Social Media And Its Impact On New Media
The widespread use of social media and the resulting transition to a system dependent on new
media has fundamentally changed the ways in which we communicate. One significant aspect of
communication that has been drastically altered is the news media and their presence on social
media sites such as Twitter primarily as a result of our changing interactions with and
procurement of the news. Over the course of the last semester, I worked as an Assistant Producer
for both Unify and Activism Media, which are sister companies. One of the most significant
experiences I had during my internship was in my work as a journalist for Activism Media. I was
assigned to cover the public s responses to the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests
following the failure to indict both Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo (also known as the Shut it
Down protests). My experiences during this assignment illustrated a number of theoretical concepts
in the media studies field chiefly: citizen journalism, agenda setting, and framing. The creation of
the printing press and news media significantly altered the world s ability to communicate. Many
scholars have argued that with the printing press came a transformation of the public sphere and
the public s ability to discuss and identify societal issues. JГјrgen Habermas, a German sociologist
and philosopher, posits that early modern capitalism created conditions for this bourgeois public
sphere to emerge. Numerous conditions permitted

Vyse And Waller
Vyse and a new Partnership The evolving partnership of Charles Vyse and Barbara Waller (1949
1951) would prove to be exacting and industrious. Working at the Cheyne Row studio they
produced a number of animal and figure models, alongside a range of Chinese inspired high fired,
ash glazed stoneware vessels. Whether by design or accident, much of the figurative work of Vyse
and Waller partnership, would in the future, prove problematical for collectors. However, at this
remove, it is difficult to attribute some figures and vessels, either jointly or individually.
Furthermore, it is impossible to assign specific tasks, such as modelling, decorating, and glazing, to
either of the partners. To compound the conflict of attribution, there are occasions when both Vyse
and Waller have exhibited the same figure, individually signed, and again, as a... Show more content

Also an explanation of the rationale of a relatively small period collaborative work, exhibited
singly and jointly by Vyse and Waller, will involve the reader in a certain amount of time
travelling. It would appear that such was the working relationship of Vyse and Miss Waller that
they thought little of interpreting each other s work as they saw to be artistically appropriate.
For instance, in the illustration Fig. 168, Miss Waller appears to be working on the clay model
of a Shire horse. However, archived in the modern ceramic collection of the V A museum is a
Temmoku glazed stoneware edition of this same Shire horse, which has inscribed on the base,
Charles Vyse/Barbara Waller/Chelsea/1950. Therefore, it is fair to assume, therefore, the edition
of Shire horse, conserved in the modern ceramic collection of the V A, Vyse had retained the
moulds of original model by Waller, and after it had been slip cast and fired to the biscuit state, it
was Temmoku

Essay about Big Business In The Gilded Age
The late 19th century and early 20th century, dubbed the Gilded Age by writer Mark Twain, was
a time of great growth and change in every aspect of the United States, and even more so for big
business. It was this age that gave birth to many of the important modern business practices we
take for granted today, and those in charge of business at the time were considered revolutionaries,
whether it was for the good of the people or the good of themselves. The exact period of time in
which the Gilded Ageoccurred is ever debatable, but most historians can at least agree that it
started within the 20 years after the Civil War ended and lasted until the early 1920s. (West) The
Gilded Age itself was characterized by the beginnings of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This law forced the railroads to report to the federal government before making important decisions
like how much to charge customers. The railroad companies were outraged and used the defense
that their monopolies were almost automatically formed, but there was nothing they could do since
the law was federal. (Moritz 19 24, 28) Telegraph grids were another technological advancement of
the Gilded Age. For the first time in history, transcontinental communication was possible. People
could now find out about news from across the nation within minutes of it happening, instead of
days as it sometimes took before. Businesses took advantage of this by building plants and factories
all across the country, hiring managers for each individual outfit, and communicating among each
location with ease. (Sinclair 75) Telegraph lines were also a nurturing point for one of the most
famous business tycoons of the Gilded Age, Andrew Carnegie. (Carnegie 653) Carnegie not only
got his start as a young Irish immigrant working as a railroad telegraph operator, his first major
corporation was the Keystone Telegraph Company, in which he acquired the Pacific and Atlantic
Telegraph Company. Carnegie thought of giving up on business after having moderate success, but
on a trip to England in 1872, he met with Henry Bessemer and saw his plans for steel. (Carnegie

Why Is Alexander Brongniart Important
Alexander Brongniart s earliest scientific papers was accepted in 1791 was on various zoological
and mineralogical. In 1804 Pierre Latreille elevated the batrachians into a separate class, the
amphibians, Brongniart s grouping of the true reptiles into chelonians, saurians, and ophidians has
been retained, in essence, in modern systematics.
In 1807 Brongniart published Elementary mineralogy Treaty, a work assigned as a textbook for his
and HaГјy s courses at the Faculty of Sciences and the Natural History Museum. Like other
mineralogists at this time, he could not easily distinguish some fine grained rocks from true simple
minerals.
Brongniart s early studies in zoology and mineralogy coalesced in the geological work that made
him famous throughout the scientific world. Cuvier had already begun his series of spectacular
reconstructions of extinct mammals from the Paris region; these fossils clearly belonged to several
distinct periods, but he needed a reliable clue to their relative ages. He and Brongniart therefore
collaborated in surveying the region and determining the order of the strata in which the fossils ...

