Classifying Unknown Bacterial Organisms
The identification of bacteria is a fundamental objective of microbiologists. It is essential to
distinguish specific bacterial properties to understand the environment, physiology and disease. As
new bacterial species emerge and existing ones evolve into different strains, it is imperative that
microbiologists continue to isolate bacteria from the field, identify their findings and research newly
discovered forms. Their discoveries can then be used to evaluate the types of microbial life that may
be found in certain environments and the corresponding benefits or risks to those that dwell in those
areas. When studying unknown bacterial organisms, microbiologists use a wide variety of techniques
to observe the organism s traits and classify it. Many genotypic and phenotypic methods exist that aid
in the identification of known bacteria, the characterization of unknown bacteria, as well as the
comparison between new findings and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Difficulties Of Defining Terrorism Has Changed Our Lives
Difficulties of Defining Terrorism
Christine King

Dr. Alanna Smith

Abstract
Terrorism has been around for hundreds of years and through the years the definition of terrorism has
changed. While the United States knew of terrorism it wasn t a main stream issue for Americans, these
types of activities happened in other countries, not ours. Unfortunately that is not true, which we
found that terrorism can and did reach our shores and change our lives, this unfortunate realization
took place on September 11, 2001. Of course this was not the first terrorist activity that occurred on
American soil, it is just the one that slapped American s in the face telling us that American was not
untouchable , we are just as vulnerable as other countries. Defining terrorism has been an issue for
many years, the different branches of the federal government cannot even agree on a definition of
what terrorism is let alone different countries. To back up the above I have listed some of the different
definitions from different branches of the federal government and from other countries (White, J.
2014).
The Intelligence Community is guided by the definition of terrorism contained in Title 22 of the US
Code, Section 2656f(d): (www.cia.gov) o The term terrorism means premeditated, politically
motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine
agents. o The term international terrorism means terrorism involving the

The Cherokee Indians
Introduction:
Have you ever heard of the Cherokee Indians? Sure you have! Just as a reminder, they are the biggest
tribe, and most known of out of all the Indian tribes there has ever been in the southeast. They are very
important to American History and helped shaped us to be the Americans we are today, which is
clearly what I ll be explaining in this paper. Throughout the paper, I ll tell you everything you need to
know about the Cherokee Indians and continue to relate to the thesis.
What was their shelter like?
To start off, most people figure that the Cherokee Indians lived in tee pees, but they did not. They
lived in homes built out of mud and other materials around. By the 1700s they lived in cozy log cabins
that they had built themselves. Although most of them lived in cabins, a tiny population lived in
clapboard houses. Other than the help from Sweden, the log cabins you and me see in the Untied
States of America in our daily life s originated from the Cherokee Indians! Isn t that cool?!
Where were they located?
The Cherokee Indians were mainly know for living in the southeastern part of the United States of
America. But they had moved around several different areas before they discovered their so thought
forever home. They lived there until they were forced to leave to Oklahoma during the trail of tears.
Lots of us have heard of the Smokey Mountains, and the Smokey Mountains is where the Cherokee
Indians were famous for living at. Now the area they

John Bowlby Attachment Theory
John Bowlby, a British psychiatrist, known for his work with the attachment theory and joint work
with Mary Ainsworth, an American Canadian psychologist. His theory: the infant and young child
should experience a warm, intimate, and continuous relationship with his mother (or permanent
mother substitute) in which both find satisfaction and enjoyment. John Bowlby believed just like
Freud, that mental health as well as behavioral issues could be traced and attributed back to the child s
early ages. Before Mary Ainsworth would come on scene, John Bowlby enlisted the help of James
Robertson. The two would spend two years observing hospitalized and institutionalized children who
had been separated from their parents. James Robertson left after he could no longer go on observing
and being uninvolved, he needed to do something for the children that he had been observing. In the
1930 s, John Bowlby worked as a Child psychiatrist at the Guidance Clinic in London where he
treated many emotionally disturbed children. He was led to think about the importance of an infant or
child s relationship with their mother and their social, emotional and cognitive development. Here is
where he would form his attachment theory that would contradict the original theory of behavioral
theory . The thought behind the original theory would be that the infant is close to the mother because
she has fed the child. Come 1950, Mary Ainsworth arrives and it is her duty to analyze Robertson s

A Brief Note On Climate Justice And Accountability
Climate Justice and Accountability One portion of the Paris Agreement that will be critical to uphold
is the $100 billion pledge from developed countries to developing countries to combat the effects of
climate change. Specifically, this pledge would provide compensation for the millions of people a year
who are displaced from their homes because of natural disasters, the overwhelming majority being
from developing countries. The promise will increase to $600 billion by 2025 but does little to counter
the estimated $1.7 trillion price tag in economic damage to developing countries in the form of
droughts, floods, hurricanes, and agricultural loss. The pledge also does not indicate how funds would
be distributed and whether or not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kivalina citizens sought to recover monetary damages of up to $400 million for the cost of relocating
the entire village as a result of what they describe as the defendants past and ongoing contributions to
global warming (Complaint For Damages). Unfortunately, the court declined to hear the case because
of indistinct accountability . Many indigenous communities have taken action against impending
climate change on their own. The Quinault Indian Nation, located at the mouth of the Quinault River
on the outer coast of Washington s Olympic Peninsula, has developed a $60 million plan to move the
community, raising awareness through the nonprofit First Stewards. The Quinault Nation developed a
climate adaptation and mitigation strategy to adapt to rising sea levels and warming water and hopes
to collaborate across agencies to bring awareness to their situation. Both examples illustrate the unique
challenges climate change creates for indigenous people and traditional ways of life. As sovereign
nations, these indigenous communities have the power to adopt or ratify climate agreements without
the approval of the United States which would alter the protections afforded to them. There is also the
potential that members would be considered refugees rather than internally displaced persons, if they
are forced out of traditional tribe borders. Despite the fact that communities across the world have
been effected by human caused climate change, there is little

Coacervates Lab
Purpose or Objective: The purpose of performing this lab is to create greater understanding of the
origin of life hypothesis by creating coacervates and testing some of their properties, in this case
permeability.
Experiment 1: The purpose of this lab is to discover which pH coacervates are most abundant at, and
how they develop and behave.
Extension: The purpose of the lab extension was to test a coacervate membrane s permeability to
crystal violet dye.
Background and Theory:
Essential Question: At what pH will coacervates be most abundant, and when will they start forming
Hypothesis 1: I predict that coacervates will start developing at a pH of 5 and will be most abundant at
a pH of 4.5. Since the coacervates form after adding hydrochloric ... Show more content on

