Animal Testing Beneficial
The use of animals for developing new cosmetics and for educational purposes, known as animal
testing, has been going on for years. In the medical field, there is a need for testing on animals of
various different things. Most importantly, over 26 million animals each year is used for medical
purposes: biomedical research and clinical research. Whereas in often areas animal testing is cruel and
unnecessary.
In order for the scientists to know how diseases progress in humans, they need to study the mechanism
of a body. A form of testing that is used in the medical field is biomedical research. Biomedical
research is the broad area of science that involves the investigation of the biological process and the
causes of disease through careful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

massive waste and mismanagement of taxpayers dollars (Terrance). Governments don t fund for the

the money used for animal testing, many other alternatives are created.
In conclusion, since 304 BC animals have benefited humans in various ways such as from discovering
medicines or by discovering how the diseases progress on humans. Although a lot of medicines used

William Blake Syntax
Through diction, figurative language and imagery, and syntax, William Blake conveys an intense and
curious tone, revealing the doubt of whether or not human power was given by a higher being. The
author, William Blake, uses connotation to make his audience understand what the true subject of the
poem that he refers to is. For example, the word, tyger, in this poem is not specifying an actual tiger,
but is used to represent humans. When Blake says, thy fearful symmetry, he is giving the tyger the
characteristics of strength and power. Humans, as well, are strong and have the potential to create a
big impact on the world, just as tigers do in the wild. Overall, the main focus of this poem is who the
creator of the tyger is. This is supported with And what shoulder, what art/ Could twist the sinews of
thy heart and On what wings dare he aspire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are questions about the tyger s creator, such as In what distant deeps or skies/ Burnt the fire of
thine eyes and Did he who made the Lamb make thee, in every stanza. This represents the
philosophical thinking that goes into questioning topics of religion. Moreover, the constant use of
question marks also adds the effect of curiosity in a more visual way. There is one exclamation point
used in this poem in the line, Dare its deadly terrors grasp! This shows the realization of the
frightening amount of power every human has, further supporting the intense

The Importance Of Deaf Culture
It is quite a task to identify oneself within a culture due to the unique social, behavioral, and physical
traits each culture represents themselves with. As I began learning about the hallmarks of Deaf culture
such as language, heritage art and history , I began wondering about how the historical significance of
each one impacted the modern choices of Deaf individuals (Holcomb 17). Our textbook Introduction
to American Deaf Culture makes references to how important American Sign Language is to define
the Deaf community which leaves me wondering how strong the foundation of Deaf culture would be
if based on heritage rather than on language. Being Jewish I never learned Hebrew but knew all the
prayers, values, and traditions to feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Language never played in a role in how people viewed me as a Jewish youth nor did people believe I
was not culturally experienced because I could not hold a conversation in a certain language. The
Jewish people went through oppression both in the stories I grew up learning as well as historical
events like the Holocaust which emotionally changed the lives of the Jewish population to this day
and for years to come. The point of my experience as a Jewish individual is to lay the idea of how I
grew up feeling appreciated by my population without a language and how the community I grew up
with experienced oppression much as the Deaf community faced and show how the events we endured
made our culture stronger in the long run. I believe that much like the Jewish people, Deaf people
show the same pride in their community because of the oppression they faced and how the pride they
feel is attributed more to their history than to language.
When thinking about the historical impact against the Deaf community, the primary instance that
arises in my head is the oralist movement which was supported by hearing people like Alexander
Graham Bell. Many people opposed the idea of Deaf Culture and wanted to move Deaf children away
from traditional ASL by teaching lip reading and speech to children instead of allowing them to use
ASL in schools. While many could argue that this example proves

The Mass Of Mass Communication Essay
Modern life has become accustomed to the use and influence of mass communication. The telegraph,
gramophone, radio transmission, and moving images such as television are some of the earliest forms
of mass communication that became entangled with various capitalist government regulations and an
interpersonal mass audience. In the 1980 s a second media revolution began to emerge with the
technological advancements of digital convergence which is the ability to access a range of
multimedia content across a number media platforms with a number of devices. This essay will
discuss whether due to these advancements, is it time the idea of mass communication needs to be re
evaluated, and with the increasing using of multifunctional communication tools, whether or not the
mass communication era has ended.
Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the method to
the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the people or size of
the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word, communication and think of
mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the idea of exchange (Chafee
Metzger, 2001, pp. 355 356). Until recently, mass communication was the idea of connecting with a
large audience and a vast demographic, however that no longer applies due to the arrival of media
channels. The number of radio and television channels has dramatically risen along with the