But this extension of Tertiary stratigraphy over a wider geographical area posed the fundamental
problem of geological facies. Rocks of the same age could not be expected to have the same
lithological characters if they were deposited under different conditions in different areas. Even
within the Paris region Brongniart had recognized lateral changes in lithology; on a wider scale the
changes became more general. It was this that led him to stress the primacy of fossil evidence over
that of lithology as a criterion for age, wherever the two sources of evidence were found to

Causes Of The English Reformation
The English Reformation occurs during the Renaissance era officially beginning with Henry
VIII breaking from the Catholic Church in Rome. The country s religion sways back and forth
from Catholicism and Protestantism due to the reigns of Henry s legitimate children: Edward
VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. In 1485, Henry VII became the King of England when he killed
King Richard III in battle. Henry VII had two legitimate sons named Arthur and Henry to inherit
the throne when he dies. Arthur married at the age of nine to Catherine Aragon, the Spanish
Princess, who was fourteen at the time. They went their separate ways before commencement
and Arthur died a few years later of natural causes. Henry VIII was next in line to the throne and
became King. When he was fourteen, he wanted to marry his brother s widow, Catherine, who
was seven years older than him. He bribed the Pope to allow that marriage to his brother s widow.
Once the marriage was approved, Henry decided he needed an heir to the throne. At the time,
women were not rulers of countries and therefore they did not inherit the throne. Catherine had two
boys, but both of them died either within seven days or was stillborn. She ended up having one
surviving child, a girl named Mary. As days went by, Catherine was getting older and still did not
produce an heir to the throne. Henry soon became more attracted to her intern, Anne. Henry VIII
went back to the Pope wanting an annulment from Catherine with a small donation to

John Cheever Reunion
Essay and e mail Reunion
A. An essay analyzing the short story
This essay is going to be an analysis and interpretation of the short story Reunion by John Cheever.
It will begin with a summary of the short story. Afterwards the plot, the conflict and the setting will
be analyzed. Then I ll move on to the characterization, the possible surprise ending and the theme
and message. Finally I will draw parallels between the short story Reunion and the essay Living
With Strangers by Siri Hustvedt.
Reunion is a short story about a boy called Charlie and his last interaction with his father. Charlie
was travelling by train from his grandmother s to a cottage his mother had rented. He would be in
New York for about an hour and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that he smells partly of whiskey suggests that he had been drinking. His behavior could
also verify that, as he behaved like an unstable person. He could also just be very, very arrogant as
he almost feels that he is more than for example the waiters. He talks down to people and is
generally very unpleasant. Neither his name or age is mentioned, but he might be in the mid forties.
The characters are directly told about by the narrator for example in this part of the text I smelled
my father the way my mother sniffs a rose. It was a rich compound of whiskey and after shave
lotion, shoe polish, woollens, and the rankness of a mature male . He describes his father directly
with a comment on his smell. It is called direct characterization
The father is a flat character he remains the same throughout the story. He remains being a jerk,
while Charlie is a round character as he develops throughout the story. At first he is excited to see
his father again, but he ends up not wanting to ever see him again.
We are dealing with a first person narrator, who in this story is the protagonist.
The ending could be seen as a surprise ending since Charlie starts being excited to see his father
but ends up saying Goodbye and never wanting to see him again. On the other hand it isn t really
surprising, as the father throughout the story seems very unpleasant and maybe even embarrassing
to be around. It is a case of

effects?
* Does education level of people make them more aware about the unfair trade practices going in
the consumer market?
* Are people aware about consumer courts and consumer protection acts?
* Do people take the initiative to go ahead and fight against, raise voice against these malpractices?
Through our research we will try to find out all the above objectives and come to a conclusion
whether the steps and actions implemented by the government to raise the level of consumer
awareness among the masses is affective or not?
Limitations of the research * The project is not purely based on primary information but includes a
lot of information obtained from various sources.

The Case Of William Potter
Introduction Many workers are presented with ethical dilemmas every single day. In the case of
William Potter, a conflict of interest arose as he thought about promoting his son, Henry, to
CEO of the family company. Knowing he could not make an objective decision, he went to a
loyal, trusted employee, Jill, to do an objective review of Henry for him. This then put Jill in an
ethical dilemma of her own. Though she knows that Henry is doing a great job in his current
position in Miami, she also experienced him propositioning her a few years back, consequently
making her life miserable. This conflict forces her to think about the good of the company as well
as her own good, making for a very tough and tolling decision on how to review Henry. In order to
decide what action Jill should take, both consequentialist and deontological theories should be
considered and applied to her situation.
Consequentialism
According to consequentialist theory, morality is entirely based on the results of your actions, or
all of the consequences that come from doing something (Haines, n.d.). In Jill s case, whatever
she decides to do will likely have both positive and negative consequences. For example, Jill truly
believes that Henry has done a great job with the company in his current position, and therefore if
she recommends making him CEO, he could make the company successful on a much greater
level. However, if she were to do this, she would put herself in the uncomfortable position of

The Enteroctopus Dofleini is the Giant Pacific Octopus
The Enteroctopus dofleini, also known as the Giant Pacific Octopus, is an octopus which can
range from 3 to 5 meter from top of the head to the tip of its arms (9.75 feet to 16 feet) and its
arm range is typically six feet long. The Giant Pacific octopus is reddish brown and on average

coast, before going down near Korea. They prefer cool water temperatures, about 60 degrees
fahrenheit or lower. The water depth in which they live ranges from the shallow, coastal waters
to about 330 feet deep. The Pacific octopus is a benthic creature. The Giant Pacific octopus lives
under rocks, in caves, and under man made objects. They rarely stay in one of their dens for over
a month and choose locations that have many entrances. To eat prey, the Giant Pacific octopus are

Narrative Essay On Maria Carson And Jessie
Late on a Saturday afternoon, Maria Carson and her friend, Jessie, sat working on their history
assignment at the local library. Jessie was a procrastinator, so Maria had to constantly coax and
push her to progress through the assignment in order to finish it on time. Even that Saturday
afternoon, Jessie wanted to catch a movie instead and Maria felt quite annoyed and disappointed

at a later date and left for home. It was a muggy summer s evening and of course with her luck,