It is not known how life came to be on the earth, but it is proven that it has evolved over time, and life
is unified by a common ancestor. In the 1920s, a hypothesis was created by scientists Alexander
Oparin and J.B.S. Haldane, that predicted that the first life forms were formed in an acidic primordial
sea. Oparin believed that a string of of chemical reactions within an aquatic environment had led to
the formation of coacervates. Coacervates are aggregates of organic polymers that have life like
characteristics, but are not alive. When Oparin created coacervates, he used a couple different
solutions of macromolecules to form these aggregates, and he discovered that the coacervates had a
selectively permeable membrane. It is thought that coacervates may have been one of the first pieces
in the origin of life on Earth. This lab uses a carbohydrate, gum arabic, and a protein, gelatin to create
coacervates. As we carry out the procedures to create the coacervates, we will observe how
coacervates are formed and what characteristics they share with life. Through doing this, we will gain
better understanding of the Oparin Haldane hypothesis and the possible explanation of how life was
formed on Earth. ( Carolina™

A History of Roller Coasters Essay
Roller coasters are one of the most popular rides when you go to an amusement park with everybody
in your family. Why are they so scary for some people while for others it is just another adrenaline
rush? Roller Coasters are one of the most complicated rides to build and to actually ride. There are
some people who just have fun building something to have a quick adrenaline rush before going to
work. Roller coasters have some of the most interesting design and history; they have become one of
the world s famous rides at every amusement park. The first real roller coaster was built in 1878 on
Coney Island which was built by La Marcus Thompson. The roller coaster was made out of wood and
went down hill. To get to this roller coaster you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The roller coaster would go through some quick turns, some dips, and then the ride would be done.
Kids and parents would both have fun going on the ride together. The kiddie coaster was introduced
by Herb Schmeck. Most of the roller coaster wouldn t go any higher than forty feet up in the air. When
it came to the 1960 s amusement parks were fighting to see who had the best roller coasters. It had
turned into an arms race for amusement parks in the US. Over sixteen million dollars was used that
year to help create new parks and rides. Places like Six Flags had become very big, to the point where
they started to expand in 1963 which was huge. This meant they had three parks they were running in
the US. Wooden roller coasters also dominated the 60 s because they were brought to a whole new
level. They had become faster and you were able to create more effects with the railway. You were
able to drop a hundred feet down and go under another part of the track, without getting hurt. When it
came to the 1970 s nothing much happened except for what is known as the baby boom of amusement
parks. Amusement parks were popping up everywhere in the US. Six Flags had become an amusement
park chain for the country and other parks were popping up everywhere. The biggest part about this
boom was what type of roller coasters people were building. Steel roller coasters were popping up
everywhere in the country and they were nothing like anyone had seen before. They were faster than

The Importance Of Arts Education
Yes. Art is an important class. Everywhere you look you see artworks. Arts are everywhere today in
our life it became the important part of our daily life. Arts education helps students develop creativity,
visual learning, self confident, decision making, improved academic performance, and self motivation,
all of which are necessary to be successful in life. Arts education isn t something we add on after we
ve achieved other priorities, like raising test scores and getting kids into college, said the First Lady
Michelle Obama. Art education is important for future students. Art allows students to learn about
themselves, their culture, their community and the world around them. The creativity and imagination
of students will be pushed through the development of art. Art uses science, math, creativity, and
ideas. Art uses math because math involves shapes and angles and etc. and when people make an art
project with geometric shapes they use math to find what is this angle worth? Science needs art
because art helps people to understand what they are learning in science classes. Scientists always use
and draw models which includes art. Body(200 250 )
Creativity, visual learning, Improved academic performance
Arts improve our creative skills. Whether it is thinking, painting, cooking or dancing, we do art as if it
s our own. Creativity in art class helps allow students to show themselves better than English or math
class. Arts education is one of the most important

Machiavelli s Discourses On Livy
Niccolo Machiavelli was at his time and continues to be now days one of the most influential and
revolutionary authors known throughout the centuries. His writings, distinct from other renaissance
authors of the epoch, make emphasis on his personal views and his opinions on the political matters
taking place in Florence, Italy. Further discussed in the text are two of Machiavelli s most renowned
works, The Prince and the Discourses on Livy. Both books comprehend Machiavelli s understandings
of politics and explicit analysis on the various methods of governments with respect to principalities
and republics.
Machiavelli had many intentions in mind when he was first writing The Prince, among which where to

He argues that it if the natural prince possesses such extreme sagacity, he will always maintain himself
in the state unless deprived by a superior force. Nonetheless, if the natural prince has reasons enough
to irritate his subjects and causes himself to be hated, people will willingly trade him for another ruler
in the hopes that the new ruler will be better than the present one. Machiavelli says that once the
prince is replaced, the state is no longer to be considered a hereditary principality but be classified as a
mixed principality. As Machiavelli had at first noted, new and mixed principalities are indeed much
more difficult to maintain. For it is in new and mixed principalities that difficulties start to present
themselves. Machiavelli states that mutations to form mixed principalities, in which men change their
rulers gladly in the belief that they will better themselves by the change, arise from a natural difficulty.
Unfortunately for the people, problems for Machiavelli do not stop here, for he argues that it is an
infinite number of other wrongs that follow in the train of new conquests. When the new prince takes
over another prince s domain, he finds himself in a delicate situation with regard to the people who put
him in power and with those whom he injured by seizing that principality. He explains that the new
prince has for enemies all those whom he has injured by seizing that principality; and at the same time

As we all know that Video Game or Virtual Sport is one kind of art. Earlier this form of art was used
to only entertain people and it was a tool of entertainment and also for passing the leisure time.
However, now a days, many video games are not just a tool of entertainment, but also a tool to reform
a society. The mentioned games earlier in this paper are some of them. The video game developers of
these games didn t make these games for money alone, but also with a view to change the whole
society and create a better place to live all the individuals equally. These games convey a very
important message to the students, parents and teachers. It focuses on the very important issues of our
society. In some of the high schools, colleges of Netherlands and Switzerland, The course instructors
of History courses instructs their students to play Assassin s Creed games rather than only focuses on

The Pros And Cons Of Informed Consent
Informed consent is a critical process that places professionalism and legalism into practice in the
healthcare setting. It is an approval by the patient to receive care or treatment, while having full
knowledge of the benefits or risks that may accompany it, and is generally accompanied by the patient
s signature if consent is given (Black Chitty, 2014). Often times, informed consent is assumed to be
the physical document the patient signs, however, it is actually the legal practice that provides an
opportunity for the patient to gain a complete understanding of the procedure before deciding to
consent to it or not (Black Chitty, 2014). There are three main requirements of informed consent,
which include: it must be given voluntarily, it must be given to a person who has the capability to
understand, and it has to include adequate information necessary for the patient to formulate a
decision (Black Chitty, 2014). Informed consent involves a direct communication process between the
physician and the patient regarding specific details of treatment. According to Black and Chitty
(2014), it should include information regarding benefits, risks, potential side effects, costs, and
alternative treatments. In order to be considered legally acceptable, informed consent must be
complete, competent, and voluntary; each of these conditions must be evaluated for legal purposes
(Black Chitty, 2014). Along with the inclusion of specific criteria, informed consent must be

