The Disadvantages Of Sexual Diversity Of Reproducing Species
One advantage of sexual reproduction is that these organisms generally have greater genetic
diversity. Organisms who reproduce asexually, on the other hand, are essentially clones of each
other. This means that their predators can adapt to hunt them easily. The diversity of sexually
reproducing organisms allows them to stay a step ahead of their predators because of their genetic
variations and their ability to adapt via natural selection (Brockmyre 2015).
The Red Queen Hypothesis states that species must keep evolving to keep up. It is based on a
quote from Through the Looking Glass: It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same
place. Predators are evolving to best hunt their prey so the prey must keep evolving to survive
(Brockmyre 2015).
Robert Vrijenhoek observed these processes in topminnows. The ponds where these fish live
include fish that reproduce sexually and fish that produce assexually. This population is affected
by parasites that cause black spot disease. He found that more of the assexual fish were afftected
than the sexual fish. This is because when the parasites were able to effeccrively attack one
assexual fish, they could attack all of them as they are clones. This didn t apply to sexually
producing fish as they were all different ( The Red Queen 2001). Sexual reproduction has caused
monogamy in some species. In these species, it is essential for the father to help raise the young,
but the father won t help unless he believes that the

President Hoover s New Deal Essay
Prosperity is just around the corner, President Herbert Hoover announces, as the country fell into
the Great Depression of the 1930s. Unable to recognize citizens, Hoover was kicked out of office
and Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected as president, which resulted the start of great social upheaval
through the presentation of the New Deal. The New Deal ran from 1933 to 1937 under two stages.
First, he set about offering relief to its people, then after 1935, he set profound agendas for social
reform, which was specifically a socio economic reform agenda that was made up of a host of
legislative initiatives and government programs, launched by President Roosevelt supported by
Congress in response to Great Depression. The New Deal composed of the three R s: relief for
those Americans unemployed, recovery towards the economy allowing businesses to operate
again, and reform economy in preventing replicating situations. President Roosevelt s New Deal
was guided by four principles, set of ideas and beliefs that formed the New Deal Agenda, which
were to balance production and consumption, reform capitalism, to alleviate the inequalities of
wealth, and to counterbalance the power of big corporation with government programs and public
interest. The New Deal is significant because programs and initiatives were created in providing
channels for the working people to gain more access to work. In order to transform society, the
New Deal constructed a sense of economic prosperity

(9) Social research helps п¬Ѓnd answers to social problems. They explain social phenomena and
seek solution to social problems. (10) Research leads to a new style of life and makes it
delightful and glorious . Emphasizing the importance of research Louis Pasteur said I beseech
you to take interest in these sacred domains called laboratories. Ask that there be more and that
they be adorned for these are the temples of the future, wealth and well being. It is here that
humanity will learn to read progress and individual harmony in the works of nature, while
humanity s own works are all too often those of babarism, fanaticism and destruction. (Louis

Ancient Egypt History
Egyptian History Egypt is a county whose history dates back to at least 2600 BCE. With that
long of a timeline, it is easy to understand how diverse and interesting their history is. The main
part of Egypt s history has been divided into three main sections, the Old kingdom, the Middle
Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. Each kingdom has it s own stories to tell that make it
completely different from the last. From the culture to the pharaohs that were ruling and even the
innovations that they were able to achieve, each kingdom was able to flourish in it s own way. The
Old Kingdom of Egyptis believed to have started around 2686 BCE and have lasted to around
2180 BCE (Duiker). The capital of the Old Kingdom is believed to have been in Memphis. During
this time, according to stories passed down through tradition, Egypt consisted of many populated
areas that were all ruled by tribal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Middle Kingdom is believed to have started around 2055 BCE and ended around 1650 BCE
(Duiker) when Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II was able to reunited Upper and Lower Egypt
(Metropolitan). He not only did this to bring the country together as one land, but also for political
reasons (Duiker). The Middle Kingdom showed an age of transformation with the capital being
moved to Thebes (Metropolitan). Art was also transformed during this time. They were able to
produce sculptures and monuments out of large stones (Giotto). These would be dedicated to the
god like figures and the pharaohs. Another advancement was that of writing. Writing had already
began toward the end of the Old Kingdom for records, but now it was used to record and tell the
stories that were normally passed down through generations orally. The Egyptians also learned how
to use the Nile River to their advantage. They were able to use its flooding to help provide the soil
with nutrients and they also developed irrigation techniques to help increase their agriculture output

Robotic Rehabilitation
The advantages robotic systems could provide to human rehabilitation processes are promising:
not only they could help therapists by increasing the duration of the rehabilitation exercises, but
also they could enhance their quality through a precise control of the motion applied by the
robot to the patient cite{qian2015}. Another useful features of a robotic systems represents the
possibility to record very precise kinematic and kinetic information during the rehabilitation
process, and finally they make possible to adapt the exercise to the particular stage of the
individual cite{robertson2010}. Many works deal with robotic lower extremity rehabilitation,
cite{diaz2011}. In cite{girone1999} a six degree of freedom Steward platform for sprained
ankle rehabilitation was developed. More recently, in cite{rastegarpanah2016} a six degrees of
freedom parallel manipulator was proposed for lower limb rehabilitation exercises. Considering
that the cost of the robotic system is one of the critical factors, lower mobility mechanisms have
been proposed. Ref. cite{dai2004} proposed two different parallel manipulators for ankle
rehabilitation, the first one with three degrees of freedom was composed by three SPS legs and a
central strut which is fixed on the base platform, and joined with the moving... Show more content

Specific tests have been developed to detect it. The two most recognized are: the Lachman Test

