Reagan Administration s Foreign Policy in Latin America...
Reagan Administration s Foreign Policy in Latin America
Throughout the Cold War the United States considered the installation in Latin America of radical
regimes socialist, Marxist Leninist, or leftist in any way to be utterly intolerable. Any such
development would represent an advance for the communist cause and a vital loss for the West.
Acceptance of this outcome could weaken the credibility of the United States as the leader of the west
and as a rival for the USSR. In the eyes of Cold Warriors, the consolidation of any left wing regime in
the Western Hemisphere would have dire and perilous implications for U.S. national security and for
the global distribution of power. It was therefore crucial to resist this possibility by ... Show more

The next day Reagan signed an executive order approving the invasion. A combined force of 1,900 US
Marines and army airborne troops launched an assault on Grenada. All significant military objectives
were achieved in roughly 36 hours. Reagan justified the operation as an effort to protect US citizens
whose safety was threatened because a gang of leftist thugs (Lake 182) had seized power to forestall
further chaos, and assist in restoration of democracy.
In El Salvador, a mountainous coffee growing country of 5 million citizens was ruled by an unholy
alliance of large scale landowners and military officers. Acceleration of agriculture exports during the
1960 s led to an increased concentration of rural holdings by large scale landowners and in turn
increased the percentage of peasants who had no land at all. A reformist challenge to the status quo
came through the Christian Democratic Party, under the leadership of José Duarte. As mayor of San
Salvador, Duarte built strong connections with intellectuals, professionals, and other middle class
groups that if the military hadn t interfered and imposed dictatorial rule he would have surely won the
election for presidency in 1972. Fake elections in 1977 led to the installation of General Carlos
Humberto Romero as president, who imposed a law to defend and guarantee public order. Duarte
himself was imprisoned, tortured, and exiled but never fled to the hills. A

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Planet
The effects of climate change have become more apparent than ever within the last 100 years.
Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in 30 years being recorded
(Houghton, 1994). Suggested cause of this increase is population change, the ever increasing demand
for natural resources to sustain economic growth has resulted in exploitation of ecological systems at a
rate never recorded before. These huge changes to the planet will have a knock on effect to individual
and global ecosystems resulting in varying levels of positive feedback. Throughout this essay I will be
discussing on various ways climate change effects the ecology of the planet.
The planet shows fluctuations of temperature from millions of years ago. ... Show more content on

Evidence such as the rising of sea level by 17cm in the last century or the 150 250km3 loss of
Greenland ice per year between 2002 2006 (NASA, 2014) proves that climate change is happening to
us currently and the effects are immediate.
The Carbon Cycle consists of the vital components for all animal and plant lives. It is primarily a
reflection on primary and secondary production (Krebs, 2009). As seen in Figure 2, carbon levels have
not been constant throughout history. Figure 3 represents the basic components of the Carbon cycle.
The diagram shows that the oceans are the largest sink of carbon, and is at a constant equilibrium of
atmospheric CO2 and aqueous CO2. The increase in atmospheric CO2 levels causes ocean
acidification by decreasing the pH of the oceans. PH values are said to have dropped by 0.1pH units
since pre industrial levels and are expected to drop a further 0.3 units by the end of the 20th century
(Scott C Doney, 2007). This chemical change will have knock on affects in many marine ecosystems,
which will be discussed later.
However, there are positive results of the rapid increase of CO2 in relation to plants a; CO2
enrichment will no longer be a limiting factor of photosynthesis. Evidence of this is results from 3,586

The Great Mosque Of Cordoba Vs. Hagia Sophia
The Great Mosque of Cordoba vs. Hagia Sophia Religion has played a huge role in the history of the
world of architecture. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we look at
their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the approach to
architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches and the outlooks of
those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings, the Hagia Sophia and
the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their approach to constructing
architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion played a huge role, there are
similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who commissioned these buildings were
interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that their building was the most beautiful and
perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The
Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinople in A.D. 532 by the emperor Justinian, who hired the
renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was built over an existing building built by
Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very significant building of its time and one that drew
attention and respect. At this time in history the Byzantines, specifically Justinian, wanted to make one
message clear, that message being that the emperor of the byzantines empire,

PW treated the Claimant unreasonably and improperly, the Claimant also believes that PW circulated
communications throughout the academic community damaging his reputation, and preventing a
satisfactory resolution.
The Claimant constantly informed senior management in the respondent organisation of the steps
being taken by the Professors to undermine his role to a considerable degree. Since the matter could
not be resolved amicably the claimant pursued the formal grievance procedure. The Claimant wrote a
grievance letter to the Dean of his School, on the 21/01/08. On the 22/01/08 PD wrote to JD informing
him of the Claimant s formal complaint against PW and the others.
On the 22/01/ 08 JD wrote the Claimant informing him that he had received his formal complaint and
as the Head of School he would take on the task of manager on the grievance.
JD commenced investigating the grievance process on the 24/01/08 by meeting and interviewing all
involved in the case.
On 6/03.08 JD sent the Claimant a mail informing the Claimant of his decision not to uphold his
grievance, giving his reasons as well. The Claimant was concerned because some of his grievance was
not answered. This led the Claimant to pursue the next stage of internal grievance process. On the
6/03/08 the Claimant lodged an Appeal.
On 10/03/08 PW and MM wrote an apology letter to the Claimant who claimed he did not get the

Brian Mulroney tied Canada closer to the United States On September 17th, 1984 Martin Brian
Mulroney became the 18th Prime Minister of Canada (see fig1).
Fig. 1. Brian Mulroney s first year in office (1984), he led the first conservative majority government
in 26 years.1
As the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, he developed a close relationship with
U.S President Ronald Regan; both men shared a similar conservative philosophy. As Canada s Prime
Minister, Mulroney sought closer ties with the United States, on issues such as trade policies and
North American Aerospace Defence Command system (NORAD). During the Mulroney era, Canada

As Mulroney came to office in 1985, he dismantled the FIRA and replaced it with Investment Canada,
a new system which he believed would encourage suitable foreign investment. FIRA was criticized by
those who concerned about American economic influence, since it almost approved every application
it received. At the time, in some industries, such as the petroleum and rubber products industries,
foreign control exceeded ninety per cent. Over three fourths of this control was held by United Sates
investors.6 These new and old policies brought better and higher rate of business income between
Canada and the United Sates, which resulted in closer ties between the two countries. In 1987,
Mulroney opened up negotiations that would eventually lead to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
between Canada and United States. The FTA was signed on October 4th, 1987 in hopes of improving
trade transactions between the two countries (see fig2).

