Avatar Imperialism
Money, military, death or subordinance, these are the main elements of imperialism. Imperialism,
the practice of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force, is
often thought of as negative because of the use of military force. The age of imperialism lasted
from 1870 1914. One example of imperialismfrom this time period is when the countries Britain,
France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Spain all took control over different parts of Africa. One
movie that accurately portrays this ideal negatively is Avatar, a movie directed by James Cameron
and released on December 18, 2009. Avatar is about a group of ex military soldiers that travel to
Pandora, an alien life planet, and the elements of imperialism shown

Sustainability Reporting Essay
As a newly established area in accounting, sustainability accounting and reporting extends the
traditional model of financial and non financial reporting to incorporate the company s operational
information, social and environmental activities, and their ability to deal with related risks. Not
only do these acts have effects on society and the environment, but they also directly impact
company s financial statements. The most widely accepted definition of sustainabilitythat has
emerged over time is the triple bottom line , which incorporates three key elements of performance:
financial, social, and environmental viability (Slaper). These three aspects of sustainability
reporting are also commonly referred to as the triple P s: people, planet, and profit. Although
sustainability has often been mentioned as the goal of many businesses, nonprofits and
governments over the past decade (and studies have shown that an increasing number of companies
and organizations are striving to make their operations more sustainable), determining how
sustainable an organization is can become difficult and also raises many questions within this sub
group of accounting.
Sustainability reporting has become increasingly prevalent in organizations of all types and sizes. A
company or organization s sustainability report is a published report that details the economic,
environmental and social impacts that are a direct result of their daily activities. These reports also
depict the organization s

Why Is Harry Potter Banned
The release of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer s Stone in Britain was originally called Harry Potter
and the Philosopher s Stone. The book was written by J.K Rowling in 1990 when she started the
franchise. Her first book in the series was then published in 1997 by the publishing company called
Bloomsburg. Harry Potterand The Sorcerer s Stone by J.K Rowling was banned from school
libraries in 2001 because of its Un Christian like content and has mischievous behavior of the
main characters, and it should be banned. The main plot of the story is based on a young boy
named Harry Potter. He hates his life because of his strict aunt and uncle. He s told by a friend of
his disseized parents that he is a wizard. He enrolls in a school of wizardry and witchcraft called
Hogwarts to learn how to be a wizard. He quickly becomes popular for being the boy who
survived an attack against a wizard named Voldemort, who ruthlessly killed other wizards,

Harry Potter is evil because it glorifies witchcraft (International Business Times). Along with that,
the main character, Harry Potter, and his two friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, often

characters often disobey orders and end up with a good outcome may influence children to think

The Ancient Inventions Of The Future
The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of the ancient
world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His
Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in
geometry. Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was
round in about 384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of
western civilization was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartographywas all
modernized during this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live
our life would not be the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their
power over our civilization.
First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a
dictator would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for
democratic voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our
jury system, with people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper;
Demokratia, Greek for power of the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city
state s oligarchy exploited citizens and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians
were inspired by the successful, semi democratic model Sparta had adopted. They turned to
lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the

High Risk Family Assessment and Health Promotion Assessing health needs is a fundamental
nursing skill. Unfortunately, many nurses only associate the assessment process to the individual
patient they are caring for and fail to assess and address the needs of the entire family. Performing
a family assessment is vital, especially when working with high risk individuals and groups. High
risk families can be defined as those families with a higher than expected risk for developing a
particular disease or injury in association to their lifestyle, environment, habits, or socio economic

To compound the issue, often the affected veteranwill turn to high risk behaviors in an attempt to
find resolution or relief including smoking, social isolation, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and the
display of violent or aggressive behavior. Frequently, depression or other mental health issues arise.
In a domino effect, the high risk behavior frequently leads to unemployment, habitual drug or
alcohol use, poor or absent parenting, fractured family units, unsafe sex, participation in dangerous
sports or driving, and in some instances, suicide. Last, stress along with the indulgence of smoking
and the consumption of alcohol and drugs can also lead to chronic health issues including
hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease, and digestive disorders.
Assessment and Theory Application Effective treatment of PTSD can only take place if the
disorder is recognized. Symptoms of PTSD are commonly divided into three defining sections: (1)
reliving the traumatic event, (2) detachment and avoidance, and (3) exaggerated responses (NCBI,
2010). When a patient relives the traumatic event, it occurs in a manner in which it interferes with
the normal process of daily life. This can include recurring flashbacks or dreams and distressing
memories, which manifest negative physical reactions. Detachment and avoidance is demonstrated
through loss of interest in current living situation, avoidance of people or places that may

Florian And Black-Hawkins Questions Of Inclusion
To conceptualize inclusion is a problem that academics of education have struggled with. The aim
of this essay to determine how well inclusion is conceptualised in Allan s article, Questions of
Inclusion in Scotland and Europe , and Florian and Black Hawkins article, Exploring inclusive
pedagogy . This essay will argue that Florian and Black Hawkins more effectively conceptualize
inclusion, whilst exploring the barriers of inclusion and how to overcome them, when compared to
Allan s article which lacks depth and strong arguments.
Allan (2009) acknowledges that integration wasn t the final step to involving children in
mainstream school. Instead, inclusion was and still is a better solution. Allan conceptualises
inclusion as increasing participation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both articles note that two major barriers to inclusive practises in school are policies set at
school, council and national levels, as well as how teachers interpret inclusion. Many view
policy changes as the first major step to inclusive practises in school (see Carrington and Elkins,
2002; Pivik et. al., 2002). School, council and national policy on education and inclusion often
clash with theory s interpretations of what inclusion is. For example, policy in schools are often
based on determinist beliefs, in which bell curve thinking about ability are still enforced via
agents such as school inspectors (Florian and Black Hawkins, 2011, 820) or through policy that
enforces attainment as a priority (Allan, 2009, 3). Furthermore, with no universally accepted
definition of inclusion (see D Alessio and Watkins, 2009), the ways in which inclusive practise is
carried out becomes an individual practise, based on what the teacher believes to be inclusive.
Therefore, there is no magic solution or recipe book for inclusion (Allan, 2009, 8). However, one
barrier that the articles disagree over is teacher s attitudes about inclusion. Allan notes, with validity,
that a widespread feeling amongst teachers is that they are not equipped to teach children with
additional support needs. Allan, therefore, suggests that, in order to overcome this barrier to
inclusion, teachers need additional training and

How Did Ancient Egypt s Relations With Foreign Power
To a great extent Egypt s relations changed with foreign powers from the eighteenth to the
nineteenth dynasties as Egyptian pharaohs adopted policies of diplomacy or military conquest.
During the reign of Amenhotep III Egypt s relations with foreign powers continued to be focused
on diplomacy rather than military conflict as Amenhotep sort to maintain peace and prosperity
throughout the region. With the accession of Akhenatento the throne, Egypts relations with foreign
powers and its vassal s changed dramatically with the rise of the expansionist Hittites and the

The battle of Kadesh was the climax of hostilities between Egypt and Hittite, however, the battle
served as the end of Egyptian expansionism in Syria Palestine. In year twenty one of Ramesses
reign peace was achieved between Egypt and Hittite as evident from inscriptions at the
Ramesseum, the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak and a Hittite tablet at its capital, Hattusas. In contrast to
the early part of Ramesses reign, the quotation reflects the peace and prosperity experienced by
both Egypt and Hittite during this period and the stability that continued throughout the reign of
Ramesses. The treaty led to a formation of an alliance, a mutual defence pact and a promise of no
further aggression. Trading improved with the reopening of Phoenician ports and removal of
barriers to the Euphrates brought renewed trading opportunities. Diplomacy and marriages where
used to maintain friendly relations between the two sides. Gifts were exchanged and Nefertari and
the Hittite queen Pudukhapa exchanged correspondence and gifts of jewels as evident from letters.
Further evident from letters is that in year thirty four of his reign Ramesses married a Hittite
princess to strengthen Egypt Hittite relations. This was followed by another marriage to

