The Great Inca Road Exhibit
The Great Inca Road Exhibit itself explains how vast and various landscape the Inca Empire
controlled over and the indigenous people lived and are living to date lively. The exhibition hall
consists of a lot of section introducing from the history of Andes before emerging of the Inca Empire
to the pictures of indigenous Andean people. Since the visitors need to take a long time to look the

created the Inca Empire, the artifacts and building from ones used in the religious rituals in the Inca
era to ones remained in todays and the descriptions of 4 regions that the Inca Empire ruled and was
vital places to maintain the Inca power. All these materials show the greatness and the power of the
Empire which still have influenced on the people in Andes even after the conquest of Spaniards and
the symbol of this dynamic Empire is The Qhapaq Ñan. The great road connects Cusco to the four

Television s Impact On Television
One part of television that has always been a constant in a lot of programs is family. More particular,
the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family
television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented.
However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically
with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen
and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired
from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives
together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while
Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that
time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the
series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at
that time (Garrison).
Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show
that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. My
Three Sons was about a widowed father raising his three sons on his own with the help of the kids
grandfather (Taflinger). In a matter of only ten years the family sitcom had

Essay on How Britain Changed Between 1750 and 1900
Work
Britain in 1750 In 1750 there were lots of agricultural jobs, men usually worked on farms (were
laborers) doing physical jobs like:
Looking after the animals
Being a milkman
Harvesting crops
Sowing broadcast
Dibbling
Threshing
Breaking stones
The women did a lot more in the domestic system they would usually stay at home and:
Cook food
Wash clothes
Sew and make clothes
They were very involved textiles and the making of cloth, they would spin the wool at home using
hand looms or spinning wheels then the men would weave it into cloth. This was a good way to
suplement the men s income as farmers.
There were also a few craft based jobs in 1750 such as cobblers or blacksmiths, and a few people ...

The piston then moved down.
The see saw beam was moved up and down by the movement of the piston (a vertical movement).
The beam attached to the see saw and the wheel by a set of cogs can move.
The cogs turn the vertical movement of the beam into a horizontal movement.
The steam engine can work machines that need vertical and horizontal movement.
James Watt had to entrepreneurs to help him with his steam engine invention John Roebuck was his
first but he went bankrupt. Matthew Boulton took over from John and formed a great partnership with
James Watt called Boulton and Watt, which lasted nearly 25 years. In 1800 Richard Trevithick
invented a high pressure steam engine these engines were smaller and lighter than the previous
atmospheric engines because they didn t use a condenser and had smaller cylinders.
Steam engines were used as transport engines in trains (locomotives) and canals. This was so it would
be easier and faster to transport goods and people. Steam engines were used in factories in machines.
They were used in the textile industry to power looms and spinning machines. Coal powered steam
engines which were needed to make iron. Iron improved, fixed and made tools and machines and was
also used to build bridges and ships.
Transport
Britain in 1750 In 1750 the main sources of transport were by road or sea. The roads were dirt tracks

Summary Of The Glass Menagerie
In the reading of The Glass Menagerie, we see how Laura, Tom, Jim O Conner, and Amanda are
trying to escape his or her situation. In this final paper we will see how they were trapped, and what
they done to be released from their caged life. You will see how Amanda lives in the past, Laura lives
in her own little world, Tom is living for the present and looking for the best way out, and Jim O
Conner is trying to become someone famous..
Have you ever felt like a caged bird? I have! When I lived at home I had a very strict father. Every
scenario went through my mind on how I could get out of my dad s house. Just like me, the characters
in this play felt the same way. Amanda, a nagging mother, who wants the best for her children, Laura
is in her own world, Tom wants to be free, and Jim O Connor who was trying to better himself. These
are the characters in the play try to escape their reality in many different ways. Amanda, a mother of
two, lives in a house in St. Louis. She only wants the best for her children, but she is an overbearing
parent. She holds splendid qualities but her personality is of a difficult obstacle to sympathize
(Fambrough, Preston) 2005. She would even take on a job of selling subscriptions of the Home maker
s Companion, so she could get extra money to help support the family. She was married to a man who
fell in love with long distances, and the last time she had heard from him was on a postcard that said

Womanhood In Toni Morrison s Sula
Sula is such a complicated character that it is difficult to define her. She is an unusual child that
matures into a determined woman, resisting suppression and hatred from the community in which she
lives. She is neither positive nor idealistic, and refuses to place herself in a space where she will be
relegated as the other of the other . Her complex characteristics and unusual behavior consistently
deconstructs and questions stereotypical images of black womanhood and womanhood in general. Her
description of black women is realistic and varied. Embodying autonomy, curiosity, irregularity,
passion and danger, she represents the new black woman who challenges social norms and determines
to live a disillusioned life. As the new modern black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But soon, a devastating frost overtakes the area and the moral righteousness that Sula frightens into in
the community begins to dissolve. Mothers who had defended their children from Sula s malevolence
(or who had defended their positions as mothers from Sula s scorn for the role) now had nothing to rub
up against...Now that Sula was dead and done with, they returned to steeping resentment of the
burdens of old people. Wives uncoddled their husbands; there seemed no further need to reinforce
vanity. (Sula 153 54) The community s moral resolve and harmony dissolve in the absence of Sula, the
woman who by defying social conventions motivated others to uphold them. No longer is the witch
the focus of their collective energies. The disintegration of the collective identity of the community,
which was defined by Sula s presence, is replaced with isolation between residents. This unfocused
energy is perhaps a reason to the residents attack on the tunnel that leads to their death. In her absence,

New Labour Continuation of Thatcherism
Thatcherism changed and affected not only the political landscape of Britain but also the mere social
fabric that Britain had lived by for decades. Thatcher s policies of the 1970s and 1980s would go on to
shape the nation well into the millennium.
This essay will aim to analyze the extent to which New Labour having been elected in 1997 continued
the implementation of Thatcher s policies.
The many reasons why New Labour under Tony Blair continued Thatcherite policies will be explored
throughout this paper. Once analysis of New Labour has been explored, this paper will attempt to
narrow the consequences of Thatcher s policy continuation to confer whether those policies were
beneficial or destructive to British political discourse and British society.
It is important to give a brief explanation as to what is meant by the term Thatcherism in British
political discourse. Thatcherism according to Heffernan suggests that there are several contradictory
explanations to the meaning of Thatcherism. He contends that Thatcherism could be explained via a
short hand description of what the Thatcher led Conservative governments did at any one time or
similarly it could be explained as a popular political movement, a policy style; a form of leadership;
or.an ideological project, a vehicle which advanced a post social democratic neo liberal political
agenda (Heffernan, 2001). The term Thatcherism is therefore an umbrella term that not only describes
the Leader of the ruling

Examine the ways in which Shakespeare makes dramatic use...
Examine the ways in which Shakespeare makes dramatic use of deception and trickery in The
Tempest. In your answer you should also make connections to scenes 3:2 and 3:3 of Doctor Faustus.
Deception is defined as the act of deceiving someone and tricky is the practice of deception.
Shakespeare s The Tempest uses deception in the themes of power through his magic and control,
even if this involves betraying his adored daughter, Miranda. However, in comparison to Marlowe s
Dr Faustus , deception has more negative connotions which involve cruelty, particularly in 3:2, with
the treatment of the Pope, whereas Shakespeare focuses more on the positive outcomes that may occur
from attempting to control and trick people, with the constant ... Show more content on

