Police Corruption In The Law Enforcement Department
In the United States of America, corruption in the law enforcement department are continuing to be
a major problem in the community. Some police officers are using their authority to attain profit
and pleasure from resident, while other good police are continuing to do what s right. Police
corruption can happen anywhere, but major cities are dealing with corruptions such as Los
Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. For example, six Philadelphia law
enforcementofficers were arrested for kidnapping a drug suspect and threating to cause harm to his
family, which led to holding the suspect over the balcony railing from a 18th floor building (Assefa,
2014). Their misconduct and unethical leadership became one of the worse situations

Comparison Between Fixed Cost And Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group
Fixed Cost On the other hand Dr. Pepper Snapple Group does have a large number of fixed cost.
Fixed costs are cost that are constant and must be paid no matter what level of the activity is
chosen. DP has over 21 manufacturing centers and 115 distribution centers around the world,
according to Dr. Pepper Snapple Group s annual report. This means that DP is paying rent on a
large number of buildings, leasing our buying equipment that they use at these facilities in order to
produce DP. Those are example of fixed cost, cost that have to be paid no matter what, this also
means that if you have a bad year and your company did not make as much as it did the year
before you still have to pay for the rent and utilities on all of those facilities.
Variable Cost Unlike fixed cost variable cost you have some room to play, variable cost is all
about changing inputs around to change output. Or as defined by Thomas and Maurice variable

to be exact. In their annual report Dr. Pepper Snapple group showed to have quite an impressive
year when it came to growth and profit. With the profit of the company being up this also lead to
the current stock value as growing. This was explained both in the annual report and the current
stock market standing. In the 2014 annual report the Dr. Pepper dollar share was only up 0.1
points from the previous year. The largest amount of grown that the company experienced was in
Latin America. According to yahoo finance the stock as been rising ever since the first of the
year, closing everyday higher than the last. The current economic profit of the Dr. Pepper Snapple
group is positive, with their current status in the market. They are able to have a positive economic
profit because they are making money after they cover all their fixed cost.

Rock And Roll Culture
The evolution of musicals has grown and changed tremendously throughout history. They have
developed into something that no one ever dreamed they would be while leaving a gigantic mark
on society. Rock and roll was one of the biggest changes that happened to the musical theatre
industry. Not only was this cultural change a huge impact for society but also in musicals resulting
in a huge change of what the content of musicals were and will be in the future. Rock and rollbegan
in the late 1940 s and early 1950 s and this is when it first left a lasting impression on the public

The Invention Of The Dye Industry
During WWII there were many advancements in modern weaponry, the production of larger
weapons and faster planes allowed for devastation across the globe. Many of these weapons were
very effective and while the war trudged on as did the new technology that arose from the hellish
time. German forces, at this time, were on the frontlines in trenches as they tried to push back
British and French troops. Although Germany s armies were strong they still struggled to advance
on the British and French troops. Meanwhile in Germany, the dye industry was steadily producing
economic growth but, the German army had other plans. These plans would eventually change the
dynamic of war itself.
It was 1915, German forces grew tired and started to look for other ways to advance on British
and French troops. As stated before the dye industry was a great weapon. Except it wasn t the dye
that was used but a chemical used to create the dye, chlorine. The German army filled canisters of
chlorine and bought them to the battlefield. As they opened the canisters yellowish gas flowed
from the metal cases directly toward two French regiments. The French regiments watched as this
gas flowed toward them, before they knew it the gas had reached them. One by one French
soldiers started choking on the gas as their lungs filled with chlorine. As the gas melted the tissues
of their lungs French troops fell, all of them. Two French divisions were destroyed, in no time the
gas had done what it was intended to

Plaque Psoriasis Research Paper
BACKGROUND:
Psoriasis is a multi systemic, chronic, inflammatory disease, with the most common manifestations
being in the skin and joints.4, 5 It is estimated that 1 3% of the population has psoriasis, though it
may be less prevalent in Africa and Asia than other parts of the world.5 Psoriasisis further divided
into different categories, the most common of which is plaque psoriasis, which affects 80 90%
of patients with psoriasis.4 The defining characteristic of plaque psoriasis is the presence of
erythematous, sharply demarcated, scaly, white or silver plaques, which can range in their size
and coverage of the body.4 These plaques may be itchy and bleed if disturbed.5 The most common
sites for plaques are the trunk, buttocks, scalp, and limbs.4 Additionally about 1/3 of patients with
plaque psoriasis also suffer from nail pitting or dystrophy,6 and 1/3 of patients with psoriasis also
have psoriatic arthritis, which manifests in the joints.7 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

smoking, stress, cold weather, alcohol abuse, and drugs such as beta blockers, lithium, NSAIDs,
and tetracyclines.8 Though psoriasis is primarily known as a skin and joint condition, it can also
increase the risk of non melanoma skin cancer, lymphoma, and cardiovascular disease.6 Psoriasis

Preventing infections in the hospitalized patient always has been a performance measure and is
part of The Joint Commission s national patient safety goals for 2015 (Joint Commission, 2015).
Controlling infections in the hospitalized patient is an evidenced based practice known to improve
patient s health, reduce costs, prevent healthcare associated infections (HAI), and prevent the
spread of multi resistant organisms (CDC, 2013). Hand hygieneis the routine use of hand washing,
antiseptic hand wash, antiseptic hand rub, or surgical hand antisepsis (CDC, 2013). In the

Learning To Die In The Anthropocene Book Summary
Title Goes Here. Learning to Die in the Anthropocene by Roy Scranton helps humanity learn to
survive in the carbon emission created world know as the Anthropocene. Helpful can be defined
as offering assistance, which this book does by spreading awareness about global warming,
helping the reader learn how to die in the Anthropocene and warning of the lack of action.
Learning to Die in the Anthropocene is a helpful book. This book is helpful because it assists in
spreading awareness about global warming. Scranton takes a scientific approach to global warming,
presenting what will happen, and why, we as the human species, are unlikely to solve it. Scranton
writes, climatologists now predict [a rise] in global temperatures 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit... Show

. . A future of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer will mean the arctic ocean will be ice free in the
summer . . . warming of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit will eventually lead to sea levels 90 to 200 feet
higher. (35 36) Scranton helps the reader understand how drastic a change of seven degrees in
global temperature is by explaining how seven degrees colder has affected the planet and how
seven degrees warmer will affect the planet. The book is also helpful because it assists with
spreading awareness that we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus
preventing us from wasting more time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and
sequestration (CCS) are common propositions as solutions. However, they have their own
problems. Renewable energy sources have problems that revolve around how they are not
cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics question whether renewable energy will ever be
a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that its cost to energy ratios are simply too
high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up and maintain and their energy is
not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the problem of cost with
renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a new and
expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly
enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice,
CCS is unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that
might make a difference. This book is helpful because it spreads awareness of what global warming
can cause and why we are unlikely to solve it. However, Scranton does provide the reader with a

Essay Roman Pool
Roman Pool
The private residence built by newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst in San Simeon,
California is quite a site to behold. Originally named La Cuesta Encantada it is now often referred
to as Hearst Castle. It is located on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the Santa Lucia
Mountains. The estate took 28 years to build and includes the main house, guest houses, two pools,
and acres of gardens, terraces and walkways. Its rooms and gardens are decorated with an
impressive collection of antiques from around the world. One particularly interesting building is the
Roman Pool.

