Master Harold and his Father in Athol Fugard s Master...
Master Harold and his Father in Athol Fugard s Master Harold
Master Harold is very similar to his father. Although Harold probably doesn t want to become like his
father, or think like him, he will grow up to be just like his father. When Harold gets involved into
arguments, only then does his fathers instincts kick in. Although Harolds father is never in the play, we
can learn a lot about him just by Harold and a single phone call. Harold inherited his fathers need for
power and control, his racism, hatred, and negative attitude.
Harold likes to be in control. In Harolds family situation, his fathers dominates his mother. For
instance when Harolds father made up his mind that he wanted to leave the hospital, ... Show more

Now between Harold and his father, his father dominates him easily. Because of this Harold may want
to feel like he?s somehow in control of something, and that?s why he treats Willie and Sam the way he
does. I think Harold loves Willie and Sam, like Harolds father loves his wife, but because Harolds
father is in control, Harold wants to feel somehow in control too.
Harold is prejudice against black people. Though he may not know it, or might not want to admit it,
Harold is racist. This is also another way Harold argues with Willie and Sam. He argues that because
Sam is black he doesn?t know as much as Harold or can?t learn anything to complex. He also argues
that he is far too civilized and well mannered to be hanging out with black people who are nothing
more than servants. Then again this just might be another excuse for Harold to win an argument. For
instance, Harold deliberately told Sam what he thought was a funny racist joke just to hurt Sams
feelings. Now this is a joke that Harold shared with his father, and this is how they spend their time
together, making prejudice jokes about black people. Harold became racist because of his father. Their
racist jokes are the only thing that brings them together. They make jokes about people who are less
then them so they can feel more dominate in society. It?s the only thing Harold knows of to make his
father happy. This also means that Harold and his father don?t

Materialism In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian era, entertainment was very different, having hobbies, acquired skills equally
important to them were group activities such as séances, a quiet, peaceful environment an excellent
condition for mediums to thrive also develop physical phenomenon. Unlike today s hectic lifestyles
and materialism, coupled with modern day distractions such as antisocial mobile phones, people look
for different avenues to rest furthermore relax wanting out of the rat race, a world away from reality
and seeking the truth of life after death. The Victorian era environment is different from today due to
this mental mediumship is more prevalent.
To explain the different between physical and mental mediumship, we will look at two words,
ectoplasm and mind, I will also be discussing perception in addition control, I will expand on these
words.
Looking at materialisation and the physical mediums of the Victorian era dedicated to such an extent
that they could produce ectoplasm allowing materialisation of the discarnate spirit. Two things are
essential for materialisation production, physical energy and ectoplasm, therefore, it required the
directing powers of spirit intelligence and the psychic power of the medium. The ectoplasm is a
substance extracted from the medium s mouth, nose, ears and occasionally the solar plexus; linked to
the medium and spirit like an umbilical cord of a mother and baby in the womb, to some degree the
sitters contribute by spirit using their energy, at

Then, explain the objection to his argument that you think is strongest one raised in the article or
another and explain whether you think the objection shows Singer s argument isn t cogent, or whether
you think his argument is still cogent. Give the strongest argument you can for your position. In Peter
Singer s Argument Famine, Affluence, and Morality , Singer positions himself as an advocate for the

She proves her argument in an example that included two of the same happenstances; however one
scenario involves killing and one involves letting someone die. The examples include two men that
may inherit great personal gain if his nephew were to die. In one case, the man drowns the child in the
tub. In the other case, the man is planning to kill the boy, but when he goes into the bathroom he sees
that the boy is drowning and the man lets him die. Rachel includes this example in her argument to
show that the two men are the same despite the boys cause of death and she claims that it is the same

Mardi Gras
Celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans is on many people s bucket lists.
Mardi Gras falls on a Tuesday (Fat Tuesday). For an entire month before the Catholic holiday of Ash
Wednesday, the entire state of Louisiana is in carnival mode, and there is no mistaking when this
special time of the year begins in New Orleans. During carnival, the faint but rhythmic sound of
marching bands in the distance seems to be almost constant. Parades both big and small fill the streets
almost every day. Walk by any local bakery and you re almost guaranteed to catch a cinnamon whiff
of the traditional King Cakes that true NOLA residents only eat during carnival. Homes and other
buildings all around the city are decked out in purple, yellow, and green, and the ... Show more

My friend and I put on our homemade glittery t shirts, wigs, and light up headbands with stars. We
made a sign for me to hold up with big, bold letters that said, Throw it in the hole and it had a medium
size bucket inside the hole to collect beads and treats. we were Basically doing anything and
everything possible to stand out among the crowds. Contrary to what movies and TV shows teach you,
at Mardi Gras parades they throw out some goodies far more interesting than flimsy beads.
Each parade during Mardi Gras is put on by a type of social club known as a krewe. The krewes have
events throughout the year, but Mardi Gras is the big deal they all prepare for. Between all the beads
they throw at the parade they will also throw stuffed animals, Frisbees, cups and all sorts of random
things that are personalized with the name or symbol of that specific krewe. People will literally jump
over you and trample you with no shame to get those.
We ve all heard of the festival being a scene with women flashing for beads and I totally expected the
streets (especially Bourbon Street) to be filled with half naked drunk people. What I found instead,
were elaborately dressed festival goers of all ages celebrating, laughing and expressing themselves
through music, art, and dance. While many costumes and signs were humorous and outrageous, I

Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock
Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It
followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at
the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the
way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious
mother. Psycho explored in depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to Kübler Ross
model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise en scène and motifs, to demonstrate
this characteristic of its characters.
Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird focused motif, a recurring theme in not only
Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through
use of mise en scène. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds.
His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close up shots of the
conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a
predatory bird in a low angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other
hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This
filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was
weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is