In the FTA, all tariffs on goods crossing the border were removed, and at the same time, opened
Canada to U.S investment and vice versa. As suspected, the free trade issue was highly controversial
among Canadians. Some Canadian businesses could not compete against U.S corporations, for these
corporations were able to flood

Essay Product Liability
In this age of endless lawsuits and litigation from everyone suing everyone else, one must ask the
question where does product liability end and consumer responsibility begin? This question has been
further complicated by occurrences that stretch to the most far reaching ends of this spectrum, the
spectrum ranging from strict product liability of the company to complete consumer responsibility. On
the strict product liability of the company side, we have the cigarette industry where the CEOs of the
largest cigarette companies denied that their product was liable for the cause of addiction. Almost all
consumers know that the ingredient nicotine in cigarettes is addictive, due to extensive scientific
testing and reports on this fact. What ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand the case of Alejandro Phillips v. Columbia Pictures, it is very important to look at the
arguments and points that can be made by both sides. First, I will examine the legal claims of Mr.
Phillips. The main argument made by Mr. Phillips was that Columbia Pictures was negligent in how
they marketed and advertised the movie Boyz N the Hood. He argued that the movie s advertising
falsely represented the movie by depicting only the main scenes of violence and leaving out the
pacifist themes at the heart of the movie. Mr. Phillips obviously believes that this false representation
is what caused the violence that lead to him being shot outside the theatre at the showing of this
movie. Now the question is whether or not Mr. Phillips s arguments have any root in the legal realm.
Can a company be held liable for leading consumers down the wrong path, whether intentionally or
not? According to the verdict reached in Denny v. Ford Motor Company, yes, Ads and marketing
materials can subject manufacturers to litigation and, ultimately, to liability (Giliberti, p. 53). In this
case, the Denny family was suing Ford because of a flipping incident that occurred in the Denny s
Bronco II while driving on normal roads. Ford argued that they were not liable because the Bronco II
is supposed to be used primarily for off road driving. In response, the Dennys introduced a Ford
marketing manual predicting that many buyers would be

On June 27, 1864 the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain was fought. The Union Army was currently
carrying out Sherman s March. Richard T Sherman was the commander of the Union Army and was
going up against the Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by Joseph E. Johnston. Sherman
was beating Johnston again and again with flanking maneuvers pushing the Confederates back all the
way to Kennesaw Mountain. Sherman decided to change his tactics and ordered a frontal assault
rather than another flanking maneuver. John Logan and his men assaulted Pigeon Hill while George
Thomas led his men on another aggressive attack on Cheatham Hill. Both failed miserably with costly
casualties. The Union did however manage to gain position on the Confederate s left

The Culture Of Consumerist Art
Consumerist culture is something that humans are constantly surrounded by, from the ornate gifts and
toys displayed in stores and window fronts to common household items thoroughly advertised. It has
become so normal that flashy ads and fancy billboard signs are something that has become expected to
see in the daily activities of life. Consumerist art is built around the familiar imagery of product
advertisements and everyday consumption practices, while also being deeply rooted in current social
context. Above all, consumerist art mirrors values of the dominant culture and makes comments and
address issues with the world (1). This type of art is unique in that it so profoundly relies on current
social activities to define itself. Additionally, this allows for extreme variety in how artists address
them and what issues they chose to represent.
Consumerism is generally accepted to be how individuals interact with the acquisition of products and
how they connect with the ever expanding world of goods and services. In the current trend,
companies believe that the amount of things someone posses determines their well being and success
as an individual. Thusly, advertisement reflects this, continuing the cycle of how prevalent the
consumer environment is in our culture and world (4). Fabrice Monteiro, an artist based in the fields
of portraiture, photojournalism, and fashion photography (3), is one of the many who tries to address
this product centric world through their art

Hiller s Essay Discussion
Gay rights have always been a controversial topic. For centuries, people have fought for the LGBT+
community to have the same rights as everyone else. Kurt Hiller and Lady Gaga share the same
passion of wanting LGBT+ equality. Through their different tones and dominant techniques, they both
deliver remarkable speeches. Kurt Hiller wrote the Appeal to the Second International Congress for
Sexual Reform on Behalf of an Oppressed Human Variety to persuade the International Congress to
give the gay community the same rights as the majority. However, Kurt Hiller did not deliver the
speech on behalf of his economic situation (Hiller). Magnus Hirschfeld was the one who spoke to the
International Congress about the inequality. No matter who gave the speech, Hiller was the heart of
the piece. Hiller s diction is complex and strong. To start off, he uses words like mockery and
squandered , words that one would guess is from a Shakespearean novel. (Hiller). The author does this
because the International Congress is the audience, simple words would not cut it. Congress wouldn t
take anyone seriously if they used the vocabulary of a six year old since a six year old doesn t have
any credibility. He manipulates his diction to add to his credibility, ... Show more content on

tried to find some cause for animosity. Arthur had persecuted his kind... perhaps not as much as his
father had, but he had also forced people with magic to live in secrecy and fear. He hadn t lifted the

The Rocking-Horse Winner, By D. H. Lawrence
This story is D. H. Lawrence s most grounded prosecution of realism and his most grounded
exhibition of the contrariness of the adoration for cash and the affection for individuals. In Paul s
troubled family, his folks marriage is inadmissible. His mom is sexually baffled: She had bonny
youngsters, yet she felt they had been pushed onto her. Clearly, she feels not satisfied, but rather
disregarded. The story tends to a couple of the subjects Lawrence is most exceptional for well, some
of them in any occasion. While it does exclude the same unequivocal sexuality that made Lawrence

Overview of Kurdistan Essay
Kurdistan is a region located between Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. The Kurds are the biggest ethnicity
on the planet without a state to this day. This paper will focus on the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, for it has
come the closest to a state like notion as per Weber s definition. Iraqi Kurdistan is a region
characterized by many diplomatic issues due to lack of acceptance as a state. The region was
established through an autonomy agreement with Iraqi government in 1970 after decades of disputes
between the Iraqi government and the Kurds in the north. The region had already established a
government, but it lacked many characteristics that are applicable to a state. The constant conflict with
the Iraqi government has been ongoing since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many Kurds, the need for a free independent Kurdistan with all four parts united has not been
forgotten and will never be. Various methods and strategies have been used in the attempt to establish
an independent state, but the prevailing conditions have always been against the Kurds, until the
second Gulf War and the toppling of Saddam. This is attributed to the lack of many defining
characteristics of a state, thus Weber s notion of a state can be used to describe the prevailing
conditions within the Iraqi Kurdistan (Zunes 19). It has been a difficult struggle for Iraqi Kurdistan to
achieve legitimacy as a state due to a lack of acceptance by the international community and constant
disputes with Iraq and neighboring countries.
Notion of a state
Based on Weber s notion of a state, a state can be defined as an establishment that is legitimate and
has the power and authority over its citizenry. Moreover, it should have an influence on the internal
affairs of the state as well as the foreign. As per Weber s specific definition, a state has an imposing
business model on honest to goodness viciousness (Oslon 673) Thus, various institutions and
foundations such as the military, common administration or state organization, courts, and police
characterize the state. The citizenry should also be involved in activities within the state. An example
is private equity whereby the citizenry contributes to the state by facilitating infrastructural growth
and economic

