Narrative Speech About Bullying
Miss. Webb, I ve been talking a lot with Brayden here lately about these accidents he has been having
at school. I know at home when his attention is focused on something he likes watching or likes doing
he will sometimes have accidents. I felt like it was because he didn t want to miss out on whatever was
going on at that moment and was ignoring his body. I ve had many talks with him about making sure
he always stops and goes when he needs to go! That whatever he is doing at that time will still be
there when he gets back. We did have this issue before he started school, but he had showed a lot of
improvement before school had started and we followed through with letting him start. He really
wanted to go to school and we explained that in order to come to school everyone had to follow the
same rules and that they also had to be able to use the bathroom and not accident on themselves. I
even made sure he knew he could take a bathroom break anytime he needed to. I wanted to make sure
he understood what I was saying and so I would have talks with him a little everyday before school
had started. I talked to him about the stuff he would be doing in school, all the fun stuff he would be
learning, and everything that was expected of everyone who went to school. We got to the point where
he was only having a accident here and there and by the time school started he was doing great!
Maybe a accident once a week. I felt like that s what he needed.. like that is what drove him to

Wang Lung Stereotypes
Since the beginning of time, men have always adjudged theirself as a superior to women in both
power and status. In a way, this situation is rather prevalent in Pearl S. Buck s historical fiction The
Good Earth. Throughout the novel, Wang Lung overcomes an impoverished life and becomes a
wealthy landowner, with the support and help of O Lan. Despite being the wife of Wang Lung, O lan
was treated as if a slave and at one point was looked down upon for her unattractive features. Many of
Wang Lung s actions depict traditional Chinese beliefs that women are inferior beings, where they are
under constant oppression by men. Traditional Chinese culture s expectations on women are so
stereotyped that they are often times only viewed as slaves or

Hrm 531 Week 9 Final Project
Our company s Continuity Management Program (CMP) dictates that the business adheres to an
annual testing program. The program does utilize the guidelines from the Homeland Security Exercise
and Evaluation Program (HSEEP). The Continuity Management team has written and scripted into our
process to incorporate our Tabletop Exercise s (TTX s). Our annual process is to test each of our
business units for resiliency. TTX s allows for us to open up discussions and dialogues focusing on
many different areas in the event we need to declare. Also, the exercises aid in discovering any gaps
and working through each tier of the recovery process. Our business lines have Recovery Time
Objectives (RTO s) starting at 1 hour up to 72 hours. During the TTX s we cover the business impact

Our team monitors many business locations across the country. We monitor all hazards that could
impact any of our locations. However, during our TTX s we only cover storms, fires, and loss of
resources. In the East region we use a Hurricane scenario, and in the North/Central regions we run a
winter freeze scenario, plus for the Western regions, we cover fire in the building scenarios. Each one
of the scenarios is focused on the What if to how to respond to an event. For example, we moderate
the questions around building loss, reduction in staff, loss of IT, and loss of third party vendors. We
can interchange the scenario s to challenge the recovery strategies of each business unit. This year we
mainly ran the fire in the building situation. Every year we work to enhance the program to cover new

Okonkwo A Tragic Hero In Things Fall Apart
The personality traits of a character and the decisions they make can determine whether they are a
tragic hero in a classical sense or a tragic failure. In the novel Things Fall Apart, the main character,
Okonkowo, has down falling personality traits and makes decisions that make him a tragic hero. The
contribution to a tragic hero/failure is their flawed characteristic in personality. Okonkwo s rash and
often time brutish behaviour and aggression are few examples of his flawed personality. While this
stems from the fear of becoming his father Unoka, who was described as being lazy and debt himself
to other people of his clan. Unoka was a lover of music and idle chatter but not a fan of hard labour, he

Advantage Of Using Computer Essay
Advantages of Using Computers
Computers obviously wouldn t be as popular as they are now if they did not offer advantages over
doing tasks manually. Some of these advantages are: Computers can perform calculations much more
quickly and accurately than humans. For example, modern computers can perform hundreds of
millions of calculations per second. Large amounts of data can be stored in a small amount of space.
For example, hundreds of pages worth of text can be stored on a 31⁄2inch floppy disk. Computers can
work continuously and perform repetitive tasks well. Unlike their human counterparts, computers do
not get bored or tired.

Computers have revolutionized businesses, relieving workers from the burden of calculating and
record keeping with pen and paper. While there are a few holdouts and computers in certain
businesses collect dust, the majority of businesses throughout the world use a computer in some
capacity.
Organization
The organizational skills of companies have improved substantially since the 1970s and 1980s due to
the use of computers. Years ago, most contact information between clients, including phone numbers
and addresses for mailing lists, were kept in files or a Rolodex, which made searching for information
time consuming.
Today, customer information is easily accessible and updatable and this is far from the only
organizational area that s been transformed by computers. Product information, inventory, and
descriptions for sales companies are uploaded to computers and placed into databases or on the
internet for easy access by customers. Business accounts and invoices are also kept on computers so
that a customer service representative is only a few clicks away from aiding clients.
Production
The all important area of production has also been greatly impacted by computer technology. The
viability of most businesses is linked to the ability to produce products quickly and effectively.
Computers aid in this process in a number of ways: * They allow for companies to make models of
products, such as cars,

