The Massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his Explorers in...
Two events took place in the mid 19th century in the United States that set the stage for a third
which became an historic turning point in American history. The settlement of Mormons in Utah
and their pursuit to establish their own government coupled with explorations to develop the
transcontinental railroad laid the groundwork for the massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his
explorers in 1853 which took eight lives. As massacres go, the loss of eight people was not
numerically remarkable. What made the Gunnison Massacre exceptional is that it catapulted into
the American conscious. Both Mormons and American Indians entered the spotlight of American
attention, and the resulting outrage forever changed American sentiment and government... Show

The Corps described the topography, route, buildings and culture of an assigned survey area, made
sketches of routes and distances, noted important observations, and kept a journal of daily
movements when the army was on the march. To accomplish this, such an expedition team would
typically include surveyors, a geologist, botanist, astronomer, meteorologist and an artist.
Transcontinental railroad After the United States acquired so much more territory, the push for
expansion accelerated and spurred development of an American transcontinental railroad line. The
California Gold Rush of 1848 fanned the flames of westward exploration and settlement. One of the
biggest challenges was finding the most suitable route. Businessmen were eager to expand their
horizons and capitalize on new western markets. In 1845, an early proponent of a transcontinental
railroad, Asa Whitney, led an exploratory team along the route he envisioned from Chicago to
northern California. As a highly successful dry goods merchant and locomotive manufacturer in
New Rochelle, New York, Whitney traveled widely to solicit support from other businessmen and
politicians. He proposed selling land to settlers along the route to finance construction. Whitney
printed maps and pamphlets and submitted several proposals to Congress. He was thwarted,
however, by southern business interests who opposed his plan because they would not

Indoor Air Quality And Environmental Health Essay
Indoor Air Quality and Environmental Health Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers only to the quality
of the ambient air in an interior environment. On average, people spend well over half of their
time inside, and research has shown that indoor air in buildings can be more contaminated than
outdoor air. The majority of people that work in non industrial buildings such as offices, schools,
and hospitals are exposed daily to poor IAQ. Indoor air pollution (IAP) continually ranks among
the top five environmental risks to public health. Therefore, IAP is a critical factor of the safety
and well being of the population. This paper explores IAP in context, the health risks related to
poor air quality, the burden of disease from household air pollution, guidelines for environmental
infection control in healthcare facilities, and how to improve IAP. Indoor Environmental Quality
Indoor environmental quality (IEQ), comprises the quality of a building s environment concerning
the wellbeing and health of those who occupy the space. Many factors contribute to the IEQ such
as air quality, lighting, and damp conditions. People usually experience symptoms or health
conditions from exposures to contaminants while they are indoor. One of the reasons why IEQ is a
primary concern is because some people that experience symptoms while indoors usually get better
when they are not in the building. Indoor environments are incredibly complex, and building
occupants may be exposed to a variety of

The Bill Of Rights And The Constitution
Before dealing with individual amendments I would like to deal with the entire Bill of Rights
and the constitution itself. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much
power to the federal government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it
to the capital but would interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most
local level possible. It was impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr
news and the ability to fly around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I
believe it is more necessary to make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws
of the land. In 1833, the Supreme Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was
written out of fear by the Antifederalist to constrain the federal government. We have given the
individual States the power to make laws that conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of
other states and national norms. It is these contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the
doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law
should be formulated at the highest level and filter down to the lowest. Make the Constitution and
the Bill of Rights the total law of the land and no other law in any state may contradict them to
ensure the beginnings of equality among all citizens. The First Amendment states, Congress shall
make no law respecting an

How Did The Influence Of Hinduism During The Vedic Era
It is widely known that the Vedic Era was one of the most influential time periods in ancient history.
This is largely due to how the composition of the Vedas was made during this time, which was an
essential set of texts that greatly shaped Hinduism. This impact on Hinduism however would not
been a success without Sanskrit. During this time Sanskrit was able to completely change the
method of communication and along with having influence on the Vedasand Hinduism, Sanskrit,
most likely arriving from outside of Indiaencountered Ancient Asia, specifically during the
beginning of the Vedic Era, became central to South Asian culture, language and religion by 500
BCE. Other influences of Sanskrit can be observed through culture, language, and belief systems.
The Vedic Era can be described best as the time period when the Vedas were being composed. This
took place between 1500 500 BCE. Although the Vedic Era is famous for the composition of The
Vedas, a series of texts essential to Hinduism, it is also known for the development of the Sanskrit
language and other valuable advancements that further influenced the history of India and the
surrounding areas. Some of these valuable advancements include mathematics, especially algebra
and geometry, as well as early astronomy and planetary observations, many of which can be found
in the historical Vedic texts. Some other notable advancements made during this time include
technology. Shipbuilding, methods of trade and agriculture were

Comparing Black And Blue, And They Wear The Mask
Black And Blue , by Louis Armstrong and We Wear The Mask , by Paul Laurence Dunbar both
take a further meaning in a profound way of Ellison s work. Louis Armstrong poetically writes
what did I do? Tell me, what did I do to be so black and blue? The way in which it flows suggests
that Armstrong brings what happens in society (desegregation) and incorporates it into his lyrics.
The tempo of the song makes me question, was he sad or happy. Are the lyrics making him out
to be black or white? Black and Blue is a completely different concept and teaching from We
Wear The Mask , being that they want to hide their emotions with a different face. Armstrong
sings I m white on the inside, but that doesn t help my case Cause I can t hide what is on my face
his emotions pour out of emptiness on the inside and he can t help but show it on face.... Show more

and to where the holes introduced and honestly I still don t understand how one day he s a real

it says I m gonna buy a Paper Doll that I can call my own, most of the class thought that he was
buying his own doll, a plastic doll to talk to. My first thought was that this could be related to
today with men wanting to have a trophy wife, and the husband can work and bring home all the
money, while the wife stays home and looks pretty. Thinking about how Ellison wrote the women

Brief Summary Of The Novel Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Title: Enders Game Author: Orson Scott Card Text Type: Extended Text The novel Enders
Game by Orson Scott card is a story about a young boy called Ender living in a technologically
advanced world. Earth was attacked by an ant like alien species nicknamed the Buggers before
Ender was born and mankind only just beat them. After the first war the Earth then prepared a
counter attack against the aliens. 50 years on Ender was born and sent to a battle school to be
trained into a fleet commander, after battle school he becomes one of the best and is sent to
command school where he plays what he thinks are simulations but are actually real battles
against the Buggers. He eventually destroys their home planet and the species. He is then told
what he is done and feels extremely guilty about it. He later found an egg which is the last Bugger
left and sets off on a journey to find it a new home. Perhaps it s impossible... To wear an identity
without becoming what you pretend to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that the guilt in Ender s Game very much relates to the guilt that occurs in our world
today. Guilt overthrows the weak hearted as guilt changes people s perspective of the world as
they take ownership on what they can t change. I personally thing negative emotions like
loneliness, envy and guilt have an important role to play in a happy life as they are signs that
somethings needs a change. Ender regretted his action as he felt he was the one to blame. Ender
definitely felt regretful when he killed the Bugger specimen. We can see this when Ender decides
to take the egg and travel the universe to find the Bugger s a new home. If you try and lose then it
isn t your fault. But if you don t try and we lose it is you fault.

