Rapid Urbanization And Violent Conflicts
1. Introduction
There are numerous social, economic, cultural, and political issues that accompany rapid urbanization.
Concerns about rapid urbanization and violent conflicts have long been uttered in different respects:
mainly this concern have related to the capacity of social orders to adjust to such development, and the
likelihood that it may increase urban violence and insecurity. And on the other hand, this has related to
concerns that growing political and social demands would inevitably follow the upsurge of masses in
urban centres (xxx, xxx). The assumption is that political and social questions that accompany rapid
urbanization could exceed the institutional capacity of a state and yield disenchantment of migrants
expectations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these results and the ebb and flow of academic interest for the issue, the potential links
between rapid urbanization and violent conflicts still deserve consideration. The prospects that rapid
urbanization can add to violence through a multiplicative interactions with different elements have not
yet sufficiently examined (xxx, 54). This essay is, therefore, on the links between rapid urbanization
and violent conflicts: specifically the essay looks at the factors that interface between rapid
urbanization and violent conflicts with the main goal to answer the crucial question: how rapid
urbanisation results in violent behaviour? This essay is structured into four parts. In the first part,
introduction to this essay has presented. In the second part, the circumstances that translate the
occurrence of rapid urbanization into violent conflicts will be explained. In the third part, the
arguments and evidences on the link between rapid urbanization and violent conflict will be discussed,
and the final part, fourth, will present the conclusion.
2. How rapid urbanization translate into violent conflicts?
According to Wayne Cornelius (xxx, xxx), there are three scenarios that would move migrants into
violent actions. The first scenario is related to the displacing from rural roots raises economic
disappointment among migrants as the quick flood

Essay On 1960s Religion
The 1960s was a rapid, evolutionary new burst in religious change. People during this era ignored
their parents and grandparents values, and made their own. This caused a dramatic decrease in
churchgoing numbers, and christian values in the south. These changes can be connected with the
direction the world was going. Politics, mobility, and great leadership had a huge impact on the
religion of the 1960s. After this period, Christians still, even today, try to return the values of
traditionalism (Matthews).
The politics of the time brought great change, president John F. Kennedy, was the first Catholic
president of the United states. The mobility of the times brought new ideas to the American south, and
denounced protestant thought. The immigration of 1965 opened the U.S. up to massive immigration.
Many immigrants from all over Asia came to America during this time bringing their ancient religions

I have never been a believer of fundamental values and interpreting the bible literally. However,
religion is so deeply stained into the fabric of the south, I can not imagine a south without the strong
influence of religion it has. It is amusing to me, that we can not agree on one united church. We are so
different in our faiths, everywhere you look here has a church with its own unique faiths. I do not
know why, but I feel like religion gave the southern people a sense of righteousness during the 1960s.
I feel like the southern people knew their God would have wanted them separate from blacks, and try
to block out the rest of worlds changes from changing the South. We try to instill these religious
values in our culture I think to try and keep morals and values alive. Except, humans do not need
religion to know the difference between right or wrong. Without the reevaluation of southern identity
during the 1960s, the reevaluation may have not turned out the way it

Software Engineering And Intelligent Systems Essay
INTRODUCTION
Throughout the year I have learnt about many issues in software engineering and intelligent systems
by researching for this report. In this report I will be explaining and discussing these key problems and
some key techniques that can be implemented to overcome these for both software engineering and
intelligent systems.
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Software Engineering is the discipline of designing and developing software projects so that they
behave in an efficient and independent manner while meeting the requirement of the client. Some key
problems which arise in software engineering are complexity, inefficient communication and
inadequate testing. Software projects are large and take years to make. In order to reduce the risk of
failure and keep track of problems, software projects must follow the correct methodology.
A methodology is a set of instructions followed in order to develop projects efficiently. In software
engineering, a methodology is a discipline which structures a project strongly so that it will succeed.
Without a strong structure, the project will start to break down and create big problems for software
engineers.
KEY PROBLEMS COMPLEXITY
Software projects are complex and can crash with the slightest errors. Software Engineering projects
take a lot of time and can sometimes take years to code. Some projects are made with over a thousand
lines of code, due to this, the chance of error increases. For example, in 1998, a crew member of the

Essay on Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler
Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler
To learn history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which
we subsequently perceive as historical events. Adolf Hitler Growing up poor in a small town in
Austria he had dreams of becoming famous; some would even say this dream soon became an
obsession. This fascination soon engulfed his life, viewing his goals as a catalyst for a better life. After
a brief stint in the army he pursued this dream and learned to use propaganda as a springboard to
achieve a high ranking position in a political party. This political party was currently in power in the
country he had immigrated to in his twenties, a country he could now call his own. Two ... Show more

The Background
I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am
fighting for the Lord s work. Adolf Hitler
To fully understand the views expressed in this paper, it is necessary to understand Adolf Hitler and to
provide context as to why Schwarzenegger is being compared to what many believe to be the
embodiment of evil itself. This section of the paper will focus on the background of both states:
California and Nazi Germany.
In 1929 Germany was hit with the final blow to an already struggling nation; the Great Depression.
Black Tuesday hit Germany in the midst of a naval blockade, extreme hyperinflation, and poverty for
many Germans. Many historians believe that the blockade against Germany was the main reason for
the rise of Nazism and consequently World War II. Regardless, Germany was in a time of crisis and in
desperate need of salvation.
In 2003, California, while not suffering from the same magnitude of crisis as pre Nazi Germany, was
by no means experiencing prosperity. California was in the midst of an extreme unbalance: suffering
from a massive debt, a governor who seemed unable to help, and increasing unemployment. Residents
were exhausted of false promises made by former governors and looking for change. A recall was
ordered on Governor

Reflection On The Process Of Bid Glass
This was my first time ever doing stained glass. My goal for this class was to learn the process of
stained glass, grow in patience, and grow in appreciation for the art. With all of the different aspects, I
feel like this goal was met. The first part of the process was cutting the glass. For this, the tools needed
was a glass/ball cutter, running pliers, grozing pliers, and (of course) your glass. Using the ball cutter,
you make a score on the glass. This should only ever be done once. After that is made, take the pliers
to break the glass. The running pliers are used for straight lines What you do is align the cut with the
line on the pliers and pinch, and the glass should break. The grozing pliers are used for non straight
cuts. For this, you take the pliers in one hand and your hand as the other and go on either side of the
score, then break or snap it upwards. Throughout this process I had a good amount of struggles. I first
struggled with figuring out how to position my hand, the amount of pressure that I should put on the
glass, and the angle to put my hand. Another struggle that I encountered was breaking off the glass
that had a curved score. Sometimes the glass wouldn t break, or other times the glass shattered . At
one point I ended up deeply cutting myself, but I went on with a makeshift band aid and got all of the
pieces cut. After all the pieces were cut, I went to the grinder and grinded them all. This didn t seem to
challenge me at all, but rather proved to

Introduction Amino acids are the basic building blocks of the body and sources of energy, like fats and
carbohydrates. They are structurally characterized by the fact that they contain nitrogen (N), whereas
fats and carbohydrates do not. Therefore, only amino acids are capable of forming tissues, organs,
muscles, skin and hair. Chains of amino acid make proteins. Proteins are among the most abundant
organic molecules in living systems and are way more diverse in structure and function than other ...

Only 20 mL of amino acid was used for both titrations. Around 5mL of HCl was used in the acid
titration of the unknown but only 1.55 mL of base was used for the Basic titration. The table of acidic
and basic titrations is attached where it shows that the amino acid therefore was acidic since it took a
lot more acid than the base for titration. Molar equivalence was calculated using the concentration and
volumes of amino acid and titrants. A graph was plotted which showed two pH value, one at 1.5 and
the other at 0.5. The pH at 1.5 was 2.53 and at 0.5 was 10.15. The pI was then calculated to be 6.34.
The unknown amino acid, AA 01 04, was concluded to be Aspartate or Aspartic acid by examining the
titration curve and pH s at the Molar equivalence.