Limitations Of Globalization
Looking around my desk: a computer, glass mug, textbooks, a microphone, and various small
mementos; just in the close vicinity I have more products of globalization than an entire household
just a few centuries ago. Globalization is the flow of culture, a byproduct of spreading technology and
economic influence. This process has allowed the world once stricken with distinct cultures and
borders to consolidate into a functioning machine like entity. This entity not only delivers the products
seen on my desk, but it also has the potential to do wonders. For example, Thomas Friedman proposes
the theory that globalization is not merely an efficient machine but a mechanism for peace in his book
The World Is Flat. This peace is held together through a symbiotic relationship, with each component
secured with their place in line. While his theory seems promising it is important to evaluate both
sides to look for practical limitations or exploitations.
Why does globalization exist, why are countries softening their borders and working together in an
unprecedented new way? The answer to this question is demand. The demand to have the latest phone,
laptop, or artistically woven basket made by a designer from across the globe. In order to deliver the
product and meet the demand what needs to occur Friedman labels the supply chain symphony (126).
Factories in China need to know when and where the products for their device are located, even before
the customer orders it. This requires

Total Fitness Resource. It is important that all levels of the company are aware of the objectives and
strategies that are being used to meet those objectives. While Bally s has been doing well at this, they
should never get complacent and always be attentive to what is going on with all of their staff and all
of their members. Effective training and constant evaluation of staff members will insure top notch
customer service.
In short, Bally Total Fitness has been faring well in the fitness industry. First quarter results of 2004
have shown that net revenue has increased from the previous year s first quarter but by only 2%. By
more aggressive marketing this number can increase more by the next year. Both a market penetration

Thesis Statement For Online Shopping
2.1 Problem statement:
During research of this topic, a problem statement has been formulated that I believe requires some
researching into. As with any problem statement, it needs to address the 6 questions that always would
get asked concerning research worthy problem statements namely.
The problem, noted in this study, is that the exact reasons behind the sudden expansion of online
shopping are unknown.
One thing that is certain is that the world has become more connected and this growth in online
shopping has become a necessity to keep abreast of modern times.

E commerce is a product that has been available since the early 90 s. It is something that people are
familiar with. A product that is now part and parcel of people s lives.
The idea is to find out the reasons behind the growth in e commerce. How it began, what it is today

My Leadership Philosophy Of The Coast Guard
Subj: MY LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY
1. Leadership in the Coast Guard is the process of guiding and inspiring others toward closer
adherence to the core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Leadership is a set of behaviors
rather than just a set of ideals. Ideals are good, but ideals without the corresponding behaviors are
useless. The best way to guide others is to show by example; a true leader not only speaks out in favor
of the core values, but also exhibits them in their daily life.
2. Although leadership traits can be studied from textbooks, the best way to adopt good leadership
traits is to follow an example of positive leadership. In my career, I ve been very fortunate to have had
numerous positive role models on which to model by own behavior after. The following examples are
some situations where shipmates and supervisors have demonstrated outstanding leadership, and have
had a profound impact on me:
a. At my first duty station, my biggest desire was to fit in with everybody else. So whatever everybody
else did, I usually followed along and did likewise. This strategy is great if everybody else always
does the right thing; however, when the majority does the wrong thing, then this philosophy will lead
you astray. In this case, a member who was struggling to perform up to standards was becoming the
subject of jokes and disrespect by the rest of the crew. This lack of respect towards a shipmate became
flagrant. Unfortunately, as a new member of the

Liquidity Ratios and Activity Ratios
2.0 FINANCIAL RATIOS
2 Liquidity Ratios
Liquidity ratios measure a business capacity to pay its debts as they come due. It also measures the
cooperative s ability to meet short term obligations. Liquidity refers to the solvency of the firm s
overall financial position the ease with which it can pay its bills. Because a common precursor to
financial distress and bankruptcy is low or declining liquidity, these ratios can provide early signs of
cash flow problems and impending business failure. The two basic measures of liquidity are the
current ratio and the quick (acid test) ratio (Gitman, 2009).
1. Current ratios
The current ratio is current assets divided by current liabilities. The current ratio ... Show more content

No ratio, in fact, is especially meaningful without knowledge of the business from which it originates.
For example, a declining quick ratio with a stable current ratio may indicate that a company has built
up too much inventory, but it could also suggest that the company has greatly improved its collection
system. Quick ratio is expressed as follows:
Quick Ratio = Current assets Inventory / Current Liabilities Figure 2.2 explained the company s quick
ratio has been improving from year on year from 0.51 in 2007 to 0.63 in 2008 and then increased to
0.69 in 2009. Quick ratio for 2009 is higher compared to the industry average quick ratio that is 0.65.
Even though it has shown incremental improvement of their quick ratio and surpassed the industry
average of 0.65 acid tests, the firm would have to sell inventory to meet its obligations. Comparing
quick ratios over an extended period of time can be used to signal developing trends in a company.
While modest declines in the quick ratio do not automatically spell trouble, uncovering the reasons for
changes can help to find ways to nip potential problems in the bud. As for PJV s case, this is a good
sign that the company progress steadily in improving its quick ratio over 3 years period in which may
be resulting from its reduced inventories in 2009. The company s quick ratio can further be increased
to a satisfactory level (at least 1:1) by improving its collection system and policy. Like the

