Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s
The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and technologies
that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of time the
foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth century began
with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of electricity in
Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery by Volta, and the
invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law several years later.
However, before that discovery was made Hans Christian Ørstead discovered electromagnetism,
which was then used by André Marie Amperè to show that magnetism ... Show more content on

Galvani noticed that when a metal scalpel was brought close one of the nerves in the frog that the frog
s leg would move. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the nerves of
the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric phenomenon.
He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the
nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was
brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta.
Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the
metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was
built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water
[10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal
electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial
electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point
Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. Just after Volta s greatest discovery and
before that of Ohm, Hans Christian Ørstead discovered magnetism. Ørstead conducted a series of
experiments that

Holmes Sheppard Case
Why does a trial get a retrial when the first trial served justice? Dr. Samuel Holmes Sheppard was
born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1923. He studied at Hanover College and Western Reserve University.
Sheppard pursued careers in medicine. He got married in 1945 to his high school girlfriend, Marilyn.
After a few years of their marriage, they returned back to Cleveland, Ohio. Until July 4, 1954, they
lived a charmed life in a wealthy neighbourhood. Then suddenly on July 4, 1954, Marilyn was found
dead in their bedroom. This case is known as one of the longest running and most sensationalized
court cases in the United States history because of the elements of doubt within the case. Dr. Sheppard
was convicted of the murder. In the first trial, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, prosecution didn t realize about phone calling his friend when Sheppard can check the pulse by
himself. Even though he is a doctor, why would he call his friend to check whether she died or not? It
doesn t matter what kind of doctor you are, all the doctors were trained the basic things such as
checking pulse. For me, I learned it when I was in 8th grade, so Sheppard should know it. This shows
that he knew she died, but he called his friend, so in case if gets in trouble, his friend s testimony can
save him. Secondly, neither the defense nor the prosecution brought up about his make up stories. In
the article by Larkin, B, from Speaking up for Marilyn in the 60 year old Sam Sheppard murder case
stated that when Sheppard was making alibis to walk away when he got arrested. However, in the
second trial, no one brought it up. When Sheppard was arrested he said that there was blushy haired
killed her. However, there wasn t any damaged in the house. Unfortunately, no one brought this up.
Thirdly, the defense counsel didn t let Sheppard to testify because Sheppard s Cool, pedantic style did
not make a good impressions with the 1954 trial. ( Linder, Law2) If the defense counsel allowed it
then the truth would have been out. Fourthly, the bloodstain on his pants, which shows that he when

Italian Lunch In School
Do you like doing well in school and having the necessary energy to get through the eight hour school
days? Do you like being able to go to class in the afternoon without your stomach growling, and being
able to stay focused? Well if you like those things, you better have some money!
A study by the New York Times came out in February of 2015, saying that just over half of all
students attending public schools in the United States are now eligable for free or reduced priced
lunches . What people don t often tell you, is what comes in this free or reduced priced lunch .
In this comparison above done by buzzfeed, they compare the US lunch in school to that of an Italian

Statement of Purpose for an Education at Full Sail...
Some may find that collage is the most suited of paths to take, many problems may exist, many
questions in need of answering. With Fordham University and Full Sail University is a way to reach
opportunities that may motivate, excel, and improve the future as a student, and as a working member
of society. Fordham University can be a very impressive offer with its many majors, goals, and
challenges that can be explored and viewed. Restrictions of certain G.P.A levels can be present and
reviewed by the administration of both the schools, as well as the A.C.T. and S.A.T scores. There are
in schools of Fordham and Full Sail University ways to break the walls of regulation by attending
various scholarships the college s offer, even the role that may have been placed in the community
oriented groups like F.C.C.L.A or even ILC can be very beneficial. The location of both Fordham
University and Full Sail University reside in heavy populated urban cities which may pose a problem
with for example prices as well as the likelihood of being accepted may diminish. Each pro and con of
the college s of Fordham and Full Sail will always exist with the questions awaiting to be answered,
by the goal students of the future wish to find in each school, and to understand the task they wish to
meet in there journey within.

