Good And Evil In Mere Christianity By C. S. Lewis
In Mere Christianity Book Two, chapter one, C.S Lewis states that Christians do not have to
believe that all the other religions are wrong; we are free to think and see a different view that
contains some truth. Every religion includes at least right and wrong, but based on how people
view them, some people think that it was a right thing to do, but some other people might think that
it was wrong and terrible.(Lewis 2001, pg.35). Godis beyond good and evil our universe does not
exist if God does not exist because everything found in the world a piece of God. However, that is
not true, because God created our universe and us. Our universe contains good and evil which God
does not create evil and that is why we do not say everything in the world is a piece of God
because the world is full of goodness and badness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two big decisions in our life: first is to be with God and let him purify our soul, the
second allowed the devil be your mate, a mate who keep hurting you, making you blind and
miserable instead of giving God be the delivery, who delivers us from the devil and badness.
Good and evil are the widespread things we see in our life, even though they are different, but
there will be a good thing and bad thing in the universe that contains man action and
consequence. We would not be able to know if something is right unless we compare it to bad
things because if goodness does not exist man will never know what good is, never know of
fairness and unselfish or not even Christ doesn t live.(Lewis 2001, pg.37).

Outcome Based Practice
Outcome based practice, is defined by the Scottish Government as an outcomes based approach
encourages us all to focus on the differences that we make and not just the input or processes over
which we have control (Scottish Government 2011). In 2011, the English Government launched is
first framework of outcomes for adult healthand social care. Within this framework, they stated set
of outcomes measures which have been agreed to be of value, both nationally and locally for
demonstrating the achievements of adult social care . The Social Care Institute for Excellence

The Major Benefits Of The Education Of Music
Music plays an important role in our world, as the global dictionary of theology says, Music is a
part of everyday life. From heavy beats pounding in cars, to advertising jingles on radio (King), or
as Ruth Jorgensen says, music was a social phenomenon and examined some of the ways in which
groups form around particular beliefs and practices (Jorgensen). Musichas benefited the world in
many ways all throughout history, from the expression of love and devotion towards god in a
mass to the expressionism and individuality of jazz during the New Negro movement these are just
a few of the many ways music has impacted our world greatly. Carlos R. Abril, and Brent M. Gault
wrote in their journal research that some of the major benefits of the education of music consist of
the transmission of cultural ideas and beliefs, the development of a sensitivity to and appreciation
for the arts, and the opportunity to foster creativity, teamwork, and cooperation through
participation in music (Abril and Gault). It is our responsibility to see how music has improved us
as humans and it is our responsibility to raise our future generation with the understanding, love,
and creativity that comes with the teaching of music.
As Abril and Gault have said, one of the many benefits of musical education is the transmission of
cultural ideas (Abril and Gault). What they are pointing out is that through the education and
exposure of the culturally diverse music, we subject our children in the

Analysis of The Spectacular Spider-Man and The Fairly Odd...
Mass media is a microsystem that influence on a person s values, beliefs, attitudes, and behavior.
Mass media is a form of communication that is viewed by large audiences through medium such as
TV, newspaper, book, and internet. Television is the most influential form of media and the way it
has impacted on children s lives. The two children televisionshow that I will be discussing is The
Spectacular Spider Man and The Fairly OddParents. We will look at it content and the hidden
message that these two television show is conveying to young children.
In the Spectacular Spider Man, the episode Group Therapy show started out with the villains
trying to escape from prison and planning to take down Spider Man. Peter who is Spider Man is
wearing a black spider suit rather than his regular red spider suit to fight off the vicious villains.
The black spider suit has taken over his body and had fought with the villains the night before.
When he wakes up in the morning he felt his whole body aching but cannot remember why. Upon
from waking up, he read on the morning news paper that Spider Man has taken down the villain
last night. Even though he was the one fighting the villain he has no memory of the fight. The
episode end when one of Peter s co workers knocks at his door and let him knows that his
Grandma May is in the hospital because of a heart attack.
From watching the episode of Spectacular Spider Man I noticed that there was a lot of violent and
negative messages/treatment.

Humorous Love Story
Humor was always an interesting thing from his daughter. Very few expected the macabre from a
young girl such as her, but he knew his little angel was a skewed mind and he accepted it with
good grace. It was something he himself had, something that made him a little bit of an oddity
amongst the people that knew him. That was what made him such a good Father perhaps, the fact
that the social world seemed to be something that he would easily skip out on if it meant that he
would not have to deal with the world of humanity. The utter annoying grouping of the species. It
almost made him sneer sometimes as he looked at social media, Facebook postings, the utter
insanity that the world had come to represent. Nevertheless it let him dedicate the proper time to a
womanwho deserved it. Not a wife, not a fiancГ©e, and not a girlfriend.

If Beale Street Could Talk Essay
If Beale Street Could Talk You don t fight racism with racism, the best way to fight racism is
with solidarity Bobby Seale . If Beale Street Could Talk was written by James Baldwin and
published in June 17, 1974. The book is about a young couple having an unexpected child and
later the young lady tries to prove her fiance innocent of the crime he s being convicted of while
expecting their first child. One of the themes of the story is that the only way to fight injustices
is with love and solidarity. One example of the theme is when there is an incident at the
vegetable shop. In this event Tish is harassed by a White Italian. When Fonny sees what
happened he defends her and is almost arrested for it. That is when Officer BEll starts targeting
Fonny. Which will later prove costly. They got us in a trick bag baby but I just want you to bear
in my mind that they can make us lose each other by putting me in this shit. (142) This quote
shows that Fonny and Tish are very well aware of what they are going against. But they promise
themselves to be strong and not fall in the system s trap. In conclusion this was one of many
examples of the injustices Young African... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My ideas on this is that the way that the system is set up is just to mess with minorities. After
reading this I came to the conclusion that that s how it is set up because it is far less likely for a
White Family to go through this. Joseph becoming responsible shows the solidarity in the black
community. Listen, little girl we got to take care of each other in this world. Right? (160). This
quote shows how much they genuinely care for each other. He explains how if he could have the
baby for her he would. In conclusion this is another example of how much solidarity there was in
these families despite the struggles. It also shows how it helps to get through the difficult

Length Polymorphisms
Restriction enzymes recognize repeated or double stranded sequences in the DNA, which are also
known as palindromes (meaning that they read the same in opposite directions)
Polymorphisms are when one gene has multiple alleles and cause morphs in different organisms.
RFLP stands for Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms. RFLPs are used to distinguish
between people s DNA. This is because since the distance between the repeated palindromic
recognition sites vary from person to person, the amount of repeats within all the DNA differs too.
When the enzymes cut at these sites, it results in fragments of different size and length. Except for
identical twins, every person has a unique set of these fragments, so the RFLP can help to tell
people apart.
The RFLP banding pattern of each person is different because ... Show more content on

This is because when samples of DNA are obtained from the mother and father, the child s DNA
will be a composite (or a combination) of its parents. Also, the bands in the child s DNA
fingerprint that are not present in the mother s DNA is present in the father s DNA, so it can be
distinguished which parents created which child.
Procedure Questions:
Agarose is a polysaccharide that is used especially in gels for a process called electrophoresis. It
is used in DNA fingerprinting because it slows down the speed at which the DNA migrates from
the negative pole to the positive pole so that the process is easier to visualize and to gather results
from. In addition to this, the agarose also creates the actual gel that is being manipulated.
The percent of agarose gel used in the lab is .8%. The amount of agarose used makes a difference
in the fingerprinting procedure because since agarose gel is the environment around the polymers,
(aka the matrix) then the higher the percentage of agarose, the denser the matrix. Also, the denser
the matrix, the harder it is for the DNA to pass it when it travels to the positive

The Truman Show
1.The Truman Show included multiple scenes of people reading newspaper headlines. The
headlines had secret meanings to them that an unknown viewer would not notice.
Crackdown on Homeless: This headline appeared the day after the presumed homeless man
identified himself as Truman s father. After he did this, random people took him away. The intent
of the newspaper was to convince Truman that the person he encountered was a homeless man and
that SeaHaven is trying to get the homeless out.
Travelers Beware: After Truman decided that he wanted to travel to Fiji, he went to a traveling
agency to book a flight. While he was waiting for the agent, he looked over and saw the sign
headline. This sign wanted to heighten Truman s fear of travel.