George W Bush Speech Analysis
The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers that took place on 11 September 2001 will never be
forgotten among American citizens. The complete destruction of the Twin Towers and the massive
death toll of the attacks left the United States in a widespread panic. On 14 September 2001, President
George W. Bush stepped up and delivered a speech later titled the Remarks at the National Day of
Prayer and Remembrance Service. President Bush proved that he was the leader that the United States
needed at this extremely difficult time. Bush delivered this speech to his fellow Americans in an
attempt to calm the panicking nation. President George W. Bush achieved his purpose through the
speech s structure, his word choice, and his use of the rhetorical devices of anaphora and repetition.
The structure of President Bush s speech was a crucial aspect in getting his points across to his fellow
Americans. At the beginning of the speech, Bush addresses the events that occurred three days earlier.
He does not ignore the great losses of the country or what the country is feeling. Instead, Bush
acknowledges the types of casualties and offers sympathy to the Americans that are suffering in the
second paragraph. Bush focuses on the negatives of September 11 and gets those sorrowful topics out
of the way early when he says, War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder (Par.
3). In the middle of the speech, Bush focuses on God and the strength of the United

Essay about The Existence of God
We go through life drifting from one superficial disagreement to another without truly ever taking the
time to ponder about the meaning of life. Such a question will not be easily resolved but by trying to
answer it we stop daydreaming and extend our conception of ourselves while gaining knowledge of
the external world (Solomon 10). Unfortunately anyone who attempts to answer that question quickly
realizes that it isn t just one broad question but rather it s the slogan to an overwhelming amount of
enquiries. Out of all possible question the one that has had the most influence on humanity is the
notion of whether or not God exists. Philosophers and non philosophers alike from ancient
civilizations to our modern era have contributed their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s start with the fact that God is powerful enough to control human thought and action to such a
point that if he truly desired it we would not doubt his existence. Nevertheless such a doubt does exist
so it can be established that humanity has the capacity to choose a course of action from among
various other alternatives (Free Will) . Having that ability in conjunction to what many philosophers
claim to be a naturally selfish human nature results in a combination were the prevailing outcome is
human suffering. However not all suffering is a result of human action or inaction which brings us to
the following point.
Natural disasters and diseases that claim the lives of tens of thousands cannot be easily explained with
a concept such as free will. Not having an obvious explanation doesn t signify that there exists no
solution but rather that there are limitations to human knowledge. Take for example the vast
uncertainty surrounding certain scientific and mathematical matters of fact when many, if not all
philosophers, can agree that is attainable knowledge. If that restraint exists for such topics than the
likelihood that we will know or understand what God is like is considerably higher. For example we
cannot begin to understand the scope of divine love since the best indication that we have is human
love which oscillates over time or is easily broken.
God as already defined transcends our experience so how exactly can his existence be proven when all

Early American Music Research Paper
One aspect of American history that has remained constant is the development of its music. American
music has always been a building block of American history, constantly changing along with the
country. In the beginning of what would soon become our great country, the migration of European
immigrants was a very heavy influence on American culture, lifestyle, and music at the time. In the
beginning stages of the colonization of America, European religious views were very present and, the
birth of early American sacred music was born out of this time of religious exploration. With many
people attempting to convert others, the music they used portrayed often their views and approaches to
these attempts. One of the groups of people doing this were the Shaker community, they had a belief
of shaking off their sins, the music they used in their services represented the belief of that activity.
With very up tempo music and a heavy Dance feel to it, they used this music to encourage the idea of
shaking off their sins and all ungodly things. Not long after the occurrence of the religious revival in
the new American colonies, the composing of American hymns started with William ... Show more

song was published as the state song for Maryland and in support for the Union, but soon after it was
revised by some Maryland residents who were in support of the Confederate army. They took the
original My Maryland song and altered some of the lyrics to show their views of opposition toward

The article is written by Tony Parsons, and could also be aimed at fans of his, as he is a writer who has
written many books. In this article Tony Parsons gives only his opinion, which is very biased against
the Muslim world, which suggests that it could also be aimed at readers with similar opinions and
interests.
The Guardian articles target audience are more literate readers because it has a lot of complex words
such as underlying assumptions . More educated and intelligent readers could read it because it has no

arguments) and this is typical of a broadsheet newspaper. People who have a lot of time to read an in
depth article, which shows many opinions, would usually read this. This article is less biased which
suggests that it could be aimed at someone who is open to the idea of finding out more information
about a particular subject by understanding both sides of the story.
Tony Parsons purpose in writing his article is to make self loathing, American hating liberals feel
ashamed, and to convince people not to hate America. He does this by reminiscing about the

Cultural Uniformity In The Twentieth Century
In the early twentieth century, the United States was quickly evolving to become a nation of prestige
on the global stage. Yet the young nation lagged in cultural uniformity which its counterparts in
Europe had been developing since the birth of the first European kingdoms. The progression in
cultural philosophy further evolved with significant cultural movements such as Humanism and the
Renaissance, the Enlightenment, Romanticism then Realism, and then the twentieth century s
Modernism. The United States did witness the effects of these movements but their effects lagged in
significance because of the great social divide the nation faced and still faces. The nation is home to a

DuBois and Alfred Rosenberg both touch upon the racial issues in the conflicting rural and urban
communities, in their pieces Of Work and Wealth and Myth of the Twentieth Century respectively.
DuBois writes about the East St. Louis Race Riot of 1917 that was a result of black workers replacing
white workers that were unionizing and protesting. DuBois expresses how the race institutions and
disfranchisement promote racial tensions that unilaterally destroy any sense of cultural unity in the
Middle West and throughout the nation. Mr. DuBois encourages the blacks to not give back because
they were guaranteed the same rights after the Civil War and that the disenfranchisement through local

