Ruben s The Rape Of The Sabine Women
Ruben s The Rape of the Sabine Women is estimated to have been painted between 1635 to 1640 in
Antwerp. It is an oil painting on oak and it is 169.9 cm x 236.2 cm. Rubens shows the story when the
Romans invited the Sabine tribe to the games in Rome. At the signal, Romulus, the king, the Romans
carry off the women. The background shows the later episode of when the Sabines attacked the
Romans and were defeated. It is currently at the National Gallery in London, England.
The painting is set like a square with different scenes on each side with space in the middle. In the
background there is a blue sky. There is a dome structure and before it is a covered arch with four
columns on its side. A railing is shown to separate two scenes in the painting in front of the arch. On
the left side of the painting, it appears to be the exterior wall of a building. ... Show more content on

All of the men have helmets with a type of design on top that looks much like a mohawk. One man is
on a horse. There is a man beside him facing the right with a spear in his raised arm. It appears that
there is another man behind him there is a shield from behind him, but we cannot see his face. There
are two men, each playing a long trumpet with sashes across their chest. They are elevated, as if
standing on something, facing to the left toward the men with helmets.
On the left side of the painting there are about sixteen different women, which takes up most of the
left side. They are pushed together on a higher pedestal. They are bending and twisting in exaggerated
forms. Some are holding each other while others their arms flying in all directions trying to escape or
fight off the men dressed in armor with shields that are on the ground floor grabbing at

There is one prominent artist that was known to be inspiration of Cole s work named Asher B.
Durand. Asher B. Durand was an artist born in Maplewood, New Jersey and shared the same style of
art the Thomas did, Asher was a matter of fact the one to discover Thomas after Thomas s catskill
painting collection, their aspirations to do big things and connected style of art led both Asher and
Thomas to become best friends through the durations of both of their lives. The second inspiration of
Thomas s work was the landscapes that he saw when traveling throughout Europe and the United
States, many of his most famous painting present a beautiful landscape but with a story, it was as if he
took the landscape and made it a fantasy world. Between the years 1829 1831 Cole returned to the
United Kingdom to study, spend time with his family and be closer to Italy and France, these years
treated Cole very well as he built his reputation and stature in this duration. In the winter of 1835 1836
Cole proceeded on his work of Catskills working on the collection of paintings called The Course of
Empire, but his views were more impactful with his concerns regarding the impact of industrialization
and its impact on the beautiful landscapes that inspired his work. Thereafter in 1836 Cole met a
woman in New York by the name of Maria Bartow and on the date November 22, 1836 Cole married
her in the house where he resided in Cedar Grove, 2 years pass and on the date January 1, 1838 Cole
and his wife Maria had then given birth to their first child named Theodore Alexander Cole. From
here on Cole continued his work and noticed he was becoming a public figure the only problem was

Native American Death Rituals
In this paper, we will discuss the different death rituals performed in different cultures. We view death
rituals from Native Americans, Africans, those of the Chinese decent, and endocannibalism from the
Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea. Death is universal to all people in every culture. Responses to how
one deals with death and dying differ greatly. Death rituals are usually based on beliefs. This can come
from religion, history, language, and art. Native American traditions as well as rituals may differ from
tribe to tribe. This is because each tribe may have different religious and spiritual beliefs. Although
this might be the case there are many common characteristics in Native American death rituals. One
belief that is common among ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today the Chinese population still follows these traditions with a few small exceptions of modern
times. All elders are given respect in the Chinese society, those living or deceased. There is a question
that still remains in this culture on how to prepare a funeral of unmarried adults and children. No
respect is given to a person who died as a bachelor or bachelorette, or if they did not have children.
They are not considered an elder and do not have children that prepare the funeral for them. Children
are also shown no respect because they do not have anyone to prepare their death ritual. They are left
at their funeral home and the family members preform these burials in silence. The children in
Chinese families prepare funerals for elders. It is considered proper for the children of the deceased to
go into debt in order to pay respect for the older people at the funeral. The body of the dead must be
washed with care, dusted with talcum powder, and dressed in the nicest clothes from the personal
wardrobe before being placed in the casket for burial. All of the other clothing that belongs to the
deceased elder must be burned. The deceased is never dressed in red because it is believed that it will
turn the corpse into a ghost. The body is placed on a yellow cloth with the face covered, and then the
body is covered with a blue cloth. All statues of deities are covered with red paper and all mirrors are
removed from site in the home when preparing the home for the death ritual. The mirror is removed so
that no one sees the coffin in the mirror. If someone sees the coffin in the mirror, it is believed that you
will have a death within your own family soon. A white cloth is hung in the doorway and a gong is
placed outside the door of the home of the deceased. If the person who is deceased is a male, it is