Contradictory to the movie, the name also inquires that everything around Truman is the truth. In
addition, Truman had moments of resemblance to Jesus Christ which also ties into the names
Christof and Santa Maria.
4. The Truman Show used many different camera angles to depict every aspect of Truman s life.
This was so the viewer had complete satisfaction. They used reasonable angles such as store
security cameras, picture frames, and mechanical equipment. In contrast, the show used angles from
inside vending machines, pencil sharpeners, and buttons on other actor s clothing. When Christof
and Truman were in a shot together, Christof would always be bigger in one way or another,
except for one shot. This was to showcase that Christof overpowers Truman.
5.The quote by Roger Ebert states Television, with such insatiable hunger for material, has made
celebrities into content. He is speaking about when viewers watch something and become
interested in the content that they do not see the actors as actual people. The actors are just seen
as material for the viewers. For example, when the transmission of the show was cut, Truman s
face was used as a stand by screen. Christof said, We re getting higher ratings with this graphic...

Candide Paper
Candide is a fictional satire of the optimism many philosophers had for life in general during the
mid 1700 s written in response to Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man. Written by Voltaire, the
literary alias of Francois Marie Arouet, the satire covers religion, the wealthy, love, why people
thought natural disasters occurred and especially, philosophy. The novel even goes on to make fun
of the art of literature by giving ridiculous chapter headings. Just about everything Voltaireput into
Candideis designed to question and satirize real world injustices. In effect Candide is the 18th
century equivalent of a modern day sitcom (Shmoop).
Just as modern day sitcoms expose the injustices of the world in an overly exaggerated and
humorous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of the sarcasm on this subject is found in the scene where Candide is about to save
an Anabaptist who had just fallen into a heavy seas. This Anabaptist was responsible for nursing
both Candide and Dr. Pangloss, a philosopher back to health. He had fallen into the sea as a
result of rescuing a falling sailor. When Candide got ready to go in after the Anabaptist but Dr.
Pangloss stopped him telling him that the water was there put there for the purpose of drowning
the Anabaptist. Scenes like this appear and play out so quickly the audience is left asking
themselves, Did that really just happen? The scene is so ludicrous that nobody can take it
seriously and therefore it is perceived as a joke. By creating such a silly way in which philosophy
is used, Voltaire gives the audience a reason to laugh at would otherwise be thought of as a serious
subject.
In addition to Philosophy, Voltaire also ridicules complacency throughout the entirety of his
novel. Complacency is shown as a product of the philosophical ideas portrayed through Candide
and in many scenes is the only reason that things are allowed to go from bad to worse. It is
displayed while the Anabaptist is drowning and again during the earthquake is Lisbon. During
this scene, Candide is begging for help after being hit in the head by a piece of a building and
buried by rubble. However, Dr. Pangloss would rather philosophize about why an

New York City Taxicab Medallion Value Analysis
This report, entitled New York City Taxicab Medallion Value Analysis, presents key facts and
data of New York City medallion transfer transactions from January 2016 to April 2017. The
review and analysis in this report are based on information provided by the New York City Taxi
and Limousine Commission ( TLC ), primary data collected from NYC taxi medallion brokers,
and supplemental information gathered from various sources in the for hire vehicle ( FHV )
industry in NYC. Our review was conducted using all transaction data which distinguishes the two
types of NYC taxi medallions: independent and corporate (also known as mini fleet).

In determining the FMV of both classes of NYC medallions, we analyzed the various
methodologies for calculating the estimated value of the medallion and found the approach used in
this report, the income approach, to be the most concrete based on factual data to render this type of
assessment. As such, the analysis in this report is limited to, and only should be adopted
holistically with, the pertinent qualifying parameters.
After an extensive review of all applicable datasets and information, we conclude that the taxicab
medallion values for the period for January 2016 to April 2017, calculated using the discounted
cash flow methodology, were $550,000 and $1,108,000, respectively.
The subsequent sections of the report will: (1) provide an overview of the NYC taxi medallion
market and new market entrants impact on the taxi industry; (2) identify the best approach to
determine medallion valuation (3) analyze data gathered using discounted cash flow to assess
valuation of both classes of medallions.
I. BACKGROUND OF NYC TAXI MEDALLION
In the late 1930s, New York City introduced yellow taxi medallions to curb the oversupply of
taxicab vehicles and drivers entry into what was an all cash business, and to limit the impact of
traffic congestion, fare cutting wars and other unsafe (and sometimes illegal) activities. In 1937, the

Comparing Hamlet And Zeffirelli s Movies
All films about Hamlet have extremely close similarities. However, certain aspects of one movie
enhances the play even more. Though all three films were great, the most exceptional film of the
three is the version by Franco Zeffirelli. The reason why this film is better than the others is
because Hamlet s character is more compelling, Freudian theory makes the play more interesting,
and because the small details in the movie make the play better.
To begin, Hamlet s character in Franco Zeffirelli s film is more interesting than the other three films
watched because Hamlet s character is more insane than the other two. To give an example, in the
first movie, Hamlet s character shows his insanity by contemplating suicide on a cliff. This scene ...

With Freudian theory, the play Hamlet is even more interesting. With the Freudian theory lens,
when watching Hamlet, one could see how the Oedipus complex is present. Without learning the
lens, the play Hamlet would be straightforward and the viewers would lack the ability to see the
tension between Hamlet and his mother. Without Freudian theory, Hamlet is like any other typical
movie about revenge, however with the addition of this lens, the audience has a newer perspective
on the film which makes it more interesting. The first film has a little Freudian theory present, but
it does not show what Hamlet truly wants greatly, thereby making the plot of the play boring. The
audience already has an idea about how the movie will end, which is with Claudius dying. In the
last film, the audience can also assume what is going to happen to Claudius because the plot is
very straightforward. The difference in the second movie, however, is that Freudian theory is
shown. Freudian theory adds to the plot and theme of the play and this prevents the watchers from
knowing what the plot is about. Not only does Hamlet want to kill his uncle, he also wants to have
sexual intercourse with his mother. The audience cannot extrapolate this idea from the plot and
because of this it surprises them and enhances the

Cutthroat Kitchen Compare And Contrast

Cutthroat kitchen gives four chefs $25,000 to spend that money on helping themselves or
sabotaging their competitors (FoodNetwork). It is cooking competitions so they have 3 rounds were
they cook whatever the host Alton Brown tells them to make. After that they get 60 seconds to shop

what sabotages they were given to which if any. The criterion the judge goes by is the

1.The search term I used to search for this article was Title IX in sport. I used the OneSearch

2.The literature review of this article focuses on Title IX itself, as well as statistical numbers

Acosta and Carpenter (2012) reported that the number of female athletes playing college sports
has risen from 16,000 in 1968 to over 200,000 in 2012. Although the increased number of
opportunities has provided women the chance to participate in the sport, the percentage of
women coaching women s teams has decline over time from 90% in 1972 to 42.9% in 2012
(Acosta Carpenter, 2012). Alongside coaching is the lack of women working in intercollegiate
administration. In 1972, the percentage of female athletic directors overseeing women s programs

