American Dream In The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s life shows the true meaning of the American Dream in the novel The Great
Gatsby. F. Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in Saint Paul Minnesota. He was named
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald after his distant cousin Francis Scott Key who wrote the Star Spangled
Banner. Being named after a famous American would foreshadow his life becoming a true
representation of what it means to be patriotic, and live in the American Dream, especially in the 1920
s. His life would later be said to be strongly patriotic, though not the flag waving patriotic (Bruccoli.)
F. Scott found his passion for writing when he was in high school and had begun writing for his high
school newspaper. His love for writing and learning helped him to achieve ... Show more content on

become his most famous work and an American classic, The Great Gatsby. The Great Gatsby was

Schwinn 28-Personal Narrative
When I reach my apartment, I park in the garage and lift the bike from the car. The bicycle frame is
teal with white trim and has the name Schwinn 28 written on it. It s a beauty. I sit on the cushioned
seat. With my feet touching the ground, I move the bike forward on the street. As per Zak s
instructions, I pedal with one foot and the other. When the bike sways to the left, I steer in the
direction of the curve. Thirty minutes later, I m over the moon with my purchase and ride home. I can
t wait to show Malcolm. So when I walk through the front door, I call out to him. He exits the office,
and comes towards me. I stand aside and show off my bike. Man, where did you find the snazzy
wheels, he says. I bought it at a thrift store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I lay in bed and reason that riding a bicycle isn t so special after all. In fact, it s overrated. Still, I
realize these excuses won t fly with Doris or Zak. So, when she knocks at my front door, I greet her
dressed, and in a cheerful mood. She s pleased, and promises to prepare macaroni and cheese for
dinner if I practice an hour longer with no complaints. No problem. I grab a granola bar and drink my
protein shake. The food s a temporary fix that does little to ease the drudgery of bike practice. In fact,
halfway through my practice, it looks as if my tasty reward of homemade mac cheese is out of reach.
Since more often than not, I touch my feet to the pavement over and again. And my stamina has
peaked. So much so, that I stop and lay my head on the handlebars and curse. Thank god nobody is
near enough to hear me. Minutes later, a second wind kicks in. I pedal determined to round the corner.
At last, I turn right and see Doris who has her arms overhead and waving at me. Her enthusiasm
ignites me, and I pedal with all my might to reach her. However, when I do, I gasp for air. I get off the
bike and sit on the grass. She wipes sweat from my face and hands me a bottle of water. I sip it, and
look at Doris. You re an amazing coach with a brilliant method of enticing me with

Types Of Attacks On A Computer System
Different Types of Attacks on
Computer Systems
What is attack on a Computer Systems?
Attack on a systems or network is defined on your network infrastructure. Attacker will first analyse
network environment and collect information in order to take advantage of the existing open ports or
vulnerabilities. It may include unauthorized access to company s resources.
Passive attack In some cases, the purpose of attack is only to learn and get some information from
your computer system and your computer system resources are not manipulated or disabled in any
way, then it is called Passive attack.
And it is hard to detect that someone is monitoring you because you will not see any changes in your
system.
Active attack Active attack occurs where the attacker accesses and either alters, disables or destroys
your information or data. Attack can be happened either from outside of the organization means
Outside Attack or someone from within the company who is an insider that already has access to the
network which is called Inside Attack.
Some of the attacks will be attacks targeting the end users like Phishing or Social Engineering, those

Social Media Marketing Or Email Marketing For Android App Development
Every mobile app development company is currently aspiring to reach a wider audience and obtain
more users due to the increasing competition among other development companies which are
becoming much stiffer. Unfortunately, many are yet to decide on which marketing medium to choose.
It is actually hard to compare between email marketing and social media marketing, as they are
basically designed to serve different purposes in the overall marketing strategy of a digital product like
an app. But for the sake of clarity, these two marketing giants will be considered so mobile app

Enhanced publicity
Marketing via social media can help to foster business recognition. It provides awesome opportunities
for businesses to gain publicity, which is certainly profitable. Your social networking systems serve as
just new channels for your business voice and substance. This is imperative on the grounds that it
makes you recognized and even more available to new clients while making your business more
intimate and notable with existing clients.
For instance, a regular Twitter user who is interested in your services can get to know more of your
organization by simply stumbling across your ad in a newsfeed. On the other hand, a generally
indifferent client may get to be better familiarized with your organization in the wake of sighting your
social media presence on different platforms.
Promotes efficiency
Corresponding to a recent report released by Texas Tech University, businesses that connect with
social media channels experience higher unwavering dedication from their clients. The report
concluded by stating that business organizations ought to exploit social media tools made available to
them as regarding the matter of associating with the public. A crucial and direct social media policy
could demonstrate full dominance in transforming clients into being committed to the services they

Maimonides The Guide For The Perplexed
The Commentary on the Mishnah was Maimonides first major work and was written to give a clear
and accessible explanation of Jewish Law, as it was used in the Mishnah, without any major study of
the Talmud. This commentary was also the first of its kind and inspired others to compose
commentaries like this. He concluded the commentary with this I, Moses, the son of Maymon,

The Guide for the Perplexed is a series of three books that argues for the compatibility of Aristotelian
philosophy and Judaism. The first book deals with the nature of God, concluding that God cannot be
described in positive terms. The second book examines natural philosophy, particularly Aristotle s
system of concentric spheres, and theories of the creation and duration of the universe, and the theory
of angels and prophecy. In the last Book, he clarifies the mystical Merkabah section of Ezekiel
(Friedlander, Sacred Texts). Following this he covers the 613 laws of the Pentateuch, organized into
14 branches, attempting to present rational explanations for each law. He wrote the Guide to promote
the true understanding of the real spirit of the Law, to guide those religious persons who, adhering to
the Torah, have studied philosophy and are embarrassed by the contradictions between the teachings
of philosophy and the literal sense of the Torah (Jacobs, Jewish Encyclopedia). This Guide was
recognized as Maimonides most significant and life changing books, which had many impacts on
Judaism. It showed that faith and reason were compatible and encouraged Jews to base their faith on
reason. It enabled Judaism to withstand the threat from philosophy by showing that it could be open to
intellectual debate and scrutiny. It provided leadership to communities of the Jewish Diaspora at a

Answer
Options allow investors to hedge against risk. If one expects stock prices to rise, then he/she may like
to invest in stocks. However, buying stocks also entails risk because of price fluctuation. The risk will
be potentially large in case price falls to zero. In order to avoid risk one may like to buy a call option.

The Role Of Idiopathic Trombocytopenic Pumpune Responses
There is a rising acknowledgement of the dire role platelets play in the inflammation and immune
responses. Platelets release copious inflammatory mediators that have no known role in hemostasis.
Several of these mediators modify leukocyte and endothelial responses to a variety of diverse
inflammatory stimuli. Additionally, platelets form a bond with leukocytes and form conduits between
leukocytes and endothelium, largely mediated by platelet P selectin. Through their collaboration with
monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes and the endothelium, platelets are therefore essential controllers
of inflammation and both innate and adaptive immune responses. Occasionally, the body s immune
system mistakenly attacks and destroys platelets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is extremely important to notify health care providers if any of the following signs and symptoms of
bleeding occur: easy bruising of the skin, petechiae, blood in urine, black tarry stools, nosebleeds,
bleeding from the gums, increase in vaginal bleeding, and new onset of painful joints. (Williams, L.
S., Hopper, P. D. (2015, p. 573 574).
Idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) is clinically diagnosed through a thorough medical history
including a physical examination, complete blood count (CBC), and peripheral blood smear
examination. (Blackwell, J., Goolsby, M. J. (2003)). Upon examination of laboratory results,
prolonged bleeding time and a platelet count of less than 20,000/mm3 may suggest that one has ITP.
Furthermore examination of platelets under a microscope show cells to be small and immature in
appearance. Typically platelets have a lifespan of seven to ten days, but the immature platelets cells
seen under the microscope may only survive for a few hours. Anemia is another complication that can
result from the loss of blood, given that the person has a bleeding episode. (Williams, L. S., Hopper, P.
D. (2015, p. 573 574). Pregnancy can furthermore make a diagnosis of ITP more complex.
The number one goal of treatment for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is to have no
bleeding and a normal platelet count. The majority of acute ITP cases resolve themselves

