How The Sports Played In The 16th Century
Today I am going to be writing about sports that were played in the 16th century and also the early
17th century .Shockingly these sports are still around today and are still being played all over the
world. Most of these sports that were enjoyed and loved by people prior to now are basically the same.
Sports will always be enjoyed and are a good form of enter tainment to people all around the globe.
By the 16th Century Calcia Fiorentino is an early form of football that orginated in Italy. The sport
was played in the Piazza Santa Croc Which was there football stadium and there where hundreds of
people could watch. Mostly Calcia was reserved for the rich and it would be played every night from
Janurary 6 March 24. The game was played on a field of sand quite diffrent from today s matches and
was played for 50 mintues. Goals were scored by throwing the football over the netting on the
oppenents side of the field and the winning teams were the team who had the most goals scored. There
was 1 main refferee and 1 field master watching the game. Both Teams were very competitive and the
people enjoyed it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the12th century tennis was played in a open area and people often used there hand and or glove to

playing area, and the rules had stabilized. Real tennis spread in popularity throughout in Europe

Moving Near Volcanic Areas
Have you ever thought about possible questions when moving near volcanic areas? If I am thinking of
moving to a city near a volcano, I would consider what I could do if the volcano erupts, how can I
protect myself, what safety measures should I consider, I would inform myself of everything
necessary to avoid diseases. It is very important to be informed of how we can react in case a volcano
is active, imagine that I am in a city where there is an active volcano about to erupt and what possible
measures I should take. What problems could develop because of volcanic ash? These are some
problems that can develop because of volcanic ash: Respiratory problems, because people inhale the
particles detached from the ashes. Therefore, individuals who are in good health will have discomfort
in the chest, followed by dry cough, sore throat, breathing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You should always keep in mind that an area of volcanoes is not always predictable when they are
going to erupt. However, you must have an evacuation route, so you do not waste time searching for
one. Try to follow the suggestions recommended by the authorities in charge. When evacuating, you
should not forget to protect your eyes with glasses or a damp towel around your face, wear a long
sleeved shirt to avoid skin irritations or burns, wear pants and use a mouth mask that will prevent you
from inhaling dust. In conclusion, I think you should always consider what to do in cases where the
volcano can erupt, be informed about what to do and where to go in case it happens. I planted the idea
that it can be done in a situation where the volcano erupts more than anything to know what to do. But
you should always ask when was the last time it erupted, it is advisable to live near the areas of the
volcanoes, how the changes in the volcano are presented, how to know where to go if the volcano is
active, etc. You always must be one step ahead of

College Life and Stress
In the research article by MacNair and Elliott, it is stated that college students are more prone to stress
(D Zurilla Sheedy, 1991) because of the transitional nature of college life (Towbes Cohen, 1996). The
main contributing factors to the stress is being away from home for the first time, trying hard to
maintain academic achievement and adjusting to a new social environment. How they handle the
stress will affect the way they make decisions and solve problems that arises as they go through
college life. A scale called the Student Stress Survey, which is a questionnaire of 40 potentially
stressful scenarios, is used to determine the sources of stress. According to the article, there are five
main sources of stress. A change in sleeping habits, vacations/breaks, changes in eating habits, new
responsibilities and increased work load. The outcome of stress may depend on its source and the
severity. Stress among college students is a major problem, impacting their overall health. Students,
especially the freshmen s, who are expected to handle difficult academic workloads at a faster pace
while adapting to new social situations. A study done by Paul D. Welle and Helen M. Graf (2010). is
to determine the effectiveness of lifestyle habits and coping strategies on stress tolerance among
college students. Those who have a habit of exercising tend to be able to handle stress better. The test
is conducted using cluster sampling which is recommended for sampling intact groups as

How Coyotes Killed Deer Hunting
As a deer hunter, I never like to hear about whether another fellow hunter s herd is much smaller this
year. To understand what the author is conveying and whether the reader is engaged and informed of
the issue, we need to look at the points Honeycutt is making. Coyotes predatory behaviour on white
tail deer is the main reason why herd numbers are so small. Furthermore to understand if his message
is getting across we need to look at the importance of the points he is making. Not many hunters
realize that coyotes are having a significant impact on herd numbers. This is the point the author of the
article How Coyotes Killed Deer Hunting makes.
One point Honeycutt made was how did coyotes spread east of the Mississippi River? While there is
no definite way to determine how the coyotes got there in the first place, we can infer that habitat
destruction and human settlement has pushed the coyotes towards the east. Honeycutt doesn t state
this specifically, but he hints at it when he says between 1900 1950 they spread into the great lake
regions and on into northeastern states. Then during the late 1900 s and early 2000 s they spread from
southern plains eastward to the southeastern region of the country (Honeycutt, 2016). A second point

Honeycutt is because I have family in the southern states, and deer is a good source of food. So if the
coyote problem gets any worse it may be leaving many families with very little to eat. Many families
in the south rely on hunting, but not as a sport, they rely on it to

Liquor Never Brewed
In I taste a liquor never brewed Emily Dickinson expresses her passion and love for nature by talking
about her intoxication of alcohol. The extended metaphor and use of sound reflects the speaker s
attitude toward nature. With a decently constructed extended metaphor, Dickinson shows her love of
nature. The open line brings something interest to the reader: a liquor never brewed (l.1). How can a
liquor never have brewed be a liquor? This opening line hooks attention tightly by introducing a
seemingly contradiction. The special liquor initiates the metaphor of nature, which is strengthened and
clarified by inebriate of air (l.5) and Debauchee of Dew (l.6) in the second stanza. Dickinson connects
features of drunkenness and nature in those two lines: the narrator is not getting drunk with alcohol,
but with the admirable scenery in nature. The following line further explains the setting of the poem
endless summer day (l.7). Also, in the first stanza, the speaker comments that the liquor never ... Show

The second and fourth line in each stanza have end rhymes, such as door (l.10) and more (l.12), run
(l.14) and sun (l.16). The regular pattern of the end rhymes adds on order in the poem, and forms a
contrast with the first and third line in the stanza. The order of rhymes can represent the order of
nature; the disorder of other lines can represent the excitement after drinking alcohol and the speaker s
copious love for nature. Moreover, the alliteration in the poems adds singsong quality: Debauchee...
Dew (l.6), seraph... swing... snowy... saints (l.12 13). And through her word choice of informal words
such as Debauchee (1.6) and Tippler (l.15), we can feel a light and bright tone in the poem. This tone
connects to the real subject of the poem nature because summer days are delightful and

An Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner
In the essay On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, Eighner talks about materialism and wealth. He
explains his process of dumpster diving and the best places to go to dumpster dive. Eighner
incorporates tone, detail, irony, observation, and ethos throughout his essay. The tone of On Dumpster
Diving is straightforward. In the beginning of Eighner s essay, he goes straight into talking about
dumpster diving, and he does not beat around the bush. For example, in the beginning of his essay,
Eighner says, Long before I began Dumpster diving I was impressed with Dumpsters, enough so that I
wrote the Merriam Webster research service to discover what I could about the word Dumpster, (p 1).
Eighner describes dumpster diving as his profession. Eighner says, Eating safely from the Dumpsters
involves three principles: using the senses and common sense to evaluate the condition of the found
materials, knowing the Dumpsters of a given area and checking them regularly, and seeking always
the question Why was this discarded? (p 10). Throughout Eighner s essay, Eighner incorporates detail.
He explains how he hates to see food go to waste, which helps the reader understand that he is not a
materialistic person. Eighner says, I just hate to see food go to waste and so I eat much more than I
should (p 47). Eighner sees wealth as something many people take advantage of. For example, he
says, The student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the student decides not to take
the chance, (p 26). When Eighner says this statement, he means that students will waste perfectly good
items, because it is not their money they are wasting. Students do not value money, and they do not
see throwing away good items a bad thing. Eighner also incorporates irony throughout his essay. He
says, Between us are the rat race millions who have confounded their selves with the objects they
grasp and who nightly scavenge the cable channels looking for they know not what. I am sorry for
them (p 79 80). Eighner s statement is ironic because he says he feels sorry for materialistic and
wealthy people when typically they are sorry for him. Eighner is in a healthy state of mind and he
feels sorry for the people who always feel

Great Depression 2008 Essay
History has shown us again, and again that when power is left unchecked it becomes corrupt and out
of control, that is the iron law of oligarchy. In the US we saw this happen recently in the 2008
economic meltdown. The banks and corporations should never have been aloud to become to big to
fail, and once they did grow to a point when they were there should have been more government
oversight to make sure things did not get out of hand. After the great depression laws were put in place
to try to prevent something like that from ever happening again, but we undid those restrictions and
ended up in a place eerily similar to somewhere we had been before. In this paper I will cover a brief
history of the great depression, and show how the situation in 2008 was all too similar. I will also
discuss and analyze the factors that brought us to the tipping point in our most recent economic scare.
And finally I will explain why the actions taken by the FED were necessary and kept us from an even

