The Indian Removal And The Colonization Of The United...
Between the years 1816 and 1850, over one hundred thousand Indians from sixty different tribes
were relocated from their homelands and moved west; around thirty thousand Indians would die en
route. The Indian Removal stands as one of the cruelest periods in the history of the United States,
and is the result of a long history of war and disagreement between whites and Indians.
Indians and Europeans had their differences. The culture of the Indian tribes was very different
than that of the incoming white settlers. Indian nations held a deep respect for nature, and felt that
the land belonged to no individual. The white European settlers believed in private land ownership.
However, in spite of these differences, some white settlers and Indians developed successful trade
relationships. Still, Indians were long regarded as savages by white Europeans . Spaniards treated
them with extreme brutality, imprisoning Indians and confiscating their lands. And as time passed,
Indians and Europeans would begin to fight over land claims.
200 years later, Indians and Europeans had several written treaties, but the Europeans often ignored
the treaties and encroached on Native territory. Indians sought ways to stop the settlers from taking
their lands, sometimes turning to war.
In the American Revolutionary War, most Indians fought on the side of the British. Indians believed
that Britain was the better option for winning the war, as they hoped the British would help curb
the expansion of

While I Fully Believe That It Is Important To Understand
While I fully believe that it is important to understand what happens in the past, I believe that
what we experience in the present is just as important. Throughout the semester this class, values
and ethics, has helped me to understand not only the actions of myself, but the actions of those
around me in the past as well. This class has taught me what it means to have values and morals,
as well as how important it is to accept the values and morals of others. Meeting and being
around people who had different morals and values than I did, is something that I have never
really been around, so this class was both positive and negative for me. Growing up in East

Religion to many people, myself included, is the basis of who they are. Jong explains the role of
religious leaders, within a person s value system. Over the course of this semester, I have leaned
on my religious views to get me through, each morning before class, I sit in my car and read my
bible. Then, coming into class, I apply my religious thoughts to the topic of the day, it is amazing
just how much that alone changed my views.
Throughout the semester, my values have not really been altered that much. I have however,
accepted people s opinions that are way different from mine. I have heard numerous people talk
about why they think like they do and where they get their morals from. There have been many
times that the people that are in my group, or sit around me have said things that I do not agree
with at all, but instead of arguing, I listened. While I did not agree with them, in some instances I
agreed with their reasoning behind things, and I think that is important. I think this class is a lot
about learning that everyone is not the same, and that everyone is always going to have a differnt
opinion than you do, and for the first time I think that is ok.
This course has defiantly taught me a lot about stereotype, not just that I have but that everyone
else around me has as well. Coming into the class, I never expected it to be like it has been. I
expected it to just be lectures from a book, but this class

Cause And Effects Of Tsunami In Japan
In March of 2011, a magnitude 9 earthquake hit Japan, releasing a dangerous tsunami. Japan was not
expecting the magnitude of the earthquake and tsunami, and endured much hardship after the
disaster. The effects of the tsunami can still be seen in Japan today through its residents, economy,
and through actions that have been taken to further protect residents from future disasters. Though
the Japan 2011 tsunamiis one of the most destructive tsunamis ever recorded, dangerous tsunamis
continue to take place across the globe. The Japan 2011 tsunami not only affected the inhabitants of
Japan, but also affected people around the world. After disasters such as this, each area must endure
the aftermath of the disaster and recover from the effects.
A tsunami is a series of huge waves occurring when there is a major disturbance on the ocean
floor. Tsunamis often occur due to earthquakes, volcanoes, or landslides (Park 16). Underwater
earthquakes may produce waves that travel in all different directions. Some tsunamis lose power
and die out under water, others may produce large waves as they approach land. Tsunamis may
look like an onrushing tidal wave as they approach land, but do not occur because of tides (Park
6). Their walls of water can move across the open ocean at speeds of up to 560 miles per hour.
When the waves hit the coast, they can reach up to 100 feet (Park 5). The tsunami in Japan is
believed to have occurred after two of Earth s tectonic plates collided in the

Asian-American Stereotypes
Asian culture has been slandered throughout America s history by the term Model Minority , and
through it s toxic ideals has lead to outstanding rates of depression, and the inhumane backlash has
proven fatal to the Asian American population. The term Model Minority was coined to categorize
Asian Americans in 1966, during the United Statescivil liberties movement. During this time period
white politicians were in a state of agitation because African Americans were demanding their civil
rights(Chin). The stereotype associated with the term model minority is a suffocating archetype
that has been pushed onto Asian Americans; this degrading term has a harsh history that has led to
heinous social pressures and implications, along with detrimental... Show more content on

Stephanie grew up in the 80 s, while Katherine is still a student. Stephanie Johnson said that her

Daniel Levinson s Theory Of Middle Adulthood
Middle adulthood refers to the time period between 45 and 65, in which adults have settled down
and are now contemplating their place in the world. It s during middle adulthood that adults now
are faced with the effort of passing on something meaningful to future generations. The theories
associated with middle adulthood describe the different aspects that are important during middle
adulthood, from personality developmentto vital relationships. Examining these aspects can help
one to gain a better understanding of the development that occurs during middle adulthood. One
theory that describes the way in which personality develops during this time is Erikson s theory.
Erikson s theory refers to middle adulthood as the stage of generativity versus stagnation;
generativity describes the passing on of a legacy from one generation to the next, where stagnation
is the lack of passing on such a legacy. Generativity can be accomplished by bearing offspring,
guiding and nurturing children, and passing on life skills and culture. It s during this stage that
adults try to lead the next generation by teaching, guiding, and participating in activities that benefit
the community (Santrock, 2017, pg. 487).
Another theory associated with personality during middle age is Daniel Levinson s Seasons of a
Man s Life. According to Levinson s theory, there are seven stages of life, with each stage
consisting of a transitional period and a stable period. The first of his seven stages is the

Animal Rights At Factory Farms
Madison Bowdish
Dr. Brian Onishi
PHIL 229
15 Dec 2016
Animal Rights in Factory Farms The idea that industrial farming is bad for the environment is
well known, but what people do not think about is horrible practice of factory farms within
industrial farming. Factory farms are inhumane and not only because the animal is being
slaughtered, but because of the way the animals are treated before the are killed. A person would
think that if they were to be innocently killed that they would want to be treated with respect and
dignity before they die. In this paper, I will argue that animals have rights through a utilitarian view
and that they should not be treated in an inhumane way. The framework I plan to discuss is Peter
Singer s utilitarian view on animal rights. A general idea of what utilitarianismis can be described
as the need for the many outweigh the needs of a few, or majority rule when it comes to
happiness. Singer s criteria for how a being gets rights is based on the ability to feel pleasure or
pain. With this criteria it allows people who are mentally handicapped, the senile, and babies to
have rights (Hozien). Most would agree that it would be cruel to not give these people rights, so
Singer argues that since animals can feel pain and pleasure they also have rights. Although he
believes that they should be treated equal he does admit that there is a range or difference of pain.
He equates this to racism or in this case speciesism. For instance he states that

