Why Do Some People Think That Parents Should Take Care Of...
Jack Dangermond once said, In a nursery, if you don t take care of those plants, your profits get lost
real quickly. You have to weed. You have to water. You have to nurture. If one does not take proper
care of his/her nursery garden the plants will rot and people will no longer be able to enjoy nature s
beauty. In life people must take care of their children for the same reason. Without the proper care and
upbringing, a child can be negatively affected by their surroundings and have to live a difficult life,
leading those children to not fully experience the joys of life. Parents should be encouraged to raise
their children in an environment in which they are loved and feel safe. It is extremely important for
parents and guardians to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John Hegger wrote an article about the causes of criminal behavior in which he stated that our
experiences growing up have the capability to shape our view of the world and also have a direct
impact on one s ability to make rational decisions . When kids grow up in neighborhoods where there
are high crime and violence rates, they are more likely to act similar to the behavior they see.
According to Salehi, recent studies show that during the last 5 years, 60 percent of the entire world s
city residents have, directly or indirectly, been a victim of violence, crime, and felony. Thus, the
increasing crime rate, violent or non violent, is a serious threat to all the urban societies of the world
(6). This proves that the environments and societies around us have contributed towards creating more
violence, crime, and felony. When children are raised in these environments, they are more susceptible
to live similar, violent lives. As mentioned previously, negative home environments have been known
to be a cause of poor language development, behavioral issues, aggression, depression, etc. for
developing children

Esperanza s Maturity In The House On Mango Street
As in life, Esperanza s maturity evolves and grows during the course of the vignettes as she develops
and gains new experiences. Throughout The House on Mango Street, maturity is a dominant theme for
Esperanza as she goes from a girl who wants a new house purely for superficial reasons, to someone
who wants independence by making everything dependent upon how men see her, to someone who
wants the independence of her own home and who has accepted Mango Street as a part of her. In the
beginning, Esperanza is focused solely on how others see the house, and the embarrassment that
comes with claiming it. She feels the judgment from the woman asking her, You live there? The way
she said it made [her] feel like nothing. There. [She] lived there,

Henry D. Thoreau s views on nature, society, and man.
Thoreau Views on Nature, Society, and Man
Henry David Thoreau s life began on July 12, 1817 in Concord, Massachusetts. At a young age he
began to show an interest in writing. In 1833, at the age of sixteen, Thoreau was accepted to Harvard
University. Although his parents could not afford the cost of tuition, his family offered to help with the
funds, and in August he entered Harvard. In 1837 he graduated and applied for a teaching position at a
public school in Concord. However, he refused to flog children as punishment. He choose instead to
deliver moral lectures. The community looked down upon this, and a committee was asked to review
the situation. They decided that the lectures were not ample punishment, so they ordered Thoreau to ...

In Walden, he questions the lifestyles that people choose. He makes his readers wonder if they have
been chosen the kind of life that will really offer them happiness. Are they merely living a career or
some other narrowly routine or is a worthwhile life being lived. Thoreau wonders if the truly valuable
elements of life are being taken advantage of if a person is not living simply. If a person is so caught
up in working or never having enough in life, one wonders, and satisfaction are difficult to obtain. As
he states in the beginning Walden, most men, even in this comparatively free country, though mere
ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factitious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life
that is finer fruits cannot be plucked by them (Thoreau 6). This means that people care more about the
finer things in life and easier work instead of nature s gifts and hard work. Thoreau draws a parallel
between others preoccupation with money and his own enjoyment of non monetary wealth.
Thoreau discusses the issue of how we spend our time and energies. It is obvious that his townspeople
are not as economical as they spend many hours working very hard to accomplish very little, showing
a false sense of economy. Thoreau believed that all attempts to redeem mankind form its problems

Public State Formation And Stimulation Of Increased Ethnic...

State Building
Sovereign State Formation and Stimulation of Increased Ethnic Conflict
This paper looks to examine parallels in the rise of ethnic tensions that have followed state building
efforts of multiple forms in regions that had legacies of colonial rule, traditionally independent states,
and newly independent states. In considering the potential for ethnic conflicts to become violent we
must consider the fact that the ethnic divisions have evolved in a longer running historical context that
includes the colonial and post colonial periods. As modern states have become institutionalized across
the Third World, the politicization and conflicting nature of ethnic divisions have taken on new
dimensions as the newly created states have taken up the mantles of aspiring to represent the entire
nation. (Wimmer, 1997) The role of ethnicity has played varying degrees of importance in either
solidifying or fragmenting the creation of national identities. Ethnic wars became increasingly
common in numbers in the years from 1950 1999, comprising 55 percent to 72 percent of all civil
wars during the period. Additionally, in the 1990s alone, more than 200 ethnic minorities and
subordinate majorities throughout the world were contesting their political status. (Johnson, 2008). As
new nations develop, ethnic conflict is often a key source of division within states for a variety of
causes.
To clarify the linkages between state formation and ethnic conflict

Examples Of Modernism In Grendel
One literary period that I observed throughout chapter 9 of Grendel is Modernism. Modernism
happened between the Victoria Era and Postmodernism where the authors look at chaos to find
meaning, but denies intelligent rationalization and spiritual principles. In Grendel, it shifted a
transition where people have no certainty about the chaos. Instead, they try to search for meaning in
order to find the reality. One example of Gardner s use of modernism is when Hrothulf claimed: In the
old days, they used to kill virgins. Religion is sick (Gardner, p.128). Grendel responded, It is true;
there is no conviction in the old priests songs; there is only showmanship. No one in the kingdom is
convinced that the gods have life in them. The weak observe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He is depressed about what he experience, only to conclude that humanity will fade away. Despite the
fate of man to die, the narrator depended on his faith that God will rescue him from the natural world;
he envision the natural world will soon fade. With these two references, it embodies a worldview that
life here on Earth is never guaranteed. In modernism, people today search the question about what
happens after death, what is the meaning of life, and why I exist. These questions develop the minds
of people to rationalize the facts and to experience the true reality themselves. In essence, they are
looking for the real reality, only to find a purpose to live here on Earth. Even though Ork s priests didn
t believe him that he spoke with Grendel, he fully knows the truth about Grendel that most of the
Danes don t know. As a result, they are left in the cave, wondering and pondering about life without
having the audacity to look at life. Instead, their mere existence is futile on Earth. John Gardner
implemented modernism to show that people s worldviews are influenced, only to search for the true

