Solomon Scale Model Essay
In my model, assessment of athletes, the coaches, and the parents is in constant motion. First, the
coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each
assessment is more accurate and reliable.
At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon
Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their
sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective
assessment of each athlete.
The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love
of sport, communications, leadership qualities, handling pressure, confidence levels, athleticism,
reaction time, mental maturity, role acceptance, team chemistry, being a hard worker, and receptivity

How do my athletes conduct themselves in practice after a win or lose? What effort do they produce in
the last quarter of play? What about in the last quarter or inning and the score is close? How about
when the team is ahead by a large margin? What about when the team is losing? Do they still give
their best effort with a total focus on the moment to conduct the process? If there is a difference
between how they are playing based on the scoreboard, then the athletes are focused too much on the
outcome versus the process. How are the athlete s grades in academics? Do they have goals and
interests outside of sports? Is your team like a family living in harmony or is there conflict among the

I Am A Safe Haven At Your Hands
Imagine having a safe haven at your hands, any time of the day. It is 2013, and I am in seventh grade.
I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy Project, and
decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my face, I find out
that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help you deal with an
eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all of this information
and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that changed my life forever.
I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name was
Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both hadn t
gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming our lives, but
speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people. Their names were
Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help they needed yet. I saw
blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I could. I felt like I was drowning
and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people. Even though there was a disclaimer
that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting help, that is what so many people did.
Trying to help someone who wouldn t get professional help is the type of thing

World Order Research Paper
The world order, in general, refers to the economic, political or social state of affairs prevailing in the
world at a given time and the corresponding effect this has on the different relationships countries
have among each other. In this essay, I will argue that the world order is not in fact changing and that
we are not witnessing a power shift from the West to the rest of the world. To prove this, I will analyse
in terms of hard and soft power how the West is still the more dominant party. Firstly, I will compare
the military and economic power of the US and China and come to the conclusion that the US is the
more dominant power. Next, I will demonstrate how in terms of foreign policy and political power the
US commands more soft power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It could, therefore, be argued that these increased political tensions may cause the US to lose key allies
and in turn help China become the more favoured country. However, in recent times, China has proven
to be arrogant, aggressive and rude when it comes to executing its foreign policy. Many countries,
including Japan and India, claim to find it increasingly challenging to cooperate with China and this
has done nothing but push said countries towards the US and cemented the US s global power.
Therefore, it is clear that even in terms of soft power, the US scores much higher than China and as a
result there will be no shift in power which re emphasizes the fact that the world order is not changing.
In conclusion, I have argued that the world order is not changing. In order to prove this, I have first
established that in terms of hard power (militarily and economically) the US is the more dominant
power and as a result there appears to be no power shift. Furthermore, I have shown that even in terms
of soft power (using foreign aid and foreign policy) the US still scores ahead of China, once again
indicating no signs of a power

Realism And The Struggles Of Women
Realism and the Struggles of Women
Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites
(Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most
evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of
detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand, naturalism
focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902). Authors that
concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within their stories, it
becomes clear on which issues they are bringing to life. Chopin and Gilman discuss the harsh reality
of women during their time in, The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wall paper. Alternatively, these
authors were byproducts for women s rights, as well as realism.
Since the dawn of mankind, women are traditionally recognized as the less dominant sex. History has
shown that women are against this notion and have been seen fighting for equal rights and freedom.
Since the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, also known as the 19th Amendment, women
have proven themselves to be just as capable as men. But before there was a push on equal rights for
women, authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries had no representation. Authors such as Kate

blood/blood product, chemotherapy drug and propofol infusion. Among the eight nurses no one able

JAPANESE STRATEGIC FAILURES IN THE SPRING OF 1942 Essay
After successfully executing operations in the Southeast and the Southwest Pacific by the spring of
1942, what should Japan have done next?
I can run wild for six months ... after that, I have no expectation of success.
Unconfirmed quotation attributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander in Chief Japanese
Combined Fleet.
Setting the stage Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is believed to have foretold of the suffering that was to
befall Japan, and in fact was said to have argued heavily against waking a sleeping giant. Did
Yamamoto recognize the shortcomings of Japan s war strategy even before the first shots were fired?

Even in the years leading up to the war, Japan s military believed in the superiority of their technology
and personnel. For instance, even when Japanese naval leaders correctly perceived the shift of carrier
based aircraft becoming the predominant offensive capability, they made the error of believing that
American naval air would never be a worthy opponent. 2 pg. 359
Once success is tasted, the possibility of failure becomes less believable. The Japanese were able to
move so swiftly in the Pacific in the first 6 months of war that they seemingly believed that they could
continue uncontested indefinitely. Once again, as in their early victories in the Russo Japanese War
over three decades earlier, Japan possessed in the stronger hand at the outset of conflict, because they
were the initiators the conflict and had the capability to plan for all of the moves they would make at
the outset. Their opponents in both wars were initially left with no choice but to only be able to react
to Japanese attacks, and in only limited fashion were the opponents able to turn the tables and force
the Japanese to react. An example of being able to turn the tables was the April 1942 Doolittle raid,
which forced the Japanese to change their operational plan to one of requiring the destruction of the
U.S. carrier fleet. The fact

