Significance Of Marco Polo s Voyages
Explain the significance of Marco Polo s voyages to the East for our understanding of world history.
The silk routes, has for many centuries, connected the world through a series of overland and maritime
routes reaching from China, India, the Middle East and Europe. One of the most significant narratives
of the voyage is told through Marco Polo, who had a significant impact on the relationship between
the east and Europe and on world history. Polo s voyages vastly enhanced European knowledge about
the east in both a cultural, technological and materialistic sense. Most significantly, Polo s detailed
narrative inspired new travel and trade to Asia, which further deepened the connections and
communications between Europe and the rest of Asia. Overall, Marco Polo s voyages encouraged a
need for a greater knowledge outside of Europe and inspired a ....
World history is the study of direct and indirect interconnections, interdependencies and linkages of
states, civilizations, cultures, religions and race. The study of world history allows historians to
inspect history on a wider scope, transcending state and ecological boundaries, to analyse the impacts
of social, political and economic exchanges globally. World history allows an understanding of global
differences and conflicts. This reveals the changes and continuities and the long term causes and
effects of the contacts and connections between humans, thus, revealing global trends and patterns in
society. This challenges the

Paradise Lost Religion
Satan, still within the body of the serpent, offers Eve a multitude of reasons why she should eat from
the Tree of Knowledge, despite God s warnings. He tells her the fruit will not kill her as God says, for
he ate of the fruit and is not only alive, but made even more powerful. In his most prevalent argument,
Satan attempts to demonstrate to Eve that the act of eating has the ability to become a transformative
experience. Though ultimately true, the transformation that Satan describes occurs far differently than
the one she and Adam actually receive. In Christianity, food acts as such a significant force that Satan
can almost seamlessly trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Food and eating is so powerful
throughout theology, that Eve can effortlessly envision its potential as a vehicle to transform her from
an earthly human to a god like being. Upon Eve s initial consumption of the illicit fruit, one of her
leading thoughts becomes that the fruit may render me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story of creation expressed in Paradise Lost , Milton depicts how food can act as a way to
transform a person of innocence into one defined largely by depravity. Within his story, Milton
communicates the fall of man through the act of consumption. Reversely, man s ability to achieve
redemption is also profoundly contingent on food. In religiously sanctioned eating, such as the Holy
Communion, food can act to aid one s relationship with God. By participating in the Eucharist and
other godly ways of consumption, man becomes able to rebuild and restore the relationship with God
that became corrupt after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge. In Christian faith,
everything hinges on God s interpretation. If God gives a regulation, whether that regulation present
itself in the form of food or not, man s level of ability and willingness to follow that decree largely
defines his spiritual

Existing structures; vibrations and excavation from construction will have an effect on existing
structures, as they are sensitive. Therefore damage to the structures can occur if proper measures and
ground investigations are not carried out. If the soil is compressible it can cause subsidence to adjacent
surface structures. Physical conditions of existing structures should be obtained and laboratory tests
taken to provide information, which is clear about the behaviour of the surrounding structures.

This is also to avoid having to change the design during construction resulting in delays and increased
costs. For this project a ground investigation survey was carried out between 10 June and 26 July. This
involved the excavation mechanically and by hand of trial pits and the drilling of exploratory holes.
Selected samples from the tests were collected to assess the presence of contamination and
geotechnical characteristics. Based on the ground investigation, potential for significant contamination
is considered low due to a lack of mobile contaminants that could potentially be released to the
environment. In addition the assessment carried out to find if groundwater, and surface water features
would not significant effect on soils or geology. (Highway agency 2015). Geotechnical design for

contaminated zones from one another. Interlocking piles are driven into the ground through the
unsaturated zone and the aquifer down into consolidated zone. The piles remaining above ground are
cut off after driving the barrier into the consolidated material. Fine granulated soil particles fill up the
gaps between the steel sheets. The weight of a building is transmitted to the ground through its
foundation when it is being constructed and this added stress to the underlying strata. The stresses

How Did The Reconstruction Era Affect America Today
The reconstruction era was a time that then affected America in positive facets and negative aspects as
well, and still affects America today. Thanks to the reconstruction era, there are several
implementations that geared the world on the path in which it is today. Had it not been for some of the
laws that were set in place African Americans may have not had many of the opportunities that were
presented during the reconstruction period, therefore the years of oppression and cruelty might still be
present. Arguably one of the greatest contributions during the reconstruction era was the thirteenth
amendment. This is the amendment that formally abolished the cruel and unjust acts of slavery in
1865. The thirteenth amendment states Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a
punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United
States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction (Primary documents in American History). The
ratification came eight months after the end of the war, but it represented the culmination of the
struggle against slavery. When the war began, some in the North were against fighting what they saw
as a crusade to end slavery. Although many northern Democrats and conservative Republicans were
opposed to slavery s expansion, they were ambivalent about outlawing the institution entirely (13th
amendment ratified). This statement is proof that although the North was opposed to slavery they were

Volkswagen dirties it s hands in emissions scandal
A car is spewing deadly carbon dioxide, forty times more than the car next to you. Piling onto many
recent scandals in Europe, Germany s Volkswagen has cheated emissions tests. The scandal has
sparked enormous stifle across the world and turmoil in the company. The Volkswagen company
started when Adolf Hitler gave the order to have the small middle class car to be produced. VW
produced the Beetle in the 1930s to much of Germany s population. After the end of the third Reich,
Volkswagen spread and became a large job creator in Germany as well as an international brand
(Morning Edition). Volkswagen prioritization of the European market, led them to bet their future on
green tech chips and diesel engines. This is in contrary to the moves of many other car makers, who
are pursuing electric cars in the American market. The American market thought of diesel engines as
secondary and insignificant (Ziegler). The Environmental Protection Agency s Tier ii emissions
standards had high bars for diesel emissions that would be extremely difficult to reach. There was a
heavy burden for Volkswagen s engineers to create a quantum leap in the diesel engine in terms of
emissions and fuel economy. To cut these emissions Volkswagen would need to use an effective but
bulky and expensive system in its cars. However cheating the emissions tests would be fairly easy due
to the lack of

Did country, blues and jazz evolve stylishly
It Is difficult to define what exactly music is in today s standards you can quite easily offend anyone.
However, there Is truth behind the fact that music is constantly changing as when it changed decades
leading up to the age of rock, soul and hip hop influencing genres. In ten years time, there will
potentially be different music.
However the discussion I will discuss is styles of country, blues and jazz and how it evolved.
Honky Tonk
The key Artists for Hony tonk are Hank Williams, Webb Piece, Lefy Frizzell and Hank Thompson
Honky tonk was described as a style of music which was popular during the 1950s and early 1960s
how it evolved is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bebop
Bebop emerged in the 1940s carrying on from the popular sub genre Big Band. However, it was very
different in style from its predecessor it usually consisted of around four to six musicians Bebop was
seen as something you could not dance to using complicated melody s and chord progressions the
vocal style was called scat where unrecognisable syllables are sung to improvise the melody.

