Philadelphia Audubon Inquiry Summary
Scott Weidensaul is an internationally known ornithologist, meaning he knows quite a lot about
birds (in particular owls). He has not only been the author of many books but the writer for sources
such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and Smithsonian Magazine. Weidensaul has also directed several
research efforts and has even been nominated for the Pulitzer prize.
He spoke at an Audubon Event held here at Lyco in November. I originally went to the event as
extra credit for a biology class but ended up learning a lot and really enjoying the lecture.
Before the event began, visitors were able to interact with two owls in the lobby outside the
lecture hall. The smaller of the two, named Bumper, was blind due to being hit by a car. The larger

The entire lecture hall where we normally have bio classes was full and some people were even
standing or using extra chairs. The second thing that surprised me was that someone could talk
about owls for so long. It really was fascinating that Mr. Weidensaul knew so much about them.
He started his talk by describing owls as souls of the night. he explained that no culture is
indifferent to owls, some revere them and others fear them. There have been owls in cave drawings,
art, and literature throughout history.
Another interesting part of the talk was Weidensaul s description of how scientists think of owls.
At first, it was believed that owls were related to night birds and predators but with better
technology, scientists were able to sequence more genomes and show that the closest relatives to
owls are in fact mouse birds. It was also found that barn owls split from typical owls, the other
family, around 45 million years ago.
I also found it interesting that the ear tufts on owls are just used for camo, not hearing. Their actual
ears are just openings in the skull. These openings are often asymmetrical on the owls head! For
example, the one on the right points upward and the one on the left points downward. This is so the
owl can locate soft sounds without moving its

Food Stamp Program Essay
The Food Stamp Program, recently renamed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, has been
helping serve the citizens of America since 1939. This program focuses on providing food at a
discounted price to those who qualify. The past has helped shaped and grow this government
program, however, it has also had to adjust and change due to new demands and the changing
demographics of the population. SNAP has allowed Americans to provide themselves and their
families with nutritious meals at a discounted price. However, if the newly proposed restrictions are
implemented there would be fewer options available and limit the recipient s purchasing power.
The Food Stamp Program first began seventy eight years ago, by Security of Agriculture, Henry ...

Three main legislative pieces were introduced to help address the issues of where the money to
fund the program would come from, how the program would be administered and the complete
process of certification. On July 1, 1994, the FSP program began operating nationwide. The longer
the bill was enacted the more problems came up that needed to be addressed. In 1977, both the
republicans and democrats provided main targets that each party wanted to be addressed. Thus, the
new Food Stamp Act of 1977 revised the primary act in the following ways: established statutory
income eligibility guidelines at the poverty line, penalized households whose heads voluntarily quit
jobs, eliminated the requirement that households must have cooking facilities (Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): A Short History of SNAP). With increasing enrollment,
there became a need to re adjust, cut backs were issued throughout the program and the
structuring of some elements of the bill had to change in order to cut cost. Over the next few
years, the program grew in the number of recipients and in its area of coverage. The FSP begin
offering relief for disaster victims and extending coverage of children and those with disabilities. By
August 2008, participation had reached an all time (non disaster) high of 29 million people per
month (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): A Short History of

Effects Of Kwanzaa On African Americans
Kwanzaa is a holiday that helps African Americans of all religions reconnect. This festival helps
African Americans recognize their struggles as people, and it reinforces the Seven Principles,
known as Nguzo Saba. It is based from December 26th to January 1st. This holiday is also based
on the African harvest celebrations. This holiday was first created in 1966, during the Civil Rights
Movement, by Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga. 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the holiday. Even after
50 years, not many African Americans actually celebrate the holiday. But this holiday is not only

Should Chris Brown Be Allowed To Enter Australia Essay
Should Chris Brown be allowed to enter Australia?
Recently there has been lots of controversy regarding whether or not Chris Brown should be
granted a visa pass to enter Australia for his One Hell of a Nite tour in December. Chris should be
granted a visa due to the fact that he is a changed man and has proven himself to his family, friends
and fans.
Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass for many reasons, one being him announcing that if he
were to enter the country he would like to use his past experience to raise awareness about the
issue. I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence
, he tweeted. I m not the pink elephant in the room anymore . He has even been pleading his case
on Twitter. By him saying he is willing to raise awareness for domestic violenceit is showing
everyone how serious he is about this issue.
It is obvious that what Chris did was wrong and he knows and admits it. Chris was on probation
for 5 years, completed 1 year of domestic violence counselling and 6 months of community
service, he has suffered the consequences of his actions and learnt his lesson. My life mistakes

Paul Krugman s New Trade Theory
Paul Krugman is well known for his New Trade Theory, International Trade Theory, and for his
weekly columns in The New York Times. Krugman has written more than twenty books and
textbooks explaining economics for a general audience. Krugman is a Professor of Economics and
International Affairs at Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton
University and Centenary Professor at London School of Economics. What is critical in Krugman s
approach is he united two fields, which traditionally are separated trade and geography. He has
found a way to explain some issues in economic geography by using the trade theory. He won a
The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Science in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2008 for his New
Trade Theory and New Economic Geography. By examining the effects of economies of scale on
consumers goods and services he is able to explain the patterns of international tradeand the
geographic concentration of wealth.
Krugman vouches that the economy isn t like a family that earns or spends a certain amount of
money there s no relation between the two. Your spending is my income, and my spending is your
income . If the people stop spending money, there s a depressed economy, although some people
would be spending money, it wouldn t be enough to save the economy causing unemployment to
rise. When there s a depressed economy the government isn t in competition with the private sector

The Facts And Scientific Knowledge About Artificial Blood...
ABSTRACT
This essay is a review of the facts and scientific knowledge about artificial blood substitutes, along
with societal attitudes. Artificial Blood has been a staple of scientific experimentation since the
15th century, and has been developing since. This science has the potential to be an incredible
resource to medical technology. There are two main types of artificial blood, Hb and PFC. These
two differ in function and form but perform most of the same actions. Although there are downfalls
to these technologies, such as short transfusion time and lack of scientific furthering, there is huge
potential in developing blood substitutes.