Victims of human trafficking continue to face health consequences years after their release. Potentially
one of the most devastating forms of human trafficking, sex trafficking and its associated sexual abuse
is responsible for the majority of long term health conditions that arise from trafficking (Muftic Finn,
2013). According to Muftic and Finn (2013), women who enter into sex work via human trafficking,
are at even greater odds of suffering from severe health conditions ...than women who enter into sex

Traumatic Brain Disorder (TBI)
1.5 million people in the United State of America have a traumatic brain disorder (TBI). These
disorders have symptoms of memory dysfunction, depression and anxiety; Dr. Byrnes and her team at
the Uniformed Services University have examined mouse models to find the cellular mechanisms for
these symptoms. When the brain experiences a traumatic injury, several cellular level events happen
quickly. First, there is an increase in supporting cell membrane permeability which leads to a rise in
non specific ion influx, followed by a rapid increase in glucose uptake. This increased glucose uptake
results in increased in energy generation in an effort to correct the membrane permeability
dysfunction.
The major route neurons use to increase their glucose

Communism Under Stalin vs. Mao
Josef Stalin and Mao Zedong were both very similar and still quite different. Each of these great
leaders wished to transform his country into something new and powerful. Though their methods of
rule were not the same, they each were extremely effective leaders and had enormous impacts on his
own country. Russia, before Stalin, could absolutely be considered as being a weak and peasant
country. China, before Mao Zedong, was attempting, but failing, to modernize efficiently under
Nationalism. These two countries under Stalin and Mao Zedong advanced quickly and went from
being smaller and mostly powerless countries to global powers. These advances, however, did not
come without sacrifice. Both countries suffered an astronomical number ... Show more content on

Though Stalin was the main reason Russia is the strong country it is currently, countless people died.
In fact, Stalin executed more people than Hitler killed, which is a horrific amount. China, like Russia,
was not an advanced country in the least. The country was ruled by corrupt nationalists, who despised
communists and killed them. This made China s change from a more nationalistic governing to a
communist system very difficult and very bloody. Mao Zedong was a leader in the communist party
during the civil war between nationalists and communists. He began as a strong and well loved leader,
quite opposite from Stalin. Mao Zedong would listen to others very well and try to understand their
way of thinking, which made him a very successful and loved leader. But when the communist party
took over China, he began to change into a hard headed and less understanding man. Communism
under Mao Zedong was beneficial for China. Mao Zedong pushed the citizens of China to be
cooperative with each other and share all of their belongings. He also tried to gain the trust and love of
all the lower class citizens by taking lands from the higher class citizens and giving them to lower
class citizens. He killed many landlords, which the majority of Chinese love him. He was praised for
his cruelty. So, in the end, Stalin and Mao Zedong became somewhat similar in their leadership, but
Stalin was much more cruel. In conclusion,

The Appalachian Region Of New York
Introduction
The Appalachian Region stretches from the northern part of New York, through Pennsylvanyia, all of
West Virginia, the West side of Kentucky, Mississippi, and the southern parts of Maryland, S.Carolina,
N. Carolina, and Alabama. The immigrants who settled in the Appalachian Region were made up of
three main ethinic backgrounds; Scot Irish, English, and German. Appalachian people are considered a
separate culture, made up of many unique backgrounds Native Americans, Irish, English and Scotch,
and then a third descendants of German and Polish immigrants all blended together across the region (
Appalachian Culture , 2015). The immigrants came to the Appalachian Region either in search of land
at cheaper prices or to get away from the Quacker Leaders. The Appalachian Region has proven to
create a hard way of life for those who settled the region. The people who settled in the Appalachian
region were known as hearty people who lived in an often difficult environment ( What is Unique ,
2015). Those who live in the Appalachian Region today may not face the same challenges as his or her
ancestors who settled the region, but there is no doubt the Appalachians still brings a set of challenges.
However, no matter the challenges there is one thing those who live in Appalachia share, tradition. It
is these traditions that assisted the first settlers, our ancestors, in living life and are still getting present

American Airlines Flight 1420 Accident Using The SHELL Model
Abstract
As a collaborative case study, we analyzed the American Airlines Flight 1420 accident using the
SHELL Model. The SHEL Model was developed by a Professor Elwyn Edwards in 1972 and it was
later modified to the SHELL Model by a human factors consultant named Frank Hawkins. We can see
all the human factors that were involved in the accident utilizing following aspects software,
hardware, environment, liveware and liveware. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
conducted a thorough investigation and determine that the American Airlines Flight 1420 was a
runway overrun accident caused by human factors.
The SHELL Model has proven to be an useful tool when it comes to using the human factors and
aviation safety. On this case study, we will use the details from the NTSB report from the American
Airlines Flight 1420 NTSB to study all the factors of the SHELL Model that were contributed to the
accident.
Liveware Software
Multiple factors were contributing to American Airlines fatal accident in 1999. To identify the factors
and different issues with American Airlines Flight 1420 the SHELL model will be used. One of the
major cause of this accident was a breakdown in Liveware Software. Liveware Software investigates
procedures, manuals, checklists and standard operational procedures (ICAO SHELL Model, 2016).
NTSB ruled that the main causes of the accident were the decision to land in a thunderstorm and that
the crew did not arm the spoilers (NTSB, 2001).

Divorce And Negative Affectivity
Over the past few decades, divorce has risen dramatically and has impacted many individuals,
including adolescents. Adolescence is a time of change and the addition of divorce in the family
complicates this development, especially in terms of mental health. (N. Civitci, A. Civitci N.C.
Fiyakali, 2009) Following parental divorce, adolescents tend to suffer because of the poor coping
strategies they implement, influencing increased negative affectivity. (Consoli et al., 2013) Negative
affectivity may be defined as emotional distress or a tendency to experience negative emotions. The
purpose of this paper is to examine research surrounding the effects of divorce on adolescents negative
affectivity. Inquiries illustrate a positive correlation between divorce and negative affectivity, however

Philia Pseudolus Analysis
1) Pseudolus wish is to buy, win, or steal his freedom. He is the laziest slave in Rome, but he only has
one wish, and that is to have freedom. He just wants to be able to do whatever he wants on his own
time.
2) Hero s wish is to be with Philia. Hysterium tells Hero that he should not know what happens in the
house of shame, but Hero already knows everything. Heeo wants to be Philia s lover. Philia is a virgin
but was unfortunately sold to someone else. Hero requests Pseudolus to help him get Philia in order
for Pesudolus to have a taste of freedom.
3) Although it isn t verbally stated, it is a bit obvious that Senex is not fond of his wife Domina.
Domina is a demanding wife and Senex has to follow all of her orders. She is easily jealous and is
suspicious of her husband s actions, especially since Senex likes to stand near the house of shame,
which is the house that Marcus Lycus keeps his courtesans.
4) I believe that Pseudolus can be considered the mouthpiece of the author. He is the alter ego
representing the author, because of his many lines and actions. He has a plan how he can get Philia to
be with Hero. As with the author, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How To See Real Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird courage is defined as standing up for what one believes in.
Throughout the part one of the book Atticus stands up for what he believes in even though he is
heavily criticized. Out of every character introduced so far Atticus has shown by far the most
cnjourage. Scout and Jem show courage by trying to communicate with Boo Radley even though all of
the terrible rumors. First, in this book courage is defined as standing up for one s beliefs no matter
what. On page 149 Atticus said I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea
that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. Scout and Jem slowly start to realize this as they begin to
start facing challenges like what Atticus is facing.

