The entire lecture hall where we normally have bio classes was full and some people were even
standing or using extra chairs. The second thing that surprised me was that someone could talk
about owls for so long. It really was fascinating that Mr. Weidensaul knew so much about them.
He started his talk by describing owls as souls of the night. he explained that no culture is
indifferent to owls, some revere them and others fear them. There have been owls in cave drawings,
art, and literature throughout history.
Another interesting part of the talk was Weidensaul s description of how scientists think of owls.
At first, it was believed that owls were related to night birds and predators but with better
technology, scientists were able to sequence more genomes and show that the closest relatives to
owls are in fact mouse birds. It was also found that barn owls split from typical owls, the other
family, around 45 million years ago.
I also found it interesting that the ear tufts on owls are just used for camo, not hearing. Their actual

The traditional process for transfusions has been widely acknowledged as a successful part of
the medicinal process, but most people are unaware of the shortcomings of blood transfusions.
For example, donated blood is only useful for a maximum of forty two days of shelf life, even
with the use of nutritional additives. (Lowe 1) Although the demand for blood can be high at
times, it is unpredictable how much will be needed or of what blood type. This means that a
good amount of blood will inevitably have to be discarded without being used. An ideal blood
substitute would have a long shelf life, so that it could be used without waste. The most current

was a walking distance from our hotel and opened very early, so ended up having breakfast here
many times. The coffee and food were great, but we really enjoyed the ambiance and the friendly
service. They also offer half plates so won t have leftovers to carry around. My favorite dish was
the build your own omelet and the Waffles. Wildflower bread company: Conveniently located in
Uptown Sedona, this restaurant offers sandwiches, soups and freshly baked goods made with
locally sourced ingredients. For breakfast we tried the Roasted Tomato Feta and the cinnamon
brioche French toast and for lunch we tried the Roasted Sweet Potato and the Reuben sandwich.
All were very tasty and satisfying. Tii Gavin restaurant: This restaurant is tucked away between
the red rocks at the Enchantment Resort and SPA. You will have to drive through a winding road
to get to this place but it worth the effort. The resort is nestled between canyons and red rocks and
the restaurant offers a great view and delicious food. While we are enjoying this amazing view at

Civilization is a term used in many different ways. It can be defined as; people who eat the same
kind of foods,
People who live together, people who speak the same language, and so on. Yet each way that it is
defined relates towards the same topic; Humans and their existence on the planet. Civilization is
known greatly as a group of humans or animals that live generally together and practice the same
habits. Civilization, according to some historians, first came into play in the year 3000 BCE. These
historians look at civilization as people who have the same dietary needs and habits, who practice

These changes have led to more numbers of civilizations.
With of all the new little civilizations popping up, and all the different conditions, and not
everyone being able to grow what they need to survive. The people had to resort to trade.
Trade helps civilizations grow to be more populated and stronger. Trade also encourages travel,
which eventually leads to exploration. And by people exploring they find either more civilizations
to trade with, or more land to expand onto.
The Mesopotamians are one of the first major civilizations to come into existence. They were able
to do this because of the agricultural revolution. The Mesopotamian region was like a quot;big dust
bowl quot; and much of the time was very hot.
Yet there was also times when there was too much water, and the rain flooded all of the peoples
crops, and turned the water into swamp like conditions which were unsafe to drink. In order to
fix this and make their civilization strive and survive, the people had to make canals, dams and
irrigation systems. These things helped the crops grow greatly. Because of the great success of
their produce, they were able to trade with other cultures for livestock, and other kinds of food and
goods necessary to live and survive.
Once in a while a culture will find something that they are really good at making, or something that
they can make and others cannot because of their geography and environment.