The Struggle Of A Father s Life On Sundays By Robert Hayden
In this poem, the author Robert Hayden dramatizes the conflict of a father son relationship, inviting us
to recall our past relationships with parents with him. This poem was written so the speaker can reflect
on his own life and help the reader connect to him.
The opening stanza sets the scene with the speaker telling us about his father s life on Sundays. Note
how the author uses imagery to show his inner feelings of coldness towards his father at time, using
words like blue black cold (line 2) and cracked hands (line 30). These words also show a sense of
loneliness. Sunday is a day of rest for most people. A working man should be able to sleep in rather
than waking up early. But that was not the case for the man in this poem, or the speaker s father. He
wakes up early and begins his daily tasks. The coldness expressed in this first stanza goes beyond the
literal temperature of the room. This coldness describes the ungrateful attitude of his family, none of
them having ever thanked their father for his hard work in the household. This poem is written in past
tense, allowing the speaker to realize the amount of regret he holds for his ingratitude.
The use of the words cold, splintering, breaking in the second stanza reinforces the feeling of coldness
in the first stanza. Splintering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rhetorical question that is present in the last two lines of the poem, show the speakers shame and
almost remorse. The first What did I know shows a lack of knowledge of the sacrifice of others,
especially his father. When the speaker says, What did I know of love s austere and lonely offices?
shows the realization of the willingness of his father to wake up and complete the tasks for his loved
ones. The word austere is used to describe the tasks performed, as well as the man who performs
them. The author uses the word offices as a final word to compare the functions and duties performed

Malcolm X Historiography
The Autobiography of Malcolm X, written by Malcolm X himself and Alex Haley, concentrates on
Malcolm X s unapologetic and autodidactism. Although his approach to education was unorthodox,
once Malcolm X started to read he could not stop. His thirst for education became unquenchable.
During his time in prison he managed to self educate about the religion of Islam and identify his true
self. Living in America where black kids are discouraged and laughed at for trying to pursue a
professional career, Malcolm X dropped out of high school because the education system failed him.
His teacher told him that a person of his kind was not suitable for a sophisticated sifficticated role as a
lawyer, instead a good carpenter was more reasonable. What that ... Show more content on

Throughout his life Malcolm X faced oppression from white people. From having his family s house
burned by the KKK, to having his father killed by a white supremacy group and leaving his mother
destroyed, Malcolm had a deep sense of hatred towards white people in America. This resulted in
Malcolm developing this philosophy that black people should in no way accept the help of white
people. While he was in prison learning about the nation of Islam, his views on white America grew
strong. Leading to his advocacy to Pan Africanism. Malcolm shares in the book, that freedom,
independence and self respect could never be achieved by the Negro in America, and that therefore the
Negro should leave America to the white man and return to his African land of origin. He simply
believed that unless black people create a black nation, blacks in America could never be
economically stable due to the discrimination they will continuously face. Later on in the book, he
contradicts himself after his trip to Mecca and changes his views. Neglecting his past belief of Pan
Africanism, Malcolm came to the realization that blacks in America could be successful with the
participation of whites fighting alongside them for equal rights. This came to be as a result of
Malcolm witnessing race problems from different perspective around the

Examples Of Proverbs In The Hobbit
Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs: A Look at the Life and Works of J.R.R. Tolkien
If a live dragon looked you in the eye, what would you do? Would you stand paralyzed with fear?
Would you run? Take a page out of Bilbo Baggins s book and engage the beast, flatter him. Tell him a
riddle or two (Tolkien 199). According to J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings and The
Hobbit, riddles fascinate dragons. Tolkien advises us to always speak in riddles when speaking to a

Bilbo values his comfort. While he is polite to the dwarves, he is afraid they will break his things
(Tolkien 12). He has little interest in adventures and is reluctant to accompany the dwarves on their

changed hobbit. Tolkien may be suggesting that our comfort can prevent us from seeing our world. He
may be trying to convey that comfort is not as valuable as we believe it to be.
J.R.R. Tolkien left his mark on society. He gave modern civilization something to ponder. Tolkien is
considered to be one of the greatest authors to have ever lived. Tolkien lived a fairly normal life,
despite his undeniable connection with Middle Earth. Tolkien made a name for himself within the

Masculine Ideas Of Power In The Bostonians And King...
Masculine ideas of power vary between characters and how they treat those around them. Power usage
in this sense is exercised in Henry James s The Bostonians and Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in
King Arthur s Court. The two main male characters in these novels both have a need to control others.
From the time periods they are set and live in, men were in charge of most things, so this is seen many
times. Comparing James s and Twain s ideas of this, though, are shown most in Basil Ransom and
Hank Morgan. Basil, reigning from the Confederate South, has the urge to have power of Verena and
what she does with her own life. Hank uses his power skills to control an entire community of people
in a period of time that is not his own. Both men see themselves as Gods , in a sense, over others from
their beliefs in their own power from their uses of their voices, opinions, and appearances. Power has
many definitions and a very long etymological history. However, the most common is listed in the
Oxford English Dictionary as the, Capacity to direct or influence the behavior of others; personal or
social influence, (Power, n.1 ). Power defines literary characters, movements, real people, and more.
Masculinity is also prevalent when looking at power. The Oxford English Dictionary also has
masculinity listed as meaning, The state or fact of being masculine; the assemblage of qualities
regarded as characteristic of men; maleness, manliness, (Masculinity, n ). Power and

What Are The Five Forces Analysis Of The Toy Industry
According to Statista, a statistic tracking website on global revenues and market shares the global
revenue of the global toy market was $84.1bn in 2012, and the U.S. toy market size was estimated to
be worth 21.18bn. (http://www.statista.com/statistics/194395/revenue of the global toy market since
2007/) In conducting a five forces analysis of the toy industry as it currently stands, we must look at
all five forces that affect competition. This includes factors affecting the strength of buyer bargaining
power, factors affecting competition from substitute parts, factors affecting the strength of supplier
bargaining power, factors affecting the threat of entry, and finally factors affecting the strength of
competitive rivalry. In terms of factors affecting the strength of buyer bargaining power, the buyer
bargaining power is weak. Buyers purchase the toys infrequently and in small quantities. The average
seller isn t going to be buying pallets of a certain toy; they want to purchase just what they need and
the same goes for frequency of purchase. Also the costs are often fluctuating due to competing brands
and substitute products. In some instances the seller s brand reputation is important to the buyer, for
example there may be multiple block toys to play with but some kids may not be satisfied playing
with knock off Legos, and may only want to purchase the real thing (same with Barbie s, or other well
known toys). Bargaining power can also be high at times as the

Asian Women
Nevertheless, many Asian women in particular struggle to adopt status within the society as they are
not heteronormative enough. There are many reasons why Asian women perform cosmetic surgery in
order to look white in an attempt to attain the framework of heteronormativity. One of the reasons why
Asian women want to look white is through gaining benefit in finding a partner. Based on a study of
692 undergraduates, the study has found that white women are more likely to be asked out compared
to non white women. White women have a staggering percentage of 40 percent while non white
women have roughly about 28 percent (Knox Schacht, 2012). Another study conducted from