Coca Plant Research Paper
The social and health implications of the coca plant production are widely known, however, its impact
on the environment are insufficiently acknowledged by many. This essay will explore the
environmental implications of cocaine production and the eradication process that takes place in the
Andean/Amazonian regions, particularly in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, where most of the world s
cocaine supply originate1.
Historically, coca leaves were chewed by the Andean people as a mild stimulant1. Cocaine is a
naturally occurring alkaloid1, derived from coca plant (Erythroxylum coca). Just like any other
stimulants, cocaine has a powerful effect on the central nervous system 1 causing sensations of
euphoria2 and is highly addictive. The money garnered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1987, Colombia only grew 10% of the global coca production (220 km2); in 2000 this percentage
increased to 74% (1633 km2)7. This boom in the cocaine production industry remarkably coincided
with the deforestation acceleration rate in the country7, suggesting that there must be a correlation
between the boom in the cocaine market, coca cultivation and deforestation. Figure 3 shows a result
from one such study conducted between 2002 to 2007 in Colombia.
Land needs to be cleared in the cultivation area to make way to sow coca plants9. Although it only
plays a minor role in deforestation, the fact that the illicit nature of the cultivation forces coca growers
to move to isolated, untouched areas harm the biodiversity and the animals who inhabit in the area that

An Analysis Of Shirley Jackson And The Lottery
Many people are following crowds all over the world. Some crowds are not the best to follow yet
people still follow them. Following a crowd can be misleading and can also l have consequences. The
Lottery by Shirley Jackson takes place in a small village on June 27th, with about 300 people. The
characters in the short story are Bobby, Harry Jones, Dickie Delacroix, Mr. Summers, and Mr.
Hutchinson. The main idea of First They Came... by Martin Niemoller, is standing up for what is right
isn t always the easiest path. I believe that following a crowd, and standing up for what is right is not
always the right path or easiest path.
To begin with, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is different than First They Came... by Martin
Niemoller because the themes are not the same The Lottery conveys that following a crowd can lead
to consequences; for example, in paragraph 19, All ready? he called. Now, I ll read the names heads of
families first and the men come up and take a paper out of the box. In other words, this shows that all
of the people of the town participated in the traditional game. In paragraph 77, Tessie Hutchinson was
in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her hands out desperately as the villagers moved
in on her. It isn t fair, she said. A stone hit her on the side of the head. In this paragraph Tessie
Hutchinson is about to get stoned to death because she picked the slip of paper that had the black dot

In Winter by Melissa Meyer there is proof of an underdog protagonist, Cinder, that has to fight with
another person of higher power, literally. The antagonist has higher power because she is the queen of
the moon and Cinder is a cyborg from a middle class family. Cinder is the underdog of the novel, and
the book series because she is a cyborg. She is also the long lost Princess Selene, rightful heir to the
throne. Cinder is also wanted by Queen Levana, the queen of the moon and Cinder s aunt, because
Levana is threatened by Cinder. Levana and Cinder fight in Levana s throne room on Luna. Cinder
confronts Levana and they fight for whoever will be the true Queen of Luna. In the end Levana is shot
in the head and dies. Cinder is stabbed through the heart but miraculously survives. In The Lost Hero

Cognitive Behavior Therapy And Mental Therapy
The cognitive behavior therapy initially treated depression, but extensive research has demonstrated
that cognitive behavior therapy works to treat many other psychiatric disorders (Corey p.307). For
example, phobias, eating disorders, anxiety, panic disorders, borderline personality, posttraumatic
stress disorder etc. Additionally, there is evidence from neuroimaging research that CT therapy
reduces the activity in the amygdalohippocampal subcortical region and increase the activity in the
frontal cortical regions. Where they show the activation of schema (irrational thoughts) and the
cognitive control of emotions. Meaning that CT produces symptom relief in depression and anxiety by
modifying biased data processing and disturbance schema stimulation (Clark, Beck, 2010).The study
of Peris, Compton, Kendall, Birmaher, Sherrill, March, and Piacentini, (2014) demonstrated that youth
suffering from anxiety were treated using cognitive behavior therapies resulting in significant
improvement on the overall measure of anxiety symptom severity and global functioning. Also, the
findings on the study support the idea that changes in maladaptive or irrational thinking help to reduce
anxiety. In this study, youth were introduced to the practice of cognitive restructuring which enhanced
improvements in anxiety. Also, the present study supports the merits of exposure techniques across
both overall anxiety symptom severity and global functioning. The introduction of exposures

Whitetail Deer Research Paper
A young deer is walking through the woods. All of the sudden its mother is shot. Many people know
the story of the fawn named Bambi. However, many don t know much about his kind, the whitetail
deer. Many people only think of deer as an animal to hunt and eat its meat, but it s much more. In
order to fully understand the whitetail deer, one must understand its complex anatomy, its interesting
way of mating, and its simple diet.
The whitetail deer, or Odocoileus virginianus, is a mammal in the cervidae family. Because of this,
they are one of the few creatures with antlers. Antlers are projections from the head that are connected
to, and part of, the skull. Antlers vary in size and contrary to popular belief, are based on genetics and
not health. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mating rituals begins with a rut. Ruts start with males proving their dominance with a grunt snort
wheeze pattern. Then the males begin to fight each other by attacking each other with their antlers.
They do this to earn the right to every doe in the area. Each doe usually have one fawn in its first
mating season, but will likely have twins in each of the following years. Fawns are born with white
spots on their backs making them easy to see. Does are very protective of their newborn fawns, only
leaving them for short intervals to graze for food. When the mother is absent, the fawn will lay
motionless on the forest floor, camouflaged from predators (American Expedition 2017). After one
month the fawn will start to follow the mother around. One to two months later it will lose the white
spots. Fawns mature at one year be will not be mated until they are 18 months old. In the wild the deer
will grow to be around six feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds. However the largest deer recorded
are found in their native regions of Minnesota and Ontario.
Even though whitetail deer can grow to large sizes they don t even eat meet to do it. Deer are strictly
herbivores that don t even chew. A deer s stomach consists of four chambers. Because of this, they can
eat some poisonous mushrooms that are lethal to humans. However, deer mainly eat legumes, shoots,
and members of the grass family. Deer use

