Thesis Statement Of Infosys
Infosys dedication to giving back can be understand by the way that the organization turned into

divisions, including social insurance, training, society, down and out consideration and provincial
advancement. Obviously, my reasoning was affected from the years I worked at the Tata Group.

requested that his wife head it. In the most recent 17 years, Infosys has given Rs 20 25 cr

Wind, Earthquake And Its Effect On The Earthquake Essay
Unlike wind, earthquake is a different phenomenon which generates a ground motion. The
intensity or acceleration of the earthquake depends upon the magnitude and location of its
epicenter. The seismic waves caused by the earthquake cause inertial forces in the building. The
inertial forces are created when an outside force tries to move a body in rest which happens in
this case as seismic waves tries the move the building in rest. We all know that when a building is
subjected to inertial forces it should obey the newton s second law of motion.
F=M.a (3)
Where F is inertial force and M denotes mass of building and a is the acceleration with which the
building is moved due to seismic activity.
Duration, velocity and displacement:
From the newton s second law, it is evident that acceleration is a key factor in determining the
forces on a building. But there is one more criteria that we have to look into is the duration of the
earthquake. Earthquake that has moderate acceleration, sustained over time, can cause much more
damage to buildings than a single much larger peak. It weakens the building structure and reduces
its durability. The strong motion duration is often termed as bracketed duration (Arnold 2013). This
is the shaking duration above a certain threshold acceleration value, which is 0.05g, and is defined
as the time between the first and last peaks of motion that exceeds this threshold value (Arnold
2013). The strong motion

The Great Leaps Westward
The reasoning behind the studies the RGA wanted to conduct was because they have reason to
suspect that there are problems that can potentially cause complications with the Great Leaps
Westward. Like a second shadow, the most noteworthy detail was the FYC having a wide
spectrum of influence over Ryanites in places such as the Cornhusker State. The results of this
are arguably stupendous: a vast majority of the Ryanites in these states believe that they should
instead collaborate with the FYC and their allies by offering aid to the FYC s endeavors in both
the Plaid Prohibition and Brotzmanskrieg. To make matters worse, the number of Ryanites
sympathetic to the FYC greatly outnumbers the number of Ryanites who are in support of the
Great Leaps Westward, as well as Catholic Brotzmanskrieg factions like the RGA or the
Underground. Indeed, these Ryanites who decided to align themselves with the FYC, also gave
the FYC the privilege to evangelize in their Catholic schools and Catholic high schools, provided
that the FYC offers them material goods and prestige and power. By doing so, these Ryanite
collaborators allowed their fellow Kameraden to commit apostasy and join the Protestant sect of
their choosing. Like the temptation of Eve by the serpent in the Garden of Eden, consuming the
delicious fruit grown from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, from which it caused Man to
be inflicted with Original Sin, the FYC did not always keep their end of the bargain with the

Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor
The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The
narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays
lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the
correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of
information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its
impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that
genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity.
The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends
on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes
that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned
functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information
is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival
need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Through the phrase much other
information was passed on , the narrator conveys the abundantly distinct richness of information,
which is inferred by the connotations much and other . The description that information was passed
on at the table signifies the table to be the center of

Exxon Valdez and the Recovery of Prince William Sound Essay
Exxon Valdez and the Recovery of Prince William Sound
Approximately eleven years ago, an area of Alaska s southern coast known as Prince William
Sound was a disaster area. A nauseating scent of rotting carcasses and oil filtered through the air.
Sea birds screamed in anguish as they fought to survive with oil drenched feathers. Under the
surface billions of organisms ceased to live due to the toxicity of the inescapable wrath of the
blackened water. Prince William Sound had once been a place of beauty and grace, now it was
home to an environmental deathbed. The media broadcast pictures of this nearly unbearable scene
throughout the world. Most people, including myself, wondered if the ecological war zone would

Massive cleanup efforts were initiated within a few weeks of the spill and they continued at
reduced levels for the next three years. Approximately 14% of the spilled oil was recovered by
cleanup crews (Newsweek, p.50). As a result of these efforts and natural weathering, little oil from
the spill remained in the affected area by 1992. However, according to the National Oceanic and
Atmosphere Administration some oil residues are still found under the ocean surface in areas
sheltered from wind and waves. Yet, these residues are highly weathered and the toxicity is
reduced to levels tolerable by organisms in the water (7). Nonetheless, the magnitude and timing of
the Exxon Valdez oil spillraised immediate concerns about possible effects on marine fish and
wildlife and prospects that these effects might be long lasting. Professors John Wiens and David
Page spent many years studying theses effects of the oil spill and they presented their findings at
the International Oil Spill Conference in Seattle, March 8 11, 1999. Their findings contain the
most recent results of the ongoing studies in Prince William Sound. Through extensive work with
three different groups of animals affected by the spill, they have exhibited a remarkable recovery
by the ecosystem of Prince William Sound (Wiens, Page et al.). The first species the scientists