Comparing Two Adverts
Smoking has a dramatic impact on many Victorians. Two ads that are trying to address the issue are
Vic Health Will your kids go through the agony and Quit Line s Should have been there . They are
trying to stop parents smoking and position them to quit for their kids. Quit Line is an organisation
that has been running since early 1970. Vic health on the other hand has been running since 1987. The
contention of Should have been there is for the parents to stop smoking so they do not miss out on
things with their kids. The intention is to stop smoking so the viewers can spend as much time as
possible with their kids. Whereas the contention of Will your kids go through the agony is to get the
audience to stop and think about their kids and how will they go if the viewer passes away from
smoking the intention is for the audience to stop smoking so for the kids sake. ... Show more content

They both are targeting the same audience (parents). They highlight and emphasise the point that kids
have to go through the pain just as much as the adult. They both use music to make the audience feel
what they are going through. When these two ads use sad music, it is trying to make the audience s
emotions come into play so that they feel as though they are in that situation and they are truly
saddened about what is going on with that family. They both demonstrate and reinforce the fact that
everyone is affected by just one person smoking in the family. The contention is very similar because
they are both stating that the person will miss out on things with their kids. Again, these ads are very
similar and are each are trying to say something about how parents smoking can lead to them missing

The Value Of Symbolic Analysts
The Value of Symbolic Analysts
Robert Reich categorizes America s workforce into three distinct groups, routine producers, in person
servers, and symbolic analysts. Reich defines the first two groups as principally manual laborers, and
the third group as people who work and create value using their minds. This would include
occupations such as engineers, attorneys, scientists, professors, executives, et al. Symbolic analysts
are objectively and quantifiably more valuable than the other two groups combined. To establish an
operational definition of value, we recognize value as the amount of revenue and/or opportunities an
individual provides. The reason symbolic analysts command much more wealth and are inherently
more valuable than the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They argue that without them, the CEOs would not have a working company to run. While the union
workers are technically not mistaken, they are however neglecting a number of factors, the first being
that an individual s compensation is directly correlated with the amount of value that the individual
brings to the corporation. When we break down the responsibilities of a lowly sales associate, their
only task is to assist customers in purchasing items. An executive manages everything from
negotiating with suppliers, organizing facilities, creating new departments, delegating tasks to
aforementioned departments, et al. The real value that executives add to the company is exponentially
greater than that of the average worker; this fact is quantifiable. Another issue that union workers do
not take into consideration is the fact that sales associates and other manual laborers in a broader sense
are largely expendable, as such is the nature of a low skill job. The fact of the matter is that the
minimum wage workers need their CEO more than their CEO needs them. The brutal reality is that if
workers are unsatisfied with their wages the executives can simply replace them with people that are
satisfied, leading us to the issue of scarcity and surplus of labor supply.
The issue of scarcity is a basic concept in the study of economics, and furthers contributes to the value
of symbolic analysts. Reich discusses how demand for symbolic analysts grows with the advent

High School, Collegiate, And Professional Activities
In my first essay, I took a deeply cynic position against competition. But, as discussed by Shields,
maybe I have not seen true competition. Perhaps what I have viewed in high school, collegiate, and
professional activities is actually decompetition (n.d.). Decompetition is like competition, but it
primarily promotes the worst attributes in athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.).
Regardless, over the course of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold a
neutral view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is
inherently good either. The game of jacks played today was the most pivotal activity in the shift of my
opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of working individually, so one of us
could triumph over the others, we worked together to find the best strategies and methods. Every time
someone threw their handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best way to gather the
jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and cheered when someone did
the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and new; we used each other s perspectives
to figure it out. During our first game, for instance, Amanda received zero points, and I only won ten.
But, by game two, Amanda and I, through trial and error and the feedback from the others, sharpened
our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was fairly happy with my success,

No matter what she interpreted by moving off and going to New Orleans she was doomed as soon as
she stepped off the Desire streetcar. Her plan to be reinvented as a new innocent, desirable and
respectful woman was truly a dream. She was misunderstood especially by Stanley and because of his
misunderstanding it motivated him to punish and destroy her. Blanche was described as a flirt, and a
home wrecker also a manipulative, desperate woman who craved attention from the wrong things and
lost her family fortune Belle Reve . She is a social pariah due to her indiscreet sexual behavior. She
spent so long lying to everyone she actually began to believe her own lies. This is shown when she

William often condemned the environment that brought about Blanche s tragic circumstances. William
pointed out how the character Blanche DuBois was a washed up Southern Belle. Blanche life was not

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Nightmare By Sherman Alexie
In this quote, Alexie uses foreshadowing as a literary device. Flashbacks show what is important in the
past and how it reflects the future. While Thomas and Victor were/are kids they got into a fight and
stopped talking. Now Thomas is helping Victor. Although this is a flashback, it may also be
interpreted as a hint of Victor and Thomas being friends again and help each other. Alexie is trying to
tell his readers, even though you may have fought in the past, that doesn t mean you need to not care
for each other. I really like this idea because I believe it is what everyone should do. Be there for them.
If I were Victor, at this point I would say sorry to Thomas for not talking to him and be better friends
with him that they were before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I really like this idea because it makes you pay attention and really understand the novel. Alexie uses
allegory in the quote demonstrating how James s voice acts as a savior. He refers to his voice to a
thick rug to save even the most beautiful and delicate things. I believe the author uses this to show that
James may be about to help Victor or maybe be with his as a fallback just like how he caught the glass
with his voice. This also reflects off of the theme of being spiritual. Alexie might be trying to just
show how Indians really were or are. I really don t understand what is happening here because it
seems to be just a whole bunch of short stories that have very little to do anything with each other. I
really dislike this idea because it just makes the whole novel seem confusing and hard to understand.
In this quote, Alexie uses symbolic as the literary device. He says the black circle looks like a smoke
hole and that is used when there is a fire. Most people get hot when mad and need to vent. I believe
the studio is more of a venting ground than anything. The author may have put this here to symbolize
how relaxing or stress reliving the Indian tipis may be for some

