How Did Nero Influence Rome
Emperor Nero was the most detrimental emperor to Rome. He burned Rome so he could build Rome
as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians. Those are the
acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He has also done
some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Nero ruled Rome from 54 AD to 68
AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was changed to Nero in 49
AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians have read that Nero s fate
was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero was three, was extremely
violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young boy with his chariot as he drove
through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon hearing of the birth of his son, Nero
s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of
these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly any good could come out of it. The people of
Rome were right.
One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero
Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom he
eventually forced to commit suicide). Nero murdered his way to the imperial throne, which he
occupied from A.D. 54 68. His life was characterized by debauchery, violence (he caused his own
mother to be

Superflab Essay
This study is a comparison of three alternative bolus materials to Superflab in providing the maximum
dose buildup (Dmax). Superflab is a synthetic oil gel based on vinyl plastic composed of disodecyl
phthalate. The maximum dose buildup (Dmax) is when 100% of the dose is deposited beneath a
patient s skin. Alternative bolus materials are tissue equivalent materials placed on a patient s skin
surface to increase or even out the surface dose. The composition of alternative bolus materials can
include anything from wet gauze to Play Doh to rice. The purpose of this study is to test the Dmax for
various bolus materials when compared to Superflab.
Walker et al. (2005) performed this study to determine the differences in producing the maximum dose
buildup while using Play Doh, water soaked gauze, and Superflab. The researchers wanted to
determine if Play Doh and water soaked gauze were adequate alternatives to Superflab. At the
beginning they accurately measured the radiation doses to be less than 10.0 cGy. Next, they made each
bolus material 5 mm thick and then placed TLDs at the center of the beam where they placed each
bolus and irradiated them 5 times each. Then, they calculated the mean dose, standard ... Show more

(2013) executed this study to determine what the difference was in dose distribution when using
Superflab, wet gauze, and wet towels. The researchers believed that wet gauze and towels had the
potential to be adequate bolus substitutes, but knew the reproducibility of the gauze and towels would
be low. They measured the dimensions of each bolus material and then, irradiated each material with
various photon energies. The results showed that the Dmax changed and shifted to the surface when
they used Superflab, but Dmax did not validate a shift change in the wet gauze and towel. In
conclusion, the researchers discovered that wet gauze and wet towels are not adequate Superflab
substitutes, although this could be that each bolus had a different

Example Of Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous The name of the meeting was Grove City Wave Three Group, and it was
located at the United Methodist Church on 2710 Columbus Street in Grove City. The meeting took
place on Sunday at 7:30 pm and is held almost every Sunday. The reason I had choose this location for
the meeting was because it was near my home. When I first entered the room I was expecting the
stereotypical meeting, which is shown in movies where there is a circle of chairs in a room with no
tables. But once I entered the room, there were plenty of seats and it did not appear to be dark and
gloomy. The room was located in the basement of the church, and had the seats set were the
participants are able to see one another. I was anxious of how other members would react to my
presence, considering I was in a church. I was greeted when I entered the room. My anxiety slowly
went away, when I realized that these are people really dealing with a difficult issue in their lives. It
reminded me of how vulnerable it can be to be around others and admit to a weakness within you, to
get better. It takes a lot of courage to go to a meeting, and want to change. The members of the
meeting varied in all ages and ethnicities. There were young people as well as older people. When I
was in the meeting I was asked to introduce myself. I explained that I was a student and was interested
in learning. The participants were very understanding and did not mind at all. But it felt very awkward
for me, because I did not want to impose. One participant explained to me that there have been other
students that have attended meetings in the past. There was also another new member that came to the
meeting as well. He introduced himself, and explained his reason for coming. The others members
commended him for coming and congratulated him for attending and trying. The meeting was not
anonymous because the members had identified their first names. The meeting did not have any one
leader, but everyone in the meeting participated. There were a few participants that had roles such as
secretary, and other positions. The meeting began with an introduction, reading pledges. The focus of
the meeting was centered on reading the book Twelve Steps and Twelve

Project A Natural Disaster And Disaster Recovery Plan
In this case assignment I am to research a natural disaster, discuss if the local government has made
disaster recovery plans and whether or how the plan has been executed. Whether the plan was
effective, and how it can be improved. I am also to describe the natural disaster, when, where, how,
and what happened. Before we can understand the what, we need to make sure we understand the why
and how. We will first discuss the disaster recovery plan, what is it?.
Disaster recovery plan defines how an organization will deal with a possible disasters whether is
natural or man made. A disaster is just an event that makes the business process of normal functions
impossible or challenging. A disaster recovery plan comprises of the protections taken so that the
effects of a disaster will be mitigated and the organization will be able to continue or rapidly resume
their normal operation roles. Normally, disaster recovery planning includes an analysis or risk
assessment of the organizations processes and stability needs; it may also consist a major focus on
disaster prevention. Disaster recovery plan in the United States usually has been controlled by State
and local governments, with the Federal government as a supporting role. While we remain truthful to
the basic constitutional principle, we must also accept that events such as hurricane Katrina and the
terrorist attacks of 9/11, require the government, both local and State to tailor the application of these
principles to the

Beowulf Themes
Beowulf is an epic story that relates well to the time that it was introduced by having the stories of the
epic battles and the defeats of the treacherous monsters that kept everyone entertained during this era.
Not only does Beowulf represent the era well, but it also has very interesting characters, themes and
symbols that help teach us lessons that are very much so needed in today s society.
When Beowulf arrives to the land of the Danes, as soon as they dock and get off of their ship Beowulf
shows his courage instantly by taking the lead and explaining to the guards that watched out for
raiders and enemy ships approaching who they were and where they were from so that they may
advance to the Heorot which he had heard much about. After they get inside Heorot Beowulf truly
shows his courage when he tells Hrothgar about all of the triumphs he had when he was younger and
how when he heard of their problem with Grendel and how he planned to be a match for him so that
he could be the one to bring peace back to Heorot. He also explains how he isn t afraid of death
because if he is going to die it will happen whether he wants it to or not and by doing this he gives
king Hrothgar peace by knowing that he is courageous enough to take on this challenge and not be
afraid by the terror that his people have been facing for the last 12 years.
Not only is Beowulf extremely courageous but he is the mold that hero s model themselves after he is
noble, true to his word and his unquestionable trust in his skills. When Beowulf gets to Heorot and
they begin to feast, Unfearth goes up to Beowulf, and questions the race that he and Brecca had in the
fierce open sea saying that no matter what he had done before that he would not be able to defeat
Grendel because many great warriors had come before him and his fate would be no different;
however, Beowulf has trust in his skills that God has graced him with just as he did when he raced
Brecca in the open sea. By Beowulf saying this, he is letting Unfearth know that now as well as when
he raced Brecca he is the best and will not be beaten. Beowulf then begins to challenge Unfearth s
skills by saying if he was really as courageous as he has been saying he is, then Grendel wouldn t be

Summary Of Canon Revisited
Michale J. Kruger is professor of New Testament and academic dean at Reformed Theological
Seminary, is the author of the Gospels of the Savior, and the coauthor of Gospel Fragments and the
Hersey of Orthodoxy. His research on the Christian origins has made him a trusted authority on the
development of the New Testament canon. In Canon Revisited, Kruger looks deeper than the
traditional surveys of councils and creeds, mining the biblical text itself for direction in understanding
what the original authors and audiences believed the canon to be. While there are many interests,
critiques, and approaches to understanding the biblical canon regarding authenticity, authority, and
historicity in this text Michale Kruger takes on the problem of canon ... Show more content on