Is Data A Person
Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be
considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality,
conscious mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a
special stance or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single
episode, The Measure Of A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus
making him a person. The first factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He
rationalizes during the poker game, he rationalizes when he decides to resign, even when he
agrees to the trial. During the poker game he rationalizes what to do next, whether to fold or
raise. Then later on in the episode, data was being forcefully transferred, he was told he could
avoid this situation by resigning. He made his own rational choice to resign so that he wouldn t be
experimented on. When he was told he was not a person, and property of the starfleet, he made the
rational decision and went to court to prove... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them to perform the action. Data, when he does anything, he does so out of his own deliberate
action. This can tie in with his rationality, data makes his own rational decisions through a
conscious mental state and with intentionality. Verbal communication is the third factor to be
considered a person. Data, with no troubles, has the ability to communicate verbally with
everyone shown in the episode. Self consciousness ties with the first and second point. Data is
conscious of himself and his surroundings. During the trial data was asked by the Captain if he
knew where he was, what he was doing, and who he was. Without any sort of hesitation or issue

Comparing The Birthmark And Rappaccini s Daughter
Reading both of Hawthorn works The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter I thought both gave a
sense of horror and romance. When comparing the two stories I saw many similarities between the
two. The story lines of both are similar considering both are dealing with a scientist that strives for
perfection and can t see the natural perfection in nature and humanity. Both scientists were willing
to put their loved ones on the line for scienceand perfection. In The Birthmark Aylmer did not see
the natural beauty in his wife Georgiana s birthmark as society did, he wanted to take it away and
change her into what he thought she should look like to meet his standards. Aylmer was willing to

Hawthorns Rappaccini s Daughter was not as clear of a story as The Birthmark , the
interperatation that I gathered in Rappaccini s Daughter was that Rappaccini, the father and
scientist was too selfish for his own good and put science above everything. Rappaccini treated
his daughter Beatrice as if she was a science experiment, while he conducted experiments on her
that altered her personality. I believe he did this not only to have control but also establish
perfection, as that is the theme; as one has control of another they have the ability to make a
person perfect, or meet their standards. Both of the stories also contained romance. In The
Birthmark the romance made me a little irritated as Aylmer is suppose to love Georgiana but
cant accept the way she looks, so he chooses to change her to meet his own satisfaction. But in
reality and what I was hoping she would realize is there were so many other guys in society that
saw her birthmark as beauty and would of loved the time of day to spend with her, while treating
her how she should be

Alexander Hamilton Contributions
The final years of his life were riddled with tragedy and pain, his death becoming the most famous
duel in American history. Born between 1755 and 1757 and orphaned at a young age, Alexander
Hamilton climbed the social ranks from a poor immigrant born in the small Caribbean island of
Nevis, to one of the most prominent founding fathers of America. Through several scandals and the
harsh criticisms of his enemies, Hamilton made incredibly important contributions to American
history. He was instrumental in the ratification of the United States Constitution, the establishment
of a national bank, and the formation of a two party system (Federalists and Democratic
Republicans), and was also the first Secretary of Treasury in American history.
One of Hamilton s first friends and mortal enemy, Aaron Burrwas nearly the complete opposite of
him. He was born to a wealthy family from New Jersey in 1756. As intellectually gifted as
Hamilton, he graduated from the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton) when he was
17. They were good friends for a while, until their friendship was torn apart by their conflicting
political pursuits.
1790: Burr defeats Hamilton s father in law in battle for senate seat.
1796: Burr runs for vice presidency on Jefferson s Democratic Republican ticket. Hamilton begins
public attacks on him. Saw Burr as a dangerous opportunist .

Book Of Gifted Education Summary
I found it interesting 50% of public schools are rural. We are a city school district, yet we are
considered a rural district in the Mooresville Graded School District. According to our reading in
Colangelo s Handbook of Gifted Education rural schools have many benefits for students including
smaller class size, lower dropout rates and more community support. I believe when you have
smaller schooldistricts and schools you have more contact with your students and you are able to
individualize and accommodate more when dealing with your students.
Another interesting fact from our chapter this week was the number of public schools declined
between 1940 1990 by 69% even though the population was up 70% in the United States. I
wonder why we have consolidated so many schools and districts? We know that it does not
improve our schools when we do this. Some of the disadvantages shared in our chapter regarding
rural schools were that they are typically isolated and not close to universities. We also see that
rural schools and students have less exposure to a variety or range of different professions.
One shocking informational piece mentioned in chapter 44 of Colangelo s Handbook of Gifted
Education was the increased use of cooperative learning has been considered a hindrance to gifted