Art After The Great War
Art after The Great War The Great War was the first of its kind. Never before had combat been
conducted on such a global scale. The technological advancements resulting from the onset of
Industrialism allowed weapons and supplies to be mass produced. When the dust finally settled, the
death toll eclipsed 16 million, and another 20 million were wounded. Dada and Surrealism originated
as artistic reactions to the colossal destruction experienced during World War I. Dada radical and poet,
Tristan Tzara, confessed, the beginnings of Dada were not the beginnings of art, but of disgust (MoMa
Dada). Largely, this was disgust to the atrocities and suffering of war. However, it was also disgust
towards the bourgeoisie, political corruption, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marcel Duchamp is widely considered one of the most influential Dada artists. His works frequently
included the use of ready mades. Ready mades are pre fabricated items that the artist personally deems
as art. For example, a chair, or table could potentially be a ready made. One of Duchamp s most
famous ready mades is called Fountain. This piece is a previously used urinal, with the name R. Mutt
1917 written in black on the side. The installation is a classic example of Dada art, in that it does not
make sense. It is art because it is anti art. There is no logic, and there is no reason behind it. It is art
because the artist decided it was art. It simply exists. Francis Picabia is another prominent Dada artist.
In 1919, he created a diagram of how a supposed Dada alarm clock works. The dada movement aimed
to shake the world of modern art up. Art was considered boring and mundane. Dada was a noisy alarm
that woke up modern art from merely aesthetic slumber (Elderfield). Picabia s piece was supposed to
represent how it changed. The flow of current was actually the flow of change of modern art. While
Dada was intended to be a rebellious and purposeful response to conventional and traditional thinking
in society, its successor Surrealism resulted from the desire to explore the unconscious mind. Also, the
movement aimed to upset the conventions of reality. Surrealism started as a literary movement that
utilized a technique called automatism.

Examples Of Byronic Hero In Jane Eyre
Byronic Heros were first introduced in Lord Byron s writing and have since then been utilized in
many different writings. In the novel Jane Eyre (1847), Charlotte Bronte creates a character that
symbolizes a Byronic Hero. Nevertheless, Mr. Rochester is considered a Byronic Hero due to certain
characteristics he has, however, this is only to an extent, as he lacks some qualities of a Byronic Hero.
He is central to the theme of Jane Eyre because he, like many others in in the novel, are searching for
a place to belong and find self identity.
Throughout the novel, it is asserted that Mr. Rochester owns the characteristics of Isolation/Wander
and Rejects Social Norms that a Byronic Hero holds. Mr. Rochester is isolated from society and exiled
by the upper class but only partially, due to his large sum of wealth. Although Rochester did not exile
himself by choice, he is considered peculiar by the other prosperous townsfolk for rejecting social
norms which causes him to be isolated. Bronte states this cause and effect chain through one of her
quotes in the novel, Come Jane come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rochester is an important character because he is lost and can not find himself or his place in the
world. He is portrayed as a Byronic Hero with his character qualities even with the lack of a few. He is
considered a Byronic Hero for his unconventional way of living that rejects social norms and causes
everyone to isolate him and cause him to wander, leaving him moody and temperamental which also
causes him to be rebellious and commit unnamed sexual crimes throughout the novel. Although
Rochester does lack the quality of superior intellect, the abundance of the other qualities make it so
that he is indeed considered a Byronic Hero. All these qualities of a Byronic Hero are somehow
connected and Charlotte Bronte does an incredible job with the cause and effect as well as a normal
cycle of the different behaviors to make Rochester a Byronic

Analysis Of The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
Certain decisions and events in life make people choose different paths that often do not connect with
the way things work around them. They follow these paths because they believe that it is justified. In
the novel, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham explains a variety of paths that could be considered as
rebellious. Uncle Axel rebels against the expectations that is put on him in his society, Anne abandons
her inborn ability and the group of telepaths, while Gordon revolts against the established power of
Waknuk. All three of the characters are in opposition to the higher power in a society. Uncle Axel is

In the speech and language section students need to ask meaning of words. This determines whether or
not the child will be involved in the learning process in a classroom setting. The student must describe
pictures and experiences. They must use appropriate verb tenses and grammar. This will ensure a core
of knowledge for the kindergarten curriculum. Also, the student must recognize simple jokes, riddles,
and absurdities. (Gisler and Eberts). The student s gross motor coordination should also be an
important factor in determining the child s readiness for kindergarten. They must be able to walk
downstairs using alternate feet, and hop on one foot; this is to check the child s balance and ability to
walk. They must jump along a six foot line with both feet. The student needs to be able to walk scissor
steps across a line. Last, but not least, student must be able to begin to skip alternating feet. These
evaluations are done in a few states nationwide. These evaluations do take place in certain districts in
the state of Mississippi and are administered by properly trained educators. This needs to become a
nationwide standard. (Williams) The next part of the evaluation should include fine motor
coordination including using scissors to cut a straight line. It seems like an easy task but as a
kindergarten teacher witnessing it first hand everyday; it is hard for students to complete this task.

Comparison Between Island Of Inventions And The Pearl
The time and work you put into a dream that has no chance of coming true is time truly wasted, the
time could be used towards other things. According to The Island of Inventions and The Pearl , no
matter how hard or how much work and time you put into a dream you desperately want to come true
it has a chance of not happening. There will always be a person or group people who tell you your

Budget Cuts And Intermediate Units
Budget cuts and Intermediate Units
As the nation falls on hard economic times, all aspects of society are affected, including education.
School districts are faced with decreased funding from federal and state resources and an increase in
the cost of salaries and benefits. This is causing deficits that, if left unchecked can adversely affect the
educational process and ultimately have a negative impact on students and society. School Districts
have increased expectations toward accountability and performance with diminishing resources. They
are expected to do more with less. The Maintenance of Effort requirement in IDEA 34 CFR §300.203
puts limits on how a LEA determines ways to address their budget deficits. Funding formulas ... Show