The Development Of Qin Shi Huang In China
Power. It is a concept that has always been part of human societies regardless of time period or
area. Though expressed in different ways and structures, it was and still is part of human
civilizations today. However, within the establishments of power, many conflicts arise for both
those in power and those governed by the rulers, such as problems over the selection of new
authority figures and the retainment of their power. This conflict can be recognized from the ruling
of Qin Shi Huangin China in the mid 200s BC. He is well known for uniting the Chinese states
during the Warring States Period, in which the country was broken up into states that were in a war
for dominance (Mark). Shi Huang ultimately founded the Qin Dynasty and worked to improve
humanity by helping construct the Great Wall for defense and the Lingqu Canal for commerce
(Mark). However, he later began to threaten those who refused to comply with his ideas, and he
became more concerned with becoming immortal and keeping his power (Szczepanski).
Due to his obsessive desire over the idea of immortality and maintaining his imperial status in the
afterlife, Qin Shi Huang decided to recreate the entire Chinese empire underground as his tomb
(Szczepanski). About 700,000 laborers were hired to build this mausoleum over a course of 36
years; more than 8,000 unique, life size terracotta soldiers as well as horses, chariots, jewelry, and
ritual ships were created ( Qin Tomb ). These terracotta soldiers each had

Sarbanes-Oxley Act Analysis
Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002 With the fall of Enron, WorldCom, and several other major
corporations in the late 1990 s, the need for transparency and accountability in accounting was
brought to the forefront for investor s and board member s alike. Paul Sarbanes, a former senator
from Maryland, and Mike Oxley, a former member of the House of Representatives from Ohio,
together created what is now known as the most important legislation since the 1930 s (Litvak,
2014). This bill, also known as the Public Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection
Act, changed the way companies that offer public securities did business. No longer would a
publicly offered company get to create and govern its internal controls; they would now be

Many venture capitalistic companies did not or financially could not comply with the new
regulations and requirements provided for in the act, so they took their companies to the private
sector, no longer offering shares on the public exchange (Ecer Kahlid, 2013). The main
disadvantage to companies regarding SOX is Section 404, the internal controls portion of the act.
The major complaint the requirements of section 404 are new, radical and ill considered (Gupta,
Weirich, Turner, 2012). The internal controls section requires companies to report on their internal
control structure and procedures for financial reporting through annual audits, which for small
companies is very costly. However, in 2010, the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer
Protection Act allowed for the permanent exemption of issuers with a market value of less than
$75 million from the Section 404 of the SOX negating this disadvantage, at least for these non
accelerated firms. The additional time needed to implement the requirements of SOX caused issues
as well, impacting those small firms the hardest. In addition, investors of foreign companies were
not happy with the new regulations of SOX and an estimated loss of five to ten percent of market
capital occurred (Litvak,

Self-Esteem And Self Esteemcy
Build their self esteem, self determination and efficacy
From the different challenges identified, it was established that adolescent girls were often
confronted with many identity conflicts and low self esteem. It was during the adolescent stage that
many girls experience new societal expectations and responsibilities, which often resulted in
identity confusion or internal conflict that needed to be resolved during adolescence. Consequently,
the best ways of engaging girls were to first build their self esteem, self determination, self efficacy
and confidence. According to Powell (2004), by being supportive and giving tasks and challenges
that raise self esteem, adolescent girls may be able to have success in school and develop self
motivation. Powell (2004) stressed the need for supportive environments and the need to allow
adolescents to develop their own unique identities. According to Erickson (1968), adolescents were
often at the fifth psychosocial stage of human development. This stage was called Identity versus
Identity Confusion. According to Erickson, if adolescents were not allowed to explore their new
roles and follow a future positive path, they may remain confused about their identity. Resolving
conflicts during adolescence, according to Erickson, assists adolescents to become who they would
be, unique individual, progressing further into higher developmental stages. Erickson noted that for
adolescents to become autonomous, their self concept and self esteem

How Is Betrayal Shown In 1984
Betrayal is the breaking or violation of a trust, and often it is seen as an act of disloyalty with
unrecoverable consequences. In the fictional novel 1984, by George Orwell, the author uses
betrayal as a recurring theme which is highlighted throughout the book. The existence of fear causes
individual character s betrayal to the others as the government controls every aspect of the society
and destroys trust among its citizens. It demonstrates that how no amount of love or loyalty to
someone could overcome the Big Brother in the society which the book describes. Through the
continuation of this abnormal society, Winston faces with the ultimate betrayal against himself. In
the totalitarian society of Oceania, citizens live in a fear as wherever... Show more content on

Winston s betrayal to Julia is the event that caused his own self betrayal. After O Brien

after Winston finds out that he could easily betray Julia, he accepts the Big Brother in the