Pathetic Fallacy In The Red Pony
The fourth theme of nature is that the natural events imply profound messages. In The Red
Pony, it is described by the pathetic fallacy. This literary term refers to the presentation of
inanimate objects in nature as possessing human feelings. Steinbeck especially uses the weather
to foreshadow upcoming events and to symbolize the mood and emotion of the characters. For
example, rain is one of the causes of death in this story. In The Gift, Jody wishes that it does not
rain before Thanksgiving. Jody s father has told Jody that he can ride the pony on the day of
Thanksgiving, because it will be all grown up by then. Jody tries to act on his father s words, so
he does not put his legs on the horse s back, waiting for the day of getting upon Gabilan. However,

In the beginning of The Leader of the People, Billy gathers the last of the year s hay. Then, Jody
tells him that he is going to kill the mice with his grandfather that day (90). Jody takes a broom
and begins the mouse hunt. When Jody sees the dead mice, he sighs with satisfaction (77). He
describes that the plump, sleek, arrogant mice are doomed (77). Jody sees his obligation to kill
the mice because they do not have any reason of being alive. Thus, he continues the process of
slaughter; however, Billy stops him and tells him to come back home. Jody goes back to his house
and tells Billy that the mice do not know the near future of their life (77). Then, Billy responds
philosophically No, nor you either...nor me, nor anyone (91), meaning that nobody on earth can see
the future. From Billy and Jody s conversation, Steinbeck suggests that living things cannot control
what is going to happen; instead, the future controls them. Namely, nature rules over everything,

Machiavellian Government
Nicolo Machiavelli said of the prince, Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what
you really are. That is precisely what is happening in today s society with certain modern
governments. There is a great difference between the philosophy of modern governments and
kingdoms in the Renaissance. Machiavelli explains certain traits that every single ruler should have
to maintain his rule over his subjects. Modern day governments have exhibited certain forms of
Machiavellianism. Even though modern governments are not entirely Machiavellian, many
governments have established a certain version of Machiavellian governments. These are a few
important key terms to understand when taking a look at the compromise that governments have
established in modern times. These key terms include Machiavellianism, totalitarianism, and
illiberal democracy. Machiavellian governments have to meet certain benchmarks to qualify as a

Essay on Satire in Canterbury Tales
The aim of any true satirical work is to poke fun at a certain aspect of society, while also
inspiring reform to that very same aspect in one way or another. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales,
Chaucer satirizes the Medieval Church and those associated with the church. Medieval society was
centered largely around the Church. Ideally, the people were expected to understand that earthly
possessions were meaningless when compared to the prospect of closeness with God. Man was
expected to work until he died, at which time he would receive eternal salvation. This eternal
salvation was achieved by obeying God s commandments. This theory, however, was becoming
progressively corrupted as hypocrisybegan to pollute the Church, particularly at the higher... Show

Chaucer makes it quite clear to the reader that these men boast about the high morals of the
Church, and then proceed to live in stark contrast to nearly every one of these morals. One
example is how the Church preaches a solemn vow of chastity. Nevertheless, Chaucer tells of how
the Friar had fixed up many a marriage, giving each/ Of his young women what he could afford her.
Therefore, the Friar would find husbands for the women that he had previously seduced but then
lost interest in. Another aspect of the Church that these holy men prove inconsistent is the vow of
simple living. The Monk lives a rather lavish lifestyle, as Chaucer tells, The Rule of good St.
Benet or St. Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore;/ He let go by the things of yesterday
/ And took the modern world s more spacious way. The monk enjoyed the comforts of good
living, with fur lined clothing, a fine horse, and first class meals. Likewise, the Friar enjoyed
fine clothing, as Chaucer says, Not then appearing as your cloistered scholar/ With threadbare
habit hardly worth a dollar,/ But much more like a Doctor or a Pope. These elegant lifestyles are
clearly in opposition to the teachings of the Church on simplistic living. Finally, the Pardoner
preaches on behalf of the Church against greed and avarice, however he is very greedy himself. In
his tale, the Pardoner tells an excellent tale denouncing greed and showing how greed leads to a
person s downfall, yet the

Essay on Cultural Difference between Mexicans and Americans
Cultural Difference between Mexicans and Americans
While Texas leader Stephen Austin initially had no contempt toward Mexicans, the Anglo
American citizens in the area did. The American Texans of the 1800 s defined Mexicans as a race
alien to everything that Americans held dear (De Leon 4). This sentiment would serve as the
primary catalyst to the Texassecession from Mexico. When Austin began colonizing the area, he
envisioned a place in which Anglo Americans and Tejanos, Mexicansliving in Texas, could live
together. Eventually, though, the public opinions of North Americansettlers in the territory and in
Washington would make him realize that the goal of unity between the two groups was impossible.