[1] With all these various locations, facts, perspectives, identities, and languages that compile the
Christian biblical text how can Christians know that the 27 books are the right 27 books? Again, the
question of the canon, therefore, is at the very center of how biblical authority is established. [2] Even
though the Bible has been established and authenticated for several centuries, the Christian
community continues to circulate debate on the New Testament canon. In the introduction of the book
(pp 15 24) Kruger states there are various reasons why this conversation is still happening. First,
modern critical scholarship has continued to raise doubts about the authorship and date of numerous
New Testament books, attributing them to later, pseudonymous authors. Throughout the text many of
the models date the completed canon to the fourth century. Second, the later century and a half have
been filled with sensational discoveries of apocryphal materials that have raised new questions about
which books should be included in the canon. The discoveries of apocryphal gospels such as the
Gospel of Peter, the Gospel of Thomas, the Secret gospel of Mark, and most recently, the Gospels of
Judas have raised questions about the state of

How America Has Shaped Our History Essay
Bayli Beehler America has dealt with many things that shaped our history including major wars,
fighting for freedoms of all people, and terrorist attacks, but they all give us a reason to continue
strengthening our country. The events that we have encountered shaped our history today. In many
ways, America has changed greatly for the best interest of the people. Over the course of years,
America has engaged in many battles. The American Revolution, the Civil War, and the Vietnam War
rank among the highest wars of importance to our history. If the American Revolution would not have

There were a lot of struggles for equal rights in America, and we have come a long way. In the past,
slaves and women of our country were not given very many rights. Slavery was officially abolished in
1865, due to the thirteenth amendment.. Since this amendment, there has still been numerous racial
issues, but people are willing to stand up strongly for what they believe in. Adding the nineteenth
amendment also brought Americans a sense of equality, because if allowed women the right to vote.
Women had been fighting for their rights since our country began for their equality. Along with these
movements, there have been several including equality of gender, race, and religious beliefs. To this
day, America is still taking steps to insure all people have equal rights. Recently, in 2010 our country
passed the Equality Act which prohibits discrimination of those undergoing gender reassignment.
Equality between people does not necessarily mean having the same opinions, but having the same
opportunities. Throughout history America has provided equality to all issues brought up, which gives
us hope that we will continue to live in a country where freedom is most definitely

A Comparison of Vengeance in Electra, The Bacchae and...
Vengeance in Electra, The Bacchae and Frankenstein
In today s world, vengeance is still in existence, bubbling below our calm facade, waiting for the
catalyst it needs to break loose. Evidence can be seen right now in the reactions of the American
people towards Bin Laden. He destroyed so many lives, and now, there is probably not one American
that would not love to get their minute alone with him. The American people want to hurt him the way
he and his followers hurt their fellow Americans, their family. This hunger for vengeance is
completely Dionysian and is found in more than one written work.
Electra is saturated with the Dionysian quest for vengeance that prevails also in The Bacchae. It is

This is what prompted Electra and Orestes into action. Their senses were presumably on the mark
considering their mother s reaction upon hearing of Orestes death. Her primary concern is her own
well being. Orestes feigned death cleared up any misconceptions readers might have had as to what
Clytmaenestra s true sentiments were, and gives more definition unto the rationale behind Electra and
Orestes conduct.
In Frankenstein, the Dionysian principle is found twice. It exists for the monster and for Victor in an
opposing manner. For the monster, it is a little more complicated to uncover due to its backwards
pattern and the strange relationships. Victor s monster is left alone to fend for himself and discovers
that he is hideous and grotesquely frightening to all human beings he comes in contact with. With the
basis of these experiences, he deems himself unworthy of love and curses his creator for bringing him
into such a cruel world. He is determined to get even with Victor and kills his younger brother, and
when Victor refuses to create a monster companion, the monster destroys more of Victor s beloved.
Victor, as the monster s creator, is in essence, his mother, making Victor s family the monster s family
as well. The monster forsakes these family members who were ignorant of his existence. Had they
known him, they might have shown him the compassion he wishes for,

What Was The Difference Between Plane Crazy And Ub Iwerk
The first two Mickey shorts, Plane Crazy and The Gallopin Gaucho drew no attention. And it was a
failure as it failed to impress the audience and the fact that Walt could not find a distributor to release
the cartoon shorts. But then came Steamboat Willie, the first animation that featured synchronized
music and sound effects. It was first released in New York on November 18, 1928 and was an instant
hit.
The film was co directed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. And although it was the third Mickey
cartoon produced, it was the first to find a distributor, thus it was considered as Mickey s first debut.
Some changes were made to Mickey s appearance as well, such as simplifying his eyes to large dots
which then established his look for later cartoons

Sugar Dissolving In Water Lab Report
When the sugar and salt are dissolved in the water, sugar has to dissolve in water faster than salt does.
Because the sugar molecules are bigger than the salt ions. So there will be more molecules are
surrounding. But in our experiment, there are some systematic errors. Because each time the small
spoonful of sugar and salt which dissolve into the water will not have the same mass. There are other
systematic errors. For example, using inaccurate equipment which is scale. If the scale was not
accurate, the mass of salt and sugar which were used in the lab would not be accurate. And the mass
will affect the melting point time change. There are also some random errors. The speed of string the
sugar and salt in order to make them dissolve into the water will cause the dissolving time. There is
some limitation. The room temperature is one of them. The room temperature will affect the

Compare And Contrast Freud Vs Hobsbawm
Philosophers Sigmund Freud and Eric Hobsbawm present two explanations of the origins of
civilization in their books Civilization and its Discontent and Nations and Nationalism since 1780,
respectively. In doing so, each philosopher establish a distinct, and somewhat similar, definition of
civilization. According to Freud, civilization describes the whole sum of the achievements and the
regulations which distinguish our lives from those of our animal ancestors. (Freud, 63) There are
distinct features of a civilization, such as beauty, the encouragement of man s higher mental activities
his intellectual, scientific and artistic achievements (Freud, 69) and the social relations between men.
While Freud refers to this union of a group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hobsbawm emphasizes that proto nationalism was the mobilizing (of) certain variants of feelings of
collective belonging which already existed and which could operate, as it were, potentially on the
macro political scale which could fit in with modern states and nations. (Hobsbawm, 52) The
consciousness, therefore, of belonging to a nation requires the citizens of a country (to become) a sort
of community, though an imagined one, and its members therefore found themselves seeking for and
consequently finding, things in common, places, practices, personages, memories, signs and symbols.
(Hobsbawm, 90) This foundational development is essentially one of patriotism, in which the
individual evokes a feeling of loyalty and pride in their nation through symbols, language and
ethnicity. While these feelings of pro nationalism may occur, if an individual is, for instance, to have
thoughts of desire to burn the national flag or act in an anti nationalist way, then they will have
feelings of guilt. Freud explains that the origins of the sense of guilt (are): one arising from fear of an
authority, and the other, later on, arising from fear of the super ego. (Freud, 119) The state, therefore,
is the super ego that oppresses the Id of the individual who has these perverted thoughts. One can
additionally apply this to the original ways in which

The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson And An Adaptation Of ``...
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and an adaptation of The Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper are valuable
short stories that are worth a close evaluation of. A comparison and contrast of the theme alienation in
both stories would lead to a more thorough understanding of the messages behind the texts. The
purpose of this essay is to answer the question on what insights do we gain into the course theme of
alienation when we read both The Lottery and The Metamorphosis side by side? Gregor Samsa in The
Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper and the townspeople in The Lottery by Shirley Jackson are similar in
that they both reveal a passive approach to alienation that ultimately leads to the growing of
alienation; the alienation is different for Gregor and the townspeople in terms of how active they
participate within their community determine their likelihood of being marginalized. Gregor s minimal
expression of his feelings towards his family alienates and marginalizes Gregor from his family. The
townspeople s active participation in the lottery, however, contributes to the severity of alienation
within the town. These two stories attempt to tell us that alienation and the failure to take initiative to
resist oppression are interconnected. This essay will compare Gregor Samsa and the townspeople s
passivity and also explore how taking on an active and inactive role in their story s context would
foster different types of alienation. In The Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper, Gregor

“the Destructors” and “the Lottery” Fiction Essay
The Destructors and The Lottery Fiction Essay Introduction Some may say that we are, as human
beings, a violent people by nature. We see it in our own history of wars and genocide that the violence
in us can grow to extreme proportions. These two stories, The Destructors by Graham Greene, and
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, show us that some of the violence can be brought on by people
simply following blindly. Whether we look at the past or the present, these two short stories, show us
the mob mentality can be very dangerous. The long dead tradition of The Lottery tells of the town
people forgetting most of the different parts of the tradition because it takes too long, or is not feasible.