Women In The Early Renaissance
Were Women Given the Chance to Represent Themselves in the Early Renaissance?
Kaylynn Sims
The Renaissance was a large resurgence and what one could consider reboot of culture. During the
Renaissance, the amount of art and culture flourished. At the center of it all, was Florence. To some,
Florence was the birthplace for the Renaissance. Flourishing markets, painters, architects, poets, and
especially humanists, began their origins in the city and around it. As with most places and time
periods in history, the Renaissance was full of economic discrepancies that caused the creation of class
and the difference in political power. Or in other words: Those with the most money had the most
power. To follow suit with most of history, women had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other representations of art, like sculpture and painting were quite popular as well. Rarely were
women the artists of such works, but male artists would often paint the women that they were
surrounded by and usually for the occasion of their weddings in the noble class (Kaborycha, 94 and
95). Depictions of the non elite and servant women were rare, but can be found in Renaissance art. For
example, a non elite, but non servant woman is depicted in a Piero della Francesca painting, titled
Madonna del Parto. She is shown as extremely pregnant, and ready to give birth to her child, because
of the facial expression that is depicted on her face. The woman looks very uncomfortable and tired.
This painting is representative of the role that women primarily took in the Renaissance. Women were
the heir producers. More often than not, it was hoped that the child women were having was a boy, so
that it could pass on the family name (Discussion, February 10). And if the women were to give birth
to a girl, families continued to have children until there was at least one boy. This left some women
pregnant for the majority of their lives. Francesca s painting supports the ideal that Alberti proposed in
Family and Fortune. Most women had children and tended to those children as well as their domestic

Current Account Deficit, he explained that economic crisis has its background way back a decade ago,
as the developing countries had modest trade and account deficit of which was financed by borrowing
from the rest of the world in order to invest more than save, bringing about financial crisis i.e. they
will be rich in future by constructing infrastructures but face recession in present.
Housing prices was another contributing cause to the recession. In the decade going towards 2006,
housing prices spiraled up by more than 25% due to high demand, decline in lending standards, and
low interest rates in the 2000s. Between 2000 and 2006 large number of borrowers took out mortgages
as they were lured by the prevailing favorable rates. This had the effect of fetching all and sundry
including those individuals with bad credit records. The Federal Reserve began to raise fed funds thus
interest rates cropped from 1.25% to 5.25% a reasonable level to fight the inflation level as well as
overall loans between banks. Expensive repayment on loan had the effect of softening housing
markets since borrowing was costly.
According to Bernanke, by August 2007, nearly 16% of mortgages were in default, (qtd. In Jones 6)
this explains the advancement in the problem due to low housing prices that led to defaults and further
lowered housing prices even further in a vicious cycle. In addition,

The parents of Cathy Linton were Catherine Earnshaw and Edgar Linton. Catherine grew up with a
young orphan boy named Heathcliff. Catherine and Heathcliff were inseparable as children, bonded
by the loss of her father figure and growing up in a household lacking warmth. As time progressed
Catherine grew to be a beautiful young girl and Heathcliff declines to a mistreated young boy enslaved
by forced fealty. Catherine is inclined to marry a young man named Edgar Linton however she
believes she loves Heathcliff. In the text she states I ve no more business to marry Edgar Linton than I

Essay Desertification And Deforestation
Desertification And Deforestation
The Amazon Rainforest is probably the most important region that is threatened by deforestation. With
over four million squared kilometers it is roughly the size of the United States. The Amazon spreads
across nine South American Countries and contains one fifth of the Worlds fresh water and one third
of the known living species. The land is home to hundreds of indigenous groups and is considered by
many to be the lungs of the planet .
Most of the Amazon is still pristine, but the region is being destroyed at an alarming rate. Over 8
million acres of the rainforest are lost every year. Between 1978 to 1996, 12.5 percent of the
irreplacable rainforest was destroyed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The logging industries punch new roads into pristine forests, invade indigenous lands, parks and
preserves, and murder those who stand in their way. Brazil does not have the means to fully regulate
the logging industries however, the Asain logging companies were fined over one million dollars for
illegal logging last year. The loggers have cut more than 3,000 miles of roads into the intact forest
regions.
The Rainforest Action Network (RAN) has taken action against these loggiing industries. Their
Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and letter writing campaign
has led the Brazilian National Congress to put mahagony logging on hold for the next two years. Also,
President Cardoso has introduced a measure to stop deforestation as a result of farming and ranching .
This would limit clearing to twenty percent rather than fifty. RAN has also convinced thousands of
U.S. architects, builders and lumber yards to stop seling and using old growth redwood. The are now
calling upon the U.S. to stop all imports of Mahagony.
The biggest threat to the Amazon Basin are the Mega Projects . The goal of these projects are to create
new economic and geographical links between nations. The plan is to criss cross the region with
highways and waterways to access the Amazon s natural resources for commercial trade. These
projects are already underway. The Northern Border Highway is a mega project that will span

Donnie Trumpet s The Social Experiment
On May 28th, shortly before midnight, a rare treasure was released to the public courtesy of Donnie
Trumpet The Social Experiment. Users of iTunes everywhere (including myself) woke up on May
29th, a Friday, to find a free download of Surf. the highly anticipated debut album of The Social
Experiment. The Social Experiment is a band that makes music that is hard to categorize. Ranging
from hip hop to Jazz, to R B, it s tricky to put a label on this band s sound other than it just feels good.
Fronted by wildly popular independent artist, Chance the Rapper, the band consists of Donnie

They could have made thousands by selling the album on iTunes, physical copies, vinyls etc. And plus
they are already fronted by a popular rapper so they wouldn t have a problem with being found. But
the answer is simple, perhaps too simple but refreshing. And that s because with Surf, they weren t
looking for money. As you may remember, Chance announced the album back late last fall and said
that it would be released before the end of 2014. Some may have been irritated at Chance for not
keeping his word, but those people are so used to rappers that are signed to labels issuing a deadline to
maximize profits. Chance The Rapper is not one of those. Chance The Rapper is a free rapper. Chance
took those 6 months to make the music that him and his friends were creating perfect. And not perfect
for a record label, perfect for themselves. Which is what every artist should be doing. The popular
song Wanna Be Cool perfectly deciphers this. It is about not wanting to be cool, but wanting to be
yourself. Which (cheesy line approaching) is the coolest fucking thing you can be. In the high school
of hip hop. There are many rappers out there that make music that isn t necessarily them. But what
will maximize profits. Do you think Big Sean wrote I Don t Fuck With You because it truly spoke

School Tryout Essay
There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive sports
teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact that an
incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in athletics without
trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that tryouts are a
traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result as an emotional
breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a competitive sport
team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try harder, and learn life
lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is why
schools need to permit tryouts.
Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too
many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s
too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve.
(Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete)
should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion.
Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain
sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other
athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during
practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the
appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular
game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can
achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. Additionally,
Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz, 2015). This statement shows that