Religion During The Enlightenment Era
The kingdom of God does not rule! During the enlightenment era, philosophers from Europe began
to question the standard practices used to maintain the social order of society. The concepts of
religion, government, and politics were all called into question by the great thinkers of Europe
during this time. Baruch Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were 3 great thinkers of the
enlightenment era who questioned the role of religionin maintaining social order (Thinkers of the
Enlightenment). Baruch Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were all important philosophers who
helped decrease the power of the church in Europe during the Enlightenment Era.
To begin, Baruch Spinoza, a Dutch Jewish philosopher during the Enlightenment era, began to
examine the belief systems of Judaism and Christianity (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Spinoza
did believe in god but he did not support the practice of organized religion or the following of
religious scriptures (Thinkers of the Enlightenment).Spinoza felt strongly that ethics determined by
rational thought were more important as a guide to conduct than religion (Thinkers of the
Enlightenment). This illustrates Spinoza s emphasis on rationalism in helping to undermine the

Voltaire was critical of the popular philosophies during his time particularly the notion of a divine
right of kings which proposed that god gave monarchs the right to rule (ThoughtCo.com, adapted

government in which the power lies in the hands of the people and their elected representatives,
with an elected president at the top, as opposed to a monarch (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). This
demonstrates Voltaire s role in diminishing the power of the church in

Analysis Of The Movie Hurt, Nine Inch Nails
Hurt is a song that was written by Trent Reznor of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails in
1994 from the album The Downward Spiral. It received positive reviews, even receiving a
Grammy award nomination for best rock song in 1996 ( Hurt, Nine Inch Nails Song ). Reznor in
Cleveland, Ohio founded the Nine Inch Nailsin 1988. Reznor is the main producer, singer,
songwriter, and instrumentalist of the band as well as the only official member of the group ( Nine
Inch Nails ). Country music artist Johnny Cashreceived critical acclaim when he covered Hurtwith
reviews saying that Cash s version was much better than the original done by Reznor. Johnny
Cash is considered to be one of the most influential and best selling artists of the 20th century.
Most of Cash s music contained themes of sadness, sorrow, and moral tribulations, which made
Reznor s Hurt a perfect cover for Cash ( Johnny Cash ). Hurt is the type song someone listens to
when they have the kind of day that makes them feel alone. Everything you thought you knew was
wrong, people stab you in the back, and everything you used to believe in has vanished. You re left
with nothing at the end of the day, feeling depressed and miserable, that is what Hurt is about. Hurt
makes you realize you re not the only one in the world that suffers these pains because everyone
goes through them. It then leaves the listeners feeling as if they are not alone anymore; they can
start to relate to the loneliness and misery that the song

Financial Ratios Analysis and Comparison Paper
Financial Ratios Analysis and Comparison Paper

June 7, 2014
Abstract
It is important for healthcare organizations to understand their present performance and weak areas
in order to generate more effective operational strategies. Financial ratio analysis is an effective
tool to determine hospital s performance on several indicators such as ability to pay debt,
capability to generate revenue, and sales performance etc. The objective of this paper is to
describe role of different financial ratios in understanding organizational performance and in
developing new strategy. The paper also presents comparative ratio analysis of local healthcare
organization and industry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the authors, ratio analysis is very effective way to measure financial performance of
hospitals (Burkhardt Wheeler, 2013). The authors mentioned about two major types of ratios
important in healthcare industry i.e. return on investment and operating profit. Generally financial
ratios can be divided in four major categories: liquidity ratios; assets turnover ratios; debt ratios;
and profitability ratios. These financial ratios cover all major dimensions of business performance;
hence a manager should include these ratios in his report (Cleverley et al., 2011).
Liquidity Ratios:
These ratios help company in determining its capability to pay short term debts. Liquidity ratios
inform about, how quickly a firm can obtain cash by liquidating its current assets in order to pay
its liabilities. General liquidity ratios are: current ratio and quick ratio. Current ration can be
obtain by dividing company s current assets by its current liabilities. Generally a current ratio of
two is considered as good (Cleverley et al., 2011). Quick ratio also known as acid test determines
company s liabilities that need to be fulfilled on urgent basis. Quick ratio can be obtained by
dividing quick assets by current liabilities. Quick ratio is considered as stricter because it excludes
inventories from current assets. Generally a quick ratio of 1:1 is considered as good for the
company. Higher quick

I Am A Native Staten Islander
I am a native Staten Islander. Both my parents and set of grandparents were born on Staten Island
as well, so it s no surprise I was too. Much of my family lives on Staten Island and my whole
childhood memories and reflections are all based off being Staten Island. I do appreciate the
childhood memories I have as well as some of the people I have met, but I have mixed feelings
overall about where I am from and most days I do not like it. I definitely agree it has both it s pro s
and con s at times.
As much as I hate to admit it, there are things I enjoy about Staten Island. Most of these things
come from believe it or not, the few tourist attractions Staten Island is home of. The architecture
on Staten Island isn t bad. I think the Verazzano Narrows bridge speaks volume when it comes to
that, which connects from Staten Island to Long Island and is visible from a spot in all 5
boroughs. My personal favorite starts with the Historic Richmond Town which was founded as the
Staten Island Historical Society in 1856. The museum s focus creates opportunities for the public
to explore the diversity of the American experience from the colonial period to the present.
Richmond town is 100 acres consisting of 28 historic buildings dating from the late 17th to early
20th centuries, half still standing at their original locations which makes the experience visiting
overall more realistic and interesting. Another reason I like Staten Island is because of Fort

Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable...
ABSTRACT
Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major
advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for
quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure,
pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually
extract the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is
subjected to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The
problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for
clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this
method, clusters are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements
representing the clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the
clustering process such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster
representation.

Mexican Immigration Research Paper
THE MODERN ERA
In 2014, 35 million Americans identified as Hispanic, of whom 64 percent said they had Mexican
heritage almost 11 percent of the total population. As birthrates for Hispanics exceed those of
Anglos, demographers estimate that by 2042 non Hispanic whites will be a numerical minority in
the United States. At the beginning of this century, there were twenty one states where Hispanics
were the largest ethnic minority.
As a consequence, the nature of assimilation historically a conflicting process for Southwestern
Anglos and Mexican Americans is likely to become less a matter of conformity to Anglo socials
norms and more a process of cultural pluralism.
The concept of cultural pluralism suggests that immigrants should assimilate to American culture
by enriching American traditions with those that other cultures bring with them, expanding the
American cultural landscape of art, cuisine, education, history, law, music, language, medicine and
other aspects of life.
Most recently, studies by the Pew Charitable Trust demonstrate that the number of illegal
immigrants from Mexico entering the United States has actually been declining, resulting in a net
negative number of Mexican immigrants entering the United States. Reasons for this trend include
the Great Recession of 2008, and an improving economy in Mexican, making it more attractive for
Mexicans to stay in Mexico. In addition, stepped up U.S. border enforcement has reduced the

