losing control over the other and the
fear of the truth about the other . Moral panic intends to reinforce the boundaries between the self and
the other . My case study is the moral panic of pornography on the Internet. Moral panic What is
moral panic? Moral panic is a form of collective behaviour that from one day to the other considers a
certain group of people dangerous. The reasons might vary from fake rumours to real (exaggerated)
facts. The period of a moral panic usually ends with social actions either in form of attacking the other
(in the case of a Satanic Ritual) or in changing the law (pornography on the Internet). Moral panics
usually take place at the time of significant changes in society, when there is a great fear of loss of
control. In these times collective consciousness needs to be reinforced so that society can locate new
boundaries. Other examples of moral panics are over witchcrafts, satanic rituals, drugs, handguns,
teenage pregnancy, TV violence, Internet and so on. According to Goode and Ben Yehuda, moral
panic has the following necessary indicators: 1. Concern (different from fear) over the imagined threat

Examined Life
Since the beginning of class, the students have been told the words of Socrates that, the unexamined
life is not worth living . If one does not take the time to reflect on their life, they will not develop
themselves as a person. Life consists of five dimensions that, when examined, form the examined life.
Each dimension of the examined life is interdependent and requires attention in order to develop and
be successful as an individual that can contribute value to the world. The intellectual dimension of the
examined life demonstrates this interdependence as it encompasses many of the other dimensions in
its application. In fact, Chickering, in his article, lays out how all encompassing a liberal education is.

Unlike other subjects like maths, science, Arts and English, the subject was not even tested. We
always thought of it as another boring lesson on computer architecture or Microsoft office.
Meanwhile, an American young called Mark Zikirburg was applying his knowledge of computer
programming to create what has become the largest social media network in the world. A network that
worth more than 100 billion dollar and connecting more than billion people across the globe. The
importance of delivering programming knowledge has been recognised by quite a few countries
worldwide and the United Kingdom could be one of the best examples. In September 2013, some
exciting changes were made to the national curriculum. ICT Information and Communications
Technology was out, replaced by a new computer science curriculum including coding lessons for
children as young as five. Also, in the United States, the teaching kids to code movement has been
calling for change in the computing curriculum by putting more emphasis in the computer
programming, and it has received a lot of support from business and non profit organization and
public figures including the American President Barak Obama who gave speech on 12/8/2013 calling
for support from the public for these changes.
However, despite this remarkable recognition of the need for teaching programming in schools, the
subject is still very controversial. While some people argue that we might not be ready yet

The Federalist Papers By Alexander Hamilton, James...
But the Federalists would not easily forfeit. They argued that the Constitution didn t require a Bill of
Rights. The Federalist Papers written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay, summed
up the thoughts of many Federalists. In Federalist Paper No. 84 Publius, a pseudonym under which
they wrote, addressed Antifederalist worries, Bills of rights... are not only unnecessary in the proposed
Constitution, but would even be dangerous. Publius argued that because the Constitution was founded
upon the power of the people the people surrendered nothing, and retained all rights not explicitly
given to the federal government. Alexander Hamilton summed up this perfectly when he asked, Why,
for instance, should it be said that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is
given [to Congress] by which restrictions may be imposed? Many federalists shared this view, arguing
that a bill of rights would actually infringe upon individual liberties, because such bill could not
possibly cover every right the people were entitled to. Madison shared this view, adding that a bill of
rights is a parchment barrier and that the best way to protect individual and state liberties was to
separate the powers among three branches of government. He opposed a bill of rights in the
constitutional convention of 1787, in many of his contributions to the Federalist Papers, and at the
Richmond convention. It wasn t until late 1788 that Madison actually endorsed a

The Moral Theory Of Deontology
I believe that the moral theory of Deontology, which is also called non consequentialism, incorrectly
answers the question What is right? The reason being that Deontology answers this question base on
each individual experience and belief, which most likely will always be different from person to
person. In my stance I will first explain the moral theory of Deontology, secondly I will point out how
Deontology answers the question What is right? , and lastly analyze why the moral theory of
Deontology will fail in answering the question of What is right? The moral theory of Deontology is
defined in the book Ethic Theory and Practice by Thiroux and Krasemann, that Deontology is not
consequence based, and that one should base their decision on whether their decision is morally right
in the first place. In the theory of Deontology there is an assumption that there are no general moral
rules or universal law in place, and instead depends on each individual believing their own moral
laws, such as the divine command theory in which one believes that a higher power made the rules,
and that those rules should never be broken regardless of consequence. Basically Deontology is all
about individualism, and the moral of those individual, based on experience and belief, can be used to
justify their decision. The way the moral theory of Deontology would answer the question What is
right? would be based on one s own experience and belief, meaning it would be different from