The Dysfunctional Family in Brontë’s Wuthering Heights...
The Dysfunctional Family in Brontë s Wuthering Heights Creating a haven from the cruel outside
world, families ideally provide protection and support for each of their members. In Emily Brontë s
Wuthering Heights, however, bitterness grows between the Earnshaws and the Lintons. Within these
two families, siblings rival for power and parents fail to fulfill their roles as caregivers. The
intertwining relationships of the Earnshaws and the Lintons are marked by physical abuse,
degradation, and emotional negligence. These reduce each of the family members life to a lonely and
meaningless journey though the cold and misty moors. Unforgiving as the moors that surround them,

Hareton is thus reduced to an inhuman it. It is not surprising, then, that Hareton is afraid of his father,
but Hindley is angered because this reminds him of his failure as a father. Declaring that Hareton
should be cropped like a fierce dog, Hindley drops his son over the railing of a staircase when the
latter shrinks away from him. He is unperturbed when Nelly exclaims: He hates you they all hate you
that s the truth! A happy family you have, and a pretty state you re come to! (77). Hindley does not
seem to comprehend that physical abuse leads not to love but to fear and hatred and ultimately,
alienation from his family. Edgar Linton, normally gentle, also uses physical violence when he fights
with Heathcliff over Catherine Earnshaw, now his wife Catherine Linton. Like Hindley, Edgar does
not realize that violence cannot produce love. His fight with Heathcliff results in Catherine s insanity
and her eventual death. Catherine, too, is not flawless. When Nelly, under Hindley s orders,
chaperones Edgar s visit with Catherine Earnshaw, Catherine is furious and strikes Nelly. When her
nephew Hareton weeps at this abusive display, Catherine seizes the child and shakes him. She then
strikes Edgar when he tries to stop her. The root of Catherine s violence is not the same as the one that
plague Hindley and Edgar: she does not physically hurt her family because she wants to be loved. She
feels that she is already loved by everyone, but she

Analysis Of Daniel Defoe s The Life And Adventures Of...
People have always wanted more power, wealth, or food than what was needed. This desire causes
greed in society. Greed in a culture or society will cause the destruction of that society. From Adam
and Eve consuming of the fruit from the tree of knowledge to the failure of companies and businesses
in today s society, the desire for wants instead of needs has a negative impact (Clark par. 5). In 1719,
Daniel Defoe had written a novel in which a main theme is greed. In Daniel Defoe s, The Life and
Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, begins a journey packed with
many misfortunes all over the world, caused by his desire to have more than he needs. Although he
has a life filled with misfortune, Crusoe is able to persevere through the trails placed before him by
humbling himself and properly classifying his wants and needs. Greed will cause downfalls and trials
but humility will aid in recovering after the downfalls. In The Life and Adventures of Robinson
Crusoe, before the many misfortunes begin, Crusoe lived a good life in the upper station of low life.
His family was not rich, yet they were not poor, they prayed to have neither poverty nor riches (Defoe
2). Throughout his life, Crusoe s father had taught him:
the middle station of life was calculated for all kind of virtues and all kind of enjoyments; that peace
and plenty were the handmaids of a middle fortune; that temperance, moderation, quietness, health,
society, all agreeable

Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker
Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New
Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the
acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or
is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the
book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable
members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote
did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He
simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact.
Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that
otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and
for years to come.
Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use
of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning
highly trusted individuals and organizations. For example, he says while describing Alvin Dewey, the
head of the case for the state as being a former sheriff of Finney County and F.B.I. Special Agent.