She felt good to be so loved. At school the following week, the students also showed a lot of care
and concern and put up lovely notes and messages for her to find on her locker, but then she was
always the smart and popular kid. As things settled and she went to the school cafeteria over
lunch, she waved out to her friends, Jessie and Rebecca, who completely ignored her. To make it
worse, they sat in the booth right behind her, which is how she overheard them talking about her.
The truth hurts but it doesn t kill; but sometimes it is better not to know. Maria overheard Jessie
reveal how she really felt about her. Maria thought, What?! Me, judgemental, arrogant and
demanding? How nasty of her! Later at the change rooms before sports she heard, from behind

what my world is going to be a loving and caring world totally different from the world we are

Un Official Founding Fathers of Psychology These four men that we are about to talk about are
some of the, if not the most important people in psychology. One developed psychology as a
school of thought and published the first book on the subject which opened the door for another to
develop his theories. Years after the book came out another thinker was inspired to look into the
human mind and this time with a more scientifically critical mind and approach, there was a

This helps improve the one so that eventually that one will go out into society and become
responsible for themselves and each other as good members of it. Adler continued to believe
that Freud had made a point by looking back at ones childhood for answers but rather than
focusing on the sexual root to the problem, he focused on the feelings that came out of a
situation (Lafountain, 2009). For example, if one grew up afraid to take charge of situations
because someone else always did it for them, they could have trouble later in life trying to be in
charge of themselves or other people. After studying with Freud he went on to focus on how
society affects an individual and how that individual functions in society. He believed there were
three things a person needed to accomplish in life to be a healthy socially minded person. First is
the task of finding how to survive, a job, maintaining ones house, the responsible things. Second
is cooperating and being civil as well as respectful to society. Third are intimate relationships,
having children, friends, a spouse. All three of these were crucial to being a normally functioning
person in society (Lafountain, 2010). Basically a person is unique in nearly all aspects of their life
and that needs to be taken into account in each and every case from psychology to teaching because
not everyone is going to fit together well.
Carl Jung, as with Adler was inspired and influenced by Freud in the early

Research Paper On Psoriasis
PSORIASIS AS A SYSTEMIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE:
There is increasing awareness that psoriasis as a disease is more than skin deep and that it has
important systemic manifestations that are shared with other chronic inflammatory diseases, such
as Crohn s disease and diabetes mellitus. The shared conditions include the metabolic syndrome,
depression, and cancer.3 It is unclear whether cancer, particularly lymphoma and skin cancer, is
related to the disease or its treatment (Gelfand et al., 2006).
An associated arthropathy, psoriatic arthritis, has features in common with psoriasis but is
considered to be a distinct disease entity with a distinct therapeutic spectrum (Ravindran et al.,

a role of T cells in established inflammatory disease. However, there are multiple problems,
including long term efficacy, relapse after drug withdrawal, safety, and costs, are driving the search

However, the long term safety of biologic agents is an unresolved issue and will be addressed in a
satisfactory manner only if there is optimal use of and investment in post marketing surveillance of
these drugs, including the development of comprehensive registries of biologic drugs (Gladman et

How Does George Elliot Use Biblical Allusions In Middlemarch
George Elliot in his novel Middlemarch , makes effective use of literary devices such as biblical
allusion and imagery when regarding Miss Brooke to show the narrators attitude of admiration
towards her which then turns to pity, conveying Miss Brooke s fall from a heavenly stance.
Dorothea s detailed description is made vivid by the use of biblical allusions and imagery. Elliot
writes about Dorothea s beauty compared to the beauty in which the Blessed Virgin appeared to
Italian painters; (lines 4 5). The Virgin Mary is a saint; therefore, by comparing Dorothea to a
saint, it shows that she is perfect in the eyes of the narrator. Elliot continues the Biblical allusions in

The Importance Of A Special Needs Student
Imagine walking into a classroom the students are working in groups while off to the side one of
the teachers is holding down a screaming student who is thrashing around trying to bite and scratch
the teacher and themselves. How would a person react to this? This is not an uncommon occurrence
when dealing with children who have special needs. This teacher was trained to understand the
method used when working with a child who will unintentionally cause harm to themselves or
others. A parent needs to understand that unconventional methods must be used with children who
learn unconventionally. This research will show readers that each student needs their own
educational methods, which work around any special needs they may have. Schools have
developed parent training that will help parents understand each child. With this research, parents
will be trained in the educational styles used within special education. The overall success of a
special needs student can be improved through parent training, it is vital that parents understand the
methods of their child s teachers and how they can use them to help their children succeed.

The Writer s First Line Generator Summary
The Writer s First Line Generator is a website that has some computer generated assistance if you
are writing. This week wordpress has been encouraging a daily post of flash fiction and it helped
me identify a direction I could take to write my flash fiction post of two days ago.
However, yesterday I went back to the site to see if I could mine it more for inspiration. It
suggested an introduction very, very similar to my post of the twenty fifth. This is what it had for
me:
The afternoon when my brother murdered his wife, I became a millionaire s tailor.
I was unhappy that what seemed promising to get some flash fiction rolling was quickly becoming
redundant.
Frankly, this sentence seems a little strange; it was refreshing to have a jump off point two days
ago for flash fiction, but the same general composition would likely result if I went from there.
However, tonight, I m thinking about it, and suddenly I realize I can go to the Content Creation
Tool below.
Basically, Spinbot alters a composition so that a substantial numbers of words among the whole of
the piece are turned into different words. The result is amusing, somewhat ... Show more content on

The mogul by necessity becomes less important and interesting than the less powerful character,
the tailor. The mogul s behaviour is less important overall than the tailor s behaviour, because the
story is that of events in the tailor s life as they relate to he or she (and entertain the reader).
Whereas in reality a mogul might have more of an impact than the life of a tailor, in fiction that
tailor may be more clearly defined as the protagonist and therefore of greater relevance to the story
going forward from the introduction suggested by the Writer s Line Generator. A reader could well
be moved more by circumstances in the life of a tailor if the reader is involved in the

The Republic Of Texas, Texas Essay
The Republic Of Texas From March 2, 1836 to February 19, 1846, Texas as its own independent