Summary Of Cassia In Matched
In the book Matched by Ally Condie the main character Cassia changes drastically throughout the
novel. In the beginning of the novel Cassia has been just like everyone else and blindly following the
rules of the society. When she gets matched with her best friend she is so excited, but when she sees
another person on her microcard she slowly starts to see all the flaws of the society and what is wrong
with what they are teaching her. Cassia changes significantly and observably from the beginning of
the novel to the end. Before Cassia gets matched with Xander, she thought everything in her society
was perfect and that they always had everything under control. She always thought she was safe and
laughed at the idea of violence. When the cottonwood trees are being cut down and the cotton seeds
fly everywhere, everyone gets worried thinking it was snowing in June. When a man tells them that
they are tearing down the trees they all relax realizing that there was nothing going wrong in their
society once again. As Cassia thinks about the logic behind what the man said she too is relieved and
she says, ...thank goodness the Society has things under control as usual (Condie 28). This shows that
she thinks that the society is always right and they always know what is going on. Since she thinks she
is so safe with the society she learns to just blindly follow what they tell her to say or do and not think
or have any free will of her own, but someone can only be controlled for

under the kingdom of Animalia, which is classified under the eukaryotic domain. 2. Reproduction a.
Manatees reproduce sexually, but manatees only breed once every few years, and manatees only gives
birth to one new offspring at a time1. b. Manatees give birth through live birth and after live birth, the
mother usually will help her calf breath before the calf learns to swim and in only a short time, they
can swim on their own. 3. Metabolism a. Manatees are heterotrophic, so they have to find other

Homeostasis a. Manatees can maintain homeostasis in three ways. They can use their body fat for
insulation in cold waters to keep their body temperature above 68 degrees until they get to warmer
waters. They can control the salt levels with the blood and if it gets too high, they can bring it down to
more approved levels when they sort the blood out and finally they can use their lungs to help them
adjust to a difference in pressure. 5. Heredity a. There is proof that the manatees were around for
about 60 million years and that they were related to the elephant. It was also learned that they were
land animals and that over time they learned to survive in the water . 6. Responsiveness a.

Negative Consequences Of Fighting In Hockey
It s All Fun and Games When Someone Gets Hurt
Since the beginning of hockey, fans have gone crazy for the entertainment fights bring to the games.
The punches thrown, blood drawn and players knocked out certainly excites the crowd and are part of
the culture of the game. In fact, it is so widely accepted, that teams specifically hire big guys to be
enforcers that protect the rest of the team and throw the punches no one else cares to. Despite its
duration in the league, do these fights have negative consequences as well? Lately, there has been
great controversy over whether or not to continue to allow fighting in the league. The N.H.L. hasn t
declared any rule against fighting, but rather, has created a set of rules to outline the penalties and
define the responsibilities of fights (National Hockey League: Official Rules 2014 2015). What the
N.H.L. lacks, however, is a statement with evidence to support why they have chosen to allow
fighting. With the current uproar, the League should consider the unfortunate facts and reassess their
decision. The official rules, specifically rule 46, cover everything ... Show more content on

Still, should fighting in hockey be banned? Unfortunately, in order to bring a halt to many of the
issues that strike controversy today (e.g. concussions, depression, anxiety, morality) it seems that an
ultimatum against fighting in hockey is needed. Truly, these issues need to be taken into consideration;
they are too prevalent not to. While the N.H.L. has written extensive rules to keep fights in control
when they do occur, the League has yet to explain any benefits from facilitating the fighting at all. So
whether the league decides to allow fighting or not, the decision should be made and should be made
with caution and appropriate evaluation of evidence. Clearly, the evidence for banning fights is
pervasive; thus, if the League desired that fighting remain in

The Black Cat Meaning
Darkness lives within each of us. It lurks inside the deep, obscure abyss of our hearts. To escape the
judgment and belittlement of others, we conceal our true inner selves in which the iniquity hides. As
the storyteller states in The Black Cat , initially, he buried his mental monster underneath kindness and
humanity. In fact, the narrator declares, From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of
my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my
companions (Baym and Levine 718). However, through the instrumentality of the Fiend
Intemperance, also known as alcohol, he took on his naked being (719). He stripped himself of

However, this does not last long. In another burst of pure rage, the murderer attempts to strike the cat,
but his wife stops him, and his loyalty shifts as quickly as a flash of lightning. He withdrew [his] arm
from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain (723). Frankly, the narrator s wife seemed as if she was
most likely frail and withdrawn. Therefore, it was not as if she had the ability or inclination to attack
her husband in any way, so the narrator s immediate reaction was in no way self defense. In other
words, he had no reason to accidentally kill his innocent wife. Moreover, after the completion of the
deed, he did not immediately run to the police, yelling, I killed my wife! I killed my wife! He actually
deposited the body against the inner wall of a cellar (723)! Yet, in order to possess intent, one must
have a motive. Well, what exactly was the author s motive? Perhaps, his motive lay in the fact that he
wanted to be alone with no responsibilities and no morals. Although the passage does not directly state
this notion, it indicates that his wife stood on the foundation of right and wrong and that she
represented what he no longer had nor wanted morality.
Thus, to rid himself of something he had thrown away a long time ago, the narrator purposely
murdered his wife in The Black Cat . His