Examples Of Creation Myths
What creation myth do you believe in? There are many different creation myths, each culture has
their own because they believe the world was created different. Even though cultures have different
myths some of them have something in common, which is a motif. The motifs that I think are the
most important are the following; Most myths start with chaos, Men are always created before
women, and Humans are made for organic material. Without these motifs the creation myths would
be silly and would not make sense.
Creation myths mostly start with Chaos:
In my opinion the most important motif of all, is how, mostly all creation myths start with chaos.
Most myths uses chaos because nobody really knows what was before earth and god, especially way

Men were always created first because they are stronger and can withstand more than women.
When the gods would make women they made them small and fragile, they were not meant to do
hard labor. Every culture used this motif so that means it must be important and a smart idea to
use. The main reason that women were made was to give the men company, be the men s mate,
and take care of the children. While the men were out all day working of finding food for the
family, while his wife would be inside watching the children and cleaning the house.
Humans were made out of organic materials:
Most men were made from organic materials because the gods wanted them to either be apart of
them or the earth. The cultures that used this motif were most likely people that loved the earth and
worshiped their god everyday. There are many cultures that use organic materials to make the
humans but some materials did not work like the gods were hoping for. For example in the Yoruba
creation myth the humans are made from clay, but while Obatala was making the people he was
drunk and made them all deformed and ugly. Obatala was a very nice god and did not kill them he
just made more people that were perfect. Another example is the Mayan creation myth, In the
beginning of the myth Tepeu and Gucumatz made animals and were disappointed because the
animals could not speak to say their names and praise them. Tepeu and Gucumatz decided to create
man and they made

Quentin Tarantino s Use Of Pastiche In The Film Pulp Fiction
Pastiche is a technique used in artistic works that is constructed from borrowing various elements
from other texts. The strategy of pastiche is present in the film Pulp Fiction (1994) by Quentin
Tarantino and the artistic photographic series Living in Hell and Other Stories by Tom Hunter.
Through these artworks the audience is able to identify a range of textual works that imitate the
style or character of particular artwork, film or literature. Pastiche derives from the late nineteenth
century word pasticcio . This French and Italian word means a pie filled with a variety of
ingredients. Similarly, a pastiche is a reference from multiple sources. It is an example of
eclecticism or intertextuality in art. The meaning of the text is enhanced... Show more content on

Pastiche used in film is generally incorporated to create a nostalgic tone. However this is not the
case with Pulp Fiction as the strategy is used to pay homage and show appreciation towards
1950 s pulp fiction texts and influential films. Tarantino alludes to various aspects, techniques and
scenes from other Hollywood movies into his own. Tarantino stated, I always hope that if one
million people see my movie, they see one million different movies . Elements from Hollywood
movies such as weapons, costumes, camera angles, themes and famous scenes are injected into
Pulp Fiction . His film blurs the line between cinematic styles and genres. Intertextuality is a
significant factor within Tarantino s work, as by reinventing the old he is able to preserve
originality and create a sense of dimension within his work. Tarantino refers to Pulp Fiction not
as a movie but as multiple movies. An example of pastiche within the film is present in the scene
in which Marcellus Wallace coincidentally recognises Butch in his car while walking across the
street. This action mimics the scene from Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho where Marion s boss
recognises her as he crosses at traffic lights. Through this pastiche Tarantino is able to show his
appreciation and influence of Hitchcock s infamous films while also applying the scene in a
postmodern context. Another occurrence of pastiche appears in Butches weapon of choice; a
baseball bat and chainsaw. These weapons of choice pay homage to the films Walking Tall and
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Irene Martinez Character Analysis
Strength in the Weakness It is impossible for us, as humans, to be free of obstacles, challenges,
and problems. Immediately, when I think about a tough life, I remember my beautiful
grandmother, Irene Martinez. Bravery, courage, and strength are the words that describe this
wonderful woman. She faced different challenges during the sixty five years she lived. For
example, the loss of her father when she was only thirteen years old. Even though she was a little
girl experiencing the harshness of life, she never gave up. The loss of loved ones, sickness, and
pain were some of the challenges she had to face and overcome throughout the years. Losing a
loved one is heartbreaking. Although, Irene Martinez was a strong woman, she experienced the

Why Is Kate Chopin Banned
Kate Chopin, being a woman in the nineteenth century, not only wrote a book, but wrote one about
a woman finding her own independence through a series of awakenings , and sexual relationships

and unorthodox , the book was not banned, but it was censored (Wikipedia).

Edna returns to Grand Isle, where her awareness about her independence and sexuality came to be,
to then find herself embracing the sea s water while remembering about her freedom from her
children and husband, and Robert, ultimately leading to her suicide (Chopin).
Because of Edna s heightened sexuality, desire for independence, and awakenings ,
The
Awakening created a series of controversy leading to the book being censored (Overview). Edna,
defying race, sex, and class, inspired women across the world to pursue their own sexuality and
independence (
Elfenbein).
In the end, the theme of solitude as the consequence of independence arises because of the fact that
the main character, Edna Pontellier, senses a feeling of solitude after becoming independent that led
to her suicide (SparkNotes). Along with the theme of solitude as the consequence of independence,
the theme of the implications of selfВexpression also becomes present through the different ways
Edna expresses herself (SparkNotes). Edna s expressions included: art, language, music, and love in
which were all contributing factors to Edna s desire for independence and sexual desire
(SparkNotes).

The Lecture At The Angelica Library
The Opportunity in Lecturing
Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library
On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany
County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and
lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others,
developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and
reflecting upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it.
As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical
lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the
historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the
abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had
uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions
to the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on
the subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at
Ithaca College during my speaking section. From that point I had also gained some other interesting
bits of information to add on my knowledge on the matter. For instance, during another section of
the conference I had listened to the presentation

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a condition that affects thousands of people each year. An estimated
764,000 children and adults are afflicted with one or more symptoms of CP. Around 8,000
infants and babies are diagnosed each year and 1,200 1,500 preschool age children are recognized
with symptoms of CP (www.ucp.org). This condition is caused by abnormal development of areas
of the brain that control movement and posture (www.ucp.org). It can also be caused by damage to
the brain (usually because of head injury during the birthing process) or diseases/infections the
mother has during pregnancy such as German measles, rubella, bacterial meningitis, or viral

It can be quite difficult for the patient to use the muscles needed for speech; this is called
dysarthria (www.ucp.org). A lesser known type of CP that affects 5 10% of patients is called
ataxic CP (www.ucp.org). This form affects the patients sense of balance leaving them with poor
coordination. It is difficult for them to move quickly or make specific movements. Writing and
buttoning their own shirt can be a difficult task for people with ataxic CP. A tremor in the body
part they are attempting to use can be present as well. CP can also be present as a mixed form.
This means the patient can have a combination of each of the previous forms. There are many
challenges that come with being diagnosed with any type of cerebral palsy. Children with CP may
have a problem controlling the muscles in their mouth. Things we take for granted such as eating
and talking can be very difficult for children with CP. They may need assistance eating and may
use other forms of communication. Problems with breathing can also affect the child s ability to
speak. Some children with CP also have seizures or convulsions. This can be a result of abnormal
brain activity. These seizures can completely interrupt their activity. They can stare off in space or
lose complete control of their body. Medication is prescribed to those that need it. Children with