David Wiesner s Wordless Picture Books Essay
David Wiesner s Wordless Picture Books
David Wiesner is a very artistic author. His love for art is portrayed through his style of work. When
flipping through the pages of his books, the reader is immediately drawn to the pictures. A particular
style the Wiesner is known for is wordless picture books. A wordless picture book is exactly what it
says; it is a book containing only pictures. A wordless picture book is a very personal experience for
the reader (Amazon.com). A child can benefit tremendously from this style of book. Wordless picture
books stimulate creativity and language, while at the same time introducing a child to basic principles
of books and reading.
Sector 7 and Free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is not one correct interpretation, which allows children to be as creative as they want to be.
Language can also be developed through this style of writing. Without words on the page, it is up to
the reader to decide what is being said. The reader is given the chance to verbally add his or her own
words. This tremendously helps with language and vocabulary. The reader begins to create thought
that have a beginning and an end. One is able to enhance their vocabulary by seeing things that they
may not have seen before.
Through a wordless picture book, a child is introduced to the basic principles of a book. One of these
principles is the way in which books are read. Wordless picture books ...can accustom them to the left
to right pattern of reading... (Sutherland 84). The reader reads the pictures from the left page to the
right. In Sector 7, many of the pages have multiple pictures on them. The successive pictures are
stacked on top of each other. This may help the child learn that he or she is to read from top to bottom,
along with left to right.
The sequence of pictures throughout the book is also important. This allows children to learn that
books have story lines. The reader learns that every story has a beginning or introduction. Each picture
builds upon the last and are all connected. The reader is able to relate each

How Did Calculus Contribute To The Development Of Europe
There was an unexpected explosion in the math and science world in the 17th century across Europe,
known as the Age of Reasoning. Scientists such as Galileo, Brahe and Kepler continued to increase
our knowledge on mathematics and science, especially the solar system which led to Kepler s laws of
planetary motion. Isaac Newton also discovered the laws of physics explaining Kepler s Laws, and
brought together the concepts now known as calculus. The invention of the logarithm by John Napier
contributed to the advances of science and astronomy and was one of the most significant
developments of this time. Rene Descartes development of analytical geometry and Cartesian
coordinates allowed the orbits of the planets to be plotted. Other mathematicians such as Fermat and
Pascal formulated theorems which extended our knowledge on number theory. Pascal is most famous
for his Pascal triangle even though similar figures had been done by the Chinese and Persian
mathematicians before him. Newton and Leibniz revolutionized mathematics by developing
infinitesimal calculus. Much more credit should be given to many other mathematicians at this time,
but as said before, this was a time of severe increase in mathematics and these are only a few of the
most important discoveries. (15) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Travel Ban
The travel ban is an executive order which was put into place by President Donald Trump s
administration on January 27th, 2017. The order was put into place for our national security to protect
the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States. This measure banned travel into the U.S.
for 90 days from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. This obviously sparked an
outcry from social media, which caused a divide among Americans. With a show of hands, how many
of you think that the travel ban is actually a ban on Muslim refugees and that it is racist. Recent polls
show that 57% of Americans favor the temporary ban while 33% are opposed to it, and 10% are still
undecided. Racism, fascism, and Islamophobia; these words have all taunted supporters of President
Trump and the travel ban. The one thing people don t realize is that the travel ban isn t banning
Muslims from America. Who in the room can name the top 5 countries with the most Muslims. They
are Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria. Not one of these countries are listed in the
ban. This ban is only for only ninety days, and is aimed at countries who have sent a large contingency
of terrorists to the U.S. The countries selected have active terrorist training camps, and Trump is not
the individual who selected the countries on the list. These countries are unstable, with no reliable
vetting procedures. We shouldn t admit people until they can meet our security screening standards.

having a healthy life for your guinea pig. The first main way of feeding your guinea pig is fresh
vegetables, fresh vegetables should make up most of your pets diet, but be careful about leafy

Persuasive Essay On Ice Fishing
Most people don t realize the amount of choices that are avaiable to them when it comes to ice fishing
equipment. There are choices of clothes depending on the weather, choices of rods or tip ups and even
choices of bait, string, shelters and everything else that you could think of. The first choice of ice
fishing equipment is the clothes that you are going to want to wear. Because ice fishing is always done
in frozen temperatures you are going to want to dress in layers. The first layer is going to be
something close to the skin and preferably made of cotton. There are many companies like Under
Armour that make a specific product just for this reason. Your second layer is going to be a sweater to
trap the heat next to your body. This should be thick and wooly as possible to ensure maximum heat
entrapment. Your last layer, should be a layer of a heavier material that will block the wind. This
should me made of a durable canvas or something like it. If you have a long walk to your ice angling
spot, then the less gear that you bring with you, the more enjoyable your trip will. I suggest that you
bring the bare minimum and definitely not a gas powered ice auger, those things are way to heavy. If
you do want to bring lots of heavy equipment on your journey then I would suggest investing in an ice
fishing sled. The ice fishing sled is exactly what it sounds like. Just a plastic or wooden sled that you
can pull yourself or behind a snowmobile. You could also use it around your yard or even in the
summer to drag your hunting kills back home. As far as rods go, you have the choice of getting an
actual rod with a reel on it that you are going to have to tend to and watch while fishing, or you could
get yourself something called a tip up. This nifty little device is just a lever mechanism that tips up
when ever you get a bite. There are excellent because you can have multiple lines in the water and still
have your hands free for a hot coffee, or cold beer. Food and water are actually another form of ice
fishing kit that you are going to want to bring with you depending on the length of your trip. This can
be whatever you want it to be, just make sure that you bring a camping stove or something like it if
you are

Application Of New Learnings
Phase 3: Application of New Learnings. In Six Ways to Build Trust in Negotiations, Molhotra
preaches the significance of one s reputation. When I had first negotiated with Sam during the Toronto
Condo Activity , my friend Arfeen had told him about how I m a nice person to negotiate with. I did
not think much of that comment then, but when I found out that I would be negotiating with Sam for
the second time during the Summer Interns Activity , I knew that I could use my reputation, and thus,
personal credibility to benefit. In The Necessary Art of Persuasion, Conger claims that one should
always frame their position to find common ground. Providing evidence in the form of data and past
experiences, even the use of personal credibility can be highly beneficial when it comes to persuading
the other party. Having done my readings before the class, I was fortunate enough to be prepared in
advance of my negotiation with Sam. As we had already developed a casual friendship, and I found it
very easy to talk to him. It is important to note that he was unaware of the turning point ; all he knew
was that I was an easy person to negotiate with. My credibility came from our previous interaction
where I acknowledged his interests and was willing to cooperate. Before the negotiation even started,
we both agreed to do the negotiation activity quickly. This helped me articulate my points of interests
in an articulate and concise manner. I told him that I did not want to incur the late