BODY
THE NEED FOR NONTRADITIONAL BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS
The traditional process for transfusions has been widely acknowledged as a successful part of
the medicinal process, but most people are unaware of the shortcomings of blood transfusions.
For example, donated blood is only useful for a maximum of forty two days of shelf life, even
with the use of nutritional additives. (Lowe 1) Although the demand for blood can be high at
times, it is unpredictable how much will be needed or of what blood type. This means that a
good amount of blood will inevitably have to be discarded without being used. An ideal blood
substitute would have a long shelf life, so that it could be used without waste. The most current
artificial bloods have a shelf life of about a year, about eight times traditional blood (Sakar).
Another downfall of traditional transfusions is the struggle for compatibility and donor safety.
Each donor and recipient match must be tested for blood type and by cross matching blood
samples. Not enough people donate blood in the first place, and each person must be tested to
make sure that they are disease free, or have not done anything risking their blood s health in the
past. Artificial blood would be a perfect match with all blood types and bodies, eliminating the
need for the hassle of having to use donors altogether. (Nielson) An alternative to traditional blood
would allow certain groups of people with religious restrictions, such as

3.1.Model (Sheth et al, 1991): Five Values Conceptual Framework
According to Sheth et al (1991), the customer perceived value has five dimensions including
functional, conditional, social, emotional, and epistemic values. This value derived from the
behaviour of the customer and overall purchasing criteria. Furthermore, this dimension clearly
illustrates the ability of the customer to choose whether to continue buying the product or vice versa.
In the purchase of PCs and electronic equipment, the model Sheth et all (1991) is highly
compatible and this is supported by the dimensions as well description of the model. It is clearly

I was pleased to have had the opportunity to observe two eighth grade teachers as part of my
internship process. I will use aliases for these teachers. Mrs. Cessna is a Middle School Social
Studies teacher who is currently teaching U.S. History to eighth grade students. She has been
teaching for thirteen years. The second teacher I observed is an eighth grade Math teacher, Mrs.
Knox. Mrs. Knox is in her twenty first year of teaching. Mrs. Knox is an amazing teacher. The
Common Core Standards for math are very challenging. The way the schedule is set up at North
Haven Middle School, the math teacher teachers 5 classes a day. One class is designed to be an
accelerated class, one is a math lab which is an additional class for struggling math learners. The
other three fall somewhere in between. The class I was able to observe was one of these middle
range math classes. The dynamics within the class varied from a couple students who excel in math
to struggling math learners. A few of the students in this class also attend the math lab while others
receive special educationservices. Mrs. Knox is able to consider the needs of all her students when
teaching. She reviews information multiple times to ensure an understanding of the math processes.
Math is not a subject that lends itself to student directed teaching and learning. There are specific
rules and formulas that need to be taught by Mrs. Knox. Mrs. Knox tried her best to engage the

Similarities Between Louis Xiv And Peter The Great
Absolutism is a political system in which a King or Queen has absolute power over a country.
This ruler also controls the political system, taxes, laws and every aspect of society. An absolute
monarch can also believe in divine right. This is the belief that God gave power to the monarchs
to be a God on earth. An example of these types of rulers are Louis XIV, who ruled for 72 years,
Ivan the Terrible who ruled from 1530 to 1584, and Peter the Great who ruled from 1682 to 1725.
Peter the Great was the most significant absolutist ruler because of all the great things he did for
the poor people and his effort into the modernization of his country. Louis XIV became the King of
France when he was five. However, he was too young to rule the country.... Show more content on

killings against the hereditary nobility (Ivan the Terrible). This means that since his wife died and
nobles were always fighting for power and Ivan has always had a hatred for them, he thought that
the nobles were the ones who planned to kill his wife and be thrown him from his throne.
Suddenly, in the winter of 1564 Ivan secretly left Moscow declaring that he wanted to abdicate.
The panicked population called for his return (Prominent Russians Ivan IV the Terrible). This

Several macroeconomic factors indicate that the basic ingredients for successful creation of a

When one considers the array of financial services that are available as a part of the formal financial

The focus of the Committee was not merely on enabling payments, but to strengthen the ecosystem

As per Committee there are four key factors that make paperless payment instruments and systems
more desirable.
1)Cash is expensive, while there are several perceived benefits of transacting in cash (such as
instantaneous settlement, relative anonymity, and the notion of security associated with holding

2)Technology has been advancing at a rapid pace to deliver robust, secure and convenient payments
solutions. This enables rapid delivery of payment services to large sections of the population.

What Are The Similarities Between Shakespeare And Barabas
Shakespeare and Marlowe were both influenced by the anti Semitic ideas of the society they lived
in. Hence, Shylock from the Merchant of Venice and Barabas from the Jew of Malta is portrayed
as a typical Jew, which was stereotyped in the Elizabethan times. In both plays, a victimized Jew
tries to seek revenge against a Christian, but then eventually fails on the threshold of triumph.
Shylock and Barabas are both rich Jewish men, who are representatives of the same faith. From the
start of each play, both protagonists are portrayed as men to be despised.
Churches forbade Christians from engaging in money lending because they believed that it
endangered the Christian s soul. However, since the Christians regarded the souls of Jews lost, Jews

Similarly, in the Merchant Of Venice
, Shylock is portrayed to be confused about which of the two;
his daughter or his money, is more important to him. When Jessica, his daughter, runs away, steals
all of his money and elopes with Lorenzo, a Christian, Shylock mostly worries about regaining his

they are both driven by money and thus, portraying them to be heartless. The audience also believes

Development Cognitive Neuropsychology A Discipline
Introduction
Cognitive processes are described as the performance of composite cognitive actions. Notably
cognitive processes are operations that influence the content of the brain or the thinking process as
well as the remembering operation (Lamberts Goldstone, 2005). Cognitive processes are crucial
aspects of human behavior and are concerned with how persons utilize their skills. On the other
hand, cognitive neuropsychology is a component of cognitive psychology. Cognitive
neuropsychology is directed into comprehending how brain s function and structure are linked to
certain psychological processes. More significantly, cognitive neuropsychology studies the damaged
brain cognitive effects with the aim of inferring cognitive functioning models. Cognitive
neuropsychology is a portion of the extensive research field known as neuroscience. Neuroscience
is multidisciplinary perspective that combines numerous means of looking at cognition and human
brain (Kaye, 2010). It is important to note that evidence of brain injury, cognitive effects as well as
the development of cognitive neuropsychology is founded on patient case studies.