Call Of Duty Zombies Essay
Call of Duty Zombies is a side game mode developed by Treyarch. It was introduced as a game
mode after you beat campaign in Call of Duty World at War. Its first map was named Nacht Der
Untoten, German for night of the living dead. It was based off the map airfield. It featured a
player which survive endless hordes of zombies until they die. They had to get points by killing
zombies and rebuilding barriers. With points you could by doors and points. When more maps
were made we got perks, drinks that power up the player. The game mode was just for fun until
the released the 3rd DLC pack for World at War. The new map Der Riese or The Giant made a
story. The Zombiesstory is interesting topic that just reached a end in 2016 with its final map,
Revelations.
The Giant gave us more information about our four characters Richtofen, Dempsey, Nikolai, and
Takeo. We learn that the zombieoutbreak started when Richtofen and group 935 try to make an
undead army to help the Nazi s win World War II. Instead the test subjects turn against the scientists.
When Richtofen tries to kill his partner, Dr. Maxis and his daughter Samantha, they teleport to
different places. Maxis becomes a robot and Samantha walks into Agartha, the device that lets
people control the zombies. Years later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Alternative Energy Can Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels
Alternative Energy Can Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels
In the U.S. alone, carbon dioxide emission levels have risen thirty percent since 2005. If the
emissions continue to rise at this pace, the temperature of the Earth may rise by at most, thirteen
degrees. Temperatures rising to that height could cause chaos across the world. With more and
more people burning fossil fuels every day, this unfortunate future is likely to occur. Fortunately,
using pollution free alternative energy could alter this problem. Developments for alternative
energy use are already being implemented today. Scientists across the world are working to make
alternative energy more efficient in performance and cost. While alternative energy is becoming
more and more fit for use in the everyday lives of people across the world, fossil fuels are still
being promoted and used at a frightening pace. Fossil fuels are causing constant increases of
pollution and the unnerving reality of global warming. Alternative energy would promote a clean,
100 percent pollution free source of obtaining energy, provide less cost to the consumers that
utilize it, and work at an even greater efficiency than fossil fuels. With the possible, frightening
reality of global warming creating a massive threat to humans, the opportunity for alternative
energy to replace fossil fuels is better than ever. Alternative energy, unlike fossil fuels, are
renewable. They also can obtain energy all over the world from an

China Human Rights Violations Essay
China s Human Rights Violations in Tibet In 1950, China sent 40,000 Chinese troops, ironically
known as the People s Liberation Army , to invade a relatively large and peaceful country named
Tibet for their abundant resources. Due to this national crisis, the position of the 14th Dalai Lama
was given to Tenzin Gyatso ( Birth to Exile ). Over the next few decades, Chinas harassment of
Tibet caused a myriad of problems, such as famines, the destruction of many sacred Buddhist
monasteries and other cultural sites, etc. Thirty year after the initial Chinese invasion, the people of
Tibet protested out of outrage that nothing has changed for thirty years, to which China responded
with brutal force to stop the protesters. Due to the Dalai Lama s... Show more content on

Since the beginning of this nightmare, China s involvement has been a significant human rights
violation. First of all, China has driven the Dalai Lama out of his own country and has forced
him to leave his people. To Tibetans and Buddhists, the Dalai Lama is both a spiritual and
political leader ... like a cross between a Pope and a President (Oliver, 2017). Traditionally, before
the Dalai Lama dies, he must find his reincarnation, the Panchen Lama, who finds his
reincarnation, the Dalai Lama, before he dies and so on. Furthermore, the Dalai Lama picked a
six year old boy to become the next Panchen Lama and then China kidnapped [the] six year old
and no one has heard from him since (Oliver, 2017). Not only is this horrifying truth a human
rights violation, but it has also completely destroyed a long lasting and sacred tradition. According
to the current Dalai Lama, it will be impossible for Tibetans and those who follow the Tibetan
Buddhist tradition to acknowledge or accept [the next Panchen Lama] ( Reincarnation , 2011).
Currently, China has a great firewall, called the Golden Shield Project, that censors information on
various items that negatively talks about China. Many people in China are protesting against these
heinous acts on Tibet, even though the Golden Shield Project is preventing many from learning
what is happening in Tibet ( The Great Firewall of China: Background ). China s destruction of this
peaceful religion and culture is clearly against the policies of the United Nations Humans Rights

The Role Of Race In Major League Baseball

have something to be excited about. For those struggling clubs, September brings opportunity to
see the future of their teams get a shot in the big leagues as rosters are expanded from 25 to 40.
For teams in the American League, the 2nd Wild Card looks completely wide open (ten teams
are within 10 games of that spot, currently held by the Texas Rangers). For the Kansas City
Royals, they are just getting ready for October, as they have a 12.5 game lead over Minnesota in
the very poor AL Central.
The National League has a great revitalization story, the New York Mets, and a great race in the
NL West between those old rivals (the Dodgers and the Giants), but the real story in 2015 has
been the dominance of the National League Central. The St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates,
and Chicago Cubs (yes, Back to the Future fans, this is really happening in 2015) have created a
race that is fortunately saved by the 2nd Wild Card, otherwise an outstanding team wouldn t even

was on the fourth page. According to the text, the author writes, I stand, my nose so close to the

The Assault Rifle Ban
If the government would take a more rapid pace in a full assault weapon ban, then the murder
rate in the country would drop dramatically. The U.S. has one of the highest murder rates for
developed countries such as Japan who has a murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people and Britain
with a 1.2 per 100,000 people. The U.S. has a murder rate of 4.7 per 100,000 people and it is not
getting any better. A ban on assault rifles would have a positive effect on the murder rate.
Assault rifles are known to be the most dangerous firearm in the world because of its rapid fire
capability and its deadly range and damage. That is what makes it such a unique and interesting
weapon that should not be taken lightly. The government has been working on some bills but they
are not putting enough work into making it happen. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is in charge of
the processes of the ban, is suggesting is that the government passes a bill that will limit the
capacity of ammunition in a magazine and ban assault weapons that are too dangerous for public
use. The safety of U.S. citizens is vital and banning assault rifles will help make the United States a
safer place.
Assault rifles are defined as one of the most dangerous firearms. The government is working to
try to solve the assault weapons crisis, a problem is what they need to ban and what do they need
to limit. There is a large debate on what is classified as an assault weapon some argue that it is a
weapon that is fully automatic.