Understanding Police Use Of Force
Understanding Police Use of Force Police Officer shoots unarmed teen to death. Police Officer
shoots unarmed teen to death who is violently attacking an officer. Which one is a catchier
headline? The first one may attract ratings or sell newspapers but it is not only unfair to the police,
it is also unfair to the public being fed this type of information. For years, news outlets have been
bad mouthing policeand their tactics because it makes for good stories. This type of coverage is
dangerous because it may cause police to not act as quickly as they should, and it gives the
public the wrong understanding about police use of force. The Police use of force continuum
can be easily understood by the public but, that will require knowledge of the subject matter to
include reasons as to why police stop certain individuals and proper ways to treat police during
an encounter. The use of force continuum is basically a stair step of levels of force an officer
can use to defend themselves and/or effect an arrest. The use of force continuum starts with the
level of force known as officer presence. An example of this is when an officer arrives on scene,
and his or her mere presence causes the subject or subjects to comply. If an officer arrives at a bar
fight and the subjects are actively fighting until they observe the officer then the use of force level
was successful. The next level in the use of force continuum is verbal commands. Police officers

Baruch Spinoza s Anti Anthroponcentric View Essay
When Baruch Spinoza composed his philosophical masterpiece, the Ethics, he knew that his ideas
(particularly those of God) would be considered heretical in the extreme, leading to any number of
unpleasant consequences. This was the reason that the Ethics were published in 1677,
posthumously (p.97)1. His apprehensions are well justified in the light of what he writes in the
Appendix (p.145 149) to Part1: Concerning God (p.129 145) regarding the prejudices present in
the minds of human beings. For, it is here that Spinoza directly challenges the prevalent religious
orthodoxy and seeks to remove the very dogma that was the basis of their power. Spinoza asserts in

(p.145). The argument regarding (1) above, is undoubtedly the most crucial and (not
surprisingly) the most heretical of Spinoza s unabashed critique of contemporary religion. The
(main) reason for (1) turns out to be (as we shall see) the creation of God in the image of Man by
people in their vain attempts to understand the nature of the Universe. This
anthropomorphisation of God and the parallel anthropocentric view of the universe, is in
essence what Spinoza concludes to be the reason for (1). The argument follows shortly (based
upon p.145 6). The key to answering (1) above, is what Spinoza calls The Doctrine of Final
Causes (henceforth referred to simply as the Doctrine ). This doctrine is essentially the process
by which the above creation takes place. Firstly, people come into being without definite
knowledge of causal relationships between things. Further, they have a strong belief in the
freedom of their own will, and this belief arises from their conscious knowledge of their desires
and from what they perceive as their (essentially) unstoppable drive in fulfilling them. Also, they
have no inclination to investigate the cause for these desires to exist in the first place. Finally
(Spinoza says), people are always focussed on their final goals,

necessary to protect your website idea from others that may try to profit from your idea. For
example, a utility patent is the most common type of patent. It covers the functional aspects of an
invention. In order for an invention to qualify for patent protection, it must be useful, new, and non
obvious. This means that it must be have some sort of purpose, or otherwise, be useful to potential

Provisional Patents for Websites
A provisional patent application is filed with the USPTO and establishes an early filing date, but
doesn t amount to a formal patent application unless and until the applicant files a non provisional
patent application within the 12 months subsequent to filing the non provisional patent. A
provisional patent application is both less detailed and less costly. Immediately after you file your
provisional patent application, you can indicate that your website idea is patent pending. During this
time period, you can develop your website idea even further and turn your provisional patent
application into a formal non provisional patent application.
With a provisional application, you ll want to prepare diagrams and drawings of your website when
filing the application. When drafting the diagrams, consider the user interface itself, the software
generated process, and the administrative screens/cods/software used to maintain the website. Since
there are many unique business processes involved in your website, you want to keep each one
distinct, showcasing the unique methods and processes utilized, and how your website came
together. The more specific and detailed you can be, the higher your chance of patent protection.
Always be mindful that you can hire a qualified patent attorney to assist you with preparing your
application. You can even hire a professional to assist in the drawings,

Critical Information About A Patient s Plan Of Care
Specific problem requiring change and Situation description: The shift report between the off going
and oncoming nurses must include all of the critical information about a patient s plan of care. This
information must be communicated. The change of shift report that is done incorrectly can be a
result of missed information and poor communication between nurses, affecting their ability to
deliver safe and efficient care for the patients. This problem occurs not just at one but at most
hospitals, where inter shift report still continues to take place at the nursing station without
inclusion or a visual of the patient until the report is done. As I witnessed shift report in the
hallways or at the nursing stations of SCVMC of the 33 bed mother and baby unit, I noticed that at
times unnecessary information is received and critical information may not be communicated. On
the other hand, at Redwood City Kaiser neuroscience unit bedside inter shift nursing report works
well and I have witnessed better nurse patient relationship, lower incidents of falls, strong
teamwork, as well as improved nurse accountability and prioritization at the beginning of the shift.

Assize Of Clarendon Essay
1.The Assize of Clarendon was first created by Henry II. What was it? It was a law that helped
organize the English law. The name applied when the Council of Clarendon met. First off, it
helped improve the criminal law, which is a law that gave punishment to crime. It had a jury to
help. The jury would tell the king s judges about any crimes that were committed. The crimes
that Henry II commissioned were murder, theft, and robbery. The men who were punished or
subjected were punished in various ways. If a man was convicted of a severe crime, he would
receive imprisonment or an amputation of his hand or leg. All the men who were subjected had to
receive the trial of water. One of the rules of the Assize of Clarendon were if there were no prisons

Subcontractor Resource Management Essay
Specialist contractors generally known as subcontractors perform the majority of the work on
commercial construction projects. They face significant challenges in allocating their resources
across multiple, concurrent projects (O Brien and Fischer 2000). Despite their central nature to
project performance, relatively little research has been performed to formally model their
operations. Without such modeling, there exists little basis from which to measure or improve
performance. This dissertation attempts to address the limited literature by providing a formal,
information model for subcontractorresource management. There are three main contributions:
First, addition to the general literature on subcontractor management as a... Show more content on

For example, frequent delays result in schedule changes, so subcontractors face challenges to
manage their resources. However, existing commercial applications cannot fully represent
subcontractors (subs ) resource allocation needs well. As noted by Ibbs and Nguyen (2007), the
need for representing and capturing the practice of resource allocation is apparent and imperative.
Unfortunately, existing literature is missing a way which can detailed describe the processes of
resource allocation. There is a pressing need to provide such a representation as a basis to improve
subcontractor resource management performance.

1. There are two identical firms EQT Corp and DBT Corp except for their capital structure. For
example none of the firms pay taxes, and EBIT is $22,000 per year for both firms. There is no
growth for any of the firms. EQT is an all equity firm with 1,000 shares outstanding and expected
return of 22%. Since there is no growth, EQT will pay out all earnings to shareholders as
dividends. In contrast, DBT has $40,000 worth of debt outstanding with interest rate of 5%. There
are 500 shares of equity outstanding for DBT Corp. After the interest expense,
DBT will also pay out all the earnings to its shareholders.
(a) What are the equity values of both EQT Corp and DBT Corp? And, what are both companies
stock prices?
(b) What is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What would be the total equity value if Upjohn were 100% equity finance?
1.
(a) Since EQT is an all equity firm, its earnings are $22,000. Thus firm value is the equity value,
which is the discounted future dividends, VEQT =EEQT =$22,000/22% =$100,000. Since there
are 1,000 share outstanding, price of EQT is: PEQT
= $100,000/1,000=$100 per share. DBT is a leveled company. Since DBT and EQT are exactly the
same except for their capital structure. We can consider DBT as the leveled company of EQT.
According to MMI, when there is no tax, the value of an all equity firm should be equal to the
value of the leveled company. Therefore, we have VDBT
=VEQT = $100,000. The total equity value of DBT should be EDBT = VDBT DDBT = $100,000
$40,000 = $60,000.
Therefore, we have the stock price for DBT: PDBT = $60,000/500=$120
(b) The expected return on DBT: ($22,000 5%*$40,000)/$60,000=33.33%. Therefore DBT is
riskier than EQT since
EQT has fewer number of equityholders but bears the same total amount of risk.
(c) John s total dividend payment from holding 200 shares of EQTT Corp is $4,400
(=22%*($100*200)). Since DBT is a leveled company, you need to unlevel yourself by selling some
of your shares in DBT and deposit the proceeds at the risk free rate. Suppose you will need to sell x
shares in DBT, i.e. to deposit ($120*x), your total income flow will be
[$120*(212 x)*33.33%+$120*x*5%].

