Essay on The Key to A Successful E-commerce Site
The Key to A Successful E commerce Site
Despite the rapid growth of E commerce sites, 43 percent of the them fails, and the difference between
the success and the failure is consumer experience, according to Ecommercetimes.com. The Dotcom
Survival Guide reported there is still one resource left untapped that can save dotcoms from failure. It
s the one resource that historically is most ignored in favor of ads, press, and flashy features yet it s
the one resource that can lead dotcoms to survival. That resource is customers. Customers can provide
the revenues needed to attain profitability. Customers can give the word of mouth marketing to drive
traffic. Customers can give the feedback needed to continually improve the website. ... Show more

It s important to remember that the customer experience is a strategic issue, and not just an
accumulation of tactics. In fact, it s the most strategic issue an e business can work on. A dot com s
strategy should be directly based on the customer experience.
Improving the customer experience can lead directly to higher revenues. On an e commerce site,
building a great customer experience makes it quicker and easier for customers to buy, raising the
conversion rate. On high volume e commerce sites, raising the conversion rate by one tenth of 1% can
add as much as $10 million in incremental revenues per month. The customer experience is the key to
dot com survival. To survive, dot coms must improve their customer experience.
HOW TO CREATE A GOOD CONSUMER EXPERIENCE?
More and more users with minimal technical expertise are getting online, and they are demanding
simple, fast, easy to use e commerce sites. The Web makes switching (to a competitor) fast, cheap, and
as easy as typing in a new URL.
To better understand the value of a good customer experience, creativegood.com has provide the 3 M

· Medium. The Web is a constrained medium: screens are small, modems are slow, and users are
technically inexperienced. Despite all the hype about futuristic potential online, the true way to
succeeding online is to create good customer experiences that work within the constraints of the Web.

Comparing The American Dream In Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
When you think of a dream you probably think of something that you want or something you strive to
achieve and usually as long as you work hard it is doable. In this case we re talking about the
American Dream. Our class for the past couple weeks has been focusing on this idea to see if it was
really what everyone thought it was. We have talked about books, articles, and songs that give an
outline of the American Dream, also we have been talking about several topics that relate to the
American Dream including American Exceptionalism, Feminism, Marx Criticism and many more.
Two pieces of work that outline this idea are Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck and the song

As a class we read John Winthrop s City Upon a Hill. In this reading Winthrop says For wee must
consider that wee shall be as a city upon a hill. The eyes of all people are upon us (Winthrop). This is a
great example on how we think the rest of the world views us because of the fact that we put ourselves
on a pedestal that is higher than any other country. Our country tries to do things in a big way do other
countries notice us. From 1947 to 1989 the U.S had made great strides that would change our nation.
One of these events was the Cold War, which was fought between the U.S.A and the USSR. The war
led the two nations to start a technology war called the Space Race. This race would begin in 1957
when the USSR put the first artificial satellite to produce signals from space ( The space race), in the
same year they were able to put the first organism in space. Following these events the U.S was finally
able to put their first satellite into space in 1958 but for the next ten years the USSR was able to do
four more missions that consisted of first man made object to reach the moon, first living organism to
return to earth, first craft to orbit earth and first photos of the far side of the moon. Even though the
U.S was falling behind in 1969 they did something that the USSR could not accomplish,

Nero And Roman Architecture
The monumental tragedy of burning ancient Rome, known as the Great Fire of Rome, was noteworthy
in history although, it has crucial details that still confuse us. According to Tacitus, a roman historian,
wrote in The Annals (around year 116) that an urban fire broke out in the merchant area of the city of
Rome on the night between 18 and 19 July in the year 64 AD. The fire widespread devastation
consumed all in its path for six days and seven nights, leaving almost seventy percent of the city in
ruins. Only four of the fourteen districts of Rome were saved from the fire. Three districts were totally
destroyed. The remaining seven were significantly affected. For years, many historians including
Tacitus stated that Nero, the ruler of the time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this was an influential theme during his ruling years. He had this urge to live through art. Nero
did not like the aesthetics of the city. This is the reason why he wanted to build a new city, with new
artistically designed buildings. This was important for him. He consider himself an artistic. When he
was attempting suicide, he grieved for the people s loss even more than his own loss of life. His final
words indicate this when he said, Qualis artifex pereo! or, What an artisan I am in my dying
(Suetonius, Nero 49.1).Evidence showed that the new Rome that Nero built, exhibited the high artistic
goals that characterized his artistic mind. History recalls that his palace was named the Domus Aurea,
meaning that it was almost completely overlaid with gold. He designed a new palace for himself, more
sumptuous and expansive than any Roman structure built before. Another example is a large area,
close to where the fire started, between Portico of Livia to the Circus Maximus, which the emperor
turned into beautiful gardens that included an artificial lake in the center. A temple that was
constructed to deified Claudious, was demolished because it was completed and more importantly in
was in the way of Nero s design plan. Art critics agree that this style revolutioned architecture and was
an inspiration to Leonardo DaVinci and even Michaelangelo. This is clearly supporting the fact that
the Nero s distorted mind schemed a plan to construct all these places. He needed the foundation, he
needed a new Rome, he decided to burn the old

The Issue Of Education And Funding Over Public Education
In today s society, we realize the importance of education and how it will benefit all to have an
adequate education that will give the best opportunities. However, individual states have jurisdictions
over the curriculum and funding over the public education. This means that California students may
have a higher academic standing than Utah. The 14th Amendment and other various versions have
brought upon the issue of equal, free and adequate education Yet, it has been denied several times
because it is not federal jurisdiction and they has no power in this issue. The main reason the
Amendment is being denied because of the definition of what is a citizen. Is someone a citizen