The media seeks to reinforce the framework of heteronormativity through the lifestyle held by
hegemonic social norms. The public s attitude to cosmetic surgery is heavily influenced by the crucial
role of the sociocultural in particular to the promotion of the body and beauty in the mass media
(Moon, 2015). Within the global media, the image of Asian women is fixed towards depicting social
qualities as exotic, feminine, and seductive. Due to these depictions of Asian women in the media,
Asian women are seen as dolls. In addition, Asian women are not portrayed as humans compared to
white women (Hall, 1995). This negative image of observing Asian women as inferior humans further
affect Asian women status within the concept of heteronormativity. Therefore, Asian women perform
cosmetic surgery to look white in order to alter their image and gain their power. The role of the mass
media contributes strong self images that correspond with the consumer culture, in regard to the desire
to buy the ideal beauty commodity (Askegaard, Gertsen, Langer, 2015). Since western beauty is
strongly penetrating within almost every edge of the media in Asia. The beauty ideal of Asia is largely
westernized through the extent where most models or celebrities are western or look western. With
this implementation, Western and domestic models that are embodied to western features are heavily
promoted along the goods in the Asian Market (Kim, 2003). According to Li, Min, and Belk (2008),
having pale white skin is perceived as a symbol of flawless, luxury, and prestige in the Asian cultures.
Whiteness is a source of cultural capital that is related with upper class images (Bourdieu, 1984). In
addition, Asian celebrities with fair skin tie their achievement with whiteness in order to implicit their
success

Workplace As Part Of Continuous Improvement
Many companies have chosen to follow the route towards a 5S workplace as part of continuous
improvement. This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items
properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to be
rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some
situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long,
product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full
potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to advance
through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported that two
thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders (Ghodrati and
Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the issue when
putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is. Some of these
situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement, continuous improvement, and
the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. The process of 5S is a great way to add to
culture change and to involve people. 5S is aimed to simplify larger productivity, quality, and safety
measures. It is also very visual in the aspects of organization, cleanliness, and planning. It is a base for

Double Standards In The Odyssey
Margaret Atwood s The Penelopiad re envisions Homer s Odyssey by following Penelope s life and
thoughts in the place of Odysseus s. By using Penelope s viewpoint, Atwood is able to expose the
double standards and misogyny in the Odyssey, as well as alter Penelope s original character into
someone with intellect and an astute way of thinking. For instance, a double standard found in the
Odyssey was that being a good and heroic man meant one must have sex with a lot of women; but if a
woman was to have sex with lots of men, she would be considered tainted and impure. Essentially
stating that for a man to achieve greatness and success, multiple women have to be forced to submit
and accept failure in the Odyssey s concept of womanliness. Atwood s

The Competitive Advantages Zappos
Introduction
This article is a discussion about the competitive advantages Zappos has, using resource based view
and dynamic capabilities analysis. Although there are SWOT framework and Porter s five forces
model etc. to understand the firm s competitive advantage, those are environmental analysis, which is
only the half story as Barney,(1995) suggested. So, an analysis of a firm s internal strengths and
weaknesses is required. Barney (2001) states resource based logic can help managers more completely

But market is dynamic, during these 10 years, more and more shopping websites are established, since
if a firm hands competitive advantage, others will always attempt to imitate it, although Zappos is still
running smoothly, the same capability, may not pass the VRIO test. On the other hand, from he view
of dynamic capability, zappos operation model was to provide exceptional product selection by padre
rim with shoe companies, then it changed, all shipments were from its own inventory, (Z,10) because
the old model lacks of accuracy and had unreliable information updates. Undeniably, one of Zappos
competence is their distribution system, Zappos noticed that there should be some changes, not only
the shipping model, also include the allocation of ground delivery, ship delivery and air delivery, or
the facilitating of automatic machines, as time goes by, Zappos is always updating this competency.
Dynamic capability can be seen as a critique of RBV, There is also literature suggesting, that DC is
outcome of RBV, Dynamic capability is defined as capabilities that endow firms with competitive
advantage in changing environments. Both capabilities and DC are organization . A DC is the VRIO s
O . To be a source of competitive advantage it must be VRI. So dynamic capability can be seen as a
firm integrate its valuable, rare and costly imitated resources over times. From this perspective, when
we analyze Zappos distribution competency, we can also say that Zappos is organizing its distributing
resource and equipping it in order to be responsive to address the changes taking place in the
environment. (Zolo and Winter,

All three Signs placed in the element of water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) are rather difficult to
describe or measure out their true essence. Most Geminians, the sign of the twins which are ruled by
Mercury, have identical characteristics to their sign. On the downside, they have a tendency to

congenial, expressive, and clever. Learning to make a firm decision and sticking to it is one of their
most difficult tasks. Geminians are sometimes said to have split personalities; meaning that the first

used to describe the two sides of their personality. Signs in a complementary element are considered to

Kinky Boots is a stunningly flashy Broadway musical that tugs on the heartstrings with its equally
stunning clichés. With its plot originally conceived as a British film in 2005, the stage production was
not produced until 2012 and was based on the book written by Harvey Fierstein. Furthermore, the

Since its Broadway debut, Kinky Boots has been a smashing commercial success. Over the years,
Kinky Boots has swapped out the actors in its cast many times. However, the original leading actors of

Charlie Price when he inherits his family s shoe factory from his father. The factory has fallen on hard
times with sales reaching depressing lows and the factory bleeding cash flow. All seems lost until
Charlie has a fateful meeting with drag performer Lola, who inspires Charlie to reinvent the factory

The Between Justice And Revenge
How often have you seen a film, show, or book have a protagonist who was wronged, then goes on a
rampage claiming that they were seeking justice? The main character claims to seek justice when all
they are doing is trying to claim revenge. Revenge and justice are two words of completely different
meanings and yet are constantly confused for each other. A common question that is asked by people
these days is what is the difference between justice and revenge ? There are many aspects besides the
definition of the words that show how different they are, however the strongest answers come from
inside a person. In order to find an answer to this question we must look at how each of these words
affect people who could be involved. When it comes to people that are looking to gain justice or
revenge a big factor that tells what they are looking at a person s state of mind. A person who is
looking for revenge then they will have an irrational state of mind, while a person seeking justice will
keep a rational state. However in these irrational states it is common for a person to called their
revenge driven actions justice in hopes of making their actions seem right to the public. Revenge is a
creature born from emotions, these emotions become so powerful that they cover all your senses and
cause you to act irrationally. In Seltzer s essay Don t Confuse Revenge with Justice he states At its

What Hitler showed numerous amounts of time is a good lesson for everybody. This lesson, is more
directed towards the governments. Hitler showed major abuse of power. He started off as making
descrimination legal, and then moved on to killing people. He not only did this as a plan, but he did
this rather quickly.
The Holocaust was of course, a very depressing time for many people in the world. Nobody ever
wishes to see anything like it again. That is why we study it, we study to remember. We want to
remember all of the bad things. Remembering the bad things, is not to bring hurt, but to bring back our
courage to fight. It is also to help us recognize how the nation felt and responded to the chaos.
Looking back at that time period, and the events that consisted with in it, we must never let it happen
again. Learning, is also helping prevent another Holocaust. The nation may be better prepared now,
but we don t want to have to use our preparation against something as bad as it was.
We, the world did not, and will not leave anyone responsible for the war crimes to not be punished.
They were responsible for the death and for the heartache of half the world. We also learn about the

where a violation of territorieal integrity or political sovereignty is justified, namely humanitarian

In On Liberty, John Stuart Mill argues that the only legitimate basis for limiting the individual s
liberty, in the liberal democratic state, is to prevent harm to others. In his words, The only purpose for
which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will,
is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant. This is
now considered the Harm Principle. The Legalist Paradigm seeks to extend this liberty to the states
themselves as well. It is a modern, secular and legalistic interpretation of Classical Just War Theory,
which reflects conventions of law and order based upon the analogy of states to individuals. It took
root in the writings of the Catholic theologian Francisco de Vitoria and the Dutch jurist, Hugo Grotius
and also from the Treaty of Westphalia at the end of the Thirty Years War in the 17th Century, which
led to the formal and legal recognition of independent, sovereign nation states and their rights to
territorial integrity and political sovereignty. The Legalist Paradigm consists of six claims. The first
two claims outline the existence of an international society of independent nation states that have
agreed upon the rights of its members to territorial integrity and political sovereignty. Thus, the third
claims defines aggression as the use of force to threaten the rights of another state.