Florida’s Literacy Problem Essay
Florida s Literacy Problem
Despite numerous literacy promoting programs all over the state of Florida, literacy still remains a
problem for this state. People just don t seem to want to waste their precious free time staring at words
on a piece of paper, but would rather stare at moving pictures on a screen. Obviously this is a problem,
as Florida s FCAT scores are less then perfect when compared to the scores of the rest of the nation.
Something needs to be done to get Florida reading.
It may be unfair to attribute all of Florida s reading problems to television. Not everyone in Florida
has cable or even owns a TV. Many poor children have no permanent home and therefore do not have
the necessary conditions to learn to read as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third grade is the last year of education that students are taught to read. In 2002, forty two percent to
third graders in Polk County failed the reading portion of the FCAT. This very clearly shows that most
of Florida s, or at least Polk County s reading problems begin in elementary school. The blame for this
can go to schools that have sub par reading programs. It can alternatively be attributed to parents who
don t take the time to read with their children or hire tutors to help them when they need it. Most
likely both are at blame, but only the schools seem to be putting forth an effort for changes. Florida s
parents need to understand that they are very capable of teaching their children to read.
Summer reading programs can help students struggling with literacy tremendously. When students
read over the summer they keep their reading skills sharp instead of having to relearn them as soon as
school starts again in the fall, which can be a big hindrance on their studies. The summer is also prime
time for parents to hire tutors when their services are needed. Some teenagers will even tutor for free
in the interest of obtaining service hours for scholarships. Parents should also make time over the
summer to help their children themselves if they are having problems with reading. Having the
support of parents can make all the difference in a child s motivation to learn.

Traction Alopecia In Children
Children are just as susceptible to traction alopecia as adults are. The causes of traction alopecia in
children are similar to grown ups. Hairstyles such as pigtails, cornrows and braiding the hair can cause
hair loss in kids. When a child s hair is repeatedly styled tightly, over a period of time hair follicles
become damaged and incapable of producing healthy hairs. The hair follicle may become so damaged
that it stops producing hairs altogether. Hair loss occurs in the areas of the scalp that are pulled the
most, usually at the front hair line, the nape of the neck and crown.
Traction alopecia in children can be treated in a similar fashion to the way it is treated in adults. In fact
children have a much better chance of regrowing hair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to use a lubricating agent such as oil to eliminate any friction which may cause further damage to the

and can also double up as deep conditioning hair treatments.
Following these rules will ensure more hair doesn t fall out because of the excessive force applied to
the hair follicles and that further harm isn t caused to the follicles by the use of inappropriate hair
products. Stick with gentle products and stimulate hair growth by increasing scalp circulation through
regular massages to give the hair follicles a chance to heal themselves and start producing healthy new

Nonconformity In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead

nonconformity, and the individual pursuit of happiness. Roark s motives are simply to seek his own

Doing this promotes his well being because facing situations in this manner helps him gain an

a twisted sense of selflessness designed to turn them into drones feeding off the speculation of others.
While talking to his niece, Toohey declares that consciously focusing on one s own emotions makes a

ignoring free thought requires that one ignore the truth. Roark, on the other hand, believes that one

The Factors And Negative Consequences Of Police Porruption
Police corruption has negative consequences on the society, thus, it is important to investigate the
factors that cause police corruption. The present essay aims to explore the factors that cause police
corruption and its intervention. Police corruption is believed to be an organisational deviance rather
than an individual misbehaviour. Police officers are considered clean when they join the police
organisation and their deviant behaviours might be induced by police culture. The employment of
slack management with low control and norms of secrecy of police corruption in police organisations

Example Of A Christian Research Paper
A Christian is a person who adheres to Christianity, an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion based on the
life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christian derives from the Koine Greek word Christós, a translation
of the Biblical Hebrew term mashiach.
There are diverse interpretations of Christianity which sometimes conflict. However, Whatever else
they might disagree about, Christians are at least united in believing that Jesus has a unique
significance. It is also used as a label to identify people who associate with the cultural aspects of
Christianity, irrespective of personal religious beliefs or practices.
According to a 2011 Pew Research Center survey, there were 2.2 billion Christians around the world
in 2010, up from about 600 million in 1910. According to 100 Years of Nobel Prizes, a review of
Nobel prizes awarded between 1901 and 2000 reveals that of Nobel Prizes laureates identified
Christianity in its various forms as their religious preference.
Etymology
The Greek word, meaning follower of Christ , comes from, meaning anointed one , with an adjectival
ending borrowed from Latin to denote adhering to, or even belonging to, as in slave ownership. In the
Greek Septuagint, christos was used to translate the Hebrew ‫יַח‬ ‫ִׁש‬‫ָמ‬, meaning anointed. In other
European languages, equivalent words to Christian are likewise derived from the Greek, such as
Chrétien in French and Cristiano in Spanish.

The Era Of The 19th Century
Europe faced an era of revolutions at the wake of the nineteenth century. Long standing empires,
which had traditionally controlled most of the world including the Spanish, Chinese, French, and Holy
Roman Empires , collapsed at the beginning of the century, allowing the British Empire to rise to
power and establish dominance over a fifth of the Earth s surface. This political revolution was
coupled with the industrial revolution. New manufacturing processes called for large industrial
factories to replace domestic production. Technological gains were made in textile manufacturing,
steam power, and iron making. The standard of living and literacy rates increased due to new advances
in technology and industrial printing. The nineteenth century, with the invention of the microscope,
became a period of scientific discoveries and debate. This era of scientific upheaval was fueled by the
challenges to Genesis and the Scala Naturae and the emergence of secularism. Naturalists focused on
macrobiological concepts, such as Lamarck and Cuvier who debated the fixity (or lack there of) of
species, as well as microbiological concepts, such as Schleiden and Schwann and the development of
the Cell Theory.

disease. As all theories at the time, Pasteur s work faced significant contention from his

Pain During Pregnancy
Leg Pain during Pregnancy: Can it Be Serious?
Experiencing leg pain during pregnancy is normal. Major leg pain may indicate a more serious
medical condition. Here are five common causes of leg pain during pregnancy.
Sciatica
One of the most common causes of leg pain during pregnancy is sciatica. This can occur because of
weight gain, a heavy belly pulling on the back and the uterus pressuring the sciatic nerve. Sometimes
the baby s head will directly rest on the nerve itself. The sciatic nerve starts at the lower back and runs
down the back of each leg to the feet. This causes pain in the lumbar area and back of the legs. Leg

Edema occurs because the uterus pressures certain veins, which slow the blood circulation of the legs.
This results in swollen feet, ankles and legs. Edema typically occurs during the third trimester. While

Varicose veins tend to develop alongside edema. http://www.ivein.com/ Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Venous thrombosis is when a blood clot forms in a vein. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs in a vein
far below the surface of the skin. DTV typically appears in the legs or pelvis. Symptoms of DVT
include pain or swelling in the leg, red skin and abnormally large veins. An untreated blood clot is a
serious condition that can result in a pulmonary embolism (PE). This is when the blood clot becomes
stuck in a lung. This life threatening condition can cause breathing difficulty, chest pain and ultimately
physical collapse.
Uterine Fibroids