If a student is in need, this need does not change just because funding has decreased. The decline in
federal monies supporting IDEA regulations, 40% federal funding when the law was crafted to the
current contribution of 16.5%, (Shah, 2014) leave the state and local governments picking up the
deficits to maintain effort. This law can create barriers if the effort being maintained is fruitless.
Districts are continually looking for ways to overcome these barriers. These alternative approaches
seek to turn the budgetary challenge into an education improvement opportunity by unlocking
resources so they can be used differently and by re orienting the system around effectiveness and
efficiency (Petrilli Roza, 2011) One such alternative approach is the belief that intervening with a
student before identification of being in need of services can decrease expenditures for special
education services. IDEA 2004 part B regulations permit an LEA to use not more than 15% of these
funds on Early Intervening Services. This allocation comes with strict guidelines on how and for
whom the funds can be spent and these expenditures must be accurately reported. (Munson, 2014)
Districts have begun to implement ways to decrease referrals through early identification of those
students who may have challenges, addressing the challenges early on and avoiding the costly path of
special

The Government And Its Effects On The Minority Report By...
The government plays a major role in dystopic stories and novels, and as these stories start to unfold,
one can see the flaws in which how government works and how if effects the rest of society. In the
Minority Report, written by Philip K. Dick, the mechanisms of the government s systems begins to
show different flaws when surveillance is use to determine the pre crime of major crimes, and what
happens to their citizens once a verdict is reached. Any type of Government surveillance can do more
harm than good, due to the fact they invade the privacy of the people, in some cases resulting in giving
innocent people unfair and unlawful punishments, and also because it can fail to protect and create an
aspect of fear among their citizens.
In The Minority Report, Philip K. Dick creates a government that can make an arrest with the
assumption that their suspect is guilty, without taking into consideration that there was a minority
report, which is the chance that their suspect is innocent. The people of this society had begun to see
how this system is corrupt, and the coming to the point of how, If no arrests were made, there would
still have been no crimes committed. As people see the chances of innocent citizens being arrested for

Massachusetts in the first place was because the people of Massachusetts were very rebellious and
have had many violent resistances against the British already. The secret orders that Gage issued were
hardly a secret and some colonials knew about this movement a week before the British moved out.

John Bateman, a British soldier who was captured by the colonists said that he heard a command to
fire given to the Regulars, and that none of the colonists fired at the Regulars(3). This completely goes
against the British evidence which clearly says that they did not give the command to fire and were
giving orders to not fire. Also, since he was captured by the colonists, he obviously wants to say
something that pleases them since they are his audience. That makes his evidence unreliable since he
could have made that up to please the colonists who had captured him. Next up is Sylvanus Wood who
was a commonwealth of Massachusetts and gave a sworn testimony on June 17, 1826. He Said that

Wood said that The British ordered their troops to fire, as well as him saying that one of the colonists
did in fact fire against the Regulars. This contradicts the fact that Bateman said that none of the
colonists fired at the Regulars while Wood is saying that at least one colonists did fire upon the
Regulars. It also seems a bit unreliable since Wood s testimony was made almost 50 years later after

Introduction In August 1984, Morris Mini Mainframe Computer Company in New Jersey was looking
for the most desirable financing alternative for Morris de Minas Ltda, its Brazilian affiliate, in the
working capital needs of 82,650 million cruzeiros or US $39,320,000; at the exchange rate of 2,102
cruzeiros per US dollar. David Albuquerque, the vice president of finance for the Latin American

However, the economy recovered rapidly during 1968 to 1973 with averaging over 10 percent per
annum. The GDP also increased at a rate above 5 percent per annum between 1974 and 1980, except
for 1978 (see Exhibit 2). However, Brazil had incurred an extremely high level of indebtedness due to
the support of this massive development program. The high interest rates on dollar funds and the
unwillingness of foreign lenders to advance additional loans caused a deep economic recession in
Brazil. Interest rates directly affect the credit market (loans) because higher interest rates make
borrowing more costly. As a result, Brazilian government who aimed to balance the payment had to
ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for funds.

Similarities Between Bacterial Infections And Viral Fevers
Disease has become the most common threat to mankind in the past 20 years, with scientists believing
that with the world becoming more familiar with both unnatural and natural disasters that disease will
only rise. (Jasparro.C, Johnson Freese.J, 2014) (WHO, 2014). It can be categorized into two main
species; bacterial infections and viral fevers. The two genera pose as the largest risks to humanity due
to both having the ability to be contracted through various types of transmission and cannot be treated
without serious and specified medical aid. (Messenger, Ali. M, Barnes, Amber. N, Gray, Gregory C,
2014). This review will discuss a number of studies specifically in the genetic composition of both
diseases and how each attacks the body, the approaches involved in what makes Ebola not only
diverse from bacterial infections, though other types of diseases in general, and will briefly discuss
what the similarities between bacterial infections and viral fevers are.
The Ebola virus is one of few viruses labelled into the haemorrhagic fever Filoviridae and is classified
as an RNA viral fever. Consequently, word filo originates from the Latin meaning threadlike which
structurally explains the physical appearance. (Weissenhorn, W. Dessen. A Calder, L. Harrison, S.
Skehel, Wiley, D. C. Molecular, 1999). Due to the highly pathogenic nature of the virus, the
Filoviridae is associated with two main species; the Marburg like virus and the Ebola like virus. The