Popsile Constraints
Our group started to look at the creative constraints before designing the container which included 12
popsicle sticks, 5 10 index cards, 1 meter of duct tape, and 1 plastic bag, and the container had to fit
the base of a pie plate. Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of water, we had to fit 1
liter of water in our container. Our group started discussing what shape we wanted to do and soon we
decided making a cube because it would be easy to build and it makes sense. Before building the
container had to made a plan, our plan was to start building from bottom to top. So we started off with
the base, but before we did that we had to make the dimensions which were 10 cm for the length, 10
cm for the width, and 10 cm for the height and it equals out to 1,000 cm. We planned to use all of the
materials, but we had to cut or bend them. We cut the popsicle sticks to 10 cm and bent the index
cards at the 10 cm mark that we made with a ruler. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation
and connected the sides with more popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped
the sides of the base and started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards
to the base and taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. We place the bag inside
and called it a day. Soon we tested it and the results didn t end up equalling to 1,000 ml of water, it
was 1,063 ml. Our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson And The Ones...
Sacrifice for Peace It is safe to say to say that one person does not deserve harm for the betterment of
a society or a community. In the short stories, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and The Ones Who
Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin, each display similarities when it comes to sacrifice
for better. Although each society believes in the practice, in the story The Ones Who Walk Away from
Omelas the citizens believes the practice of locking a little boy away in a closest will benefit them to
live happily and prosper. In The Lottery a town of people hold a yearly assembly where a person of
the community is randomly chosen to be stoned for the hope of more crops in the fall. Each of the
stories display sacrifice in their theme, as well as people in the community who believe that the
practice of sacrifice is wrong, and the belief that the benefits for all come from pain and suffering of
one single individual. In the story, The Lottery people in the community practice sacrifice by going
through a process of drawing names. In the story the characters assemble in town square to draw
names out of a black box that has been used for decades. Their form of sacrifice has been a town ritual
that everyone in the community has become accustomed to for some time. When the day comes for
the lottery all the citizens gathered in the town square. Surprisingly, during the first drawing a well
known man by the name of Bill Hutchinson drew the slip to be sacrificed. Tessie, the

The United States Will Fight Foreign And Domestic Terrorism
Technology has come a long way since the early 90 s. With modern advances, technology is just about
incorporated in everything we do in our day to day lives. Since technology has been incorporated into
our everyday lives, it may raise some concerns about what may be happening in the background. One
of these concerns would be privacy, we all may take it for granted but it is our constitutional rights as
Americans. But this all changed after the September 2001 attack on the twin towers.
The September 2001 attacks on the twin towers will forever change how the United States will fight
foreign and domestic terrorism. The implementation of The Program starting on October 4th, was set
out to collect massive amounts of data via Internet and telephone records to ensure national security.
Many people within the NSA didn t even know about this program because it was so classified. The

was. But many of them viewed it as an unethical practice and a clear violation of the Constitution of
United States. But some of them viewed it as necessary to national security.

unethical. In the documentary United States of Secrets, Diana Roark was presented with The Program

Mailing surveys will get expensive and responses are not guaranteed. This limitation is addressed to

Even though people believe they are being accurate, they may in fact not be. Essentially, we are
collecting information on their perceptions of what they believe to be accurate. (Mertler 2016).
Participants may also respond to surveys the way they think the researcher wants them to respond.
Although unavoidable when conducting survey research, researchers have an obligation to recognize

Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) is defined as the recovery of an isolate of S. pneumoniae from a
normally sterile site, such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pleural fluid, joint aspirate, pericardial

recognition and intervention are critical due to the high mortality rate associated with delayed
diagnosis [3]. A literature review revealed no case reports of splenic abscesses due to invasive