Biography of Jorge Chavez
Jorge Chavez is considered in Peru, the country where I was born, a hero for being the first man who
attempted to fly across the Alps. Although he didn t manage to meet his objective because his Blériot
XI crashed upon landing, the bravery and courage he exhibited while he was alive were determinants
to his career success. Therefore, in the present paper, I intend to highlight Chavez aeronautical
achievements and, likewise, explain how he became fascinated in aviation.
Jorge Chavez, a Peruvian Born in Paris
Jorge Chavez Dartnell was born on June 13, 1887 in Paris, France. His parents, Don Manuel Chavez
and Maria Rosa Moreyra Dartnell y Guisse, were forced to migrate to Europe due to the war fought in

aviator, but before he had the opportunity to invite him to join his team, Chavez requested to become a

multiple competitions as an observer. Later, when Paulhan entered into partnership with Henri
Farman, a French aviator and aircraft designer, Chavez also took part in the association. As a result,
the Peruvian airman was admitted in the prestigious Farman Flight School as a student pilot.
Nevertheless, he first had to sign a contract in which he agreed to purchase an airplane built by the

for nearly two hours, flying until he finally ran out of fuel.

Racism towards Native Aboriginal People of Australia
The Aboriginal people have been known to walk the Australian terrain for over 60,000 years with one
of the longest surviving cultures in history. They have diverse practices, beliefs and knowledge based
on thousands of generations of managing and protecting their lands (country). Aboriginal society
begins with the land, it is connected and woven with the land, their identity is of the land, their culture
is of the land. If they are removed from the land, then they are literally removed from themselves
(Dodson, 1988.) This essay will discuss the fundamentals of the past and present which correlate to
Aboriginal health and wellbeing by exploring the ideology that healthy country means healthy people .
Past research and commentary, including secondary evidence from case studies acknowledges a
significant connection which exists between the land, Aboriginal spirituality and social emotional
wellbeing. Racism was found to be a key determinant of injustice experienced by the Aborigines
during British control which labelled them uncivilised savages , inferior and living on an empty land
(terra nullius). This assertion supports the European association of Blacks to a lower social order and
burdened to heavy labour such as farming the land, it also supports the British justification of their
dominance and control over the Australian land and its resources (insert reference re racism and brit
control). It is also reasoned that the impact of racism, invasion and dislocation of

Analysis Of The Eyes Of Regan And Singer
The book Ishmael is about how a telepathic gorilla teaches cynical writer how to prevent the world
from destruction. Daniel Quinn chooses to use a telepathic gorilla to demonstrate the link between
nature and human kind. The need for this link is due to the separation of humans and nature caused by
human kind. The main idea of Ismael s philosophy is humans have taken our lives out the natural
order and laws. Humans have been destroying themselves for years, and the only way to survive is to
be connected one with nature. Individualism, in the eyes of Regan and Singer, is with each individual
being be treated with equality. Ishmael believes that each being should be apart of a community.

The animal rights movement and the progression, is because of individualists, and the work they have
done is worthy in it s own right. Singer and Regan will be used to demonstrate the ideals of
Environmental Individualism.
Regan introduces his stance in The Case for Animal Rights on how we view non humans as less than
the intrinsic value. Regan s mentality is about how we have this sense of value for each other, and how
we should translate that respect and value to others, like animals. We treat immoral humans
(criminals) with basic human respect (food, shelter, and hygiene). While, there are some people that
do not take care of animals with the same respect as we treat humans. Animals are a part of the world
that we live in, but we have grown used to seeing animals as lower than us. Regan s viewpoint shows
how we should see all beings as equals with inherent value. Regan sees this as part of the Respect
Principle, a principle where we treat individuals who have inherent value in ways that respect their
inherent value (322). His main argument is that everything has a subject of life criterion. Subject of
life criterion is the philosophy that everything is alive with inherent value.
Due to every individual, human and non human, being alive with inherent value, Regan has a stance
against hunting for sport, and uses his idea of the rights view to battle against it. The rights view is the

Difference Between Round And Square Donuts
Comparing the volumes of a round and square donut.
Which of these two donuts better fits in a dozen box?
Christina Tannous
Supervisor: Mr. Omar Rachmani
January 25, 2015
Everybody loves to have a donut every once in a while. It s a tasty desert that nobody can deny;
children all the way to adults love it. I am personally a huge donut lover! When I usually walk through
the mall I find different coffee shops selling square donuts, and not only round ones. This is what
sparked the idea in my head that there is a chance that the square donut can be economical where it is
a win win chance for both producers and consumers. I do want to prove that producing and purchasing
a different form of donuts is more economically beneficial for ... Show more content on

While if the producers were to depend on producing round donuts, the donut box would not be
completely filled at the corners, leaving empty spaces at the corner and between two consecutive
donuts. The percentage increase in the amount of donut found per donut suggests as well that it is
better for the producers to make square donuts, which in this case benefits the consumer as well. One
thing that must be taken into consideration when finding the volume of a square donut is that the
corners of this donut are not perfectly edged, which means that even though it fits into a rectangular
box better than a round donut, there are still very minimal empty spaces that are not covered.
Overall, my aim in this experiment is to prove how it will be efficient to produce a square donut and
depend on it, because it will be a new trend that everyone wants to try, there will be more dough per
donut, price change wouldn t be higher than that of a round donut since the diameter of the circle and
the length of the side of the square donut are the

Prosocial Behavior And Human Social Life
Tandis Moghadam 1 May 2015 Prosocial Behavior in Great Apes Prosocial behaviors are a huge
aspect to human social life; it involves helping, encouraging, and/or sharing information. Sympathy
and empathy are the main characteristics for prosocial behaviors. Sympathy portrays feelings of pity
and compassion for someone else s ill fortune, while empathy means having the ability to understand
and share the feelings of another. Sympathy and empathy are known to be crucial skills needed to
keep up with the complicated social life of humans. People who are sympathetic or empathic are
commonly more prone to act in prosocial ways and commonly less prone to convey antisocial
behaviors (i.e aggression). People have argued that humans are the only species that show selfless
behaviors, while others have proposed that it is impossible for selfless behaviors to only be in humans.
In article by Katja Liebal, Amrisha Vaish, Daniel Haun, and Michael Tomasello called, Does
Sympathy Motivate Prosocial Behaviour in Great Apes? , these researchers studied whether the
prosocial behavior of four species of great apes (orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees and bonobos) is
provoked by sympathy for others. The researchers wanted to find out whether or not the great apes
show more prosocial behavior towards a harmed species than towards a non harmed species. A higher
prosocial behavior towards a harmed species would mean that sympathy leads prosocial behavior in
apes the same way it does in humans. They