274.) Only guests of Hearst were allowed to use his pool whereas anyone could go into the Baths
of Caracalla. Both the Roman Pool and the baths could be used by men and women. The main
function of the pool and the baths was for recreation and socializing. Hearst s pool was not used for
bathing.
The Roman Pool is decorated from ceiling to floor with 1 square mosaic tiles. These glass tiles,
called smalti, are either colored (mainly blue or orange) or are clear with fused gold inside. The
intense colors and shimmering gold of the tiles combine to create a breathtaking effect. The
designs created by the tiles were developed by muralist Camille Solon. The inspiration for some
of these designs came from the 5 C. Mausoleum of Galla Placidia (Kastner, p. I 261.)
Galla Placidia was the daughter of Roman emperor Theodosius. She built a cruciform oratory for
her own mausoleum where she was to lie between her brother Honorius and her son Valentinian.
This monument to her is located in Ravenna, Italy (Hutton, p. 203.)
Hearst was affected by the beauty of the mosaics in the mausoleum and incorporated similar
styles into his Roman Pool. The walls of the mausoleum are marble but the vaulted arches are
composed of blue and gold smalti. The roofs and dome are covered with mosaics of night blue,
powdered with stars (Hutton, p. 204.) The Roman Pool is similar to the mausoleum with its blue
and gold color scheme and stylized star

According to MSNBC, the first cell phone was developed by Dr. Martin Cooper. The phone was
considered a brick that weighed 28 oz and 13 x 1.75 x 3.5 in. In the early 80s, many cell phones
were not made to be hand held. Back then, phones were installed in the car. This created a high
demand for car phones. Early edition of car phones like the earlier version of the cell phones were
big, shaped like tote bags. They needed the battery of the car, through the lighter outlet for power.
Other models came in the briefcase forms. The briefcase held batteries so the user could make calls

Athletes Should Not Be Paid For Their Skill
Division I intercollegiate athletics is no easy feat. Whether it is basketball, softball, baseball, soccer,
or gymnastics, athletes devotion and sacrifice is innumerable. Athletes spend countless hours
throughout the year training and performing in competition. According to the NCAA bylaw 17.1,
athletes can only spend 20 hours a week with a maximum of 4 hours a day on athletically related
activities. This rule excludes pre season and post season training which account for the other 50%
of the year. Although most athletes get enjoyment out of simply playing, some athletes feel they
should be paid for their skill. There is an arising controversy regarding athletes not being paid for
the amount of commitment they put into their sport. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There have been many scandals where athletes were arrested for betting on sports events and
fantasy sports. For example, in 1997 two basketball players from Arizona state, Stevin Smith and
Isaac Burton, pleaded guilty to point shaving on four home games. These two players intentional
missed shots and cut points in games for money. They made almost up to $100,000 from point
shaving. Ultimately, money made them lose sight of the purpose of playing college athletics which
is for enjoyment. Instead of playing for another two years, Stevin Smith and Isaac Burton served
a year in prison. If athletes are paid, more athletes will face the same fate as Stevin Smith and
Isaac Burton because they will be able to bet without the consequence of the NCAA rule.
Although the rule will not longer be in place, betting on sports is illegal in every state except
Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, and Montana. Therefore, the NCAA would face repercussions because
more athletes will be arrested on gambling charges. In turn, this will jeopardize the integrity of the
intercollegiate sports. Instead of being seen as respectable and admirable athletes, intercollegiate
sports will be seen as full of money hungry athletes.
Although athletes help generate money for athletic programs and institutions, money distributed to
athletes would limit the amount of money available for other necessities. Many people believe
athletes deserve a share of the money they generate through the sale of

Mlab Concert Review
On November 18, 2015, I attended a UAB concert involving jazz combos and a guitar ensemble.
This concert was filled with amazing musicians, intricate solos, and thick harmonies. There were
three jazz combos and one guitar ensemble; the first set was the guitar ensemble, which
contained four guitarists and one bass player. The ensemble consisted of four songs: Swing It, a
swing style song; Samba #1 ; A Child is Born, a waltz; and Bill s Bay. The main theme of Bill s Bay
was very catchy and memorable, and the ensemble s most impressive player to me was Michael
Galanti on the bass guitar. His solos involved precise pizzicato and quick movement that I have
never witnessed in a bass player. Next, the series of jazzcombos began, and a younger group of
UAB students started to play. Their first song was The Preacher by Horace Silver, and this song
was the only song with lyrics. The singer was nearly impossible to hear because she was singing in
piano while the other group members were playing in fortissimo. Also, I was startled by how loud
the brass instruments sounded in the concert hall; however, this is due to the trumpetbeing a haut
instrument. Then, another combo began playing, and this combo was under the guidance of Carlos
Pino. The group brought more energy and more skill, and this is shown... Show more content on

The four songs in their set were either composed or arranged by a member of the group. Due to
experience, each member was comfortable on stage and highly skilled; therefore, every solo was
near perfection. This combo was unique because it had a trombone player, Henry Panion IV.
Throughout this entire concert, every performance had one thing in common. Every player
seemed to be having fun and loved to play jazz. This was my first opportunity to go to a jazz
concert, and it allowed me to hear a completely new style of music. It opened my eyes to a great

The Alternative Source Of Energy
Alternative Source of Energy Over the past years, scientist began thinking deeper into the
possibilities for energy that is renewable. They mostly looked into the sun as there number one
source, the wind and other renewable options. Indeed, the sun for many years has provided heat
for the earth whereby the energy it produces warms the earth directly and also indirectly. By so
doing the heat makes water to evaporate lakes and other water sources like rivers and streams
that eventually falls back to the earth and then filters into the ground. Overview of Geothermal
Energy When we go deep into the history of geothermal energy or rather archeologically, it is
clear the first human use of this discovery was in the North America and this was sometime
around 10,000 years ago with the settlement of the Paleo Indians near hot springs that served as a
source of warmth and healing purposes. In 1904, Italian scientist, Piero Ginori, the Co Prince
Piero Ginori Continti, established the first geothermal electric power plant in which power was
generated by the use of steam. Ginori is actually the person who is known for the discovery of
geothermal energy, (Armstead, H. C. H. 2008). The three main types of power plant designs,
which use geothermal as the source of energy, are, flash steam, dry steam, and binary cycle power
stations. These sources are divided into high temperature resources and low temperature resources.
The preceding two sources are used for generating heat and