The significant change made in society is the need for all to be educated to further himself in the
labour force. In society of today we realized that the need of education is leading to the benefit of the
country. Many Congressmen, organizations and President Obama have made remarks on the account
of the education being a fundamental right. The humanitarian side of society have seen how children
in third world countries cannot get adequate education. Once upon looking it has become clear that in
U.S. itself does not practice the right. Having this knowledge made it clear that society needs
education. The necessity of the right to education is the labour force is demanding for those to be
educated by the post secondary school system. Enable to enroll in post secondary one must complete
elementary and secondary education to have adequate knowledge to excel in the post secondary.
Regarding the issue upon illegal immigrants who can be considered citizen under the Deferred Action
for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program children who are enrolled in school and have certain
qualifications can be considered as citizens. Lastly, it is evident in everyday life that those who have
wealth in the communities will have greater opportunities compared to who live in poor communities.
Most think it is unfair for those who do not have the financial stability to suffer in the terms of

Native American Beliefs In Native America And Sir Walter...
Long before the first Europeans arrived Native Americans, had their own religions, lifestyles, and
customs. While these cultures were similar in some ways to the civilized nations, they were also very
different. Upon arrival in the New World some people, such as Thomas Hariot, set out to document
these new peoples, and their ways of life and, as was important in those days, their religion. By
informing people in England of the New World, more settlers would be likely to come. If possible
travelers are informed of their destination, there will be less apprehension about going. Thomas Hariot
was one such informer. An Englishman who accompanied Sir Walter Raleigh on his voyage to
establish a colony in the New World, he kept accounts of his explorations and later had them
published in his A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. His book described the
land and people of Virginia as he traveled the country. One of the tribes he wrote about and described
was known as the Algonquin. Hariot described the people of the tribe as being [C]lothed in loose
mantles made of Deere skins and aprons of the same rounde about their middle; all els[e] naked...
allowing his English readers to realize the Algonquin were slightly unprogressive compared to
themselves in terms of clothing. Yet the author does not seem to look down upon the natives for their
rather primitive way of dressing. Mr. Hariot went on to describe their lack of advanced tools and
weapons: those

An Interview With National State Television And Radio Company
Last year, in an interview with National State Television and Radio Company (VGTRK) journalist
Vladimir Solovyov, Vladimir Putin said Crimea has always been and remains Russian, as well as
Ukrainian, Crimean Tatar, Greek (after all, there are Greeks living there) and German and it will be
home to all of those peoples. As for state affiliation, the people living in Crimea made their choice; it
should be treated with respect, and Russia cannot do otherwise. Since 2014, Russia and Ukraine have
battled over the territory of Crimea, an area in eastern Ukraine stocked with large amounts of gas and
oil. Despite Crimea being in Ukrainian territory, Russia has invaded the region and claimed it as their
own. Although, this conflict in Crimea may be rather new, Ukraine and Russia share a deep and
complex history. In order to study the crisis occurring in Crimea, it is important to look at not only the
problem at hand but also the history, motives, perspectives, and solutions. Furthermore, the issue
cannot be put into context without information on international relations as a whole, background
information about each country, and the role of NATO.
To begin we must look at the topic of international relations. What is international relations? Multiple
theories have developed around this topic, but a general statement mentions it as the study of conflict
and cooperation by international two actors. This concept further explains how two international

Middle Passage By Charles Johnson
The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took
place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave
the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many
different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices
helped create a very successful story about slavery.
This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in
New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love
with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he
will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave
boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was
like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their
culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and
they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean.
Rutherford and a few others are rescued by another ship. He soon find out the Isadora is on board.
Because of his long journey at sea, he is a changed man. Isadora and Rutherford get back together, and

Changes In Aggregate Demand And Short-Run Aggregate Supply
1. Explain how the following changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply, other things
held unchanged, are likely to affect the level of total output and the price level in the short run.
The level of total output and the price level are determined in the short run by the intersection of the
short run aggregate supply curve and the aggregate demand curve (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012).
Therefore, if you know how the changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply will shift
their respective curves, you can explain how the changes will affect the level of total output and the
price level.
An increase in aggregate demand
An increase in aggregate demand will shift the aggregate demand curve to the right. This will cause
the aggregate demand curve to intersect the short run aggregate supply curve at a point above and to
the right of the previous equilibrium point. This means that total output and price levels will rise. In
the graph below, the shift in the aggregate demand curve to the right was caused by an increase in
government purchases, this led to a new intersection or equilibrium point from P1 to P2. The new
intersecting point is at a higher price level and higher output level.
Source: (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012)
A decrease in aggregate demand
A decrease in aggregate demand would have the opposite effect to the increase in aggregate demand
that was discussed in the above answer. With a decrease in aggregate demand, the

Essay on Evolution From A Molecular Perspective
Evolution From A Molecular Perspective
Introduction: Why globular evolution?
Evolution has been a heavily debated issue since Charles Darwin first documented the theory in 1859.
However, until just recently, adaptation at a molecular level has been overlooked except by the
scientific world. Now with the help of modern technology, the protein sequences of nearly every
known living thing have either been established or are in the process of establishment, and are widely
accessible via the internet. With the knowledge of these sequences, one can actually look at several
organisms genetic codes and point out the similarities. Entire genomes of creatures have been
sequenced, and the human genome project is well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemoglobin is the carrier in blood that transports oxygen to our tissues and carbon dioxide out of our
body, changing colors as it does so.
Hence, hemoglobin has long been termed the pigment of our blood. Hemoglobin was one of the first
proteins to be purified to the point where its molecular weight and amino acid composition could be
accurately measured. This finding was very important in that it eventually lead to the understanding
that a protein is a definite compound and not a colloidal mixture of polymers. Each molecule was built
from exactly the same amino acid subunits connected in the same order alonga chain, and had exactly
the same weight. Most organisms have their own unique, individual chain of proteins to make up their
hemoglobin, but all organisms share certain similarities, so striking that they are unable to be ignored.
Let s take, for example, the first twenty five amino acids in the alpha hemoglobin chains of 7 different
animals: a human man, rhesus monkey, cow, platypus, chicken, carp (bony fish), and shark
(cartilaginous fish) (See Table
1.1.) As is shown, the variations increase the further apart the organisms are on the proposed
evolutionary scale. A human man differs from a rhesus monkey only twice in the first twenty five
amino acids of their alpha hemoglobin chains, whereas a man and