What Is Important Tecnology or Moral Values
Information Technology and Moral Values Information technology is now ubiquitous in the lives of
people across the globe. These technologies take many forms such as personal computers, smart
phones, the internet, web and mobile phone applications, digital assistants, and cloud computing. In
fact the list is growing constantly and new forms of these technologies are working their way into
every aspect of daily life. In some cases, such as can be seen in massive multiplayer online games (see
section 2.1.1 below), these technologies are even opening up new ways of interacting with each other.
Information technology at its basic level is technology that records, communicates, synthesizes or

As you go through this thought experiment you begin to see the complex trail of data that you
generate each and every day and how that same data might be collected and stored though the use of
information technologies. Here we can begin to see how information technology can impact moral
values. As this data gathering becomes more automated and ever present, we must ask who is in
control of this data, what is to be done with it, and who will insure its accuracy. For instance, which
bits of information should be made public, which held private, and which should be allowed to
become the property of third parties like corporations? Questions of the production, access and control
of information will be at the heart of moral challenges surrounding the use of information technology.
One might argue that this situation is no different from the moral issues revolving around the
production, access and control of any basic necessity of life. But there is one major difference, if one
party controls the access of some natural resource, then that by necessity excludes others from using
it. This is not necessarily so with digital information, it is non exclusory, meaning we can all at least
theoretically possess the same digital information because copying it from one digital source to
another does not require eliminating the previous copy. Since there is no physical obstacle to the

The Environmental Hazards Of Oily Sludge
AUTONUMLGL INTRODUCTION
The nature of threats to the environment posed by oily wastewater containing hydrocarbons, has led to
it being recognized as hazardous waste. Literature has shown that hydrocarbons contribute to the
greenhouse effect and global warming, deplete the ozone, increase occurrences of cancer and
respiratory disorders, and reduce the photosynthetic ability of plants. In addition, such hazardous
waste is primarily generated at growing rates, by various industries which utilize petroleum products
as energy sources and raw materials. The effective remediation of oily sludge has become a worldwide

It is worthwhile to examine the various definitions of oily sludge to recognize the multi layered issue
its clean up entails. It is also noteworthy that many definitions of systems engineering describe what it
does and not what it is. This is particularly prevalent in the earlier standards.
The definition that depicts what oily sludge is comprised is as follows: Oily sludge is one of the most
significant solid wastes generated in the petroleum industry. It is a complex emulsion of various
petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), water, heavy metals, and solid particles.

really knew that they could house thousands of criminals at one time and that those criminals were the

After reading housing for the worst of the worst inmates... I was able to find out that the criminals

Physical Beauty Vs Inner Beauty
Beauty can be defined in multiple diverse ways. To each person beauty is perceived in their own way.
Beauty can be broken down into two categories: physical beauty and inner beauty. Physical beauty is
the appearance of an individual. Society today has placed physical beauty on a very high pedestal.
Now teenagers focus so much of their lives trying to be physically beautiful to amount to what the
world or society says they should be, instead of focusing on their inner beauty. Inner beauty is the
attitude or personality of an individual. Inner beauty has been pushed to the curb so that one may
reach their full potential of physical beauty. To some individuals, physical beauty may be more
important, but to others inner beauty becomes the standard of being beautiful. Although physical
beauty and inner beauty may seem similar they are in fact quite different in ways such as the
definition, qualities, and effects on society. The definition of beauty varies from person to person.
Dictionary.com defines beauty as, the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or
deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound,
etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual
qualities are manifest). This definition may also help an individual understand that there are two types
of beauty, physical beauty and inner beauty. Some individuals may not realize that there

Comparing Congeniality And My Fair Lady
As a wise woman often says, There s nothing new under the sun when it comes to literature. This
means that nearly all works written or produced currently have been procured from previously written
stories, though not always intentional. This process is known as intertextualization, which is clearly
noted in the 2000 film Miss Congeniality, derived from the 1964 film My Fair Lady. Intertextuality
has been woven into this movie through similar archetypes, role reversals, and dénouments. In My
Fair Lady, Professor Higgins displays the archetype of a teacher, just as Victor Melling from Miss
Congeniality does. Both of these characters are teaching the leading, female actresses how to become
more proper and lady like. Henry Higgins transforms Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl, into a
duchess by teaching her proper english. In the same way, Victor converts Gracie Hart, a masculine

Swing Music Essay example
Swing Music
During the nineteen thirties and nineteen forties a certain style of music became very popular. This
style of music became known as swing . It was performed using rhythmic riffs and is referred to a
style of dance and band arrangements. America maintained swing s popularity throughout the World
War Two years when both large and small ensembles toured Army and Navy camps both at home and
abroad. At home, swing was heard at bond sale rallies and community concerts. The new sub culture
of women workers also adapted boogie woogie and other novelty and jive styles. There are two forms
of swing; performed swing and recorded swing. Recorded swing was stricter, and performed swing

A popular form is the Smooth Lindy, which is basically a Lindy with no kicking patterns or

East Coast swing, otherwise known as the Jitterbug is another type of swing dancing. It is more social
and less acrobatic. Although this style of swing is what most people learn at first, it is not really a
swing era dance. (This dance is learned as, One and two, three and four, rock step. ) Most swing dance
had an eight count rhythm. (Counting to eight, with each beat equal to one step.) With the evolution of
the 12 bar blues, however, the jitterbug lost two counts and became the dance of early rock and roll. It
is taught as a swing dance, however, because it is much easier to grasp than the Lindy. This dance was
not created until the 1950 s. The version that is taught most often is done to fast big band music and is
also called East Coast Swing.
Another type of swing is West Coast Swing. It is a six count or eight count dance where the man
moves the woman in a straight line, the slot , while he steps out of the way, instead of the circular
patterns of the Lindy Hop. The dance is also danced to much slower music than East Coast which
allows for more time for intricate steps and synchronized movements between partners.