The Principle Of Equity Law
INTRODUCTION
Contract is a part of our everyday life. We might not be aware of it but simply buying your lunch
involves an agreement between you, as the buyer, and the seller. The contract is an agreement between
two or more parties under which legal rights and obligations are created which will be enforced in
courts. In addition, law of contract is all about the concepts relevant to the development,
implementation and violation of the agreement.
On the other hand, equity law is a set of rules exercised if there is no appeasement based on the
common law of contract. Here, the court is given the right and freedom to use their own discretion in
giving just and appropriate decisions.
So, the principle of equity is applied when the common law of contract is not sufficient to give
objective and fair judgement. But when would one say it s not adequate? How can it be perceived as
unfair? What is the basis of this fair mindedness? Is this really justice?
ANALYSIS Technically, if we look at the law of contract, there are a lot of loopholes that can be
detected to escape from obligations. A mere breach of the essential requirements or conditions of an
agreement can make the promisor be free from punishment provided he pays for the damages the
other party had suffered. Easy right? Especially if you have the extra money to spare and just laugh
about it afterward. This is where the equity law butt in and the court can apply various equitable
remedies to the disadvantageous ones.

Semiotic Analysis of True Detective
Semiotic Analysis of True Detective In 1951, the first television crime drama series, Dragnet
significantly influenced our American culture. According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, the
term dragnet is a symbol, for, a system of coordinated measures used to apprehend criminals or
suspects. Most crime drama series solve a different case each episode. Although, in current pop culture
crime dramas focus on one particular crime, throughout an entire season. Similar, to the show
Homeland, the HBO crime drama True Detective adds a twist on the conventional series. The show
depicts a subject matter that has affected modern society as a whole. Southern Louisiana police
detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, in 2012, are asked to revisit their solving of a ritualistic murder
case from 1995. The murder of a former student of the Light of the Way Christian Academy lays the
foundation, for detective Cohle s doubts about the true design of religion. The True Detective storyline
portrays the utilization of religion, education, and politics, by men in power who manipulate and
control young innocent children. Questioning the validity of religion within a crime drama series is
relative to modern society. The conspiracy within the Catholic Church to suppress hundreds of child
molestations committed, by Catholic priests is a pertinent sign represented in True Detective .
Southern Louisiana is located in the heart of the American Bible belt, where religion is not a choice,

The Affordability Problem Of Washington State
The affordability problem is across all states and largely affects the working wage earners and below.
(Housing Needs Assessment, 2015 booklet page 297) This is because throughout the nation there is a
large differences between minimum wage, housing wage, and the affordable units available. As noted
earlier in the essay, King County is experiencing a huge affordable housing Crisis. The 2015 Housing
Needs Assessment indicated that there are only 28 affordable units for every 100 extremely cost
burden families. Washington State is short in 166,058 affordable units, 2015. With Seattle economy
and populations growing each year these affordable units are necessary to maintain the working class.
In many states such as Washington, the housing wage is twice as much as the minimum wage per hour
creating a population of cost burdened residents. In the state of Washington there are 353,472
households that are severely cost burdened creating a large gap between the 100,098 affordable units
that are available creating the 253,375 units still needed. To afford a market priced two bedroom
apartment in Washington, an individual needs to work 115 hours a month with a minimum wage $
9.47 to pay the average rent of $1089 per month. (Housing Development, 2015 page 2015) The
difference between minimum wage and housing wage is even more distinct in King County and
Seattle. King County minimum wage is $11 per hour with a housing wage of $27.21 per hour. For
working wage individuals in Seattle

Disadvantages Of Newspaper Article
In research, there is a wide variety of ways in which researchers and journalists go about presenting
their, or others, findings. Because many of these findings have the possibility to have significant
impact on the general populace, it is important to know the context from which this information is
being published, as many findings may be influenced by source, representation, bias, outside funding
or goals, and many other extraneous factors. In this case, the Lillienfeld et al (2014) article and The
Telegraph article are both presented in vastly differing ways, both with their own advantages and
disadvantages. These two articles bring to the forefront many differences in the ways that scholarly
and popular media formats address findings. The article by Lillienfeld et al (2014) serves as a great
example of the general advantages and disadvantages held by scholarly articles. One of the most
pronounce advantages of scholarly articles is that they often go into more depth in their definitions
and explanations of the variables and findings of their research. In the Lillienfeld et al (2014) article, a
great example of this is in their goal statement near the beginning of the article. They very clearly
explain that there is very little research into the implications of [psychopathic] traits for everyday
functioning with large amounts of citation, leading into their goal, in which they try to determine the
extent to which [psychopathic] traits display response penetration in

The Age Of Milton Freedman Summary
In the past quarter century, the world has seen a large uptick in the adoption of free market policies as

document the lack of social and living standards especially in the case of education, medical care, and