Pressure Ulcers
According to the textbook, nurses in various settings are adopting a research based (or evidence
based) practice that incorporates research findings into their decisions and interaction with clients.
How do you see this being applied in your workplace? In my workplace, we have recently
implemented that if a patient is admitted from the ER or directly admitted from a physician s office
and they have any sensory impairment we must order them a Stryker overlay mattress. The stryker
softcare overlay mattress is a single patient use mattress put in place in hope of preventing pressure
ulcers. The mattress works by redistributing pressure to other areas by removing the constant pressure

Dissociative Disorder
Somatic and Dissociative Syndromes
Let us start by defining somatic symptom disorder, malingering, factitious disorder, and dissociative
disorders according to the DSM 5. A somatic symptom disorder is a disorder in which persons become
excessively distressed, concerned, and anxious, about bodily symptoms they are experiencing.
Malingering is intentionally faking to achieve some external gains, such as financial compensation or
military deferment. Factitious disorder is a disorder in which an individual feigns or induces physical
symptoms, typically for the purpose of assuming the role of a sick person. A dissociative disorder is a
disorder marked by major changes in memory that do not have clear physical causes. Are all of these

This is mental disorder where an individual overthinks about his/her symptoms. Thoughts are harder
to control than physical actions in my opinion and this is a disorder that is brought up because of
thoughts and emotions. When discussing conversion disorder, a disorder in which medically
unexplained bodily symptoms affect voluntary motor and sensory functions, the emotions that are so
hard to get rid of actually induce physical symptoms. Our mind and bodies are connected more than
we think and this disorder proves it. I find this disorder difficult to question is legitimacy because the
symptoms are real. Even though the doctors cannot find physical causes, they can find physical proof
of the disorder.
The last disorder to discuss is dissociative disorder. A dissociative disorder is similar to a conversion
disorder in that there are no physical reasons for the symptoms but the symptoms are real. Even
though clinicians cannot find physical causes, there must be something that happens with patients of
this disorder because most of the time the disorder appears more than once in patients. Whether there
is a small biological defective or a mental mishap, there is something that happens to patients that
makes them adopt the symptoms of this

The Western Frontier Is An Important Part Of American Society
The Western Frontier is an important part of American society that captures the archetypal curiosity
that ever American has in search of new opportunities. Frederick Jackson Turner s essay titled, The
Significance of the Frontier in American History explains the relevance of westward expansion in the
late nineteenth century. Turner describes the western frontier as the meeting point between savagery
and civilization because once one crosses the boundary from the East to the West; the laws of
civilization no longer apply. The West is characterized by its lawlessness and violence as the settlers
struggle to stake their claim on the rough terrain (Turner). Two western classics that are complete
polar opposites Willa Cather s My Antonia and Cormac McCarthy s Blood Meridian both depict the
civilized but also the savage aspects of the western frontier. The difficult and ever changing geography
of the American West shapes each character in both stories, since the American West is a harsh and
tedious environment, it allows Darwin s principle of survival of the fittest to be tested. In My Antonia,
the protagonist, Antonia, is shown to the reader through the memory of Jim Burden as his childhood
sweetheart. Antonia represents the captivating and peaceful beauty of the western prairie even as it
endures harsh conditions. On the other hand, Blood Meridian portrays a horribly savage image of the
West, where one is in a dog eat dog world and must choose to kill or be killed. McCarthy

Rue Morgue Vs The Bone Collector
A question that is often debated is that of what makes a good story. In the 1800s, Edgar Allan Poe
created one list of rules that he think make a good detective story. These include requirements such as
clues must be present to allow the reader to solve the crime and a detective with strong intuitive skills
(Class Handout). Two mystery tales that attempted to follow these rules are Poe s own short story, The
Murders in the Rue Morgue, and a movie, The Bone Collector. According to these guidelines, The
Murders in the Rue Morgue is a better mystery story than The Bone Collector because of the detective
s strong but reasonable intuitive skills and the fair clues that are given to the reader. Both stories have
detectives present in them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long before Poe made his rules about detective stories, Aristotle made his own requirements for a
tragedy, such as fear, morality, and spectacle. (Class Handout) Poe s story ignores many of the
requirements that Aristotle gives for a tragedy. The reader feels no fear in Poe s story because the
detective is never in any true danger. In The Bone Collector, the detective is in near constant danger
and spectacle is used to convey this fear to the watcher. The Bone Collector also has an element of
morality that is entirely missing in Poe s story. At the end of the story, the villain, Marcus Andrews,
makes it about more than just the story. He claims that because the detectives couldn t solve the clues,
[the murdered victim s] blood is on [the detectives ] hands (The Bone Collector). Instead of trying to
bring in this morality into Poe s story, Poe instead makes the story about an orangutan that doesn t
even have morals. While all this makes The Bone Collector a good tragedy, it does not make it a good
mystery, because a mystery requires specific criteria. The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a good
mystery but a poor Aristotelian tragedy because it is missing these vital

Charles Marius Barbeau s Ethnography and the Canadian Folklore
Born on 5 March 1883, in Sainte Marie de Bauce, Charles Marius Barbeau is widely seen as the first
Canadian educated anthropologist. He graduated from Université Laval in Québec, from his studies of
law, in 1907; he never practised law. Upon graduating, Marius was awarded as the first French
Canadian recipient the Cecil Rhodes scholarship which allowed him to study at Oxford University
where he was introduced to the emerging field of Anthropology. « Je [voulais] savoir comment l
homme a été créé » he later explained to Marcel Rioux. (Benoît 1959a) During his stay in Europe,
Marius also attended classes at the Sorbonne s École des Hautes Études and at the École ... Show more

But his sometimes contradicting statements require a more precise study, so we will simply present his
main positions, and state some of the opposing points without thoroughly analysing them.
Marcel Mauss whose classes Barbeau attended concludes in a 1902 document on ethnographic
» (Mauss 1902) In the same line of thought, Franz Boas the famous
American anthropologist, also a contemporary of Barbeau stresses the need to focus on collecting
data. He even criticizes social and anthropological theory makers. (See Boas 1920) Barbeau was, at
the beginning of his career, much influenced by these ideas. He collected data on many aboriginal
societies mainly of the Northwest Coast, of Québec and of the North of the USA and later, at the
suggestion of Boas, he started recording folk songs, legends and myths from French Canadians. But
we will see that Barbeau did advance some quite controversial theories later in his career.
This collecting of folkloric data opened Barbeau s eyes to the need to salvage the cultures of Native
and French Canadians alike. « Fortement inspiré par l ethnologie de la

CELLULAR NETWORKS
Pro s:
Cost:
Most wireline phone companies charge more than what you d pay for most alternatives, and some are
taxed more as well. There are some locations where getting new wired phone service is prohibitively
expensive or even impossible. Long Distance and extra features like Call Waiting are normally
included with alternative phones.
More Features:
Cellular and broadband phones normally include Long Distance, Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call
Forwarding and more, usually at no additional charge. They also have Text Messaging and various
forms of data service which are unavailable with a landline.
Portability:
If you move your home more than average (or if it s on wheels), your phone and your number can ...

