Sir Francis Drake Essay
In 1577, Queen Elizabeth chose Sir Francis Drake as the leader of an expedition intended to pass
around South America through the Strait of Magellan and to explore the coast that lay beyond. The
queen s support was advantageous; Drake had official approval to benefit himself and the queen as
well as to cause the maximum damage to the Spaniards. This would eventually culminate in the Anglo
Spanish War. Before setting sail, Drake met the queen face to face for the first time and she said to
him, We would gladly be revenged on the King of Spain for divers injuries that we have received. [1]
The explicit object was to find out places meet to have traffic. Drake, however, acted as a privateer,
with unofficial support from Queen Elizabeth.[2] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her return and that of other investors came to £47 for every £1 invested, or a total return of 4,700%.

After Drake s circumnavigation, Golden Hind was maintained for public exhibition in Deptford. This
is the earliest known example of a ship being maintained for public display because of her historic
significance. Golden Hind remained there for nearly 100 years before she eventually rotted away and
was finally broken up.
A table, known as the cupboard (pronounced cup board ), in the Middle Temple Hall (in London) is
reputed to have been made from the wood of Golden Hind, as is a chair in the Great Hall, Buckland
Abbey, Devon. Upon the cupboard is placed the roll of members of Middle Temple, which new
members sign when they are called to the Bar. The ship s lantern also hangs in the vestibule of Middle

The Arrival Of The Future
The Arrival of the Future
Is the beginning the end? This is how Denis Villeneuve, director of Arrival, decided to begin the Oscar
nominated film. With nonlinear timeline at the focus of the film, this controversial style illustrates
violence between characters, specifically Louise, shows the tool given to humanity by the Heptapods,
and the relationship of the characters.
Erik Bork, an Emmy and Golden Globe winning author for HBO, states that Jumping around in time
with flashbacks can be confusing in a script, and can make it hard for a reader to get oriented and
settle into one particular story, in a specific time frame (Bork, par. 1). He continues to explain, It s
usually better to just have one, at most, and have the rest of the movie take place in what seems like
continuous present time (Bork, par. 9). Many critics would agree with Bork, siding with his belief in
the confusing nature of flashbacks.
However, Arrival s use of a nonlinear timeline is vital to the story of the film. the Heptapods give
Louise the ability to see time in a nonlinear fashion. There is no other way the writers of Arrival could
have conveyed her newfound ability. Her ability to perceive future events is evident while Louise is
talking to the Prime Minister of China, a militant character, by saying to him in the present what she
sees herself being reminded of in her flashforward at a peace gathering. This climatic moment is
relieved by Louise s ability. This scene is difficult to show in word,

Margaret Sanger s A Moral Necessity For Birth Control
Public discussions of birth control were criminalized under the Comstock Act of 1873 because people
believed it was immoral. Margaret Sanger, who had opened the first birth control clinic in 1916 in
spite of the Comstock Act of 1873, was a feminist and advocate of eugenics. After serving prison time,
Sanger returned publicly and illegally with drive to present a strong argument that defended the moral
use of birth control. Prior to her morally controversial 1921 speech, Sanger was arrested in New York
for her intent to advocate public knowledge pertaining to birth control. Although the ethical nature of
using birth control is still controversial in America, Margaret Sanger s 1921 speech A Moral Necessity
for Birth Control was undoubtedly a catalyst for American women to be empowered with the
flexibility to choose when to procreate, thus allowing women the economic ability to escape
oppression. As a result of such empowerment, I will argue that the speech s sententious delivery of the
morality of birth control use was causal to the increased demographic of women with professional
degrees.
As a Christian, Sanger developed her ethos by accepting the premise that illegitimate conception was
immoral. However, she further argued that sexual intercourse was inevitable and that unintended
pregnancy was the pressing issue in terms of what was moral. Her speech described the lack of public
information on birth control as a way of oppressing women. This ignorance hindered women

Lab Report On Biodiversity
Joanna Martinez BIO111L 17 07 December 2017 Lab Report 10 As global population increases, the
more resources are needed and become high in demand. Some of the resources that are in high
demand are fuel, water and food. Biodiversity is very important for humans to understand because it
helps us to understand the variation of species and how life originated on planet earth. Biodiversity is
crucial to this planet because if the chain is disturbed then the planet could be put to a halt. Humans
are interdependent on biodiversity so without it both of our systems would start declining. Think about
it like this, imagine an early morning, waking up to many different animals in your backyard. These
animals would consists of birds, squirrels and a butterfly. Then slowly you start seeing that these
animals are vanishing. Unfortunately, this is happening in forests. Earth is going through a mass
extinction that is becoming dangerous for mankind. Humans are not taking much interest in this issue
because they are not seeing the real damage with their own eyes. Extinction would take millions of
years for it to finally take its course and those living today know they won t be around for those
millions of years. Every step taken in these years is affecting Earth slowly. Not every human could go
into a forest and see what is happening and see all the planets and animals that are still around. But

Analysis Of Raghu Nandan s Understanding Of An Intrapreneur
Intrapreneurial
Intrapreneurial Opportunities are key components for companies actively involved in new strategic
planning as they seek success in the near future. Raghu Nandan s understanding of an intrapreneur is
an individual or a group of individuals that work for a large company that take internal ideas and
visions within a company and configures them into a higher gross profit for a company (Nandan,
2009). An intrapreneur is similar to an entrepreneur with the concept of a business idea that is created
with innovation and designed to generate a revenue stream but the only difference is that and
entrepreneur doesn t operate under a large company.