Jackson herself was born in San Francisco, California in 1916 and later entered Syracuse University in
New York around 1937 (Jackson, 2009). The location setting in The Lottery doesn t seem relevant to
any of the places Jackson has lived. The story s setting is more of a rural type farming area, whereas
Jackson has lived in mostly city environments. Comparing the two stories regarding regional writing,
The Destructors setting was inspired by Greene s own geographical location and his own experiences
regarding World War II. In Jackson s The Lottery , the location is vaguer. She paints a picture of a
small rural farming type town and didn t seem to draw inspiration from places she herself has lived.
Jackson tells us in an interview that the story came to her rather quickly and tells how it came about.
Jackson says, I had the idea fairly clearly in my mind when I put my daughter in her playpen and the
frozen vegetables in the refrigerator and, writing the story, I found that it went quickly and easily,
moving from beginning to end without pause. As a matter of fact, when I read it over later I decided
that except for one or two minor corrections, it needed no changes, and the story I finally typed up and
sent off to my agent the next day was almost word for word the original draft. Jackson s main point
was to shock its readers, with a graphic dramatization of the

Compare And Contrast The Traditional Model Of Public...
Over the recent decades, the public sectors of the countries have implemented considerable reforms in
response to the challenges of technological progress and global changes. These wide public sector
reforms represent a shift from the
Traditional model of Public Administration (TPA), to the New Public Management
(NPM). In other words, there have been numerous changes to replace the huge massive bureaucracies
based on hierarchical forms with market based economic theories built on consumer driven
managerialism. And power was centralized in TPA, while NPM decentralized power distributes to the
businesses. In the following, I will briefly examine the public administration and new public
management. Then compare the TPA and the NPM from various dimensions such as their ... Show

models by examining their perceive roles, functions and modes of operation.
Before compare the two different models TPA and NPM, I will illustrate what is the public sector
management. Public sector management is the process of ensuring that the allocation and use of
resources available to the government are directed toward the achievement of lawful public policy
goals (Hill and Lynn, p.10).

The Psychoanalytic Theory Of Human Development Research
Introduction Developmental Psychology is a concentrated study on the constancy and change that
occurs throughout the lifespan. Initially being constrained to infants and children, it has now been
extended to include a wider range of a person s lifespan (Berk, 2014, p. 3). This field studies topics
like the theoretical perspective theories that are used in human development research. The
Psychoanalytic perspective theory focuses on the emotional and social development, Piaget s
Cognitive Developmental theory accents the changes in thinking, while the Behaviorism and Social
Learning and the Lifespan perspective discuss many aspects on human functioning (p. 21). These
theories allow for a different point of view on development while regarding relative influence of
nature and nurture.
Psychoanalytic
The Psychoanalytic theory suggests that people move through a series of stages while encountering
conflicts between biological drives and social expectations. The person s ability to learn, get along
with others and to cope with anxiety is determined by how the person resolves those conflicts.
Regarding nature and nurture, both seem to be a relative influence on the Psychoanalytic perspective
based on Sigmund Freud, founder of the psychoanalytic movement. While working with emotionally
troubled adults, Freud focused on the unconscious motivations of the patients and created the
psychosexual theory, which incorporates three parts of the personality, the id, ego and

Comparing Maus I And Maus II
Maus I and Maus II: Intricate Frames of Identity and Experience
Maus is self referential a number of times throughout each volume, with a variety of purposes. The
narrative moves through several interpretive frameworks Vladek s perspective, and Artie s
perspective, both of his father and of his father s story and how he s choosing to tell it. Throughout
these various levels of interpretation, questions are posed in innumerable ways. Vladek s behavior
when he talks about (or even uses) his experiences, Artie s perspective of his father, and the symbolic
representation of the animals, are all expressions of identity that come through as the result of the
individual s frame of interpretation. The text and its subjects are self aware in a variety ... Show more

In the first volume, Artie ruminates on the subject of Jewish stereotypes and the ways in which his
father fits into them. In one panel, he says, In some ways he s just like the racist caricature of the
miserly old Jew (Maus I, Spiegelman 131). It s important to Artie to portray his father accurately, but
he s understandably concerned about playing into stereotypes. Just like the animal and nationality
stereotypes, the stereotypes that Vladek fits into work in two ways. Vladek is the miserly old Jew but
the text shows over and over again that this same pragmatic tendency helped him survive a lot of
times in the war, and so in some ways validates the practice. It s important to note though, that the
tendency to save negatively affected Mala and Artie; they both carried a lot of resentment towards
Vladek in the ways that he denied them a lot of basic necessities, and in a lot of ways prioritized
material items and money over members of his family. So while the text shows an explanation of sorts
for Vladek s behavior, it doesn t necessarily make excuses for the problems he caused with his actions
later on. The engagement between cultural perceptions and lived experience continues the subversive
action that is the basic underlying function of the texts. (Maus II,

The Baroque Period Of Music

music had a more structured and formal format to its music. Music of this time period, which lasted

of music at this time were sonatas, symphonies, and string quartets. Although opera was still
immensely enjoyed, it did not maintain the stamina it had gained in the Baroque period. Advances
were being made in concertos, pieces where a soloist played the main melody while accompanied by

Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens
Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens
Introduction
Since the times of ancient Rome, there has been work of art including architecture. The invention of
architectural objects boosted the construction industry and among the results of architecture was
building of temples. Since the ancient people like the romans had beliefs in gods, they constructed
temples, places of worship. Among them were the Pantheon of Rome and the Parthenon of Athens.
Style of Pantheon of Rome and culture
The temple has a coffered concrete dome of which the romans believed that the temple was dedicated
to planetary deities. The pantheon had an Orb which was a simple of the universe and this showed the
supremacy of the emperor over the world. Additionally, there were also has seven niches for the altars
and statues. At that time there were seven well known planets. Also on the dome, it is seen a central
ring of the Oculus which is surrounded by 5 rings of coffers. These can be related to the heliocentric
view of the cosmos having the sun in the center and Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Venus and Moon around it.
Function of the Pantheon of Rome
Used for worshipping gods of ancient Rome. It is of great importance to note that the romans were
keen on astrology. Among the purposes of the Pantheon was that it was a temple cum planetarium
made to bring down the heavens to the earth and to then trap their perfection within the building and
cast a heavenly blessing on the Emperor s earthly power.

Flight has become romanticized by humanity, it provides Freedom . Throughout the majority human
history, humans have used land and water for their transportation needs. The invention of the airplane
opened the use of a third medium, air. Flight only has the illusion of freeing us from earth. Airplanes
would not be able to maintain flight without their ground based systems. These systems are arranged
along flight corridors or airways. The Transcontinental Airway was the first major flight corridor
constructed in the United States. The ground systems constructed along these corridors have made
major impacts upon the landscape of the early 20th century.