Silent Hill, Directed By Christophe Gans
As Stephen King once said Our emotions and our fears form their own body, and we recognize
that it demands it s own exercise to maintain proper muscle tone...But anticivilization emotions
don t go away, and they demand periodic exercise. In the film Silent Hill, directed by Christophe
Gans, a nine year old girl named Alessa is forced to live a life of torment. Alessa s fear and pain

physical body creating a doppelgänger of herself; Dark Alessa. The darkest side of her own
soul promised to make everyone who ever hurt her fall into her darkest dreams. A systematic
exposure to hatred and maltreatment led Alessa to give up her innocence and invest herself
fully to seeking revenge. As a baby Alessa was born to be condemned as being a bastard child

of the child s birth) relationship. Alessa grew up alone in the world; at school her classmates

The Medical And Dental Industry For 3d Printing
3D Printing is a unique kind of printing system, which takes a 3D image file and creates a
physical 3D image. As I mentioned before 3D files are generated from what is called a .stl file,
which is a compressed triangular meshed surface. These .stl files were originally intended for a
rapid prototyping process called Stereolithography, and in the beginning were generated by CAD
programs; however, because MRI and CT s are surface scans, they too can generate a .stl file.
These .stl files have become a world standard for exchanging 3D mesh type objects between
programs (McNeel, Sep. 2015, par. 3). Since MRI s and CT s can be scanned and converted into
stl files it has paved the way into many different aspects of the medical and dental industry for 3D
printing. When I say the medical and dental industry I am talking about many different avenues
within those industries.
Let us first take a look at the dental industry and the latest developments and how they will
impact our lives. Have you ever considered braces for fixing yours or your loved ones teeth?

they are using a plastic form called invisalign instead of metal. These are all created with 3D

On the Road
Jack Kerouac was an American writer and poet of French Canadian descent who made a
significant mark in history in writing during the post World War II era. He was recognized as the
leader of the Beat movement generation and most popular book, On the Road which was published
in 1957. The Beat Generation was known as the movement that was started by a group of authors
that researched and influenced American culture and politics at the time. It can be understood to
say that the Beat Generation was the precursor for the Flower Children of the 1960 s. These group
of authors of the Beat Generation included Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Sal
Paradise and others. Majority of the work of the Beat Generation was recognized and published
during the 1950s. Jack Kerouac s first novel Town and City was published in 1950 was an
autobiography of small town values and inspirations city life. Unfortunately, his first novel did
not give him much recognition. Jack Kerouac also wrote The Dharma Bums, Visions of Cody,
The Subterraneans, Desolation Angels, Lonesome Traveler and several other novels. He

Pseudo-Profound Bullshit
Pennycook, Cheyne, Barr, Koehler and Fugelsang s paper On the Reception and Detection of
Pseudo Profound Bullshit (2015) was about multiple studies done on the reception and detection of
bullshit. Pennycook et al. examined the mechanisms behind bullshit reception and created valid
measures of bullshit receptivity. The goal of the study was to see if there were consistent and
significant differences in the ability to detect pseudo profound bullshit. Pennycook et al. (2015)
state bullshit is something that implies, but does not contain adequate meaning or truth (p.549).
They suggest that there is a spectrum of bullshit, and that pseudo profound bullshit is an extreme

Deepak Chopra s tweets were used as bullshit statements throughout the studies, and it was found
that knowledge of who he is and his tweets are not a confounding factor. Participants were asked to
state the profundity of statements provided to them, and would then answer tests on verbal
intelligence, heuristics, religious beliefs, cognitive reflections, ontological beliefs, paranormal
beliefs, numeracy, and analytical cognition (tests vary between studies). In studies 1 and 2,
Pennycook et al. (2015) found that participants often failed to detect bullshit statements and found
correlations with related variables, but were unable to tell what the associations were driven by. In
study 3 they found that response bias plays a role in receptivity of bullshit and may explain its
association with analytic thinking. Study 4 results support the idea that the difference between
profundity ratings for pseudo profound bullshit and motivational quotes can be used to measure
bullshit sensitivity (p.552 558). When the results of all four studies are looked at as a whole,
Pennycook et al. (2015) prove that when vague, meaningless statements are rated as significant, it is
can be considered a psychological phenomenon that is related to variables of theoretical interest
(p.559). They suggest that individuals that are more receptive to bullshit are less reflective,

A Separate Peace By John Knowles
The war was not only happening in the real world, but also in the Devon School of Prep. The
book A Separate Peace by John Knowles is mostly about a boy, Gene, who is receiving his
education and learning about how to become a soldier to fight in the second World War. He and
his best pal, Finny, are both being forced to mature and grow up before being drafted to fight, but
before that even happens Gene s jealousy gets the best of him which will threaten his friendship.
Throughout the novel John Knowlesuses a great deal of literary elements to help add imagery, thrill,

Another way Knowles uses paradoxes in his story is when Phineas tells Gene he s sorry for
pulling him away from school and that Gene is his best pal (John Knowles 41). This proves that
even though their friendship is slowly falling apart Finny still wants things to be okay between
them, for example he hesitates before reinsuring Gene at this teen age period in life the proper
person is you best pal. He hesitated and then added, which is what you are, and there was silence
on his dune. (Knowles 41). No this is not a statement paradox, but it is a paradox because
throughout the entire novel Gene believes Finny is his best pal, yet when Finny tells Gene, Gene
becomes flabbergasted and cannot believe so and after Finny s statement he thinks to himself I
should have told him then that he was my best friend also and rounded off what he had said. I
started to; I nearly did. But something held me back. Perhaps I was stopped by that level of
feeling, deeper than thought, which contains the truth, (Knowles 41). He doesn t believe so
because of his jealousy of Finny. His jealousy will become a barrier between the two boys that will
bring them closer together and completely separate them.