Gulag Prisons
Prisoners in the labor camp slaved away at construction, building a majority of the Soviet Union s
economic infrastructure. The prisoners who lived in the Gulag produced miles of railroads to canals,
working tremendously, Gulag prisoners constructed the White Sea Baltic Canal, the Moscow Volga
Canal, the Baikal Amur main railroad line, numerous hydroelectric stations, and strategic roads and
industrial enterprises in remote regions (The Gulag 1). This provides representations of what
structures the prisoners were involved in building. It s worth knowing that these prisoners contributed
enormous amounts for the Soviet Union. Without the labor camps filled with prisoners to do the hard
work, the Soviet Union would not have made progress as quickly as it did. In the article The Gulag ...

The camps strength was also put towards agriculture and commodities such as mining and lumbering
(The Gulag 1). The proposal of prisoners being used for something other than construction is
significant because it demonstrates the other portion of economic infrastructure they produced for the
Soviets. The production of these assets granted the labor camp superiors to not constitute it
themselves, which is why the prisoners became such an imperative resource. Overall, the outcome of
the task guided the Soviet Union to rely on their strength in numbers.
During the peak of corrective labor colonies , each camp held around 2,000 10,000 inmates and
consisted of people arrested at collectivization, anyone who opposed the Communist party, and many
innocent victims who never committed any crimes (Gulag 1). The number of prisoners working in
forced labor camps was extensive and continued to grow for many years, The Gulag had a total inmate
population of about 100,000 in the late 1920s when it underwent an enormous expansion coinciding
with the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin s collectivization of agriculture. By 1936

My Field Experience At Cc Spaulding Elementary School
Over the Fall Break vacation, I decided to conduct my field experience at CC Spaulding Elementary
School. I had the opportunity to work with Ms. Sarah Ashley and Mrs. Williams Pre K class. I had
previously shadowed with Ms. Ashley, so she was eager to welcome me back. Over the days, I got
myself acquainted with her students to make them comfortable with my presence. Luckily, they
welcomed me in with no hesitation. After settling in, Ms. Ashley and I discussed my schedule and the
activities that I would be completing while there. One activity I observed on my first day was how the
students interacted with one another during outside play time. One thing that I did notice during play
time was that the girls of the same ethnicity only played with each other. To give some background on
the makeup of this class, the majority is either of African American or Hispanic descent. The ratio of
boys to girls was nine to eight. The four Hispanic girls stuck together playing with the hula hoops and
on the small climbers with the slide in cooperative play; while the four African American girls played
on the tricycles and with the foam toys. On the other hand, the boys were more mixed in their
interactions. They were playing with the balls throwing and chasing each other around. Though they
probably paid no attention there segregated acts, but Ms. Ashley and Mrs. Williams did. To combat
this situation and encourage more mixed interaction, I think Ms. Ashley should mix up the girls when

The Miller s Tale
Summary and Analysis of The Miller s Tale
When the Knight had finished, everybody decided that he had told a noble story. The drunken Miller
claims that he has a tale as noble as the one the Knight had told. The host tried to quiet the Miller, but
he demanded to speak. He claims that he will tell the tale of a carpenter and his wife. His tale will be
one of infidelity. The narrator attempts to apologize for the tale that will follow, admitting that the
Miller is not well bred and will therefore tell a bawdy tale.
Analysis
It is in the prologues to the various tales that Chaucer comments on the tales that his characters have
told. This serves as an internal critique of the tales that Chaucer has written. In this prologue, the ...

There was once an old oaf living in Oxford who took in boarders. Now living with him was a poor
student who studied astrology (astronomy) named Nicholas. He was sly, demure and well versed in
love. The carpenter had wed a much younger wife and Alison. She was fair and slim, good enough for
any lord to have as a mistress or any yeoman to honestly wed. While John the carpenter was away,
Nicholas made a pass at Alison, then proclaimed his love for her. She warned him that her husband
was jealous, but swore that she would meet him when she could do so safely. One day Alison was
heading to the parish when she met Absolon, a jolly man known for singing and playing guitar. That
night he came to Alison s home to serenade her, for he had fallen in love. Alison could only laugh at
Absolon s attempts to woo her, for she loved Nicholas. One Saturday when John had gone to Oseney,
Nicholas and Alison agreed that he should use his wit to trick the carpenter. If their ruse worked, then
Alison would be free to spend the entire night with Nicholas. Nicholas spent an entire day confined
alone in his room, and the carpenter wondered what was wrong. He told John that he had been
studying his astrology and found that there will be a downpour equal to Noah s flood, and in less than
an hour the world shall drown. Nicholas tells John to get three kneading tubs that the three can use as
boats. The tubs shall be placed on the roof so that they will remain unseen.

Tommy Thompson. It went into effect in Wisconsin on July 1,1999, and was created to provide health
care coverage to Wisconsinites whose employers do not provide health care and for people who make
too much money to be covered by Medicaid. BadgerCare began with a small group of about 3,400
adolescents who were enrolled in the spring of 1999, under new Medicaid rules that allowed the
coverage of children born after September 1983 with a family income of no more than 100 percent of
the federal poverty level. By November of 2000, enrollment in BadgerCare, including additional
Medicaid children, had increased to 51,172. No adults were allowed insurance