The name Starbucks came from a character that was chief mate aboard the Pequod in the novel Moby
Dick by Herman Melville (Rolph, 2012). Originally, the name for the company was Pequod until one

These are just some of what gives Starbucks the competitive advantage. By staying ahead of the
competition, Starbucks is not only able to set industry trends but also satisfy its customers, employees

The basis of the competitive advantage Starbucks has on the coffee shop industry stems from its
ability to market its brand and live up to its mission statement. In addition, Starbucks doesn t rely
solely on its products for obtaining and sustaining the upper hand. According to MarketRealist.com,
when customers enter a Starbucks establishment they are taking on an entire process and experience
(Krikorian, 2014). By choosing Starbucks, customers can customize their drinks to perfection by
selecting one of its 30 different options of premier coffee blends. Following the order process,
customers can enjoy the great atmosphere by listening to music or perhaps enjoy taking part in
friendly conversations with pleasant workers and patrons. Simply put, Starbucks thrives on a
connected customer experience that differentiates them from the rest of the industry. Also, retail

The Tyranny Of White Majority Essay
The United States, even though considered the land of freedom, has been struggling with lingering
racism and discrimination throughout the 19th and 20th century. Democratic reform throughout the
century were implanted to eliminate the tyranny of the white majority Yet many scholars like
Tocqueville, Fredrick Harris and WEB DuBois have challenged these results. The reality is that the
tyranny of white majority has continued throughout the 18th to the 21st century resulting in a society
that has suppressed and constantly failed to integrate African American into the white society by
neglecting the race, using natural prejudice, race neutral policies, and laws that benefited whites more
than African Americans.
Even before the 13th amendment and emancipation of slaves, small reforms in the northern states
were being implemented to create a true free society. One would argue that these reforms were the
first steps of a liberal reform that would lead to the eventual equality amongst the two races but what
is forgotten is that even though reforms were passed the white majority had a natural prejudice.
Tocqueville explains what makes the natural prejudice was the disgrace the African American
ethnicity received by being forced as slaves. This slavery was based on race rather than being like
ancient slavery which had nothing to do the face of a person (PG 400). The African Americans who
were considered free during the that were still disgraced because as Tocqueville said free

The Importance Of Teaching And Learning
Teachers involving students in the learning process should require them to utilize thinking skills of
higher order. Teachers should also designed lesson plans that are rigorous but can be adaptable to each
student (whether students are general or special education) in the class. Educators should have
activities that will nurture social development and student responsibilities, as this will give them the
opportunity to exercise responsibility and practice interacting with others. Due to the fact students are
in high school, there are no rewards for good behavior being practice. However, punishment in the
class will be dealt with immediately in order to provide a stable environment of teaching and learning;
as policy and procedure is addressed for misconduct at the beginning of the year Teachers must
encourage students to use higher order thinking skills in order to involve them in the learning process,
(Bonwell Eison, n.d.). Higher learning thinking skills students should be using in and out the
classroom are analysis, synthesis, and evaluation, (Carlos, 2017). For instance, Ms. Carlos, an
instructor at McNair High School is teaching a lesson on Algebraic Concepts and understanding their
terms and formulas, she can involve the students in group discussions by having the students to work
formulas on the board. Another way she can have the students use high learning thinking is to include
various applications using the formulas in the lessons. One technique that is

Work In Canada
Social Work in Canada and The Philippines
Despite geographically on different corners of the world, there remains a lot of similarities between
the Canadian and Philippine social work practice. In both jurisdictions, social work is a recognized
profession. In the Philippines, Republic Act 4373 laid the basis for professionalization social work.
The organized social work practice in the Philippines was introduced during the American rule (1898
1946) to gradually extend public coordination of welfare services. (Aspalter, 2014). In Canada,
although there is no law creating the profession, the Canadian Association of Social Workers was
established to establish standards of social work practice. Each province established its own Colleges
to govern the practice of social work on the local level. The first recognition of social workers in the
Philippines came after its liberation from the United States when the Philippine Association of Social
Workers was organized (Almanzor, 1966; Yu, 2006 as cited in Aspalter, 2014). Through their
influence further, social welfare gradually transitions towards professionalization to emphasize the
need to coordinate welfare services. Landa Jocano (1980: 63 as cited in Aspalter, 2014). In both
territories, a governing body supervises the practice. In both jurisdictions, practice theories are based
on Western origin and orientation. Though Canada has pioneered some intellectual contributions in