Barbie Doll s Influence On Society
My whole philosophy of Barbie was that through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted
to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices, Ruth says. (Inc, n.d) Ruth and
Elliot Handler are the founders of Mattel creation and in 1959 the world was given the Barbie doll.
(Inc, n.d.) The Barbie doll was introduced to a small toy fair costing $3. The Barbie doll was the first
doll to be sold that doesn t look, like a baby but more like a woman. The Barbie doll is an iconic doll
available for anyone, anywhere. After further research, the Barbie doll has influenced body image and
society that there is a right way to look to fit in consists of blonde hair, blue eyes, 5 8 or taller, long
legs, small waist, big boobs and butt. This encourages women to think what they have is not good
enough and they need to change it to look the best or the norm. The influences the Barbie doll has had
on body image are the unrealistic Barbie, and increasing eating disorder percentages. For every girl in
the world there are most likely 3 Barbie dolls in their house hold. Barbie dolls are accessible at almost
any store: grocery store, dollar general, Wal Mart, and a Toy Shop. From the start at age 3 and older
young girls are encouraged to play with dolls. They are encouraged to play with dolls are take the

BACKGROUND
The Niger Delta produces the oil wealth which accounts for the bulk of Nigeria s foreign earnings.
Paradoxically however, these vast revenues from an international industry have barely touched the
Niger Delta s own pervasive local poverty (UNDP, 2006:1). The majority of the population in the rural
areas in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria are living in extreme poverty in spite of ... Show more

Over time, the effects of oil and gas exploration on the environment have become a cause of concern
to stakeholders, government, NGOs communities and individuals. This has led the government to
formulate various policies to arrest the situation and thus promote sustainable exploration activities.
Unfortunately, most of these programs have not yielded the desired results (Guardian Newspaper
2006: 16).
The rural populace in the Niger Delta mainly practice fishing and subsistence farming, but during
floods, which lasts for over half of the year in some areas the waters are usually contaminated which
negatively affects marine life; with the waters unable to sustain vegetation due to petroleum
hydrocarbon pollutants. Drinking water is scarce and in the dry season, water is usually not available
which also increases the risk of water borne diseases. The inhabitants of the area also experience
scorching heat daily from gas flaring which is also detrimental to the health of the people (Chukwuezi,
2006:4).
The major problems of the Niger Delta Region mentioned above can be summarized as follows:
Poverty
Poverty has been described as the inability of a person to meet basic needs such as food, shelter,
clothing, healthcare and education. The poverty situation in the Niger Delta region is perhaps the
worst in Nigeria today. It also results in poor

Dachau First Concentration Camp
Some might think that Auschwitz is the first concentration camp but, it s not Auschwitz is just the
most popular one. The first concentration camp to be operated was a camp named Dachau. Dachau
opened on March 22nd, 1933 it was meant to hold mostly German Communists or just political
opponents of the Nazis. Later, Jehovah s Witnesses, Roma (or Gypsies) , homosexuals and few Jews
were transferred into Dachau. In the first year of it opening it held 4,800 prisoners. It was not a death
camp, but 40,000 200,000 people were murdered, some died of disease and starvation. Dachau has
many things to talk about, like how many/ what kind of people Dachau had and what they did to them,
how it was run, and the history of Dachau. Dachau had about 4,800 people in the first year of
operating, by 1937, it held about 13,260 people. It was meant to hold political prisoners and not to
harm them, but it turned into a death camp, where countless people died from malnutrition, overwork,
and many were executed. These people consisted of artists, intellectuals, physically/mentally
handicapped, Jews, homosexuals and many more. All these people were seen unfit to be in society by
Hitler. The people that were in Dachau were used for slave labor to make German weaponry to be

The And Its Effects On The Human Brain
Introduction
Over the last hundred years much was learned about the localisation of function in the human brain
than ever before. Gall and his followers through the trials of phrenology started investigating the
functions of the brain but soon that was replaced by the by solid neuroscientific evidence from
experiments in other animals (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). However, even with the the evolution of
human neuroimaging over the last 15 20 years, still some researchers use this technique in a way that
resembles a kind of modern day phrenology (Kringebach Rolls, 2004). Furthermore, it is of vital
importance to be aware of the fact that these interesting pictures of the brain can potentially mislead us
if not interpreting them based on the wealth of scientific evidence gained by diverse and various
methods from both humans and other animals(Kringebach Rolls, 2004).
According to Cavada Schzult s (2004) orbitofrontal cortex is one of the least explored and least
understood regions of the primate cerebral cortex, a part of the frontal lobe that lies on the top of the
orbit. Classic clinical evidence proposes that the orbitofrontal cortex is engaged in critical human
operations, such as social integration and the regulation of emotional states, drive and responsibility,
and generally traits that are vital in shaping the personality of an individual.
Kringebach and Rolls (2004) argues that the orbitofrontal cortex can be used in various ways as a
good model of how

that his country needed him to act.
The story began with Benjamin s return to his hometown. The member of the family were introduced

Benjamin and Gabriel that resulted in Benjamin questioning his own resolves. Benjamin also had the

Game Theory Term Insurance Essay examples
Game Theory in Life Insurance
The insurance industry has long been applying game theory to evaluate whether or not individuals are
insurable and determine how much premium to charge them based on their apparent needs. This
interaction between the consumer and the insurance company can be characterized as a game because
not only are they playing against one another but each party is waging on an outcome more beneficial
to them. In a traditional life insurance, there are many variables to consider when utilizing game
theory to form a strategy as there are investment components along with complex riders. Thus, in
order to keep the game relatively simple, this paper will assume the insurance being considered is term

Instead, the presumed opponent is Mother Nature. Professor Marvin D. Troutt, who wrote the classic
work on game theoretical approaches to life insurance purchasing, explains how the potential
consumer is at odds with nature: there is the option of delaying the purchase for a number of years in
the future at the risk that Nature, or chance, will intervene and allow death (or insurability) to occur
before insurance begins (Troutt, 1988).
Using Troutt s model in a normal form matrix below, the buyer has two possible strategies (Insure and
Not Insure) while Mother Nature has two possible strategies (Live and Die). The payoff of the game is
the family s wealth at the end of the year. The payoff matrix looks like this:
Mother Nature
Strategy
Live
Die
Buyer
Insure
1, 0
1, 0
Not Insure
0, 0
1, 0
Figure 1
As the above table is dealing with one s life, it is safe to assume that the game is a one shot,
simultaneous game for the fact that this game is only going to happen once and that the decision of
each player is unknown from the other. In this scenario, the prospective buyer s best strategy (1, 0) for
this game is to Insure if Mother Nature chooses Die as highlighted above. This is ideal for the buyer
because this unfortunate incident will generate a payoff to benefit the family based on the face amount
purchased. Two of the

