The Pros And Cons Of Radical Reconstruction
At the end of the Civil War, the nation s government was tasked with sewing back together a nation so
divided that they were willing to kill each other and split in two. While those that started the war may
not have been rational, those that ended the war were. Among the most pressing issues the
Reconstruction drafters faced like compensating northerners and not alienating the South, providing
justice to African Americans especially freed slaves stood forward as the primary moral goal. After all,
by the end of the war, the North s endgame became less about state defiance and more about the moral
obligation of emancipation. The North first employed a strategy of appeasement to save the dignity of
the South but after a recalcitrant South refused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it did temporarily provide African Americans with de jure equality, Radical Reconstruction
did not eliminate the intrinsic barriers of prejudice and neglect to African American prosperity in the
South and did not keep freedmen from being once again disenfranchised to sharecropping and
enslaved to debt after Northern supervision stagnated. Freedom, as defined by Garrison Frazier, a
Baptist minister representing Savannah s black community, was placing us where we could reap the
fruit of our own labor, and take care of ourselves, and African Americans were unable to do that
despite laws that purportedly freed African Americans. In fact, most of the impacts of Radical
Reconstruction an abandoned black community, a makeshift union, and an empowered white
supremacy movement overlooked by a corrupt state government system could have been achieved by
simply engaging with the normal Reconstruction. Radical Reconstruction may have actually been
worse because of the widened rift between the North and the South, with resentment of the federal
government s military intervention fostering a reluctancy for the South to cooperate. Even though
African Americans would have to wait decades for a semblance of justice, it is perhaps for the better
that the North did not force the South the alter their worldview. For the United States government is
not Orwell s thought police, and the nation s laws are unable to oversee every single interaction and
microaggression that citizens face as a result of others preconceived notions and judgements.
Considering that both gentle and strict approaches were tried, there is very little that officials could
have done to feasibly create a perfect reconstruction, and hitting with a heavier hand would only
further a stronger backlash. If they had done any one thing better, it would have

The Better-Than-Average Effect
Critically argue whether the better than average effect has overall positive or negative implications to
individuals and/or society.
The better than average (or BTAE) effect states that certain individuals would evaluate themselves
more positively than the average person. Within this, there is argument to suggest that there are both
positive and negative implications linked to this theory. The concept of self plays a large role in
discovering whether these factors affect the individual, whereas social comparison is also a great
aspect in understanding how the better than average effect can include itself into everyday society,
therefore creating an unrealistic divide between different groups. The idea of self is a significant part
of every individual s life. The way we visualise ourselves can be altered by feelings of self worth and
self esteem and lead to a change or influence in the way we act. The evaluation of one s attitude
towards self can be seen to be improved by the individual believing they are worthy which could lead
to a self fulfilling prophecy. The better than average effect can depict this theory by assessing
individuals on their motivational bias and attributes (Brown, 2011). In this particular study,
participants are given a questionnaire regarding ten traits, half of high importance and half of low
importance. They were then told to rate these attributes on importance of possession. As predicted, the
results show that the

Geologists work in diverse settings. From mining sites to volcanic sites and from glaciers to oceans to
outback to treacherous mountains. Hostile elements always pose a threat.
Geologists spend a lot of time outdoors collecting geological samples, mapping areas and charting
sites. Their field of work is varied though the samples collected are investigated in laboratories
indoors.
Most geologists spend their time in laboratories researching and conducting tests on geological
features collected. Some geologists teach in universities as professors.
An ability to work as a team is essential for geologists. Sometime a team of researchers from diverse
specializations collaborate and coordinate in a project. Without team work results cannot be achieved

China s Survival of Crisis Due to Economic Reforms Essay
China s Survival of Crisis Due to Economic Reforms
In the years before 1976, many unwise policies were carried out which brought China into a crisis of
communism, or a state in which communism was threatened. The Great Leap Forward and the
Cultural Revolution were specifically the main causes of the crisis of communism and the mastermind
between these two movements, Mao Zedong, can be held responsible for their initiation. The Great
Leap Forward was a great economic failure. Years of famine and intense suffering came about as a
result of this skewed project of Mao s. Consequently, he was sidelined in the CCP. The direct
consequence of this was the Cultural Revolution, as he sought to regain his ... Show more content on

From post 1976 onwards, Deng Xiaoping and his conservative pragmatist government would bring
great reform to China, which would allow her to tide over the troubles caused by the crisis in
communism. Indeed, it would seem that his economic reforms were the main reason for China s
survival, as opposed to political reform. Under Deng Xiaoping, action was taken to move China from
a Soviet style command economy to a more capitalist market economy. On the other hand, political
reform was not as pronounced as Deng wished to retain the traditional communist style of party
dictatorship.
When Deng came into power, China s economy had not progressed as much as Mao had imagined it
would. The crisis in communism had also had an adverse effect on the economy. Deng s catch phrase
it doesn t matter if the cat is black or white so long as it catches the mouse encapsulates his entire
approach towards economic reform. His economic reforms were very obviously not in line with
communism at all but he felt that if they could bring greater prosperity to China, it was worth it to
adopt these new measures.
The reforms took place largely in rural China. There was increased emphasis and investment on