The Positive Benefits Of Community Service
Community service is when you do volunteer work for free to benefit the people in need in your
community. Usually, students who choose to do community service do so as volunteers, because
they feel the need to help out their communities. Community service has many positive effects on
students such as giving them they need in life to be successful in the future such as, certain
skills they can help to improve the quality of life for others. There are plenty ways that you can
do this, such as working in a church group, joining your local food kitchen or you can create your
own campaign project. When you re working on campaigns and projects and getting to see results,
you ll get to know how your strengths can make a difference in this world.
The act of service is really beneficial towards society. Volunteeringallows students to become more
involved in their communities. Sometimes students don t see how important volunteering are is the
country and to many small organizations in their own communities. This world would be a much
worse if no volunteers showed up to work. Volunteers are behind many things that we take for
granted. When major hurricanes hit the coast or when wildfires burn up, people who volunteer are
major factors in helping victims get out of trouble safe, fed, and back to how they lived before.
Without these people, many people in need would not be able to get food. Our parks and
communities would be much dirtier and our children wouldn t have the help of volunteer tutors and
mentors. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) there was 62.6
million Americans volunteered 7.7 billion hours of work in 2013. The estimated value of this work
is almost $173 billion. This all includes raising money for important causes; collecting, preparing,
and giving out food to people who need it; providing labor and transportation; tutoring and
mentoring youth; and lending professional expertise. Volunteering also gives you professional
benefits because volunteering is a great way to find different interests that our out there in your

2.10.1.5.2 RIP Timers RIP has four basic timers
1)Update Timer indicates how regularly the router will send out a routing table update.
2)Invalid Timer indicates how long a route will remain in a routing table before being marked as
invalid, if no new updates are heard about this route. The invalid timer will be reset if an update is
received for that fussy route before the timer expires. A route marked as invalid is not immediately
removed from the routing table. Instead, the route is marked with a metric of 16, indicating it is
unreachable, and placed in a hold down state.

Upward Mobility
Melessa Favreault in her report titled discrimination and upward mobility, aims to determine if
racism upsets upward mobility particularly among African Americans. For this report, Melessa
defines racism as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal
justice system, or market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an
ascribed characteristic, like age, race, or gender (1). The report exemplified that in fact, among
African Americanfamilies, downward mobility is more expected than upward mobility, residential
segregation is a threat to upward mobility, and discrimination is present in both labor and housing
markets.

A subject that is more thoroughly touched upon in the textbook. According to the textbook,
segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging
to the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these
communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and
unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality
schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime
(299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high
exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The
report states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and
one of the most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of
acknowledgement of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in
perceptions of the prevalence of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view
discrimination as a problem (4). As long as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much
its prevalence is denied, institutional racism continues to promote unequal opportunity among the
African American population in America.
Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of
African Americans. Racist practices towards blacks in the capitalist housing market strikingly
lessons prospects of upward mobility by promoting racially segregated neighborhoods that offer
less in the way of social infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals and subject residents to crime

Wagner, asking him to pick one he preferred. To Bruckner s delight, Wagner chose the Third, and
Bruckner dedicated the symphonyto the master he highly respected. After getting home, Bruckner
continued to work on the symphony, finishing the finale on 31 December 1873.[5]
According to an anecdote, Bruckner and Wagner drank so much beer together that, upon arriving
home, Bruckner realized that he had forgotten which symphony Wagner had chosen. He wrote a

The Stanford Prison Experiment By Dr. Philip Zimbardo
The Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted by Dr. Philip Zimbardo of the Stanford
psychology department in the summer of 1971. The goal of the experiment was to witness how
power and control or lack thereof can affect the behavior and personality of an individual in a
group setting (specifically in a prisonenvironment). It was also meant to display how roles, labels,
and social expectations might affect such a situation. While the experimentwas originally intended to
last for fourteen days, it was abruptly ended by Zimbardo on Day 6 after being convinced that the
occurrences within the mock prison were immoral. Despite the longevity of the experiment being
cut short, many relevant and intriguing observations had been made.

Mad Men Symbolism
The 1960 s was still in the midst of the throwaway society. Everyone wanted everything new.
Anything that was old or outdated was thrown into the garbage. There was no talk about
recycling. In one scene Don is having a picnic with his family and when they are done, don s wife
flips over the picnic blanket and scatters their leftover litter everywhere, don also throws his
finished beer can into the lake. The symbolism is that they are materialistic. They check their
hands, so they don t dirty the car, but it s okay to pollute the property they don t own.
Unhealthy habits were not questioned in the 1960 s. Consequently, as long as everyone got
along and looked the part an unhealthy habit was ignored. Advertisement dominated many
people s decision making reasoning. If people saw an ad encouraging smoking they wanted to
smoke as well. You never second guessed what you were told or else you were thought of as a
rebel or someone who went against the grains of society. Such as Smoking in the 1960 s was the
thing to do; it was not questioned. It would be equivalent to owning a cell phone today or not
owning one. You are considered odd if you didn t follow along. Roger Sterling is one character in
Mad Men rarely seen without a glass of vodka in his hand even at work. Drinking and smoking on
the job was the social norm, as long as everyone behaved, it was accepted.
Women s role in society was to behave and shape themselves to fit into men s ideals. Peggy upon

Not Enough Supporting Research for Addiction in Free...
So what? After reading Bruce Alexander s and Stefa Shaler s essay Addiction in Free Markets ,
this would be the first reaction of many readers, as it was my reaction upon completion of the
essay. Although Alexander and Shaler discussed a very important issue concerning Addiction in
Free Markets , they do not provide sufficient resources or correlative research to prove their
argument. Firstly, their thesis statement does not agree with many of the facts and statements that
are being presented throughout the essay. Moreover, the essay sidetracks from what it is trying to
prove to other aspects in life that are not related with the topic, and the transition of paragraphs is
also not smooth. Also, the centuries of English and Native... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The we in this statement is ambiguous, and does not clearly define what vast majority group they
are referring to. Although a historical context can prove to be useful in many cases while reading a
piece of literature, in some cases it can prove to be quite wordy and unnecessary. Moreover, I
believe there are instances where phrases, such as ... must not be distorted by personal loyalties,
village or neighbourhood responsibilities, guild or union rights, charity, family obligations, ethnic
tastes and aversions, social rules, or religious values... (229) are just put in there for the sake of
saying something. That statement, as others in the opening paragraphs, does not have anything to
do with what the authors are trying to get across to the national body. Moving onwards, there is a
disassociation between the thesis and the arguments that support the thesis. While the thesis is
stating that an individual must ...find that they develop substitute lifestyles in order to endure
(230), and then further along stating that Canadian natives have the racial inability to control
alcohol (231); it almost seems that their issue is contradicting that statement. How can it be that an
inability to control alcohol is the same as developing a substitute lifestyle? On a similar note,
Alexander and Shaler state that the key to controlling addiction is maintaining a society in which
every member is included in a larger

We are in a mist of depression, both economically and emotionally. Even though the government
can t make a stance in this economic crisis, we won t recover because of unemployment, gas
prices, funding for housing, human development, and health care for the aging and disabled.
Unemployment has increased to an all time high in the year of 2011. The government is at a
constant battle with each other, while we as Americans are in a struggle to survive. It has been

The Economic Downfall7 Health care is an endless issue that we are facing. Health care is needed
to prevent, treat and manage illnesses. But, managing the United States economically makes it hard
for funding of our health care. There are many advantages to our health care system. Having
Medicare or Medicaid helps fund our individual medical costs. Both of these insurances are funded
through our government for every individual that cannot afford to pay for health care for