Case Study Of CorkD
Cork d started as a seeming innovative social media powerhouse for wine lovers and producers.
However, its past owners did not feel they could effectively run the network. Wine appreciator,
Gary Vaynerchuk, bought the network because he wanted to build a community, one that was more
specialized than any other social media like Facebook for other wineworshipers like him. With this,
he could establish connections that join the wine consumers and the wine producers, such as
vineyards, to help others better connect with their passions. On a greater level, however,
Vaynerchuk also desired to connect those who love wine with the wineries that create it. Cork d
would allow this by incentivizing wineries, with a wine devoted base, to pay a sum of... Show more

The first of three issues the network was obligated to focus on was customer acquisition. The
growth of users, both individuals and wineries, on the network is what supported the growth of the
network and community. In fact, without the user base, there would be no growth of the network
and no revenue generation. It was evident that neither Vaynerchuk nor Ronga knew how to draw
individual users or wineries to the network and consistently reinforce growth in this area. In
particular, there was a lack of understanding of the growth relationship of individual users and
wineries such as balancing recruiting efforts and the ability to grow the two groups simultaneously.
Also, the resources that were used in the case of recruiting were heavily dedicated to recruiting
wineries and not even with individual users. Though, they had periods of strong user and winery
growth that were defined by the marketing strategies that they used. However, it was not enough in
drawing long term growth of the network. Thus, equivalent strategies surrounding individual users
and wineries should have been present in the Cork d case.
The ongoing method to recruit wineries and individual users alike did not involve appealing to their
customers. Many of the wineries hoped for metrics to understand the benefit that the network might
have for them. However, the network was unable to provide the data and therefore did not properly
incentivize wineries

Symbols In The Glass Castle
The Glass Castle is a memoir by Jeanette Walls in which she tells the story of her childhood and
the way she became who she is. Her path to her balanced present was too difficult and full of
hardships, yet she managed to become a successful and prosperous person whose life experience
gives her a push to make her life happy. It stands to mention that the novel is full of symbols which
contribute to reader s understanding of Jeanette s character and represent her most important traits
and desires. Besides, all the symbols such as the fire, the Joshua tree, the geode and the glass castle
are recurring and contribute to understanding the struggle of Jeanette s childhood, her ability to
overcome it and build a successful life. Fire is an important symbolin the novel as it occurs

Despite the fact that she almost dies in a fire cooking hot dogs, she does not fear it and even
admires it instead. Jeanette likes to play with matches and candles, and in the episode in the
hotel bathroom, she flushes burning matches into the toilet. It clearly shows how she tries to
gain control over it as one can t live in fear of something as basic as fire . Jeanette chooses to
keep it under control thus trying to control her own life. However, she understands that fire is
stronger than she is as she waits for something to go wrong: . . . what I did know was that I lived
in a world that at any moment could erupt into fire . As a matter of interest, Jeanette s father

experiment with flammable materials or in the hotel bathroom. One of the main reasons of Jeanette

The Proliferation Of Crises Around The World
The proliferation of crises around the world has led to a prominent increase in the fascination, as
well as interest, in the concept of social entrepreneurship . In today s society, this concept has
inspired numerous individuals to pursue a career being social entrepreneur as it promises to solve
some of the world s toughest problems while earning money and gaining social status. That being
said, these are often the individuals/agencies that are exempted from public examination as they are
seen doing valuable work . With that in mind, Daniela Papi Thornton (2016) in her article, Tackling

Consequently, this has led to an era of heropreneurship in which many individuals inspire to

with a social purpose . Nonetheless, while heropreneurship can be seen as an inspiring and exciting
era, there is room for further improvement. First, due to heropreneurship, the line between quick
solutions and progress has been blurred. While tackling these problems is considered a noble deed
and personally valuable, many individuals are not working towards solving the root of the problems
that occur in the affected countries. Rupert Scofield (2011) in his text, The Social Entrepreneurs

individuals often prioritize short term solutions and disguise it as a long term because they do not
fully understand all aspects of the problem. It is important to realize that implementing successful
and sustainable solutions involves hard work. Investigating the root cause of the problem, as well
as researching existing solutions and their strengths and weaknesses is critical when attempting to

Steven LEvitt, the author of Freakonomics focuses on the theme that one should regularly question
conventional wisdom in chapter three. However, the conclusion of this chapter does not reflect the
same sentiment, and is therefore not effective in terms of cementing the theme. Levitt closes this
chapter with a discussion about how crack cocaine affected the black communities of the United
States. This is not the presented theme at the exposition of the chapter (111 113). However, Levitt
does briefly mention another example of when conventional wisdom was wrong, but it proves
unsubstantial as an effective conclusion for such a powerful message (112). Although the ending of
chapter three does not uphold Levitt s original message, it does provide a smooth and
comprehensive transition to the next chapter about crime. In this way, the discussion of black
people s wellbeing is effective with regards Levitt s intentions. Overall, chapter three of
Freakonomics questions authority and common knowledge which is a very powerful and important

My Concept Of Accounting Profession
Prior to the trip to DC, I believed that a picture is worth a thousand words and thus expected that
our on site observation of the government s operation and the direct interaction with the field
experts, influencers, and government officials would broaden my view towards the tax accounting
profession. Gratefully, as a result of the trip, my concept of accounting profession was
revolutionized from one that is simply adopting regulations to one that is proactively making a
positive impact on all levels and through various venues of the regulatory system. This one week
symposium was such an eye opening experience for me in gaining insight into the U.S. political
system, economic reality, the relationship of businesses and public policy, and the leading issues in
this emerging economy. Started with a strong ground breaking, professor Jeffrey Weinberg taught
us the fundamentals of U.S. legislative parties, policy making process, and the uniqueness of our
current political system in which President Obama is a Democrat and the majority of the House
and the Senate is Republican. The philosophical difference between the two parties is that
Democrats prefer a high level of taxing to fund welfare programs, whereas Republicans emphasize
low taxrates for the fairness of the society. The Honorable Mickey Edwards, the former House of
Representative, expressed that compromising is the art of closing the gap between the two political
parties for the betterment of the society. Finding