TV Show Network Analysis
CBS is considered one of the top six TV show networks that generate a huge percentage of revenue.
The TV show network features a variety of popular TV shows like the Big Bang Theory and Criminal
Minds. Essentially, CBS is responsible for a majority of the TV shows we take as mere entertainment.
Additionally, CBS recently premiered a new series called, Hunted, which involves 18 contestants who
participate as fugitives and remain hidden for 28 days from law enforcement to win a cash prize of
$250,000. Accordingly, this essay will examine the profit driven ideologies based on Richard Butsch s
article by examining similar shows CBS produced, the use of affluent characters, the presence of the
working class in correlation to neoliberalism and tired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once they are on the run, the contestants sacrifice everyday resources like, the comfort of their own
homes for tents in forest areas and money, given they are only allowed to withdraw a maximum of
$100 a day. One can depict this as the contestants portraying a life as working class. According to
Butsch (2011), shows do not always portray affluent characters, but sometimes present working class
characters that still adhere to profit motive ideology by representing something the audience do not
want to be (p. 104). Although the contestants are giving up their lifestyle to complete the game, it
motivates the audience to never be in the position where they have to give up the comfort of their own
life. Therefore, it is enough to watch people suffer than to actually suffer themselves. Alternatively,
neoliberalism is evident because the show is located in states where poverty is evident. As a matter of
fact, the state of Georgia and Alabama (where a majority of contestants live) experience a poverty rate
above 17%. Considering this, the audience become blind to the fact that real life individuals actually
suffer from limitations of resources. Regardless, the audience continue watching these shows because
they share a true interest in watching people experience tough obstacles. As long as it is not them, they
will continue watching shows like Hunted. Therefore, the portrayal of the working class and
neoliberalism allows for more viewers which in return generate

Contemporary art once said Inspiration is for amateurs which means you paint what you see you dont

One of Chuck Close s most famous paintings is his big self portrait of himself in 1968 which was 107
½ × 83 ½ × 2 inches. Chuck Close was born on July 5, 1940 in Monroe, Washington. His father,
Leslie Durward Close, was a sheet metal worker, and his mother Mildred Wagner was a trained

Bioterrorism is the deliberate use of a biological organism such as a virus or bacterium as a weapon to

progressive health and technology advances. With these advances, even normal everyday can initiate a

The government was more interested in customs duties that they may generate from these incoming
goods, than in the control and regulation of the arrival and stay of foreigners. The functions of
immigration remained under the said bureau until 1937, when it was transferred again as a division
under the Bureau of Labor. This was mainly to respond to the arrival of Chinese nationals who owned
and operated trade houses, stores, and restaurants in the country. On 22 January 1940, the Second
National Assembly of the Philippine Commonwealth enacted the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940
(Commonwealth Act No. 613). It was signed into law by the President of the United States of America
on September 3, 1940, creating the Bureau of Immigration under the administrative supervision of the
Office of the President. A year or so later, it became an attached agency of the Department of Justice.
Later, its administrative control was returned to the Office of the President. When the Pacific war

Coca Cola and Pepsi are the two most popular and widely recognized beverage brands in the world.
They have been competing in the soft drink sector for over a century and both companies enjoy a high

Ironically, both Pepsi and Coke have similar beginnings: both were created in the 19th century and
both were the results of the experimental work of innovative pharmacists. Coke was created in ...

Although Pepsi s dividend payout ratio is slightly lower than Coca Cola s, the difference is marginal.
(Finance)
The Dividend Payout Ratio means the percentage of earnings paid to shareholders in dividends. The
payout ratio provides an idea of how well earnings support the dividend payments. More mature
companies tend to have a higher payout ratio. This ratio is calculated as Dividends per share /
Earnings per share. The Dividend payout ratio for Coca Cola is 48.2% while PepsiCo is 34.8%
The price/earnings ratio (P/E) is the best known of the investment valuation indicators. It is the
measure of the share price relative to the annual net income earned by the firm per share. The P/E ratio
has its imperfections, but it is nevertheless the most widely reported and used valuation by investment
professionals and the investing public. The financial reporting of both companies and investment
research services use a basic earnings per share (EPS) figure divided into the current stock price to
calculate the P/E multiple (i.e. how many times a stock is trading (its price) per each dollar of EPS). A
high PE ratio generally indicates increased demand because investors anticipate earnings growth in the
future. The PE ratio has units of years, which can be interpreted as the number of years of earnings to
pay back purchase price. The price/earnings ratio for Coca Cola is 12.97 while PepsiCo is 16.24.

(48 Larson) Good Literature is what it sounds like it s good but nothing amazing. It is for example, the
Hunger Games, where it is a fun and exciting read, but doesn t spark a change or awakening. This
distinction between good and great is vital to the gradual understanding of what makes the human
mind tick. Good literature might be nice for a quick and easy read on the beach, but Great literature or
nonfiction will change one s view point and requires detail and focus to extract its full meaning. Our
group established 5 criterions to state what makes great literature. Our first criterion was A great book
must contain a message that applies to not only those who have experienced situations in the book, but
provide perspective to those who have not. A message that can be understood by numerous groups of
people is vital to a great piece of literature. Our second criterion is that in order to teach a lesson it
must expose a fault in human nature or in society. Our society is just as flawed as humanity is.
Acknowledging these flaws is the first step in overcoming the trials of society and man. Our third
criterion is centered around the craftsmanship of the literary work. This can apply to a groundbreaking
new approach to narration. Or even complex characters and a unique and individual style (Faulkner.)