Argumentative Essay On Evolution
Madison Wenig
Mr. Kellerman
Honors Biology 2

Evolution
There always has been a controversy whether evolution really did happen or not. Many evolutionists,
philosophers and biologists have presented sufficient evidence that evolution is true. Yet there is still
debate about this contentious topic. With the facts and findings of fossil records of earlier species,
ideas of initial theorists, and our own genetics and DNA, evolution can be hard to prove wrong.
Evolution is not just a change over time, but that all life on Earth shares a common ancestor. This
process is occurring in our lives right now. What exactly is evolution? Evolution is the process
through which the characteristics of organisms change over successive generations, by means of
genetic variation . (What is evolution) Simply, descent with modification. Charles Darwin was the first
person with the acceptable explanation of evolution. Although his theory gave forth too many
tremendous advances, he did not build this theory on his own. He learned and built off earlier
theorists, like Jean Baptiste Lamarck, who indorsed linear evolution . (evolution) As well as Aristotle,
a Greek philosopher, with his concept of Scala Nature. These early theorists served as a foundation for
Charles Darwin s theory. Although Darwin s theory was important, a greater attribution to evolution
was founded. That is the uncovering of fossils. Fossils are significant to the evolution because they

Waking Up And Taking Charge
In Waking Up and Taking Charge, Anya Kamenetz is persuading us to ignite the flame and fight for
our rights as students. Young adults need to stop focusing on global issues and start focusing on
problems regarding their personal and financial lives. It is important that students put a freeze on
global issues and better things for themselves while they are in school, because it will help them in the
long run. Waking Up and Taking Charge seems to be about pushing young adults to be selfish toward
their own problems, but it is really about students taking a stand and fighting for their political views
by focusing on problems that have yet to be addressed. Adultescents should fight for better lower
tuition costs and better financial aid to help them financially, and should work together to bring these
situations to light. Younger adults are legally able to vote in political elections and be active in the
government, so why aren t their voices heard more often? Because they focus on problems that don t

Definitions Of Leadership And Management
Definitions of leadership and management.
Although the interviews conducted were unstructured all three practitioners were asked for their
definition of leadership and management. It was thought that questions about leadership and
management could be interpreted in so many ways, whereas having their interpretation helped to
better understand where they were coming from. It was important to understand each individual

In the interviews conducted management was believed to generate responsibilities such as planning,

to be more involved with what the children do, helping others perform their role, inspiring others. A

Texas Indians During The Great Plains And Mountain Basin...
Texas Indians In the Great Plains and Mountain Basin Regions
Work Edited by: Kobe Jones and Keaton Kirk.
The main Indian tribes that lived in the Great Plains and Mountain Basin region were the Tigua,
Comanche, Apache, Kiowa, and Jumano. The Comanche were a fierce tribe who rivaled the Apaches
and eventually ended up pushing them out of Texas. They originally lived in mountains until they
acquired horses in the 1600s and became powerful and mobile, thus deciding to move southwest to
find more mustangs, buffalo, and a warmer climate. Together with their exceptional fighting skills and
horse riding skills, the Comanche quickly controlled most of the Plains region and became very
wealthy. They were able to follow the buffalo as nomads and use this animal as a resource for almost
everything. They also could trade their buffalo goods with other tribes and make a profit. The
Comanche would skin the animal and use it for moccasins, leggings, breechcloths, teepee coverings,
and skirts for men and women. The tribe was organized with a war chief and peace chief. The tribe
believed in good and bad spirits including the Great Spirit which they would smoke a pipe to. Men in
the tribe were warriors and would steal horses from other tribes and people. If they were killed the
tribe would kill their horse also and put them in a trench. The Kiowa were another greatly feared and
hostile tribe that strongly resisted European influence in their lives. They originally resided in

to provide feedback to the employee to show where improvements are needed and why they are

It is not what I want or what I find as an attractive trait or behavior. Items such as character, looks,
race etc. should never be used, why well because they really have nothing to do with an individual s
job behavior. As a manager myself I find it difficult to truly appraise individuals, for many reasons,
one is that not everyone has the same job in my organization, two there are over 80 people that work
in there so remember and playing back all work performance is often a difficult job for the 3
supervisors I have. Moving back on track; performance appraisals should encompass relevant
performance standards and performance criteria in order to measure performance, which as stated in
both the lecture notes and text is an elusive term. c. Specifically discuss the reasons why the authors of
your text are generalizing that Performance Appraisal (PA) in public organizations is highly
ineffective and problematic. The authors in the text generalize PA s in public service are highly
ineffective and problematic for serval reasons such as the fact that about 20% of employees indicate
that the appraisal system motivated them to do a better job. Or that performance management is not
effective in providing specific expectations, useful feedback, engaging and energizing the work force,
or raising levels of employee satisfaction. The authors also list a plethora of paradoxes concerning
PAs. For example one is that employees are less certain or even

Causes Of Munchausen Syndrome
When somebody s loved one or their own children are sick or have passed away, its normal for them
and others to feel distraught. Somebody with Munchausen Syndrome might not feel so distraught at
first, it is more of a satisfying feeling for them. An individual with this disorder intentionally gets their
children sick or exaggerates the symptoms, possibly even to the point it results in murder. They enjoy
and feed off the attention and sympathy they receive from family and friends even hospital personnel.
With this disorder comes several different symptoms, causes and effects, and treatments. Before being
completely uncovered, professionals believed this syndrome was very rare. Now current day, however
they believe that nearly 600 new cases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tinning children fell victims to their Munchausen mother, Marybeth. Back in 1972, Jennifer, Mr.
and Mrs. Tinning s eight year old daughter had passed away from acute meningitis. As a very detached
and cold husband already, Mr. Tinning showed no support or sympathy towards his grieving wife after
their daughter s passing. It did however bring a wave of sympathy from family and friends. Just shy of
3 weeks following Jennifer s death, Marybeth had to rush her two year old son to the hospital where
he was pronounced dead due to a viral infection accompanied by a seizure disorder. Unfortunately no
autopsy was performed. The once lonely and ignored practical nurse just had to experience not losing
just one, but two children within only 3 weeks time. Marybeth could not help but notice how the
deaths of her children brought a tremendous amount of attention and sympathy. Now remember it is
only 1972, it wasn t until a couple years later in 1977 that medical field and law enforcement became
more aware of this upcoming condition that could lead to homicidal motives. Six weeks after the
second child, Joseph s death, calamity hit the Tinning family when four year old Barbra had passed.
Although suspicious were growing after now a third child from the Tinning family had died, all foul
play was ruled out due to cause of death being cardiac arrest. Roughly a year and a half later after
Barbra s unexpected death and two prior, their two week old son died in the hospital while being
treated for a mysterious illness brought in by Mrs. Tinning. Unable to identify the cause of death, the
pathologist recorded it as a SIDS case. Nathan Tinning, their five month old died in September of