Organizational and Change Management Models
Models of Organizational Change Introduction The world is experiencing unprecedented changes in
the structure and operation of organizations. This has increased the challenges that confront
organizations. New competition from unexpected places is a huge challenge. So are the cultural issues
that come with a diverse, opinionated, and often far flung workforce. The need for fast acting,
effective, sustained organizational change will continue to increase. In fact, it will increase even more
rapidly than it is now. The flattening of the world through globalization has sent market forces in new
directions. Organizations must react to this increasingly chaotic market swiftly and effectively. The
McKinsey 7 S Model and Lewin s three step model are two of the most influential models of
organizational change in the business world. The McKinsey 7 S model emphasizes the role of
structural factors in organizational change, while Lewin s three step model is rooted in behavioral
factors. Thesis: The McKinsey 7 S model is grounded in questionable research methods and an
excessive focus on structural factors. Lewin s three step model is more incisive and relevant because it
is rooted in principles of human behavior. Background McKinsey s 7 S Model In the book, In Search
of Excellence, Peters and Water identified eight common features of excellent organizations, which
they defined as organizations which have achieved sustained profitability and innovation. These
features were: A

Description Of Wendouree Beach
Wendouree Beach Guys! Grab your togs, sunnies, towels and frisbees. We re all going to the beach!
Thats right, Ballarat may be getting its very own Beach around Lake Wendouree this summer. The
welcome news has come about after the City of Ballarat s Council revealed a proposal to build a pop
up beach near the eastern side of Lake Wendouree. Ballarat Councillor Samantha Mclntosh is hoping
that the attraction will encourage residents to remain in the city over the scorching summer months. As
many locals travel to the coastal parts of Victoria or even further to be refreshed in the beautiful, blue
ocean. One of the goals is attracting people to Ballarat and retaining the people that are already here.
commented Councillor Mclntosh. The miniature beach is only just one of several pop up installments
currently in the works that will revealed in the upcoming weeks. Including the return of last years
extremely popular Ferris wheel , further tantalizing the locals and tourists to swing on down and check
out what the city has to offer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Canada s Public Pension System
Canada s public pension system consists of a combination of federally and provincially sponsored
programs:
1. The Old Age Security program which provides Canadians with a pension at age 65 if they satisfy
certain residence requirements.
2. The Canada/Quebec Pension Plan which provides Canadian workers and their families with partial
replacement of earnings in the case of retirement, disability or death.
3. The Provincial Income Supplement Programs which provide their low income residents with an
income supplement to the Old Age Security benefits.
4. The Veterans Affairs Canada Program which provides qualified veterans with retirement, disability,

Between 1965 and 1969, the age of eligibility went down gradually from 70 to 65. In the 1970s, the
government started to index the pension payments to the consumer price index, and to provide
supplemental benefits such as the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance, and the Allowance
for the Survivor to low income pensioners.
In the late 1980s, after a prolonged period of inflation and economic stagnation, the government began
to see the pension system as costly and started to levy a special tax called recovery tax on OAS
pensions to reduce and ultimately eliminate the OAS pension for people whose annual income
exceeded a certain level.
Today, the benefits of the program include:
1) The OAS pension
2) The Guaranteed Income Supplement
3) The Allowance
4) The Allowance for Survivor.
The program is funded entirely by the general revenues of the Government of Canada, and provides a
basic level of support to those with no other sources of retirement income. In 2014, the total
expenditure of the program was 2.3% of GDP, with 35 billion paid in OAS pension and 10 billion in
Guaranteed Income Supplement to 5.5 million seniors.
Service Canada is the administrator for the OSA program. See Exhibit I more information.

The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants
The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants In 2005 the Center of Disease Control and Prevention s
(CDC s) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) tracked Americans using
antidepressants for three years. The study concluded in 2008 that more than 1 in 10 Americans ages 12
and older have used an antidepressant drug. This study comes in the wake of a heated debate in the
media about the effectiveness of antidepressants treating depression. Last year, antidepressants were
the second most commonly prescribed medication, right behind drugs directed to lower cholesterol.
With so many people in the United States relying on these drugs, it is easy to question if they are just
expensive, overused placebos. However, the issue is far more complicated than that. Treating
depression requires many challenging components, antidepressants are only one them. Each person
responds to antidepressants differently, which means that one drug capable of curing everyone does
not exist. Antidepressants have proven to be ineffective for patients with mild to moderate symptoms,
and what s more, these drugs that nobody has proven to be completely effective come with some very
serious side effects. At the very least, it s fair to say that medication alone usually is not enough.
Treating depression requires therapy and lifestyle changes not medication. Most mental health experts
agree that when depression is severe enough to impact your ability to function in life, antidepressants
are

Australia s Film And Television Industry
Australia s film and television industry has experienced drastic changes since the rise of national
cinema. Leading the world film industry, Australia was home to the first film studio and feature film at
the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906) toured
England from 1908 as the longest film ever made, popularising a new genre of bushranger movies and
epitomising the Ned Kelly legend as a significant aspect in Australian cultural identity (Juddery,
2008). The beginning of Australia s film industry built itself on bushranger films, with the focus being
local audiences rather than foreign, as stated by Judder. However, power struggles within the industry
and banning of the bushranger genre saw to the quick demise of the film industry in 1912. Another
aspect contributing to the demise is the emergence of competition with Britain and the US releasing
two feature films each to Australia s eight, later decreasing to three against the US 212 in 1914. Soon
thereafter, the industry was dominated by foreign productions. This is evidenced in the 1994
documentary Celluloid Heroes, which states that during one week in 1959, 1500 fine dramatic actors
appeared on Melbourne television, and only 5 Australians , resulting in the 1960 Postmaster General
Charles Davidson to implement local content requirements, beginning with TV stations required to
broadcast 40 per cent Australian content every 28 days with four hours in peak time, which was