By performing a PEST analysis on State Farm insurance, it is clear that the auto insurance industry in
New York is operating under many laws and restrictions when viewed from a political perspective.
Since State Farm is a financial service, there is no physical product that is being created and
manufactured. Financial service can be difficult to market because there is no product and discussed in
the social element of the PEST analysis, insurance companies don t always have a good reputation. It
is import for intrapreneurs to develop excellent marketing and advertisements that will attracted many
customers with intentions of company expansion. With advertisement in this industry, there should be
many targeted markets. A great example of State Farm taking advantage of its intrapreneurial

The Economic Problem Of The Market Economy
The economic problem faced in the market economy is that there are an unlimited amount of wants
with a scarce amount of resources. They only current solution is to make decisions as the desire of
satisfying all wants is not possible. Economics is the about the allocation of limited resources in the
best possible way in order to satisfy needs (items essential for survival food and shelter) and wants
(not necessities, but provide satisfaction and assist achievement of higher standard of living). In order
to choose where to allocate resources, four fundamental questions must be attempted to be answered:
1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to distribute production?
And with the usage of potential answers, opportunity cost (the loss of other alternatives when one
alternative is chosen) occurs with every decision made. Individual consumers, business firms and the
government are faced with the economic problem and must observe choices whilst considering the
opportunity cost of these decisions which makes different economic factors such as individuals,
businesses and the government address this problem in diverse ways. There are four fundamental
questions, which assist addressing the economic problem when businesses need to prepare to produce
goods and services: 1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to
distribute production? Question one simply means that because of limited resources and unlimited
wants,

A Literary And Historical Standpoint
Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven analyses of Shakespeare
s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story of the object asserting itself as a thing. By
treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in
a subject object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the
object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our interpretive
attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic because the object
then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see
that it has knowledge with or without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary
allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that totalizes
the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world
but actively impacts the world with its presence.
However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it.
Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my
argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a thing and
why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing.

(Freud, Civilization) They also said a person does not stop developing after they turn eighteen. Freud
did develop another theory that many authors have described in their literary works, which included
the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id, Ego, and Superego dealt with how the mind worked
conscientiously and unconsciously. It also described the behavior of the human body and why we do
the things we do. Freud was a real pessimist when it came to human nature. He identifies mans
weaknesses in saying that man is a biological creature with biological drives. He reflected these ideas
off of Darwin s original ideas. (Freud, Civilization) Another big work is of Dr.Victor.E.Frankl
regarding the Humanistic Psychology. There arises the concept of the forces. (runet.edu) The First
Force systematically excluded the subjective data of consciousness and much information bearing on
the complexity of the human personality and its development. The Second Force emerged out of
Freudian psychoanalysis and the depth psychologies of Alfred Adler, Erik Erikson, Erich Fromm,
Karen Horney, Carl Jung, Melanie Klein, Otto Rank, Harry Stack Sullivan and others. These theorists
focused on the dynamic unconscious the depths of the human psyche whose contents, they asserted,
must be integrated with those of the conscious mind in order to produce a healthy human personality

Human Testing On Human Beings
Since the beginning of time in the medical field, toxicology has always been a profound question.
What is toxic? And what not toxic. This question has pondered medical professionals for years. The
toxicity of anything varies greatly, what can and is toxic to one person may not be toxic to another,
and so on and so forth, this also includes as to what dosage of certain medicines and chemicals fall
into the toxic category as well. What one person can inquest safely might kill another person? So how
do we determine what is toxic, and how certain chemicals effect humans and animals? The answer is,
we must perform test on something that is similar to the human species. Animals having similar traits
and features in the body have often been the experimentation method of choice. By using animals in
testing has raised a lot of concern and controversy over the years, but so has testing on human beings.
One of the most horrifying examples of human testing was during World War II, the Nazi party in its
quest to create the ultimate human species, performed a lot of testing on the Jews that were in the
concentration camps with horrific results. But one good thing did come from this testing and that was
the general knowledge of what a person could endure resulting in the better treatment of any species
being tested for research purposes. The results from various chemical tests have been carried out for
the benefit in the risks for humans, animals and the environment they are

masters and freedmen agreed on sharecropping. The landowner would loan tools and seed to the

However, when the time came for the freedman to make his loan payment (in the form of harvest) at

Beta Rho Microaggressions Summary
Shifting the conversation of Latin Heritage Month toward microaggressions Latinos faces in their
everyday lives, the Beta Rho Chapter of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. pushed students to become
more conscious of their statements and how it could impact others around them.
Establishing its chapter at Ramapo College in 2010, Beta Rho brings together people of diverse
backgrounds through a network of sisterhood, leadership and guidance. At its second annual Que
Dijo? Event, alumni of Ramapo College addressed the multitude of microaggressions in daily
dialogues that continue to foster stereotypes.
Microaggressions are little phrases that sugarcoat or enhance stereotypes, said Thalia Mercado, senior
mathematics major.
For Mercado, the most common microaggression she encounters is that she cannot speak Spanish even
though she identifies as Latina. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Microaggressions make people feel like they don t meet certain requirements, said Mercado. Who

