Minoan Civilization Essay
The Minoan civilization was founded in 3000 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE, whereas the Mycenaean
civilization was founded in 1900 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE (Matthews, Noble, Platt, 2014). The
Minoan and Mycenaean cultures are found to be in present day Greeks as DNA has revealed to be
similar in early farmers (Reich, 2017).
The Minoans were the first literate civilization in Europe. One key aspect of the Minoan and
Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later was writing. Linear A, a syllabic system that
cannot be read by anyone except the Minoans, however, the Mycenaeans produced thousands of
Linear B tablets, that contained documents for the government, as well as the Iliad and Odyssey
(Matthews et al, 2014). Both Linear A and B are from a syllabic system, which are like the Greek
letters. Another key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later
were metals, such as bronze, copper, tin, silver, and gold (Matthews et al, 2014). These metals were
used for military weapons such as swords, spears, daggers, and others, the chariots with the horse and
wheel. Throughout the ages and eras, metals improved, as well as what they were used for. ... Show

from the gods and goddesses, heroes and kings, and myths and legends (Matthews et al, 2014). The

Impact Of Entertainment In Ancient Greece
La vie doit être vécue comme une pièce de théâtre, Plato. Translated to our language this quote means,
Life must be lived as a play. In Ancient Greece, entertainment was very important. The Greeks felt
that entertainment would help them honor their gods. Entertainment brought the people of Greece
together and made them socialize more to one another. All of the entertainment the Greeks created
strongly impacts our lives today. In our opinion, without their creations, we would not have theatres,
plays, poetry, festivals, or even the Olympics. In the Fourth century, the Greeks raised interest in fine
arts. Public speakers gave their lectures about the brilliance and style that an earlier age had spent on
drama and poetry. They also talked about religion and everyday politics. Religion affected nearly all
aspects of Greek life. Families celebrated important events, like birth, marriage, and death, with
prayers, sacrifices, and rituals. There were many religious festivals, but they were not really
entertainment. The most important form of entertainment would be poetry. Poetry was based on
storytelling, which captured exciting and tragic events. This spiraled into more emotional and personal
stories turning them into poetry. Poetry almost became a second religion to the people of Greece. To
the Greeks, poetry became their first resort to reflect on their feelings and remember daily events that
had happened. Bards, who are professional storytellers would go from place to place and recite poems
to groups of people. This form of entertainment lasted for thousands of years. It is because of this
form of entertainment that we now have Greek Myths. Music was probably the second most important
form of entertainment. Stated by Plato, Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to
the imagination, and life to everything. Music was important to the Greeks, if a man had something
important to say, he often said it in verse. This meant that he would sing it in song. Almost all Greek
poetry was sung or spoken to music. The music would be accompanied by a flute or lyre, as they were
the most popular type of instrument. Young boys would learn how to play the lyre. Once they learned

Acute Bronchitis And Common Respiratory Disease
Acute bronchitis is one of the most common diagnoses encountered in a primary care setting. It affects
millions of individuals resulting in significant impact on health of patients and health care industry.
Studies have shown that 90% of times acute bronchitis is caused by a virus, yet health care providers
are failing to treat or manage these patients with appropriate therapies (Knutson Braun, 2002). The
focus of this paper is to review the guidelines for treatment of acute bronchitis after differentiating
acute bronchitis from other common respiratory disease in terms of epidemiology, pathophysiology,
clinical features, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, complications and patient education. Understanding
the evaluation and treatment guidelines, nurse practitioners can provide evidence based practice for
patients with acute bronchitis. Epidemiology and significance of the problem Acute bronchitis is one
of the five top reasons to seek medical care in the United States. The incidence of acute bronchitis is
typically higher in fall and winter season, accounting for 82% of the cases (Fayyaz, 2014). It affects
full spectrum of population including any age group, gender and demographics. The incidence of
acute bronchitis accounts for 36 million office visits annually (Blush, 2013). Although it can be seen
in variety of patients, children tend to get acute bronchitis as many 6 times a year where as adults
acquire about two to four on average every year (Blush, 2013). These

The Zika Virus Through Latin America And The Caribbean
The most recent outbreak of the Zika Virus through Latin America and the Caribbean, and its
association with microcephaly in newborns has attracted significant attention from researchers and
health specialists. In 2013 and 2015, large outbreaks of the virus were respectively reported in French
Polynesia and Brazil. In 1947, The Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in Rhesus monkeys. It
was then identified in humans in 1952 in some parts of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania
The virus, also known as ZIKV, is an arbovirus of the Flaviviridae family, and is closely related to
dengue, yellow fever and Chikungunya viruses (Al Qahtani et al., 2016.); an arbovirus refers to a
group of viruses transmitted by arthropod vectors (MedicineNet.com, 2016). The Zika disease is
caused by the Zika virus that is primarily transmitted through a bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
Though the incubation period of Zika is not clear, it is estimated to be around 2 7 days after the bite of
an infected Aedes mosquito (World Health Organization, 2016).
Symptomatic signs of the disease are mild fever, skin rashes, malaise, conjunctivitis and muscle and
joint pain (World Health Organization, 2016). Because the virus has mild symptoms and no associated
fatalities, it goes undiagnosed in several cases. In newborns, however, the virus causes neurological
and developmental conditions, including but not limited to Guillain Barre syndrome and
microcephaly. To fully understand the mechanisms of

Analysis Of Aetna s Workplace Culture
Culture
Aetna s workplace culture stands as a model to other organizations, regardless if they are an insurance
company or not. The CEO s mantra on having a successful workplace simply states let s invest in our
people (Aetna CEO: Let s, 2015). Bertolini himself was no stranger to struggle in his personal life,
having his son beat an incurable cancer as well as he himself getting into a skiing accident where he
was given his last rites (O Donnell, 2015). Having gone through these life altering events, his outlook
on how employees should be treated and the resources they should have access to surpasses those of
other organizations. This prompted open communication between all employees, allowing for
everyone to freely speak what they thought of their work conditions. Enabling employees to have
more input on decisions strengthens their alliance to the company and also makes them feel like they
are a valued piece of the organization. The most talked about change for the betterment of employees
by far was his announcement to raise the minimum wage to $16, in addition to lowering out of pocket
costs for their health care without having to pay more in premiums (O Donnell, 2015). This
demonstration of how the company cares about its employees went over wonderfully with the low
wage workers, as they now have a higher take home pay, as well as better health insurance coverage
from their organization which they could not previously afford. To go along with increasing wages,