Texasits independence which resulted in conflicts between that of Texas and Mexico that went on

independent country in 1837 but failed to append their land. Later receiving its independence,
Texas elected a Congress of fourteen senators and twenty nine representatives in the month of

everybody living in Texas. Not everybody had legal rights to reside within the limits of the

Opinions towards Imperialism in Antigua in the Novel, A...
In the novel, A Small Place, Jamaica Kincaid expresses her opinion towards imperialism in
Antigua, which has change the way how Antiguan people live. She then talks about issues of
tourism and corruption, and how everything to the readers is your fault as she described. Kincaid
also reveals the native s view on tourism. The book is written in second person, explaining her
opinion, and the reader is spoken to directly in the book. To make more sense of this, the reader is
like a tourist whose visiting Antigua. The book starts outs having the readers introduced to Antigua
for its sight and beauty, but as the book progresses, Kincaid shows the readers how Antigua really
is. The whole setting of Antigua seemed to have gone unrepaired, living conditions are very poor,

shame and misfortune for the Antiguan people and blames the tourists, yet the tourist doesn t really

Examples Of Feminism In Trifles
A woman is human. She is not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, more creative, or more
responsible than a man. Likewise, she is never less. Equality is a given. A woman is human
(Nazarian, V., The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration.). Today in most of the countries, many people
think just like this quote, or have similar opinion about the genderequality. However this was not a
normal thing back in the 1880s, when Susan Glaspell, the writer of the play Trifles, lived. The
society back then followed male dominated society, and many thought that male had more values
than female. Susan Glaspell, as a writer, opposed to this flow, and included many feminist features
in her play. The play Trifles, by Susan Glaspell, reflects a strong feminist... Show more content on

They were the broken birdcage, dead canary, and wildly stitched quilt. The quilt symbolises the
bad mental condition of Mrs. Wright, the birdcage symbolises her broken heart, and the canary
symbolises herself. First of all, Mrs. Wright was alone for long period of time, because her
husband did not let her go out, and also Mrs. Hale choose not to visit her. This made her
mentally tired, and caused her to buy a canary to fill up her loneliness. However, Mr. Wright
seems to not like the bird at all, and killed it by twisting its head. This action of Mr. Wright
became the final blow for Mrs. Wright, and her heart broke. This is expressed by the broken
birdcage. Mrs. Wright decided to kill her husband in the same way he killed the canary, which is
choking him with rope. The historical background have connection to this, because Mrs. Wright
was one example of female who could not get rid of the male dominated society. Susan Glaspell
might have wrote this play to show the irony of the male dominated society. The male dominated
society (Mr. Wright) that killed all enjoyable thing in Mrs. Wright was killed by her at the last. The
play might be open ended, because if Susan wrote the specific murder, that might have disappointed
someone, and the play might not have been played at the first place. Through this play, Susan
wanted to show audiences that how ridiculous the male dominated society is, and this is one of the
points that shows the feminist aspects in this

Organisational Structure Is a More Effective Focus of Hrm
1. Introduction
Human Resource Management (HRM) has become an integral and growing area in most
business sectors, regardless of how big, or small the company or firm is. Moreover,
company s today rely heavily on HRM practices to function at peak Organisational level and
also sustain a high level of competitiveness, stability, employee satisfaction, and the overall
well being of the organisation. So where should the focus of HRM activity be? The statement

For Organisational Structure to function effectively it must have appropriate staff to manage it,
a common concern for HR managers. The management style of the organisation has a big
impact on how the firm operates and effectively on the decision making process,
communication and the overall functionality of the firm. Here, HRM activity plays a vital role
in ensuring effective interaction and understanding of two way communication both from
senior level management down the structure to lower lever subordinates and from subordinates
back to senior management. Communication is again the key to a successful organisation,
without it there is little or no interaction between work groups, which could predominantly
lead to a unorganized and dysfunctional organisation. (Gowland and Aiken, 2003, p.43) believe
there is a strong need for a structure that is pro active rather than reactive in its management
style , that encourages independent decision making and places emphasis on high levels of
communication.
If there happens to be a problem within the organisation, structural modifications may not
be the most appropriate means of correcting it. Within an organisation there is structure, but
flowing through this structure is Organisational Culture. These customs, beliefs, practices,
traditions, values and ideologies ( Nankervis, Compton and Baird, 2002, p. 57 ) set,

The Most Important Event in My Life Essay example
The Most Important Event in my Life
The most important event in my life, didn t even happen to myself, but happened to my older
sister, Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her
and the things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life
used to be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the
same since then.
It all started out when my very shy, self conscious sister didn t really fit in well. She was 16,
chubby and had very few friends. One day Becky s best friend Debbie introduced her to 19 year old

Abnormal Psychology And Oppression
Looking at the course title, Abnormal Psychology, I expected to learn about mental illnesses,
including the dynamics of schizophrenia and the perpetual spiral of depression. On the first day

expected. Instead of what I had previously thought about individuals being abnormal, I had to shift
my way of thinking to question whether it was the people who were abnormal, or whether the
society itself was the problem. Through insightful readings, discussions, and lectures I have
developed my own opinions on the impact of oppression; how to think about mental disorders; and

Culture is defined as the parts of individual identity one participates in by choice or force in the
society in which they live. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society.
Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism,
ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay
Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold
or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces
and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s
mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of
people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the
overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most
prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role
behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1).
People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which
leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them
frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm
is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label
of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression,
its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different
cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to be
relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society