Assumptions made by society can stir anger among individuals who defy widely accepted stereotypes
such as the notion that all Mexicans illegally crossed the border into the United States.
With my identity as a Mexican, it s always like Oh, you cross the border? Not really though, because I
m actually American and my parents are Mexican, said Alina Sanchez, alumna of Ramapo College
Class of 2016. Every now and then, it could be a joke but it could also build up and go to the point
where it bottles up inside.
Microaggressions are deeply rooted in society, reinforced by dialogue heard on television shows that
subtly joke about real life situations. Modern day Latinos, however, are defying these stereotypes by
earning a college degree and obtaining high level positions in all

lab is to teach the student how to measure properly the many units in the SI system. I will be using
laboratory dilutions, measurements, and weights to then calculate using algebraic formula.

fork in centimeters and then convert our findings to give us the appropriate units of millimeters and
meters for each object required in the exercise.
Data Table 1: Length measurements. | Object | Length (cm) | Length (mm) | Length (m) | CD or DVD |

the amount of moles of that substance in a solution. For example; in exercise 3 we were asked to
weigh 8 grams of sugar and then calculate how many moles of sugar it really was. Using the
molecular weight of sugar (C = 12.01 grams/mol, H = 1.008 grams/mole, O = 15.00 grams/mole). We
were then able to use this molecular mass of the sugar that we then had to use to calculate and

The Spanish Civil War
This investigation assesses to what extent the economic and social problems of Spain were involved
into leading the Spanish civil war (1936 1939). This topic at the start inspired my attention because of
the many long term causes of the Spanish civil war. I decided to narrow my attention on to the
economic and social problems since they both go hand in hand of the Spanish civil war since it was
one of the long term causes of the Spanish civil war. The two books are sources to investigate this
with an evaluation of their origins, purpose, values and limitations. I then go on to analyse how
different books viewed the Spanish civil war. With this we can draw a conclusion on how much social
and economic factors lead to the Spanish civil war. B. Summary of Evidence In the early decades of
the twentieth century, Spain was still a in the main agricultural country and more than half the
employed population worked on land. (Knight, 1998). According to Anthony Beevor commercial

The Importance Of Pulse Pressure
1. Define pulse pressure? How did it change with light and heavy exercise to PP? What is the expected
PP response to exercise? 2 marks
 Pulse pressure is the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure reading. It represents the
force that the heart generates each time it contracts. During exercise periods, the pulse pressure will
increase because the stroke volume, or the amount of ventricular blood pumped with a given
contraction increases to fuel muscular contractions. This increase in stroke volume will cause an
increase in systolic pressure, while the diastolic pressure will remain relatively constant, increasing the
value of pulse pressure. Based on needs for muscular activity, the stroke volume will adjust
accordingly, so lighter exercise will have a smaller increase in ventricular contraction and heavier
exercise will have a greater increase in ventricular contraction. This will result in a smaller increase in
systolic pressure for light activity and greater increase in systolic pressure for heavy activity. It is
expected this to happen because with an increasing demand for oxygenated blood from muscles
engaging in sarcomeric contraction, the heart will contract with greater force (systolic pressure) in
order to maximize stroke volume, ensuring that sufficient oxygen/nutrients is given to working
muscles.
2. Describe the mean arterial blood pressure response to light and

Airline Deregulation
On October 24, 1978, President Carter signed into law the Airline Deregulation Act. The purpose of
the law was to effectively get the federal government out of the airline business. By allowing the
airlines to compete for their customers travel dollars, was the thinking, that fares would drop and an
increased number of routes would spring up.
Expected Results
The results of airline deregulation speak for themselves. Since the government got out of the airline
business, not only has there been a drop in prices and an increase in routes, there has also been a
remarkable increase in airline service and safety. Airline deregulation should be seen as the crowning
jewel of a federal de regulatory emphasis. Prices are down: Airline ... Show more content on

But the legislation winding its way through the legislative maze that is Congress does anything but
move towards increased privatization. S. 1331, sponsored by Senator John McCain (R AZ), would
make it more difficult for large carriers to offer low fares. The justification for this action it to make
entry into the market easier, and therefore increase competitiveness within the industry. But while this
may enable small airlines to enter markets, it essentially creates an affirmative action program for
corporations that are inefficient by reserving runway space for these airlines.
The only good language in the Senate bill is that which would eliminate perimeter restrictions on
Washington s Ronald Reagan Airport. This would kill the rule that prevents flights to and from
National from more than 1250 miles away. While this may just be a measure so that Congressmen
won t have to drive to the out of town Dulles Airport in Virginia, it is a good precedent to set for other
airports and the elimination of market restrictions.
The House has a companion bill, H.R. 2748, which does not go as far as the Senate bill in its
regulatory language. But Speaker Newt Gingrich (R GA) has predicted that Congress will pass some

Committee said, I don t know if the two sides will come together this year.