Integrating Technology in the Language Arts Classroom Essay
Integrating Technology in the Language Arts Classroom
School leaders today are under extreme pressure to improve student achievement levels. Yet, in the
face of tight budgets, threats to cut extra curricular activities, and an extensive shortage of textbooks
in the schools, exactly what are teachers supposed to do to ensure that no child is really left behind.
Despite what looks like a dead end, there is hope. By integrating the usage of technology in the
Language Arts classroom, students are presented with a wide range of opportunities for improving in
writing, literacy, and cultural awareness.
According to the article, Are we there yet? a survey issued by the National School Boards Foundation
says that many schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is still both enthusiasm for and doubts about the usage of educational technology in the
classroom. However, the integration of technology in reading instruction has kept up with the
movements and changes in the field of the reading and writing curriculum. While faced with many
book shortages, this article also gives ideas for strengthening the skill of students in writing and
reading instruction. It suggests that students participate in invisible writing as a sort of pre writing
activity. Through this, students will turn the monitor of the computer off for approximately one to
three minutes, so that they cannot see what they are typing. Students have reported that this exercise
has helped them develop fluency, has freed them from continuously checking their mistakes and
losing their train of thought, and has also increased their interest in viewing what they had to say.
Thus, students will have learned how to produce more thoughtfully enriched texts that teachers can
build on through other types of instruction.
In addition to this, in the face of textbooks shortages, teachers have at hand a source for retrieving
other forms of literature. On line are numerous programs that encourage students to read along with it,
while it reads aloud. There are also programs that allow students to retrieve definitions and
illustrations of the words, and thus promoting students to interactions in literacy.
Lastly, in the article,

Kops Argument Against Racial Profiling
Racial Profiling has been in the practice of Law Enforcement since the 1940 s. The use of Racial
Profiling should be eradicated because of the effect it has in the court system, discrimination,
excessive brutality, and the change in lifestyle. Racial Profiling is an unnecessary practice, there are
alternatives to the practice.
Racial profiling is when a police officer uses an individual s race for foundation to question he/she
with the expectation of he/she committing a crime. Copious amounts of minority races are prone to
this practice that such law enforcement use, such as African Americans, Latinos, and Middle Eastern
Americans. Levels of racial profiling are exercised by certain law enforcers. Consequently, there are
various factors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brock Turner and Cory Batey were both found guilty for their crimes in the court system. The only
difference is Brock Turner whom is a privileged Caucasian received a lower sentence than Cory Batey.
Cory Batey is an African American male who received a fifteen year sentence for committing
aggravating rape. Both Brock and Cory were attending prestigious colleges Stanford and Vanderbilt,
and were nineteen years of age. Brock was an exceptional Stanford swimmer who was sentenced six
months jail time and was able to get out earlier with good behavior. Cory Batey was a remarkable
football player who was on a scholarship. In the Brock Turner there was a substantial amount of
evidence including eyewitnesses catching him in the act of raping an unconscious woman behind a
dumpster. However, in the Cory Batey there was ample evidence as well as security cameras that
exposes Batey and others carrying an unconscious woman into a dorm room. In addition, in the Batey
incident the evidence involves photos and videos of the uncalled for act. Consequently, Corey and
Brock received different sentences for the same crime. Corey Batey an African American man is
spending most of his premier life locked up whereas Brock Turner received a slap on the wrist for his
crimes. Aaron Persky who was the judge for the Brock Turner case was very similar to Brock Turner
for the reason that he as well was an impressive Caucasian athlete at Stanford.

What Are New Ideas Threaten Society
New Ideas Threaten Society The heart of the Enlightenment lied at the heart of Paris, France.
Intellectuals gathered throughout Europe to debate and justify new and old ideas. Gatherings were
held to host discussion as reformed concepts spread across Europe though passionate writers and
scholars. Traditional beliefs, customs, and conventions were examined during the Enlightenment by
these people and the citizens that come to read their papers. Controversy brewed as power holders and
religion met with the power of reason, but these ideas spread through Europe in a variety of methods.
For one, the introduction of Denis Diderot s Encyclopedia, Encyclopédie, sparked curiosity among
intellectual readers. With its ample amount of general knowledge in science, the goal was to change

Salons were where writers, artists, philosophers, and other intellectuals gather informally to exchange
ideas. The concept of salons may have originated in the 1600s when noblewomen of Paris invited

The Management Programs Of A Computer
Introduction
Operating systems, ( OS ) are the management programs of a computer. First it is booted into the
computer by a boot program, and then it manages all other programs on the computer. These other
programs are called applications, and they utilize an operating system by making requests for process
service power through an API, or application program interface. Users then interact directly with an
operating system through a graphical user interface or command language.
History The earliest computers lacked any form of operating system because they were simple
mainframes. The machines were primitive and programs were often entered into the system one bit at
a time, through many mechanical switches and plug boards. There were no operating systems during
the first phase of computer history from 1940 1955. By the 1950s, punch cards were introduced and
made it so switches were not as necessary any more. The IBM 701, from General Motors Research
Laboratories, was the first system that implemented an operating system. The systems generally ran
one job at a time, which was indicated by whatever was on the punch card. This is called single stream
batch processing. Computers were just exotic experimental equipment, and mainly tested theory. The
use plugboards would direct the computer. Without operating systems, there is no overlap between
computation, I/O, think time, and response time. The specific goal was to handle tables of numbers.