Louisiana should be concerned about the wetlands because of the wildlife and fisheries. Without
it, Louisiana would not be able to supply seafood and wildlife. Another concern, is the land going

wetlands came from the coastal and offshore oil and gas development (p.332). Also, there is some
thought that humans play a role in the destruction. According to Allured and Martin, swamps

Essay about Racism and Discrimination in Healthcare
Healthcare systems are microcosms of the larger society in which they exist. Where there is
structural violence or cultural violence in the larger society, so will there be evidence of
systematic inequities in the institutions of these societies. The healthcare system in Australia is one
example from a plethora of similarly situated healthcare systems in which the color of a patient s
skin or the race of his parents may determine the quality of medical received. Life expectancy and
infant mortality rates are vastly different for non Aboriginal, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islanders
residing in Australia. The life expectancy of Aboriginal men is 21 years shorter than for non
Aboriginal men in Australia. For women, the difference is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The organizational structures of political and economic systems cause and sustain the sort of
hierarchical relations that enable dramatic differences between and across sectors of societies.
Within these hierarchies, the people at the top have privilege, wealth, and power, while those at the
bottom of the hierarchy are dominated, oppressed, and exploited (Christie, 1997). People are
harmed and killed as a result of structural violence but, unlike direct violence, it occurs more
slowly. The harm or death of oppressed people may come about because some people are
deprived of food, shelter, healthcare, and other resources (Christie, 1997). Because structural
violence is embedded in a society s way of being, over the long term, groups of people may not be
able to meet their basic needs to the degree that normal development and growth is impacted.
In the 1960s, Johan Galtung posited the construct of violence as a phenomenon generated by the
existence of social barriers that deny needs satisfaction in certain sectors of society. Galtung s
conceptual framework illustrates the relationship between the structure of society and the
inequalities experienced by its citizens. Gilman s seminal definition of structural violence reads,
physical and psychological harm that results from exploitive and unjust social, political, and
economic systems (1983, p. 8).

George Zimmerman s Murder Case Analysis
These are two different cases of murder. One is supposedly out of self defense, and the other
could have been murder with intent, or accidental. It is unknown. Facts about the cases show
that George Zimmerman s murder trial could have been pressured by the public, assumedly
because he killed a black man, Trayvon Martin. Witnesses accounts and evidence from 911 calls
support Zimmerman s claim that he shot Trayvon out of self defense. Autopsy reports also
indicated that Trayvon was shot at a very close range. Witness accounts report that Trayvon was
on top of Zimmerman, beating him up. It was later reported that he had a broken nose and cuts on
the back of his head (CNN Library (b), 2016). These are evidence that aligns with Zimmerman s
story of self defense.
The only mistake that Zimmerman committed was not following Trayvon as instructed by the police
. Zimmerman had called 911 to report a suspicious person in the neighborhood. He was then
instructed not to follow the person, but he did so anyway (CNN Library (b), 2016). For one to be
charged with murder according to the State of Florida s laws, he or she must have unlawfully killed
a person constituting first degree, second degree or third degree murders (The Florida Legislature,

prosecutors and defendants face difficult challenges. The Jurors may develop some bias towards

Essay on Navajo-Hopi Lande Dispute
Navajo Hopi Lande Dispute
When first considering the Navajo Hopi land dispute as a topic of research, I anticipated a
relatively light research paper discussing the local skirmishes between the two tribes. However,
my research has yielded innumerable volumes of facts, figures and varying viewpoints on a
struggle that has dominated the two tribes for over 100 years. The story is an ever changing one,
evolving from local conflict to forcible relocation to big business interests. The incredible breadth
of the dispute s history makes it impossible to objectively cover the entire progression from all
viewpoints. I will therefore focus on current issues and their historical causes facing the two tribes

The land was officially partitioned in 1974 by mandate of P.L. 93 531 also known as the Navajo
Hopi Land Settlement Act of 1974 without the input or consent of those from both tribes actually
occupying the land in question. The partition equally divided the JUA into the Navajo Partitioned
Lands (NPL) and the Hopi Partitioned Lands (HPL). About 12,000 Navajo were stranded on newly
declared Hopi land and, likewise, about 300 Hopi families found themselves on Navajo land. Many
hold the belief that government sponsored and styled tribal council and influential energy interests
contrived the JUA dispute to promote congressional action. The US has subsequently spent over
$400 million to relocate the families to tract housing in nearby cities.
The disproportionate amount of Navajo forced to relocate heightened age old anxieties between
the Navajo and Hopi. The Navajo are still at the center of the relocation controversy as many
traditional Dineh families have chosen to remain within the HPL in defiance of 1974 s P.L. 93

The film is a visual presentation of fictional or nonfictional story that gets the audiences a sense of

The Costs And Costs Of The Cost Of Building New Orleans
Next, it is necessary to identify the land that is possibly flooded and this can be calculated as:
0.50 x 0.63 = 0.315 or 31.5% of the land is flooded. Hence the probability that the area is flooded
is 0.315 or 31.5%. Assuming the probabilities, rebuilding the city together with the levees will
amount to $1.818 trillion in 100 years. Rebuilding the levees as of 2010 was $14 million;
however, there is an additional cost of the residual risk of Katrina. This residual risk can be
calculated as: $14 / 0.6223 = $22.5 billion. This implies that rebuilding the levees would amount
to a total of $14 + $22. 5 = $36.5 billion. Thus, with these estimates, the cost of rebuilding New

In addition, some of the New Orleans residents might decide to rebuild their homes and
businesses themselves instead of waiting for the federal government. While considering
rebuilding New Orleans, a good question to ask is what the government would do with the
money that it plans to use to rebuild the city if it was diverted to other projects. The best thing to
do would be to build another city elsewhere or settling the people and businesses affected away
from the city. Another option would be to give a cash settlement to every individual, family or
business that suffered a loss and allow them to choose to rebuild in New Orleans or elsewhere.
Suppose the federal government would spend $1.818 trillion to rebuild the city but instead gives
a cash settlement to the city dwellers who are about $1.3 million people, each resident would get
about $1.39 million that is more than enough to pay for a new home and business in a different
town. One pitfall for the federal government to rebuild the city is that spending that huge amount
of money might not make sense if the residents do not want to stay. This would imply that the
new city would become obsolete despite the billions spent to rebuild. To avert this risk, the
government will need to assess whether the people want to stay and whether New Orleans needs a
big city (Glaeser, 2005). The estimated relevant expected utility The probability (p) of a hurricane

Another aspect of emotional attraction is reciprocity,...
Another aspect of emotional attraction is reciprocity, which by definition has to do with a
mutuality of some sort. In respect to attraction, it is the mutual interest. Human beings tend to
like those who like them and dislike those who dislike them. The perfect illustration of this effect
is the middle school drama scene. Most of us have probably heard or even said a line something
to the effect of, I don t like her/him because they talked badly of me. Inversely, when another
individual expresses an interest in you, you probably feel a sense of accomplishment or flattery
that causes you to show an interest in them as well (Sternberg, 2013). As much as we would like to