The Buddha Was A Very Smart Man Named Siddhattha Gotama
The Buddha was a very smart man named Siddhattha Gotama. He passed up many great positions to
continue on his journey. He tried his own techniques and learned from them. Buddhism was not the
first religion in China, it migrated from India. Buddhism is a vast and complex religious philosophical
tradition. Buddhism was the religion everyone in China mostly followed and a little bit of the previous
one.
Buddha is not a name it is a title that means one who has woken up. You can not be called Buddha
until you have reached enlightenment. The Buddha s mother had a dream that the Buddha enters her

Buddha practiced a breathing technique which involved retaining the breath for longer and longer
periods of time, a headache was a result of this. He moved on to a new technique which he only ate a
teaspoon of bean soup a day, his hair started to fall out and he could not sit upright. After that
technique failed he realized that his appetite should be moderated. You should not deny it or indulge in
excess. Canons are a collection of scriptures that contains the Buddha teachings. The Buddha did not
make himself a leader therefore he did not need a successor. After the Buddha was gone everyone
should follow the Dharma and the monks should hold on to this and the Vinaya, which is the rules he
laid down for the regulation of monastic life.
Buddhism reached China in the first century. At that time Han Dynasty had consolidated Chinese
power in Central Asia. Confucianism was the dominant ideology in China, which is socio ethical
principles deriving from the teaching of the sage. Buddhism seemed to conflict with some Confucian
values because Confucianism regarded the family as the foundation of society, and the Buddhist leave
their families and renounce. Buddhism seemed to take up where Confucianism left off, and described
an unseen world about which Confucianism had little to say about. When the people enquired about
death, Confucius gave this answer: You cannot know about death before you know about life .

Essay on The Woman Warrior, by Maxine Hong Kingston
The theme of voiceless woman throughout the book the woman warrior is of great importance.
Maxine Kingston narrates several stories in which gives clear examples on how woman in her family
are diminished and silenced by Chinese culture. The author not only provides a voice for herself but
also for other women in her family and in her community that did not had the opportunity to speak out
and tell their stories.
The author starts the book with the story of her aunt. This story was a well kept family secret being
that her aunt s actions were of great disappointment to the family. The no name woman as the story
names her, was forgotten by all her family because she had a child that was not from her husband.

After so many years of being subjected by other people, she finally took her life into her own hands
and made an attempt to be happy.
According to the book, this woman gave birth to a baby which was a symbol of embarrassment and
humiliation not only for the villagers but for all the family. Even though this baby did not have any
notion of what was going on, she was still a victim of Chinese norms. This baby also became forgotten
being that she was not given the opportunity to be alive. Kingston s aunt decision of killing the baby,
had to do greatly with the fact that she was girl. As the book states it was probably a girl; there is some
hope for forgiveness for boys . Without any doubt, if the baby was given the opportunity to live she
would have been mistreated and condemned all her life. She would not have had the opportunity to
developed her own identity or raise her own voice .
Additionally, another example that implies that Kingston aunt had no voice is when the author states,
The work of preservation demands that the feelings playing about in one s guts not to be turned into
action. Just watch their passing like cherry blossoms (Kingston 8). This sentence can be interpreted
that a women s feelings and wishes were not allowed to be turned into reality or to be expressed. On
the contrary, their feelings and wishes were only allowed to be kept to their selves as if

Compare And Contrast The Political Parties Of Mexico
Mexico consists of three main political parties that build the framework for the Federal Government of
Mexico. These three parties are the Institutional Revoluntionary Party (PRI), The National Action
Party (PAN), and the most recent addition, the Democratic Revolutionary (PRD). There are many
similarites between Mexico s political parties and the United States, the PAN leans to the right of the
political spectrum making it Republican, and PRD swings to the left making for a Democratic party.
The most popular of the three, PRI sits right in the middle of the spectrum and has more of a

Mexico are strong supporters of this politcal party due to the fairness of its elections. PAN allows for
anyone from low to high class to run for political figures in the group, unlike PRI system only
allowing for the powerful wealthly citizens to take part. I believe the presence of PAN is more
significant in the manner that they have a positive outlook and influence on society in regards to
political fairness and the support of religion. If I were a citizen of Mexico I would support the PAN

`` Brave New World `` By Aldous Huxley
John the Savage is the only person in this new world society born naturally from a mother and not
from a factory, John is a unique human being with an identity and a family relationship unlike any
other character in Aldous Huxley s novel, Brave New World . Even though he is the son of two upper
class utopians, he grows up in the depths of Malpais: The Savage Reservation. Torn between two
cultures, John is not truly a part of the savage society or of the new world society. His only society is
an imaginative world built around Shakespeare s books. John is the ultimate outsider and his life is
filled with confusion and struggle.
Although he does not appear until chapter seven of Brave New World , John is the protagonist of the
story and the symbol of the old world society. The outer appearance of John can reveal the struggle
within him. He may be dressed like a savage, but his light colored skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes
betray his origin. He was born on the Savage Reservation to Linda, a Beta minus who had lived in the
new world society before being abandoned on the reservation by the Director of Hatcheries and
Conditioning (The D.H.C.). The Director does not even know of his existence until John later appears
in London as an adult. His life on the reservation is miserable, because he is not accepted by the other
savages and cannot understand the lifestyle that his mother lives. As a result, he is isolated and desires
for something and somewhere to belong to.

Advantages Of Nationalisation In Business
For years, nationalisation has been a prohibited subject within British economies and politics.
However, Jeremy Corbyn s economic project has been concentrated around nationalisation. One of
Corbyn s arguments has been that, national ownership of particular businesses can, promote long term
development of the economy, help to acquire a renovating infrastructure and also provide a quality
health and social care system. Furthermore, with the use of examples from around the world, Corbyn
attempts to illustrate that the state is an ineffective manager, and also indicate the positive
contributions of national ownership. Furthermore, in the UK, national state ownership has previously
been too centralised, with authority in the hands of a private and commercial elite, which promotes
Adam Smith s ideology. This is portrayed when he said, Avarice overrates the difference between
poverty and riches: ambition, that between a private and a public station... , demonstrating that
entrepreneurs drive economies and that their profits are a reward for their own risk, with this being the
Just World theory. In addition, the ideology of Freidrich A. Hayek is also supported by this, and is
illustrated when he said, The more the state plans the more difficult planning is for the individual ,
indicating that the state is exploiting and alienating the population of the UK. Therefore, to improve
national ownership in the UK, measures have to be taken in order to increase the democratic

Lab Report On Colligative Properties

Lab 11: Keep It Liquid
Introduction
The purpose of this lab was to study colligative properties. These properties are properties that are
affected when a solute is added to a solvent. Thus, the amount is important, not the actual type of
substance, for the colligative properties. A couple types of this property are the freezing point and
boiling point of a substance. (1) The specific property observed in this lab was the freezing point
depression caused by the additives. This is the change in the freezing point between a standard solvent
and said solvent with added solutes. This changes the entropy of the system, making the properties
change somewhat, lowering the freezing point itself with the addition of more solute. Hence, the term
freezing point depression . A similar effect leads me to my hypothesis. Boiling point elevation is, like
freezing point depression, a colligative property. When cooking something on a stove at higher
elevations, salt (a solute) is added to the water in order to enable the water to go to higher
temperatures without boiling. The more salt is added, the higher the temperature is able to go.
Knowing this, it makes sense that the largest amount of solute will lower the temperature of our
chosen solvent, tert butanol, the most.
Method
As stated, our solvent in this lab will be tert butanol. We start by recording the freezing point of this
substance without anything added. Then, we add various