If the government truly cared then why are so many people going without proper healthcare or without

unhappy?
Traveling across the sea, far to the North east, one could be introduced to the vast snow tipped
mountains and pristine blue lakes of Norway. A country famous for its beautiful forests, mountain ski
slopes, fjords, its friendly and accepting people, and beer. Here, in this, close to nature mountainous
country we find a peaceful alternative to America s bustling politics and war time issues. Despite their
chilly and snow encrusted habitat, the people of Norway are amongst the friendliest, warmest people
on Earth. Not only that but, their happy, truly happy, with their homes, their jobs, their communities,
and their government. So the question is, why? Why is a country ruled under a matriarch, compared to
America s superior democracy, flourishing so vividly while the citizens of America are groaning and
moaning about all the different inconveniences that their government has provided? There are many
factors that could contribute to this, such as the suck it up and get on with it Norwegian mentality, but

History of the Evolution of Women s Rights Essay
Until the mid 19th century, women were considered possessions of their husbands, and had no control
over their money or property. Thanks to the women s right movement, this has all changed and things
run a little differently now. Spouses are now equal under the law and property is shared between them.
In the common law, all women s property except land and improvements went to her husband and it
became under his control. She pretty much had no say in what happened to any of her things. Women
were slowly losing all of their rights. If the husband wrote in his will that everything was his and none
of it would be given to his wife, then the wife pretty much had no property if the husband died before
her. If they had a kid when they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument for passing it was that it protected married women and their children from irresponsible
husbands.Later on in 1860, 14 states had passed the same version of the statute. 29 states had passed
the same version of the Married Women s Property act by the end of the civil war. The act didn t take
much to pass considering the women had just got their rights. But they were still going through fights
and time. They had to get these laws passed because they had things to worry about loosing. For
example the main thing they were worried about was not being able to write their own will. Without it
they had to worry about not being able to keep the things they owned if their husbands had died or if
they were just ignorant and left their wives. If they had children the women had to worry about
loosing their kids in the middle of it. Their kids could be sent to somebody that wouldn t be a very
good guardian for them. Not only was it messing up the women s lives it was messing up their kids
too. The fight for married womens property acts was not as bad as the fight for womens rights. They
did not have to go through the danger of their lives. One couple that did protest was Lucy Stone and
Henry Blackwell. They protested for the custody of the wives person. They also were fighting for the
custody of their children. Which they thought the guardianship should not just be under the

Class Rigidity and Social Mobility
In late eighteenth and early nineteenth century England there was a sort of moral code of behavior and
standards that are to be maintained by the middle and upper classes of society. Austen realistically
mirrors this code through the characters and plots of her novels while showing that social flexibility
was narrow and class boundaries were strict. The topics of class stringency and social mobility are
important areas in Jane Austen s literature. We begin to see that Austen is not a revolutionary as she
supports and preserves the morals and customs of societies hierarchy. However she often encourages
and backs the emergence of new wealth permitting greater social mobility. In Austen s world the naval
and tradesmen professions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrative also pokes fun at Anne s father, Sir Walter Elliot for being imprudent with his money.
This suggests that Wentworth is more favorable to support Anne than Sir Walter, even though he
thinks himself highly superior to Wentworth. After Frank Churchill arrives in town Emma takes him to
shop at Ford s and says You will be adored in Highbury. You were very popular before you came,
because you were Mr. Weston s son (Austen, Emma, 155). Mr. Weston was a former army captain and
earned enough money to buy his own land putting him in a higher social situation. This quotation
shows that not only is Mr. Weston associated with Highbury, he is held in high regard there. Frank
Churchill is also a very wealthy man of the trade and because of his known wealth he is the talk of
Highbury society. Through satire of the high class society (Sir Walter), and through approval and
regard for navy and trade professions as a means of social mobility, Austen shows that the current
social structure is moderately changing for the better.
Although there are benefits of social mobility from new wealth peoples and patrons, tradition in
maintaining class structure is imperative and belonging to a class should be accompanied with
finances. After Mr. Elton proposes to Emma, the narrator attempts to understand Mr. Elton s motives.
Perhaps it was not fair to expect him to feel how very much he was her inferior in talent, and all the
elegancies

Is America A Beautiful Country
Some might say that America is a beautiful country, and that it is filled with freedom and hard work,
but is it truly? After some quick research, I have come to disagree. Even though we are a powerful
country, we seem to be divided amongst our people by some particular reasons. After some further
research, I have come to conclude that these reasons are;Political problems, unhealthy food, and the
fact that other countries have what we have. You may be thinking, How would this cause someone to
leave the country, and how could some of these reasons separate us as a country? Well, I think so for
these particular reasons.
Starting off, it is a known fact that politics affect everyday life. So if you have political problems, than
it is going to have a negative impact on everyday life. Not only that, but it covers such broad aspect of
life, and will affect almost EVERY SINGLE PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE. To give an example, if
there are bias and inequality in politics, it will definitely affect the people on the other end of the
sword. Ironically, this does happen, through racism, and mistreatment of the LGBTQ s. Racism has
been a thing in America ever since our freedom from England. From American slavery to segregation,
it was almost considered edicate to dislike and mistreat blacks and mexicans. Now that segregation is
illegal, and illegal working conditions for mexican immigrants isn t as big as a problem, people think
that racism doesn t exist. Well, looking at examples through history, you can t kill a culture with laws,
and this isn t an exception. When I was ten, my youngest sister s friend s mom wouldn t allow her to
go to her party, because she was black. My older sister and father have both been called derogatory
and racist names growing up. A lady opened up her house to victims in the Las Vegas shooting to help,
but she wouldn t allow any blacks or gays. There are also countless videos online of people being
racist. Two that come to mind is when a lady wouldn t let her child be seen by a black doctor, and one
woman called a black man racist names and spit on him. An epidemic of unarmed young black males
have been getting shot and killed by police for almost no reason. The L.A riots were caused because of

But, over the years, the reverse has more often than not be the case in Nigeria. Before and after
independence, the state of Nigeria has always been riddled with the problem of ethnicity, and the civil
service as an institution that is suppose to be transparent and impartial has been affected by this trend,
so much so that the citizenry are beginning to lose faith in the civil service institution due to poor and
ineffective service delivery. Given the above view, this paper intends to ascertain the claim that,
ethnicity has impacted negatively on civil service delivery in Nigeria. In the circumstance effort will
be made to answer the following questions:
(i) What gave rise to ethnicity in the civil service?
(ii) How has it affected the service?
(iii) What concrete measures have been take to solve the problem?
(iv) How could such problems be overcome?