Black Mammy, The Happy Sambo And The Brute
Black is ugly, Blacks are savage, Blacks are happy servants. These were stereotypes that were played

docile, willing, or happy go lucky servants. Black Mammy, who first showed up in children s stories
and cartoons was a fat, pitch black, happily obedient servant. She was loyal to the family that she
worked for, taking care of the master s children. She was seen as kind and gentle towards the children,
wearing her bandana and a big smile. Though she had no figure and was ugly, she couldn t be seen as

Walker Moment At Walmart
My Reflection Schaie and Sherry (2016) state that (p.?). I would like to start by saying that I quite
liked this assignment and past my partial embarrassment from walking my walker around it was a
really eye opening experience. Probably at least partially because of the embarrassment. I went to
three places while using the walker and these places were Walmart, my apartment, and my anatomy
lecture. The first place I well address during this reflection well be Walmart. Out of all of the places I
would say this was easiest to traverse while using the walker. The aisles were quite large and well
suited for walker movement, although I soon found out that it was impossible to move the cart along
with the walker, so I was lucky my girlfriend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was without a doubt the most difficult of the three locations that I used the walker. My apartment
is absolutely not designed for walker use. Firstly, the steps leading up to my apartment door are often
covered in ice during the colder months because of how the roof pours water onto them. Not that, that
was problem while using my walker, but I could easily foresee a horrible accident if I was less able to
catch myself while walking up or down them. Then after enduring the walk up the stairs you get into
the apartment and through the door. Luckily it is one the first floor of the apartment building, so I don
t have to go up the steeper, smaller flight of stairs that lead to the second floor apartments. After
entering the apartment, you well come to find that we have are apartment set up in such a way that we
often end up sliding sideways past many things. For example, we often have a fan sitting in front of
the door way into our room and this is a pain in the ass to move with the walker. Because the top of it
slides off if you do not also grab the bottom part with it, so moving it while using the walker is next to
impossible. Then there is the kitchen. It is almost impossible to open the door of the fridge while the
walker is in the kitchen. It takes some rather clever maneuvering and effort to achieve the feat. So
certainly not ideal. Than it goes from the almost impossible kitchen, to the literally impossible

Nutrition BIO 151
Chapter 3 Digestion
Cheyenne De Jong
October 8, 2017
The digestive system is a group of organs that work together. It is responsible for taking whole foods
and turning them into energy and nutrients to allow the body to function, grow and repair itself. Today,
I will explain how the digestive system performs this unique process. I m having a loaded tuna
sandwich with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise. The bread of my sandwich is mostly
carbohydrates. Carbs are the sugars, starches and fibers found in fruits, grains, vegetables and milk
products. Carbohydrates contain macronutrients that provide fuel for the Central Nervous System and
energy for working muscles. The tuna in my sandwich contains mostly proteins and is also high in
vitamin B12. Proteins are substances that have amino acids, compounds, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen,
nitrogen and sometimes sulfur and are found in many foods. They are essential in the diet for growth
and repair of tissue and can be obtained from foods such as meat, fish, eggs, milk and legumes. The
lettuce contains fiber, carbs, and vitamins C and A. The tomato also has vitamin C. My cheese has
protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and also fats, or lipids. The mayonnaise is mostly lipids as well. Lipid is
another word for fats . They are stored in the body as energy reserves and are also important
components of cell membranes. As I take my first bite, the sandwich enters my mouth. My mouth
releases enzymes like amylase and

Summary Of The Noble Treason
For my book review I read the book, A Noble Treason written by Richard Hanser. The Noble Treason
is about Sophie Scholl and the White Rose Revolt against Adolf Hitler. Taking place in 1942, Sophie
Scholl and her older brother Hans were bright, young university students in Munich University in
Germany. They had once been passionate supporters of the German renewal promised by National
Socialism, as members of the Hitler Youth. But as their comprehension of Nazi barbarism grew, so did
their moral outrage towards Adolf Hitler. In result, Sophie and Hans Scholl formed a small group of
like minded friends, which originally included a student of philosophy, two medical students, and a
fifty year old professor. They were all identified as Christians from ... Show more content on

He was meaning to show everyone that they are all equal and that every single one is the same no
matter their differences. In my opinion, this true story showed determination and willpower because
The White Rose was persisting in making their country better, not only for themselves but for future
generations. They risked their lives not caring if they broke the law. They knew that Adolf Hitler was
afraid of anyone corrupting the influence that he had over the people. In addition, I believe that he
wanted to recall that even in the harshest times, people can still have hope and stand up for
themselves. For instance, The White Rose changed many perspectives of others by simply publishing
six leaflets which exposed Hitler s cruel ways. He wanted to emphasize and teach others that everyone
has the freedom to think for themselves. Nobody should force one another what to do or what to think
because it is their choice whether or not do will or will not do

Essay about staffing policies
CURRENT POLICIES AND PRACTICES
In order to maintain a competitive edge and consistently reduce staffing issues, many companies have
turned to alternative methods of staffing. As companies continue to change with the times , so do their
staffing needs. Therefore, the traditional hiring of a full time employee is not the only option.
Companies have turned to more effective ways of getting the job done. They are using outside sources
to recruit employees.
United Healthcares hiring practices will be utilized in this report to identify the ways in which a
company fills its open positions. First there is the process of finding external candidates for a position.