spread the benefits of democracy and freedom to the lesser peoples inhabiting the region (Del
Castillo 4).
The prevailing attitude of white supremacy was the justification Americans used to rescue the
wilderness from backwardness, indolence, and disorder (De Leon 65). Mexico in its earliest days
was primarily Indian, but the infusion of both Spanish and black blood made it harder to define
Mexicans. White Anglo Americans believed their contrast to white and salient kindred to black and
red made Mexicans subject to treatment commensurate with the odious connotations whites
attached to colors, races, and cultures dissimilar to their own (De Leon 6).
Both Americans and Mexicans laid bricks creating cultural differences. America prided itself on
being a nation comprised of people working for a better future. Mexicans were noted as focusing
on the pleasures of life and ignoring their responsibilities. David Woodman, a promoter for a New
York and Boston land company, is quoted in De Leon s They Called Them Greasers, saying
Mexicans habitually succumbed to indolence and ease and indulge themselves in smoking, music,
dancing, horse racing, and other sports (7). Many Americans who visited Mexico were appalled

Children With Autism Paper
Researchers have found that parents of children with autism experience greater stress than parents
with typical developing children and children with other disabilities, including intellectual
disabilities and Down syndrome. Research has also found that mothers of children with autism have
significantly higher ratings of parental stress and negative psychological functioning than mothers
of children without autism. When comparing a mothers role to the fathers, mothers are reported to
have higher levels of stress and depression, while fathers report more difficulty interacting with
their child with autism. Mothers are more likely to be involved with their child s everyday life

Communication Protocols And Functions Of Seven Layers Of...
ASSIGNMENT 6 COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS Data communication allows individuals
and companies to transmit or receive information from one point to another. For two or more
devices to communicate, there should be some mechanism or medium that can link them to help
them achieve their goals. This mechanism or medium is governed by rules or laws defining a
format is called a protocol [3]. This is because all communications between devices require that
the devices agree on proper format of the data. There are variety of standard protocols from
which programmers can choose based on the resources available and mainly on the requirements.
For e.g. if reliability is very important, then reliable protocols such as TCP should be used. Each
protocol has its own advantage and restrictions. Depending on several factors such as speed,
reliability, simplicity, programmers choose these protocols. In this essay, I am going to address
about the networks and commonly used protocols, functions of seven layers of the OSI model, TCP
/IP protocol, and protocols used in wireless communication. Technologies related to internetworking
is growing rapidly day by day. A network is a group of connected, communicating devices such as
computers and printers. [1] When two or more networks exists and communicate with each other, it
is known as an internet. We know, Internet is the most notable internet, which is composed of
thousands of interconnected networks [1]. Any individual or any organization such as

Margaret Atwood s Penelopiad
Humanist and feminist, Margaret Atwood retells the famous myth, The Odyssey, in Penelopiad.
Atwood creates voices for the women who did not have an important role in Homer s epic poems.
The writer also creates two levels of myths: the Homeric myth of faithful Penelope and cultural
myths about women as either submissive and domestic, or as duplicitous schemers (9 Homwells).
In Penelopiad, Penelope retells the story in her point of view and although she is the main narrator,
the twelve maids often interject their side of the story. Throughout the work Penelope creates
herself as the victim of society and is found, often times, contradicting herself.
As the novel unravels the reader finds that Penelope is not a reliable source since most ... Show

... The more thickly they laid it on, the more costly were the gifts they expected from me. I always
complied. Even an obvious fabrication is some comfort when you have few others (Atwood 49).
Atwood shows how narratives may be altered or constructed differently depending on the audience.
While, Penelope s payment for the altered stories shows her desire to only believe the best about
Odysseus. However, the maids create Odysseus s character to be more scandalous and the
complete opposite, when compared to Penelope. Their narrative suggests that he doesn t seem to
be bolting back to Ithaca. Demonstrating, there is an alternative version of the story, where
Odysseus is less admirable and irresponsible. Also, through the maids, Atwood is able to depict
women being submissive to men, in a more rasping point of view. In particular, when Telemachus
is born the maids state, We were his pets and his toy things, mock sisters, his tiny companions. ...
He saw us as rightfully his, for whatever purpose (Atwood 42). Atwood shows that at a very early
age women were domesticated and taught to be submissive. As for the maids, they are telling the
reader that they had no other choice but to obey in order to

Ethos Pathos And Logos Analysis
Before the building of architectural achievements such as the Roman Colosseum, the Taj Mahal,
and the Windsor Castle, a Greek philosopher named Aristotle had created the three pillars of
persuasive speech over 2,000 years ago. These three pillars are known as ethos, logos, and pathos.
The architectural feats mentioned above had been created to last and withstand demolition from
external forces such as the weather, aging, and cracking/erosion. Just like these buildings are
structured, an argument needs to be well put together so it cannot be torn apart. This resulted in the
creation of the three pillars. In the reading of Monstrous Beginnings, the author, W. Scott Poole,
uses Aristotle s three pillars attempting to convince the reader that among... Show more content on