Analysis Of On Keeping A Notebook By Joan Didion
ON KEEPING A NOTEBOOK RHETORICAL ANALYSIS The point of keeping a notebook has
never been, nor is it now to have an accurate factual record of what I have been doing or thinking.
Author, Joan Didion, in her essay, On Keeping a Notebook explains how to keep a notebook and why.
Didion s purpose is to inform us on how she keeps a notebook and why notebooks are useful in
helping us to remember events that happened in the past. She adopts a sentimental tone in order to
emphasize how many memories are kept alive by keeping a notebook. Didion uses ethos, pathos, and
different rhetorical devices in her essay to explain her point. Didion uses ethos appeals. She explains
in the first paragraph all of her accomplishments. She is the author of novels, short stories, screen
plays, and essays. She began as a staff writer for Vogue Magazine in New York in 1956. Run River
was her first novel published in 1963. Her collection of essays includes On Keeping a Notebook ,

case, came in second to last in the bidding but won the contract for scoring best in the cost category of
the evaluation (Hunley 269). Even though safer solid rocket boosters were presented to NASA, the
booster that ultimately caused the Challenger disaster was chosen based on cost instead of safety.
In addition to controversial bidding practices the solid rocket booster had a design flaw that was
known to be an issue for years before the Challenger s final flight took place. The First flight using the
booster was in 1980 (Hunley 275). Since the boosters are recovered after every mission, by 1981
NASA could tell that the booster s segment seals were already showing signs of

Her contributions to emancipation of oppressed minorities from social restraint dates were initiated by
her successful elusion from slavery in 1827 (Smith, 1951). After moving to New York City, she
embraced evangelical religion and actively engaged in moral reforms. Having joined the Utopian
Community (which was mainly based in New York), she ventured in the preaching career, acquiring a
great deal of Biblical knowledge. Her abolitionist policies were inscribed in her entertaining and
highly instructive gospel songs that she sang as a wandering orator and famous platform figure. A year
before mandatory emancipation of slaves in New York City, Sojourner officially adopted the names
Sojourner Truth in 1843. From Brawdy s (1991) revelations, Truth proved to be a servant of the people
during the Great Civil War. She collected clothing and food for displaced populations, tramping the
isolated roads of Michigan. According to Edwards (1986), she was the first human rights activist to
confront President Abraham Lincoln at White House, where she dedicated her life and mobilized
resources to the service of freed persons. Truth s extra ordinary personality transcended her religious
beliefs and obligations. A few studies claim that during the Reconstruction Period, she resolved to sell
her personal images, photographs of her shadows as well as the narratives of her personal life to
support the integration and inclusion of freed slaves into the American

Efficacy Of Monsanto s Ethical Culture

Question 1
Efficacy of Monsanto s Ethical Culture
Ethical issues remain relevant aspects for businesses operation and competitiveness. The elements
aforesaid ensure that every firm has what it takes to connect well with the community to provide
consistent market and productive relationship with other stakeholders. Monsanto Company that was in
a tussle with the community over the production of the genetically modified products that seemed
detrimental to the society responded by creating awareness to the people about the need for
sustainable farming practices (Carroll, 2015). The company notified farmers that the world population

The capability to withstand water shortages and the havoc caused by the harvest passes makes the
plants to mature early with its productivity level being high. Regions suffering from food shortages
can only undergo starvation for short period before it can start to enjoy the food. On the other hand,
the abovementioned advantages make farmers engage in profitable farming business with the low
level of costs of farm inputs and high outputs. This aspect benefits not only the farmers but also the
population that stands to enjoy a large variety of food stuff at their disposal.
However, the use of the GM seeds for food production can quickly render a harmful impact to the
user. Lee Burrell (2002) stated, Intense concerns about the uncertain health and environmental of GM
farming have been the subject of high profile debate. The effects of GM farming on existing forms of
agriculture, raised by the prospect of cross pollination by GM seed, provoke similarly polarized views
It is common that genetic engineering process often takes place by joining different genes of plants
together to come up with a whole species of the plant. Unfortunately, this process can easily result in
coming up with plants with genes that are harmful to the consumers. Most of the genetically modified

Presentation of Phaedra and Nurse in Hippolytus
Class Civ Discuss the presentation of Phaedra and nurse in Hippolytus. How sympathetically does
Euripides present these characters? Euripides presents the characters of Phaedra and Nurse in
Hippolytus as two ends on a moral spectrum; Nurse having a pragmatic approach to the tragedy
orchestrated by Cypris while Phaedra takes the idealistic view. It s Phaedra s idealistic morals which
make her such an interesting comparison to Hippolytus as they both conceive themselves and are
portrayed as virtuous people, yet the contrast is their different perceptions of being virtuous. Yet
sympathy wise Phaedra attracts a lot more sympathy than Nurse as Euripides portrays as the start of
the play how these events are completely out of mortal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a feeling of sympathy as Nurse not only accepts Phaedra s problem (not straight away)
but seeks to solve it rather than just let Phaedra die. She says find way to control your sickness
implying that it can be controlled rather than just being lost in or denying completely. Because of her
pragmatic nature she in inclined to work around a problem rather than just seeing it in black and white
meaning that she is able to convince Phaedra that there is hope and that she doesn t have to die and
leave her children and husband. It s this that creates sympathy for Nurse as she does everything out of
a kindness for Phaedra that would be quite unusual for a slave to harbour for a noble. Even when she
does bring about Phaedra s tragedy by telling Hippolytus it is not out of anything malicious but out of
a kindness to try and resolve a difficult situation and even Phaedra recognises this when she says It
was a friend s act but not a noble one to try and cure my sickness . Presenting Nurse as not evil at all
but merely having an error of judgement making the audience sympathise with her because of her
meaning well and trying to do the right thing. In conclusion Euripides does present both characters
sympathetically but focuses more on Phaedra as for the first half of the play she seem like the tragic
heroine even though the play is named Hippolytus. Phaedra is portrayed with sympathy

Public Space Papers
I will be exploring the theme of public space first as a general concept, dissecting what the phrase
means and how it s been used in global conversation. Then, I will give a few examples of how public
space manifests itself in the world. For instance, a possible point of discussion could be the North
Carolinian act HB2 that requires individuals to use bathrooms that correspond with the sex listed on
their birth certificate, a clear discriminatory move against the trans community. Public space is a
concept integral to cities, their conception, and their development. A city is an intricate web of public
and private spaces. Navigating those spaces can be a challenge for some citizens of a city. The ever
adapting nature of the city means that, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As I have mentioned many times over, public space is so much more than just a physical area. It is a
web of complex processes and rules (written or unwritten) about who can exist where. Segregating
water fountains, relegated low income housing to certain areas, restricting trans peoples use of
bathrooms these are all clear messages that, You do not belong in this space. This space is not for you.
The personal nature of this source, being a quote from an actual trans woman who has experienced
this type of oppression, will hopefully provide both a refreshing break from the variety of academic
sources that I am including and will persuade the reader to further see the merit of the argument I am
making. Ms. Cox s appeal for equality in the interview has a strong emotional pull as well. The
implications of this restriction of public space can be devastating and my use of this interview will try
to capture that. Some keys terms that Ms. Cox uses that I intend to employ throughout my Literature