The Outsiders In The Great Gatsby
Fitzgerald chose Nick to narrate the text because his perspective creates a multifaceted view of
the world Fitzgerald portrays. He is an outsider to the wealthy materialistic world in which he
lives. His similarity to Gatsby in that respect helps us gain an appreciation for Gatsby s character,
but although Nick and Gatsby are both outsiders Nick fails to fully understand Gatsby. This
appreciation but lack of full understanding gives the reader a very different perspectivethan a
narration from Gatsby s point of view or that of anyone else in the novel. Nick is caught between
the perspective of the man looking up and wondering (35) and the man in the party. Gatsby is
neither; he holds the party but then scarcely shows up. Far from being an outsider to the world of
wealthand materialism, he seems to embody it. Gatsby and Nick both disdain the world of
vacuous wealth, but they do so from different perspectives. Gatsby has everything he needs to be
part of it and chooses not to; Nick is caught on the edge, unsure whether or not he wants that
world, but ultimately he cannot have it. If Nick is an outsider unsure about trying to become an
insider, Gatsby is an insider trying, studiously, to make himself an outsider. The difference in the
interactions Nick and Gatsby have with Tom Buchanan show the difference in their perspectives
on wealth. Nick is a friend of Tom. He visits Tom and Daisy at their home, and Tom trusts him
enough to invite him to the small, intimate, gathering with only his mistress and the McKees.
Nick doesn t like to spend time with Tom; he says as they drive through the city Hold on... I have
to leave you here (28). He didn t have any particular reason to go, but he simply could not stand
being with Tom in that car for any longer. His reaction to the party in Tom s apartment is similar.
He wanted to get out (35), but something restrained him. He wants to leave, but he is within and
without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled (35) but Tom s party. Gatsby s reaction however,
is different. He doesn t entertain Tom or even try to engage with him. Nick speaks briefly to Tom
then looks over to Gatsby and he s simply no longer there (74). Gatsby and Tom are superficially
similar. They both

Accurate Bookkeeping
In a formal probate process, accurate bookkeeping is crucial. As an executor, you must provide a
final accounting of the estate and have it approved by all the beneficiaries in order to close the
estate. Since, in some states, the formal probate process can take a year or more to close an estate,
sloppy bookkeepingcan hold up the final accounting stage if a discrepancy occurs. Therefore, to
avoid holdups, you must develop a reliable bookkeeping system.
How to Set Up an Accurate Bookkeeping System

However, keep an eye out for transactions that are combined. Here are a couple common
transactions that could trip up any bookkeeping system:
A sale of a home. Usually, the proceeds you receive from a sale of a home has the expenses of the
sale deducted from the check. It s perfectly normal to deposit that check into the estate account
without recording the expenses. So, the income side of the transaction will be correct, but you will
be missing expenses that will cause a discrepancy in the final accounting. Make sure you enter the
expenses that were deducted from the proceeds of the sale into the manual record and the
automated record.
Completing a deposit of multiple checks on one deposit slip. When you deposit multiple checks
on one deposit slip you will receive a receipt for the total of all those checks. In the final
accounting, each type of income is reported separately. So, if you deposit multiple checks
consisting of a rent check, dividend check, and a check you received from closing an account,
that s three separate categories of income in the final accounting. You must record each check
separately either in your journal or the manual record so you will have a reference as to what
income type you received for each check. This will avoid confusion in the final

with her and feel a certain way about her that no one else could match. Her haunting, sometimes
even eerie sound had a mysterious effect on her audiences... In her small pretty voice, capable of
creating new, blue sounding melodies, they heard the sound of nostalgia a longing for missed
opportunities, and lost love (Gourse Billie 14). Holiday was far more than a singer, she was a
common person. She had both woes and triumphs, as all people do, and she did not hide that in her
voice. Holiday used her distinctly haunting voice to lure one in to listen, and once they were
listening, they saw their own struggles in her melodies. By doing this, Holiday connected with her
audience and portrayed her humanity to them. The distinct vocal cues, a grunt or a moan, could be

Group Discussion Strategy
Strategy #1 or Procedure #1: Class Discussions
Description: To encourage everyone to participate in a class discussion, I will use a talking tool
to facilitate the discussion. The talking tool will be a small koosh ball that will be passed around
to each person with a light underhand throw. Everyone will get at least one turn to talk and
participate in the discussion. First I will provide a model to the students by showing students how
to lightly toss the ball underhand and then how to catch the ball. Once I catch the ball I will model
how to provide to the discussion and then toss to another student. I will also model how to list and

Before students enter the hallway I will demonstrate by modeling how to line up at the door and
enter the hallway. I will then demonstrate how to walk in the hallway with my hands to myself and
with a voice level of 0. I will then have the students line up at the door next to their shoulder
partner. Once students have a voice level of 0 I will allow the students to go into the hallway. The
students will stop once they are in the hallways until everyone is together in one line. The students
will then follow the line leader with their shoulder partner down the hallway to their next location.
By having quiet and smooth transitions, will save time and cut down on behaviors which will
benefit the student s learning environment.
Theoretical Model /Area it best fits and why:
I would show the students how to walk in the hallways appropriatly by modeling. The students
would observe and then repeat what they have observed which relates to the Social Learning
Theory. The Social Learning Theory developed by Albert Bandura focuses on imitation and the
ability of one to watch, memorize and repeat a behavior. Students will imitate me after I model for
them and they will also be able to imitate their classmates. When walking to another location in teh

Adivasi In India
Adivasis are the indigenous population of India who predominantly depend on forests for their
livelihood and identity (references). India has the largest Adivasi (indigenous) population in the
world accounting to 104 million (8.2% of the national population), yet it took government of India
nearly 60 years to acknowledge the historical relevance of forests for Adivasicommunities through
ForestRights Act,2006 (references). The disregard for Adivasi societies is sometimes reflective
even on community name assigned by the mainstream non Adivasis. For example, one of the tribal
groups in Kerala are known by the name Adiyas (ആദിമ root word which in Malayalam
means slave). Assigning such community names by the non Adivasis were some of the linguistic
illustrations of Adivasi subjugation and dominance (references). Adivasi are primarily forest
dwellers, grazers, agriculturists, laborers and reside mountain and hilly areas adjoining forest areas
(references). Contrary to the mainstream Hindu communities, Adivasi are egalitarian group
however, they are known to have strict gender roles and responsibilities. Women in Adivasi
communities share accounts of a mutualistic relationship with forests and natural resources
developed through their material and non material pursuits (references). However, colonial
exploitation and historical alienation from ancestral land has impacted the socio economic balance
of the community with many of the human development indicators spiraling downward

