Water Quality And Contamination Of Drinking Water
Water Quality and Contamination
Introduction
Body Paragraph #1 Background: Humans use about 75 gallons of water a day for activities, such as
cooking, cleaning, bathing, and laundry. Not only do we use water for our own well being but we also
use water to keep animals that we eat healthy and maintain vehicles that we drive on an everyday
basis. Only three percent of the water on earth is suitable for drinking, where two percent of water is
found only in glaciers and ice and one percent of the world s water is accessible and drinkable. The
majority of the human body is compromised of water. An adequate supply of safe drinking water is
one of the major prerequisites for a healthy life...(Fawell and Nieuwenhuijsen 2003) The quality of
drinking water and possible associated health risks vary throughout the world with some regions
showing, for example, high levels of arsenic, fluoride or contamination of drinking water by
pathogens, whereas elsewhere these are very low and no problem.
Body Paragraph # 2 Objective: The purpose of this experiment is to compare the effect of plant
growth and biodiversity. I want to know the effect that water has on growth when it is contaminated,
purified, or at its original state. With water being the major prerequisites to a healthy life I want to
know what would happen to me or other species if I were to drink contaminated water or continue to
drink the bottled purified water instead of drinking tap water.

Computer s Ability Ascended And Price Cut Down
During the initial days of Information Technology, when computers were very costly and less
influential than they are nowadays only large administrations and a few entities used them to compose
programs. As, the computer s ability ascended and price cut down, it became accessible in inclusive
diversity of work locations. This directed to a revolution in the environment in which software was
industrialized and maintained and it obscure the requirement to a diverse management and institute.
The result of these variations is apparent in the difficulties of software calamity. The request for great
excellence stylish software systems outperforms the amount of few schemes. The outcome of these
schemes is management related matters which have reserved at a greater importance.

Summary Of Brian Williams Code Of Ethics
Contextualizes and explains our example: Brian Williams was a chief news anchor and managing
editor for NBC Nightly News. He has earned many awards in journalism as well as recognition in the
entertainment field. In 2003, Brian Williams, was reporting on the U.S invasion in Iraq. In this expose,
he flew in 1 of 4 helicopters and one helicopter, the one directly ahead, was hit with an RPG requiring
a forced landing. However, in 2013, Williams went on a late night news show and blatantly stated that
his helicopter was also hit; which was not true. He again retold the false story in 2015 during a tribute
to a former US Army soldier. A few days later, Williams was exposed by other former soldiers that
were witnessed during the event in Iraq. Brian Williams gave false information to the entire United
States, therefore tarnishing his reputation as a reputable, trustworthy news anchor. This led to him
publicly apologizing and later being demoted to work at MSNBC. ... Show more content on

There are certain guidelines that journalists must follow and reporting facts is one of them. Williams
broke this code of ethics for personal reasons when he lied about his helicopter being shot. When a
reporter lies it destroys the reputability of that news source and leads to more distrust in the media
within society. Below are SPJ Code of Ethics, which recommend rules that all journalist should

Communication Concepts in 50 First Dates
Throughout the first half of Communication 101: Introduction to Human Communication we have
been introduced to and discussed a lot of new concepts, ideas, and terms. All of this new material has
been pertinent to how humans interact with one another, while also informing us of the why and how
behind these interactions as well. The amount of new information we have learned would be
impossible to cover and apply to one piece of pop culture, but a lot of what we have learned is
relatable to the movie 50 First Dates. This 2004 movie featuring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore
features numerous examples of normative relationships and key concepts that we have learned about
in class. In this paper I will not only introduce communication terms ... Show more content on

Stereotyping can be defined as the unfair characterization of a person or group of people based off of
assumptions or appearance. Prejudice is just turning stereotypes into a feeling of hatred or unkindness
and is usually due to a feeling of superiority or for a feeling of protection. In conclusion, all of the
terms defined and described above play a role in the movie 50 First Dates and are essential and crucial
to the movie s plot.
Henry is the main character of 50 First Dates, and he is a middle aged man living in Hawaii. Henry
has previously had a bad relationship experience and this has left him hesitant in getting involved in a
relationship again. His mindset is one of avoiding relationships in favor of flings and one night stands,
and this perspective is promoted by the people close to him. However, one morning when eating
breakfast at the local diner he sees a beautiful girl that he hasn t noticed before eating breakfast by
herself. Lacking the confidence to approach her, Henry stares at her for a while before finishing up his
meal and heading to work. The next day however, he is eating at the same diner and this beautiful girl
is there again eating by herself. This time Henry has the nerve to approach her, and ends up striking up

division of Abijah and his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. They were righteous and

The Health And Human Services Commission
Texans are being short changed by the proposed Medicaid cuts. Legislature has told the Texas Health
and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that they must cut $350 million from the Medicaid funding
over the next two years. In order to abide by the legislature s demands, the HHSC has proposed
cutting the reimbursement rates for pediatric physical and occupational therapists on average by 10 to
25 percent. And pediatric speech therapists would face cuts of 16 to 27 percent. Many feel that these
cuts to the therapy payments have little to no effect on the services that children with disabilities
receive. These individuals say that following the orders will assist in reducing the therapy rates and
will reduce the practice of excess therapy. On the opposing side, it has been expressed that cutting
therapy funds that the State of Texas provides has the potential to cause individuals within the
pediatric population to lose crucial therapy services. The planned cuts have the risk to jeopardize the
potential of our nation s young. The cuts also make many agency s that currently provide
occupational, physical and speech therapy vulnerable to closures and lay offs. The people that are
promoting the cuts to the Medicaid funding for providers that offer occupational, physical and speech
therapy feel that the reductions are necessary to curve tale the surplus practice of various agencies.