The types of things that those who are emotionally attracted to one another have in common
depends on what those specific people value most. While having things in common with another is
beneficial to emotional attraction, there must also be a balance of some sort. Sternberg states,
Couples are indeed happiest when they complement each other on the dimension of dominance
/submission but are about the same on the dimension of warmth (2013). It is important that two
individuals have many values and interests in common, but equally important for their strengths
and weaknesses to balance. A common example of this is one partner being spontaneous, while the
other is rational and level headed. Couples are best happy together when a working balance for
them has been reached. Arguably the biggest factor in emotional attraction is personality. But even
personality ties back into similarity versus complementarity. There could never be a dictionary
definition of what makes a good personality because it is subjective to the individual who is
evaluating the other s personality. Couples work best when their personalities are enough alike that
they share many of the same perspectives and opinions, but also different enough that they can
provide balance for each other. Social constructionism not only plays a role in physical attraction,

community to make a quick adaptation and some major remediation to avoid post disaster

Valdivia.
Before the earthquake, the RiГ±ihue Lake used the San Pedro River to discharge the water which

or fabric strips and two ropes. The scarfs or fabric strips must be long enough for you to be able
to tie the player s legs together. Divide each player into pairs of two, matching players of similar
height and build. Have each player stand beside each other and wrap their arms around each other
s waist. Than, tie the players inside legs together (the person on the left s right leg and the person
on the right s left leg). After you have successfully tied the players legs together, use the rope to
mark the starting line and the finish line. Have all the pairs of players line up at the starting line,
on your mark have all players walk as quickly as they can to the finish line. The winners will be
the pair that can cross the finish line first. This builds teamwork because you need productive
communication with your partner to be able to predict their move. You also need cooperation

The African American Culture
Introduction
War, poverty, global tension and abuse has happen since the dawn of mankind, why does this
trend happen and still alive even to this day? The reason is because as people tend to be selfish,
arrogant, and try to be over others at any cost. This world is divided in sections due to believes
and color, what if the world no longer was like that? Could this be the solution to everything if
humanity would look beyond skin and location and more on how to help out? If so the first step
towards this goal would be educating the youth to look beyond color and to always aspire for
greatness no matter their roots. Research topic The topic of GPA by raceinterested me for many
reasons. The main reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Hispanics were viewed more highly than Blacks they were still treated poorly.
They worked for barely any pay for hours and their kids went to separate schools. After many
court cases such as the Delgado case Hispanic children were allowed to go to white schools,
Cesar Chaves in the other hand was able to increase wages for many field workers. Just like the
African Americans, Hispanics are bran new to the idea of education, thus many families still have
their children working at such an early age. The Hispanic culture is a rich culture, Hispanic
families are close Knit and the most important social unit (Hispanic culture). For this very reason
Hispanics have a sense of obligation to provide material and emotional support to members of
nuclear and external family (Hispanic Culture). How does this affect GPA you might wonder?
Well because of this feeling of obligation most younglings tend to work or else they are considered
lazy or unproductive. Working during schoolresults in difficulty for getting school assignments
done which make a student look bad, in some cases students are forced to drop out to help the
family out economically. This might seem harmless to many, but the reality is this happens quite
often, and sadly these young men/women will have a family of their own and due to low
education levels most will not have a stable fanatical life, thus resulting in a constant cycle of low
education levels between the Hispanic cultures. This is almost becoming a norm to where
students don t even try because they know that they will be forced to do what their family does
for a living to support fanatically stability. Even though this is not true for every Hispanic, the
reality is that this is a very real life event that happens so

Sexual Offenders Is The Most Vilified Type Of Offenders...
Sexual offenders are the most vilified type of offenders within public opinion and the criminal
justice system. The American precedent cases of Jacob Wetterling, Pam Lyncher, Megan Kanka,
and other notorious crimes perpetrated by sexual offenders with a prior history of conviction have
demanded a response from the criminal justice system to increase public safety. In 1994, the Jacob
Wetterling Crimes against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Program was
passed (Scholle, 2000), the first piece of legislation to advocate for the development of state
maintained registries of convicted sexual offenders. The legislation has been amended numerous
times since then; in its present state, the law requires all states to maintain a registry, the
mandatory registration of convicted sex offenders after release, community notification laws in
place, and public access to the registry (Burchfield and Mingus, 2012; Lees and Tewksbury, 2006;
Petrunik, Murphy, and Fedoroff, 2008; Scholle, 2000; Tewksbury and Lees, 2006; Wagner, 2011).
Sex offender registry laws were intended to increase public safety and to reduce the reoffending
rates of sexual offenders. However, this paper will argue that registration has no effect on
recidivism rates and that the law actually negatively impacts rehabilitative goals because of the
unforeseen issues stemming from registration. An analysis of the existing body of literature
concerning registration from the United States will address the

My Papa s Waltz Literary Devices
The poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, introduces a child romping and waltzing around
with his father. Within the poem, the author emphasizes most on admiration and combines mainly
imagery and symbols to show the bond between the son and the father. In addition, a mixture of
diction and tone is used to further describe the points within the poem and characterization of the
father. Even though the narrator tells the reader about the negative events throughout the poem, the
son keeps waltzing with his father and clings on to him towards the end as his father waltzes him to
sleep.
Throughout the poem, the speaker uses first person to refer to himself as the son and refers the
father as the second person. In the first stanza, the author uses imagery to introduce his father into
the poem. The narrator mentions that his father is so drunken, his breath could make a small boy
dizzy (lines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While waltzing around, the speaker uses a hyperbole in lines 13 14 you beat time on my head,
with hands caked hard by dirt, which indicates more good than bad because the father is keeping
time on the son s head. These lines give a positive tone because it shows that the son was having
tons of fun and mentions in lines 15 16 that he clings on to his father shirt as the father waltzed him
to bed.
From the diction of the poem, this is a memory from the son of the father because he uses a more
advanced vocabulary, such as waltzed and countenance. In addition, the tense of the poem supports
the idea of the poem being a memory from the son. The identified symbol of this poem is waltzing,
because it represents the relationship between son and the father. In the beginning of the poem such
waltzing was not easy for the son but throughout the duration of the poem, the son continues which
shows his admiration and respect for his

Childhood Onset Schizophrenia And Its Effects
One of the most debilitating, devastating, and incurable mental disorders is one that is plagued by
severely abnormal functions, disturbed behaviors and the likelihood to seriously diminish nearly
all functionality of life this disorder is known as schizophrenia. While extremely rare,
schizophrenia can develop in childhood, sometimes as young as two to four years. This is referred
to as childhood onset schizophrenia(COS). Childhood onset schizophrenia is a severe form of
psychotic disorder that occurs at age 12 years or younger and is often chronic and persistently
debilitating (DSM 5). By a vast number of psychologists and other medical professionals, it is
believed to be just as virulent and malicious as adolescent and adult schizophrenia. The DSM 5
criteria for child onset schizophrenia requires at least two of the following five symptoms to be
present for no less than a month, and at least one of these must be (1), (2), or (3): (1) delusions,
(2) hallucinations, (3) disorganized speech, (4) grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior, and (5)
negative symptoms. Other criteria must include: a significantly lower level of functioning in other
areas, such as work, interpersonal relations or self care; the persistence of signs of disturbance for
at least 6 months, including at least 1 month of symptoms that meet one of the five symptoms; the
ruling out of schizoaffective disorder and depressive or bipolar disorder; and the exclusion of