But depressions are different, they also come around every now and again but when they come they
have the capability of toppling giants. If a huge company with thousands of employees and ties to
other large companies goes down it can easily destroy the whole system and ruin the American
economy along with the economies of many other nations. It is clear that these companies failing can
cause immense damage to an economy but it is not clear what causes these companies to fail in the
first place. Back in the depression it was fear and oversight that caused the banks to fail and in 2008 it
was the same lack of oversight that allowed things to get so out of hand that the economy was on the
brink of total collapse. Luckily we learned from our mistakes in the past and the right steps were taken
to keep the economy on its

Comparing Cinderella And Donkeyskin
The protagonists in both stories of Cinderella and Donkeyskin are perhaps a vivid example of a
character who is lost. In both stories, the girls are bound by one reason or another, whether it consist
of her father, or two sisters and a godmother who have no care for her fate. Both stories portray her as
helpless and equally unwilling to rebel against other characters, perhaps out of fear or her personality
alone. Instead, she essentially beats them out in a more passive yet effective way. However throughout
both these stories, it is clear that she does not have the wealth or luxury of doing this alone, hence
where other characters take on that role.
These characters are possibly abstract, or perhaps visions/voices from the thoughts of another
character, such as Cinderella when the prince carries away the step sisters one by one, but the birds
offer a piece of advice, telling the prince of a poem that explains that he has chosen the wrong girl.
When reading this line, that repeats itself as he confuses the other step sister for Cinderella, I
wondered if these were just images or lines within his head instead of real birds talking as the fairytale
world may suggest. This way of thinking may suggest that the prince knows exactly of ... Show more

majestic woman does not do this without help. The author describes animals and pieces of nature that

Comparison of how Orwell in 1984 and Ishiguro in Never Let...
Comparison of how Orwell in 1984 and Ishiguro in Never Let Me Go use failure and futility in human
relationships as a theme in their dystopian novels
As humans, we judge ourselves by how others perceive us and seek to conform to a universally
accepted code of ethics and laws. It is this inherent value that we possess, a conscience that make us
different from animals and it is also what is missing to a large extent in Orwell s 1984 and Ishiguro s
Never Let Me Go . The futility of relationships in these works is part of what makes the worlds in
which they are based seem so bereft of hope and consequently, dystopia in nature.
In Orwell s vision of humanity s future, the only truly acceptable thing to love is Big Brother. The
Party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional structure of society in Never Let Me Go is altered, as there is clearly a subsection of
humanity that the donors inhabit which is not apparent in our own lives. However, Ishiguro s world is
not so different from our own, Hailsham seems like it could easily be a twentieth century boarding
school with the result that the events have a more profound effect on the reader. Orwell uses a slightly
different technique as the structure of human life is reduced in 1984 rather than altered. It is carried
out up to the point where, No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend . Instead they turn to the only
thing in their life that seems concrete, Big Brother. The Spies are the ultimate example of this because
the Party has managed to sever the paternal bond, which should be stronger than almost anything else.
The extent to which this is achieved is shown by Parson declaring he is, proud of his daughter for
denouncing him as it proves that he, brought her up in the right spirit. It is as though the greatest
achievement for a parent has become to create a tool for the party. Winston sums this up by saying,
The terrible thing the Party has done was to persuade you that mere impulses, mere feelings, were of
no account, while at the same time robbing you of all power over the material world. To protect and
nurture your offspring is a natural instinct, but the Party has removed this and in doing so has reduced
humanity. It is this that

The Virtual Disappearance Of Miriam
The Virtual Disappearance of Miriam is a piece of hypertext fiction, composed of multiple blocks of
text known as lexia. The Virtual Disappearance of Miriam is a story driven narrative whose primary
focus is the main protagonist s attempts to, and consequent failures at, controlling of the digital world

reader chooses is largely dependent upon top down interaction. Martyn Bedford uses axial textual

The Impact Of Political Machine On The City

U.S. Urban History
Essay: Urban America
Discuss the political machine and its operations in the city, 1865 1939 The political machine is very
powerful in the city and because of how powerful it is that urban United States was able to develop so
much and increase in power in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. A political machine is system of
political organization based on patronage, the spoils system, and political ties. Sometimes political
machines have a boss and sometimes they may not have a boss, and always have a corps of workers
who depend on the patronage given by government contracts and jobs. Machine politics has existed in
many United States cities for a long time now, but are still in effect in some areas. The rapid growth of
American cities in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s created huge problems for the government that ran
the cities as in most cases in was very poorly structured and could not really give the people what they
needed. It is because of the inability of city government to provide these things to the people that there
was a rise in political machines. These political machines gained support from the population by
providing houses for people who needed them and by also offering people jobs that they desperately
needed. This gave the political machines a lot of power and support from there loyal followers. Voters
are often rewarded with patronage jobs. However, patronage can result in poorer service to the

Kinetics of the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide Lab Essay
Kinetics of the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide Lab
Introduction: In this week s lab experiment, the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide forming
oxygen gas will be observed and studied. Since the rate of a chemical reaction is dependent on two
things; the concentrations of the reactants and the temperature at which the process is performed, the
rate can be measured at which a reactant disappears or at which a product appears. When measuring
the rate, the rate law will be applied. The objective of this lab is to demonstrate how the rate changes
with varying initial concentrations of hydrogen peroxide by measuring the rate at which oxygen is
evolved.

begin after 2 ml of oxygen has been produced and must be recorded at 2 ml intervals until 14 ml of

The next step in this lab is to rinse the Erlenmeyer flask with distilled water down the drain and then
repeat the experiment, this time adding 10 ml of 0.10M KI and 10 ml of distilled water to the flask
instead. The flask should again be swirling to allow the solution to succumb to the same temperature
as the water bath and once it has reached the same temperature, 10 ml of 3% H2O2 must then be
added and a stopper must be immediately placed on the flask and recording should then begin for
experiment two. After recording the times, the Erlenmeyer flask must then be rinsed again with
distilled water down the drain. After rinsing the flask, the last part of the lab can now be performed.
Experiment three is performed the same way, but instead, 20 ml of 0.10 ml M KI and 5 ml of distilled
water will be added and after the swirling of the flask, 5 ml of 3% H2O2 will be added. After the times
have been recorded, data collection should now be complete.

Today s Violence and Its Many Causes
Violence in today s society is at an all time high. There are many causes for the increase in violence in
our society. Violence is defined by (1) criminal law, the illegal use of unjustified force, or the
intimidating effect created by the threat of this (2) the use of physical force to injure somebody or
damage something (Encarta Dictionary: English North American Version). Rape, homicide, assault
and burglary with a weapon are all forms of malicious legal violence that plague our communities in

The Guardian newspaper, Sky News channel and Aljazeera.com are three distinct platforms I selected

media platforms were expected, in such a case of Catalonia, to report this story in depth. My analysis
of the coverage will follow the chronological order of these platforms, which is the same historical

a picture of a pro Spain rally in Barcelona and quoted from Spanish leaders. Bias, if it was so, can be
also seen in attributing ordinary Catalan people, which were divided over independence. Even when
the correspondents quoted what a pro Spain thinks in page 4 (2nd October), it was a woman that
changed her position to support the independence because she was pulled out by the police. Sky News
, which is described as a pro conservative according to the media blog (2010), treated the event quite
differently. For instance, the report in Sky News at 10 (2nd October) included a sound bite of a pro
Spain Catalan to balance the news story. This may reflect impartiality in this outlet coverage, but it is
not easy to say so. In this report and others, the correspondents insisted on the division of Catalans,
which The Guardian ignored in the background. The report reminded the viewers that although the
Catalan authorities declared that 90% of voters supported the independence, only 40% voted in that
referendum. This statement of an interesting fact can communicate the story clearly to the audience.
The focus of reports was on protests and police violence; however, the Correspondent s report from
Barcelona in Sky News at 11 (3rd October) included a sound bite of the Spanish king speech.