The staffing policies, which United Healthcare uses, are like that of many other organizations. Lots of
companies today are using the same or similar sources to fill their positions. There staffing policies are
often reviewed to ensure that they are similar to that of their competitors.
Unfortunately, like many other companies, United has had to go through the process of downsizing

Abstract
The essay comprises an introduction explaining the term pulmonary compliance. The next section
includes a definition and characteristics of the group of diseases restrictive pulmonary disorders.

The average compliance levels at about 200 milliliters of air/cm of water transpulmonary pressure. It
is to mention that those pressures mentioned varie in inspiration (inspiratory compliance curve) and
expiration (expiratory compliance curve). Visualization can be done according to the compliance
diagram.
The question that arises now is which forces act upon the lung tissue to create the trans
pulmonary/alveolar and finally the compliance of the lung? To answer it one has to look closer at the
structure of the pulmonary tissue, which is found to be elastic. Interwoven into the parenchyma we
can find elastin and collagen fibers which determine the elastic forces of the lung. The other big factor
playing it s role is the surface tension of the fluid lining the alveolus.
II. Restrictive lung disorders
Is a group of disorders characterized by a decrease in lung capacity either caused by alterations in the
lung wall lining, disease of the internal wall of the lung or by neuromuscular mechanisms.
Translated into physiological values: Total lung capacity (TLC) decreases; Vital capacity of the
lung(VC) decreases ; Functional Residual capacity(FRC) decreases if caused by parenchymal lung
disease the gas exchange mechanism decreases as well.
Further on based on anatomical construct we have to differentiate between intrinsic and extrinsic
causes of restrictive lung disorders. The intrinsic

Chris Mccandless And The Alaskan Wilderness For A Time
Despite his inexperience at living off the land, Chris Mccandless managed to survive in the Alaskan
wilderness for a time. His adventures across the United States contributed to honing his skills at
surviving with inadequate supplies, little money, and few essential tools. Unfortunately This was not
enough, and his inexperience on the finer points of outdoor living and general knowledge of particular
subjects proved to create more challenges, and finally this inexperience killed him. Particularly, with
his successful kill of a moose we see a perfect example of his ignorance, Then on June 9, he bagged
the biggest prize of all: MOOSE! (166.) His tendency to brashly tackle everything head on with will
and determination ultimately led to his demise, Overjoyed, the proud hunter took a photograph of
himself kneeling over his trophy, rifle triumphantly overhead, his features distorted in a rictus of
ecstasy and amazement. (166.)
From McCandless notes and photographs of the kill, we realize that Chris s attempt to preserve the
meat was met in vain. June 14: Maggots already! Smoking appears ineffective. Don t know, looks like
a disaster. (167.) The moose was so large; to the point that Alex had trouble cutting out the parts of the
moose he needed. McCandless spent six days toiling to preserve what he had killed before it spoiled.
He butchered the carcass under a thick cloud of flies and mosquitoes. (166.) He rapidly came to
discover that the crude meat was spoiling

What Is The Value Of Human Life
Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value
into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a
limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide
what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as human life, intrinsically possess value, and
deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities.
Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due
tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little
scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies
greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs
depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more
than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose
prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others.
Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could
fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin).
However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the
others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most
important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain
value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This
means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more
value in these circumstances?
Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more
valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly
calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a
beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or

Analyzing the Significance of the Evolution of Aeronautics...
The advancement of air technology during the early twentieth century, brought about by the initiation
of World War One, has posed significant questions about the role and value of aeronautics in major
world tragedies, such as the September 11 Attacks in New York City and Washington D.C., and the
1991 Air Campaign of the Gulf War: Does the continuous advancement of aeronautics serve as the
true mastermind of such acts of savagery and tragedy? Is the advancement of aeronautics the culprit
responsible for the deaths of the elderly, women, infants, and children? Aeronautics revolutionized
World War One and set the stage for the occurrence of major global events throughout the twentieth
and twenty first centuries.

However, due to their penetrable material and large frame, they did not long withstand the ever
improving period of air warfare, and immediately were replaced with smaller, more durable aircraft.
At the beginning of the war, airplanes did not have the capacity to carry crews, as well as weapons. If
airmen had attempted to carry anything other than the crew on the planes, they would have carried the
severe risk of negatively affecting the performance of the plane, which would result in detrimental
effects on reconnaissance. However, as the war progressed, the idea of airplanes being utilized merely
for reconnaissance purposes was deferred as a result of the rapid rate of growth in aeronautics. Soon,
airplanes were being used to carry crews, weapons, and military supplies.
Along with the advancement of airplanes came the advancement of strategical tactics used in order to
prevent the primary purpose of airplanes during World War One: reconnaissance. One of the most
significant advancements in aeronautics as a result of the occurrence of World War One was the arrival
of air bombers. The arrival of air bombers occurred after aircrafts finally had the capacity to carry
crews, weapons, and military supplies without the performance of the airplane being affected. Air
bombers were utilized in order to prevent the spying of dispositions by the enemy. However, one