The Critical Path of Rock Fest
Project management is one of the key tools that Hard Rock CafГ© uses to plan. Hard Rock s
Vice President, Chris Tomasso states there is no way to keep so many people on the same page.
Over 100,000 fans attend the Rock Fest. It is not easy to plan an event like this one within the 9
month time frame in which Tomasso must use. The challenge is staying on track. This is done by
using a MS project chart. Managers rely on project management techniques and software to
maintain schedule and budget performance.
Before beginning the project management process, you have to identify the most important ... Show

Performance should be monitored. The overall standard by which the project manager will be
evaluated would enable the project to be completed on schedule and within the cost that were
outlined before the project began. I would crash A, P, and Y because it would reduce the
completion time just in case there are any unexpected delays.
Projects are unique because it is a one time operation designed to accomplish a set of objectives in
a limited time frame. They all involve planning, preparation, and coordinating work that is to be
done. Priorities must be set in order for the project to be accomplished. Project management
techniques and software is necessary to maintain a schedule and budget performance. Project
Management is the set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that plan, organize, implement, control,
and complete projects given finite resources of people, equipment, and time.

Volcano s A Volcano Eruption By Cliff Montgomery
Volcano How to Survive Them.
When it comes to surviving, people will take whatever means are necessary to live just a little
bit longer. An example of this could be a point in the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat
sinking, Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. As a result, she was one
of the few people to actually be alive and rescued when the boats came back. When it comes to
survival, at that moment in time there is no rule book on what measure one can take to survive but
a person should know the basics. Volcanoes are a good example of this. Volcanos: How to Survive
a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery s article is effective because it acknowledges what is in
a volcano, explain what to do when a volcano is erupting and provides knowledge about what to
watch out for.
In the article: Volcano s How to Survive a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery , he gives
people a knowledge of Volcano s in depth. Montgomery first starts out giving background
information about places where volcano eruptions have occurred what the effects of those
eruptions have done to the city and the people. Next, he goes into the workshop about how
volcano s work and what is exactly inside of them that does so much harm. Lastly, he mentions is
how to protect one s self when the volcano erupts before and after the eruption.
No one really knows how volcanoes came to be but we know what is inside one. An example of
this would be in the article Volcanoes