Nietzsche Overcoming Nihilism Analysis
Friedrich Nietzsche: Overcoming Nihilism
The understanding of Friedrich Nietzsche s argument suggests that we can overcome nihilism.
Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one can
overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I understand
that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument which refers to
a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad consequences of us
subscribing to the slave morality. Considering these two arguments, Nietzsche notions that by
devaluating our values, one could start seeking power and answers. One final argument Nietzsche
mentions is that we are all incomplete nihilists and we need to become complete nihilists by creating
our own values. All in all, Nietzsche claims that cultural debunking arguments, consequence based
arguments and devaluating our values will help one overcome nihilism.
Firstly, by culturally debunking theories, Nietzsche believes we can find meaning in something that is
not already there. Nihilism states that existence has no aim , unity or truth to it, making life valueless
as a result (1888). Nietzsche states that we have to put meaning into this fictitious world and by doing
so, we can deposit a true world beyond the world we re familiar with. In premise one of the cultural
debunking argument, Nietzsche states that society has a concern with

Faneul Hall Research Paper
It was 1742 when the first town hall in Boston was opened. It was named Faneuil Hall which was
often referred to as the Cradle of liberty. Faneuil Hall served as a market place and a meeting hall
during the mid seventeen hundreds and is still in use now as a public meeting place for the people of
boston. It all started when a wealthy Bostonian Merchant named Peter Faneuil came up with the idea
of building a marketplace in Boston. After much debate, Boston accepted Faneuil s proposal. Once it
was built, the town government also used the marketplace as a meeting space. The lower lever of the
hall was divided into stalls which were exclusively for market purposes. In the market, meat,

This was the place where the first ideas of the American Revolution were thought of. Originally, the

sometimes led to incidents of violence on the streets and under the leadership of James Otis, Samuel

Modern Technology and It s Effects Essay
Argumentative essay
In our present society, people cannot deny that the changes in this world have been tied to the
advancement of the technology. It has evolved with this society so deeply where such conveniences
are no longer luxuries but rather necessities. Unfortunately, the most affected group of people from the
developed technology is the younger age people (Subrahmanyam, 2000). In the past, children were
more lively and active: playing outdoors, running around, climbing trees and remaining active rather
than watching television and playing video game and computer. It is true that the use of the
technology has its own virtue. It provides value, convenience and entertainment, but it should not take
the place of movement and realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kind of fats increases the level of cholesterol that could develop problems of heart, joints and
spinal cord (Journal of obesity, 2005). Afterwards, the impact of this problem can lead children to
more intense psychological and medical issues, which can have future reaching effects even into
adulthood (Pitman, 2008). According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2004, 16
percent of children in the ages of 6 19 year old are overweight or obese which could really have a
great chance of developing Type II Diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and blood pressure
(Obesity, 2011). In addition, technology can expose children to a number of other physical risks:
seizures, hand injuries and changes in heart rate (Subrahmanyam, 2000). Obviously, those of the
raised problems above are the developed negative health problems that come from the overused of
technology in the children s daily life.
The second reason why modern technology contributes to negative health problems is that children
independently use technology, which impact on their social development and relationship. As the age
of the kids, the majority of them still cannot control or understand how to limit themselves from their
wants. Some children spend so much time playing computer and video games all alone that they are
losing their ability to socialize with others, families and friends. Children can averagely spend six

Principles of Public International Law
Principles of Public International Law: Coursework Assignment Question: Law will never really play

Krasner notes that by facilitating accords, international legal sovereignty offers the possibility for
rulers to secure external resources that can enhance their ability to stay in power and promote the
security, economic, and ideational interest of their constituents. (Krasner, pg 17) Interdependence
sovereignty is the ability of a state to regulate the flow of information, goods, ideas and people into
and out of its country. States try to hold on to this type of sovereignty because their ability to do this is
directly related to their ability to effectively take control and organise their own polity, which in
essence is domestic sovereignty which states must hold on to by definition i.e. in order to be a state in
the first place. We shall consider reasons which prompt states to relinquish some of their sovereignty
later in our discussion. We have thus far acknowledged, via several examples, based on the politics
involved in the process of mutual recognition of states, that the issue of international legal sovereignty
or international legal validation is a de facto versus de jure consideration. Is this, however, a trend in
the legal procedures in international relations? The law, based on our previously defined definition,
must be applicable to the actors in the community in which it is operating. If, in the realm of
international relations, the law can be voluntarily and regularly flouted by

Obesity in the United States Essay
INTRODUCTION It is no surprise that obesity is becoming an increasingly prominent health concern.
In fact, since 1980 global obesity has almost doubled. (1) The percentage of children aged 6 11 years
in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the
percentage of adolescents aged 12 19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the
same period. (2) 35% of adults aged 20 and over were overweight in 2008, and 11% were obese. (1)
To put these percentages into perspective, in 2008 the world population was at almost 7 billion, more
than 1.4 billion adults, 20 and older, were overweight, roughly 500 million were obese. (1) Obesity
can no longer simply be a concern; it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2) In fact, the environment may be to blame. Rapid urbanization and the development of suburbs may
have developed a huge environmental impact on a global problem.
THE PROBLEM Many of the issues with both nutrition and physical activity can be directly
connected to flaws in urban design. It is evident that built environments can effect and has affected
physical activity, sedentary behaviors and physical fitness, and consequently health. (10) Studies on
sprawl and public health have found that increased levels of sprawl are associated with increased
obesity, decreased physical activity and poorer health. (9)
Certain features of the built environment such as the presence of sidewalks, streetlights,
interconnectivity of street, population density and use mix appear to encourage physical activity and
thus reduce the risk of obesity and related health problems. Other factors such as cul de sacs, lack of
parks, high speed traffic and auto mobile focused transportation may function to discourage activity
and ultimately increase obesity risk. (9)
Studies have found positive associations between urban sprawl and being obese, overweight, and
having inadequate physical activity. (8) If built environments can influence health in a life threatening
way then it is important to find out which