Chagnon Debate Essay
Chagnon Debate In Patrick Tierney s article The Fierce Anthropologist, he discussed the faults that
are, or may be, present in Napoleon Chagnon s anthropological research of the Yanamamo, or The
Fierce People, as Chagnon has referred to them in his best selling book on the people.
Due to Chagnon s unparalleled body of work in terms of quantity and, as many argue, quality,
Marvin Harris draws heavily on his research to support his point, which is that the origin of war is
ecological and reproductive pressure. One should question Harris s theories (and all theories),
especially in the light of the aforementioned article, but I do not believe his arguments are, or
should be, adversely affected by the information presented in this ... Show more content on

Factions solidify and tensions mount. (Pg. 77). According to Harris, this almost always precedes
Yanamamamo warfare. If Tierney s accounts concerning warfare and the derivatives of warfare are
correct, this makes Harris s arguments incredible.
On the other hand, Tierney s viewpoint is arguable. As Irven Delfore, a professor of biological
anthropology at Harvard, points out in, The Fierce Anthropologist, Chag was both first and
thorough...thorough in the sense that Chag has visited at least 75 Yanamami villages on both
sides of the Venezuelan and Brazilian borders...Chag gathered very detailed and documented
data on the villages so much so that another investigator could study the same population and
come to a different conclusion. (Pg. 55). This seems to be exactly what Harris has done. In fact,
Harris begins the chapter Proteins and the Fierce People by pointing out a different in opinion
stating that Chagnon who knows them best has denied that the high level of homicide within
and between villages is caused by reproductive and ecological pressures. (Pg. 67). Harris goes on to
use others, as well as Chagnon s own evidence to disprove his claim. Harris shows how fighting
over women is correlated to reproductive pressure, and there is a shortage of meat in the area in
which the Yanamamo reside this is quite obviously a type of ecological pressure.
Harris s use of evidence outside of Chagnon s own indicates that he has done

Musical Analysis Of Songs Without Words
Musical Analysis of Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn Felix
Mendelssohn composed Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 during the Romantic Period. It is
known as a hunting song. The form of this song can be categorized as a rondo. This can be
argued because the A theme that begins at measure 5 reappears throughout the song about two
times. It comes back at measures 50 and 83. In between these A sections are a B section and a C
section. The B section starts in measure 29 and the C section starts at measure 67. Measures 1 5
are a short introduction. The A section begins at the fourth beat of measure 5 and is in A major.
The A section ends in a half cadence, which is an E major chord. The B section, which starts on the
fourth beat of measure 29, is in C sharp natural minor. This is the relative minor of E major,
which was the final chord of the first A section. At measure 49, there is a modulation back to A
major which leads into a second A section beginning at measure 50. However, this A section is
different mainly because the melody appears in the left hand and the section ends in an imperfect
authentic cadence instead of a half cadence. This cadence is at the downbeat of measure 67, and
there is no modulation to E major this time. The C section begins at measure 67 and is in A major.
This section acts more as a transitional section that leads into a new statement of the main theme at
measure 83. The final A section restates the main theme one last

Tajomaru considered himself to be a proud warrior. In his version of the story, he admits that he

At first it comes off as a rape because of the struggle Tajomaru was having but the samurai s wife
eventually gave in due to Tajomaru s masculine appeal. The samurai s wife couldn t bear the
shame of given into Tajomaru sexually so she says that either the bandit or her husband must

up killing the samurai in the fight. While the two men were fighting the samurai s wife

after reading and watching his story it still seemed as if something was missing. The bandit
made his crime to seem like more of a heroic and honorable act rather just killing the samurai for

How Did Abigail Adams Influence The Policies
It is often said that behind every great man stands a great woman. Abigail Adams was the epitome
of a great woman. John Adams relied heavily on his most trusted advisor and wife, Abigail. For
example, in 1798 President John Adams signed the Alien Act to appeal to Abigail s mistrust of

Spain And South Korea s Food Culture
Introduction I have chosen the country Spain. I think Spain is very interesting country because it
has a long history and fervent people. Most people think about Spain as football WorldCup, a
fighting bull and Flamenco. However, Spain is very famous with its cuisine. Also known as Spain
s food is very intense and flavorful. In fact, in a previous block, I wrote an essay about compared
with Spainand South Korea s food culture. Food of Spain and Korea deal in common. Both
countries have love of the spicy foods, and rice is a main ingredient. So Korean food is often
popular in Spain and also, South Koreans are also very fond of Spanish food. Actually, I recently
worked in a Spanish cuisinerestaurant in Takapuna. I feel like that Spanish food has so fast cooking
method and it uses many ingredients. My friend, who is a Spanish cuisine chef, told me that Spain
has a lot of food such as tapas.
Food is the history of the country. If we learn the foods of other countries, we could learn their
history and traditions. Also food is considered as a very important thing in life. Actually I am
very excited about this opportunity because I will try to get a job in a Spanish cuisine restaurant
in the future. So it is time to research better how to make Spanish food and how to develop the
Spanish food recipe. Spanish food has various types of food, and I think the people live in New
Zealand will love Spanish food because there are so many people from many countries around the
world.

Glade Runner Movie Analysis
She is the last one ever. is the note that was sent up with a girl to the glade . Every month for the
last two years, one person has been sent up into the glade along with supplies. Everyone that has
come up in the last two years has been a boy until now. One day a girl is sent up to the glade with
a note saying She is the last one ever . After that, everything starts to change. The doors to the
maze, that had once closed every night, are now open all the time and more people are getting

In the book, when the elevator doors open, the girl looks at all the boys and says, Everything is

between the book and movie has to do with the Grievers . A griever is a scorpion like creature
that lives in the maze. In the book the runners find a dead griever in the maze. In the movie
Thomas, Minho and Alby get stuck in the maze at night, a griever starts chasing them and
Thomas kills it by squeezing it between the walls of the changing maze. The third difference
between the book and the movie is, what happens when they get out of the maze. In the book
they get out of the maze and end up in a lab. when they enter the lab they meet the people who

How Perseverance Has Changed People s Life
Perseverance has changed many people s lives and people have even made livings from

Anne Frank , Steve Jobs and Derek Redmond are all examples of people who persevered to

Essay about E. J. Gallo Winery Case Study
Case 25: E. amp; J. Gallo Winery
Introduction The dessert wine industry realized huge success during the great depression years
when buying regular wine was a luxury that few could afford. Characterized by its sweet taste,
high alcohol content, and cheap price it was until the 80 s an easy to buy alcoholic beverage that
gave people with lower income the opportunity to have wine on their table. The 1980 s was a
decade of change in people s lifestyle with an emphasis on healthier habits and thus, consuming
healthier products. This change, combined with an increased consciousness about society s moral
obligations had a negative impact on dessert wine, since it was viewed as a cheap wine with higher

Nevertheless, despite the criticism, the company still produces and sells its signature type of
dessert wines; Thunderbird and Night Train.
Discussion According to the Wine Institute the dessert wine segment is 8% of the total U.S.
wine sales, with Gallo controlling 16.1% of the segment (Wine Institute). The key success
factors in the dessert wine segment have been the placement of this product. Supermarkets,
corner liquor stores, and warehouse clubs all carry it. These wines were the beginning of Gallo
and it was not until the late 70 s that Gallo started producing premium wines and wine coolers. At
first the premium wines were marketed without Gallo s name on them but as years have passed
and Gallo s various premium wines have won major awards, the Gallo name became associated
with the premium wines, and not the dessert wines. While there is not a strategic fit per se
between the two there is an economy of scale present and both Gallo and the liquor distributors
/ retailers benefit by the company offering a wide range of products, which helps with bracket
buying, merchandise assistance, and signage. According to Times Magazine, Gallo s dessert wine
accounts only for 3% of its total wine sales ever since the company transitioned to higher quality
wine products (Times Magazine). However, dessert wines, despite the criticism they encounter,
have a sweet and more palatable taste which allows for an easy entry for new drinkers to the wine