Many of these weapons were very effective and while the war trudged on as did the new technology that arose from the hellish time. German forces, at this time, were on the frontlines in trenches as they tried to push back British and French troops. Although Germany s armies were strong they still struggled to advance on the British and French troops. Meanwhile in Germany, the dye industry was steadily producing economic growth but, the German army had other plans. These plans would eventually change the dynamic of war itself. It was 1915, German forces grew tired and started to look for other ways to advance on British and French troops. As stated before the dye industry was a great weapon. Except it wasn t the dye that was used but a chemical used to create the dye, chlorine. The German army filled canisters of chlorine and bought them to the battlefield. As they opened the canisters yellowish gas flowed from the metal cases directly toward two French regiments. The French regiments watched as this gas flowed toward them, before they knew it the gas had reached them. One by one French soldiers started choking on the gas as their lungs filled with chlorine. The book is also helpful because it assists with spreading awareness that we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus preventing us from wasting more time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) are common propositions as solutions. However, they have their own problems. Renewable energy sources have problems that revolve around how they are not cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics question whether renewable energy will ever be a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that its cost to energy ratios are simply too high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up and maintain and their energy is not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the problem of cost with renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a new and expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice, CCS is unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that might make a difference. Whether it is basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, or gymnastics, athletes devotion and sacrifice is innumerable. Athletes spend countless hours throughout the year training and performing in competition. According to the NCAA bylaw 17.1, athletes can only spend 20 hours a week with a maximum of 4 hours a day on athletically related activities. This rule excludes pre season and post season training which account for the other 50% of the year. There have been many scandals where athletes were arrested for betting on sports events and fantasy sports. For example, in 1997 two basketball players from Arizona state, Stevin Smith and Isaac Burton, pleaded guilty to point shaving on four home games. These two players intentional missed shots and cut points in games for money. They made almost up to $100,000 from point shaving. Ultimately, money made them lose sight of the purpose of playing college athletics which is for enjoyment. Instead of playing for another two years, Stevin Smith and Isaac Burton served a year in prison. If athletes are paid, more athletes will face the same fate as Stevin Smith and Isaac Burton because they will be able to bet without the consequence of the NCAA rule. Although the rule will not longer be in place, betting on sports is illegal in every state except Nevada, Delaware, Oregon, and Montana. Therefore, the NCAA would face repercussions because more athletes will be arrested on gambling charges. In turn, this will jeopardize the integrity of the intercollegiate sports. Instead of being seen as respectable and admirable athletes, intercollegiate sports will be seen as full of money hungry athletes. • 13. Mlab Concert Review On November 18, 2015, I attended a UAB concert involving jazz combos and a guitar ensemble. This concert was filled with amazing musicians, intricate solos, and thick harmonies. There were three jazz combos and one guitar ensemble; the first set was the guitar ensemble, which contained four guitarists and one bass player. The ensemble consisted of four songs: Swing It, a swing style song; Samba #1 ; A Child is Born, a waltz; and Bill s Bay. The main theme of Bill s Bay was very catchy and memorable, and the ensemble s most impressive player to me was Michael Galanti on the bass guitar. His solos involved precise pizzicato and quick movement that I have never witnessed in a bass player. Next, the series of jazzcombos began, and a younger group of UAB students started to play. Their first song was The Preacher by Horace Silver, and this song was the only song with lyrics. The singer was nearly impossible to hear because she was singing in piano while the other group members were playing in fortissimo. Also, I was startled by how loud the brass instruments sounded in the concert hall; however, this is due to the trumpetbeing a haut instrument. Then, another combo began playing, and this combo was under the guidance of Carlos Pino. The group brought more energy and more skill, and this is shown... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 14. The Alternative Source Of Energy Alternative Source of Energy Over the past years, scientist began thinking deeper into the possibilities for energy that is renewable. They mostly looked into the sun as there number one source, the wind and other renewable options. Indeed, the sun for many years has provided heat for the earth whereby the energy it produces warms the earth directly and also indirectly. By so doing the heat makes water to evaporate lakes and other water sources like rivers and streams that eventually falls back to the earth and then filters into the ground. Overview of Geothermal Energy When we go deep into the history of geothermal energy or rather archeologically, it is clear the first human use of this discovery was in the North America and this was sometime around 10,000 years ago with the settlement of the Paleo Indians near hot springs that served as a source of warmth and healing purposes. In 1904, Italian scientist, Piero Ginori, the Co Prince Piero Ginori Continti, established the first geothermal electric power plant in which power was generated by the use of steam. Ginori is actually the person who is known for the discovery of geothermal energy, (Armstead, H. C. H. 2008). The three main types of power plant designs, which use geothermal as the source of energy, are, flash steam, dry steam, and binary cycle power stations. • 16. The Medical And Dental Industry For 3d Printing 3D Printing is a unique kind of printing system, which takes a 3D image file and creates a physical 3D image. As I mentioned before 3D files are generated from what is called a .stl file, which is a compressed triangular meshed surface. These .stl files were originally intended for a rapid prototyping process called Stereolithography, and in the beginning were generated by CAD programs; however, because MRI and CT s are surface scans, they too can generate a .stl file. These .stl files have become a world standard for exchanging 3D mesh type objects between programs (McNeel, Sep. 2015, par. 3). Since MRI s and CT s can be scanned and converted into stl files it has paved the way into many different aspects of the medical and dental industry for 3D printing. When I say the medical and dental industry I am talking about many different avenues within those industries. Let us first take a look at the dental industry and the latest developments and how they will impact our lives. Have you ever considered braces for fixing yours or your loved ones teeth? Remember what looked like metal tracks in someone s mouth to correct their teeth? Well, now they are using a plastic form called invisalign instead of metal. Pennycook et al. examined the mechanisms behind bullshit reception and created valid measures of bullshit receptivity. The goal of the study was to see if there were consistent and significant differences in the ability to detect pseudo profound bullshit. Pennycook et al. (2015) state bullshit is something that implies, but does not contain adequate meaning or truth (p.549). They suggest that there is a spectrum of bullshit, and that pseudo profound bullshit is an extreme point (p.550) on this spectrum; it is described as vague and ambiguous.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deepak Chopra s tweets were used as bullshit statements throughout the studies, and it was found that knowledge of who he is and his tweets are not a confounding factor. Participants were asked to state the profundity of statements provided to them, and would then answer tests on verbal intelligence, heuristics, religious beliefs, cognitive reflections, ontological beliefs, paranormal beliefs, numeracy, and analytical cognition (tests vary between studies). In studies 1 and 2, Pennycook et al. (2015) found that participants often failed to detect bullshit statements and found correlations with related variables, but were unable to tell what the associations were driven by. In study 3 they found that response bias plays a role in receptivity of bullshit and may explain its association with analytic thinking. Study 4 results support the idea that the difference between profundity ratings for pseudo profound bullshit and motivational quotes can be used to measure bullshit sensitivity (p.552 558). When the results of all four studies are looked at as a whole, Pennycook et al. (2015) prove that when vague, meaningless statements are rated as significant, it is can be considered a psychological phenomenon that is related to variables of theoretical interest (p.559). He and his best pal, Finny, are both being forced to mature and grow up before being drafted to fight, but before that even happens Gene s jealousy gets the best of him which will threaten his friendship. Another way Knowles uses paradoxes in his story is when Phineas tells Gene he s sorry for pulling him away from school and that Gene is his best pal (John Knowles 41). He hesitated and then added, which is what you are, and there was silence on his dune. (Knowles 41). No this is not a statement paradox, but it is a paradox because throughout the entire novel Gene believes Finny is his best pal, yet when Finny tells Gene, Gene becomes flabbergasted and cannot believe so and after Finny s statement he thinks to himself I should have told him then that he was my best friend also and rounded off what he had said. I started to; I nearly did. But something held me back. Perhaps I was stopped by that level of feeling, deeper than thought, which contains the truth, (Knowles 41). The organizational structures of political and economic systems cause and sustain the sort of hierarchical relations that enable dramatic differences between and across sectors of societies. Within these hierarchies, the people at the top have privilege, wealth, and power, while those at the bottom of the hierarchy are dominated, oppressed, and exploited (Christie, 1997). People are harmed and killed as a result of structural violence but, unlike direct violence, it occurs more slowly. The harm or death of oppressed people may come about because some people are deprived of food, shelter, healthcare, and other resources (Christie, 1997). Because structural violence is embedded in a society s way of being, over the long term, groups of people may not be able to meet their basic needs to the degree that normal development and growth is impacted. In the 1960s, Johan Galtung posited the construct of violence as a phenomenon generated by the existence of social barriers that deny