Nuclear Power Advantages And Disadvantages
A golf ball sized lump of uranium would supply the lifetime s energy needs of a typical person,
equivalent to 56 tanker trucks of natural gas. or 800 elephant sized bags of coal (Connor). Nuclear
energy has been a matter of hot debate ever since the first few reactors were launched. Scientists and
critics have argued about the benefits and drawbacks of this form of energy. Many believe in a
marvelous future with the contribution of a new type of energy while the others disagree because they
think nuclear power contain risks and dangers. This essay will list both aspects of this power and
prove that nuclear power is the next stepping stone in technological advancements and a cleaner
future.
There are two main drawbacks of utilizing nuclear power. First major disadvantage of nuclear power
is nuclear weapons. But, what is a nuclear weapon? According to Encyclopædia Britannica, it is
devices designed to release energy in an explosive manner as a result of nuclear fission, nuclear

Analysis Of Unam Sanctam By Pope Boniface Viii
Unam Sanctam This work is authored by Pope Boniface VIII from a rough timespan of 1294 1303.
Boniface s affirmation that there is only one holy and catholic and apostolic Church serves as the main
theme of this piece because it is directed toward the king of France. If one is to be called Christian and
truly be one of Christ s flock, one must subject oneself to the Roman pope because he is the legitimate
pope, being one of Peter s successors. Furthermore, there is no salvation outside of this Church. Pastor
Aeternus Pope Leo X writes this piece in order to reinforce what Pope Boniface VIII says in Unam

blessings of the universal Church, and the plenary remission of sins for those who are currently in

Essay about Narrative- Water Slide Experience
Narrative Water Slide Experience
I was so excited. I could hardly breathe through the hour drive it took to get there. I was squished
between my two ten year old best friends in the back seat of a white Saturn, but I didn t care. I was
practicing over and over in my head what I was going to say to all the smart alecky adults who would
tell me I was too young to ride the water slides. I was simply going to reply, Actually I m ten, going on
eleven.
On the right of me sat the girl I met in preschool, the swimmer who was named after a state like me:
Tennessee. She was the observant artist. She sat there holding a deck of cards, trying to find all the
queens. I could tell she was nervous. Her hands were sweating. The cards were damp ... Show more

We are all exact triposites, if there s any such thing.
I was so nervous and excited at the same time that I practically leaped out of the car with my Gap
backpack and my Wal Mart towel flying behind me. I could hear the screaming and crying of children.
After we went through the long line to pay and put on a whole tube of sunscreen, we were ready to
have some real fun. We wandered around trying to find the perfect ride.
Tennessee and I had decided on the water gym when Anna suddenly stopped short. She pointed way
up in the air. Our eyes slowly followed her finger. Through our ten year old eyes we saw what looked
like the scariest ride in the entire world. It was a 50 foot tall, sky blue slide that went straight down
into a giant pool of deep dark water.
Anna looked around and smiled. Her short brown hair jumped and fell each time she took a long
stride. Her brown eyes twinkled as she walked to the slide. She seemed so proud about being brave
and daring to walk up to The Death Slide. Tennessee and I felt embarrassed that a girl six months
younger than we were was going to ride it while we were going to play on the water gym. But
Tennessee and I had a plan to cover up our embarrassment. We were going to act like we were going
to ride The Death Slide, and then, at the last minute, say we forgot something and wait at the bottom
for Anna.
As we stood in line, slowly approaching the 50 foot ladder I tried to gather up my strength and

Retirement Is An Important Life Transition
Retirement is recognised as being an important life transition (Szinovacz, 1980), associated with a
number of adjustments including social roles, income and daily routine adaption s (Pinquart Schindler,
2007). Although there is no single definition of what retirement is within existing literature (Denton
Spencer, 2009), it can arguably be best understood as an subjective journey involving a psychosocial
transition rather than a single event of exiting work or an objective life transition (Matour Prout, 2007,
Kim Moen, 2002). Future retirees consider retirement to be a huge decision where they envisage what
their daily life would be after exiting the work force, as well as the physical and emotional effort to
make the transition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, due to the limited qualitative research, quantitative research has been supplemented to
provide an understanding of the retirement transition. Even though quantitative literature will be
reviewed, a critical stance is taken due to the different assumptions and philosophical underpinnings
which are highlighted throughout.
Firstly, retiree s can experience some losses during the retirement transition. It can be suggested that
work is more than just bringing home an income (Kleiber Linde, 2014). For example, many
individuals significantly identify with a work role which may have implications when adjusting to
retirement life. Osborne (2012) suggests during the retirement transition, individuals can experience
partial identity disruption. Identity refers to cognitive and effective meanings that an individual
attributes to one s self in a role (Reitzes Mutran, 2006, p. 336). One explanation of this disruption is
provided by role theory (George, 1993) which suggests individuals former roles within employment
may form an integral part of their identity (Price, 2003). Therefore, it is suggested that psychological
distress can occur due to the loss in retiree s previous work role which may disrupt their identity (Kim
Moen, 2002). However,

An Underground Illegal Business
Running
I have been through alot of bad things in my life but nothing is the same as waking up at 8 in the
morning to the foul taste of smoke in your mouth. It was like the smell of cigarette smoke except as a
taste. My eyes started to water but right as I dried my eyes off I saw them taking her.
My mother was the women I saw them taking her and I knew who they were too. Not literally the men
under the mask but the people they were working for. They were working for an underground illegal
business. They were called the A.W.E.G. (Advanced Warfare Elimination Group) I knew them as the
people I was running from. Very few even knew about their existence. Now I had to get out of the
house. As I got out of the front I saw a van drive away, I knew they had my mother in there. I turned
around and the house exploded. I felt so many things at once if you ve ever seen a rag doll get thrown
around I looked more than likely exactly like that. Once I hit the ground all the pain I didn t feel
kicked in. The force of the explosion threw me into the ground at a high speed. Once I hit the ground
it felt like jumping out of a 5 story building and splating on concrete. I looked at my arms and they
had some first degree burns It felt like a sunburn on steroids. I also couldn t feel my leg until I looked
at it. A piece of rebar went all the way through my thigh. There was nothing I had ever felt to describe
it. Once I pulled it out I started walking to an old friend s house. After limping around

7. How active are you on cyclone? In V3 I was on for at least 3 to 4 hours a day helping the
community as player. The only reason I became less inactive was because the server I loved (prisons)
started to become less active which drove me away from the server. However as the server is resetting
and I personally know that Dwiz has out 100% effort towards V4 I will be a lot more active, helping

Essay on Israel s Surrender of the Gaza Strip Did Not...
In 2005, the Israeli government decided to give up the Gaza Strip, including Gush Katif, in an effort to
bring peace to the middle east. They did not take into consideration much of the consequences of their
actions. The attempt to create peace by giving Gush Katif to the Palestinians not only did not have that
effect, but the exact opposite effect, creating more violence between the Israelis and the Palestinians,
as well as a lack of trust between the government and some of the Israeli people. Gush Katif is a
village in the Middle East that is a part of the Gaza Strip. In 2005, it was given to the Palestinians by

The first main attack was by the Gaza palestinians in December of 1987. The residents of Gush Katif

7:30am, a bomb blew up a school bus carrying children to school. Two children were killed and nine
were critically injured. Three siblings had to get amputations. There were also constant attacks to
vehicles on Kissufim road, most of which were suicide bombings on children s busses. Lots of people
got hurt. Despite all the terrorism, the residents of Gush Katif were not afraid of living there. They
claimed that this land was given to them in the Torah and that all of Israel had their problems so they
would not feel safer in the center of Tel Aviv. In 2004, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced The
Disengagement Plan. This plan stated that the residents of Gush Katif and other villages throughout

Essay on Shakespeare as a Real Man in Shakespeare in Love
Shakespeare as a Real Man in Shakespeare in Love Shakespeare has been presented in myriad
versions, from the traditional to the almost unrecognizable. Directors and actors have adapted him as
long as his plays have been performed. Some feel that without Shakespeare´s original poetry,
audiences are robbed of the opportunity to experience the cleverness, poetry, and majesty of the
language Shakespeare´s genius. Others feel that modern adaptations don´t challenge viewers and offer
weaker plots and less complex characters. Shakespeare in Love combines in a way both. The film
applauds the brilliance of Shakespearean writing through the lines directly taken from Shakespeare,

The Anti Stratfordians take up the other side of the debate: they insist that a man of such humble
circumstances could never have written the works within the Shakespearean canon. In fact, they posit
that Shakespeare, the actor, agreed to publish the work under his own name for a fee, and did so to
protect the identity of the true author. The Anti Stratfordians believe that Shakespeare was simply a
paid player (The Shakespeare Question). The film effectively undermines this Anti Stratfordian
argument by explaining how Shakespeare could have afforded to become a sharer in Richard Burbage
´s The Lord Chamberlain´s Men. Throughout Shakespeare in Love, Will tries to raise the capital
needed to buy his way into the company. In fact, when Lord Wessex makes a bet with Queen
Elizabeth I about whether or not a play can show the real truth and beauty of love, the prize wagered is
fifty pounds the exact amount Will needs to achieve his goal. Of course, by the end of the film,
Shakespeare´s Romeo and Juliet has proven both the bittersweet truth and unwavering romance of true
love, and Queen Elizabeth determines that Will´s play has won the bet. Nevertheless, whatever the
side we take (either the purist or the Anti Stratfordian), few facts do exist about the life of William

Immigration Policy On Immigration
The famous singer songwriter, Conor Oberst, told huffington post, How we treat the undocumented

American promise of equality and opportunity for all. According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement, 240,255 people were deported in the year 2016. However, this year the number of arrest
have rose up to 38 percent (Gomez). The number of people being deported have been increasing every

United States Immigration System should change their policies on deportation because it violates the
constitutional rights and exposes the inequality towards immigrants. Current The United States
Immigration System (USIC) policy is inhumane to the country and its legal system. There have been
many incidents of brutal deportation where person is being hurt or experienced inhumanity. As stated
by Mallory Shelbourne in the article published in The Hill, The administrative complaint includes

officials she was pregnant and bleeding. This exemplified the cruelty of officials in the process.