The low point of the story occurs when Jackson goes to a bar and buys everyone there shots of
whiskey with the money he won from the scratch off ticket; he doesn t know the people at the bar but
says that Indians like to belong, so we all pretended to be cousins (Alexie). It is at this moment that
Jackson hits bottom and it appears that he is not going to complete his quest. He is now at the stage of
the Hero s Journey where he must survive a succession of trials (Campbell 81) and undertake for
himself the perilous journey into the darkness by descending intentionally or unintentionally, into the
crooked lanes of his own spiritual labyrinth (84). It seems almost as if Jackson cannot control himself,

The words pawn and redeem have strong connotative meanings. A definition for pawn can be a person
that is taken advantage of and manipulated; this relates to the situation of Native Americans that
Alexie writes about in his poems, novels, and short stories. Within this story, Jackson makes reference
to the relationship between white America and Native Americans like him. Redeem can mean the act
of making something that is bad good again, or the atonement for mistakes or errors made in the past.
As mentioned before, Campbell said that once the hero returns from his journey, he is atoned. By

Comparing Nineteen Eighty-Four and Utopia
Parallels in Nineteen Eighty Four and Utopia
Literature is a mirror of life. In order to reflect their views on the problems in society, many authors of
fiction, including Sir Thomas More of Utopia and George Orwell of Nineteen Eighty Four, use
parallels in character, setting, government, and society to link their works to the real world.
Characters are the appendages of a literary work, without well rounded characters, a novel is not
complete. In many situations, authors use certain distinguishing features of a well known figure in
society to shape the character in their works. These realistic characters are the work s link to the
outside world. In the book Utopia, Thomas More presents himself as a character the ... Show more

The London presented in 1984 is a ruin with the reminders of constant warfare. There are half torn
buildings everywhere, and people live in horrid conditions, lacking in a steady electricity supply,
rations, and running water. The London Orwell portrays is for the most part the naturalistically
presented city during the Second World War and the years immediately afterward (Brown 92). In
1948, merely three years after the end of the Second World War, London was a torn down city as a
result of years of endless bombing and warfare. Perhaps Orwell saw this fact and wanted to include
the dreadfulness of warfare in his novel.
Warfare, consequently, is the wrongdoing of the government. As Thomas Paine once wrote,
Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one. To
reflect the political ideas of themselves, authors often incorporate into their works a style of
government that dominates in the story.
In More s Utopia, the government is a democracy, where the citizens elect the syphogrant of their
district. The syphogrants are comparable to the Members of Parliament who represent the public in
England. The syphogrants then elect two hundred tranibors , a higher level of authority, and the
tranibors elect the prince, the mayor of a city. The representatives of higher positions such as the
tranibors and the prince, however,

Evaluation Of The Police Department
The goal of discipline is to produce desirable behavior. This function can be accomplished by
encouraging appropriate behavior and punishing inappropriate or unacceptable behavior. (More
Miller, 2014) As we can see in the case study of the Astonville Police Department there were some
mistakes made as far as supervision goes. Some of the problems discussed could have been avoided
had sound judgement and supervision been accounted for. Too many times officers are left
unsupervised which can lead to an array of problems for the officers and the department as we saw in
this case. This stems from the top supervisors all the way down to the street officers. The Astonville
Police Department seems to be a great place to work and seems to have a ... Show more content on

Their situation went unwatched or supervised and lead to some severe problems. Problems that could
be detrimental to the police department and their policies. Looking at the above reference scenario, we
can say that Sergeant Williams did not take the appropriate actions to protect everyone involved.
Sergeant Williams already knew that FTO Tibbetts was seen as a ladies man within the department.
This should have been a red flag for the Sergeant as he himself viewed Officer Roberts as an attractive
young woman . The sergeant in this case thought that the officer would be able to handle FTO Tibbetts
advances and be a professional. I m sure he also thought that FTO Tibbetts would be professional.
This, however, was not the case. Sergeant Williams did not monitor the training that was going on and
did not see a problem until it was already too late. Knowing what he did in the beginning, Sgt.
Williams should have assigned Officer Roberts to another FTO. Sergeant Williams should have seen
the signs of a possible romantic relationship going on between Officer Roberts and FTO Tibbetts.
Officer Roberts received high marks for her evaluations, even after she was cleared and released on
her own she would rely solely on FTO Tibbetts for advice and back up, rumors were going around the
department about the two being seen kissing, and he himself saw them in a heated argument. All of
these were opportunities for Sergeant

Spastic Diplegia Research Paper
Haley Hereld
Spastic Diplegia
Introduction Spastic Diplegia can briefly be described as a form of Cerebral Palsy that affects the
lower extremities. It is a neurological condition that appears early in life. I chose to do my research
over this condition because of a very special little girl in my life named Brenna. Right before Brenna
turned three years old she was officially diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia. This was a diagnosis I had
never heard of so when I began researching and found that Spastic Diplegia was a type of Cerebral
Palsy I was confused because Brenna does not portray the characteristics of other Cerebral Palsy
patients I have witnessed before. I have, since then, learned that there are different types of Cerebral