Civil War Reconstruction Dbq Essay
During the time period of 1860 and 1877 many major changes occurred. From the beginning of the
civil war to the fall of the reconstruction, the United States changed dramatically. Nearly one hundred
years after the Declaration of Independence which declared all men equal, many social and
constitutional alterations were necessary to protect the rights of all people, no matter their race. These
social and constitutional developments that were made during 1860 to 1877 were so drastic it could be
called a revolution.
The election of Abraham Lincoln and the secession of the South led to the outbreak of the civil war.

When blacks were given the right to vote, it was only somewhat successful. Many blacks did use their
new political power to vote as it is shown in Harper s Weekly (Document G), but whites still tried to
stop them. Literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and fear caused by the Ku Klux Klan were used to keep
blacks from exercising their right to vote. Another issue of reconstruction was the banking and
currency system. In an attempt to uniform the currency, Senator John Sherman gave a speech saying
that with a currency and a medium of exchange, we shall have a broader and more generous
nationality (Document B). At the time many states had their own currency and a change needed to be
made to unite the states. A sense of nationality was needed as the nation was in turmoil after the
attempted secession of the South. Reconstruction came to an end in 1877 with the Compromise of
1877. Rutherford Hayes became president for agreeing to end federal support for Southern
Republicans and building a transcontinental railroad. In this compromise he also withdrew troops
from the South. This, along with the rejection of laws protecting blacks from discrimination, brought
reconstruction to an end in 1877.
Many social changes occurred during the time from 1860 to 1877. In the history of the United States,
blacks had been viewed as less than equal to whites. This was clearly shown through the three fifths
compromise which counted slaves as less than an actual

Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre
Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge?
The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the
area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness of this unreality, in order
to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore, it could be
argued that suspension of disbelief is essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in
order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the
unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts,
which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religion provide personal and subjective
knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also
essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion,
heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced
through a direct correspondence with reality, Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that
create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be
directly observed. It could be argued that suspension of disbelief is, an essential part of knowing in so
much as knowing is a process of joining between shared

Summary Of Nursing Documentation
Such system failures as poor documentation was researched and described by Blair and Smith (2012)
in the article Nursing Documentation: Frameworks and Barriers . Such frameworks of nursing
documentation as narrative charting, clinical pathways, and focus documentation were described. This
article provided literature to effective documentation and emphasized barriers to safe documentation.
The goal of the project was to find appropriate frameworks for legal and correct documentation that
could improve patient outcomes (Blair Smith, 2012). Another research by Barker and Phillips (2010)
relates to insufficient drug information and inadequate drug references. A new study on medication
errors was conducted in San Diego, in

Six Walks In The Fictional Woods
Umberto Eco in his book Six Walks in the Fictional Woods discusses several literature theories, which
he originally told to students at the Harvard University. I, mostly, enjoyed reading it, because his
vision of literature, his thoughts about books, authors, readers are different from mine, and that is one
of the reasons why it is interesting. Of course, I did not understand everything, because Eco uses lots
of unknown to me terminology and because of lack of experience from my side in literature and life.
To begin with, I wanted to speak a little bit about two definitions from his first lecture Entering the
Woods. Eco, there introduces a model reader. But what exactly does it mean? According to Eco, model
reader a sort of ideal type whom the text ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is it good or bad? I think no because everyone thinks differently, everyone chooses their own path. So
do I. It is up to me, what I will choose, where I will go, what I will think about. It is like walking in
the woods (about what Eco told in his lecture), where are lots of trails, paths and every one of them
will lead a reader to a whole different thing. It does not matter, will it be wrong or correct, because we
all make mistakes and we all learn from them, it is right for me while walking in the wood to use
every experience and every discovery to learn about life, about the past and the future (p. 9). If I will
choose incorrect path while reading, if I will come to a deadlock with understanding a text, later on, I
will go back to the beginning and try another path. But if in literature we are able to go back and start
from the beginning, in real life it is mostly impossible. That s why I think books are a good place to
make mistakes, to try different paths, to choose the correct one, to gain more experience. But this is
not what I wanted to

The Effect Of Dehydration Of Cyclohexene
In this experiment, dehydration is carried out using cyclohexanol to obtain cyclohexene. This acid
catalysed reaction involves E1 elimination mechanism. The dehydration of alcohol will remove OH
from cyclohexanol to form cyclohexene. Cyclohexene contains a single double bond in the molecule.
It is a six carbon aromatic hydrocarbon. Phosphoric acid is mixed with cyclohexanol in the round
bottomed flask and is heated. The phosphoric acid act as a catalyst that increases the rate of reaction
but it does not change the overall stoichiometry. The acid catalyst will convert the hydroxyl group into
a good leaving group. It is an equilibrium reaction in which the equilibrium is forced to the right
(alkene). (Department of Chemistry 2014) Boling chips are added to the distillating flask. If not, the