Civil Disobedience Negative
Civil disobedience is as American as McDonald s or apple pie. It wasn t that long ago when America
was the only place that a person could peacefully protest the government or its rules without having
any fears of being punished. But at what point does peacefully protesting become both civil
disobedience and a harmful act to society? Civil disobedience negatively impacts society because it
not only breaks laws, but it can also be used as an excuse for violence. Abraham Lincoln once said,
Let every man remember that to violate the law is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the
charter of his own and his children s liberty, (President Abraham Lincoln). When a person breaks the
law, no matter how insignificant it may be, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking closer at the time period and situation of the civil rights movement reveals that civil
disobedience is in fact negative to present day society. The Civil Rights Movements used a
combination of peaceful protests and civil disobedience to attain their goals. There are two reasons
why civil disobedience worked back then: There was no social media and the protesters knew that
they could die even if they protested peacefully. 42 people were killed because of their involvement in
the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 1968. (Southern Poverty Law Center) Nowadays, a protester
knows he or she will not be murdered a few days after the protest because he or she participated in it.
This lack of fear empowers protesters to push further their level of civil disobedience to the point
where it s an unnecessary and violent act that hurts society. Another major difference between then
and now is the use of social media. Before the advent of social media, on any given day an individual
might have had the opportunity to share his or her feelings about an unfolding political event with, at
most, 10 or 15 people. Now with a few strokes of the keyboard or swipes of a mobile phone, people
can make their thoughts known instantly to hundreds or thousands of others. Moreover, the fact that
these thoughts are spread through social networks that individuals have

Summary Of The Windhover By Gerard Manley Hopkins
The Windhover Explication Gerard Manley Hopkins, The Windhover, has been described as one of
the most challenging poems to explicate, so with my limited knowledge I will attempt to do this
correctly and disagree with professors who have studied this poem far longer than I have. The
breaking of the word kingdom between line 1 and 2 is meaningful. The falcon is described as both
morning s minion and king. If the break were after dom there would have been less exaltation of the
falcon, which Hopkins sets up by using the dynamic verb caught, which implies spontaneity, joy, and
delight, instead of a more mundane verb like view or note. The division of the word kingdom also
allows for two simultaneous interpretations of the first two lines. The first interpretation being that the
falcon is the kingdom, and the other being that the falcon is the dauphin of the dom(e) of daylight
(Rudanko 176). For the sequence dapple dawn drawn sequence Rudanko proposes 4 possible ways of
interpretation based on previous literary analysis and his own which are as follows: (1) The falcon is
attracted by the dappled dawn. (2) The falcon is sketched against the dappled dawn. (3) The dappled
falcon is attracted by the dawn. (4) The dappled falcon is sketched in silhouette against the dawn
(Rudanko 176). However, immediately following this sequence the falcon is described as riding
therefore it is not plausible that 2 or 4 are accurate interpretations of the sequence given that the
dappling of the bird would be imperceptible if he were to be silhouetted and that if the dawn is
dappled there would be enough light in the rest of the sky to illuminate the bird enough for it to not
just appear as a silhouette. The only question left to answer is then, is the sky dappled or is the bird?
When the poem is read aloud, as Hopkins intended with his works, the most natural way of hearing it
is that the dawn is dappled. Hopkins has also described the sky as being dappled in other poems such
as Pied Beauty, leading to the conclusion that option 1 is the way in which the sequence should be
read, that the falcon is attracted by the dappled dawn. There is much less ambiguity over the line, Of
the rolling level underneath him steady air,

Prioritizing Hawaii born Homeless before Those from the Mainland
Hawaii is known for its beautiful beaches, tropical climate, and (former) pineapple exports. This state
is also number one in a lot of areas: worst traffic, highest cost of living, and highest homeless
population. These are all important issues that most people outside of the islands do not think about
when imagining a tropical paradise. The homeless population is a critical issue that will be discussed
in this essay. Homelessness is a result of many factors: job loss, family disputes, foreclosure, and even
drug addiction. In Hawaii, the main cause of homelessness is the rising cost of living. As housing

This is their home, yet they do not have a home. Meanwhile others from out of state are flown down
here because it is easier to live in. Being homeless in your own home state is tough. Many possible
solutions to solve homelessness in Hawaii exist, but it is important to give priority to the local born
homeless population before helping the ones that arrived here from out of state. Having a large
homeless population affects everything about Hawaii the economy, the government, the environment,
and the people. These things stack up on each other which creates a snowball effect. Local residents
may complain to the government to do something about the homeless issue. The government decides
to create laws limiting where the homeless may stay. The homeless move to other places, such as
popular tourist beaches. The tourists are turned off by the growing homeless population dirtying the
beaches, which in turn causes a decrease in tourism. The island s economy suffers. Homelessness
affects everything, especially in a small island like Hawaii. The economy takes the biggest toll,
however because Hawaii relies on the tourism industry, it is important to keep visitors happy and
satisfied. It is an eyesore looking at the homeless littering the beaches and streets with tarps and
shopping carts. This drives the tourists away, and without them, our economy declines. The homeless
also affect the environment in which we live. With nowhere to go, they