Essay On Strong Interest Inventory
Everyone has their own interests and values that they would like to pursue and continue to
follow throughout their life. Although many people share common characteristics in interests,
we are all our own different individuals which can be demonstrated in our personality and
choices. The Strong Interest Inventory, SII, depicts these difference by assigning individuals a
code based on the decisions made on the test. The code assigned to me was AIS, which means
that my top three themes were artistic, investigative and social, in that order. In all honesty, I
was not surprised by my results because they were almost identical to the code I received when I
took the Kuder assessment back in UNI 150. Back then I got a tie between my social and art, but
still had investigative so I had a code of S/AI. I think the code of AIS describes me well due to
my love of the arts really taking a big part of me personally, along with my strong level of
knowledge in math and science. Although I am not the most social individual, I do enjoy working

some of the factors contributing to the rural poverty in Nigeria.
Neglect of agriculture:
Before the discovery of oil in Nigeria, agriculture used to be the main sources of revenue and
foreign exchange earning for government but regrettably this has been neglected. And since this is
the major occupation of the rural people, their income has been the decline ever since.
Neglect of infrastructure:
There has been a deliberate neglect of infrastructure facilities in the rural areas. Basic amenities
such as road network, piped water, primarily health care centers, electricity, schools etc are all
contributing factors to the rural poverty.
Lack of poverty programme coordination:
Various levels of government are claiming to be doing one thing or the other to reduce the suffering
of the rural dwellers; the Federal, the State, and the Local government, but lack of proper
coordination of their programmes make the impact not be felt by the rural community.
Lack of government commitment:

will explore the origin and development of the Global Positioning System, as well as analyze
various uses of this system. Some of the practices include Military use, surveillance of those
convicted of violent crimes, tracking of wildlife, and location based services as it applies to the
Cellular Communications Industry. This paper will also explore the reality of the Global

Moore state, The launch of the Low Earth orbit satellite, Sputnik 1, by the USSR (Soviet Union)
on October 4th, 1957 may possibly mark the beginning of Global Positioning System (GPS)
Technology (Kumar Moore, 2002, p. 59). Scientist working for the Department of Defense
(DOD) discovered that they could track Sputnik 1 based on the signal strength of its radio. This
in turn led scientist to theorize, that it would be possible to obtain one s position on earth by
interpreting a satellites radio signal, with the satellites orbit (Kumar Moore, 2002). In 1964, the
first successful test of acquiring a location based on satellite technology, was successfully
performed by the United States Navy utilizing a submarine. According to Kumar and Moore, It
required only one satellite but, for that reason, a reading could only be taken roughly every 35 45
minutes. The submarine had to be stationary (Kumar Moore, 2002, p. 61). This test was the
precursor to what we now know as the Global Positioning

Drug Decriminalization
The Alcohol and other drug (AOD) field is dynamic and fluid and is constantly being shaped by
a variety of forces (The Department of Health, 2004). Illicit drug use is a widespread issue
around the world, posturing significant social and economic costs to the health care system,
justice department and social welfare systems in both developing and developed countries
(Damrongplasit, Hsiao, Zhao, 2012). Criminal Justice and addictive drugs have been tangled in
Australia and internationally for a century or more. Ever since the addictive and destructive
properties were discover within certain drugs, officials have declared the production, distribution,
sale and possession of drugs to be illegal (Sherman Valenta, 2015). Throughout this article, there
will be a focus on firstly, drug legislation and decriminalisation with a focus on marijuana,
followed by harm minimisation Firstly, Drug related crimes take up a large portion of the work of
police, prisons and the courts (Ritter, 2017) In many countries, including Australia, the issue of
varying the laws regarding marijuana use has received growing attention in the media and the
scientific community (Lenton Ovenden, 1996). There have been many discussions made in favor
for and against the legalization and/or decriminalization of drugs. The legalization of drugs means,
you are able to acquire, possess and use the said drug without criminal charges (Clausen, 2016)
while Decriminalization can be defined as a reduction of

Osteosarcoma Case Studies
Osteosarcoma, deriving form primitive bone forming mesenchymal cells, is the most common
primary bone malignancy[1]. The incidence rates of osteosarcoma has a bimodal age distribution.
It typically occurs during adolescence and has the second peak in older adulthood[2]. There is
variability in location between age groups, but usually the osteosarcoma occurs most frequently in
long bones. The etiology of osteosarcoma is currently being studied but still not well
understood[3]. Several studies showed that age, gender and height are risk factors for
osteosarcoma[4]. The overall survival (OS) of osteosarcoma has been improved significantly
because of effective chemotherapycombination[5]. Studies showed that complete surgical resection
with addition of chemotherapy has increased the 5 year OS to approximately 70%[5], but
improvements in osteosarcoma survival during the last decade have been limited[6].... Show more

The Things They Carried A Soldiers Sweetheart Essay
Difference Between Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong amp; A Soldier s Sweetheart
Once a successful novel hits the market, producers are inclined to adapt the story into a movie.
Since imagination, symbolism, and character psyches are explored in a novel, the movies tend to
lack the luster of the original text. Using their imagination, readers are able to conjure up
characters and scenes that are unique. This is the case with Tim O Brien s, Sweetheart of the Song
Tra Bong. This is a story where love and war collide after a soldier brings his sweetheart to his
Vietnamese post. On the whole, this chapter in The Things They Carried is far superior to the film,
The Soldier s Sweetheart, because it has thorough descriptions of characters ... Show more content

She wanted to learn more about how to shoot a gun. She wanted to be like one of the guys. The
novel installs all these ideas, but it also allows the reader to use their creativity. It also gives more
emphasis on little traits of the character that make the character more unique. Therefore, due to the
film s inability to give audiences more information about the characters, their role and their
emotions, the novel is much more informative.
The novel is capable of giving readers more insight into the story with the use of symbols and
hidden meanings. It is able to do this because it depicts important underlying messages and
incidents. For instance, in the novel one may realize that Mary Anne starts to wear a necklace
with tongues on it. This shows the readers that Mary Anne is no longer than clean innocent girl.
She is now a brutal solder always ready to kill. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened
leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one overlapping the next, the
tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable (O Brien 111). Portrayed in both the novel
and movie is Mary Anne s change in personal hygiene. No cosmetics, no fingernail filing. She
stopped wearing jewelry, cut her hair short and wrapped

An Organization For A Volunteer Program
Throughout these three final weeks of the course we focused on three particular topics that
emphasised and expands on community development. These three topics were Module s 10 look at
Organizations and their Nonprofit associated organizations, Volunteerism which is taken from
Module 8; that as a community developer I would argue and recommend that every organization
and institution needs to have volunteer program. The application of these above topics in an
organization can increase [Module 7 s] Entrepreneurial Leadership, which in turn impacts the
Economic Developmentof the community and society at large.