Fellow Citizens Of America
Fellow Citizens of the United States of America:
I am honored to be here today with all of you showing the strength of the Constitution, democracy,
and the American people. As we gather here today, a new chapter is beginning in America. Hopefully,
a better chapter. One that will be written in history books and remembered as a Golden Age. I have
struggled for years to help improve our glorious country and protect the its citizens. From my years on
the Senate working for equal pay for women and as a governor in California bringing California to
number one in education test score nationwide. The American people have been with me through it all.
Telling me what they need and helping me be able to work towards change for the better. All of you
are the reason why I am able to be here on this stage and I plan to work hard to serve you to the best of
my ability. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our nation has faced trials and tribulations from numerous outside threats, and now, we are facing a
different type of obstacle.
I know that recently a part of these United States have moved to attempt to distance themselves from
America. Even to the point of seceding. They have said that our great country is too powerful, too
technologically advanced, that the government promises to grant privacy but goes back on there word.
They have evidence too! Since the 2005 incident with the NSA things have only gotten worse. There
have been cases of the government or individual corporations invading the privacy of the American

Clothes” by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni Essay
The short store Clothes by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is about a young Indian woman, Sumita, and
her cultural transition to America that is symbolized by her clothes and the color of her clothes. The
traditional Indian attire for a woman is a sari and each one has its own purpose. Her clothes also
indicate her progression from daughter, to wife, to woman.
The story starts off with the bride to be in a yellow sari preparing to meet her future husband by
bathing in a lake. She describes the yellow sari as a sunflower after rain. Yellow here could possible
signify new times to come or peace. The bath she was taking is relaxing her to the idea that she is
about to marry a man she has not even met, as well as the thought of losing her ... Show more content

[talk about Indian tradition and beliefs about Indian women becoming Americanized]
In some countries white signifies purity and cleanliness. In others it is the color of royalty or deities.
Sumita s husband owns a 7 11 store in California. He is constantly having to work the night shift to try
to earn extra money so that they can move out on their own. One night he is held at gun point and shot
to death. To mourn his death Sumita wears a white sari.
During the mourning of his death they perform a bangle breaking ceremony. [talk about the ceremony
and what It means] They break the bangles that are on Sumita s arm and send multi colored shards
flying all over the room and on the sheet that her husband lies under. The multi colored shards might
represent the fact that right now her life has shattered like the bracelets and she is scattered in a place
that she is not familier with.
You can now tell that Sumita has become pretty Americanized compared to when she first arrived in
the United States. For instance, she is talking about getting an education and working in a school
teaching in front of a classroom of blond kids in her cream and brown American dress. She is
beginning to make more decisions on her own and step away from her beliefs. Here the color cream
and the color brown are making her feel more americanized. If you are to go back a few paragraphs
when her husband first bought the skirt and

The Validity Of Social Exchange Theories
Social Exchange theory Theories are defined as a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as
the basis of action (Theory, n.d.). The theory that I researched is the social exchange theory. Defined
as interpreting people s social interactions that are based on estimates of rewards and punishment. The
research indicates that the theory is valid. I will go further in to depth.
This theory is relevant in many peoples lives. Let me explain in a scenario. A man named Johnathan
was shopping for a graduation gift for his best friend Anna. He spent days trying to find a suitable gift
to give. After days, he finally found the perfect gift. The gift cost a lot of money to get and he felt
proud of it. Later, at graduation, he gave Ann the amazing gift, and wondered what he would get from
her. Ann pulled out a congratulations card and handed it to him. Even though he liked it, deep down he
had high expectations and in turn the payoff was low for him, causing him to have negative feeling
about the interaction. Social exchange theory can be explained in many ways, but this scenario
explained it well.
The social exchange theory s first major appearance in publication world came from John Thibault,
and Harold Kelly in 1952 ( Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main critic to address the inaccuracy of this theory is Katherine Miller. In her publication in 2005
she proposed many objectives regarding the theory. Katherine Stated, Social Exchange theory assumes
that the intimacy achieved in relationships is linear in nature (SET, 2012, para.10). What does this
mean? Let me explain. Looking deeper into the research her issue is for the theory to be accurate,
certain social parameters need to be met. In Katherines words, she says that the theory needs to rely on
the openness of the social interaction to be accurate (SET, 2012, para.10). Does Katherines article
regarding social exchange theory factual? Perhaps it is.

How To Gain Power In Lord Of The Flies
Order is the most common and favorable tool when leading others, but there are different, more
manipulative ways to gain leadership. Order or charisma are sometimes not necessary to become a
leader, but when they are not, dictation can be used to gain leadership. Jack from William Golding s
Lord of the Flies is stuck on an uncharted island with the other boys and they are faced with the
complication of organizing themselves. Jack is in competition to gain leadership with the other older
boys and to manipulate the younger boys to follow him. Jack must first gain followers and make the
decision of what type of leader he should become. Jack s goal to become a dictatorial chief motivates
him to reject order and give promises that are more like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ralph calls for an assembly to discuss what the boys have to do on the island. Jack then gets into an
argument with Ralph over how Ralph isn t a proper chief. Jack rebels Ralph s order and decided that
he s not going to be apart of (Golding 127) Ralph s group. Jack leaving the others is the start of his
rise to his dictatorial rule over the boys. Jack uses him leaving to gain followers to have authority,
which leads to his misuse of power. Jack has the boys think he is a better chief than Ralph by saying
he can do different things as a chief than what Ralph has done as chief. Before Jack s rise in power,
Jack further rejects order to become a dictatorial chief by breaking the rules of the island. The boys
decide that they need a way to signal passing ships and go to the mountain to make a signal fire and
Jack decides that. Jack rebels order by going against current rules in place through manipulating the
order of the conch and says that the conch doesn t count on top of the mountain (Golding 42). Jack
breaking the rule of the person holding the conch further adds to his motivation to be a dictatorial
chief, because he is not following rules which leads to him to be a dictatorial chief. Jack would then
misuse his power and not enstate rules as a chief. Jack aspires to be a dictatorial chief through
rejecting the order of the island and he also does so through the promises he gives to his