matters, how to identify Gender regime? how it arose? And, how it is being implemented? Lastly, I
will conclude my essay. Within the last two decades, Women s lives and gender discourse has been
impacted politically, economically, legally, and technologically. Women have been influenced by age,
class, and ethnicity. Gender regimes vary in different societies and cultures. Both India and China
have had many changes within gender. Gender Regime is how things are between Men and Women in
school, work, and family. Gender Regime is a way in which people relate to one another. It looks upon
how often women are recognized. Thereby, a regime may constitute a high level of acceptance by
states. Gender issues have been analyzed as a global concern (Kardam 2002, P.411). Some ways in

For This Film Analysis, I Viewed Two Movies. The Films
For this film analysis, I viewed two movies. The films viewed were Boys Don t Cry and A Soap. The
movies viewed had the common theme of sexuality. The 2 films both had themes regarding sexuality
and trangenderism. With that my thesis is, Sexuality and its affects and reactions in regards to
interpersonal and familial relationships.
To begin we start we the film that was viewed first, Boys Don t Cry. Boys Don t Cry offers an insight
to the impressions of sexuality and transgenderism in the 1990 s. Five minutes into the film it shows
Brandon Teena being chased by a mob of angry guys calling him a dyke (for him having slept with
one of the men s sisters ). That already shows there is hostility towards homosexuality and
transgenders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moving past this film onto the second film, A Soap, we find a more obvious contrast to the
environment set up in Boys Don t Cry. The main thing being there is no outright or violent hostility to
out transgender character. This film featured a male to female pre op transsexual Veronica. She can
basically walk around and talk to her neighbors wearing women s clothing and doesn t get any actual
hostility for it. The other main character Charlotte does occasionally poke fun with witty remarks but
it appears to be more in good fun than any actual disdain. The only time her language toward Veronica
becomes hostile is when she develops conflicting romantic feelings toward her and is drunk. But
essentially all other contact is cordial.
Same goes for familial interaction. The there is more of an air of disapproval in those conversations.
The mother does appear to still accept Veronica as her child for most of the movie. There is no
screaming match or violent undertones in their meeting. You can still tell the mother does have
resignations by still calling Veronica by her male name and by the fact that Veronica does not appear
to be wanted at family holidays like birthdays. Despite this she does still appear to care for her child
by visiting often and bringing gifts. And when she finds Charlotte in Veronica s home she does not
appear to condemn her presence but asks of her to watch over

Hospital Acquired Conditions
Common Hospital Acquired Conditions: Infections Donna Sabet Saddleback College N176 March 3,
2017 Common Hospital Acquired Conditions: Infections Of all the hospital acquired conditions or
never events identified by the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS), infections are possibly
the most frightening to consider. This holds true for lay people as well as medical professionals,
perhaps because of our perception that controlling the risk for infection is more difficult than
controlling non infectious risk for injury conditions that usually result from preventable human error.
Safety awareness and improved education can help on multiple fronts in the fight against most
hospital acquired conditions, but with infections, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As such, we must evaluate our practice on an ongoing basis to ensure that we are consistently
following the best, evidenced based practice guidelines in our interventions. (Makic, Rauen, Watson,
Poteet, 2014) With respect to reducing HAIs, this means following all hospital recommended infection
control practices and utilizing all available resources to maintain the highest possible standards of
infection control. New nurses may want to consider participating on an infection control committee as
a means of keeping current on education and exploring new knowledge. Also, we should acknowledge
and appreciate the help and support of assistive personnel, including often overlooked and
underappreciated custodial staff, upon whom we rely to help keep the hospital environment clean. It
takes the entire team to fight an invisible enemy. As primary patient advocates, nurses must motivate
and inspire the other team members and daily remind ourselves to care for each patient with the kind
of persistence and diligence we would expect from another RN, if we found ourselves on the other

Dante s Journey Through Hell, Purgatory, And Heaven
Around 1314, Dante Alighieri completed the Inferno, the first section of what would make up The
Divine Comedy, a collection of three poems reflecting Dante s imaginative journey through Hell,
Purgatory, and Heaven. In these poems, Dante the poet describes the pilgrimage that Dante the pilgrim
must complete to attain salvation. With the Roman poet Virgil as his guide, Dante the pilgrim must
purge himself of his own sinful nature, which can only be achieved by observing and learning from
those that have landed themselves in either Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven. Described in Inferno, his
excursion begins in Hell where Dante learns about the stories and the sufferings of many sinners. As
Dante the pilgrim progresses through Hell it is clear that he assumes different personas. In some
instances, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as an empathetic man who pities the sinners while on other
occasions, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as a callous and indignant being in regard to the sinners.
While Dante the pilgrim is depicted in these two completely different ways, it is the insensitive
portrayal that more precisely depicts Dante the pilgrim, as that is his true identity when he leaves Hell.
His journey affected him so greatly that by the end of his pilgrimage, Dante the pilgrim has
transformed from a compassionate man into an impervious and even cruel individual.
When Dante enters the second circle of Hell, where the licentious sinners suffer, Dante meets a
woman named Francesca and