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, By Maya Angelou
In I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou, Maya learns just how critical books are to
everyone and learns to be dependent on them over other people because while everything around her
is changing, books, writing and literature are always there to be her friend. Everything Maya was
dependent on, before she discovered books, (her mother, Momma, Bailey, her family, her educators
and her home) are so unstable throughout the whole book that she can not depend on them. However,
through all of that, books are always there and they are critical to her.
Maya Angelou writes As quickly as I had not reached my home, I sneaked away to Robin Hood s
forest and the caves of Ally Oop where all reality was unreal and even that changed everyday
(Angelou, 70) which states that, as Maya arrives to her house, she realizes it s not her home. As
upsetting as that sounds, she immediately turns to books which make her feel better so quickly. This
quote directly shows that it does not matter to Maya if, in a sense, she is homeless as long as she has
her books and that is very important. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

American Sociological Review On Domestic Violence
Introduction
Deaths, altercations, arrests, and separations. What could they possibly all have in common? That
would be domestic violence. From professional football players to celebrities that have committed
domestic violence. Domestic violence is now a trending topic that is being heard throughout the
country. Lawrence Sherman and Richard Berk conducted a domestic violence experiment in
Minneapolis. In April of 1984 this experiment came out in the American Sociological Review, Volume
49, Issue 2.
The Findings
Sherman and Berk mention that a police foundation study stated that the police had intervened at least
once in the last two years of eighty five percent of cases (p.263). The study went on to mention that
police presence was required five or more times in fifty four percent of the spousal homicides
(Sherman and Berk, p.263). However, it is important to mention that based on the data they had, it
could not be determined if less or more arrests would help decrease the homicide rates. According to
the American Sociological Review this experiment took place for eighteen months in the Minneapolis
police. It was stated that the experiment started on March 17, 1981 and lasted until August 1, 1982.
The two precincts with the highest reports of domestic violence were chosen. Arrest, having the
suspect leave, and mediation were one of the three strategies that the officers were suppose to use
when responding to a domestic violence dispute. The interventions were assigned

The capstone project entitled Inventory management in a manufacturing/remanufacturing hybrid
system with condition monitoring .The management of the serviceable inventory in the hybrid system.
Whenever a replacement occurs, the gap in the fleet needs to be filled with a new product from the
serviceable inventory. This is done primarily by remanufacturing under the assumption that
remanufacturing is much cheaper than manufacturing a new product. The manufacturing option is
considered only when the remanufacturing process is unable to satisfy the demand. The product
returns are of two types as explained in Chapter 3. All the preventive replacements in state 0 are said
to be of Type 0 (higher quality) and all the preventive replacements that occur in state 1 are said to be
of Type 1 (lower quality) according to Bhavana Padakala.
The major challenge of servicizing is the decision making regarding both product replacements and
inventory management. Since the customer is ensured a working product at all times, these decisions
become very important in a servicizing scenario and thus the research in these areas. Also, the
stochastic nature of the product quality becomes an issue in the remanufacturing scenario. Condition
monitoring plays a major role in helping reduce the number of failed products and obtaining better
quality remanufacturable returns.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Quantitative Essay
Quantitative research involves the usage of statistical techniques for analysis that, test a theory based
on the enquiry of an identified problem. It can mostly be measured in numbers and believes in
generalizing its result, i.e. extrapolating. Its main goal is to determine whether the predictive
generalizations, hold true or not. Quantitative research also aims at predicting, explaining and
understanding some phenomena, by focusing on a cause and effect relationship between the variables
involved in the research. It also follows the positivistic paradigm developed in the mid nineteenth
century, which aimed at using the natural sciences as a way of generating knowledge in the social
sciences research.
Experiments, such as true, quasi, field and lab along with correlational studies are some of the
methods that fall under quantitative research. The research in quantitative methods is generally

The precise structures and objective nature, in itself, is a cause of the various limitations of this
method of research. These weaknesses are:
1) Applicable only to quantifiable phenomena
Since all the research is objective and structured in nature, it can only be done on concepts that can be
given a quantitative value. For example: if we consider the aspect of love, we cannot find a way to
describe the amount of love in numbers or statistics. Thus, quantitative research methods are not
relevant beyond the lines of quantifiable phenomena.
2) Difficulty in studying processes or dynamic phenomena
In this research methodology, we are only limited to analysis on the basis of numeric coding and thus,
entities like processes, for example: going through a developmental phase of life, cannot be accounted
for. Such processes have relevance beyond the reach of numbers and cannot be explained by the same.
3) Problem in controlling

Bryson Tiller s A Walk In The Woods

mostly about how it is not well taken care of. So, it is safe to say that a theme or purpose for him
writing this book is to make people see that nature needs to be protected. Nature is important for
everything and everyone, more than humans are important for nature since humans are the ones
slowly destroying it. He also mentions how after hiking he felt stronger and healthier. He is almost
thanking the trail for bringing him where he is now, and it comes back to the importance of taking care
of nature because people can feel revitalized after spending some time in it. Bryson describes the
Appalachian trail over the years and how it has changed, largely in a negative way due to the poor care

Democracy And Democracy
Introduction
The relationship between economic growth and democracy has long been discussed and dissected ever
since the beginning of the French Revolution and the democratization of Europe through the 18th and
20th centuries with various revolutions occurring, mostly in revolt to the overt dominance of the upper
classes. Yet, no concrete answer has been defined on whether democracy directly increases economic
growth, or that any non democratic systems are strictly better at growing an economy. In this paper,
there will be an examination of how despite no concrete definite answers about the correlation
between democratic regimes and economic prosperity/growth exist, democracy still heavily
encourages and enables for a maximized economic growth compared to totalitarian or monarchical
regimes, through some main principles that define a democratic regime: Rule of law, legitimate
authority, quality of governance, and participation of citizens, by means of humane work conditions,
equal participation among classes, governance motivating the workforce, and less effort and money
expunged towards legitimacy. Economic growth shouldn t necessarily come before democracy as
democracy facilitates and potentially maximizes economic growth.