The Woman Question By Thomas Haggard She
was the fear of racial and political decline. Barely half a century earlier, Thomas Macaulay had
declared the history of England to be emphatically the history of progress , but late Victorians living in
the wake of Darwinian evolution had lost the earlier positivism of their age. Uncertainty over the
immutability of Britain s historical identity, what historian Tim Murray has called the threat of the past
, was manifested in the Victorian obsession with ancient times and archaeology. Haggard was greatly
interested in the ruins discovered at Zimbabwe in the 1870 s.
Haggard was strongly influenced by archaeology and evolutionary theories, especially ideas about the
racialisation of historical decline prevalent during the fin de siècle. ... Show more content on

The use of the word savage to describe her makes it clear that Holly has little respect for other cultures
and feels equally justified in his imposition of Western values on the Amahagger people. Additionally,
the idea that he would always creep u once upon his knees once he began to do so demonstrates a
feeling of being dehumanized by showing respect to this savage queen, and suggests that an ascertain
of his superiority is vital to maintain not only his pride but also his humanity. In many parts of the
novel Holly compares his English home life to that in Africa. Although in many parts, he describes

ocean , gentle breeze, and shaded silver lights . Instead of a mere sight, Holly begins to explain the

understands that as an Englishman, they have already conquered this land. Africa, then, was not a

Selecting The Female Reproductive System Essay
Selecting the female reproductive system to present was slightly awkward with me being a male. In
addition to having to have a presentation in a public forum having to provide visual aids of the female
reproductive system to my fellow classmates. I didn t look forward to that at all. With that being said,
I moved forward with my research on the pathologies of the female reproductive system. I did not take
long at all to recognize some familiar terminology related to the pathological anomalies of the female
reproductive system that I was familiar with. Pathological terminology such as Fibroids (tissue
overgrowth) and Endometriosis (pain in the uterine lining). I had a few people close to me who have
suffered from complications of those pathological disorders which led to the loss of pregnancy. At
different moments in our life at one time or another will have someone close to us experiencing some
issues of the female reproductive system. Having the knowledge of the causes, symptoms,
complications and treatments will enable us to not only understand what they are going through but
with that knowledge we can comfort them as well. Having a working knowledge of the female
reproductive system is beneficial in many areas. In addition to helping those close to us, as a radiology
technologist we can better assist or patients.

The Presence of the Alu Sequence Using PCR
Introduction
For millions of years, repetitive DNA sequences such as the Alu sequence have been randomly
inserted in the human genome. In this experiment, I will study whether or not the repetitive element
such as the Alu sequence is present in the PV92 region of chromosome 16 of my DNA. I will then
gather the data from my Biology Lab Class and compare it with those of the United States. To perform
this experiment, the method of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) will be used to amplify the DNA.

order for it to be spun in a balanced centrifuge. The micro test tube that contained the 1 ml of saline

the cells were present at the bottom of the tube, the saline was poured off and the tube was vortexed to

Corporate Governance ( Sarbanes Oxley )
Introduction;
Corporate Governance provides the guidelines as to how the company can be directed and controlled
such that it can fulfil its goals and objectives in a manner that adds to the value of the company and is
also beneficial for all stakeholders in the long term. Stakeholders will include everyone ranging from
the board of directors, management, shareholders to customers, employees; in society the management
of the company hence assumes the role of a trustee for all the others (Tricker, 2012).
Evolution of corporate governance:

Essay On Deckard In David Desser s Blade Runner
Hard boiled detective fiction and film noir are extremely prevalent in the 1982 film Blade Runner. In
his article Blade Runner. Science Fiction and Transcendence, David Desser gives multiple examples
of elements of the hard boiled universe in Blade Runner: Deckard is an ex cop, an ex blade runner,
doubtless in part because of the corruption of the system as seen in Captain Bryant, who calls
replicants skin jobs (the equivalent of calling black people niggers), and in Gaff, who dresses like a
dandy. Most importantly, however, Deckard is alienated from his fellow man, divorced that is, not
only from his wife (who he tells us, thought of him as sushi cold fish ), but from all of humanity. It is
ironic and significant that when Deckard does finally fall in love, does finally make a genuine
emotional commitment, it is with a replicant a woman who is not a human. In order to completely
understand what makes this an element of the hard boiled universe, one must understand what hard
boiled even means. In the case of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without them, the film would be dry and wouldn t have anything for the viewers to relate to. Deckard
seems like an ordinary retired person going through the similar issue of finding himself. An issue in
which many people face in real life. Although his way of discovering himself occurs in a much
different way than it does for us because we don t have replicants that have escaped from Off World
colonies that we have to track down and eliminate. We do, however, have tasks to complete ourselves
and some do turn out to have a soul searching event that changes the way you feel about yourself and
who you are. Without the dreary setting of Los Angeles, we wouldn t be able to empathize with the
characters in the film for having to endure such poor living conditions. Hard boiled fiction and film
noir are definitely necessary components that are artfully distributed throughout the