Key Ideas Of Freud s Psychodynamic Theory
1) What key ideas of Freud s psychodynamic theory of the mind have interested anthropologists?
Freud s psychoanalytic theory allows anthropologists to study the intrapsychic reasons behind cultural
concepts such as rituals, lineage patterns and specific behaviours. Certain behaviours and emotions
such as conflict, sexual desire or mental disorders are considered universal, but they are manifested
and treated differently, determined by cultural variation. Anthropologists make use of certain crucial
concepts of Freud s theory to explain the way culture affects the expression of these behaviours
(Keesing Strathern, 1997:58,60).
One of Freud s most relevant theories is his Theory of Psychosexual Development which seeks to

The Tallensi of Ghana have very complex succession rituals which are manifestations of internal

When multiple actors work as a team, it is called a performance team. Performance teams, work
together, to create and preserve front stage performances (Gidden, 1991) The back stage is a
comfortable setting for actors to vent feelings and styles of behavior they keep in check when on the
front stage. (Gidden, 1991) Saving face which is another term created by Erving Goffman is used to
describe when individuals feel embarrassed, and they try to maintain their orderliness by
acknowledging that you have done wrong. The next concept that will be applying to my observation is
cultural objects. The term cultural object is an object or symbol that has multiple meanings; in society
we negotiated around these objects for power purposes. The next term that I will be focusing on in
civil inattention which was created by Erving Goffman, is acknowledging a human being that is in
close proximity, without creating conversation with them and not invading their personal space.
Breeching civil inattention is the breaking of civil inattention. This is interacting that you may or may
not know. Breeching civil inattention commonly happens when males approach female in public
spaces which leads to the concept street remarks. The next concepts that I will be talking about is
public and personal distance. Public distance is beyond twelve feet, preserved by those who
performing to watch a audience. (Gidden, 211). Personal space is from one and half to four feet, is the

Comparison Of Jane Austen s Sense And Sensibility
On December 16, 1775, Jane Austen was born in Steventon, Hampshire, England. She was born into a
middle class family. Her father was Reverend George Austen, a member of the clergy, and her mother
was Cassandra Leigh who came from a higher social rank. Jane was the second daughter of a family
of eight, and she was closest to the eldest sister Cassandra. From this information alone, there is a
pattern present in Jane s work. She tends to write romance fiction novels about middle class England.
Her characters in Sense and Sensibility are generally from the middle class, and the main characters
are females and siblings. Likewise, the eldest sister has amiable traits, and the younger sibling admires
her as Jane views her eldest sister in real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inheritance is a very important topic in Sense and Sensibility since Jane stresses how Mr. John
Dashwood acquires all of Mr. Dashwood s money after his death while his sisters get nothing. Jane s
cousin, Elizabeth Hancock, married a French aristocrat by the name of Jean Capotte. In Sense and
Sensibility, marriage is a highly relevant factor in society, for marriage determines stability and
wealth. Hence, Willoughby marries Miss Grey rather than Marianne, the woman he loves, due to Miss
Grey s fortune. Meanwhile, Mrs. Ferrars abandons her son, Edward Ferrars, after he marries a woman
without fortune. Although Jane almost married Harris Big Wither, Jane and Cassandra both remained
unmarried. Additionally, there are aspects of Jane s life that may have contributed to her career as a
writer. Anne Lefroy was an important friend of Jane Austen. Also known as Madam Lefroy, she was a
writer, fond of literature, and kind to the poor (Kelly). Subsequently, she encouraged [Jane s]
intellectual development and may have influenced Jane s occupation as a writer (Kelly). Within the
Austen household, reading was a common way to pass the time, so one family member would read
aloud to the rest. A person s ability to read aloud was considered a valuable skill. In the same way,
Jane s characters in Sense and Sensibility compare and judge each other by skill set, which includes
one s ability to read with passion and style. The characters may also judge

Failure Of The Shlieffen Moltke Plan
The Schlieffen Moltke Plan; which was originally drawn up by Alfred von Schlieffen and reshaped by
Helmuth von Moltke the Younger, failed to achieve its objectives in September 1914 was due to the
changes of the original Schlieffen Plan implemented by Moltke the Younger, and his poor leadership
shown throughout the execution of the plan The objective of the Schlieffen Moltke plan; which was a
planned offensive assault by the German Empire, was to advance through Belgium and enter France
through the Northern border. Once Belgium was defeated, the Germans wished to quickly overtake the
French and move quickly to fight the Russians before they could mobilize. However, the plan turned
into a major disaster due to the alterations that Moltke made before the Schlieffen Moltke Plan s
execution, as well as the revisions made during the offensive. His changes allowed the Allies to
prepare for this assault, and counter the attack. An issue that Moltke and the German army
encountered was that the Belgian army would not allow them to march through without resistance.
Moltke attempted to persuade the Belgian King Albert to grant the German army access through their
country prior to the invasion. The request, however, failed to succeed as the Belgian King Albert
declined, and did not allow the Germans to flow freely through their country. This led to a pre emptive
attack on neutral Belgium, which effectively brought Great Britain into the war. The resistance that the
Belgian s showed in

Importance Of Animals In Zoos
The recent incident which lead to the death of a gorilla named Harambe has sparked controversy that
scrutinize the mere existence of zoos. A infant got into the cage of Harabe; the gorilla posed a threat to
the life of the infant and was shot. This raised many questions because some civilians recalled the
gorilla protecting the infant. This also enraged many people because this gorilla s life could have been
saved if he was not in captivity in the first place. In addition, it brought up the major question as to
where or not zoos still serve a purpose in today s society. This topic is controversial because it
concerns fundamental moral and economic questions about animals in captivity. People have argued
both sides of the argument and there are valid reasons for both. Although one may argue that animals
should be kept in zoos because they protect endangered species and the animals are in a safe and
caring environment, it is evident that zoos should not exist because the animal s mental health is at
risk, there are public and animal safety concerns, the animals are wrongly removed from their natural
habitat, and the animals are mistreated and abused. One major reason why animals should not be kept
in zoos is because it is bad for their mental health. According to a Current Events article, Zoos are like
prisons and zoos drive many animals crazy by confining them ( Are Zoos Bad News ). This
demonstrates that zoos are not good for animals mental health because they are