Active Tips For Active Tags
Active tags
Active tags require the most power because they can initiate communication to other tags or a reader
device. They have a greater range of operation and have been applied to asset control and tracking
livestock because of the greater range active tags allow (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Therefore, active tags
require more maintenance, but they can broaden the scope in how RFID systems can be used. Some
active tags can be equipped with an acceleration sensor that can determine when the tag begins
accelerating and then transmit a signal to the reader. One example that this can be useful for is in
shipping container transportation. Shipping containers can be lost at sea after falling off a ship and
traditional RF technology may not be able to detect it in time. However, active tag RFID systems with
an acceleration sensor can notify the system when the container begins falling, making it possible to
recover (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Figure 3, below, shows the different characteristics of active and passive
tags.
Figure 3: Characteristics of active and passive tags (Ahsan, 2010, p. 3).
The memory chip, which is embedded in a silicon chip, can be adjusted or not adjusted based on its

Private sectors should accommodate those of the LGBTQ community to the best of their ability.
Businesses owners should not be allowed to turn down a resume just because of the sexual orientation

LGBTQ citizen is comparable to discriminating against a citizen of a different race; it is unacceptable
in the United States. The SOGI laws are not perfect but they are a start to what the country needs to
achieve in order for everyone to truly be equal. SOGI laws would prohibit schools, charities, and
businesses form using their person views to deny people based off of their sexual orientation, which in

Mind Brain By John Searle Summary
In his essay, Minds, Brains, and Computers, John Searle attempts to prove that Strong AI does not
exist. He still believes that there is some merit to weak AI, as a means for understanding how certain
elements of the brain function, but using computers as a way of not only mimicking the brain but
actually being a mind. The most concrete example that Searle used in support of his claim was that
computers cannot understand, and he demonstrated this through the Chinese Room experiment. In the
Chinese Room Experiment, a person can functionally answer questions in a language that they do not
understand, as long as they are given the tools to match certain words to words that they understand in
their native language. In this experiment the subject

Eusebius Pamphilus Life Of The Blessed Emperor
The Life of the Blessed Emperor Constantine Part One is one in a set of four in depth historical books
about the life of Constantine, and is authored by Eusebius Pamphilus (also known as Eusebius of
Caesarea). Eusebius structured this book to follow the history of Constantine from the time of his birth
until the time of Licinius (Maxamin II Daia) decline into ill health. Eusebius of Caesarea, born in 260
A.D. and died in 340 A.D, is referred to as the father of church history due to his penchant recording
of historical church events. Moreover, Eusebius was an educated man, which allowed him the skill to
record the history of the church as told to him, often times by witnesses themselves. In addition,
Eusebius was a devout Christian. During the year 313, Eusebius Pamphili was named bishop of
Caesarea. It s no surprise why Eusebius writes about Flavius Valerias Constantinus (Constantine) with

Fate In Ancient Greece And The Iliad
Fate greatly affects a person s day to day life, regardless of where, and when a person lived. Whether
fate was decided and set in stone, or if considered more fluid and changing, fate influences a society.
Even today, people will base choices on fate and leave decisions up to fate, whether to cease anxieties
over a big life change, or deciding that it was faith that you found twenty dollars on the sidewalk and
you deserve to splurge on ice cream. A society interacts with the divine through fate. Because religion
in every culture is different, fate as a concept differs from culture to culture, but every culture has a
good and a bad ending. Without the outcome of a good or bad fate, there would be no need for
religion. Because of the possibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are differences in the interpretation of cultural aspects in Greek and Roman literature. Greece
and Rome both place heavy significance on fate, although, what defines fate is seemingly different in
the Golden Ass when compared to the Iliad. In the Iliad, the characters appear to understand their
predetermined fate as soldiers, then to the left our ready arms apply, / And live with glory, or with
glory die (Homer 245), even though, individually, characters may ignore prophecies which ultimately
predict their fate. In the Iliad, whether because of divine intervention or destiny, the characters have
little impact on their own fate. In the Golden Ass, fate is never outright predetermined, and the
characters individual actions matter. Although it may be alluded to, in stories like Lucius s, it is
unknown how the story will end, until it has ended. In the Iliad, because of the prophecy, the reader
knows Achilles will win the war for the Greeks, and according to Zeus s golden scale, Hector is
doomed to die and cannot be saved. In the Iliad, the fate of Achilles is somewhat predestined to be a
war hero. This prediction is lived out by Achilles, as he returns to the war and ultimately defeats the
Trojans for Greece, and is declared a hero. Fate is seen as concrete, and unchanging. This is seen in
most Greek literature, but in the Iliad, the entirety of the book is based on

Civil Disobedience Necessary
Anyone in a free society where the laws are unjust has an obligation to break the law. Henry David
Thoreau
Thoreau wholeheartedly agreed with the idea of questioning a law that many find unjust, and many
agree with him. Citizens that engage in Civil Disobedience are not overextending any form of right,
but are in fact using the ones given to them by their constitution. Also, by engaging in civil
disobedience, citizens are criticizing their government, something that was encouraged in the Greek
and Roman republics which the United States bases the government upon.
Civil Disobedience is remarkably effective without the violence that many had thought necessary.
Several famous examples include the Salt March of Mahatma Gandhi, the Civil Rights movement of
Martin Luther King Jr., and even the sit ins of the factory workers during the industrial revolution.
Although, many still argue that civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those politicians and inhabitants of the first thirteen colonies that had fought the war against Britain,
thought it important, based on their own experiences, that their citizens be able to question their

How To Defeat Germany In The Battle Of Britain
Britain was able to defeat Germany in the Battle of Britain due to British resilience and poor

by August, the Luftwaffe had gathered 2669 operational aircraft, which consisted of 1015 bombers,
346 dive bombers, 933 fighters, and 375 heavy fighters (Churchill 323). The German planes were
faster, but British planes were more manoeuvrable which gave the British an advantage during aerial

August 15 set forth the largest air battle of the war to this point, eight hundred planes were sent to pin
down the Royal Air Force airfields in the south where it was thought the British were gathered. The
attack had been foreseen and the Royal Air Force had withdrawn from the south to go and defend the
north, to their surprise the British encountered the incoming assailants. The Germans lost thirty planes,
mostly consisting of heavy bombers as opposed to a British loss of only two injured pilots (Churchill
324). Additionally, German intelligence underestimated the strength of the British. For the most part
up until late August the British were able to repel German offensives which demoralized German
pilots as the British showed no signs of giving up. Although, the British were able resist German
attacks, they re casualties were quickly mounting

Impressionism vs Post
Impressionism vs Post Impressionism
Modern culture is believed to be the brainchild of two versions of the Protestant worldview: the
northern French positivism and irrationalism. If the first is trying to discern the signs of the afterlife in
the image of reality (which is actually a reflection of the culture established meanings), the second
doubts of the possibility to view anything except for one s own feelings. Impressionists were trying to
recreate their sensory impressions with scientific precision. Analytical approach to his own artistic
activities allowed them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Post Impressionism revealed most crisis traits of the Western culture of that period, painful and
controversial artists searches for stable ideological and moral values. The period of post
impressionism is characterized by typical active mutual individual areas and individual creative
systems. And though a number of post impressionism areas (Neo Impressionism and partially Nabi ,
which is the French version of modernity ) does not come out of the time frame boundaries, creativity
of its leading masters (primarily of Post Impressionists Cezanne, V. van Gogh, Gauguin, A. de
Toulouse Lautrec) with its problematic initiates multiple trends in the fine art of the 20th century. Post
Impressionism (from French postimpressionism, earlier from Latin Post meaning after ) is the term
adopted in art to denote main line of development in French art starting from the second half of 1880s
till the beginning of the 20th. The start point of Post Impressionism is considered to be the beginning
of 1886, when the last Impressionist exhibition was held and the Manifesto of symbolism by the poet
Jean Moréas was issued (Galenson Weinberg, 2001).