Pathos involves getting an emotional response from the reader, which is something that Poole
struggles to do in this writing. Although it is truly unfortunate how certain groups of people were
treated back then, Poole struggles to make you feel any sympathy for how the minorities were
treated. He does not include many stories that invoke feelings of anger towards the treatment of the
natives or pity or sorrow towards them. Another part that made his writing hard to read or feel any
emotion over were his long winded sentences. Many sentences went on longer than they should
have, or could have been cut in half to make shorter sentences so the material would become
easier to read. Poole s writing definitely leaned more toward the educational side than the
emotional side as it seemed to read more like a textbook than his own thoughts. However, there
are a few examples in his writing that if he made an effort, he could establish pathos much better.
For example, Francisco de Chicora could have made for a great story to establish pathos as he
was a native who was kidnapped by Spanish explorers and was forced into a different religion but
was able to escape from them (179). However, the reader learns the bulk of that information in the
footnotes rather than by reading an emotional story that would help establish the pathos in his
writing. Poole is not able to evoke much, if any,

Company will need to make sure that it implements a strategic strategy that separates itself from
its competitors and provides a supreme food quality and dining experience. TO: Ron Saich
FROM: Subject 3 5 Year Plan Recommendation 1: Expand the Panera Brand both Nationally amp;
Globally Panera Bread Company is not reaching its full potential when it comes to their need to
expand into new unchartered markets. By expanding both nationally and globally they will be
able to more readily compete with the likes of a Starbucks who has over 17,000 stores across the
globe. Panera needs to become the place that people want to get their coffee and baked goods
from, an area that Starbucks currently rules in the market place. Panera also does not have any
global presence, by utilizing different continents such as Europe and Asia they should be able to
bring their brand from a more local/national brand to a more global one, increasing revenue along
the way. In doing this they should begin testing new menu items that would attract customers of
different cultures. Recommendation 2: Expanding the Current Menu Panera Bread Company
should open itself up to the idea of serving alcohol at each and every one of its stores. In order to

The Androgynous Man
At a point in Noel Perrin s life, he suddenly became conflicted over his masculinity. It was such a
breakthrough, that he had to analyze the whole situation. Although it took some years to finally
grasp the concept of it, Perrin is now comfortable and understands the logic behind the typical
gender roles; not from research and other people s work, but from his own experience and his own
ideas. At an age where you would generally start to develop from a boy to a man, age sixteen, Noel

Perrin makes it sound like it s such a burden to be envious or jealous of those manly qualities. I
think it s human nature to do that and there is nothing wrong with acting out that way. No man
is going to say I want to be that guy , instead they re saying I want to be LIKE that guy ,
combining the qualities you have already with the ones that you don t have. I believe if you re

because that update is going to make it better. Same rules apply to human life.
Another issue I have with another one of Perrin s opinions is he also believes that ...they

A Revision Of The Controlled Substances Act Essay
Considering a Revision of The Controlled Substances Act Drug abuse and misuse are prominent
problems in the United States, whether the issue is with trafficking, overdoses causing death, illegal
recreational use in adolescents, or even improper prescriptions by medical professionals leading to
physiological dependence. The formerly listed problems stem from outdated, yet current,
classification system of drugs in the Controlled Substances Act(CSA). The HeroinEpidemic is an
example of a problem concerning improper prescribing in medical practice; this issue began
when many medical professionals began to prescribe potent painkillers to their patients early in
their treatments. Over time and with consistent use, the patients grew to psychologically and
physiologically depend on the painkillers. Eventually, the prescribed painkillers became
unaffordable and patients began to depend on a cheaper drug with similar, yet more dangerous,
effects: heroin. As a result, many are addicted to heroin as compared to prescription drugs. There
is also an issue concerning qualified medical professionals that pill mill, meaning they prescribe
Schedule II drugs such as oxycodone with the sole purpose to make more money; this puts the
patient in danger in exchange for the doctor s personal benefit. As a student pursuing a career in the
medical field, I find that the proper implementation and use of medicine and drugs is vital to
providing quality health care, so that events like the heroin

Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Over the past 20 years, breast magnetic resonance imaging also known as breast MRI has
evolved into one of the most sensitive modalities for screening and detecting breast cancer. Breast
MRI is mainly used for two purposes; women who have been diagnosed with cancer and women
who are at a high risk for breastcancer. As many advantages as breast MRI has, it also has a few
disadvantages just as other modalities do.
The American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends women that are at high risk of developing breast
cancer have an annual breast MRI exam in addition to their annual mammograms to increase the
likelihood that breast cancer will be detected early. These new recommendations came about in