The airways crossed nearly every type of terrain the country has. The manner of lights installed and

hard to pin a date as to when the airway system was phased out. There was no sweeping change to
cause their disappearance. Small incremental changes and advances in technology made them

Taking a Look at the Western Shoshone Nation
Traditionally the Western Shoshone Nation s ancestral land covers an area spanning from southern
California, clear through Nevada, and barely touching southern Idaho. Within this scope of land is the

Northern Nevada, which is currently subject to mining. This large area of land is know as the Great

mountains, feeding the creeks which keep the living, living. Mount Tenabo is one such mountain;
however it also holds a place in Shoshone creation stories, and is the site of ancient burials causing it

Americans to use the land by payment of royalties to the nation. However, by the 1900s this treaty was

Freedom Rides in Australia took place later on the 12th February 19659; when the University of
Sydney students rode into the towns in northern New South Wales which contained large Aboriginal
populations 10. One of the main towns mentioned was at Moree; where they protested in swimming
pools, attracting a lot of violence. The Freedom Rides also passed through Wellington, Gulargambone,
Lismore, Bowraville and Kempsey. The duration of the Australian Freedom Rides occurred mainly in
February 1965.
In America, the reaction to the protest was very intense. Throughout the protest, the Freedom Riders
came across violence and the reaction of the protest was ruthless. While having to delay their journey
to change a slashed tire, one bus was firebombed and the Freedom Riders were beaten (by a white

Freedom Ride accompanied by the State Highway Patrol, taking their journey headed for
Montgomery; but when local police failed to protect them, they were again beaten 12.

Joan and Darby ( the taxpayers ) have not filed tax returns in five years since 2005. The taxpayers sold
their home in 2005 and their concerns are whether the sale has had any tax consequences for them.
CGT Event The first issue is whether the sale of the taxpayers Hunter s Hill home on 15th May 2005
has triggered a Capital Gains Tax ( CGT ) event. The applicable statute relevant to this issue is s104
10[1] of the ITAA97[2]. Since the taxpayers home was disposed of with a change of ownership it has
therefore triggered an A1 CGT event. s104 10 also states that the event occurs when the contract was

Therefore the ITAA97 has specified two main ways of adjusting the calculation. The first method is
called the discount method and it outlined in s115. It can be used only on assets where the CGT event
occurred after 21 September 1999 and by individuals. The taxpayers satisfy both of these conditions
and can therefore use this method. s115 100 states that individuals are to discount their capital gain by
50%. The second method is called the indexation method and is set out in s110 36. Indexation adjusts
the cost base (except the third element) and can only be used if the CGT event occurred after 21st
September 1999. Furthermore, the section states that the taxpayer needs to choose to use the
indexation method; if no choice is made the discount method will be automatically applied. Therefore,
the taxpayers may be limited to using the discount method as it can be assumed they did not specially
choose the indexation method at the time of the CGT event in 2005. However, s103 25 states that the
choice needs to be made on the day the taxpayer lodges their tax return. Since the taxpayers are yet to
lodge theirs, they are still eligible to use this method. s960 275 sets out how to calculate the index
factor:

Using this formula the taxpayers should use an index factor of 1.730715.[9]

How Do Changes in Temperature and pH Levels Affect Enzyme Activity? Lab Report
In biology class, we ve learned that sugars produce energy and to use sugars to gain energy, an
organism needs a proper enzyme should exist to break it down the chemical bonds of the sugar.
Enzymes and proteins are important in organisms because they are involved in most chemical
reactions that take place inside of an organism. Our example of an important enzyme was catalase,
which breaks down H2O2. H2O2 is a natural by product and toxic. When H2O2 contacts catalase, it
breaks down into water and oxygen. Our group got curious about how changes in temperature and pH
levels affect enzyme activity. Since enzymes are group of protein and protein can break easily by acid,
base, and hot temperature. To experiment our question, we used catalase solution, 3% H2O2 solution,
0.1 M HCl solution, 0.1 M NaOH solution, a beaker, an O2 gas sensor, sensor interface on a
Chromebook, pH paper, and safety gloves. Therefore, we conducted experiments to test how enzyme
activity in different conditions. Plus, we predicted that if temperature increases or enzyme have
contacts with acid or base, enzyme activity will decrease. We held four controlled experiments which
are controller, temperature, HCl Acid, and NaOH Base. We controlled the amount of catalase to 10 mL
and H2O2 solution to 4 mL. First we mixed catalase with H2O2 solution and used O2 sensor to gather

Americans, who are looking for technical jobs, are experiencing. The purpose of this paper is to

Technology companies used this model for manufacturing. Manufacturing services were outsourced to
countries such as The Philippines, China, and Malaysia as well as many other developing countries
where the cost of labor was significantly lower. One specific example of this in the semiconductor
industry was that most of the chip package assembly work was outsourced and moved to the
Philippines.
By the 1990 s, the scope of the services being outsourced widened to include any service. In the
Semiconductor Industry, the actual fabrication of devices moved overseas to countries such as Taiwan.
This shift gave more control to the external company and these service suppliers became closer to
their business partners, becoming part of the supply chain for the primary company. The use of
outsourcing by companies is progressing to where the external company is actually bringing the
product to market, including engineering and management services. The outsourcing company is only
developing the innovation. In this case the primary company s business is completely dependent on
the external company.
Throughout this paper, I use the term overseas outsourcing loosely to refer to any service outsourcing
to countries outside the border of the United States. The lower cost of living in many nations provides
the required lower cost labor for outsourcing to be profitable. Different time zones also allow for work
to be accomplished 24 hours/day. The

Children in Hospice
Research suggests that every year there are between 100,000 to 150,000 children born in the United
States with a genetic disorder or defect. This represents approximately 20% of infant deaths each year.
However, many of these children live to age well beyond the expectation, and some are enrolled in
hospice. According to Armstrong Daily and Zarbock (2001), The concept of hospice today is applied
to patients who are traveling through the final stages of their lives in effect seeking shelter and
comfort. Hence, the main focus of this program is to prepare families for the death of a loved one.

Even when hospitalized, parents must be prepared to fight for the right of their child to live because
many medical professionals give the impression that any effort would be useless. Many parents are
even willing to care for the child within the home but there are no resources available to assist with
care other than nursing. This should be a key area for concern as the patient is expected to live six
months in most cases and it is more than enough time to prepare for the child s death. When that time
has passed and the child is still progressing, one is only left to wonder the next step. At this point, time
spent creating memories with family should be top priority.
It is my recommendation that the health care community implement a network of resources for parents
who are not willing to accept and grieve but are willing to accept and fight to prolong the life of their
child. Resources and information should be readily available to assist with any type of services that
would bring relief for situations ranging from housing to therapy. Medical professionals also should be
required to take a course in patient relations giving some insight into the emotional turmoil that many
parents experience. This probably would change some parent s perception of the medical profession
because discretion and empathy would be used when providing information about the child s
condition. Any feelings of hopelessness may be eliminated and replaced with feelings of relief

Components Based Software Engineering ( Cbse )
Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Component Based Software Engineering
Introduction
Component Based Software Engineering (CBSE) means the development of software by using pre
developed software components. It may contain external as well as in house built components.
Component based development approach develops the software systems by choosing appropriate
components and then integrating them by using a well defined architecture. Component based
software engineering (CBSE) has become a modern approach of software development that provides
an optimal, efficient, economic and quick software development as per user requirements.
The Need of Component Based Software Engineering
Modern software systems have become more and more large scale and complex which results in
higher cost of building the systems, low productivity, and degraded system quality. Thus need of
developing a good, economical software development strategy arose.CBSE helps to deal with
complexity by following a divide and conquer approach, modularising large softwares systems into
smaller, reusable units called components. CBSE helps in decreasing the development cost of the
systems, the time it takes to deliver to the customer, enhance the maintenance of the software and
dependability on the system.
Component Based Software Engineering Process
The Component Based Software Engineering Process involves
a) Recognition of candidate components
b) Qualification of the interface of each component