Essay About Drinking In Alaska
Drilling in Alaska Instead of the United States drilling for oil in Alaska, we should focus more on
ways to reduce oil consumption, such as researching renewable energy sources. Let s face it the air as
we know it isn t getting any cleaner. We have a lot of pollution in the air; unfortunately oil is an
enormous part of the everyday lives of people living in the United States. Not only does it affect us
here in the United States, but did you ever think about the harm we are making in Alaska? We have
plenty of renewable resources where we can limit the amount of oil. How much are we consuming?
We consume a lot of oil for gas which includes vehicles, airplanes, and etc. There is a lot of
consumption in just in an hour in fact the United States consumes almost 20million barrels of oil per
day, and at a rate of 1.5 million barrels per day from Alaska, 7.5 percent of American oil consumption
could be met for over 20 years. ( Oil Drilling in Alaska 1) How is the oil consumption of the United
States affecting Alaska? While we are benefiting from the oil, what is happening in Alaska? Many
people fail to realize or ignore that we are affecting animals, people and nature with all that pollution
we are causing to Alaska. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Revolution of the Distressed Essay
A Revolution of the Distressed
The world today is faced with many obstacles concerning all the peoples of the world. The issues
range from globalization to the state of the environment with every political, economic, and human
interest lying in between. It is these human interests that will be brought to light by examining the
revolutions of the Incan indigenous beginning in the early part of the twentieth century. Running
parallel to their North American neighbors, the native peoples of Peru have lived in seriously
impecunious conditions as the result of ethno racial discrimination handed them by their colonial
occupiers; Spanish speakers. These revolutions, namely Shining Path, would eventually define the gap
between the rich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since the time of Spanish colonial rule, Incans were being treated completely unfairly. And in the
late 18th century, Peru began to see the first of its native revolutions under Jose Gabriel Tupac Amaru
II in 1780. These uprisings were headed by Indian nobility who showed antipathy towards the Spanish
administration as a result of being forced to subject their own people to taxes, unfair market prices,
and slave labor. The Incans throughout the time of Spanish colonial rule had hopes for the renewal of
their age old empire. However despite at least 100 revolts against colonialism the empire was never
revived. (Strong 41)
It was not until the 1920 s that the Incan rebellion would make any significant progression excluding
the pride they may have taken in brutal revenge and retaliation murders and massacres against
Spaniards. In this decade Peru witnesses the first shift from predominantly unorganized revolution to
serious political development. Although the movement known as Alianza Popular Revolucionaria
Americana (APRA) was crushed under the Leguia regime, the faction was the first political party to
legally call for reform in regard to the condition of the highland populations or peasantry. Strong
points out that its leader, Victor Haya de la Torre, had a poem

Complementarity In Wesley s Song, Wouldn T Change A Thing
Complementarity is defined as the popularly supposed tendency, in a relationship between two people,
for each to complete what is missing in the other. This explains the phenomenon of opposites attract;
people tend to be attracted to those that are different in personality than them because their differences
are complementary. The song, Wouldn t Change A Thing, by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas, represents
the idea of opposites being attracted to each other, but yet, they are complementary. The chorus states,
Like fire and rain, you can drive me insane, but I can t stay mad at you for anything. We re Venus and
Mars. We re like different stars, but you re the harmony to every song I sing and I wouldn t change a
thing. The rest of the song explains that although they are two completely different people and fight
consistently, they still need each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that in order to get the attention of others that we like, we will drop compliments here and
there. This is not only flatter them, but to also get that specific person to like us back in some way,
whether we just want them to like us as a friend or more than friends. Trevor Wesley s song, Chivalry
Is Dead, describes that act of a man being a gentleman towards a woman. So I must open doors and
make you feel like the lady you are. My momma raised me to be classy, not flashy. I m happy to
please you, though I can tell that s not what you re used to and they say chivalry is dead, says Wesley.
The message that the song is trying to get across is that today, many women view acts of kindness as
foreign and strange because unfortunately, it is common for women to be disrespected more than ever;
this explains the idea that chivalry is dead. However, Wesley says that chivalry still exists; women
should be treated with respect and although he acts like a gentleman, that does not mean he will take
advantage of

Advantages Of Twinning In Healthcare
Twinning is a concept that compares two similar groups, organizations, or people (Twinning, n.d.). In
the healthcare field, twinning often occurs between a rich country and a poor country that struggles
with providing healthcare to its citizens (MacDonagh, Jiddawi, Parry, 2002). Advantages of the
twinning program are regular contact and collaboration between the two countries as well as the
setting of goals with monitoring and adjustments being made as necessary (MacDonagh, et al., 2002).
Twinning programs among businesses and organizations follow the same goal setting and monitoring
as it does in the healthcare industry. With the twinning program established by ArcelorMittal, the
struggling Burns Harbor Mill was paired with a stronger

Rules In The Handmaids Tale
Bruno Bettelheim once said, Punishment may make us obey the orders we are given, but at best it will
only teach an obedience to authority, not a self control which enhances our self respect. More often
than not, those surrounded by rules feel pressured to adhere to them due to the fear of repercussions.
Even so, it is not guaranteed people will comply. Sometimes, being bound by rules can only make one
feel rebellious. This proves to be true in Margaret Atwood s speculative fiction novel, The Handmaid s
Tale. Through characterization, flashbacks, and point of view, Atwood demonstrates how strict rules
lead to the temptation for defiance, despite the possible consequences. In the novel, the majority of the
characters seem to acknowledge the strict laws of Gilead, while still not fully obeying them. Though
breaking these laws leads to cruel ramifications (e.g. hanging, exile, etc.), it does not stop members of
the society from breaking these said rules. In chapter 23, Offered goes to see the Commander in his
room alone one night. My presence here is illegal. It is forbidden for us to be alone with the
Commanders (Atwood, 136). Offered is aware of the fact that this request is unlawful, yet she still
ponders on it. Just as well, the Commander calls her to his room which shows that even sitting in a
position as high as his, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is exhibited by the fact that most of the characters disobey the laws of Gilead one way or another.
The flashbacks in the novel show that strict laws are a leading cause of defiance. The narrator s point
of view shows her gradual disregard for the law that progresses over the course of the book. While
many may think that forming strict laws is a way to get people to adhere and act accordingly, Atwood
proves otherwise in the situations depicted in The Handmaid s

The Principals Of Operant Conditioning
The principals of operant conditioning, teaches how having certain coping techniques can reward
certain undesirable behaviors. Conditioning human behavior has been studied for many years,
Psychologists Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner, have dedicated the majority of their lives to the
study. Thorndike s theory Law of effect. Thorndike suggests that certain stimuli and response become
connected or dissociated from each other. His experiment worked by placing a cat in a box, then
observing its behavior as it tried to escape and obtain the food on the other side. He studied several
cats and plotted the time it took for them to escape from the puzzle box. The challenge to get out of
the box remained the same, but the amount of time to get out of the box decreased, and while the
animal may have not realized what it was doing, but knew what he had to do to receive the food. He
concluded that animals learn from reward and punishment or trial and error. The theory of B.F.
Skinner is based upon the idea that learning is about change in behavior. Operant conditioning is
learning by consequence. To put it simply, an action which he rewarded is likely to be repeated along
with an action that is punished is less likely to be repeated. B.F. Skinner introduced a new term into
the law of effect known as reinforcement. Behavior that is reinforced tends to be repeated while
behavior which is no reinforced tends to disappear. conducted an experiment where he placed a rat

The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
Monster Versus Heroes Essay In the book, The Devil s Arithmetic, by Jane Yolen, the characters Rivka
and Chaya make some very interesting points. These two points contradict as they are total opposites
and they suggest two different things. We are all monsters, Chaya said, because we are letting it
happen. However, Rivka also says, We are all heroes here. These two points have two many different
perspectives on what people are like in the concentration camps. Both statements have their points, but
the mostly correct one goes to Rivka. One of the reasons for why Rivka is mostly correct is because
all of the prisoners are making the best of what they have and they are trying to help the kids feel
better, even with the situation of being locked into a concentration camp. I say this because it states on
page 135, The afternoon Gitl organized a rope and the children played jumping games after dinner.
This shows how Gitl had to go through the risk of stealing a rope just so the kids could have fun and
feel better about the situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I say this because it states on page 159, She lived, had lived, would live in the future she, or someone
with whom she shared memories. But Rivka had only now. Without thinking through the why of it,
Hannah snatched the kerchief off Rivka s head. Run! She whispered...Run for you life, Rivka. Run for
your future. Run. Run. Run. And remember. In this part of the story, Chaya performs a selfless act to
save Rivka and sacrifices herself in order to save one more life. This scene definitely shows how
people in the concentration camps help save each other. Although this scene only shows Chaya doing
a selfless act, the book only gives us a glimpse of how the Jews in the concentration camps take care
of each other. This is my final reason for why I think Rivka is mostly

The Pedestrian By Ray Bradbury Analysis
Society provides a constant pressure to be a certain cookie cutter definition that only includes a single
shape in the whole box. Stepping out of the desired image is seen as wrong as the balance and
harmony society tries to maintain is unstable. In The Pedestrian written by Ray Bradbury emphasizes
the idea of a collective group pushing a single individual into conforming to their expectations as the
main character Leonard Mead demonstrates this struggle. Leonard Mead tries to conform to society
through the symbolic change of shoes. Moreover, by not fulfilling society s complete regulations
Leonard is soon isolated and pushed away from the community which limited Leonards mental self as
he was alway alone. The Pedestrian reflects on the significant principle to pursue your goals and
desires as it influences on an individual s eccentricity that makes people diverse even if it does not
follow society s regulations. Furthermore, Mr. Leonard Mead struggles with being different and his
personal desires are viewed as abnormal since society fears the unknown consequently abusing the
individual for being different. In addition, methods that further enhances the barrier Ray Bradbury set
between Leonard Mead versus the rest of society is the motif of light versus dark and Ray Bradbury s
short story illustrates conflicts between pursuing a personal desire and choosing to conform influences
a person s individuality as a result of society s regulations.