Magic gives Prospero incredible power which he uses to his advantage, even though Ariel is one of
Prospero s most trusted and loyal friends, Prospero does not fil to mention the time Sycorax deceived
Ariel by locking him the tree and freeing him, therefore Ariel has been in Prospero s debt for a long
time, which is similar to Marlowe s Dr. Faustus, in which Faustus is in the devil s debt in return for
power as he soons has to give away his soul, therefore the theme of trickery is common as Prospero
blackmails Ariel into being his servant, Imprisoned thou didst painfully remain a dozen years .
On the other hand, the Shakespearean audience may have felt like at this time, Prospero was the
deceiver as he comitted treason by choosing to practice magic on purpose, therefore the audience may
blame Prospero instead of Antonio. Antonio simply took advantage of the situation and took over
power as Prospero was too power conscious. Nevertheless Prospero s purpose is to bring his dukedom
back together, alongside his people and restore justice, which are incredibly dissimilar to Antionio,
Trinculo s and Stephano s motives who are simply greedy and materialistic. Prospero plainly wants to
teach Alonso and Antonio a lesson. The storm comes to a halt and nobody is hurt, they are tricked into

Horizontal And Vertical Integration During The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a period that transformed a mainly agrarian society into an urban industrial
society. It made several positive contributions to society and greatly advanced the economy. However,
the Gilded Age also produced negative outcomes that came along with industrialization and the rise of
large cooperations. Industry, labor unions, and immigration together created the Gilded Age which
was characterized by economic growth coupled with political and social inequality. To begin,
throughout the Gilded Age, economic power was held in the hands of few. Many cooperations aimed
to reduce competition through the use of horizontal and vertical integration. Vertical integration is the
combination of all phases of production into one organization. Horizontal integration is the

the racism that still existed in American society during this time period. It stated, the coming of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dry Bulk Cargo
From grains to coal and from sugar to cocoa, dry bulk cargo cover a range of produce and raw
materials that have two features in common: they are unpacked and are homogeneous. These two
properties make it easier for dry bulk cargo to be dropped or poured into the hold of a bulk carrier.

Without the estimated 500 million DWT of dry bulk shipping transported by sea annually, life today
would be altered dramatically. Just having breakfast would be a very different event, with the
ingredients of bread and cereal coming from dry bulks, as well as coffee and the sugar to sweeten it.
Even the metal elements of your toaster and kettle come by sea and the coal to generate the electricity
supply to power both appliances is likewise shipped in. Other dry bulk cargo include iron ore, alumina
fertilisers, scrap, sulphur and cement, as well as a large number of agricultural products for the human

Judaism And Vegetarianism In Judaism
Hope Budman Conlin Johnson HTM 421 9/19/17 Essay #1 In Judaism there are many important
aspects of food for religious reasons. The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many
holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have
been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws)
(Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong
to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are
Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal
diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different
animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split
hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not
allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep
everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher
products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. Like every religion there are specific foods you
eat; however, there are times we are restricted from eating some foods. Starting with the first major
holiday of the year according to the Jewish calendar is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On this

Legend. Coco Chanel once declared, Legend is the consecration of celebrity, and no other fashion
designer in history has exceeded either Chanel s celebrity or her legend. She was a fiercely
independent lover of dukes, industrialists, and artists; a confidante of many of the creative geniuses of
her day among them, writer Jean Cocteau, painter Pablo Picasso, ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev,
and composer Igor Stravinsky; and a self created image of the free spirited new woman of the 1920s.

Chanel both embodied, and in many ways dictated, the revolution in women s fashion that occurred in
the 1920s.
Connections. Chanel s influence was in part the result of the personal and social contacts she made in
postwar Europe. In 1917 she became a protégée of the wealthy, beautiful Misia Edwards later Misia
Sert who introduced her to the circle of avant garde writers and artists with whom Edwards associated.
During the 1920s Chanel herself hosted parties for these intellectuals as well as for the wealthiest and
best known members of European and American society. In 1924 she designed the costumes for
Diaghilev s ballet Train Bleu, for which Cocteau had written the story and Picasso had designed sets.
During the 1920s and early 1930s Chanel also formed intense but generally brief liaisons with
fascinating men: Russian Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, who had participated in the assassination of
the mad Russian monk Rasputin; Hugh Richard Arthur Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster, among the
wealthiest men in England; brooding French poet Pierre Revedy; and French artist Paul Iribe. Each of
these men seems to have proposed marriage, butChanel always protective of her independence
declined. Most biographers agree, however, that her often repeated retort to the duke of Westminster s

A Post-Colonial Analysis of Mr. Know-All and Man-to-Man

Professor Zhang Zaixin
Subject: Term paper for Reading the Short Story in English
28 June 2011
A Post colonial Analysis of the Short Story
Mr. Know All and the Film Man to Man
Race has been a fundamental concept in the world literature of all times. Racism, under which race
related issues are mostly discussed, involves the belief in racial differences, which acts as a
justification for non equal treatment, or discrimination, of members of that race. The term can have
varying and contested definitions in works of different forms, but it is commonly used negatively and
is usually associated with race based prejudice, violence, dislike, discrimination, or oppression.
Sociologist David Wellman defines racism as a culturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s more, according to 19th century British writers such as Rudyard Kipling, Charles Kingsley,
Thomas Carlyle, and others, it was the duty of Europeans the white man s burden to bring civilization
to nonwhite peoples through benevolent political and cultural imperialism ( White supremacy ).
A Post colonialist Reading of the Short Story Mr. Know All
Somerset Maugham s short story Mr. Know All is a quintessential text about othering, or a
psychological operation upon which colonialist ideology depends. Specifically, I will argue that
Maugham s story reveals the colonialist ideology lurking at the core of British cultural identity and
that colonialist psychology is a pervasive presence in the narrative as a whole, because that
psychology is central to the characterization of the narrator.
The story is told from the perspective of a person whose culture group has long been stereotypically
considered privileged. Therefore, readers need to be cautious of an unreliable narrator and potential
bias and prejudice that might be involved in the first person narrative. The narrator in Mr. Know All
strikes me as a hard core racist and an English snob right after the story unfolds. Because he was
prepared to dislike Max Kelada even before they met, and simply on hearing the non British name of
his companion made his heart sink. From the statement I should have looked upon it with less dismay
if my fellow passenger´s name had been Smith or Brown, we can certainly sense

blood glucometeres are able to be shared if cleaned and stored properly. Others argue stating they

I know this because I work in a nursing home and our infection control class was mostly about the
Wayne County story because it hit so close to home. This type of thing happens everyday around the

practices are not the only issue with blood glucometers in nursing facilites, money is an issue also.
Glucometers are not exactly pricey but when you have alot of residents who need them they become
pricey. When living in an asissted living you pay to live there and as a part of that money the staff is
required to get your medicine and make sure it is given to you when needed. Spreading bloodborne