Relationship Between Tita And Her Mother
Critically examine the relationship between Tita and her mother and how Tita asserts her authority.
Can Tita be considered a victim or a vanquisher?
In Laura Esquivel s novel Como Agua Para Chocolate Esquivel explores the relationship between a
mother and daughter but presents it in a way that is different from usual mother daughter relationships.
Mama Elena is the chief antagonist in this novel who, instead of loving and caring for her daughter,
tortures the protagonist Tita throughout the novel by prohibiting her from marrying in order to take
care of her until her death. However, Tita does not lose hope as she continuously manages to assert her
authority despite her mother s cruel attempts at separating her from her lover and at the ... Show more

Tita s fear and her dislike towards her mother is also clarified in the film when Tita, as a child, hides
behind Nacha s apron as soon as Mama Elena enters the kitchen. Tita s resistance to Mama Elena s
cruel demands are evident again when even after Mama Elena scolds her and orders her to stay away
from Pedro, she is still happy knowing that Pedro still loves her:
Después de estas amenazantes palabras de Mama Elena, Tita procuró estar lo más alejada de Pedro
que pudo. Lo que le fue imposible fue borrar de su rostro una franca sonrisa de satisfacción. Desde ese
momento la boda tuvo para ella otro significado
Tita s thoughts shows how, despite her fear of Mama Elena, she still attempts to gain her right to
marry and she is secretly happy about Pedro marrying Rosaura just to be near her. Despite Mama
Elena s intentions to break Tita s heart by making her watch the person she loves getting married to
her sister, Tita completely changes the meaning of this wedding to something that makes her love for
Pedro grow stronger. This is also portrayed in the film when Tita s smile remains even after Mama
Elena scolds her. The contrast in Mama Elena and Tita s behaviour is conveyed when Tita thinks about
what it would be like to have her mother s strength:
En ese momento pensó en lo bueno que sería tener la fuerza de Mamá Elena. Ella mataba así, de tajo,
sin piedad. Bueno, aunque pensándolo bien, no.

Kindergarten students have been working on several projects to guide their study of colors and many
master artists. In their first project, student s blended colors from the warm and cool color groups to
design a background for their Andy Warhol inspired handprint compositions. Throughout the unit

Operations of Airlines
The world commercial airline industry is one of the most diverse, dynamic and perplexing in the
world (Globale Airline Industry Program). The airports are exceptionally complex facilities and highly

Airlines and airports are inextricably intertwined together and none of them can survive without the

Introduction of decentralised airports reduced walking distance from one terminal to another. Even to
a point where passengers who opted to fly in one individual carrier didn t have to walk miles and

five terminals each offer their own parking areas and a short distance walk from the car park to the

fare prices have risen and declined. Carriers adopted strategic approaches to out compete with other
airlines by introducing low cost carriers as well as maintaining their full service carriers. Not only
airlines opted new strategies in making profit airports as well started to increase their revenues by
charging aircraft parking fees, landing fees, air traffic charges, handling services and fuel taxes to the

The Prevalence Of Parkinson s Disease
Individuals worldwide are affected by Parkinson s disease. Parkinson s is a chronic disorder with
onset of symptoms occurring at a mean age of 60 years. The prevalence of Parkinson s increases with
age and may affect up to 5% of individuals over 79 years old. (Tosin, Campos, Andrade, Oliveira,
Santana, 2015). Those affected by the disease, experience impairments in movement, balance, and
have difficulty performing everyday life tasks. Due to posture deficits and gait dysfunction, patients
with Parkinson s have an increased risk of falling which may lead to secondary health problems.
Although exercise programs have been implemented to decrease falls, few programs are proven
successful. (Li, Harmer, Fitzgerald, Eckstrom, Stock, Galver, Maddalozzo, Batya, 2012). In order to
find an effective program in decreasing falls, nurses are performing various rehabilitation
interventions that focus on improving postural stability. Two examples of interventions include Qi
Gong and Tai Chi. Qi Gong is a mindful exercise that effects neuroplasticity in the brain and can have
an effect on the postural instability that Parkinson s patients experience (Loftus, 2014). Tai Chi is a
balance based exercise that may have an effect on muscle strength and stability for those living with
Parkinson s (Li, et al., 2012). Qi Gong and Tai Chi are two rehabilitation interventions that nurses are
implementing to prove whether or not complementary exercise programs improve posture enough to