Teton Dam Failure
Ethical Case Study of the Teton Dam Failure
The collapse of Teton Dam on June 5th 1976 marked one of the greatest civil engineering disasters in
modern US history because of the utter lack of ethics that went into the execution of project. The dam
failure resulted in the deaths of 14 humans, over 13000 livestock, destroyed over 700 homes, 250
businesses, and damaged another 3000 homes. Despite the mercifully low number of human deaths,
this was an accident that never should have occurred in the first place. Dams have been critical to
civilizations for supplying water and hydraulic power for thousands of years. However, if safety
protocols and guidelines to dam building are taken lightly, catastrophic consequences follow; the

The Teton dam was built with the intention of providing a more constant supply of water, flood
control, and to serve as a hydro electric plant. The site was based in the Snake River Plain on the
Teton river. Although never truly in the epicenter of earthquakes, there have been several seismic
activities in close proximity to the proposed site in the previous years. No real concern was given to
this fact as investigations to building the dam continued. Geologically, the site was covered in rather
porous volcanic rock formations such as basalt, rhyolite, and tuff that formed from the ashes of a
Yellowstone supereruption 2.1 million years ago. Porous material is not ideal for dam formation. In
addition, there were significant fissures in the bedrocks. The tuff at the right abutment is also greatly
jointed, in other words the surface of the rocks were fractured into many visible pieces. The project
continued with no concern for these issues as they were technically solvable with proper treatment

Rent Simulation
After World War I, the demand for rental housing in New York City threatened to drive rents higher. In
order to keep rents from rising to their equilibrium levels, city officials imposed rent ceilings. Over
time, the implementation of rent ceilings caused a market shortage to occur because the demand for
rent controlled units exceeded the supply. According to the law of supply and demand when the price
decreases below the equilibrium point there is a move to the right on the demand curve. Conversely,
the decrease in price causes a move to the left on the supply curve. Customers demand more of an
item, in this case, housing, when the price is lower; however, the suppliers are willing to supply less at
the new lower price. This shift in New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Someone renting in an upscale section of Manhattan might pay only $1,000 a month for a three
bedroom rent regulated apartment, yet the same apartment could garner upwards of $12,000 per
month in the free market (Mceachern, 2014). Since tenants in rent controlled apartments are allowed
to stay in their unit until they die and are permitted to leave their apartment to their heirs, the incentive
for renters to remain indefinitely in a rent controlled apartment is very high. Renters financially
benefit by keeping a rent controlled apartment, even in situations where the apartment may no longer
meet their needs. On the other hand, the landlord is certainly the loser in the rent controlled situation
and has an equally high financial incentive to try to get renters out of rent controlled apartments.
Landlords and building owners are not the only ones that fail to benefit in a rent control scenario.
Other renters that are lower income and unable to secure a rent controlled apartment because the
current renters of a rent controlled apartment hold onto them long term (even when the have the
income to afford the free market) also lose out in a rent control situation. The actual renters of the rent
controlled apartments, while they benefit financially, sometimes lose out as well because the landlord
does not keep up the quality of the apartment. As

So the concept of sea based forward presence, capability to respond any crisis is essential to United
States. Capability of the amphibious operations has been significantly increased since Inchon landing.
As we mentioned above cutbacks of the Marine Corps and political situation that not excepting large
scale amphibious operations, instead of preparing large ground war in European theater of war,
capabilities of amphibious operations was inadequate. As we seen from the history of Inchon landing,
General MacArthur created force of 70000 marines, reserves and soldiers as well as 261 strong fleet of
American and United Nations vessels. In nowadays, according to its forward presence and crisis
respond concept, United States have great capabilities to conduct amphibious operations. After budget
increases in 1980 s, Marine Corps started their modernization plan of equipments. First of all,
maritime prepositioning ships and bases are giving significant capability to Marine Corps. Operating
from their deployed ships, marines can deploy and engage with fully operational forces, anywhere in
the world within 24 hours to 11 days in support of national interest. In addition to Maritime
prepositioning force, Marine Corps deploying regionally oriented Marine Air Ground Task forces to

Reflection Of Blindness
An individual is not merely defined by the situations that they find themselves in, but rather how they
react during these tragic moments. The eminent novel, Blindness, by Jose Saramago, is an iconic story
that illustrates a country enduring a pandemic that causes the inhabitants to acquire a type of blindness
where they only see white. The unfortunate citizens who fall ill to the white blindness find themselve
quarantined in an abandoned mental hospital where havoc inevitably ensues. A significant character
that demonstrates the notion that you are defined by your actions is the doctor s wife as she was
originally a very timid and kind character who then endured an atrocious situation and became very
malicious. Whereas the girl with the dark glasses is an individual who was first presented as extremely
selfish but later developed into an extremely selfless individual. To continue, the young boy was a
character who valued his family for the entire novel and found it very difficult to live without them,
yet due to his circumstances, he was able to adapt. The responses that the characters within Blindness
by Jose Saramago have when presented in the face of adversity is what truly defines those particular
characters. It is often through atrocious situations where individuals face a shift in their values and
inevitably discover a new aspect of themselves whether it be malice, selflessness or carelessness. The
deepest and darkest aspects of oneself often only shine through when an individual undergoes a
horrendous situation. During the commencement of the novel Blindness, the doctor s wife was
originally one of the kindest and caring characters that Saramago mentions. This notion is evident
when her husband the doctor was being taken away to be quarantined. During this chapter, the doctor
was being seized by military officials as he was struck with the white blindness and needed to be
quarantined. Although the doctor s wife was not blind she told the military officials that she was also
ill in order to stay by her husband s side. When the couple arrived at the mental hospital, the doctor
asked his wife why she risked falling ill to the atrocious disease by going to the hospital. She calmly
replied, my love... I m