Charles Darwin s The Hms Beagle And His Exploration...
Today was the day. Today was the day I would finally get all my answers on the theory of evolution,
from the master himself, or should I say father . As I opened the door, a mysterious old figure stood
with a tortoise by his side: it was Charles Darwin. Quickly and eagerly he went into the dining room
and eagerly cried, Guys! I am very glad to see you all! I need to tell you all everything, everything that
I had found out about! Before my family had fully sat on their seats, he shared fascinating stories
about his adventures and voyages. He began explaining his tails on the famous HMS Beagle and his
exploration of the Galapagos Islands. On his voyage on the Beagle he was instructed to chart stretches
of coastlines of South America, but as he explained that he wasn t any Picasso, his sketches ended up
poorly drawn. As we all know, Darwin has never been the type to enforce rules, and plus charting
coastlines is just the most boring job a person can do. As well as charting, he shared his strange
fascination on his observations of how the characteristics of plants and animals suits only specific
environments in South America. He explained how plants and animals in similar geographic and
climate zones have a similar resemblance. With great enthusiasm, Charles addressed my half brother

One strategy to fix this is to educate the public. Mostly the youth, because they are the future. By
educating the public people will be more aware of the signs. To know if someone s suffering from
domestic violence or to know how to get themselves out of it. Most schools provide health classes that
go over this topic for a few days, but I think they need more than just a few days to learn about
domestic violence. I strongly feel that they should educate not just in schools but in jobs. To get across
to the older generation too. Another strategy to help the victims is to provide more help. Providing
organization and classes to go to while or after they ve been abused for support and comfort. How this
would work would be by getting the government to support this movement. Also tell law enforcement
to make tighter and stricter laws, because many abusers get restraining orders put on them and they
violate them. Not having to face tough consequences. With all these changes it would not alter our
system we have in place today. These changes will work in our current system. This problem just
needs to get more attention from the public. To do something before it happens rather than after. By
doing all these things it will help you, me, and everybody else in this world. Not just a certain race,
gender, or country, because we all tie together to make this all happen. We are all part of this

Koko And American Sign Language
Animals do not really understand human language. To animals, it is like performing a specific action
for a specific command. In this paper, through a widely popular example, I would like to argue that,
although animals have their own language and seem to understand human language, in reality, animals
do not really understand human language.
Koko (born July 4, 1971), a female western gorilla, was known for having learned signs from an
adjusted version of American Sign Language. Her instructor and caregiver, animal psychologist
Francine Penny Patterson, reports that Koko can understand more than 1,000 indications of what
Patterson calls Gorilla Sign Language (GSL) (Fischer). Patterson reports that Koko s utilization of

A. Petitto). Koko the gorilla made headlines when she appeared in a video calling on world leaders to
take action on climate change. It might appear that Koko has mastered the ability to communicate a
complex message using signs. However, the video was a campaign message, so it is possible that she
is copying the signs being asked of her, rather than sending us a message of her own. But if this is
true, is Koko really showing any such ability? In short no. What Koko can in fact do, is manipulate
her vocal chords to create an assortment of sounds. It might likewise be conceivable that Koko s
normal activities like scratching or embedding her thumb in her mouth might be confused with
American Sign Language. The comprehension of human dialect by Koko might be relatable to

Poverty and the American Dream
The American Dream as defined by James Truslow Adams in 1931 is a national ethos of the United
States in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social
mobility achieved through hard work. Truslow states life should be worse and poorer and fuller for
everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or
circumstances of birth. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of
Independence which proclaims that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain inalienable Rights including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. The
American Dream is viewed by many Americans as not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he noted in the preface, there was no shortage of such books. What he wanted to contribute was
broad interpretive sensibility that emphasized important historical themes. For Adams, no theme was
more important than what he called that American dream of better, richer, and happier life for all our
of citizens of every rank, which is the greatest contribution we have made to the thought and welfare
of the world. That dream of hope has been present since we became and independent nation, each
generation has seen an uprising of ordinary Americans to save that dream from the forces which
appeared to be overwhelming it.
While Adams may have the coined the phrase of the American Dream, it is apparent that the notion of
the Dream was a prevalent long before the term was engrained in the oral culture of American society.
The roots of the American Dream is evident even in the composition of the Declaration of
Independence. Written in 1776, Cullen suggests that the Declaration of Independence is directly
worded to invoke a spirit of the anything is possible at any moment. He states: Maybe saying that the
Declaration is central in contemporary American life seems odd, since a few of us have actually read
the entire document. And those of us who have can t help but notice that this manifesto, like so much
else about American Revolution, is remote, even tedious. The Key

Birches By Robert Frost Analysis
Robert Frost s Birches depicts the relationships between imagination and reality, liberation and
confinement, and youth and adulthood. The speaker of the poem battles with his current life
adulthood, and uses his reminiscences of adolescence and his imagination as a means to escape from
his reality for a period of time. Frost uses three different themes that he presents in three sections to
represent his emotions: nature, a young boy, and a mature man who has the opportunity to reflect on
his past and current life. The use of nature helps the narrator of the poem to connect his life to his
surroundings. His connection with nature helps him come to a realization about his life, which
ultimately sparks the use of his avid imagination. The young boy represents the speaker in his youth
where he was free, had adventures, and had no demanding obligations. He represents a state of full
possibility where the narrator was able to explore any opportunity without harsh consequences. The
man at the end of the poem, is the speaker who is taking his whole life into consideration. He is
analyzing all the positives and negatives and figuring out the overall meaning of his life. Ultimately,
his reflection leads him to come to the conclusion that he took his youth for granted. Each section of
the speaker s life symbolizes his sense of yearning for adolescence and an escape from the restrictions
of his current state of life, adulthood. The setting of Birches is not explicitly stated

Compare And Contrast The Response Of Anti-Federalists...
Out of the 55 delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention, only 39 signed the Constitution
due to multiple objections from the Anti Federalists, but these objections were moderately absolved
during the ratification process. Delegates who did not sign the Constitution had reasonings that ranged
from simply going home early to outright protest. One of the reasons was that the Constitution lacked
a Bill of Rights. Individuals who did not sign because of this included Elbridge Gerry, Richard Henry
Lee, and George Mason. These men believed the Constitution lacked sufficient protection of
individual rights and felt a Bill of Rights should be added. A second reason was that the Constitution
gave too much power to the federal government and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anti Federalists believed that aspects such as the necessary and proper clause and the supremacy
clause gave too much power to the central government and violated state s rights. The Anti Federalists
also had issues that were specific to each branch. The Constitution gave the President the power to
pardon, the Anti Federalists believed this awarded the executive branch too much power and created a
leader similar to Britain s monarch. They argued that legislature had too few of seats, and that senators
term limits were too long. The judicial branch was granted the right to review the Constitution, and the
Anti Federalists thought the branch would manipulate and interpret the Constitution to benefit
themselves. Furthermore, Anti Federalists believed that the national government was too far from the
average citizen and wouldn t be able to respond to concerns on a state and local basis. Because the
Constitution was written behind closed doors, the Anti Federalists believed that the American people
should know exactly what rights the new document gave them, therefore a Bill of Rights was
necessary. The federalists responded to these objections in many ways. One of the most memorable
was the Federalist Papers written by John Jay, James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton. These papers
outlined the benefits of a strong central government in order to persuade New York to ratify the
Constitution. Debates between Federalists and Anti Federalists broke out in multiple states, thus
leading to a decelerated ratification process. Compromise between these two factions came through
promises to add a Bill of Rights and create a better system of checks and balances leading to more
states ratifying the