More repairs to the lighthouse were in the works when the American Revolution intervened. In July
1775, Boston Harbor and the lighthouse were under the control of the British. On July 20, American
troops under Major Joseph Vose landed at the lighthouse and took lamps, oil, and some gunpowder,
and burned the wooden parts of the tower. After leaving the island they had to outrun an armed British
schooner, and two Americans were wounded. An eyewitness described the flames of the lighthouse
ascending up to Heaven, like grateful incense, and the ships wasting their powder.
As the British worked to repair the tower, 300 American soldiers under Major Benjamin Tupper
landed at the island on July 31. They easily defeated the British guard and again burned the
lighthouse. As they tried to leave, they found their boats stranded because the tide had gone out. This
gave British vessels time to reach the scene. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American troops at Nantasket in Hull helped by firing a cannon at the British boats, landing a direct
hit on one. This turned the tide of battle and the Americans escaped with only one soldier having been
killed. General George Washington praised the men: The General thanks Major Tupper and the
Officers and Soldiers under his Command, for their gallant and soldierlike behaviour in possessing
themselves of the enemy s post at the Light House, and for the Number of Prisoners they took there,

The three main successors forged dynasties that lasted a couple of centuries until they all were
defeated or came under the sway of Rome.
Rome fought three wars with Carthage called the Punic wars, these wars were fought between
264B.C. and 146B.C. (First 264 241B.C., Second 218 202B.C., Third 149 146B.C.) The first two
Punic wars were essentially defensive wars for Rome especially the second where Hannibal in
command of the Carthaginian forces crossed the Alps and attacked mainland Italy, the Romans were
able to repel Hannibal and his army, Hannibal was eventually defeated by the famous General Publius
Cornelius Scipio and pushed back to North Africa and Carthage. The second war reduced Carthage to
nothing but a city state, but Rome still feared that Carthage could rise once again to its former military
might and with the third Punic war; Rome razed Carthage to the ground, slaughtering or enslaving its
inhabitants. At the sight of the city utterly perishing amidst the flames Scipio burst into tears, and
stood long reflecting on the inevitable change which awaits cities, nations, and dynasties.
Rome and the Hellenistic kingdoms fought four wars called the Macedonian wars between 215B.C.

Charles Bukowski Essay
Henry Charles Bukowski writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambience of
Los Angeles. He left home after his father read some of his stories and went berserk, destroying his
output and throwing his possessions out onto the lawn, a lawn that the young Bukowski had to mow
weekly and would be beaten for if the grass wasn t perfectly cut. Bukowski was born in 1920 in
Andernach, Germany. He died on March 9, 1994 in San Pedro, California. He was a German
American poet, novelist, and story writer. Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short
stories and six novels, eventually publishing over sixty books. He had a bad history with hospitals; he
had to undergo three treatments for removal of separate skin cancers, ... Show more content on

This allows the reader to slow down and not to speed up like people usually do in poems that rhyme.
When you read his poem it almost makes you want to slow down and read it in a calm voice, to make
you think about each and every word he wrote. The metaphors he uses are significant because they
convey a certain theme and make it clear as to what he is talking about. The metaphor makes the mood
more understandable, because people debate that you should give second chances but he is saying he
rather leave the past untouched. Hence the purpose for this line, I refuse to let any of my old movies
play over and over again for years. The metaphor makes his tone sound assertive and sure of all the
decisions he has made. For example this line let s people know that he is not like others because of the
metaphor and his choice for punctuation marks I know some people who can watch the same movie
more than once. Not me. I selected this poet out of the thousands even millions of poets there are
because I felt like he was the most realist. Bukowski wrote on about what was going on in the world
which he lived in like no other. He wrote about portrayal of life in general and Los Angeles in
particular, his usually self referential, often angry poetry and prose typically depicts alcoholics, drug
addicts, criminals, prostitutes, and other outcasts. I love the fact that most of the poems I read, he didn
t try to rhyme, and he just tried to tell things as they were.

The Black Panther Party By Jessica C. Harris
This article takes an inside and out investigation of The Black Panther Party as a particular illustration
for progressive patriotism and breaks down altogether the positive commitments they made and in
addition the negative parts of the gathering. Jessica C. Harris, who was fixated on the historical
backdrop of the organization, did research and composed the paper. This exhert (pages from 409 421)
is from The Journal of Negro History, Volume 86, No. 3. (Summer, 2001). The entire paper epitomizes
the writer s wide extension, impeccable written work abilities and clear rationale in breaking down a
questionable point.
Black Nationalism is a belief system that goes for freeing African americans from mistreatment and
setting up self determination for the black comunity. Harris touches on Classical Black Nationalism
and Contemporary Black Nationalism. Traditional Black Nationalism is essentially as slave rebellions.
Be that as it may, Contemporary Black Nationalism can be partitioned into four sections: instructive,
religious, social and also progressive patriotism. The Black Panther Party, a standout amongst the
most well known progressive patriot associations, held the conviction that the administration around
then should have been be changed to meet the requests for the black community. Under the
comprehension of a communist point of view , two youthful black activists, Bobby Seale and Huey P.
Newton established the Black Panther Party in a general sense for

HR Issues Handled By Japanese Organizations Based On Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions There are
several different challenges for Human Resource Management teams in organizations throughout the
world. The HR strategies of these various organizations are very dependent on the culture of the
country in which the organization resides. Hofstede s theory of cultural dimensions is a great way to
distinguish between the traditional HR aspects of organizations in different parts of the world.
Although both the United States and Japan have very successful companies, there are differences in
the way these organizations handle HR issues. Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions takes into account
different policies and procedures regarding Human Resource ... Show more content on