Thematic Groupings of Essays
Thematic Groupings of Essays The three essays selected have several key traits in common. Among
the traits shared, each piece is written by a woman. Each essay expresses both a single aspect and the
general experience of being a woman in a western patriarchal society. Additionally, each piece of
writing is specifically divided into sections by theme, by style, and sometimes by formatting. This
essay will examine the essays as a group and specifically take note of the divisions within each essay.
How a writer divides her work can indicate the writer s perspective, sensibility, or strategy of
communication. In their own ways, each author is writing about the lack of equality for women in
society. The authors vary their methods of expression. Stanton is direct and abrupt. Cisneros is more
lyrical and descriptive. Brady uses humor, irony, and wit to make her points. The paper will contend
that the pieces of writing are, in their unique ways, divided, and will illustrate those divisions as an
intentional method of grouping by theme. Stanton begins with a section entitled Declaration of
Sentiments. (Stanton, Declaration of Sentiments and Resolution, Seneca Falls Convention 1848, Page
581) In her first section, she quotes the Declaration of Independence and makes small modifications
that support her assertions. She begins by appealing to every American s sense of national pride and
shared national history. The remainder of this section is a concise list of the ways in

Reflection On Civic Mirror
Civic Mirror Final Reflection Assignment 1) After playing Civic Mirror for three years, I learned
lessons that I never would have imagined of learning in grade 10 civics. The most important thing I
discovered was the significance of participating and posessing initiative in order to be a successful
member of society. During the first year, I did not make many trades as I had little money, was too
nervous to raise my concerns in Town Hall and did not find it important to sue anyone in National
Court. Along with preventing me from obtaining a high score, not participating restricted me from
enjoying myself in Civic Mirror like others did. However, once I increased my participation and took
the initiative to trade, I found that my grade in Civic Mirror increased, I looked forward to come to
class and I spoke with people whom I had never talked to before. Secondly, Civic Mirror helped me
realize the necessity of having a source of income in order to be a prosperous citizen. During the
auction, I did not buy a hex as I had very little money and could not afford it. Although the money I
had originally been given sufficed me for the first year, the lack of money made it very difficult to
fulfill my family s needs for the next two years. This experience allowed me to understand that when I
grow up and become a self sufficient member of society, it is extremely important that I have a secure
source of income. Along with helping me fulfill my needs, the money that I

The Bet By Anton Chekhov
A short story s purpose is to introduce an idea or moral to the reader. In many cases the reader can
understand the thesis, but there will be times where the reader is uncertain. The reason for this is
because the short story s moral is profound ironically. Ultimately the reader is able to relate to him or
herself in the short story various ways. Likewise the use of irony in, The Bet by Anton Chekhov,
illustrates the characters and their opposing speculations that demonstrate the importance of human
life and confinement. Relating to the thesis of the short story, there are three main points that irony
plays a key role on. To begin with, there are the two main character s roles that guide the reader
though both perspectives of their conflicts. There are also main points in their dialect and involvement
that Chekhov used to help the reader understand the character s ironic speculations.
The characters from the short story, through the flashback of the banker, show his most successful
years and the young lawyer both in a dilemma. Eventually the dilemma came in conclusion to Fifteen?
Done! cried the banker. Gentlemen, I stake two millions! (Chekhov, Anton). This seems usual for a bet
with the lawyer and the banker. The average individual, when thinking of a banker, presume that they
are people that save money and not put it in risk of it all token away. Likewise in The Bet, within the
fifteen years, the banker was Desperate and started gambling on the Stock Exchange

Explain The Growth Of Suburbs In The 50 s
The growth of suburbs in the 50 s
The early Suburbs of London, and in addition a few in the United States, were constructed around the
partition of diverse monetary classes. Amid the eighteenth century, rich entrepreneurs in London
started to utilize landholdings around Westminster as an approach to evade the lower classes inside
urban zones. After a century, the same happened in the United States around the urban areas of New
York, Philadelphia, and Boston. Rural areas, for example, these, in view of class detachment, can best
be portrayed as common enclaves. Here the rich could build up groups that mirrored their own
particular qualities and convictions. After World War II finished, numerous Americans were avid to

Somewhere around 1945 and 1960, the gross national item dramatically multiplied, developing from
$200 billion to more than $500 billion. A lot of this increment originated from government spending:
The development of interstate expressways and schools, the circulation of veterans advantages and
above all the increment in military spending on merchandise like planes and new advances like PCs
all added to the decade s financial development. Rates of unemployment and swelling were low, and
wages were high. White collar class individuals had more cash to invest than any energy in recent
memory and, on the grounds that the assortment and accessibility of buyer products extended
alongside the economy, they likewise had more things to purchase. The time of increased birth rates
and the rural blast went as an inseparable unit. When World War II finished, engineers, for example,
William Levitt started to purchase arrive on the edges of urban communities and utilization large scale
manufacturing systems to manufacture unassuming, cheap tract houses there. The G.I. Bill sponsored
ease contracts for returning troopers, which implied that it was frequently less expensive to purchase

We shall overcome someday, Oh, deep in my heart I do believe, We shall overcome someday. These
lyrics were spoken by many but none were as influential as Joan Baez. She used her language of
freedom, hope, and liberty to get her voice heard and take a stand on civil rights. Her language was
spoken by many, but not the way she did it. Her language was music. Joan Baez was born on January
9, 1941 in Staten Island, New York City, NY. She first introduced herself to the music business in
1959 performing at the Newport Folk Festival. There she introduced herself as an American Folk

Mistreatment And Vandalizing In San Jose
Today in our community the public parks that we have around some of the parks are being mistreated
in being vandalising and not trying to keep it clean for the residents that in the nearby neighborhood
and communities. The thing that I discovered was that according San Jose Mercury News that the city
needs the money from residents that live in the city of San Jose to fix up those parks that are being
mistreated by some of the residents. Me growing up in the Eastside part of the city of San Jose some