Thomas Benton Research Paper
Thomas Benton was the most famous regionalist artist, and most of his art works were whose
father and great uncle had been congressmen from Missouri, saw art as an agent of social
changes, a means to restore the values and democratic traditions of the American republic. He was

primary reality of American life. (Haskell, 221) Benton believed that the self reliance and

Korea And Japan s Current Relationship
Investigation
Despite Korea and Japan s current relationship that is cordial to a certain degree, the effect of the
brutal regime Japan established on Korea is yet a contentious issue. Bruce Cumings, an American
historian of East Asia claims, Koreans never saw the Japanese rule as anything but illegitimate and
humiliating, and this commonly held belief exists for a reason. During the Japanese occupation,
thousands of comfort women, students, and civilians were tormented and tortured by the Japanese;
however, this crucial period of time shaped Korea s future significantly. It is therefore vital to
question what exactly Korea benefited from the Japanese occupation, and consider whether the
positive outcomes outweighs the negative. Was it really colonialism, or could the years be
considered as a time of modernization? Perhaps it was both, or perhaps there exists a very fine line
between the two beliefs. Many evidences manifest Korea s development in various essential aspects
such as education, tenancy, industrialization, and modernization in communication and
transportation, but there are also evidences proving that the occupation was rather unfavorable.
Although many argue that the arduous period of 35 years for the Korean civilians served rather an
auspicious time for Korea s future, when weighing both sides of the argument, Korea in truth did
not benefit significantly during the occupation.

Persuasive Essay About Fishing Charters

many people have made the mistake of bringing certain items with them onto the boat.
Depending on these items, the fishing charter may not be as fun and exciting as you expected.
Here are five things you shouldn t bring on your fishing charter in Alaska. Liquor: Fishing

Jewelry: Too often when people go on vacation, they don t return home with some of the items
they took on the trip with them, and jewelry is included on this list. For the same reason you don

rings, bracelets and earrings, can easily slip off and fall into the water. If this happens, there will
be a very slim chance of recovering these items. Weapons: Fishing charters are supposed to be
safe for all passengers on board, as well as the staff. When someone brings a weapon, it is no longer

inappropriate. This is because it can make people uncomfortable and take away from their

Enlightenment Vs Enlightenment
The biggest life long journey that anyone can go through is the never ending search for
enlightenment and self knowledge. Our own personal journey starts with self reflection and to
become our own person. How do we do that when we have been molded since childhood to
think, believe, and act how others have always told us to? In Kant s What is Enlightenment , he
breaks down how to achieve what he considers to be true enlightenment. Kant defines
enlightenment as a release from self incurred tutelage. By self incurred tutelage here he meant
immaturity and he describes immaturity as the inability of a person to make use of their own
understanding and reasons without the help of others. The motto of Enlightenment is: Sapere
aude! or Dare to know! Have the courage to use one s own understanding. He asks us to be
rational, he says we should not obey authorities like parents, law enforcement, and even spiritual
leaders. If you want to obey them, first rationalize and then obey, otherwise you are not rational
or ethical. He asks us to become rational and think for ourselves for every action we perform
without the help of others. He then described the reasons behind the immaturity that is so
prevalent in a person. He says laziness and cowardice are the reasons why such a large part of
mankind gladly remain minors all their lives, long after nature has freed them from external
guidance. By laziness here he is referring to the mental laziness; that nobody wants to exert

highly focused evaluations that measure changes in human knowledge, attitudes and practices in
response to a specific intervention, usually outreach, demonstration or education (The Duluth

effective and they also use resources sparingly in comparison to other methods of social research

The actions which are displayed as a direct consequence of the knowledge and attitude possessed by

Natural Selection Theory
Evolution, before being called so, was first referred to by Charles Darwin in On the Origins of
Species as descent with modification. This is a very good general explanation for what evolution
is. Darwin believed that over long periods of time, animals traits changed and developed. This
strayed from the traditional beliefs at the time which was that all specieswere created by God and
did not change. He also believed that all animals were somehow related. He supported this belief
with the idea that there were transitional species that existed as different animals evolved. His
specific theory was that evolutionoccurred by means of a mechanism called natural selection.

Two main principles of stratigraphy are the principle of horizontality and the principle of
superposition. They mean that due to gravity, the strata or geological layers settle in horizontal

At first, geologists used fossils found underground to determine different layers. Later, it was
realized that fossils found deep in the ground were unlike those that were currently alive. 75 years
before Darwin first published his essay on evolution, studies of stratigraphy led James Hutton to
believe that there was gradual change amongst species just like there has been gradual geological
change on Earth. Through the strata there were different fossils which documented the

Religious Tradition in Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Essay

While The Lottery is a fictitious story it can be argued that it mirrors the attitude of American
culture in how it addresses religious tradition in its major holidays and celebrations.
Two of the biggest holidays in the United States are Christmas and Easter. Both of which are
derived from Christian beliefs. Even though The Lottery is apparently a pagan ritual, violent and

Only when we are introduced to Old Man Warner, the only man in the village old enough to
remember some of the traditions, do we get an idea of the purpose of the lottery. It seems to be a
pagan harvest ritual, as expressed by his old saying: ??Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon??
(Jackson 369). By participating in the lottery the villages crops will prove to be bountiful. He
justifies the use of the lottery simply by stating ?There?s always been a lottery? (Jackson 369).
Furthermore, Old Man Warner is horrified at the thought of ever stopping the lottery. When another
villager speaks of other towns that have done away with the lottery he says, ?Pack of crazy fools?
(Jackson 369),and ?Nothing but trouble in that? (Jackson 369)
Only two traditions survive from the original ritual: the drawing of lots by the head of the
households and subsequent drawing of the chosen family, and the use of stones for the dastardly
deed.
By using the heads of households in the initial round of the lottery, the blame could be passed

expressed by ?Don?t you have a grown boy to do it for you, Janey?? (Jackson 368) and ?Glad to

The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy Essay
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy
The poem entitled The Darkling Thrush, written by Thomas Hardy, has a very appealing
connotation. The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning
of winter and the second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal
surrounding it. The general idea of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are
some incidences of goodness in this depressing time.
The first part can be sectioned into the first and second stanzas. The poem opens with I leant upon a
coppice gate. This is the moment when the author enters the small wood and begins to narrate his
thoughts and feelings. The next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stanza is where everything seems to turn around. As the narrator seems to be sitting in
this small wood, they seem to see a thrush, which is a small bird. Lines eighteen through twenty
seem to explain this very simply. They state, At once a voice arouse…in a full hearted
evening song. This tells the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is
this bird.
The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is
best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny
little thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer
months coming.
The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in
everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible,
but it is there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that
the warmer seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone.
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy is a poem written in December of the year 1900. This
coincides with the themes of the poem itself, being a sadness

Scott Sanders Staying Put Analysis
Scott Russell Sanders s Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World counters the
orthodoxy of a nation rooted in ideas. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of
his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic,
heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of
migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but
creates literary value himself.
A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating
adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. This combination of repetition and listing

Last week, my friend and I went to Roger Vivier however the service workers treated us in a very
unpleasant way that they were too snobbish to get along with us and made snide comments on
our outfits and behavior therefore we had an awful shopping experience. In this case since the
service worker and me are only acquaintance, we have nothing connected that explains our low
interdependence should lead to a minimal conflict. Birdwhistell (1970) estimated that 65% of
communication is non verbal. So, There were three staffs in the store, while we were entering in
the shop one of the service worker could not help himself but laughing it out, one of them were
furrowing her eyebrows and the other one just stood there and teasing at my old, cheap Crocs and