The purpose of LPC is to reduce the bit rate. The LPC provides parameters for a filter that mimics the
vocal tract. The signal passes through this filter, leaving behind a residual signal. Speech is encoded at

GSM Subscriber Services
There are two basic types of services offered through GSM: telephony (also referred to as tele
services) and data (also referred to as bearer services). Telephony services are mainly voice services
that provide subscribers with the complete capability (including necessary terminal equipment) to
communicate with other subscribers. Data services provide the capacity necessary to transmit
appropriate data signals between two access points creating an interface to the network. In addition to
normal telephony and emergency calling, the following subscriber services are supported by GSM:
* Dual tone multi frequency (DTMF) DTMF is a tone signaling scheme often used for various control
purposes via the telephone network, such as remote control of an answering machine. GSM supports
full originating DTMF.
* Facsimile group III GSM supports CCITT Group 3 facsimile. As standard fax machines are
designed to be connected to a telephone using analog signals, a special fax converter connected to the
exchange is used in the GSM system. This enables a GSM connected fax to communicate with any
analog fax in the network.
* Short message services A convenient facility

Crevecoeur s Letters From An American Farmer
In Letters from an American Farmer, Michel Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur gives his description of
what an American is by describing the need and desire of independence; the desire to work hard and
smart; and the respect for oneself and others. The Europeans that come to America are shown what
independence is like. America might look the same as their native country, but the actions and
manners are different. The citizens are different because they are free. There is ...no aristocratical
families, no courts, no kings, no bishops, no ecclesiastical dominion... (Crevecoeur 310). The rich and
the poor are not separated like they are in their native country. The people that come to this continent
are now cultivators of the earth (Crevecoeur 310). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crevecoeur compares men to plants in his letters. Men in America are flourishing because they have
been transplanted to a new soil unlike the soil in England that is rotten, and the plants wither away.
There is an industry in the civilized settlements of America and these Americans work hard to make
that work. The great woods is a place in America that is not industrialized and it not very helpful in
making Americans prosperous. He finds living this way is barbaric and harmful to oneself and to
others. He believes that eating wild meat alters a man s demeanor. Men who like the life of hunting
degenerate. They fall into bad luck which then leads into want and want leads into wrongdoing. These
types of people do not have a place to worship which doesn t them or anyone else. Americans are a
respectful bunch in the way of religion. Since there are several different ethnic backgrounds, there are
several different beliefs in religion. When any considerable number of a particular sect happen to
dwell contiguous to each other, they immediately erect a temple, and there worship the Divinity
agreeably to their own peculiar ideas.

Kant Turning Points
Alper Özesmer
Preliminary Study
Question 1: What are the three versions of the Copernican Turn?
Accordingly, Kant s aim is to rescue metaphysics from an endless war by embarking a turning point in
metaphysics as Nicolaus Copernicus did in cosmology. Copernicus denied the Ptolemaic geocentric
cosmological system because of its insufficiency about the explanation of the movement of the
planets. He brought a solution to the problem of the explaining movements of the planets by rejecting
the assumption that the Earth was motionless and he suggested that motions of the planets are the
result of the observer. With this change in perspective Copernicus tried to give a solid foundation to
cosmology. In regard to this point, in the Preface to Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The world conforms to our modes of knowing and we know it only as it appears to us. According to
Kant, our knowledge begins with experience but does not arise out of experience ; experience is
already determined by the subject s a priori modes of knowledge. In other words, the objects of
experience are already conditioned by the subject s constitution and what human reason knows as
necessary and universal is what it has already put into experience. Simply, that means all our
experience is synthetically produced and he locates the origin of these productions in our faculties. To

This article discusses open air preaching and its significance in history. The article describes open air
preaching as being antiquated and akin to a preacher putting on a performance. Open air preaching
and performance are fully explained as existing from the early church to present day, and beyond the
confines of what is termed traditional preaching.
The article describes the author at the time of this writing (2009), had his primary focus towards his
PhD, thesis, at the University of Edinburgh.
This article raises awareness of the historic value of open air preaching, being seen as radical, in no
way limits it to being a method utilized by such as Jesus Christ, Paul the Apostle, and in modern times
Rev. Billy Graham. It is a great article for those that aspire to enter the ministry at the grassroots level
and beyond.