Free College Essays-The Illegal Wildlife Trade
The Illegal Wildlife Trade Fads come and go. Parachute pants, scrunchies, Beanie Babies,
bellbottoms society desires newness, and very few things stand the test of time to become
something more than just a fad. Very few things provide the constant stimulation and intrigue
necessary to hold the attention of a society so deeply rooted in fast living and instant gratification.
The illegal wildlife trade, however, provides just enough of these things to fly smoothly under the
radar while keeping the tight knit network of people involved in it satisfied... well satisfied with a
seemingly infinite source of entertainment and intrigue as well as billions of dollars annually. This
trade is an illegal network based on poaching and capturing, smugglingand selling exotic and

Genesis 25 Thesis
Genesis 25 is primarily written in prose, but God s words to Rebekah about her pregnancy
emphasize the importance of what he is saying to her and the fate of her sons. The poem reads,
Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be
stronger than the other, the elder shall serve the younger (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the
two brothers will have numerous descendants that are able to form two nations, but he doesn t
explain why they will be in conflict. As is common in the Bible the youngest son achieves
superiority over his elder brother. There is an odd choice of words in this poem though. By saying
that Esauwill serve Jacobit implies that he will forever be in his shadow, however they... Show more

Rereading it though he does have a point to be this way, Jacob received the best blessing from
his father and when begged to also get a blessing Isaac gave Esau a rather harsh and pitiful one.
What was said in Jacob s blessing was the complete opposite for Esau. The word serve is also
mentioned in this poem, Isaac is telling Esau you shall serve your brother (Gen. 27:40), but
there is no further evidence that ever supports this claim that he does serve Jacob, unless both
God and Isaac were not literally talking about the brothers but the two nations they establish.
Verse 40 also supports this idea with Isaac s phrasing of, and you shall serve your brother; but when
you break loose, you shall break his yoke from your neck. (Gen. 27:40), in Genesis 33 Esau and
Jacob meet again after several years and Esau forgives his brother for all that he has done to

The city Las Vegas, Nevada was founded in 1905, with about 110 acres of land that became useful
for downtown Vegas. The city was the driving force in the creation of Clark County, Nevadain 1909

the population was estimated to be 608,444.33 and then the estimated population for this year is
expected to be 618,956.99. The life expectancy in Las Vegas depended on the zip code of the
area that the people lived in. During the World War II, the city had experienc3ed a rapid
population growth, growing at a rate of 192.4% between the years of 1940 and 1950 (Moffatt,

Collin Countyis to deliver services including justice, publicsafety, infrastructure, and public health
as mandated by the State of Texasand to execute other priorities as determined by the
Commissioners Court (Collin County). The mission statement is very concise and specific at times
by mentioning the main services that are provided, such as justice, public safety, infrastructure, and

clear strategic plan for the county in general. There are a few strategic plans that are current in the

improvement plans are in place to improve transportation in and around the county. Current capital

Theoretical Perspective In Psychology
Without society, there cannot be a self (132). That said, the way one presents himself should be
examined in terms of the interplay between both the individual and the culture he is immersed in.
Symbolic statements used by the self, for example, are often constrained or shifted to convey a
meaning that aligns with the institution such a self belongs to. With this in mind, I observed the
office doors of the 3rd floor PsychologyDepartment in the Brogden Psychology Building by taking
photos of such doors to examine how such statements can reflect one as an individual and as a
member of a subculture.
Perhaps some of the most fascinating office doors amongst the ones I observed were those covered
in humorous decor. One lab office door in particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, along with deductions made about the individuals, the observed symbolic statements can also
be examined through the lens of the subculture of the department as well. For example, although
there was an overall variety in content, the majority of the office doors observed contained personal
/humorous statements rather than informational/structured ones. Since these statements are seen by
other colleagues of the department, it is reasonable to assume that the department is playful in
nature. Similarly, many of the directions and lab doors were disorganized, exhibiting a uniform
nature of disarray rather than structured organization. Another form of content that was plentiful in
numbers was that of posters concerning mental health itself. This sentiment stresses passion for the
department s subculture itself, showcasing the department s pride in their research and its
importance on society as a whole. This department differs from others I ve seen in terms of
personality. The unique additions of humor and passion concerning the department set the
psychology department apart from many

Essay on Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalysis When people think of psychoanalysis, usually one name comes to mind. This
would be Sigmund Freud. Freud, along with Carl G. Jung and Alfred Adler, has impacted the
history of psychoanalysis. Further, he has influenced the lives of the men and women during the
early 1900s. In today s society, the history of psychoanalysisis continually being discussed among
many scholars. Paul Roazen, author of Encountering Freud: The Politics and Histories of
Psychoanalysis, has dedicated his professional career to researching the impact of Freud and his
followers not only on politics but on the cultural and intellectual life of this century (Chodoff 132).

Because of this, many searched for ideas to fill this void, and some found the answer to lay
within Freud. Also, Freud s image of man was completely secular. Roazen states, this freedom
from both Utopianism and asceticism has earned Freud the contempt of ideological totalitarians
of the Right and the Left (28). Despite the reasoning that lies behind this issue, it is clear that
Freud has provided an image of man that has made him understandable without at the same time
making him despicable. It is important to remember that Freud was once referred to as a leader
during a period of extreme change in social character. Freud, who was rooted in the philosophy
of humanism and the enlightenment, was a liberal critic of the bourgeois society. (Roazen 45).
He felt society demanded many un called for hardships on man. Further, he declared that these
cruelties would led to the formation of neuroses that could have been prevented by a more
accepting attitude. Many of Freud s supporters also felt that the pressures that were laid down by
society were unjust, hence their finding hope in his theories. Looking directly at Freud and his
development of psychoanalysis, he claims that psychoanalysis is my creation; for ten years I was
the only one occupied with it (Brill 933). Freud worked as a therapist treating patients and then
applying his findings to the larger human domains. Freud once stated, I perceived ever more clearly