Portrayal Of Mental Illness In Black Swan Lake
I decided to watch the movie Black Swan for the mental illness portion of the culture badge. The
movie portrays a number of mental illness including obsessive compulsive disorder, eating
disorder, and psychosis. Nina, the protagonist in the movie, is a fragile and repressed ballerina.
She strives for the lead in Tchaikovsky s SwanLake, a role that requires her to play both the gentle
white swan and the seductive black swan. While she is the perfect representation of the white
swan, she is also far from the image of the black swan. After winning the part, stress mounts on
Nina to fulfill her role as the black swan. She experiences unwanted sexual advances from her
director, jealousy from other ballerinas, as well as increasing conflict from her over controlling
mom as she tried to assert her autonomy. As stress and anxiety increase, Nina begins to experience
psychotic breaks in which the lines between reality and hallucination blurs, culminating in a
shocking ending relating to her embracing the Black Swan persona.... Show more content on

Based on her symptoms, Nina could have both schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder
towards the idea of perfection. As she tries to awake her inner black swan, Nina falsely
hallucinated some of her body injuries, her actions, and that another ballerina is coming after her.
These false beliefs and decisions she made due to her beliefs prevented Nina from having a
normal, healthy life. Nina also experiences anxiety by picking and scratching her skin as evident
signs and her obsessive traits are highlighted as she puts efforts to achieve perfection in dancing
and body image by developing eating

by some as thrilling, an adrenaline rush, and a good way to exercise, I maintain that it s too
dangerous for someone to accomplish. Do you know anyone who likes to surf? I know people

we think we are a lot better at something than we really are. In reality you re probably not ready for

AUSTRALIAN LAWS Intellectual Property
What is intellectual property?
Intellectual property is any creation, owned by one or multiple owners, that is used commercially.
The designs, inventions or any work that is original can be protected by IP rights. Rights are
established through application and prevent any use without permission. The only way to use this
work, when not owned, would be to buy the rights. While rights are owned there is an opportunity
to make advancements with limited opposition. This is due to the competition not being able to act
since the idea is not theirs.

depending on the payment method (electronic or other). The protection period is then up after 20
years and would need to be renewed.
A standard application for a trademark costs $120 per type (tv show etv). A trademarked series costs
$270 per type. Registering fees are $300 which is the same cost of a renewal.
Applying for rights over a design can cost $250 $350 and renewed for $320 $370. Examination fees
cost $420 if done by the design owner and $210 if examined by a third party.
If fees are late the price can increase by $100 per month for an average of up to six months.
What are the constraints or issues surrounding protecting a design?
Different forms of intellectual property protection have certain limitations on the time period
they are in effect. The duration a patented design lasts is for 10 years. Fees are paid to make sure
this protection remains. A registered design prevents third parties from utilizing the product for
up to 25 years if it is renewed each five year period. Proof must be given that a person has created
a design. These could be copies or photographic evidence of the design. The aspects of a design
that are forbidden for use by others are the appearance, shape, arrangement and decoration. There
are some criteria the design must meet in order for it to be protected. It must be new, not offensive,
not contain already protected designs and is not

Tips On Choosing A Wordpress Theme
Tips on Choosing a WordPress Theme Choose Your Layout
When you sit down to construct your first WordPress website or blog you have a very big
decision to make immediately, and that s choosing a theme. This is probably the first thing you will
do after you install the software, and its major because your theme, or layout, is the first thing your
readers will see. Your theme represents you, and your goal is to make it as appealing as possible.
People will make an instant judgement as to the quality and value of your website as soon as
they land on your home page. Your header image should relay the message and purpose of your
website. Your navigation bar should be user intuitive, and the color scheme should be soft and
warm so you don t scare people off.
All of this is made easy if you have chosen the best possible theme for your product or service.
Lets learn a little about themes and then take a look at some tips on choosing your best possible
WordPress theme.
Look And Feel
Keep in mind that themes are simply the look , and to some degree, feel of your website. Your
theme is like the outside of your house; what people see first. It can have nice window dressing,
pretty colors, fancy decorative brick and an overall pleasant appeal. If people like what they see
they will enter, or (click) around and stay for a visit. This is what you want to keep your visitors in
the house. And, it all starts by having the right theme.
So start with an appealing theme and combine

Comparing Elizabeth Stanton’s Declaration of Sentiments...
Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Declaration of Sentiments and The Women s Bible
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the most renowned women to lead campaigns for women s
rights. Her efforts were focused on opportunities for women, for married women s property rights,
the right to divorce, and the right to custody of children; her most radical demand was for women s
right to vote (Davidson and Wagner Martin 845). In general Stanton wished to instill independence
and self reliance in all women. Stanton was an inspiring orator of speeches including the Declaration
of Sentiments as well as the book The Women s Bible. Upon analysis of her speeches and other

Much of her knowledge was gained by time spent in her fatherГўs office reading law books and
listening to his conversations with clients. Stanton refused to allow societyГўs constraints to limit
her ability to excel as mush or more than a young man does. In taking on this conviction, she later in
life attempted to have changes made to allow women to attend the same schools (colleges) that men
attended.
In the experiences Stanton witnessed between clients and Mr. Cady, one particular incident farther
provoked Stanton to seek rights for women. In this certain case an ex servant of the family was
attempting to regain property that she had purchased before her marriage. Apparently her deceased
husband had will the property to his son and the woman was left with nothing. Mr. Cady informed
the lady that even though she had purchased the property before wedding, that according to the
laws concerning wedlock, all property, earnings, and children were relinquished to the husband.
Elizabeth could not believe that the laws were so unjust and that there was nothing her father could
do to help the woman regain what was rightfully hers. Being a small child at the time, Stanton told
the client that she would search through every law book and cut out any laws that

The Tax Of The Cadillac Tax
Description The Cadillac tax is a popular name for the highly controversial excise tax on
applicable high cost employer sponsored insurance (ESI) coverage imposed under the Patient
Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Gravelle, 2015). Great debate ensued following the
proposal of this tax, which was initially set to be implemented in 2013, however differences in
opinion between the House of Representatives and the Senate culminated in the delay in the
implementation of this tax until 2018 (Herring, 2011). It is a nondeductible 40% excise tax on
the value of applicable employer sponsored health coverage that exceeds a determined threshold
(Lowry, 2015). The tax targets employer sponsored health coverage plans that are considered to
be overly generous or have relatively low cost sharing requirements in an effort to raise revenue
to offset the costs of implementing other ACA provisions, as well as encourage a reduction in
the growing expenditure and costs of national health care and offset some of the effects of the
income tax exclusion for ESI (Lowry, 2015). Applicable coverage for the purposes of the
Cadillac tax includes any coverage availed to an employee by an employer that is excludable from
an employee s gross income under section 106 of the IRC (Mach, 2015). Applicable coverage
includes, but is not restricted to an employee s contribution to heath insurance premiums, Health
care flexible spending account (FSA), Health savings account (HSA), Retiree coverage,

The Effect Of Automatic Processes Interfering With...
Whether your mom is telling you a list of chores to do while you are watching your favorite TV
show or studying for an exam in a noisy room, these are common occurrences that may be
affecting you in ways you don t realize. What people may not know is how these instances could
cause hindrances when processing information; this is an underlying problem and has been known
as interference. When you have attention on more than one thing you may be experiencing
interference and this can inhibit cognitive processes. The effects of automatic processes interfering
with controlled processes have been known to have been tested through something called a Stroop
experiment. The revolutionary study by, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown,
green, blue, and red in a color wordnaming task. Subjects had to say the color of the word while
it was printed in different color ink. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red.
They first did this using the colored words and then repeated the process with the words printed in
black. They found that the colored word condition suggested a 2.3s longer reaction timethan the
black word condition. This is due to the inference of automatic word reading in the color word
condition. Previous research also suggests that there can be interference with the use of the symbol
of an arrow or the written words right and left in an experiment conducted by, Baldo, Shimamura,
and Prinzmetal (1998). Their findings suggested