Lenin s The Bolshevik Party
While organizing the Bolshevik party in the lead up to the October 1917 insurrection, Lenin navigated
the fundamental contradictions of socialism with relative ease. In Lenin s April Theses, published after
his return to Russia, he advocated for a transfer of all state power to the hands of the proletariat and
the poorest sections of the peasants. When compared to the positions of Lenin s fellow Bolsheviks in
April of 1917, he appeared radically committed to Marxist ideology. Indeed, Suny states that until

Time Value of Money Paper
Time Value of Money Paper In order to understand how to deal with money the important idea to
know is the time value of money. Time Value of Money (TVM) is the simple concept that a dollar that
someone has now is worth more than the dollar that person will receive in the future, this is because
the money that the person holds today is worth more because it can be invested and earn interest (Web
Finance, Inc., 2007). The following paper will explain how annuities affect TVM problems and
investment outcomes. The issues that impact TCM will also be discussed: Interest rates and
compounding (with two problems), present value, future value, opportunity cost, annuities and the rule

Opportunity cost is another important concept in making financial decisions. For example, if an asset
such as capital is used for one purpose, the opportunity cost is the value of the next best purpose the
asset could have been used for (Web Finance, Inc., 2007). Opportunity cost can also be referred to as
rate of return. A rate of return is the total income per period per dollar invested (Brealey, Myers
Marcus, 2003). To do this the formula i = ( FV / PV) (1/n) 1 can be used (Getobjects.com, 2004).
Opportunity cost is the benefit or cash flow forgone as a result of an action (Brealey, Myers Marcus,
2003). An annuity is a sequence of equally spaced levels of cash flows (Brealey, Myers Marcus,
2003). Some examples are car payments, loans, mortgages, or utilities. Annuities can be set monthly,
bi monthly, weekly, quarterly or annually. The payments or receipts occur at the end of each period for
an ordinary annuity while they occur at the beginning of each period for an annuity due
(Getobjects.com, 2004). There are two places that annuities fall under, present and future. The present
value of an ordinary annuity is the value of equally spaced payments in the future (Brealey, Myers
Marcus, 2003). Which can be calculated as PVoa = PMT [(1 (1 / (1 + i)n)) / i] PVoa = Present Value of
an Ordinary Annuity, PMT = Amount of each payment, i = Discount Rate per Period, and n = Number
of Periods (Getobjects.com, 2004). The present value of an annuity

Beethoven Influence On Society
After taking the online Music Appreciation class it has inspired me to appreciate different musical
genres. I really enjoyed learning about the many great composers and the different eras of music that
greatly influenced our society. Music is a beautiful form of art and it is something most of us enjoy. It
can really help in many ways, such as bringing people together or it can simply help us get through
stressful situations in life. Sometimes when I am really stressed out I will listen to music to help me
relax and get my mind off things for awhile. Music has been around for thousands of years throughout
those years there has been many talented composers who have had a great influence on many
composers throughout history. In this essay I will discuss how Ludwig Van Beethoven is known to be
one of the best composers of his time and how the classical period was a moment in musical history
that I found to be very fascinating. I will also discuss how Music Appreciation has changed the way I
apperceive and appreciate the varieties of music throughout history.

Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall
Leigh s statement that The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor must
never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if they were
neighbours seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that is so present
in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly bothered by
any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character
acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some sort of impenetrable
barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the aims of theatre and
performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed barrier with a variety

autobiographical in nature as Plautus who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve the goal of
entertaining the audience now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his original role, in
order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of referencing of events that
occur outside the play such as the nature of Plautus true identity is never stated outright in the play,
but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were aware of such knowledge. In the
context of Leigh s garden fence analogy, this would be the equivalent of the neighbour winking over
the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without ever actually mentioning

Essay about Product Red
1. Discuss the four components of corporate social responsibility and how they relate to a charitable
campaign such as (Product) RED. (Product) RED shows their corporate social responsibility by
engaging different companies that have products that we as the consumers use every day. Also, by
engaging a great cause as the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa shows they are making an
effort to society to fight this devastating disease. (Product) RED showed their ethical and moral
responsibility to the companies by keep purpose of the campaign as the most important reason than

Yes I believe that a partnership with (Product) RED may help improve Gap s image. They treat the
campaign as a real business and they spend millions in marketing and which they have seen results. Is
it a sign that they are making a commitment to corporate social responsibility or do you agree with
critics who say their involvement is an attempt to spit shine the company s image while continuing to
do business as usual? I think that it is a sign that they are making a commitment to corporate social
responsibility because many companies would not spend millions of dollars on a cause marketing
campaign. Yes many critics think that by getting involved they are deviating from the other issues that
the company is facing. 3. Describe the various types of technology that have contributed to the media
coverage, marketing efforts, and public discussion on RED campaign. Many of the media coverage
have been through exposure by Oprah teaming up with Bono and walking down the Chicago s
Magnificent Mile together in 2006. It was a shopping trip that was seen around the world and it