United States Economy
According to the U.S. Labor Statistics 2011 report, when President Obama took office, the
economy was shedding nearly 800,000 jobs each month and millions of families were unable to

significant economic losses, including near record high levels of unemployment and low average

Howard Gardner s Theory Of Multiple Intelligence Essay
HOWARD GARDNER S THEORY OF MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES A professor of education at
Harvard University, Dr. Howard Gardner, developed the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983
(American Institute for Learning and Human Development, n.d.). Gardner s theory suggests that
traditional intelligence tests such as IQ tests, only meausures a limited aspect of human intelligence.
Instead, this theory suggests that people have potential in eight areas of intelligence which are;
linguistic, logical mathematic, spatial, bodily kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapesonal, and
naturalist. People who have linguistic intelligence are good with words, they are able to use written
and spoken words to effectively express themselves. Individuals who are logical mathematic
intelligent are able to anaylze problems logically, and use mathematical operations and the scientific
method to solve problems. If a person s strength is in musical intelligence, they have the ability to
perform, compose and recognize musical patterns. Boldily kinesthetic intelligence means an
individual uses their physical abilities to solve problems. Spatial intelligence is the ability to
recognize and use and interpret pictures. Interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences deal with
understanding other people s (intrapersonal) and your own (interpersonal) feelings and motivations.
Lastly, naturalist intellgience is the ability to recognize and appreciate the relationship between
humans and nature ( Gardner

Barnum s circus (Davis 83). Women performers proudly displayed rippling bodies while
demonstrating impressive feats of strength and handling dangerous animals. Most importantly, the
circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a
majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine
propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling
alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race,
class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of
clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved
shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude,
including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis
on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about
sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most
objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil
War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long
sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought
that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even
audience members were often treated with suspicion. During the first half of the nineteenth century,
American theater managers commonly reserved the third tier of seats, or upper gallery, for
prostitutes and their customers as a site of sexual exchange (Davis 86). Because they were often
banned by law for their bodily

What Is The Theme Of Honour In Othello
Discussing Shakespeare has always been an inspiring issue. But dealing with the issue of honour
in his works is even a more challenging matter. The aim of this thesis is to prove that honour has
been treated in Shakespeare tragedies as a key point which leads into his tragedies. Even though it
is dealt with it under dissimilar names, the consequences are the same. In three of his tragedies
Hamlet, Othelloand Romeo and Juliet honouris displayed as a main theme and at the same time as
a driving force, usually for the worse. Honour has been analysed as the same problem but with
different features. All the main characters of these tragedises kill in the name of honour.
nonetheless Hamlet kills to avenge his father`s death, Othello kills to purify... Show more content

In this thesis, there will be dealt with honour in three of Shakespeare s tragedies: Hamlet,
Othello and Romeo and Juliet. The aim of this thesis is to deal with honour not as a positive
contributor but as a destructive element. Because in the three tragedies we will analyse honour
has been the triger towards vengeance. In the writing of this thesis consulting many
Shakespearean scholars has been necessary and vital. One of the main ones is Harold Bloom.
Bloom has a deep appreciation for Shakespeare (Bloom 1994, pp. 2 3) and considers him to be
the supreme center of the Western Canon. (Bloom 1994, pp. 24 5). He has written numeral
works regarding different aspects of Shakespeare as a playwright. In 1998 Bloom conducted a
survey named Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human. In this survey Bloom provides a
detailed analysis of each of Shakespeare s 38 plays, twenty four of which are masterpieces.
(Bloom, 1998). Since it is written as a companion to the general reader and theatergoer, Bloom
states that bardolatry ought to be even more a secular religion than it already is. (Bloom,

which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life,

About nineteen percent of young people contemplate or attempt suicide each year. So how do
these statistics matter to you? Think about it like this, according to the center for disease
control, (CDC), every 12 minutes, a person will die because of suicide attempt. That is roughly
five deaths every hour. However, you do not hear about suicide like I have so bluntly put it to
you. We see suicide on the news and social media and it is written so positively. When Robin
William s died of suicide in 2014 the media started the phrase Genie you are free , but could this
quote be potentially glorifying suicide in a way that changes society s perception on suicide.
Throughout the years, media has continually grown and has had a huge impact on people of all
ages. According to the authors of The Impact of Social Media on Children, Adolescents, and
Families , social media is both a blessing and a curse, social media encourages creativity,
connection between peers, and helping shape ones individuality. However it also can lead to
Facebook depression which is depression that develops when preteens and teens spend a great
deal of time on social media sites, such as Facebook, and then begin to exhibit classic symptoms
of depression. (O Keeffe and Clarke Pearson). O Keeffe and Clarke Pearson also point out the
flaws that social media has privacy, advertisements, and

Courage In Charles Doyle s The True Confessions Of...
Take chances, make mistakes. That s how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to
fail in order to practice being brave. Mary Tyler Moore. This quote means that if you take chances
you will make mistakes, making mistakes is a part of your life, pain strengthens you, and failing
makes you braver. In the story, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, the readers learn from
Charlotte s adventures that there is many times to be brave, which is part of the theme, being brave
is sometimes the only choice.
In the story, The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, Charlotte walks down to top steerage,
where her luggage is, to get a couple of her belongings. When she s down there, she sees a
mysterious face staring at her. She doesn t know who it is. It s neither Captain Jaggery or the
crew. She walks up to it slowly and finds out it s not alive, it s a fake face. She starts up the
ladder but realizes she forgot her clothes. When she climbs back down to get her clothes, she
sees another face, she realizes this face it alive. She had no idea who the face was. (Chapter 6 7,
Pgs 70 71) This relates to the theme because here Charlotte had to be very brave to go up to the
face, go back down to get her things, and having to go down there when she needed something
from her luggage. She won t know if the face will hurt her when she s down there and she won t
know if the face is still down there.