Bitcoin Is A New Form Of Currency
Bitcoin is a new form of currency that is entirely digital with no central authority. It can be traded
anywhere; it is accepted for all sorts of goods and services. There are online market places and
exchanges to allow you to exchange Bitcoin for USD or other currencies. But with an entirely digital
nature comes the potential for a very risky business. The currency, sites, and transactions all have the
possibility of being hacked. Theft is still likely to occur with digital currencies. The way transactions
are processed gives the currency an anonymous nature. This anonymity allows for it to be used in
unethical and ultimately illegal ways. This paper shows both positive and negative sides of Bitcoin
and demonstrates how Bitcoin can be a valid currency with better control. Due to the recent nature of
this topic and how it will be discussed in this paper, there are very few reasonable scholarly sources
available. There are a few from well known publications and journals but none that touch on Bitcoin
in the way I would like to discuss it. I have a few good sources to pull from but because the lack of
scholarly sources, I will have to use sources such as Wikipedia and Bitcoin.org because they are the
authoritative source of information for Bitcoin. Before one can pass judgment on whether Bitcoin can

The Lindbergh Baby Case is a case about a famous aviator, Charles Lindbergh Sr., whose baby
Charles Lindbergh Jr, was kidnapped from his home in New Jersey on March 1, 1932 between 8:00pm
11:30pm. Eventually two and a half years later the guilty party was found. However, in order for the
family to find out what happened to their innocent child they had to use the help of the New Jersey

The first component of the criminal justice system the police, received news of Baby Lindbergh s

Rose For Emily Sympathy
William Faulkner s short story, A Rose for Emily, is depicted through the several encounters and
accounts of a group of townspeople during the period of her life. Although it is not specifically stated,
it can be inferred that the narrators are not of one particular gender or age category, but are a large
combination of diverse bystanders compiled to recount the notorious events of the life of Emily
Grierson. Additionally, it is implied that the narrators are Caucasian men and women during a time in
which white superiority prevailed, for it is made evident in the story by the presence of offensive

On the contrary, the rose symbolizes the pity and sympathy in which the author feels for the
protagonist as the story progresses and reveals the tragic incidents that have permeated her life with
solemn misery. In the era in which this work was originally created, it was common to offer a rose to
one who has endured great suffering to display their emotions of sorrow and condolence. Therefore,
the title itself unveils that Emily might partake on a journey of heartbreak and bitterness and would be
the epitome of a valid recipient of rose in that period. A logical reason as to why the title is not A Rose
for Miss Emily is that it might reveal more of the story than Faulkner had originally intended. When
addressing the protagonist as Miss, the reader immediately knows that she is a maiden, without a
husband and maybe without a true love. However, when Emily is simply referred to by her first name,
the audience is given broader horizon and a greater amount of space to imagine how the details of the
story will unfold. Thus, one does not know whether she is single, married, divorced, widowed, a
mother, a grandmother, and so

about 62 cases per year (Omer). As one can see, the amount of cases of the measles decreased since

Vegas Persuasive Speech
A few years ago at the streets of the cities one can see casino Vegas. The slots gaily winked at the
adrenaline fans with hundreds colorful lamps offering them to try their luck. Everybody of them
secretly from all hoped for the best at Vegas slots, dreaming of a crazy jackpot or at least a big prize.
Today everything is different. Now it is much easier for gamers, as for trips to casino Vegas and
playing Vegas slots, because absolutely all the Vegas slots free are in the same place online. Bright
pages of virtual casino are full of familiar logos, characters and titles. It seems to have been before
somewhere in the past. And really it was many visitors stood in straight lines at the casino. Now all
these players migrated into internet.

Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics
As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the same
systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of human acts
that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity (Dorling and
Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain extent one could
infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most importantly of those who
accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed foundation for social knowledge,
which inevitably become subjective. This essay aims to discuss how ideological biases within the

These particular areas tend to be inner city, with a high population of ethnic minorities, poverty and
crime (Lynn and Elliot, 2000) . Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become less
representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of people, and
the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal groups, criminal
areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun crime was a problem within
the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics can give across an ideological
bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular group. Arguably, higher levels of
police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a cyclical effect whereby ideological biases
fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases levels of offending in statistics, as described by
Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony
Blair.
Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of
deviance. This was evident in Britain during the late 20th century where Black people were seen as
deviant and Asians were seen as law abiding victims. Their

Relevance Of Mesopotamia Essay
The relevance of ancient Mesopotamia can be simply stated: Mesopotamia produced the world s first
humanists studying ancient Mesopotamia enables students to explore what it is to be human,
(Jamieson Ancient Mesopotamia: Discovering Civilisation 23).
The Fertile Crescent is where the start of civilization occurred, and it is often called the cradle of
civilization, (Jamieson Ancient Mesopotamia: Discovering Civilisation 23). Understanding the
development, the of civilization in the Fertile Crescent is important in the understanding the
development of all civilization because Mesopotamia was the first civilization. Before people settled