What Is The Theme Of Society In Fahrenheit 451
As society progresses, technology and customs often progress proportionally. Social customs, and
the way a group of people function as a whole are often altered by significant events or a change
in societal variables. Occasionally, this leads to situations in which certain facets of society begin
to drastically differ from their original form. Take for example, the abolition of slavery in the
United States in 1865. Slavery had been a vastly unchallenged component of American society until
that point (excluding the period of abolition efforts). When this changed, the government had to
implement a number of laws that reversed prior legislation concerning slavery. In many ways, Ray
Bradburys fictional society in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451mirrors this by presenting a
repressive community in which many factors contribute to mass apathy and a passive state of
perpetual passive occupation. Social contact is central to human happiness, but as our technology
increases in its proficiency, there tends to be a disconnect in interpersonal contact. This feature of
society is predicted 64 years ahead of time, and is highlighted frequently throughout the book,
manifested in Mildred s ear seashells and talking walls for entertainment. On a walk with Montag,
Clarisse mentions that she is often ostracized from her peers due to her antisocial tendencies.
However, the audience must pause to consider what she means by antisocial here to fully grasp the

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Presidential Candidates
The Strengths and Weaknesses of the System of Choosing Presidential Candidates
It seems reasonable to conjecture that the Achilles heel of the modern presidency is one of
recruitment. The long winded delegate nomination process could in theory be replaced by a
daylong direct election of presidential candidates. Instead, tradition dictates that the presidential
race is drawn out quadrennially over the pre primary, primary, Party Convention and campaign
seasons. All four phases influence the outcome of candidate selection and much also depends on
campaign finance, the role of the media and the nominees themselves.
Although the process is considered a complex, drawn out affair in the eyes of ... Show more content

In Caucuses, the power to select delegates, who are sent to nominate presidential candidates at
the National Party Convention, rests with Party activists who meet first at a local, then county
and finally at a state level to make their choices. The caucus system propounds the strength of the
Party elite who have an overriding influence as to who is chosen. As Ragsdale observed (1993,
p.95), the system tended to be dominated and controlled by party bosses, as deals were cut in
smoke filled rooms, rather than by ordinary rank and file members. This was far from democratic,
and since the controversy surrounding Humphrey s nomination for the Democratic Party in 1968,
the McGovern Fraser Commission established reforms which saw the advent of the Media
Primary. Since 1972, this procedure has become the system with gravitas: 77% of the votes cast by
Republican delegates in 1988 came from those selected by primaries. These state wide intra party
elections mean that any supporters can vote for a nominee to send to the National Convention and
although these elected delegates still formally select the presidential candidate, it is rarely more
than a ratification of the preferences expressed by ordinary voters. This encouraged a higher level
of political participation, as voters could feel a part of the decision making process. Some
primaries, such as Michigan State, saw a significantly

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary horror means a very strong feeling of fear, dread,

ethics and darkness come together creating horror in the perspective that no one in the story was
a good person . Meaning that no one was morally and ethically a virtuous individual based off of
the ideas and descriptions of a morally good person in the Bible. At the beginning of Heart of
Darkness, Marlow states, You know I hate, detest, and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter

The Relevancy of Ethnomusicology to the Study of British Folk Music
Ethnomusicology has an image problem. Insofar as anyone has heard of ethnomusicologists at all,
there is a fairly common feeling (and not unjustified, bearing in mind what ethnomusicologists
collectively seem to do) that ethnomusicology is, exclusively, the study of non Western musics.
Actually, this isn t so. Ethnomusicologists study Western traditions also, albeit not in huge numbers
in Britain but even here, our sparseness in the study of local traditions is probably no more marked
than our sparseness in the study of overseas traditions. (There are just two British

perspective of the native informant . The ethnomusicologist was as interested in, say, an Egyptian s
musicology i.e., his explanations and understandings of music as in his music itself. Adoption of
the term signalled a departure from previous research, where it had often been assumed that there
was no native theory. The comparative musicologist (or at least his caricature) had simply (or not
so simply, when we think of old recording technology) remained in his laboratory where he amassed
an archive of wax cylinders and the like. Sitting down (in an armchair, according to most
stereotypes) he (less often, she) then wrote out the music and studied the resulting notation in order
to produce theories about what was going on.
The ethnomusicologist, on the other hand, is himself (and more and more, herself) a collector as
well as an analyst. The model of collection, however, was not that of earlier scholars like Cecil
Sharp, Percy Grainger or Bela Bartok. Rather than ranging widely, but quickly, across a broad
region, the ethnomusicologist was supposed to gather materials through participant observation .

Managerial And Behavioural Theory Of The Firm
Introduction
With the roots of the neoclassical theory of the firm dating back to the 1770 s and some of the
more recent developments being some 80 years ago, it is understandable that economists have
begun to question how applicable the Neoclassical theory of the firm is to present day
corporations. (Lipczynski, Wilson, Goddard, 2009) Managerial and behavioural theories have been
developed with the intention of providing a more realistic insight into how contemporary
organisations function. This paper will address how the managerial and behavioural theories differ
to the neoclassical approach of the firm, and to what extent they enhance our understanding of