needs satisfaction in certain sectors of society. Galtung s conceptual framework illustrates the relationship between the structure of society and the inequalities experienced by its citizens. Gilman s seminal definition of structural violence reads, physical and psychological harm that results from exploitive and unjust social, political, and economic systems (1983, p. 8). ... It is unknown. Facts about the cases show that George Zimmerman s murder trial could have been pressured by the public, assumedly because he killed a black man, Trayvon Martin. Witnesses accounts and evidence from 911 calls support Zimmerman s claim that he shot Trayvon out of self defense. Autopsy reports also indicated that Trayvon was shot at a very close range. Witness accounts report that Trayvon was on top of Zimmerman, beating him up. It was later reported that he had a broken nose and cuts on the back of his head (CNN Library (b), 2016). The Costs And Costs Of The Cost Of Building New Orleans Next, it is necessary to identify the land that is possibly flooded and this can be calculated as: 0.50 x 0.63 = 0.315 or 31.5% of the land is flooded. Hence the probability that the area is flooded is 0.315 or 31.5%. Assuming the probabilities, rebuilding the city together with the levees will amount to $1.818 trillion in 100 years. Rebuilding the levees as of 2010 was $14 million; however, there is an additional cost of the residual risk of Katrina. This residual risk can be calculated as: $14 / 0.6223 = $22.5 billion. In addition, some of the New Orleans residents might decide to rebuild their homes and businesses themselves instead of waiting for the federal government. While considering rebuilding New Orleans, a good question to ask is what the government would do with the money that it plans to use to rebuild the city if it was diverted to other projects. The best thing to do would be to build another city elsewhere or settling the people and businesses affected away from the city. Another option would be to give a cash settlement to every individual, family or business that suffered a loss and allow them to choose to rebuild in New Orleans or elsewhere. Suppose the federal government would spend $1.818 trillion to rebuild the city but instead gives a cash settlement to the city dwellers who are about $1.3 million people, each resident would get about $1.39 million that is more than enough to pay for a new home and business in a different town. One pitfall for the federal government to rebuild the city is that spending that huge amount of money might not make sense if the residents do not want to stay. This would imply that the new city would become obsolete despite the billions spent to rebuild. To avert this risk, the government will need to assess whether the people want to stay and whether New Orleans needs a big city (Glaeser, 2005). • 37. Valdivia Earthquate Analysis When a major disaster hits, commonly the priority is saving lives, allocate communities in a safer zone, repair and rebuild the affected areas with the goal to restore the normal life. These changes should facilitate a reconstruction of a community with a stronger natural and social resilience. The integration of these factors can be appreciated in Valdivia, Chile which is closely related with RiГ±ihue Lake as a natural and social resilient system. These physical changes challenged the community to make a quick adaptation and some major remediation to avoid post disaster damages. As example, we will analyze the RiГ±ihue Lake, located 60 miles to the east from Valdivia. Before the earthquake, the RiГ±ihue Lake used the San Pedro River to discharge the water which flowed to the Pacific Ocean. However, the earthquake collapsed the river, implying a steady increase in the water level of the lake. This effect threatened the population of the zone and the city of Valdivia, transforming this sequential effect in an imminent disaster which enforced the community to take a protagonist role. The national government, private sector and international agencies worked together to rebuild the San Pedro river. After 2 months of work the river was restored and with a significant increased flow capacity, which arose from 400 m3/sec to 7,000 m3/sec. This common effort strengthens the community and created a major physical change in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The three legged race is a fun, simple game that needs to have teamwork in order to be successful. The materials you will need are scarfs or fabric strips and two ropes. The scarfs or fabric strips must be long enough for you to be able to tie the player s legs together. Divide each player into pairs of two, matching players of similar height and build. Have each player stand beside each other and wrap their arms around each other s waist. Than, tie the players inside legs together (the person on the left s right leg and the person on the right s left leg). After you have successfully tied the players legs together, use the rope to mark the starting line and the finish line. Have all the pairs of players line up at the starting line, on your mark have all players walk as quickly as they can to the finish line. The winners will be the pair that can cross the finish line first. This builds teamwork because you need productive communication with your partner to be able to predict their move. The reason is because as people tend to be selfish, arrogant, and try to be over others at any cost. This world is divided in sections due to believes and color, what if the world no longer was like that? Could this be the solution to everything if humanity would look beyond skin and location and more on how to help out? Even though Hispanics were viewed more highly than Blacks they were still treated poorly. They worked for barely any pay for hours and their kids went to separate schools. After many court cases such as the Delgado case Hispanic children were allowed to go to white schools, Cesar Chaves in the other hand was able to increase wages for many field workers. Just like the African Americans, Hispanics are bran new to the idea of education, thus many families still have their children working at such an early age. The Hispanic culture is a rich culture, Hispanic families are close Knit and the most important social unit (Hispanic culture). For this very reason Hispanics have a sense of obligation to provide material and emotional support to members of nuclear and external family (Hispanic Culture). How does this affect GPA you might wonder? Well because of this feeling of obligation most younglings tend to work or else they are considered lazy or unproductive. Working during schoolresults in difficulty for getting school assignments done which make a student look bad, in some cases students are forced to drop out to help the family out economically. This might seem harmless to many, but the reality is this happens quite often, and sadly these young men/women will have a family of their own and due to low education levels most will not have a stable fanatical life, thus resulting in a constant cycle of low education levels between the Hispanic cultures. This is almost becoming a norm to where students don t even try because they know that they will be forced to do what their family does for a living to support fanatically stability. Even though this is not true for every Hispanic, the reality is that this is a very real life event that happens so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Sexual Offenders Is The Most Vilified Type Of Offenders... Sexual offenders are the most vilified type of offenders within public opinion and the criminal justice system. The American precedent cases of Jacob Wetterling, Pam Lyncher, Megan Kanka, and other notorious crimes perpetrated by sexual offenders with a prior history of conviction have demanded a response from the criminal justice system to increase public safety. In 1994, the Jacob Wetterling Crimes against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Program was passed (Scholle, 2000), the first piece of legislation to advocate for the development of state maintained registries of convicted sexual offenders. The legislation has been amended numerous times since then; in its present state, the law requires all states to maintain a registry, the mandatory registration of convicted sex offenders after release, community notification laws in place, and public access to the registry (Burchfield and Mingus, 2012; Lees and Tewksbury, 2006; Petrunik, Murphy, and Fedoroff, 2008; Scholle, 2000; Tewksbury and Lees, 2006; Wagner, 2011). Sex offender registry laws were intended to increase public safety and to reduce the reoffending rates of sexual offenders. However, this paper will argue that registration has no effect on recidivism rates and that the law actually negatively impacts rehabilitative goals because of the unforeseen issues stemming from registration. An analysis of the existing body of literature concerning registration from the United States will address the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. My Papa s Waltz Literary Devices The poem My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, introduces a child romping and waltzing around with his father. Within the poem, the author emphasizes most on admiration and combines mainly imagery and symbols to show the bond between the son and the father. In addition, a mixture of diction and tone is used to further describe the points within the poem and characterization of the father. Even though the narrator tells the reader about the negative events throughout the poem, the son keeps waltzing with his father and clings on to him towards the end as his father waltzes him to sleep. Throughout the poem, the speaker uses first person to refer to himself as the son and refers the father as the second person. In the first stanza, the author uses imagery to introduce his father into the poem. The narrator mentions that his father is so drunken, his breath could make a small boy dizzy (lines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While waltzing around, the speaker uses a hyperbole in lines 13 14 you beat time on my head, with hands caked hard by dirt, which indicates more good than bad because the father is keeping time on the son s head. These lines give a positive tone because it shows that the son was having tons of fun and mentions in lines 15 16 that he clings on to his father shirt as the father waltzed him to bed. From the diction of the poem, this is a memory from the son of the father because he uses a more advanced vocabulary, such as waltzed and countenance. In addition, the tense of the poem supports the idea of the poem being a memory from the son. The identified symbol of this poem is waltzing, because it represents the relationship between son and the father. In the beginning of the poem such waltzing was not easy for the son but throughout the duration of the poem, the son continues which shows his admiration and respect for his ... • 45. Volcano s A Volcano Eruption By Cliff Montgomery Volcano How to Survive Them. When it comes to surviving, people will take whatever means are necessary to live just a little bit longer. An example of this could be a point in the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat sinking, Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. As a result, she was one of the few people to actually be alive and rescued when the boats came back. When it comes to survival, at that moment in time there is no rule book on what measure one can take to survive but a person should know the basics. Volcanoes are a good example of this.
