The Right And Freedom Of Vote
Democracy is a term that is common to all Canadians and many other global citizens around the
world. However, the right and freedom to vote in a government in which the general public chooses is
a concept that many people do not take full advantage of. One of the largest groups of citizens who
tend to not be politically involved are Canada s youth and young adults. Many ask why it is this
certain group that decides to distance themselves from the polling stations during election times.
Could it be the disinterest in voting? Could it be the participation in other non electoral outlets, such as
protest groups? One of the main reasons that has been discussed, whether it be in political science
classrooms or sitting around the dinner table, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best way to reach youth is through their main sources of entertainment and well being. Three
main areas that would be best to introduce politics to youth would be through the family, school
education and through social media. If these three outlets are properly utilized, the information that
youth voters understand about politics will hopefully encourage them to go out and vote on election
day. As youth get older, they look more to their peers for acceptance on many aspects of life
(SOURCE PSYCH BOOK). Although youth distance themselves from family as they get older, they
look to their parents and family for advice when they are younger. In order to strike interest in youth,
you must start early, in the years where families are still the most important entity in their lives.
Parents influence a child s core values from the day they are born. As children grow up, the end of
their days consist of family talks at dinner time and other family connections, when so much time is
spent around such influential sources, it should become the responsibility of parents to speak to their
children about politics; even to just make them aware of the basics. Parents are the main influence on
children, not only through values, but they teach through example (SOURCE RCMP). If a child is to
see their parents becoming politically involved and active in voting, it is possible that they will

Did Christianity Change Over Time
Christianity is far from what many might call a perfect and successful religion. Saying that it has been
completely accepted, unchanged, and resolute since the beginning of the A.D. times would be false.
Events like the murder of Christians within the gladiator games of the Roman Circus and the need to
create the Edict of Milan show this clearly. Not only this but it has changed over time, as shown with
the events of the Iconoclast Controversy between the Roman Orthodox and Catholic churches when
differences in what should be allowed within the Christian worship. Christianity is not a successful,
untouched religion. It was certainly not wholly welcomed at the time of Christ s birth , people have
been persecuted and treated terribly for having that as their religion, and not everyone has accepted it

Christianity began with the calling of Abraham and the founding of the Jewish nation. They eventually
found their way to Canaan, remaining there peacefully until the kingdom was split into two. They
soon later fell to the Assyrians. The Assyrians then in turn fall to the Babylonians, who are conquered
by Alexander the Great. They essentially follow Rome through its existence and go into the age of the
Byzantine Empire, the point in which Christians finally had a breakthrough and could start to practice
their religion free of worry about being killed for it. If none of these events were to have happened,
Christianity might not have had a chance to grow or start at all, even and it s massive influence upon
the world would be lost. Prior to the rise of Christians, the world had been a primarily polytheistic
place, and most wanted to keep it that way. This is one of the reasons that Christians faced so much
prosecution in the beginning. That is, until the Edict of Milan is created by Constantine

William Potter s Macbeth
Macbeth, a tragedy play written by Shakespeare, illustrates the damaging physical and psychological
effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. Harry Potter, a series of
fantasy, fiction novels written by J.K Rowling, chronicles the life of a young wizard, Harry Potter, a
chain adventure of his friends, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and
Wizardry. Despite the fact that these two books may seem completely unreliable, there are indeed,
certain connections in presence between one another. History and time has proven that from time to
time, the presence of witches, prophecies and violence in a fiction novel has always acted as the
essential success criteria. The general of aspect of a fiction, fantasy novel can be identified as to
entertain the readers, to reveal central message, and to propose a virtual, imagery, but vivid world of
wonder and magic towards the readers. Even though Macbeth and Harry Potter are categorized in two
different styles of literacy, they share similarities in terms of characters, themes, and symbols in a
variety of aspects; ultimately, the omnipresence of fantasy, magic and dichotomy is the reason why
both literatures are so wildly successful.
First and foremost, characters from both books have shared many similarities with one another. To
begin with, Macbeth and Ginny weasley are both plagued by self doubt, and because of this, they are
easily manipulated and influenced by the forces of others.

The Science Of The Earth Essay
Introduction
The science that is connected with planet earth encompasses geosciences or earth science among
others. Containing old histories, this is considered as a part of planetary science while it possesses
holistic and reductionist approaches in the science of the planet Earth. This discipline can cope with
lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere. Quantitative understanding has been developed by
the scientists to understand the ground systems with the tools by mathematics, physics, chronology,
biology, chemistry alike that help to know how the universe is evolved.
Deliberations
According to a news release from NASA, coronal mass ejections caused by geomagnetic storms have
been enhanced in strength; as from G1 to G5, they were rated G3 in 2012. The earth planet is
surrounded and by bubbles of magnetic fields while rapid changes in the earth magnetosphere were
witnessed due to activities that happened on sun that caused a geomagnetic storm. With earth s
magnetic fields, coronal mass ejections were mingled; as a result, the wind became mild in intensity
reported in the month of March in the corresponding year (Philips, 2009).
On the other hand, the geomagnetic storms have been intensified and enhanced in their frequency as
magnetic fields of coronal mass ejections indulges with that of the earth that causes change of
direction and leave more radiation and magnetic energy into the environment of the planet earth. Solar

Listeria Research Paper
Listeria is a genus of small, facultative anaerobic, Gram positive motile bacilli which infect many
types of animals and contaminates numerous foods, including vegetables, milk, chicken and beef. The
most important species of the genus, Listeria monocytogenes, is an important cause of foodborne
illness which disproportionately affects pregnant women and their newborns. Due to its high mortality
rate, ongoing efforts are needed to further reduce the incidence of listeriosis. Proper storage and
handling of refrigerated ready to eat foods can help reduce the risk of listeriosis; if the disease

freezing weather that drops below 10 degrees Fahrenheit for at least two weeks. Since we aren t likely

rapidly, by the end of the war aviation companies were making almost 50,000 planes a year. The jet
engine and pressurized cabin were developed which allowed planes to fly higher and faster. America
focused their attention on the development of fighters and bombers. Aircraft allowed troops to be