Frederic Chopin as the Greatest Romantic Composer Essay
In the course of the development of music, many great composers have contributed their brilliance
towards the revolution of music. To be a great composer does not necessarily mean that they have
reached a vast amount of fame. However, it means that their compositions have ingenuity and value.
The melodies they have cleverly created have reached a point of worthiness in the world of music. For
it is the sweet harmonies a composer creates that defines who he is. One of these gifted composers
was Frederic Chopin, born on February 22, 1810 in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. Young Chopin was

With this clever innovation of harmonics, Chopin was highly ranked amongst other composers making
him an even greater influence towards the world of piano playing. Already rising up to becoming a
great icon, Chopin played a major role in the art of composing piano pieces. Chopin created his own
original technique that made his music so ingenious. He composed the Trois Nouvelles Etudes , the
three new studies. These studies showed his various new techniques that later influenced the
keyboard, and music itself (Hueneker 140). Chopin also constructed his own original pieces by
including different genres of music into one composition. For example, he would combine a polonaise
and a mazurka, two different Polish dances, one being slow while the other is lively. Frederic Chopin
also influenced composition with his genius use of the piano. He used the instrument to its fullest
effect to create a beautiful and expressive piece (Politoske, Daniel T.). His creativity was prominently
brought out this way as he was able to produce melody and harmony (Samson 4). As a matter of fact,
Chopin reached fame for his various piano compositions rather than his orchestral pieces (Politoske,
Daniel T.). His arrangements utilized the piano in the most unique way which is why other musicians
and his audiences admired his music. Arthur Rubinstein stated that, ...all possible expressions are

Galactic Empire Research Paper
The Galactic Empire is the largest military force in the galaxy, with their only opposition being the
Rebel Alliance. The AT AT Walker is arguably the most powerful terrestrial vehicle at the disposal of
the Galactic Empire. The Empire employs the AT AT onto the battlefield as both a troop transport and
an assault craft. The AT AT has been deployed in multiple battlefield environments, including the
assault on Hoth and defense of the forest moon of Endor, with deadly effect. The AT AT is used when
the Empire needs to assault an enemy position, or when a large amount of enemies need taken out.
The AT AT is also utilized as a physiological deterrent.
The AT At is a quadrupedal, highly armored vehicle, with the command deck and pilot s seat ... Show

One such weakness is its inability to attack anything behind its main body. The walker would have to
turn completely around to engage a target behind it thus exposing itself to the direction it was
previously facing. One of the most commonly exploited weaknesses of the AT AT is it high center of
gravity, making it top heavy. One example of the rebels taking advantage of this weakness is when the
Empire assaulted Hoth. Rebel snow speeders attached tow lines toe the walker s legs and wrapped the
line around it until the walker got snagged and toppled over. The walker also has a hard time attacking
more than one target at a time. Another weakness is the flexible tunnel that runs between the cargo and
troop areas of the craft and the head. One direct blast to this tunnel detonated the entire AT AT. The
platting on the underbelly of the walker is slightly weaker and easier to damage. The AT AT also has
no way to protect against troops beneath its main body, where the lightly armored hatch can be easily
cut free and sabotaged. One other big weakness in the design of the AT AT is the fact that it is very
slow compared to the smaller AT ST. Also the terrain it is in can limit it much farther, with it moving
at its fastest on flat smooth ground and its slowest on steep rocky inclines, and heavily forested areas
like the moon of Endor where its usage was far less than the

Amusing Ourselves To Death By Neil Postman
Postman: Rant or Reason?
In his novel, Amusing Ourselves to Death , author Neil Postman describes to the reader, in detail, the
immediate and future dangers of television. The arguement starts out in a logical manner, explaining
first the differences between today s media driven society, and yesterday s typographic America .
Postman goes on to discuss in the second half of his book the effects of today s media, politics on
television, religion on television, and finally televised educational programs. All, he says, are making
a detrimental imprint on our society, its values, and its standards. Postman explains that the media
consists of fragment[s] of news (100), and politics are merely a fashion show. Although Postman s

Each one flings bring colors at us for 45 seconds before the subject switches to a new topic. A society
raised on such a format simply cannot endure lengthy debates or speeches. They seem neither exciting
nor entertaining to us. Postman also explains that in response to this switch in desired format,
politicians and presidents have adjusted their means of communication as well. It is hard to imagine
the present occupant of the White House being capable of constructing such clauses in similar
circumstances. (Postman addressing a very lengthy and inticrate live rebuttal made by Lincoln in
response to one of Douglas statements, 46) Today s politicians know that in order to reach audiences,
their statements need to be short and sweet . Unfortunately this sort of information shortening is not
the only weakness which plagues television s functionality as a means of communication.
To sum up Postman s views about news media on television, one can simply call it a joke . The now
this format of news media works in an identical fashion to the previously described commercials.
Viewers are rarely required to carry over any thought or feeling from one parcel of time to another.
(100) Here again, Postman is right on the money when he describes the shortcomings of today s
television news. The news show begins with exciting music and professional looking visuals which set
the mood for the show. One can t help but feel a boost of importance. It is as though the

Visualization In Documentary Film
When we think about visualization and representation, we are talking about not looking at the real
thing but at an image of the real thing. So visualization can be visualized as the real thing imagined,
the real thing represented and the real thing mediated. And the documentary genre attempts to do
exactly the same thing. So in this process of visualization, there comes the creative intervention of the
documentary film maker in all phases of production. In other words, aesthetics plays a vital role in
documentary film. The fact that the film maker s aesthetic concepts bring in an element of subjectivity
into the documentary film poses an important question: in what way, then, a documentary film is
different from a feature film? Where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Aqueducts Of The Roman Aqueducts
For thousands of years, the Aqueducts of Rome have inspired and changed the ways we look at water
supply and usage today. The Romans used their engineering and building skills to improve the
standard of life of the people of Rome, Revolutionising water collection and usage. By investigating
the aqueducts of Rome and presenting evidence and information about how and why they were built,
this report will question whether aqueducts were better built than today s bridges.
The word aqueduct is Latin and comes from aqua and ducere meaning to lead water . The Roman
aqueducts were a network of channels and pipes built above and below ground with a purpose to carry
water across expanses of land. The concept of the Roman aqueducts is simple ... Show more content

Access points were also built along the path of the aqueduct to regulate the water supply and clear
debris. As the aqueducts approached Rome, the water was emptied into 3 holding tanks castella (see
fig.3). Each holding tank pumped water for a specific purpose such as for public baths, drinking
fountains or piping water to the rich. None of the water that the aqueducts used was wasted as the left
over water was used to flush out sewerage systems, power machinery and for agricultural purposes.
The senator Sextus Julius Frontinus from the 1st century AD explained in detail how the aqueducts
worked. A quote from his book states the different uses of a Roman aqueduct: The supply which
suffices not only for public and private uses and purposes but also for the satisfaction of luxury. The
use of water for many different purposes was unique at the time and ensured that little was wasted.
Every Roman by the 2nd century AD had free access to public baths and running water, which greatly
improved Rome s standard of living at the time. Private access to water was also common with a cost
occurring to pipe water to houses and buildings. Sometimes water was tapped unknowingly or pipes
were unlawfully connected to the aqueducts or widened. Some privately operated aqueducts were also
used and pumped water directly to buildings.
The aqueducts are mostly identified today by the

Stella In A Streetcar Named Desire
The Character of Stella, in A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, can be summed up quite
concisely, she is the stereotypical housewife character, never breaking the mold or going out of
character. Even when Stanley beats her for wholly arbitrary reasons, such as being seen while he
played poker. She undergoes no character arcs and chooses to remain ignorant of her husband s
misdeeds at the end of the play. Stella is characterized throughout the play as being a submissive and
forgiving housewife archetype. She accepts that Stanly beats her, she accepts that It wasn t anything
serious and that he didn t know what he was doing . This shows that the abuse has occured before and
that they are stuck in the cycle of abuse. In addition