Cultural Significance Of Cultural Culture Essay
The studies into culture have been on going and the importance of cultural significance in societies
has increased in recent years due to the changing dimensions of the world we live in. Globalization
itself has had a very profound effect on cross cultural interactions through progression in the fields of
communication and technology that allow the formation of virtual work teams, the elimination of
borders in trade, increased labour mobility and migration between countries. While theorists over the
years have tried to define culture, it is important to note that cultural experts themselves have stressed
the difficulty of defining the concept without touching into different ideas and theories that contradict
each other (Browaeys and Price, 2008). Hofstede (2001) defines culture as the collective programming
of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another . In his
book International Management (2003), Tayeb adds to the literature defining culture as historically
evolved values, attitudes and meanings that are learned and shared by the members of community and
which influence their material and non material way of life . Some of the most commonly identified
elements of culture are values, attitudes, rituals and shared meanings that are developed by individuals
over the course of their lives through education, regional and national influences (Hofsede et al, 1991;
Schwartz, 1992; Trompenaars and Hampden Turner, 1997). Having

Italian Boys at Fort Missoula, An Alien Place, Imprisoned Apart, and The Historical Museum at Fort
Missoula discuss treatment of Japanese Americans interned at Fort Missoula. Italian Boys discusses it
from the perspective of an Italian internee. He saw no difference in behavior towards Italians versus
Japanese Americans. He believed the Italians received fair treatment, therefore so did the Japanese
Americans, which contrasts other sources. An Alien Place provides an all around view on how the
Japanese Americans were treated and why. Imprisoned Apart focuses on the joys and sorrows felt by
one Japanese American in a more personal way than any other sources do. Because it is written in

For starters, because there were teenagers at Heart Mountain, there was a high school for their
education. According to Mamoru Inouye, students at the high school were able to compete against
area high schools and treated well by opponents. There were even Japanese Americans on other teams
that were not interned since it was not the west coast. Caucasian teachers at Heart Mountain quickly
cycled through because of poor government handling of the school. Consequently, Japanese American
teachers were not paid as well as their Caucasian counterparts (58 60). Secondly, many internees had
jobs, though their pay was low. Money made at these jobs could be used to buy essentials in camp
stores (Bent). The third difference was food quality. At first, the food was terrible at Heart Mountain.
However, it improved and it was discovered people working in administration had stolen food
intended for internees (Bent). Finally, the government considered internees for the draft. Officials
devised two questions to determine their eligibility: (1) if they were willing to renounce loyalty to the
Japanese emperor and (2) if they were loyal to the U.S. Many people answered no to these questions
due to their resentment of getting their rights

Civil War Inventions
Civil War Essay
There are many inventions from the Civil War that we have improved upon and that we still use today.
Some of these inventions include hot air balloons, Long Range Weapons, Warships, torpedoes, and the
Gatling Gun. But three inventions from the Civil War that we still use today are railroads, telegraphs,
and Long Range Weapons. Today, though all these have been improved upon, these inventions are still
used to help our country grow.
Railroads are a form of transportation which isn t used as much anymore, but in the Civil War, it was a
very important way of transportation. The transcontinental railroad was invented around the Civil War
and was a faster way to transport goods, troops, and people. The Civil War was also the first war in US
history to use railroads because they were important in moving troops and goods faster. The Civil War
was the first war to use railroads, encouraged by President Lincoln himself a former railroad lawyer
who understood how vital they were for moving men and supplies
(http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/feature/civil war innovations/). The North also had an
advantage as far as trains came with 20,000 miles of track compared to the south s 9,000. The north
also had their own locomotive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse in 1844, and telegraph wires soon sprang up all along
the East Coast (http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/feature/civil war innovations/). During the
Civil War, there were 15,000 miles of cables laid for the telegraph, mainly for military reasons. The
telegraph also helped news reporters to be able to spread the news more quickly. Obviously now we
don t use telegraphs anymore, but since the Civil War technology has developed and now the
telegraph has basically become the telephone. Today, we have updated the telegraph to fit modern
society, but the basic principle of the telegraph is still used

Essay On The Confessions By St. Augustine
In St. Augustine s The Confessions, St. Augustine discusses his interpretation of evil and the ways in
which it changed throughout the course of his life. Prior to becoming a Christian, Augustine viewed
evil from the Manichean perspective as a substance or mass that opposed good. Later in life, when
Augustine converted to Christianity, he discovered that evil was not a substance, but rather the
absence of good. I found Augustine s Christian view of evil helpful in understanding real life evils
because it provides optimism in that it shows that everything was made for good. St. Augustine first
began investigating evil in Carthage when he stumbled upon the Manicheans. At this point in
Augustine s life, he was in search of truth and began exploring different philosophies that would
provide him with answers. After observing the beliefs of the Manicheans, Augustine found their views
enlightening and started incorporating their ideas into his own life. The Manicheans believed evil was
a substance that opposed good. Augustine describes how they envisioned evil as a dark, deformed
mass, [] creeping about through the earth (5.10.20). They challenged the Christian belief that God was
all powerful by saying that if this were true, then evil would not exist because God would have
destroyed it. These views repelled Augustine from the Catholic faith. When reflecting on these views
later in life, Augustine explains their flaws and how his power of sight was restricted to seeing

Woman Work By Maya Angelou Analysis
At a young age, Maya Angelou realized the worth of words when an incident caused her to stop
speaking at the age of seven. She was sexually assaulted by her mother s boyfriend and when she
confided in her uncles about the rape, they murdered him out of rage. She believed that words were
powerful and during the time that she did not speak, she began to grow a liking towards books and
poetry. Prior to her writing career, Maya Angelou worked various professions such as being a waitress,
cook, and a madam who managed prostitutes ( Angelou ). Later, she went on to becoming a singer and
a dancer and appeared at the nightclub, the Purple Onion. There her pen name Maya Angelou was
born. Her writing career began when she published her autobiographical novel, I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings and from the success of the book, she continued to publish her poems. Maya
Angelou s personal story influences her works, In her writings, Angelou has often aimed to speak for
all African Americans by concentrating on her own experiences and feelings ( Angelou ). Maya
Angelou s works connect to her ancestors and the racial discrimination she herself went through. The
themes of slavery and connection to nature are manifested in her poem, Woman Work. The narrator
reveals that she is a slave as she lists the chores she is expected to accomplish and one of them was to
toil on the farm, The cane to be cut/...And the cotton to pick (Angelou, Woman 153). Slaves in the

Tattooing in Samoa
Introduction: why does this matter? Origin story and meaning The Samoans are an ethnic group that
reside in Oceania, on the islands of Samoa, in an area of Polynesia. Samoa has been occupied by these
indigenous people for about 3000 years, when they came from the west, occupying the islands of Fiji
and Tonga around the same time (Barnes and Hunt 2005, 243). They carry many traditions with their
culture, however, I will be discussing their tradition of tattooing. Tattooing is the process of inserting
ink pigment into someone s skin to create a permanent design on them. For Samoans, tattoos are much
more significant than just a pretty piece of artwork, they are, according to Ryman (2004), a right of
passage. I will be reviewing the importance of cultural tattoos, the process of being tattooed, and the
varying origin stories of how tattooing first came to Samoa. Samoan tattooing matters because it is a
cultural tradition that has been practiced in Samoa for over 3000 years (Ellis 2006, 698).
Demographics:
Samoa is divided into two, separate nations, The Independent State of Samoa (referred to as Samoa)
and Territory of American Samoa (referred to as American Samoa). Samoa, formerly known as
Western Samoa, is an independent nation based on a unitary parliamentary democracy, which consists
of a legislative, executive, and judiciary branch (Government of Samoa). Samoa is made up of two,