Seattle Pitting Research Paper
On March 23, 1954, Seattle newspapers reported citizens finding pits and glass bubbles within their
car windshields at a town 80 miles from Seattle. Police investigated and initially brushed it off as
vandalism, albeit without much proof. It did not seem like a serious case, after all...until more reports
of similar damages popped up on April 14th from another town 65 miles away, and on that same
evening, in Seattle itself. Hundreds of people phoned Seattle police between the 14th and 15th,
reporting the same pittings and dings in their windshields. Seattle citizens entered a state of confusion
and paranoia, to the point where the mayor had begun to look to President Eisenhower for help when
not even the police could find the cause for this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such dire sounding headlines only fueled the people s fear of nuclear war more. Upon hearing news of
the affected fishermen and the sheer power of such H bombs, people began to fear not only of other
countries, like Soviet Russia, planning to develop similar, if not more destructive hydrogen bombs, but
American bomb testings affecting them. Following atmospheric testing of hydrogen bombs in 1954,
people in and around Seattle, Washington began to report mysterious pitting damage to auto
windshields. [...] The incident was shortly followed by a nationwide rush to buy fallout shelter plans
(Miller 136) The H bomb testings seemingly spelling doom, according to 1950s media, did not help
survival plans make people feel any safer, either. The film, Duck and Cover, was shown to
schoolchildren beginning in 1950. The cartoon turtle, the cheerful theme song, and the practical advice
were supposed to reassure children who might worry about an atomic attack. Instead, the images of
little Johnny diving off his bicycle convinced children that the bombs could fall at any moment and
gave them nightmares (Walbert). The 1950s was a time where many were scared of being under
nuclear attack, children and adults alike. Thus, the unexplainable windshield pittings in Seattle had
people easily jumping to a conclusion of nuclear fallout being behind the pittings. Those in Seattle
who were in support of this view ... claimed that they found tiny, metallic looking particles about the

OCC is a Maryland corporation that exists to serve utility companies and process telephone calls from

Thomas Hoff ( Hoff ). Volkman was hired by OCC in 1984. When Volkman was hired she held the

Volkman would serve as vice president of OCC at its corporate office in Minnesota. Under this

Volkman s responsibilities as vice president of OCC included, but were not limited to, facilitating

was tasked with maintaining a contract in Minnesota with Gopher State One Call ( GSOC ). Indeed,
Volkman was a longtime employee of OCC who had worked her way up through the organization and
was highly valued. She was also highly compensated, earning in excess of $400,000 per year. In or
around 2007, Hoff expressed an intent to divest himself of his interest in OCC and retire. In
recognition that much of OCC s value is derived from Hoff s association with the company, Hoff
created Hanover as a holding company that existed for the only purpose of owning shares of OCC.

until the end of the war. A number of ecological difficulties such as drought contributed to the famine,
but it was grain requisitioning imposed by the Bolshevik regime and the government s decision to hide

Examples Of Realism In Hedda Gabler
Realism came about in literary works in the 19th century, and portrayed real life unlike the previous
Enlightenment and Romanticism movements prior. Writers and people were sick of the neat, happy
stories and endings that were written by the two previous movements, and those people wanted
something they could relate to. Because of this, Realistic writers wrote about the boring, ordinary lives
that regular folks led and did not sugar coat anything that occurred but was brutally honest. In the
words of Randall Craig, Realistic writers educate readers, not through humiliation, but by
familiarizing them with a re presented world and enabling them to discover the rules by which it

as a failed New Woman, or as a woman who is afraid of sex (Björklund 1). She also could be seen as a

Henry VIII And Louis XIV Essay
Henry VIII and Louis XIV
Henry VIII and Louis XIV were both men whose accomplishments on a national level for their
respective countries of England and France were great, but whose very different personal problems
gave them a negative impression in history. The two leaders had very different ruling styles, but with a
few similar themes throughout. Perhaps the best thing to look at first is their very different attitudes
toward God and God¹s power in monarchy and state. Henry
VIII on England grew up as a very strong Catholic, at the insistence of his mother and father. He was
known to be ³a man of daily devotionals, setting an example for his people² (Canon 76). His own

Both men had a common ability to see the goodness in other men as royal advisors. Both hired
surprisingly intelligent and wise men to run their affairs for them, perhaps Henry even more than
Louis XIV. One of Henry¹s chief advisors is immortalized in Shakespeare¹s ³The Life and Times of
Kind Henry VIII².
Cardinal Wolsey is spoken of there as ³a man such as history had never yet laid their eyes upon, a man
who could have others get his own will enforced²
(Shakespeare 78). Wolsey spent little time at the British court, but the time he spent was valuable. He
served as chief advisor to a young, newly crowned, and impressionable King Henry. He formed
Henry¹s ideas about government, spoke for the monarch in assembly, and reputedly taught Henry
everything he knew about economics from an early age. Two other advisors are also known to history
as serving in Henry¹s later life, Thomas Cromwell and Thomas More.
Likewise, Louis XIV, in a mark of true genius, was wise enough to appoint someone wiser than
himself to run the government. He had many, and oddly, most of their names have been erased from
history. Jean Baptise Colbert, advisor to Louis in his formative years as a monarch, later wrote in

In the human body, there are two kidneys located behind the peritoneum, on either side of the spine at

an unbranched tubule [1]. In the tubule, chemicals and water are either added or removed according to

Neil Degrasse Tyson s Theory Of Evolution
Neil DeGrasse Tyson once said The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravity, is a scientific fact .
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an acclaimed astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science communicator and has
influence in the scientific world we live in today. Biological evolution, simply put, is descent with
modification ( An Introduction to... ). This definition encompasses small scale evolution and large
scale evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over many generations) ( An
Introduction to... ). There is now enough evidence for the theory of evolution that many consider it a
fact and as such are turning away from the idea of creationism as a whole. Because of evolution you
can trace just about every living thing on the Earth back to its ancestry billions of years ago. Darwin
believed that all life on Earth descended from one primordial form (Naff 61). Darwin didn t discover
evolution or come up with the concept, but he was the frontrunner in research and a public endorser of
the theory. The theory of evolution is correct because of homology, progressions of species changing
over time, and natural selection.
The first and quite possibly the best evidence for evolution is Homology. Homology is when species
share similarities that are signs of common ancestry such as homologous structures. Homologous
structures are ones that derive from a common ancestral structure ( Evidence of Evolution... ). These
can prove to be very solid reasoning when arguing

The Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union
The European Union s role in the international sphere, as well as the aim to improve its external
actions, have been considered to be the two most important features of the Lisbon Treaty. Within the
Lisbon Treaty, the combination of the provisions on mutual assistance and solidarity created new
pressures on member states to assist one another in cases of armed attacks, disasters being it natural or
man made and crisis on EU territory.
The Lisbon Treaty brought about many changes within the structure of the European Union. One
particular change was that the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) was to be replaced by

The Member States have an obligation to provide aid and assistance to any state that becomes a victim
of an armed attack. The Treaty on the European Union specifically states that the alliance obliges the
Member States to implement mutual assistance.
Article 222 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union also speaks of the Mutual
Assistance Clause. It argues that if there had to be an armed attack on one of the EU Member States, it
is ideal to use the Mutual Assistance Clause in situations other than the ones mentioned under Article
42(7). Article 222 TFEU tends to widen the scope of the clause.
THE MUTUAL SOLIDARITY CLAUSE
The Solidarity Clause has not been given much attention since the establishment of the Lisbon Treaty
and is often confused with the Mutual Assistance Clause found under article 42(7) TEU. The lack of
attention can be quite understandable due to the fact that the Lisbon Treaty was full of headline goals
and aspirations, which took the focus off single paged provisions. The Mutual Solidarity Clause is
found in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union under Article 222. Article 222 TFEU,
compliments the Assistance Clause by not only widening its scope but also in its tasks.
Moreover, Article 222 TFEU is a one page provision which creates one of the most important

Imagine the world s major cities completely underwater. Imagine storms so violent that parts of the
world became unlivable. Theses are images that one would expect to find in movie house, but
environmental scientists tell us what is now a good setting for science fiction could soon be reality due
to global warming. Environmental scientists warn that humans are not only making the Earth
inhabitable for animals and plants, but that if humans continues with their current practices, the Earth
will soon be inhabitable for humans as well. Environmental scientists warn that if the Earth s citizens
do not act swiftly and decisively the damage maybe irreversible for humans.

Republicans do not simply favor economics over the environment. The real problem is that
Republicans mistrust environmental science, and nowhere is there a clearer example of this mistrust
than the hearing held by the Subcommittee on environmental regulation in 1995.
SCIENTIFIC COURT
A large component of the Republicans Contract with American was to establish a new paradigm for
environmental policy and environmental law. Republicans believed that the environmental regulation
that had happened in the United States lacked sound scientific evidence. They believed that in an
effort to pass environmental regulation Democratic Congressmen, Senators, and the President had
suppressed those scientists whose views undermined environmental science. As Democratic
Congressmen George E. Brown stated, they (Republicans) allege that science, particularly
environmental science, has been distorted to serve political purposes. 2 This Republican conviction
became apparent when Republicans took over Capitol hill in 1994. No other event more clearly
demonstrates Republicans opinion of environmental science than the 104th Congressional
Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment hearings in 1995.

The Green Revolution
The world s worst recorded food disaster occurred in 1943 in British ruled India. Known as the Bengal
Famine, an estimated 4 million people died of hunger that year in eastern India (which included today
s Bangladesh). Initially, this catastrophe was attributed to an acute shortfall in food production in the
area. However, Indian economist Amartya Sen (recipient of the Nobel Prize for Economics, 1998) has
established that while food shortage was a contributor to the problem, a more potent factor was the
result of hysteria related to World War II, which made food supply a low priority for the British rulers.

This added value to the shoes as people saw the players wearing them in the matches and also wanted

Ivy League Schools
Ivy League schools are prestigious institutions that accept only the top students in America, and they
challenge their students in all classes. These institutes represent the best education and produce some
of the most successful people in America. It is an honor to be accepted to any Ivy League, but
attending does not come cheap. With huge tuition costs, coursework, stress, and pressure, some
wonder if it is worth the work. As someone who has worked in admission at Yale, Deresiewicz knows
what is required to go to an Ivy League school. He states, So extreme are the admission standards now
that kids who manage to get into elite colleges have, by definition, never experienced anything but
success. The prospect of not being successful terrifies them, not merely practical, but existential

the fact that they are normally successful in everything they do. The thought of failing in their Ivy
League school terrifies them so much that it almost breaks them. The decision to go to an Ivy League
school instead of a four year university may not be worth the cost, provide students with superior
education, or help improve the life of a student. In the text of the liberal magazine The New Republic,
Deresiewicz talks about his experience of working in the admissions office at Yale and reveals some

Antigone, The Universal And Most Heavily On A Hostile...
While myriad themes that pervade themselves throughout the entirety of Sophocles Antigone, the
universal and most heavily manifested theme is that regarding the conflict between how individuals
choose to make decisions in a society: should one fulfill religious and familial obligations even when
they contract the ruling of the state, or rather should the government be able to supersede divine right?
In the traditional Greek plays, the familial structure plays a significant role in governing the actions of
characters and causing conflicts, such as in the case of Oedipus marrying his mother out of ignorance
of familial connection because of divine rule and fate. Moreover, the role of hospitality and the almost
unbreakable bond of family are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sophocles thereby highlights Creon s injustice by showcasing not only the immorality of his actions
but also how he easily breaks familial bonds to maintain power and establish a strong government.