formation of carbocation intermediate (rate determining step).
Questions:
1. Dehydration of cyclohexanol gives cyclohexene. Draw mechanism for the reaction.
2. What alkene(s) will be produced when each of the following alcohols is dehydrated?
a) t butyl alcohol CH3 CH3 CH3 C OH CH3 C = CH2 + H2O CH3 Ans: 2 methyl 1 propene
b) 3 methylcyclohexanol
Ans: 1 methylcyclohexene, 3 methylcyclohexene and 4 methylcyclohexene.
3. The dehydration of 3,3 dimethyl 2 butanol yields three different products. Write equations to show
how carbocation rearrangements explain two of the products.
Ans: A secondary carbocation is formed initially, it then rearranges to a tertiary carbocation when a
neighbouring methyl group with its bonding electron pair migrates to the positive carbon. The charge
is transferred to the tertiary

renewable energy developers and environmental organizations were also involved. The DRECP goals
could be split up into three major categories.
For renewable energy development, the Plan hopes to identify a common planning goal of producing
20,000 megawatts by 2040, involving a range of different renewable energy technologies. To locate
new renewable energy development focus areas with suitable energy resources as well as updating
existing renewable energy sites. DRECP s focus for the ecological side is to preserve, restore, and
enhance natural communities and ecosystems and conserve sensitive species (What is DRECP, 2016).

PRIVITIZATION

Privatization basically being the process of transferring ownership of specific property and business
transactions basically from a governed owned operation to a private operation. This focus has been
widely used in the context of the organizations and industrial operations in the capital market. (Cook
Kirkpatrick, 1988, Cook Paul, 1986; Kay Thompson, 1986)

The Germ Theory
In the light of the germ theory...[d]jseases are to be considered as a struggle between the organism and
the parasites invading it. The aforementioned quote, by Henry Gandle, a professor of physiology at
Chicago Medical College, characterizes the germ theory through the collective human struggle against
disease inducing microorganisms. In a period of discovery, where the nature of various germs and
diseases were brought to light, the common conception encompassed a war between humans and
diseases; this analogy to a war implicates a united effort on the part of the human race in battling these
dangerous microorganisms. Tomes writes in The Gospel of Germs not only of the different scientific

In the Southwood Smith excerpt, he depicts the ideal method of quarantine as influenced by neither
ancient prejudices, nor an excess of anxiety to avert possible danger, should induce the continuance of
restrictions inessential to their object. In other words, Southwood Smith acknowledges not only the
active societal biases, but also that these partialities can enter the medical realm through prejudicial
treatment of disease. A society with such prominent discrimination, including in those with medical
clout, has the capacity to formulate racial and class bias in germ theory that is but an extension of
already existing anxieties concerning other less well off members of society. Rather than bringing
people together in response to the fear of disease, quarantine had the capacity to create a more
segregated society praying on the middle and upper class fears of disease spreading through the other,
discriminated members of society. African Americans are among the societal groups that lacked the
societal cohesiveness Tomes attributes to the gospel of germs insofar as they remained segregates and
relatively uneducated on the new germ theories in comparison to other members of society. In an

A Man And A Doll. Society As A Unit, Has Been Pushing Towards
A Man and a Doll
Society as a unit, has been pushing towards the ideal state of living throughout most of history. People
had used symbols and ideas to get points across to help push and fix where society has holes to further
integrate the perfect principles that will then replace social norms, and break through what once was a
flawed belief system. the social rights activist Malcom X was one of these icons who fought to create
a better world for African Americans. The child s toy Barbie, was a symbol towards women and
pushed the idea of that women can push through the ideals that society wanted them to be. Both for a
cause, one plastic, one man, both with an idea.

The three main key events that are included in the novel include the crucial reasoning to why Malcolm
expressed himself the way he did. The events that distinguished Malcolm s character were racial
identity, systemic oppression, and integration v separation.
Ruth Handler created Barbie, after noticing her daughter playing with paper dolls and she was playing
the role of a mother, as most women were expected to be. The basic standard for women were to be a
housewife, and most young girl s toys were children or infants. Ms. Handler wanted to influence
young girls to be anything they wanted. Barbie s purpose was to be an adult to further portray the
young girl s dreams, which is why she specifically sought out an adult woman to depict her doll, this
way when young girls play pretend they would seek a better future outside of motherhood.
Both Malcolm x and Barbie received a great deal of criticism before becoming famous and influential,
Malcolm x was viewed as a racist and a criminal, he was put in jail and spent seven years there. In jail
was called Satan for cursing at God multiple times, but it was then that he had met another cell mate,
John Bembry and realized that he was trying to be someone that he was not; the white man and he
then developed hatred and anger for all those who were white. the devil white man cut these black

Retirement Planning Essay
Retirement Retirement seems to be one of the most often overlooked areas of people s future plan.
Simply because it seems so far away, it is an area that is subject to procrastination. People are
expected to live longer now than ever before, this is another reason why young adults and teenagers
are not worried about saving for their retirement. The baby boom generation, the seventy seven
million people born between 1943 and 1960, face an entirely different retirement plan. As they began
to retire, people are starting to think that there will be no money left and this will turn into a crisis.