Example Of Environmental Injustice

Environmental Science

Environmental Injustice
Environmental Injustice alludes to socially minimized racial minority groups which are subjected to
lopsided presentation of contaminations, the foreswearing of access to wellsprings of biological
advantages, (for example, clean air, water, and characteristic assets), or both. Studies going back to the
1970s have indicated a reliable example in who lives close to the sorts of dangers dangerous waste
locales, landfills, congested thruways that few of us would readily pick as neighbors. The constant
answer: destitute individuals and groups of shading. This example of ecological bad form
recommends that minorities may battle each day with unbalanced wellbeing dangers from tailpipe
fumes or coal plant outflows. Be that as it may, these wellbeing dangers are harder to measure than,
say, the quantity of energy plants in a city. Also, the greater part of the exploration that has attempted
to do this has been compelled to a singular metropolitan locale, or to those few places that happen to
have extraordinary checking data on sullying. The Dark Administration Discussion (BLF) goes about
as a clearinghouse for national African American pioneers. The BLF unites Dark pioneers to ponder
issues of the most profound centrality to African Americans, especially social equality and real open
approach issues. Since the late spring of 2000, BLF has included Environmental Change as a critical

Timely Treatment Of Post Conflict Liberia
The Timely Treatment of Post Conflict Liberia
Following the end of Liberia s civil war (which was borne out of the relationship of the US and
Samuel Doe, the Liberian people elected a government in a free and fair democratic elections), the
country was in need of the US and other world powers to help stimulate the country s economy and
help rebuild its damaged infrastructure. However, the US basically walked away from Liberia at the
opportune moment leaving Liberia to its own devices and also at the mercy of the Supreme Being to
perform some sort of miracle to rebuild this nation that was once very important to the US during the
Cold War.
Focusing on Liberia s Leaders instead of its People
In concurrence with these two points (Making Common Causes with One Evil Doer in Order to
Defeat a Greater Evil Doer and The Timely Treatment of Post Conflict Liberia) the US has often
developed its foreign policy relative to the leader of a country, rather than the citizenry. Below are the
three leaders that the US developed its foreign policy with:
 Tubman and the United States, 1944 1971
William Vacanarat Shadrach Tubman, the 11th president of Liberia and the longest serving president
in Liberian history (almost 28 years), succeeded President Barclay immediately after World War II
when the winds of the Cold War were already blowing across the world. The Soviet Union and United
States turned the continent of Africa into a superpower rivalry playground, in order to inculcate or

How Did Ww2 Create More Equality In British Society
Prior to World War II, women made up only five million of the total workforce in Britain and were
expected to leave their jobs permanently once married or after the birth of the first child, this was
referred to as the marriage bar . Despite the passing of liberating acts, women were still seen inferior
to men. However, the outbreak of World War II changed everything for women, and was the
fundamental event that created more equality by increased women s employment and status in British
society.
By December 1941, women aged 20 to 30 were being conscripted into the war, which later extended
to married women, needed to choose among many professions to support British war efforts. These
included working in factories, nursing, and auxiliary