I recognize that I don t have the most professional look at this point in my life. Having a tattoo on my
left forearm and a side shave can be a hit or miss in the work field. Some in employers can view it as a
way to add character or diversity to their company. While others may turn their nose up at the sight
and immediately reject me on the spot. In this situation, jobs that involve psychology directly would
most likely not accept this look. I struggled with accepting this and attempted to hide my less
professional aspects. I washed my hair so that I could flip my part in an attempt to cover my side
shave. Even though it was hot in the gym, I still wore a sweater that covered my tattoo. These
precautions actually made me feel less confident and created more self conscious thoughts. I had to
constantly remember not to tuck my hair behind my ear or push my sleeves up my arm. Both of these
actions would result in exposing my unprofessional tattoo and hair. I also feared that I would become
noticeable sweaty because a room full of college students, interviewing for future jobs can heat up

the development of key component technologies. The determining factor in whether a car company
can compete in the international markets is whether they have the capacity to meet local consumer as

What Make An American Essay
Throughout history, many countries have had tyrannical, corrupt, control of its citizens, either through
religion or a long line of greedy ambitious rulers. America, the new world, has changed that. By
fighting for liberty and becoming independent from European powers, America showed its instinct
originality from the rest of the world. Together, each American citizen has their own right to
individuality, right to pursue anything they seem fit, and roots tying them into who they are. These are
what make an American. Freedom of speech, religion, possessions are all in the very first amendment
of the American Constitution stating Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech[.] Giving the
people the power to freely express who they are individually. Whether that be religion, education,

expectation, willingness to go further, to pursue whatever seems fit and motivated to learn and to

Ponyboy Character Analysis
Sometimes people judge a book by its cover. Ponyboy from The Outsiders was a person that was
judged by many people. He is in a gang, they call themselves the greasers. They are poorer than the
Socs and the middle class. When people see them they immediately think, dirty troublemakers but
they are more like a group of friends hanging out. They are like one big family and very few of them
from the gang actually start trouble. Being that Ponyboy is a greaser, people think that he is a
troublemaker and a bad person but that is not the case. Ponyboy is a unique young man that does not
start trouble and does not like fighting. He is also a very good friend. I can say that I am most like him
because I find that we have very many things in common when it comes to identity and personality.
He is a nice person who s smart in school and that is what sets him apart from the rest of his gang.
Although he may not think properly when he s out of school and it leads him to trouble, he still keeps
his good grades and respect towards others.
Ponyboy is a very good friend. He has a friend named Johnny who is also a greaser. Johnny is going
through so much throughout the story. He runs away from his home because he heard his mother and
father fighting like they always do. He goes to the park and he says, I can t take much more. I ll kill

Weber discusses that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating the
capitalistic spirit. In Chapter two, Weber targets the concept of capitalism, which tends to assume or
argue that its existence is inevitable, that it is fundamental to human nature, or reflects an important
step in a universal series of stages. Weber s account brings such claims into question. Corresponding

Settlers Vs. New England Colonies
Facing the New World
Entering a new territory filled with countless opportunities and possibilities came with prices to pay
and times of hardships for the pioneers from England. They quickly came to realize that the grass was
not always greener on the other side. They settled in different areas along the east coast, such as New
England, which included New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The
other settlers came ashore just south of New England called the Chesapeake region, which included
Virginia and Maryland. When comparing the two groups, they both had different and similar ways of
thinking and establishing life in this new and unfamiliar territory. Without a doubt, both experienced
obstacles that they were forced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since Virginia was a predominantly agricultural region, the social gap between wealthy and poor was
exponential. In Virginia, there were the wealthy farmers and the poor slaves. There were very few

of tobacco. Still lacking a substantial amount of females, the colony did not expand as fast as it
potentially could have.
New England lacked a significant social gap. Mostly everyone was middle class with the exception of
a very few. While New England was able to have some type of agriculture, they relied mostly on
industries such as shoemakers and blacksmiths and trade. Factors such as population and resources
allowed them to develop rapidly. This lead to large cities for this era and a healthy economy.
Ecological differences forced different economical strategies for the two groups of settlers to pursue.
However, the differences in them opened up a way of trade. Both New England and Virginia benefited

Subsistence Agriculture vs. Industrial-Style Animal Farming
Contrast subsistence agriculture and industrial style animal farming. Subsistence farming is the most
basic of farming methods where a small plot of land is cultivated by an individual, a family or a
community just to feed their hungry mouths. All the produce is consumed by the family and not
intended for sale outside. The experts believe that this kind of farming is almost primeval and needs to
change quickly to the industrialized mode all over the world, if abject poverty and famine are to be
eradicated. Several factors have worked against the success of implementation, and they are not only
technology related, but social, educational, economic, and political, as well. Many feminist voices
have however, preferred to support the existing method of subsistence farming for the harmony and
relationship that it fostered among the people, with an argument that human relationships, ecology and
togetherness are more important than wealth (Shiva, 1989). In this perspective, subsistence farming
does not contribute to economic growth or capital accumulation or even labor specialization. Since
funds are limited to buy chemical fertilizers, most produce are organic and genetically modified seeds
are never used here (Roosevelt, 2007, Wright, 2007). You will learn from history that subsistence
farming existed in Southeast Asia, Sub Saharan Africa, South and Central America. Over the years;
take the example of British colonized Kenya. Many subsistence farmers in Kenya where pushed