Claude Monet Analysis
Claude Monet s piece titled Sunrise (Marine) illustrates the daylight in the industrial port of Le Havre
of the north coast, France. This piece was made in March or April of 1873. The piece s present
location is the J. Paul Getty Museum, west pavilion, gallery w204. The medium is oil on canvas and is
next to another piece made by Monet called The Portal of Rouen Cathedral in morning light. Claude
Monet was part of the impressionist movement that changes French paintings of the nineteenth
century. For Sunrise (1872), people criticized the paint due to the appearance of an unfinished
painting, however other artist saw it as an honor and eventually called themselves impressionist . The
painting brings out a beautiful image due to the colors, texture, and technique that plays an important
role in society and culture. When entering the room, people crowded around Monet s pieces, which
felt like an honor to see the type and techniques his work has. The colors describe the feeling of an
early morning. The painting has a muted palette of blues, greens, and grays. The sunrise is orange and
yellow which are surrounded by the clouds and smoke from steamboats. Three boats are shapes and
visible while the rest fade into the distance. This painting is an example of plein air or outdoor
painting. I also notice that Monet layered the colors so that when I viewed the painting from a far
distance I knew what the painting was about however when I looked at it up close I saw brush strokes

Steroids In The Film Bigger, Stronger
In the documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster it covers the choice to use, or not use steroids in the lives

his younger brother, Smelly, does use, and so does his old brother, Mad Dog. Both of Chris s brothers
are breaking the norm, and participating in both formal, and informal deviance. Even though deviance
occurs of both side of normality, his brothers are overconforming. The oldest brother, Mad Dog, has
such a strong sport ethic, he refuses to give up on his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Mad
Dog has such a low self esteem that he feels the only way to be successful, and gain respect is to make
it as a wrestler. He was not happy working for his father selling insurance, because it was not his
dream. So he did whatever he could to still maintain his life in the sports world, because it was so
exhilarating he would do anything to stay involved. Mad Dog used steroids, wrestled at any events he
could, and continuously sent in tapes to the WWE to audition for a role. Still none of this was enough
to make it big. At the end of the documentary he was shown moving to LA, where he thought that

Eugenics And Its Impact On Society
Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating poverty, crime, and
social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are closely interdependent. Changes within
society cause a need for modifications within the school system. Similarly, alterations within the
school system impact society. Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in
drastic educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school reform to
the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is the study of the
agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations
either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school
systems; American s often want to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an
insidious effect on the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1).
The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were passed down in
families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided
to sterilize many families who may carry these traits. They argued, America must be kept American
(Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept provided the guiding ideology behind

Development As Freedom Summary
Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which
measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses
on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as
Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both
factually and normatively.
In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is not
an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and capabilities are
closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on human beings and
their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is to
slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production but
ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic concern in
assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to lead the kind of
lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything from the opportunity
to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful area. These are clearly
non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s capability to buy goods/services, it
doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life, which Sen proposes we should care
about as much as, if not more than just economic growth. Finally, in what is his strongest argument for
focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather
than just an instrumental value (292). Where income and capital are resources that improve people s
choices, they are a means to development, not an end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities
instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our yardstick for measuring

Advertising And Their Influence On Children
Ethics in advertising and their influence on children:

Advertising has grown massively due to the expansion of technology and this has transformed the

Pearl Harbor Conspiracy, By Japanese Torpedo And Bomber...

Pearl Harbor Conspiracy
On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, was attacked by Japanese torpedo and
bomber planes. This attack took the lives of 2,402 Americans and left around 1,282 people injured.
The surprise attack caused outrage in the American people, news media, government and the world.
The following day President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the nation and United States Congress,
in response to the attack. In that address, the president asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
Congress voted and passed the U.S. Declaration of War on Japan, that very same day. That was
America`s entry into World War II. Previous to this attack Americans were reluctant to get involved in
another world war, the President on the other hand been trying to convince congress to declare war. So
as it turned out a surprise attack was exactly what was needed to get the American people to unite in
supporting joining the war. This idea has led to the Pearl Harbor Advance Knowledge conspiracy
theory. The general idea of this conspiracy theory is that President Franklin D. Roosevelt and other
government officials had knowledge that Japan was planning an attack before the attack happened. It
even goes as far to claim that the government did somethings to encourage the attack. The reason the
president did not take steps to prevent it was that he was enthusiastic in joining the war. Like with any
conspiracy theory there is

Parents Should Encourage Their Children
Parents dream of popularity, college scholarships, and professional athleticism lead them into blindly
pushing their children into misery. In an article written by Baldwin Ellis, he suggests that an array of
emotional issues can stem from this type of parenting (Ellis,2015). The act of pushing may, in fact,
encourage the child to perform at a level less than their actual potential. Kathryn Hatler of Demand
Media sites that many parents live their lives vicariously through their children (Hatler,n.d.). Very
little facts are given on the positive effects of parents pushing their children in any activity so why is it
so prominent in our society today? Parents should encourage their children in the sport of the child s
choosing rather than push them beyond the child s desires.
A study conducted by Aries Apparel suggests that nearly 18 million kids play organized sports each
year (Lee,2015). With correct leadership, the benefits of participation begin to show in childhood and
continually appear into adulthood. During adolescents, organized sports enable individuals to exude
good sportsmanship, self discipline, social skills, teamwork abilities, as well as better health
initiatives( Ireland,2015 ). These skills are key components in the development of character and the
ability to socially function in society as an adult. For instance, when a child can control their
emotions, exuding good sportsmanship, it gives insight into how they will cope with situations later in
life.