Themes In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, is a poem, or even a tale many
readers will relate to. It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the
individual is faced with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost
throughout. His use of imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub thoughts is
extraordinary, yet he does it with such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it
reads and view the story of a solemn travelerpacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual
text one sees that Frost is trying to paint a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is
written a way that anybody who reads it can understand and relate. From each of the simple lines
to the groupings of intricately placed words, this work of art brings out the meaning and passion in
a well lived life. In the first stanzathe setting is laid out before us. A fork in the road in the middle
of a yellow wood. These two paths are unknown to the solemn traveler. The first line in the poem
states yellow wood, which gives the feeling that it would be more of an autumn season. The
autumn season is the beginning of dormancy in the forest life. It also signals the nearing end of
another joyous year. In life we have cycles just like the seasons cycle. Periods of new growth
such as spring or a new relationship perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying the things we have
to the fullest. There is fall, when something nears to an end such as a vacation, the ending of the
year or maybe childhood when one must think about getting out in the world. Then, there is
winter: the darker portion of the cycle of life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to
begin or praying for the hurt to subside.
This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the
road or the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new
path. Just as it is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the
next set of choices or paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both.
Just as the traveler we, too, must choose a path for ourselves.

Hydrogen Isotopes And Radioactive Isotopes
Distinguish between stable and radioactive isotopes and describe the conditions under which a
nucleus is unstable.
An isotope refers to elements that have different mass numbers with the same number of protons
and similar chemical and physical properties but a greater number of neutrons for example carbon
has 3 isotopes including carbon ((_6^12)C), carbon 13 ((_6^13)C) and carbon 14 ((_6^14)C).
The difference between stable and radioactive isotopes lies in their ability to emit radiation. That is
stable isotopes are unable to emit radiation whereas radioactive isotopes are capable of emitting
radiation such as Alpha particles О± (helium nucleus), Beta ОІ particles (fast moving electron) and
gamma Оі particles (high energy electromagnetic rays). An Isotopes stability is dependent on it
neutron to proton ratio for example elements are generally stable if in the lighter elements (those
with atomic numbers less than 20) for example lithium, the neutron to proton ratio is 1:1 and in
heavier elements (those with atomic numbers from 79 83) are stable if the ratio is 1.5:1. Also any
element with an atomic number greater than 83 is naturally radioactive as they are composed of an
unstable nucleus for example promethium ((_61^145)Pm). An element may also be classified as
unstable/radioactive if:
It has too many protons and neutron:
This results in the nucleus becoming too heavy and releasing alpha particles for example: cadmium
releases alpha particles and becomes palladium

A Speech On A Quiet Summer Night Essay
Introduction
On a quiet summer night on June 17, 2015 a 19 year old young man, wearing a gray sweatshirt,
dark jeans and Timberlands, walked into a historic, pre civil war era church. There was no lock
preventing his entry. There was no security guard he had to walk by. There was only a security
camera that would catch his unassuming entrance. Once inside he sat quietly as the regular
attendees held a small prayer service. He was welcomed and sat with the small group as they
read the word of God. No one could tell from his demeanor or his appearance he was there to do
unthinkable harm to those inside. And without provocation or warning he began to shoot one
unarmed person after another, after another. He took the necessary time needed to ensure each
shot was a lethal shot as most of the parishners were dead before emergency medical attention
would arrive. The armed gunman was not concerned he would be stopped by any of those inside
Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. He was not concerned any of his
victims would have a firearm that could be used against him. Why? Maybe it s because people of
worship feel safe enough inside their house of worship. Therefore, a firearm is unnecessary.
Maybe it s because even legal Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) holders cannot freely carry a
firearm inside a church. No matter the reason, no one inside the church felt compelled to carry a
concealed weapon that fateful night in Charleston, South Carolina.

Using Complex Numbers In Circuit Analysis
Complex Analysis:
Complex analysis, traditionally known as the theory of functions of a complex variable, is the
branch of mathematical analysis that investigates functions of complex numbers. It is useful in
many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, number theory, applied mathematics;
as well as in physics, including hydrodynamics and thermodynamics and also in engineering fields
such as nuclear, aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering.
Murray R. Spiegel described complex analysis as one of the most beautiful as well as useful
branches of Mathematics .

Take a look at the equations in the previous section. The addition and subtraction equations do not
mix up the real and imaginary parts, but the equations for multiplication and division do.
Multiplying a complex number by a real constant also obviously does not mix up the real and
imaginary parts. Essentially, a linear equation is one that will not mix up the real and imaginary
parts of the voltages and currents. From a practical standpoint, a linear circuit is one that includes
only passive components (resistors, capacitors, and inductors) plus voltage and/or current sources.
No diodes, transistors, vacuum tubes, etc. are allowed. It is perhaps worth mentioning here that the
same formalism, with the same advantages of using complex numbers, works in mechanics when
dealing with small, harmonic oscillations of mechanical systems. voe^(j(wt)) or Io e^(j(wt)) where
the phase can be taken to be zero if there is only one source. Otherwise the relative phases of the

We Must Put an End to Frivolous Inmate Lawsuits
Our forefathers were bright enough to establish a system of government with a series of checks
and balances to maintain a balanced government. For the past decade a series of checks and
balances has begun to fail our government. In our failing system of government inmates have taken
advantage of the court system and have flooded it with an inconceivable number of frivolous
lawsuits. Laurel Walters, a writer for the Christian Science Monitor, investigated inmates lawsuits
and found that these recreational litigators...are suing the courts as an intramural sports activity.

These frivolous lawsuits are costing law abiding tax payers billion every year.
Frivolous lawsuits can be found in every state around the nation. In New York inmates have sued
over bad haircuts and melted ice cream and their constitutional right to use beige towels instead of
white ones. (New York Times, B2). In Texas an inmate claimed he was subject to cruel and unusual
punishment because he was served chunky instead of smooth peanut butter. In Massachusetts a
recaptured prison escapee sued because the state threw out the personal property he left behind.
Lloyd Duhaime a writer for the Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse quotes one extreme case that took
place in California. The ingenuity of this following lawsuit goes without parallel. An inmate filed a
$5 million lawsuit against himself (claiming he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested)
but insisted the state pay because he was a ward of the state (web site).
A by product of these frivolous cases are skyrocketing costs. Paper work costs, clerical costs,
lawyers and court fees accompany every case. Even for the most frivolous of lawsuits all of
these costs must be paid. Most often this bill is paid by tax payers as inmates are able to claim
pauper status to avoid the bills. By the time a case comes before a judge with the ability to toss it
out, the costs associated with the case can run as high as $4,500. Obviously, something needs to be
done.