Nations[UN], 2005), is necessary for a prosperous marketplace for all industries which have

Analysis Of The Book Revelation Relationship Between...
Dale Ralph Davis, a theologian, professor, and pastor wrote a persuasive journal article involving the
book of Revelation entitled Relationship Between the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls in the Book of
Revelation. In this article he lays out his thesis as Each of these series of judgments [the Seals,
Trumpets, and Bowls] is primarily sequential to the preceding one(s), but that the end of each series is
parallel to the end of the other series (i.e., that the sixth and seventh seals, the seventh trumpet, and the
seventh bowl are parallel to each other). He deems this view at the end of his article as a Successive
Final view. Davis is taking two views of Revelation, the sequential view, and the parallel view, and
joining them together to creative the successive final view that he and other theologians hold to. He
makes this point in his article by walking through the evidence for each piece of his view. He begins
with the evidence for the sequential view, where he mentions five points that he believes backs up his
view. First, as the book of Revelation progresses, the intensity of the judgments does as well. Which
we can see through the judgment from the seals being ¼ of the people and the judgments of the
trumpets being ⅓ of the people. Second, the differences in the sequence of the series. For example, the
fact that both the fourth trumpet and the fourth bowl deal with the sun, but in different ways. His third
and fourth point involve the contextual clues that show

The Abolition Of A Person Through The Court System Essay
As America abolish slavery after the civil war, and thousands of African Americans were free to live
lives without the fear of slavery or undue punishment not all things turned out the way one could have
hoped for. Followed revisions of the 13 15th Amendments to the Constitution, provided the use of
exclusion through the criminalization of a person through the court system. However such rights as
described in the 13th amendment provides a claw allowing for racial divisions to persist in the
country. Such loop holes in the Constitution reduced freedoms by convictions through the legal
system. As described in the George Ritzers piece describing McDonaldization of mass plea bargains
contributing to the increase removal of a person s rights and exclusion from aid otherwise qualify for.
Such loss of freedoms through court sanctioned violations in America caused a national reflection of
American policies targeting black and brown people up to 70% more than whites. Reflecting on the
destruction of this clause in the 13th Amendment we ll evaluate why it was put in and what this loop
hole allowed the country to maintain. Through the work Michelle Alexanders The New Jim Crow in
2010 continue evaluates the relationship of vilifying or the creation of other ing in order to maintain
justification for targeting black and brown bodies, as Denis Childs describes it as, Natural born
Criminals. A level of state terror described by Childs through the US of mass incarnation in order to

Summary Of The March Of Washington Speech
In the speech that took place during the March of Washington, the speaker John Lewis argues in favor
of African American rights. Lewis purpose when delivering the speech was to make people aware of
the difficulties that African Americans are going through at that time as well as to encourage them to
fight for their rights that they deserve. Lewis maintains a serious and agitated tone that helps persuade
the audience into realizing the hardships that African Americans must go through on a daily basis
because they do not have rights and uses a series of rhetorical strategies that help strengthen his point.
John Lewis represented the people that were prohibited to have their rights, and when giving the
speech, he hopes to create a difference not only in the world but also within the people themselves.
John Lewis begins his remarks by revealing his attitude that civil rights leaders should not
congratulate themselves yet and that there is still a long road before African Americans have true
freedom. To immediately complicate the notion of being satisfied with the progress of the civil rights
movement that other speakers proclaimed, he announces, We march today for jobs and freedom, but
we have nothing to be proud of (para 1). The essence of Lewis argument is that the leaders of the civil
rights movement are marching for workplace fairness and equality for African Americans, but they
should not stop and congratulate themselves. Significantly, this opening statement reveals