Causes Of Child Labor
Golden; Human Rights We Only Ask for Justice reads a sign designed by protesters of the 1903
march for workers rights (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones organized a march to the President
in order to fight against the injustice of child labor. Nelson Mandela walked the long road in
hopes of finding freedom for all, and Melba Pattillo Bealsworked alongside eight others to help
integrate Little Rock s Central High School, strengthening her inner warrior. These three
individuals devoted their lives to causes that are imperative, and although they all had their
separate fashions of standing up, they all were fighting for the same cause: human rights. Mother
Jones was a passionate person who strived to accomplish her central goal of abolishing child labor.
Mother Jones passionately tells a reporter, I love children (Pinkerton Josephson). Mother Jones was

fact that they weren t her own. She had tied the shoes of children, wiped their noses, hugged them

Friendship in the Kite Runner Essay
The line between a friend and an enemy is thinner than one can ever imagine. In the words of
Henry David Thoreau, True friendship is never serene (ThinkExist.com). The job of a friend is
so much more than a companion, to pass the time with. They help us shape our life, and they re
responsible to be that little voice in our ear, to help us analyze our actions and views. Through
Amir s relationships, The Kite Runner shows the true role of a friend to point and guide us even
when we don t agree; total devotion can ruin not only a friendship, but a life. In Hossini s novel,
there are plenty of examples of a true friendship, which isn t afraid to criticize and be truthful. The

Hebrew Wisdom on Diligence and Laziness There is a great deal of Hebrew wisdom in the Bible in
regards to the subjects of diligence and laziness. Throughout the book of Proverbs the words of lazy
and diligence can be found in many different forms. Sluggish, sluggard, and idle describe laziness.
The word diligence can also be considered as, thorough, attentive, and persistence. Each of these
words, found in the Bible, can reference diligence, and laziness within Hebrew Wisdom in many
cases.

A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies (Proverbs 14:24 25). Being a
diligent man does not mean to hoard what the Lord has given you, but to share the knowledge and
wisdom of God with all he comes in contact with. Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
lest you also be like him (Proverbs 26:4). This is a warning to those who walk with the Lord in
their hearts. Do not answer a fool in a foolish manner; answer them with the wisdom that God has
given you. Share the wisdom of God so they might change their ways.
The Bible paints us the picture of being diligent as one of being thorough, persistent and works
hard. They keep the ways of the Lord in their heart. Those of folly lack the sense to know the
difference in what they are doing is not the ways of the Lord. As for those that are speaking of as
lazy, they are lost and doomed to a life of strife, hardship, and ultimately final judgment to the fiery
depths. Only the wisdom of a diligent man can help save those of folly and lazy, and guide them
toward God.

With the entry of private airlines, IAL s monopoly began to decline.
With both these flagship air carriers (AIL IAL) performing poorly, the idea of a merger between
the two began to gain ground. Praful Patel submitted the merger plan to the Union Cabinet in

Persuasive Speech On Death Penalty
Comrade judges and layers: I am overjoyed to be here with you today. However, today is not a
particularly joyous occasion. Today we are talking about the future of the death penalty. Due to
new technology, access to execution drugs, or lack thereof, irreversible sentences, and
constitutional issues, lawyers all around the nation are wondering: is the death penalty actually
a good punishment, or should we simply outlaw it? To begin with, new technology has come
forth in helping lawyers prove a person guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Today, courts and
lawyers have access to DNA tests. Modern day technology can now distinguish between
individual DNA codes with great accuracy. We can use skin, saliva, blood, and/or hair samples.
Half of the cases that have used DNA evidence have confirmed the defendant as guilty. While
this can help determine who is guilty, DNA testing can also help determine if someone is not
guilty for the crimes they are being charged with. In fact, as of September 2011, 273 people,
including 17 death row inmates, have been exonerated due to new DNA evidence. 17 people
were wrongly convicted. 17 people waited for years to see their families again. 17 people were
put on death row instead of being trusted. 17 people would have been murdered for a crime they
did not commit. Without DNA testing, these seventeen lives could be in the ground by now ( DNA
). Another factor that state officials are taking into consideration is the fact that a death penalty

Analysis Of The Military Intervention In Syria
In this article, Bellamy explores the argument that the failure to intervene in Syria is due to the
controversies in Libya. Bellamy argues that there is no substantial evidence to backup this line of
reasoning. Bellamy contends that the reason behind the UN paralysis on Syria is credited to the
politics surrounding the conflict than the concerns about R2P. Although the main argument of this
article is focused on the political issues surrounding the R2P in Syria, the main part I will draw
from this article is its discussion on the military aspect between Syria and Russia. Similar to Stent

The main limitation of this article is that it was unable to provide a sound reason of how a UN
resolution would have transformed the situation as long as military means are not incorporated.
Nonetheless, this article s argument is useful as supplementary information for my research essay
since it confirms how significant the role of state s strategic and geopolitical position play when it
comes to deciding whether to intervene or not. Paris, R 2014, The Responsibility to Protect and the
Structural Problems of Preventive Humanitarian Intervention, International Peacekeeping, vol. 21
no. 5, pp. 569 603. In this article, Paris examines the assumed link between military intervention
and the desired result of preventing or ending mass atrocities. Paris uses the case study of Libya as
an example to point out the five fundamental structural problems in this logic of military
intervention to end the killing of civilians. This article is useful for my essay since the article
provides a counterargument against academics that argue in defence of the R2P. The argument
highlights how most literature on R2P is focused on the normative and legal issues, rather than
focusing on the practical complexities of how an armed intervention could protect civilians in
conflict. Moreover, he provides a good explanation about how the non consensus on the Syrian
matter can be credit to the debated legality of humanitarian intervention and R2P. The

The conclusion of a 7 year study in Victoria in 2010, found that children aged 15 and under were
5.4 times more likely to be hospitalised for sports related injuries than for road traffic injuries .
This is cause for major concern amongst the junior sporting population of Australia, with a
significant increase in sports related hospitalisations nationally each year. Eccentric factors such as

Dynasties From The Post-Classical Era, And Post Classical...
Social structure is something that has been present all over history. There are many aspects used
to define the social structure of a civilization, like race, ethnicity, class, gender, social mobility,
and religion. One civilization in particular, China, has had the social structure of its reason evolve
over time. Chinese dynasties from the Classical Era, the Post Classical Era, and the Early Modern
Period each established their own take on these categories. The dynasties from their respective time
periods each differentiated themselves from the previous time period and allowed themselves to
also have similarities between them. Chinese dynasties from the Classical Era and the Post

factors that change throughout the time periods, which are class, gender, and social mobility. In the
same way, the Ming and Qing dynasties of Chinafrom the Post Classical Era compare to the Song
and Tang dynasties from the Early Modern Period in China to define the consistencies of social
structure through class, gender, and social mobility. One of the primary aspects of social structure
in China was class. In the Classical Era, the Han and Qin dynasties ran China as a bureaucracy
based on a person s importance to society. One of the main reasons status did not pertain to the

Differences Between The Crucible Movie And Movie
The Crucible, an original play written by Arthur Miller, has had a multitude of adaptations come
out after its release in 1953. Among these adaptations are the movie, The Crucible, directed by
Nicholas Hytner and starring Daniel Day Lewis and Winona Ryder and local performances of
the play, such as the one seen at the Civic Theatre. The Crucible is about the people of Salem,
MA and trouble of the accusations of witchery after Abigail, the niece of Reverend Parris, has an
affair with the married John Proctor and he denies her when she attempts to do it again.
Specifically, Abigail s reaction to the rejection in the movie is portrayed so much more realistic
than it is in the play and the entire cast portraying their characters realistically for how it was
appropriate for the setting of the movie. Although the movie was exceptional in content, the
universal portrayal of the characters was better in the movie. Overall, The Crucible movie version,
directed by Nicholas Hytner, portrayed the characters better the play because Winona Ryder
portrayed Abigail Williams better than the written play did, and the cast as a whole worked
together to create the mood of the historical time period of both the Salem Witch Trials and the
communist era. Additionally, even though the written play was amazing due to it being first , the
movie was still better at portraying the development of the characters.