It does work with some broadband phone systems. Your satellite service can still work without it, but
you will most likely pay an extra charge.
Reliability:
Wired telephone services have come as close to 100% reliable as is practical. Their network has
substantial power backup, redundant circuits and years to get it right. Alternatives are improving but
their networks can vary significantly. Cell sites and other communications nodes have a limited
amount of backup power. In an extended power outage, such as after a hurricane or snowstorm, the
service may not work, leaving you with no service. Corded phones work in power failures. Cable
phones also have a lower level of reliability.
Sound Quality:
Some alternative phones don t sound the same or as good as a landline. While your alternative phone
may sound fine to you, it may be difficult for others. Also, some broadband phone services just dump
their audio into the Internet resulting in widely varying data travel times giving you significant sound
delays.
Lack of Service:
You may be in a location where there are no wireless broadband alternatives or may have poor cellular
coverage. This might be rectified by adding a cell site to your home.
Broadband Speeds:
While there are some fairly fast wireless broadband connections, it may be some time before they will
compare to wired or cable connections.
Malfunctions:
Cell sites can stop working for various reasons. Repairs often need

Compare And Contrast Christianity And Islam
There are an estimated two billion people on earth professing to be Christians and follow the teachings
of Jesus and God. An estimated one billion, three hundred million people on earth profess to be
Muslim and follow the teachings of Muhammad and Allah.
(http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/comparison_chartsislam_judaism_christianity.htm) Both are
monotheistic religions, both agree in the existence of prophets, and both religions follow certain
rituals in worshipping their particular God. Christianity and Islam produce the largest number of
devout followers on earth, and when compared are very similar to one another.
Christianity began before Islam in approximately 30 A.D. Christians believe in the existence of one
supreme God, creator of the universe, who remains involved in the events on earth through the actions
of his believers. The Christian theory of creation proposes God created the earth and universe in six
days and rested on the seventh, known as the Sabbath, a day to rest and worship God. Man and
woman were created on the sixth day, named Adam and Eve, and placed in a paradise like location on
earth known as the Garden of Eden. God specifically prohibited them from eating the fruit of a
particular tree from the garden, referred to as the tree of knowledge. Tempted by a serpent, they both
ate the fruit and immediately became aware of human conditions, such as being naked. When God
discovered what they had done he banished them from the garden, leaving the couple to

Persuasive Essay On Trophies For Children
There was once a girl named Sally who attended a basketball camp when she was nine. All of the kids
there worked really hard, but not Sally. Sally refused to give an effort at all. At the end of the camp,
Sally received a trophy for showing up the same trophy that all the other children got. Sally cherished
this trophy all her life and passed it down to her children since it taught her that you do not have to
work hard for anything in your life and you will still be rewarded! As you can see, there are some
issues with this scenario. In fact there is a lot of controversy on whether all children should receive
trophies, or only a select few. I believe that giving children too many unearned trophies not only has
no value, but has a negative effect on their character.
Some people think that giving children trophies for participation is good for them because it has a
positive impact on the kids mindset. They say that it motivates children to do better and it makes them
feel like they are not compared to children who have more talent. However, this ... Show more content

For example, it makes kids entitled. If they grow up receiving awards that are not earned, naturally,
they expect other things in life to come to them without putting forth effort. Also, it fails to motivate
them. As claimed by Ashley Merryman in her article, Losing Is Good for You, Awards can be
powerful motivators, but nonstop recognition does not inspire children to succeed. Instead it causes
them to underachieve. In addition to this, it takes away the glory from the kids who truly do work
hard. When some individuals put a lot of hard work into their academics or sports, they should be
recognized for it. I have seen that these children get very discouraged when the kids who do not work
as hard get the same recognition as them. As you can see, awarding children trophies for their every
move has a very negative effect on their work

Capulet And Juliet Relationships
The relationship between Juliet and her parents, Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet is unhealthy because
of the lack of communication between them. Juliet has a stronger relationship and has more
communication with the nurse rather than with her parents, which leads to their relationship being
weak. The lack of communication between them leads to many conflicts in the story. In the beginning
Lady Capulet wants to have a discussion with Juliet and insist the nurse be there and says, ..nurse
come back again;/I have remember d me, thou shalt hear our counsel./Thou knowest my daughter s of
a pretty age. (1.3.10 12) This is showing a weak and unhealthy relationship between Juliet and her
mother. Lady Capulet wants to have a discussion with Juliet about getting married in her future. Lady
Capulet wants the nurse to be there to help assist her in this discussion because she does not even
know/remember Juliet s age or interest. When Lord Capulet, Paris, and lady capulet are talking about
the marriage of Paris and Juliet, Lord Capulet says, ...wife go you to her ere you go to bed;/acquaint

This shows that the mother lacks to protect and defend her daughter or take part in this argument. She
feels the need to leave and not help solve this conflict. This is another reason why they have an
unhealthy relationship because it shows why Juliet cannot trust her and rely on her mother. Juliet
apologizes to her father and says, Where have I learnt me to repent the sin/Of disobedient
opposition/To you and your behest, and am enjoin d/By holy Laurence to fall prostrate here/To beg
your pardon. (4.2.18 22). Because of this unhealthy relationship between her and her father she goes

Highly Cost-Effective Self-Insurance Cons
On its website, DOL states, FECA is a highly cost effective self insurance system. Overhead is low,

Organizational Control
Organizational control is the systematic process through which managers regulate organizational
activities to make them consistent with expectations established in plans, targets and standards of
performance (Kuratko, 2001). These organizational expectations are a collection of goals and
accountabilities represented in the budget, which help establish performance metrics, document actual
performances, allow comparison between the estimated and actual performance, and allow for
corrective actions (Jones George Hill, 2003). Measures of financial performance are those ratios
against which actual performance can be meaningfully measured against the expectations of the
budget. These measures are objective measures of performance, and a ... Show more content on

There are enough assets to pay short term claims, but the stock performance lags the S P by almost 2/3
raising the question in my mind if they have too much non performing assets on hand which need to
be reevaluated. The quick ratio answers the question of whether an organization can pay claims
without selling inventory. Inventory is not necessarily worth the amount represented on the books, and
removing it from this calculation gives a better view of whether or not an organization has liquid
assets available. If a company has too much of its liquidity tied up in inventory, it will be dependent
on selling that inventory to finance its operations and will have a low quick ratio (Motley Fool).
Leverage ratios measure the use of debt or equity to finance operations, with the use of debt becoming
problematic if profits cannot cover the interest on the debt (Jones George Hill, 2003). Two common
such ratios are debt to assets ratio and times covered ratio. Debt to assets shows to what extent the
organization is financed with debt, with a lower number being more favorable. With a low number, an
organization and its investors can be more confident a company can weather difficult times. Real
Networks, as discussed earlier, has a debt to equity ratio close to zero, largely because there is close to
no debt this is a company which can weather some difficult times, however while the debt remains
low, the equity is decreasing as well

Osteopathic Reflection
Brushing my teeth, I look in the mirror. Aside from the toothpaste making its way through my beard, I
appear to be like any other college student you ll see. I am young, active, a bit stressed at times, and
probably running late to something. It has taken me years to realize, however, that the reflection I see
is unidimensional. The mirror does not reflect who I am: a mosaic of interacting identities. This
emergent property of multidimensional identities may not be reflected in the mirror, but it is the
driving reason behind my decision to pursue medicine.
An expectation of an osteopathic physician is to express empathy for all patients, regardless of
ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or beliefs. As a student volunteer, I traveled to underserved
communities in the Dominican Republic and Panama where I learned that medicine has the power to
unify people, build bridges, and communicate and collaborate across cultures. Though I had
challenged my own sense of reality before, walking in the shoes of patients, many of whom lived in
impoverished conditions, gave me to opportunity to understand just how different two lives can be. I
was able to differentiate between up close empathy and distant sympathy. Despite a language barrier, I
examined and diagnosed at least twenty patients each day, conceptualizing the different steps a
physician must take when interacting with a patient. I am now involved in a student run clinic that
provides a multitude of healthcare services to a rural,