Speaking Incoherently Even though we spend a significant part of the day talking to one
another, speaking to an audience is a surprisingly difficult skill, and it s one that we need to
practice. If nerves make you rush through a presentation, your audience could miss your most
important points. Use cantering or deep breathing techniques to suppress the urge to rush. If
you do begin to babble, take a moment to collect yourself. Breathe deeply, and enunciate each
word clearly, while you focus on speaking more slowly. Showing a Lack of Dynamism Another
common mistake is to freeze in one spot for the duration of your presentation. Some presenters
feel most comfortable behind the podium. Try to emulate great speakers like Steve Jobs, who
moved purposefully around the stage during his presentations. Avoiding Eye Contact Have you
ever been to a presentation where the speaker spent all of his time looking at his notes, the
screen, the floor, or even at the ceiling? How did this make you feel? Meeting a person s gaze
establishes a personal connection, and even a quick glance can keep people engaged. If your
audience is small enough, try to make eye contact with each individual at least once. If the
audience is too large for this, try looking at people s foreheads. The individual may not interpret it
as eye contact, but those sitting around them will. RUSHING. Rushing

The Mystery of Ancient Civilization s Buidling of Massive...
Have you ever wondered how ancient civilization built massive structures? Many ancient
civilizations built things that served a multitude of purposes. Most of the purposes of these
structures are already known but, there still may be unknown uses for the thing these ancient
civilizations built. There also many different ancient civilizations like the Greeks, Romans,
Chinese, Egyptian, Mayans, and Aztecs. Many of the things built in ancient times influenced the
things that we build today. For example, the coliseum influenced the basic designs of modern
football stadiums. Also the designs made by these ancient civilizations helped to change the way
other civilizations made there monuments. For example, when the romans started to different
types of columns and arches the style was adopted, modified, and used in the designs of
cathedrals in Europe .There are many parts of these ancient buildings still undiscovered. For
example there could still be sealed rooms in the pyramids of Giza. Usually when people start to
research architecture made by ancient civilizations, they have to answer how were they built, and
what were they built for.
There were many things built in the period of ancient Greece that had many different uses. Ancient
Greeks were the first to build lighthouses. The first one was originally one of the Seven Wonders
of the World and was used to guide ships to shore. It used wicker lamps as a light source so the
light could only be seen from a few miles away. The

Crimes And Copyright Infringement And Illegal File Sharing...
Introduction
All crimes come in different forms. Computer related crimes are no different ( Most common
schemes: Identity crimes, 2009). In some computer based crimes, a computer is used to commit the
crime, such as in copyright infringement and illegal file sharing cases (Volonino, Anzaldua
Godwin, 2007, p. 67). To best investigate these crimes, an investigator must understand how to
preserve and authenticate all electronic evidence that pertains to the case (Volonino, Anzaldua
Godwin, 2007, p. 67). This training manual will provide an overview of copyright infringement and

Overview of the crime According to Volonino, Anzaldua and Godwin (2007), technological
advances have led to an increase in computer based crimes such as copyright infringement and
illegal file sharing (p. 66). Copyright infringement is defined as the copying, distribution or sharing
of copyrighted works, including music, videos, and digital copies of textbooks without permission
( Copyright Infringement and Illegal File Sharing, 2015). A common form of copyright
infringement is software piracy. This is when a person makes unauthorized copies of a software or
music file to share or transfer to other people ( Copyright Infringement Penalties, 2009). Some legal

Deep Ecology Essay
Whether its watching a whale jump up in the air and seeing him crashing back into the water, or
looking at all of the trees leafs changing colors in the fall time; nature is a beautiful thing. In the
past, traditional Native Americans once cared about the land. The grass, trees, rocks, and
everything else had value. Nowadays most people are moving away from these ideas and moving
towards a capitalist mindset, only caring about their own personal gain. Deep ecologyis defined as
an environmental movement and philosophy that regards humanlife as just one of many equal
components of a global ecosystem (Google). Arne Naess was a Norwegian philosopher who
coined the term Deep Ecology. It may seem very similar to traditional Native... Show more content

This could potentially lead to the human population becoming extinct. I m not saying this is going
to actually happen or be an immediate result of our actions but this is what the world is coming to.
The companies are the indirect problem in this issue. It s the population s demand that keeps these
companies going which makes us the direct source to the problem. Almost everyone is caught up in
the capitalist mentality, only caring about themselves and seeing how much money they can make.
And when that happens they go out and buy more products which have negatively affected the
environment. It s a vicious cycle that doesn t seem like it is coming to a stop anytime soon.

How Human Brain Works Essay
How the Human Brain Works
The human brain is one of the most amazing organs in a body and at the same time the most
mysterious. It is the control center of the body and it s important to understand the complexity of
the human brain. Although your brain functions as a whole, it consists of three main parts, The
Central Core, the Limbic System, and the Cerebral Cortex. Then those parts break into even smaller
parts. The brain is just like the computer, it depends on certain parts to work correctly and get every
day jobs and even more complex jobs done.
The Central Core The Central Core is the first of the three main parts of the brain. It is also broken
up into five main parts that help us do the everyday simple things in life like, ... Show more content

The Limbic system is separated in three parts, the Hippocampus, the Amygdala, and the
Hypothalamus. The Hippocampus s role is controlling emotion, learning, and memory; while the
Amygdala controls aggression, eating, drinking, and sexual behaviors. Then you have the
Hypothalamus which monitors the blood levels of glucose, salt, blood pressure, and hormones. It
also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic
nervous systems and endocrine system.
The Cerebral Cortex
The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into
two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes.
Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and
planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor
control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the
present to the future through purpose. The parietal lobe controls the sensory process, spatial
interpretation, attention, and language understanding. The occipital lobe controls the process of
visual information and passes its conclusions to the parietal and temporal lobes. This leads me to
the temporal lobe which assists in auditory perception, language comprehension, and visual
recognition.
If the central core, limbic system or cerebral cortex fails the brain will not be

does Bribery help or hurt Essay
Bribery in the business world is a very polemical term, where it involves the corruption between
the private sector and the government. The article Does bribery help or hurt firm growth around
the world? by Jessie Qi Zhou Mike W. Peng provides a good review and examination of how
bribery plays a role in the growing process of a firm and what implications or consequences it
can bring. The article brings two important points of view; the first one is focus on what levels
the firms have to use bribery in order to obtain benefits (which depends in what country the firm is
located), the second point is in what degree bribery will benefit or injured the development of the
company. These points are very accurate in the sense the article... Show more content on

Those rivals may not have to fear the possible legal consequences, if they hail from countries with
more permissive standards. Second, the Policy uncertainty is one of the key to show how it is
important to have well structure political strategy to regulate and control emerging economies. Also
the authors state that business regulations are often subject to constant change , creating a complex
situation for businesses to implement a long term planning. As respond for that kind of complexity,
bribery may be the most reliable tool to speed and facilitate important information from government
in order to be prepared for any new incoming event before other firms. Third, the Legal system
quality is the procedures where the government can effective monitor and prevent government
officials to be involved in any type of corruption. But again, the authors mention another
important principle the importance of transparency. Bribery is often observed in a government
where the check and balance system is weak. Second, it really looks like that bribery will always
be a benefit for the firm as long no one finds out. But the article expresses a different point of
view which I totally agree; perhaps bribery is not the best solution for every company. Going back
to example of Wal Mart, the company could be well established and developed in the United States;