How The Sports Played In The 16th Century Today I am going to be writing about sports that were played in the 16th century and also the early 17th century .Shockingly these sports are still around today and are still being played all over the world. Most of these sports that were enjoyed and loved by people prior to now are basically the same. Sports will always be enjoyed and are a good form of enter tainment to people all around the globe. By the 16th Century Calcia Fiorentino is an early form of football that orginated in Italy. The sport was played in the Piazza Santa Croc Which was there football stadium and there where hundreds of people could watch. Mostly Calcia was reserved for the rich and it would be played every night from Janurary 6 March 24. The game was played on a field of sand quite diffrent from today s matches and was played for 50 mintues. Goals were scored by throwing the football over the netting on the oppenents side of the field and the winning teams were the team who had the most goals scored. There was 1 main refferee and 1 field master watching the game. Both Teams were very competitive and the people enjoyed it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Moving Near Volcanic Areas Have you ever thought about possible questions when moving near volcanic areas? If I am thinking of moving to a city near a volcano, I would consider what I could do if the volcano erupts, how can I protect myself, what safety measures should I consider, I would inform myself of everything necessary to avoid diseases. It is very important to be informed of how we can react in case a volcano is active, imagine that I am in a city where there is an active volcano about to erupt and what possible measures I should take. What problems could develop because of volcanic ash? These are some problems that can develop because of volcanic ash: Respiratory problems, because people inhale the particles detached from the ashes. Therefore, individuals who are in good health will have discomfort in the chest, followed by dry cough, sore throat, breathing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You should always keep in mind that an area of volcanoes is not always predictable when they are going to erupt. However, you must have an evacuation route, so you do not waste time searching for one. Try to follow the suggestions recommended by the authorities in charge. When evacuating, you should not forget to protect your eyes with glasses or a damp towel around your face, wear a long sleeved shirt to avoid skin irritations or burns, wear pants and use a mouth mask that will prevent you from inhaling dust. In conclusion, I think you should always consider what to do in cases where the volcano can erupt, be informed about what to do and where to go in case it happens. I planted the idea that it can be done in a situation where the volcano erupts more than anything to know what to do. But you should always ask when was the last time it erupted, it is advisable to live near the areas of the volcanoes, how the changes in the volcano are presented, how to know where to go if the volcano is active, etc. You always must be one step ahead of ... • 4. College Life and Stress In the research article by MacNair and Elliott, it is stated that college students are more prone to stress (D Zurilla Sheedy, 1991) because of the transitional nature of college life (Towbes Cohen, 1996). The main contributing factors to the stress is being away from home for the first time, trying hard to maintain academic achievement and adjusting to a new social environment. How they handle the stress will affect the way they make decisions and solve problems that arises as they go through college life. A scale called the Student Stress Survey, which is a questionnaire of 40 potentially stressful scenarios, is used to determine the sources of stress. According to the article, there are five main sources of stress. A change in sleeping habits, vacations/breaks, changes in eating habits, new responsibilities and increased work load. The outcome of stress may depend on its source and the severity. Stress among college students is a major problem, impacting their overall health. Students, especially the freshmen s, who are expected to handle difficult academic workloads at a faster pace while adapting to new social situations. A study done by Paul D. Welle and Helen M. Graf (2010). is to determine the effectiveness of lifestyle habits and coping strategies on stress tolerance among college students. Those who have a habit of exercising tend to be able to handle stress better. The test is conducted using cluster sampling which is recommended for sampling intact groups as ... • 5. How Coyotes Killed Deer Hunting As a deer hunter, I never like to hear about whether another fellow hunter s herd is much smaller this year. To understand what the author is conveying and whether the reader is engaged and informed of the issue, we need to look at the points Honeycutt is making. Coyotes predatory behaviour on white tail deer is the main reason why herd numbers are so small. Furthermore to understand if his message is getting across we need to look at the importance of the points he is making. Not many hunters realize that coyotes are having a significant impact on herd numbers. This is the point the author of the article How Coyotes Killed Deer Hunting makes. One point Honeycutt made was how did coyotes spread east of the Mississippi River? While there is no definite way to determine how the coyotes got there in the first place, we can infer that habitat destruction and human settlement has pushed the coyotes towards the east. Honeycutt doesn t state this specifically, but he hints at it when he says between 1900 1950 they spread into the great lake regions and on into northeastern states. Then during the late 1900 s and early 2000 s they spread from southern plains eastward to the southeastern region of the country (Honeycutt, 2016). A second point ... The only reason I agree with Honeycutt is because I have family in the southern states, and deer is a good source of food. So if the coyote problem gets any worse it may be leaving many families with very little to eat. Many families in the south rely on hunting, but not as a sport, they rely on it to ... • 6. Liquor Never Brewed In I taste a liquor never brewed Emily Dickinson expresses her passion and love for nature by talking about her intoxication of alcohol. The extended metaphor and use of sound reflects the speaker s attitude toward nature. With a decently constructed extended metaphor, Dickinson shows her love of nature. The open line brings something interest to the reader: a liquor never brewed (l.1). How can a liquor never have brewed be a liquor? This opening line hooks attention tightly by introducing a seemingly contradiction. The special liquor initiates the metaphor of nature, which is strengthened and clarified by inebriate of air (l.5) and Debauchee of Dew (l.6) in the second stanza. Dickinson connects features of drunkenness and nature in those two lines: the narrator is not getting drunk with alcohol, but with the admirable scenery in nature. The following line further explains the setting of the poem endless summer day (l.7). Also, in the first stanza, the speaker comments that the liquor never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second and fourth line in each stanza have end rhymes, such as door (l.10) and more (l.12), run (l.14) and sun (l.16). The regular pattern of the end rhymes adds on order in the poem, and forms a contrast with the first and third line in the stanza. The order of rhymes can represent the order of nature; the disorder of other lines can represent the excitement after drinking alcohol and the speaker s copious love for nature. Moreover, the alliteration in the poems adds singsong quality: Debauchee... Dew (l.6), seraph... swing... snowy... saints (l.12 13). And through her word choice of informal words such as Debauchee (1.6) and Tippler (l.15), we can feel a light and bright tone in the poem. This tone connects to the real subject of the poem nature because summer days are delightful and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner In the essay On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, Eighner talks about materialism and wealth. He explains his process of dumpster diving and the best places to go to dumpster dive. Eighner incorporates tone, detail, irony, observation, and ethos throughout his essay. The tone of On Dumpster Diving is straightforward. In the beginning of Eighner s essay, he goes straight into talking about dumpster diving, and he does not beat around the bush. For example, in the beginning of his essay, Eighner says, Long before I began Dumpster diving I was impressed with Dumpsters, enough so that I wrote the Merriam Webster research service to discover what I could about the word Dumpster, (p 1). Eighner describes dumpster diving as his profession. Eighner says, Eating safely from the Dumpsters involves three principles: using the senses and common sense to evaluate the condition of the found materials, knowing the Dumpsters of a given area and checking them regularly, and seeking always the question Why was this discarded? (p 10). Throughout Eighner s essay, Eighner incorporates detail. He explains how he hates to see food go to waste, which helps the reader understand that he is not a materialistic person. Eighner says, I just hate to see food go to waste and so I eat much more than I should (p 47). Eighner sees wealth as something many people take advantage of. For example, he says, The student does not know that, and since it is Daddy s money, the student decides not to take the chance, (p 26). When Eighner says this statement, he means that students will waste perfectly good items, because it is not their money they are wasting. Students do not value money, and they do not see throwing away good items a bad thing. Eighner also incorporates irony throughout his essay. He says, Between us are the rat race millions who have confounded their selves with the objects they grasp and who nightly scavenge the cable channels looking for they know not what. I am sorry for them (p 79 80). Eighner s statement is ironic because he says he feels sorry for materialistic and wealthy people when typically they are sorry for him. Eighner is in a healthy state of mind and he feels sorry for the people who always feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Great Depression 2008 Essay History has shown us again, and again that when power is left unchecked it becomes corrupt and out of control, that is the iron law of oligarchy. In the US we saw this happen recently in the 2008 economic meltdown. The banks and corporations should never have been aloud to become to big to fail, and once they did grow to a point when they were there should have been more government oversight to make sure things did not get out of hand. After the great depression laws were put in place to try to prevent something like that from ever happening again, but we undid those restrictions and ended up in a place eerily similar to somewhere we had been before. In this paper I will cover a brief history of the great depression, and show how the situation in 2008 was all too similar. I will also discuss and analyze the factors that brought us to the tipping point in our most recent economic scare. And finally I will explain why the actions taken by the FED were necessary and kept us from an even more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a huge company with thousands of employees and ties to other large companies goes down it can easily destroy the whole system and ruin the American economy