Background:
This case represents a prime example in terms of market demand and competition. Nike is one
of the world s largest athletic suppliers for a various number sports and other activities. Nike is
well established globally and has over a million employees across 42 nations. New Balance has

New Balance ranks as the fourth largest athletic footwear and apparel company in the world with

companies and it will be extremely interesting on what side the TTP takes when it comes down to

used. Users tend to choose meaningful words from dictionaries, which make textual passwords
easy to break and vulnerable to dictionary or brute force attacks. Many available graphical
passwords have a password space that is less than or equal to the textual passwordspace.Smart cards
or tokens can be stolen. Many biometric authentications have been proposed. However, users tend to
resist using biometrics because of the intrusiveness and the effect on their privacy. Moreover,
biometrics cannot be revoked.
According to research paper 3D Password A Secure Tool published by Banita Chadha in the year
2014, 3D is based on virtual environment. It includes the 3 axis x, y, and z axis. That is the
password should be in three axis along x,y,z axis. her is a term of virtual uniqueness. It includes the

actual information given by user to system it can access the same account further. Above three
concepts are valid in textual , graphical password as well as 3D password. 3D password is very
easy to use and is somehow free from shulder surfeing attack. It deals with the random selection of

The Field Of Medicine Study Biology
[T]raditional education has students focusing on one career at a time, generally encompassing a
very specific field of interest. Students interested in the field of medicine study biology and don t
generally study much outside of science. Or, students interested in music study musical theory and
learn several different instruments they don t cross over into other fields of thought. This type of
learning, however, really doesn t reflect the way the world works. It doesn t even properly reflect
human experience: many students are puzzled when it comes to choosing a field of study. They
settle on one because there hasn t been an option available that combines their interests in a
practical way, or it simply isn t shown to them.
The interactions of this world, however, revolve around many different fields of thought
combining and working together. People nowadays need to be educated in a way that properly
represents this experience: the big picture experience. They need to be able to look to the future,
expand horizons, and combine fields of interest and thought to reach a new level of innovation in
today s world.
In the fall of 2014, a new undergraduate program was created for just this kind of education. The
University of Southern California has established the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young
Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation thanks to a $70 million gift from
Jimmy Ioving and Andre Dr. DreYoung. This new program represents everything that

Essay Sherman Alexie
Sherman Alexie
The odds were against Sherman Alexie on that day in October 1966. Not only was he born a
minority, but he was also hydrocephalic. At the age of 6 months, he had a brain operation, but was
not expected to live. Though he pulled through, doctors predicted he would be severely mentally
retarded. Fortunately, they were wrong, but he did suffer through seizures and wet his bed
throughout his childhood ( What 1).
Rather than being called Native American, which he feels is a guilty white liberal term, he prefers
to be called Indian. He is a Spokane/Coeur d Alene Indian, in fact, and grew up on the Spokane
Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, Washington. To avoid being picked on by the other reservation
kids, he spent most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of Alexie s writing reflects life on the reservations today. The poverty, oppression, commodity
food, and alcoholism are the main themes in his stories. The title story of his collection The Lone
Ranger and Tonto Fist Fight in Heaven, however, deals with the life of an Indian man who has
left the reservation to live in Seattle and some of the obstacles he faces in the white world. We
never know the main character s name, probably because he feels like a nameless nobody in this
strange world. He is alienated and told that he doesn t belong even
though he is the true aborigine. When a policeman pulls him over one night and asks him where
are you supposed to be? (182), he clearly shows his alienation by thinking, I knew there were
plenty of places I wanted to be, but none where I was supposed to be (182). He realizes he is
making people nervous (183) because he doesn t fit the profile of the neighborhood (183) in which
he is driving. But it isn t just that neighborhood, or any other nice neighborhood. He wants to tell
the policeman that he doesn t fit the profile of the country, but he knows it would just get [him] in
trouble (183).
Racism also plays a role in his frustrations. Stopping by the 7 11 in the middle of the night to pick
up a Creamsicle is not always a pleasant experience. Maybe the clerk is nervous because he s
working the graveyard shift. Or maybe,

The Narrative Of The Life Of Olaudah Equiano s ``...
Slavery for many was a time of despair and anguish, it felt like hell not only by the heat of the
sun, but, by the treatment many received from their owners as well. Despite written almost 100
years apart, two of the most famous and well known slave narratives that give the modern day
reader just an idea of what slaverywas like are, Aphra Behns Oroonoko, or, The Royal Slave and
Olaudah Equianos The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano . The journey of
these two young men, although in many ways are similar, from a larger perspective could not
be more different. For Oroonoko a somewhat established young man who comes from royalty,
optimizes what it means to be a noble savage. As for a young Equiano who seems to spend most
of his childhood in slavery, must find a way to overcome the hand he has been dealt and work
hard to earn his freedom. Throughout both of these stories there are similarities and there are
differences as well. Some of the most interesting aspects that might stand out to the reader are, the
aspect of slavery and or the lack of it, suicide and how both characters go about it in their own
way and points of view and how the reader is influenced by it. One of the aspects that seems most
intriguing in both of these stories is that of slavery and or the lack of it. It is obvious that
throughout both stories, Oroonoko and Equiano are very much surrounded by slavery, however
throughout both stories the two main characters never seem to

Essay The High Commercial Use of Asbestos in Construction
Asbestos has been proved to be reliable in construction as adhesives, resistance to heat, high tensile
strength, and budget safe. There are many different types of asbestos like, amphibole and chrysotile.
The most common type is chrysotile, or white asbestos and the chemical formula is
Mg3(Si2O5)(OH)4. This chemical is often used all throughout schools making children chief
victims. Though reliable as structural support, asbestoshas been proved to be a ticking time bomb.
During the 1980s asbestos would be exposed to 35% of school children. The problem is the
asbestos flake off and become airborne in schools where teachers and students are vulnerable.
The high commercial use of asbestos was introduced around the 1980s. It played ... Show more

The Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act of 1990 states that all elementary and
secondary schools are required to inspect for asbestos, develop an asbestos management plan, and
implement such plans.

This graph proves the high relevance of asbestos in the 1980s. As time progressed the problems
with the chemical was proved. As of right now there is a ban on asbestos in commercial items.
Although, the chemical is still prevalent and attacking because the removal of it is as deadly as
the chemical itself. Its proven that, The removal process releases asbestos fibers which could result
in more cancer in the workmen than would have resulted in the usual occupants had the asbestos
been left in place. In the situation where you need to combat asbestos the best method is to wet the
asbestos causing the fibers to stay intact. When you disrupt the fibers they spread and become
exposed. It s a tricky chemical to treat and it s naturally man made for example, hidden under rocks,
resulting in the current existence.
This problem is certainly not only current in the United States. The graph above covers the
countries who are the top consumers, producers, and exporters of asbestos. Also, the countries who
Nguyen, 3
have banned the chemical. According to the graph Russia is the biggest producer and exporter.
Meanwhile, China is the biggest consumer. Although, countries with the biggest population like