Idealism: The Root of Antigone s Downfall in Sophocles Antigone
Sophocles Antigone centers around a familial feud that develops between Antigone and Creon when
Antigone decides to bury her brother and Creon s niece, Polynices. While Antigone believes that it is
her religious and familial duty to bury her brother, Creon objects, citing the Theban civil war which
took place right before the events of the play. Adhering to Greek literary tradition, Sophocles
ultimately seeks not just to entertain the audience, but also to teach a moral lesson, in this case about
the consequences that ensue when a tyrannical ruler disobeys divine rule, violate religious obligation,
and attempt to place government over religion. In developing the plot and conflicts of the text,
Sophocles explores three unique but interconnected themes. Sophocles first considers the role of the
individual versus that of the family, then rule by consensus versus that by a monarchy, and finally
obligations to religion and tradition versus those to the state. The underlying conflict of Antigone,
therefore, is not simply that between Antigone and Creon, but also between the themes

Pros And Cons Of Robert F. Kennedy s Speech On GDP
Review: Robert F. Kennedy s speech on GDP and the pros and cons
Robert F Keneddy speech on GDP highlighted the unique aspects associated with the understanding of
GDP. The speech talked about the meaning and importance of GDP and the misinterpretations that are
often attached with the concept. He was of the view that accumulation of material things has remained
a main focus of economic agents and doing so community values and community excellence are often
compromised. In his speech he presented an important concept that GDP cannot be used as a measure
of welfare of wellbeing of the economy because it does not take into account the health of individuals,
their standard of living, quality of education provided to the individuals etc. In this way it is not a
good option to rely on GDP while having an idea about the development of an economy.
There are various other important aspects associated with the economy in general and community in
particular that determine wellbeing of the economic agents and these aspects are totally ignored by the
concept of GDP. GDP is unable to take into account the strengths of marriages, the intelligence of the
public, and the integrity of the public institutions. These moral aspects of the community play
significant role in its economic development too. Wisdom, courage, learning, compassion, and
devotion all such factors make our lives worthwhile and therefore it is not a wise option to ignore
these factors while talking about the economic

Kinetics is the study of the rate of chemical processes. The kinetics of the reaction between crystal
violet and NaOH was studied. In order to monitor crystal violet concentration as a function of time, a
spectroscopic colorimeter was used. What is the rate law for decolorization of crystal violet? In order
to figure this out, the rate of the reaction of crystal violet and sodium hydroxide must be found. In this
experiment, the initial goals were to determine the overall rate law for the rate of decolorization of
crystal violet in basic solutions as a function of time and to determine the rate law for the reaction

Time) because it had a correlation closest to 1. All three orders were graphed and a linear regression
was used to see which graphed order was closest to 1. The order was determined by comparing the
concentration and time to the mathematical predictions made using the integrated rate laws. Analyzing
each graph and finding each correlation helped determine which graph was closest to 1. The more
concentrated a solution is, the higher the absorbance of that solution. This is due to Beer s Law. The
law measures the absorbance of a solution by determining how much light passes through a solution.
As the concentration of a solution increases, fewer wavelengths of light are able to pass through the
concentrated solution. The absorbance at 60 seconds was 0.573 (Figure 1: Table1). To calculate the
concentration (molarity), the Beer s Law equation was used, Abs = slope(m)+b. Plugging in what is
known into the Beer s Law equation resulted in 0.573 = 3.172e+004 + 0, where the concentration is
determined by M = 0.573 0/ 3.172e+004. So, the concentration at 60 seconds using the equation (M =
0.573 0 / 3.172e+004) was 1.824e 5 M. The 1st order graph resulted in k=0.006152 (Figure 1: Graph

happier than others. This can all be based on their affluence, well being, materials, and overall health
of their state of mind.
Although some people do not have as many riches as others, they could be happier. This could be
because of the person wears rose colored glasses towards the world. They could tell themselves that
they are happy despite misery. This could, in turn, let them push their problems away. Telling
themselves they are happy in fact can be healthier for their state of mind. In the book it states, If you

The Destructors Analysis

AP English Literature
13 September 2017
A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society. Graham
Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England
is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the
time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for
someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the
social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower
classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common
Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled
down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene
uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display
how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the
materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader
learns that the gang does not refer to Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards
referred to (Greene 116). The members of the Wormsley Common Gang understand that Trevor is the

Noradrenaline is chemical transmitter at the post ganglionic sympathetic nerve ending and also

Contraction of the smooth muscle (example. Blood vessels, pupil of the eye) actions of both
adrenaline and noradrenaline effects result in stimulating alpha (A) receptors located on the smooth

The twitch tension of fast contracting fibres (white muscle) is increased by adrenaline, particularly if
the muscle is fatigued. Whereas the twitch of slow (red) muscle is reduced. These effects depend on an
action on the contractile proteins, rather than on the membrane and the mechanism is poorly
understood. In humans, adrenaline and other b2 agonists cause a marked tremor: shakiness that
accompanies fear, excitement or the excessive use of b2 agonists (example: salbutamol) in the
treatment of asthma examples of this. This results from an increase in muscle spindle discharge,
coupled with an effect on the contraction kinetics of the fibres, these effects combining to produce an
instability in the reflex control of muscle length. Beta receptor antagonists are sometimes used to
control pathological tremor. The b2 agonists also cause long term changes in the expression of the

Yancey brings Sermon on the Mount, in to perspective and breaks down what we think is something to
look up to in our lives, but then talks as if, this day in time, the things we should be doing as

Something we all love about Jesus was his ability to preform miracles on human beings just like us.
Yancey tries to explain why Jesus was on this earth and did the things He did while he was here.
Yancey begins to describe some of the miracles Jesus did like water to wine for example. Then Yancey
questions why some of these miracles were preformed and why some were not. This was hard for me

blessing of healing and others did not? Honestly, I begin to come up with my own thoughts and begin

The feasibility of a light rail system is possible when looking at the amount of room in the city of

Norway is the third largest exporter of crude oil. Three separate strikes over a five month period

plays a significant role. The country is divided into five different regions: Gulf Coast, East Coast,
Midwest, Rocky Mountain, and West Coast. Some of these areas do not have enough refineries in
their own region to support the consumption and therefore need it brought in. For example, the West

gone through the motions of school and feeling lost all along, I had finally found the path in my life,
that too in the most unlikely of places... a traffic jam.
Life just switched gears. A lot of hard work went into getting from that traffic jam to medical school.
Basic science years taught me all about the structure and function of the miracle that is the human
body. Clinical rotations taught me that there was a lot more to that structure and function then I
thought, and what I was taught. The more I learnt the more I felt I needed to learn. An unquenchable
thirst, at times