Also, urbanisation, the wheel, astronomy, mathematics, irrigation, agricultural developments, animal
husbandry and writing all came from the land between two rivers, (Jamieson Ancient Mesopotamia:
Discovering Civilisation 23). These accomplishments indicate how advanced the first civilization was
and emphasizes the importance of the people of the Fertile Crescent.
The domestication of plants and animals was significant because it allowed people to settle and
eliminated the need to be nomads in search for new resources. Mesopotamia was located in the Fertile
Crescent where the land was perfect for successful farming, and it was where the domestication of
plants and animals started which allowed civilization to grow and thrive, (Jamieson Ancient
Mesopotamia: Discovering Civilisation 25). The development of agriculture also allowed for more
specialized labor, according to Jamieson, the production of an agricultural surplus allowed segments
of the population to be diverted to other areas or projects, leading to developments in new industries
(such as pottery production, stone carving and metalwork), (Jamieson Ancient Mesopotamia:
Discovering Civilisation 25). Kozlowski describes this as the Agricultural Revolution, (Kozlowski

the domestication of animals, which lessened the need for

Grendel Philosophies
Philosophies are the ideas formed in one s mind, often about the world and the questions we have
about it. As humans, we often pick one philosophy and stick with it. How would a monster like the
character Grendel in the novel by John Gardner react to these philosophies? Throughout the novel,
Grendel experiences and is conflicted with many different philosophies. Influenced by characters such
as the Shaper, the Dragon, and the people of Hrothgar, Grendel experiences many philosophies such as
Nihilism, Solipsism, and Machiavellianism.
One of the major philosophies in the novel Grendel is Nihilism. Nihilism is the rejection of moral and
religious principles, and the belief that life is small and meaningless. In the first few pages of the
novel, John Gardner states that He cocks his head like an elderly, slow witted king, considers his
angles, decides to ignore me. I stamp. I hammer the ground with my fists. I hurl a skull size stone at
him. He will not budge. (Gardner, 5). Here is a snippet of Grendel s hatred towards life and even
nature. Throughout the novel, Grendel proves to the reader that he doesn t really care about anybody
except for himself. In this quote, Grendel sees a ram and tries to make it leave, only to fail. The ram
just stays where it is and ignores Grendel, even when Grendel yells and throws a large rock at it. As
John Gardner states, I understood that the world was nothing: a mechanical chaos of casual, brute
enmity on which we stupidly impose our hopes

Research Methods in Nursing
Southern Adventist University
School of Nursing
It seems like everywhere you go you are reminded that it is that time of the year. Just a short drive
around town it is evident that flu shots are encouraged everywhere one looks. From medical personnel
to store checkouts one finds themselve bombarded with the question, Have you gotten your flu shot
yet? Anyone and everyone is a candidate for the flu vaccine according to local pharmacies. (and many
people are buying into this mantra). Millions of Americans will receive the flu vaccination without a
doctor s note or regard to any underlying conditions. The only question asked is, Can you roll up your
sleeve for me? Many blindly receive the flu vaccine without question and assume that it is effective
without factual knowledge. In the healthcare system it is a requirement to get vaccinated, unless one
wishes to be sectioned off and forced to wear a mask during work. Mandatory vaccinations have been
enacted among some employers pushing employees to receive the vaccination. This is despite their
views, concerns, or questions in regards to the safety and effectiveness of the flu vaccination. There is
much debate over whether the pros outweigh the cons in regards to inoculation. In an age where

Leni Riefenstahl
Research Assessment on a Personality in the Twentieth Century: Leni Riefenstahl a) Describe the
major influences that led to the rise to prominence of your chosen personality in her nation s history.
The major influences that led to Leni Riefenstahl s rise to prominence includes a fateful event that
kindles her fascination with film, the continual influence of mountain (Berg) films and acclaimed
director Dr Arnold Fanck as well as her first début as a director and producer.
In 1925 Leni Riefenstahl injured her knee whilst dancing in Prague which threatened to end her
dancing career. Fatefully, it was this injury that introduced her to mountain films as she came across
an advertising poster for Berg des Schicksals (Mountain of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As the film opened in Germany and around the world it became obvious that Riefenstahl had achieved
overall success, beyond all expectations. In America, specifically New York it was called flawless and
a highly fascinating fantasy . The Blue Light was even awarded a silver medal at the first Venice
Biennale that year. Riefenstahl still saw herself primarily as an actress, but after her new found
success, expected to continue filmmaking as a career. If The Blue Light had not influenced her career
path she would not have reached her prominence with her films such as Triumph of the Will and
Olympia to come. Riefenstahl did not only gain wider international fame, she also gained the
admiration and support of Adolf Hitler. According to Audrey Salkeld, Hitler was already an admirer of
hers, having been won over by her first dance of fluttering veils in her first movie.......From then on,
he had followed her career with interest, The Blue Light in particular catching his imagination. Indeed
the success of The Blue Light was one of the determining influences on Riefenstahl s rise to
prominence as she states, This film was pivotal in my life, not so much because it was my first
successful effort as a producer and director, but because Hitler was so fascinated by this film that he
insisted I make a documentary about the Party rally in Nuremberg. The result was Triumph of