Task 1 Health Indicators Of Wellbeing
Task 1:
Question 1 Health indicators of wellbeing
My question is:
If life expectancy is high in a given country will the income or GDP per person also be high
The two indicators that I have chosen are:
Life expectancy: The average number of years a newborn child would live if current mortality patterns
were to stay the same. Life expectancy is an indicator of wellbeing because the higher the GDP the
longer you will live because you can afford medicine and healthcare to take care of yourself and the
healthier your body is then the longer live. Docs.google.com, (2015).
GDP: Gross Domestic Product per capita by Purchasing Power Parities (in international dollars, fixed

Some reasons why there are differences between countries include the countries amount of wealth.
One country is more developed than the other, meaning that they would earn more money. In African
countries, they are having a more structured effort in their education. People will still go to school
even though they are already an adult; this is because they feel that an education is important.
Therefore, the answer to my question is no, a country does not need to have a high GDP to maintain a
high literacy rate.
Task 2: The Happy Planet Index (HPI)
The Happy Planet Index is the leading global measure of sustainable wellbeing. It records the
important information and indicators such as experienced well being, life expectancy and Ecological
footprints. It is different to other measures of wellbeing because it shows a very important aspect of
life, happiness. Other forms of measures just measure the wellbeing of people such as GDP rates and
life expectancy of countries. But the HPI measures the happiness of a country, this is good because it
could be compared with other indicators such as poverty and income. It shows that countries with a lot

The Ability Of Communicate Through Writing
Summary of the project:
The ability to communicate through writing has been imperative to meet various needs such as social,
professional and academic needs (Mahendran, 2013). However, writing is a difficult and a
complicated skill especially for students who are non native of a particular language, which makes it
hard for them to meet the writing needs in academic domains particularly. This difficulty is attributed
to the fact that writing comes at last as a skill in terms of its acquirement for both native and second
language speakers of the language (Hamp and Heasly, 2006). For the sake of facilitating the
acquirement of this important skill, effective and new approaches to teaching are to be incorporated in
the classroom practices. One of these approaches is Systemic Functional Linguistics, which views
language as a set of systems, each of which offers people choices to express meanings (Bloor Bloor,
1995). This project is two case studies of an EFL classroom that is based on Saudi Arabia with the
intention of improving the academic writing concentrating on two persuasive genre writings, which
are discussion and exposition genres. To do so, SFL is employed with its powerful analytical tools that
are helpful in educational contexts. In particular, these analytical tools examine written language in the
way sentences and clauses are organized as well as the way sentences are joined together to make a

Jackson Pollock s The Deep
The Deep was painted by Jackson Pollock in 1953 and was mostly done with black and white, which
he considered the essential colors. There are some pecks of yellow and light blue throughout the
canvas. The painting was huge, 5 X7 , and was painted with oil and enamel on canvas. Pollock would
paint this size canvas by putting it on the floor and placing one leg on it while he painted. Pollock used
a drip method which consisted of pouring paint on the canvas and dripping paint onto it with sticks
and brushes. Pollock s most famous paintings were created during the drip period from 1947 to 1950.
In his painting, The Deep, the white color can be considered the surface and the black color being that

His life changed overnight after a publication in Life magazine in 1949. There was a four page article
on him and his paintings in which he was asked if he was the greatest living painter in the United
States. As his fame grew, some began calling him a fraud and he began to question his own work and
had to have his wife tell him which paintings were good. In the 1950 s Pollock began assigning
numbers and dates rather than names to his paintings, as he considered symbolic titles misleading.
During this period he abandoned the drip method and painted in black and white only. He was not
successful with these changes and had showings in which no paintings were sold. He became very
depressed and returned to drinking very heavily as he had done many times before. His marriage
deteriorated to the point his wife returned to Paris to give him some time to work out his problems. He

a car accident while driving drunk and hit a tree. His wife returned from Paris to buy him and went
into a mourning that lasted the rest of her life. She did manage the sale of Pollock s painting and

Provisional License For Teens
Prompt 1
The age of 16 is a very fun and exciting year for teenages. A year of freedom and the highlight just so
happens to be getting their provisional license. A provisional license is what a teenager is given while
under the age of 18 and it is kept till they turn 21. The thought behind this is that they are still under
state and parent supervision, they are given some freedom, and responsibility and the age should not
be changed..
To have a provisional licence is to be under provision while driving, the first stage is spending six
months to a year behind the wheel with someone over twenty one in the vehicle. When this minor
does apply for a license and pass the driver s test they are issued a license with restrictions that last up
to a year, but the parents may waive them after six months. The restrictions are as follows the minor

In the case of retailers they are on premise (restaurants, hotels, pubs, etc.) and off premise
(supermarkets, wholesale price clubs, mass merchandisers and liquor stores). This three tier model
was mandatory in USA to avoid organized crime, and is not longer mandatory in several estates, as
well as many countries, but this structure tends to exist.
Wholesaler distributors. The current trend is the concentration in both wholesalers and retailers. In the
case of USA, today the top 5 distributors control 33% of the market, and the top 10 control 45%. This
high concentration supposes higher buyer power, as they buy larger volumes. In this scenario some
producers have their own distributors, like Gallo. In other markets, this is also a trend, as Europe,
where large firms, particularly the leading breweries, dominate the alcoholic beverage distribution. In
this sense, the buyer power is high.
Retailers. The current trend, further than the wine market, is clearly the concentration of the off
premises retailers. The well known Wal Mart and others became very large retailers, concentrating as
well high bargaining leverage. For example, Costco is currently the largest wine retailer in the U.S.
The same concentration is happening in the on premises buyers, where many large hotels and
restaurants chains are purchasing wine centrally rather at locally, increasing their buyer power.
Thus, the retailers buying force is also

The Influence Of Impressionism In The Art Of Art And Art
The Rococo style was popular in France during the 1700 s after the days of Versailles and into the
days of the aristocratic women hosting salons. Rococo artists sold their works to the wealthy people of
society to decorate their lavish salons to awe their guests. The artwork gave the salons their sense of
luxury and sensuality with scenes of classic love stories and lacey dresses. After the impressionist
movement came the post impressionist movement in France. This movement was less unified then
movements before it. These artists were experimental in finding a new way to represent their world
and imagination. Also starting in France during the 1930 s after the Great War came the Surrealist
movement. Following the teachings of Freud, Surreal artist dove into their minds to find the
inspiration for their irrational creations. The Rococo movement focused on creating an atmosphere of
sensuality and luxury in the social salons. The use of bright color in the love stories, extreme detail
portraying naughty scenes and nature is how the artist chose to create their work. They told classical,
fanciful love stories to the wealth French society. In contrast to this fanciful style the geared towards
the wealthy, the post impressionists chose to use art as a way of expression and showing their
imagination while experimenting with different styles. Post impressionist used imagination and
science to show their scenes with color and stiff figures. The Surrealists chose to further this