Working Memory Analysis
Summary
Past work has found that forgetting what one was doing prior to interruption is an every day problems
(Morgan, Patrick, Waldron, King, Patrick, 2009). A recent hypothesis (Gray, Sims, Fu, Schoelles,
2006) emphasizes the strategic adaptation of information processing strategy to the task environment.
For instance, load theory predicts that concurrent working memory; load impairs selective attention
and increases distractor interference (Park, Kim, Chun, 2007). The type of concurrent working
memory load determines whether load impairs selective attention or not. Working memory load was
paired with a same/different matching task that required focusing on targets while ignoring distractors.
The main focus is distractors in the two articles even when the time available to refresh memory traces
is kept constant, increasing the processing time still results in poorer recall, confirming that time
related decay is the source of forgetting within working memory (Portrat, Barrouillet, Camos, 2008).
According to the time based resource sharing model (Barrouillet, Bernardin, Camos, 2004), the
cognitive load a given task involves is a function of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

First Day Of Shemu Essay
Today marked the first day of Shemu, which is the first day of the season of the harvest. I didn t want
to wake up at sunrise this morning, but today was extremely special to us farmers. We no longer have
to farm, but instead relax. We started to harvest our crops that we have grown for the past 5 months.
The crops that my family and I have grown are melons, vegetables, flax, and figs. I harvested the flax
first since I know that the priests will need to convert the flax into linens for their garments. Maybe I ll
even get to see the Pharaoh at the marketplace tomorrow! Actually, Pharaoh Thutmose III, isn t very

That s very unlikely, but a girl can dream. I wonder how it feels to live even after you die. Once you

life. Since I m part of one of the lower social classes, I won t have a mummification that s as good as
one of a scribe or a priest. For all social classes, however, your organs are removed and places in
sealed canopic jars, you are wrapped in bandages with amulets, and you re placed in a sarcophagus.
After they were buried in the ground with all of their possessions, the deceased would follow Anubis
to a hall in the Underworld. Osiris, other deities, 42 judges, and Thoth were to judge you based on
how heavy your heart was compared to a feather. If your heart weighed more than a feather, you
would be eaten by Amit, a half lion, half hippopotamus. If your heart weighed less than a feather, you
would be allowed to go to Iaru, or paradise. The only way you would be able to make it here is if your
soul could make it out alive on a journey on the boat of Ra through a lake of fire, crocodiles, snakes,
and Apophis, who was condemned to sink the boat of Ra. Wow, that s a lot of information. The only

Youth And The Hip Hop Youth Culture
Australian Youth Culture
Introduction
Youth has various definitions. It can be considered as a state of mind, a life stage, or a stage of
development. Youth can also be considered as a creation of marketing and a demographic category.
Youth cultures as well as subcultures based on the theory or theories applied refer to cultures that in
most part comprise of young people as the members. Youth cultures are determined by ways of living
and they revolve around peer groups that stress a definitive style of living as an external designation of
affiliation and appearance. In this essay, I will analyse how globalisation, popular culture, and
consumerism emerge as factors that influence the participation of young people in the hip hop youth
culture in Australia. I will also apply the human ecological theory in order to facilitate the
understanding of factors that affect youth participation in the hip hop culture.
Culture is generally described as a way of life. It entails the meanings, values, practices, and beliefs
that are usually contrasted with structure, nature, and biology (Alim, 2006). As a concept, culture can
be divided into two. The first classification of culture is the expressive culture form which comprises
of argot, artifact, behaviour, and clothing that constitute the expression of a given youth culture (ibid).
The second classification of culture is the impressive form of culture content. This implies to the
culture meaning (ibid). In the same vein, youth

Kyoto Protocol And Global Warming
In December 1997, Kyoto protocol was signed to address global warming specifically. Global
warming is the gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth s atmosphere and its oceans
due to green house gases emissions. (NRDC, 2005) In the past 100 years, the rate of global warming is
unprecedented. In fact, global warming has become one of the most challenging environmental
problems in the 21st century. In order to effectively address this issue, international cooperation is
necessary. Through international cooperation, undeveloped countries are able to overcome financial
obstacles in meeting their targets. In addition, it could also promote worldwide technology sharing,
data foundations and public awareness of climate change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For starters, modern economy relies heavily on fossil fuels, which is a main resource that contributes
to global warming. Adopting renewable energy might sharply reduce GHG emissions. However,
according to international energy agency, switching from fossil fuels to low carbon sources of energy
will cost $44 trillion between now and 2050 (IEA, 2009). In case 44 trillion is too abstract, 1 trillion
dollar can fill up an entire soccer field and stack more than 10 feet high. This cost could be
intimidating for any country. Moreover, the cost also depends on how long it takes for us to start
reducing emissions. The IPCC report showed that continuing to hold off on reducing emissions could
increase costs by 40 percent (IPCC, 2008) For developing countries, this cost would be a financial
burden and a limiting reagent on GDP growth. Socially, civilian s life quality will be affected by the
GDP reduction. As a result, it becomes more challenging for countries to take initiative in addressing
this problem. The question eventually came down to whom should bear the astronomical cost? Are we
willing to invest in something that might cost more than its benefits?
Evaluation on its Successfulness
The achievements of Kyoto Protocol have been controversial. Nevertheless, the agreement has had a
mix of success. In order to evaluate its successfulness, we need data of the emission level of Annex I
parties from 1990 to 2012 explicitly. As a result, the United States did not ratify the