A person with this diagnosis will see a variety of health care providers throughout their life. Some of
these may be Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Neurologists. Physical Therapists will
help each patient to learn how to be as functional as possible with their condition. Many patients will
have to walk with an assistive device or even wear a leg brace. Gait training is very important for
patients with Spastic Diplegia. Patients that are diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia can have complete
paralysis or muscle weakness in both lower extremities. This often results in asymmetries on the right
or left lower extremity. Therefore, when a person with Spastic Diplegia walks they will repeat
movements irregularly, and this can lead to them developing secondary disabilities. 6(p1) A person
with Spastic Diplegia can expect to see a Physical Therapist on and off for their life due to the fact that
physical therapy can help them in so many different ways. Some doctors are prescribing certain
medications, such as muscle relaxers, to help with spastic muscles or even giving their patients Botox
injections in the tight muscles. This is a form of treatment that Brenna is now undergoing. The Botox
shot is injected into the tight muscles and is supposed to help these muscles be able to relax. The
words Cerebral Palsy and Spastic Diplegia can be very scary when they are used to diagnose

  • 3. Solomon Scale Model Essay In my model, assessment of athletes, the coaches, and the parents is in constant motion. First, the coach and consultant have to establish a trustworthy relationship and then as time progresses, each assessment is more accurate and reliable. At the beginning, middle, and end of the session, I suggest the coach and consultant use the Solomon Expectancy Sources Scale to assess the athletes. Along with the knowledge they know from their sound relationship with each athlete, the coach and consultant can make a more accurate subjective assessment of each athlete. The Solomon Scale is an assessment that allows one to asses 30 attributes (such as self discipline, love of sport, communications, leadership qualities, handling pressure, confidence levels, athleticism, reaction time, mental maturity, role acceptance, team chemistry, being a hard worker, and receptivity to coaching, to name ... • 4. I Am A Safe Haven At Your Hands Imagine having a safe haven at your hands, any time of the day. It is 2013, and I am in seventh grade. I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy Project, and decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my face, I find out that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help you deal with an eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all of this information and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that changed my life forever. I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name was Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both hadn t gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming our lives, but speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people. Their names were Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help they needed yet. I saw blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I could. I felt like I was drowning and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people. Even though there was a disclaimer that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting help, that is what so many people did. Trying to help someone who wouldn t get professional help is the type of thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. World Order Research Paper The world order, in general, refers to the economic, political or social state of affairs prevailing in the world at a given time and the corresponding effect this has on the different relationships countries have among each other. In this essay, I will argue that the world order is not in fact changing and that we are not witnessing a power shift from the West to the rest of the world. To prove this, I will analyse in terms of hard and soft power how the West is still the more dominant party. Firstly, I will compare the military and economic power of the US and China and come to the conclusion that the US is the more dominant power. Next, I will demonstrate how in terms of foreign policy and political power the US commands more soft power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It could, therefore, be argued that these increased political tensions may cause the US to lose key allies and in turn help China become the more favoured country. However, in recent times, China has proven to be arrogant, aggressive and rude when it comes to executing its foreign policy. Many countries, including Japan and India, claim to find it increasingly challenging to cooperate with China and this has done nothing but push said countries towards the US and cemented the US s global power. Therefore, it is clear that even in terms of soft power, the US scores much higher than China and as a result there will be no shift in power which re emphasizes the fact that the world order is not changing. In conclusion, I have argued that the world order is not changing. In order to prove this, I have first established that in terms of hard power (militarily and economically) the US is the more dominant power and as a result there appears to be no power shift. Furthermore, I have shown that even in terms of soft power (using foreign aid and foreign policy) the US still scores ahead of China, once again indicating no signs of a power ... • 6. Realism And The Struggles Of Women Realism and the Struggles of Women Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites (Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand, naturalism focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902). Authors that concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within their stories, it becomes clear on which issues they are bringing to life. Chopin and Gilman discuss the harsh reality of women during their time in, The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wall paper. Alternatively, these authors were byproducts for women s rights, as well as realism. Since the dawn of mankind, women are traditionally recognized as the less dominant sex. History has shown that women are against this notion and have been seen fighting for equal rights and freedom. Since the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, also known as the 19th Amendment, women have proven themselves to be just as capable as men. But before there was a push on equal rights for women, authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries had no representation. Authors such as Kate Chopin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