The Effects Of Prenatal Testing On Children With A Birth...
Prenatal testing was designed to allow a mother with a possible high risk the option to ensure the
health of their unborn child with a birth defect. The testing will also detect harm to the unborn fetus if
the mother was exposed to a disease or sickness. There are multiple levels of screening and testing that
can be done to provide to give results to an unborn child. The screenings are safe non invasive
procedures that will detect particular birth defects.1 The types of screenings that can be provided are
ultrasound, and blood test.
Ultrasound screening uses sound waves to create an image of the fetus in the uterus. The test will
determined the size and the position of the fetus as well as any abnormalities with the bones or organs
of the unborn fetus. 2 There are many types of ultrasounds and at different levels they will reveal more
in depth issues or abnormalities. The first type being nuchal translucency ultrasound; this type of
ultrasound is done at 11 weeks 2 day to 14 weeks and 2 days. This ultrasound measures fluid at the
back of the babies neck allowing detection of Down syndrome and major heart defects. The second
type of ultrasound available is fetal anatomy survey or a level 1 ultrasound. This ultrasound will show
how far along the pregnancy is. This is done between 17 to 20 weeks and allowing a head to toe scan
to detect birth defects. If the level 1 scan is deemed to be abnormal a level 2 ultrasound will be
preformed to detect harder to find defects.

One large plausible influence on a physician s marginal revenue product is surgery. In our textbook it

surgery makes the most revenue for the physician for multiple different factors. I believe this is mainly
because surgery is an expensive procedure to perform, but also a very experienced and knowledged

Immortal Technique s Song Industrial Revolution
In the song Industrial Revolution, musical artist and activist Felipe Andres Coronel, better known by
his stage name, Immortal Technique, emphasizes numerous societal and governmental issues in the
United States. In a similar way to Killer Mike, Technique uses specific historical events and facts to
project the corruption and manipulation that citizens in the United States are exposed to. The chorus
along with each of his verses are stacked with unrelenting attacks on the injustices of society. Many
expletive, vivid lyrics help to map out the general unrest and overall uneasy feelings of an entire
population in modern society.
The most stressed lyrics that carry the overall tone and theme reside in the chorus of the tune. This is

The result of the Industrial Revolution was a major economic boom in capitalism which led to some
individuals gaining major wealth, but leaving a majority of the population laboring in factories and
living in poverty. Technique emphasizes how nothing is free in a capitalist society. Although joining
the army to try and gain access to a job and education seems free, it comes with the cost of one s life
serving in war. The next line in the chorus talks about the devil, who serves as a recurring symbol in
many works of past musical activists such as Gil Scott Heron and Killer Mike. Immortal Technique
constantly attempts to dismantle the reputation of hip hop stars who falsely claim to have had a rough
life to sell the idea of black culture and image of the ghetto by playing broke. Not only does the devil
represent a powerful, manipulating force in capitalism, but a fake artist who Immortal Technique
claims he will inevitably destroy and exploit. In the third line of the chorus, Technique mentions the
reparations of restitution that is owed by fake rap artists for the damage that their rubbish has caused
to the rap game. The final line gets back to the idea of big industry having a deadly