In a country as vast and as culturally diverse as Canada, many different political opinions can be found

Compare And Contrast Superman Vs Batman
Who would win in a fight between Superman and Batman? is a question that has dated back to the
creation of both characters. Starting with the launch of the New 52 event, DC Comics revamped their
entire comic line rewriting the history and abilities of their characters. I will be focusing on the state of
both Superman and Batman as they exist after the New 52. While many would argue that Batman
could outsmart Superman, I would argue that Superman s overall strength and previous history
fighting Batman would suggest Superman would win. When it comes to pure unadulterated power
Superman is undoubtedly stronger than Batman. Superman possess immense strength, enough to

involves distracting him with thoughts of his parents or taking hostages. Batman, like Superman, has a
self imposed aversion to killing, however, he is not forced to show the same level of restraint to meet

Pro And Cons Of Genetic Modification
Approximately 4 million babies are born each year, among them, nearly 160,000 have a high chance
of having genetic disorders said, Anne Matthews, an associate professor. Every parent s dream is to
have a perfectly healthy and thriving child. No parent will want his or her child to have any disease. In
1973, Herbert Boyer and Stanley discovered method called genetic modification ( GNN Genetics and
Genomics Timeline ). Genetic modification is the manipulation of organism genes using biology and
technology. Gene modification includes different types of techniques such as cloning and genetic
engineering. Genetic enhancement is the transfer of genetic material intended to non pathological
human traits, said Kathi Hanna, a biomedical research writer. Gene enhancement is used to make
people not only healthy but also raise their capacities. According to Begley Sharon, the senior science
writer for Stat, 65 percent of individual support that altering gene of an unborn baby should be illegal.
Parents should not have the right to genetically enhance their unborn child because it will limit the
child s freedom and will lead to societal issues.
The first reason why parents should not change the genes of their child is that it limits the child s
autonomy. In the U.S, most adolescents are dependent by the age of 18. Since most of them are
dependent, it means that they can already take care of themselves and make thoughtful decisions. A
child who is genetically modified will be

EDST 1104 Social Perspectives in Education
Assessment 2 Essay
TANUWIJAYA, Wirya
Z3483970
Why is it important and/or helpful for initial teacher educators such as yourself, to learn about, and
learn to use, ideas from the sociology of education?
Social influences on educational outcomes and the social nature of education structures of the past and
present exemplify how social institutions can affect education perceived by individuals. This can also
be defined as the sociology of education; a study of education systems of how social institutions and
individual experiences affect education and its outcome, as interpreted by Scott and Marshall (2009).
This essay will address how the background of sociology of education (culture of power that exist)
shapes the current social perspectives in education, how sociology of education contributes and its
usefulness for initial educators.
Sociology, education and history
Firstly, it is fundamental for scholars to understand the relationship between the roots of educational
sociology and the sociology of education. Education is being integrated into sociology, the latter
considered by many educators as a supporting beam of pedagogy (in addition to philosophy,
anthropology, psychology, biology, ethics and aesthetics). Through this, the knowledge of sociological
method, problems and generalizations may be adequately interpreted to every educator. Surely,
contemporary education cannot disregard the contributions of sociology. In

How Is Brutus A Tragic Hero
Brutus: The True Tragic Hero of Julius Caesar
In Julius Caesar, it would make sense to assume Julius Caesar is the tragic hero being that the title of
the play is Julius Caesar; however Brutus is arguably the real tragic hero due to several reasons: he
remains for the entirety of the story unlike Caesar, he possesses a character flaw that brings about his
downfall and also learns something about himself. Before any argument is made, it is important to
define tragic hero: A man or woman who was a respected royal or noble person who possessed some
character flaw that would eventually bring about his/her downfall; the flaw was often pride, anger, or
just rash behavior which causes him to suffer and learn something important about himself. This
definition is important as it will determine why Brutus is or isn t the tragic hero of the play. Although
Caesar dies because of one of his own flaws it is not hard to argue against him being the tragic hero.

Many times he blows an easy decision to better his cause by giving his opponent the upper hand, one
such instance occurs when he allows Mark Antony to speak at Caesar s funeral inciting the mobs to go

earlier and even after missing that chance simply refusing him the chance to speak at the funeral. In
some ways Shakespeare uses Brutus s name in an allegorical form since Brutus sounds similar to
brute. A brute is someone or something that merely does what they re told and nothing else; however
this isn t entirely accurate as Brutus does think for himself, but sometimes is oblivious to things that
would be obvious to most. Brutus s character flaw could be considered to be this: a lack of strategy