Someone who contributes even a little as a teenager can end up with quite a bit of money later on.
With a Roth IRA your beneficiaries will not have to pay income tax on it. A Traditional IRA is for
taxpayers that are under the age of seventy and a half, who are still working. Some people prefer the
traditional IRA because they can get an immediate tax deduction equal to the contribution they put in.
The money in a Traditional IRA grows tax deferred. You have to pay a tax on all your earnings.

penalties. There are also penalties on withdrawals before the age of fifty nine and a half such a ten

Essay on Russel Conwell Acres of Diamonds
Russel Conwell Acres of Diamonds
According to Russell Conwell s speech Acres of Diamonds, wealth is accessible to you no matter who
or where you are. The term acres of diamonds doesn t literally refer to acres of diamonds, but is a
metaphor used to express the belief that opportunities are endless if you just use your resources. You
should also be reasonably ambitious to attain your goals. A man s ambition to attain wealth helps to
make him a good man. Opportunities surround us in our everyday lives. It s just a matter of being
honest, trustworthy, and hard working. Conwell says Now then, I say again that the opportunity to get

In the two previously mentioned stories, the mens love for money was what compelled them to sell
their posessions and go in search for their fortunes. These men wanted the money for themselves, not
for the good of the world, and in the end, faced their demise.
Despite Conwells experiences, his audience repeatedly tried to prove him wrong and noted how awful
it was that a Christian minister prefered to advise people to get rich rather than to preach the gospel.
But Conwell believed that to make money honestly was to preach the gospel and to be poor was
wrong. What the people did not understand was that a wealthy person can also be a pious person.
Conwell tells the people that they should have money and it is their Christian and godly duty to do so.
To be pious is to be carful of the duties owed by created beings to God; devout, godly, religious¹. The
people associated wealth with being dishonest, dishonerable, mean, and contemptible. He told them
that to think that to be pious you must be poor and awfully dirty is an terrible misconception. He
maked the distinction between money and honesty by saying that one who associates having money
with being dishonest, dishonorable, mean, and contemptible is the one who has no money because

put it on a leash, she yelled. You old witch, just wait till I tell my dad, he ll fix you, the boy cried. Oh,

Explain The Five Steps To Describe Baye Theorem And...
Lauren Berman Chapter 8 Biostatistics Data 1.) Describe Bayes theorem and alternative to Bayes
theorem. Bayes theorem is used to answer two different questions, If the test results are positive, what
is the probability that the patient has the disease? and If the test results are negative, what is the
probability that the patient does not have the disease (93). In the formula for Bayes theorem, the
numerator is the true positive results and the denominator tells about true positive results and false
positive results. An alternative to Bayes theorem is used in genetics (94). 2.) Explain the five steps to
setting up a decision tree. There are five steps involved in creating a decision tree. The first step is to
identify and set limits to the problem, for example whether or not the gallbladder of a person without
symptoms should be removed. The second step is to diagram the options. This can be done by starting
with the patient s current clinical status, then laying out the different options and the outcomes that
could come from each option. The third step is to obtain information on each option. In this step, the
possibility of each outcome occurring should be assessed and then the outcomes should be separated
into desirable and undesirable outcomes. The fourth step is to compare utility values and the fifth step
is to perform sensitivity analysis (97 98). 3.) Define the two different types of meta analysis. A
qualitative meta analysis is a systemic review of the literature on a particular topic (99). Different
articles on the same topic are reviewed and the results, strengths, and weaknesses of each article are
assessed. A quantitative meta analysis can be presented in two ways, either the data are analyzed as
reported in the literature, or the raw data from multiple studies are obtained and aggregated (100). 4.)
Explain the difference between independence rule, product rule, and addition rule. The independence
rule says that one probability is not influenced by the outcome of another probability (101). In this
situation, if the two probabilities are independent of each other, then the trial can be repeated twice in
a row and multiple times. The product rule is used to determine the