In Greek Religion , Walter Burkert informs his readers mostly about the Greeks religious beliefs. In
section one, Burkert begins to discuss the history of the Early Bronze Age, such as the vocabulary of
Indo European and the religion of the Minoan Mycenaeans. He mentions the different cult places
which include: caves, temples, graves, as well as peak, tree, and house sanctuaries. For example, a cult

Betrayal In The Count Of Monte Cristo
Revenge Can be Bitter In the book The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas there are many
acts of betrayal against one another. Fernand is quick to betray people for his own gain; especially
Edmond, which led to a harsh grudge against him. Fernand s act of betrayal was the harshest against
Edmond. From the beginning, Fernand envies Edmond s relationship with Merccédès and betrays him
to get her. Fernand kept bugging Mercédès from the start about her love and devotion for Edmond,
trying to dig out a false answer (Dumas 12). Edmond calls Fernand an enemy at first, not hesitant to
strike him down until Mercédès explained who he was (Dumas 13). Fernand said, How can I get rid of
him! What can I do? What can I do (Dumas 13)? Fernand is very jealous of Edmond s relationship
with Mercédès, and Fernand s act of betrayal is the worst of all the acts of betrayal. He is not afraid to
step on people to push himself higher in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

shot rang out and dark smoke floated out through one of the bedroom windows, which had been
shattered by the force of the explosion (Dumas 394 395). When Edmond calls out Fernand, he doesn t
just tell him who he is, but he also calls him out, stating how he wasn t who he was supposed to be.
The Count jabs at Fernand, saying how he is supposed to be a soldier, bound by the law, who exhibits