Consequences And Implications For The Globalization Of Crime
1) Held, describes globalisation as the growing interconnectedness of states and societies and the
progressive enmeshment of human communities with each other (Held,2000) over the last few
centuries, human communities have come into increasing contact with each other; their collective
fortunes have become intertwined (ibid) His definition is useful because it points to the long history of
the globalising processes. Globalisation also has consequences that come along with its growth and
interconnectedness, Held et al claimed that there had been a globalisation of crime due to the
increasing interconnectedness of crime across national borders. Globalisation aids in creating new
opportunities for crime and new means of committing crime and new offences for example various
cyber crimes. A principal driver that can be identified to explain globalisations acceleration in the last
few decades is technology. Information and communication technology has allowed international
trade and finance to become despatialised to a large extent (J. Pakes 2013) This has allowed
outsourcing for instance, and the emergence of a truly global marketplace, increasing the value and
proficiency of multinational companies.
Consequences of globalisation for the discipline of criminology has beneficial advantages but it also
comes along with disadvantages. A beneficial effect is that Globalisation may help in making people

The 1986 West End Production
Chess
Jarrett Winters Morley
(For the purposes of this essay, I will be focusing on the 1986 West End production instead of the
1988 Broadway production.)
Chess is an original musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with book and lyrics
by Tim Rice. The story follows an unexpected relationship between a Soviet chess grandmaster and a
woman who manages his opponent during the World Chess Match in Bangkok, Thailand. The
significance of the World Chess match in this story is tremendous because it takes place during the
climax of the Cold War, and the two adversaries whom are to face each other are from America and
the U.S.S.R, and each country wants their grandmaster to win for propaganda purposes. The main
characters in the story are not representations of real people, but are thought to hold their roots in
Bobby Fischer, one of the greatest American chess grandmasters of all time and former World
Champion, and Anatoly Karpov, one of the greatest Russian chess grandmaster and former World
Champion.
Chess was first released as an album in 1984 before any stage productions were attempted, partly to
raise the money and to see how the music would fair. On May 14th, 1986, it opened as a stage
production at London s West End at the Prince Edward Theatre and ran for three years. Two years
later, it opened on Broadway, and flopped after a run of two months. The show received extremely
varied reactions, ranging from far too long to eclectic and stirring .

Defence as a system, is under rated by many coaches in youth and professional football. According to
a survey conducted by students of National Institute of Physical Education in Lleida, Spain, individual
and collective defence practice is generally occupying less than 15 % of all training sessions (Wein,
2004). It is not surprising to see that the players who win individual awards at the end of every season
is either a goal scoring machine or a midfield maestro. Although there have been few exceptions
(Fabio Cannavaro, Franz Beckenbauer, Lev Yashin), the trend of goal scorers or goal makers being
valued over goal defenders continues. The game is based on attacking and defending, yet it is difficult
to make people understand how significant the art of defending is. A good attack, like a good defence,
decreases the number of losses a club racks up, but defence provides a more powerful statistical
explanation for why teams lose Anderson and Sally, 2013, p. 119). Between 2001/02 and 2010/2011,

The Psychology of The Gambler Essay
The Psychology of The Gambler
In Fyodor Dostoyevsky s The Gambler, we are presented with a novel whose protagonist is what we
would call today a problem gambler. The gambling mania of the story s hero, Alexei Ivanovitch, is a
mirror of Dostoyevsky s own gambling compulsion. The heroine, Polina Alexandrovna, represents a
woman Dostoyevsky had as a real lover. Polina is the stepdaughter of the General, who Alexei works
for as a servant. The General shows paranoia over gambling from the outset of the story. He censures
Alexei with respect to his care of the children, I suppose you would like to take them to the Casino to
play roulette? Well, excuse my speaking so plainly, but I know how addicted you are to gambling.

He struggles with moralizing over this but knows a change in his fortunes can be had from successful
gambling, I had long ago made up my mind, that never should I depart from Roulettenberg until some
radical change had taken place in my fortunes...why is gambling a whit worse than any other method
of acquiring money? How, for instance, is it worse than trade? True, out of a hundred persons, only
once can win; yet what business is that of yours or mine? (Dostoyevsky 8).
When it comes to writers and writing, there is an old maxim that is often repeated, Write what you
know. Dostoyevsky seems to have taken this advice to heart when it comes to his own writing. For the
gambler is based on a real love affair had by the author as well as being a first hand account of the
behaviors and psyches of the addicted gambler (which he was for a period of time). As Christine
McKay (2) points out, The Gambler is based on Dostoyevsky s love affair with Apollinaria Suslova as
well as his frequent casino visits to play roulette, which he began playing in 1863, at a time when he
was extremely poor. He experienced first hand the excesses of gambling so aptly described in The
Gambler.

as a servant. This too is an autobiographical element of the

Leon Trotsky, a Leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and...
Most historians agree that throughout his political career Trotsky displayed various talents and
abilities. However, these skills alone were not enough to enable him to become the supreme leader of
the USSR. In the context of the workings of the Bolshevik party to rise to the highest office of the
politburo required certain traits and qualities as well as an ability to utilise the party machine and
exploit its members talents, traits and qualities Trotsky clearly lacked. For these reasons the statement
is highly accurate because in spite of his ability, Trotsky s failure to rise to the highest office in the
land was a consequence of his arrogance, political naivety and inability to turn success into political
capital.
This statement is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the many roles that Trotsky undertook in his political career, notably Commissar for War
prove that Trotsky was most definitely the most able of men . According to Service, Trotsky as
Commissar for War surprised everyone with his organisational capacity and ruthlessness as he
transformed the Red Army into a fighting force . During his role as commissar Trotsky was able to
increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced conscription, maintained obedience and
discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and the death penalty for deserters and used ex
Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army. Trotsky s ability to successfully transform the
Red Army and the significant role he played in Civil War are largely the reason for the Bolshevik
victory and further highlight that Trotsky was the most able of men .
However, despite his ability Trotsky was not able to rise to the highest office in the Land, as he lack
political motivation, the personality traits required and a utilisation of the party apparatus.
Trotsky despite his talents and status as a communist leader was disliked by his peers. His arrogance,
condescension and perceived intellectual superiority alienated many of members of the politburo. If in
an address that bored Trotsky he was known to have openly read a novel instead. Lenin himself raised
concerns regarding the assured arrogance of Trotsky in his last testament writing that he is perhaps the
most capable