After the release of their 2014 summer bathing suit line, Target had realized they made a huge

constantly criticized for using them. Although there have been some very questionable fails in ads that

Victoria s Secret models are retouched to have the ideal beach bod , they are also and inspiration for
most people. According to Holmstrom in 2004, results of studies done by both Crouch and Degelman

Persuasive Essay On Hiking Community
Imagine you are hiking down a trail that you have gone down many times before when all of the
sudden an avalanche starts coming down from the side of the mountain. A bolder hits your leg and it is
now trapped under this rock formation with no way of escape. Your mind flashes back to this morning
over breakfast when you decided to go on this hike but thought, not telling anyone about your
whereabouts was a good decision. The importance of communicating where you plan to hike and
when you are going to do so are crucial to your safety and the peace of mind of your loved ones. As
just stated, you could get stuck under a rock or other land formation where there is no easy option for
escape. Another possibility is the weather or just your location could be an awful place to hike that
day. Lastly, the wildlife in any area is very unpredictable especially depending on the season and they
can attack you at any moment if they sense a threat. To begin, getting stuck under a boulder or other
land abnormality is a very serious and prevalent problem in the hiking community. There have been
many cases where people are just going for a calm hike when out of nowhere they get trapped under
something or maybe they just fall from a slippery piece of ice on the ground and they are not found for
days. These occurrences should not be happening when there is just a simple fix of telling a friend or
family member where you are and when you expect to be back home. Aron Ralston, a

How Does Heart Of Darkness Affect Joseph Conrad s...
Upon first glance, Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness appears to tell the tale of a riveting
adventure which tackles issues such as imperialism, race, and corruption. Charles Marlow, a British
man, is part of the ivory trading industry in the heart of Africa. Naturally, one would point to the
colonization and its implications in their analysis of this work. I argue, however, that beyond the
standard topics as previously mentioned lie insight into Conrad s perception of gender and women.
Furthermore, both the male and female characters in Heart of Darkness reveal the gender biases and
societal sexism held by Joseph Conrad. In order to accomplish this, I will explore three ways in which
Heart of Darkness excludes the female experience, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way that the African perspective is silenced and disregarded, British women are also
overlooked as nonsensical and morally corrupt. Through the imperialistic ventures, Kurtz robs the
Africans of their voice and autonomy. Similarly, the British women are denied voices, agency, and
even names. We are only given Marlow s bias and unfair assessment of women. The parallel between
imperialism and women in Heart of Darkness is highlighted by Martine Hennard Dutheil De la
Rochère in her work Heart of Darkness as a Modernist Anti Fairy Tale. She writes Heart of Darkness
can thus be read as a deeply ambivalent reflection on the collaboration between imperial and
patriarchal structures: it represents colonial exploitation as inseparable from the feminine and yet
justifies the exclusion of women in the name of a feminine ideal that Marlow attempts to preserve (De
la Rochere, 8). In order to perpetuate his patriarchal idealism of women, he cages them and prevents
any substantial female representation. Women in Heart of Darkness are nothing more than slaves to
their male counterpart s patriarchal efforts in the same way that the African population is regarded as
no more than an object in an economic

Reflection Paper On Powerlifting Moment
Powerlifting Progression
After enduring months of intense conditioning, the time came for us to see if our work paid off. It was
testing week for varsity football and bench press day had arrived. I maxed out at 335 pounds at the
beginning of the year and I was looking to make some gains. I did my dynamic warm up and static
stretches and hit a few reps of 300 pounds to stimulate blood flow. Routinely reaching for my
weightlifting belt, I arrived at a dilemma. The belt evidently grew a conscience of its own and decided
not to function. Presented with a chance to test the nature of my raw muscle, I had to visualize lifting
365 pounds without the aid of a weightlifting belt. I sat down and performed my normal pre lift rituals
to gain composure. Gradually lying backward, I grasped the bar as I adjusted my back to the bench.
With a deep breath, I un racked the bar and claimed the strongest bench press in the history of the
school. This record, however, was not the only accolade I acquired from powerlifting.
As a powerlifter, I am continuously prompted to assess my physical condition at any given time. This
awareness is very crucial because it has helped me balance the degree that I increase the intensity of
my workout to get stronger with the appropriate recovery time that allows my muscles to recuperate.
As the complexity of my workout progresses, my overall physical development follows suit. Knowing
that advancement in the weight room is enhanced through awareness, I greatly utilize this
understanding of growth when considering my intellectual progression.
If I want to become stronger in a particular lift, I start by highlighting details in individual segments of
that lift that can be improved. I make similar observations in regards to my intellectual state; for
example, stability exists as the foundation of my outlook on the world. From the atmosphere of my
upbringing as a homeschool student, to my pastimes as a powerlifter and critical thinker, stability
gives meaning to many properties that comprise my character. Being the third of eight children, most