Although EU institutions have many federal characteristics, Member States still retain the controls
which make a European United States unlikely. The Council of Ministers is federally in the sense that
it consists of representatives of the Member States who act together to perform their legislative role,
they create rules which bind the constituent Member States. However, national interests prevail and
the process of policy and law making in the Council remains intergovernmental. While the
Commission is made up of twenty eight independent commissioners to represent the Union interest

most federal institution of the EU is the European Parliament, which has almost all powers of a federal

ultimate power of veto over proposed legislation, this power further increased when the Lisbon Treaty

Lisa Shiflett says it has been preserved in her journal article, West African food traditions in Virginia
foodways: A historical analysis of origins and survivals in the quote that says, ...this study concludes
that West African food traditions did survive slavery and have affected foodways across cultural lines
in Virginia... (Shiflett 2). In the time of African American slaves, there were two extremely important
aspects of their everyday lives: religion and food. Southern eating and cooking habits were
specifically influenced by African American slaves, who did the majority of cooking on the old
southern plantations (Schiflett 44). There were four main crops on southern plantations, and these
crops were rice, sugar, cotton, and rice. While multiple crops were grown on the plantations, each
plantation chose one cash crop as their main crop. Yet even in a system of assimilation, where
individual needs, desires, and tastes were suppressed, slaves managed to supplement their food
supplies through gardening, gathering, fishing, and hunting (Shiflett 44). In the novel, many different
food choices were presented to the reader. They made rice with molasses, which embodies two of the
major crops at that time. Items such as pork for meat and corn for a starch were also major aspects of a
slave s food choices. Other major food items that were popular throughout Virginia as seen in the

They consume growing amounts of energy and other natural resources, degrading the environment in
numerous ways. In addition to using up fossil fuels and other resources, plastic products create litter,
hurt marine life, and threaten the basis of life on earth. There is over 45 million tons of plastics per
year and nearly every piece of plastic ever made still exists today because of its long life properties.
Biodegradable plastics could be an effective solution to all of these problems. Biodegradable plastics
are a much better choice than non biodegradable plastics because they are friendlier to the earth and
the environment. Biodegradable plastics break down faster, can be recycled easier and are non toxic.
With these characteristics of biodegradable plastics, we could help save lives and the environment as
well and reduce the threat plastics give to marine life. Plastic, the wonder material that we use for
everything, is perhaps the most harmful of this trash because it does not readily break down in nature
but if it is biodegradable, these plastics break down faster so they have a much shorter effect on the
earth, and they will degrade completely. Normal plastics are manufactured using oil, and this process
is very harmful to the environment by polluting the air and environment, but this is not the case with
green biodegradable plastics. Using biodegradable plastics will minimize the effects that these

Summary Of The Book The Trail
They were on their morning walk through the endless trails and old dirt paths that twisted and turned
until you saw no end. The trails were covered with fresh snow stacked upon autumn s forgotten leaves
that were never bothered to be picked up. Walking into the woods, holding his gun with an old torn
red flannel tee on, Jason has doubts that this might be his last season. Charlie was already climbing
down the hillside, straying off the trails, and hoping of making the first kill to prove his worthiness to
his owner. Jason calls back to Charlie, Come mere ol boy, don t start without me! and they begin their
way quietly trudging through the dense woods to their special spot. They continue down the beaten
path until Jason and Charlie come to a clearing in the woods where the only drops of sun come down
through the dead leaves that have yet to fall. Here Jason pulls out a decaying tarp and sets up base
camp. From camp, you can see all the rolling hillsides slope down into one large snake like river
flowing through the mountains until it is lost in the distance. The Tennessee mountains are a
treacherous terrain filled with steep drop offs and deadly trails. One can easily become lost and lose all
sense of direction. Clutching his compass in one hand, Jason is prepared to stay the whole winter.

The Impact Of Illegal Immigrants On US Wages
The Impact of Illegal Immigrants on US Wages
Jessica Cotter
ECON 3231
11/20/2017
The United States of America has the highest number of immigrants in the world. The population of
both illegal and undocumented immigrants has increased drastically over the past decade. According
to the current statistics, there are 11.9 million estimated illegal immigrants living and working in the
USA. The statistics translate to five hundred thousand new entrants annually in the last ten years. The
remaining 40% of illegal immigrants arrive on temporary visas but they choose to remain in the
country after their visas expire. However, the state of the recession has temporarily stopped the
population growth of unauthorized immigrants, but entry into the US is expected to resume after the
recovery of its economy if past experience is a guide. Immigration policies and reforms have raised
political heat with President Trump threatening to deport all illegal immigrants. However, the
Democrats and Republicans never seem to agree on immigration reforms. Donald Trump has
promised to build a wall on the US Mexico border to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants as well
as curb drug and human trafficking routes. President Trump seems to be committed to his immigration
reforms based on his temporary executive order to stop immigrants from Somalia, Yemen, and Iran
among other Arab states from entering the US. There are many economic impacts of illegal
immigrants in the country.

The First Type Of A Person Essay
An individual can be one of three types of people when he is trying to remember someone. The first
type is someone who would off the bat recognize the other person as being familiar, but just cannot
recall that person s name in that exact moment. The second type would be someone who recognizes
the person by name, but would not recognize him when he sees him in person. The third type is the
person would be the star individual who could correctly recognize the person and confidently greet the
person by name. The majority of my friends, as well as myself, often lean towards the first type of
person. The feeling that the word, such as the name of a person, is within grasp, but for some reason,
you are incapable of verbalizing the word is known as the tip of the tongue phenomenon. It is also
frequently referred to as its abbreviated name: TOT. More often than not, we are used to hearing about
your parents or someone older who you know experiencing episodes of forgetting where they placed
items, such as their car keys, are. As troublesome as it may be, it is merely a symptom of growing
older.
As we age, our memory will start to deteriorate along with our youthful appearance, causing us to
have a harder time to recall information, such as names. Information lasting more than 30 seconds in
your mind gets moved from your working memory to your long term memory where it is stored for
the rest of your life. Psychologists believe long term memory is unlimited whereas short term or

Wegmans, The Middle Atlantic Grocery Chain
Introduction
Wegmans, the middle Atlantic grocery chain, has demonstrated a great deal of success in just less than
100 years of operating. In those 100 or so years, Wegmans has become one of the most respected and
successful grocers in that region, if not the country. The reason for this success is the commitment that
Wegmans has put in place. Wegmans follows an extremely detailed plan, that allows for them to have
a great grasp on what sort of inventory the stores need to keep on hand. Wegmans also is a leader in
the area of sustainability. As Wegmans continues growing their footprint, they will continue to
implement these processes and continue to be a leader in the grocery industry.
Process Management Since Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. was founded in 1916 as the Rochester Fruit
and Vegetable Company by John Wegman the company has grown to be one of the largest privately
owned companies in the United States (Ezzedan, Hyde, Laurin, 2006, p. 298). The highly ranked
company, based in Rochester, New York, has branched out into other major cities in the New York,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia areas. Recognized by Fortune magazine as a best company to
work for, a single Wegmans superstore typically employs five hundred to six hundred employees

At that point, the raw scores steadily declined across the older age groups. Kaufman and Kaufman
note that the peak level for fluid intelligence on the KBIT 2 extends into higher age ranges than peak

Beginning in the Middle Ages and through the seventeenth centuries, witch trials occurred in Europe.
Many people were accused of being witches some of these people were accused of being witches for
not following Christian beliefs at that time and others followed witch prosecutions for goods and
money. Furthermore, the stereotypes of witches at this period also had a role in causing witch
prosecutions. In this essay I argue how these three components led to the death of so called witches.