Global Business Barriers
Global business is defined as the buying and selling of goods and services by people from different
countries (McWilliams Williams 2010). It also has to do with international trade and trade
agreements. Corporations that own businesses in two or more countries are called multinational
corporations (McWilliams Williams 2010). Most of these global businesses main headquarters are
found in the United States or the United Kingdom. Expanding to a global market is quite a complex
process and businesses have to take many different aspects into account such as: social/cultural,
legal, political, economic, environmental and technological factors. These components help create
an attractive business climate. Different businesses operate differently to assess these relevant
factors. Strict Import export rules and regulations also need to be followed. Entering the global
market also allows for larger competition between other similar businesses and to create trade
agreements. There are many rules and regulations when entering into the global market and with
each country having different requirements you must fulfil. These must be followed or the business
cannot enter into business in that country. Global businesses have trade barriers, which are
government imposed regulations that increase the cost and restrict the number of imported goods
(McWilliams Williams 2010). Different types of trade barriers include tariff and also non tariff
barriers such as: quotas, voluntary

Segmentation And The Domain Independent Partitioning Of An...
Segmentation The important aim of image segmentation is the domain independent partitioning of
an image into a set of disjoint regions that can be visually differentiated, homogeneous and
meaningful with respect to some characteristics or computed property such as grey level, texture
or colour to enable easy image analysis. Image segmentation is a useful tool in many realms
including industry, health care, astronomy, and various other fields. Segmentation in concept is a
very simple idea. Simply looking at an image, one can tell what regions are contained in a picture.
Is it a building, a person, a cell, or just simply background? Visually it is very easy to determine
what a region of interest is and what is not. Doing so with a computer algorithm on the other hand
is not so easy. How do you determine what defines a region? What features distinguish one region
from another? What determines how many regions you have in a given image? Discontinuity and
similarity/homogeneity are two basic properties of the pixels in relation to their local
neighbourhood used in many segmentation methods. The segmentation methods that are based on
discontinuity property of pixels are considered as boundary or edges based techniques and that are
based on similarity or homogeneity are region based techniques. We have intentionally separated
thresholding technique from region based due the usage of histogram and its simplicity. A lot of
limitations are faced while applying segmentation namely:

Management Styles
There are three main types of management styles. These are autocratic, consultative and democratic.
Autocratic
The autocratic management style is one where the manager is used to give instructions. They tell
people what to do instead of asking for their opinion on the matter in hand. The manager is the only
person contributing to the decision making process in the business.
Consultative
The consultative management style is where managers consult other people before making a
decision. This management style is the opposite to autocratic. This type of management style wants

Sainsburys Management Styles
From our interview with Emma Davis manager at the kingswood branch I found that sainsburys
operate in a democratic style as team meetings are arranged so ideas and problems can be put
forward and dealt with as a team. These meeting are mostly informal. Although Emma believed
that the company operated in a democratic style I talked to employees lower down in the company
and asked them what they thought. I got a different reaction from them, they thought that
sainsburys operated in more of an autocratic management style, whereby managers tell people
what to do instead of asking for their opinions. This is interesting to look at, the managers believe
that employees are responsible to make their own decisions and employees believe that mangers
order them to do things. I also think that in some situation sainsburys use other styles. For example
if an employee is underachieving and not contributing as much s he or she should, it is not other
employees who have to make the decision on if the guilty employee is worth keeping in the
business or not. That decision will be down to the manager.
There are several managers spreading up the hierarchy. This means that every manager (expect the
chairman) has some decisions made for him or her and other decisions they have to make. Also
these decisions are made for them so are going to involve

Essay on A Deadly Realization
A Deadly Realization
I walked into school around 8:25, rolling out of bed only a half hour before. I wiped the rain from
my face, I hate when it rains. As usual, I strolled in with a casual walk, like I was the coolest,
because I could come in late every morning since I had no first period class. The first person I
saw as I walked through the cafeteria toward the staircase was Louise. Usually an outgoing and
crazy person, she strikes many as being on crack. She calmly and quietly said quot;hey quot;,
with her face to the floor, not even looking at me. On my way up the staircase to my locker, I
passed my good friend Mike. He looked me in the face and said, quot;Did you hear? quot; I replied

I don t know what to say, so I am going to just come right out with it...Wesley Whitworth took his

heart sink as quickly as that second. Everyone in the room seemed to be hurt by the news. I guess
Wes had a special place in everyone s heart. I looked at Katie, and she looked at me. A tear rolled
down my face. Dr. Hayward began to cry, and with a weary tone went on to say, quot;that there is
nothing that can be done now...we must be strong...now we must come together as a school, and
focus on getting through this tragedy. quot;
I got to math class, and sat down. My teacher, Mr. Strotman, who I have known since I was in
elementary school, came up behind me, and rubbed my shoulder, quot; Are you alright? quot; I
picked my head up out of my arms, and just looked at him with tears flowing from my eyes. He
understood that words couldn t explain what I was feeling. Beth Ann came in and sat next to me
where she always does. I looked at her and just said quot;I don t understand...not Wes, anyone but
Wes, he had so much going for him...anyone but Wes. quot; We did nothing in class that day, and I
finally stopped crying after a few minutes. Beth Ann and I talked about it. I told her how I could
remember the last thing Wes said to me, just two nights before.

History Of National History Day District Competition
Oh, have I caught your attention? Obviously, I did, with such an eye catching blog post title like
that. Apparently Marc Gamayo beat me to a blog post of National History Day District
competition (I should have done it early, aaaaa) that took place at Ewa Makai Middle School
where participants would be interviewed for their projects and to know who are going to state
competition. Warning! Super long schedule of what I did on Saturday for NHD district
competition. Skip to end for a recap of what I did and thoughts from the experience. For my
group s interview, Quincee and me (yes, sadly there was no Jacob), to my surprise, went well. I
say this because I can say that I was prepared and there was little to no hesitation in answering or
responding to my interview, making a good impression; however, my partner only spoke once
and that was due to not being able to hear our speaker and the eye contact confused him
(Quincee). After the interview, there wasn t much to do since our interview finished at about
9:07 or so and there were no available activities, so we (Quincee and me) explored the campus a
bit more, and I have to say I m impressed; the campus was more complex, the campus displayed
wise students, and had air conditioning that was spread to pretty much every area (except the
bathroom), so sorry, (I m gonna get hate from this) I think our school is inferior to this school.
After exploring, it was about 9:35 and we headed back to the cafeteria for some reason I don

The Grand Story Of The Bible
The Bible is composed of many different stories and narratives. Each one of these individual
stories contributes to the greater story of the Bible; sometimes called the Grand Story of Scripture.
Within each Story, they have elements that define the setting, characters, climax, and themes. The
overall Grand Story of Scripture contains these elements in each of the five divisions: prologue,
epilogue, and three acts in between. The first division of the Grand Story of Scripture is the
prologue. In the prologue, readers are introduced to the setting and main character of the book, as
well as secondary characters. The setting is the Garden of Eden, where creation has just taken
place. The main character is God, the protagonist. Readers are introduced to God at the very
beginning of Genesis, when it states, In the beginning, God... Typically, readers are given a
glimpse of what the main character is like. As the Grand Story of Scripture progresses, readers are
introduced to new concepts and characteristics about God. Each of the stories within the Grand
Story have their own main characters, yet the focus is on how God is restoring back to original
goodness the mess creation got itself into. Within the prologue is the Creation story. In Genesis,
there are two different creation stories. From these accounts, readers are informed that God created
everything known and unknown, seen and unseen. In addition, each of the accounts reveals a
theological truth about God. The first

Music, Religion, and wildlife in the Life of Pi
Yann Martel s The Life of Pi is a novel set in the realm of magical realism, published in
September 2001. The film was produced by Ang Lee and tells the story of a boy of Indian
descent named Pi Patel, who is the son of a Zookeeper and loses his family when the Japanese
ship carrying the zoo animals and his family to North America sinks to the bottom of the pacific
ocean in a tragic accident. Stranded on a lifeboat with a zebra, orangutan, and a tiger, Pi does the
unthinkable to survive. The Life of Pie incorporates much of India s culture, including music,