  • 2. Rapid Urbanization And Violent Conflicts 1. Introduction There are numerous social, economic, cultural, and political issues that accompany rapid urbanization. Concerns about rapid urbanization and violent conflicts have long been uttered in different respects: mainly this concern have related to the capacity of social orders to adjust to such development, and the likelihood that it may increase urban violence and insecurity. And on the other hand, this has related to concerns that growing political and social demands would inevitably follow the upsurge of masses in urban centres (xxx, xxx). The assumption is that political and social questions that accompany rapid urbanization could exceed the institutional capacity of a state and yield disenchantment of migrants expectations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite these results and the ebb and flow of academic interest for the issue, the potential links between rapid urbanization and violent conflicts still deserve consideration. The prospects that rapid urbanization can add to violence through a multiplicative interactions with different elements have not yet sufficiently examined (xxx, 54). This essay is, therefore, on the links between rapid urbanization and violent conflicts: specifically the essay looks at the factors that interface between rapid urbanization and violent conflicts with the main goal to answer the crucial question: how rapid urbanisation results in violent behaviour? This essay is structured into four parts. In the first part, introduction to this essay has presented. In the second part, the circumstances that translate the occurrence of rapid urbanization into violent conflicts will be explained. In the third part, the arguments and evidences on the link between rapid urbanization and violent conflict will be discussed, and the final part, fourth, will present the conclusion. 2. How rapid urbanization translate into violent conflicts? According to Wayne Cornelius (xxx, xxx), there are three scenarios that would move migrants into violent actions. The first scenario is related to the displacing from rural roots raises economic disappointment among migrants as the quick flood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On 1960s Religion The 1960s was a rapid, evolutionary new burst in religious change. People during this era ignored their parents and grandparents values, and made their own. This caused a dramatic decrease in churchgoing numbers, and christian values in the south. These changes can be connected with the direction the world was going. Politics, mobility, and great leadership had a huge impact on the religion of the 1960s. After this period, Christians still, even today, try to return the values of traditionalism (Matthews). The politics of the time brought great change, president John F. Kennedy, was the first Catholic president of the United states. The mobility of the times brought new ideas to the American south, and denounced protestant thought. The immigration of 1965 opened the U.S. up to massive immigration. Many immigrants from all over Asia came to America during this time bringing their ancient religions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is amusing to me, that we can not agree on one united church. We are so different in our faiths, everywhere you look here has a church with its own unique faiths. I do not know why, but I feel like religion gave the southern people a sense of righteousness during the 1960s. I feel like the southern people knew their God would have wanted them separate from blacks, and try to block out the rest of worlds changes from changing the South. We try to instill these religious values in our culture I think to try and keep morals and values alive. Except, humans do not need religion to know the difference between right or wrong. • 4. Software Engineering And Intelligent Systems Essay INTRODUCTION Throughout the year I have learnt about many issues in software engineering and intelligent systems by researching for this report. In this report I will be explaining and discussing these key problems and some key techniques that can be implemented to overcome these for both software engineering and intelligent systems. SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Software Engineering is the discipline of designing and developing software projects so that they behave in an efficient and independent manner while meeting the requirement of the client. Some key problems which arise in software engineering are complexity, inefficient communication and inadequate testing. Software projects are large and take years to make. In order to reduce the risk of failure and keep track of problems, software projects must follow the correct methodology. A methodology is a set of instructions followed in order to develop projects efficiently. In software engineering, a methodology is a discipline which structures a project strongly so that it will succeed. Without a strong structure, the project will start to break down and create big problems for software engineers. KEY PROBLEMS COMPLEXITY Software projects are complex and can crash with the slightest errors. Software Engineering projects take a lot of time and can sometimes take years to code. Some projects are made with over a thousand lines of code, due to this, the chance of error increases. For example, in 1998, a crew member of the USS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler Comparing Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adolf Hitler To learn history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which we subsequently perceive as historical events. Adolf Hitler Growing up poor in a small town in Austria he had dreams of becoming famous; some would even say this dream soon became an obsession. This fascination soon engulfed his life, viewing his goals as a catalyst for a better life. After a brief stint in the army he pursued this dream and learned to use propaganda as a springboard to achieve a high ranking position in a political party. This political party was currently in power in the country he had immigrated to in his twenties, a country he could now call his own. Two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Background I believe today that I am acting in the sense of the Almighty Creator. By warding off the Jews I am fighting for the Lord s work. Adolf Hitler To fully understand the views expressed in this paper, it is necessary to understand Adolf Hitler and to provide context as to why Schwarzenegger is being compared to what many believe to be the embodiment of evil itself. This section of the paper will focus on the background of both states: California and Nazi Germany. In 1929 Germany was hit with the final blow to an already struggling nation; the Great Depression. Black Tuesday hit Germany in the midst of a naval blockade, extreme hyperinflation, and poverty for many Germans. Many historians believe that the blockade against Germany was the main reason for the rise of Nazism and consequently World War II. Regardless, Germany was in a time of crisis and in desperate need of salvation. In 2003, California, while not suffering from the same magnitude of crisis as pre Nazi Germany, was by no means experiencing prosperity. California was in the midst of an extreme unbalance: suffering from a massive debt, a governor who seemed unable to help, and increasing unemployment. Residents were exhausted of false promises made by former governors and looking for change. A recall was ordered on Governor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflection On The Process Of Bid Glass This was my first time ever doing stained glass. My goal for this class was to learn the process of stained glass, grow in patience, and grow in appreciation for the art. With all of the different aspects, I feel like this goal was met. The first part of the process was cutting the glass. For this, the tools needed was a glass/ball cutter, running pliers, grozing pliers, and (of course) your glass. Using the ball cutter, you make a score on the glass. This should only ever be done once. After that is made, take the pliers to break the glass. The running pliers are used for straight lines What you do is align the cut with the line on the pliers and pinch, and the glass should break. The grozing pliers are used for non straight cuts. For this, you take the pliers in one hand and your hand as the other and go on either side of the score, then break or snap it upwards. Throughout this process I had a good amount of struggles. I first struggled with figuring out how to position my hand, the amount of pressure that I should put on the glass, and the angle to put my hand. Another struggle that I encountered was breaking off the glass that had a curved score. Sometimes the glass wouldn t break, or other times the glass shattered . At one point I ended up deeply cutting myself, but I went on with a makeshift band aid and got all of the pieces cut. After all the pieces were cut, I went to the grinder and grinded them all. This didn t seem to challenge me at all, but rather proved to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Titration Of Unknown Amino Acid Lab Report Titration of unknown Amino Acids with Acid and Base for Identification Chemistry 315 biochemistry Section 01 L1 Dr. Samantha Iverson Submitted by: Farnaz Imtiaz Submitted to: Mariana Dorrington June 20th, 2017 Introduction Amino acids are the basic building blocks of the body and sources of energy, like fats and carbohydrates. They are structurally characterized by the fact that they contain nitrogen (N), whereas fats and carbohydrates do not. Therefore, only amino acids are capable of forming tissues, organs, muscles, skin and hair. Chains of amino acid make proteins. Only 20 mL of amino acid was used for both titrations. Around 5mL of HCl was used in the acid titration of the unknown but only 1.55 mL of base was used for the Basic titration. The table of acidic and basic titrations is attached where it shows that the amino