Hatshepsut Accomplishments
Although the status of women in Egypt was higher than that of other civilizations, the idea of
women ruling as king over Egypt was not liked. She became the first women to become king in
Egyptian history. Leading the way for Cleopatra, Elizabeth I and Catherine the Great. Like many
other Egyptian rulers, her claim to fame was sought through marrying her half brother, Thutmose II.
Hatshepsutwas given the title of King, Pharaohof Egypt; she sought power and strength.
During her reign she started a building program to repair the damage done to the temples from
the Hyksos. A major difference between Hatshepsut and other leaders of Egypt, was her gender.
Hatshepsut was the first female to reign and claimed that she was chosen by the Egyptian god
Amun Ra. She tried to prove her effectiveness by dressing like a man and growing a beard,
however, still referred to herself as the female falcon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

referred to it as Most Sacred of Sacred Places, specifically for its beauty and its color.
When Hatshepsut s husband Thutmose II died, their son, Thutmose III was still of young age. This
allowed for Hatshepsut to have full regency over Egypt. Reigning over 7 years, until her son
became of age. During that time, she titled herself Pharaoh and claimed high status; only allowing
her son to claim a status under her. She thought that she had just as much a right to reign over

Similarly, the advertisement on page sixty four of the magazine uses an angelic/fairy tale theme
to introduce Secret Deodorant to the visually stimulated audience. In the center of the page, a
fairy like woman stands in the midst of a very surreal setting with stars and a light blue sky. By
using a woman who personifies a fairy, Secret manages to connect the new brand of Secret Violet
Dazzle with a mystical theme. The bright hues of purple and the naturalistic atmosphere, once
again, attract very young viewers to the product. Secret pictures a frail, flawless female to suggest
that varying types of women may use their product and still resemble the pure and enchanting
image. Thus, they incorporate the text When you re strong, you Sparkle, to show that by using their
product, one can eliminate the fear of smelling and sparkle with confidence. The advertisement
itself is very striking to the human eye. It s busy layout and choice in colors captivates those who
enjoy striking photography.
Unlike the Self Esteem and Secret Deodorant advertisements, which project a flirtatious and
heavenly attitude, Ralph Lauren s advertisement for the new scented hair collection portrays a
model with a sexually suggestive attitude. Ralph Lauren, a clothing line known for its natural yet
sexy look, attracts young females with the desire to be well known. Although the photography

Kubrick s Message Stanley Kubrick the director of Full Metal Jacket, left many classmates

experience of the Vietnam war. By using our critical thinking and media skills we can often
evaluate what the director is demonstrating and what message he s trying to project. The way the
scenes and scripts are structured can often give us a grip of what Kubrick wants us to perceive.
By analyzing this production it is obvious that he tries to notify the audience about the drawbacks
of Vietnam and any other war; where casualties involve. The way Kubrick begins the movie s
storyline by presenting an anti war perspective. He establishes the movie off with a scene where

The Historical Role Reversal Between The Democratic And...
The historical role reversal between the Democratic and Republican parties is a much
debated topic. There are questions on whether it actually did occur, if so, around what time
period, and for what reasons. There, in fact, was a role reversal and it occurred sometime
between the years 1928 and 1932. Reasons that may have sparked the switch could be
disagreement among party members, major issue disputes such as economy, rights, or even
money, all of which are evident in today s society. Based on the research stated throughout, the
most realistic reason that this phenomenon occurred was because of the failing economy and
extremely poor leadership in the white house.
The economy in the 1930 s was in a depression, which was the worst depression that the
United States has ever experienced. The stock market crashed, inflation was at an all time high,
gas prices rose, unemployment was at nearly 25 percent, and the U.S. Dollar was worth nearly
nothing. All of this followed by president Herbert Hoover who prolonged the suffering of the
United States economy. The people in the extremely poor cities that could no longer afford to
live in house or apartments became homeless and consequently built hoovervilles. Hoovervilles
were large congregations of homeless people. After Hoover s term as president, President
Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected and brought the economy back from the dead so to say. FDR

Summary Of The Poem Mirror By Sylvia Plath
The poem Mirror, by Sylvia Plath, was written in 1961. The poem takes place during a time when
women s reflections were changing quickly, and women s movement was becoming more
important. According to Kristine Tucker in The Overall Meaning of the Poem Mirror, she states,
The Mirror was written by SylviaPlath in 1961 but wasn t published until 1971, eight years after
her death by suicide. Therefore, presuming the lady in the mirror is Plath, readers assume she
wrote the poem referring to her personal life and her struggle with depression due to her appearance.
Sylvia Plath s poem Mirror is about a woman who gets older as the mirror watches her. At first, the
mirror is silver and exact (1). The mirror does not judge; however, it swallows what it sees and
reflects that image back (2). The mirror is also not cruel, only truthful (4), and considers itself a
four cornered eye of a god (5). Therefore, the mirror sees everything for what it is, and does not
lie. The mirror looks across the empty room most of the time (6) and meditates on the pink
speckled wall across from it (7). The mirror is attached to the wall, and has looked at that wall
for so long, that the wall is thought to be part of my heart (8). The darkness in the room and the
people who consider the mirror are the faces and darkness that separate the woman and the mirror
(9). In the next stanza, the mirror is now portraying itself as a lake (10). A woman is looking into
the lake (10), and she is

Nuclear Forensics and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office
Nuclear forensics is one of the two key elements of nuclear security. Nuclear forensics is the
analysis of seized contraband nuclear or radioactive material and any corresponding material in
order to provide evidence that will assist in identifying the source of the nuclear or radioactive
material and determine its point of origin (International Atomic Energy Agency, 2006). Nuclear
forensics also covers the use of the information gathered by the original analysis to determine the
routes of transit and any corresponding equipment. The process of nuclear forensics and evidence
gathered can ultimately to be instrumental in the prosecution of all those responsible (International
Atomic Energy Agency, 2006).
Domestic Nuclear Detection Office is the primary entity for nuclear detection in America. Detection
is another of the key elements the Department of Homeland Security focuses on improving
constantly, through the use of its Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, in order to continue to strive
towards fending off terrorist attacks, and providing protection for the American people as well as
assist in the international effort to enhance global nuclear security (Department of Homeland

favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a
stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He

character of John Bender, The Breakfast Club as a movie would really be missing that extra punch
that made it such a hit with all his funny comebacks and entertaining scenes lead by Bender. Claire

Influence Of Geography In The New England Colonies
Some colonies relied on their geography, some on their people, and some on both. New England
colonies relied on their people for trade because of their bad farmland. In the middle colonies
they needed their geography for farming which helped their economy grow from trade. In the
Southern Colonies their geography helped them grow crops on plantations to trade. All three
colonies they had skilled workers which affected their economy by not needing to trade certain
things but instead make those items themselves. The geography and people largely affected the
economy by what they had and who they were. The New England Colonies had lots of trees and
forests which worked out to their advantage because their soil was rocky and thin. There were
indentured servants and skilled workers that helped with the trade process by being able to
produce wood items from the forests and fish from the rivers. The geography of the New
England Colonies was not very good. The thin rocky soil reduced their chances of growing crop
to very little. They instead relied on the forest so they could trade wood and wooden items.
Massachusetts was covered in forests. This meant the colonists had plenty of lumber. The
Pilgrims were the first people to come to Massachusetts. They had no idea of how to survive.
Then the Puritans came and settled in a town they called Salem. The Puritans were strict about
their religion. There were skilled workers who could weave or build ships, some that knew how to

The Ways We Lie, By Ericsson
Most of the people lies and doublespeak when they are desperate to escape from situations that
they can t say the truth. For example, a dad can t say that his wife died to his children because
they can be shocked in a young age. In this book, The Ways We Lie , Ericsson talks about the
types of lies and how they are used. The other book, The World of Doublespeak, Lutz shows the
types of double speaking and the examples. A lieis a false statement or action especially made with
the intent to deceive and doublespeak is language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t.
Both of them are saying the false statement to someone but doublespeak is making the people to be