Analysis Of Sweet Sweetback s Baadasssss Song And ...
In both Sweet Sweetback s Baadasssss Song and Do the Right Thing the relationship between
blackness and violence fluctuates between a mode of aggression and a tool of survival. Both
films consistently attempt to represent violence by blacks as a symptom of white dominance
and brutality. In Sweet Sweetback black violence is perceived by the dominant white
institutions (i.e. the police and the officers) as an act of intentional aggression. White perception
deems that blacks will be violent both physically and sexually because they are naturally violent.
It is the responsibility of the whites to protect society from the hypersexual, hyper violent black
male (Class Discussions, 2014). Such is the case when police officers storm the hotel room in
search of Sweetback only to find a black male naked with a white woman in the bed, presumably
after having sex. The officers were quick to physically attack both individuals, though the black
man received a longer and harsher punishment. Their response highlights the taboo nature of
black and white relations in Sweetback as well as the dominant fear of black males as sexual
aggressors who take advantage of white women whenever possible (Class Discussions, 2014).
The film is careful to frame Sweetback s violence as self defense; he is only violent when he
absolutely has to be, not because he simply wants to be violent. By framing Sweetback s actions in
this way, the film establishes the idea that black violence is a tool of

beneficial to him to be placed within a care home.
This essay will discuss all aspects of Mr Williams stay within hospital and his options with regards
to future care beyond discharge.
On admission to hospital a nurse would implement a care plan to help Mr Williams through his
time in hospital. A care plan aims to meet the individual needs of a patient and one highly used
approach can be defined as a person centered. This was first developed by Dr Carl Rogers
between the 1940s and 1960s and was considered radical and at the time revolutionary. His theory
pushed towards the individual to seek out and fulfil their own personal potential whilst the
therapist would create an environment where a person would psychologically and physically feel
free from any threat, this would ultimately be achieved by a positive, genuine and empathetic
setting created by the therapist. These ideas have since been transferred to many roles where
people are in relationships such as childcare, teaching and patient care as is the case with Mr

Gatorade s Short Independent Clause
Compared to Rovell, Mattern chose to use very basic sentence structures that would be easy for
a juvenile level reader to understand. Mattern often uses short independent clauses that include a
variety of subject, verb, and object sentence constructions. Which on occasion include limited
use of dependent clauses creating a complex sentence. Mattern However, in doing so she missed
several critical events in Gatorade s history that aid in telling a more complete story. For
example So by 1971, UF filed a lawsuit against Cade and the other doctors. Finally in July 1972,
the doctors agreed to give the school 20 percent of Gatorade s total earnings. (Mattern, 21). When
she explains the lawsuit between Robert Cade and the University of Florida over

Global Warming Is One Of The Biggest Concerns To Our Planet.
Global Warming is one of the biggest concerns to our planet. As of right now, ice caps are melting,
sea temperatures have risen, and animals have changed their migrating patterns. Not only this, but
plants are blooming earlier and fish are migrating towards cooler water. These effects are not just a
coincidence. Mankind is causing the decline of our earthat a rapid pace from pollution, to cutting
downs trees, and countless other activities. This form of climate changeis destroying ecosystems,
killing wildlife, and damaging our planet. Mankind must take a stand to become more eco friendly
and save the earth―before it is too late.

3). The greenhouse effect can not be stopped entirely, since it is a natural occurrence; however,
there are solutions mankind can take to reduce its effects on our planet. Some may argue that
humans are not the main cause of global warming, but science proves otherwise. Although humans
do cause a cooling process on the earth, it is significantly smaller, and it is not enough to balance
out the warming effect. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, as cited in the NOAA
states, Earth s average surface temperature has risen by about 1.5 degrees fahrenheit since 1880
[due to human activities] (2007, p. 3). This number may seem small in perspective, but in reality,
the earth should maintain the same temperature and that is not what is happening; consequently,
earth s temperature has been rapidly changing more than it ever has before. The main reason this
number is so large is because of the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution was a period of
time where machines and manufacturing flourished. Although it was good for the economy, it was
deadly for the earth. This spike in machinery was ultimately the leading start of a chain of events
that lead to why global warming is at the highest it has ever been. Such a dramatic rise in
temperature in over these short years is an obvious sign that the earth is warming.

Law is a major factor that Durkheim basis a lot off. A sort of symbolism and order to social life
two types of law can be observed. Repressive law (punishing the guilty) and Restitutive law
(restoring correctives to the offender). Durkheim applied that more mechanical solidarity.
Anomie is introduced as the deregulation that was occurring society. He sheds the light on how
people were supposed to act with each other were breaking down and at a time didn t know what
to except from each other. Anomy literally translates the state or condition of individuals or

Max Weber in 1922 writes Bureaucracy , where weber believed that structured organizations is a
formal, rigid authoritative figure, whereas Weber was referring to the types of businesses that
ran their organization like a family type, informal structure. He believed that those in a
managerial position should be appointed due to their levels of professionalism and expertise. The
principle of office hierarchy and of channels of appeal stipulate a clearly established system if
super and subordination in which there is a supervision of the lower offices by the higher ones
(Weber 2007: p.265). Weber explains in his writings that the old ways such as feudalism in his time
should be done away with, and that society changes their structure to a more organization of
hierarchical principle. For

Most of the time when you think of Jerry Lee Lewis, you think of the song Great Balls of Fire,
or Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On, . That is ,because they both were rated #1 on the pop, country,

sales for Jerry s songs were 5,000 sales for the songs, Breathless, and High School Confidential,

movies, or even performed by other musicians. Not everyone may have known it was originally
his song, but people who did know him, loved him for those songs! Also, if you see a man
singing while standing on the piano or using their arms and feet, you can know, right away, that
it is Jerry. Jerry was wacky on the piano. Sometimes he even set it on fire (Carlin, 2006)! Most of
the things that Jerry was well known for were his insane acts! All those were great, but they were

Literature Review On Teachers Using Inquiry-Based...
There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based
instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However,
most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit
plans and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Doing unit plans and
lessons with an inquiry based approach works very well because of limited time elementary
teachers have. A lot of times teacher can create integrated or cross curricular unit plans, which
helps meet the demands of the curriculum. Developed in the 1960 s, many teachers see inquiry
based learning as a new pedagogy (Guido, 2017). However, Minner, Levy Century (2009) suggest

Analysis Of De Sade s The Misfortunes Of Virtue
Whether or not you accede with the themes in Marquis De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue , there
is no doubt his works are some of the most inciting to have ever been constructed. Although
Marquis debates several beliefs in his works, he focuses on one in The Misfortunes of Virtue that
seems shaky. The theory of Vice versus Virtue in the words of De Sade has no logical aspect to it,
at least to a down to earth humanbeing . De Sade once said, In order to know virtue, we must first
acquaint ourselves with vice. De Sade s conception of vice and virtue is nowhere near what we
perceive it to be. Though, through the utilization of multiple characters, his neutral stance and
erroneous logic, we as readers can sift through the differences and visually perceive the authentic
meaning of vice and virtue by using common day human logic and experiences to construct a
more up to date version of De Sade s Vice and Virtue . Throughout De Sade s Misfortunes of
Virtue his writing is meant to have a neutral stance and come off in a way that De Sade lives
vicariously through the characters in order to display his beliefs. With his characters, De Sade
argues the theory of Vice versus Virtue and attempts to make the example that there simply is no
difference between the two. De Sade believes There is only human kind s selfish goal of self
preservation and seeking pleasure . According to Webster s dictionary, virtue is defined as: the
moral excellence of a person. A morally excellent