Ever since the beginning of time, love has played an enormous role among humans. Everyone feels a
need to love and to be loved. Some attempt to fill this yearning with activities and possessions that
will not satisfy with activities in which they should not participate and possessions they should not
own. In Andrew Marvell s poem, To His Coy Mistress, the speaker encounters an emotion some
would call love but fits better under the designation of lust for a woman. In contrast, the speaker of
Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, urges virgins to marry, to make a

While the lustful lover of Marvell s poem also bases his love on physical beauty, the speaker in
Herrick s poem neither condones nor condemns this societal standard, but simply acknowledges its
existence. Because he realizes beauty plays a huge role in society s standards for marriage, he urges
the virgins he addresses to go marry (14). He explains that they may for ever tarry if they do not marry
when youth and blood are warmer and they are in their prime (16,10,15). After all, who wants to
marry some gnarly old woman?
The speaker in Herrick s poem makes a reasonable request, urging virgins to marry. On the contrary,
the infatuated boyfriend in Marvell s poem makes an unreasonable request, even for today. In essence,
the speaker of Marvell s poem asks his girlfriend to lie with him. Even if God deemed fornication an
acceptable practice, the speaker shows no true love for his girlfriend. The Bible explains, Love is
patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act
unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered
(1 Corinthians 13:4 5). The speaker shows absolutely no patience and looks out only for himself,
clearly indicating he has no love, as 1 Corinthians describes it. Jesus

Human Relationship And Genetic Development And The...
The development of the chick involves fertilization, division and growth of living cells, and
segregation of cells into groups of special function (tissues). Once the egg is laid, some embryonic
development has happened and then usually stops until proper cell conditions are met for the
incubation to resume. At the beginning of the stages, the cells are alike, but as the embryo develops,
cells are specialized. After the start of incubation, a thick pointed layer of cells become visible caudal
or tail end of the embryo. From the primal start, both the head and backbone of the embryo develop.
The digestive tract forms and the blood islands appear. Later on, the blood islands would develop into
a vascular and blood system. The second day of incubation, the blood islands link and begin to form a
vascular system, while the heart is formed elsewhere. By the 44th hour of incubation, both the
vascular system and heart join, and the heart starts beating. By the end of the third day of incubation,
the beak begins forming. And limb buds for the wings and legs are seen. The chicks body turns 90°
and turns it s left side on the yolk. Both the head and tail get closer so the embryo forms a C shape.

Saint Benedict Rule
The Rules of Saint Benedict were for the first time monks. The significant of the Rule of Saint
Benedict is for a person to regard the scriptures as sacred and to spend time with God in not only
reading the scripture but studying the scriptures in a manner of hiding them in the heart as well as
obeying the Word of God. The Rule of Saint Benedict also taught discipline in the way of shutting out
distractions and the sound of the world to hear from God and meditate on understanding the scriptures.
Sometimes the monks stilled away to the mountains, and other times they went to the monastery.
When a leader or mentor gives instructions to the beginner and other monks, they should follow
without grumbling in fear of God. (14 Fry) The Bible is the

Decision Making Skills in Business Environment Essay
Decision making can be defined as a mental process of making choices among possible alternatives to
make a practical decision (Reason, 1990; Wang, 2000). From selecting what items to buy in a
supermarket to deciding which television channel to watch, we often have to make decisions in
different conditions, particularly when we are facing uncertainties and trade offs. Admittedly, decision
making skills have become increasing important when it comes to the highly competitive and ever
changing business world. In view of that, a variety of models have been developed by the scholars
from all around the world in an attempt to conceptualise the decision making process and maximise its
potential output. In this paper, we will look at the role of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, agreement between different stakeholders is the deciding factor of an ultimate decision in
Carnegie Model. Although a consensus has been reached with the agreement of different stakeholders
and parties, some critics pointed out that this will lead to a greater problem which they term it as
satisficing . Satisficing means an organisation accepts a satisfactory rather than optimal approach to
maximise the performance. In layman s term, it means the final decision made by the coalition is just
satisfying the stakeholders sitting on the board but that solution may not be the best one to optimise
the performance of an organisation. Secondly, managers are concerned with immediate problem and
short run solutions or what Cyert and March (1963) termed as problemistic search . Problemistic
search simply means the managers look around the environment to look around for a quick solution to
solve the task as they don t expect a perfect solution when it is ill structured. To sum up the points,
Daft (2010) opined that the managers normally look for a satisfactory solution that first emerges as
they are constrained by several factors mentioned in the last paragraph. The Carnegie Model is
particularly useful when it comes to problem identification stage. One recent example would be the

Carbon Fiber As A Chemical Compound
Carbon fibre is a chemical compound that is composed of a long chain of carbon atoms bonded to
each other using covalent bonds. The covalent bonds are formed under extreme conditions of heat and
pressure and may combine a carbon compound with a piece of plastic or a polymer. The carbon occurs
in very thin strands that have a diameter smaller than that of a human hair though it is credited to
having the five times the tensile strength of steel and two times its stiffness although it the carbon
compound has only two thirds the weight of steel. In modern times, carbon fibre is commercially
synthesised in industries as it has a wide variety of applications in tasks requiring strength while at the
same time minimising weight such as in aeroplane body panels.
Fibre glass, on the other hand, is made up of melted glass that is blown, elongated or extruded to for a
string like material. Fibreglass has an advantage over carbon in that the synthetic manufacture of
fibreglass is easier as it does not require high temperatures to be produced. The material, however, has
nearly similar physical properties to carbon regarding strength, weight and modulus of elasticity.
In this laboratory report, we will investigate the tensile properties of the above two materials.
Introduction
The aim of the lab session was to study the properties of composite materials by testing the materials
in tension. The test composite materials to be tested comprised of carbon and fibreglass and