The Video Called Through Deaf Eyes Made Me
The video called Through Deaf Eyes made me think a lot about what they had to overcome to get to
where they are today. As I watched the movie several things made me stop and think about how hard
some of them had it growing up. In the beginning of the movie, I learned that 90% of deaf people have
hearing parents. Then only 10% of those parents who have deaf children even learn sign language.
Then to top it off only 1% of those parents are fathers. I feel that most people who have deaf children,
feel like there is something wrong with their child. When in reality the only thing is their hearing. It
just aggravates me when parents won t take time to learn something, so that way they can
communicate with their children. To me all kids should be able to communicate with their parents in
the way that is easy for them. To tie into this a little more I m going to jump to the end of the movie,
where they were interviewing two families. The first family made their kids get cochlear implants,
hearing aids. Had them take speaking lessons, and didn t allow their kids to sign. The other family let
their son learn sign language. They also learned sign language, so they could communicate with their
child. I feel like, the first family felt like their children were less than them. They had their kids stand
behind them during the interview. They talked directly towards the camera the whole time didn t look
towards their kid. The second family sat next to their child, like they were all

The Battle Against General Magnus And His Army
It was 1930 at the railhead on Fort Bragg; they had completed loading the equipment on the big black
iron monster of a train, and covering them with heavy black tarps, which they secured to the flatbeds.
Colonel Lambert was no longer running the combat train; he remained back in Washington D.C. with
his command, the 3rd Infantry Regiment. With the Army of the Potomac less than thirty miles out of
the capital it was time for him to return to his duties. He placed Major Reese Sales in charge of this
particular mission; it was of the highest importance and no doubt would make a huge difference in the
fight against General Magnus and his Army. There were only a few people aware of the cargo that was
being transported north, the Major of course, Colonel Lambert, Brigadier General Clayton who s idea
it was, and the post commander of Fort Bragg. Major Sales boarded the train with the additional
Soldiers he was bringing with him from Bragg; they were there to operate the equipment they were
transporting. It would take a little over twelve hours to make it to the capital, another couple of hours
to unload everything, test it, and then get it into action. Both General Clayton and Colonel Lambert
were foaming at the mouth to get them there and into the fight. The train moved out at 1945 under the
cover of darkness, it was time to get some shut eye Major Sales said to himself, come morning they
were going to be very busy. Brigadier General Clayton was back in Washington D.C.

Prescription Drug Coverage Analysis
Prescription drug coverage is fragmented as provinces and territories have control over which drugs
are included in their basket of services, and which are not. The ability for each province/territory to
decide what prescription drugs are covered has led to great variability in which drugs are covered and
the method of coverage across Canada. Variation in drug coverage plans is the biggest problem in
Canada s health care system as it is responsible for the high costs of prescription drugs. These high
costs are associated with Canadians halting treatment due to unaffordability. Furthermore,
nonadherence to prescription medications proceeds to increase health care costs via increases in
emergency room trips.
To emphasize the variation, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lower income populations are innately more susceptible to poor health outcomes due to limitations in
lifestyle choices. Moreover, chronic illness is prevalent in these populations, suggesting this
population has high usage of prescription drugs. However, a dangerous situation arises; low income
patients suffering from health issues needing prescription medications are unable to adhere to
treatment plans attributable to the lack of coverage resulting in expensive drug fees. By not continuing
treatment, the health status of these patients will deteriorate, forcing them to return to
hospitals/emergency rooms for help, incurring approx. $41,253 in hospital bills if major intervention
is required (Patient Cost Estimator). Evidence lies in drug spending in hospitals by province while
accounting for population size. As mentioned above, Atlantic provinces have significantly less drug
coverage; both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia have large drug expenditures in hospitals for their
population size; $70.9 billion and $97.3 billion, respectively, high costs are attributable to the poor
coverage which force individuals to seek emergency room treatment.
Essentially, the mistake of not including a universal drug plan, one shared by all provinces/territories,
is the biggest problem faced by Canada s health care as foreseeable health consequences from high
drug