I believe that the impact generated by this element towards the entertainment industry is significant,
principally in music. As people may have witnessed, the music industry has been a direct victim of the
digital era and piracy, leaving many questions about what might happen and forcing industry experts,
labels, artists and entrepreneurs to re think their marketing strategies and re invent themselves. As a
result, Streaming services like Pandora, Apple ITunes Match or Spotify came to the world as several
options for music consumption, yet I believe they are artist unfriendly, especially for emerging acts.
When a user wants to subscribe into any of these services, they are required to enter their credit card
details. In the case of Spotify, artists earn the sum of 0.07 cents per streaming; this means that they
will need around 50.000 plays to get $3.500. Unfavorable...
Is the action of paying by credit card through streaming services becoming the executioner of physical
sales? There is no certainty about that, yet it is evident that this invention has influenced in a way
people s behavior, a behavior that has made undoubtedly an impact on the entertainment industry. On
the other hand, there is still the old fashioned way merged with a digital era creation: ITunes store.

Australian Foreign Policy And Australia s Relations With...
Australian foreign policy is characterised by a series of significant issues that are all inter related. This
piece will focus on Australia s relationship with the US, Asylum Seeker policy and Australia s
relations with Asia.
Relationship with the US
Australia has had a long and close relationship with the United States.
US Australian relations are underpinned by the ANZUS treaty, finalised in 1951. The relationship is
underpinned by shared values, culture, social bonds and common strategic interests. However, the
partnership has become a problem within Australian foreign policy for a variety of reasons.
Firstly, there is concern regarding the responsibilities we have placed upon ourselves as an Ally.
Although we are not obligated to join the US in war, we are consistently following them into overseas
conflicts that we otherwise have no interest in. As it currently stands, Australia has fought in numerous
wars alongside the United States in the years since the conception of the ANZUS treaty, and we are
yet to win one. Australia appears to be under the impression that we are under the military protection
of the US, and this is often stated as a reason for maintaining close ties with the global power. This is
simply not the case; our partnership does not force either party to come to the aid of the other. The
United States will not come to our defence in the case of a conflict unless it is within their own
interests.
Secondly, our alliance with the US has placed a

Zinn Chapter 14
In chapter 14, War is the Health of the State , Zinn s underlying point that, during times of war,
nationalism prospers and subtle propaganda spreads through the country. To support his main idea,
Zinn showcases how patriotism was portrayed as being a responsibility of the American people, while
also bringing to light the concepts of the draft and the Espionage Act, and how many American people
were either thrown in jail or deported for daring to speak against the war.
One such way Zinn showcases these ideas is by bringing to light how, when Americans were not
rushing to enlist in the war, the United States with the help of Congress created the draft, and harshly
punished those who resisted and didn t fall in line with its orders. Enforced through an elaborate
propaganda campaign that focused around the idea of patriotism, a Committee on Public Information
was created to pursue Americans that the war was necessary and it was an American duty to serve in
the war. Despite of this, Zinn points out that there was still widespread resistance towards the draft,

Melita Hunter s Song Saa Private Island
There was a point, around 56 years ago, when the small towns along the salient southern Cambodian
coast were the height of style. After a near century of French rule, Cambodia became independent in
1953. By then, the population was over seven million, with most of the population being Buddhist.
Throughout this period the people kept holiday villas in Kep, an appealing village nearing the
Vietnamese border as well as in Sihanoukville. However, the country s serenity was torn to pieces in
1970 as Sihanouk was overthrown. The countries captivating coastal towns transformed into burnt out
villas, wilted wildlife and buildings scarred with sprays of bullet holes.

An Australian couple, Rory and Melita Hunter, founders of Song Saa Private Island Resort were not
daunted by the archipelago s erratic past. The couple fell in love with the islands located within the
warm, azure waters of the Gulf of Thailand, that nestle like glittering natural jewels. Song Saa,
Cambodia s first five stars resort opened in February 2012. It was during the couple s honeymoon
while exploring remote parts of Cambodia, when they came across the unscathed islands of the Koh

within the shimmering sea like lovers, and hence, earned the local name Song Saa , meaning the