Yeats on Change and Stability, and How They...
The world is a place that is ever changing, yet somehow it always stays the same. There is a saying,
the more things change, the more they stay the same. Another goes like this: history has a way of
repeating itself. So does that mean that people can t learn from the mistakes of the past? Certainly not.
There are brilliant minds in this world that can visualize in what ways events have gone wrong in
history. They are able to learn the faults and strengths of other, older civilizations, and build on those.
Unfortunately, these minds are few and far between, and the rest of us are left to fend for ourselves.
There comes a time in every country/civilization s existence that a bad leader takes the reins and
things go south in a hurry. This is when declension of state is put into effect, as Plato would have it.
This rise and fall of civilization is something William Butler Yeats was very familiar with. His love of
history and the sciences were combined with a philosophy all his own. His philosophy was that in all
of the fields of history, art, personality, and society, there are conflicting forces at work: change and
stability. In each society, these two forces are at work, and that can sometimes make things chaotic in
the lives of the people in the society. These forces don t even have to be a part of society; stability and
change can be a part of everyday life. Five poems of Yeats that portray the change in the world, and
the stability too, are When You Are Old, The Lake Isle

noise, before my mom yells at me and gives me a job to do. After picking out a movie that I haven t

the movie my mother comes down and tells me to walk down and water the sheep and a neighbors

Maya Angelou One Today Analysis
Throughout the 20th and (rising of) the 21st centuries, African American people have been dealt with
many social, political and economic challenges. Most people have the common knowledge that
equality did not exist during the upbringing of our country. African Americans were slaves to many
and had no rights as a U.S. citizen. This has changed over the course of many years and civil rights
leaders fighting for freedom, however it took persistence, determination and strength to get to where
we are today. I know of the adversity and struggles that were faced by African Americans from