What Is Svidrigailov s Superiority
Intro: While Crime and Punishment was written originally as a way to warn against drinking, there are
many other more important topics written into it, one such topic is superiority. Throughout Crime and
Punishment, Dostoevsky explores the ideas of superiority and perceived superiority leading to a belief
that one transcends moral law. This idea is established most prominently in the protagonist,
Raskolnikov, but it is also prevalent in some of the other characters, specifically Svidrigailov and
Luzhin. The fact that is appears in a minor character (Luzhin) serves to further illustrate the point. The
perceived superiority inevitably ends in the downfall of the character who believes himself to be
superior. Claim 1: The first character that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Svidrigailov is the third character that Dostoevsky explores superiority through. He is different from
both Luzhin and Raskolnikov, in fact, he has traits of both characters. He is a more major character
like Raskolnikov but is of a high station like Luzhin. Svidrigailov is regarded as a man who has
money but also has a dark side. Svidrigailov s dark side and his outlook on life is believed to be what
brought about his downfall. He feels that the world is an evil place and thus to be a part of it, one must
be truly evil as well. It is from this that he can rape a 15 year old mute girl then feel nothing when she
hangs herself. This is a new degree of superiority, Svidrigailov believes that the purpose of life is to
give him pleasure and that this pleasure can come at any cost. Svidrigailov believes that he flies far
above moral law in this instance but there are parts of his instant gratification that can be good. If we
focus on his charitable acts, they come from the sense of pleasure that comes in the moment he gives
away money such as his donation to the Marmeladov family. His infatuation with Dounia is another
factor that leads him to donate to the Marmeladov family as he is attempting to trick Raskolnikov and
Dounia into thinking he is a good person. This is a form of superiority as he believes himself to be
mentally superior and able to trick

Night Reflection Paper
The Holocaust, lasting from 1933 to 1945, was a period of time when German Nazis sent Jews,
Gypsies, and others ostracized by the Nazis to concentration camps. They were sent to die, and in turn
the prisoners got their identity stripped from them. Elie Wiesel, a survivor of the Holocaust was 15
when his town was relocated to the camp Auschwitz. For 11 months, Elie moved from one camp to the
next, escaping Death with the skin of his teeth each time. After being liberated in April 1945, Elie
went on to write books about his experience, and to even win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. In Elie s
book Night, he writes about his identity being stripped from himself by the SS officers working in the
concentration camps. Right from the first few days at camp, Elie witnessed how SS officers decided
who got to live and die merely by the smallest discrepancy in their posture, whether it was a quivering
finger on the trigger, or the brisk flick of a baton, telling prisoners which side of a forked path to
follow; one leading to the crematorium. With his father, Elie met Dr. Mengele at the center of a
crossroad; he was holding a conductor s baton and was surrounded by officers. The baton was moving
constantly, sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left (Wiesel 31). Dr. Mengele got to choose life or
death of the prisoners merely by his own preference, making the prisoners seem nothing more than
play pretend dolls or wide eyed pigs on their way to the slaughterhouse. After being assigned

Talented Play Builder
To be a credible play builder I feel as though you have to be talented in all three areas; good at
improvising, being a good actor and good at collaborating with other actors. They are very important
to being an effective play builder because they all have important attributes involved which help
benefit the play builder for it to be successful.
Being a good actor is important in this circumstance in my opinion because, being talented at the one
thing that is involved with a play it beneficial, the play builder is able to place themselves in the shoes
of the actor and will be able to see the positives and the strengths of each of the actors and be able to

Collaboration is important because another party may have a better line or idea that works better with
the scene or the script. This can also help with character development by creating greater aspects and
backing stories towards the characters. Being good at collaboration also means being good at
cooperation and team work so these skills not only benefit play building but helps advance an actor to
become better in who they are. Working with other play builders can be difficult but also teaches to be
patient and understanding towards other play builders and helps create a relationship by listening and
joining ideas to make one great piece that suits all.
In conclusion, I believe that all three of these aspects are important to being a skilled and great play
builder because being a good actor involves being able to develop a character, being a good
improviser helps a play builder be a quick thinker and shows how creative one can be on the spot and
how fast a scene can be altered, and being great at collaborations because this involves teamwork and
cooperation, due to the fact that being able to work with someone else can help advance a piece and or
a character. These skills should be acquired to be an effective play

The Tang empire was originally the Sui dynasty. The Li family had seen an opportunity to take over

expanding the empire. The Tang empire had a formidable army and impressive art works that

Soon enough, the government took away the use of paper money and replaced it with taxes and
financial incentives. Although the Tang and Song had this similar achievement of credit, the empires
had different forms of printing as well. The innovations of woodblock printing and movable type
printing were revolutionary during the Tang and Song empire, with the invention of woodblock
printing originating in the Tang empire, and movable type originating in the Song empire. Woodblock
printing was a process of block printing on paper , and became widespread across China after Tang
influence. Due to this widespread influence, the Song empire made a technical change to woodblock
printing, and created the movable type method. This method allows the mass production of test
preparation books as well as an increase in the obtainability of printed books.
A political achievement similarity the Tang and Song empire share is experiencing a change in empire
size. The Tang empire, originating in Central Asia had extended its power into Inner Asia, causing the
empire to increase in size dramatically. Soon enough, the Tang were defeated by an army of Arabs,
Turks, and Tibetans, which prevented the Tang from expanding their empire westward, resulting in
growth to cease. The Song empire, also experiencing a change in empire size, had to shift south of the

there was always a place where people who felt as if they were different than most people and felt as if

usually a bar. The LGBT community could go to these bars and find a place where they could just live

fact that it was a designated place for the police of the major cities to harass the LGBT community and

landing gear leg and two main landing gear legs. When using a tricycle gear, around 13% of the total
weight of the airplane acts down on the nose landing gear and 87% acts down on the main landing
gear. The weight distribution depends on the position of the center of gravity. The center of gravity on
the A320 must be between 17% and 38, 5% on the Mean Aerodynamic Chord (MAC). The location of