  • 2. How Did Nero Influence Rome Emperor Nero was the most detrimental emperor to Rome. He burned Rome so he could build Rome as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians. Those are the acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He has also done some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Nero ruled Rome from 54 AD to 68 AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was changed to Nero in 49 AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians have read that Nero s fate was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero was three, was extremely violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young boy with his chariot as he drove through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon hearing of the birth of his son, Nero s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly any good could come out of it. The people of Rome were right. One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom he eventually forced to commit suicide). Nero murdered his way to the imperial throne, which he occupied from A.D. 54 68. His life was characterized by debauchery, violence (he caused his own mother to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Superflab Essay This study is a comparison of three alternative bolus materials to Superflab in providing the maximum dose buildup (Dmax). Superflab is a synthetic oil gel based on vinyl plastic composed of disodecyl phthalate. The maximum dose buildup (Dmax) is when 100% of the dose is deposited beneath a patient s skin. Alternative bolus materials are tissue equivalent materials placed on a patient s skin surface to increase or even out the surface dose. The composition of alternative bolus materials can include anything from wet gauze to Play Doh to rice. The purpose of this study is to test the Dmax for various bolus materials when compared to Superflab. Walker et al. (2005) performed this study to determine the differences in producing the maximum dose buildup while using Play Doh, water soaked gauze, and Superflab. The researchers wanted to determine if Play Doh and water soaked gauze were adequate alternatives to Superflab. At the beginning they accurately measured the radiation doses to be less than 10.0 cGy. Next, they made each bolus material 5 mm thick and then placed TLDs at the center of the beam where they placed each bolus and irradiated them 5 times each. Then, they calculated the mean dose, standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2013) executed this study to determine what the difference was in dose distribution when using Superflab, wet gauze, and wet towels. The researchers believed that wet gauze and towels had the potential to be adequate bolus substitutes, but knew the reproducibility of the gauze and towels would be low. They measured the dimensions of each bolus material and then, irradiated each material with various photon energies. The results showed that the Dmax changed and shifted to the surface when they used Superflab, but Dmax did not validate a shift change in the wet gauze and towel. In conclusion, the researchers discovered that wet gauze and wet towels are not adequate Superflab substitutes, although this could be that each bolus had a different ... • 4. Example Of Alcoholics Anonymous Alcoholics Anonymous The name of the meeting was Grove City Wave Three Group, and it was located at the United Methodist Church on 2710 Columbus Street in Grove City. The meeting took place on Sunday at 7:30 pm and is held almost every Sunday. The reason I had choose this location for the meeting was because it was near my home. When I first entered the room I was expecting the stereotypical meeting, which is shown in movies where there is a circle of chairs in a room with no tables. But once I entered the room, there were plenty of seats and it did not appear to be dark and gloomy. The room was located in the basement of the church, and had the seats set were the participants are able to see one another. I was anxious of how other members would react to my presence, considering I was in a church. I was greeted when I entered the room. My anxiety slowly went away, when I realized that these are people really dealing with a difficult issue in their lives. It reminded me of how vulnerable it can be to be around others and admit to a weakness within you, to get better. It takes a lot of courage to go to a meeting, and want to change. The members of the meeting varied in all ages and ethnicities. There were young people as well as older people. When I was in the meeting I was asked to introduce myself. I explained that I was a student and was interested in learning. The participants were very understanding and did not mind at all. But it felt very awkward for me, because I did not want to impose. One participant explained to me that there have been other students that have attended meetings in the past. There was also another new member that came to the meeting as well. He introduced himself, and explained his reason for coming. The others members commended him for coming and congratulated him for attending and trying. The meeting was not anonymous because the members had identified their first names. The meeting did not have any one leader, but everyone in the meeting participated. There were a few participants that had roles such as secretary, and other positions. The meeting began with an introduction, reading pledges. The focus of the meeting was centered on reading the book Twelve Steps and Twelve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Project A Natural Disaster And Disaster Recovery Plan In this case assignment I am to research a natural disaster, discuss if the local government has made disaster recovery plans and whether or how the plan has been executed. Whether the plan was effective, and how it can be improved. I am also to describe the natural disaster, when, where, how, and what happened. Before we can understand the what, we need to make sure we understand the why and how. We will first discuss the disaster recovery plan, what is it?. Disaster recovery plan defines how an organization will deal with a possible disasters whether is natural or man made. A disaster is just an event that makes the business process of normal functions impossible or challenging. A disaster recovery plan comprises of the protections taken so that the effects of a disaster will be mitigated and the organization will be able to continue or rapidly resume their normal operation roles. Normally, disaster recovery planning includes an analysis or risk assessment of the organizations processes and stability needs; it may also consist a major focus on disaster prevention. Disaster recovery plan in the United States usually has been controlled by State and local governments, with the Federal government as a supporting role. While we remain truthful to the basic constitutional principle, we must also accept that events such as hurricane Katrina and the terrorist attacks of 9/11, require the government, both local and State to tailor the application of these principles to the ... • 6. Beowulf Themes Beowulf is an epic story that relates well to the time that it was introduced by having the stories of the epic battles and the defeats of the treacherous monsters that kept everyone entertained during this era. Not only does Beowulf represent the era well, but it also has very interesting characters, themes and symbols that help teach us lessons that are very much so needed in today s society. When Beowulf arrives to the land of the Danes, as soon as they dock and get off of their ship Beowulf shows his courage instantly by taking the lead and explaining to the guards that watched out for raiders and enemy ships approaching who they were and where they were from so that they may advance to the Heorot which he had heard much about. After they get inside Heorot Beowulf truly shows his courage when he tells Hrothgar about all of the triumphs he had when he was younger and how when he heard of their problem with Grendel and how he planned to be a match for him so that he could be the one to bring peace back to Heorot. He also explains how he isn t afraid of death because if he is going to die it will happen whether he wants it to or not and by doing this he gives king Hrothgar peace by knowing that he is courageous enough to take on this challenge and not be afraid by the terror that his people have been facing for the last 12 years. Not only is Beowulf extremely courageous but he is the mold that hero s model themselves after he is noble, true to his word and his unquestionable trust in his skills. When Beowulf gets to Heorot and they begin to feast, Unfearth goes up to Beowulf, and questions the race that he and Brecca had in the fierce open sea saying that no matter what he had done before that he would not be able to defeat Grendel because many great warriors had come before him and his fate would be no different; however, Beowulf has trust in his skills that God has graced him with just as he did when he raced Brecca in the open sea. By Beowulf saying this, he is letting Unfearth know that now as well as when he raced Brecca he is the best and will not be beaten. Beowulf then begins to challenge Unfearth s skills by saying if he was really as courageous as he has been saying he is, then Grendel wouldn t be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Summary Of Canon Revisited Michale J. Kruger is professor of New Testament and academic dean at Reformed Theological Seminary, is the author of the Gospels of the Savior, and the coauthor of Gospel Fragments and the Hersey of Orthodoxy. His research on the Christian origins has made him a trusted authority on the development of the New Testament canon. In Canon Revisited, Kruger looks deeper than the traditional surveys of councils and creeds, mining the biblical text itself for direction in understanding what the original authors and audiences believed the canon to be. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [1] With all these various locations, facts, perspectives, identities, and languages that compile the Christian biblical text how can Christians know that the 27 books are the right 27 books? Again, the question of the canon, therefore, is at the very center of how biblical authority is established. [2] Even though the Bible has been established and authenticated for several centuries, the Christian community continues to circulate debate on the New Testament canon. In the introduction of the book (pp 15 24) Kruger states there are various reasons why this conversation is still happening. First, modern critical scholarship has continued to raise doubts about the authorship and date of numerous New Testament books, attributing them to later, pseudonymous authors. Throughout the text many of the models date the completed canon to the fourth century. Second, the later century and a half have been filled with sensational discoveries of apocryphal materials that have raised new questions about which books should be included in the canon. The discoveries of apocryphal gospels such as the Gospel of Peter, the Gospel of Thomas, the Secret gospel of Mark, and most recently, the Gospels of Judas have raised questions about the state of ... Vengeance in Electra, The Bacchae and Frankenstein In today s world, vengeance is still in existence, bubbling below our calm facade, waiting for the catalyst it needs to break loose. Evidence can be seen right now in the reactions of the American people towards Bin Laden. He destroyed so many lives, and now, there is probably not one American that would not love to get their minute alone with him. The American people want to hurt him the way he and his followers hurt their fellow Americans, their family. In Frankenstein, the Dionysian principle is found twice. It exists for the monster and for Victor in an opposing manner. For the monster, it is a little more complicated to uncover due to its backwards pattern and the strange relationships. Victor s monster is left alone to fend for himself and discovers that he is hideous and grotesquely frightening to all human beings he comes in contact with. According to Freud, civilization describes the whole sum of the achievements and the regulations which distinguish our lives from those of our animal ancestors. (Freud, 63) There are distinct features of a civilization, such as beauty, the encouragement of man s higher mental activities his intellectual, scientific and artistic achievements (Freud, 69) and the social relations between men. Hobsbawm emphasizes that proto nationalism was the mobilizing (of) certain variants of feelings of collective belonging which already existed and which could operate, as it were, potentially on the macro political scale which could fit in with modern states and nations. (Hobsbawm, 52) The consciousness, therefore, of belonging to a nation requires the citizens of a country (to become) a sort of community, though an imagined one, and its members therefore found themselves seeking for and consequently finding, things in common, places, practices, personages, memories, signs and symbols. (Hobsbawm, 90) This foundational development is essentially one of patriotism, in which the individual evokes a feeling of loyalty and pride in their nation through symbols, language and ethnicity. While these feelings of pro nationalism may occur, if an individual is, for instance, to have thoughts of desire to