The Angry Black Woman
I am deeply interested in why Black women are received and portrayed as both angry and strong
Black Women. It may seem inexplicable that a respected black woman educator would stamp her
foot, jab her finger in someone s face and scream while trying to make a point on national television,
thereby reconfirming the notation that black women are irrationally angry. When confronted about
raceand gender, as a black woman I stand in a crooked room. I have to figure out which way is up.
Bombarded with warping images of humanity, I sometimes tilt and bend to fit the distortion.
From the single mother who complains about child support to the first lady of the United States, it
seems like Black women of all ages and classes have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When black women respond to racism they are responding with anger; the anger of exclusion, of
unquestioned privilege of racial distortions, of silence ill use, stereotyping, defensiveness,
misnaming, and of betrayal. Black women may have a well stocked arsenal of anger potentially
useful against those oppressions, personal and institutional, which brought that anger into being.
Focused with precision it can become a powerful source of energy serving progress and change.
Audre Lorde, The Uses of Anger: Women Responding to Racism (1981). The emotion which
accompanies the first steps toward liberation is, for most women, anger. Through the exercise
strength may be gained.
As a black woman I envisioned a new America in the 1990 s, anger may have been a vital
political tool. I was provided new perspectives, new understandings of oppressive conditions that
had previously remained unquestioned. I was introduced to my anger through relationships,
through individual and collective political consciousness; because the angry black women had
been theorized. Attention seemed to have been drawn to the anger of black women; it exposed
knowledge that had been buried and speech that had been silenced. Anger was a link to previous
suppressed histories, and a revolutionary coalition. I couldn t believe still can t how angry I can
become, from deep down and way back, it sometimes

The Importance Of Equality And Equality
We have shifted into an age of acceptance, diversity and equality. However we don t all agree the
best way to become equal. Many believe we should all be the same to be equal, some believe we
should be boosted to all have the same outcome, but in that they are giving different chances. This
is a long standing debate and it will take a society coming together and agreeing to fix these
issues. Whether or not we have the answer these ideas were explored by cell phone manufacturers
in recent years. With their two advertisements, they both share themes of acceptance and diversity,
however they have different ways of coming to that conclusion. Early in May of 2016, Googlehad
released an advertisement for their operating system, Android. This advert was the story of a
piece of paper on his first day as a new student in high school. This paper person walked into the
school and was immediately ostracized by the majority of the scissor students, they all glared at
him as he walked down the hall. Not having any reprieve he looked around and got hope when he
saw more paper people. He walked towards them, and they turned to him, exposing drawings on
them, implying they are bad paper people, and they are bullies in this school. They then proceeded
to assault him, hitting him with a spitball, pushing his books on the ground, shoving him down,
then shaking him for all of his paper clips. Then he opened his eyes from his punishment to see an
angry pair of scissorswalking his way. Scared

How Is Mesopotamia Similar
Writing Assignment Egypt and Mesopotamia both have similarities as well as differences. The
geography of the two civilizations are similar because a river plays an important part in their way
of living. They are different because Mesopotamia is divided into regions. The governments of the
two countries have large differences. The advances in technology and science were relatively
similar as well because both countries invented writing systems and irrigation systems.
In Egypt and Mesopotamia, the environments have extreme similarities. In Egypt, one of the
main areas in the environment is the Sahara Desert. The desert runs across the top of Africa
taking up a large part of Egypt. Because the dessert is so dry, people are not able to live there,
but it is useful because it keeps enemies and intruders out of the area. The Nile river is also very
important in Egypt. It starts south of Ethiopia and flows into the Mediterranean sea. The water
from the Nile makes it possible to grow crops. In Mesopotamia, the Tigris and Euphrates rivers
flow through most of Syria, which makes it similar to Egypt. Mesopotamia is divided into the
northern region and the southern region. The northern region consists of ... Show more content on

Summary Of Philip Larkin s Fiesta 1980
The way parents raise children may affect them while growing up and this will be transferred
over generations and it s most likely to never end. Being punished as a young child, life seemed
harsh and uneasy. The way parents would yell at you, tell you what to do, what not to do, and
they always seemed to have gotten in the way of doing what us children wanted to do but it
emotionally affects the personality of children while growing up for good or bad. In the poem
This Be The Verse by Philip Larkin, Larkin expresses his emotions in a strong and direct
lenguage towards his parents and the way they judge and blame him for it s mistakes. His strong
lenguage demonstrates with no doubt us that parents have a negative effect on their children and it
affects them drastically. Junot Diaz s short story Fiesta, 1980 gives an insight into the everyday
life of a lower class family, a family with a troubled young boy, Yunior and a strong, abusive father,
Papi. Bad parentchild relationships could lead to depression, low self steem and children could be
more prone to criminal behavior. Jamaica Kincaid s short story Girl illustrates gender
discrimination, receiving the instructions from her motheron how to behave and act to not be
judge. It illustrates the high level of submissive in women s there was in her culture.

Was Oj Simpson Guilty
Jonae Branyon

Mrs. B
Is OJ Simpson guilty? On November 9, 1994 the world was shocked when news stories and
articles began to surface about the murders of Nicole brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The
two were found dead in LA in Nicole s browns home. Detectives began looking for suspects who
could cause such a gruesome murder. Their first suspect was Orenthal Simpson also known as OJ
Simpson. Even though he was found not guilty after the trial, I believe he is guilty because there
were lost evidence during the trail, he was abusive towards Nicole Simpson during their marriage

were long term friends before the trial happen, of course rob Kardashian would lie for his friend
to keep him out of jail. The only thing that kept him out of jail was the fact that his hand didn t

he could have had an accomplice. The other evidence proved he was there but who said he had
to be the one wearing the glove? Oj Simpson had arthritis in both of his knees so he wouldn t be
able to overpower Ron Goldman on his own. But if had somebody else there to help him the both
of them would be able to overpower Ron Goldman and Nicole brown. Only oj Simpson would have
opportunity to do something like this to Nicole brown Simpson. Nobody else would have a way to

Post Impressionism Research Paper
The period of Impressionism and Post Impressionism embarks from ca. 1860 to 1910 CE. For the
Impressionists artists the main focus were the upper middle class, the city and restful activities.
They emphasized in the outdoors, parks, sky, star, sun etc. in hope to obtain directly the effects of
light and the atmosphere, this method was known as en plein air. This technique was influenced
by the Japanese art and photography. They used strokes and touches of pure colors mostly white,
almost never black. They were able to record or attain the shifting play of light on the surface of
the object they were working on. This method allowed the artist to record the effect light had on the
eyes of the spectator without concern for the physical aspect... Show more content on

The artist that practiced the postimpressionism went through an impressionist stage first, before
they evolved to the newly found method of postimpressionism. They all used palette while doing
their work of art, some even developed complicated scientific methods and other began to base their
art on their emotions something that has not being experimented before. Goerges Seurat was a
postimpressionist artist that painted the work titled A Sunday afternoon on the island of La Grande
Jatte, using the technique of divisionism or pointillism. By devoting himself to correct the idea of
impressionism he became known as avant garde, he thought impressionism was superficial and too
improvisational. Avant garde is a term that refers to those artist whose visual illustration would
allow society to be prepared to accept any social changes that the artist themselves envisioned for
society to faced. Seurat painted in an almost abstract way, by using juxtaposing small strokes of
unblended colors, this technique became known as pointillism. Paul Cezanne was another
postimpressionist artist that helped developed the modernist painting of the early twentieth century
His work made a great impact in the style known as cubism, by creating highly well thought out
paintings through methodical application of color that combined drawing and modeling into a single