  • 2. Classifying Unknown Bacterial Organisms The identification of bacteria is a fundamental objective of microbiologists. It is essential to distinguish specific bacterial properties to understand the environment, physiology and disease. As new bacterial species emerge and existing ones evolve into different strains, it is imperative that microbiologists continue to isolate bacteria from the field, identify their findings and research newly discovered forms. Their discoveries can then be used to evaluate the types of microbial life that may be found in certain environments and the corresponding benefits or risks to those that dwell in those areas. When studying unknown bacterial organisms, microbiologists use a wide variety of techniques to observe the organism s traits and classify it. Many genotypic and phenotypic methods exist that aid in the identification of known bacteria, the characterization of unknown bacteria, as well as the comparison between new findings and ... • 3. Difficulties Of Defining Terrorism Has Changed Our Lives Difficulties of Defining Terrorism Christine King CRJ440 Dr. Alanna Smith July 12, 2015 Abstract Terrorism has been around for hundreds of years and through the years the definition of terrorism has changed. While the United States knew of terrorism it wasn t a main stream issue for Americans, these types of activities happened in other countries, not ours. Unfortunately that is not true, which we found that terrorism can and did reach our shores and change our lives, this unfortunate realization took place on September 11, 2001. Of course this was not the first terrorist activity that occurred on American soil, it is just the one that slapped American s in the face telling us that American was not untouchable , we are just as vulnerable as other countries. Defining terrorism has been an issue for many years, the different branches of the federal government cannot even agree on a definition of what terrorism is let alone different countries. To back up the above I have listed some of the different definitions from different branches of the federal government and from other countries (White, J. 2014). The Intelligence Community is guided by the definition of terrorism contained in Title 22 of the US Code, Section 2656f(d): (www.cia.gov) o The term terrorism means premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents. o The term international terrorism means terrorism involving the ... • 4. The Cherokee Indians Introduction: Have you ever heard of the Cherokee Indians? Sure you have! Just as a reminder, they are the biggest tribe, and most known of out of all the Indian tribes there has ever been in the southeast. They are very important to American History and helped shaped us to be the Americans we are today, which is clearly what I ll be explaining in this paper. Throughout the paper, I ll tell you everything you need to know about the Cherokee Indians and continue to relate to the thesis. What was their shelter like? To start off, most people figure that the Cherokee Indians lived in tee pees, but they did not. They lived in homes built out of mud and other materials around. By the 1700s they lived in cozy log cabins that they had built themselves. Although most of them lived in cabins, a tiny population lived in clapboard houses. Other than the help from Sweden, the log cabins you and me see in the Untied States of America in our daily life s originated from the Cherokee Indians! Isn t that cool?! Where were they located? The Cherokee Indians were mainly know for living in the southeastern part of the United States of America. But they had moved around several different areas before they discovered their so thought forever home. They lived there until they were forced to leave to Oklahoma during the trail of tears. Lots of us have heard of the Smokey Mountains, and the Smokey Mountains is where the Cherokee Indians were famous for living at. Now the area they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. John Bowlby Attachment Theory John Bowlby, a British psychiatrist, known for his work with the attachment theory and joint work with Mary Ainsworth, an American Canadian psychologist. His theory: the infant and young child should experience a warm, intimate, and continuous relationship with his mother (or permanent mother substitute) in which both find satisfaction and enjoyment. John Bowlby believed just like Freud, that mental health as well as behavioral issues could be traced and attributed back to the child s early ages. Before Mary Ainsworth would come on scene, John Bowlby enlisted the help of James Robertson. The two would spend two years observing hospitalized and institutionalized children who had been separated from their parents. James Robertson left after he could no longer go on observing and being uninvolved, he needed to do something for the children that he had been observing. In the 1930 s, John Bowlby worked as a Child psychiatrist at the Guidance Clinic in London where he treated many emotionally disturbed children. He was led to think about the importance of an infant or child s relationship with their mother and their social, emotional and cognitive development. Here is where he would form his attachment theory that would contradict the original theory of behavioral theory . The thought behind the original theory would be that the infant is close to the mother because she has fed the child. Come 1950, Mary Ainsworth arrives and it is her duty to analyze Robertson s ... • 6. A Brief Note On Climate Justice And Accountability Climate Justice and Accountability One portion of the Paris Agreement that will be critical to uphold is the $100 billion pledge from developed countries to developing countries to combat the effects of climate change. Specifically, this pledge would provide compensation for the millions of people a year who are displaced from their homes because of natural disasters, the overwhelming majority being from developing countries. The promise will increase to $600 billion by 2025 but does little to counter the estimated $1.7 trillion price tag in economic damage to developing countries in the form of droughts, floods, hurricanes, and agricultural loss. The pledge also does not indicate how funds would be distributed and whether or not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kivalina citizens sought to recover monetary damages of up to $400 million for the cost of relocating the entire village as a result of what they describe as the defendants past and ongoing contributions to global warming (Complaint For Damages). Unfortunately, the court declined to hear the case because of indistinct accountability . Many indigenous communities have taken action against impending climate change on their own. The Quinault Indian Nation, located at the mouth of the Quinault River on the outer coast of Washington s Olympic Peninsula, has developed a $60 million plan to move the community, raising awareness through the nonprofit First Stewards. The Quinault Nation developed a climate adaptation and mitigation strategy to adapt to rising sea levels and warming water and hopes to collaborate across agencies to bring awareness to their situation. Both examples illustrate the unique challenges climate change creates for indigenous people and traditional ways of life. As sovereign nations, these indigenous communities have the power to adopt or ratify climate agreements without the approval of the United States which would alter the protections afforded to them. There is also the potential that members would be considered refugees rather than internally displaced persons, if they are forced out of traditional tribe borders. Despite the fact that communities across the world have been effected by human caused climate change, there is little ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not known how life came to be on the earth, but it is proven that it has evolved over time, and life is unified by a common ancestor. In the 1920s, a hypothesis was created by scientists Alexander Oparin and J.B.S. Haldane, that predicted that the first life forms were formed in an acidic primordial sea. Oparin believed that a string of of chemical reactions within an aquatic environment had led to the formation of coacervates. Coacervates are aggregates of organic polymers that have life like characteristics, but are not alive. When Oparin created coacervates, he used a couple different solutions of macromolecules to form these aggregates, and he discovered that the coacervates had a selectively permeable membrane. It is thought that coacervates may have been one of the first pieces in the origin of life on Earth. This lab uses a carbohydrate, gum arabic, and a protein, gelatin to create coacervates. As we carry out the procedures to create the coacervates, we will observe how coacervates are formed and what characteristics they share with life. Through doing this, we will gain better understanding of the Oparin Haldane hypothesis and the possible explanation of how life was formed on Earth. ( Carolina™ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are some people who just have fun building something to have a quick adrenaline rush before going to work. Roller coasters have some of the most interesting design and history; they have become one of the world s famous rides at every amusement park. When it came to the 1960 s amusement parks were fighting to see who had the best roller coasters. It had turned into an arms race for amusement parks in the US. Over sixteen million dollars was used that year to help create new parks and rides. Places like Six Flags had become very big, to the point where they started to expand in 1963 which was huge. This meant they had three parks they were running in the US. Wooden roller coasters also dominated the 60 s because they were brought to a whole new level. They had become faster and you were able to create more effects with the railway. You were able to drop a hundred feet down and go under another part of the track, without getting hurt. When it came to the 1970 s nothing much happened except for what is known as the baby boom of amusement parks. Amusement parks were popping up everywhere in the US. His writings, distinct from other renaissance authors of the epoch, make emphasis on his personal views and his opinions on the political matters taking place in Florence, Italy. Further discussed in the text are two of Machiavelli s most renowned works, The Prince and the Discourses on Livy. He argues that it if the natural