The Battle Of The Alamo
The Battle of the Alamo is probably the most famous battle to take place in the history of, and in the
state of, Texas. The battle has given Texans the will to persevere against tough odds and the
courage to endure through seemingly impossible situations for many generations. Many a Texan
would draw inspiration during the fights following the defeat at the Alamo. This inspiration
eventually led them to victory during the TexasRevolution following the Battle of San Jacinto. Had
the Texas military correctly utilized their intelligence and combat assets available to them at the
time, they would have been able to properly reinforce the Alamo. This would have allowed Texan
leadership to develop an effective strategy to defeat the Mexican army... Show more content on

Santa Anna was elected President of Mexico in 1833. In 1834 he repealed the constitution and
established himself as a dictator, which played a major factor in the Texas Revolution. With the
constitution repealed, the Texians did not have the same benefits as they did when they first settled
in Mexico. Under the oppressive rule of Santa Anna, the Texians began to rebel (Callcott, 2010).
The Battle of Gonzales
The apprehension between the Texians and Mexicans began to shift towards a war when a
Mexican force led by Francisco De CastaГ±eda was instructed to take a cannon from the rebels
in the city of Gonzales. CastaГ±eda was instructed to try to retrieve the cannon without force in
order to prevent it from being used against the Mexican authorities and because the slightest act
of aggression would likely push the Texians over the edge. The Texians, led by John Henry
Moore, refused to cooperate. They even attempted to negotiate with CastaГ±eda and his force to
convince them to side with the Texas cause, as they shared the same principles in regards to Santa
Anna s dictatorship. After CastaГ±eda refused, because as a soldier, he was obligated to follow
orders, a minor battle ensued. Although it was almost insignificant, it gave the Texians a spark and
the rebel cause was able to increase recruiting efforts for the larger altercations that would occur in
the next few months (Hardin, 2010).

Identity Nd Belonging Essay
Our sense of identity can never be constant
Identity and belonging are inter related; they go like peas in a pod. The groups we choose to
belong to and the ways we connect with others help to form our own identity. Together, these
issues go to the heart of who we are and how we present ourselves to the world. One human
quality that we all share, despite our individual identities, is the need to belong. It is a paradox
that we long to be free, to be who we truly are and yet we yearn to belong to some kind of
community. There is no real obligation to belong to one group, you can belong to many, that is, an
individual is not bound or obliged to belong to one group, they can belong to many which can
create multiple identities for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Belonging to a group often carriers with it a sense of exclusivity or privilege. It fosters the
feeling that we are accepted and loved. Belonging to more than one group can also create
multiple identities for an individual. The way most us behave within our families will differ to
the way we behave within our social group, which creates multiple identities that we choose to
portray in different groups and situations, therefore our identities is inconsistent. Belonging is
often contradictory in nature. Sometimes in our efforts to belong, we may compromise our
values and beliefs, lie to ourselves and do anything we can to be accepted. Belonging, to
something, can make us feel better about ourselves, if only for a while. It can also make us feel
trapped. Sometimes being a member of a group means security, other times it can mean pressure.
Most of the time belonging to a group can define us; however it can also be where we lose
ourselves. In an effort to find ourselves we actually become a clone of others. It is only through
belonging that we can break out of the shell of individualism and self centeredness that both
protects and isolates us. Changing circumstances can precipitate a change in our identity. Moving to
a new school, town or country means that we may lose our sense of belonging to the people and
places we left behind. We need to adapt to a new environment and make connections with new
people, thus

Cape Florida State Park Essay
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park rests on 400 acres protected land. Occupying the southern
third of the island of Key Biscayne, this natural respite for birds and people alike falls just south
of Miami Beach. This park was rightly named for The Miami News editor who fought to protect
the land and preserve the Key in its natural state.
Along the east side of the park, one and a quarter miles of sandy beachfront boasts open views of
the Atlantic Ocean. This beautiful area offers visitors access to warm waters and white sands.
With a reef six miles offshore, the waters are protected and gentle waves lap at the feet of both
children and adults.
RECOGNITION
Quietly populated, these sands earn recognition among Florida beaches. In 2005, the beach of Cape
Florida ranked eighth best beach in the county. And, 2013 saw it as seventh on Forbes ... Show

The park and beach claim a role in history as well. A 2004 historical marker identifies this area as
part of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Trail. Using these waterways to
escape to the Bahamas and settle on the Andros Islands, this beach offered sights of a more
abundant life. In the early 1820s, 300 American slaves found freedom aboard 27 sloops and
additional canoes sailing from Florida to the Bahamas.
Cape Florida Light
Home to the Cape Florida Light, this shoreline holds even more history. Built in 1825, this light is
the oldest standing structure in Greater Miami and South Florida today. While restored years
earlier, this lighthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The claim to fame for this landmark is that it is the only lighthouse attacked by Indians. After the
attack, the U.S. Army built a base on these shores to protect the land and sea from more invaders.
Tours of the light and the lighthouse keeper s cottage present guests with the history of this

Evaluation Of The School District
Chapter Four The research around student choice in selecting their courses and teachers, will allow
the school district to build upon the relationships already established. When students are placed into
their preferred teachers class, it will reduce the discipline, improve attendance, decrease the loss of
instructional time, and improve the climate and culture within the school. If the proposed plan from
the previous chapter is implemented, the school district will be able to improve the classroom
experiences for each student. Implementation of this plan, along with the data currently provided,
would directly impact the students and the teachers.
Adjustments
As the Central DeWitt School District implements the planned program, the committee may
develop ways to make adjustments within the system. The changes in the procedure may evolve or
change the focus for staff development, which data is considered the most useful, how to apply the
data, and what to do if the plan does not improve the process. This may require the committee to
review what information is being shared by the students, but also which information is not being
shared. The school district will need to determine which method will allow the collection of the
most important data, to make the best decisions possible. The online program may allow for short
answer, ranking, or simply a selection option. Students may not understand the requirements to
teach specific courses and this may require the committee to

Literary Analysis Of The Mill On The Floss
The Mill on the Floss was unlike any production I ve ever seen. Over and over again, different
production choices made me raise an eyebrow, but after chewing on them, those deliberate
decisions made sense. Ultimately, the play s use of unrealistic elements served as a means for the
audience to step further into Maggie s life and to glean greater meaning from the production. This
could be seen in numerous places throughout the play: when cousin Lucy was portrayed as a doll,
when Maggie was portrayed by three different people and when she symbolically drowned on
the ducking chair (Edmundsen Houghton). All of those instances came together to create a
harmony in the play. In one of the first obvious moments of the theatricalized nature of the play,
Maggie s family rolled on her cousin, Lucy (more or less). She was a child sized mannequin.
While at first glance this seemed like a stale joke, I began to realize that from Maggie s point of
view, Lucy was the doll. Fragile, delicate, quiet and lady like in every way. Maggie, on the other
hand, saw herself as a wicked wench (as her father lovingly called her). She read books down by
the river, only to return with her hair ratted and matted every which way (Edmundsen Houghton).
In her own eyes, she could never be as obedient and loved as Lucy. The simple choiceof using the
doll brought about a completely new perspective that allowed audiencemembers to interpret and
learn differently. Another highly theatricalized moment in

Cultural Assimilation In Things Fall Apart
How can staying true to one s culture benefit them? More often than not, cultural assimilation is
seen as a consequence of migration. And the introduction of the Europeans into the Ibo society is
no different, although in this case, it was more beneficial than detrimental to the Ibo. Enoch, a
character in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart accepts the Western ideas, and changes when his
identity is tested, which evinces that a change in culturehas potential to be advantageous. To begin,
Enoch s response to the conflicting European culture turned out to be positive. One way his
response is empathetic is his acceptance of the new religion. In the novel, this is shown when the
narrator explains, These outcasts, or osu, seeing that the new religion welcomed twins and other
such abominations, thought that it was possible that they would be received (Achebe 155). Enoch
s acceptance of the new religion gave him the chance to start over. Another way Enoch s response
is positive is his willingness to learn and help others grow. The Europeans encouraged the Ibo to
learn their ways, not only in religion but also education. The narrator process this by... Show more