The condition is the capacity to facilitate continuous exploration and idea generation (Jelinek and
Litterer, 1995, in Gupta et al., 2004 p.244). One must note that economic development is necessary
for community growth and sustainability. Development implies insights, which are purposeful and
are meant to be permanent and was said to influence community choices.
Each person who decides to volunteer, do not only contribute to the community they reside or work,
but also for the organizations who enlisted the aid of such persons. An establishment that uses

benefits will transcend an establishments to the [a] neighbourhoods their employees reside or where

Human Security And National Security
Too often, the notion/concept of national security is misinterpreted and made too narrow. It s a
common belief of many that national security only entails the protection of states borders from
outside threats. In recent times, this seems to not be the case, since the dangers that states faces
now threatens the life of the individual, therefore, protection of the citizens, their wellbeing, and the
laws of the land becomes a priority which links it or makes it human security. States like the US are
adjusting their foreign policies to fit this new human security as national security approach. Also,
with the world becoming a small global village, states are using less military force to settle
dispute. They are reducing the amount of violence they use against one another. Everyone seems
to be embracing the notion of peace rather than war and I believe this is so because nations do not
want to go back to the hostility and instability of the Cold Warera. Using the United Statesforeign
policies (past and current) regarding terrorism, I will be analyzing how they fit or do not fit into the
spectrum of human security as national security.
According to Roland Paris, human security does not have one explicit definition. Different nations
and organization define this concept differently; each according to its view, policies, interests, and
goals. Paris compared the concept to standard developmental goals, in the sense that though most (if
not all) nations desire it, only a few knows

The Blockbuster store, a fixture of many American neighborhoods for 25 years, will all but

Dish, which bought the Blockbuster video rental chain out of bankruptcy in 2011, said it would
close the roughly 300 remaining stores it owns by early January. About 50 stores in the U.S.
operated by franchisees, and more overseas, will remain open. The closures, which Dish said will
cost the jobs of about 2,800 employees, signal the end of an era in the entertainment industry, the
latest example of how brick and mortar chains are being displaced by digital competitors. From its
origins in the 1980s, when consumers still considered renting and watching movies at their

William Brickman and Paulo Freire
William Brickman and Paulo Freire were two famous educators that brought their own ideas and
contributions to the education field. They shared some similarities, differences, challenges, and an
overall positive impact on education that is with us today.
The contribution of Brickman and Freire
Brickman s Contribution
Brickman thought it was essential to have comparative education, which is the idea that
professionals in the education field be exposed to different cultures, living in a different country,
learning to speak the language, sharing and gaining knowledge with their counterparts, and gaining
insight in the diversity of education.( Silova Brehm,2010) Brickman founded the Comparative
education society. He set up the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bank concept is the concept that teachers teach what they want and the learners listen, teachers
decide what they will teach and what the learner will learn. Dialogue is the term used to describe a
mutual respect of teaching and learning, where both parties contribute and have a mutual respect
for one another. (Flanagan, 2005)
Similarities between Brickman and Freire
Both men were raised in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods. Brickman was raised in the Lower
East side of New York, where he was exposed to a variety of multilingual languages, media, and
parents who spoke a variety of languages. Brickman as a young child was exposed to different
cultures and history. (Silova Brehm, 2010). Freire s family found themselves in financial crisis
after the Wall Street crashed in 1929 and his father took a financial loss that resulted in the family
moving to a lower socioeconomic area in Brazil. (Flanagan, 2005). This financial crisis allowed
Freire to witness firsthand the poverty of the peasants and the effect it had on their education.
(Flanagan, 2005). The similarities of both educators living in poor conditions seemed to be a
motivator for both men s contribution to the education field.
The differences between Brickman and Freire
Brickman focused on comparative education, and promoting the idea of professionals in education
to travel around the world and learn about different countries and their

The Age Of Enlightenment, And Social Revolutions
The Age of Enlightenment attacked the churches on issues which have been continuously going
on in the past. Which sparked the revolutions, and created a drastic change in the way the people
were governed. The colonists demanded a change in their social structures because they were tired
of absolute monarchies, which were selfish and believed in the divine right to rule. Meaning that
their power was specifically given to them by God. Most rulers did little to nothing to actually
make a beneficial change for the people and instead invested most of their time to themselves,
rather than using the time to create new ways to get rid of economic crises. This lead for their
people to become extremely needy and used any chance of help that came to them. The
Enlightenment was a period of both hardships and social growth, which made the people s
perspectives towards the world different, and spreaded Ideas which created Revolutions and made
philosophers come up with different ways of reasoning and influenced the Enlightenment in almost
everything they did the outcome reshaped the world and them a voice. Many philosophers who
heavily influenced the Enlightenment ideas which sparked the revolution, caused people to think
for themselves. A philosopher named John Lockestudied human reasoning and agreed that people
were indeed reasonable and moral. Locke s ideas on people having natural rights, which were
rights that he thought were to be given to all people and shouldn t be taken away

Computer systems are classified on the basis of CPU, storage capacity, I/O capacity, and number of
users simultaneously using a system, and an application software.
Classes of computer systems:
Microcomputer
Portable
Midrange computer
Mainframe
Supercomputer
1)Microcomputer:
It is a small sized relatively cheap computer with a microprocessor and a CPU.
It can also be known as a Personal computer or a workstation.
It is a computer with less capacity and capability less than a minicomputer.
Specially in the 1970s and 80s with the advent microcomputers became popular in the 1970s and