Medieval Christian Europe
With the decline of the Western Roman empire Western Europe was a disjointed land that had no true
unifying structure till the rise of Christianity. In Roman antiquity people used the State or empire of
Rome to define themselves and give them a sense of unity despite having a diverse group of people
within the empire. When Western Rome fell this belief based on a Roman cultural identity disappeared
and no longer were people able to identify themselves with any particular group as they once have.
The Christian religion was able to fill this vacuum by having the people associate themselves to a
religion instead of a given state or cultural group. During Medieval Europe Christianity became the
unifying force that would define what it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conversion of Constantine created the first Christian empire in history and would be used by
future Kings of Western Europe throughout the Medieval era of Western Europe. Constantine s
example of building Churches and interjecting himself into the debate on Christian orthodoxy helped
to create the existence of a Christian kingdom and how rulers should interact with the Church in
general. With the fragmentation of the Roman Empire in the West regional warlords over distinct
groups of people began to fill the power vacuum created by the Roman empire disappearing on their
frontiers. In Gaul with the rise of the Germanic people they began to form kingdoms based around
traditional institutions of loyalty and gift giving. This enabled them to bring together their ethnic
people into a central governments to provide security for themselves and their peoples. Though the
Roman empire may have left Gaul and their frontier areas many of the institutions that were created
remained in place. The rise of Christian Churches and the power of the bishops in the city provided
the new kings in Europe with another means of controlling their populations. The bishops of the
Church in Gaul often came from landed gentries of

Current Capability Set Fielding Field
Current capability set fielding along with future fielding s including Bradley engineering change
proposal (ECP), Armored Multi Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) Engineering, Manufacturing, and
Development (EMD), and full rate production (FRP) radio variants are the Army s answer to brigade
combat team modernization. The tactical environment is the tip of the spear, a challenging space
where effectiveness, survivability, and sustainability provide the keys to success. That success is
becoming increasingly reliant on data. Data drives our missions, from operations, intelligence, and
fires, to other areas such as medical and logistics. Consumption of data is being fueled by the
introduction of new communication systems. Warfighter information tactical (WIN T) has begun to
bring this data down to the Brigade and Battalion level with the Point of Presence (POP), and the
Battalion and Company level with the Soldier Network Extension (SNE). New radio waveforms are
providing conduits for data down to the tactical edge. WIN T and Handheld, Manpack, and Small
Form Fit (HMS) radios are being integrated into Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) vehicle
platforms now. The Mid Tier Networking Vehicular Radio (MNVR) is just around the corner in FY17.
The tactical infrastructure is leveraging these new communications capabilities to move data
throughout all levels of the mission space. The Internet Protocol (IP) is the principal communications
protocol being used to move data throughout the Army s

The Battle Of The Invasion Of Normandy
After Marshal Montgomery blockaded Rommel, whose fame was generally known as the Desert Fox
with the navy and the air force in the Strait of Sicily for more than 100 days, the Allies won the North
African Campaign on May 13, 1943. As the Allies freed for further action with the victories of about
250,000 German and Italian troops surrendered on the north coast of Africa, the British and the
American strategists were facing two options as their huge army quartered in the southern
Mediterranean (www.history.com). One of the option was put forward by the American chief,
suggesting that the Allies should transfer their forces north for the impending invasion of Europe from
the English Channel. Even though this suggestion was disapproved by the English chief who held the
opinion that the Allies should strike the Europe from the southern Italy, this strategy was later known
as the Invasion of Normandy that completely helped the Allies win the WW II. The option that the
British chief favor for finally became the strategy of the Allies first step invasion in Europe because it
not only utilized the fighter cover from air bases on British Malta, 60 miles south of Sicily, but also
saved the Allies shipping to the English Channel as the American chief suggested that. The strategy of
pressing north into Italy was vividly described by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill as
invading the the soft underbelly of Europe (www.history.com). The underbelly here, however, referred

Out Of The Dust Character Analysis
The novel Out of the Dust, by Karen Hesse is a story that teaches great lessons and a story could have
happened to anyone or make an impact on anyone s life. In this novel, there is a young girl named
Billie Jo. She has a rough life with not a lot of good things mixed in. She has a lot of downfalls in her
life with a couple of uprisings. Even though she doesn t have the best life she is grateful for what she
does have. Her life taught me and could teach others to be thankful and grateful for what you have and
to live life to the fullest. Also to keep pushing through the hard times, soon good things will come out
of it because everything happens for a reason. Billie Jo s life was the one that you wouldn t call a
dream life to have. She had a really rough life. In the beginning of the novel, her family didn t have
much money at all which meant if someone was sick, injured, or even hungry it was hard to please
them. They also had a lot of dust that ruined their crops and what they all had, which also meant they
couldn t do anything about it because they had little and not a lot to thrive off of. Here are a few
examples of how she had a very unpleasant life. Billie Jo and her mother got burned very badly from a
pail of kerosene. This burned her mom s whole body while she was pregnant with a baby boy and it
burned Billie Jo s hands so harshly that it was almost impossible to play the piano. They could not

Mein Kampf is a very controversial book that is an autobiographical written by Adolf Hitler and how
he describes his thoughts, ideologies, feelings, frustrations, anger, and his future of the world. Mein
Kampf is a book that is probably one of the most controversial books around the world. The main
topics in the book include anti communism, antisemitism, aryanism, Nazism, genocide, military,
political ideology, and Adolf Hitler s feelings and frustrations. These main topics also tie into the plot
of the book. All of these topics can cause some sort of controversy that makes this book always near

In countries in today s world, China, North Korea and Germany are the only countries that have the
book on a ban list. North Korea and China only ban the book due to their countries being communist
and totalitarian making them control what they want their citizens to read. Germany bans the book
really and truthfully because they want to hide the past and try to remove that from part of their
history. Although Germany just recently is about to lift the ban on the book in 2015, it has been ban
for awhile due to them trying to erase the past. In countries like the United Kingdom and the United
States, the book is able to be sold and read freely. Even though it is able to be read freely in the United
States some groups of people challenge the book. For example, many school systems ban the book
from their curriculum due to its offensive content and language. Although many schools have it in
their libraries for students able to do an independent reading on the book. Some groups of people that
do challenge the book due to its offensive and harsh content are the Jewish people, some liberal
groups, and peace