Brand Portfolio Strategy Analysis Of Olay Canada
Below is the brand portfolio strategy analysis of Olay Canada, which includes Olay brand naming
policy and a recommendation to launch a brand extension into a new category. Olay is one of the
world s most valuable beauty brand.
Olay s portfolio strategy Olay started with the product logo of Oil of Olay back in 1952 with the Pink
Beauty Fluid . The brand has since then introduced a number of collections such as Prox, Regenerist,
Fresh Effects etc. It rebranded itself as Olay back in the 90s and now the brand purpose of Olay can be
inferred as Harness the power of innovation to treat the root cause of skin concerns with quality

However, the overarching theme remains the same as they target skin care to help you look younger.
These products also form part of different collections that provide a unique benefit to its users, and
they overlap within these product categories, these include Prox, Regenerist, Total Effects, Fresh
Effects, Complete and Classics. They are shown in Appendix A3 and form part of the brand portfolio.
For example, ProX which is intended for tackling root causes of aging has products in Cleansers,
Moisturizer and Treatment. Likewise, most of their collections overlap in products with different
categories. Another relationship, particularly for the Body product category, is the scent in the product.
For instance, the Orchid scent is available in Bar Soap, Body Lotion and Body wash. Similarly, there
are other scents available in these subcategories.
The portfolio graphics in Appendix B explain Olay s visual representation across four different
products. In general the Olay brand is visible in the graphics, however, its collection of ProX appears
to have a bigger visual representation in its packaging. The colors, layout, and typeface are specific
and vary for each product collection/brand.
The portfolio role for Olay from a P G perspective can be described as a cash cow. As Olay is a market
leader in the skin care product category and has consistently held a similar market share. However, the
category is getting more competitive and Olay s positioning

Instagram Reflection Paper
I also saw a lot of flags, which inspired me to draw the flag of Ghana and digitally display it, so I went
back to the drawing board. After I went out to the main exhibit, I stood at the wall waiting for my leaf.
I decided to look around the rest of the 270 degree wall for my leaf. After five minutes of waiting,
another visitor stood beside me searching for her leaf as well. After 10 minutes passed, I decided to
accept that my leaf was not coming anytime soon and it was the last part of the exhibit that I had to
experience anyway. I could tell there were still bugs in the system, so I thanked the guides and headed
back to the L Enfant metro station to go home. I initially planned on going twice that week, but I think
I saw everything I need to see the first time.
On my way back home I thought, maybe this is just a playground for Instagram and snapchat posts.
When I first arrived, my tour guide highly advised that I take photos and and post them with
Artechouse tagged. On Instagram, Artechouse has close to 6,000 photos tagged Artechouse. This is
not including Twitter posts or variations of tags Artechouse hashtags on Instagram. Maybe they aren t
as prioritized on the content as they are attracting people to experience something new. This is
interesting because I first heard about the art installation through Snapchat and Instagram posts rather
than traditional media or word of mouth. Even though the founders understand the excitement on
social media for Artechouse, they