Ama Ata Aidoo Feminism Analysis
Ama Ata Aidoo s Feminism and Pan Africanism Ama Ata Aidoo is an outstanding black and female
writer. She is a pan Africanist and a feminist but she doesn t use these adjectives separately. She
combines her racial and sexual identity to produce a mixed ideology of feminist pan Africanism. This
is especially significant because the pan Africanism discourse, like all political discourses, is generally
dominated by the male. She becomes one of the strongest female voices in this discourse and she
brings another point of view to pan Africanism. Her point of view suggests that feminism and pan
Africanism are essentially bound together and they need to be dealt together. In order to do so, Aidoo
constructs literarily strong female characters and she transmits her pan Africanist ideas through a
woman based perspective by using her characters and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to her family and the people she grew up among, she knows that the African people are
already feminists at heart, despite the fact that there are lots of things to improve. Since she learnt
feminism in Africa, she believes that feminism is a fundamental part of the Africa and it cannot be
separated from Africa. Besides, she also thinks that the rationality behind feminism and pan
Africanism are essentially the same, because both suggests a certain group of people having control of
their own lives. Thus, it is intellectually meaningless to separate one from another. Therefore, Ama
Ata Aidoo knows that liberation of the women also means liberation and solidarity of the African
people. She combines feminism and pan Africanism and creates her feminist pan Africanist ideology.
In order to transmit her ideology, Aidoo constructs strong feminine narratives in her plays and through
her characters, by using feminine images and notions, she reveals the relationship between feminism
and pan Africanism and that they are eventually bound

There is never really a definite answer to who really created rock n roll. It wasn t Elvis, and it wasn t
Chuck Berry. Its widely believed that the first rock n roll single was Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston.
Most people think that rock n roll started from The Blues, but Larry Birnbaum says that it comes from
Rhythm Blues. It eventually evolved into the typical rock sounds of the 50s and 60s that we know, like
Chuck Berry s Johnny B. Goode and Elvis Presley s Jailhouse Rock. That eventually led to bands
from the 70s and early 80s like The New York Dolls and Led Zeppelin which were more of Glam
Rock. Hair metal was influenced from the glam rock of the 70s. Glam Rock was basically a step down
from Hair Bands. They wore more feminine clothes, like heels and pantyhose. Hair Bands didn t
exactly wear heels and pantyhose, but they adopted the look of wearing makeup, the strange clothes,
and most importantly the hair. Quiet Riots Metal Health album was the first Hair Metal album to reach
number 1 on The Billboard charts. That made way for the rest of the genre and caused its rise to fame.
The television program MTV also helped with the genre and the show rise to fame quickly. MTV was

Water Fluoridation Research Paper
Water fluoridation came about in 1945 when Grand Rapids, Michigan came to be the first foremost
town in the world whose water was artificially fluoridated. The lead up of fluoridation of water started
in 1901, when dentist Dr. Frederick McKay discovered the natives of Colorado had brown stains
covering their teeth. In 1902, Dr. J.M. Eager also became aware of a similar condition in Naples. Over
the next few years, McKay came to learn of multiple cases suggesting that the water supply may be
accountable for the discolouration.
In 1931, a chemist by the name of H.V. Churchill, who was involved with the Aluminium Company of
America (ACOA), believed that there could be a connection between the mottling and the existence of
the element aluminium in the water. However the water was tested where the ALCOA extracted the
majority of the aluminium and found extremely high levels of fluoride were encountered, that being
13.7 ppm. Churchill advised McKay on the matter who immediately collected more water samples
from various towns where dental problems were an issue. From his recordings McKay found that the
high concentration of fluoride found in the water was in fact resulting in the discolouration of teeth.
In New Zealand, Hastings was the first town to establish water fluoridation in 1954. Today fluoridated
water is consumed by under half the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Sunss
Great authors use literary elements to develop novels. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam, born
out of wedlock, lives in Afghanistan. Afghan society refers to children born out of wedlock as a
harami , Nana, her mom, emphasizes this to Mariam constantly. Later on in the novel, Laila, Mariam s
sister wife has a harami herself. Khaled Hosseini uses characterization and tone to compare and
contrast the ways Nana and Laila cope with having a harami, showing that Laila overcomes the
stereotype. Hosseini uses characterization of Mariam through Nana s upbringing to develop the
subject of self doubt. Mariam, born out of wedlock, becomes shamed and targeted by her mother,
Nana. Nana always told her that she was an illegitimate person who would never have legitimate
claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, and acceptance (4). Not
knowing any better, Mariam believes that she does not deserve the same personal rights as everyone
because of her social status, even though she cannot control that. Nana blamed Mariam for the
embarrassment, guilt, and shame of having a harami, making Mariam feel at fault. Nana makes
Mariam feel lonely, undeserving, and insecure, because of her status, which she did not choose.
Always dealing with Nana s harsh words, it did not occur to young Mariam to ponder the unfairness of
apologizing for the manner of her own birth (7). Nana s hurtful words guilted Mariam into taking the
blame over things she did not cause or

Anyone Lived In A Pretty Town Analysis
Cummings casual and vernacular punctuation and repetition in [anyone lived in a pretty town]
narrows the gap between himself and the readers by conveying his message more authentically. He
applied plenty of parentheses into his poem and relies heavily on enjambment while two complete
sentences and seven parentheses appeared. Authors often use parentheses to make comment and
emphasize a point, so in Cummings casual, he adds a large amount of comments to his content. As an
illustration, he writes, anyone lived in a pretty how town / (with up so floating many bells down) , and
the content in the parentheses comments to the previous line saying that life and death occurs all the
time in this town. Moreover, many alternated repetition, those

Manorialism Dbq
Economic systems have been enforced in society to create order. Therefore various systems have
influenced many nations, regions, and groups of people throughout the course of history. Manorialism
is one primary example that demonstrates the influences an economic system can have on a nation. It
was a prominent system throughout the Middle Ages in Western Europe. Manorialism is considered
the economic side of feudalism, a political system where kings in Europe gave away land to nobles in
return for their loyalty, military service and labor.
Another essential example is mercantilism which was dominant during the Age of Exploration.

Gold and silver brought the great wealth of European nations as well as the enslavement of the African
people. This is demonstrated in an excerpt from a letter written in 1559 by Michele Soriano he states,
...great quantities of gold and silver are no longer found upon the surface of the earth, as they have
been in past years; and to penetrate into the bowels of the earth requires greater effort... the Spaniards
are not willing to do the work themselves, and the natives cannot be forced to do so... it is necessary to
acquire negro slaves [enslaved Africans], who are brought from the coasts of Africa . Spain s
interactions with its colonies in the Americas were frequent, therefore resources such as gold and
silver began to reduce, this is why they had to dig deeper into the earth. Therefore it was essential for
Europe to get laborers to work in the mines colonies because Spaniards were unwilling to do the work
and the Native Americans were unable to do work due to the Emperors freed them. Michele Soriano
also writes, The fifth part of all that is produced goes to the king, but since the gold and silver is