Standardized Testing Are A Waste Of Time Essay
Standardized Test Are a Waste of Time According to Diane Ravitch, Sometimes, the most brilliant and
intelligent minds do not shine in standardized tests because they do not have standardized minds. Her
point is that not every students mind operates the same way, so one test that all students must take
does not measure the student s actually abilities. Across the United States, standardized testing is a
popular method used to measure a student s academic ability and their college admission. These
exams have multiple choice questions and sometimes a writing section, which the examiners must
complete in a certain amount of time. Every year the tests get harder and harder, which causes anxiety
in the students. Standardized testing does not measure the skills students have learned and their
intelligence from school and life. The main purpose of testing is to set a standard and have a baseline

such as teachers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools should put more emphasis on the growth and development of a student, instead of ranking and
determining their worth based on test scores and grades. Standardized exams are an unreliable way to
grade students and prepare them for college. In addition, they do not teach or advocate life skills that
students need when they are developing and later on in life. As Albert Einstein has said, Everybody is
a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it
is stupid. Einstein s quote perfectly describes today s education system. Not everyone processes
information the same way or has the same talents; therefore, one test cannot measure a student s

Consequences Of The Tea Act Of 1773
1773 the Tea Act was formally implemented. This act gave the Britain s East India Company (shipper)
the right to transport tea directly into the Colony without paying any of the regular taxes that were
imposed on Colonial merchants. The dumping the tea into the colony allowed the shipper to undercut
the American merchants and monopolize the tea trade (Brinkley 101). The consequence of this policy
instigated further resentment towards the Crown and added to the belief that it was not appropriately
represented by their government. In reducing the tax burden, leaving only the taxes on tea, leadership
assumed the shift would be welcomed. In reality, Parliament had lost touch with its citizens. In protest,
passive aggressive movements took hold; The Daughters of Liberty boycotted tea (Brinkley 102).

Colony as the Intolerable Acts. These acts further provoked the population; adding validity to the term
taxation without representation. The population of the time felt that the acts of England were imposed
without the input of the American colony. The actions taken by the Crown, in response to the Boston

Sport Injuries
Injuries are a crucial issue throughout the sports world and affect most players futures. Athletes are
concerned of getting severely hurt or having their lives be at risk. Many players have the chance to
prevent their injuries, but yet they never do. Families must discuss with the athlete about whether it is
safe and enforce the rules to stop injuries such as concussions. More protection could also be worn to
prevent broken bones or worse and also stretching to strengthen muscles. Injuries have increased a
tremendous amount throughout the years because many players have stopped wearing the correct

(UWIRE 1)? Rules should also be enforced which causes players to think about their actions and if
they do hurt a player, there is a consequence. In addition, parents do have somewhat of a say and can

Examples Of Tuesdays With Morrie Aphorism
As you get older, you learn that life is shorter than you think. Researchers explain that one third of our
life is sleeping and another third is working/school. This means humans are usually left with less than
one third of your life which you can do things you love. Today, humans don t understand how much
time they lose doing useless things. The worst thing is sometimes you don t even know when your end
is near. You could even die today from a heart attack or die in a fatal accident. We are explaining the

Along with the argument of love, towards the end of the book, Morrie was on the borderline of death.
He was making life easy for him and enjoying every moment of his last few weeks and months.
Morrie thought of everything in a positive way and even turned every negative thought to a positive
thought when Mitch questioned him. Morrie set goals for himself like talking on as many talk shows

book is about life goals and dreams. In the novel, Morrie states, If you really want it, then you will
make your dream happen (47). From this quote, I believe this is important because if you don t set
goals for yourself then everything could just go wrong. This relates to me because I try to set goals for

goals, I would continue on with bad habits and procrastination with most things. Without setting goals
would keep me unorganized and messy. This quote proves I need to set goals because then I might

Season 1, episode 22, fear takes over almost an entire neighborhood. The twilight zone is a very old
T.V. show in which the theme of the short shows usually based on all of the flaws in humanity. The
First taste of prejudice is the very thought that creates pandemonium on Maple Street. One main
weapon humanity uses is prejudice. This quote is when Mr. Goodman s car starts out of nowhere and
now They are are pointing out all of his flaws He was always an oddball. Him and his whole family.
Real oddballs, (Serling pg.7). This quote helps the reader understand that the people that are always
too quick to assume are the people that have something to hide and that they find every little action
that could well end up tying to why the aliens piloted over head. Now they are pointing out that Les
Goodman is an oddball and that he now must have something to do with the dilemma. Another piece
of evidence that shows that prejudice is a literal weapon in humanity is when Pete Van Horn is shot
and is now dead. (Serling pg.13) A figure suddenly materializes in the gloom and silence... Charlie
pulls the trigger the sound of it explodes in the stillness... (holding the dead mans crushed glasses) it s

What the Two Proposals in Pride and Prejudice Reveal...
Pride and Prejudice is a novel fixated on marriage: throughout, all the action occurs within scenes
devoted to either the talk of marriage or actual proposals. This cannot be expounded more than within
the very first line: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good
fortune must be in want of a wife . Here, at the beginning of the novel, a definite, though somewhat
sarcastic, statement introduces the main theme of the novel marriage and, possibly more importantly,
not love.
The stark divide between love and marriage shown right the way through cannot be comprehended
fully by the twenty first century reader: in today s society marriage and love are mutually exclusive

This is the reason both proposals are declined: Elizabeth is of a mind that she will not marry for social
security or for money only love could tempt her into matrimony. The first proposal is from Mr Collins,
a man to whom Elizabeth was not even his first choice; Jane, the eldest and most beautiful, was his
first fancy, but when informed that she had been privately engaged, he swiftly switches to Elizabeth,
who is equally next to Jane in birth and beauty . His introduction to Elizabeth is not a pleasant one,
although he is too ignorant to notice; she finds him a conceited, pompous, narrow minded, silly man .
Her observation is quite correct, and illustrated to the greatest affect in his proposal speech.
Collins does not seem to possess his own conception of love: he intends to get married merely because
it is the particular advice and recommendation of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, his patron and first love .
He even goes so far as to explain this to Elizabeth within his proposal; Mr Collins you must marry,
Chuse...a gentle woman for my [Lady Catherine s] sake , showing his complete inaptitude to
understand the feelings of others. No mutual acquaintance and love between each other was needed.
Marriage, to Collins, was only a right thing for every clergyman in easy circumstances . Apart from
explaining in his highly verbose manner that he is marrying because he was told to, he

The Concentration Of Poverty And Poverty
Some problems associated with living in a neighborhood with a high percentage of the population
living in poverty include increased crime rates, poor education, health problems and psychological
distress. The concentration of people in high poverty neighborhoods magnifies the problems faced by
the poor. This is because it leads to the concentration of the ills associated with poverty. Children in
these neighborhood do not only lack basic needs but are also exposed to an hostile environment that
holds numerous temptations and does not provide positive motivation (McConville Ong, 2003). In
addition, because schools are distributed geographically, children from high poverty neighborhoods
attend the same schools and this result in low performance. This concentration also intensify the shift
of the middle and higher income families away from these neighborhoods thus creating a gap between
social needs and the financial base necessary to address these issues. The concentration of poverty is
important because it has an impact on the distribution of income which might undermines the social
fabric and may restrict opportunities for others (Jargowsky, 2003).
There are arguments that individuals may benefit from living in poor neighborhoods. This is because
they are able to share coping strategies as well as well as benefit from geographically based networks
that provide support to people living in poor neighborhoods. The coping strategies employed include
reducing expenses,