  • 2. Avatar Imperialism Money, military, death or subordinance, these are the main elements of imperialism. Imperialism, the practice of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military force, is often thought of as negative because of the use of military force. The age of imperialism lasted from 1870 1914. One example of imperialismfrom this time period is when the countries Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Spain all took control over different parts of Africa. One movie that accurately portrays this ideal negatively is Avatar, a movie directed by James Cameron and released on December 18, 2009. Avatar is about a group of ex military soldiers that travel to Pandora, an alien life planet, and the elements of imperialism shown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sustainability Reporting Essay As a newly established area in accounting, sustainability accounting and reporting extends the traditional model of financial and non financial reporting to incorporate the company s operational information, social and environmental activities, and their ability to deal with related risks. Not only do these acts have effects on society and the environment, but they also directly impact company s financial statements. The most widely accepted definition of sustainabilitythat has emerged over time is the triple bottom line , which incorporates three key elements of performance: financial, social, and environmental viability (Slaper). These three aspects of sustainability reporting are also commonly referred to as the triple P s: people, planet, and profit. Although sustainability has often been mentioned as the goal of many businesses, nonprofits and governments over the past decade (and studies have shown that an increasing number of companies and organizations are striving to make their operations more sustainable), determining how sustainable an organization is can become difficult and also raises many questions within this sub group of accounting. Sustainability reporting has become increasingly prevalent in organizations of all types and sizes. A company or organization s sustainability report is a published report that details the economic, environmental and social impacts that are a direct result of their daily activities. These reports also depict the organization s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Ancient Inventions Of The Future The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of the ancient world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry. Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about 384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartographywas all modernized during this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our civilization. First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi democratic model Sparta had adopted. They turned to lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. High-Risk Family Assessment Snd Health Promotion Essay High Risk Family Assessment and Health Promotion Mary Ann Bennett University of Phoenix NUR/542 Melinda Church August 6, 2012 High Risk Family Assessment and Health Promotion Assessing health needs is a fundamental nursing skill. Unfortunately, many nurses only associate the assessment process to the individual patient they are caring for and fail to assess and address the needs of the entire family. Performing a family assessment is vital, especially when working with high risk individuals and groups. High risk families can be defined as those families with a higher than expected risk for developing a particular disease or injury in association to their lifestyle, environment, habits, or socio economic ... To compound the issue, often the affected veteranwill turn to high risk behaviors in an attempt to find resolution or relief including smoking, social isolation, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and the display of violent or aggressive behavior. Frequently, depression or other mental health issues arise. In a domino effect, the high risk behavior frequently leads to unemployment, habitual drug or alcohol use, poor or absent parenting, fractured family units, unsafe sex, participation in dangerous sports or driving, and in some instances, suicide. Last, stress along with the indulgence of smoking and the consumption of alcohol and drugs can also lead to chronic health issues including hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease, and digestive disorders. Assessment and Theory Application Effective treatment of PTSD can only take place if the disorder is recognized. Symptoms of PTSD are commonly divided into three defining sections: (1) reliving the traumatic event, (2) detachment and avoidance, and (3) exaggerated responses (NCBI, 2010). When a patient relives the traumatic event, it occurs in a manner in which it interferes with the normal process of daily life. This can include recurring flashbacks or dreams and distressing memories, which manifest negative physical reactions. Detachment and avoidance is demonstrated through loss of interest in current living situation, avoidance of people or places that may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Florian And Black-Hawkins Questions Of Inclusion To conceptualize inclusion is a problem that academics of education have struggled with. The aim of this essay to determine how well inclusion is conceptualised in Allan s article, Questions of Inclusion in Scotland and Europe , and Florian and Black Hawkins article, Exploring inclusive pedagogy . This essay will argue that Florian and Black Hawkins more effectively conceptualize inclusion, whilst exploring the barriers of inclusion and how to overcome them, when compared to Allan s article which lacks depth and strong arguments. Allan (2009) acknowledges that integration wasn t the final step to involving children in mainstream school. Instead, inclusion was and still is a better solution. Allan conceptualises inclusion as increasing participation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both articles note that two major barriers to inclusive practises in school are policies set at school, council and national levels, as well as how teachers interpret inclusion. Many view policy changes as the first major step to inclusive practises in school (see Carrington and Elkins, 2002; Pivik et. al., 2002). School, council and national policy on education and inclusion often clash with theory s interpretations of what inclusion is. For example, policy in schools are often based on determinist beliefs, in which bell curve thinking about ability are still enforced via agents such as school inspectors (Florian and Black Hawkins, 2011, 820) or through policy that enforces attainment as a priority (Allan, 2009, 3). Furthermore, with no universally accepted definition of inclusion (see D Alessio and Watkins, 2009), the ways in which inclusive practise is carried out becomes an individual practise, based on what the teacher believes to be inclusive. Therefore, there is no magic solution or recipe book for inclusion (Allan, 2009, 8). However, one barrier that the articles disagree over is teacher s attitudes about inclusion. Allan notes, with validity, that a widespread feeling amongst teachers is that they are not equipped to teach children with additional support needs. Allan, therefore, suggests that, in order to overcome this barrier to inclusion, teachers need additional training and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The battle of Kadesh was the climax of hostilities between Egypt and Hittite, however, the battle served as the end of Egyptian expansionism in Syria Palestine. In year twenty one of Ramesses reign peace was achieved between Egypt and Hittite as evident from inscriptions at the Ramesseum, the Hypostyle Hall at Karnak and a Hittite tablet at its capital, Hattusas. In contrast to the early part of Ramesses reign, the quotation reflects the peace and prosperity experienced by both Egypt and Hittite during this period and the stability that continued throughout the reign of Ramesses. The treaty led to a formation of an alliance, a mutual defence pact and a promise of no further aggression. Trading improved with the reopening of Phoenician ports and removal of barriers to the Euphrates brought renewed trading opportunities. Diplomacy and marriages where used to maintain friendly relations between the two sides. Gifts were exchanged and Nefertari and the Hittite queen Pudukhapa exchanged correspondence and gifts of jewels as evident from letters. Even though cultures have different myths some of them have something in common, which is a motif. The motifs that I think are the most important are the following; Most myths start with chaos, Men are always created before women, and Humans are made for organic material. Without these motifs the creation myths would be silly and would not make sense. Men were always created first because they are stronger and can withstand more than women. When the gods would make women they made them small and fragile, they were not meant to do hard labor. Every culture used this motif so that means it must be important and a smart idea to use. The main reason that women were made was to give the men company, be the men s mate, and take care of the children. While the men were out all day working of finding food for the family, while his wife would be inside watching the children and cleaning the house. Humans were made out of organic materials: Most men were made from organic materials because the gods wanted them to either be apart of them or the earth. The cultures that used this motif were most likely people that loved the earth and worshiped their god everyday. There are many cultures that use organic materials to make the humans but some materials did not work like the gods were hoping for. For example in the Yoruba creation myth the humans are made from clay, but while Obatala was making the people he was drunk and made them all deformed and ugly. Obatala was a very nice god and did not kill them he just made more people that were perfect. • 10. Quentin Tarantino s Use Of Pastiche In The Film Pulp Fiction Pastiche is a technique used in artistic works that is constructed from borrowing various elements from other texts. The strategy of pastiche is present in the film Pulp Fiction (1994) by Quentin Tarantino and the artistic photographic series Living in Hell and Other Stories by Tom Hunter. Through these artworks the audience is able to identify a range of textual works that imitate the style or character of particular artwork, film or literature. Pastiche derives from the late nineteenth century word pasticcio . This French and Italian word means a pie filled with a variety of ingredients. Similarly, a pastiche is a reference from multiple sources. It is an example of eclecticism or intertextuality in art. The meaning of the text is enhanced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pastiche used in