Essay on Data Encryption
Data Encryption
I. What is Data Encryption?
Data encryption describes the transformation of plain text into a different format that is meaningless
read by human eye without being decrypted, so called cipher text, in order to prevent any
unauthorized party to obtain information from the document.
According to the Webster dictionary, cryptography is the practice and study of data encryption and
decryption encoding data so that it can only be decoded by specific individuals. Crypto is derived
from the Greek word kruptos, to hide, from kruptein, which means hidden and secret. In the old days,
people attempted to withhold certain information as their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next breakthrough in the encryption history happened in 1500BC in Assyria. Intaglio was used by
Assyrian merchants to identify themselves in their business transactions. Intaglio is a piece or flat
stone or gem that has some sort of pattern, designs or writing engraved on its surface that uniquely
identify its owner. The idea of intaglio is very brilliant and people around the world started to use
intaglio in their trade businesses and even as a popular form of identifications in any written
documents in human history until the past century. In fact, the concept of Intaglio is so good that
modern technology created digital signature based on it. Following, there were many other significant
inventions and progresses in the cryptography history: Skytales by Greeks, long leather strips that
wrapped around when the person writes and reads; Nomenclator, manipulations of alphabets and etc.
Notice that the US had not yet been mentioned in the ancient history of cryptography. The US did not
contribute much at all to the growth until 18th century AD. In 1790, Thomas Jefferson invented a
wheel cipher with the help of mathematician Dr. Robert Patterson. This wheel cipher is an elaborate
form of code system and this invention make Thomas Jefferson the pioneer of American
Cryptography. This invention was later on enhanced and modified; a couple generations later, it was
used in World War II.

The Foundation Of The Roman Culture Essay
Nathaniel Spina HIST 103 T/R 3:50 5:15 History Question #2 Question 1 The foundation of the
Roman culture had a strong Etruscan influence due to their taking control of Rome circa 650 BC. The
Etruscans transformed Rome into an actual, functioning city through urban planning and civil
engineering projects. Although the Etruscans were hostile in their take over, the Romans would not
have accomplished what they did alone. It was not until circa 500 BC that Rome successfully shook
off Etruscan rule. Once they were free, the Romans established a republic, a form of government also
to be used by many countries later. Rome set up a constitution consisting of a senate, consuls and
tribunes. The Roman senate became the most powerful governing body. Rather than advising the head
of state, it elected the chief executives, called consuls. Consuls were ordinary magistrates that had the
authority to command a military force. Tribune was a title given to various officers within the Roman
army. Rome waged war on its neighboring cities. In order to defend themselves against the Etruscan
cities, the cities of Latium allied to defend each other in an alliance called the Latin League.
Eventually, the Romans were able to conquer their most dangerous early rival, the city of Veii.
However, they were setback soon after when the Gauls sacked Rome. After the sack, the Romans
recovered and continued their conquests with a bigger, better army. Rome and the Latin League next
waged war against the

Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
The pattern of the prodigal is: rebellion, ruin, repentance, reconciliation, restoration (Edwin Louis
Cole). Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address is a speech that highlights every point in Cole s
quote. He, Lincoln, talks about how the south manages to rebel, how their economy will be left in
ruin, how they will repent and be forgiven by both God and the North, how the North and the South
will reconcile, and finally he talks of how the nation will move on to restoration. Abraham Lincoln s
Second Inaugural Address emphasizes the reconciliation of a torn apart nation by appealing to pathos,
logos, and ethos and by using diction to appeal to the listener s emotion.
The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861 when the Southern United States seceded from the
union. The first battle, taking only thirty four hours, caused Lincoln to officially rally troops against
the South. Most Northern Americans would eventually learn to love Lincoln s courage; however,
many Southern Americans would despise Lincoln. Throughout the civil war many lives were lost, and
many families were torn apart. Lincoln would remain a strong figure throughout the war. He would
give his people hope, he would give his people courage, and he would give his people strength.
Around the time the Civil War was drawing to a close, Lincoln was being reelected. The general of the
Confederacy, Robert E. Lee, surrendered after a battle in Virginia. His troops surrendered in April, a

Theme Of Porphyria s Lover
Violence towards a woman who was once desired and wor shipped by men appears to be a recurring
motif in Browning s po ems. Porphyria s lover is one of the earliest dramatic mono logues by Robert
Browning in which he explores the mind of an insane male lover. Browning reveals the changing
thoughts and feelings as well as the emotional disorder of his speaker. The reader often perceives a
gap between what the speaker says and what he actually reveals. The poem depends upon the reader s
abil ity to make inferences as well as to analyze the speaker s attitude towards Porphyria since he does
not give any background informa tion. It is also possible to argue that the withdrawal of the author
from the text, or his refusal to give you moral guidance after plac ing a difficult question or situation
before you, he must believe one of three things; that no guidance is needed because the case is ob
vious, or that no guidance is possible because you must see the truth yourself, or that it does not really
matter if you come up with the same answer he does. In Porphyria s lover we can sense Browning s
interest in psychological analysis, he liked to take ab normal behavior or unconventional characters
and analyze them.
Over View
Within this poem there are two main characters, the villainous man and the proud woman. The lover
describes how he waited for Porphyria to visit him during a stormy night, which probably pro jects his

Archetype And Jung
Carl Jung and his Analytical Psychological approach serves as the most beneficial theory in
beautifully describing human personality. Jung s approach rested on the idea of psychic energy and
this energy formed the basis to personality. Three common principles of psychic energy included the
Opposition principle, where Jung viewed conflict between polar psychological forces as the source of
energy in behavior motivation. For example, the greater the conflict in one s life, the greater the
energy to grow and overcome that conflict. Another aspect of psychic energy rested on the idea of
equivalence. Jung had a background in physics, and he attributed all energy, including psychic energy,

Nurture in a peculiar manner. Jung believed human beings possessed the innate need and primary
motivation for becoming their true selves, also known as, Individuation and Transcendence. However,
there does exist environmental factors that play into catalyzing our Individuation, but also thwarting
our ultimate goal in life. Such thwarting forces exist in social pressures that force us to be pseudo
selves and inhibit us from becoming our true manifestations of our personal human energies. In terms
of Determinism vs. Free Will, I believe Jung held on to a moderate stance of both aspects.
Deterministically, like mentioned before, Carl Jung believed we each have an innate drive towards
individuation and we inherit prior human experiences that shape our behavior. However, I do believe
Jung held a notion of free will by inferring that humans individuate by choice, especially when freely
accepting the persona, anima/animus, and shadow archetypes that lead to self individuation (Schultz

Ethanol Fuel Pros And Cons
Ethanol Fuel According to the Renewable Fuels Association, ethanol production in 2013 added more
than 87,000 direct jobs across the country, $44 billion to the gross domestic product, and $30.7 billion
in household income ( Ethanol Benefits and Considerations ). A nonrenewable resource, gasoline,
currently occupies the United States s spot as the main fuel source. This not only means our fuel
supply will eventually be depleted, but the country s main fuel supply is harming the environment.
Throughout the last decade, the idea of ethanol, a renewable resource, starting to replace gasoline has
been debated, but until the last few years, remained implausible. Recent technology innovations,
enhancing the performance of ethanol fuel, transformed this idea into a reality. The adoption of
ethanol as the main source of our country s fuel not only benefits the country as a whole but
individuals vehicles . Lower greenhouse gas emissions prevail as the main benefit of ethanol fuel.