Several years ago, I was talking to my late grandpa who had gone to see Hall of Famer, Ken Griffey

and I have something in common. I have been playing baseball all my life just like you. We are about
the same age and we even come from the same hometown. The only difference between us is that you
are a celebrated All Star ballplayer, and I despite decades of hard work have never been able to play

see that baseball is no longer bringing you pleasure or satisfaction. Our time here on Earth is too short
and deserves to be enjoyed to the fullest. I am now giving you permission to go find something else to
do with your life that brings you joy. Go find something new that you love to do and that brings you
peace and serenity. Spend time with family and friends, find new hobbies, go on vacation, forgive
your enemies, but stop playing baseball because it seems to be slowly killing you from the inside out.
After a long silence Ken Griffey grinned and said, However I will tell you this. If a few years go by

David Harvey, in his work The Condition of Postmodernity , argues that ... [T]he only secure thing
about modernity is its insecurity, its penchant, even, for totalizing chaos. In essence, Harvey believes
that the idea of modernity is a hypocritical idealism in which present day aspects of life are reflective
of underlying conflicting attributes expressed by the general population. In present day, our lives are
irrefutably impacted by technological advances, and as a result of the presence of such technologies

When looked at in a modern perspective, in most cases the concept of originality is eluded because we

What Is Amelia Earhart Essay
Being human, we all have fears. A fear is something that scares us or intimidates us. We all also have
dreams or goals. The number one thing that keeps someone from their dream or goal is their fear. If I
took an evening to spend with a single person of my choice, I would choose Amelia Earhart. The first
time I ever heard about Amelia Earhart was in the third grade, from my teacher Mrs. Grothuis. All of
third grade year we studied different pilots or contributors to aviation such as Charles Lindbergh, the
Wright brothers, and my favorite, Amelia Earhart. Not only was she a pilot but she also served as a
nurse in World War 1, and was an author of two books. Earhart also set numerous aviation records for
men and women. In addition to being a glorified pilot, Earhart was a strong advocate for women s
rights. I highly doubt that Amelia Earhart accomplished all these things without a few fears of her
own.
Amelia Earhart was a women with a heart. In her early twenties Earhart was prompted to become a
nurse at the sight of wounded soldiers returning from war. When working in a military hospital
Earhart was around airplanes constantly. Eventually Earhart received her first ride and fell in love with

Henry Ford s Automobile It s Effects on American Society
Over the course of the 20th century, the automobile has gone from being an expensive toy of the rich,
to being the standard for passenger transport in most developed countries around the world (Urry).
Not unlike the effects of the introduction of Railways into society, automobiles have changed social
interactions, employment patterns, goods distribution and the basic face of urban society. The
automobile itself is a rather controversial issue. Supporters of the automobile claim that it is a marvel

Ford believed that by paying people more, he would enable Ford employees to afford the cars they
were producing and be good for the economy. This new wage plan was offered to men over the age of
22 who had worked for Ford for at least 6 months, and whose lifestyles were approved by Ford s

Another defining characteristic of Ford Motor Company is Henry Ford s adamant opposition to labor

The Indian Removal Act
Native American History In the early 1830 s, President Andrew Jackson, authorized the Indian
Removal Act. The Cherokee Indians and many other Indian Tribes were forcefully removed from their
homeland in a brutal and inhumane manner. During this hard journey, many Cherokee Indians died,
this journey was called The Trail of Tears which was the forced relocation of the Native American,
and these tragedies resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed
under the requirements of the Indian Removal Act.
The Indian Removal Act, of 1830, provided funds for uprooting Five Civilized Tribes, the Cherokee,
Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole with a population around 60,000 living in North Carolina,
Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi (Foner 393). Throughout the whole movement of the Indians,
many of them died during the journey while others died as they were left behind to try and fight for
their land. In a case involving Indians in 1823, Johnson vs. M Intosh, the court had claimed that
Indians were not in fact owners of their land, but merely had a right to occupancy (Foner 394). The
chief justice John Marshall claimed that from the early colonial era, Indians had lived as nomads and
hunters, not farmers. In Cherokee Nation vs. Georgia, 1831, Marshall described the Indians as Wards
of the federal government. They deserved paternal regard and protection but they lacked the standing
as citizens that would allow the Supreme Court to enforce their

Analysis Of Dave Barry s Guys Vs. Men
Within his piece, Guys Vs. Men, Dave Barry articulates the different perspectives available on
viewing males. Throughout his piece he utilizes a satirical tone to showcase this idea. The audience
that Dave Barry is attempting to convey his message to is the general public. I believe this to be an
appropriate assessment as the level of language employed by Dave Barry, throughout his piece, lacks
complexity. His use of satire also helps to identify the audience. This is because the use of humour can
be seen as a way to capture the attention of a reader quickly in hopes that the reader continues, and
ultimately finishes the article. Using these as evidence I can conclude the audience being targeted is
the general public. Dave Barry s thesis, which can be located in paragraph one, stating that there s
another way to look at males: not as aggressive macho dominators; not as sensitive, liberated, hugging
drummers; but as guys. Within his thesis, Dave Barry expresses how the stereotypes that define a male
are not the only points of view of a male. He conveys that there are other perspectives available on
how males can be viewed, and one of them is simply to view males as guys. In his body paragraphs,
Dave Barry proceeds to explain the various characteristics that make up, and are exhibited by, guys.