The Music Video For Worth It By The Artist Fifth Harmony...
In the Western World, men are often viewed as more valuable and capable than their female
counterparts; the girl group Fifth Harmony is fighting back on that view. In early 2015, the all female
group of five young adults released the final single from their debut album (Billboard). Fifth Harmony
had yet to have success in mainstream music and were vying for success on the charts. The song they
released was entitled Worth It and it is a traditionally catchy pop song, but the complimenting music
video is far from traditional. The music video for Worth It by the artist Fifth Harmony illustrates
women in stereotypical male jobs in a purposely shocking way to point out institutionalized gender
discrimination.
The video opens with scenes from a large urban city, before flashing to a NASDAQ style stock board
featuring the phrase: Women in power. The stock board appears constantly throughout the remainder
of the video behind the women, as the words and numbers change to include phrases such as glass
ceiling and feminism. The women of Fifth Harmony are first shown in the music video confidently
strutting in business suits and high heels. It should be noted men are in the back of several frames,
keeping the females in the forefront of the video. As the video progresses, there are scenes depicting
men in stereotypical female jobs such as assistant and secretarial positions, and men working for
women in other positions such as drivers appear. One of the most prominent visuals of

Hedda Gabler
The play Hedda Gabler, written by Henrik Ibsen, discusses the journey of the protagonist Hedda
Tesman, formerly known as Hedda Gabler, in her descent to suicide. The story leads her to feel
entrapped by a misery that surrounds her life and leads her to feel that death is her only escape. While
a traditional reading of the play is that Hedda is a victim of society, a modern interpretation is that
Hedda is much more a victim of herself: her dislike of motherhood, her self insecurities and her
flirtatious behaviour, with the constrictive time period and setting only accentuating these faults.
Overall Ibsen aims to show the audience the difficulties that face those in society who fail to fit into
social roles and expectations, discussing whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst women of this era were expected to raise children, Hedda demonstrates an inability to sustain
such maternal feelings, causing her to view herself as separated from society. This is illustrated in
Ibsen s use of diction in the title, naming the play Hedda Gabler rather than Hedda Tesman to suggest
that Hedda is unable to conform to such traditional customs as taking her husband s name. This is
perpetuated through Tesman s constant hints at pregnancy. In this, it is shown how Tesman believes
Hedda to be pregnant, saying how Hedda has filled out on the journey . Ibsen s use of metaphor in
Tesman s comment emphasises how, at even the suggestion of pregnancy, Hedda becomes derisive, as
she replies Oh, do be quiet ! Likewise, Ibsen uses the foil of Miss Tesman to emphasise Hedda s
isolation. Miss Tesman is seen to be excited at the suggestion of Hedda s perceived pregnancy,
highlighting the unusual nature of Hedda s displeasure. Her dislike of the prospect of motherhood
causes Hedda to experience a sense of isolation and exclusion from those around her. This societal
isolation is presented to the audience through Ibsen s use of physical description. Mrs. Elvsted s hair,
being described as unusually abundant becomes symbolic of one s ability to fit into society. She is
characterised as beautiful , stupid and an ideal women of the period. In comparison, Hedda s hair,
described as not particularly abundant , illustrates her inability to conform. Yet it can be seen that
Hedda hopes to conform to society and thus suggesting that her anguish is as a result of her separation
from society, a situation that can be attributed to her character faults, rather than the constraints of
society itself. This is demonstrated through Ibsen s use of backstory which illustrates Hedda s life long
obsession with Mrs. Elvsted s

extensive disillusionment of temporary co operation between members of different social classes and

The Method Of Recruiting Has Changed Over Time
The method of recruiting has significantly changed over time. Today, there is less reading through
stacks of resumes and more interacting with potential employees on a casual and formal basis. The
method of job recruiting can include many different channels and practices. These methods can
consist of practices such as attending job fairs, promoting from within, online and college recruiting,
and referrals. Most recruiting methods are face to face interactions between the employer and potential
employee. This gives the employers a chance to see the candidate in person, how they present
themselves, and what they can bring to their company. Although there are many different methods of
recruiting, these practices can be separated into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another disadvantage is that if you promote from within, you have to fill the position of the person
you promoted, so in a sense you are back to square one (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Although this
route may seem easier, cheaper, and less time consuming, it may not be the most ideal route to take.
On the other hand, you have external recruiting which is the process of engaging individuals from the
labor market outside of the firm to apply for a job (Lussier and Hendon, 172). Some examples of
external recruiting would be using advertisements in newspapers, online job websites, career fairs, and
referrals from current employees that would help fulfill any open positions (Applegate). If a company
is going to promote themselves at a career fair it is important that they prepare in advance. The
company must advertise! As obvious as this may seem, some companies do not advertise because they
mainly rely on word of mouth. Some good advertising techniques would be to post flyers around local
campuses, add a section in the newspaper, advertise on the radio, and use social media platforms. The
company could also work with universities to send out an email blast to all of the students letting them
know about the career fair so that it draws more potential employees in ( Effective Career Fair
Recruiting ). Being a student at Lewis University, lately I have been seeing signs around campus about

Dbq Italian Cantata
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: CANTATA In the Seventeenth century a new style of composition
had its origin in Rome, Italy. This style is known as the cantata da camera or secular cantata. The
study of the cantata shows that there were some problems which remained and could not be solved
due to the huge numbers of compositions during the baroque era. Vocal chamber music performed in
private for the wealthy at their houses, became the most common or popular social entertainment way
of the moment. The performing group for this entertainment was cooperated by one, two or three
voices accompanied by the basso continuo (which was rarely a pair of solo strings). Something that

The EFA plan for 2004 to 2015 is now on. The National Project on Street Children provides
educational assistance to street children through a network of government, non government, and
community organizations. Regardless of this progress, two major challenges remain, formal and non
formal schools need to adjust their educational system to cater to children with irregular schedules and
learning capacities, and facilities need to be closer to where disadvantaged children reside and work.
UNCHS (2000) 4 : There are two groups of street children. The first group is Children of the street ,
which refers to children who are homeless, and streets in urban areas are their source of livelihood,

occasionally on the streets.

One of the earliest uses of non biological materials within the body was the wooden toe prosthetic in

biomaterials was recognized a lot of conspicuously in 1960 to 1970. Throughout this time period
biomaterial research encompassed all materials designed to be used within the body. These materials
were designed to achieve an acceptable combination of physical properties to match those of the

the moving fluid and the pipe walls, leading to resistance to flow. In nanoscale geometries, molecular
forces will build it such that fluids can slip past the pipe walls without significant resistance. This may
be used to lower the pressure drop across filtration devices.

Abstract
Marine oil pollution, caused by discharges from ships, and leakages from oil platforms and oil tanker
accidents, is a major threat to fragile marine and coastal ecosystems and it is a subject of increasing
public concern.
Airborne and space borne radars are used as an effective option for operational oil spill detection.
Remote sensing in microwave band has definite advantage over other techniques and microwave
sensors are proved to be useful tool for detecting hydrocarbon spillages and becoming the most
commonly used sensors for oil spill remote sensing.

The overall effect of the song, Hello, by Adele is effective in communicating the message of the song.

A Short Note On Rocket Engine Combustion Instability
Rocket Engine Combustion Instability
Naveen Penmetsa
University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, 80309
C ombustion instability has long been an area of research in the design of both aircraft and rocket
engines. Specifically in terms of rocket engines, combustion instabilities occur in every type of engine
including solid rocket motors, cryogenic engines, hyperbolic engines, and hydrocarbon engines.
Although combustion oscillations tends to exist in almost every engine, the goal is to minimize these
variations in combustion such that any pressure oscillations are below the ambient noise of the engine
itself. In order to reduce the linear and nonlinear coupling that causes these instabilities, it is important
to identify not only the types of oscillations that occur but also the causes for each of these
oscillations.
In liquid engines there are three main types of instabilities. These are chugging oscillations which are
low frequency, buzzing oscillations which are of an intermediate frequency, and screeching which is a
high frequency oscillation. Additionally, instabilities can oscillate in three different direction, due to
the three dimensional nature of combustion. These directions are longitudinally, radially, and
transversely.
Flow States Effect on Liquid Engine Combustion Instability

The various forms of combustion instability in liquid rocket engines are directly and indirectly

Comparing Two Art Styles
In the study of the Humanities one can find a vast list of the different styles and periods of artwork.
The dilemma comes in when taking two different artist with different styles from different time
periods and comparing and contrasting them. The ability to contrast would be facile, but the truth
hides behind the ability to compare such divergent artwork. Artwork that one may look at first glance

Poussin and Toulouse Lautrec s pieces of artwork can be considered different at first sight, looking
more in depth into both pieces one will be able to find several contrasts and comparisons. The
different styles and time periods can not take away from the parallel that both pieces posess. These
artists have a dissimilar style and outlook on women partly due to the difference in era s.

