The language of the Deaf is usually consistent with the environment the language is being spoken
in. For example, the signs that one can encounter in British Sign Language can be different than
signs that are seen in American Sign Language. Although Sign Language itself is very universal,

history. Through examining their history, Wilson uses setting and symbolism to convey his
personal belief in the importance of one s ancestral family roots and the significant impact it has
in a person s everyday life. The author uses setting to introduce the significance in the ancestry of
the Charles family and further examine the troubling state of the current generation. Wilson grew

things. It may be many different things depending on each individual. Many soldiers get trained so
their mentality is to characterize their opponents as less than human, so their lives lose all worth.
Some soldiers however, are not prepared for this, even though they have been trained. One thing is

Starting this course in August, I didn t realize the power that multicultural counseling had instilled
in it. The fact that its central focus is around social justice and equality is a characteristic our
society much needs today. Throughout the duration of this class, I learned about multicultural
counseling as a whole, new theories that can be applied specifically to different racial/ethnic
minorities, the ACA code of ethics, and who I wantto be as a future counselor.
In the beginning of the course I had very little knowledge about the theories in multicultural
counseling. I knew that it was centrally focused around social justice and equality but I didn t know
there were theories that pertained to specific ethnic minorities. I also learned that there isn t a
one size fits all theory. What I learned was that each model needs to be unique to the client and
very well rounded; it should include a specific goal(s), describe the process, have both aspects of
cognition and emotion, and include justice and equity as well. (Jun 2010) I have learned that as a
multicultural counselor you have to be very aware and mindful of your thoughts and actions. I

The year 2010 was an active year for earthquakes and other natural disasters, racking up a total of
four earthquakes ranked 7.0 or higher. Two of these quakes were merely a month apart, and
started the year in a very destructive way. The first was a 7.0 in Haiti, the second over 3,000 miles
away in Chile, an 8.8. Though both ravaged their countries, one was decidedly more devastating
than the other. Looking at the magnitudes of the quakes, you might think Chile received the worst
of it, but after further inspection, you may not be so sure. While the magnitude of a quake can be a
big factor in the corresponding effects, the infrastructure of the affected area plays an even larger
role in the number of casualties and the amount of devastation that is experienced. This devastation
is further increased in coastal areas due to the high likelihood of tsunamis shadowing high
magnitude quakes.
The evening of January 12, 2010 was met with tragedy as a powerful 7.0 earthquake rattled the
coast of Haiti. The epicenter of the quake sat close to the town of LГ©ogГўne, a mere 15 miles