  • 2. Sir Francis Drake Essay In 1577, Queen Elizabeth chose Sir Francis Drake as the leader of an expedition intended to pass around South America through the Strait of Magellan and to explore the coast that lay beyond. The queen s support was advantageous; Drake had official approval to benefit himself and the queen as well as to cause the maximum damage to the Spaniards. This would eventually culminate in the Anglo Spanish War. Before setting sail, Drake met the queen face to face for the first time and she said to him, We would gladly be revenged on the King of Spain for divers injuries that we have received. [1] The explicit object was to find out places meet to have traffic. Drake, however, acted as a privateer, with unofficial support from Queen Elizabeth.[2] ... [8] After Drake s circumnavigation, Golden Hind was maintained for public exhibition in Deptford. This is the earliest known example of a ship being maintained for public display because of her historic significance. Golden Hind remained there for nearly 100 years before she eventually rotted away and was finally broken up. A table, known as the cupboard (pronounced cup board ), in the Middle Temple Hall (in London) is reputed to have been made from the wood of Golden Hind, as is a chair in the Great Hall, Buckland Abbey, Devon. Upon the cupboard is placed the roll of members of Middle Temple, which new members sign when they are called to the Bar. The ship s lantern also hangs in the vestibule of Middle Temple ... • 3. The Arrival Of The Future The Arrival of the Future Is the beginning the end? This is how Denis Villeneuve, director of Arrival, decided to begin the Oscar nominated film. With nonlinear timeline at the focus of the film, this controversial style illustrates violence between characters, specifically Louise, shows the tool given to humanity by the Heptapods, and the relationship of the characters. Erik Bork, an Emmy and Golden Globe winning author for HBO, states that Jumping around in time with flashbacks can be confusing in a script, and can make it hard for a reader to get oriented and settle into one particular story, in a specific time frame (Bork, par. 1). He continues to explain, It s usually better to just have one, at most, and have the rest of the movie take place in what seems like continuous present time (Bork, par. 9). Many critics would agree with Bork, siding with his belief in the confusing nature of flashbacks. However, Arrival s use of a nonlinear timeline is vital to the story of the film. the Heptapods give Louise the ability to see time in a nonlinear fashion. There is no other way the writers of Arrival could have conveyed her newfound ability. Her ability to perceive future events is evident while Louise is talking to the Prime Minister of China, a militant character, by saying to him in the present what she sees herself being reminded of in her flashforward at a peace gathering. This climatic moment is relieved by Louise s ability. This scene is difficult to show in word, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Margaret Sanger s A Moral Necessity For Birth Control Public discussions of birth control were criminalized under the Comstock Act of 1873 because people believed it was immoral. Margaret Sanger, who had opened the first birth control clinic in 1916 in spite of the Comstock Act of 1873, was a feminist and advocate of eugenics. After serving prison time, Sanger returned publicly and illegally with drive to present a strong argument that defended the moral use of birth control. Prior to her morally controversial 1921 speech, Sanger was arrested in New York for her intent to advocate public knowledge pertaining to birth control. Although the ethical nature of using birth control is still controversial in America, Margaret Sanger s 1921 speech A Moral Necessity for Birth Control was undoubtedly a catalyst for American women to be empowered with the flexibility to choose when to procreate, thus allowing women the economic ability to escape oppression. As a result of such empowerment, I will argue that the speech s sententious delivery of the morality of birth control use was causal to the increased demographic of women with professional degrees. As a Christian, Sanger developed her ethos by accepting the premise that illegitimate conception was immoral. However, she further argued that sexual intercourse was inevitable and that unintended pregnancy was the pressing issue in terms of what was moral. Her speech described the lack of public information on birth control as a way of oppressing women. This ignorance hindered women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lab Report On Biodiversity Joanna Martinez BIO111L 17 07 December 2017 Lab Report 10 As global population increases, the more resources are needed and become high in demand. Some of the resources that are in high demand are fuel, water and food. Biodiversity is very important for humans to understand because it helps us to understand the variation of species and how life originated on planet earth. Biodiversity is crucial to this planet because if the chain is disturbed then the planet could be put to a halt. Humans are interdependent on biodiversity so without it both of our systems would start declining. Think about it like this, imagine an early morning, waking up to many different animals in your backyard. These animals would consists of birds, squirrels and a butterfly. Then slowly you start seeing that these animals are vanishing. Unfortunately, this is happening in forests. Earth is going through a mass extinction that is becoming dangerous for mankind. Humans are not taking much interest in this issue because they are not seeing the real damage with their own eyes. Extinction would take millions of years for it to finally take its course and those living today know they won t be around for those millions of years. Every step taken in these years is affecting Earth slowly. Not every human could go into a forest and see what is happening and see all the planets and animals that are still around. But fortunately for Cal Poly Pomona students, the campus has a bio trek center that consist of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Raghu Nandan s Understanding Of An Intrapreneur Intrapreneurial Intrapreneurial Opportunities are key components for companies actively involved in new strategic planning as they seek success in the near future. Raghu Nandan s understanding of an intrapreneur is an individual or a group of individuals that work for a large company that take internal ideas and visions within a company and configures them into a higher gross profit for a company (Nandan, 2009). An intrapreneur is similar to an entrepreneur with the concept of a business idea that is created with innovation and designed to generate a revenue stream but the only difference is that and entrepreneur doesn t operate under a large company. Customer Reach By performing a PEST analysis on State Farm insurance, it is clear that the auto insurance industry in New York is operating under many laws and restrictions when viewed from a political perspective. Since State Farm is a financial service, there is no physical product that is being created and manufactured. Financial service can be difficult to market because there is no product and discussed in the social element of the PEST analysis, insurance companies don t always have a good reputation. It is import for intrapreneurs to develop excellent marketing and advertisements that will attracted many customers with intentions of company expansion. With advertisement in this industry, there should be many targeted markets. A great example of State Farm taking advantage of its intrapreneurial opportunities is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Economic Problem Of The Market Economy The economic problem faced in the market economy is that there are an unlimited amount of wants with a scarce amount of resources. They only current solution is to make decisions as the desire of satisfying all wants is not possible. Economics is the about the allocation of limited resources in the best possible way in order to satisfy needs (items essential for survival food and shelter) and wants (not necessities, but provide satisfaction and assist achievement of higher standard of living). In order to choose where to allocate resources, four fundamental questions must be attempted to be answered: 1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to distribute production? And with the usage of potential answers, opportunity cost (the loss of other alternatives when one alternative is chosen) occurs with every decision made. Individual consumers, business firms and the government are faced with the economic problem and must observe choices whilst considering the opportunity cost of these decisions which makes different economic factors such as individuals, businesses and the government address this problem in diverse ways. There are four fundamental questions, which assist addressing the economic problem when businesses need to prepare to produce goods and services: 1. What to produce? 