His goal now is to identify the back log of orders and get them through the bottlenecks, get them
assembled, and shipped out to the buyers as soon as possible. Alex and his team determines that one of
the underlying causes of their present parts pile up at the bottlenecks is because the operator cannot
tell the difference between a bottleneck destined part and an ordinary one. The operator, in an attempt

work on bottleneck parts. They attempt a solution for this by placing red and green tags on the parts

Jonah shows that they can use the same method to develop a release system for materials throughout
the system. By knowing when the bottleneck parts will reach final assembly, the release of the non
bottleneck materials can be timed to coincide along the other routes. Then Jonah indicates that after
load balancing is performed to meet market demand without excess production, the next logical step is
to reduce the batch sizes to reduce the total capital commitment used during production. Reduction in
batch sizes also reduces the total time spent in work in process. Less time spent in production
increases the speed of throughput as well as a faster turn around on customer orders. Shorter lead
times result in better response to the market demands. (Jackson, Goldratt, Cox, American Media
Incorporated, 1995) At this point the factory is operating at a capacity like never before. They have
been shipping a record number of orders in a record amount of time. All of the orders past the
shipping date have been completed and shipped. They are now shipping current orders on time and

Disruptions In Schools
The United States is known as the land of the free because it grants its citizens the right to be
protected by the law. Unless they are being used unconstitutionally, their right to freedom of speech
cannot be violated. As citizens, students obtain these same rights. For example, religious tolerance in
schools assures that they are not treated unfairly. Students under suspicion are searched to insure
safety in the school and to secure peace among their students and staff. Disruptions in schools are
usually caused by students actions that affect their peers ability to learn. This makes it a goal for
public schools to maintain an educational and safe environment. However, human rights of students

SNAP, is funded by the Food Research Action Center known as FRAC, a private, nonprofit
organization. FRAC receives its funding from the Federal Government. In December 2015, the year

Down The River By Edward Abbey Summary
The beauty and wonders of nature are inexplicably alluring. In the nonfiction essay Down The River ,
Edward Abbey successfully conveys this attitude in his description of his time in the Aravaipa
Canyon. By observing his surroundings and comparing nature to human life, Abbey expresses a
peaceful admiration, blended with a mystical attitude and respect toward nature. Abbey s awe and
fascination for nature is prominent throughout his essay. For him, nature can never fully be
understood, and man will never be able to comprehend the complexity of the universe. Abby s attitude
toward nature is one of peacefulness and respect, made evident by his constant admiration and
appreciation towards it.
Abbey s attitude toward nature comes from his curiosity and wonder from visiting the canyon. In the
beginning of his story, Abbey tells an anecdote about his encounter with a mountain lion in the
canyon. Although the natural instinct is to be afraid, Abbey was not. He felt a sense of wonder and
excitement, not fear. This anecdote creates a mood of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he sees this canyon as precious and wonderful, he refers to it as trivial, small and useless in
the last paragraph. However, Abbey does not see nature as unimportant, but when compared to the
vastness of the universe this one canyon is nothing. Abbey sees the universe and the all the nature that
inhabits it as rich in detail , by saying this and referring to the canyon as useless, he amplifies his
appreciative attitude toward nature. Abbey also refers to Fuller s quote about the world being
comprehensible to show contrast. Because Abbey disagrees with this quote, it shows his view of the
universe. He does not see it as comprehensible or able to be understood, he sees it as mysterious and
incomprehensible. Abby s attitude is shown as he uses contrasting words and quotes because it allows
the reader to fully understand his view and attitude on

Essay On Gender Dysphoria
His parents named him Samantha, but he always preferred to be called Sam. At birth Sam was
identified as female, but he never felt that way. At the age of only five, Sam was diagnosed with
Gender Dysphoria: a persistent unease with having the physical characteristics of one s gender,
accompanied by a strong identification with the opposite gender. For example, a person who has all of
the physical traits of a male might feel strongly instead that he is a female. This person would have a
passionate desire to have a female body and to be accepted by others as a female. On the other hand,
someone with the physical characteristics of a female would feel her true identity to be male.

Johanna Olson in the video Living a Transgender Childhood, in order to diagnose a child with Gender
Dysphoria, they must be persistent, consistent, and insistent. Olson names this concept as the profiles
of children that have very solid gender identities. As early as 2 years old, the signs and symptoms of
having Gender Dysphoria may begin to become more relevant. Dr. Olson states that some of the signs
and symptoms in children may include: constantly saying they are the opposite sex, playing with toys
that aren t typical for their gender, rejecting clothes and games relating to their gender, believing they
will grow up to be the opposite sex, and saying they want to get rid of their genitals. As the children
grow older in their teen years, the symptoms can become far worse. Teenagers may become even more
certain that their gender is not true to their body, be disgusted with their genitals, and want their
removal. At this time, teenagers at the age of 16 may seek medical attention to help them transition to
the opposite sex. Adults will typically have the same symptoms as teens but moreso they will feel
more depressed and isolated, as well as dressing as the opposite gender. Left untreated, children and
adults with Gender Dysphoria may decide to take matters into their own hands and become

Emergency Plumber And Roofing Research Paper
Keyword: Emergency Plumber Roofing service Tips to Choose an Emergency Plumber Roofing
service All homeowners will find the need to hire a professional plumber or a roofing contractor at one
point or another. It could be a storm that has damaged the roof where it is in need of emergency repair
to quickly get back life to normal. Also, it could be a plumbing problem that occurred suddenly which
needs to fixed before it causes major damage to the house. Either way though some minor repairs
could be done by homeowners with little knowledge and skills, most of the time many proofing and
plumbing problems require the skills of a professional plumber or roofing contractor. At such times, it
is necessary to choose a professional who is local and well qualified for the job. Equally important ...

Some offer the whole package whereas others offer specialized services in one or two areas. The best
way is to call the plumbing or roofing company that you are planning to consider and discuss about
the requirements before you agree to hire them or get a quote from them. A valuable tool is to reach
out to family, friends or neighbors for local referrals. Usually customers who are satisfied with a
professional plumber or a roofing company are likely to recommend their services to people whom
they know. So finding local referrals is a quick and reliable method to get the right plumber or roofing
contractor. Also, local plumbers and roofing contractors are the best choice as they would be familiar
with the local rules and regulations. Such companies also would know the local suppliers in the
community for repair parts and suppliers. Do not go by just one referral. Try to get at least three to
four referrals or recommendations from family or friends. Then check for reviews for all those
companies to find out, which is being recommended the most in your area or