At its most basic, neoclassical is reliant upon the surrounding market conditions controlling the
decisions of firms. The Neoclassical approach to the firm provides us with a market wide
framework from which we can make predictions on future outcomes.
During the eighteenth century economic thinking was heavily influenced by the growing textile
industry, where the majority of suppliers were producing homogenous products; leaving no motive
for the economic theory being developed to account for diverse market conditions. (Lipczynski,
Wilson, Goddard, 2009) According to The Modern Corporation and Private Property Revised
Edition (1969) written by Berle and Means, out of The 200 Largest Non Financial Corporations in
the United States the number classed as Management Controlled increased from 88 to 169 from
1929 to 1963 respectively. (Berle and Means, 1968) Amidst the globalisation of firms and the rise
of the stock exchange, firms have become more complex and there ownership has become more
diluted. The supermarket industry is an example of how firms have become more multifaceted;
selling thousands of heterogeneous products, buying from countless suppliers and being owned by
whoever chooses to buy shares on the stock exchange. Due to firms increasing in both size and

Bob Fosse s 1972 Cabaret
Prior to World War I, German cinema was a thriving industry being seen across Europe and North
America. Various European cultures of the 1920s embraced new ideas and artistic styles called
expressionism that focused on experimental fields of expression and looking into the future. In
Bob Fosse s 1972 musical Cabaret, the flamboyant world of art appears under the intimidating Nazi
era. This film follows the German Expressionismtrend as seen through its avant garde style and
sense of emotion. The editing techniques, featured art, and deeper meaning all testify to the German
Expressionismera.
During the 1920s, German Expressionism emerged because of the number of related artistic
movements beginning in Germany that reached an all time high in Berlin, where nightlife was
booming. These expressive movements impressed the multicultural European culture in fields such
as: architecture, painting, sculpting, and film. A crucial notion in the movement was to portray the
world in an emotionally distorted perspective to evoke different moods and participate in new
philosophies. Physical reality was not a concern during this movement. Popular story plots of the
Expressionist films often involved situations concerning madness, betrayal, and insanity, all which
can be found in Cabaret. This obscure style of filmmaking was brought to America when the Nazis
gained political power and a number of German filmmakers immigrated to Hollywood.
Bob Fosse s Cabaret, stars Liza Minnelli in the

The Holistic Approach Of Education
The conceptual map, figure: 2.2 provides the summary of this discretion in a schematic form.
The Holistic Approach in Education Holistic education stands clear that learners, need a wide range
of skills to transform their lives, and that of others around them. Certainly educating children is not
a matter of flooding the market needs and fulfillment. According to Singh (2007), in the progressive
changing world, learners need the capability to deal with the indeterminable future. In point of fact,
a conventional wisdom pinpoints that a holistic education approach tackles all aspects of human
challenges (p. 107) in life. Then, he went on to ask, whether an education, support learners to create
capability, a useful key factor for the reconstruction of any country. The education system, scarcely
provides learners for instance, with skills for commendable eating habit. That, in turn leads to the
other question, of how often the education offers learners with the knowledge of avoiding the
consumption of alcohol, tobacco, or drug that may ruin their health (Singh, 2007). A few
aforementioned examples represent a segment of problems among others that children face daily,
but not offered in their learning process. Schools should not create receivers of fresh ideas, as a
substitute, instead support learners to ask questions in their learning process. Singh (2007)
continues to argue that education should support learners in the creation of strong body and mind
for thinking,

Egypt Open Door Policy
In The Committee by Sun Allah Ibrahim, the open door policy has resulted in an economic and
social dependency on the Western world as Egyptians pride themselves in using American and
European commodities and global ideals they believe will enrich and improve their lives and
country; however, in reality these are detrimental to their society. Through the diversification of
Western commodities into Egypt, Egyptians lose their self sufficiency and nationalist values,
allowing the Western world to exploit Egyptian resources and profit through globalization. Egyptian
society rejects their own domestic products as a result of an obsession for the West and
diversification of commodities from around the world, giving them numerous other options to...

The narrator passes by a street vendor selling consumers warm Cokes on a heated day at,
[double] the listed price on the pretext of imaginary ice (Ibrahim 137). By saying the vendor
doubled price for imaginary ice , shows the vendor is deceitful and exploits people s money by
selling them beverages in poor condition. He represents a society entranced by the idea of
individual economic prosperity, to the point of committing fraud and crime. Also, the vendor
serves as a middleman between Egypt and the Western world. While the vendor makes a small
profit from selling overpriced American beverages to Egyptian consumers, the real benefactors
are the United States and Western World that profit from the sales of many Egyptian sellers. In
the long run, the vendor destroys his nation s economy by selling Egyptians foreign goods
instead of domestic goods because the profit flows back to the Western world, not Egypt. Like
the vendor selling Coke, the privatization of public services has allowed the educated and
wealthy to capitalize on profits when the average and poor people become sick. The narrator