  • 2. Reagan Administration s Foreign Policy in Latin America... Reagan Administration s Foreign Policy in Latin America Throughout the Cold War the United States considered the installation in Latin America of radical regimes socialist, Marxist Leninist, or leftist in any way to be utterly intolerable. Any such development would represent an advance for the communist cause and a vital loss for the West. Acceptance of this outcome could weaken the credibility of the United States as the leader of the west and as a rival for the USSR. In the eyes of Cold Warriors, the consolidation of any left wing regime in the Western Hemisphere would have dire and perilous implications for U.S. national security and for the global distribution of power. It was therefore crucial to resist this possibility by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next day Reagan signed an executive order approving the invasion. A combined force of 1,900 US Marines and army airborne troops launched an assault on Grenada. All significant military objectives were achieved in roughly 36 hours. Reagan justified the operation as an effort to protect US citizens whose safety was threatened because a gang of leftist thugs (Lake 182) had seized power to forestall further chaos, and assist in restoration of democracy. In El Salvador, a mountainous coffee growing country of 5 million citizens was ruled by an unholy alliance of large scale landowners and military officers. Acceleration of agriculture exports during the 1960 s led to an increased concentration of rural holdings by large scale landowners and in turn increased the percentage of peasants who had no land at all. A reformist challenge to the status quo came through the Christian Democratic Party, under the leadership of José Duarte. As mayor of San Salvador, Duarte built strong connections with intellectuals, professionals, and other middle class groups that if the military hadn t interfered and imposed dictatorial rule he would have surely won the election for presidency in 1972. Fake elections in 1977 led to the installation of General Carlos Humberto Romero as president, who imposed a law to defend and guarantee public order. Duarte himself was imprisoned, tortured, and exiled but never fled to the hills. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Increasing climates have been proven; with the warmest temperatures in 30 years being recorded (Houghton, 1994). Suggested cause of this increase is population change, the ever increasing demand for natural resources to sustain economic growth has resulted in exploitation of ecological systems at a rate never recorded before. These huge changes to the planet will have a knock on effect to individual and global ecosystems resulting in varying levels of positive feedback. Throughout this essay I will be discussing on various ways climate change effects the ecology of the planet. The planet shows fluctuations of temperature from millions of years ago. ... Evidence such as the rising of sea level by 17cm in the last century or the 150 250km3 loss of Greenland ice per year between 2002 2006 (NASA, 2014) proves that climate change is happening to us currently and the effects are immediate. The Carbon Cycle consists of the vital components for all animal and plant lives. It is primarily a reflection on primary and secondary production (Krebs, 2009). As seen in Figure 2, carbon levels have not been constant throughout history. Figure 3 represents the basic components of the Carbon cycle. The diagram shows that the oceans are the largest sink of carbon, and is at a constant equilibrium of atmospheric CO2 and aqueous CO2. The increase in atmospheric CO2 levels causes ocean acidification by decreasing the pH of the oceans. PH values are said to have dropped by 0.1pH units since pre industrial levels and are expected to drop a further 0.3 units by the end of the 20th century (Scott C Doney, 2007). This chemical change will have knock on affects in many marine ecosystems, which will be discussed later. However, there are positive results of the rapid increase of CO2 in relation to plants a; CO2 enrichment will no longer be a limiting factor of photosynthesis. Evidence of this is results from 3,586 separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Great Mosque Of Cordoba Vs. Hagia Sophia The Great Mosque of Cordoba vs. Hagia Sophia Religion has played a huge role in the history of the world of architecture. We can get a deeper look in the minds and attitudes of people when we look at their beliefs specifically their religion. But even though religion played a huge role in the approach to architecture, the pursuit of beauty and power can also explain to us the approaches and the outlooks of those who built or designed buildings from the ancient world. Two buildings, the Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Cordoba, can show us two separate peoples and their approach to constructing architecture that was devoted to their religions. However, while religion played a huge role, there are similarities as well between the two that show that the rulers who commissioned these buildings were interested in mimicking beauty and showing the world that their building was the most beautiful and perhaps the most elite of its time as well as proving their divinity as a ruler of a great nation. The Hagia Sophia was built in Constantinople in A.D. 532 by the emperor Justinian, who hired the renowned architects Anthemius and Isidorus to build it. It was built over an existing building built by Constantine himself. The Hagia Sophia was a very significant building of its time and one that drew attention and respect. At this time in history the Byzantines, specifically Justinian, wanted to make one message clear, that message being that the emperor of the byzantines empire, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Mulroney came to office in 1985, he dismantled the FIRA and replaced it with Investment Canada, a new system which he believed would encourage suitable foreign investment. At the time, in some industries, such as the petroleum and rubber products industries, foreign control exceeded ninety per cent. Over three fourths of this control was held by United Sates investors.6 These new and old policies brought better and higher rate of business income between Canada and the United Sates, which resulted in closer ties between the two countries. In 1987, Mulroney opened up negotiations that would eventually lead to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Canada and United States. This question has been further complicated by occurrences that stretch to the most far reaching ends of this spectrum, the spectrum ranging from strict product liability of the company to complete consumer responsibility. On the strict product liability of the company side, we have the cigarette industry where the CEOs of the largest cigarette companies denied that their product was liable for the cause of addiction. To understand the case of Alejandro Phillips v. Columbia Pictures, it is very important to look at the arguments and points that can be made by both sides. First, I will examine the legal claims of Mr. Phillips. The main argument made by Mr. Phillips was that Columbia Pictures was negligent in how they marketed and advertised the movie Boyz N the Hood. He argued that the movie s advertising falsely represented the movie by depicting only the main scenes of violence and leaving out the pacifist themes at the heart of the movie. Mr. Phillips obviously believes that this false representation is what caused the violence that lead to him being shot outside the theatre at the showing of this movie. Now the question is whether or not Mr. Phillips s arguments have any root in the legal realm. Can a company be held liable for leading consumers down the wrong path, whether intentionally or not? According to the verdict reached in Denny v. Ford Motor Company, yes, Ads and marketing materials can subject manufacturers to litigation and, ultimately, to liability (Giliberti, p. 53). In this case, the Denny family was suing Ford because of a flipping incident that occurred in the Denny s Bronco II while driving on normal roads. Ford argued that they were not liable because the Bronco II is supposed to be used primarily for off road driving. The Culture Of Consumerist Art Consumerist culture is something that humans are constantly surrounded by, from the ornate gifts and toys displayed in stores and window fronts to common household items thoroughly advertised. It has become so normal that flashy ads and fancy billboard signs are something that has become expected to see in the daily activities of life. Consumerist art is built around the familiar imagery of product advertisements and everyday consumption practices, while also being deeply rooted in current social context. Above all, consumerist art mirrors values of the dominant culture and makes comments and address issues with the world (1). This type of art is unique in that it so profoundly relies on current social activities to define itself. Additionally, this allows for extreme variety in how artists address them and what issues they chose to represent. Consumerism is generally accepted to be how individuals interact with the acquisition of products and how they connect with the ever expanding world of goods and services. In the current trend, companies believe that the amount of things someone posses determines their well being and success as an individual. Thusly, advertisement reflects this, continuing the cycle of how prevalent the consumer environment is in our culture and world (4). Kurt Hiller and Lady Gaga share the same passion of wanting LGBT+ equality. Through their different tones and dominant techniques, they both deliver remarkable speeches. Kurt Hiller wrote the Appeal to the Second International Congress for Sexual Reform on Behalf of an Oppressed Human Variety to persuade the International Congress to give the gay community the same rights as the majority. However, Kurt Hiller did not deliver the speech on behalf of his economic situation (Hiller). Magnus Hirschfeld was the one who spoke to the International Congress about the inequality. No matter who gave the speech, Hiller was the heart of the piece. Hiller s diction is complex and strong. To start off, he uses words like mockery and squandered , words that one would guess is from a Shakespearean novel. (Hiller). This paper will focus on the Iraqi part of Kurdistan, for it has come the closest to a state like notion as per Weber s definition. Iraqi Kurdistan is a region characterized by many diplomatic issues due to lack of acceptance as a state. The region was established through an autonomy agreement with Iraqi government in 1970 after decades of disputes between the Iraqi government and the Kurds in the north. Various methods and strategies have been used in the attempt to establish an independent state, but the prevailing conditions have always been against the Kurds, until the second Gulf War and the toppling of Saddam. This is attributed to the lack of many defining characteristics of a state, thus Weber s notion of a state can be used to describe the prevailing conditions within the Iraqi Kurdistan (Zunes 19). It has been a difficult struggle for Iraqi Kurdistan to achieve legitimacy as a state due to a lack of acceptance by the international community and constant disputes with Iraq and neighboring countries. • 35. American Sociological Review On Domestic Violence Introduction Deaths, altercations, arrests, and separations. What could they