Both societies have a wide range of distribution of power between the lower and higher ranking
officials within an organization. The two countries are so close in the power distance ranking that I do
not believe that the HR policies in each would be significantly different. Japan scores much higher
that the United States in the Uncertainty Avoidance category. Japanese businesses are in favor of
predicting and controlling future events in order to avoid the uncertain (Ivancevich, 2010). This is
quite different from the U.S. which scores relatively low in the category. U.S. organizations tend to
take more risks and plan activities on a day to day basis. When planning to hire employees in the U.S.,
HR would most likely look for candidates who are more aggressive and self motivated. However,
Japanese organizations might look for more of an organized and conservative person to fill the role.
Predictability is key since the Japanese prefer to plan and organize situations so that there are no
surprises. Masculinity is also very high in Japan. Masculine societies tend to have men who hold
assertive and competitive qualities (Hofstede, 2011). This includes strict roles between males and
females. Males in Japan are expected to work and support the family, while women are responsible for
taking care of the household (Bestore and Hardacre, 2004, para.56). This makes it very difficult for
females to work outside the house. This is quite the

Long Term Care Sociology
In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which
residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing
assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in Ohio
there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for residents to
receive the optimum amount of care possible. Nursing homes can not only include parts in which they
provide skilled care by Nurses and Nursing Assistants, but also assisted living for those who just need
help from time to time or assistance managing their medication. Residents still have the right to choice
when in a nursing home and they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care,
toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for anyone,
especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including retirement and
social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and receive care twenty
four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double occupancy room), the cost was
nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost across the country is $248 per day for a
private room and $222 daily for a semi private room (Costs Of Care), which for a private room can
add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at
an average of $3,300 a month for the base fee , however each additional service that they require help
from staff to complete is an additional fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that
staff completed or assisted with, including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying
treatments such as a breathing machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have
children or other family members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot
be managed at home (due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term
care facility to receive help completing tasks needed for simple