Vladimir Putin Chapter 1 Summary

of the Putin era. Throughout his time in the KGB and as first deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, he was
rarely ever seen as a man of high honor and prestige. His positions included advancing the agendas of
those around him, but he rarely ever aimed to advance his own career. Despite this lack of ambition,
Putin s admirable personality traits and various political connections led to his accelerated rise to
power. Upon being officially inaugurated on May 7, 2000, Putin s boldness and authority acted as a
saving grace for Russia and its people. Throughout the 1990s, the state of Russia s economy, politics,
and society as a whole was in constant turmoil and disarray. President Yeltsin campaigned on the basis
of drastic economic change that would transform Russia from a bleak totalitarian past to a bright and
promising democratic future. In order to fight the stagflation caused by the Soviet s command
economy, Yeltsin enacted measures of shock therapy to slowly reconstruct the failing economy. These
measures included removing government price controls on numerous products, lifting wage controls
on various jobs, cutting military spending to spare the budget deficit, and handing out vouchers to

Hess and Zimmermann mention that conventional categories have blurred and there s demands for
new political and aesthetic responses in transnational cinema (John Hess 2006). These transnational
films I believe would be growing significantly in the film industry as a part of film history.
As seen in most third transnational films from Asia countries, popular cultural products criss cross
cultural borders everyday therefore these cultures remain circulating in transnational cinema (Aquilia
2006). The power of transnational cinema could not be ignored as global screen reflects a
transnational cultural exchange (Aquilia 2006). My clip shows that those sections of films we studied
consisting crossover boundaries of actors and actresses, overseas settings and different cultures
portrayed. Athique also argues that non Indians and people with little Indian history background found
enjoyment in the mixture of Bombay films (Athique 2008). Thus, transnational cinema in both ways
depicted the cultural identity audiences can relate to, as well as transnational culture exchange among
the globe.
Transnational cinema is a developing concept. It changes alongside the film industry. The ever
increasing of Diasporas and ever developing cultural identity help shape transnational cinema.
Transnational cinema is an emergence of cultural phenomenon and it develops though time. The clip I

The Myths of Vietnam Essay
Contending versions of the Vietnam War and the antiwar movement began to develop even before the
war ended. The hawks version, then and now, holds that the war was winnable, but the press,
micromanaging civilian game theorists in the Pentagon, and antiwar hippies lost it. . . . The doves
version, contrarily, remains that the war was unwise and unwinnable no matter what strategy was
employed or how much firepower was used. . . Both of these versions of the war and the antiwar
movement as they have come down to us are better termed myths than versions of history because
they function less as explanations of reality than as new justifications of old positions and the
emotional investments that attended them (Garfinkle, 7).

Much of the post war controversy over Vietnam can be summarized in four myths .
The first myth is that the micormanaging civilians in Washington lost an otherwise winnable conflict.
A second myth deals with the degree to which the radical, countercultural anti war movement forced
President Nixon to end the war. A third is the Rambo myth which claims that American prisoners of

may still have been imprisoned into the 1990s. And lastly, we will examine the myth that the US
government would never knowingly harm its soldiers.

Allen Ginsberg s Poetry
Allen Ginsberg s work carries strong the themes of the Beat Generation, a rebellious and
melodramatic extravaganza. He grew up protesting World War II, then continued to fill his life with
drugs and rebellion. He wrote much of his work during the Vietnam War, a highly opposed war that
caused much distress especially in the young male demographic because of the draft. While often
containing anti war and anti government rhetoric, his poems usually focus on amorous connections
and the troubles of his time. Ravaged by drugs, depression, and debt, the Beat Generation sees many
of its core themes in the work of Allen Ginsberg.

One particular line in the first section of Howl is my favorite because of its stark transparency: with

half of this line are beautiful and tragically melodramatic. Finishing with carnality forces the reader to
lower their shock and remember that sexuality really is a part of the big beautiful picture. Lines like
these sparked the actual sexual revolution, the change in thinking during the 1960 s, ten years after
Ginsberg wrote Howl . Hand in hand with Ginsberg s free sexuality comes his open bisexuality. He
has a complete disregard of the social norm, writing in his poem Message : man / or woman I don t

Two of the lead buyers are located in North American; Canada and Mexico with Asia following the
trend consisting of The People s Republic of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Adding to this cultural
mixture is the United Kingdom and India accounting for over 50% of the international real estate

Add the enhancement of a panoramic city views or shoreline seascapes and the market values
instinctively attract interested international buyers for purchase.
Even more interesting, according to the NAR report are the four states influencing this buying trend of
international real estate buyers. It s no surprise the coasts are among the leaders for the sale of
properties. Florida and California are the frontrunners with Texas in hot pursuit. The one state standing
out for its distinction of no coastline, but attractive for real estate buying is Arizona known for its
trendy living. The state boasts its diverse community split between a younger workforce prepared for
first time home purchases or upgraders with growing families. Retirees in Arizona are looking to take
advantage of both milieus downsizing for less maintenance and upgrading with more luxury not
necessarily more space.
So what s the future look like for the U.S. real estate market as the world continues to buy in, while
our own residents are buying up? Competition has definitely increased for the sale on high end
properties as a result of international buyers. Economists are concerned with the market volatility as a
result of these home purchases causing real estate prices to soar within selective neighborhoods. The
concern is affordability for the next generation of U.S. home buyers creating an exclusive gate into
this elite real estate community for local

are places of significant cultural or natural heritage as described by the World Heritage Convention
established in 1972. In 1981, Cuba recognized the convention and since then, 9 sites on the Island
have been included on the list of UNESCO Heritage Sites. While mostly known as a sun destination
and for world class all inclusive resorts, Cuba s history and culture are just as impressive as the
pristine beaches and turquoise waters. While in Cuba, a side trip to one of these nine UNESCO sites

Eco tourists flock to the region to take in the incredible scenery and thriving flora and fauna specific
to this region of Cuba. The increase in tourism to the area has resulted in the discovery of new hiking

UNESCO site in 1999 for its natural beauty and traditions.
Plantations near Santiago de Cuba were an essential part of Cuba s economy in the 19th and early 20th
centuries due to the cultivation of coffee. The remnants of the plantations in the region showcase the