It is important to understand the meaning of witchcraft to be able to identify what caused the massive
witch hunt in Europe. During the medieval to the early modern period witchcraft was identified as the
practice of harmful, black or maleficent magic caused by a witch (Levack, 1987, p. 4). They also
describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. These
accusations were untrue rumors made by the Catholic Church to promote Christianity and punish
those who did not follow the church beliefs. (Levack, 1987, p. 7)
Furthermore, Witches were commonplace all over the world with different stigmas and stereotypes
attached to them from each respectful culture that contained them (Girard, 1986). It was not until the
rise of the Catholic Church that witches soon became associated with black magic and the Devil,
leading to mass prosecutions. In the Middle Ages there was a popular belief that demons walked the
Earth, leaving disease and devastation in their wake. The church, feeling threatened by the ideologies
of Witchcraft, decided to link the old Pagan religion with that of Satanism (Levack, 1987). By doing
so, they were able to gather favor from the masses by taking advantage of the fear of the Devil by the
public and using it to prosecute those who

Legislative History Of Parental Right
Legislative History of Parental Right
In the past, societies were predominately rural in nature, and the bulk of the population lived off
agriculture and handicraft. The family was crucial in developing and teaching the children
economically useful skills. The parents had power in deciding how, where, and who educated their
children. In this modern time, the government has increasingly taken away power and authority from
parents over their children. In the course of this happening, parents ceded many of their
responsibilities to the all knowing government. It created negative, un intended consequences. The
Parental Right Amendment was proposed in the Congress as House Joint Resolution 42 on March 31,
2009. The lead sponsor was Rep. Pete Hoekstra. The amendment contained five sections. First, the
liberty of parents to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their children is a fundamental right.
Second, the parental right to direct education includes the right to choose public, private, religious, or
home schools, and the right to make reasonable choices within public schools for one s child. Third,
neither the United States nor any state government shall infringe these rights without demonstrating
that its governmental interest, as applied to the person, is of the highest order and not otherwise
served. Fourth, this article shall not be construed to apply to a parental action or decision that would
end life. Finally, no treaty may be adopted nor shall

Essay on Analysis of Halloween Film Trailer
Analysis of Halloween Film Trailer
I have decided to look at a trailer that was filmed in 1978 called Halloween directed by John
Carpenter. The purpose of the trailer is to tease the audience into wanting to see the film but also to
identify genre through conventions and create opinions in the audiences mind. The genre of my trailer
is cross generic horror; appealing to a wide target audience. The horror genre is represented through
the scenes involving blood and violence.
Conventions of the trailer include the length, use of settings, characters, music, sound effects, and
colours. The settings of an isolated house, in the dark on Halloween night are conventional of the
horror genre as they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trailer is introduced by zooming in on a house; this creates tension and shows the significance of
the house. Furthermore the white coloured house is a representation of innocence, the black
background behind it, draws attention to the house and reiterates its significance, the narrator quotes,
He s come home , also representing its significance.
Later on in the trailer we are seeing what s happening through the eyes of the villain, this is a very
long, in time, shot of the same view through a mask, which is not typical of a horror trailer but works,
as it is consistently scary.
The straight cut to a doctor talking is to represent a professional opinion, adding to character
development as a stereotypical doctor represents a trustworthy character for the audience. The
character introduced as the main victim is a young, attractive girl, who is a babysitter this is a
representation of innocence also following the conventional children in jeopardy scenario creating
tension and fear for the audience.
The trailer shows realism through the settings, characters and music. The settings is in a
stereotypically little, small populated village. The sound effects of screaming represent realism as they
show real fear and emotion.
Iconography is use throughout the trailer to identify certain things. The use of the pumpkin seen next
to the title represents

How Did Bob Harris Influence The Big Government
Harris was recognized by his followers as a courageous person who had the power to shape the
government s influence in society, control the supremacy of public sector organizations, reduce taxes,
nurture personal initiatives and ensure positive progress of the economy. ( Citation) On the contrary,
his critics associated him with being dictatorial, ailing healthcare and education systems, increase in
poverty levels amongst the marginalized groups in Ontario, issues of police brutality on a Native
demonstrator and negligence over laws that protect the environment. According to his critics, his
negligence to environmental laws was responsible for Walkerton s tainted water scandal in 2000
where 7 people lost their lives.
After the ouster of Bob Rae in 1995 is when Harris became premier. The NDP rule under Bob Rae
was associated with a deteriorating economy before being ousted by Harris. In the 1999 election,
Harris party emerged victorious once again even though there was a strong opposition from labor,
environmental and social organizations throughout the province. Harry and his neo conservative group

Harris maintained his position but he later assumed leadership of the party after the departure of Larry
Grossman. This was a position he had eagerly anticipated for the past six years since his arrival at
Queen s Park. Harris believed in himself that he had the ability to give the party a new direction. He
didn t believe in the big government that was characterized by high taxes, deficits, influential public
sector organizations and a businesslike way of ruling. Harris portrayed the image of a tax advocate to
his party, a man capable of making the conservative party popular again through the tax reduction
policies. His main intention here was for the party to restore lost glory and assume

Nanotechnology For Enhanced Solar Conversion
Egbo Kingsley O. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal Abstract
The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface plasmon
excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be
investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active
nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the sun
in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to high weighted
enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by employing
nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI
nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while
preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the
nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption
enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping
mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite
difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency
measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making
demands on the availability of energy supply and research has

(Impact of cloud computing in supply chain, 2015) The difference between distributed computing with
individualized computing is that the cloud technology gives an extensive variety of capacities. The
usage of cloud built solutions depends on different elements, for example, the division in which the
business works; the practicality of porting existing parts on cloud, size of the organization, and the
area of customers and so on. It helps in reducing the time required as well as minimize the fixed cost
of the company. Therefore, it is not logistic to make a single explanation of implementation of cloud
computing technology. For example, a newly started company can adopt the cloud based solution
easily but it is difficult for existing firms to shift their supply chain to cloud technology. Let consider a
business has both ERP and CRM solutions, as concern from security view the business may move
their CRM to cloud while store ERP in house server. IT and media purchasers are confined on
bandwidth and disk utilization issues as use of these facilities require interest from the clients. A
sudden increase of interest may force the organization to locate more servers which they will need to
maintain that would increase their fixed and operational expenses to huge level. Rather the
organization may utilize the cloud technology in order to develop their content. This needs