acid therefore was acidic since it took a lot more acid than the base for titration. Molar equivalence was calculated using the concentration and volumes of amino acid and titrants. A graph was plotted which showed two pH value, one at 1.5 and the other at 0.5. The pH at 1.5 was 2.53 and at 0.5 was 10.15. The pI was then calculated to be 6.34. • 10. The Struggle Of A Father s Life On Sundays By Robert Hayden In this poem, the author Robert Hayden dramatizes the conflict of a father son relationship, inviting us to recall our past relationships with parents with him. This poem was written so the speaker can reflect on his own life and help the reader connect to him. The opening stanza sets the scene with the speaker telling us about his father s life on Sundays. Note how the author uses imagery to show his inner feelings of coldness towards his father at time, using words like blue black cold (line 2) and cracked hands (line 30). These words also show a sense of loneliness. Sunday is a day of rest for most people. A working man should be able to sleep in rather than waking up early. But that was not the case for the man in this poem, or the speaker s father. He wakes up early and begins his daily tasks. The coldness expressed in this first stanza goes beyond the literal temperature of the room. This coldness describes the ungrateful attitude of his family, none of them having ever thanked their father for his hard work in the household. This poem is written in past tense, allowing the speaker to realize the amount of regret he holds for his ingratitude. The use of the words cold, splintering, breaking in the second stanza reinforces the feeling of coldness in the first stanza. Splintering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his time in prison he managed to self educate about the religion of Islam and identify his true self. Living in America where black kids are discouraged and laughed at for trying to pursue a professional career, Malcolm X dropped out of high school because the education system failed him. From having his family s house burned by the KKK, to having his father killed by a white supremacy group and leaving his mother destroyed, Malcolm had a deep sense of hatred towards white people in America. This resulted in Malcolm developing this philosophy that black people should in no way accept the help of white people. While he was in prison learning about the nation of Islam, his views on white America grew strong. Leading to his advocacy to Pan Africanism. Malcolm shares in the book, that freedom, independence and self respect could never be achieved by the Negro in America, and that therefore the Negro should leave America to the white man and return to his African land of origin. He simply believed that unless black people create a black nation, blacks in America could never be economically stable due to the discrimination they will continuously face. Later on in the book, he contradicts himself after his trip to Mecca and changes his views. Neglecting his past belief of Pan Africanism, Malcolm came to the realization that blacks in America could be successful with the participation of whites fighting alongside them for equal rights. • 13. Masculine Ideas Of Power In The Bostonians And King... Masculine ideas of power vary between characters and how they treat those around them. Power usage in this sense is exercised in Henry James s The Bostonians and Mark Twain s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court. The two main male characters in these novels both have a need to control others. From the time periods they are set and live in, men were in charge of most things, so this is seen many times. Comparing James s and Twain s ideas of this, though, are shown most in Basil Ransom and Hank Morgan. Basil, reigning from the Confederate South, has the urge to have power of Verena and what she does with her own life. Hank uses his power skills to control an entire community of people in a period of time that is not his own. Both men see themselves as Gods , in a sense, over others from their beliefs in their own power from their uses of their voices, opinions, and appearances. Power has many definitions and a very long etymological history. However, the most common is listed in the Oxford English Dictionary as the, Capacity to direct or influence the behavior of others; personal or social influence, (Power, n.1 ). Power defines literary characters, movements, real people, and more. Masculinity is also prevalent when looking at power. The Oxford English Dictionary also has masculinity listed as meaning, The state or fact of being masculine; the assemblage of qualities regarded as characteristic of men; maleness, manliness, (Masculinity, n ). What Are The Five Forces Analysis Of The Toy Industry According to Statista, a statistic tracking website on global revenues and market shares the global revenue of the global toy market was $84.1bn in 2012, and the U.S. toy market size was estimated to be worth 21.18bn. (http://www.statista.com/statistics/194395/revenue of the global toy market since 2007/) In conducting a five forces analysis of the toy industry as it currently stands, we must look at all five forces that affect competition. This includes factors affecting the strength of buyer bargaining power, factors affecting competition from substitute parts, factors affecting the strength of supplier bargaining power, factors affecting the threat of entry, and finally factors affecting the strength of competitive rivalry. In terms of factors affecting the strength of buyer bargaining power, the buyer bargaining power is weak. Buyers purchase the toys infrequently and in small quantities. The average seller isn t going to be buying pallets of a certain toy; they want to purchase just what they need and the same goes for frequency of purchase. Also the costs are often fluctuating due to competing brands and substitute products. In some instances the seller s brand reputation is important to the buyer, for example there may be multiple block toys to play with but some kids may not be satisfied playing with knock off Legos, and may only want to purchase the real thing (same with Barbie s, or other well known toys). Bargaining power can also be high at times as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the reasons why Asian women want to look white is through gaining benefit in finding a partner. Based on a study of 692 undergraduates, the study has found that white women are more likely to be asked out compared to non white women. The media seeks to reinforce the framework of heteronormativity through the lifestyle held by hegemonic social norms. The public s attitude to cosmetic surgery is heavily influenced by the crucial role of the sociocultural in particular to the promotion of the body and beauty in the mass media (Moon, 2015). Within the global media, the image of Asian women is fixed towards depicting social qualities as exotic, feminine, and seductive. Due to these depictions of Asian women in the media, Asian women are seen as dolls. In addition, Asian women are not portrayed as humans compared to white women (Hall, 1995). This negative image of observing Asian women as inferior humans further affect Asian women status within the concept of heteronormativity. Therefore, Asian women perform cosmetic surgery to look white in order to alter their image and gain their power. The role of the mass media contributes strong self images that correspond with the consumer culture, in regard to the desire to buy the ideal beauty commodity (Askegaard, Gertsen, Langer, 2015). Since western beauty is strongly penetrating within almost every edge of the media in Asia. The beauty ideal of Asia is largely westernized through the extent where most models or celebrities are western or look western. With this implementation, Western and domestic models that are embodied to western features are heavily promoted along the goods in the Asian Market (Kim, 2003). This type of system allows a company to dispose and remove unnecessary items properly, prevent the accumulation of these items, and help decipher if these are costs that need to be rid of. Costs tend to pile up on businesses and companies in the form of wastes and defects. Some situations that are an example of this are utilization suffering because item changeovers take too long, product is rushed in because an important part cannot be found, and output not meeting its full potential because of crew to crew variations (Bresko 2014). Many companies attempt to advance through Six Sigma, Lean, or other initiatives. However, some studies have been reported that two thirds of other initiatives fail to meet the expectations of the organization leaders (Ghodrati and Zulkifli 2013). Learning about the certain methods of the different systems is not the issue when putting these into play, but putting them into their daily organizational actions is. Some of these situations where they fail to put these into play is process improvement, continuous improvement, and the procedures of the initiatives not being long standing. By using Penelope s viewpoint, Atwood is able to expose the double standards and misogyny in the Odyssey, as well as alter Penelope s original character into someone with intellect and an astute way of thinking. For instance, a double standard found in the Odyssey was that being a good and heroic man meant one must have sex with a lot of women; but if a woman was to have sex with lots of men, she would be considered tainted and impure. Dissociative Disorder Somatic and Dissociative Syndromes Let us start by defining somatic symptom disorder, malingering, factitious disorder, and dissociative disorders according to the DSM 5. A somatic symptom disorder is a disorder in which persons become excessively distressed, concerned, and anxious, about bodily symptoms they are experiencing. Malingering is intentionally faking to achieve some external gains, such as financial compensation or military deferment. Factitious disorder is a disorder in which