The First Phase Of The Second World War
Throughout the first phase of the Second World War in Europe, Germany sought to avoid a long war.
Its strategy was to win a decisive victory over their opponents with a series of short campaigns.
Germany quickly took control of most of Europe and was victorious for more than two years with the
Blitzkrieg (lightning war). This new military tactics required the concentration of a powerful set of
offensive forces (tanks, aircrafts and artillery) on a narrow front. By practicing a breach in the enemy
defenses, these forces allowed the armored divisions to quickly penetrate and maneuver freely behind
enemy lines, disrupting their defenses. The German Air Force prevented the enemy to resupply, to
redeploy its forces efficiently and to send reinforcements to close the breaches that occurred in his
front. The German forces were thus able to encircle the enemy and force him to surrender. In June
1941, the German forces invaded the Soviet Union. The blitzkrieg seemed at first to be a success.
Soviet forces retreated over 900 km to the gates of Moscow, suffering huge losses. However, it was on
the Soviet territory that the blitzkrieg showed its limits. In this context, the amelioration of the allied
forces readiness after the two first years of the war, and the vulnerability of the blitzkrieg to logistics
and qualified manpower, reduced greatly its success after 1941. The adaptation of new defensive
tactics by the allies has greatly contributed to the failure of the blitzkrieg.

Siddons ; S Androgynous Rosalind Costume In Shakespeare s...
Because Siddons s androgynous Rosalind costume was so strongly criticized, it is somewhat
surprising that the actress chose to play a role as iconic as Hamlet in an outfit that at least one
spectator found to be ambiguously gendered. Nonetheless, Siddons perhaps had reason to believe that
her Hamlet would be better received than her performances as Rosalind. It was clearly a role that she
performed with some frequency early in her career, and she may have felt that it was better suited for
her talents as a primarily tragic actress than a comic breeches role in which Jordan could easily
outshine her. Furthermore, while Siddons s original Rosalind costume differed significantly from the
standard set by other actresses, her Dublin Hamlet costume may not have been that different from
what other actors wore to play Hamlet in the early Romantic era. In fact, the costume depicted in
Hamilton s sketch also resembles the costume shown in Sir Thomas Lawrence s famous painting of
Kemble as Hamlet. According to most stage histories of the play, Kemble was the first actor to wear
period dress while playing Hamlet rather than the modern court dress that Garrick and other actors had
worn before him. Alan R. Young explains,
Kemble broke with tradition and wore a costume suggestive of Elizabethan dress, the so called
Vandyke costume, that included [...] a sleeved doublet, trunk hose, tights, and a lace collar, with a
baldric to support a sword. To this he added for crucial scenes the

Graphs are an important way to communicate and visualize trends and patterns that are otherwise
difficult to identify and gain valuable insight into a given relation or problem in this way. Information
when given in the form of tables can be easily graphed and be used to make educated predictions and
decisions. A graph, like an equation, is the language that best helps recognize the relationship, which
exists between the variables involved in a situation. Graphs, like languages, have specific rules, some
of which date back to ancient civilizations. It is believed that the coordinate system was first used in
ancient times for urban planning, surveying, and astronomy in the old Egyptian and Babylonian
civilizations. For thousands of years, the rectangular coordinate system was used, not exactly the way
we know it today. It was not until the 1600s, when it was rediscovered by the mathematicians of the
time that geometric problems could be solved by using algebraic equations and vice versa. Rene
Descartes (1596 1650) and Pierre Fermat (1601 1665) are credited with being the first mathematicians
in taking such an approach. This approach evolved over time into the Cartesian coordinate system, as
it is known today.