Oryx And Crake Corruption
Wherever there is good in the world, there is deemed to be evil. Margaret Atwood established that
relationship while writing Oryx and Crake. Oryx, a free spirited loving individual, viewed the best for
the world. However, the post apocalyptic present is molded and formed by the immorality of one man:
Crake. Told through the eyes of Snowman, the characters of Oryx and Crake represent the good and
evil respectively. In the previous universe of Oryx and Crake, evilness and corruption are strongly
present in any direction. The online world encourages graphic and violent material that would be
highly prohibited in the modern world. From live executions in Asia (82) to animal snuff sites where
cats are torn apart by hand or frogs are stomped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it was unknown that Crake had a more devious and elaborate plan. Throughout his younger
years, Crake questioned the perception of life often asking What is reality? (83) and experimenting to
see the capability of science and to discover what can be created. From his study at Watson Crick,
Crake saw the potential creations that science was capable of. From ChickieNobs, chicken parts with a
high growth rate...built in (203), to wolvogs who are bred to deceive (205), the possibilities are
endless. From there, Crake went on to develop his Paradise project. At first glance, Crake s main
initiative, a single pill named the BlyssPluss that would protect the user against all known sexually
transmitted diseases, (294) appeared to be harmless and life changing. However, similar to the other
corporations techniques, Creake did not create a cure. He created a fatal disease: a disease to cause the
worldwide plague (326). Throughout, Crake foreshadows his grand plan by discussing theoretical
scenarios with Jimmy. He becomes obsessed with the idea of how the elimination of one generation
could break the link in time between one generation and the next (223). Without a generation of
experienced and intelligent individuals, humanity stands no chance on surviving on its own.
Afterwards, it is simply game over forever

Rhetorical Analysis Of Albee s Albee
Albee uses a silly and humorous tone of voice. He uses strong language and arguments throughout his
text. It establishes a silly tone for the text. Albee establishes this tone by writing, What? F what up?
No. F what up? (Albee 41). This quote shows the tone that Albee establishes throughout the text. It
also connects to the sexuality taboo that is in today s society. Albee s use of the the word F is often
referred to as sexual intercourse. Albee is highlighting how there s a certain taboo regarding sexuality.
Thompson writes his text with a candid type of tone. He narrates the story by describing what he goes
through by using strong and direct language. For example, he talks about the drug use that he and his
attorney indulged in. As seen in the quote, the only real cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and
then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas (Thompson 4). This quote shows Thompson s
erratic and candid tone. This quote also provides a deeper meaning. By Thompson describing his drug
addiction, it shows how today s society is dwelling in over consumption. Thompson s drug addiction
is a representation of today s excess consumption. Thompson s representation of today s society is also
found when he describes the drive from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the drug and gambling
central Las Vegas. He describes the act of driving for hours while taking all sorts of drugs. This shows
how crazy he is and the excess of consumption. He uses

Analysis Of Finding Nemo And Finding Nemo
After nap we do Scream every day, but not Saturdays or Sundays. We clear our throats and climb up
on Table to be nearer Skylight, holding hands not to fall. As the narrator to this novel Jack gives a
glimpse to the reader of his life that is truly horrific, he and his Ma has been doing for the last seven
years in her confinement and seclusion from the outside world since her kidnapping. She hopes that
finally someone will hear her and her son secluded and lonely in this shed and finally let them out. Ma
and her son face loneliness and helplessness in the novel Room , and also Marlin and Nemo from
Finding Nemo . Room is a novel based on the kidnapping of a young woman named by our narrator
Jack as Ma when she was only 19. This woman, after being trapped in an small area to small to move
and live for seven years. Until the birth of her son, Ma spends her days in absolute solitary, cut off
from the outside world in the 11x11 shed she was forced to call home. Both the text and movie share
in similarities to the theme of loneliness where Marlin is a newly married and fathered hundreds of
newly conceived clownfish eggs. Unfortunately his new chapter of his life was altered due to a savage
attack by a barracuda leaving his wife and hundreds of children dead. After looking at the horrible
sight of the death of his wife and children, he finds a single broken egg that saved him that he vows to
raise and love with all his being. In both the movie and text, the birth of a child

Sciencebuddies Preventing Distracted Driver
In the introduction of Sciencebuddies, the author wrote, The purpose of these laws is to prevent traffic
accidents due to driver inattention.
Based on what the author stated in the introduction of Distracted Driver, Driving a motor vehicle is
serious business and you need to be well rested and attentive in order to be a safe driver.
Distracted when your trying to focus on something, but your focused on something else.
Risk when your putting your self, a friend, a family member, or even a stranger in danger.
Focus when one of your 5 senses is on something else.
If there are more distractions, then game time will decrease, because of the distractions.

International Accounting Standards Codification System
In 2006, the FASB issued Statement No. 157, Fair Value Measurements (SFAS 157), and in 2007
issued Statement No. 159. The objective of SFAS 157 is to increase the consistency, comparability and
transparency of fair value measurements used in financial reporting by establishing a single
authoritative definition of fair value, a framework for measuring fair value, and fair value financial
statement disclosure requirements (http://www.iasplus.com/en/binary/usa/0808fairvalueupdate.pdf).
In 2011, the FASB and the IASB substantially converged the guidance for measuring and disclosing
fair value under US GAAP and IFRS through the issuance of two standards: Topic 820 and IFRS 13.
These standards are the current authoritative guidance on fair ... Show more content on

As discussed above, the publishing of either the standards under the GAAP (SFAS 157 and SFAS 159)
or the new standards from the convergence project (Topic 820 and IFRS 13) have the same intention
to strengthen the consistency, comparability and transparency of fair value accounting. No matter fair
value accounting is under GAAP or under IFRS, they have in common to reduce complexity of
accounting, enhance understanding and reduce motivation to structure transactions so as to achieve
certain accounting treatments for assets and obligations. The fair value standards emphasize that fair
value is a market based measurement and hierarchy of inputs is used in determining fair value
estimates. The hierarchy gives the highest priority to observable market inputs and the lowest priority
to unobservable market inputs. Especially Level 1 inputs transparently reflect fair value. At this point,
fair value makes a company s balance sheet more transparent and improves the investors insight.
Investors may prefer the fair value methodology because it s easier for them to determine what a
company is really worth when its assets are valued at prevailing market prices. Moreover, basing on
the available and comparable price data, companies can

Essay On Flesh And Blood So Cheap By Albert Marin
Have you ever wondered when the fire extinguisher was made? Well in the novel Flesh and Blood So
Cheap: The Triangle Fire And Its Legacy by Albert Marrin shows how the catastrophe led by a flame
that grew massive burning the triangle shirtwaist factory without use of the extinguisher, it also shows
that the owners don t tolerate safety standards or use them. Albert Marrin uses two types of evidence,
one being implicit and the other being explicit, both of them shows how the evidence can be inferred
or just stated directly out of the text. Additionally, using implicit, we can infer how the factory is
taking safety standards as careless goal. In the text, it states that Those who reached the ninth floor
stairway door found it locked. with this evidence we can infer using implicit that it implies a major
concern on the people leaving them with no way to escape except to die. Another failed mistake that
we can imply in the text states A person falling from the ninth floor struck with a force equal to eleven
thousand pounds. and another is Nothing! No ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sub title Holocaust ultimately means destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused
by fire or nuclear war. This we can find explicit because Albert Marrin uses the term Holocaust to
indicate that the tragedy that has happened had fire involved that killed many people. Another explicit
evidence in the text is A person falling from the ninth floor struck with a force equal to eleven
thousand pounds. Some jumpers bounced off the nets, dying when they hit the ground; others tore the
nets, crashing through to the pavement. this disaster had been caused by the unsure and unsafety of
hazardness by the attempted rescue by the firemen leaving death to the workers. This we can smally
infer that the firemen had not been prepared for this kind of situation had no care for human value or

Comparing Poems Mother To Son And Success Is Counted...
The poems Mother to Son and Success Is Counted Sweetest seem to be illustrating their view of the
meaning of life and success in one way or another, but from different perspectives. Langston Hughes
describes the hardships of life by using an old, worn down stairwell as a conceit.¨Life for me ain t
been no crystal stair. It s had tacks in it, And splinters And boards were torn up, And places with no
carpet on the floor Bare.¨Langston is talking about the poor in this message, specifically poor black
Americans who were facing injustice and civil rights issues in Langston Hughes lifetime of living in
the Harlem Renaissance. Langston was trying to explain some of the adversities they would have to
adhere to on the road to success.