Taking a Look at Surrogate Mothers
Surrogacy is a controversial issue nowadays. Surrogacy allows a woman to give the gift of parenthood
to a couple who would otherwise not have been able to experience it, either due to infertility or
inability to adopt a child. In some cases, the surrogate can obtain monetary compensation for her
services. According to Anderson (1990), A commercial surrogate mother is someone who is paid
money to bear a child for other people and to terminate her parental rights, to lead to a situation that
the others may raise the child as exclusively their own.
In the aspect of the intended parents, there are reasons for people who need the surrogacy service.
Firstly, Intended mothers can have a huge variety of health issues that make pregnancy impossible or
undesirable. For instance, some women s womb cannot support a fetus that they may miscarry for
many times that cannot get pregnant successfully. Secondly, there are also women that have biological
problems which affect their ability to reproduce. The reproductive system is complex and can cause
various ailments which make pregnancy impossible. Thirdly, some women may turn to surrogate
mothers because of severe health problems. While the woman may be healthy enough to be an
effective mother, her body may be unable to survive pregnancy. For example, some women would
choose to use a surrogate mother because they have heart problems which may cause the mother to be
unable to survive in a traditional child birth. There are also women that

Socially Engaged Arts, Or Sea Essay
Socially Engaged Art. Definition. There exists a cornucopia of terminology when it comes to activism
realized through the arts. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the method of
engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based art ; etc.
(Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used interchangeably, for the
sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst
aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a commitment to create art that
draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to intervene in systems of inequality or
injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis on the artist who is committed to engaging
contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent necessity to use the power of art...to make
visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for
creating arts, the other half being the audience participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges,
the two main strategies for presenting SEA to audiences are targeting powerful organizations and
constituents, or powerless organizations and constituents (p. 539). Platt s vision of the lone artist is
better utilized for global exposure with powerful audiences to react to injustices made visible,
however this paper will focus primarily on engaging audiences who are marginalized.

Equiano s Borderlands
Often we consider racial disparities as a fixed and instantaneous issue, rooted in a single layer of time:
either it is thought of as an occurrence of the past and no longer relevant, or a contemporary uprising
whose ancient sources, which continue to reincarnate, are disregarded. In fact, the racial suppression
of marginalized groups is a continuous and ever evolving structure, its white dominated pillars rigidly
maintained throughout history, while the means by which minority communities are disparaged and
how race itself is perceived continues to mutate. In the memoir of abolitionist Olaudah Equiano, he
describes the enormous cruelties committed by white slave traders on captured Africans during the
eighteenth century transatlantic slave trade, which still flourished as he penned his 1784 narrative
(Equiano, 5). While Equiano seeks to characterize the innocence and humanity of his African brethren
and therefore justify the unethical nature of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

obsession with language subtleties by pointing out the manifestation of not only interracial hostilities

Prayer In Schools Research Paper
In 1960 Madalyn Murray O Hair sued Baltimore public schools for requiring students to read the
Bible and to recite the Lord s prayer. At this time in history reciting prayers and reading the Bible
were common in schools across the nation. Children could be excused from this exercise if they were
equipped with a note from their parents. Instead of O Hair following this procedure she believed that
this exercise violated the First Amendment rights. The case ended up making it to the Supreme Court
where is was joined with a similar case. In 1963, the court ruled in favor of O Hair with an eight to
one vote. The Supreme Court decision ended prayer and prayer recitation in schools. To this day this
court decision has caused much controversy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biggest motive behind banning is the separation of church and state. Separation of church and
state is the distance between religion and the nation state. This is hard concept to find a concept to find
a fine line between church and state. This can be resolved by keeping everything completely separate.
All church related stuff stays within church or home and all state stuff is elsewhere. Prayer within ones
self is not banned so there is no need for mandatory prayer especially if there are students who choose
not to pray. They would be singled out due to not participating which is not fair for them. Prayer
within public schools could potentially lead to intolerance due to religious difference amongst the
students that were unaware. This could again also lead to singling out student also known as
ostracized. Public schools were created for all students and are funded by all taxpayers. With that
being said it only makes sense and is right for the school to stay neutral due to the difference in
religious beliefs between students and taxpayers. Banning school prayer has prevented many conflicts
of within the school system because of different religious

Abuse And Neglect In Toni Morrison s Pecola
Pecola is first introduced as a foster child coming to live with McTeer family after her father burned
down the Breedlove house. She arrives with nothing but the clothes on her back, exhibiting a shy
demeanor. The effects of years of abuse and neglect are immediately evident through her interactions
with Claudia and Frieda. She is compliant with whatever they do, trying her best not to draw attention
to herself: When we discovered that she clearly did not want to dominate us, we liked her. She
laughed when I clowned for her, and smiled and gracefully accepted the food gifts my sister gave her
(Morrison 19). As the three girls stay together, Pecola s insecurities are unveiled. She is aware that
others dub her as ugly , and believes she is

Isabelle Bruce Reid Research Paper
MY HERO
A hero is someone who is admired and valued for their courage, outstanding achievements, and noble
qualities. A hero to one person may not be a hero to another. I strongly agree with this definition for a
hero to a person is not always a hero to others. In saying this, my hero is Isabelle Bruce Reid because
she was the first female to qualify in Australia as a veterinarian. To me, Isabelle Reid was a name in
history who changed the world, is valued and is a great role model.
Firstly, Isabelle Bruce Reid is my hero because she changed the world for me and others, like you. I
have a strong belief of this as if she had not become the first female veterinarian, then, today it may
have been equally as difficult for others to become a vet as it was for her. If she can achieve it, then
anyone who aspires to do something, can do it as well. I believe this message is incredibly
worthwhile. As a result of it saying that anyone can do anything, it doesn t matter if you re a male of a
female, or if you have a different skin colour or nationality. I admire her amazing accomplishments as
she made the world a fair place. What would it be like without her? ... Show more content on

I feel as if Isabelle Reid has inspired me to do my best. Nonetheless, Isabelle Reid strived to achieve
her best and therefore, should inspire others to do their best as she had done. For example, passing the
exam in which nobody else passed. Isabelle Reid is valued for her accomplishments and her names is
a part of history. She accomplished something nobody else had at the time, becoming the first female

Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer
Robert B. Reich, Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer Reich starts his exordium
with a distribution of where American workers found themselves in the early 1990 s in reference to
where almost all American workers were just 20 years before. Reich placed most of the workers that
contributed to the economy during the Nixon administration as being in one boat, analogous to the
famous quote by G.K. Chesterton, We are all in the same boat, in a stormy sea, and we owe each other
a terrible loyalty. Under Reich s distribution you were still in a lifeboat, but the sea state and your
future could be rough or smooth sailing depending upon your chosen profession. To which boat one
found his or her self was directly related to how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reich also uses a form and substance argument about occupants of the second boat, in that as
demographics change as the decline in the birth rate after the baby boom would propagate through and
generate opportunities for older in person servers that would not otherwise be available to them, he
then accurately predicts the situation current Americans find themselves, the increasing numbers of
elderly people will