Legislature has told the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that they must cut $350 million from the Medicaid funding over the next two years. In order to abide by the legislature s demands, the HHSC has proposed cutting the reimbursement rates for pediatric physical and occupational therapists on average by 10 to 25 percent. And pediatric speech therapists would face cuts of 16 to 27 percent. Many feel that these cuts to the therapy payments have little to no effect on the services that children with disabilities receive. These individuals say that following the orders will assist in reducing the therapy rates and will reduce the practice of excess therapy. On the opposing side, it has been expressed that cutting therapy funds that the State of Texas provides has the potential to cause individuals within the pediatric population to lose crucial therapy services. The planned cuts have the risk to jeopardize the potential of our nation s young. The cuts also make many agency s that currently provide occupational, physical and speech therapy vulnerable to closures and lay offs. The people that are promoting the cuts to the Medicaid funding for providers that offer occupational, physical and speech therapy feel that the reductions are necessary to curve tale the surplus practice of various agencies. Barely half a century earlier, Thomas Macaulay had declared the history of England to be emphatically the history of progress , but late Victorians living in the wake of Darwinian evolution had lost the earlier positivism of their age. Uncertainty over the immutability of Britain s historical identity, what historian Tim Murray has called the threat of the past , was manifested in the Victorian obsession with ancient times and archaeology. Haggard was greatly interested in the ruins discovered at Zimbabwe in the 1870 s. It is ironic and significant that when Deckard does finally fall in love, does finally make a genuine emotional commitment, it is with a replicant a woman who is not a human. A recent hypothesis (Gray, Sims, Fu, Schoelles, 2006) emphasizes the strategic adaptation of information processing strategy to the task environment. For instance, load theory predicts that concurrent working memory; load impairs selective attention and increases distractor interference (Park, Kim, Chun, 2007). The type of concurrent working memory load determines whether load impairs selective attention or not. Working memory load was paired with a same/different matching task that required focusing on targets while ignoring distractors. The main focus is distractors in the two articles even when the time available to refresh memory traces is kept constant, increasing the processing time still results in poorer recall, confirming that time related decay is the source of forgetting within working memory (Portrat, Barrouillet, Camos, 2008). For starters, modern economy relies heavily on fossil fuels, which is a main resource that contributes to global warming. Adopting renewable energy might sharply reduce GHG emissions. However, according to international energy agency, switching from fossil fuels to low carbon sources of energy will cost $44 trillion between now and 2050 (IEA, 2009). In case 44 trillion is too abstract, 1 trillion dollar can fill up an entire soccer field and stack more than 10 feet high. This cost could be intimidating for any country. Moreover, the cost also depends on how long it takes for us to start reducing emissions. The IPCC report showed that continuing to hold off on reducing emissions could increase costs by 40 percent (IPCC, 2008) For developing countries, this cost would be a financial burden and a limiting reagent on GDP growth. Encounters between Superman and Batman have happened many times over the years for a variety of reasons. In examining the history of the battles I will be focusing on the main Earth 1 universe, and only events that occurred after the New 52 reboot event. I also want to focus on times when both parties where acting on their own free will and not under any type of mind control despite the frequency of those events, as they don t factor in Superman s restraint when using his ... Pro And Cons Of Genetic Modification Approximately 4 million babies are born each year, among them, nearly 160,000 have a high chance of having genetic disorders said, Anne Matthews, an associate professor. Every parent s dream is to have a perfectly healthy and thriving child. No parent will want his or her child to have any disease. In 1973, Herbert Boyer and Stanley discovered method called genetic modification ( GNN Genetics and Genomics Timeline ). Genetic modification is the manipulation of organism genes using biology and technology. Gene modification includes different types of techniques such as cloning and genetic engineering. Genetic enhancement is the transfer of genetic material intended to non pathological human traits, said Kathi Hanna, a biomedical research writer. Gene enhancement is used to make people not only healthy but also raise their capacities. According to Begley Sharon, the senior science writer for Stat, 65 percent of individual support that altering gene of an unborn baby should be illegal. Parents should not have the right to genetically enhance their unborn child because it will limit the child s freedom and will lead to societal issues. The first reason why parents should not change the genes of their child is that it limits the child s autonomy. In the U.S, most adolescents are dependent by the age of 18. Since most of them are dependent, it means that they can already take care of themselves and make thoughtful decisions. A child who is genetically modified will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