`` An Act Of Evil `` By O Toole
In 14th century mythological creatures like werewolves and vampires were blamed for violent
crimes and the cause of the crime was seen as supernatural, beyond human control. In today s
society criminals are still labeled as monsters, little effort is made to understand what influences
their actions. However criminals are too average human beings and examining why crimes are
committed can help law enforcement better handled and prevented future acts of crimes. Why do
we label criminals instead of understanding their behavior? What factors influence people to
commit crimes? By understanding the factors influencing the crimecan future crimes be prevented?
In an article by O Toole called, Words Matter and Labels Make a Difference , she discusses how
labels such as monster limit the public from understanding why the crimes were committed. In the
article, An Act of Evil? When Monsters Kill , O Toole explains the reasoning behind a father
killing himself and his two sons. Janet Reitman discusses the life of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the man
responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing in the Rolling Stone article, Jahar s World . She
interviews people close to Jahar to gain an understanding of what made him execute the bombing.
In the article, Words Matter and Labels Make a Difference , O Toole suggests, Thinking of Castro

Specifically, its mission is to identify, confront, and undermine the communications of al Qaeda
affiliates. To achieve its goals, the CSCC is divided into three entities: intelligence and analysis,
plans and operations, and a Digital Outreach team (DOT). Within its intelligence and analysis
section, the CSCC coordinates its efforts with various U.S. intelligence agencies. There are two
guiding principles the intelligence and analysis section follows. First, it must ensure all of its
efforts are interagency coordinated. Prior to the launching of the CSCC, there was very little
interdepartmental coordination. Within the U.S. government, there were multiple agencies with
overlapping responsibilities within the counterterrorism/counter violent extremist realm, yet their
efforts were uncoordinated. Second, the intelligence and analysis section attempts to make the best
use of information provided by intelligence agencies and academic analysis of the adversary of
interest. The plans and operations team is responsible for designing and implementing all non
digital counter violent extremist communication tools. These tools are used to counter terrorist
groups ability to gain support and to recruit new members. The materials produced by this section
are available to be used by all U.S government agencies. The third section of the CSCC is its

The Catcher in the Rye Relative to the 1950 s Essay
The Catcher in the Rye Relative to the 1950 s
The Catcher in the Rye can be strongly considered as one of the greatest novels of all time and
Holden Caufield distinguishes himself as one of the greatest and most diverse characters. His
moral system and his sense of justice force him to detect horrifying flaws in the society in which he
lives.
However, this is not his principle difficulty. His principle difficulty is not that he is a rebel, or a
coward, nor that he hates society, it is that he has had many experiences and he remembers
everything. Salinger indicates this through Holden s confusion of time throughout the novel.
Experiences at Whooten, Pency, and Elkton Hills combine and no levels of time separate them. This

I mean if they re running and they don t look we re they re going I have to come out from
somewhere and catch them. That s all I have to do all day. I d just be the Catcher in the Rye and
all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only thing I d really like to be. I know it s crazy(Salinger 173).
Holden exhibits the madness described before at often times throughout the book and in the end it
ends up sending him to a sanitarium. He knows he has become mad and he even tells himself this
many times in the book; but he never really believes it. One time in the book when he displays this
madness is,
Wadsworth 4.
But I m crazy I swear to God I am. About halfway to the bathroom, I started pretending I had a
bullet in my guts. Old Maurice had plugged me.
Now I was on the way to the bathroom to get a good shot of bourbon. I pictured myself with my
automatic in my pocket, and staggering a little bit. I d walk down a couple of floors holding on
to my guts, blood leaking all over the place. As soon as old Maurice opened the doors he d start
screaming at me. But I d plug him anyway (Salinger 103 4). This explains the psychotically
disturbing actions Holden takes in this novel. Holden becomes obsessed with death and dying,
and several times in the book he wishes he was dead. Again, Holden can t stay away from the
subject of the death of family members and the decay of the corpse. Even when he later goes to the

Lilith s Midrash
Adam is adm(nst) and Earth is adamah (vnst). After Lilith got extremely aggravated with Adam
and their dis likeness, she shouts out Yahweh (YHWH) which is translated into Lord God, and it
is so holy that it should remain unspeakable. Due to her speaking out the holy name, it provided
proof that she was undeserving of paradise. She sprouts wings and flies off of the earth (even
though she was made of the earth, she is not an earthbound) (Gaines NP Online ). Before
explaining what Lilith s, midrash is, it is important to know what exactly a midrash is. A midrash

Much Ado About Nothing and Good Will Hunting
Self discovery relies on the learning from others.Self discovery is defined as The act or process of
achieving understanding or knowledge of oneself. We all interact with many people who play an
influential role in our lives. These people could challenge, criticize, motivate, inspire, or judge us.
Through this, we may develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and our abilities. By reflecting
upon difficult or unhappy interactions with another person, we might even be able to see these
interactions with new eyes. The idea of counterfeiting, in the sense of presenting a false face to the

Axon Brain Case Study
An arriving action potential depolarizes the axon terminal of a presynaptic neuron. Calcium ions
enter the cytosol of the axon terminal, which results in acetylcholine release from the synaptic
vesicles by exocytosis. Ach diffuses across the synaptic cleft and binds to receptors on the
postsynaptic membrane. Sodium channels open, which produce a graded depolarization. Ach is
broken down into acetate and choline by AChE, which causes depolarization to end. The axon

Civilization Paper
Civilization is a term used in many different ways. It can be defined as; people who eat the same
kind of foods,
People who live together, people who speak the same language, and so on. Yet each way that it is
defined relates towards the same topic; Humans and their existence on the planet. Civilization is
known greatly as a group of humans or animals that live generally together and practice the same
habits. Civilization, according to some historians, first came into play in the year 3000 BCE. These
historians look at civilization as people who have the same dietary needs and habits, who practice
these habits regularly in order to survive. A couple of years before 3000 BCE, the world went

With of all the new little civilizations popping up, and all the different conditions, and not
everyone being able to grow what they need to survive. The people had to resort to trade.
Trade helps civilizations grow to be more populated and stronger. Trade also encourages travel,
which eventually leads to exploration. And by people exploring they find either more civilizations
to trade with, or more land to expand onto.
The Mesopotamians are one of the first major civilizations to come into existence. They were able
to do this because of the agricultural revolution. The Mesopotamian region was like a quot;big dust
bowl quot; and much of the time was very hot.
Yet there was also times when there was too much water, and the rain flooded all of the peoples
crops, and turned the water into swamp like conditions which were unsafe to drink. In order to
fix this and make their civilization strive and survive, the people had to make canals, dams and
irrigation systems. These things helped the crops grow greatly. Because of the great success of
their produce, they were able to trade with other cultures for livestock, and other kinds of food and
goods necessary to live and survive.
Once in a while a culture will find something that they are really good at making, or something that
they can make and others cannot because of their geography and environment.
Some things that some cultures could make are