  • 2. The Disadvantages Of Sexual Diversity Of Reproducing Species One advantage of sexual reproduction is that these organisms generally have greater genetic diversity. Organisms who reproduce asexually, on the other hand, are essentially clones of each other. This means that their predators can adapt to hunt them easily. The diversity of sexually reproducing organisms allows them to stay a step ahead of their predators because of their genetic variations and their ability to adapt via natural selection (Brockmyre 2015). The Red Queen Hypothesis states that species must keep evolving to keep up. It is based on a quote from Through the Looking Glass: It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. Predators are evolving to best hunt their prey so the prey must keep evolving to survive (Brockmyre 2015). Robert Vrijenhoek observed these processes in topminnows. The ponds where these fish live include fish that reproduce sexually and fish that produce assexually. This population is affected by parasites that cause black spot disease. He found that more of the assexual fish were afftected than the sexual fish. This is because when the parasites were able to effeccrively attack one assexual fish, they could attack all of them as they are clones. This didn t apply to sexually producing fish as they were all different ( The Red Queen 2001). Sexual reproduction has caused monogamy in some species. In these species, it is essential for the father to help raise the young, but the father won t help unless he believes that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. President Hoover s New Deal Essay Prosperity is just around the corner, President Herbert Hoover announces, as the country fell into the Great Depression of the 1930s. Unable to recognize citizens, Hoover was kicked out of office and Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected as president, which resulted the start of great social upheaval through the presentation of the New Deal. The New Deal ran from 1933 to 1937 under two stages. First, he set about offering relief to its people, then after 1935, he set profound agendas for social reform, which was specifically a socio economic reform agenda that was made up of a host of legislative initiatives and government programs, launched by President Roosevelt supported by Congress in response to Great Depression. The New Deal composed of the three R s: relief for those Americans unemployed, recovery towards the economy allowing businesses to operate again, and reform economy in preventing replicating situations. President Roosevelt s New Deal was guided by four principles, set of ideas and beliefs that formed the New Deal Agenda, which were to balance production and consumption, reform capitalism, to alleviate the inequalities of wealth, and to counterbalance the power of big corporation with government programs and public interest. The New Deal is significant because programs and initiatives were created in providing channels for the working people to gain more access to work. • 5. Ancient Egypt History Egyptian History Egypt is a county whose history dates back to at least 2600 BCE. With that long of a timeline, it is easy to understand how diverse and interesting their history is. The main part of Egypt s history has been divided into three main sections, the Old kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. Each kingdom has it s own stories to tell that make it completely different from the last. From the culture to the pharaohs that were ruling and even the innovations that they were able to achieve, each kingdom was able to flourish in it s own way. The Old Kingdom of Egyptis believed to have started around 2686 BCE and have lasted to around 2180 BCE (Duiker). The capital of the Old Kingdom is believed to have been in Memphis. The Middle Kingdom is believed to have started around 2055 BCE and ended around 1650 BCE (Duiker) when Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II was able to reunited Upper and Lower Egypt (Metropolitan). The Middle Kingdom showed an age of transformation with the capital being moved to Thebes (Metropolitan). Art was also transformed during this time. They were able to produce sculptures and monuments out of large stones (Giotto). These would be dedicated to the god like figures and the pharaohs. Another advancement was that of writing. Writing had already began toward the end of the Old Kingdom for records, but now it was used to record and tell the stories that were normally passed down through generations orally. The Egyptians also learned how to use the Nile River to their advantage. • 7. The Development Of Qin Shi Huang In China Power. It is a concept that has always been part of human societies regardless of time period or area. Though expressed in different ways and structures, it was and still is part of human civilizations today. However, within the establishments of power, many conflicts arise for both those in power and those governed by the rulers, such as problems over the selection of new authority figures and the retainment of their power. This conflict can be recognized from the ruling of Qin Shi Huangin China in the mid 200s BC. He is well known for uniting the Chinese states during the Warring States Period, in which the country was broken up into states that were in a war for dominance (Mark). Shi Huang ultimately founded the Qin Dynasty and worked to improve humanity by helping construct the Great Wall for defense and the Lingqu Canal for commerce (Mark). However, he later began to threaten those who refused to comply with his ideas, and he became more concerned with becoming immortal and keeping his power (Szczepanski). Due to his obsessive desire over the idea of immortality and maintaining his imperial status in the afterlife, Qin Shi Huang decided to recreate the entire Chinese empire underground as his tomb (Szczepanski). About 700,000 laborers were hired to build this mausoleum over a course of 36 years; more than 8,000 unique, life size terracotta soldiers as well as horses, chariots, jewelry, and ritual ships were created ( Qin Tomb ). Many venture capitalistic companies did not or financially could not comply with the new regulations and requirements provided for in the act, so they took their companies to the private sector, no longer offering shares on the public exchange (Ecer Kahlid, 2013). The main disadvantage to companies regarding SOX is Section 404, the internal controls portion of the act. The major complaint the requirements of section 404 are new, radical and ill considered (Gupta, Weirich, Turner, 2012). The internal controls section requires companies to report on their internal control structure and procedures for financial reporting through annual audits, which for small companies is very costly. However, in 2010, the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act allowed for the permanent exemption of issuers with a market value of less than $75 million from the Section 404 of the SOX negating this disadvantage, at least for these non accelerated firms. Self-Esteem And Self Esteemcy Build their self esteem, self determination and efficacy From the different challenges identified, it was established that adolescent girls were often confronted with many identity conflicts and low self esteem. It was during the adolescent stage that many girls experience new societal expectations and responsibilities, which often resulted in identity confusion or internal conflict that needed to be resolved during adolescence. Consequently, the best ways of engaging girls were to first build their self esteem, self determination, self efficacy and confidence. According to Powell (2004), by being supportive and giving tasks and challenges that raise self esteem, adolescent girls may be able to have success in school and develop self motivation. Powell (2004) stressed the need for supportive environments and the need to allow adolescents to develop their own unique identities. According to Erickson (1968), adolescents were often at the fifth psychosocial stage of human development. This stage was called Identity versus Identity Confusion. According to Erickson, if adolescents were not allowed to explore their new roles and follow a future positive path, they may remain confused about their identity. Alternative Energy Can Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels Alternative Energy Can Effectively Replace