The Most Effective Form of Media Essay
The Most Effective Form of Media There are many different types of media. The media is things
like: televisions, newspapers, magazines, radio, internet, cinema, phones and many more. Media
is important because it influences people to buy products. They are very affective and appeal to
many people. Adverts are things that show certain products and try to get you to buy them. The
purpose of adverts is to make you buy the products being advertised so they can make a profit.
Companies spend a lot of money on adverts because if the adverts are perfect the product s sales
will be much higher than when the product isn t advertised. We find adverts everywhere you find
them on the television, radio and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Channels four, five and ITV do show adverts because they need the money from the
advertisement companies so their channel can keep afloat. Sky and cable completely rely on
television adverts because they need it for the funding. The advantages of advertising on the
television is you can have sound, movement, special affects and it is visual. The disadvantages
of advertising on the television is that the programme you are watching is split up, people
usually go for a snack when they come on and the small print can be difficult to read. I have
analysed a television advert and I have chosen, L OrГ©al , the shampoo and conditioner. The
target audience for this is probably women that like to look after their hair. The time the advert
appeared was between nine and ten at night, on ITV. It was on between Footballers Wives, and
this was a good time to put it on as the target audience may have been watching the television at
this time. The reason I have chosen this product is because it has a lot of hidden persuaders, and
persuasive techniques. Persuasive techniques and hidden persuaders used are the use of
statistics, when it says that there was, 95% less brakeage of hair . There is also the use of
science when it shows a strand of hair, and it says, It has Nutri Cerimide R , which sounds
impressive so you want to buy it. There is also

The Underdogs
Second Examination (Part I)
Mariano Azuela s The Underdogs tells the story of a dauntless Indian farmer who almost
unintentionally rises to a generalship in Pancho Villa s rebel army during the Mexican Revolution
of 1910. Though the events that occur throughout the book are not actual events that took place
during the revolution, Azuela is able to paint a very realistic picture of the revolution and leaves a
bitter taste in the mouth of the reader as one witnesses the failure of the rebels. This novel is a great
teaching tool that reveals truths of the revolution that would not have been given justice through
the traditional historical scholarship. Through fictional characters, Azuela s The Underdogs... Show

He stares pensively over the precipice and says: Look at the stone, how it keeps going (p. 158).
Other character is the novel represent those who were faithful follower of these great leaders.
These characters include: Manteca, Quail, Pancracio, Meco, Serapio, Antonio, and Venacio.
These are all characters who fought and died along side Demetrio and showed faith in their
commander in chief. Azuela shows the readers how some followers lost sight of what they were
fighting for as the revolution drug on. Furthermore, he also shows how some of the rebels could
be ruthless and would subject innocent citizens to mistreatment, as the reader clearly sees
through Blondie when he shoots bear bottles off the head of a waiter. The reader is also forced
to question the goals of some of the followers as they seem to still where ever they go. Luis
Cervantes was a character who portrayed those people who were well educated about the
revolution and knew exactly what they were fighting for. Because he was so knowledgeable, he
could be looked at as Demetrio s right hand, as many leaders had trustworthy people they turned
to in the wake of the revolution. However, he abandons Demetrio and his men towards the end of
the book. This makes the reader wonder if he was tired and gave up on the cause, as many
followers of the revolution did, or if he foresaw the defeat of Demetrio and got out while he could.