  • 2. Philadelphia Audubon Inquiry Summary Scott Weidensaul is an internationally known ornithologist, meaning he knows quite a lot about birds (in particular owls). He has not only been the author of many books but the writer for sources such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and Smithsonian Magazine. Weidensaul has also directed several research efforts and has even been nominated for the Pulitzer prize. He spoke at an Audubon Event held here at Lyco in November. I originally went to the event as extra credit for a biology class but ended up learning a lot and really enjoying the lecture. Before the event began, visitors were able to interact with two owls in the lobby outside the lecture hall. The smaller of the two, named Bumper, was blind due to being hit by a car. The larger one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire lecture hall where we normally have bio classes was full and some people were even standing or using extra chairs. The second thing that surprised me was that someone could talk about owls for so long. It really was fascinating that Mr. Weidensaul knew so much about them. He started his talk by describing owls as souls of the night. he explained that no culture is indifferent to owls, some revere them and others fear them. There have been owls in cave drawings, art, and literature throughout history. Another interesting part of the talk was Weidensaul s description of how scientists think of owls. At first, it was believed that owls were related to night birds and predators but with better technology, scientists were able to sequence more genomes and show that the closest relatives to owls are in fact mouse birds. It was also found that barn owls split from typical owls, the other family, around 45 million years ago. I also found it interesting that the ear tufts on owls are just used for camo, not hearing. Their actual ears are just openings in the skull. These openings are often asymmetrical on the owls head! For example, the one on the right points upward and the one on the left points downward. This is so the owl can locate soft sounds without moving its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Food Stamp Program Essay The Food Stamp Program, recently renamed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, has been helping serve the citizens of America since 1939. This program focuses on providing food at a discounted price to those who qualify. The past has helped shaped and grow this government program, however, it has also had to adjust and change due to new demands and the changing demographics of the population. SNAP has allowed Americans to provide themselves and their families with nutritious meals at a discounted price. However, if the newly proposed restrictions are implemented there would be fewer options available and limit the recipient s purchasing power. The Food Stamp Program first began seventy eight years ago, by Security of Agriculture, Henry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Three main legislative pieces were introduced to help address the issues of where the money to fund the program would come from, how the program would be administered and the complete process of certification. On July 1, 1994, the FSP program began operating nationwide. The longer the bill was enacted the more problems came up that needed to be addressed. In 1977, both the republicans and democrats provided main targets that each party wanted to be addressed. Thus, the new Food Stamp Act of 1977 revised the primary act in the following ways: established statutory income eligibility guidelines at the poverty line, penalized households whose heads voluntarily quit jobs, eliminated the requirement that households must have cooking facilities (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): A Short History of SNAP). With increasing enrollment, there became a need to re adjust, cut backs were issued throughout the program and the structuring of some elements of the bill had to change in order to cut cost. Over the next few years, the program grew in the number of recipients and in its area of coverage. The FSP begin offering relief for disaster victims and extending coverage of children and those with disabilities. By August 2008, participation had reached an all time (non disaster) high of 29 million people per month (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): A Short History of ... Recently there has been lots of controversy regarding whether or not Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass to enter Australia for his One Hell of a Nite tour in December. Chris should be granted a visa due to the fact that he is a changed man and has proven himself to his family, friends and fans. Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass for many reasons, one being him announcing that if he were to enter the country he would like to use his past experience to raise awareness about the issue. I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence , he tweeted. I m not the pink elephant in the room anymore . He has even been pleading his case on Twitter. By him saying he is willing to raise awareness for domestic violenceit is showing everyone how serious he is about this issue. Chris was on probation for 5 years, completed 1 year of domestic violence counselling and 6 months of community service, he has suffered the consequences of his actions and learnt his lesson. • 6. Paul Krugman s New Trade Theory Paul Krugman is well known for his New Trade Theory, International Trade Theory, and for his weekly columns in The New York Times. Krugman has written more than twenty books and textbooks explaining economics for a general audience. Krugman is a Professor of Economics and International Affairs at Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and Centenary Professor at London School of Economics. What is critical in Krugman s approach is he united two fields, which traditionally are separated trade and geography. He has found a way to explain some issues in economic geography by using the trade theory. He won a The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Science in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2008 for his New Trade Theory and New Economic Geography. By examining the effects of economies of scale on consumers goods and services he is able to explain the patterns of international tradeand the geographic concentration of wealth. Krugman vouches that the economy isn t like a family that earns or spends a certain amount of money there s no relation between the two. Your spending is my income, and my spending is your income . If the people stop spending money, there s a depressed economy, although some people would be spending money, it wouldn t be enough to save the economy causing unemployment to rise. A limited partner cannot take part in the management of a partnership en commandite. • 8. The Facts And Scientific Knowledge About Artificial Blood... ABSTRACT This essay is a review of the facts and scientific knowledge about artificial blood substitutes, along with societal attitudes. Artificial Blood has been a staple of scientific experimentation since the 15th century, and has been developing since. This science has the potential to be an incredible resource to medical technology. There are two main types of artificial blood, Hb and PFC. These two differ in function and form but perform most of the same actions. Although there are downfalls to these technologies, such as short transfusion time and lack of scientific furthering, there is huge potential in developing blood substitutes. INTRODUCTION Artificial blood first started being produced in the 1600 s, and has slowly been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BODY THE NEED FOR NONTRADITIONAL BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS The traditional process for transfusions has been widely acknowledged as a successful part of the medicinal process, but most people are unaware of the shortcomings of blood transfusions. For example, donated blood is only useful for a maximum of forty two days of shelf life, even with the use of nutritional additives. (Lowe 1) Although the demand for blood can be high at times, it is unpredictable how much will be needed or of what blood type. This means that a good amount of blood will