Comparing Cummings The Enormous Room And Hemingway s
In The Autobiography of Alice B Toklas, Gertrude Stein mentions many artists and writers that
she had a relationship with. From artists like Picasso and CГ©zanne to writers like Hemingway
and E.E Cummings, Stein had a large yet interesting group of friends and even more interesting
things to say about them. She speaks the fondest of the people like Picasso who she likes best and
does not say much about other artists like CГ©zanne who she is not very fond of. E.E Cummings
Book The Enormous Room is not only original and interesting like Stein states, but it can be used to
better understand Steins The AutoBiography of Alice B. Toklas. In the last chapter of The
Autobiography of Alice B Toklas, Stein mentions both her s and Hemingway s opinions... Show

Cummings and Stein have more similarities than one thinks, for example, their writing styles are
both difficult to understand when first reading but they are both effective in conveying their
message whether their ways are unconventional or not. It is evident that Cummings background in
poetry influenced the prose style of his writing. For example chapter, two begins with I put the
bed roll down. I stood up. I was myself. (page 62). Not only does this resemble poetry because of
the imagery portrayed by just these few words but it also effectively conveys his message. They are
also similar in their writing styles because they both use portraits to portray the people that surround
them. While Cummings focuses on describing their physical appearance to paint a picture of both
the characters mental and physical state, stein uses the painters and writers work as well as their
physical appearance to paint this picture. Reading Cummings novel made it easier to understand
Steins writing style because they are both similar in the sense that they are both breaking the
mold by using unconventional punctuation and syntax. It also makes the reader appreciate it for
its uniqueness and in a way it is like art because she and Cummings both reject the traditional
autobiography format and make their writing their own. Stein uses Alice B. Toklas as her voice
and Cummings uses his narrator who he calls C. I also understand better why Stein chose a
different voice to write this piece that can be considered her autobiography just as much as it can
be considered Toklas . It is because it give a different kind of authority to this writing and makes it
seem less

Sow By Sylvia Plath Analysis
In Sylvia Plath s Sow , a narrator describes a Brobdingnagian female pig. The language of the
poem repeatedly emphasizes the sheer size of the sow, the narrator and neighbor s perceptions,
and the reader s perceptions. Although the language in Plath s Sow presents the sow as enormous
in the reader s, neighbor s, and narrator s perception, it actually symbolizes the sow as both a
gigantic pig and a mythological creature. It cannot be denied that the poem s language reflects the
neighbor s and narrator s perception and consequently determines the reader s. In line 2, the sow is
described as great , suggesting its sheer vastness. The neighbors and the narrator also gape at it in
line 10, further emphasizing its enormity. Their perception... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In line 1, the narrator states God only knows , implying that the sow is divinely designed and
therefore above human comprehension. This amazement reflects the confusion and bewilderment
in the neighbor s and narrator s perception, thus determining the reader s perception of the portrayal
of the sow. This divine diction is further evident when the narrator describes the barns as a maze.
This image alludes to Greek Mythology s Daedalus, a magnificent engineer who designed the Greek
Labyrinth. This labyrinth contained the enormous and terrifying Minotaur, much like the farmer s
barn maze containing this Brobdingnagian sow. The narrator s diction then switches to ordinary
diction, regarding food and money. These meager images increase the sow s greatness by providing
contrast and thus shifting the reader s perception of it. These contrasts also help shape the theme s
emphasis on its mythological and legendary status. Additionally, the greatness of the sow is
furthered as the narrator describes the image and allusion to a magnificent boar goring a knight and
subsequently mounting the sow. This image parallels with other species of animals fighting to the
death so that it may be desirable to a mate. This image continues to contribute not only to the
collective perception but to the theme as a whole; the

The Totalitarian Regime In Nazi Germany
The totalitarian regime in the Nazi State from 1933 to 1945 bestowed Hitler incredible status and
power, most of which was manipulated into the ubiquitous representations of the Nazi state who
cemented fear and acquiescence among the German populace. However, despite the terror instilled
within Hitler s established regime, allegiance to the Furher dwindled as groups successfully
resisted the ideology of Nazism. Thence, his monolithic totalitarianism continued to idolize fear as
a weapon which played a vital role in the Third Reich as resistance occurred from social democrats
and communists, the youth, Christian churches and conservative military groups.
Authoritarianism was the driving force behind the terror that encompassed the German nation ...

Margaret Sanger Struggles Analysis
Margaret Sanger s Struggles and Barriers Margaret Sanger s obsession with population control by
the use of birth control can be linked back to her own home and family. Sanger was one of the

containing fewer children and poverty and aggression with larger families. Sanger was exposed to

After seeing her family and mother struggle with un wanted pregnancies and miscarriages Sanger
began to believe that these issues may have caused the death of her mother. In the 1910 s 1920 s

Heritage parks aim is to expand the business and their objectives are to fill up all their business
and room spaces, increase the awareness of the existence of the hotel and to increase the
wedding trade as well as other special occasions. The achievement of these aims and objectives
may be supported by the online presence because tourists and companies on business trips may be
looking for a hotel in the area that specialises in various activities. Since the hotel has a wide range
of amenities they can cover the majority of their customers interests and for business meetings the
hotel has rooms especially designed for the purpose.
The online presence of the hotel means that the customers can actually see pictures of the hotel,
leisure centre, bedrooms, restaurant and business rooms giving the customer an idea from where
they are sat rather than having to visit the hotel first. Online booking is effective as it is a much
quicker way of bringing money into the business. Customer feedback and guest books will give
new customers a brief view on what previous customers have thought of the hotel and whether it is
a good hotel or not.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Breast Cancer
INTRODUCTION
BREAST cancer is currently the most common cancer affecting women worldwide [1]. In
European women, it is the leading cause of cancer death, causing one in six of all deaths from
cancers [2].In the U.S., a woman has a 12.15% (about one in eight) risk of developing breast cancer
during her lifetime[3].
Mammography is one of the most reliable and effective methods for detecting breast cancer at it
early stages [4]. In developed countries, population based mammography screening programs have
been implemented [1]. Women are encouraged to participatein regular breast examinations through

Blue Bacteria Lab Report
There was a mix up with placement of the Plasmid containing Bacteria (experiment s culture) and
control bacteria. The experiment s culture was place in the jar with no ampicillin. As a result,
bacteria with plasmid grew as well as bacteria without plasmid. However, it is possible to identify
the transformed culture because of the blue marker.
On the other hand, the control cells do not have the plasmids with ampicillin resistance and blue
marker so the population of bacteria cells are fewer in the jars with jars with ampicillin and they do
not have blue bacteria.
DISCUSSION
Plasmid DNA is negative and bacterium s cell wall is negatively charged. Thus, as DNA
approaches the cell wall it is repelled. The calcium chloride neutralizes the charge of the bacterium
and DNA therefore allowing the Bacterium cell wall to be in close proximity to a plasmid DNA.
The bacterium undergoes heat shock which is technique of place a bacterium in extreme

Nevertheless, the evidence is successful at proving the transformation of bacteria is possible
because some cell took in the lac Z gene containing plasmid and were able to produce beta
galactosidase as a consequence turned blue. There seem to be an equal proportion of blue colony
to cells without plasmids. Without ampicillin degradation, there is an excess of bacteria without