  • 2. The Diction Of A Third Person Narrative In this form, the narrator has used a greater amount of diction one might use to talk to themselves, in a sort of internal monologue. The validity of these first person structures as representations of fiction are questioned by Martin, he feels that the type of structure implicitly claims it is about the real world (142). Structures of narration that utilize the third person tend to avoid such claims of absolute truth. Grammar continues with the introduction of representations of consciousness that employ a third person voice. The third person narrator does not have the same sense of physicality and personhood that a first person narrator would have. Instead, the narrator takes the role of an observer who was little to no effect on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Self Censorship In today s society, people no longer communicate with each other on a respectful level. Although everyone has their own opinion, this generation does not take other people s opinions into perspective. There are very few leaders who are setting examples for their peers. They are constantly bashing their objectors for not having the same opinions and ideas that they think are competent. This causes this generation to self censor themselves because they do not want to receive negative backlash on their opinions and ideas. Self censorship is exercising control over what one has to say and how he or she may act in order to avoid castigation (English Oxford Living Dictionaries). It also obstructs creativity and prevents individuals from forming their own opinions and ideas. Self censorship prevents this generation from exploring the depths of creativity and forces people to hold back opinions that may be bottled up on the inside. It can affect everyone. Adults often have business ideas that they think can impact our younger generation and that generation to come, but because of the fear of co workers disagreeing with them, they may contradict their original thought. This precludes their talents from advancing on to the next level of success (OxBow School). Students sometimes can have different opinions than their teachers, but out of fear of getting in trouble, they never vocalize their opinions. This can at times affect the relationship between the teachers and their students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this religion, their main worships are God and many Loas. A Loa is a God and a good spirit in the Voodoo religion. Aside from believing in the many Loas, Voodoo is mainly a monotheist religion. Voodooists also believe in reincarnation. To them, there is no good or bad place to go after someone passes away. This is because they believe that they will live another life. A person s life influences what will happen to them in their next live. For example, if someone has spent their life as a good and honest person, they will ascend to Loa and have the opportunity and power to shape the world. Where, if someone lived a misbehaved life, the person would live a new cycle of life and be given every opportunity to change the outcome of what will happen to them after death. If their angry life repeats itself, they will be physically or spiritually punished by Loa. Voodoo Loas are to be strictly broken down into two groups, Rada Loas and Petro Loas. The Rada Loas are considered to be the good Loas and serve creation, socialization, and life. The Petro Loas are considered to be a group of demons who are responsible for harmful sorcery. In some cases, Voodooists believe that a Loa could be considered both Rada and Petro, but they are usually convinced otherwise. • 5. Jane Austen s Novel And The World Of Books Novels are a unique form of writing that brings about a new style in the world of books. Novel by its definition is a new kind different from anything ever before. These books range from the greats to the recently printed because novels only have to be new for when they came out. So for instance Pride and Prejudice was novel when it came out in 1813 just like how Mrs. Dalloway was novel when it came out in 1925. Although these novels seem to be fiction, if not realistic fiction, it is common to wonder how the authors came up with these ideas for their books. In actuality most authors take experiences that they had from their lives and incorporated them into the story. Often after researching an author one can see that there are many parallels between their novel and their actual life. Some aspects can be from other situations outside of ones personal life, but ultimately authors create much of their stories based off of life experiences and can be seen in Housekeeping, The Passion, and Thomas and Beulah. Growing up in Sandpoint Idaho was the first influence that Marilynne Robinson had when it comes to writing her stories. In this instance it has influenced her in her writing of Housekeeping to have a more western and Midwestern feel to there locations. On top of that she includes many rural factors into her stories other than Housekeeping referencing her life growing up in rural Idaho. One of the more notable factors in this comparison in Housekeeping is the town of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Effects of Coloniztionon First Nations 1. Discuss your understanding of historic and contemporary colonization, how it continues to affect First Nations, Metis, and or Inuit peoples today and how it may be reflected in your proposed specific area of social work practice. To begin with, colonization began when first contact was made between Indigenous peoples of Canada and Europeans. At first the settlers were humble to Indigenous peoples and learnt how to survive the diverse land of what is known as Canada. As settlers began getting established in Canada, the land began getting taken over by Europeans. The signing of treaties was a mechanism used to divide and conquer the lands from Indigenous peoples. Indian reserves were created to separate different tribes and land was claimed for natives to live on. According to ..... the land given was not very healthy and did not accommodate the way first nation peoples lived. Next, the Indian Act was established in hopes to absorb indianess and in hopes would expire therefore eliminating the existence of indianess . In addition to the Indian Act came another mechanism called residential schools. According to Frideres (2011) residential schools were an educational institution established by the Canadian government and the Roman Catholic missionaries for the purpose of forcing native people to abandon their culture and adopt a more superior way of living. The first residential school was established in 1874, after which the number of these schools rapidly spread all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The BLM has recommended that the maximum population that the land can sustain is 26,715 (Gorey and Lutterman 1). The BLM must find ways to control the population