The Victory With No Name Essay
The defeat of the first United States army by a coalition of Native Americans is the focus in Collin
Calloway s The Victory with No Name. In this historical account, Calloway addresses what occurred
on November 4th, 1791, when an Indian army consisting of a variety of Indian tribes, led by Little
Turtle and Blue Jacket, ambushed the first American army near the Wabash River to protect
themselves from American expansion of the Northwest Territory. The American army, led by
Revolutionary War veteran Arthur St. Clair, was ill equipped with men, horses, and weaponry, and
ignorant about Indian whereabouts and tactics. Calloway organizes his argument by describing
America s desire for land, the invasion and settlement of Indian land, and the resistance formed by
Native Americans. Calloway continues by illustrating the defeat of the American army and the
aftermath of the battle between Native Americans and the U.S. By drawing on extensive historical
evidence that illustrated the events before, during, and after the battle, Calloway presents a detailed
historical narrative that challenges the idea that winners write the history...even when they lose and
offers a narrative that shows both the Native American and the U.S. perspective, ultimately giving
credit to the Indians for their victory. However, Calloway provides information that is irrelevant to his

disposed of. The gin uses a combination of a wire screen and small wire hooks to pull the cotton
through, while brushes continuously remove the loose cotton lint to prevent jams. The modern version
of the cotton gin was created by the American inventor Eli Whitney in 1793 to mechanize the cleaning
of cotton. The invention was granted a patent on March 14, 1794. There is slight controversy over
whether the idea of the cotton gin and its constituent elements ... Show more content on

Watt s engine used 75% less coal than Newcomen s, and was much cheaper to run. Watt proceeded to
develop his engine further, modifying it to provide a rotary motion suitable for driving factory
machinery. This enabled factories to be sited away from rivers, and further accelerated the pace of the
Industrial Revolution. Newcomen s and Watt s early engines were atmospheric , meaning that they
were powered by the vacuum generated by condensing steam instead of the pressure of expanding
steam. Cylinders had to be large, as the only usable force acting on them was atmospheric pressure.
Steam was only used to compensate for the atmosphere allowing the piston to move back to its
starting position. Around 1800, Richard Trevithick introduced engines using high pressure steam.
These were much more powerful than previous engines and could be made small enough for transport
applications. Thereafter, technological developments and improvements in manufacturing techniques
(partly brought about by the adoption of the steam engine as a power source) resulted in the design of
more efficient engines that could be smaller, faster, or more powerful, depending on the intended

The Problem Of Ineffective Leadership
CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM Ineffective Leadership: Leaders who participate in dishonest practices
regularly make an environment of recompense inside of the association that is helpful for deviant
worker conduct that parallels that of the pioneer (Trevino and Brown, 2005). Employees will watch
the moral judgment of their CEO or overseeing chief and are frequently liable to mirror, regardless of
the possibility that such impersonation constitutes acting unscrupulously. Generally, regardless of
whether a pioneer is compensated for his or her conduct will likewise help focus the probability of
representative impersonation. A few powers make despicable comments, verbally ill use, exclude, and
put down their subordinates. Exploration and media reports recommend that turning into a casualty of
leaders coldhearted treatment is a negative ordeal for workers, impeding to their prosperity and the
proficiency of the association. Abuse by leaders has been alluded to in a few ways, including
interpersonal shamefulness, oppressive supervision social undermining, oppression, and tormenting
(Hoel Cooper, 2001). Albeit every conceptualization has unpretentious contrasts, they all include
workers observations that some of their principal mental needs are hindered by a power figure.
Abused workers react contrarily to pioneer abuse and are more prone to take part in freak conduct,
damaging standards of thoughtful behavior and of productive creation (Bennett Robinson, 2000).
These standard

Marley Quinn Marketing
The marketing for Harley Quinn will follow that of what has been used to promote Suicide Squad, as
well as other superhero action movies, both in the DC and Marvel Universe. Unlike the Marvel
movies, Harley Quinn is coming after Harley Quinn s introduction in the Suicide Squad movie.
Marvel did an opposite approach when it came to their superhero team movie, The Avengers, where
the characters who made up the super team were given introduction movies before the release of the
film that brings them all together. However, the marketing strategies that they used who be of interest
to Harley Quinn, because their objective, to bring in audience members who were more interested in
The Avengers than the individual movies, matches ours. For Thor: The Dark World, the trailer that
Marvel released put its most recognizable characters at the front and center. Harley Quinn, can borrow
from this tactic with its own trailer. While the character of Harley Quinn is currently not the most
recognizable character with in Gotham, her story does include two of the most popular characters in
comic book history. In the trailer we will include snippets of both the Joker, who does play a major
part to the plot, and Batman, who does not, so that audience members who are fans of those characters
will also want to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Thor, Harley Quinn can have its own comic book release that coincides with the movie. Harley
Quinn does currently have a few of her own comic books, most of which the plot line of the Harley
Quinn movie is based on. So instead of being a prelude to the movie, like Thor, the Harley Quinn
comic book can instead be a mini series following Harley after the events of Suicide Squad. This will
keep up the audience s interest in her character as well as get them interested in learning about her
backstory from the Harley Quinn