  • 4. William Blake Syntax Through diction, figurative language and imagery, and syntax, William Blake conveys an intense and curious tone, revealing the doubt of whether or not human power was given by a higher being. The author, William Blake, uses connotation to make his audience understand what the true subject of the poem that he refers to is. For example, the word, tyger, in this poem is not specifying an actual tiger, but is used to represent humans. When Blake says, thy fearful symmetry, he is giving the tyger the characteristics of strength and power. Humans, as well, are strong and have the potential to create a big impact on the world, just as tigers do in the wild. Overall, the main focus of this poem is who the creator of the tyger is. This is supported with And what shoulder, what art/ Could twist the sinews of thy heart and On what wings dare he aspire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are questions about the tyger s creator, such as In what distant deeps or skies/ Burnt the fire of thine eyes and Did he who made the Lamb make thee, in every stanza. This represents the philosophical thinking that goes into questioning topics of religion. Moreover, the constant use of question marks also adds the effect of curiosity in a more visual way. There is one exclamation point used in this poem in the line, Dare its deadly terrors grasp! This shows the realization of the frightening amount of power every human has, further supporting the intense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Importance Of Deaf Culture It is quite a task to identify oneself within a culture due to the unique social, behavioral, and physical traits each culture represents themselves with. As I began learning about the hallmarks of Deaf culture such as language, heritage art and history , I began wondering about how the historical significance of each one impacted the modern choices of Deaf individuals (Holcomb 17). Our textbook Introduction to American Deaf Culture makes references to how important American Sign Language is to define the Deaf community which leaves me wondering how strong the foundation of Deaf culture would be if based on heritage rather than on language. Being Jewish I never learned Hebrew but knew all the prayers, values, and traditions to feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Language never played in a role in how people viewed me as a Jewish youth nor did people believe I was not culturally experienced because I could not hold a conversation in a certain language. The Jewish people went through oppression both in the stories I grew up learning as well as historical events like the Holocaust which emotionally changed the lives of the Jewish population to this day and for years to come. The point of my experience as a Jewish individual is to lay the idea of how I grew up feeling appreciated by my population without a language and how the community I grew up with experienced oppression much as the Deaf community faced and show how the events we endured made our culture stronger in the long run. I believe that much like the Jewish people, Deaf people show the same pride in their community because of the oppression they faced and how the pride they feel is attributed more to their history than to language. When thinking about the historical impact against the Deaf community, the primary instance that arises in my head is the oralist movement which was supported by hearing people like Alexander Graham Bell. Many people opposed the idea of Deaf Culture and wanted to move Deaf children away from traditional ASL by teaching lip reading and speech to children instead of allowing them to use ASL in schools. While many could argue that this example proves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Mass Of Mass Communication Essay Modern life has become accustomed to the use and influence of mass communication. The telegraph, gramophone, radio transmission, and moving images such as television are some of the earliest forms of mass communication that became entangled with various capitalist government regulations and an interpersonal mass audience. In the 1980 s a second media revolution began to emerge with the technological advancements of digital convergence which is the ability to access a range of multimedia content across a number media platforms with a number of devices. This essay will discuss whether due to these advancements, is it time the idea of mass communication needs to be re evaluated, and with the increasing using of multifunctional communication tools, whether or not the mass communication era has ended. Mass communication may be interpreted differently to a number of people. Many relate the method to the shear number of people engaging in the type of communication, the mass of the people or size of the audience. However others may focus of the second part of the word, communication and think of mass communication in the traditional sense that it was based of the idea of exchange (Chafee Metzger, 2001, pp. 355 356). Until recently, mass communication was the idea of connecting with a large audience and a vast demographic, however that no longer applies due to the arrival of media channels. The number of radio and television channels has dramatically risen along with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Summary Of Cassia In Matched In the book Matched by Ally Condie the main character Cassia changes drastically throughout the novel. In the beginning of the novel Cassia has been just like everyone else and blindly following the rules of the society. When she gets matched with her best friend she is so excited, but when she sees another person on her microcard she slowly starts to see all the flaws of the society and what is wrong with what they are teaching her. Cassia changes significantly and observably from the beginning of the novel to the end. Before Cassia gets matched with Xander, she thought everything in her society was perfect and that they always had everything under control. She always thought she was safe and laughed at the idea of violence. When the cottonwood trees are being cut down and the cotton seeds fly everywhere, everyone gets worried thinking it was snowing in June. When a man tells them that they are tearing down the trees they all relax realizing that there was nothing going wrong in their society once again. As Cassia thinks about the logic behind what the man said she too is relieved and she says, ...thank goodness the Society has things under control as usual (Condie 28). This shows that she thinks that the society is always right and they always know what is going on. Since she thinks she is so safe with the society she learns to just blindly follow what they tell her to say or do and not think or have any free will of her own, but someone can only be controlled for ... • 10. Negative Consequences Of Fighting In Hockey It s All Fun and Games When Someone Gets Hurt Since the beginning of hockey, fans have gone crazy for the entertainment fights bring to the games. The punches thrown, blood drawn and players knocked out certainly excites the crowd and are part of the culture of the game. In fact, it is so widely accepted, that teams specifically hire big guys to be enforcers that protect the rest of the team and throw the punches no one else cares to. Despite its duration in the league, do these fights have negative consequences as well? Lately, there has been great controversy over whether or not to continue to allow fighting in the league. The N.H.L. hasn t declared any rule against fighting, but rather, has created a set of rules to outline the penalties and define the responsibilities of fights (National Hockey League: Official Rules 2014 2015). What the N.H.L. lacks, however, is a statement with evidence to support why they have chosen to allow fighting. With the current uproar, the League should consider the unfortunate facts and reassess their decision. The official rules, specifically rule 46, cover everything ... Unfortunately, in order to bring a halt to many of the issues that strike controversy today (e.g. concussions, depression, anxiety, morality) it seems that an ultimatum against fighting in hockey is needed. Truly, these issues need to be taken into consideration; they are too prevalent not to. While the N.H.L. has written extensive rules to keep fights in control when they do occur, the League has yet to explain any benefits from facilitating the fighting at all. So whether the league decides to allow fighting or not, the decision should be made and should be made with caution and appropriate evaluation of evidence. Clearly, the evidence for banning fights is pervasive; thus, if the League desired that fighting remain in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To escape the judgment and belittlement of others, we conceal our true inner selves in which the iniquity hides. As the