Confession And False Confessions
Interrogation is common activity for police officers. Interrogations are used with suspects to gain
information on a case and hopefully get a confession. Recently, the issue of false confessions and poor
interrogation tactics have come to light in the media. With T.V. movies, such as Netflix s Making a
Murderer , or the podcast Serial , potential issues with the process of interrogation become a public
concern. These concerns need to be researched to determine what issues do exist in the system and
how many of these cases are just random, rather than normal occurrences.
One of the major concerns is that police and other law enforcement officials may not be able to
distinguish between a real confession and a false confession. The fear is that law enforcement officials
may be overconfident in their abilities to get a true confession so they are missing these false
confessions. With this, another issue is that individuals may give a coerced confession either because
they have been in interrogation for quite some time and want to be done or because the tactics used in
interrogation make them believe they did commit a crime. Another concern is that police are finding
ways to around the Miranda Rights. They may be using tactics that prevent clients from invoking their
Miranda Rights or just tricking them into talking after they have invoked their rights like in the Rhode
Island vs Innis case. With this there is also the issue that individuals may be read their rights but

Doublespeak In Advertising
I agree with your claim that MasterCard unethically uses doublespeak in this advertisement, and that
was one of my main ideas (my first one to be specific) in my original answer also. It s interesting how
when we think as critical receivers, we can clearly see the juxtaposition between what s said and its
actual underlying meaning. For example, when they say free , it will actually cost a lot of money, and
when they discuss offers associated with having this card, they fail to mention the fees and terms that
are associated with the card. While any misleading or confusing persuasive language can be
considered doublespeak, this specific utilization of words with opposite meanings exemplifies George
Orwell s newspeak from 1984 (Larson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously as an advertiser it makes sense that you only show the positive benefits associated with the
product, but in this case, the positive elements aren t even realistic. This ties in to my point about the
association principle being woven into the ad to connect a credit card with happiness and family
values. The association principle connects these ideals which in reality are not connected at all
(Campbell et. al., 2013). For instance, if I want to show my family that I value and love them, I can
spend time with them and verbally convey affection. I find it inappropriate and unethical that
MasterCard is implementing exaggerated emotional appeals (pathos) to suggest that a family s
happiness is connected to their world credit card; after all, as the age old adage goes, Money can t buy
happiness. In addition, as I have claimed in my original answer and some of my other responses, the
emotional branding used by MasterCard is marketing a lifestyle more than a product (Goodman et. al.,
2003), and using this kind of marketing strategy often results in fallacious and unethical persuasive
tactics. There s some excellent ideas here, William, and I ll be sure to implement them in our group s

I currently work for the company Jimmy John s under the supervision of Raymond Gonzales. When
given this assignment, I spoke to Mr. Gonzales to see if he had any personal inquiries about the day to
day operations of Jimmy Johns. Mr. Gonzales spoke to me about how he has always been curious to
know why the employee turnover rate is so high. The store I currently work at has many veteran
workers who have been there for over a year. Then again, in my short six months working in the
company I have seen first hand people come and go rapidly. I agreed that the employee turnover rate
is high and decided to investigate.

Then $188,000 in sales and $50,000 in profits the next year. In May of 1986 Jimmy John was able to
buy his father out of the business (Liautaud, November 2016). With profits in his favor, Jimmy John
decided to start franchising. This year, Jimmy John s stores are projected for annual sales of $1.2

From the years of 1994 2002 Jimmy John grew by 150 franchises. In that time period 121 loans were
taken out in the name of Jimmy John s, and only 2 failed. This gives a loan failure rate of 1.7% for the
company as a whole. In 2002 Jimmy John discovered that 70 of his 160 stores were failing. At that
time he stopped selling franchises and teamed with his president to turn around the 70 failing stores.
He soon found out that the stores were not following the systems that Jimmy John had set in place
himself. He observed that some of the stores were not committed to the restaurant lifestyle of long
days and even longer nights. Jimmy John committed 18 months to working with the failing stores.
After that time period the decision was made that 7 of the failing stores could not be saved and that
shutting down would be the best option. Jimmy John Liautaud is very honest when it comes to the
runnings of a business.
In 2014 Jimmy John s got some negative press. They initiated new policies stating that employees
would be required