film is generally incorporated to create a nostalgic tone. However this is not the case with Pulp Fiction as the strategy is used to pay homage and show appreciation towards 1950 s pulp fiction texts and influential films. Tarantino alludes to various aspects, techniques and scenes from other Hollywood movies into his own. Tarantino stated, I always hope that if one million people see my movie, they see one million different movies . Elements from Hollywood movies such as weapons, costumes, camera angles, themes and famous scenes are injected into Pulp Fiction . His film blurs the line between cinematic styles and genres. Intertextuality is a significant factor within Tarantino s work, as by reinventing the old he is able to preserve originality and create a sense of dimension within his work. Tarantino refers to Pulp Fiction not as a movie but as multiple movies. An example of pastiche within the film is present in the scene in which Marcellus Wallace coincidentally recognises Butch in his car while walking across the street. This action mimics the scene from Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho where Marion s boss recognises her as he crosses at traffic lights. Through this pastiche Tarantino is able to show his appreciation and influence of Hitchcock s infamous films while also applying the scene in a postmodern context. Another occurrence of pastiche appears in Butches weapon of choice; a baseball bat and chainsaw. These weapons of choice pay homage to the films Walking Tall and Texas Chainsaw Massacre ... Immediately, when I think about a tough life, I remember my beautiful grandmother, Irene Martinez. Bravery, courage, and strength are the words that describe this wonderful woman. She faced different challenges during the sixty five years she lived. For example, the loss of her father when she was only thirteen years old. Even though she was a little girl experiencing the harshness of life, she never gave up. The loss of loved ones, sickness, and pain were some of the challenges she had to face and overcome throughout the years. Losing a loved one is heartbreaking. Edna, defying race, sex, and class, inspired women across the world to pursue their own sexuality and independence ( Elfenbein). In the end, the theme of solitude as the consequence of independence arises because of the fact that the main character, Edna Pontellier, senses a feeling of solitude after becoming independent that led to her suicide (SparkNotes). • 13. The Lecture At The Angelica Library The Opportunity in Lecturing Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others, developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and reflecting upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it. As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions to the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on the subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at Ithaca College during my speaking section. Police Officer shoots unarmed teen to death who is violently attacking an officer. Which one is a catchier headline? The first one may attract ratings or sell newspapers but it is not only unfair to the police, it is also unfair to the public being fed this type of information. For years, news outlets have been bad mouthing policeand their tactics because it makes for good stories. This type of coverage is dangerous because it may cause police to not act as quickly as they should, and it gives the public the wrong understanding about police use of force. The Police use of force continuum can be easily understood by the public but, that will require knowledge of the subject matter to include reasons as to why police stop certain individuals and proper ways to treat police during an encounter. The use of force continuum is basically a stair step of levels of force an officer can use to defend themselves and/or effect an arrest. The use of force continuum starts with the level of force known as officer presence. An example of this is when an officer arrives on scene, and his or her mere presence causes the subject or subjects to comply. If an officer arrives at a bar fight and the subjects are actively fighting until they observe the officer then the use of force level was successful. The next level in the use of force continuum is verbal commands. Police officers will generally combine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Baruch Spinoza s Anti Anthroponcentric View Essay When Baruch Spinoza composed his philosophical masterpiece, the Ethics, he knew that his ideas (particularly those of God) would be considered heretical in the extreme, leading to any number of unpleasant consequences. This was the reason that the Ethics were published in 1677, posthumously (p.97)1. His apprehensions are well justified in the light of what he writes in the Appendix (p.145 149) to Part1: Concerning God (p.129 145) regarding the prejudices present in the minds of human beings. For, it is here that Spinoza directly challenges the prevalent religious orthodoxy and seeks to remove the very dogma that was the basis of their power. The argument regarding (1) above, is undoubtedly the most crucial and (not surprisingly) the most heretical of Spinoza s unabashed critique of contemporary religion. The (main) reason for (1) turns out to be (as we shall see) the creation of God in the image of Man by people in their vain attempts to understand the nature of the Universe. This anthropomorphisation of God and the parallel anthropocentric view of the universe, is in essence what Spinoza concludes to be the reason for (1). The argument follows shortly (based upon p.145 6). The key to answering (1) above, is what Spinoza calls The Doctrine of Final Causes (henceforth referred to simply as the Doctrine ). This doctrine is essentially the process by which the above creation takes place. Firstly, people come into being without definite knowledge of causal relationships between things. Further, they have a strong belief in the freedom of their own will, and this belief arises from their conscious knowledge of their desires and from what they perceive as their (essentially) unstoppable drive in fulfilling them. Also, they have no inclination to investigate the cause for these desires to exist in the first place. Finally (Spinoza says), people are always focussed on their final goals, ... In contrast, DBT has $40,000 worth of debt outstanding with interest rate of 5%. There are 500 shares of equity outstanding for DBT Corp. Thus firm value is the equity value, which is the discounted future dividends, VEQT =EEQT =$22,000/22% =$100,000. Since there are 1,000 share outstanding, price of EQT is: PEQT = $100,000/1,000=$100 per share. DBT is a leveled company. Since DBT and EQT are exactly the same except for their capital structure. We can consider DBT as the leveled company of EQT. According to MMI, when there is no tax, the value of an all equity firm should be equal to the value of the leveled company. Therefore, we have VDBT =VEQT = $100,000. The total equity value of DBT should be EDBT = VDBT DDBT = $100,000 $40,000 = $60,000. Therefore, we have the stock price for DBT: PDBT = $60,000/500=$120 (b) The expected return on DBT: ($22,000 5%*$40,000)/$60,000=33.33%. Therefore DBT is riskier than EQT since EQT has fewer number of equityholders but bears the same total amount of risk. There are many aspects used to define the social structure of a civilization, like race, ethnicity, class, gender, social mobility, and religion. One civilization in particular, China, has had the social structure of its reason evolve over time. Chinese dynasties from the Classical Era, the Post Classical Era, and the Early Modern Period each established their own take on these categories. The dynasties from their respective time periods each differentiated themselves from the previous time period and allowed themselves to also have similarities between them. Chinese dynasties from the Classical Era and the Post Classical Era are able to determine the factors of social structure that remain consistent and the factors that change throughout the time periods, which are class, gender, and social mobility. In the same way, the Ming and Qing dynasties of Chinafrom the Post Classical Era compare to the Song and Tang dynasties from the Early Modern Period in China to define the consistencies of social structure through class, gender, and social mobility. One of the primary aspects of social structure in China was class. In the Classical Era, the Han and Qin dynasties ran China as a bureaucracy based on a person s importance to society. The Crucible is about the people of Salem, MA and trouble of the accusations of witchery after Abigail, the niece of Reverend Parris, has an affair with the married John Proctor and he denies her when she attempts to do it again. Specifically, Abigail s reaction to the rejection in the movie is portrayed so much more realistic than it is in the play and the entire cast portraying their characters realistically for how it was appropriate for the setting of the movie. Although the movie was exceptional in content, the universal portrayal of the characters was better in the movie. Overall, The Crucible movie version, directed by Nicholas Hytner, portrayed the characters better the play because Winona Ryder portrayed Abigail Williams better than the written play did, and the cast as a whole worked together to create the mood of the historical time period of both the Salem Witch Trials and the communist era. Segmentation The important aim of image segmentation is the domain independent partitioning of an image into a set of disjoint regions that can be visually differentiated, homogeneous and meaningful with respect to some characteristics or computed property such as grey level, texture or colour to enable easy image analysis. Image segmentation is a useful tool in many realms including industry, health care, astronomy, and various other fields. Segmentation in concept is a very simple idea. Simply looking at an image, one can tell what regions are contained in a picture. Is it a building, a person, a cell, or just simply background? Visually it is very easy to determine what a region of interest is and what is not. Doing so with a computer algorithm on the other hand is not so easy. How do you determine what defines a region? What features distinguish one region from another? What determines how many regions you have in a given image? Discontinuity and similarity/homogeneity are two basic properties of the pixels in relation to their local neighbourhood used in many segmentation methods. The segmentation methods that are based on discontinuity property of pixels are considered as boundary or edges based techniques and that are based on similarity or homogeneity are region based techniques. We have intentionally separated thresholding technique from region based due the usage of histogram and its simplicity. A lot of limitations are faced while applying segmentation namely: ...