Mac Vs Apple
In the realm of computer systems, there exists only only two realistic choices, the Macintosh or
Personal Computer. This debate has been raging since the late 1970 s when the original Macintosh
hit the market. Although both bear similarities and differences, no obvious winner emerged in over
30 years of conflict. When it comes to a final decision of purchasing one or the other, certain factors
should be taken into account. Three key factors when purchasing a new computersystem are; price,
hardware, and application software.
Affordability of Personal Computers can range from forty dollars to tens of thousands depending
on the hardware used to build the system. Very low end PC models, such as the Raspberry Pi, can

Intel and AMD are the main producers of processor chips, which serve as the brain of the
computer. They can range in the number of cores; 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10, and speeds varying of 1
to 4 Gigahertz. Both companies offer a total of 70 different processors for PCs. Most mid level
PC s come with 8GB of memory and can be upgraded in higher end systems to 64GB or 128GB .
Only Nvidia and AMD manufacturer video cards, collectively they offer fifteen different
options for the PC. Variety of the components existing for the PC builds is astounding, resulting
in an extensive range of manufacturers to purchase from and delivering a broader price range
for all budgets. Unlike PC s, the processor, the amount of memory, and the video card tend to be
limited when purchasing a Mac. Out of the five systems offered, the choices are restricted to nine
different Intel processors, varying in speeds from 1.6 to 3.3 GHz. All iMacs come with 8GB of
memory, compared to the standard PC. Mac Pro, the highest priced desktop comes with 16GB of
memory standard with the maximum amount being 64GB of memory. Only four AMD video cards
can used with the Mac thus limiting the user s

1920s Flappers Research Paper
The 1920s was the era of the Flapper. Young women started to cut their hair, shorten their skirts, so
that they could more easily dance the wild, flapping dances of the age (hence the term flapper ).
They drank and smoked and wore makeup, and went out with boys without a chaperone. They
played sports, golf, tennis, and swimming were all very popular. Sunbathing became popular with
womenfor the first time. Women enjoyed driving automobiles, and many women took to flying
aeroplanes.
Although many girls still went to college, the number was lower than in the pre WW1 era, and
there was a decline of interest in careers among young women. Most women worked until they got
married, but far fewer women were interested in staying single and pursuing ... Show more content