inevitably have to be discarded without being used. An ideal blood substitute would have a long shelf life, so that it could be used without waste. The most current artificial bloods have a shelf life of about a year, about eight times traditional blood (Sakar). Another downfall of traditional transfusions is the struggle for compatibility and donor safety. Each donor and recipient match must be tested for blood type and by cross matching blood samples. Not enough people donate blood in the first place, and each person must be tested to make sure that they are disease free, or have not done anything risking their blood s health in the past. Artificial blood would be a perfect match with all blood types and bodies, eliminating the need for the hassle of having to use donors altogether. I will use aliases for these teachers. Mrs. Cessna is a Middle School Social Studies teacher who is currently teaching U.S. History to eighth grade students. She has been teaching for thirteen years. The second teacher I observed is an eighth grade Math teacher, Mrs. Knox. Mrs. Knox is in her twenty first year of teaching. Mrs. Knox is an amazing teacher. • 18. The Outsiders In The Great Gatsby Fitzgerald chose Nick to narrate the text because his perspective creates a multifaceted view of the world Fitzgerald portrays. He is an outsider to the wealthy materialistic world in which he lives. His similarity to Gatsby in that respect helps us gain an appreciation for Gatsby s character, but although Nick and Gatsby are both outsiders Nick fails to fully understand Gatsby. This appreciation but lack of full understanding gives the reader a very different perspectivethan a narration from Gatsby s point of view or that of anyone else in the novel. Nick is caught between the perspective of the man looking up and wondering (35) and the man in the party. Gatsby is neither; he holds the party but then scarcely shows up. Far from being an outsider to the world of wealthand materialism, he seems to embody it. Gatsby and Nick both disdain the world of vacuous wealth, but they do so from different perspectives. Gatsby has everything he needs to be part of it and chooses not to; Nick is caught on the edge, unsure whether or not he wants that world, but ultimately he cannot have it. If Nick is an outsider unsure about trying to become an insider, Gatsby is an insider trying, studiously, to make himself an outsider. The difference in the interactions Nick and Gatsby have with Tom Buchanan show the difference in their perspectives on wealth. Nick is a friend of Tom. He visits Tom and Daisy at their home, and Tom trusts him enough to invite him to the small, intimate, gathering with only his mistress and the McKees. Nick doesn t like to spend time with Tom; he says as they drive through the city Hold on... I have to leave you here (28). He didn t have any particular reason to go, but he simply could not stand being with Tom in that car for any longer. His reaction to the party in Tom s apartment is similar. The mission statement is very concise and specific at times by mentioning the main services that are provided, such as justice, public safety, infrastructure, and public health. Length of mission statements can be cumbersome at times to understand because of conflicting views. Collin s mission provides insight into the purpose that the organization is trying to fulfill and constitutes of a great statement. Collin County s mission statement does not guide particular actions or policies because it is there for public relations. Collin County does not have a clear strategic plan for the county in general. There are a few strategic plans that are current in the park district, but none have been implemented for the organization as a whole. Several capital improvement plans are in place to improve transportation in and around the county. Current capital project plans were implemented in 2007 and are still works in progress. • 31. Theoretical Perspective In Psychology Without society, there cannot be a self (132). That said, the way one presents himself should be examined in terms of the interplay between both the individual and the culture he is immersed in. Symbolic statements used by the self, for example, are often constrained or shifted to convey a meaning that aligns with the institution such a self belongs to. With this in mind, I observed the office doors of the 3rd floor PsychologyDepartment in the Brogden Psychology Building by taking photos of such doors to examine how such statements can reflect one as an individual and as a member of a subculture. Perhaps some of the most fascinating office doors amongst the ones I observed were those covered in humorous decor. One lab office door in particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since these statements are seen by other colleagues of the department, it is reasonable to assume that the department is playful in nature. Similarly, many of the directions and lab doors were disorganized, exhibiting a uniform nature of disarray rather than structured organization. Another form of content that was plentiful in numbers was that of posters concerning mental health itself. This sentiment stresses passion for the department s subculture itself, showcasing the department s pride in their research and its importance on society as a whole. Because of this, many searched for ideas to fill this void, and some found the answer to lay within Freud. Also, Freud s image of man was completely secular. Roazen states, this freedom from both Utopianism and asceticism has earned Freud the contempt of ideological totalitarians of the Right and the Left (28). Despite the reasoning that lies behind this issue, it is clear that Freud has provided an image of man that has made him understandable without at the same time making him despicable. It is important to remember that Freud was once referred to as a leader during a period of extreme change in social character. Freud, who was rooted in the philosophy of humanism and the enlightenment, was a liberal critic of the bourgeois society. (Roazen 45). He felt society demanded many un called for hardships on man. Further, he declared that these cruelties would led to the formation of neuroses that could have been prevented by a more accepting attitude. Many of Freud s supporters also felt that the pressures that were laid down by society were unjust, hence their finding hope in his theories. Looking directly at Freud and his development of psychoanalysis, he claims that psychoanalysis is my creation; for ten years I was the only one occupied with it (Brill 933). Most importantly, the circus was a comfortable space for women who felt alienated by social norms. In an era when a majority of women s roles were still circumscribed by Victorian ideals of domesticity and feminine propriety, circum women s performances celebrated female power, thereby representing a startling alternative to social norms. In their elaborate advertising campaigns, proprietors used gender, race, class, and representations of empire to create an irresistible sexual striptease under the guise of clean family entertainment Since American women generally wore full skirts and long sleeved shirtwaists at this time, virtually anything short of that coverage should be constructed as nude, including the wearing of leotards, tights, or dresses above the knee. Showmen s constant emphasis on female performers lives, loves and body hugging tights became yet another way to talk about sex (Davis 85). Antebellum circus audience members targeted circus women as disreputable. Most objections centered on costuming. Although tights and leotards were not worn until after the Civil War, antebellum payers wore stockings under knee length skirts a far cry from the proper, long sleeved, floor length dress of the period. Purity reformers and audiences both frequently thought that all female entertainers were prostitutes because they exposed their bodies for pay. Even audience members were often treated with suspicion. Ach diffuses across the synaptic cleft and binds to receptors on the postsynaptic membrane. Sodium channels open, which produce a graded depolarization. Ach is broken down into acetate and choline by AChE, which causes depolarization to end. The axon terminal reabsorbs choline form the synaptic cleft and uses it to resynthesize ACh. B.