Dickinson s poem comes from a different overview. Dickinson starts with a figure who has already
reached the pinnacle of success. In addition, this person has never had to endure the climb like the
community in Langston s poem ¨Mother to Son.¨ Dickinson explains that without the obstacles to
success and the failure that goes along with it, one cannot truly appreciate what they have. Dickinson s
characters come from wealth and royalty. Plus have been given success, but the purple host isn t the
star in this poem. The one Dickinson wants to have the vision on is not the king, but the dying man on
the battlefield. The dying man on the battlefield has failed, he s about to lose his life and he will never
be able to reach success, never be able to succeed. So Dickinson s point is the person who will never
succeed will always appreciate the true meaning of success over a person who success is just given to
them. It s sort of some kind of irony in a

  • 3. Television s Impact On Television One part of television that has always been a constant in a lot of programs is family. More particular, the family sitcom and family dramas have been around for years and are still around today. Family television shows are great programs for everyone due to the fact of being very family oriented. However, the way families were portrayed when television first started out has changed drastically with how some families are portrayed now. The evolution of the way families are viewed on screen and off screen can be portrayed throughout the years on television. One television show that aired from 1951 1957 was the series I Love Luc. This series was about a husband and a wife and their lives together. They were a typical family in the 50s. Lucy stayed at home being a housewife at first while Ricky would go out to work (Smith). The series even showed them sleeping in separate beds at that time because we as the audience weren t allowed to see a couple sleep in the same bed. Later in the series, Lucy became pregnant which wasn t a very common thing to show on television, especially at that time (Garrison). Typical families shown on television in the 1950s were a mother, father, and their children. One show that started to break the mold was My Three Sons which premiered in 1960 and aired until 1972. My Three Sons was about a widowed father raising his three sons on his own with the help of the kids grandfather (Taflinger). In a matter of only ten years the family sitcom had ... James Watt had to entrepreneurs to help him with his steam engine invention John Roebuck was his first but he went bankrupt. Matthew Boulton took over from John and formed a great partnership with James Watt called Boulton and Watt, which lasted nearly 25 years. In 1800 Richard Trevithick invented a high pressure steam engine these engines were smaller and lighter than the previous atmospheric engines because they didn t use a condenser and had smaller cylinders. Steam engines were used as transport engines in trains (locomotives) and canals. This was so it would be easier and faster to transport goods and people. Steam engines were used in factories in machines. They were used in the textile industry to power looms and spinning machines. Coal powered steam engines which were needed to make iron. Iron improved, fixed and made tools and machines and was also used to build bridges and ships.