  • 3. Social Media And Its Impact On New Media The widespread use of social media and the resulting transition to a system dependent on new media has fundamentally changed the ways in which we communicate. One significant aspect of communication that has been drastically altered is the news media and their presence on social media sites such as Twitter primarily as a result of our changing interactions with and procurement of the news. Over the course of the last semester, I worked as an Assistant Producer for both Unify and Activism Media, which are sister companies. One of the most significant experiences I had during my internship was in my work as a journalist for Activism Media. I was assigned to cover the public s responses to the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests following the failure to indict both Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantaleo (also known as the Shut it Down protests). My experiences during this assignment illustrated a number of theoretical concepts in the media studies field chiefly: citizen journalism, agenda setting, and framing. The creation of the printing press and news media significantly altered the world s ability to communicate. Many scholars have argued that with the printing press came a transformation of the public sphere and the public s ability to discuss and identify societal issues. JГјrgen Habermas, a German sociologist and philosopher, posits that early modern capitalism created conditions for this bourgeois public sphere to emerge. Numerous conditions permitted ... • 4. Vyse And Waller Vyse and a new Partnership The evolving partnership of Charles Vyse and Barbara Waller (1949 1951) would prove to be exacting and industrious. Working at the Cheyne Row studio they produced a number of animal and figure models, alongside a range of Chinese inspired high fired, ash glazed stoneware vessels. Whether by design or accident, much of the figurative work of Vyse and Waller partnership, would in the future, prove problematical for collectors. However, at this remove, it is difficult to attribute some figures and vessels, either jointly or individually. Furthermore, it is impossible to assign specific tasks, such as modelling, decorating, and glazing, to either of the partners. To compound the conflict of attribution, there are occasions when both Vyse and Waller have exhibited the same figure, individually signed, and again, as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also an explanation of the rationale of a relatively small period collaborative work, exhibited singly and jointly by Vyse and Waller, will involve the reader in a certain amount of time travelling. It would appear that such was the working relationship of Vyse and Miss Waller that they thought little of interpreting each other s work as they saw to be artistically appropriate. For instance, in the illustration Fig. 168, Miss Waller appears to be working on the clay model of a Shire horse. However, archived in the modern ceramic collection of the V A museum is a Temmoku glazed stoneware edition of this same Shire horse, which has inscribed on the base, Charles Vyse/Barbara Waller/Chelsea/1950. Therefore, it is fair to assume, therefore, the edition of Shire horse, conserved in the modern ceramic collection of the V A, Vyse had retained the moulds of original model by Waller, and after it had been slip cast and fired to the biscuit state, it was Temmoku ... • 6. Essay about Big Business In The Gilded Age The late 19th century and early 20th century, dubbed the Gilded Age by writer Mark Twain, was a time of great growth and change in every aspect of the United States, and even more so for big business. It was this age that gave birth to many of the important modern business practices we take for granted today, and those in charge of business at the time were considered revolutionaries, whether it was for the good of the people or the good of themselves. The exact period of time in which the Gilded Ageoccurred is ever debatable, but most historians can at least agree that it started within the 20 years after the Civil War ended and lasted until the early 1920s. (West) The Gilded Age itself was characterized by the beginnings of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This law forced the railroads to report to the federal government before making important decisions like how much to charge customers. The railroad companies were outraged and used the defense that their monopolies were almost automatically formed, but there was nothing they could do since the law was federal. (Moritz 19 24, 28) Telegraph grids were another technological advancement of the Gilded Age. For the first time in history, transcontinental communication was possible. People could now find out about news from across the nation within minutes of it happening, instead of days as it sometimes took before. Businesses took advantage of this by building plants and factories all across the country, hiring managers for each individual outfit, and communicating among each location with ease. (Sinclair 75) Telegraph lines were also a nurturing point for one of the most famous business tycoons of the Gilded Age, Andrew Carnegie. (Carnegie 653) Carnegie not only got his start as a young Irish immigrant working as a railroad telegraph operator, his first major corporation was the Keystone Telegraph Company, in which he acquired the Pacific and Atlantic Telegraph Company. Carnegie thought of giving up on business after having moderate success, but on a trip to England in 1872, he met with Henry Bessemer and saw his plans for steel. (Carnegie ... • 7. Why Is Alexander Brongniart Important Alexander Brongniart s earliest scientific papers was accepted in 1791 was on various zoological and mineralogical. In 1804 Pierre Latreille elevated the batrachians into a separate class, the amphibians, Brongniart s grouping of the true reptiles into chelonians, saurians, and ophidians has been retained, in essence, in modern systematics. In 1807 Brongniart published Elementary mineralogy Treaty, a work assigned as a textbook for his and HaГјy s courses at the Faculty of Sciences and the Natural History Museum. Like other mineralogists at this time, he could not easily distinguish some fine grained rocks from true simple minerals. Brongniart s early studies in zoology and mineralogy coalesced in the geological work that made him famous throughout the scientific world. Cuvier had already begun his series of spectacular reconstructions of extinct mammals from the Paris region; these fossils clearly belonged to several distinct periods, but he needed a reliable clue to their relative ages. He and Brongniart therefore collaborated in surveying the region and determining the order of the strata in which the fossils ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this extension of Tertiary stratigraphy over a wider geographical area posed the fundamental problem of geological facies. Rocks of the same age could not be expected to have the same lithological characters if they were deposited under different conditions in different areas. Even within the Paris region Brongniart had recognized lateral changes in lithology; on a wider scale the changes became more general. It was this that led him to stress the primacy of fossil evidence over that of lithology as a criterion for age, wherever the two sources of evidence were found to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The country s religion sways back and forth from Catholicism and Protestantism due to the reigns of Henry s legitimate children: Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. In 1485, Henry VII became the King of England when he killed King Richard III in battle. Henry VII had two legitimate sons named Arthur and Henry to inherit the throne when he dies. Arthur married at the age of nine to Catherine Aragon, the Spanish Princess, who was fourteen at the time. Once the marriage was approved, Henry decided he needed an heir to the throne. At the time, women were not rulers of countries and therefore they did not inherit the throne. Catherine had two boys, but both of them died either within seven days or was stillborn. She ended up having one surviving child, a girl named Mary. It will begin with a summary of the short story. Afterwards the plot, the conflict and the setting will be analyzed. Then I ll move on to the characterization, the possible surprise ending and the theme and message. Finally I will draw parallels between the short story Reunion and the essay Living With Strangers by Siri Hustvedt. Reunion is a short story about a boy called Charlie and his last interaction with his father. Charlie was travelling by train from his grandmother s to a cottage his mother had rented. The characters are directly told about by the narrator for example in this part of the text I smelled my father the way my mother sniffs a rose. He remains being a jerk, while Charlie is a round character as he develops throughout the story. At first he is excited to see his father again, but he ends up not wanting to ever see him again. We are dealing with a first person narrator, who in this story is the protagonist. The ending could be seen as a surprise ending since Charlie starts being excited to see his father but ends up saying Goodbye and never wanting to see him again. On the other hand it isn t really surprising, as the father throughout the story seems very unpleasant and maybe even embarrassing to be around. It is a case of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Case Of William Potter Introduction Many workers are presented with ethical dilemmas every single day. In the case of William Potter, a conflict of interest arose as he thought about promoting his son, Henry, to CEO of the family company. Knowing he could not make an objective decision, he went to a loyal, trusted employee, Jill, to do an objective review of Henry for him. This then put Jill in an ethical dilemma of her own. Though she knows that Henry is doing a great job in his current position in Miami, she also experienced him propositioning her a few years back, consequently making her life miserable. This conflict forces her to think about the good of the company as well as her own good, making for a very tough and tolling decision on how to review Henry. In order to decide what action Jill should take, both consequentialist and deontological theories should be considered and applied to her situation. Consequentialism According to consequentialist theory, morality is entirely based on the results of your actions, or all of the consequences that come from doing something (Haines, n.d.). In Jill s case, whatever she decides to do will likely have both positive and negative consequences. For example, Jill truly believes that Henry has done a great job with the company in his current position, and therefore if she recommends making him CEO, he could make the company successful on a much greater level. However, if she were to do this, she would put herself in the uncomfortable position of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maria overheard Jessie reveal how she really felt about her. Maria thought, What?! Me, judgemental, arrogant and demanding? How nasty of her! Later at the change rooms before sports she heard, from behind the cubical door, the girls banter, Have you heard what happened to Maria? ...she always a bit of a show pony though. Maria always believed that real friends say good things behind your back and bad things to your face, but this was the other way around. These were fake friends who were like shadows who followed you in the sun but left you in the dark. First is the task of finding how to survive, a job, maintaining ones house, the responsible things. Second is cooperating and being civil as well as respectful to society. Third are intimate relationships, having children, friends, a spouse. All three of these were crucial to being a normally functioning person in society (Lafountain, 2010). Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society. Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism, ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1). People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression, its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different cultures consider it. It s a common belief of many that national security only entails the protection of states borders from outside threats. In recent times, this seems to not be the case, since the dangers that states faces now threatens the life of the individual, therefore, protection of the citizens, their wellbeing, and the laws of the land becomes a priority which links it or makes it human security. States like the US are adjusting their foreign policies to fit this new human security as national security approach. Also, with the world becoming a small global village, states are using less military force to settle dispute. They are reducing the amount of violence they use against one another. Everyone seems to be embracing the notion of peace rather than war and I believe this is so because nations do not want to go back to the hostility and instability of the Cold Warera. Using the United Statesforeign policies (past and current) regarding terrorism, I will be analyzing how they fit or do not fit into the spectrum of human security as national security. According to Roland Paris, human security does not have one explicit definition.