Psychological Theories In Mean Girls
Introduction Psychologists all over the world have studied the complexity of adolescents and
their behaviors through out this stage of the human life span. In the movie, Mean Girls,
(Waters, 2004) Lindsay Lohan portrays the main actress known as Cady Herron. Unlike most
teens, Cady was raised in Africa, with her parents as Zoologists. She was homeschooled for all
of her school years, and this would be the first attempt at public school. Cady like most
adolescents, finds herself in a rock and a hard place when she is caught between real friendship
and the fake ego plastic one. From the view of a Developmental Psychologist, there are several
key factors and theories strongly influencing Cady and her behaviors during this time in her life.
Moral emotions, moral reasoning, forging a sense of identity, and self esteem are among the
few that were chosen to take emphases on. Moral Emotion Moral emotion is classified under
Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory along with empathy, prosocial behavior, and antisocial
behavior. (Life Span, 2015, 2012, pp. 35 40) All are behaviors and stages that Cady is
experiencing at this time in her life. Moral emotions, both positive and negative, require being
able to evaluate whether you or others have exceeded or fallen short of standards of behaviors.
Cady shows signs of antisocial behavior when she works up a plan with best friend Janis Ian to
take down Regina George Queen Bee of the Plastics. She feels that even though she is pretending

Sealed Air Corporation is the market leader in coated air bubble products in North America and

Changing Mind In The Film Cars By Lightning Mcqueen

hard to do and maybe you re just not ready for a change. Change can happen in anything, nature,

the beginning of the movie, Lightning McQueen starts off as being very arrogant and cocky. He
thinks he is all that. You can tell by his actions that all he wants is the fame and the money. He
never really thinks about anybody besides himself. A prime example of this is when he is going