storyteller states in The Black Cat , initially, he buried his mental monster underneath kindness and humanity. In fact, the narrator declares, From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (Baym and Levine 718). In another burst of pure rage, the murderer attempts to strike the cat, but his wife stops him, and his loyalty shifts as quickly as a flash of lightning. He withdrew [his] arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain (723). Frankly, the narrator s wife seemed as if she was most likely frail and withdrawn. Therefore, it was not as if she had the ability or inclination to attack her husband in any way, so the narrator s immediate reaction was in no way self defense. In other words, he had no reason to accidentally kill his innocent wife. Moreover, after the completion of the deed, he did not immediately run to the police, yelling, I killed my wife! I killed my wife! He actually deposited the body against the inner wall of a cellar (723)! Yet, in order to possess intent, one must have a motive. Well, what exactly was the author s motive? Perhaps, his motive lay in the fact that he wanted to be alone with no responsibilities and no morals. Although the passage does not directly state this notion, it indicates that his wife stood on the foundation of right and wrong and that she represented what he no longer had nor wanted morality. Thus, to rid himself of something he had thrown away a long time ago, the narrator purposely murdered his wife in The Black Cat . His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Civil Disobedience Negative Civil disobedience is as American as McDonald s or apple pie. It wasn t that long ago when America was the only place that a person could peacefully protest the government or its rules without having any fears of being punished. But at what point does peacefully protesting become both civil disobedience and a harmful act to society? Civil disobedience negatively impacts society because it not only breaks laws, but it can also be used as an excuse for violence. Abraham Lincoln once said, Let every man remember that to violate the law is to trample on the blood of his father, and to tear the charter of his own and his children s liberty, (President Abraham Lincoln). Looking closer at the time period and situation of the civil rights movement reveals that civil disobedience is in fact negative to present day society. The Civil Rights Movements used a combination of peaceful protests and civil disobedience to attain their goals. There are two reasons why civil disobedience worked back then: There was no social media and the protesters knew that they could die even if they protested peacefully. 42 people were killed because of their involvement in the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 1968. (Southern Poverty Law Center) Nowadays, a protester knows he or she will not be murdered a few days after the protest because he or she participated in it. This lack of fear empowers protesters to push further their level of civil disobedience to the point where it s an unnecessary and violent act that hurts society. Another major difference between then and now is the use of social media. Before the advent of social media, on any given day an individual might have had the opportunity to share his or her feelings about an unfolding political event with, at most, 10 or 15 people. Now with a few strokes of the keyboard or swipes of a mobile phone, people can make their thoughts known instantly to hundreds or thousands of others. • 19. Summary Of The Windhover By Gerard Manley Hopkins The Windhover Explication Gerard Manley Hopkins, The Windhover, has been described as one of the most challenging poems to explicate, so with my limited knowledge I will attempt to do this correctly and disagree with professors who have studied this poem far longer than I have. The breaking of the word kingdom between line 1 and 2 is meaningful. The falcon is described as both morning s minion and king. If the break were after dom there would have been less exaltation of the falcon, which Hopkins sets up by using the dynamic verb caught, which implies spontaneity, joy, and delight, instead of a more mundane verb like view or note. The division of the word kingdom also allows for two simultaneous interpretations of the first two lines. The first interpretation being that the falcon is the kingdom, and the other being that the falcon is the dauphin of the dom(e) of daylight (Rudanko 176). For the sequence dapple dawn drawn sequence Rudanko proposes 4 possible ways of interpretation based on previous literary analysis and his own which are as follows: (1) The falcon is attracted by the dappled dawn. (2) The falcon is sketched against the dappled dawn. (3) The dappled falcon is attracted by the dawn. (4) The dappled falcon is sketched in silhouette against the dawn (Rudanko 176). However, immediately following this sequence the falcon is described as riding therefore it is not plausible that 2 or 4 are accurate interpretations of the sequence given that the dappling of the bird would be imperceptible if he were to be silhouetted and that if the dawn is dappled there would be enough light in the rest of the sky to illuminate the bird enough for it to not just appear as a silhouette. The only question left to answer is then, is the sky dappled or is the bird? When the poem is read aloud, as Hopkins intended with his works, the most natural way of hearing it is that the dawn is dappled. Hopkins has also described the sky as being dappled in other poems such as Pied Beauty, leading to the conclusion that option 1 is the way in which the sequence should be read, that the falcon is attracted by the dappled dawn. There is much less ambiguity over the line, Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having a large homeless population affects everything about Hawaii the economy, the government, the environment, and the people. These things stack up on each other which creates a snowball effect. Local residents may complain to the government to do something about the homeless issue. The government decides to create laws limiting where the homeless may stay. • 24. Dante s Journey Through Hell, Purgatory, And Heaven Around 1314, Dante Alighieri completed the Inferno, the first section of what would make up The Divine Comedy, a collection of three poems reflecting Dante s imaginative journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. In these poems, Dante the poet describes the pilgrimage that Dante the pilgrim must complete to attain salvation. With the Roman poet Virgil as his guide, Dante the pilgrim must purge himself of his own sinful nature, which can only be achieved by observing and learning from those that have landed themselves in either Hell, Purgatory, or Heaven. Described in Inferno, his excursion begins in Hell where Dante learns about the stories and the sufferings of many sinners. As Dante the pilgrim progresses through Hell it is clear that he assumes different personas. In some instances, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as an empathetic man who pities the sinners while on other occasions, Dante the pilgrim is portrayed as a callous and indignant being in regard to the sinners. While Dante the pilgrim is depicted in these two completely different ways, it is the insensitive portrayal that more precisely depicts Dante the pilgrim, as that is his true identity when he leaves Hell. His journey affected him so greatly that by the end of his pilgrimage, Dante the pilgrim has transformed from a compassionate man into an impervious and even cruel individual. There is a saying, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Another goes like this: history has a way of repeating itself. So does that mean that people can t learn from the mistakes of the past? Certainly not. There are brilliant minds in this world that can visualize in what ways events have gone wrong in history. They are able to learn the faults and strengths of other, older civilizations, and build on those. Unfortunately, these minds are few and far between, and the rest of us are left to fend for ourselves. There comes a time in every country/civilization s existence that a bad leader takes the reins and things go south in a hurry. This is when declension of state is put into effect, as Plato would have it. This rise and fall of civilization is something William Butler Yeats was very familiar with. His love of history and the sciences were combined with a philosophy all his own. His philosophy was that in all of the fields of history, art, personality, and society, there are conflicting forces at work: change and stability. In each society, these two forces are at work, and that can sometimes make things chaotic in the lives of the people in the society. These forces don t even have to be a part of society; stability and change can be a part of everyday life.