because of the crowding. According to Wild Horse Education Population control is a phrase used to describe the methods that are utilized by the BLM to achieve what they term as Appropriate Management Level, or AML ( Population Control 1). Appropriate management level is the amount of horses and burros that can thrive in balance with other public land resources and uses. If left uncontrolled, Mother Nature would regulate the population by disease, dehydration, and starvation. The population of the horses would increase causing food to become scarce and the horses to starve. Not controlling the population would be inhumane. The horses would suffer from starvation, causing a slow death. Private ranchers obtain permits for their cattle to graze on BLM land which further affects the problem of scarcity of food and water for all animals. To compare it to the Pantheon is quite a feat, but they don t have as many similarities as one would imagine. The Parthenon of Ancient Greece serves as a temple, but it also had another purpose. The Pantheon served as a monument and temple, to dedicate not only to the emperor of Rome but the gods and the Christian god later on. The Parthenon sits at the peak of the Athenian acropolis and was certainly a symbol of Athenian might. It represented not only the democracy of Athens, but especially the imperial prowess of the short lived Athenian Empire. It was initially a temple devoted to the gods, built by Pericles and his ambitious building program. The building, although it made the acropolis much more grandeur than the acropolis burnt down by the Persians years earlier, represented something much more than just spirituality it had a function. It was to hold the treasury of the Delian League, the league that was created, which Athens led, to thwart the Persian threat. However, overtime the Delian League became a league for Athenian ... These forms all have specifics that set their therapeutic sessions apart, but are similar in that they all begin with a technique called joining. Joining is basically an establishment of alliance between the therapist and the family (Killian). Therapists are advised to discover how the family members feel toward the problem in this situation. A way of ensuring family involvement would be to set specific guidelines about the affect patient s behavior and the family s reactions toward the behavior. For example, a therapist may initiate a plan in which the patient must be responsible for replacing the family food in which he/she binges on. This activity will enhance the removal of the rest of the family to be in constant fear for the patient; it will also allow the patient to begin to regain control of one aspect of his/her life. Her dependency on her first husband for financial support and then on her true love, Lövborg, for a sensation of self worth reflects the view of women s helplessness during the nineteenth century. The static character traits displayed through Mrs. Elvsted s constant reliance on male figures also illustrate the lack of progress being made by women of the time. Ibsen s creation of female inferiority through Mrs. Elvsted s failure of independence supports the preconceived notion of male dominance. In addition, the shy personality traits given to Mrs. Elvsted effectively create a timid female character with weaknesses regarding self esteem. The submissive statements from Mrs. Elvsted s conversations with other characters exploit these weaknesses and allow other characters, such as Hedda, to take advantage of them. During this particular stage according to Freud, children are said to take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially strong desires towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his mother). This kind of behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud means that the boys during this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who are seen to be seeking the mother s attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his father might find out and punish the boy by the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due to which they may develop castration anxiety. The term was invented by the British sociologist Stanley Cohen the late sixties. Cohen defined moral panic as a form of collective behaviour during which: A condition, episode, person or group emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests; its nature is presented in a stylised and stereotypical fashion by the mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops, politicians and other right thinking people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnosis and solutions; ways of coping are evolved or (more often) resorted to; the condition then disappears, ... I suggest that today moral panic is not simply a matter of exaggerated social problems, but it is a fear of losing control over the other and the fear of the truth about the other . Moral panic intends to reinforce the boundaries between the self and the other . My case study is the moral panic of pornography on the Internet. Moral panic What is moral panic? Moral panic is a form of collective behaviour that from one day to the other considers a certain group of people dangerous. The reasons might vary from fake rumours to real (exaggerated) facts. The period of a moral panic usually ends with social actions either in form of attacking the other (in the case of a Satanic Ritual) or in changing the law (pornography on the Internet). Moral panics usually take place at the time of significant changes in society, when there is a great fear of loss of control. In these times collective consciousness needs to be reinforced so that society can locate new boundaries. Other examples of moral panics are over witchcrafts, satanic rituals, drugs, handguns, teenage pregnancy, TV violence, Internet and so on. According to Goode and Ben Yehuda, moral panic has the following necessary indicators: 1. Concern (different from fear) over the imagined threat (and those associated with ... In Federalist Paper No. 84 Publius, a pseudonym under which they wrote, addressed Antifederalist worries, Bills of rights... are not only unnecessary in the proposed Constitution, but would even be dangerous. Publius argued that because the Constitution was founded upon the power of the people the people surrendered nothing, and retained all rights not explicitly given to the federal government. Alexander Hamilton summed up this perfectly when he asked, Why, for instance, should it be said that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given [to Congress] by which restrictions may be imposed? Many federalists shared this view, arguing that a bill of rights would actually infringe upon individual liberties, because such bill could not possibly cover every right the people were entitled to. Madison shared this view, adding that a bill of rights is a parchment barrier and that the best way to protect individual and state