Zen Tradition Essay
Zen Tradition
The forefather of Madhyamika Buddhism was Nagarjuna. T.P. Kasulis writes in his book, Zen Action,
Zen Person that Nagarjuna was a predecessor to the development of Zen Buddhism. Nagarjuna is
regarded though as a patriarch of the Zen tradition. He was the affecting principle to demonstrate
logically the emptiness , or rather sunyata of philosophical distinctions. Kasulis also explores
Nagarjuna s Logic of Emptiness. The Buddhist claimed that to be concerned with speculative
questions is like being concerned with the origin of a poisoned arrow while it is still in one s flesh,
contaminating the bloodstream. Kasulis writes that a conflicting group supposed that nothing at all
continued from the cause into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what Nagarjuna was saying was that these distinctions that the Abhidharma Buddhist believed in
eventually lead to absurdities that cannot be escaped from. Kasulis focuses on two of Nagarjuna s
points or rather critiques against the Abhidharma; time and causality. Nagarjuna s critique on time can
be seen as a good introduction to his methodology. Nagarjuna argues four points against time.
The first critique is that if the existence of the present and future depends upon the past, then present
and future should be in the past (Kasulis). An example from my life to help illustrate this point would
be driving. The past is when I was 16 years old and I got my driver s license. The present is me
currently driving and the future is that I will have a wreck. If the present (driving) and the future (my
wreck) depends on the past (my obtaining my drivers license), then my being able to drive (present),
and my having a wreck (future) should be in the past.
Nagarjuna s second critique against time is that if present and future was not in the past, how could
present and future is dependent upon the past? It can be illustrated this way. If my driving (present)
and my having a wreck (future) are not in the past then how could my driving (present) and my having
a wreck (future) are dependent upon my obtaining my license?

Analysis Of Beyonce s Song Pretty Hurts
Life, True Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness:
Beyonce s Portrayal of the American Beauty Standard
America is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. Instead, it is oppressed with
a disease that attacks the self esteem of its entire people. Women, in particular, are affected. Because
society sets ridiculous expectations for beauty, women strive to achieve them but, never will. Beyonce
s song Pretty Hurts was co written by Joshua Coleman, Sia Fuller and Beyonce Knowles. As the music
video begins, the spotlight turns onto Miss Third Ward, Beyonce s character, and she smiles.
Throughout the video, the spotlight is always the cue for Miss Third Ward to put on a happy face. She
only smiles in the spotlight. As Miss Third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The video clearly suggests that it is the white population, or the majority, that sets the standard of
beauty. Although some of the contestants are white, all of the spectators in the video are also white by
race. The judges in the pageant are white men, the lady who spray tans Miss Third Ward is also white.
Because all the judges are white men, the video speaks that white men are the ones who formed the
mold for American women to fit. Women of every race are subject to the white man s view of beauty.
It is ironic that while Miss Third Ward naturally has tanned skin, a the white woman is spray tanning
her, suggesting that Miss Third Ward is only allowed to be an artificial copy of the real her. People
with pale skin lay in tanning beds or spray tan to get a certain look during the summer months but
reject the quality during the cooler season. Tanned skin has become a trend. The artist goes even
further to make the pageant coach a tall, lanky albino black man. The winner of the pageant, Miss
Shaolin, is also an albino black woman. The two albino blacks are the counterpart to spray tanning the
natually tanned. The video insists that white is beautiful. Miss Shaolin wears a ton of makeup and
seems to look over worked with plastic surgery and botox. She has bleached blonde hair and looks
malnourished. Throughout the video, there are scenes where Miss Third Ward is sitting at her vanity in

The Key That Unites Us All
Anna Bradstreet, Jonathan Edwards, and many writers had faith in religion, but others like Benjamin
Franklin had faith in science. I believe that in order to find inner peace, people must learn to accept
things for what they actually are. People do not need to have faith in religion to find their inner peace.
Before reading this letter, I have not given much thought into the thing that unites all humans
intellectually. This letter made me recognize that the key that unites us all is acceptance. Acceptance
can be accomplished through factors other than religion. I established this thought while reading
Bradstreet s letter to her children. It made me realize that religion is not what kept people going
through their tough times, but it was their faith that played an enormous role in people s peace of
mind. Furthermore, many writers in her time hoped to benefit future generations by sharing their
experiences.
Bradstreet s aim was to communicate to her children the power and the glory of God (Bradstreet 235).
Within her poem, she emphasized on how she would occasionally abandon her prayers and forget
God, only to have found that she forgot and lost herself as well and found herself troubled (Bradstreet
236). She improved herself by being obedient to God and tried to avoid all sins. I was able to link her
beliefs and attempts at self improvement with Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin. Both
Edwards and Bradstreet continuously tried to improve themselves morally and