The Italian Mafia And The Italian Mafia
America is known as the land of opportunity. For some, that meant the opportunity to grab what they
could with no fear of the law. In the early 1900s, the era of dizzying social change, anything seemed
possible. With the right street smarts and gumption to pull any job off, many immigrants rushed to
America to better their family s lives. Members of each family would do whatever possible to make
that household better, no matter the cost or consequence. This shifty attitude stemmed from many
years of family loyalty, well, that was the case of many Italians from Sicily. This exuberant can do
spirit coursed through America s immigrant filled cities, industrial heartland, and freewheeling west,
all fertile ground for empires to be built and money to be made. This was the birth of the mafia. There
were four prominent mafias in the beginning years of America, and they were the Italian mafia,
Russian mafia, Irish mafia, and the Jewish mafia. However, the focus of this paper will be solely
based on the Italian mafia, and how family honor, respect, drugs, money, and running from the law
created a fixation and aspiration on the American gangster image. When we think of the Italian Mafia,
we think of mobsters such as Joe Gallo, Tommy Lucchese, Charles Lucky Luciano and Al Capone.
These men left a legacy behind for the mafia to succeed, and history remembers their names. Yet these
sensational depictions of these men can take us only so far. The true story of the Mafia reveals both

has ventured to make the world a better place. In Earth s past, many different people and organizations
have strived to do good and create a positive impact on others lives. Mankind, as a whole, has chosen
to stay far from evil and make good decisions. Susan B. Anthony, Nelson Mandela, and the United
Nations organization are all significant examples of how humanity has chosen throughout history to
make good decisions. Anthony, Mandela, and the UN are all instances where a person or organization

Anthony was a woman who proves mankind chooses to make good choices. She chose to stick up not
only for herself, but all women whose rights were being denied. She stood for the equality of all
people, and she devoted her life to making a change in the way the world viewed both women and
slavery. Susan is an important historical figure who proves mankind cares about others and takes
notice of them. Susan chose to do good in the world by speaking out for equal rights, and mankind has
chosen to do good and listen to her. While some people may argue that Susan B. Anthony should not
have advocated for equality so strongly because, as a result, many laws had to be changed, Anthony is
one reason why American citizens have equal rights today. Without Anthony, women would not be
allowed to vote and would be viewed as ignoble compared to men. Laws had to change in order for
women and blacks to receive the rights they deserve, and someone had to make a stand to amend
them. Susan B. Anthony dedicated her life to campaigning for equal rights, especially for women, and
mankind should be grateful she

Is The American Dream Attainable Essay
The Distant American Dream Is the American Dream still attainable? Statistics have shown that over
the years children have found to succeed more than their parents did. They were able to attain higher
education and more job opportunities than the generation before. However, as the years passed by,
Americans became lazier and unmotivated to take all the opportunities presented. Money, jobs,
education, careers, and relations are all still attainable as long as the individual works for their
American Dream.. The American Dream could not exist without money to make it happen. In this
world humanity lives, in other words one must have the means to do that which one wishes. People

Men will then be seen continually to change their track for fear of missing the shortest cut to
happiness. (Tocqueville, Alexis). By not continuing the education track for a career and grasping

like a destination. Would you take a straight path or would you take all the roads leading there? One
must have the appropriate education to achieve in the career wanted. To truly attain the American
Dream one must have the backing of family. Without their support it is a long and lonely road which
not many complete. In 1925, Fitzgerald wrote With all the glorious parties Gatsby threw no one was

American Dream may still be attainable. The dream of all Americans is a crucial thread in the country

Contributions Of Zora Neale Hrston
The Harlem Renaissance was a time of a cultural explosion of music, theatre, art, and writing. Many
famous writers and musicians came from this time era. Among them being the now famed Zora Neale
Hurston, author of novels such as Their Eyes Were Watching God, Mules, and Men, and Dust Tracks
on a Road. The Harlem Renaissance was a time of rebirth for the silenced African Americans of the
1920s, and this was when many artists, performers, and writers found their voice.
Zora Neale Hurston
Zora was born January 7, 1891, and was an American novelist, short story writer, folklorist, and
anthropologist known for her contributions to African American literature. Her career took off around
the time of the Harlem Renaissance. Hurston influenced many great writers such as Ralph Ellison,
Alice Walker, and Toni Cade Bambara. According to Robert Hemenway s The Harlem Renaissance
Remembered, Hurston s purpose in writing was to ¨. Remind the Renaissance especially its more
bourgeois members of the richness of the racial heritage.¨ (zoranealehurston.com) As a young woman
Zora did not see herself as black.. or rather as colored, she merely saw herself as Zora. In her essay
¨How It Feels To Be Colored Me¨ Zora describes how she was just herself until the day she moved to
Jacksonville, Florida from Eatonville, Florida. ¨I remember the very day that I became colored¨ (How
It Feels To Be Colored Me; paragraph 2) Hurston goes on to explain that Eatonville was an
exclusively colored town

This paper will discuss the current efforts at an HIV vaccine including different approaches to solving
the vaccine problem and how close scientists are. Scientists have been struggling with a HIV vaccine

Other scientists have similar methods to solving the Vaccine problem with clinical trials and patients.