  • 2. Minoan Civilization Essay The Minoan civilization was founded in 3000 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE, whereas the Mycenaean civilization was founded in 1900 BCE and ended in 1100 BCE (Matthews, Noble, Platt, 2014). The Minoan and Mycenaean cultures are found to be in present day Greeks as DNA has revealed to be similar in early farmers (Reich, 2017). The Minoans were the first literate civilization in Europe. One key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later was writing. Linear A, a syllabic system that cannot be read by anyone except the Minoans, however, the Mycenaeans produced thousands of Linear B tablets, that contained documents for the government, as well as the Iliad and Odyssey (Matthews et al, 2014). Both Linear A and B are from a syllabic system, which are like the Greek letters. Another key aspect of the Minoan and Mycenaean culture that lived on among the Greeks later were metals, such as bronze, copper, tin, silver, and gold (Matthews et al, 2014). These metals were used for military weapons such as swords, spears, daggers, and others, the chariots with the horse and wheel. Throughout the ages and eras, metals improved, as well as what they were used for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Impact Of Entertainment In Ancient Greece La vie doit être vécue comme une pièce de théâtre, Plato. Translated to our language this quote means, Life must be lived as a play. In Ancient Greece, entertainment was very important. The Greeks felt that entertainment would help them honor their gods. Entertainment brought the people of Greece together and made them socialize more to one another. All of the entertainment the Greeks created strongly impacts our lives today. In our opinion, without their creations, we would not have theatres, plays, poetry, festivals, or even the Olympics. In the Fourth century, the Greeks raised interest in fine arts. Public speakers gave their lectures about the brilliance and style that an earlier age had spent on drama and poetry. They also talked about religion and everyday politics. Religion affected nearly all aspects of Greek life. Families celebrated important events, like birth, marriage, and death, with prayers, sacrifices, and rituals. There were many religious festivals, but they were not really entertainment. The most important form of entertainment would be poetry. Poetry was based on storytelling, which captured exciting and tragic events. This spiraled into more emotional and personal stories turning them into poetry. Poetry almost became a second religion to the people of Greece. To the Greeks, poetry became their first resort to reflect on their feelings and remember daily events that had happened. Bards, who are professional storytellers would go from place to place and recite poems to groups of people. This form of entertainment lasted for thousands of years. It is because of this form of entertainment that we now have Greek Myths. Music was probably the second most important form of entertainment. Stated by Plato, Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. Music was important to the Greeks, if a man had something important to say, he often said it in verse. This meant that he would sing it in song. Almost all Greek poetry was sung or spoken to music. The music would be accompanied by a flute or lyre, as they were the most popular type of instrument. Young boys would learn how to play the lyre. Once they learned how to play the ... Studies have shown that 90% of times acute bronchitis is caused by a virus, yet health care providers are failing to treat or manage these patients with appropriate therapies (Knutson Braun, 2002). Understanding the evaluation and treatment guidelines, nurse practitioners can provide evidence based practice for patients with acute bronchitis. Epidemiology and significance of the problem Acute bronchitis is one of the five top reasons to seek medical care in the United States. • 6. The Zika Virus Through Latin America And The Caribbean The most recent outbreak of the Zika Virus through Latin America and the Caribbean, and its association with microcephaly in newborns has attracted significant attention from researchers and health specialists. In 2013 and 2015, large outbreaks of the virus were respectively reported in French Polynesia and Brazil. In 1947, The Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in Rhesus monkeys. • 7. Analysis Of Aetna s Workplace Culture Culture Aetna s workplace culture stands as a model to other organizations, regardless if they are an insurance company or not. The CEO s mantra on having a successful workplace simply states let s invest in our people (Aetna CEO: Let s, 2015). Bertolini himself was no stranger to struggle in his personal life, having his son beat an incurable cancer as well as he himself getting into a skiing accident where he was given his last rites (O Donnell, 2015). Having gone through these life altering events, his outlook on how employees should be treated and the resources they should have access to surpasses those of other organizations. This prompted open communication between all employees, allowing for everyone to freely speak what they thought of their work conditions. Enabling employees to have more input on decisions strengthens their alliance to the company and also makes them feel like they are a valued piece of the organization. The most talked about change for the betterment of employees by far was his announcement to raise the minimum wage to $16, in addition to lowering out of pocket costs for their health care without having to pay more in premiums (O Donnell, 2015). This demonstration of how the company cares about its employees went over wonderfully with the low wage workers, as they now have a higher take home pay, as well as better health insurance coverage from their organization which they could not previously afford. • 9. Cultural Significance Of Cultural Culture Essay The studies into culture have been on going and the importance of cultural significance in societies has increased in recent years due to the changing dimensions of the world we live in. Globalization itself has had a very profound effect on cross cultural interactions through progression in the fields of communication and technology that allow the formation of virtual work teams, the elimination of borders in trade, increased labour mobility and migration between countries. While theorists over the years have tried to define culture, it is important to note that cultural experts themselves have stressed the difficulty of defining the concept without touching into different ideas and theories that contradict each other (Browaeys and Price, 2008). Hofstede (2001) defines culture as the collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another . In his book International Management (2003), Tayeb adds to the literature defining culture as historically evolved values, attitudes and meanings that are learned and shared by the members of community and which influence their material and non material way of life . Some of the most commonly identified elements of culture are values, attitudes, rituals and shared meanings that are developed by individuals over the course of their lives through education, regional and national influences (Hofsede et al, 1991; Schwartz, 1992; Trompenaars and Hampden Turner, 1997). Caucasian teachers at Heart Mountain quickly cycled through because of poor government handling of the school. Consequently, Japanese American teachers were not paid as well as their Caucasian counterparts (58 60). Secondly, many internees had jobs, though their pay was low. Money made at these jobs could be used to buy essentials in camp stores (Bent). The third difference was food quality. At first, the food was terrible at Heart Mountain. Some of these inventions include hot air balloons, Long Range Weapons, Warships, torpedoes, and the Gatling Gun. But three inventions from the Civil War that we still use today are railroads, telegraphs, and Long Range Weapons. Today, though all these have been improved upon, these inventions are still used to help our country grow. Railroads are a form of transportation which isn t used as much anymore, but in the Civil War, it was a very important way of transportation. The transcontinental railroad was invented around the Civil War and was a faster way to transport goods, troops, and people. The Civil War was also the first war in US history to use railroads because they were important in moving troops and goods faster. The Civil War was the first war to use railroads, encouraged by President Lincoln himself a former railroad lawyer who understood how vital they were for moving men and supplies (http://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/feature/civil war innovations/). • 12. Essay On The Confessions By St. Augustine In St. Augustine s The Confessions, St. Augustine discusses his interpretation of evil and the ways in which it changed throughout the course of his life. Prior to becoming a Christian, Augustine viewed evil from the Manichean perspective as a substance