  • 2. Significance Of Marco Polo s Voyages Explain the significance of Marco Polo s voyages to the East for our understanding of world history. The silk routes, has for many centuries, connected the world through a series of overland and maritime routes reaching from China, India, the Middle East and Europe. One of the most significant narratives of the voyage is told through Marco Polo, who had a significant impact on the relationship between the east and Europe and on world history. Polo s voyages vastly enhanced European knowledge about the east in both a cultural, technological and materialistic sense. Most significantly, Polo s detailed narrative inspired new travel and trade to Asia, which further deepened the connections and communications between Europe and the rest of Asia. Overall, Marco Polo s voyages encouraged a need for a greater knowledge outside of Europe and inspired a .... World history is the study of direct and indirect interconnections, interdependencies and linkages of states, civilizations, cultures, religions and race. The study of world history allows historians to inspect history on a wider scope, transcending state and ecological boundaries, to analyse the impacts of social, political and economic exchanges globally. World history allows an understanding of global differences and conflicts. This reveals the changes and continuities and the long term causes and effects of the contacts and connections between humans, thus, revealing global trends and patterns in society. • 3. Paradise Lost Religion Satan, still within the body of the serpent, offers Eve a multitude of reasons why she should eat from the Tree of Knowledge, despite God s warnings. He tells her the fruit will not kill her as God says, for he ate of the fruit and is not only alive, but made even more powerful. In his most prevalent argument, Satan attempts to demonstrate to Eve that the act of eating has the ability to become a transformative experience. Though ultimately true, the transformation that Satan describes occurs far differently than the one she and Adam actually receive. In Christianity, food acts as such a significant force that Satan can almost seamlessly trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Food and eating is so powerful throughout theology, that Eve can effortlessly envision its potential as a vehicle to transform her from an earthly human to a god like being. Upon Eve s initial consumption of the illicit fruit, one of her leading thoughts becomes that the fruit may render me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story of creation expressed in Paradise Lost , Milton depicts how food can act as a way to transform a person of innocence into one defined largely by depravity. Within his story, Milton communicates the fall of man through the act of consumption. Reversely, man s ability to achieve redemption is also profoundly contingent on food. In religiously sanctioned eating, such as the Holy Communion, food can act to aid one s relationship with God. By participating in the Eucharist and other godly ways of consumption, man becomes able to rebuild and restore the relationship with God that became corrupt after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge. In Christian faith, everything hinges on God s interpretation. If God gives a regulation, whether that regulation present itself in the form of food or not, man s level of ability and willingness to follow that decree largely defines his spiritual ... Therefore damage to the structures can occur if proper measures and ground investigations are not carried out. If the soil is compressible it can cause subsidence to adjacent surface structures. Physical conditions of existing structures should be obtained and laboratory tests taken to provide information, which is clear about the behaviour of the surrounding structures. For this project a ground investigation survey was carried out between 10 June and 26 July. This involved the excavation mechanically and by hand of trial pits and the drilling of exploratory holes. Selected samples from the tests were collected to assess the presence of contamination and geotechnical characteristics. Based on the ground investigation, potential for significant contamination is considered low due to a lack of mobile contaminants that could potentially be released to the environment. In addition the assessment carried out to find if groundwater, and surface water features would not significant effect on soils or geology. (Highway agency 2015). Geotechnical design for groundwater using sheet piles. Sheet piles have been used at a number of sites to isolated contaminated zones from one another. Interlocking piles are driven into the ground through the unsaturated zone and the aquifer down into consolidated zone. The piles remaining above ground are cut off after driving the barrier into the consolidated material. Fine granulated soil particles fill up the gaps between the steel sheets. The weight of a building is transmitted to the ground through its foundation when it is being constructed and this added stress to the underlying strata. The stresses added can cause ... • 5. How Did The Reconstruction Era Affect America Today The reconstruction era was a time that then affected America in positive facets and negative aspects as well, and still affects America today. Thanks to the reconstruction era, there are several implementations that geared the world on the path in which it is today. Had it not been for some of the laws that were set in place African Americans may have not had many of the opportunities that were presented during the reconstruction period, therefore the years of oppression and cruelty might still be present. Arguably one of the greatest contributions during the reconstruction era was the thirteenth amendment. This is the amendment that formally abolished the cruel and unjust acts of slavery in 1865. The thirteenth amendment states Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction (Primary documents in American History). The ratification came eight months after the end of the war, but it represented the culmination of the struggle against slavery. When the war began, some in the North were against fighting what they saw as a crusade to end slavery. Although many northern Democrats and conservative Republicans were opposed to slavery s expansion, they were ambivalent about outlawing the institution entirely (13th amendment ratified). This statement is proof that although the North was opposed to slavery they were not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Volkswagen Dirties It s Hands Nikhil Kanamarla Mrs. Benzing English 1 Period E May 1st, 2016 Volkswagen dirties it s hands in emissions scandal A car is spewing deadly carbon dioxide, forty times more than the car next to you. Piling onto many recent scandals in Europe, Germany s Volkswagen has cheated emissions tests. The scandal has sparked enormous stifle across the world and turmoil in the company. The Volkswagen company started when Adolf Hitler gave the order to have the small middle class car to be produced. VW produced the Beetle in the 1930s to much of Germany s population. After the end of the third Reich, Volkswagen spread and became a large job creator in Germany as well as an international brand (Morning Edition). Volkswagen prioritization of the European market, led them to bet their future on green tech chips and diesel engines. This is in contrary to the moves of many other car makers, who are pursuing electric cars in the American market. The American market thought of diesel engines as secondary and insignificant (Ziegler). The Environmental Protection Agency s Tier ii emissions standards had high bars for diesel emissions that would be extremely difficult to reach. There was a heavy burden for Volkswagen s engineers to create a quantum leap in the diesel engine in terms of emissions and fuel economy. To cut these emissions Volkswagen would need to use an effective but bulky and expensive system in its cars. However cheating the emissions tests would be fairly easy due to the lack of ... Two ads that are trying to address the issue are Vic Health Will your kids go through the agony and Quit Line s Should have been there . They are trying to stop parents smoking and position them to quit for their kids. Quit Line is an organisation that has been running since early 1970. Vic health on the other hand has been running since 1987. The contention of Should have been there is for the parents to stop smoking so they do not miss out on things with their kids. The intention is to stop smoking so the viewers can spend as much time as possible with their kids. Whereas the contention of Will your kids go through the agony is to get the audience to stop and think about their kids and how will they go if the viewer passes away from smoking the intention is for the audience to stop smoking so for the kids sake. ... They both demonstrate and reinforce the fact that everyone is affected by just one person smoking in the family. • 10. The Value Of Symbolic Analysts The Value of Symbolic Analysts Robert Reich categorizes America s workforce into three distinct groups, routine producers, in person servers, and symbolic analysts. Reich defines the first two groups as principally manual laborers, and the third group as people who work and create value using their minds. This would include occupations such as engineers, attorneys, scientists, professors, executives, et al. Symbolic analysts are objectively and quantifiably more valuable than the other two groups combined. To establish an operational definition of value, we recognize value as the amount of revenue and/or opportunities an individual provides. They argue that without them, the CEOs would not have a working company to run. While the union workers are technically not mistaken, they are however neglecting a number of factors, the first being that an individual s compensation is directly correlated with the amount of value that the individual brings to the corporation. When we break down the responsibilities of a lowly sales associate, their only task is to assist customers in purchasing items. An executive manages everything from negotiating with suppliers, organizing facilities, creating new departments, delegating tasks to aforementioned departments, et al. The real value that executives add to the company is exponentially greater than that of the average worker; this fact is quantifiable. Another issue that union workers do not take into consideration is the fact that sales associates and other manual laborers in a broader sense are largely expendable, as such is the nature of a low skill job. The fact of the matter is that the minimum wage workers need their CEO more than their CEO needs them. The brutal reality is that if workers are unsatisfied with their wages the executives can simply replace them with people that are satisfied, leading us to the issue of scarcity and surplus of labor supply. The