Fossil Fuels In the U.S. alone, carbon dioxide emission levels have risen thirty percent since 2005. If the emissions continue to rise at this pace, the temperature of the Earth may rise by at most, thirteen degrees. Temperatures rising to that height could cause chaos across the world. With more and more people burning fossil fuels every day, this unfortunate future is likely to occur. Fortunately, using pollution free alternative energy could alter this problem. Developments for alternative energy use are already being implemented today. Scientists across the world are working to make alternative energy more efficient in performance and cost. Steven LEvitt, the author of Freakonomics focuses on the theme that one should regularly question conventional wisdom in chapter three. However, the conclusion of this chapter does not reflect the same sentiment, and is therefore not effective in terms of cementing the theme. Levitt closes this chapter with a discussion about how crack cocaine affected the black communities of the United States. This is not the presented theme at the exposition of the chapter (111 113). However, Levitt does briefly mention another example of when conventional wisdom was wrong, but it proves unsubstantial as an effective conclusion for such a powerful message (112). Although the ending of chapter three does not uphold Levitt s original message, it does provide a smooth and comprehensive transition to the next chapter about crime. In this way, the discussion of black people s wellbeing is effective with regards Levitt s intentions. Overall, chapter three of Freakonomics questions authority and common knowledge which is a very powerful and important concept to pursue. • 28. My Concept Of Accounting Profession Prior to the trip to DC, I believed that a picture is worth a thousand words and thus expected that our on site observation of the government s operation and the direct interaction with the field experts, influencers, and government officials would broaden my view towards the tax accounting profession. Gratefully, as a result of the trip, my concept of accounting profession was revolutionized from one that is simply adopting regulations to one that is proactively making a positive impact on all levels and through various venues of the regulatory system. This one week symposium was such an eye opening experience for me in gaining insight into the U.S. political system, economic reality, the relationship of businesses and public policy, and the leading issues in this emerging economy. Started with a strong ground breaking, professor Jeffrey Weinberg taught us the fundamentals of U.S. legislative parties, policy making process, and the uniqueness of our current political system in which President Obama is a Democrat and the majority of the House and the Senate is Republican. The philosophical difference between the two parties is that Democrats prefer a high level of taxing to fund welfare programs, whereas Republicans emphasize low taxrates for the fairness of the society. The Honorable Mickey Edwards, the former House of Representative, expressed that compromising is the art of closing the gap between the two political parties for the betterment of the society. • 29. What Is The Theme Of Society In Fahrenheit 451 As society progresses, technology and customs often progress proportionally. Social customs, and the way a group of people function as a whole are often altered by significant events or a change in societal variables. Occasionally, this leads to situations in which certain facets of society begin to drastically differ from their original form. Take for example, the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865. Slavery had been a vastly unchallenged component of American society until that point (excluding the period of abolition efforts). When this changed, the government had to implement a number of laws that reversed prior legislation concerning slavery. In many ways, Ray Bradburys fictional society in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451mirrors this by presenting a repressive community in which many factors contribute to mass apathy and a passive state of perpetual passive occupation. Social contact is central to human happiness, but as our technology increases in its proficiency, there tends to be a disconnect in interpersonal contact. This feature of society is predicted 64 years ahead of time, and is highlighted frequently throughout the book, manifested in Mildred s ear seashells and talking walls for entertainment. On a walk with Montag, Clarisse mentions that she is often ostracized from her peers due to her antisocial tendencies. However, the audience must pause to consider what she means by antisocial here to fully grasp the gravity and relevance of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Presidential Candidates The Strengths and Weaknesses of the System of Choosing Presidential Candidates It seems reasonable to conjecture that the Achilles heel of the modern presidency is one of recruitment. The long winded delegate nomination process could in theory be replaced by a daylong direct election of presidential candidates. Instead, tradition dictates that the presidential race is drawn out quadrennially over the pre primary, primary, Party Convention and campaign seasons. All four phases influence the outcome of candidate selection and much also depends on campaign finance, the role of the media and the nominees themselves. In Caucuses, the power to select delegates, who are sent to nominate presidential candidates at the National Party Convention, rests with Party activists who meet first at a local, then county and finally at a state level to make their choices. The caucus system propounds the strength of the Party elite who have an overriding influence as to who is chosen. As Ragsdale observed (1993, p.95), the system tended to be dominated and controlled by party bosses, as deals were cut in smoke filled rooms, rather than by ordinary rank and file members. This was far from democratic, and since the controversy surrounding Humphrey s nomination for the Democratic Party in 1968, the McGovern Fraser Commission established reforms which saw the advent of the Media Primary. Since 1972, this procedure has become the system with gravitas: 77% of the votes cast by Republican delegates in 1988 came from those selected by primaries. These state wide intra party elections mean that any supporters can vote for a nominee to send to the National Convention and although these elected delegates still formally select the presidential candidate, it is rarely more than a ratification of the preferences expressed by ordinary voters. This encouraged a higher level of political participation, as voters could feel a part of the decision making process. Some primaries, such as Michigan State, saw a significantly ... In the short novel Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad, we find out how immoral ethics and darkness come together creating horror in the perspective that no one in the story was a good person . Meaning that no one was morally and ethically a virtuous individual based off of the ideas and descriptions of a morally good person in the Bible. At the beginning of Heart of Darkness, Marlow states, You know I hate, detest, and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but simply because it appalls me... Insofar as anyone has heard of ethnomusicologists at all, there is a fairly common feeling (and not unjustified, bearing in mind what ethnomusicologists collectively seem to do) that ethnomusicology is, exclusively, the study of non Western musics. Actually, this isn t so. Ethnomusicologists study Western traditions also, albeit not in huge numbers in Britain but even here, our sparseness in the study of local traditions is probably no more marked than our sparseness in the study of overseas traditions. Adoption of the term signalled a departure from previous research, where it had often been assumed that there was no native theory. The comparative musicologist (or at least his caricature) had simply (or not so simply, when we think of old recording technology) remained in his laboratory where he amassed an archive of wax cylinders and the like. Sitting down (in an armchair, according to most stereotypes) he (less often, she) then wrote out the music and studied the resulting notation in order to produce theories about what was going on.