One of these events was the Cold War, which was fought between the U.S.A and the USSR. The war led the two nations to start a technology war called the Space Race. • 4. Nero And Roman Architecture The monumental tragedy of burning ancient Rome, known as the Great Fire of Rome, was noteworthy in history although, it has crucial details that still confuse us. According to Tacitus, a roman historian, wrote in The Annals (around year 116) that an urban fire broke out in the merchant area of the city of Rome on the night between 18 and 19 July in the year 64 AD. The fire widespread devastation consumed all in its path for six days and seven nights, leaving almost seventy percent of the city in ruins. Only four of the fourteen districts of Rome were saved from the fire. Three districts were totally destroyed. The remaining seven were significantly affected. For years, many historians including Tacitus stated that Nero, the ruler of the time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And this was an influential theme during his ruling years. He had this urge to live through art. Nero did not like the aesthetics of the city. This is the reason why he wanted to build a new city, with new artistically designed buildings. This was important for him. He consider himself an artistic. When he was attempting suicide, he grieved for the people s loss even more than his own loss of life. His final words indicate this when he said, Qualis artifex pereo! or, What an artisan I am in my dying (Suetonius, Nero 49.1).Evidence showed that the new Rome that Nero built, exhibited the high artistic goals that characterized his artistic mind. History recalls that his palace was named the Domus Aurea, meaning that it was almost completely overlaid with gold. He designed a new palace for himself, more sumptuous and expansive than any Roman structure built before. Another example is a large area, close to where the fire started, between Portico of Livia to the Circus Maximus, which the emperor turned into beautiful gardens that included an artificial lake in the center. A temple that was constructed to deified Claudious, was demolished because it was completed and more importantly in was in the way of Nero s design plan. Art critics agree that this style revolutioned architecture and was an inspiration to Leonardo DaVinci and even Michaelangelo. This is clearly supporting the fact that the Nero s distorted mind schemed a plan to construct all these places. He needed the foundation, he needed a new Rome, he decided to burn the old ... • 6. Native American Beliefs In Native America And Sir Walter... Long before the first Europeans arrived Native Americans, had their own religions, lifestyles, and customs. While these cultures were similar in some ways to the civilized nations, they were also very different. Upon arrival in the New World some people, such as Thomas Hariot, set out to document these new peoples, and their ways of life and, as was important in those days, their religion. By informing people in England of the New World, more settlers would be likely to come. If possible travelers are informed of their destination, there will be less apprehension about going. Thomas Hariot was one such informer. An Englishman who accompanied Sir Walter Raleigh on his voyage to establish a colony in the New World, he kept accounts of his explorations and later had them published in his A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. His book described the land and people of Virginia as he traveled the country. One of the tribes he wrote about and described was known as the Algonquin. Hariot described the people of the tribe as being [C]lothed in loose mantles made of Deere skins and aprons of the same rounde about their middle; all els[e] naked... allowing his English readers to realize the Algonquin were slightly unprogressive compared to themselves in terms of clothing. Yet the author does not seem to look down upon the natives for their rather primitive way of dressing. Mr. Hariot went on to describe their lack of advanced tools and weapons: those ... Despite Crimea being in Ukrainian territory, Russia has invaded the region and claimed it as their own. • 8. Middle Passage By Charles Johnson The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices helped create a very successful story about slavery. This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean. • 9. Changes In Aggregate Demand And Short-Run Aggregate Supply 1. Explain how the following changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply, other things held unchanged, are likely to affect the level of total output and the price level in the short run. The level of total output and the price level are determined in the short run by the intersection of the short run aggregate supply curve and the aggregate demand curve (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012). Therefore, if you know how the changes in aggregate demand or short run aggregate supply will shift their respective curves, you can explain how the changes will affect the level of total output and the price level. An increase in aggregate demand An increase in aggregate demand will shift the aggregate demand curve to the right. This will cause the aggregate demand curve to intersect the short run aggregate supply curve at a point above and to the right of the previous equilibrium point. This means that total output and price levels will rise. In the graph below, the shift in the aggregate demand curve to the right was caused by an increase in government purchases, this led to a new intersection or equilibrium point from P1 to P2. The new intersecting point is at a higher price level and higher output level. Source: (Rittenberg and Tregarthen, 2012) A decrease in aggregate demand A decrease in aggregate demand would have the opposite effect to the increase in aggregate demand that was discussed in the above answer. Hemoglobin is the carrier in blood that transports oxygen to our tissues and carbon dioxide out of our body, changing colors as it does so. Hence, hemoglobin has long been termed the pigment of our blood. Hemoglobin was one of the first proteins to be purified to the point where its molecular weight and amino acid composition could be accurately measured. This finding was very important in that it eventually lead to the understanding that a protein is a definite compound and not a colloidal mixture of polymers. Each molecule was built from exactly the same amino acid subunits connected in the same order alonga chain, and had exactly the same weight. Most organisms have their own unique, individual chain of proteins to make up their hemoglobin, but all organisms share certain similarities, so striking that they are unable to be ignored. Let s take, for example, the first twenty five amino acids in the alpha hemoglobin chains of 7 different animals: a human man, rhesus monkey, cow, platypus, chicken, carp (bony fish), and shark (cartilaginous fish) (See Table 1.1.) As is shown, the variations increase the further apart the organisms are on the proposed evolutionary scale. A human man differs from a rhesus monkey only twice in the first twenty five amino acids of their alpha hemoglobin chains, whereas a man and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Additionally, CBS recently premiered a new series called, Hunted, which involves 18 contestants who participate as fugitives and remain hidden for 28 days from law enforcement to win a cash prize of $250,000. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once they are on the run, the contestants sacrifice everyday resources like, the comfort of their own homes for tents in forest areas and money, given they are only allowed to withdraw a maximum of $100 a day. One can depict this as the contestants portraying a life as working class. According to Butsch (2011), shows do not always portray affluent characters, but sometimes present working class characters that still adhere to profit motive ideology by representing something the audience do not want to be (p. 104). Although the contestants are giving up their lifestyle to complete the game, it motivates the audience to never be in the position where they have to give up the comfort of their own life. Therefore, it is enough to watch people suffer than to actually suffer themselves. Alternatively, neoliberalism is evident because the show is located in states where poverty is evident. As a matter of fact, the state of Georgia and Alabama (where a majority of contestants live) experience a poverty rate above 17%. Considering this, the audience become blind to the fact that real life individuals actually suffer from limitations of resources. Regardless, the audience continue watching these shows because they share a true interest in watching people experience tough obstacles. As long as it is not them, they will continue watching shows like Hunted. Therefore, the portrayal of the working class and neoliberalism allows for more viewers which in return generate ... The Dividend payout ratio for Coca Cola is 48.2% while PepsiCo is 34.8% The price/earnings ratio (P/E) is the best known of the investment valuation indicators. It is the measure of the share price relative to the annual net income earned by the firm per share. The P/E ratio has its imperfections, but it is nevertheless the most widely reported and used valuation by investment professionals and the investing public. The financial reporting of both companies and investment research services use a basic earnings per share (EPS) figure divided into the current stock price to calculate the P/E multiple (i.e. how many times a stock is trading (its price) per each dollar of EPS). A high PE ratio generally indicates increased demand because investors anticipate earnings growth in the future. A message that can be understood by numerous groups of people is vital to a great piece of literature. Our second criterion is that in order to teach a lesson it must expose a fault in human nature or in society. Our society is just as flawed as humanity is. Acknowledging these flaws is the first step in overcoming the trials of society and man. Our third criterion is centered around the