along with the economies of many other nations. It is clear that these companies failing can cause immense damage to an economy but it is not clear what causes these companies to fail in the first place. Back in the depression it was fear and oversight that caused the banks to fail and in 2008 it was the same lack of oversight that allowed things to get so out of hand that the economy was on the brink of total collapse. • 9. Comparing Cinderella And Donkeyskin The protagonists in both stories of Cinderella and Donkeyskin are perhaps a vivid example of a character who is lost. In both stories, the girls are bound by one reason or another, whether it consist of her father, or two sisters and a godmother who have no care for her fate. Both stories portray her as helpless and equally unwilling to rebel against other characters, perhaps out of fear or her personality alone. Instead, she essentially beats them out in a more passive yet effective way. However throughout both these stories, it is clear that she does not have the wealth or luxury of doing this alone, hence where other characters take on that role. These characters are possibly abstract, or perhaps visions/voices from the thoughts of another character, such as Cinderella when the prince carries away the step sisters one by one, but the birds offer a piece of advice, telling the prince of a poem that explains that he has chosen the wrong girl. When reading this line, that repeats itself as he confuses the other step sister for Cinderella, I wondered if these were just images or lines within his head instead of real birds talking as the fairytale world may suggest. Comparison of how Orwell in 1984 and Ishiguro in Never Let Me Go use failure and futility in human relationships as a theme in their dystopian novels As humans, we judge ourselves by how others perceive us and seek to conform to a universally accepted code of ethics and laws. It is this inherent value that we possess, a conscience that make us different from animals and it is also what is missing to a large extent in Orwell s 1984 and Ishiguro s Never Let Me Go . The futility of relationships in these works is part of what makes the worlds in which they are based seem so bereft of hope and consequently, dystopia in nature. In Orwell s vision of humanity s future, the only truly acceptable thing to love is Big Brother. The Party ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The traditional structure of society in Never Let Me Go is altered, as there is clearly a subsection of humanity that the donors inhabit which is not apparent in our own lives. However, Ishiguro s world is not so different from our own, Hailsham seems like it could easily be a twentieth century boarding school with the result that the events have a more profound effect on the reader. Orwell uses a slightly different technique as the structure of human life is reduced in 1984 rather than altered. It is carried out up to the point where, No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend . Instead they turn to the only thing in their life that seems concrete, Big Brother. The Spies are the ultimate example of this because the Party has managed to sever the paternal bond, which should be stronger than almost anything else. The extent to which this is achieved is shown by Parson declaring he is, proud of his daughter for denouncing him as it proves that he, brought her up in the right spirit. It is as though the greatest achievement for a parent has become to create a tool for the party. Winston sums this up by saying, The terrible thing the Party has done was to persuade you that mere impulses, mere feelings, were of no account, while at the same time robbing you of all power over the material world. To protect and nurture your offspring is a natural instinct, but the Party has removed this and in doing so has reduced humanity. It is this that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Virtual Disappearance of Miriam is a story driven narrative whose primary focus is the main protagonist s attempts to, and consequent failures at, controlling of the digital world beyond the computer screen. Accordingly, the lexia are presented in a linear manner, and the path the reader chooses is largely dependent upon top down interaction. • 12. The Impact Of Political Machine On The City Summer Eldred Evans April 16, 2016 U.S. Urban History Essay: Urban America Discuss the political machine and its operations in the city, 1865 1939 The political machine is very powerful in the city and because of how powerful it is that urban United States was able to develop so much and increase in power in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. A political machine is system of political organization based on patronage, the spoils system, and political ties. Sometimes political machines have a boss and sometimes they may not have a boss, and always have a corps of workers who depend on the patronage given by government contracts and jobs. Machine politics has existed in many United States cities for a long time now, but are still in effect in some areas. The rapid growth of American cities in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s created huge problems for the government that ran the cities as in most cases in was very poorly structured and could not really give the people what they needed. It is because of the inability of city government to provide these things to the people that there was a rise in political machines. These political machines gained support from the population by providing houses for people who needed them and by also offering people jobs that they desperately needed. This gave the political machines a lot of power and support from there loyal followers. Voters are often rewarded with patronage jobs. However, patronage can result in poorer service to the ... There are many causes for the increase in violence in our society. Violence is defined by (1) criminal law, the illegal use of unjustified force, or the intimidating effect created by the threat of this (2) the use of physical force to injure somebody or damage something (Encarta Dictionary: English North American Version). These UK based media platforms were expected, in such a case of Catalonia, to report this story in depth. My analysis of the coverage will follow the chronological order of these platforms, which is the same historical appearance of newspapers, television and Internet. This may also facilitate how we understand the strengths and weaknesses of each medium in covering this Spanish crisis. The Guardian is centre left and favoured among Labour Party ... On the other hand, the Guardian included a picture of a pro Spain rally in Barcelona and quoted from Spanish leaders. Bias, if it was so, can be also seen in attributing ordinary Catalan people, which were divided over independence. Even when the correspondents quoted what a pro Spain thinks in page 4 (2nd October), it was a woman that changed her position to support the independence because she was pulled out by the police. Sky News , which is described as a pro conservative according to the media blog (2010), treated the event quite differently. For instance, the report in Sky News at 10 (2nd October) included a sound bite of a pro Spain Catalan to balance the news story. This may reflect impartiality in this outlet coverage, but it is not easy to say so. In this report and others, the correspondents insisted on the division of Catalans, which The Guardian ignored in the background. The report reminded the viewers that although the Catalan authorities declared that 90% of voters supported the independence, only 40% voted in that referendum. This statement of an interesting fact can communicate the story clearly to the audience. The focus of reports was on protests and police violence; however, the Correspondent s report from Barcelona in Sky News at 11 (3rd October) included a sound bite of the Spanish king speech. • 18. Analysis Of Unam Sanctam By Pope Boniface Viii Unam Sanctam This work is authored by Pope Boniface VIII from a rough timespan of 1294 1303. Boniface s affirmation that there is only one holy and catholic and apostolic Church serves as the main theme of this piece because it is directed toward the king of France. If one is to be called Christian and truly be one of Christ s flock, one must subject oneself to the Roman pope because he is the legitimate pope, being one of Peter s successors. Furthermore, there is no salvation outside of this Church. Pastor Aeternus Pope Leo X writes this piece in order to reinforce what Pope Boniface VIII says in Unam Sanctam. I was practicing over and over in my head what I was going to say to all the smart alecky adults who would tell me I was too young to ride the water slides. I was simply going to reply, Actually I m ten, going on eleven. On the right of me sat the girl I met in preschool, the swimmer who was named after a state like me: Tennessee. Tennessee and I had decided on the water gym when Anna suddenly stopped short. She pointed way up in the air. Our eyes slowly followed her finger. Through our ten year old eyes we saw what looked like the scariest ride in the entire world. It was a 50 foot tall, sky blue slide that went straight down into a giant pool of deep dark water. Anna looked around and smiled. Her short brown hair jumped and fell each time she took a long stride. Her brown eyes twinkled as she walked to the slide. Retirement Is An Important Life Transition Retirement is recognised as being an important life transition (Szinovacz, 1980), associated with a number of adjustments including social roles, income and daily routine adaption s (Pinquart Schindler, 2007). Although there is no single definition of what retirement is within existing literature (Denton Spencer, 2009), it can arguably be best understood as an subjective journey involving a psychosocial transition rather than a single event of exiting work or an objective life transition (Matour Prout, 2007, Kim Moen, 2002). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, due to the limited qualitative research, quantitative research has been supplemented to provide an understanding of the retirement transition. Even though quantitative literature will be reviewed, a critical stance is taken due to the different assumptions and philosophical underpinnings which are highlighted throughout. Firstly, retiree s can experience some losses during the retirement transition. It can be suggested that work is more than just bringing home an income (Kleiber Linde, 2014). For example, many individuals significantly identify with a work role which may have implications when adjusting to retirement life. Osborne (2012) suggests during the retirement transition, individuals can experience partial identity disruption. Identity refers to cognitive and effective meanings that an individual attributes to one s self in a role (Reitzes Mutran, 2006, p. 336). One explanation of this disruption is provided by role theory (George, 1993) which suggests individuals former roles within employment may form an integral part of their identity (Price, 2003). Therefore, it is suggested that psychological distress can occur due to the loss in retiree s previous work role which may disrupt their identity (Kim Moen, 2002). However, ... The Anti Stratfordians believe that Shakespeare was simply a paid player (The Shakespeare Question). The film effectively undermines this Anti Stratfordian argument by explaining how Shakespeare could have afforded to become a sharer in Richard Burbage ´s The Lord Chamberlain´s Men. They have a greater range of operation and have been applied to asset control and tracking livestock because of the greater range active tags allow (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Therefore, active tags require more maintenance, but they can broaden the scope in how RFID systems can be used. Some active tags can be equipped with an acceleration sensor that can determine when the tag begins accelerating and then transmit a signal to the reader. One example that this can be useful for is in shipping container transportation. Shipping containers can be lost at sea after falling off a ship and traditional RF technology may not be able to detect it in time. However, active tag RFID systems with an acceleration sensor can notify the system when the container begins falling, making it possible to recover (Weis, 2007, p. 10). Eusebius of Caesarea, born in 260 A.D. and died in 340 A.D, is referred to as the father of church history due to his penchant recording of historical church events. Moreover, Eusebius was an educated man, which allowed him the skill to record the history of the church as told to him, often times by witnesses themselves. In addition, Eusebius was a devout Christian. During the year 313, Eusebius Pamphili was named bishop of Caesarea. It s no surprise why Eusebius writes about Flavius Valerias Constantinus (Constantine) with not only fervor but veneration in this book. Constantine s father, Constantius Chlorus, was a devout believer in the Christian God, therefore Eusebius looked favourably on his governing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In spite of this, Eusebius is able to communicate his thesis and persuade readers using historical and sacred accounts. • 34. Fate In Ancient Greece And The Iliad Fate greatly affects a person s day to day life, regardless of where, and when a person lived. Whether fate was decided and set in stone, or if considered more fluid and changing, fate influences a society. Even today, people will base choices on fate and leave decisions up to fate, whether to cease anxieties over a big life change, or deciding that it was faith that you found twenty dollars on the sidewalk and you deserve to splurge on ice cream. A society interacts with the divine through fate. Because religion in every culture is different, fate as a concept differs from culture to culture, but every culture has a good and a bad ending. Without the outcome of a good or bad fate, there would be no need for religion. Because of the possibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are differences in the interpretation of cultural aspects in Greek and Roman literature. Greece and Rome both place heavy significance on fate, although, what defines fate is seemingly different in the Golden Ass when compared to the Iliad. In the Iliad, the characters appear to understand their predetermined fate as soldiers, then to the left our ready arms apply, / And live with glory, or with glory die (Homer 245), even though, individually, characters may ignore prophecies which ultimately predict their fate. In the Iliad, whether because of divine intervention or destiny, the characters have little impact on their own fate. In the Golden Ass, fate is never outright predetermined, and the characters individual actions matter. Although it may be alluded to, in stories like Lucius s, it is unknown how the story will end, until it has ended. In the Iliad, because of the prophecy, the reader knows Achilles will win the war for the Greeks, and according to Zeus s golden scale, Hector is doomed to die and cannot be saved. In the Iliad, the fate of Achilles is somewhat predestined to be a war hero. This prediction is lived out by Achilles, as he returns to the war and ultimately defeats the Trojans for Greece, and is declared a hero. Fate is seen as concrete, and unchanging. This is seen in most Greek literature, but in the Iliad, the entirety of the book is based on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Civil Disobedience Necessary Anyone in a free society where the laws are unjust has an obligation to break the law. Henry David Thoreau Thoreau wholeheartedly agreed with the idea of questioning a law that many find unjust, and many agree with him. Citizens that engage in Civil Disobedience are not overextending any form of right, but are in fact using the ones given to them by their constitution. Also, by engaging in civil disobedience, citizens are criticizing their government, something that was encouraged in the Greek and Roman republics which the United States bases the government upon. Civil Disobedience is remarkably effective without the violence that many had thought necessary. Several famous examples include the Salt March of Mahatma Gandhi, the Civil Rights movement of Martin Luther King Jr., and even the sit ins of the factory workers during the industrial revolution. Today, people migrate to America in droves to gain this freedom, for where they had come from, they would have been killed. It is not a freedom to be taken for granted, seeing as it had done so much for the minorities of the United States, and while it isn t perfect yet, with more Civil Disobedience it could be. Overall, Civil Disobedience is an important part of the United States and what it is. If America did not have the laws protecting those who had protested against the crimes of the government, it would not have made the progress that it has. Germany s air force outnumbered the British significantly; by August, the Luftwaffe had gathered 2669 operational aircraft, which consisted of 1015 bombers, 346 dive bombers, 933 fighters, and 375 heavy fighters (Churchill 323). The German planes were faster, but British planes were more manoeuvrable which gave the British an advantage during aerial combat. Moreover, the British had the strategic advantage of fighting on their home land; German planes could not fly for very long before having to return back to base to refuel, in contrast the British could make rapid stops to refuel and return to battle much quicker than the Germans. ... The issues range from globalization to the state of the environment with every political, economic, and human interest lying in between. It is these human interests that will be brought to light by examining the revolutions of the Incan indigenous beginning in the early part of the twentieth century. Ever since the time of Spanish colonial rule, Incans were being treated completely unfairly. And in the late 18th century, Peru began to see the first of its native revolutions under Jose Gabriel Tupac Amaru II in 1780. These uprisings were headed by Indian nobility who showed antipathy towards the Spanish administration as a result of being forced to subject their own people to taxes, unfair market prices, and slave labor. The Incans throughout the time of Spanish colonial rule had hopes for the renewal of their age old empire. However despite at least 100 revolts against colonialism the empire was never revived. (Strong 41) It was not until the 1920 s that the Incan rebellion would make any significant progression excluding the pride they may have taken in brutal revenge and retaliation murders and massacres against Spaniards. In this decade Peru witnesses the first shift from predominantly unorganized revolution to serious political development. Complementarity In Wesley s Song, Wouldn T Change A Thing Complementarity is defined as the popularly supposed tendency, in a relationship between two people, for each to complete what is missing in the other. This explains the phenomenon of opposites attract; people tend to be attracted to those that are different in personality than them because their differences are complementary. The song, Wouldn t Change A Thing, by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas, represents the idea of opposites being attracted to each other, but yet, they are complementary. The chorus states, Like fire and rain, you can drive me insane, but I can t stay mad at you for anything. We re Venus and Mars. Trevor Wesley s song, Chivalry Is Dead, describes that act of a man being a gentleman towards a woman. So I must open doors and make you feel like the lady you are. My momma raised me to be classy, not flashy. I m happy to please you, though I can tell that s not what you re used to and they say chivalry is dead, says Wesley. The message that the song is trying to get across is that today, many women view acts of kindness as foreign and strange because unfortunately, it is common for women to be disrespected more than ever; this explains the idea that chivalry is dead. However, Wesley says that chivalry still exists; women should be treated with respect and although he acts like a gentleman, that does not mean he will take advantage of ... • 42. Rules In The Handmaids Tale Bruno Bettelheim once said, Punishment may make us obey the orders we are given, but at best it will only teach an obedience to authority, not a self control which enhances our self respect. More often than not, those surrounded by rules feel pressured to adhere to them due to the fear of repercussions. Even so, it is not guaranteed people will comply. Sometimes, being bound by rules can only make one feel rebellious. This proves to be true in Margaret Atwood s speculative fiction novel, The Handmaid s Tale. Through characterization, flashbacks, and point of view, Atwood demonstrates how strict rules lead to the temptation for defiance, despite the possible consequences. In the novel, the majority of the characters seem to acknowledge the strict laws of Gilead, while still not fully obeying them. Though breaking these laws leads to cruel ramifications (e.g. hanging, exile, etc.), it does not stop members of the society from breaking these said rules. In chapter 23, Offered goes to see the Commander in his room alone one night. My presence here is illegal. It is forbidden for us to be alone with the Commanders (Atwood, 136). Conditioning human behavior has been studied for many years, Psychologists Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner, have dedicated the majority of their lives to the study. Thorndike s theory Law of effect. Thorndike suggests that certain stimuli and response become connected or dissociated from each other. His experiment worked by placing a cat in a box, then observing its behavior as it tried to escape and obtain the food on the other side. He studied several cats and plotted the time it took for them to escape from the puzzle box. The challenge to get out of the box remained the same, but the amount of time to get out of the box decreased, and while the animal may have not realized what it was doing, but knew what he had to do to receive the food. He concluded that animals learn from reward and punishment or trial and error. The theory of B.F. Skinner is based upon the idea that learning is about change in behavior. Operant conditioning is learning by consequence. To put it simply, an action which he rewarded is likely to be repeated along with an action that is punished is less likely to be repeated. B.F. These two points contradict as they are total opposites and they suggest two different things. We are all monsters, Chaya said, because we are letting it happen. However, Rivka also says, We are all heroes here. These two points have two many different perspectives on what people are like in the concentration camps. Both statements have their points, but the mostly correct one goes to Rivka. One of the reasons for why Rivka is mostly correct is because all of the prisoners are making the best of what they have and they are trying to help the kids feel better, even with the situation of being locked into a concentration camp. I say this because it states on page 135, The afternoon Gitl organized a rope and the children played jumping games after dinner.