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Radical Reconstruction At the end of the Civil War, the nation s government was tasked with sewing back together a nation so divided that they were willing to kill each other and split in two. While those that started the war may not have been rational, those that ended the war were. Among the most pressing issues the Reconstruction drafters faced like compensating northerners and not alienating the South, providing justice to African Americans especially freed slaves stood forward as the primary moral goal. After all, by the end of the war, the North s endgame became less about state defiance and more about the moral obligation of emancipation. The North first employed a strategy of appeasement to save the dignity of the South but after a recalcitrant South refused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it did temporarily provide African Americans with de jure equality, Radical Reconstruction did not eliminate the intrinsic barriers of prejudice and neglect to African American prosperity in the South and did not keep freedmen from being once again disenfranchised to sharecropping and enslaved to debt after Northern supervision stagnated. Freedom, as defined by Garrison Frazier, a Baptist minister representing Savannah s black community, was placing us where we could reap the fruit of our own labor, and take care of ourselves, and African Americans were unable to do that despite laws that purportedly freed African Americans. In fact, most of the impacts of Radical Reconstruction an abandoned black community, a makeshift union, and an empowered white supremacy movement overlooked by a corrupt state government system could have been achieved by simply engaging with the normal Reconstruction. Radical Reconstruction may have actually been worse because of the widened rift between the North and the South, with resentment of the federal government s military intervention fostering a reluctancy for the South to cooperate. Even though African Americans would have to wait decades for a semblance of justice, it is perhaps for the better that the North did not force the South the alter their worldview. For the United States government is not Orwell s thought police, and the nation s laws are unable to oversee every single interaction and microaggression that citizens face as a result of others preconceived notions and judgements. Considering that both gentle and strict approaches were tried, there is very little that officials could have done to feasibly create a perfect reconstruction, and hitting with a heavier hand would only further a stronger backlash. If they had done any one thing better, it would have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Better-Than-Average Effect Critically argue whether the better than average effect has overall positive or negative implications to individuals and/or society. The better than average (or BTAE) effect states that certain individuals would evaluate themselves more positively than the average person. Within this, there is argument to suggest that there are both positive and negative implications linked to this theory. The concept of self plays a large role in discovering whether these factors affect the individual, whereas social comparison is also a great aspect in understanding how the better than average effect can include itself into everyday society, therefore creating an unrealistic divide between different groups. The idea of self is a significant part of every individual s life. The way we visualise ourselves can be altered by feelings of self worth and self esteem and lead to a change or influence in the way we act. The evaluation of one s attitude towards self can be seen to be improved by the individual believing they are worthy which could lead to a self fulfilling prophecy. The better than average effect can depict this theory by assessing individuals on their motivational bias and attributes (Brown, 2011). In this particular study, participants are given a questionnaire regarding ten traits, half of high importance and half of low importance. They were then told to rate these attributes on importance of possession. As predicted, the results show that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. China s Survival of Crisis Due to Economic Reforms Essay China s Survival of Crisis Due to Economic Reforms In the years before 1976, many unwise policies were carried out which brought China into a crisis of communism, or a state in which communism was threatened. The Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution were specifically the main causes of the crisis of communism and the mastermind between these two movements, Mao Zedong, can be held responsible for their initiation. The Great Leap Forward was a great economic failure. Years of famine and intense suffering came about as a result of this skewed project of Mao s. Consequently, he was sidelined in the CCP. From post 1976 onwards, Deng Xiaoping and his conservative pragmatist government would bring great reform to China, which would allow her to tide over the troubles caused by the crisis in communism. Indeed, it would seem that his economic reforms were the main reason for China s survival, as opposed to political reform. Under Deng Xiaoping, action was taken to move China from a Soviet style command economy to a more capitalist market economy. On the other hand, political reform was not as pronounced as Deng wished to retain the traditional communist style of party dictatorship. When Deng came into power, China s economy had not progressed as much as Mao had imagined it would. The crisis in communism had also had an adverse effect on the economy. Deng s catch phrase it doesn t matter if the cat is black or white so long as it catches the mouse encapsulates his entire approach towards economic reform. His economic reforms were very obviously not in line with communism at all but he felt that if they could bring greater prosperity to China, it was worth it to adopt these new measures. The reforms took place largely in rural China. There was increased emphasis and investment on consumer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is still both enthusiasm for and doubts about the usage of educational technology in the classroom. However, the integration of technology in reading instruction has kept up with the movements and changes in the field of the reading and writing curriculum. While faced with many book shortages, this article also gives ideas for strengthening the skill of students in writing and reading instruction. It suggests that students participate in invisible writing as a sort of pre writing activity. Through this, students will turn the monitor of the computer off for approximately one to three minutes, so that they cannot see what they are typing. Students have reported that this exercise has helped them develop fluency, has freed them from continuously checking their mistakes and losing their train of thought, and has also increased their interest in viewing what they had to say. Thus, students will have learned how to produce more thoughtfully enriched texts that teachers can build on through other types of instruction. In addition to this, in the face of textbooks shortages, teachers have at hand a source for retrieving other forms of literature. On line are numerous programs that encourage students to read along with it, while it reads aloud. There are also programs that allow students to retrieve definitions and illustrations of the words, and thus promoting students to interactions in literacy. Lastly, in the article, ... • 9. The Management Programs Of A Computer Introduction Operating systems, ( OS ) are the management programs of a computer. First it is booted into the computer by a boot program, and then it manages all other programs on the computer. These other programs are called applications, and they utilize an operating system by making requests for process service power through an API, or application program interface. Users then interact directly with an operating system through a graphical user interface or command language. History The earliest computers lacked any form of operating system because they were simple mainframes. The machines were primitive and programs were often entered into the system one bit at a time, through many mechanical switches and plug boards. There were no operating systems during the first phase of computer history from 1940 1955. By the 1950s, punch cards were introduced and made it so switches were not as necessary any more. The IBM 701, from General Motors Research Laboratories, was the first system that implemented an operating system. The systems generally ran one job at a time, which was indicated by whatever was on the punch card. This is called single stream batch processing. Computers were just exotic experimental equipment, and mainly tested theory. The use plugboards would direct the computer. Without operating systems, there is no overlap between computation, I/O, think time, and response time. The specific goal was to handle tables of numbers. Libraries ... Thanks to the women s right movement, this has all changed and things run a little differently now. Spouses are now equal under the law and property is shared between them. In the common