or mass that opposed good. Later in life, when Augustine converted to Christianity, he discovered that evil was not a substance, but rather the absence of good. I found Augustine s Christian view of evil helpful in understanding real life evils because it provides optimism in that it shows that everything was made for good. St. Augustine first began investigating evil in Carthage when he stumbled upon the Manicheans. At this point in Augustine s life, he was in search of truth and began exploring different philosophies that would provide him with answers. After observing the beliefs of the Manicheans, Augustine found their views enlightening and started incorporating their ideas into his own life. The Manicheans believed evil was a substance that opposed good. Augustine describes how they envisioned evil as a dark, deformed mass, [] creeping about through the earth (5.10.20). They challenged the Christian belief that God was all powerful by saying that if this were true, then evil would not exist because God would have destroyed it. These views repelled Augustine from the Catholic faith. When reflecting on these views later in life, Augustine explains their flaws and how his power of sight was restricted to seeing ... • 14. Tattooing In Samoa Summer Wise Anthropology 314 J. Howell December 7, 2017 Tattooing in Samoa Introduction: why does this matter? Origin story and meaning The Samoans are an ethnic group that reside in Oceania, on the islands of Samoa, in an area of Polynesia. Samoa has been occupied by these indigenous people for about 3000 years, when they came from the west, occupying the islands of Fiji and Tonga around the same time (Barnes and Hunt 2005, 243). They carry many traditions with their culture, however, I will be discussing their tradition of tattooing. Tattooing is the process of inserting ink pigment into someone s skin to create a permanent design on them. For Samoans, tattoos are much more significant than just a pretty piece of artwork, they are, according to Ryman (2004), a right of passage. I will be reviewing the importance of cultural tattoos, the process of being tattooed, and the varying origin stories of how tattooing first came to Samoa. Samoan tattooing matters because it is a cultural tradition that has been practiced in Samoa for over 3000 years (Ellis 2006, 698). Demographics: Samoa is divided into two, separate nations, The Independent State of Samoa (referred to as Samoa) and Territory of American Samoa (referred to as American Samoa). • 15. What Is Svidrigailov s Superiority Intro: While Crime and Punishment was written originally as a way to warn against drinking, there are many other more important topics written into it, one such topic is superiority. Throughout Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky explores the ideas of superiority and perceived superiority leading to a belief that one transcends moral law. This idea is established most prominently in the protagonist, Raskolnikov, but it is also prevalent in some of the other characters, specifically Svidrigailov and Luzhin. The fact that is appears in a minor character (Luzhin) serves to further illustrate the point. The perceived superiority inevitably ends in the downfall of the character who believes himself to be superior. Claim 1: The first character that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Svidrigailov is the third character that Dostoevsky explores superiority through. He is different from both Luzhin and Raskolnikov, in fact, he has traits of both characters. He is a more major character like Raskolnikov but is of a high station like Luzhin. Svidrigailov is regarded as a man who has money but also has a dark side. Svidrigailov s dark side and his outlook on life is believed to be what brought about his downfall. He feels that the world is an evil place and thus to be a part of it, one must be truly evil as well. It is from this that he can rape a 15 year old mute girl then feel nothing when she hangs herself. This is a new degree of superiority, Svidrigailov believes that the purpose of life is to give him pleasure and that this pleasure can come at any cost. Svidrigailov believes that he flies far above moral law in this instance but there are parts of his instant gratification that can be good. If we focus on his charitable acts, they come from the sense of pleasure that comes in the moment he gives away money such as his donation to the Marmeladov family. His infatuation with Dounia is another factor that leads him to donate to the Marmeladov family as he is attempting to trick Raskolnikov and Dounia into thinking he is a good person. For 11 months, Elie moved from one camp to the next, escaping Death with the skin of his teeth each time. After being liberated in April 1945, Elie went on to write books about his experience, and to even win a Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. In Elie s book Night, he writes about his identity being stripped from himself by the SS officers working in the concentration camps. Right from the first few days at camp, Elie witnessed how SS officers decided who got to live and die merely by the smallest discrepancy in their posture, whether it was a quivering finger on the trigger, or the brisk flick of a baton, telling prisoners which side of a forked path to follow; one leading to the crematorium. With his father, Elie met Dr. Mengele at the center of a crossroad; he was holding a conductor s baton and was surrounded by officers. The baton was moving constantly, sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left (Wiesel 31). The lead up of fluoridation of water started in 1901, when dentist Dr. Frederick McKay discovered the natives of Colorado had brown stains covering their teeth. In 1902, Dr. J.M. Eager also became aware of a similar condition in Naples. Over the next few years, McKay came to learn of multiple cases suggesting that the water supply may be accountable for the discolouration. In 1931, a chemist by the name of H.V. Churchill, who was involved with the Aluminium Company of America (ACOA), believed that there could be a connection between the mottling and the existence of the element aluminium in the water. However the water was tested where the ALCOA extracted the majority of the aluminium and found extremely high levels of fluoride were encountered, that being 13.7 ppm. Churchill advised McKay on the matter who immediately collected more water samples from various towns where dental problems were an issue. Nana always told her that she was an illegitimate person who would never have legitimate claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, and acceptance (4). Not knowing any better, Mariam believes that she does not deserve the same personal rights as everyone because of her social status, even though she cannot control that. Nana blamed Mariam for the embarrassment, guilt, and shame of having a harami, making Mariam feel at fault. Nana makes Mariam feel lonely, undeserving, and insecure, because of her status, which she did not choose. Always dealing with Nana s harsh words, it did not occur to young Mariam to ponder the unfairness of apologizing for the manner of her own birth (7). Nana s hurtful words guilted Mariam into taking the blame over things she did not cause or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Anyone Lived In A Pretty Town Analysis Cummings casual and vernacular punctuation and repetition in [anyone lived in a pretty town] narrows the gap between himself and the readers by conveying his message more authentically. He applied plenty of parentheses into his poem and relies heavily on enjambment while two complete sentences and seven parentheses appeared. Authors often use parentheses to make comment and emphasize a point, so in Cummings casual, he adds a large amount of comments to his content. As an illustration, he writes, anyone lived in a pretty how town / (with up so floating many bells down) , and the content in the parentheses comments to the previous line saying that life and death occurs all the time in this town. Moreover, many alternated repetition, those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore various systems have influenced many nations, regions, and groups of people throughout the course of history. Manorialism is one primary example that demonstrates the influences an economic system can have on a nation. It was a prominent system throughout the Middle Ages in Western Europe. Manorialism is considered the economic side of feudalism, a political system where kings in Europe gave away land to nobles in return for their loyalty, military service and labor. Another essential example is mercantilism which was dominant during the Age of Exploration. Mercantilism is a system that relies on the colonies existence to make the mother country wealthy. This is demonstrated in an excerpt from a letter written in 1559 by Michele Soriano he states, ...great quantities of gold and silver are no longer found upon the surface of the earth, as they have been in past years; and to penetrate into the bowels of the earth requires greater effort... the Spaniards