  • 2. Major Discoveries in Electrical Communication in the 1800’s The nineteenth century was a very prolific era of discovery in electrical knowledge and technologies that laid the foundation for modern electrical communication. During this period of time the foundations of modern electrically based technologies were discovered. The nineteenth century began with a debate between Luigi Galvani, and Alessandro Volta regarding the source of electricity in Galvani s famous frog experiment. These debates lead to the invention of the battery by Volta, and the invention of Volta s. Volta s discoveries would lead the way for Ohm s law several years later. However, before that discovery was made Hans Christian Ørstead discovered electromagnetism, which was then used by André Marie Amperè to show that magnetism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Galvani noticed that when a metal scalpel was brought close one of the nerves in the frog that the frog s leg would move. Galvani stated that the electricity observed in the frogs was intrinsic the nerves of the frog. Galvani used multiple different metals combinations to demonstrate the electric phenomenon. He would further demonstrate that metals were seemingly unneeded. He did this by manipulating the nerves and muscles of the frogs in such way that caused the same twitch, as when a metal object was brought near. The publication of his research in 1791 would peak the interest of Alessandro Volta. Volta was convinced that Galvani s animal electricity was not the result of the animal tissues, but the metals within those tissues. In an effort to prove this Volta invented the battery . Volta s battery was built out of alternating zinc and copper disks with cloth (or a similar medium) soaked in salt water [10]. Volta stated the following regarding the nature of electricity with respect to Galvani s animal electricity: Herein lies the whole secret, the whole magic of Galvanism. It is simply an artificial electricity, which acts under the impulse of contacts between different conductors [9]. At this point Volta s theory of electricity by contact was fully accepted. Just after Volta s greatest discovery and before that of Ohm, Hans Christian Ørstead discovered magnetism. Ørstead conducted a series of experiments that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He studied at Hanover College and Western Reserve University. Sheppard pursued careers in medicine. He got married in 1945 to his high school girlfriend, Marilyn. After a few years of their marriage, they returned back to Cleveland, Ohio. Until July 4, 1954, they lived a charmed life in a wealthy neighbourhood. Then suddenly on July 4, 1954, Marilyn was found dead in their bedroom. Even though he is a doctor, why would he call his friend to check whether she died or not? Since we had to prove if 1 cubic cm is equal to 1 ml of water, we had to fit 1 liter of water in our container. We placed the popsicle sticks in an X formation and connected the sides with more popsicle sticks, so in total we used 6 popsicle sticks. We duct taped the sides of the base and started working on the sides of the container. We taped the 4 bent index cards to the base and taped popsicle sticks in the inside of the container vertically. • 20. The Principle Of Equity Law INTRODUCTION Contract is a part of our everyday life. We might not be aware of it but simply buying your lunch involves an agreement between you, as the buyer, and the seller. The contract is an agreement between two or more parties under which legal rights and obligations are created which will be enforced in courts. In addition, law of contract is all about the concepts relevant to the development, implementation and violation of the agreement. On the other hand, equity law is a set of rules exercised if there is no appeasement based on the common law of contract. Here, the court is given the right and freedom to use their own discretion in giving just and appropriate decisions. So, the principle of equity is applied when the common law of contract is not sufficient to give objective and fair judgement. But when would one say it s not adequate? How can it be perceived as unfair? What is the basis of this fair mindedness? Is this really justice? ANALYSIS Technically, if we look at the law of contract, there are a lot of loopholes that can be detected to escape from obligations. A mere breach of the essential requirements or conditions of an agreement can make the promisor be free from punishment provided he pays for the damages the other party had suffered. Easy right? Especially if you have the extra money to spare and just laugh about it afterward. This is where the equity law butt in and the court can apply various equitable remedies to the disadvantageous ones. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The painting brings out a beautiful image due to the colors, texture, and technique that plays an important role in society and culture. When entering the room, people crowded around Monet s pieces, which felt like an honor to see the type and techniques his work has. The colors describe the feeling of an early morning. The painting has a muted palette of blues, greens, and grays. The sunrise is orange and yellow which are surrounded by the clouds and smoke from steamboats. Three boats are shapes and visible while the rest fade into the distance. This painting is an example of plein air or outdoor painting. I also notice that Monet layered the colors so that when I viewed the painting from a far distance I knew what the painting was about however when I looked at it up close I saw brush strokes and ... • 30. Eugenics And Its Impact On Society Since the 1800s, the school has continually been seen as a means of eliminating poverty, crime, and social problems (Spring, 2014, p. 83). Society and schools are closely interdependent. Changes within society cause a need for modifications within the school system. Similarly, alterations within the school system impact society. Previous sociological, historical, and reform movements resulted in drastic educational and societal changes. These movements varied from the common school reform to the attempt to control the spread of inferior blood into the general population (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). This idea of controlling the spread of inferior blood was called eugenics. Eugenics is the study of the agencies under social control that seek to improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenics is rarely discussed in modern school systems; American s often want to forget this harmful experiment. However, eugenics has had an insidious effect on the lives of students and the organization of public schools (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). The eugenics movement believed that criminality, intelligence, and pauperism were passed down in families as simple dominant or recessive hereditary traits (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 1). Eugenicists decided to sterilize many families who may carry these traits. They argued, America must be kept American (Stoskopf, 1999, p. 2). This concept provided the guiding ideology behind ... • 32. Development As Freedom Summary Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both factually and normatively. In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life, which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth. Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our yardstick for measuring ... Carlos Tovar Professor Couey English 103 Oct. 15, 2015 Pearl Harbor Conspiracy On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii, was attacked by Japanese torpedo and bomber planes. This attack took the lives of 2,402 Americans and left around 1,282 people injured. The surprise attack caused outrage in the American people, news media, government and the world. The following day President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed the nation and United States Congress, in response to the attack. In that address, the president asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Congress voted and passed the U.S. Declaration of War on Japan, that very same day. That was America`s entry into World War II. Previous to this attack Americans were reluctant to get involved in another world war, the President on the other hand been trying to convince congress to declare war. So as it turned out a surprise attack was exactly what was needed to get the American people to unite in supporting joining the war. This idea has led to the Pearl Harbor Advance Knowledge conspiracy theory. The general idea of this conspiracy theory is that President Franklin D. Roosevelt and other government officials had knowledge that Japan was planning an attack before the attack happened. It even goes as far to claim that the government did somethings to encourage the attack. The reason the president did not take steps to prevent it was that he was enthusiastic in joining the war. Kathryn Hatler of Demand Media sites that many parents live their lives vicariously through their children (Hatler,n.d.). Very little facts are given on the positive effects of parents pushing their children in any activity so why is it so prominent in our society today? Parents should encourage their children in the sport of the child s choosing rather than push them beyond the child s desires. A study conducted by Aries Apparel suggests that nearly 18 million kids play organized sports each year (Lee,2015). With correct leadership, the benefits of participation begin to show in childhood and continually appear into adulthood. During adolescents, organized sports enable individuals to exude good sportsmanship, self discipline, social skills, teamwork abilities, as well as better health initiatives( Ireland,2015 ). • 36. Confession And False Confessions Interrogation is common activity for police officers. Interrogations are used with suspects to gain information on a case and hopefully get a confession. Recently, the issue of false confessions and poor interrogation tactics have come to light in the media. With T.V. movies, such as Netflix s Making a Murderer , or the podcast Serial , potential issues with the process of interrogation become a public concern. These concerns need to be researched to determine what issues do exist in the system and how many of these cases are just random, rather than normal occurrences. One of the major concerns is that police and other law enforcement officials may not be able to distinguish between a real confession and a false confession. The fear is that law enforcement officials may be overconfident in their abilities to get a true confession so they are missing these false confessions. With this, another issue is that individuals may give a coerced confession either because they have been in interrogation for quite some time and want to be done or because the tactics used in interrogation make them believe they did commit a crime. Another concern is that police are finding ways to around the Miranda Rights. They may be using tactics that prevent clients from invoking their Miranda Rights or just tricking them into talking after they have invoked their rights like in the Rhode Island vs Innis case. Doublespeak In Advertising I agree with your claim that MasterCard unethically uses doublespeak in this advertisement, and that was one of my main ideas (my first one to be specific) in my original answer also. It s interesting how when we think as critical receivers, we can clearly see the juxtaposition between what s said and its actual underlying meaning. For example, when they say free , it will actually cost a lot of money, and when they discuss offers associated with having this card, they fail to mention the fees and terms that are associated with the card. Obviously as an advertiser it makes sense that you only show the positive benefits associated with the product, but in this case, the positive elements aren t even realistic. This ties in to my point about the association principle being woven into the ad to connect a credit card with happiness and family values. The association principle connects these ideals which in reality are not connected at all (Campbell et. al., 2013). For instance, if I want to show my family that I value and love them, I can spend time with them and verbally convey affection. I find it inappropriate and unethical that MasterCard is implementing exaggerated emotional appeals (pathos) to suggest that a family s happiness is connected to their world credit card; after all, as the age old adage goes, Money can t buy happiness. In addition, as I have claimed in my original answer and some of my other responses, the emotional branding used by MasterCard is marketing a lifestyle more than a product (Goodman et. al., 2003), and using this kind of marketing strategy often results in fallacious and unethical persuasive tactics.