The Pros And Cons Of Japanese Culture
Comparative politicians often describe Japanese culture as a Confucian collectivist culture that
emphasizes family and work group goals above individualistic needs (Haddad). Embedded in their
language, Japanese culture adheres to a hierarchal structure set in place by Confucian ideals. Different
from western ideologies such as the ideals of The United States and The United Kingdom, these
cultural beliefs are, consequently, seen by western countries as the root to key differences within a
state. Indeed, when attempting to interpret differences seen in foreign states with ideologies distinct
from western ideologies, comparative politicians will often resort to cultural arguments as a default
explanation. Yet, for many phenomena, cultural arguments alone are prone to several errors that will
often result in the generalization of a population s actions (Reed). While a cultural argument seems to
be a plausible explanation for events occurring in states with different cultures, a cultural argument
alone is not sufficient, instead creating a broad explanation for complex economic and political events.
One argument that is considered to have an insufficient cultural explanation is the differences between
litigation as an action to settle disputes between Western Countries and Japan. In Japan, their
population filed only 1,257 civil cases per 100,000 people in 1970. When compared to the United
States and Britain, the number of civil suits brought before the Japanese court system is

Limitations Surrounding Online Counseling
With the limitations surrounding online counseling, the cousnselor may lack the ability to meet a
client s immediate or crisis needs in the same way that face to face therapy can. In particular, online
services that have delayed communication may not respond to a client quickly enough to assist them
in a meaningful way (Finn and Barak 2010). In addition, when a client does have immediate needs,
communicating through text lacks the same type of empathy that can be conveyed in face to face
interactions (Richards and Vigano 2013). Consequently, people utilizing online counseling may not
feel supported to in the same way when it comes to urgent or crisis situations, as they would be if they
were utilizing traditional services. Despite possible