issue of scarcity is a basic concept in the study of economics, and furthers contributes to the value of symbolic analysts. Reich discusses how demand for symbolic analysts grows with the advent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. High School, Collegiate, And Professional Activities In my first essay, I took a deeply cynic position against competition. But, as discussed by Shields, maybe I have not seen true competition. Perhaps what I have viewed in high school, collegiate, and professional activities is actually decompetition (n.d.). Decompetition is like competition, but it primarily promotes the worst attributes in athletics, producing a negative outcome (Shields, n.d.). Regardless, over the course of this semester, my view of competition has been changed. I now hold a neutral view of competition. I do not believe that all competition is innately bad but not all is inherently good either. The game of jacks played today was the most pivotal activity in the shift of my opinion. No one in my group had ever played the game. Instead of working individually, so one of us could triumph over the others, we worked together to find the best strategies and methods. Every time someone threw their handful of jacks to the floor, we analyzed them to find the best way to gather the jacks. We moaned when someone failed to gather their jacks in time and cheered when someone did the seemingly impossible. To us, the game was still fresh and new; we used each other s perspectives to figure it out. During our first game, for instance, Amanda received zero points, and I only won ten. But, by game two, Amanda and I, through trial and error and the feedback from the others, sharpened our skills to earn 51 and 40 points respectively. I was fairly happy with my success, ... • 13. Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Nightmare By Sherman Alexie In this quote, Alexie uses foreshadowing as a literary device. Flashbacks show what is important in the past and how it reflects the future. While Thomas and Victor were/are kids they got into a fight and stopped talking. Now Thomas is helping Victor. Although this is a flashback, it may also be interpreted as a hint of Victor and Thomas being friends again and help each other. Alexie is trying to tell his readers, even though you may have fought in the past, that doesn t mean you need to not care for each other. I really like this idea because I believe it is what everyone should do. Be there for them. If I were Victor, at this point I would say sorry to Thomas for not talking to him and be better friends with him that they were before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I really like this idea because it makes you pay attention and really understand the novel. Alexie uses allegory in the quote demonstrating how James s voice acts as a savior. I believe the author uses this to show that James may be about to help Victor or maybe be with his as a fallback just like how he caught the glass with his voice. This also reflects off of the theme of being spiritual. Alexie might be trying to just show how Indians really were or are. I really don t understand what is happening here because it seems to be just a whole bunch of short stories that have very little to do anything with each other. I really dislike this idea because it just makes the whole novel seem confusing and hard to understand. In this quote, Alexie uses symbolic as the literary device. He says the black circle looks like a smoke hole and that is used when there is a fire. Most people get hot when mad and need to vent. I believe the studio is more of a venting ground than anything. Euripides presents the characters of Phaedra and Nurse in Hippolytus as two ends on a moral spectrum; Nurse having a pragmatic approach to the tragedy orchestrated by Cypris while Phaedra takes the idealistic view. It s Phaedra s idealistic morals which make her such an interesting comparison to Hippolytus as they both conceive themselves and are portrayed as virtuous people, yet the contrast is their different perceptions of being virtuous. She says find way to control your sickness implying that it can be controlled rather than just being lost in or denying completely. Because of her pragmatic nature she in inclined to work around a problem rather than just seeing it in black and white meaning that she is able to convince Phaedra that there is hope and that she doesn t have to die and leave her children and husband. It s this that creates sympathy for Nurse as she does everything out of a kindness for Phaedra that would be quite unusual for a slave to harbour for a noble. Even when she does bring about Phaedra s tragedy by telling Hippolytus it is not out of anything malicious but out of a kindness to try and resolve a difficult situation and even Phaedra recognises this when she says It was a friend s act but not a noble one to try and cure my sickness . Presenting Nurse as not evil at all but merely having an error of judgement making the audience sympathise with her because of her meaning well and trying to do the right thing. • 27. The Ability Of Communicate Through Writing Summary of the project: The ability to communicate through writing has been imperative to meet various needs such as social, professional and academic needs (Mahendran, 2013). However, writing is a difficult and a complicated skill especially for students who are non native of a particular language, which makes it hard for them to meet the writing needs in academic domains particularly. This difficulty is attributed to the fact that writing comes at last as a skill in terms of its acquirement for both native and second language speakers of the language (Hamp and Heasly, 2006). For the sake of facilitating the acquirement of this important skill, effective and new approaches to teaching are to be incorporated in the classroom practices. One of these approaches is Systemic Functional Linguistics, which views language as a set of systems, each of which offers people choices to express meanings (Bloor Bloor, 1995). This project is two case studies of an EFL classroom that is based on Saudi Arabia with the intention of improving the academic writing concentrating on two persuasive genre writings, which are discussion and exposition genres. To do so, SFL is employed with its powerful analytical tools that are helpful in educational contexts. Wholesaler distributors. The current trend is the concentration in both wholesalers and retailers. In the case of USA, today the top 5 distributors control 33% of the market, and the top 10 control 45%. This high concentration supposes higher buyer power, as they buy larger volumes. Following the teachings of Freud, Surreal artist dove into their minds to find the inspiration for their irrational creations. The Rococo movement focused on creating an atmosphere of sensuality and luxury in the social salons. The use of bright color in the love stories, extreme detail portraying naughty scenes and nature is how the artist chose to create their work. They told classical, fanciful love stories to the wealth French society. In contrast to this fanciful style the geared towards the wealthy, the post impressionists chose to use art as a way of expression and showing their imagination while experimenting with different styles. His goal now is to identify the back log of orders and get them through the bottlenecks, get them assembled, and shipped out to the buyers as soon as possible. Alex and his team determines that one of the underlying causes of their present parts pile up at the bottlenecks is because the operator cannot tell the difference between a bottleneck destined part and an ordinary one. By knowing when the bottleneck parts will reach final assembly, the release of the non bottleneck materials can be timed to coincide along the other routes. Reduction in batch sizes also reduces the total time spent in work in process. Less time spent in production increases the speed of throughput as well as a faster turn around on customer orders. Shorter lead times result in better response to the market demands. (Jackson, Goldratt, Cox, American Media Incorporated, 1995) At this point the factory is operating at a capacity like never before. In the nonfiction essay Down The River , Edward Abbey successfully conveys this attitude in his description of his time in the Aravaipa Canyon. By observing his surroundings and comparing nature to human life, Abbey expresses a peaceful admiration, blended with a mystical attitude and respect toward nature. Abbey s awe and fascination for nature is prominent throughout his essay. For him, nature can never fully be understood, and man will never be able to comprehend the complexity of the universe. Abby s attitude toward nature is one of peacefulness and respect, made evident by his constant admiration and appreciation towards it. Abbey s attitude toward nature comes from his curiosity and wonder from visiting the canyon. So what Nagarjuna was saying was that these distinctions that the Abhidharma Buddhist believed in eventually lead to absurdities that cannot be escaped from. Kasulis focuses on two of Nagarjuna s points or rather critiques against the Abhidharma; time and causality. Nagarjuna s critique on time can be seen as a good introduction to his methodology. Nagarjuna argues four points against time. The first critique is that if the existence of the present and future depends upon the past, then present and future should be in the past (Kasulis). An example from my life to help illustrate this point would be driving. The past is when I was 16 years old and I got my driver s license. The present is me currently driving and the future is that I will have a wreck. If the present (driving) and the future (my wreck) depends on the past (my obtaining my drivers license), then my being able to drive (present), and my having a wreck (future) should be in the past. Nagarjuna s second critique against time is that if present and future was not in the past, how could present and future is dependent upon the past? It can be illustrated this way. Before reading this letter, I have not given much thought into the thing that unites all humans intellectually. This letter made me recognize that the key that unites us all is acceptance. Acceptance can be accomplished through factors other than religion. I established this thought while reading Bradstreet s letter to her children. It made me realize that religion is not what kept people going through their tough times, but it was their faith that played an enormous role in people s peace of mind. Furthermore, many writers in her time hoped to benefit future generations by sharing their experiences. Bradstreet s aim was to communicate to her children the power and the glory of God (Bradstreet 235). Within her poem, she emphasized on how she would occasionally abandon her prayers and forget God, only to have found that she forgot and lost herself as well and found herself troubled (Bradstreet 236).