  • 2. Good And Evil In Mere Christianity By C. S. Lewis In Mere Christianity Book Two, chapter one, C.S Lewis states that Christians do not have to believe that all the other religions are wrong; we are free to think and see a different view that contains some truth. Every religion includes at least right and wrong, but based on how people view them, some people think that it was a right thing to do, but some other people might think that it was wrong and terrible.(Lewis 2001, pg.35). Godis beyond good and evil our universe does not exist if God does not exist because everything found in the world a piece of God. However, that is not true, because God created our universe and us. Our universe contains good and evil which God does not create evil and that is why we do not say everything in the world is a piece of God because the world is full of goodness and badness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two big decisions in our life: first is to be with God and let him purify our soul, the second allowed the devil be your mate, a mate who keep hurting you, making you blind and miserable instead of giving God be the delivery, who delivers us from the devil and badness. Good and evil are the widespread things we see in our life, even though they are different, but there will be a good thing and bad thing in the universe that contains man action and consequence. We would not be able to know if something is right unless we compare it to bad things because if goodness does not exist man will never know what good is, never know of fairness and unselfish or not even Christ doesn t live.(Lewis 2001, pg.37). ... • 4. The Major Benefits Of The Education Of Music Music plays an important role in our world, as the global dictionary of theology says, Music is a part of everyday life. From heavy beats pounding in cars, to advertising jingles on radio (King), or as Ruth Jorgensen says, music was a social phenomenon and examined some of the ways in which groups form around particular beliefs and practices (Jorgensen). Musichas benefited the world in many ways all throughout history, from the expression of love and devotion towards god in a mass to the expressionism and individuality of jazz during the New Negro movement these are just a few of the many ways music has impacted our world greatly. Carlos R. Abril, and Brent M. Gault wrote in their journal research that some of the major benefits of the education of music consist of the transmission of cultural ideas and beliefs, the development of a sensitivity to and appreciation for the arts, and the opportunity to foster creativity, teamwork, and cooperation through participation in music (Abril and Gault). It is our responsibility to see how music has improved us as humans and it is our responsibility to raise our future generation with the understanding, love, and creativity that comes with the teaching of music. As Abril and Gault have said, one of the many benefits of musical education is the transmission of cultural ideas (Abril and Gault). What they are pointing out is that through the education and exposure of the culturally diverse music, we subject our children in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis of The Spectacular Spider-Man and The Fairly Odd... Mass media is a microsystem that influence on a person s values, beliefs, attitudes, and behavior. Mass media is a form of communication that is viewed by large audiences through medium such as TV, newspaper, book, and internet. Television is the most influential form of media and the way it has impacted on children s lives. The two children televisionshow that I will be discussing is The Spectacular Spider Man and The Fairly OddParents. We will look at it content and the hidden message that these two television show is conveying to young children. In the Spectacular Spider Man, the episode Group Therapy show started out with the villains trying to escape from prison and planning to take down Spider Man. Peter who is Spider Man is wearing a black spider suit rather than his regular red spider suit to fight off the vicious villains. The black spider suit has taken over his body and had fought with the villains the night before. When he wakes up in the morning he felt his whole body aching but cannot remember why. Upon from waking up, he read on the morning news paper that Spider Man has taken down the villain last night. Even though he was the one fighting the villain he has no memory of the fight. The episode end when one of Peter s co workers knocks at his door and let him knows that his Grandma May is in the hospital because of a heart attack. From watching the episode of Spectacular Spider Man I noticed that there was a lot of violent and negative messages/treatment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Very few expected the macabre from a young girl such as her, but he knew his little angel was a skewed mind and he accepted it with good grace. It was something he himself had, something that made him a little bit of an oddity amongst the people that knew him. That was what made him such a good Father perhaps, the fact that the social world seemed to be something that he would easily skip out on if it meant that he would not have to deal with the world of humanity. The utter annoying grouping of the species. It almost made him sneer sometimes as he looked at social media, Facebook postings, the utter insanity that the world had come to represent. Nevertheless it let him dedicate the proper time to a womanwho deserved it. Not a wife, not a fiancГ©e, and not a girlfriend. No, his beautiful little girl. Indeed he had worked ... • 7. If Beale Street Could Talk Essay If Beale Street Could Talk You don t fight racism with racism, the best way to fight racism is with solidarity Bobby Seale . If Beale Street Could Talk was written by James Baldwin and published in June 17, 1974. The book is about a young couple having an unexpected child and later the young lady tries to prove her fiance innocent of the crime he s being convicted of while expecting their first child. One of the themes of the story is that the only way to fight injustices is with love and solidarity. One example of the theme is when there is an incident at the vegetable shop. In this event Tish is harassed by a White Italian. When Fonny sees what happened he defends her and is almost arrested for it. That is when Officer BEll starts targeting Fonny. Which will later prove costly. They got us in a trick bag baby but I just want you to bear in my mind that they can make us lose each other by putting me in this shit. • 8. Length Polymorphisms Restriction enzymes recognize repeated or double stranded sequences in the DNA, which are also known as palindromes (meaning that they read the same in opposite directions) Polymorphisms are when one gene has multiple alleles and cause morphs in different organisms. RFLP stands for Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphisms. RFLPs are used to distinguish between people s DNA. This is because since the distance between the repeated palindromic recognition sites vary from person to person, the amount of repeats within all the DNA differs too. When the enzymes cut at these sites, it results in fragments of different size and length. Except for identical twins, every person has a unique set of these fragments, so the RFLP can help to tell people apart. The RFLP banding pattern of each person is different because ... Also, the bands in the child s DNA fingerprint that are not present in the mother s DNA is present in the father s DNA, so it can be distinguished which parents created which child. Procedure Questions: Agarose is a polysaccharide that is used especially in gels for a process called electrophoresis. It is used in DNA fingerprinting because it slows down the speed at which the DNA migrates from the negative pole to the positive pole so that the process is easier to visualize and to gather results from. In addition to this, the agarose also creates the actual gel that is being manipulated. The percent of agarose gel used in the lab is .8%. The amount of agarose used makes a difference in the fingerprinting procedure because since agarose gel is the environment around the polymers, (aka the matrix) then the higher the percentage of agarose, the denser the matrix. Also, the denser the matrix, the harder it is for the DNA to pass it when it travels to the positive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They used reasonable angles such as store security cameras, picture frames, and mechanical equipment. In contrast, the show used angles from inside vending machines, pencil sharpeners, and buttons on other actor s clothing. • 11. Candide Paper Candide is a fictional satire of the optimism many philosophers had for life in general during the mid 1700 s written in response to Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man. Written by Voltaire, the literary alias of Francois Marie Arouet, the satire covers religion, the wealthy, love, why people thought natural disasters occurred and especially, philosophy. The novel even goes on to make fun of the art of literature by giving ridiculous chapter headings. Just about everything Voltaireput into Candideis designed to question and satirize real world injustices. In effect Candide is the 18th century equivalent of a modern day sitcom (Shmoop). Just as modern day sitcoms expose the injustices of the world in an overly exaggerated and humorous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of the sarcasm on this subject is found in the scene where Candide is about to save an Anabaptist who had just fallen into a heavy seas. This Anabaptist was responsible for nursing both Candide and Dr. Pangloss, a philosopher back to health. He had fallen into the sea as a result of rescuing a falling sailor. When Candide got ready to go in after the Anabaptist but Dr. Pangloss stopped him telling him that the water was there put there for the purpose of drowning the Anabaptist. Scenes like this appear and play out so quickly the audience is left asking themselves, Did that really just happen? The scene is so ludicrous that nobody can take it seriously and therefore it is perceived as a joke. By creating such a silly way in which philosophy is used, Voltaire gives the audience a reason to laugh at would otherwise be thought of as a serious subject. In addition to Philosophy, Voltaire also ridicules complacency throughout the entirety of his novel. Complacency is shown as a product of the philosophical ideas portrayed through Candide and in many scenes is the only reason that things are allowed to go from bad to worse. It is displayed while the Anabaptist is drowning and again during the earthquake is Lisbon. During this scene, Candide is begging for help after being hit in the head by a piece of a building and buried by rubble. However, Dr. Pangloss would rather philosophize about why an ... The review and analysis in this report are based on information provided by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission ( TLC ), primary data collected from NYC taxi medallion brokers, and supplemental information gathered from various sources in the for hire vehicle ( FHV ) industry in NYC. Our review was conducted using all transaction data which distinguishes the two types of NYC taxi medallions: independent and corporate (also known as mini fleet). In determining the FMV of both classes of NYC medallions, we analyzed the various methodologies for calculating the estimated value of the medallion and found the approach used in this report, the income approach, to be the most concrete based on factual data to render this type of assessment. As such, the analysis in this report is limited to, and only should be adopted holistically with, the pertinent qualifying parameters. After an extensive review of all applicable datasets and information, we conclude that the taxicab medallion values for the period for January 2016 to April 2017, calculated using the discounted cash flow methodology, were $550,000 and $1,108,000, respectively. The subsequent sections of the report will: (1) provide an overview of the NYC taxi medallion market and new market entrants impact on the taxi industry; (2) identify the best approach to determine medallion valuation (3) analyze data gathered using discounted cash flow to assess valuation of both classes of medallions. I. BACKGROUND OF NYC TAXI MEDALLION In the late 1930s, New York City introduced yellow taxi medallions to curb the oversupply of taxicab vehicles and drivers entry into what was an all cash business, and to limit the impact of traffic congestion, fare cutting wars and other unsafe (and sometimes illegal) activities. • 13. Comparing Hamlet And Zeffirelli s Movies All films about Hamlet have extremely close similarities. However, certain aspects of one movie enhances the play even more. Though all three films were great, the most exceptional film of the three is the version by Franco Zeffirelli. The reason why this film is better than the others is because Hamlet s character is more compelling, Freudian theory makes the play more interesting, and because the small details in the movie make the play better. To begin, Hamlet s character in Franco Zeffirelli s film is more interesting than the other three films watched because Hamlet s character is more insane than the other two. To give an example, in the first movie, Hamlet s character shows his insanity by contemplating suicide on a cliff. This scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With Freudian theory, the play Hamlet is even more interesting. With the Freudian theory lens, when watching Hamlet, one could see how the Oedipus complex is present. Without learning the lens, the play Hamlet would be straightforward and the viewers would lack the ability to see the tension between Hamlet and his mother. Without Freudian theory, Hamlet is like any other typical movie about revenge, however with the addition of this lens, the audience has a newer perspective on the film which makes it more interesting. The first film has a little Freudian theory present, but it does not show what Hamlet truly wants greatly, thereby making the plot of the play boring. The audience already has an idea about how the movie will end, which is with Claudius dying. In the last film, the audience can also assume what is going to happen to Claudius because the plot is very straightforward. The difference in the second movie, however, is that Freudian theory is shown. Freudian theory adds to the plot and theme of the play and this prevents the watchers from knowing what the plot is about. Not only does Hamlet want to kill his uncle, he also wants to have sexual intercourse with his mother. The audience cannot extrapolate this idea from the plot and because of this it surprises them and enhances the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cutthroat kitchen gives four chefs $25,000 to spend that money on helping themselves or sabotaging their competitors (FoodNetwork). Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that has removed many barriers that once prevented people, on the basis of sex, from participating in educational opportunities and careers of their choice (Bower Hums, 2013). Acosta and Carpenter (2012) reported that the number of female athletes playing college sports has risen from 16,000 in 1968 to over 200,000 in 2012. Although the increased number of opportunities has provided women the chance to participate in the sport, the percentage of women coaching women s teams has decline over time from 90% in 1972 to 42.9% in 2012 (Acosta Carpenter, 2012). Chagnon Debate Essay Chagnon Debate In Patrick Tierney s article The Fierce Anthropologist, he discussed the faults that are, or may be, present in Napoleon Chagnon s anthropological research of the Yanamamo, or The Fierce People, as Chagnon has referred to them in his best selling book on the people. Due to Chagnon s unparalleled body of work in terms of quantity and, as many argue, quality, Marvin Harris draws heavily on his research to support his point, which is that the origin of war is ecological and reproductive pressure. One should question Harris s theories (and all theories), especially in the light of the aforementioned article, but I do not believe his arguments are, or should be, adversely affected by the information presented in this ... If Tierney s accounts concerning warfare and the derivatives of warfare are correct, this makes Harris s arguments incredible. On the other hand, Tierney s viewpoint is arguable. As Irven Delfore, a professor of biological anthropology at Harvard, points out in, The Fierce Anthropologist, Chag was both first and thorough...thorough in the sense that Chag has visited at least 75 Yanamami villages on both sides of the Venezuelan and Brazilian borders...Chag gathered very detailed and documented data on the villages so much so that another investigator could study the same population and come to a different conclusion. (Pg. 55). This seems to be exactly what Harris has done. In fact, Harris begins the chapter Proteins and the Fierce People by pointing out a different in opinion stating that Chagnon who knows them best has denied that the high level of homicide within and between villages is caused by reproductive and ecological pressures. (Pg. 67). Harris goes on to use others, as well as Chagnon s own evidence to disprove his claim. Harris shows how fighting over women is correlated to reproductive pressure, and there is a shortage of meat in the area in which the Yanamamo reside this is quite obviously a type of ecological pressure. Harris s use of evidence outside of Chagnon s own indicates that he has done ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Musical Analysis Of Songs Without Words Musical Analysis of Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 by Felix Mendelssohn Felix Mendelssohn composed Songs Without Words, Op. 19, No. 3 during the Romantic Period. It is known as a hunting song. The form of this song can be categorized as a rondo. This can be argued because the A theme that begins at measure 5 reappears throughout the song about two times. It comes back at measures 50 and 83. In between these A sections are a B section and a C section. The B section starts in measure 29 and the C section starts at measure 67. Measures 1 5 are a short introduction. The A section begins at the fourth beat of measure 5 and is in A major. The A section ends in a half cadence, which is an E major chord. The B section, which starts on the fourth beat of measure 29, is in C sharp natural minor. This is the relative minor of E major, which was the final chord of the first A section. At measure 49, there is a modulation back to A major which leads into a second A section beginning at measure 50. However, this A section is different mainly because the melody appears in the left hand and the section ends in an imperfect authentic cadence instead of a half cadence. This cadence is at the downbeat of measure 67, and there is no modulation to E major this time. The C section begins at measure 67 and is in A major. This section acts more as a transitional section that leads into a new statement of the main theme at measure 83. The final A section restates the main theme one last ... Discussion According to the Wine Institute the dessert wine segment is 8% of the total U.S. wine sales, with Gallo controlling 16.1% of the segment (Wine Institute). The key success factors in the dessert wine segment have been the placement of this product. Supermarkets, corner liquor stores, and warehouse clubs all carry it. These wines were the beginning of Gallo and it was not until the late 70 s that Gallo started producing premium wines and wine coolers. At first the premium wines were marketed without Gallo s name on them but as years have passed and Gallo s various premium wines have won major awards, the Gallo name became associated with the premium wines, and not the dessert wines. Korea And Japan s Current Relationship Investigation Despite Korea and Japan s current relationship that is cordial to a certain degree, the effect of the brutal regime Japan established on Korea is yet a contentious issue. Bruce Cumings, an American historian of East Asia claims, Koreans never saw the Japanese rule as anything but illegitimate and humiliating, and this commonly held belief exists for a reason. During the Japanese occupation, thousands of comfort women, students, and civilians were tormented and tortured by the Japanese; however, this crucial period of time shaped Korea s future significantly. It is therefore vital to question what exactly Korea benefited from the Japanese occupation, and consider whether the positive outcomes outweighs the negative. Was it really colonialism, or could the years be considered as a time of modernization? Perhaps it was both, or perhaps there exists a very fine line between the two beliefs. Many evidences manifest Korea s development in various essential aspects such as education, tenancy, industrialization, and modernization in communication and transportation, but there are also evidences proving that the occupation was rather unfavorable. Although many argue that the arduous period of 35 years for the Korean civilians served rather an auspicious time for Korea s future, when weighing both sides of the argument, Korea in truth did not benefit significantly during the occupation. Our own personal journey starts with self reflection and to become our own person. How do we do that when we have been molded since childhood to think, believe, and act how others have always told us to? In Kant s What is Enlightenment , he breaks down how to achieve what he considers to be true enlightenment. Kant defines enlightenment as a release from self incurred tutelage. By self incurred tutelage here he meant immaturity and he describes immaturity as the inability of a person to make use of their own understanding and reasons without the help of others. The motto of Enlightenment is: Sapere aude! or Dare to know! Have the courage to use one s own understanding. He asks us to be rational, he says we should not obey authorities like parents, law enforcement, and even spiritual leaders. If you want to obey them, first rationalize and then obey, otherwise you are not rational or ethical. He asks us to become rational and think for ourselves for every action we perform without the help of others. He then described the reasons behind the immaturity that is so prevalent in a person. He says laziness and cowardice are the reasons why such a large part of mankind gladly remain minors all their lives, long after nature has freed them from external guidance. By laziness here he is referring to the mental laziness; that nobody wants to exert ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is a very good general explanation for what evolution is. Darwin believed that over long periods of time, animals traits changed and developed. This strayed from the traditional beliefs at the time which was that all specieswere created by God and did not change. He also believed that all animals were somehow related. He supported this belief with the idea that there were transitional species that existed as different animals evolved. His specific theory was that evolutionoccurred by means of a mechanism called natural selection. The idea of natural selection was essentially that some traits were more ... Later, it was realized that fossils found deep in the ground were unlike those that were currently alive. 75 years before Darwin first published his essay on evolution, studies of stratigraphy led James Hutton to believe that there was gradual change amongst species just like there has been gradual geological change on Earth. It seems to be a pagan harvest ritual, as expressed by his old saying: ??Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon?? (Jackson 369). By participating in the lottery the villages crops will prove to be bountiful. He justifies the use of the lottery simply by stating ?There?s always been a lottery? (Jackson 369). Furthermore, Old Man Warner is horrified at the thought of ever stopping the lottery. When another villager speaks of other towns that have done away with the lottery he says, ?Pack of crazy fools? • 37. The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy Essay The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy The poem entitled The Darkling Thrush, written by Thomas Hardy, has a very appealing connotation. The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning of winter and the second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal surrounding it. The general idea of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are some incidences of goodness in this depressing time. The first part can be sectioned into the first and second stanzas. The poem opens with I leant upon a coppice gate. This tells the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is this bird. The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny little thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer months coming. The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible, but it is there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that the warmer seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone. • 38. Scott Sanders Staying Put Analysis Scott Russell Sanders s Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World counters the orthodoxy of a nation rooted in ideas. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic, heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but creates literary value himself. A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. Over and over again, different production choices made me raise an eyebrow, but after chewing on them, those deliberate decisions made sense. Ultimately, the play s use of unrealistic elements served as a means for the audience to step further into Maggie s life and to glean greater meaning from the production. This could be seen in numerous places throughout the play: when cousin Lucy was portrayed as a doll, when Maggie was portrayed by three different people and when she symbolically drowned on the ducking chair (Edmundsen Houghton). All of those instances came together to create a harmony in the play. In one of the first obvious moments of the theatricalized nature of the play, Maggie s family rolled on her cousin, Lucy (more or less). She was a child sized mannequin. While at first glance this seemed like a stale joke, I began to realize that from Maggie s point of view, Lucy was the doll. Fragile, delicate, quiet and lady like in every way. Maggie, on the other hand, saw herself as a wicked wench (as her father lovingly called her). She read books down by the river, only to return with her hair ratted and matted every which way (Edmundsen Houghton). In her own eyes, she could never be as obedient and loved as Lucy. The simple choiceof using the doll brought about a completely new perspective that allowed audiencemembers to interpret and learn differently. Another highly theatricalized moment in ...