  • 2. The Right And Freedom Of Vote Democracy is a term that is common to all Canadians and many other global citizens around the world. However, the right and freedom to vote in a government in which the general public chooses is a concept that many people do not take full advantage of. One of the largest groups of citizens who tend to not be politically involved are Canada s youth and young adults. Many ask why it is this certain group that decides to distance themselves from the polling stations during election times. Could it be the disinterest in voting? Could it be the participation in other non electoral outlets, such as protest groups? One of the main reasons that has been discussed, whether it be in political science classrooms or sitting around the dinner table, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best way to reach youth is through their main sources of entertainment and well being. Three main areas that would be best to introduce politics to youth would be through the family, school education and through social media. If these three outlets are properly utilized, the information that youth voters understand about politics will hopefully encourage them to go out and vote on election day. As youth get older, they look more to their peers for acceptance on many aspects of life (SOURCE PSYCH BOOK). Although youth distance themselves from family as they get older, they look to their parents and family for advice when they are younger. In order to strike interest in youth, you must start early, in the years where families are still the most important entity in their lives. Parents influence a child s core values from the day they are born. As children grow up, the end of their days consist of family talks at dinner time and other family connections, when so much time is spent around such influential sources, it should become the responsibility of parents to speak to their children about politics; even to just make them aware of the basics. Parents are the main influence on children, not only through values, but they teach through example (SOURCE RCMP). If a child is to see their parents becoming politically involved and active in voting, it is possible that they will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Did Christianity Change Over Time Christianity is far from what many might call a perfect and successful religion. Saying that it has been completely accepted, unchanged, and resolute since the beginning of the A.D. times would be false. Events like the murder of Christians within the gladiator games of the Roman Circus and the need to create the Edict of Milan show this clearly. Not only this but it has changed over time, as shown with the events of the Iconoclast Controversy between the Roman Orthodox and Catholic churches when differences in what should be allowed within the Christian worship. Christianity is not a successful, untouched religion. It was certainly not wholly welcomed at the time of Christ s birth , people have been persecuted and treated terribly for having that as their religion, and not everyone has accepted it as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christianity began with the calling of Abraham and the founding of the Jewish nation. They eventually found their way to Canaan, remaining there peacefully until the kingdom was split into two. They soon later fell to the Assyrians. The Assyrians then in turn fall to the Babylonians, who are conquered by Alexander the Great. They essentially follow Rome through its existence and go into the age of the Byzantine Empire, the point in which Christians finally had a breakthrough and could start to practice their religion free of worry about being killed for it. If none of these events were to have happened, Christianity might not have had a chance to grow or start at all, even and it s massive influence upon the world would be lost. Prior to the rise of Christians, the world had been a primarily polytheistic place, and most wanted to keep it that way. This is one of the reasons that Christians faced so much prosecution in the beginning. That is, until the Edict of Milan is created by Constantine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. William Potter s Macbeth Macbeth, a tragedy play written by Shakespeare, illustrates the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. Harry Potter, a series of fantasy, fiction novels written by J.K Rowling, chronicles the life of a young wizard, Harry Potter, a chain adventure of his friends, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite the fact that these two books may seem completely unreliable, there are indeed, certain connections in presence between one another. History and time has proven that from time to time, the presence of witches, prophecies and violence in a fiction novel has always acted as the essential success criteria. The general of aspect of a fiction, fantasy novel can be identified as to entertain the readers, to reveal central message, and to propose a virtual, imagery, but vivid world of wonder and magic towards the readers. Even though Macbeth and Harry Potter are categorized in two different styles of literacy, they share similarities in terms of characters, themes, and symbols in a variety of aspects; ultimately, the omnipresence of fantasy, magic and dichotomy is the reason why both literatures are so wildly successful. First and foremost, characters from both books have shared many similarities with one another. To begin with, Macbeth and Ginny weasley are both plagued by self doubt, and because of this, they are easily manipulated and influenced by the forces of others. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the end of World War I both sides had aircraft that was capable of flying to altitudes of 25,000 feet and speeds of 155 miles per hour. This was an amazing feat for wartime pressures for development. After the war commercial air service was started and planes were being used for the transportation mail. The United States Postal Service supported the development and Donald Douglas and Boeing started production of planes for transportation of people and goods. I recognize that I don t have the most professional look at this point in my life. Having a tattoo on my left forearm and a side shave can be a hit or miss in the work field. Some in employers can view it as a way to add character or diversity to their company. While others may turn their nose up at the sight and immediately reject me on the spot. In this situation, jobs that involve psychology directly would most likely not accept this look. I struggled with accepting this and attempted to hide my less professional aspects. I washed my hair so that I could flip my part in an attempt to cover my side shave. Even though it was hot in the gym, I still wore a sweater that covered my tattoo. These precautions actually made me feel less confident and created more self conscious thoughts. I had to constantly remember not to tuck my hair behind my ear or push my sleeves up my arm. Both of these actions would result in exposing my unprofessional tattoo and hair. I also feared that I would become noticeable sweaty because a room full of college students, interviewing for future jobs can heat up even the best air conditioned room. • 19. Subsistence Agriculture vs. Industrial-Style Animal Farming Contrast subsistence agriculture and industrial style animal farming. Subsistence farming is the most basic of farming methods where a small plot of land is cultivated by an individual, a family or a community just to feed their hungry mouths. All the produce is consumed by the family and not intended for sale outside. The experts believe that this kind of farming is almost primeval and needs to change quickly to the industrialized mode all over the world, if abject poverty and famine are to be eradicated. Several factors have worked against the success of implementation, and they are not only technology related, but social, educational, economic, and political, as well. Many feminist voices have however, preferred to support the existing method of subsistence farming for the harmony and relationship that it fostered among the people, with an argument that human relationships, ecology and togetherness are more important than wealth (Shiva, 1989). In this perspective, subsistence farming does not contribute to economic growth or capital accumulation or even labor specialization. Since funds are limited to buy chemical fertilizers, most produce are organic and genetically modified seeds are never used here (Roosevelt, 2007, Wright, 2007). He explains that they may for ever tarry if they do not marry when youth and blood are warmer and they are in their prime (16,10,15). After all, who wants to marry some gnarly old woman? The speaker in Herrick s poem makes a reasonable request, urging virgins to marry. On the contrary, the infatuated boyfriend in Marvell s poem makes an unreasonable request, even for today. The development of the chick involves fertilization, division and growth of living cells, and segregation of cells into groups of special function (tissues). Once the egg is laid, some embryonic development