are not willing to do the work themselves, and the natives cannot be forced to do so... it is necessary to acquire negro slaves [enslaved Africans], who are brought from the coasts of Africa . Spain s interactions with its colonies in the Americas were frequent, therefore resources such as gold and silver began to reduce, this is why they had to dig deeper into the earth. Therefore it was essential for Europe to get laborers to work in the mines colonies because Spaniards were unwilling to do the work and the Native Americans were unable to do work due to the Emperors freed them. Intaglio was used by Assyrian merchants to identify themselves in their business transactions. Intaglio is a piece or flat stone or gem that has some sort of pattern, designs or writing engraved on its surface that uniquely identify its owner. The idea of intaglio is very brilliant and people around the world started to use intaglio in their trade businesses and even as a popular form of identifications in any written documents in human history until the past century. In fact, the concept of Intaglio is so good that modern technology created digital signature based on it. Following, there were many other significant inventions and progresses in the cryptography history: Skytales by Greeks, long leather strips that wrapped around when the person writes and reads; Nomenclator, manipulations of alphabets and etc. Notice that the US had not yet been mentioned in the ancient history of cryptography. The US did not contribute much at all to the growth until 18th century AD. In 1790, Thomas Jefferson invented a wheel cipher with the help of mathematician Dr. Robert Patterson. This wheel cipher is an elaborate form of code system and this invention make Thomas Jefferson the pioneer of American Cryptography. This invention was later on enhanced and modified; a couple generations later, it was used in World War II. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Foundation Of The Roman Culture Essay Nathaniel Spina HIST 103 T/R 3:50 5:15 History Question #2 Question 1 The foundation of the Roman culture had a strong Etruscan influence due to their taking control of Rome circa 650 BC. The Etruscans transformed Rome into an actual, functioning city through urban planning and civil engineering projects. Although the Etruscans were hostile in their take over, the Romans would not have accomplished what they did alone. It was not until circa 500 BC that Rome successfully shook off Etruscan rule. Once they were free, the Romans established a republic, a form of government also to be used by many countries later. Rome set up a constitution consisting of a senate, consuls and tribunes. The Roman senate became the most powerful governing body. Rather than advising the head of state, it elected the chief executives, called consuls. Consuls were ordinary magistrates that had the authority to command a military force. Tribune was a title given to various officers within the Roman army. Rome waged war on its neighboring cities. In order to defend themselves against the Etruscan cities, the cities of Latium allied to defend each other in an alliance called the Latin League. Eventually, the Romans were able to conquer their most dangerous early rival, the city of Veii. However, they were setback soon after when the Gauls sacked Rome. After the sack, the Romans recovered and continued their conquests with a bigger, better army. Rome and the Latin League next waged war against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address The pattern of the prodigal is: rebellion, ruin, repentance, reconciliation, restoration (Edwin Louis Cole). Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address is a speech that highlights every point in Cole s quote. He, Lincoln, talks about how the south manages to rebel, how their economy will be left in ruin, how they will repent and be forgiven by both God and the North, how the North and the South will reconcile, and finally he talks of how the nation will move on to restoration. Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address emphasizes the reconciliation of a torn apart nation by appealing to pathos, logos, and ethos and by using diction to appeal to the listener s emotion. The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861 when the Southern United States seceded from the union. The first battle, taking only thirty four hours, caused Lincoln to officially rally troops against the South. Most Northern Americans would eventually learn to love Lincoln s courage; however, many Southern Americans would despise Lincoln. Throughout the civil war many lives were lost, and many families were torn apart. Lincoln would remain a strong figure throughout the war. He would give his people hope, he would give his people courage, and he would give his people strength. Around the time the Civil War was drawing to a close, Lincoln was being reelected. The general of the Confederacy, Robert E. Lee, surrendered after a battle in Virginia. His troops surrendered in April, a little over a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Theme Of Porphyria s Lover Violence towards a woman who was once desired and wor shipped by men appears to be a recurring motif in Browning s po ems. Porphyria s lover is one of the earliest dramatic mono logues by Robert Browning in which he explores the mind of an insane male lover. Browning reveals the changing thoughts and feelings as well as the emotional disorder of his speaker. The reader often perceives a gap between what the speaker says and what he actually reveals. The poem depends upon the reader s abil ity to make inferences as well as to analyze the speaker s attitude towards Porphyria since he does not give any background informa tion. It is also possible to argue that the withdrawal of the author from the text, or his refusal to give you moral guidance after plac ing a difficult question or situation before you, he must believe one of three things; that no guidance is needed because the case is ob vious, or that no guidance is possible because you must see the truth yourself, or that it does not really matter if you come up with the same answer he does. In Porphyria s lover we can sense Browning s interest in psychological analysis, he liked to take ab normal behavior or unconventional characters and analyze them. Over View Within this poem there are two main characters, the villainous man and the proud woman. The lover describes how he waited for Porphyria to visit him during a stormy night, which probably pro jects his inner state of mind. He sees a sullen wind which I feel is ... • 37. Archetype And Jung Carl Jung and his Analytical Psychological approach serves as the most beneficial theory in beautifully describing human personality. Jung s approach rested on the idea of psychic energy and this energy formed the basis to personality. Three common principles of psychic energy included the Opposition principle, where Jung viewed conflict between polar psychological forces as the source of energy in behavior motivation. For example, the greater the conflict in one s life, the greater the energy to grow and overcome that conflict. Another aspect of psychic energy rested on the idea of equivalence. Jung had a background in physics, and he attributed all energy, including psychic energy, as something that lacks creation and destruction, rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nurture in a peculiar manner. Jung believed human beings possessed the innate need and primary motivation for becoming their true selves, also known as, Individuation and Transcendence. However, there does exist environmental factors that play into catalyzing our Individuation, but also thwarting our ultimate goal in life. Such thwarting forces exist in social pressures that force us to be pseudo selves and inhibit us from becoming our true manifestations of our personal human energies. In terms of Determinism vs. Free Will, I believe Jung held on to a moderate stance of both aspects. Deterministically, like mentioned before, Carl Jung believed we each have an innate drive towards individuation and we inherit prior human experiences that shape our behavior. However, I do believe Jung held a notion of free will by inferring that humans individuate by choice, especially when freely accepting the persona, anima/animus, and shadow archetypes that lead to self individuation (Schultz Schultz, 2017, p. ... Ethanol Fuel Pros And Cons Ethanol Fuel According to the Renewable Fuels Association, ethanol production in 2013 added more than 87,000 direct jobs across the country, $44 billion to the gross domestic product, and $30.7 billion in household income ( Ethanol Benefits and Considerations ). A nonrenewable resource, gasoline, currently occupies the United States s spot as the main fuel source. This not only means our fuel supply will eventually be depleted, but the country s main fuel supply is harming the environment. Throughout the last decade, the idea of ethanol, a renewable resource, starting to replace gasoline has been debated, but until the last few years, remained implausible.