Although Harold probably doesn t want to become like his father, or think like him, he will grow up to be just like his father. When Harold gets involved into arguments, only then does his fathers instincts kick in. Although Harolds father is never in the play, we can learn a lot about him just by Harold and a single phone call. Harold is prejudice against black people. Though he may not know it, or might not want to admit it, Harold is racist. This is also another way Harold argues with Willie and Sam. He argues that because Sam is black he doesn?t know as much as Harold or can?t learn anything to complex. He also argues that he is far too civilized and well mannered to be hanging out with black people who are nothing more than servants. Then again this just might be another excuse for Harold to win an argument. For instance, Harold deliberately told Sam what he thought was a funny racist joke just to hurt Sams feelings. Now this is a joke that Harold shared with his father, and this is how they spend their time together, making prejudice jokes about black people. Harold became racist because of his father. Their racist jokes are the only thing that brings them together. They make jokes about people who are less then them so they can feel more dominate in society. Materialism In The Victorian Era In the Victorian era, entertainment was very different, having hobbies, acquired skills equally important to them were group activities such as séances, a quiet, peaceful environment an excellent condition for mediums to thrive also develop physical phenomenon. Unlike today s hectic lifestyles and materialism, coupled with modern day distractions such as antisocial mobile phones, people look for different avenues to rest furthermore relax wanting out of the rat race, a world away from reality and seeking the truth of life after death. The Victorian era environment is different from today due to this mental mediumship is more prevalent. To explain the different between physical and mental mediumship, we will look at two words, ectoplasm and mind, I will also be discussing perception in addition control, I will expand on these words. Looking at materialisation and the physical mediums of the Victorian era dedicated to such an extent that they could produce ectoplasm allowing materialisation of the discarnate spirit. Two things are essential for materialisation production, physical energy and ectoplasm, therefore, it required the directing powers of spirit intelligence and the psychic power of the medium. • 7. Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious mother. Psycho explored in depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to Kübler Ross model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise en scène and motifs, to demonstrate this characteristic of its characters. Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird focused motif, a recurring theme in not only Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through use of mise en scène. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds. His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close up shots of the conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a predatory bird in a low angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is ... Scientists such as Galileo, Brahe and Kepler continued to increase our knowledge on mathematics and science, especially the solar system which led to Kepler s laws of planetary motion. Isaac Newton also discovered the laws of physics explaining Kepler s Laws, and brought together the concepts now known as calculus. The invention of the logarithm by John Napier contributed to the advances of science and astronomy and was one of the most significant developments of this time. Rene Descartes development of analytical geometry and Cartesian coordinates allowed the orbits of the planets to be plotted. Other mathematicians such as Fermat and Pascal formulated theorems which extended our knowledge on number theory. Pascal is most famous for his Pascal triangle even though similar figures had been done by the Chinese and Persian mathematicians before him. There are choices of clothes depending on the weather, choices of rods or tip ups and even choices of bait, string, shelters and everything else that you could think of. The first choice of ice fishing equipment is the clothes that you are going to want to wear. Because ice fishing is always done in frozen temperatures you are going to want to dress in layers. The first layer is going to be something close to the skin and preferably made of cotton. There are many companies like Under Armour that make a specific product just for this reason. Your second layer is going to be a sweater to trap the heat next to your body. This should be thick and wooly as possible to ensure maximum heat entrapment. If you have a long walk to your ice angling spot, then the less gear that you bring with you, the more enjoyable your trip will. I suggest that you bring the bare minimum and definitely not a gas powered ice auger, those things are way to heavy. If you do want to bring lots of heavy equipment on your journey then I would suggest investing in an ice fishing sled. The ice fishing sled is exactly what it sounds like. Just a plastic or wooden sled that you can pull yourself or behind a snowmobile. You could also use it around your yard or even in the summer to drag your hunting kills back home. As far as rods go, you have the choice of getting an actual rod with a reel on it that you are going to have to tend to and watch while fishing, or you could get yourself something called a tip up. This nifty little device is just a lever mechanism that tips up when ever you get a bite. Regan s mentality is about how we have this sense of value for each other, and how we should translate that respect and value to others, like animals. Prosocial Behavior And Human Social Life Tandis Moghadam 1 May 2015 Prosocial Behavior in Great Apes Prosocial behaviors are a huge aspect to human social life; it involves helping, encouraging, and/or sharing information. Sympathy and empathy are the main characteristics for prosocial behaviors. Sympathy portrays feelings of pity and compassion for someone else s ill fortune, while empathy means having the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Sympathy and empathy are known to be crucial skills needed to keep up with the complicated social life of humans. People who are sympathetic or empathic are commonly more prone to act in prosocial ways and commonly less prone to convey antisocial behaviors (i.e aggression). People have argued that humans are the only species that show selfless behaviors, while others have proposed that it is impossible for selfless behaviors to only be in humans. It is also noteworthy that many definitions of systems engineering describe what it does and not what it is. This is particularly prevalent in the earlier standards. The definition that depicts what oily sludge is comprised is as follows: Oily sludge is one of the most significant solid wastes generated in the petroleum industry. It is a complex emulsion of various petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs), water, heavy metals, and solid particles. Many evolutionists, philosophers and biologists have presented sufficient evidence that evolution is true. Yet there is still debate about this contentious topic. With the facts and findings of fossil records of earlier species, ideas of initial theorists, and our own genetics and DNA, evolution can be hard to prove wrong. • 45. Charles Bukowski Essay Henry Charles Bukowski writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambience of Los Angeles. He left home after his father read some of his stories and went berserk, destroying his output and throwing his possessions out onto the lawn, a lawn that the young Bukowski had to mow weekly and would be beaten for if the grass wasn t perfectly cut. Bukowski was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany. He died on March 9, 1994 in San Pedro, California. He was a German American poet, novelist, and story writer. Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels, eventually publishing over sixty books. He had a bad history with hospitals; he had to undergo three treatments for removal of separate skin cancers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows the reader to slow down and not to speed up like people usually do in poems that rhyme. When you read his poem it almost makes you want to slow down and read it in a calm voice, to make you think about each and every word he wrote. The metaphors he uses are significant because they convey a certain theme and make it clear as to what he is talking about. The metaphor makes the mood more understandable, because people debate that you should give second chances but he is saying he rather leave the past untouched. Hence the purpose for this line, I refuse to let any of my old movies play over and over again for years. The metaphor makes his tone sound assertive and sure of all the decisions he has made. For example this line let s people know that he is not like others because of the metaphor and his choice for punctuation marks I know some people who can watch the same movie more than once. Not me. I selected this poet out of the thousands even millions of poets there are because I felt like he was the most realist. Bukowski wrote on about what was going on in the world which he lived in like no other. He wrote about portrayal of life in general and Los Angeles in particular, his usually self referential, often angry poetry and prose typically depicts alcoholics, drug addicts, criminals, prostitutes, and other outcasts. I love the fact that most of the poems I read, he didn t try to rhyme, and he just tried to tell things as they were. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Black Panther Party By Jessica C. Harris This article takes an inside and out investigation of The Black Panther Party as a particular illustration for progressive patriotism and breaks down altogether the positive commitments they made and in addition the negative parts of the gathering. Jessica C. Harris, who was fixated on the historical backdrop of the organization, did research and composed the paper. This exhert (pages from 409 421) is from The Journal of Negro History, Volume 86, No. 3. (Summer, 2001). The entire paper epitomizes the writer s wide extension, impeccable written work abilities and clear rationale in breaking down a questionable point. Black Nationalism is a belief system that goes for freeing African americans from mistreatment and setting up self determination for the black comunity. Harris touches on Classical Black Nationalism and Contemporary Black Nationalism. Traditional Black Nationalism is essentially as slave rebellions. Be that as it may, Contemporary Black Nationalism can be partitioned into four sections: instructive, religious, social and also progressive patriotism. The Black Panther Party, a standout amongst the most well known progressive patriot associations, held the conviction that the administration around then should have been be changed to meet the requests for the black community. Under the comprehension of a communist point of view , two youthful black activists, Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton established the Black Panther Party in a general sense for ... • 47. Hr Issues Handled by Japanese Organizations Based on... HR Issues Handled By Japanese Organizations Based On Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions There are several different challenges for Human Resource Management teams in organizations throughout the world. The HR strategies of these various organizations are very dependent on the culture of the country in which the organization resides. Hofstede s theory of cultural dimensions is a great way to distinguish between the traditional HR aspects of organizations in different parts of the world. Although both the United States and Japan have very successful companies, there are differences in the way these organizations handle HR issues. Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions takes into account different policies and procedures regarding Human Resource ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both societies have a wide range of distribution of power between the lower and higher ranking officials within an organization. The two countries are so close in the power distance ranking that I do not believe that the HR policies in each would be significantly different. Japan scores much higher that the United States in the Uncertainty Avoidance category. Japanese businesses are in favor of predicting and controlling future events in order to avoid the uncertain (Ivancevich, 2010). This is quite different from the U.S. which scores relatively low in the category. U.S. organizations tend to take more risks and plan activities on a day to day basis. When planning to hire employees in the U.S., HR would most likely look for candidates who are more aggressive and self motivated. However, Japanese organizations might look for more of an organized and conservative person to fill the role. Predictability is key since the Japanese prefer to plan and organize situations so that there are no surprises. Masculinity is also very high in Japan. Masculine societies tend to have men who hold assertive and competitive qualities (Hofstede, 2011). This includes strict roles between males and females. Males in Japan are expected to work and support the family, while women are responsible for taking care of the household (Bestore and Hardacre, 2004, para.56). This makes it very difficult for females to work outside the house. This is quite the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Long Term Care Sociology In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in Ohio there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for residents to receive the optimum amount of care possible. Nursing homes can not only include parts in which they provide skilled care by Nurses and Nursing Assistants, but also assisted living for those who just need help from time to time or assistance managing their medication. Residents still have the right to choice when in a nursing home and they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care, toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for anyone, especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including retirement and social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and receive care twenty four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double occupancy room), the cost was nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost across the country is $248 per day for a private room and $222 daily for a semi private room (Costs Of Care), which for a private room can add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with, including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have children or other family members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot be managed at home (due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term care facility to receive help completing tasks needed for simple ...