Taking a Look Inside Hallucinogens Essay
Hallucinogens: a general group of pharmacological agents that can be divided into three broad
categories: psychedelics, dissociatives, and deliriants. Hallucinogenic drugs have played a role in
civilization for thousands of year. It began with naturally occurring hallucinogens, such as the peyote
cactus plant and wild mushrooms. Now there are man made drugs that have the same or more intense
affects. These include lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), MDMA (ecstasy), and dextromethorphan
(DMX, often found in cough syrup). Within this essay, I will cover the history, production, and affects
of hallucinogenic drugs. Peyote, a naturally produced plant, has been used as a hallucinogen since as
early as 200 AD. It was originally used in Native ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long term affects for hallucinogens can vary. With LSD, it is believed that trips can trigger the onset
of schizophrenia or other psychological disorders. Users can also experience flashbacks, happening as
long as a year later than the original trip. The flashbacks sometimes persist, affecting the users social
and occupational life. This is known as hallucinogen induced persisting perceptual disorder. LSD is
not considered an addictive drug, since most users voluntarily stop use over time, and it does not
produce compulsive, drug seeking behavior. But, LSD does produce tolerance. After using the drug
only a few times, users must take increasingly higher doses to reach the same high. This is very
dangerous, given the drugs unpredictability. Let s talk specifics: LSD. Lysergic acid diethylamide was
first synthesized by Albert Hofman in Switzerland, 1938. He didn t originally find anything interesting
about the substance, but changed his mind about it a few years later. In 1943, Hofman accidently
ingested the substance and discovered its potency. Rewind nine years: Albert Hofman has just finished
the experiments for his doctoral degree, at the age of 23. He began work as a natural products chemist
in Basel. He worked on ergot alkaloids, substances produced by the ergot fungus that infects grain.
These substances occur naturally, making studying them less expensive. Ergot extracts had been used
for hundreds of years by midwifes to stop

Grapevine Faith Classroom
An individual s equitable right to their protection of privacy is fundamental as it upholds respect,
maintains appropriate social boundaries, and guarantees their freedom of growth as an entity. The
ability to affirm one s necessity of privacy is imperative to the development of who they are, and how
they form an identity that is not dictated by the social conditions that directly or indirectly influence
their thinking, decisions, and behaviors. The abuse of personal privacy causes for a disturbance of
success as an independent human being. The recurring concern of making privacy a priority at
Grapevine Faith Christian School seemingly appears to be insufficient in meeting the requirements of
students and faculty. The Grapevine Faith campus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This plan is not only ludicrous but ill advised as well. After some enlightening research, the price per
stall is roughly $890. This puts the total cost of new and advanced stalls at an arbitrary total of an
estimated $22,250. Due to the fact that the school s maximum price for renovations with this project is
understandably $10,000, for that reason and more, this solution simply fails miserably to succeed.
Grapevine Faith currently uses Latch and Keeper, Surface Mounted locks, and they sell at $24 a piece
at All Partition and Parts. This price is impractical because with the installation of new stalls, comes
new locks, and although tradition is usually a positive notion, this schools needs locks that will sustain
long term and provide the privacy that every member of Grapevine Faith deserves. Replacing the
stalls completely would consist of the execution of the current stalls, the inconvenience of not having
bathrooms during the upgrade, the dollar amount that is not within the budget, and the idea of
absolutely unnecessary time and effort being put into this project that has an easier

Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in Saint Paul Minnesota. He was named Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald after his distant cousin Francis Scott Key who wrote the Star Spangled Banner. Being named after a famous American would foreshadow his life becoming a true representation of what it means to be patriotic, and live in the American Dream, especially in the 1920 s. His life would later be said to be strongly patriotic, though not the flag waving patriotic (Bruccoli.) F. Platelets release copious inflammatory mediators that have no known role in hemostasis. Several of these mediators modify leukocyte and endothelial responses to a variety of diverse inflammatory stimuli. Additionally, platelets form a bond with leukocytes and form conduits between leukocytes and endothelium, largely mediated by platelet P selectin. Through their collaboration with monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes and the endothelium, platelets are therefore essential controllers of inflammation and both innate and adaptive immune responses. Idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) is clinically diagnosed through a thorough medical history including a physical examination, complete blood count (CBC), and peripheral blood smear examination. (Blackwell, J., Goolsby, M. J. (2003)). Upon examination of laboratory results, prolonged bleeding time and a platelet count of less than 20,000/mm3 may suggest that one has ITP. Furthermore examination of platelets under a microscope show cells to be small and immature in appearance. Typically platelets have a lifespan of seven to ten days, but the immature platelets cells seen under the microscope may only survive for a few hours. Anemia is another complication that can result from the loss of blood, given that the person has a bleeding episode. (Williams, L. S., Hopper, P. D. (2015, p. 573 574). Even though this baby did not have any notion of what was going on, she was still a victim of Chinese norms. This baby also became forgotten being that she was not given the opportunity to be alive. Kingston s aunt decision of killing the baby, had to do greatly with the fact that she was girl. As the book states it was probably a girl; there is some hope for forgiveness for boys . However, Jeremy Corbyn s economic project has been concentrated around nationalisation. One of Corbyn s arguments has been that, national ownership of particular businesses can, promote long term development of the economy, help to acquire a renovating infrastructure and also provide a quality health and social care system. Furthermore, with the use of examples from around the world, Corbyn attempts to illustrate that the state is an ineffective manager, and also indicate the positive contributions of national ownership. Furthermore, in the UK, national state ownership has previously been too centralised, with authority in the hands of a private and commercial elite, which promotes Adam Smith s ideology. This is portrayed when he said, Avarice overrates the difference between poverty and riches: ambition, that between a private and a public station... , demonstrating that entrepreneurs drive economies and that their profits are a reward for their own risk, with this being the Just World theory. • 15. Lab Report On Colligative Properties Lillian Guttery Matt Chem 1315 011 6/25/2017 Lab 11: Keep It Liquid Introduction The purpose of this lab was to study colligative properties. These properties are properties that are affected when a solute is added to a solvent. Thus, the amount is important, not the actual type of substance, for the colligative properties. A couple types of this property are the freezing point and boiling point of a substance. (1) The specific property observed in this lab was the freezing point depression caused by the additives. This is the change in the freezing point between a standard solvent and said solvent with added solutes. This changes the entropy of the system, making the properties change somewhat, lowering the freezing point itself with the addition of more solute. Hence, the term freezing point depression . A similar effect leads me to my hypothesis. Boiling point elevation is, like freezing point depression, a colligative property. When cooking something on a stove at higher elevations, salt (a solute) is added to the water in order to enable the water to go to higher temperatures without boiling. The more salt is added, the higher the temperature is able to go. Knowing this, it makes sense that the largest amount of solute will lower the temperature of our chosen solvent, tert butanol, the most. Method As stated, our solvent in this lab will be tert butanol. We start by recording the freezing point of this substance without anything added. Then, we add various ... This act gave the Britain s East India Company (shipper) the right to transport tea directly into the Colony without paying any of the regular taxes that were imposed on Colonial merchants. The dumping the tea into the colony allowed the shipper to undercut the American merchants and monopolize the tea trade (Brinkley 101). The consequence of this policy instigated further resentment towards the Crown and added to the belief that it was not appropriately represented by their government. In reducing the tax burden, leaving only the taxes on tea, leadership assumed the shift would be welcomed. In reality, Parliament had lost touch with its citizens. This quote is when Mr. Goodman s car starts out of nowhere and now They are are pointing out all of his flaws He was always an oddball. Him and his whole family. Real oddballs, (Serling pg.7). This quote helps the reader understand that the people that are always too quick to assume are the people that have something to hide and that they find every little action that could well end up tying to why the aliens piloted over head. Now they are pointing out that Les Goodman is an oddball and that he now must have something to do with the dilemma. Another piece of evidence that shows that prejudice is a literal weapon in humanity is when Pete Van Horn is shot and is now dead. (Serling pg.13) A figure suddenly materializes in the gloom and silence... Charlie pulls the trigger the sound of it explodes in the stillness... (holding the dead mans crushed glasses) it s Pete Van Horn! This piece of evidence from the text states how Charlie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. What the Two Proposals in Pride and Prejudice Reveal... Pride and Prejudice is a novel fixated on marriage: throughout, all the action occurs within scenes devoted to either the talk of marriage or actual proposals. This cannot be expounded more than within the very first line: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife . Here, at the beginning of the novel, a definite, though somewhat sarcastic, statement introduces the main theme of the novel marriage and, possibly more importantly, not love. The stark divide between love and marriage shown right the way through cannot be comprehended fully by the twenty first century reader: in today s society marriage and love are mutually exclusive you very rarely get one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the reason both proposals are declined: Elizabeth is of a mind that she will not marry for social security or for money only love could tempt her into matrimony. The first proposal is from Mr Collins, a man to whom Elizabeth was not even his first choice; Jane, the eldest and most beautiful, was his first fancy, but when informed that she had been privately engaged, he swiftly switches to Elizabeth, who is equally next to Jane in birth and beauty . His introduction to Elizabeth is not a pleasant one, although he is too ignorant to notice; she finds him a conceited, pompous, narrow minded, silly man . Her observation is quite correct, and illustrated to the greatest affect in his proposal speech. Collins does not seem to possess his own conception of love: he intends to get married merely because it is the particular advice and recommendation of Lady Catherine de Bourgh, his patron and first love . He even goes so far as to explain this to Elizabeth within his proposal; Mr Collins you must marry, Chuse...a gentle woman for my [Lady Catherine s] sake , showing his complete inaptitude to understand the feelings of others. No mutual acquaintance and love between each other was needed. Marriage, to Collins, was only a right thing for every clergyman in easy circumstances . • 22. The Concentration Of Poverty And Poverty Some problems associated with living in a neighborhood with a high percentage of the population living in poverty include increased crime rates, poor education, health problems and psychological distress. The concentration of people in high poverty neighborhoods magnifies the problems faced by the poor. This is because it leads to the concentration of the ills associated with poverty. Children in these neighborhood do not only lack basic needs but are also exposed to an hostile environment that holds numerous temptations and does not provide positive motivation (McConville Ong, 2003). In addition, because schools are distributed geographically, children from high poverty neighborhoods attend the same schools and this result in low performance. This concentration also intensify the shift of the middle and higher income families away from these neighborhoods thus creating a gap between social needs and the financial base necessary to address these issues. The concentration of poverty is important because it has an impact on the distribution of income which might undermines the social fabric and may restrict opportunities for others (Jargowsky, 2003). There are arguments that individuals may benefit from living in poor neighborhoods. This is because they are able to share coping strategies as well as well as benefit from geographically based networks that provide support to people living in poor neighborhoods. The coping strategies employed include reducing expenses, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Music Video For Worth It By The Artist Fifth Harmony... In the Western World, men are often viewed as more valuable and capable than their female counterparts; the girl group Fifth Harmony is fighting back on that view. In early 2015, the all female group of five young adults released the final single from their debut album (Billboard). Fifth Harmony had yet to have success in mainstream music and were vying for success on the charts. The song they released was entitled Worth It and it is a traditionally catchy pop song, but the complimenting music video is far from traditional. The music video for Worth It by the artist Fifth Harmony illustrates women in stereotypical male jobs in a purposely shocking way to point out institutionalized gender discrimination. The video opens with scenes from a large urban city, before flashing to a NASDAQ style stock board featuring the phrase: Women in power. The stock board appears constantly throughout the remainder of the video behind the women, as the words and numbers change to include phrases such as glass ceiling and feminism. The women of Fifth Harmony are first shown in the music video confidently strutting in business suits and high heels. It should be noted men are in the back of several frames, keeping the females in the forefront of the video. As the video progresses, there are scenes depicting men in stereotypical female jobs such as assistant and secretarial positions, and men working for women in other positions such as drivers appear. • 24. Hedda Gabler The play Hedda Gabler, written by Henrik Ibsen, discusses the journey of the protagonist Hedda Tesman, formerly known as Hedda Gabler, in her descent to suicide. The story leads her to feel entrapped by a misery that surrounds her life and leads her to feel that death is her only escape. While a traditional reading of the play is that Hedda is a victim of society, a modern interpretation is that Hedda is much more a victim of herself: her dislike of motherhood, her self insecurities and her flirtatious behaviour, with the constrictive time period and setting only accentuating these faults. Overall Ibsen aims to show the audience the difficulties that face those in society who fail to fit into social roles and expectations, discussing whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whilst women of this era were expected to raise children, Hedda demonstrates an inability to sustain such maternal feelings, causing her to view herself as separated from society. This is illustrated in Ibsen s use of diction in the title, naming the play Hedda Gabler rather than Hedda Tesman to suggest that Hedda is unable to conform to such traditional customs as taking her husband s name. This is perpetuated through Tesman s constant hints at pregnancy. In this, it is shown how Tesman believes Hedda to be pregnant, saying how Hedda has filled out on the journey . Ibsen s use of metaphor in Tesman s comment emphasises how, at even the suggestion of pregnancy, Hedda becomes derisive, as she replies Oh, do be quiet ! Likewise, Ibsen uses the foil of Miss Tesman to emphasise Hedda s isolation. Miss Tesman is seen to be excited at the suggestion of Hedda s perceived pregnancy, highlighting the unusual nature of Hedda s displeasure. Her dislike of the prospect of motherhood causes Hedda to experience a sense of isolation and exclusion from those around her. This societal isolation is presented to the audience through Ibsen s use of physical description. Mrs. Elvsted s hair, being described as unusually abundant becomes symbolic of one s ability