law, all women s property except land and improvements went to her husband and it became under his control. She pretty much had no say in what happened to any of her things. Without it they had to worry about not being able to keep the things they owned if their husbands had died or if they were just ignorant and left their wives. If they had children the women had to worry about loosing their kids in the middle of it. Their kids could be sent to somebody that wouldn t be a very good guardian for them. Not only was it messing up the women s lives it was messing up their kids too. The fight for married womens property acts was not as bad as the fight for womens rights. They did not have to go through the danger of their lives. One couple that did protest was Lucy Stone and Henry Blackwell. They protested for the custody of the wives person. • 13. Class Rigidity and Social Mobility In late eighteenth and early nineteenth century England there was a sort of moral code of behavior and standards that are to be maintained by the middle and upper classes of society. Austen realistically mirrors this code through the characters and plots of her novels while showing that social flexibility was narrow and class boundaries were strict. The topics of class stringency and social mobility are important areas in Jane Austen s literature. We begin to see that Austen is not a revolutionary as she supports and preserves the morals and customs of societies hierarchy. However she often encourages and backs the emergence of new wealth permitting greater social mobility. In Austen s world the naval and tradesmen professions ... This suggests that Wentworth is more favorable to support Anne than Sir Walter, even though he thinks himself highly superior to Wentworth. After Frank Churchill arrives in town Emma takes him to shop at Ford s and says You will be adored in Highbury. You were very popular before you came, because you were Mr. Weston s son (Austen, Emma, 155). Mr. Weston was a former army captain and earned enough money to buy his own land putting him in a higher social situation. This quotation shows that not only is Mr. Weston associated with Highbury, he is held in high regard there. Frank Churchill is also a very wealthy man of the trade and because of his known wealth he is the talk of Highbury society. Through satire of the high class society (Sir Walter), and through approval and regard for navy and trade professions as a means of social mobility, Austen shows that the current social structure is moderately changing for the better. Although there are benefits of social mobility from new wealth peoples and patrons, tradition in maintaining class structure is imperative and belonging to a class should be accompanied with finances. • 14. Is America A Beautiful Country Some might say that America is a beautiful country, and that it is filled with freedom and hard work, but is it truly? After some quick research, I have come to disagree. Even though we are a powerful country, we seem to be divided amongst our people by some particular reasons. After some further research, I have come to conclude that these reasons are;Political problems, unhealthy food, and the fact that other countries have what we have. You may be thinking, How would this cause someone to leave the country, and how could some of these reasons separate us as a country? Well, I think so for these particular reasons. Starting off, it is a known fact that politics affect everyday life. So if you have political problems, than it is going to have a negative impact on everyday life. Not only that, but it covers such broad aspect of life, and will affect almost EVERY SINGLE PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE. To give an example, if there are bias and inequality in politics, it will definitely affect the people on the other end of the sword. Ironically, this does happen, through racism, and mistreatment of the LGBTQ s. Racism has been a thing in America ever since our freedom from England. From American slavery to segregation, it was almost considered edicate to dislike and mistreat blacks and mexicans. Now that segregation is illegal, and illegal working conditions for mexican immigrants isn t as big as a problem, people think that racism doesn t exist. Well, looking at examples through history, you can t kill a culture with laws, and this isn t an exception. When I was ten, my youngest sister s friend s mom wouldn t allow her to go to her party, because she was black. My older sister and father have both been called derogatory and racist names growing up. A lady opened up her house to victims in the Las Vegas shooting to help, but she wouldn t allow any blacks or gays. There are also countless videos online of people being racist. Two that come to mind is when a lady wouldn t let her child be seen by a black doctor, and one woman called a black man racist names and spit on him. These social and constitutional developments that were made during 1860 to 1877 were so drastic it could be called a revolution. Many blacks did use their new political power to vote as it is shown in Harper s Weekly (Document G), but whites still tried to stop them. Literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and fear caused by the Ku Klux Klan were used to keep blacks from exercising their right to vote. Another issue of reconstruction was the banking and currency system. In an attempt to uniform the currency, Senator John Sherman gave a speech saying that with a currency and a medium of exchange, we shall have a broader and more generous nationality (Document B). At the time many states had their own currency and a change needed to be made to unite the states. A sense of nationality was needed as the nation was in turmoil after the attempted secession of the South. Reconstruction came to an end in 1877 with the Compromise of 1877. Rutherford Hayes became president for agreeing to end federal support for Southern Republicans and building a transcontinental railroad. In this compromise he also withdrew troops from the South. This, along with the rejection of laws protecting blacks from discrimination, brought reconstruction to an end in 1877. Many social changes occurred during the time from 1860 to 1877. • 20. Importance Of Suspension Of Disbelief In Theatre Suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre. Is it essential in other areas of knowledge? The title states that suspension of disbelief is an essential feature of theatre, a discipline within the area of knowledge of the arts and it includes suspending our own awareness of this unreality, in order to be immersed in and enjoy the story we are reading, watching or listening to. Therefore, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is essential in the Arts and other areas of knowledge, because in order to be immersed and have a deeper understanding you need to suspend your own thoughts of the unreality of what you are interpreting or visualising. Whilst theatre is one of the disciplines in the Arts, which like other subjective areas of knowledge such as Religion provide personal and subjective knowledge through the suspension of disbelief, it could be argued that suspension of disbelief is also essential in other more objective subjects, such as Maths and Science. Whilst the Arts and Religion, heavily rely on interpretation of symbolic and figurative meanings, which cannot be evidenced through a direct correspondence with reality, Science and Maths also rely on abstract concepts that create a visual representation of reality through symbols and equations, rather than a reality that can be directly observed. • 33. Explain The Five Steps To Describe Baye Theorem And... Lauren Berman Chapter 8 Biostatistics Data 1.) Describe Bayes theorem and alternative to Bayes theorem. Bayes theorem is used to answer two different questions, If the test results are positive, what is the probability that the patient has the disease? and If the test results are negative, what is the probability that the patient does not have the disease (93). In the formula for Bayes theorem, the numerator is the true positive results and the denominator tells about true positive results and false positive results. An alternative to Bayes theorem is used in genetics (94). 2.) Explain the five steps to setting up a decision tree. There are five steps involved in creating a decision tree. The first step is to identify and set limits to the problem, for example whether or not the gallbladder of a person without symptoms should be removed. The second step is to diagram the options. This can be done by starting with the patient s current clinical status, then laying out the different options and the outcomes that could come from each option. The third step is to obtain information on each option. In this step, the possibility of each outcome occurring should be assessed and then the outcomes should be separated into desirable and undesirable outcomes. The fourth step is to compare utility values and the fifth step is to perform sensitivity analysis (97 98). 3.) Define the two different types of meta analysis. A qualitative meta analysis is a systemic review of the literature on a particular topic (99). Different articles on the same topic are reviewed and the results, strengths, and weaknesses of each article are assessed.