possibly all have in common? That would be domestic violence. From professional football players to celebrities that have committed domestic violence. Domestic violence is now a trending topic that is being heard throughout the country. Lawrence Sherman and Richard Berk conducted a domestic violence experiment in Minneapolis. In April of 1984 this experiment came out in the American Sociological Review, Volume 49, Issue 2. The Findings Sherman and Berk mention that a police foundation study stated that the police had intervened at least once in the last two years of eighty five percent of cases (p.263). The study went on to mention that police presence was required five or more times in fifty four percent of the spousal homicides (Sherman and Berk, p.263). However, it is important to mention that based on the data they had, it could not be determined if less or more arrests would help decrease the homicide rates. According to the American Sociological Review this experiment took place for eighteen months in the Minneapolis police. It was stated that the experiment started on March 17, 1981 and lasted until August 1, 1982. The two precincts with the highest reports of domestic violence were chosen. Arrest, having the suspect leave, and mediation were one of the three strategies that the officers were suppose to use when responding to a domestic violence dispute. The capstone project entitled Inventory management in a manufacturing/remanufacturing hybrid system with condition monitoring .The management of the serviceable inventory in the hybrid system. Whenever a replacement occurs, the gap in the fleet needs to be filled with a new product from the serviceable inventory. This is done primarily by remanufacturing under the assumption that remanufacturing is much cheaper than manufacturing a new product. The manufacturing option is considered only when the remanufacturing process is unable to satisfy the demand. The product returns are of two types as explained in Chapter 3. All the preventive replacements in state 0 are said to be of Type 0 (higher quality) and all the preventive replacements that occur in state 1 are said to be of Type 1 (lower quality) according to Bhavana Padakala. The major challenge of servicizing is the decision making regarding both product replacements and inventory management. Since the customer is ensured a working product at all times, these decisions become very important in a servicizing scenario and thus the research in these areas. Also, the stochastic nature of the product quality becomes an issue in the remanufacturing scenario. Condition monitoring plays a major role in helping reduce the number of failed products and obtaining better quality remanufacturable returns. • 37. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Quantitative Essay Quantitative research involves the usage of statistical techniques for analysis that, test a theory based on the enquiry of an identified problem. It can mostly be measured in numbers and believes in generalizing its result, i.e. extrapolating. Its main goal is to determine whether the predictive generalizations, hold true or not. Quantitative research also aims at predicting, explaining and understanding some phenomena, by focusing on a cause and effect relationship between the variables involved in the research. It also follows the positivistic paradigm developed in the mid nineteenth century, which aimed at using the natural sciences as a way of generating knowledge in the social sciences research. Experiments, such as true, quasi, field and lab along with correlational studies are some of the methods that fall under quantitative research. The precise structures and objective nature, in itself, is a cause of the various limitations of this method of research. These weaknesses are: 1) Applicable only to quantifiable phenomena Since all the research is objective and structured in nature, it can only be done on concepts that can be given a quantitative value. For example: if we consider the aspect of love, we cannot find a way to describe the amount of love in numbers or statistics. Thus, quantitative research methods are not relevant beyond the lines of quantifiable phenomena. 2) Difficulty in studying processes or dynamic phenomena In this research methodology, we are only limited to analysis on the basis of numeric coding and thus, entities like processes, for example: going through a developmental phase of life, cannot be accounted for. Such processes have relevance beyond the reach of numbers and cannot be explained by the same. 3) Problem in controlling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Bryson Tiller s A Walk In The Woods The author of A Walk in the Woods, Bryson Tiller, tell his story about hiking the Appalachian trail. He narrates his experience and what he went through with his friend Katz. He frequently takes a pause from narrating though, and goes into giving information and statistics about the Appalachian Trail, mostly about how it is not well taken care of. So, it is safe to say that a theme or purpose for him writing this book is to make people see that nature needs to be protected. Nature is important for everything and everyone, more than humans are important for nature since humans are the ones slowly destroying it. He also mentions how after hiking he felt stronger and healthier. He is almost thanking the trail for bringing him where he is now, and it comes back to the importance of taking care of nature because people can feel revitalized after spending some time in it. Bryson describes the Appalachian trail over the years and how it has changed, largely in a negative way due to the poor care it has received from Forest Services. He mentioned the loss and extinction of trees in the trail. He stated, In just over thirty years the American chestnut became a memory. The Appalachians lost four billion trees, a quarter ... • 39. Democracy And Democracy Introduction The relationship between economic growth and democracy has long been discussed and dissected ever since the beginning of the French Revolution and the democratization of Europe through the 18th and 20th centuries with various revolutions occurring, mostly in revolt to the overt dominance of the upper classes. Yet, no concrete answer has been defined on whether democracy directly increases economic growth, or that any non democratic systems are strictly better at growing an economy. In this paper, there will be an examination of how despite no concrete definite answers about the correlation between democratic regimes and economic prosperity/growth exist, democracy still heavily encourages and enables for a maximized economic growth compared to totalitarian or monarchical regimes, through some main principles that define a democratic regime: Rule of law, legitimate authority, quality of governance, and participation of citizens, by means of humane work conditions, equal participation among classes, governance motivating the workforce, and less effort and money expunged towards legitimacy. Economic growth shouldn t necessarily come before democracy as democracy facilitates and potentially maximizes economic growth. Participation and Opportunity One of the qualifiers for democracy, active participation of citizens in political and civic life (United Nations[UN], 2005), is necessary for a prosperous marketplace for all industries which have production in control of ... • 41. Analysis Of The Book Revelation Relationship Between... Dale Ralph Davis, a theologian, professor, and pastor wrote a persuasive journal article involving the book of Revelation entitled Relationship Between the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls in the Book of Revelation. In this article he lays out his thesis as Each of these series of judgments [the Seals, Trumpets, and Bowls] is primarily sequential to the preceding one(s), but that the end of each series is parallel to the end of the other series (i.e., that the sixth and seventh seals, the seventh trumpet, and the seventh bowl are parallel to each other). He deems this view at the end of his article as a Successive Final view. Davis is taking two views of Revelation, the sequential view, and the parallel view, and joining them together to creative the successive final view that he and other theologians hold to. He makes this point in his article by walking through the evidence for each piece of his view. He begins with the evidence for the sequential view, where he mentions five points that he believes backs up his view. First, as the book of Revelation progresses, the intensity of the judgments does as well. Which we can see through the judgment from the seals being ¼ of the people and the judgments of the trumpets being ⅓ of the people. Second, the differences in the sequence of the series. For example, the fact that both the fourth trumpet and the fourth bowl deal with the sun, but in different ways. His third and fourth point involve the contextual clues that show ... The Abolition Of A Person Through The Court System Essay As America abolish slavery after the civil war, and thousands of African Americans were free to live lives without the fear of slavery or undue punishment not all things turned out the way one could have hoped for. Followed revisions of the 13 15th Amendments to the Constitution, provided the use of exclusion through the criminalization of a person through the court system. However such rights as described in the 13th amendment provides a claw allowing for racial divisions to persist in the country. Such loop holes in the Constitution reduced freedoms by convictions through the legal system. As described in the George Ritzers piece describing McDonaldization of mass plea bargains contributing to the increase removal of a person s rights and exclusion from aid otherwise qualify for. Such loss of freedoms through court sanctioned violations in America caused a national reflection of American policies targeting black and brown people up to 70% more than whites. • 46. Summary Of The March Of Washington Speech In the speech that took place during the March of Washington, the speaker John Lewis argues in favor of African American rights. Lewis purpose when delivering the speech was to make people aware of the difficulties that African Americans are going through at that time as well as to encourage them to fight for their rights that they deserve. Lewis maintains a serious and agitated tone that helps persuade the audience into realizing the hardships that African Americans must go through on a daily basis because they do not have rights and uses a series of rhetorical strategies that help strengthen his point. John Lewis represented the people that were prohibited to have their rights, and when giving the speech, he hopes to create a difference not only in the world but also within the people themselves. John Lewis begins his remarks by revealing his attitude that civil rights leaders should not congratulate themselves yet and that there is still a long road before African Americans have true freedom. To immediately complicate the notion of being satisfied with the progress of the civil rights movement that other speakers proclaimed, he announces, We march today for jobs and freedom, but we have nothing to be proud of (para 1). The essence of Lewis argument is that the leaders of the civil rights movement are marching for workplace fairness and equality for African Americans, but they should not stop and congratulate themselves. Significantly, this opening statement reveals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