JAPANESE STRATEGIC FAILURES IN THE SPRING OF 1942 Essay After successfully executing operations in the Southeast and the Southwest Pacific by the spring of 1942, what should Japan have done next? I can run wild for six months ... after that, I have no expectation of success. Unconfirmed quotation attributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander in Chief Japanese Combined Fleet. Setting the stage Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is believed to have foretold of the suffering that was to befall Japan, and in fact was said to have argued heavily against waking a sleeping giant. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even in the years leading up to the war, Japan s military believed in the superiority of their technology and personnel. For instance, even when Japanese naval leaders correctly perceived the shift of carrier based aircraft becoming the predominant offensive capability, they made the error of believing that American naval air would never be a worthy opponent. 2 pg. 359 Once success is tasted, the possibility of failure becomes less believable. The Japanese were able to move so swiftly in the Pacific in the first 6 months of war that they seemingly believed that they could continue uncontested indefinitely. Once again, as in their early victories in the Russo Japanese War over three decades earlier, Japan possessed in the stronger hand at the outset of conflict, because they were the initiators the conflict and had the capability to plan for all of the moves they would make at the outset. Their opponents in both wars were initially left with no choice but to only be able to react to Japanese attacks, and in only limited fashion were the opponents able to turn the tables and force the Japanese to react. An example of being able to turn the tables was the April 1942 Doolittle raid, which forced the Japanese to change their operational plan to one of requiring the destruction of the U.S. carrier fleet. • 9. Art After The Great War Art after The Great War The Great War was the first of its kind. Never before had combat been conducted on such a global scale. The technological advancements resulting from the onset of Industrialism allowed weapons and supplies to be mass produced. When the dust finally settled, the death toll eclipsed 16 million, and another 20 million were wounded. Dada and Surrealism originated as artistic reactions to the colossal destruction experienced during World War I. Dada radical and poet, Tristan Tzara, confessed, the beginnings of Dada were not the beginnings of art, but of disgust (MoMa Dada). Largely, this was disgust to the atrocities and suffering of war. However, it was also disgust towards the bourgeoisie, political corruption, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marcel Duchamp is widely considered one of the most influential Dada artists. His works frequently included the use of ready mades. Ready mades are pre fabricated items that the artist personally deems as art. For example, a chair, or table could potentially be a ready made. One of Duchamp s most famous ready mades is called Fountain. This piece is a previously used urinal, with the name R. Mutt 1917 written in black on the side. The installation is a classic example of Dada art, in that it does not make sense. It is art because it is anti art. There is no logic, and there is no reason behind it. It is art because the artist decided it was art. It simply exists. Francis Picabia is another prominent Dada artist. In 1919, he created a diagram of how a supposed Dada alarm clock works. The dada movement aimed to shake the world of modern art up. Art was considered boring and mundane. Dada was a noisy alarm that woke up modern art from merely aesthetic slumber (Elderfield). Picabia s piece was supposed to represent how it changed. The flow of current was actually the flow of change of modern art. While Dada was intended to be a rebellious and purposeful response to conventional and traditional thinking in society, its successor Surrealism resulted from the desire to explore the unconscious mind. Also, the movement aimed to upset the conventions of reality. Surrealism started as a literary movement that utilized a technique called automatism. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Examples Of Byronic Hero In Jane Eyre Byronic Heros were first introduced in Lord Byron s writing and have since then been utilized in many different writings. In the novel Jane Eyre (1847), Charlotte Bronte creates a character that symbolizes a Byronic Hero. Nevertheless, Mr. Rochester is considered a Byronic Hero due to certain characteristics he has, however, this is only to an extent, as he lacks some qualities of a Byronic Hero. He is central to the theme of Jane Eyre because he, like many others in in the novel, are searching for a place to belong and find self identity. Throughout the novel, it is asserted that Mr. Rochester owns the characteristics of Isolation/Wander and Rejects Social Norms that a Byronic Hero holds. Mr. Rochester is isolated from society and exiled by the upper class but only partially, due to his large sum of wealth. Although Rochester did not exile himself by choice, he is considered peculiar by the other prosperous townsfolk for rejecting social norms which causes him to be isolated. Although Rochester does lack the quality of superior intellect, the abundance of the other qualities make it so that he is indeed considered a Byronic Hero. Uncle Axel rebels against the expectations that is put on him in his society, Anne abandons her inborn ability and the group of telepaths, while Gordon revolts against the established power of Waknuk. Anne believes that [she] knows what [she] intends to do: the rest of [them] don t know what [they] intend to do because none of them have been in love (Wyndham 92). In life people often choose to make themselves satisfied without considering how it might affect others. Anne chooses to marry Alan, which put her at risk of Alan finding out about the telepathic. In the speech and language section students need to ask meaning of words. This determines whether or not the child will be involved in the learning process in a classroom setting. The student must describe pictures and experiences. They must use appropriate verb tenses and grammar. This will ensure a core of knowledge for the kindergarten curriculum. Also, the student must recognize simple jokes, riddles, and absurdities. (Gisler and Eberts). The student s gross motor coordination should also be an important factor in determining the child s readiness for kindergarten. They must be able to walk downstairs using alternate feet, and hop on one foot; this is to check the child s balance and ability to walk. They must jump along a six foot line with both feet. The student needs to be able to walk scissor steps across a line. Last, but not least, student must be able to begin to skip alternating feet. These evaluations are done in a few states nationwide. These evaluations do take place in certain districts in the state of Mississippi and are administered by properly trained educators. This needs to become a nationwide standard. (Williams) The next part of the evaluation should include fine motor coordination including using scissors to cut a straight line. It seems like an easy task but as a kindergarten teacher witnessing it first hand everyday; it is hard for students to complete this task. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