  • 2. Thesis Statement Of Infosys Infosys dedication to giving back can be understand by the way that the organization turned into one of the first in the nation to do their due on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) exercises. On July 11 this year, Infosys gave Rs 240 crore this financial to its humanitarian arm, Infosys Foundation. Set up in 1996, the non benefit trust lives up to expectations crosswise over divisions, including social insurance, training, society, down and out consideration and provincial advancement. Obviously, my reasoning was affected from the years I worked at the Tata Group. They are my saints, says Sudha Murthy, director of InfosysFoundation, and wife of Infosys prime supporter N R Narayana Murthy. She said: Amma, what great is our life in the event that we can t generally help other people This talk with her little girl drove Sudha to examine the thought of setting up a generous arm with her spouse. By then, Narayana Murthy who was at that point considering setting up an establishment, requested that his wife head it. In the most recent 17 years, Infosys has given Rs 20 25 cr consistently to the establishment. In these years, Infosys Foundation has invested through 20 25% of this sum on mid day meal programs for understudies in government schools, another 20% every in assisting with school formation and in social insurance, and the remaining on advancing expressive arts and society. With us getting Rs 240 cr, we have chosen to spend Rs 50 60 crore on mid day meals, and another Rs 50 crore on training, says Murthy. • 3. Wind, Earthquake And Its Effect On The Earthquake Essay Unlike wind, earthquake is a different phenomenon which generates a ground motion. The intensity or acceleration of the earthquake depends upon the magnitude and location of its epicenter. The seismic waves caused by the earthquake cause inertial forces in the building. The inertial forces are created when an outside force tries to move a body in rest which happens in this case as seismic waves tries the move the building in rest. We all know that when a building is subjected to inertial forces it should obey the newton s second law of motion. F=M.a (3) Where F is inertial force and M denotes mass of building and a is the acceleration with which the building is moved due to seismic activity. Duration, velocity and displacement: From the newton s second law, it is evident that acceleration is a key factor in determining the forces on a building. But there is one more criteria that we have to look into is the duration of the earthquake. Earthquake that has moderate acceleration, sustained over time, can cause much more damage to buildings than a single much larger peak. It weakens the building structure and reduces its durability. The strong motion duration is often termed as bracketed duration (Arnold 2013). This is the shaking duration above a certain threshold acceleration value, which is 0.05g, and is defined as the time between the first and last peaks of motion that exceeds this threshold value (Arnold 2013). The strong motion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Great Leaps Westward The reasoning behind the studies the RGA wanted to conduct was because they have reason to suspect that there are problems that can potentially cause complications with the Great Leaps Westward. Like a second shadow, the most noteworthy detail was the FYC having a wide spectrum of influence over Ryanites in places such as the Cornhusker State. The results of this are arguably stupendous: a vast majority of the Ryanites in these states believe that they should instead collaborate with the FYC and their allies by offering aid to the FYC s endeavors in both the Plaid Prohibition and Brotzmanskrieg. To make matters worse, the number of Ryanites sympathetic to the FYC greatly outnumbers the number of Ryanites who are in support of the Great Leaps Westward, as well as Catholic Brotzmanskrieg factions like the RGA or the Underground. Indeed, these Ryanites who decided to align themselves with the FYC, also gave the FYC the privilege to evangelize in their Catholic schools and Catholic high schools, provided that the FYC offers them material goods and prestige and power. By doing so, these Ryanite collaborators allowed their fellow Kameraden to commit apostasy and join the Protestant sect of their choosing. Like the temptation of Eve by the serpent in the Garden of Eden, consuming the delicious fruit grown from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, from which it caused Man to be inflicted with Original Sin, the FYC did not always keep their end of the bargain with the ... • 5. Analysis Of The Story Folie A Deux By William Trevor The story Folie a Deux by William Trevor explores the complexities of curiosity and maturation. The narrator, inspired by literary devices, details an important passage of the story, which portrays lunchtime conversations between Anthony, his father, and Miss Davally, and follows with the correspondence between Miss Davally and Wilby s mother where all involve the exchange of information. The passage is meaningful because it demonstrates an appraisal of information, and its impact on progress. Ultimately, the story suggests that information is arbitrarily powerful, and that genuine maturation is only fostered through nurtured curiosity. The portrayal of lunchtime conversations suggests information is invaluably powerful and depends on human connections to establish a worldview. While everyone is eating, the narrator describes that much other information (is) passed on at the lunch table , and details the questioned functionality of aeroplanes , time , and spiders (132). The narrator s description of how information is situated at the lunch table implicitly suggests human connections to be an important survival need, like nourishment or lunch , and infers their interdependency. Through the phrase much other information was passed on , the narrator conveys the abundantly distinct richness of information, which is inferred by the connotations much and other . The description that information was passed on at the table signifies the table to be the center of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Exxon Valdez and the Recovery of Prince William Sound Essay Exxon Valdez and the Recovery of Prince William Sound Approximately eleven years ago, an area of Alaska s