2. How much to produce? 3. How to produce? 4. How to distribute production? Question one simply means that because of limited resources and unlimited wants, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Literary And Historical Standpoint Although it is practical from a literary and historical standpoint, object driven analyses of Shakespeare s First Folio fail to account for, as Brown says, the story of the object asserting itself as a thing. By treating the First Folio as only a book meant to be read for information these analyses let it stagnate in a subject object binary which leads us to falsely believe that the subject creates knowledge from the object. Or as Brown says, we are stuck viewing the object as a code by which our interpretive attention makes them meaningful (Brown 4). This line of thinking is problematic because the object then lacks agency. When the object transitions to a thing, the binary no longer applies and we can see that it has knowledge with or without a subject involved. Additionally, this shift out of the binary allows for the thing to become its own subject. If, as Baudrillard believes it is the subject that totalizes the world (qtd in Brown) then this implies that the thing is not merely passively impacted by the world but actively impacts the world with its presence. However, only viewing the First Folio as a thing in opposition to an object also limits our study of it. Instead, I propose that we should examine the story of an object becoming a thing. Before I further my argument I want to take a moment to fully examine the difference between an object and a thing and why current scholarship has failed to acknowledge the importance of the First Folio becoming a thing. ... Freud did develop another theory that many authors have described in their literary works, which included the Id, Ego, and Superego. The Id, Ego, and Superego dealt with how the mind worked conscientiously and unconsciously. It also described the behavior of the human body and why we do the things we do. Freud was a real pessimist when it came to human nature. He identifies mans weaknesses in saying that man is a biological creature with biological drives. He reflected these ideas off of Darwin s original ideas. (Freud, Civilization) Another big work is of Dr.Victor.E.Frankl regarding the Humanistic Psychology. There arises the concept of the forces. (runet.edu) The First Force systematically excluded the subjective data of consciousness and much information bearing on the complexity of the human personality and its development. The Second Force emerged out of Freudian psychoanalysis and the depth psychologies of Alfred Adler, Erik Erikson, Erich Fromm, Karen Horney, Carl Jung, Melanie Klein, Otto Rank, Harry Stack Sullivan and others. • 12. Human Testing On Human Beings Since the beginning of time in the medical field, toxicology has always been a profound question. What is toxic? And what not toxic. This question has pondered medical professionals for years. The toxicity of anything varies greatly, what can and is toxic to one person may not be toxic to another, and so on and so forth, this also includes as to what dosage of certain medicines and chemicals fall into the toxic category as well. What one person can inquest safely might kill another person? So how do we determine what is toxic, and how certain chemicals effect humans and animals? The answer is, we must perform test on something that is similar to the human species. Animals having similar traits and features in the body have often been the experimentation method of choice. By using animals in testing has raised a lot of concern and controversy over the years, but so has testing on human beings. One of the most horrifying examples of human testing was during World War II, the Nazi party in its quest to create the ultimate human species, performed a lot of testing on the Jews that were in the concentration camps with horrific results. But one good thing did come from this testing and that was the general knowledge of what a person could endure resulting in the better treatment of any species being tested for research purposes. The results from various chemical tests have been carried out for the benefit in the risks for humans, animals and the environment they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the 21st century world of capitalism, what speaks more truly to an American than consumerism? Throughout Warmth of Other Suns, Wilkerson describes the journeys of migrants and the personal obstacles each character encountered while moving. These challenges and their relevance to the larger narrative of the Great Migration are represented through the items on display. • 18. The Importance Of Pulse Pressure 1. Define pulse pressure? How did it change with light and heavy exercise to PP? What is the expected PP response to exercise? 2 marks  Pulse pressure is the difference between the systolic and diastolic pressure reading. It represents the force that the heart generates each time it contracts. During exercise periods, the pulse pressure will increase because the stroke volume, or the amount of ventricular blood pumped with a given contraction increases to fuel muscular contractions. This increase in stroke volume will cause an increase in systolic pressure, while the diastolic pressure will remain relatively constant, increasing the value of pulse pressure. Based on needs for muscular activity, the stroke volume will adjust accordingly, so lighter exercise will have a smaller increase in ventricular contraction and heavier exercise will have a greater increase in ventricular contraction. This will result in a smaller increase in systolic pressure for light activity and greater increase in systolic pressure for heavy activity. It is expected this to happen because with an increasing demand for oxygenated blood from muscles engaging in sarcomeric contraction, the heart will contract with greater force (systolic pressure) in order to maximize stroke volume, ensuring that sufficient oxygen/nutrients is given to working muscles. 2. Describe the mean arterial blood pressure response to light and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. What Is The Value Of Human Life Tick Tock. I cannot be late. My boss will fire me if I am late. Why does the world place so much value into the artificial construct of time? One of the reasons that time is so valuable is because we have a limited amount of it. However, effort, commitment, and beauty also possess value. How do we decide what actually has value? Certain aspects of reality, such as human life, intrinsically possess value, and deserve protection regardless of their individual personalities. Say a project is due in two weeks. There is plenty of time to relax. But what if the project is due tomorrow? Suddenly, time seems more valuable. The world gives extraordinary value to the little scraps of paper we call money. While the monetary value does not change, the personal value varies greatly depending on the perspective. These examples explain how the perception of value differs depending on quantity. Individuals living in poverty value their possessions and relationships more than the rich. Human mortality highlights the value of living life with a purpose, whether that purpose prolongs one s own life, or protects the lives of others. Life Boat Ethics discusses the value of human life by presenting the argument that, if ten people could fit in a lifeboat, then one should give up their spot for someone who deserves it more (Hardin). However, the article does not specify what makes any person more worthy of salvation than the others. If one bases value on the amount of time possessed, then surely the children are the most important lives. However, the elderly have gained experience and wisdom, both of which contain value. And what if the person given a spot by the sacrifice of another gives up his spot as well? This means that the first person s sacrifice was meaningless. How does one determine which life has more value in these circumstances? Museums and art enthusiasts spend a lot of money on works of art. Why are certain paintings more valuable than others? There are not a limited amount of paintings. Perhaps it is impossible to truly calculate value, because the perception of value differs between individuals. A critic would value a beautiful piece of artwork more than an average piece, and would consequently spend more money or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