has happened and then usually stops until proper cell conditions are met for the incubation to resume. At the beginning of the stages, the cells are alike, but as the embryo develops, cells are specialized. After the start of incubation, a thick pointed layer of cells become visible caudal or tail end of the embryo. From the primal start, both the head and backbone of the embryo develop. The digestive tract forms and the blood islands appear. Later on, the blood islands would develop into a vascular and blood system. The second day of incubation, the blood islands link and begin to form a vascular system, while the heart is formed elsewhere. By the 44th hour of incubation, both the vascular system and heart join, and the heart starts beating. By the end of the third day of incubation, the beak begins forming. Henry Ford s Automobile It s Effects on American Society Over the course of the 20th century, the automobile has gone from being an expensive toy of the rich, to being the standard for passenger transport in most developed countries around the world (Urry). Not unlike the effects of the introduction of Railways into society, automobiles have changed social interactions, employment patterns, goods distribution and the basic face of urban society. The automobile itself is a rather controversial issue. Supporters of the automobile claim that it is a marvel of technology that has brought about prosperity, while opponents aver it leads to urban planning that discourages walking and human interaction, uses non renewable fuels, generates ... The Cherokee Indians and many other Indian Tribes were forcefully removed from their homeland in a brutal and inhumane manner. During this hard journey, many Cherokee Indians died, this journey was called The Trail of Tears which was the forced relocation of the Native American, and these tragedies resulted from the enforcement of the Treaty of New Echota, an agreement signed under the requirements of the Indian Removal Act. The Indian Removal Act, of 1830, provided funds for uprooting Five Civilized Tribes, the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole with a population around 60,000 living in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi (Foner 393). Throughout the whole movement of the Indians, many of them died during the journey while others died as they were left behind to try and fight for their land. In a case involving Indians in 1823, Johnson vs. M Intosh, the court had claimed that Indians were not in fact owners of their land, but merely had a right to occupancy (Foner 394). The chief justice John Marshall claimed that from the early colonial era, Indians had lived as nomads and hunters, not farmers. Throughout his piece he utilizes a satirical tone to showcase this idea. The audience that Dave Barry is attempting to convey his message to is the general public. I believe this to be an appropriate assessment as the level of language employed by Dave Barry, throughout his piece, lacks complexity. His use of satire also helps to identify the audience. This is because the use of humour can be seen as a way to capture the attention of a reader quickly in hopes that the reader continues, and ultimately finishes the article. Using these as evidence I can conclude the audience being targeted is the general public. Dave Barry s thesis, which can be located in paragraph one, stating that there s another way to look at males: not as aggressive macho dominators; not as sensitive, liberated, hugging drummers; but as guys. Within his thesis, Dave Barry expresses how the stereotypes that define a male are not the only points of view of a male. He conveys that there are other perspectives available on how males can be viewed, and one of them is simply to view males as guys. In his body paragraphs, Dave Barry proceeds to explain the various characteristics that make up, and are exhibited by, guys. Throughout his time in the KGB and as first deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, he was rarely ever seen as a man of high honor and prestige. His positions included advancing the agendas of those around him, but he rarely ever aimed to advance his own career. Despite this lack of ambition, Putin s admirable personality traits and various political connections led to his accelerated rise to power. Upon being officially inaugurated on May 7, 2000, Putin s boldness and authority acted as a saving grace for Russia and its people. Throughout the 1990s, the state of Russia s economy, politics, and society as a whole was in constant turmoil and disarray. President Yeltsin campaigned on the basis of drastic economic change that would transform Russia from a bleak totalitarian past to a bright and promising democratic future. In order to fight the stagflation caused by the Soviet s command economy, Yeltsin enacted measures of shock therapy to slowly reconstruct the failing economy. These measures included removing government price controls on numerous products, lifting wage controls on various jobs, cutting military spending to spare the budget deficit, and handing out vouchers to citizens in an effort to ... The doves version, contrarily, remains that the war was unwise and unwinnable no matter what strategy was employed or how much firepower was used. . . Both of these versions of the war and the antiwar movement as they have come down to us are better termed myths than versions of history because they function less as explanations of reality than as new justifications of old positions and the emotional investments that attended them (Garfinkle, 7). While the controversy over the war has often been reduced to simplistic pro war or anti war arguments as illustrated in the opening quotation, a more nuanced reading of post war literature shows many more areas of controversy. All of these controversies cross over from hawks to doves and back again. Much of the post war controversy over Vietnam can be summarized in four myths . The first myth is that the micormanaging civilians in Washington lost an otherwise winnable conflict. A second myth deals with the degree to which the radical, countercultural anti war movement forced President Nixon to end the war. A third is the Rambo myth which claims that American prisoners of war were kept in captivity in Southeast Asia after the cessation of American military involvement and may still have been imprisoned into the 1990s. • 47. The First Phase Of The Second World War Throughout the first phase of the Second World War in Europe, Germany sought to avoid a long war. Its strategy was to win a decisive victory over their opponents with a series of short campaigns. Germany quickly took control of most of Europe and was victorious for more than two years with the Blitzkrieg (lightning war). This new military tactics required the concentration of a powerful set of offensive forces (tanks, aircrafts and artillery) on a narrow front. By practicing a breach in the enemy defenses, these forces allowed the armored divisions to quickly penetrate and maneuver freely behind enemy lines, disrupting their defenses. The German Air Force prevented the enemy to resupply, to redeploy its forces efficiently and to send reinforcements to close the breaches that occurred in his front. The German forces were thus able to encircle the enemy and force him to surrender. In June 1941, the German forces invaded the Soviet Union. The blitzkrieg seemed at first to be a success. Soviet forces retreated over 900 km to the gates of Moscow, suffering huge losses. However, it was on the Soviet territory that the blitzkrieg showed its limits. In this context, the amelioration of the allied forces readiness after the two first years of the war, and the vulnerability of the blitzkrieg to logistics and qualified manpower, reduced greatly its success after 1941. The adaptation of new defensive tactics by the allies has greatly contributed to the failure of the blitzkrieg. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because Siddons s androgynous Rosalind costume was so strongly criticized, it is somewhat surprising that the actress chose to play a role as iconic as Hamlet in an outfit that at least one spectator found to be ambiguously gendered. Nonetheless, Siddons perhaps had reason to believe that her Hamlet would be better received than her performances as Rosalind. It was clearly a role that she performed with some frequency early in her career, and she may have felt that it was better suited for her talents as a primarily tragic actress than a comic breeches role in which Jordan could easily outshine her. Furthermore, while Siddons s original Rosalind costume differed significantly from the standard set by other actresses, her Dublin Hamlet costume may not have been that different from what other actors wore to play Hamlet in the early Romantic era. In fact, the costume depicted in Hamilton s sketch also resembles the costume shown in Sir Thomas Lawrence s famous painting of Kemble as Hamlet. According to most stage histories of the play, Kemble was the first actor to wear period dress while playing Hamlet rather than the modern court dress that Garrick and other actors had worn before him. Alan R.