prince possesses such extreme sagacity, he will always maintain himself in the state unless deprived by a superior force. Nonetheless, if the natural prince has reasons enough to irritate his subjects and causes himself to be hated, people will willingly trade him for another ruler in the hopes that the new ruler will be better than the present one. Machiavelli says that once the prince is replaced, the state is no longer to be considered a hereditary principality but be classified as a mixed principality. As Machiavelli had at first noted, new and mixed principalities are indeed much more difficult to maintain. For it is in new and mixed principalities that difficulties start to present themselves. Machiavelli states that mutations to form mixed principalities, in which men change their rulers gladly in the belief that they will better themselves by the change, arise from a natural difficulty. Unfortunately for the people, problems for Machiavelli do not stop here, for he argues that it is an infinite number of other wrongs that follow in the train of new conquests. When the new prince takes over another prince s domain, he finds himself in a delicate situation with regard to the people who put him in power and with those whom he injured by seizing that principality. • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Informed Consent Informed consent is a critical process that places professionalism and legalism into practice in the healthcare setting. It is an approval by the patient to receive care or treatment, while having full knowledge of the benefits or risks that may accompany it, and is generally accompanied by the patient s signature if consent is given (Black Chitty, 2014). Often times, informed consent is assumed to be the physical document the patient signs, however, it is actually the legal practice that provides an opportunity for the patient to gain a complete understanding of the procedure before deciding to consent to it or not (Black Chitty, 2014). There are three main requirements of informed consent, which include: it must be given voluntarily, it must be given to a person who has the capability to understand, and it has to include adequate information necessary for the patient to formulate a decision (Black Chitty, 2014). Informed consent involves a direct communication process between the physician and the patient regarding specific details of treatment. According to Black and Chitty (2014), it should include information regarding benefits, risks, potential side effects, costs, and alternative treatments. In order to be considered legally acceptable, informed consent must be complete, competent, and voluntary; each of these conditions must be evaluated for legal purposes (Black Chitty, 2014). Depictions of the non elite and servant women were rare, but can be found in Renaissance art. For example, a non elite, but non servant woman is depicted in a Piero della Francesca painting, titled Madonna del Parto. She is shown as extremely pregnant, and ready to give birth to her child, because of the facial expression that is depicted on her face. The woman looks very uncomfortable and tired. This painting is representative of the role that women primarily took in the Renaissance. Women were the heir producers. More often than not, it was hoped that the child women were having was a boy, so that it could pass on the family name (Discussion, February 10). And if the women were to give birth to a girl, families continued to have children until there was at least one boy. This left some women pregnant for the majority of their lives. Francesca s painting supports the ideal that Alberti proposed in Family and Fortune. Most women had children and tended to those children as well as their domestic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Housing prices was another contributing cause to the recession. In the decade going towards 2006, housing prices spiraled up by more than 25% due to high demand, decline in lending standards, and low interest rates in the 2000s. Between 2000 and 2006 large number of borrowers took out mortgages as they were lured by the prevailing favorable rates. This had the effect of fetching all and sundry including those individuals with bad credit records. The Federal Reserve began to raise fed funds thus interest rates cropped from 1.25% to 5.25% a reasonable level to fight the inflation level as well as overall loans between banks. Expensive repayment on loan had the effect of softening housing markets since borrowing was costly. According to Bernanke, by August 2007, nearly 16% of mortgages were in default, (qtd. This is why schools need to permit tryouts. Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve. (Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete) should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. This very clearly shows that most of Florida s, or at least Polk County s reading problems begin in elementary school. The blame for this can go to schools that have sub par reading programs. It can alternatively be attributed to parents who don t take the time to read with their children or hire tutors to help them when they need it. Most likely both are at blame, but only the schools seem to be putting forth an effort for changes. Florida s parents need to understand that they are very capable of teaching their children to read. Summer reading programs can help students struggling with literacy tremendously. Certain behaviours and emotions such as conflict, sexual desire or mental disorders are considered universal, but they are manifested and treated differently, determined by cultural variation. Once Belgium was defeated, the Germans wished to quickly overtake the French and move quickly to fight the Russians before they could mobilize. However, the plan turned into a major disaster due to the alterations that Moltke made before the Schlieffen Moltke Plan s execution, as well as the revisions made during the offensive. His changes allowed the Allies to prepare for this assault, and counter the attack. An issue that Moltke and the German army encountered was that the Belgian army would not allow them to march through without resistance. Moltke attempted to persuade the Belgian King Albert to grant the German army access through their country prior to the invasion. The request, however, failed to succeed as the Belgian King Albert declined, and did not allow the Germans to flow freely through their country. This led to a pre emptive attack on neutral Belgium, which effectively brought Great Britain into the war. The resistance that the Belgian s showed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Importance Of Animals In Zoos The recent incident which lead to the death of a gorilla named Harambe has sparked controversy that scrutinize the mere existence of zoos. A infant got into the cage of Harabe; the gorilla posed a threat to the life of the infant and was shot. This raised many questions because some civilians recalled the gorilla protecting the infant. This also enraged many people because this gorilla s life could have been saved if he was not in captivity in the first place. In addition, it brought up the major question as to where or not zoos still serve a purpose in today s society. This topic is controversial because it concerns fundamental moral and economic questions about animals in captivity. People have argued both sides of the argument and there are valid reasons for both. Although one may argue that animals should be kept in zoos because they protect endangered species and the animals are in a safe and caring environment, it is evident that zoos should not exist because the animal s mental health is at risk, there are public and animal safety concerns, the animals are wrongly removed from their natural habitat, and the animals are mistreated and abused. One major reason why animals should not be kept in zoos is because it is bad for their mental health. Each essay expresses both a single aspect and the general experience of being a woman in a western patriarchal society. Additionally, each piece of writing is specifically divided into sections by theme, by style, and sometimes by formatting. This essay will examine the essays as a group and specifically take note of the divisions within each essay. How a writer divides her work can indicate the writer s perspective, sensibility, or strategy of communication. In their own ways, each author is writing about the lack of equality for women in society. The authors vary their methods of expression. Stanton is direct and abrupt. Cisneros is more lyrical and descriptive. Brady uses humor, irony, and wit to make her points. The paper will contend that the pieces of writing are, in their unique ways, divided, and will illustrate those divisions as an intentional method of grouping by theme. Stanton begins with a section entitled Declaration of Sentiments. (Stanton, Declaration of Sentiments and Resolution, Seneca Falls Convention 1848, Page 581) In her first section, she quotes the Declaration of Independence and makes small modifications that support her assertions. Reflection On Civic Mirror Civic Mirror Final Reflection Assignment 1) After playing Civic Mirror for three years, I learned lessons that I never would have imagined of learning in grade 10 civics. The most important thing I discovered was the significance of participating and posessing initiative in order to be a successful member of society. During the first year, I did not make many trades as I had little money, was too nervous to raise my concerns in Town Hall and did not find it important to sue anyone in National Court. Along with preventing me from obtaining a high score, not participating restricted me from enjoying myself in Civic Mirror like others did. However, once I increased my participation and took the initiative to trade, I found that my grade in Civic Mirror increased, I looked forward to come to class and I spoke with people whom I had never talked to before. Secondly, Civic Mirror helped me realize the necessity of having a source of income in order to be a prosperous citizen. During the auction, I did not buy a hex as I had very little money and could not afford it. Although the money I had originally been given sufficed me for the first year, the lack of money made it very difficult to fulfill my family s needs for the next two years. This experience allowed me to understand that when I grow up and become a self sufficient member of society, it is extremely important that I have a secure source of income.