  • 2. Why Do Some People Think That Parents Should Take Care Of... Jack Dangermond once said, In a nursery, if you don t take care of those plants, your profits get lost real quickly. You have to weed. You have to water. You have to nurture. If one does not take proper care of his/her nursery garden the plants will rot and people will no longer be able to enjoy nature s beauty. In life people must take care of their children for the same reason. Without the proper care and upbringing, a child can be negatively affected by their surroundings and have to live a difficult life, leading those children to not fully experience the joys of life. Parents should be encouraged to raise their children in an environment in which they are loved and feel safe. It is extremely important for parents and guardians to be ... John Hegger wrote an article about the causes of criminal behavior in which he stated that our experiences growing up have the capability to shape our view of the world and also have a direct impact on one s ability to make rational decisions . When kids grow up in neighborhoods where there are high crime and violence rates, they are more likely to act similar to the behavior they see. According to Salehi, recent studies show that during the last 5 years, 60 percent of the entire world s city residents have, directly or indirectly, been a victim of violence, crime, and felony. Thus, the increasing crime rate, violent or non violent, is a serious threat to all the urban societies of the world (6). This proves that the environments and societies around us have contributed towards creating more violence, crime, and felony. When children are raised in these environments, they are more susceptible to live similar, violent lives. As mentioned previously, negative home environments have been known to be a cause of poor language development, behavioral issues, aggression, depression, etc. for developing children ... Throughout The House on Mango Street, maturity is a dominant theme for Esperanza as she goes from a girl who wants a new house purely for superficial reasons, to someone who wants independence by making everything dependent upon how men see her, to someone who wants the independence of her own home and who has accepted Mango Street as a part of her. In the beginning, Esperanza is focused solely on how others see the house, and the embarrassment that comes with claiming it. She feels the judgment from the woman asking her, You live there? At a young age he began to show an interest in writing. In 1833, at the age of sixteen, Thoreau was accepted to Harvard University. Although his parents could not afford the cost of tuition, his family offered to help with the funds, and in August he entered Harvard. In 1837 he graduated and applied for a teaching position at a public school in Concord. However, he refused to flog children as punishment. He choose instead to deliver moral lectures. The community looked down upon this, and a committee was asked to review the situation. They decided that the lectures were not ample punishment, so they ordered Thoreau to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Walden, he questions the lifestyles that people choose. He makes his readers wonder if they have been chosen the kind of life that will really offer them happiness. Are they merely living a career or some other narrowly routine or is a worthwhile life being lived. Thoreau wonders if the truly valuable elements of life are being taken advantage of if a person is not living simply. If a person is so caught up in working or never having enough in life, one wonders, and satisfaction are difficult to obtain. As he states in the beginning Walden, most men, even in this comparatively free country, though mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factitious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life that is finer fruits cannot be plucked by them (Thoreau 6). This means that people care more about the finer things in life and easier work instead of nature s gifts and hard work. Thoreau draws a parallel between others preoccupation with money and his own enjoyment of non monetary wealth. Thoreau discusses the issue of how we spend our time and energies. It is obvious that his townspeople are not as economical as they spend many hours working very hard to accomplish very little, showing a false sense of economy. Thoreau believed that all attempts to redeem mankind form its problems were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Snyder State Building Sovereign State Formation and Stimulation of Increased Ethnic Conflict This paper looks to examine parallels in the rise of ethnic tensions that have followed state building efforts of multiple forms in regions that had legacies of colonial rule, traditionally independent states, and newly independent states. In considering the potential for ethnic conflicts to become violent we must consider the fact that the ethnic divisions have evolved in a longer running historical context that includes the colonial and post colonial periods. As modern states have become institutionalized across the Third World, the politicization and conflicting nature of ethnic divisions have taken on new dimensions as the newly created states have taken up the mantles of aspiring to represent the entire nation. (Wimmer, 1997) The role of ethnicity has played varying degrees of importance in either solidifying or fragmenting the creation of national identities. Ethnic wars became increasingly common in numbers in the years from 1950 1999, comprising 55 percent to 72 percent of all civil wars during the period. Additionally, in the 1990s alone, more than 200 ethnic minorities and subordinate majorities throughout the world were contesting their political status. (Johnson, 2008). As new nations develop, ethnic conflict is often a key source of division within states for a variety of causes. To clarify the linkages between state formation and ethnic conflict ... • 6. Examples Of Modernism In Grendel One literary period that I observed throughout chapter 9 of Grendel is Modernism. Modernism happened between the Victoria Era and Postmodernism where the authors look at chaos to find meaning, but denies intelligent rationalization and spiritual principles. In Grendel, it shifted a transition where people have no certainty about the chaos. Instead, they try to search for meaning in order to find the reality. One example of Gardner s use of modernism is when Hrothulf claimed: In the old days, they used to kill virgins. Religion is sick (Gardner, p.128). Grendel responded, It is true; there is no conviction in the old priests songs; there is only showmanship. No one in the kingdom is convinced that the gods have life in them. The weak observe ... Despite the fate of man to die, the narrator depended on his faith that God will rescue him from the natural world; he envision the natural world will soon fade. In modernism, people today search the question about what happens after death, what is the meaning of life, and why I exist. These questions develop the minds of people to rationalize the facts and to experience the true reality themselves. In essence, they are looking for the real reality, only to find a purpose to live here on Earth. Over the days, I got myself acquainted with her students to make them comfortable with my presence. Luckily, they welcomed me in with no hesitation. After settling in, Ms. Ashley and I discussed my schedule and the activities that I would be completing while there. One activity I observed on my first day was how the students interacted with one another during outside play time. One thing that I did notice during play time was that the girls of the same ethnicity only played with each other. To give some background on the makeup of this class, the majority is either of African American or Hispanic descent. The ratio of boys to girls was nine to eight. The four Hispanic girls stuck together playing with the hula hoops and on the small climbers with the slide in cooperative play; while the four African American girls played on the tricycles and with the foam toys. On the other hand, the boys were more mixed in their interactions. They were playing with the balls throwing and chasing each other around. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is an acclaimed astrophysicist, cosmologist, and science communicator and has influence in the scientific world we live in today. Biological evolution, simply put, is descent with modification ( An Introduction to... ). This definition encompasses small scale evolution and large scale evolution (the descent of different species from a common ancestor over many generations) ( An Introduction to... ). There is now enough evidence for the theory of evolution that many consider it a fact and as such are turning away from the idea of creationism as a whole. Because of evolution you can trace just about every living thing on the Earth back to its ancestry billions of years ago. Darwin believed that all life on Earth descended from one primordial form (Naff 61). Darwin didn t discover evolution or come up with the concept, but he was the frontrunner in research and a public endorser of the theory. The theory of evolution is correct because of homology, progressions of species changing over time, and natural selection. The first and quite possibly the best evidence for evolution is Homology. Homology is when species share similarities that are signs of common ancestry such as homologous structures. Homologous structures are ones that derive from a common ancestral structure ( Evidence of Evolution... ). These can prove to be very solid reasoning when arguing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While Antigone believes that it is her religious and familial duty to bury her brother, Creon objects, citing the Theban civil war which took place right before the events of the play. In his speech he presented an important concept that GDP cannot be used as a measure of welfare of wellbeing of the economy because it does not take into account the health of individuals, their standard of living, quality of education provided to the individuals etc. In this way it is not a good option to rely on GDP while having an idea about the development of an economy. There are various other important aspects associated with the economy in general and community in particular that determine wellbeing of the economic agents and these aspects are totally ignored by the concept of GDP. GDP is unable to take into account the strengths of marriages, the intelligence of the public, and the integrity of the public institutions. These moral aspects of the community play significant role in its economic development too. Wisdom, courage, learning, compassion, and devotion all such factors make our lives worthwhile and therefore it is not a wise option to ignore these factors while talking about the economic ... • 30. Kinetics Section 1: Kinetics is the study of the rate of chemical processes. The kinetics of the reaction between crystal violet and NaOH was studied. In order to monitor crystal violet concentration as a function of time, a spectroscopic colorimeter was used. What is the rate law for decolorization of crystal violet? In order to figure this out, the rate of the reaction of crystal violet and sodium hydroxide must be found. In this experiment, the initial goals were to determine the overall rate law for the rate of decolorization of crystal violet in basic solutions as a function of time and to determine the rate law for the reaction including the actual value of k; Rate = k[A]x[B]y. The rate of a reaction was expected to depend on the concentrations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Time) because it had a correlation closest to 1. All three orders were graphed and a linear regression was used to see which graphed order was closest to 1. The order was determined by comparing the concentration and time to the mathematical predictions made using the integrated rate laws. Analyzing each graph and finding each correlation helped determine which graph was closest to 1. The more concentrated a solution is, the higher the absorbance of that solution. This is due to Beer s Law. The law measures the absorbance of a solution by determining how much light passes through a solution. As the concentration of a solution increases, fewer wavelengths of light are able to pass through the concentrated solution. The absorbance at 60 seconds was 0.573 (Figure 1: Table1). To calculate the concentration (molarity), the Beer s Law equation was used, Abs = slope(m)+b. Plugging in what is known into the Beer s Law equation resulted in 0.573 = 3.172e+004 + 0, where the concentration is determined by M = 0.573 0/ 3.172e+004. So, the concentration at 60 seconds using the equation (M = 0.573 0 / 3.172e+004) was 1.824e 5 M. The 1st order graph resulted in k=0.006152 (Figure 1: Graph 1). This can all be based on their affluence, well being, materials, and overall health of their state of mind. Although some people do not have as many riches as others, they could be happier. This could be because of the person wears rose colored glasses towards the world. They could tell themselves that they are happy despite misery. This could, in turn, let them push their problems away. Telling themselves they are happy in fact can be healthier for their state of mind. In the book it states, If you feel happy, writes research psychologist Johnathon Freedman, you are happy that s all we mean by the term (Freedman). What he means by this is, despite how life treats us or how many times it runs us into the ground, if we tell ourselves that we are happy, we can live in happiness. • 32. The Destructors Analysis Stephen Alexander Smith Miss Shackel AP English Literature 13 September 2017 A Changing Class System War brings chaos and death, but it also serves to change society. Graham Greene s short story The Destructors takes place in London, England during the 1950 s, when England is slowly rising out of the rubble and devastation caused by World War II only 9 years ago. During the time before the World Wars, England had a stern social order that made it extremely difficult for someone to achieve higher social status starting from the bottom. World War II brings change to the social hierarchy, causing the rich and middle class to lose their opulence and granting the the lower classes more mobility. The characterizations of Trevor, the newest addition to the Wormsley Common Gang, Mr. Thomas, a pretentious old man, and the lorry driver, the man who drove the car that pulled down Mr. Thomas s house, all represent different attitudes toward social hierarchy. Graham Greene uses Trevor, Mr. Thomas, lorry driver, and plot to signify different class distinctions and to display how the gang fights against previous social order. Trevor and the Wormsley Common Gang defy the materialism of the older generation and the notion that the upper classes are superior. The reader learns that the gang does not refer to Trevor by his name and instead call him, T., as he was afterwards referred to (Greene 116). This happens from the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system. Combined actions of both adrenaline and noradrenaline you get these major physiological responses to sympathetic stimulation; Contraction of the smooth muscle (example. Blood vessels, pupil of the eye) actions of both adrenaline and noradrenaline effects result in stimulating alpha (A) receptors located on the smooth muscle cells. The most important action is on the vascular smooth muscle; large arteries and veins as well as arterioles are constricted, from this it results in decreased vascular compliance, increased central venous pressure and increased peripheral resistance.