School districts are faced with decreased funding from federal and state resources and an increase in the cost of salaries and benefits. This is causing deficits that, if left unchecked can adversely affect the educational process and ultimately have a negative impact on students and society. School Districts have increased expectations toward accountability and performance with diminishing resources. They are expected to do more with less. If a student is in need, this need does not change just because funding has decreased. The decline in federal monies supporting IDEA regulations, 40% federal funding when the law was crafted to the current contribution of 16.5%, (Shah, 2014) leave the state and local governments picking up the deficits to maintain effort. This law can create barriers if the effort being maintained is fruitless. Districts are continually looking for ways to overcome these barriers. These alternative approaches seek to turn the budgetary challenge into an education improvement opportunity by unlocking resources so they can be used differently and by re orienting the system around effectiveness and efficiency (Petrilli Roza, 2011) One such alternative approach is the belief that intervening with a student before identification of being in need of services can decrease expenditures for special education services. IDEA 2004 part B regulations permit an LEA to use not more than 15% of these funds on Early Intervening Services. This allocation comes with strict guidelines on how and for whom the funds can be spent and these expenditures must be accurately reported. (Munson, 2014) Districts have begun to implement ways to decrease referrals through early identification of those students who may have challenges, addressing the challenges early on and avoiding the costly path of special ... It defined as swelling or thickening of the eye s macula, which results from blood vessels in the retina leaking fluids.2 The retina and macula work together to allow for sharp central vision.1 When individuals with Diabetes Mellitus have poorly controlled hyperglycemia, the blood vessels in the eye are weakened and can leak fluid.1 As a result, fluid is able to permeate into the retina and macula making these areas swell, which ultimately results in loss of vision.1 A consequence of diabetic macular edema involves the activation ... The government plays a major role in dystopic stories and novels, and as these stories start to unfold, one can see the flaws in which how government works and how if effects the rest of society. In the Minority Report, written by Philip K. Dick, the mechanisms of the government s systems begins to show different flaws when surveillance is use to determine the pre crime of major crimes, and what happens to their citizens once a verdict is reached. Any type of Government surveillance can do more harm than good, due to the fact they invade the privacy of the people, in some cases resulting in giving innocent people unfair and unlawful punishments, and also because it can fail to protect and create an aspect of fear among their citizens. In The Minority Report, Philip K. Dick creates a government that can make an arrest with the assumption that their suspect is guilty, without taking into consideration that there was a minority report, which is the chance that their suspect is innocent. The people of this society had begun to see how this system is corrupt, and the coming to the point of how, If no arrests were made, there would still have been no crimes committed. As people see the chances of innocent citizens being arrested for no crime, they begin to think, how many murders would actually take place, and how many people would be falsely accused. The reason the British were in Massachusetts in the first place was because the people of Massachusetts were very rebellious and have had many violent resistances against the British already. John Bateman, a British soldier who was captured by the colonists said that he heard a command to fire given to the Regulars, and that none of the colonists fired at the Regulars(3). This completely goes against the British evidence which clearly says that they did not give the command to fire and were giving orders to not fire. Also, since he was captured by the colonists, he obviously wants to say something that pleases them since they are his audience. That makes his evidence unreliable since he could have made that up to please the colonists who had captured him. Next up is Sylvanus Wood who was a commonwealth of Massachusetts and gave a sworn testimony on June 17, 1826. (Jasparro.C, Johnson Freese.J, 2014) (WHO, 2014). It can be categorized into two main species; bacterial infections and viral fevers. The two genera pose as the largest risks to humanity due to both having the ability to be contracted through various types of transmission and cannot be treated without serious and specified medical aid. (Messenger, Ali. M, Barnes, Amber. N, Gray, Gregory C, 2014). This review will discuss a number of studies specifically in the genetic composition of both diseases and how each attacks the body, the approaches involved in what makes Ebola not only diverse from bacterial infections, though other types of diseases in general, and will briefly discuss what the similarities between bacterial infections and viral fevers are. The Ebola virus is one of few viruses labelled into the haemorrhagic fever Filoviridae and is classified as an RNA viral fever. Consequently, word filo originates from the Latin meaning threadlike which structurally explains the physical appearance. (Weissenhorn, W. Dessen. A Calder, L. Harrison, S. Skehel, Wiley, D. C. So are the cultural issues that come with a diverse, opinionated, and often far flung workforce. The need for fast acting, effective, sustained organizational change will continue to increase. In fact, it will increase even more rapidly than it is now. The flattening of the world through globalization has sent market forces in new directions. Organizations must react to this increasingly chaotic market swiftly and effectively. The McKinsey 7 S Model and Lewin s three step model are two of the most influential models of organizational change in the business world. The McKinsey 7 S model emphasizes the role of structural factors in organizational change, while Lewin s three step model is rooted in behavioral factors. Thesis: The McKinsey 7 S model is grounded in questionable research methods and an excessive focus on structural factors. Lewin s three step model is more incisive and relevant because it is rooted in principles of human behavior. The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants The Depressing Truth About Antidepressants In 2005 the Center of Disease Control and Prevention s (CDC s) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) tracked Americans using antidepressants for three years. The study concluded in 2008 that more than 1 in 10 Americans ages 12 and older have used an antidepressant drug. This study comes in the wake of a heated debate in the media about the effectiveness of antidepressants treating depression. Last year, antidepressants were the second most commonly prescribed medication, right behind drugs directed to lower cholesterol. With so many people in the United States relying on these drugs, it is easy to question if they are just expensive, overused placebos. However, the issue is far more complicated than that. Treating depression requires many challenging components, antidepressants are only one them. Each person responds to antidepressants differently, which means that one drug capable of curing everyone does not exist. Antidepressants have proven to be ineffective for patients with mild to moderate symptoms, and what s more, these drugs that nobody has proven to be completely effective come with some very serious side effects. Leading the world film industry, Australia was home to the first film studio and feature film at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906) toured England from 1908 as the longest film ever made, popularising a new genre of bushranger movies and epitomising the Ned Kelly legend as a significant aspect in Australian cultural identity (Juddery, 2008). The beginning of Australia s film industry built itself on bushranger films, with the focus being local audiences rather than foreign, as stated by Judder. However, power struggles within the industry and banning of the bushranger genre saw to the quick demise of the film industry in 1912. Another aspect contributing to the demise is the emergence of competition with Britain and the US releasing two feature films each to Australia s eight, later decreasing to three against the US 212 in 1914. Soon thereafter, the industry was dominated by foreign productions. This is evidenced in the 1994 documentary Celluloid Heroes, which states that during one week in 1959, 1500 fine dramatic actors appeared on Melbourne television, and only 5 Australians , resulting in the 1960 Postmaster General Charles Davidson to implement local content requirements, beginning with TV stations required to broadcast 40 per cent Australian content every 28 days with four hours in peak time, which was ... In 1948, merely three years after the end of the Second World War, London was a torn down city as a result of years of endless bombing and warfare. Perhaps Orwell saw this fact and wanted to include the dreadfulness of warfare in his novel. Warfare, consequently, is the wrongdoing of the government.