  • 2. The Indian Removal And The Colonization Of The United... Between the years 1816 and 1850, over one hundred thousand Indians from sixty different tribes were relocated from their homelands and moved west; around thirty thousand Indians would die en route. The Indian Removal stands as one of the cruelest periods in the history of the United States, and is the result of a long history of war and disagreement between whites and Indians. Indians and Europeans had their differences. The culture of the Indian tribes was very different than that of the incoming white settlers. Indian nations held a deep respect for nature, and felt that the land belonged to no individual. The white European settlers believed in private land ownership. However, in spite of these differences, some white settlers and Indians developed successful trade relationships. Still, Indians were long regarded as savages by white Europeans . Spaniards treated them with extreme brutality, imprisoning Indians and confiscating their lands. And as time passed, Indians and Europeans would begin to fight over land claims. 200 years later, Indians and Europeans had several written treaties, but the Europeans often ignored the treaties and encroached on Native territory. Indians sought ways to stop the settlers from taking their lands, sometimes turning to war. In the American Revolutionary War, most Indians fought on the side of the British. Indians believed that Britain was the better option for winning the war, as they hoped the British would help curb the expansion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. While I Fully Believe That It Is Important To Understand While I fully believe that it is important to understand what happens in the past, I believe that what we experience in the present is just as important. Throughout the semester this class, values and ethics, has helped me to understand not only the actions of myself, but the actions of those around me in the past as well. This class has taught me what it means to have values and morals, as well as how important it is to accept the values and morals of others. Meeting and being around people who had different morals and values than I did, is something that I have never really been around, so this class was both positive and negative for me. Growing up in East Tennessee has always been a dream come true, there is not another place on this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Religion to many people, myself included, is the basis of who they are. Jong explains the role of religious leaders, within a person s value system. Over the course of this semester, I have leaned on my religious views to get me through, each morning before class, I sit in my car and read my bible. Then, coming into class, I apply my religious thoughts to the topic of the day, it is amazing just how much that alone changed my views. Throughout the semester, my values have not really been altered that much. I have however, accepted people s opinions that are way different from mine. I have heard numerous people talk about why they think like they do and where they get their morals from. There have been many times that the people that are in my group, or sit around me have said things that I do not agree with at all, but instead of arguing, I listened. While I did not agree with them, in some instances I agreed with their reasoning behind things, and I think that is important. I think this class is a lot about learning that everyone is not the same, and that everyone is always going to have a differnt opinion than you do, and for the first time I think that is ok. This course has defiantly taught me a lot about stereotype, not just that I have but that everyone else around me has as well. Coming into the class, I never expected it to be like it has been. I expected it to just be lectures from a book, but this class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cause And Effects Of Tsunami In Japan In March of 2011, a magnitude 9 earthquake hit Japan, releasing a dangerous tsunami. Japan was not expecting the magnitude of the earthquake and tsunami, and endured much hardship after the disaster. The effects of the tsunami can still be seen in Japan today through its residents, economy, and through actions that have been taken to further protect residents from future disasters. Though the Japan 2011 tsunamiis one of the most destructive tsunamis ever recorded, dangerous tsunamis continue to take place across the globe. The Japan 2011 tsunami not only affected the inhabitants of Japan, but also affected people around the world. After disasters such as this, each area must endure the aftermath of the disaster and recover from the effects. A tsunami is a series of huge waves occurring when there is a major disturbance on the ocean floor. Tsunamis often occur due to earthquakes, volcanoes, or landslides (Park 16). Underwater earthquakes may produce waves that travel in all different directions. Some tsunamis lose power and die out under water, others may produce large waves as they approach land. Tsunamis may look like an onrushing tidal wave as they approach land, but do not occur because of tides (Park 6). Their walls of water can move across the open ocean at speeds of up to 560 miles per hour. When the waves hit the coast, they can reach up to 100 feet (Park 5). The tsunami in Japan is believed to have occurred after two of Earth s tectonic plates collided in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Asian-American Stereotypes Asian culture has been slandered throughout America s history by the term Model Minority , and through it s toxic ideals has lead to outstanding rates of depression, and the inhumane backlash has proven fatal to the Asian American population. The term Model Minority was coined to categorize Asian Americans in 1966, during the United Statescivil liberties movement. During this time period white politicians were in a state of agitation because African Americans were demanding their civil rights(Chin). The stereotype associated with the term model minority is a suffocating archetype that has been pushed onto Asian Americans; this degrading term has a harsh history that has led to heinous social pressures and implications, along with detrimental... • 6. Daniel Levinson s Theory Of Middle Adulthood Middle adulthood refers to the time period between 45 and 65, in which adults have settled down and are now contemplating their place in the world. It s during middle adulthood that adults now are faced with the effort of passing on something meaningful to future generations. The theories associated with middle adulthood describe the different aspects that are important during middle adulthood, from personality developmentto vital relationships. Examining these aspects can help one to gain a better understanding of the development that occurs during middle adulthood. One theory that describes the way in which personality develops during this time is Erikson s theory. Erikson s theory refers to middle adulthood as the stage of generativity versus stagnation; generativity describes the passing on of a legacy from one generation to the next, where stagnation is the lack of passing on such a legacy. Generativity can be accomplished by bearing offspring, guiding and nurturing children, and passing on life skills and culture. It s during this stage that adults try to lead the next generation by teaching, guiding, and participating in activities that benefit the community (Santrock, 2017, pg. 487). Another theory associated with personality during middle age is Daniel Levinson s Seasons of a Man s Life. According to Levinson s theory, there are seven stages of life, with each stage consisting of a transitional period and a stable period. The first of his seven stages is the ... • 7. Animal Rights At Factory Farms Madison Bowdish Dr. Brian Onishi PHIL 229 15 Dec 2016 Animal Rights in Factory Farms The idea that industrial farming is bad for the environment is well known, but what people do not think about is horrible practice of factory farms within industrial farming. Factory farms are inhumane and not only because the animal is being slaughtered, but because of the way the animals are treated before the are killed. A person would think that if they were to be innocently killed that they would want to be treated with respect and dignity before they die. In this paper, I will argue that animals have rights through a utilitarian view and that they should not be treated in an inhumane way. The framework I plan to discuss is Peter Singer s utilitarian view on animal rights. A general idea of what utilitarianismis can be described as the need for the many outweigh the needs of a few, or majority rule when it comes to happiness. Singer s criteria for how a being gets rights is based on the ability to feel pleasure or pain. With this criteria it allows people who are mentally handicapped, the senile, and babies to have rights (Hozien). Most would agree that it would be cruel to not give these people rights, so Singer argues that since animals can feel pain and pleasure they also have rights. Although he believes that they should be treated equal he does admit that there is a range or difference of pain. He equates this to racism or in this case speciesism. For instance he states that ... During the enlightenment era, philosophers from Europe began to question the standard practices used to maintain the social order of society. The concepts of religion, government, and politics were all called into question by the great thinkers of Europe during this time. Baruch Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were 3 great thinkers of the enlightenment era who questioned the role of religionin maintaining social order (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Baruch Spinoza, Voltaire, and David Hume were all important philosophers who helped decrease the power of the church in Europe during the Enlightenment Era. To begin, Baruch Spinoza, a Dutch Jewish philosopher during the Enlightenment era, began to examine the belief systems of Judaism and Christianity (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Spinoza did believe in god but he did not support the practice of organized religion or the following of religious scriptures (Thinkers of the Enlightenment).Spinoza felt strongly that ethics determined by rational thought were more important as a guide to conduct than religion (Thinkers of the Enlightenment). Most of Cash s music contained themes of sadness, sorrow, and moral tribulations, which made Reznor s Hurt a perfect cover for Cash ( Johnny Cash ). Hurt is the type song someone listens to when they have the kind of day that makes them feel alone. Everything you thought you knew was wrong, people stab you in the back, and everything you used to believe in has vanished. You re left with nothing at the end of the day, feeling depressed and miserable, that is what Hurt is about. Hurt makes you realize you re not the only one in the world that suffers these pains because everyone goes through them. According to the authors, ratio analysis is very effective way to measure financial performance of hospitals (Burkhardt Wheeler, 2013). The authors mentioned about two major types of ratios important in healthcare industry i.e. return on investment and operating profit. Generally financial ratios can be divided in four major categories: liquidity ratios; assets turnover ratios; debt ratios; and profitability ratios. These financial ratios cover all major dimensions of business performance; hence a manager should include these ratios in his report (Cleverley et al., 2011). Liquidity Ratios: These ratios help company in determining its capability to pay short term debts. Liquidity ratios inform about, how quickly a firm can obtain cash by liquidating its current assets in order to pay its liabilities. General liquidity ratios are: current ratio and quick ratio. Current ration can be obtain by dividing company s current assets by its current liabilities. Generally a current ratio of two is considered as good (Cleverley et al., 2011). Quick ratio also known as acid test determines company s liabilities that need to be fulfilled on urgent basis. Quick ratio can be obtained by dividing quick assets by current liabilities. Quick ratio is considered as stricter because it excludes inventories from current assets. Generally a quick ratio of 1:1 is considered as good for the company. Higher quick ... Much of my family lives on Staten Island and my whole childhood memories and reflections are all based off being Staten Island. I do appreciate the childhood memories I have as well as some of the people I have met, but I have mixed feelings overall about where I am from and most days I do not like it. I definitely agree it has both it s pro s and con s at times. As much as I hate to admit it, there are things I enjoy about Staten Island. Most of these things come from believe it or not, the few tourist attractions Staten Island is home of. The architecture on Staten Island isn t bad. I think the Verazzano Narrows bridge speaks volume when it comes to that, which connects from Staten Island to Long Island and is visible from a spot in all 5 boroughs. My personal favorite starts with the Historic Richmond Town which was founded as the Staten Island Historical Society in 1856. The museum s focus creates opportunities for the public to