burn the national flag or act in an anti nationalist way, then they will have feelings of guilt. Freud explains that the origins of the sense of guilt (are): one arising from fear of an authority, and the other, later on, arising from fear of the super ego. (Freud, 119) The state, therefore, is the super ego that oppresses the Id of the individual who has these perverted thoughts. One can additionally apply this to the original ways in which ... The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and an adaptation of The Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper are valuable short stories that are worth a close evaluation of. A comparison and contrast of the theme alienation in both stories would lead to a more thorough understanding of the messages behind the texts. The purpose of this essay is to answer the question on what insights do we gain into the course theme of alienation when we read both The Lottery and The Metamorphosis side by side? Gregor Samsa in The Metamorphosis by Peter Kuper and the townspeople in The Lottery by Shirley Jackson are similar in that they both reveal a passive approach to alienation that ultimately leads to the growing of alienation; the alienation is different for Gregor and the townspeople in terms of how active they participate within their community determine their likelihood of being marginalized. Gregor s minimal expression of his feelings towards his family alienates and marginalizes Gregor from his family. The townspeople s active participation in the lottery, however, contributes to the severity of alienation within the town. These two stories attempt to tell us that alienation and the failure to take initiative to resist oppression are interconnected. This essay will compare Gregor Samsa and the townspeople s passivity and also explore how taking on an active and inactive role in their story s context would foster different types of alienation. Initially being constrained to infants and children, it has now been extended to include a wider range of a person s lifespan (Berk, 2014, p. 3). This field studies topics like the theoretical perspective theories that are used in human development research. The Psychoanalytic perspective theory focuses on the emotional and social development, Piaget s Cognitive Developmental theory accents the changes in thinking, while the Behaviorism and Social Learning and the Lifespan perspective discuss many aspects on human functioning (p. 21). These theories allow for a different point of view on development while regarding relative influence of nature and nurture. Psychoanalytic The Psychoanalytic theory suggests that people move through a series of stages while encountering conflicts between biological drives and social expectations. The person s ability to learn, get along with others and to cope with anxiety is determined by how the person resolves those conflicts. It s important to Artie to portray his father accurately, but he s understandably concerned about playing into stereotypes. Just like the animal and nationality stereotypes, the stereotypes that Vladek fits into work in two ways. Vladek is the miserly old Jew but the text shows over and over again that this same pragmatic tendency helped him survive a lot of times in the war, and so in some ways validates the practice. It s important to note though, that the tendency to save negatively affected Mala and Artie; they both carried a lot of resentment towards Vladek in the ways that he denied them a lot of basic necessities, and in a lot of ways prioritized material items and money over members of his family. The second method is called the indexation method and is set out in s110 36. Lab Report In biology class, we ve learned that sugars produce energy and to use sugars to gain energy, an organism needs a proper enzyme should exist to break it down the chemical bonds of the sugar. Enzymes and proteins are important in organisms because they are involved in most chemical reactions that take place inside of an organism. Our example of an important enzyme was catalase, which breaks down H2O2. H2O2 is a natural by product and toxic. When H2O2 contacts catalase, it breaks down into water and oxygen. Our group got curious about how changes in temperature and pH levels affect enzyme activity. Since enzymes are group of protein and protein can break easily by acid, base, and hot temperature. To experiment our question, we used catalase solution, 3% H2O2 solution, 0.1 M HCl solution, 0.1 M NaOH solution, a beaker, an O2 gas sensor, sensor interface on a Chromebook, pH paper, and safety gloves. Therefore, we conducted experiments to test how enzyme activity in different conditions. Plus, we predicted that if temperature increases or enzyme have contacts with acid or base, enzyme activity will decrease. We held four controlled experiments which are controller, temperature, HCl Acid, and NaOH Base. We controlled the amount of catalase to 10 mL and H2O2 solution to 4 mL. First we mixed catalase with H2O2 solution and used O2 sensor to gather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Frederic Chopin as the Greatest Romantic Composer Essay In the course of the development of music, many great composers have contributed their brilliance towards the revolution of music. To be a great composer does not necessarily mean that they have reached a vast amount of fame. However, it means that their compositions have ingenuity and value. The melodies they have cleverly created have reached a point of worthiness in the world of music. For it is the sweet harmonies a composer creates that defines who he is. One of these gifted composers was Frederic Chopin, born on February 22, 1810 in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. Young Chopin was already composing by the age of eight and as his musical career developed he became known as a master of piano composition. Although he was often misunderstood ... With this clever innovation of harmonics, Chopin was highly ranked amongst other composers making him an even greater influence towards the world of piano playing. Already rising up to becoming a great icon, Chopin played a major role in the art of composing piano pieces. Chopin created his own original technique that made his music so ingenious. He composed the Trois Nouvelles Etudes , the three new studies. These studies showed his various new techniques that later influenced the keyboard, and music itself (Hueneker 140). Chopin also constructed his own original pieces by including different genres of music into one composition. For example, he would combine a polonaise and a mazurka, two different Polish dances, one being slow while the other is lively. Frederic Chopin also influenced composition with his genius use of the piano. He used the instrument to its fullest effect to create a beautiful and expressive piece (Politoske, Daniel T.). His creativity was prominently brought out this way as he was able to produce melody and harmony (Samson 4). As a matter of fact, Chopin reached fame for his various piano compositions rather than his orchestral pieces (Politoske, Daniel T.). His arrangements utilized the piano in the most unique way which is why other musicians and his audiences admired his music. Arthur Rubinstein stated that, ...all possible expressions are found in his compositions and are all sung by him upon his instrument, (Hueneker 91). Even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jason Witten Reaction Paper It was the summer of 2012 when Jason Witten, one of the most distinguished tight ends to ever play the game suffered a lacerated spleen when former Raider and now teammate linebacker Rolando McClain unloaded on Witten during the Cowboys first preseason game. The AT AT Walker is arguably the most powerful terrestrial vehicle at the disposal of the Galactic Empire. The Empire employs the AT AT onto the battlefield as both a troop transport and an assault craft. The AT AT has been deployed in multiple battlefield environments, including the assault on Hoth and defense of the forest moon of Endor, with deadly effect. The AT AT is used when the Empire needs to assault an enemy position, or when a large amount of enemies need taken out. The AT AT is also utilized as a physiological deterrent. One such weakness is its inability to attack anything behind its main body. The walker would have to turn completely around to engage a target behind it thus exposing itself to the direction it was previously facing. One of the most commonly exploited weaknesses of the AT AT is it high center of gravity, making it top heavy. One example of the rebels taking advantage of this weakness is when the Empire assaulted Hoth. Rebel snow speeders attached tow lines toe the walker s legs and wrapped the line around it until the walker got snagged and toppled over. The walker also has a hard time attacking more than one target at a time. Another weakness is the flexible tunnel that runs between the cargo and troop areas of the craft and the head. One direct blast to this tunnel detonated the entire AT AT. The platting on the underbelly of the walker is slightly weaker and easier to damage. The AT AT also has no way to protect against troops beneath its main body, where the lightly armored hatch can be easily cut free and sabotaged. One other big weakness in the design of the AT AT is the fact that it is very slow compared to the smaller AT ST. Also the terrain it is in can limit it much farther, with it moving at its fastest on flat smooth ground and its slowest on steep rocky inclines, and heavily forested areas like the moon of Endor where its usage was far less than the ... So visualization can be visualized as the real thing imagined, the real thing represented and the real thing mediated. And the documentary genre attempts to do exactly the same thing. So in this process of visualization, there comes the creative intervention of the documentary film maker in all phases of production. In other words, aesthetics plays a vital role in documentary film. • 44. Aqueducts Of The Roman Aqueducts For thousands of years, the Aqueducts of Rome have inspired and changed the ways we look at water supply and usage today. The Romans used their engineering and building skills to improve the standard of life of the people of Rome, Revolutionising water collection and usage. By investigating the aqueducts of Rome and presenting evidence and information about how and why they were built, this report will question whether aqueducts were better built than today s bridges. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Access points were also built along the path of the aqueduct to regulate the water supply and clear debris. As the aqueducts approached Rome, the water was emptied into 3 holding tanks castella (see fig.3). Each holding tank pumped water for a specific purpose such as for public baths, drinking fountains or piping water to the rich. None of the water that the aqueducts used was wasted as the left over water was used to flush out sewerage systems, power machinery and for agricultural purposes. The senator Sextus Julius Frontinus from the 1st century AD explained in detail how the aqueducts worked. A quote from his book states the different uses of a Roman aqueduct: The supply which suffices not only for public and private uses and purposes but also for the satisfaction of luxury. The use of water for many different purposes was unique at the time and ensured that little was wasted. Every Roman by the 2nd century AD had free access to public baths and running water, which greatly improved Rome s standard of living at the time. Private access to water was also common with a cost occurring to pipe water to houses and buildings. Sometimes water was tapped unknowingly or pipes were unlawfully connected to the aqueducts or widened. Some privately operated aqueducts were also used and pumped water directly to buildings. Example Of Environmental Injustice Hailey Mason Mrs.Beary Environmental Science 11/17/17 Environmental Injustice Environmental Injustice alludes to socially minimized racial minority groups which are subjected to lopsided presentation of contaminations, the foreswearing of access to wellsprings of biological advantages, (for example, clean air, water, and characteristic assets), or both. Studies going back to the 1970s have indicated a reliable example in who lives close to the sorts of dangers dangerous waste locales, landfills, congested thruways that few of us would readily pick as neighbors. The constant answer: destitute individuals and groups of shading. This example of ecological bad form recommends that minorities may battle each day with unbalanced wellbeing dangers from tailpipe fumes or coal plant outflows. Be that as it may, these wellbeing dangers are harder to measure than, say, the quantity of energy plants in a city. Also, the greater part of the exploration that has attempted to do this has been compelled to a singular metropolitan locale, or to those few places that happen to have extraordinary checking data on sullying. Timely Treatment Of Post Conflict Liberia The Timely Treatment of Post Conflict Liberia Following the end of Liberia s civil war (which was borne out of the relationship of the US and Samuel Doe, the Liberian people elected a government in a free and fair democratic elections), the country was in need of the US and other world powers to help stimulate the country s economy and help rebuild its damaged infrastructure.