to fit into society. She is characterised as beautiful , stupid and an ideal women of the period. In comparison, Hedda s hair, described as not particularly abundant , illustrates her inability to conform. Yet it can be seen that Hedda hopes to conform to society and thus suggesting that her anguish is as a result of her separation from society, a situation that can be attributed to her character faults, rather than the constraints of society itself. This is demonstrated through Ibsen s use of backstory which illustrates Hedda s life long obsession with Mrs. Elvsted s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. A Short Note On Rocket Engine Combustion Instability Rocket Engine Combustion Instability Naveen Penmetsa University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, 80309 C ombustion instability has long been an area of research in the design of both aircraft and rocket engines. Specifically in terms of rocket engines, combustion instabilities occur in every type of engine including solid rocket motors, cryogenic engines, hyperbolic engines, and hydrocarbon engines. Although combustion oscillations tends to exist in almost every engine, the goal is to minimize these variations in combustion such that any pressure oscillations are below the ambient noise of the engine itself. In order to reduce the linear and nonlinear coupling that causes these instabilities, it is important to identify not only the types of oscillations that occur but also the causes for each of these oscillations. In liquid engines there are three main types of instabilities. These are chugging oscillations which are low frequency, buzzing oscillations which are of an intermediate frequency, and screeching which is a high frequency oscillation. Additionally, instabilities can oscillate in three different direction, due to the three dimensional nature of combustion. These directions are longitudinally, radially, and transversely. Surrogacy allows a woman to give the gift of parenthood to a couple who would otherwise not have been able to experience it, either due to infertility or inability to adopt a child. According to Anderson (1990), A commercial surrogate mother is someone who is paid money to bear a child for other people and to terminate her parental rights, to lead to a situation that the others may raise the child as exclusively their own. In the aspect of the intended parents, there are reasons for people who need the surrogacy service. Firstly, Intended mothers can have a huge variety of health issues that make pregnancy impossible or undesirable. For instance, some women s womb cannot support a fetus that they may miscarry for many times that cannot get pregnant successfully. Secondly, there are also women that have biological problems which affect their ability to reproduce. The reproductive system is complex and can cause various ailments which make pregnancy impossible. Thirdly, some women may turn to surrogate mothers because of severe health problems. While the woman may be healthy enough to be an effective mother, her body may be unable to survive pregnancy. Among them are: social practice (which circumvents the method of engagement); socially engaged art ; arts activism ; social justice art ; community based art ; etc. (Dewhurst, 2010; Helguera, 2011). Although many of these terms can be used interchangeably, for the sake of consistency this paper will refer to this practice as socially engaged arts, or SEA. As Dewhurst aptly outlines, Despite these various names, this work often shares a commitment to create art that draws attention to, mobilizes action towards, or attempts to intervene in systems of inequality or injustice (2010, p.1). Platt (2010) places singular emphasis on the artist who is committed to engaging contemporary political issues...convinced of the urgent necessity to use the power of art...to make visible what is kept invisible... (p. xiv). The work of the participants of SEA is one half to a whole for creating arts, the other half being the audience participation and feedback. As Shank (2004) alleges, the two main strategies for presenting SEA to audiences are targeting powerful organizations and constituents, or powerless organizations and constituents (p. 539). • 44. Prayer In Schools Research Paper In 1960 Madalyn Murray O Hair sued Baltimore public schools for requiring students to read the Bible and to recite the Lord s prayer. At this time in history reciting prayers and reading the Bible were common in schools across the nation. Children could be excused from this exercise if they were equipped with a note from their parents. Instead of O Hair following this procedure she believed that this exercise violated the First Amendment rights. The case ended up making it to the Supreme Court where is was joined with a similar case. In 1963, the court ruled in favor of O Hair with an eight to one vote. The Supreme Court decision ended prayer and prayer recitation in schools. To this day this court decision has caused much controversy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The biggest motive behind banning is the separation of church and state. Separation of church and state is the distance between religion and the nation state. This is hard concept to find a concept to find a fine line between church and state. This can be resolved by keeping everything completely separate. All church related stuff stays within church or home and all state stuff is elsewhere. Prayer within ones self is not banned so there is no need for mandatory prayer especially if there are students who choose not to pray. They would be singled out due to not participating which is not fair for them. Prayer within public schools could potentially lead to intolerance due to religious difference amongst the students that were unaware. This could again also lead to singling out student also known as ostracized. Public schools were created for all students and are funded by all taxpayers. With that being said it only makes sense and is right for the school to stay neutral due to the difference in religious beliefs between students and taxpayers. Banning school prayer has prevented many conflicts of within the school system because of different religious ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Abuse And Neglect In Toni Morrison s Pecola Pecola is first introduced as a foster child coming to live with McTeer family after her father burned down the Breedlove house. She arrives with nothing but the clothes on her back, exhibiting a shy demeanor. The effects of years of abuse and neglect are immediately evident through her interactions with Claudia and Frieda. She is compliant with whatever they do, trying her best not to draw attention to herself: When we discovered that she clearly did not want to dominate us, we liked her. She laughed when I clowned for her, and smiled and gracefully accepted the food gifts my sister gave her (Morrison 19). As the three girls stay together, Pecola s insecurities are unveiled. • 46. Isabelle Bruce Reid Research Paper MY HERO A hero is someone who is admired and valued for their courage, outstanding achievements, and noble qualities. A hero to one person may not be a hero to another. I strongly agree with this definition for a hero to a person is not always a hero to others. In saying this, my hero is Isabelle Bruce Reid because she was the first female to qualify in Australia as a veterinarian. To me, Isabelle Reid was a name in history who changed the world, is valued and is a great role model. Firstly, Isabelle Bruce Reid is my hero because she changed the world for me and others, like you. I have a strong belief of this as if she had not become the first female veterinarian, then, today it may have been equally as difficult for others to become a vet as it was for her. If she can achieve it, then anyone who aspires to do something, can do it as well. I believe this message is incredibly worthwhile. As a result of it saying that anyone can do anything, it doesn t matter if you re a male of a female, or if you have a different skin colour or nationality. I admire her amazing accomplishments as she made the world a fair place. What would it be like without her? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer Robert B. Reich, Why the Rich Are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer Reich starts his exordium with a distribution of where American workers found themselves in the early 1990 s in reference to where almost all American workers were just 20 years before. Reich placed most of the workers that contributed to the economy during the Nixon administration as being in one boat, analogous to the famous quote by G.K. Chesterton, We are all in the same boat, in a stormy sea, and we owe each other a terrible loyalty. Under Reich s distribution you were still in a lifeboat, but the sea state and your future could be rough or smooth sailing depending upon your chosen profession. To which boat one found his or her self was directly related to how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reich also uses a form and substance argument about occupants of the second boat, in that as demographics change as the decline in the birth rate after the baby boom would propagate through and generate opportunities for older in person servers that would not otherwise be available to them, he then accurately predicts the situation current Americans find themselves, the increasing numbers of elderly people will ... • 48. Taking a Look Inside Hallucinogens Essay Hallucinogens: a general group of pharmacological agents that can be divided into three broad categories: psychedelics, dissociatives, and deliriants. Hallucinogenic drugs have played a role in civilization for thousands of year. It began with naturally occurring hallucinogens, such as the peyote cactus plant and wild mushrooms. Now there are man made drugs that have the same or more intense affects. These include lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), MDMA (ecstasy), and dextromethorphan (DMX, often found in cough syrup). Within this essay, I will cover the history, production, and affects of hallucinogenic drugs. Peyote, a naturally produced plant, has been used as a hallucinogen since as early as 200 AD. It was originally used in Native ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Long term affects for hallucinogens can vary. With LSD, it is believed that trips can trigger the onset of schizophrenia or other psychological disorders. Users can also experience flashbacks, happening as long as a year later than the original trip. The flashbacks sometimes persist, affecting the users social and occupational life. This is known as hallucinogen induced persisting perceptual disorder. LSD is not considered an addictive drug, since most users voluntarily stop use over time, and it does not produce compulsive, drug seeking behavior. But, LSD does produce tolerance. After using the drug only a few times, users must take increasingly higher doses to reach the same high. This is very dangerous, given the drugs unpredictability. Let s talk specifics: LSD. Lysergic acid diethylamide was first synthesized by Albert Hofman in Switzerland, 1938. He didn t originally find anything interesting about the substance, but changed his mind about it a few years later. In 1943, Hofman accidently ingested the substance and discovered its potency. Rewind nine years: Albert Hofman has just finished the experiments for his doctoral degree, at the age of 23. He began work as a natural products chemist in Basel. He worked on ergot alkaloids, substances produced by the ergot fungus that infects grain. These substances occur naturally, making studying them less expensive. • 49. Grapevine Faith Classroom An individual s equitable right to their protection of privacy is fundamental as it upholds respect, maintains appropriate social boundaries, and guarantees their freedom of growth as an entity. The ability to affirm one s necessity of privacy is imperative to the development of who they are, and how they form an identity that is not dictated by the social conditions that directly or indirectly influence their thinking, decisions, and behaviors. The abuse of personal privacy causes for a disturbance of success as an independent human being. The recurring concern of making privacy a priority at Grapevine Faith Christian School seemingly appears to be insufficient in meeting the requirements of students and faculty. The Grapevine Faith campus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This plan is not only ludicrous but ill advised as well. After some enlightening research, the price per stall is roughly $890. This puts the total cost of new and advanced stalls at an arbitrary total of an estimated $22,250. Due to the fact that the school s maximum price for renovations with this project is understandably $10,000, for that reason and more, this solution simply fails miserably to succeed. Grapevine Faith currently uses Latch and Keeper, Surface Mounted locks, and they sell at $24 a piece at All Partition and Parts. This price is impractical because with the installation of new stalls, comes new locks, and although tradition is usually a positive notion, this schools needs locks that will sustain long term and provide the privacy that every member of Grapevine Faith deserves. Replacing the stalls completely would consist of the execution of the current stalls, the inconvenience of not having bathrooms during the upgrade, the dollar amount that is not within the budget, and the idea of absolutely unnecessary time and effort being put into this project that has an easier ...