explore the diversity of the American experience from the colonial period to the present. Richmond town is 100 acres consisting of 28 historic buildings dating from the late 17th to early 20th centuries, half still standing at their original locations which makes the experience visiting overall more realistic and interesting. • 15. Digital Imaging Technologies Have Become Indispensable... ABSTRACT Digital imaging technologies have become indispensable components for clinical procedures. Major advances in the field of medical imaging and computer technology have created opportunity for quantitative analyses of medical images and provided powerful techniques to probe the structure, pathology and function of the human body . In medical applications, skilled operators usually extract the desired regions that may be anatomically separate but statistically indistinguishable. It is subjected to manual errors and biases, which is time consuming, and has poor reproducibility. The problem faced in clustering is the identification of clusters in given data. A widely used method for clustering is based on K means in which the data is partitioned into K number of clusters. In this method, clusters are predefined which is highly dependent on the initial identification of elements representing the clusters well. Several researchers in clustering has focused on improving the clustering process such that the clusters are not dependent on the initial identification of cluster representation. keywords : Segmentation, Clustering, Adaptive K means, digital image processing. • 16. Mexican Immigration Research Paper THE MODERN ERA In 2014, 35 million Americans identified as Hispanic, of whom 64 percent said they had Mexican heritage almost 11 percent of the total population. As birthrates for Hispanics exceed those of Anglos, demographers estimate that by 2042 non Hispanic whites will be a numerical minority in the United States. At the beginning of this century, there were twenty one states where Hispanics were the largest ethnic minority. As a consequence, the nature of assimilation historically a conflicting process for Southwestern Anglos and Mexican Americans is likely to become less a matter of conformity to Anglo socials norms and more a process of cultural pluralism. The concept of cultural pluralism suggests that immigrants should assimilate to American culture by enriching American traditions with those that other cultures bring with them, expanding the American cultural landscape of art, cuisine, education, history, law, music, language, medicine and other aspects of life. Most recently, studies by the Pew Charitable Trust demonstrate that the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico entering the United States has actually been declining, resulting in a net negative number of Mexican immigrants entering the United States. Reasons for this trend include the Great Recession of 2008, and an improving economy in Mexican, making it more attractive for Mexicans to stay in Mexico. For this report, Melessa defines racism as less favorable treatment in an important institution, like the education or criminal justice system, or market, like a labor, financial, or housing market, solely on the basis of an ascribed characteristic, like age, race, or gender (1). According to the textbook, segregation often leads to social isolation. This occurs because outsiders such as those belonging to the middle and upper working classes avoid these neighborhoods. This avoidance leaves these communities virtually cut off from the larger society and lead to a high occurrence of crime and unemployment (299). Besides these factors, these segregated neighborhoods have poor quality schools, limited medical care, and high rates of infant mortality, substance abuse, and violent crime (299). All factors that diminish chances of upward mobility. That is, a lack of education and high exposure to crime and substance abuse does not provide much in the way of opportunity. The report states that Social exclusion remains among the largest problems in our wealthy society, and one of the most troubling with respect to economic mobility (5). This could be due to a lack of acknowledgement of the problem. The report also states that, there is a disparity by race in perceptions of the prevalence of discrimination, with whites less likely than blacks to view discrimination as a problem (4). As long as there is a victim there is a crime, no matter how much its prevalence is denied, institutional racism continues to promote unequal opportunity among the African American population in America. Based on the information examined in the report, racism does in fact hinder the upward mobility of African Americans. It is a narrative of the choices in life and the crossroads in which the individual is faced with. In the lines, there is quite clarity in the decisions and feelings of Frost throughout. His use of imagery to paint beautiful landscapes and countless sub thoughts is extraordinary, yet he does it with such few words. Although one could see this poem for how it reads and view the story of a solemn travelerpacing down a road, when diving deep into its actual text one sees that Frost is trying to paint a much deeper picture. This metaphor of a poem is written a way that anybody who reads it can understand and relate. From each of the simple lines to the groupings of intricately placed words, this work of art brings out the meaning and passion in a well lived life. In the first stanzathe setting is laid out before us. A fork in the road in the middle of a yellow wood. These two paths are unknown to the solemn traveler. The first line in the poem states yellow wood, which gives the feeling that it would be more of an autumn season. The autumn season is the beginning of dormancy in the forest life. It also signals the nearing end of another joyous year. In life we have cycles just like the seasons cycle. Periods of new growth such as spring or a new relationship perhaps. Summer, where we are enjoying the things we have to the fullest. There is fall, when something nears to an end such as a vacation, the ending of the year or maybe childhood when one must think about getting out in the world. Then, there is winter: the darker portion of the cycle of life. The point in which we are waiting for the new to begin or praying for the hurt to subside. This cycle of life, and particularly the season of autumn, seems to pair up with the fork in the road or the point where the traveler is ending this stretch of road and must embark upon a new path. Just as it is in life when one period begins to draw to an end we must begin to think of the next set of choices or paths to take. Most options in life do not allow for someone to have both. • 27. Hydrogen Isotopes And Radioactive Isotopes Distinguish between stable and radioactive isotopes and describe the conditions under which a nucleus is unstable. An isotope refers to elements that have different mass numbers with the same number of protons and similar chemical and physical properties but a greater number of neutrons for example carbon has 3 isotopes including carbon ((_6^12)C), carbon 13 ((_6^13)C) and carbon 14 ((_6^14)C). The difference between stable and radioactive isotopes lies in their ability to emit radiation. That is stable isotopes are unable to emit radiation whereas radioactive isotopes are capable of emitting radiation such as Alpha particles О± (helium nucleus), Beta ОІ particles (fast moving electron) and gamma Оі particles (high energy electromagnetic rays). An Isotopes stability is dependent on it neutron to proton ratio for example elements are generally stable if in the lighter elements (those with atomic numbers less than 20) for example lithium, the neutron to proton ratio is 1:1 and in heavier elements (those with atomic numbers from 79 83) are stable if the ratio is 1.5:1. Also any element with an atomic number greater than 83 is naturally radioactive as they are composed of an unstable nucleus for example promethium ((_61^145)Pm). The armed gunman was not concerned he would be stopped by any of those inside Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. These frivolous lawsuits are costing law abiding tax payers billion every year. Frivolous lawsuits can be found in every state around the nation. In New York inmates have sued over bad haircuts and melted ice cream and their constitutional right to use beige towels instead of white ones. (New York Times, B2). In Texas an inmate claimed he was subject to cruel and unusual punishment because he was served chunky instead of smooth peanut butter. In Massachusetts a recaptured prison escapee sued because the state threw out the personal property he left behind. Lloyd Duhaime a writer for the Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse quotes one extreme case that took place in California. The ingenuity of this following lawsuit goes without parallel. An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (claiming he violated his own civil rights by getting arrested) but insisted the state pay because he was a ward of the state (web site). A by product of these frivolous cases are skyrocketing costs. Paper work costs, clerical costs, lawyers and court fees accompany every case. Even for the most frivolous of lawsuits all of these costs must be paid. Most often this bill is paid by tax payers as inmates are able to claim pauper status to avoid the bills. By the time a case comes before a judge with the ability to toss it out, the costs associated with the case can run as high as $4,500. Obviously, something needs to be done. My siblings, husband and I all gathered around the dinner table eager to hear about my father s adventures. Once we were all on the edge of our seats practically begging for him to speak he takes a long slow drink, looks each of us in the eye and says I ve had the most incredible life changing experience on this night dive. • 39. Analysis Of Sweet Sweetback s Baadasssss Song And ... In both Sweet Sweetback s Baadasssss Song and Do the Right Thing the relationship between blackness and violence fluctuates between a mode of aggression and a tool of survival. Both films consistently attempt to represent violence by blacks as a symptom of white dominance and brutality. In Sweet Sweetback black violence is perceived by the dominant white institutions (i.e. the police and the officers) as an act of intentional aggression. White perception deems that blacks will be violent both physically and sexually because they are naturally violent. It is the responsibility of the whites to protect society from the hypersexual, hyper violent black male (Class Discussions, 2014). Such is the case when police officers storm the hotel room in search of Sweetback only to find a black male naked with a white woman in the bed, presumably after having sex. The officers were quick to physically attack both individuals, though the black man received a longer and harsher punishment. Their response highlights the taboo nature of black and white relations in Sweetback as well as the dominant fear of black males as sexual aggressors who take advantage of white women whenever possible (Class Discussions, 2014). The film is careful to frame Sweetback s violence as self defense; he is only violent when he absolutely has to be, not because he simply wants to be violent. By framing Sweetback s actions in this way, the film establishes the idea that black violence is a tool of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, as cited in the NOAA states, Earth s average surface temperature has risen by about 1.5 degrees fahrenheit since 1880 [due to human activities] (2007, p. 3). This number may seem small in perspective, but in reality, the earth should maintain the same temperature and that is not what is happening; consequently, earth s temperature has been rapidly changing more than it ever has before. The main reason this number is so large is because of the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution was a period of time where machines and manufacturing flourished. Analysis Of De Sade s The Misfortunes Of Virtue Whether or not you accede with the themes in Marquis De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue , there is no doubt his works are some of the most inciting to have ever been constructed. Although Marquis debates several beliefs in his works, he focuses on one in The Misfortunes of Virtue that seems shaky. The theory of Vice versus Virtue in the words of De Sade has no logical aspect to it, at least to a down to earth humanbeing . De Sade once said, In order to know virtue, we must first acquaint ourselves with vice. De Sade s conception of vice and virtue is nowhere near what we perceive it to be. Though, through the utilization of multiple characters, his neutral stance and erroneous logic, we as readers can sift through the differences and visually perceive the authentic meaning of vice and virtue by using common day human logic and experiences to construct a more up to date version of De Sade s Vice and Virtue . Throughout De Sade s Misfortunes of Virtue his writing is meant to have a neutral stance and come off in a way that De Sade lives vicariously through the characters in order to display his beliefs. With his characters, De Sade argues the theory of Vice versus Virtue and attempts to make the example that there simply is no difference between the two.