  • 2. The Massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his Explorers in... Two events took place in the mid 19th century in the United States that set the stage for a third which became an historic turning point in American history. The settlement of Mormons in Utah and their pursuit to establish their own government coupled with explorations to develop the transcontinental railroad laid the groundwork for the massacre of Captain John Gunnison and his explorers in 1853 which took eight lives. As massacres go, the loss of eight people was not numerically remarkable. What made the Gunnison Massacre exceptional is that it catapulted into the American conscious. Both Mormons and American Indians entered the spotlight of American attention, and the resulting outrage forever changed American sentiment and government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Corps described the topography, route, buildings and culture of an assigned survey area, made sketches of routes and distances, noted important observations, and kept a journal of daily movements when the army was on the march. To accomplish this, such an expedition team would typically include surveyors, a geologist, botanist, astronomer, meteorologist and an artist. Transcontinental railroad After the United States acquired so much more territory, the push for expansion accelerated and spurred development of an American transcontinental railroad line. The California Gold Rush of 1848 fanned the flames of westward exploration and settlement. One of the biggest challenges was finding the most suitable route. Businessmen were eager to expand their horizons and capitalize on new western markets. In 1845, an early proponent of a transcontinental railroad, Asa Whitney, led an exploratory team along the route he envisioned from Chicago to northern California. As a highly successful dry goods merchant and locomotive manufacturer in New Rochelle, New York, Whitney traveled widely to solicit support from other businessmen and politicians. He proposed selling land to settlers along the route to finance construction. Whitney printed maps and pamphlets and submitted several proposals to Congress. He was thwarted, however, by southern business interests who opposed his plan because they would not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Indoor Air Quality And Environmental Health Essay Indoor Air Quality and Environmental Health Indoor air quality (IAQ) refers only to the quality of the ambient air in an interior environment. On average, people spend well over half of their time inside, and research has shown that indoor air in buildings can be more contaminated than outdoor air. The majority of people that work in non industrial buildings such as offices, schools, and hospitals are exposed daily to poor IAQ. Indoor air pollution (IAP) continually ranks among the top five environmental risks to public health. Therefore, IAP is a critical factor of the safety and well being of the population. This paper explores IAP in context, the health risks related to poor air quality, the burden of disease from household air pollution, guidelines for environmental infection control in healthcare facilities, and how to improve IAP. Indoor Environmental Quality Indoor environmental quality (IEQ), comprises the quality of a building s environment concerning the wellbeing and health of those who occupy the space. Many factors contribute to the IEQ such as air quality, lighting, and damp conditions. People usually experience symptoms or health conditions from exposures to contaminants while they are indoor. One of the reasons why IEQ is a primary concern is because some people that experience symptoms while indoors usually get better when they are not in the building. Indoor environments are incredibly complex, and building occupants may be exposed to a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Bill Of Rights And The Constitution Before dealing with individual amendments I would like to deal with the entire Bill of Rights and the constitution itself. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much power to the federal government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it to the capital but would interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most local level possible. It was impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr news and the ability to fly around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I believe it is more necessary to make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws of the land. In 1833, the Supreme Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was written out of fear by the Antifederalist to constrain the federal government. We have given the individual States the power to make laws that conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of other states and national norms. It is these contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law should be formulated at the highest level and filter down to the lowest. Make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the total law of the land and no other law in any state may contradict them to ensure the beginnings of equality among all citizens. The First Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Did The Influence Of Hinduism During The Vedic Era It is widely known that the Vedic Era was one of the most influential time periods in ancient history. This is largely due to how the composition of the Vedas was made during this time, which was an essential set of texts that greatly shaped Hinduism. This impact on Hinduism however would not been a success without Sanskrit. During this time Sanskrit was able to completely change the method of communication and along with having influence on the Vedasand Hinduism, Sanskrit, most likely arriving from outside of Indiaencountered Ancient Asia, specifically during the beginning of the Vedic Era, became central to South Asian culture, language and religion by 500 BCE. Other influences of Sanskrit can be observed through culture, language, and belief systems. The Vedic Era can be described best as the time period when the Vedas were being composed. This took place between 1500 500 BCE. Although the Vedic Era is famous for the composition of The Vedas, a series of texts essential to Hinduism, it is also known for the development of the Sanskrit language and other valuable advancements that further influenced the history of India and the surrounding areas. Some of these valuable advancements include mathematics, especially algebra and geometry, as well as early astronomy and planetary observations, many of which can be found in the historical Vedic texts. • 6. Comparing Black And Blue, And They Wear The Mask Black And Blue , by Louis Armstrong and We Wear The Mask , by Paul Laurence Dunbar both take a further meaning in a profound way of Ellison s work. Louis Armstrong poetically writes what did I do? Tell me, what did I do to be so black and blue? The way in which it flows suggests that Armstrong brings what happens in society (desegregation) and incorporates it into his lyrics. The tempo of the song makes me question, was he sad or happy. Are the lyrics making him out to be black or white? Black and Blue is a completely different concept and teaching from We Wear The Mask , being that they want to hide their emotions with a different face. Armstrong sings I m white on the inside, but that doesn t help my case Cause I can t hide what is on my face his emotions pour out of emptiness on the inside and he can t help but show it on face.... Ender regretted his action as he felt he was the one to blame. Ender definitely felt regretful when he killed the Bugger specimen. • 8. Portrayal Of Mental Illness In Black Swan Lake I decided to watch the movie Black Swan for the mental illness portion of the culture badge. The movie portrays a number of mental illness including obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorder, and psychosis. Nina, the protagonist in the movie, is a fragile and repressed ballerina. She strives for the lead in Tchaikovsky s SwanLake, a role that requires her to play both the gentle white swan and the seductive black swan. While she is the perfect representation of the white swan, she is also far from the image of the black swan. After winning the part, stress mounts on Nina to fulfill her role as the black swan. She experiences unwanted sexual advances from her director, jealousy from other ballerinas, as well as increasing conflict from her over controlling mom as she tried to assert her autonomy. As stress and anxiety increase, Nina begins to experience psychotic breaks in which the lines between reality and hallucination blurs, culminating in a shocking ending relating to her embracing the Black Swan persona.... In the experiences Stanton witnessed between clients and Mr. Cady, one particular incident farther provoked Stanton to seek rights for women. In this certain case an ex servant of the family was attempting to regain property that she had purchased before her marriage. Apparently her deceased husband had will the property to his son and the woman was left with nothing. Mr. Cady informed the lady that even though she had purchased the property before wedding, that according to the laws concerning wedlock, all property, earnings, and children were relinquished to the husband. • 15. The Tax Of The Cadillac Tax Description The Cadillac tax is a popular name for the highly controversial excise tax on applicable high cost employer sponsored insurance (ESI) coverage imposed under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) (Gravelle, 2015). Great debate ensued following the proposal of this tax, which was initially set to be implemented in 2013, however differences in opinion between the House of Representatives and the Senate culminated in the delay in the implementation of this tax until 2018 (Herring, 2011). It is a nondeductible 40% excise tax on the value of applicable employer sponsored health coverage that exceeds a determined threshold (Lowry, 2015). The tax targets employer sponsored health coverage plans that are considered to be overly generous or have relatively low cost sharing requirements in an effort to raise revenue to offset the costs of implementing other ACA provisions, as well as encourage a reduction in the growing expenditure and costs of national health care and offset some of the effects of the income tax exclusion for ESI (Lowry, 2015). Applicable coverage for the purposes of the Cadillac tax includes any coverage availed to an employee by an employer that is excludable from an employee s gross income under section 106 of the IRC (Mach, 2015). Applicable coverage includes, but is not restricted to an employee s contribution to heath insurance premiums, Health care flexible spending account (FSA), Health savings account (HSA), Retiree coverage, ... The effects of automatic processes interfering with controlled processes have been known to have been tested through something called a Stroop experiment. The revolutionary study by, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red in a color wordnaming task. Subjects had to say the color of the word while it was printed in different color ink. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red. They first did this using the colored words and then repeated the process with the words printed in black. They found that the colored word condition suggested a 2.3s longer reaction timethan the black word condition. This is due to the inference of automatic word reading in the color word condition. Previous research also suggests that there can be interference with the use of the symbol of an arrow or the written words right and left in an experiment conducted by, Baldo, Shimamura, and Prinzmetal (1998). The author makes it where we expect something totally different then what`s about to happen. Also I think the author uses it to tell the story better. I think this because in the beginning of the story all the people were excited because Casey was coming up to bat like they were screaming his name and everything. So that makes the reader think he`s a big deal because everyone is going crazy when Casey steps up to the plate. Speaking Incoherently Even though we spend a significant part of the day talking to one another, speaking to an audience is a surprisingly difficult skill, and it s one that we need to practice. If nerves make you rush through a presentation, your audience could miss your most important points. Use cantering or deep breathing techniques to suppress the urge to rush. If you do begin to babble, take a moment to collect yourself. Breathe deeply, and enunciate each word clearly, while you focus on speaking more slowly. Showing a Lack of Dynamism Another common mistake is to freeze in one spot for the duration of your presentation. Some presenters feel most comfortable behind the podium. Try to emulate great speakers like Steve Jobs, who moved purposefully around the stage during his presentations. Avoiding Eye Contact Have you ever been to a presentation where the speaker spent all of his time looking at his notes, the screen, the floor, or even at the ceiling? How did this make you feel? Meeting a person s gaze establishes a personal connection, and even a quick glance can keep people engaged. Many ancient civilizations built things that served a multitude of purposes. Most of the purposes of these structures are already known but, there still may be unknown uses for the thing these ancient civilizations built. There also many different ancient civilizations like the Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Egyptian, Mayans, and Aztecs. Many of the things built in ancient times influenced the things that we build today. For example, the coliseum influenced the basic designs of modern football stadiums. Also the designs made by these ancient civilizations helped to change the way other civilizations made there monuments. For example, when the romans started to different types of columns and arches the style was adopted, modified, and used in the designs of cathedrals in Europe .There are many parts of these ancient buildings still undiscovered. For example there could still be sealed rooms in the pyramids of Giza. Usually when people start to research architecture made by ancient civilizations, they have to answer how were they built, and what were they built for. There were many things built in the period of ancient Greece that had many different uses. Ancient Greeks were the first to build lighthouses. It also helps to control the processes in the body through its connection to the central and autonomic nervous systems and endocrine system. The Cerebral Cortex The Cerebral Cortex directs the brain s higher cognitive and emotional functions. It is divided into two equal halves called cerebral hemispheres. Each hemisphere has the same four areas called lobes. Areas in the lobes control all forms of conscious experience, perception, emotion, thought, and planning, as well as many unconscious and emotional processes. The frontal lobe helps in motor control and cognitive activities, like planning, making decisions, setting goals, and relating the present to the future through purpose. There are questions on whether it actually did occur, if so, around what time period, and for what reasons. There, in fact, was a role reversal and it occurred sometime between the years 1928 and 1932. Reasons that may have sparked the switch could be disagreement among party members, major issue disputes such as economy, rights, or even money, all of which are evident in today s society. Based on the research stated throughout, the most realistic reason that this phenomenon occurred was because of the failing economy and extremely poor leadership in the white house. The economy in the 1930 s was in a depression, which was the worst depression that the United States has ever experienced. The stock market crashed, inflation was at an all time high, gas prices rose, unemployment was at nearly 25 percent, and the U.S. Dollar was worth nearly nothing. All of this followed by president Herbert Hoover who prolonged the suffering of the United States economy. The people in the extremely poor cities that could no longer afford to live in house or apartments became homeless and consequently built hoovervilles. Out of the 10 Songs used in the movie only 1 is decent (Don t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds) and even I don t like it while the rest of the songs to say the least are quite rubbish unless you absolutely LOVED both the movie and the 80 s music scene then you d probably not like it. In my own opinion I believe that this movie is run on its own characterization as it IS about stereotypes at school. I d like to start on describing my personal favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He talks with confidence as he says what he pleases to either to annoy or anger others for his own amusement and when he has to, stand up for what/who he believes in. Judd Nelson acted out the character of John brilliantly as you can really imagine Judd in real life truly acting this way as he has given such a realistic performance that is both entertaining and true. I believe that without the character of John Bender, The Breakfast Club as a movie would really be missing that extra punch that made it such a hit with all his funny comebacks and entertaining scenes lead by Bender. • 37. Influence Of Geography In The New England Colonies Some colonies relied on their geography, some on their people, and some on both. New England colonies relied on their people for trade because of their bad farmland. In the middle colonies they needed their geography for farming which helped their economy grow from trade. In the Southern Colonies their geography helped them grow crops on plantations to trade. All three colonies they had skilled workers which affected their economy by not needing to trade certain things but instead make those items themselves. The geography and people largely affected the economy by what they had and who they were. The New England Colonies had lots of trees and forests which worked out to their advantage because their soil was rocky and thin. There were indentured servants and skilled workers that helped with the trade process by being able to produce wood items from the forests and fish from the rivers. The geography of the New England Colonies was not very good. The thin rocky soil reduced their chances of growing crop to very little. They instead relied on the forest so they could trade wood and wooden items. Massachusetts was covered in forests. This meant the colonists had plenty of lumber. The Pilgrims were the first people to come to Massachusetts. They had no idea of how to survive. Then the Puritans came and settled in a town they called Salem. The Puritans were strict about their religion. There were skilled workers who could weave or build ships, some that knew how to farm, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this book, The Ways We Lie , Ericsson talks about the types of lies and how they are used. The other book, The World of Doublespeak, Lutz shows the types of double speaking and the examples. A lieis a false statement or action especially made with the intent to deceive and doublespeak is language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t. It may seem inexplicable that a respected black woman educator would stamp her foot, jab her finger in someone s face and scream while trying to make a point on national television, thereby reconfirming the notation that black women are irrationally angry. When confronted about raceand gender, as a black woman I stand in a crooked room. I have to figure out which way is up. Focused with precision it can become a powerful source of energy serving progress and change. Audre Lorde, The Uses of Anger: Women Responding to Racism (1981). The emotion which accompanies the first steps toward liberation is, for most women, anger. Through the exercise strength may be gained. As a black woman I envisioned a new America in the 1990 s, anger may have been a vital political tool. I was provided new perspectives, new understandings of oppressive conditions that had previously remained unquestioned. I was introduced to my anger through relationships, through individual and collective political consciousness; because the angry black women had been theorized. Attention seemed to have been drawn to the anger of black women; it exposed knowledge that had been buried and speech that had been silenced. It is evident that Cummings background in poetry influenced the prose style of his writing. For example chapter, two begins with I put the bed roll down. I stood up. I was myself. (page 62). Not only does this resemble poetry because of the imagery portrayed by just these few words but it also effectively conveys his message. They are also similar in their writing styles because they both use portraits to portray the people that surround them. While Cummings focuses on describing their physical appearance to paint a picture of both the characters mental and physical state, stein uses the painters and writers work as well as their physical appearance to paint this picture. Reading Cummings novel made it easier to understand Steins writing style because they are both similar in the sense that they are both breaking the mold by using unconventional punctuation and syntax. It also makes the reader appreciate it for its uniqueness and in a way it is like art because she and Cummings both reject the traditional autobiography format and make their writing their own. This labyrinth contained the enormous and terrifying Minotaur, much like the farmer s barn maze containing this Brobdingnagian sow. The narrator s diction then switches to ordinary diction, regarding food and money. These meager images increase the sow s greatness by providing contrast and thus shifting the reader s perception of it.