an individual feigns or induces physical symptoms, typically for the purpose of assuming the role of a sick person. This is mental disorder where an individual overthinks about his/her symptoms. Thoughts are harder to control than physical actions in my opinion and this is a disorder that is brought up because of thoughts and emotions. When discussing conversion disorder, a disorder in which medically unexplained bodily symptoms affect voluntary motor and sensory functions, the emotions that are so hard to get rid of actually induce physical symptoms. Our mind and bodies are connected more than we think and this disorder proves it. I find this disorder difficult to question is legitimacy because the symptoms are real. Even though the doctors cannot find physical causes, they can find physical proof of the disorder. The last disorder to discuss is dissociative disorder. A dissociative disorder is similar to a conversion disorder in that there are no physical reasons for the symptoms but the symptoms are real. Even though clinicians cannot find physical causes, there must be something that happens with patients of this disorder because most of the time the disorder appears more than once in patients. • 42. The Western Frontier Is An Important Part Of American Society The Western Frontier is an important part of American society that captures the archetypal curiosity that ever American has in search of new opportunities. Frederick Jackson Turner s essay titled, The Significance of the Frontier in American History explains the relevance of westward expansion in the late nineteenth century. Turner describes the western frontier as the meeting point between savagery and civilization because once one crosses the boundary from the East to the West; the laws of civilization no longer apply. The West is characterized by its lawlessness and violence as the settlers struggle to stake their claim on the rough terrain (Turner). Two western classics that are complete polar opposites Willa Cather s My Antonia and Cormac McCarthy s Blood Meridian both depict the civilized but also the savage aspects of the western frontier. The difficult and ever changing geography of the American West shapes each character in both stories, since the American West is a harsh and tedious environment, it allows Darwin s principle of survival of the fittest to be tested. In My Antonia, the protagonist, Antonia, is shown to the reader through the memory of Jim Burden as his childhood sweetheart. Antonia represents the captivating and peaceful beauty of the western prairie even as it endures harsh conditions. On the other hand, Blood Meridian portrays a horribly savage image of the West, where one is in a dog eat dog world and must choose to kill or be killed. McCarthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Rue Morgue Vs The Bone Collector A question that is often debated is that of what makes a good story. In the 1800s, Edgar Allan Poe created one list of rules that he think make a good detective story. These include requirements such as clues must be present to allow the reader to solve the crime and a detective with strong intuitive skills (Class Handout). Two mystery tales that attempted to follow these rules are Poe s own short story, The Murders in the Rue Morgue, and a movie, The Bone Collector. According to these guidelines, The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a better mystery story than The Bone Collector because of the detective s strong but reasonable intuitive skills and the fair clues that are given to the reader. Both stories have detectives present in them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Long before Poe made his rules about detective stories, Aristotle made his own requirements for a tragedy, such as fear, morality, and spectacle. (Class Handout) Poe s story ignores many of the requirements that Aristotle gives for a tragedy. The reader feels no fear in Poe s story because the detective is never in any true danger. In The Bone Collector, the detective is in near constant danger and spectacle is used to convey this fear to the watcher. The Bone Collector also has an element of morality that is entirely missing in Poe s story. At the end of the story, the villain, Marcus Andrews, makes it about more than just the story. He claims that because the detectives couldn t solve the clues, [the murdered victim s] blood is on [the detectives ] hands (The Bone Collector). Instead of trying to bring in this morality into Poe s story, Poe instead makes the story about an orangutan that doesn t even have morals. While all this makes The Bone Collector a good tragedy, it does not make it a good mystery, because a mystery requires specific criteria. The Murders in the Rue Morgue is a good mystery but a poor Aristotelian tragedy because it is missing these vital ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Charles Marius Barbeau s Ethnography and the Canadian Folklore Born on 5 March 1883, in Sainte Marie de Bauce, Charles Marius Barbeau is widely seen as the first Canadian educated anthropologist. Upon graduating, Marius was awarded as the first French Canadian recipient the Cecil Rhodes scholarship which allowed him to study at Oxford University where he was introduced to the emerging field of Anthropology. « Je [voulais] savoir comment l homme a été créé » he later explained to Marcel Rioux. But his sometimes contradicting statements require a more precise study, so we will simply present his main positions, and state some of the opposing points without thoroughly analysing them. » (Mauss 1902) In the same line of thought, Franz Boas the famous American anthropologist, also a contemporary of Barbeau stresses the need to focus on collecting data. He even criticizes social and anthropological theory makers. (See Boas 1920) Barbeau was, at the beginning of his career, much influenced by these ideas. He collected data on many aboriginal societies mainly of the Northwest Coast, of Québec and of the North of the USA and later, at the suggestion of Boas, he started recording folk songs, legends and myths from French Canadians. But we will see that Barbeau did advance some quite controversial theories later in his career. This collecting of folkloric data opened Barbeau s eyes to the need to salvage the cultures of Native and French Canadians alike. « Fortement inspiré par l ethnologie de la ... The Christian theory of creation proposes God created the earth and universe in six days and rested on the seventh, known as the Sabbath, a day to rest and worship God. Man and woman were created on the sixth day, named Adam and Eve, and placed in a paradise like location on earth known as the Garden of Eden. God specifically prohibited them from eating the fruit of a particular tree from the garden, referred to as the tree of knowledge. Sally cherished this trophy all her life and passed it down to her children since it taught her that you do not have to work hard for anything in your life and you will still be rewarded! As you can see, there are some issues with this scenario. In fact there is a lot of controversy on whether all children should receive trophies, or only a select few. I believe that giving children too many unearned trophies not only has no value, but has a negative effect on their character. Instead it causes them to underachieve. In addition to this, it takes away the glory from the kids who truly do work hard. Organizational Control Organizational control is the systematic process through which managers regulate organizational activities to make them consistent with expectations established in plans, targets and standards of performance (Kuratko, 2001). These organizational expectations are a collection of goals and accountabilities represented in the budget, which help establish performance metrics, document actual performances, allow comparison between the estimated and actual performance, and allow for corrective actions (Jones George Hill, 2003). There are enough assets to pay short term claims, but the stock performance lags the S P by almost 2/3 raising the question in my mind if they have too much non performing assets on hand which need to be reevaluated. The quick ratio answers the question of whether an organization can pay claims without selling inventory. Inventory is not necessarily worth the amount represented on the books, and removing it from this calculation gives a better view of whether or not an organization has liquid assets available. If a company has too much of its liquidity tied up in inventory, it will be dependent on selling that inventory to finance its operations and will have a low quick ratio (Motley Fool). Leverage ratios measure the use of debt or equity to finance operations, with the use of debt becoming problematic if profits cannot cover the interest on the debt (Jones George Hill, 2003). Two common such ratios are debt to assets ratio and times covered ratio. Debt to assets shows to what extent the organization is financed with debt, with a lower number being more favorable. With a low number, an organization and its investors can be more confident a company can weather difficult times. The mirror does not reflect who I am: a mosaic of interacting identities. This emergent property of multidimensional identities may not be reflected in the mirror, but it is the driving reason behind my decision to pursue medicine. An expectation of an osteopathic physician is to express empathy for all patients, regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or beliefs. As a student volunteer, I traveled to underserved communities in the Dominican Republic and Panama where I learned that medicine has the power to unify people, build bridges, and communicate and collaborate across cultures. Though I had challenged my own sense of reality before, walking in the shoes of patients, many of whom lived in impoverished conditions, gave me to opportunity to understand just how different two lives can be. I was able to differentiate between up close empathy and distant sympathy.