craftsmanship of the literary work. This can apply to a groundbreaking new approach to narration. Or even complex characters and a unique and individual style (Faulkner.) In summary, the 3rd criterion tries to move past just the message itself, and to focus on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Clothes” by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni Essay The short store Clothes by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is about a young Indian woman, Sumita, and her cultural transition to America that is symbolized by her clothes and the color of her clothes. The traditional Indian attire for a woman is a sari and each one has its own purpose. Her clothes also indicate her progression from daughter, to wife, to woman. The story starts off with the bride to be in a yellow sari preparing to meet her future husband by bathing in a lake. She describes the yellow sari as a sunflower after rain. Yellow here could possible signify new times to come or peace. The bath she was taking is relaxing her to the idea that she is about to marry a man she has not even met, as well as the thought of losing her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sumita s husband owns a 7 11 store in California. He is constantly having to work the night shift to try to earn extra money so that they can move out on their own. One night he is held at gun point and shot to death. To mourn his death Sumita wears a white sari. During the mourning of his death they perform a bangle breaking ceremony. [talk about the ceremony and what It means] They break the bangles that are on Sumita s arm and send multi colored shards flying all over the room and on the sheet that her husband lies under. The multi colored shards might represent the fact that right now her life has shattered like the bracelets and she is scattered in a place that she is not familier with. You can now tell that Sumita has become pretty Americanized compared to when she first arrived in the United States. For instance, she is talking about getting an education and working in a school teaching in front of a classroom of blond kids in her cream and brown American dress. She is beginning to make more decisions on her own and step away from her beliefs. Here the color cream and the color brown are making her feel more americanized. • 22. The Validity Of Social Exchange Theories Social Exchange theory Theories are defined as a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as the basis of action (Theory, n.d.). The theory that I researched is the social exchange theory. Defined as interpreting people s social interactions that are based on estimates of rewards and punishment. The research indicates that the theory is valid. I will go further in to depth. This theory is relevant in many peoples lives. Let me explain in a scenario. A man named Johnathan was shopping for a graduation gift for his best friend Anna. He spent days trying to find a suitable gift to give. After days, he finally found the perfect gift. The gift cost a lot of money to get and he felt proud of it. Later, at graduation, he gave Ann the amazing gift, and wondered what he would get from her. Ann pulled out a congratulations card and handed it to him. Even though he liked it, deep down he had high expectations and in turn the payoff was low for him, causing him to have negative feeling about the interaction. Social exchange theory can be explained in many ways, but this scenario explained it well. Looking deeper into the research her issue is for the theory to be accurate, certain social parameters need to be met. In Katherines words, she says that the theory needs to rely on the openness of the social interaction to be accurate (SET, 2012, para.10). Order or charisma are sometimes not necessary to become a leader, but when they are not, dictation can be used to gain leadership. Jack from William Golding s Lord of the Flies is stuck on an uncharted island with the other boys and they are faced with the complication of organizing themselves. Jack is in competition to gain leadership with the other older boys and to manipulate the younger boys to follow him. Jack uses him leaving to gain followers to have authority, which leads to his misuse of power. Jack has the boys think he is a better chief than Ralph by saying he can do different things as a chief than what Ralph has done as chief. Before Jack s rise in power, Jack further rejects order to become a dictatorial chief by breaking the rules of the island. The boys decide that they need a way to signal passing ships and go to the mountain to make a signal fire and Jack decides that. Jack rebels order by going against current rules in place through manipulating the order of the conch and says that the conch doesn t count on top of the mountain (Golding 42). Jack breaking the rule of the person holding the conch further adds to his motivation to be a dictatorial chief, because he is not following rules which leads to him to be a dictatorial chief. Teton Dam Failure Ethical Case Study of the Teton Dam Failure The collapse of Teton Dam on June 5th 1976 marked one of the greatest civil engineering disasters in modern US history because of the utter lack of ethics that went into the execution of project. The dam failure resulted in the deaths of 14 humans, over 13000 livestock, destroyed over 700 homes, 250 businesses, and damaged another 3000 homes. Despite the mercifully low number of human deaths, this was an accident that never should have occurred in the first place. No real concern was given to this fact as investigations to building the dam continued. Geologically, the site was covered in rather porous volcanic rock formations such as basalt, rhyolite, and tuff that formed from the ashes of a Yellowstone supereruption 2.1 million years ago. Porous material is not ideal for dam formation. In addition, there were significant fissures in the bedrocks. • 25. Rent Simulation After World War I, the demand for rental housing in New York City threatened to drive rents higher. In order to keep rents from rising to their equilibrium levels, city officials imposed rent ceilings. Over time, the implementation of rent ceilings caused a market shortage to occur because the demand for rent controlled units exceeded the supply. According to the law of supply and demand when the price decreases below the equilibrium point there is a move to the right on the demand curve. Conversely, the decrease in price causes a move to the left on the supply curve. Customers demand more of an item, in this case, housing, when the price is lower; however, the suppliers are willing to supply less at the new lower price. This shift in New ... Someone renting in an upscale section of Manhattan might pay only $1,000 a month for a three bedroom rent regulated apartment, yet the same apartment could garner upwards of $12,000 per month in the free market (Mceachern, 2014). Since tenants in rent controlled apartments are allowed to stay in their unit until they die and are permitted to leave their apartment to their heirs, the incentive for renters to remain indefinitely in a rent controlled apartment is very high. Renters financially benefit by keeping a rent controlled apartment, even in situations where the apartment may no longer meet their needs. On the other hand, the landlord is certainly the loser in the rent controlled situation and has an equally high financial incentive to try to get renters out of rent controlled apartments. Landlords and building owners are not the only ones that fail to benefit in a rent control scenario. Other renters that are lower income and unable to secure a rent controlled apartment because the current renters of a rent controlled apartment hold onto them long term (even when the have the income to afford the free market) also lose out in a rent control situation. • 27. Reflection Of Blindness An individual is not merely defined by the situations that they find themselves in, but rather how they react during these tragic moments. The eminent novel, Blindness, by Jose Saramago, is an iconic story that illustrates a country enduring a pandemic that causes the inhabitants to acquire a type of blindness where they only see white. The unfortunate citizens who fall ill to the white blindness find themselve quarantined in an abandoned mental hospital where havoc inevitably ensues. A significant character that demonstrates the notion that you are defined by your actions is the doctor s wife as she was originally a very timid and kind character who then endured an atrocious situation and became very malicious. Whereas the girl with the dark glasses is an individual who was first presented as extremely selfish but later developed into an extremely selfless individual. To continue, the young boy was a character who valued his family for the entire novel and found it very difficult to live without them, yet due to his circumstances, he was able to adapt. The responses that the characters within Blindness by Jose Saramago have when presented in the face of adversity is what truly defines those particular characters. It is often through atrocious situations where individuals face a shift in their values and inevitably discover a new aspect of themselves whether it be malice, selflessness or carelessness. The deepest and darkest aspects of oneself often only shine through when an individual undergoes a horrendous situation. During the commencement of the novel Blindness, the doctor s wife was originally one of the kindest and caring characters that Saramago mentions. This notion is evident when her husband the doctor was being taken away to be quarantined. During this chapter, the doctor was being seized by military officials as he was struck with the white blindness and needed to be quarantined. Although the doctor s wife was not blind she told the military officials that she was also ill in order to stay by her husband s side. Fernand is quick to betray people for his own gain; especially Edmond, which led to a harsh grudge against him. Fernand s act of betrayal was the harshest against Edmond. From the beginning, Fernand envies Edmond s relationship with Merccédès and betrays him to get her.