  • 2. Narrative Speech About Bullying Miss. Webb, I ve been talking a lot with Brayden here lately about these accidents he has been having at school. I know at home when his attention is focused on something he likes watching or likes doing he will sometimes have accidents. I felt like it was because he didn t want to miss out on whatever was going on at that moment and was ignoring his body. I ve had many talks with him about making sure he always stops and goes when he needs to go! That whatever he is doing at that time will still be there when he gets back. We did have this issue before he started school, but he had showed a lot of improvement before school had started and we followed through with letting him start. He really wanted to go to school and we explained that in order to come to school everyone had to follow the same rules and that they also had to be able to use the bathroom and not accident on themselves. I even made sure he knew he could take a bathroom break anytime he needed to. I wanted to make sure he understood what I was saying and so I would have talks with him a little everyday before school had started. I talked to him about the stuff he would be doing in school, all the fun stuff he would be learning, and everything that was expected of everyone who went to school. Limitations Of Globalization Looking around my desk: a computer, glass mug, textbooks, a microphone, and various small mementos; just in the close vicinity I have more products of globalization than an entire household just a few centuries ago. Globalization is the flow of culture, a byproduct of spreading technology and economic influence. This process has allowed the world once stricken with distinct cultures and borders to consolidate into a functioning machine like entity. This entity not only delivers the products seen on my desk, but it also has the potential to do wonders. For example, Thomas Friedman proposes the theory that globalization is not merely an efficient machine but a mechanism for peace in his book The World Is Flat. This peace is held together through a symbiotic relationship, with each component secured with their place in line. While his theory seems promising it is important to evaluate both sides to look for practical limitations or exploitations. Why does globalization exist, why are countries softening their borders and working together in an unprecedented new way? The answer to this question is demand. The demand to have the latest phone, laptop, or artistically woven basket made by a designer from across the globe. In order to deliver the product and meet the demand what needs to occur Friedman labels the supply chain symphony (126). Leadership in the Coast Guard is the process of guiding and inspiring others toward closer adherence to the core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. Leadership is a set of behaviors rather than just a set of ideals. Ideals are good, but ideals without the corresponding behaviors are useless. The best way to guide others is to show by example; a true leader not only speaks out in favor of the core values, but also exhibits them in their daily life. 2. Although leadership traits can be studied from textbooks, the best way to adopt good leadership traits is to follow an example of positive leadership. In my career, I ve been very fortunate to have had numerous positive role models on which to model by own behavior after. The following examples are some situations where shipmates and supervisors have demonstrated outstanding leadership, and have had a profound impact on me: a. At my first duty station, my biggest desire was to fit in with everybody else. So whatever everybody else did, I usually followed along and did likewise. This strategy is great if everybody else always does the right thing; however, when the majority does the wrong thing, then this philosophy will lead you astray. It also measures the cooperative s ability to meet short term obligations. Liquidity refers to the solvency of the firm s overall financial position the ease with which it can pay its bills. Because a common precursor to financial distress and bankruptcy is low or declining liquidity, these ratios can provide early signs of cash flow problems and impending business failure. The two basic measures of liquidity are the current ratio and the quick (acid test) ratio (Gitman, 2009). 1. Current ratios The current ratio is current assets divided by current liabilities. The current ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No ratio, in fact, is especially meaningful without knowledge of the business from which it originates. For example, a declining quick ratio with a stable current ratio may indicate that a company has built up too much inventory, but it could also suggest that the company has greatly improved its collection system. Quick ratio is expressed as follows: Quick Ratio = Current assets Inventory / Current Liabilities Figure 2.2 explained the company s quick ratio has been improving from year on year from 0.51 in 2007 to 0.63 in 2008 and then increased to 0.69 in 2009. The complete destruction of the Twin Towers and the massive death toll of the attacks left the United States in a widespread panic. On 14 September 2001, President George W. Bush stepped up and delivered a speech later titled the Remarks at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service. President Bush proved that he was the leader that the United States needed at this extremely difficult time. Bush delivered this speech to his fellow Americans in an attempt to calm the panicking nation. President George W. Bush achieved his purpose through the speech s structure, his word choice, and his use of the rhetorical devices of anaphora and repetition. The structure of President Bush s speech was a crucial aspect in getting his points across to his fellow Americans. At the beginning of the speech, Bush addresses the events that occurred three days earlier. He does not ignore the great losses of the country or what the country is feeling. Instead, Bush acknowledges the types of casualties and offers sympathy to the Americans that are suffering in the second paragraph. Unfortunately anyone who attempts to answer that question quickly realizes that it isn t just one broad question but rather it s the slogan to an overwhelming amount of enquiries. Let s start with the fact that God is powerful enough to control human thought and action to such a point that if he truly desired it we would not doubt his existence. Nevertheless such a doubt does exist so it can be established that humanity has the capacity to choose a course of action from among various other alternatives (Free Will) . Having that ability in conjunction to what many philosophers claim to be a naturally selfish human nature results in a combination were the prevailing outcome is human suffering. However not all suffering is a result of human action or inaction which brings us to the following point. Natural disasters and diseases that claim the lives of tens of thousands cannot be easily explained with a concept such as free will. Not having an obvious explanation doesn t signify that there exists no solution but rather that there are limitations to human knowledge. Take for example the vast uncertainty surrounding certain scientific and mathematical matters of fact when many, if not all philosophers, can agree that is attainable knowledge. If that restraint exists for such topics than the likelihood that we will know or understand what God is like is considerably higher. American music has always been a building block of American history, constantly changing along with the country. In the beginning of what would soon become our great country, the migration of European immigrants was a very heavy influence on American culture, lifestyle, and music at the time. In the beginning stages of the colonization of America, European religious views were very present and, the birth of early American sacred music was born out of this time of religious exploration. With many people attempting to convert others, the music they used portrayed often their views and approaches to these attempts. One of the groups of people doing this were the Shaker community, they had a belief of shaking off their sins, the music they used in their services represented the belief of that activity. Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one can overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I understand that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument which refers to a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad consequences of us subscribing to the slave morality. Firstly, by culturally debunking theories, Nietzsche believes we can find meaning in something that is not already there. Nihilism states that existence has no aim , unity or truth to it, making life valueless as a result (1888). Krasner notes that by facilitating accords, international legal sovereignty offers the possibility for rulers to secure external resources that can enhance their ability to stay in power and promote the security, economic, and ideational interest of their constituents. (Krasner, pg 17) Interdependence sovereignty is the ability of a state to regulate the flow of information, goods, ideas and people into and out of its country. States try to hold on to this type of sovereignty because their ability to do this is directly related to their ability to effectively take control and organise their own polity, which in essence is domestic sovereignty which states must hold on to by definition i.e. in order to be a state in the first place. We shall consider reasons which prompt states to relinquish some of their sovereignty later in our discussion. We have thus far acknowledged, via several examples, based on the politics involved in the process of mutual recognition of states, that the issue of international legal sovereignty or international legal validation is a de facto versus de jure consideration. Is this, however, a trend in the legal procedures in international relations? The law, based on our previously defined definition, must be applicable to the actors in the community in which it is operating. I argue, however, that beyond the standard topics as previously mentioned lie insight into Conrad s perception of gender and women. We are only given Marlow s bias and unfair assessment of women. The parallel between imperialism and women in Heart of Darkness is highlighted by Martine Hennard Dutheil De la Rochère in her work Heart of Darkness as a Modernist Anti Fairy Tale. She writes Heart of Darkness can thus be read as a deeply ambivalent reflection on the collaboration between imperial and patriarchal structures: it represents colonial exploitation as inseparable from the feminine and yet justifies the exclusion of women in the name of a feminine ideal that Marlow attempts to preserve (De la Rochere, 8). In order to perpetuate his patriarchal idealism of women, he cages them and prevents any substantial female representation. It was testing week for varsity football and bench press day had arrived. I maxed out at 335 pounds at the beginning of the year and I was looking to make some gains. I did my dynamic warm up and static stretches and hit a few reps of 300 pounds to stimulate blood flow. Routinely reaching for my weightlifting belt, I arrived at a dilemma. The belt evidently grew a conscience of its own and decided not to function. Presented with a chance to test the nature of my raw muscle, I had to visualize lifting 365 pounds without the aid of a weightlifting belt. I sat down and performed my normal pre lift rituals to gain composure. Gradually lying backward, I grasped the bar as I adjusted my back to the bench. With a deep breath, I un racked the bar and claimed the strongest bench press in the history of the school. This record, however, was not the only accolade I acquired from powerlifting. As a powerlifter, I am continuously prompted to assess my physical condition at any given time. This awareness is very crucial because it has helped me balance the degree that I increase the intensity of my workout to get stronger with the appropriate recovery time that allows my muscles to recuperate. As the complexity of my workout progresses, my overall physical development follows suit. In this historical account, Calloway addresses what occurred on November 4th, 1791, when an Indian army consisting of a variety of Indian tribes, led by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket, ambushed the first American army near the Wabash River to protect themselves from American expansion of the Northwest Territory. The American army, led by Revolutionary War veteran Arthur St. Clair, was ill equipped with men, horses, and weaponry, and ignorant about Indian whereabouts and tactics.