liberties was to separate the powers among three branches of government. The reason being that Deontology answers this question base on each individual experience and belief, which most likely will always be different from person to person. In my stance I will first explain the moral theory of Deontology, secondly I will point out how Deontology answers the question What is right? , and lastly analyze why the moral theory of Deontology will fail in answering the question of What is right? The moral theory of Deontology is defined in the book Ethic Theory and Practice by Thiroux and Krasemann, that Deontology is not consequence based, and that one should base their decision on whether their decision is morally right in the first place. In the theory of Deontology there is an assumption that there are no general moral rules or universal law in place, and instead depends on each individual believing their own moral laws, such as the divine command theory in which one believes that a higher power made the rules, and that those rules should never be broken regardless of consequence. Basically Deontology is all about individualism, and the moral of those individual, based on experience and belief, can be used to justify their decision. Democratic reform throughout the century were implanted to eliminate the tyranny of the white majority Yet many scholars like Tocqueville, Fredrick Harris and WEB DuBois have challenged these results. The reality is that the tyranny of white majority has continued throughout the 18th to the 21st century resulting in a society that has suppressed and constantly failed to integrate African American into the white society by neglecting the race, using natural prejudice, race neutral policies, and laws that benefited whites more than African Americans. Even before the 13th amendment and emancipation of slaves, small reforms in the northern states were being implemented to create a true free society. One would argue that these reforms were the first steps of a liberal reform that would lead to the eventual equality amongst the two races but what is forgotten is that even though reforms were passed the white majority had a natural prejudice. Tocqueville explains what makes the natural prejudice was the disgrace the African American ethnicity received by being forced as slaves. This slavery was based on race rather than being like ancient slavery which had nothing to do the face of a person (PG 400). • 43. Ideological Bias Reflected in American Crime Statistics As Nils Christie argued, crime is a property of the state (2004). As such, it can be defined by the same systems of ideals which influence the state. Crime statistics, which refer to a category of human acts that society view as deviant, can consequently be argued to be without objectivity (Dorling and Simpson, 1999). The statistics they provide are thus arguably not exact. To a certain extent one could infer they are reflections of society, of those who present the data and most importantly of those who accumulate it. The facts themselves become a socially constructed foundation for social knowledge, which inevitably become subjective. This essay aims to discuss how ideological biases within the Police and to a certain extent the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These particular areas tend to be inner city, with a high population of ethnic minorities, poverty and crime (Lynn and Elliot, 2000) . Thus not only does the sample and the data it acquires become less representative of the population as a whole, it in turn over represents particular groups of people, and the types of crimes committed; which in turn gives across bias ideologies of criminal groups, criminal areas and the level of crime. As exemplified by Tony Blair who stated gun crime was a problem within the black community (Wintour and Dodd, 2007), these crime statics can give across an ideological bias of the relationship between a particular crime and a particular group. Arguably, higher levels of police are distributed in these areas which in turn creates a cyclical effect whereby ideological biases fuels higher levels of policing, which in turn increases levels of offending in statistics, as described by Sharp and Budd (2005), which consequently fuels the ideological biases as demonstrated by Tony Blair. Ideological bias can also under represent particular groups, giving a bias towards their lack of deviance. This was evident in Britain during the late 20th century where Black people were seen as deviant and Asians were seen as law abiding victims. Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The development of agriculture also allowed for more specialized labor, according to Jamieson, the production of an agricultural surplus allowed segments of the population to be diverted to other areas or projects, leading to developments in new industries (such as pottery production, stone carving and metalwork), (Jamieson Ancient Mesopotamia: Discovering Civilisation 25). How would a monster like the character Grendel in the novel by John Gardner react to these philosophies? Throughout the novel, Grendel experiences and is conflicted with many different philosophies. Influenced by characters such as the Shaper, the Dragon, and the people of Hrothgar, Grendel experiences many philosophies such as Nihilism, Solipsism, and Machiavellianism. One of the major philosophies in the novel Grendel is Nihilism. Nihilism is the rejection of moral and religious principles, and the belief that life is small and meaningless. In the first few pages of the novel, John Gardner states that He cocks his head like an elderly, slow witted king, considers his angles, decides to ignore me. I stamp. I hammer the ground with my fists. I hurl a skull size stone at him. He will not budge. (Gardner, 5). Here is a snippet of Grendel s hatred towards life and even nature. Throughout the novel, Grendel proves to the reader that he doesn t really care about anybody except for himself. In this quote, Grendel sees a ram and tries to make it leave, only to fail. The ram just stays where it is and ignores Grendel, even when Grendel yells and throws a large rock at it. • 50. Instagram Reflection Paper I also saw a lot of flags, which inspired me to draw the flag of Ghana and digitally display it, so I went back to the drawing board. After I went out to the main exhibit, I stood at the wall waiting for my leaf. I decided to look around the rest of the 270 degree wall for my leaf. After five minutes of waiting, another visitor stood beside me searching for her leaf as well. After 10 minutes passed, I decided to accept that my leaf was not coming anytime soon and it was the last part of the exhibit that I had to experience anyway. I could tell there were still bugs in the system, so I thanked the guides and headed back to the L Enfant metro station to go home. I initially planned on going twice that week, but I think I saw everything I need to see the first time.