Thatcher s policies of the 1970s and 1980s would go on to shape the nation well into the millennium. This essay will aim to analyze the extent to which New Labour having been elected in 1997 continued the implementation of Thatcher s policies. The many reasons why New Labour under Tony Blair continued Thatcherite policies will be explored throughout this paper. Once analysis of New Labour has been explored, this paper will attempt to narrow the consequences of Thatcher s policy continuation to confer whether those policies were beneficial or destructive to British political discourse and British society. It is important to give a brief explanation as to what is meant by the term Thatcherism in British political discourse. Thatcherism according to Heffernan suggests that there are several contradictory explanations to the meaning of Thatcherism. He contends that Thatcherism could be explained via a short hand description of what the Thatcher led Conservative governments did at any one time or similarly it could be explained as a popular political movement, a policy style; a form of leadership; or.an ideological project, a vehicle which advanced a post social democratic neo liberal political agenda (Heffernan, 2001). A Post colonialist Reading of the Short Story Mr. Know All Somerset Maugham s short story Mr. Know All is a quintessential text about othering, or a psychological operation upon which colonialist ideology depends. Specifically, I will argue that Maugham s story reveals the colonialist ideology lurking at the core of British cultural identity and that colonialist psychology is a pervasive presence in the narrative as a whole, because that psychology is central to the characterization of the narrator. The story is told from the perspective of a person whose culture group has long been stereotypically considered privileged. Therefore, readers need to be cautious of an unreliable narrator and potential bias and prejudice that might be involved in the first person narrative. But if this is true, is Koko really showing any such ability? In short no. What Koko can in fact do, is manipulate her vocal chords to create an assortment of sounds. • 22. Poverty and the American Dream The American Dream as defined by James Truslow Adams in 1931 is a national ethos of the United States in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work. Truslow states life should be worse and poorer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of Independence which proclaims that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. What he wanted to contribute was broad interpretive sensibility that emphasized important historical themes. For Adams, no theme was more important than what he called that American dream of better, richer, and happier life for all our of citizens of every rank, which is the greatest contribution we have made to the thought and welfare of the world. That dream of hope has been present since we became and independent nation, each generation has seen an uprising of ordinary Americans to save that dream from the forces which appeared to be overwhelming it. While Adams may have the coined the phrase of the American Dream, it is apparent that the notion of the Dream was a prevalent long before the term was engrained in the oral culture of American society. The roots of the American Dream is evident even in the composition of the Declaration of Independence. Written in 1776, Cullen suggests that the Declaration of Independence is directly worded to invoke a spirit of the anything is possible at any moment. He states: Maybe saying that the Declaration is central in contemporary American life seems odd, since a few of us have actually read the entire document. • 23. Birches By Robert Frost Analysis Robert Frost s Birches depicts the relationships between imagination and reality, liberation and confinement, and youth and adulthood. The speaker of the poem battles with his current life adulthood, and uses his reminiscences of adolescence and his imagination as a means to escape from his reality for a period of time. Frost uses three different themes that he presents in three sections to represent his emotions: nature, a young boy, and a mature man who has the opportunity to reflect on his past and current life. The use of nature helps the narrator of the poem to connect his life to his surroundings. His connection with nature helps him come to a realization about his life, which ultimately sparks the use of his avid imagination. The young boy represents the speaker in his youth where he was free, had adventures, and had no demanding obligations. He represents a state of full possibility where the narrator was able to explore any opportunity without harsh consequences. The man at the end of the poem, is the speaker who is taking his whole life into consideration. He is analyzing all the positives and negatives and figuring out the overall meaning of his life. Ultimately, his reflection leads him to come to the conclusion that he took his youth for granted. Each section of the speaker s life symbolizes his sense of yearning for adolescence and an escape from the restrictions of his current state of life, adulthood. Out of the 55 delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention, only 39 signed the Constitution due to multiple objections from the Anti Federalists, but these objections were moderately absolved during the ratification process. Delegates who did not sign the Constitution had reasonings that ranged from simply going home early to outright protest. One of the reasons was that the Constitution lacked a Bill of Rights. Individuals who did not sign because of this included Elbridge Gerry, Richard Henry Lee, and George Mason. These men believed the Constitution lacked sufficient protection of individual rights and felt a Bill of Rights should be added. Anti Federalists believed that aspects such as the necessary and proper clause and the supremacy clause gave too much power to the central government and violated state s rights. The Anti Federalists also had issues that were specific to each branch. The Constitution gave the President the power to pardon, the Anti Federalists believed this awarded the executive branch too much power and created a leader similar to Britain s monarch. They argued that legislature had too few of seats, and that senators term limits were too long. The judicial branch was granted the right to review the Constitution, and the Anti Federalists thought the branch would manipulate and interpret the Constitution to benefit themselves. Furthermore, Anti Federalists believed that the national government was too far from the average citizen and wouldn t be able to respond to concerns on a state and local basis. Because the Constitution was written behind closed doors, the Anti Federalists believed that the American people should know exactly what rights the new document gave them, therefore a Bill of Rights was necessary. The federalists responded to these objections in many ways. One of the most memorable was the Federalist Papers written by John Jay, James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton. These papers outlined the benefits of a strong central government in order to persuade New York to ratify the Constitution. Debates between Federalists and Anti Federalists broke out in multiple states, thus leading to a decelerated ratification process. Compromise between these two factions came through promises to add a Bill of Rights and create a better system of checks and balances leading to more states ratifying the ... There were four main crops on southern plantations, and these crops were rice, sugar, cotton, and rice. While multiple crops were grown on the plantations, each plantation chose one cash crop as their main crop. Yet even in a system of assimilation, where individual needs, desires, and tastes were suppressed, slaves managed to supplement their food supplies through gardening, gathering, fishing, and hunting (Shiflett 44). In the novel, many different food choices were presented to the reader. They made rice with molasses, which embodies two of the major crops at that time. They also describe them as evildoers that associate with the Devil, kidnap children, and murder others. In this modern time, the government has increasingly taken away power and authority from parents over their children. • 43. Nanotechnology For Enhanced Solar Conversion Egbo Kingsley O. PhD in Nanostructures for Enhanced Solar Conversion Research Proposal Abstract The possibilities of employing a nanoscale metal topography that will employ surface plasmon excitation phenomena towards improving the light absorption efficiency of organic solar cells will be investigated. This goal is achievable by analytically designing and producing optically active nanostructures which are used to excite surface plasmons at the wavelengths range dictated by the sun in order to support the confinement of light beyond the diffraction limit, thus leading to high weighted enhancements over a wider range of the solar spectrum. This can be achieved by employing nanostructured materials with unique properties tailored for the materials characteristics of II VI nanorod systems across the solar spectrum capable of creating significant enhancements while preventing unwanted thermal losses. Also external quantum efficiency measurements on the nanostructured cells will be made, this is expected to demonstrate a substantial photon absorption enhancement across the solar spectrum. Finally, key insights into light absorption and trapping mechanisms in these plasmon enhanced cells through a combination of three dimensional finite difference time domain simulations, optical absorption, and external quantum efficiency measurements will be obtained Introduction The increasing population of the world is making demands on the availability of energy supply and research has ... (Impact of cloud computing in supply chain, 2015) The difference between distributed computing with individualized computing is that the cloud technology gives an extensive variety of capacities. The usage of cloud built solutions depends on different elements, for example, the division in which the business works; the practicality of porting existing parts on cloud, size of the organization, and the area of customers and so on. It helps in reducing the time required as well as minimize the fixed cost of the company. Therefore, it is not logistic to make a single explanation of implementation of cloud computing technology. For example, a newly started company can adopt the cloud based solution easily but it is difficult for existing firms to shift their supply chain to cloud technology. Let consider a business has both ERP and CRM solutions, as concern from security view the business may move their CRM to cloud while store ERP in house server. IT and media purchasers are confined on bandwidth and disk utilization issues as use of these facilities require interest from the clients. A sudden increase of interest may force the organization to locate more servers which they will need to maintain that would increase their fixed and operational expenses to huge level. Rather the organization may utilize the cloud technology in order to develop their content. This needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oryx, a free spirited loving individual, viewed the best for the world. However, the post apocalyptic present is molded and formed by the immorality of one man: Crake. From ChickieNobs, chicken parts with a high growth rate...built in (203), to wolvogs who are bred to deceive (205), the possibilities are endless. From there, Crake went on to develop his Paradise project. However, similar to the other corporations techniques, Creake did not create a cure. He created a fatal disease: a disease to cause the worldwide plague (326). Throughout, Crake foreshadows his grand plan by discussing theoretical scenarios with Jimmy. He becomes obsessed with the idea of how the elimination of one generation could break the link in time between one generation and the next (223). The objective of SFAS 157 is to increase the consistency, comparability and transparency of fair value measurements used in financial reporting by establishing a single authoritative definition of fair value, a framework for measuring fair value, and fair value financial statement disclosure requirements (http://www.iasplus.com/en/binary/usa/0808fairvalueupdate.pdf). As discussed above, the publishing of either the standards under the GAAP (SFAS 157 and SFAS 159) or the new standards from the convergence project (Topic 820 and IFRS 13) have the same intention to strengthen the consistency, comparability and transparency of fair value accounting. No matter fair value accounting is under GAAP or under IFRS, they have in common to reduce complexity of accounting, enhance understanding and reduce motivation to structure transactions so as to achieve certain accounting treatments for assets and obligations. The fair value standards emphasize that fair value is a market based measurement and hierarchy of inputs is used in determining fair value estimates. The hierarchy gives the highest priority to observable market inputs and the lowest priority to unobservable market inputs. Especially Level 1 inputs transparently reflect fair value. At this point, fair value makes a company s balance sheet more transparent and improves the investors insight. Investors may prefer the fair value methodology because it s easier for them to determine what a company is really worth when its assets are valued at prevailing market prices. Moreover, basing on the available and comparable price data, companies can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well in the novel Flesh and Blood So Cheap: The Triangle Fire And Its Legacy by Albert Marrin shows how the catastrophe led by a flame that grew massive burning the triangle shirtwaist factory without use of the extinguisher, it also shows that the owners don t tolerate safety standards or use them. Albert Marrin uses two types of evidence, one being implicit and the other being explicit, both of them shows how the evidence can be inferred or just stated directly out of the text. Additionally, using implicit, we can infer how the factory is taking safety standards as careless goal. In the text, it states that Those who reached the ninth floor stairway door found it locked. with this evidence we can infer using implicit that it implies a major concern on the people leaving them with no way to escape except to die. Another failed mistake that we can imply in the text states A person falling from the ninth floor struck with a force equal to eleven thousand pounds. and another is Nothing! No ... Some jumpers bounced off the nets, dying when they hit the ground; others tore the nets, crashing through to the pavement. this disaster had been caused by the unsure and unsafety of hazardness by the attempted rescue by the firemen leaving death to the workers. Dickinson s characters come from wealth and royalty. Plus have been given success, but the purple host isn t the star in this poem. The one Dickinson wants to have the vision on is not the king, but the dying man on the battlefield. The dying man on the battlefield has failed, he s about to lose his life and he will never be able to reach success, never be able to succeed.