southern coast known as Prince William Sound was a disaster area. A nauseating scent of rotting carcasses and oil filtered through the air. Sea birds screamed in anguish as they fought to survive with oil drenched feathers. Under the surface billions of organisms ceased to live due to the toxicity of the inescapable wrath of the blackened water. Prince William Sound had once been a place of beauty and grace, now it was home to an environmental deathbed. The media broadcast pictures of this nearly unbearable scene throughout the world. Most people, including myself, wondered if the ecological war zone would ever recover ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Massive cleanup efforts were initiated within a few weeks of the spill and they continued at reduced levels for the next three years. Approximately 14% of the spilled oil was recovered by cleanup crews (Newsweek, p.50). As a result of these efforts and natural weathering, little oil from the spill remained in the affected area by 1992. However, according to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration some oil residues are still found under the ocean surface in areas sheltered from wind and waves. Yet, these residues are highly weathered and the toxicity is reduced to levels tolerable by organisms in the water (7). Nonetheless, the magnitude and timing of the Exxon Valdez oil spillraised immediate concerns about possible effects on marine fish and wildlife and prospects that these effects might be long lasting. Professors John Wiens and David Page spent many years studying theses effects of the oil spill and they presented their findings at the International Oil Spill Conference in Seattle, March 8 11, 1999. Their findings contain the most recent results of the ongoing studies in Prince William Sound. Through extensive work with three different groups of animals affected by the spill, they have exhibited a remarkable recovery by the ecosystem of Prince William Sound (Wiens, Page et al.). • 7. Is Data A Person Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality, conscious mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a special stance or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single episode, The Measure Of A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus making him a person. The first factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He rationalizes during the poker game, he rationalizes when he decides to resign, even when he agrees to the trial. During the poker game he rationalizes what to do next, whether to fold or raise. Then later on in the episode, data was being forcefully transferred, he was told he could avoid this situation by resigning. Verbal communication is the third factor to be considered a person. Data, with no troubles, has the ability to communicate verbally with everyone shown in the episode. Self consciousness ties with the first and second point. Data is conscious of himself and his surroundings. When comparing the two stories I saw many similarities between the two. The story lines of both are similar considering both are dealing with a scientist that strives for perfection and can t see the natural perfection in nature and humanity. Both scientists were willing to put their loved ones on the line for scienceand perfection. In The Birthmark Aylmer did not see the natural beauty in his wife Georgiana s birthmark as society did, he wanted to take it away and change her into what he thought she should look like to meet his standards. Hawthorns Rappaccini s Daughter was not as clear of a story as The Birthmark , the interperatation that I gathered in Rappaccini s Daughter was that Rappaccini, the father and scientist was too selfish for his own good and put science above everything. Rappaccini treated his daughter Beatrice as if she was a science experiment, while he conducted experiments on her that altered her personality. I believe he did this not only to have control but also establish perfection, as that is the theme; as one has control of another they have the ability to make a person perfect, or meet their standards. Both of the stories also contained romance. In The Birthmark the romance made me a little irritated as Aylmer is suppose to love Georgiana but cant accept the way she looks, so he chooses to change her to meet his own satisfaction. Born between 1755 and 1757 and orphaned at a young age, Alexander Hamilton climbed the social ranks from a poor immigrant born in the small Caribbean island of Nevis, to one of the most prominent founding fathers of America. Through several scandals and the harsh criticisms of his enemies, Hamilton made incredibly important contributions to American history. He was instrumental in the ratification of the United States Constitution, the establishment of a national bank, and the formation of a two party system (Federalists and Democratic Republicans), and was also the first Secretary of Treasury in American history. One of Hamilton s first friends and mortal enemy, Aaron Burrwas nearly the complete opposite of him. He was born to a wealthy family from New Jersey in 1756. As intellectually gifted as Hamilton, he graduated from the College of New Jersey (now known as Princeton) when he was 17. They were good friends for a while, until their friendship was torn apart by their conflicting political pursuits. 1790: Burr defeats Hamilton s father in law in battle for senate seat. 1796: Burr runs for vice presidency on Jefferson s Democratic Republican ticket. We are a city school district, yet we are considered a rural district in the Mooresville Graded School District. According to our reading in Colangelo s Handbook of Gifted Education rural schools have many benefits for students including smaller class size, lower dropout rates and more community support. I believe when you have smaller schooldistricts and schools you have more contact with your students and you are able to individualize and accommodate more when dealing with your students. Another interesting fact from our chapter this week was the number of public schools declined between 1940 1990 by 69% even though the population was up 70% in the United States. I wonder why we have consolidated so many schools and districts? We know that it does not improve our schools when we do this. Some of the disadvantages shared in our chapter regarding rural schools were that they are typically isolated and not close to universities. We also see that rural schools and students have less exposure to a variety or range of different professions. Essay on Satire in Canterbury Tales The aim of any true satirical work is to poke fun at a certain aspect of society, while also inspiring reform to that very same aspect in one way or another. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, Chaucer satirizes the Medieval Church and those associated with the church. Medieval society was centered largely around the Church. Ideally, the people were expected to understand that earthly possessions were meaningless when compared to the prospect of closeness with God. Man was expected to work until he died, at which time he would receive eternal salvation. This eternal salvation was achieved by obeying God s commandments. This theory, however, was becoming progressively corrupted as hypocrisybegan to pollute the Church, particularly at the higher... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaucer makes it quite clear to the reader that these men boast about the high morals of the Church, and then proceed to live in stark contrast to nearly every one of these morals. One example is how the Church preaches a solemn vow of chastity. Nevertheless, Chaucer tells of how the Friar had fixed up many a marriage, giving each/ Of his young women what he could afford her. Therefore, the Friar would find husbands for the women that he had previously seduced but then lost interest in. Another aspect of the Church that these holy men prove inconsistent is the vow of simple living. The Monk lives a rather lavish lifestyle, as Chaucer tells, The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore;/ He let go by the things of yesterday / And took the modern world s more spacious way. The monk enjoyed the comforts of good living, with fur lined clothing, a fine horse, and first class meals. Likewise, the Friar enjoyed fine clothing, as Chaucer says, Not then appearing as your cloistered scholar/ With threadbare habit hardly worth a dollar,/ But much more like a Doctor or a Pope. These elegant lifestyles are clearly in opposition to the teachings of the Church on simplistic living. The American Texans of the 1800 s defined Mexicans as a race alien to everything that Americans held dear (De Leon 4). When Austin began colonizing the area, he envisioned a place in which Anglo Americans and Tejanos, Mexicansliving in Texas, could live together. The architectural feats mentioned above had been created to last and withstand demolition from external forces such as the weather, aging, and cracking/erosion. Another part that made his writing hard to read or feel any emotion over were his long winded sentences. A Revision Of The Controlled Substances Act Essay Considering a Revision of The Controlled Substances Act Drug abuse and misuse are prominent problems in the United States, whether the issue is with trafficking, overdoses causing death, illegal recreational use in adolescents, or even improper prescriptions by medical professionals leading to physiological dependence. The formerly listed problems stem from outdated, yet current, classification system of drugs in the Controlled Substances Act(CSA). The HeroinEpidemic is an example of a problem concerning improper prescribing in medical practice; this issue began when many medical professionals began to prescribe potent painkillers to their patients early in their treatments. Over time and with consistent use, the patients grew to psychologically and physiologically depend on the painkillers. Eventually, the prescribed painkillers became unaffordable and patients began to depend on a cheaper drug with similar, yet more dangerous, effects: heroin. As a result, many are addicted to heroin as compared to prescription drugs. There is also an issue concerning qualified medical professionals that pill mill, meaning they prescribe Schedule II drugs such as oxycodone with the sole purpose to make more money; this puts the patient in danger in exchange for the doctor s personal benefit. • 34. Personal Narrative Essay On Social Day The first Friday of May was one of the first sunny days in a long time, probably since November. Wearing my Wellesley College worn out, navy blue hoodie, black Nike s, and black yoga pants, I was dressed for a comfort. I remember that after my modern world history class, I did not feel the inspiration to go to the library and study, so I met up with a few friends at the lockers next to the student center to eat junk food, do homework, and listen to music. My purple, patterned backpack landed on the on the rough carpet with a thud, and since I was not in the most social mood, I took out my laptop and started jamming out to music. I plugged in my earbuds, got a bag of chips, and started listening to Beyonce. Friday, May 5th was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, the day before the fifth, two of my friends and I talked about Sally s depression and suicidal thoughts; we knew something was wrong. The first thing I noticed when I entered into the now cloudy light outside was how cold it was; too cold to be May. I was brought out my thoughts by soft sobs and remembered the task at hand: getting Sally back to her dorm. The first challenge was getting past the frisbee team practicing on the quad, so grabbing Sally by the hand, I pulled her over to the back of Straus and sat behind a tree in the damp grass in excruciating silence. I finally asked, Hey, Sal? Could you tell me what s going on? She screamed, which in the wide open quad inducing some of the frisbee players to glance over, curious as to what was going on. I immediately grabbed Sally s hand and made her take deep breaths. She leaned back on the tree and sighed, calming down a bit. Eventually we walked down the long path past the flagpole and the chapel, through the Hallowell passage, and to Sally s dorm. She opened the door of her dorm, and we walked down the long hallway to her room. I made Sally sit down on her bed and take three deep breaths while I got a glass of water. We sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. Sally? I said, breaking the everlasting noiselessness, What s going on? She started to cry and scream saying in between shallow breaths, My... ... Channing Tatum is back and hotter than ever in his return to the stage for a stripper reunion in Myrtle Beach, SC.