EDST 1104 Social Perspectives in Education Assessment 2 Essay TANUWIJAYA, Wirya Z3483970 Why is it important and/or helpful for initial teacher educators such as yourself, to learn about, and learn to use, ideas from the sociology of education? Social influences on educational outcomes and the social nature of education structures of the past and present exemplify how social institutions can affect education perceived by individuals. This can also be defined as the sociology of education; a study of education systems of how social institutions and individual experiences affect education and its outcome, as interpreted by Scott and Marshall (2009). This essay will address how the background of sociology of education (culture of power that exist) shapes the current social perspectives in education, how sociology of education contributes and its usefulness for initial educators. Sociology, education and history Firstly, it is fundamental for scholars to understand the relationship between the roots of educational sociology and the sociology of education. Education is being integrated into sociology, the latter considered by many educators as a supporting beam of pedagogy (in addition to philosophy, anthropology, psychology, biology, ethics and aesthetics). Through this, the knowledge of sociological method, problems and generalizations may be adequately interpreted to every educator. Surely, contemporary education cannot disregard the contributions of sociology. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Is Brutus A Tragic Hero Brutus: The True Tragic Hero of Julius Caesar In Julius Caesar, it would make sense to assume Julius Caesar is the tragic hero being that the title of the play is Julius Caesar; however Brutus is arguably the real tragic hero due to several reasons: he remains for the entirety of the story unlike Caesar, he possesses a character flaw that brings about his downfall and also learns something about himself. Before any argument is made, it is important to define tragic hero: A man or woman who was a respected royal or noble person who possessed some character flaw that would eventually bring about his/her downfall; the flaw was often pride, anger, or just rash behavior which causes him to suffer and learn something important about himself. This definition is important as it will determine why Brutus is or isn t the tragic hero of the play. Although Caesar dies because of one of his own flaws it is not hard to argue against him being the tragic hero. He dies so quickly, the audience hardly has a chance to form ... Many times he blows an easy decision to better his cause by giving his opponent the upper hand, one such instance occurs when he allows Mark Antony to speak at Caesar s funeral inciting the mobs to go against Brutus. This could have been easily avoided if Brutus had taken the opportunity to kill Antony earlier and even after missing that chance simply refusing him the chance to speak at the funeral. In some ways Shakespeare uses Brutus s name in an allegorical form since Brutus sounds similar to brute. A brute is someone or something that merely does what they re told and nothing else; however this isn t entirely accurate as Brutus does think for himself, but sometimes is oblivious to things that would be obvious to most. • 36. Consequences And Implications For The Globalization Of Crime 1) Held, describes globalisation as the growing interconnectedness of states and societies and the progressive enmeshment of human communities with each other (Held,2000) over the last few centuries, human communities have come into increasing contact with each other; their collective fortunes have become intertwined (ibid) His definition is useful because it points to the long history of the globalising processes. Globalisation also has consequences that come along with its growth and interconnectedness, Held et al claimed that there had been a globalisation of crime due to the increasing interconnectedness of crime across national borders. Globalisation aids in creating new opportunities for crime and new means of committing crime and new offences for example various cyber crimes. A principal driver that can be identified to explain globalisations acceleration in the last few decades is technology. Information and communication technology has allowed international trade and finance to become despatialised to a large extent (J. Pakes 2013) This has allowed outsourcing for instance, and the emergence of a truly global marketplace, increasing the value and proficiency of multinational companies. Consequences of globalisation for the discipline of criminology has beneficial advantages but it also comes along with disadvantages. Chess is an original musical with music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with book and lyrics by Tim Rice. The story follows an unexpected relationship between a Soviet chess grandmaster and a woman who manages his opponent during the World Chess Match in Bangkok, Thailand. The significance of the World Chess match in this story is tremendous because it takes place during the climax of the Cold War, and the two adversaries whom are to face each other are from America and the U.S.S.R, and each country wants their grandmaster to win for propaganda purposes. The main characters in the story are not representations of real people, but are thought to hold their roots in Bobby Fischer, one of the greatest American chess grandmasters of all time and former World Champion, and Anatoly Karpov, one of the greatest Russian chess grandmaster and former World Champion. Chess was first released as an album in 1984 before any stage productions were attempted, partly to raise the money and to see how the music would fair. On May 14th, 1986, it opened as a stage production at London s West End at the Prince Edward Theatre and ran for three years. Two years later, it opened on Broadway, and flopped after a run of two months. The show received extremely varied reactions, ranging from far too long to eclectic and stirring . ... According to a survey conducted by students of National Institute of Physical Education in Lleida, Spain, individual and collective defence practice is generally occupying less than 15 % of all training sessions (Wein, 2004). It is not surprising to see that the players who win individual awards at the end of every season is either a goal scoring machine or a midfield maestro. Although there have been few exceptions (Fabio Cannavaro, Franz Beckenbauer, Lev Yashin), the trend of goal scorers or goal makers being valued over goal defenders continues. The game is based on attacking and defending, yet it is difficult to make people understand how significant the art of defending is. A good attack, like a good defence, decreases the number of losses a club racks up, but defence provides a more powerful statistical explanation for why teams lose Anderson and Sally, 2013, p. 119). The Psychology of The Gambler Essay The Psychology of The Gambler In Fyodor Dostoyevsky s The Gambler, we are presented with a novel whose protagonist is what we would call today a problem gambler. The gambling mania of the story s hero, Alexei Ivanovitch, is a mirror of Dostoyevsky s own gambling compulsion. The heroine, Polina Alexandrovna, represents a woman Dostoyevsky had as a real lover. Polina is the stepdaughter of the General, who Alexei works for as a servant. The General shows paranoia over gambling from the outset of the story. How, for instance, is it worse than trade? True, out of a hundred persons, only once can win; yet what business is that of yours or mine? (Dostoyevsky 8). When it comes to writers and writing, there is an old maxim that is often repeated, Write what you know. Dostoyevsky seems to have taken this advice to heart when it comes to his own writing. For the gambler is based on a real love affair had by the author as well as being a first hand account of the behaviors and psyches of the addicted gambler (which he was for a period of time). During his role as commissar Trotsky was able to increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced conscription, maintained obedience and discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and the death penalty for deserters and used ex Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army. The ability for each province/territory to decide what prescription drugs are covered has led to great variability in which drugs are covered and the method of coverage across Canada. Variation in drug coverage plans is the biggest problem in Canada s health care system as it is responsible for the high costs of prescription drugs. These high costs are associated with Canadians halting treatment due to unaffordability. Furthermore, nonadherence to prescription medications proceeds to increase health care costs via increases in emergency room trips. To emphasize the variation, I will ... By not continuing treatment, the health status of these patients will deteriorate, forcing them to return to hospitals/emergency rooms for help, incurring approx. $41,253 in hospital bills if major intervention is required (Patient Cost Estimator).