Effects Of The Printing Press
European Renaissance The printing press drastically improved the advancement of the sciences,
spreading the information far and wide. It was indeed a product of the Renaissance, and being such,
the press served the interests of humanists by making available many ancient Greco Roman classics,
such as the works of Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, and Virgil, previously rare or unavailable in
western Christendom. The humanistic ideals of the Renaissance were printed and spread across
Europe, fostering a new spirit of artistic independence. This resurgence of the classics in print form
led to new classics to be written and printed, for example, in England, the Renaissance plays of
William Shakespeare were published at the time of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The printing press not only influenced the Renaissance, but it also influenced the Age of
Enlightenment, which is a direct transition of the ideas of the Renaissance, but were used to challenge
the Church.
Age of Enlightenment The impact of the printing press on science and technology was tremendous.
Before the press, scientists had worked in relative isolation. With the printing press came the
publishing of their results, which accelerated the rate of scientific discovery.
Many of these advances directly impacted the quality of life for large groups of people through
improved medicine, domestic and agricultural technology, and transportation. The birth of the modern
scientific revolution can be directly linked to early printed works by Nicolaus Copernicus, Johannes
Kepler, Galileo Galilei, and Isaac Newton, with his Principia (1687) as the crowning achievement of
this early phase.
Printing books provided a means that scientists could use to record, arrange, and preserve the
knowledge they d been studying. Now, scientists could join their research and ideas with their
predecessors, which would further advance their own.
In many ways, the social impact of Gutenberg s printing press culminated with the Enlightenment it
changed the way Europeans communicated. The printing press made it possible to bypass the
confusion engendered by linguistic

Cruise Ship Advertising For The 1970 s
Cruise Ship Advertising
Advertisements are the main source of communication that companies use to introduce their products
to consumers. We see these advertisements in different forms; such as, an ad on a magazine or
newspaper, a commercial on television, or on a billboard on the side of the road. We are constantly
introduced to many different kinds of ads with various types of appeals that companies believe will
get our attention and suit our needs. Cruise ship companies have been advertising throughout the
decades using different appeals to persuade consumers to try their ships as an option of traveling.
Although cruise ship traveling advertisements have changed through the decades, their appeals have
remained the same.

The second inspiration of Thomas s work was the landscapes that he saw when traveling throughout Europe and the United States, many of his most famous painting present a beautiful landscape but with a story, it was as if he took the landscape and made it a fantasy world. Between the years 1829 1831 Cole returned to the United Kingdom to study, spend time with his family and be closer to Italy and France, these years treated Cole very well as he built his reputation and stature in this duration. We view death rituals from Native Americans, Africans, those of the Chinese decent, and endocannibalism from the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea. Death is universal to all people in every culture. Responses to how one deals with death and dying differ greatly. Death rituals are usually based on beliefs. This can come from religion, history, language, and art. Today the Chinese population still follows these traditions with a few small exceptions of modern times. All elders are given respect in the Chinese society, those living or deceased. There is a question that still remains in this culture on how to prepare a funeral of unmarried adults and children. No respect is given to a person who died as a bachelor or bachelorette, or if they did not have children. They are not considered an elder and do not have children that prepare the funeral for them. Children are also shown no respect because they do not have anyone to prepare their death ritual. They are left at their funeral home and the family members preform these burials in silence. The children in Chinese families prepare funerals for elders. It is considered proper for the children of the deceased to go into debt in order to pay respect for the older people at the funeral. The body of the dead must be washed with care, dusted with talcum powder, and dressed in the nicest clothes from the personal wardrobe before being placed in the casket for burial. All of the other clothing that belongs to the deceased elder must be burned. The deceased is never dressed in red because it is believed that it will turn the corpse into a ghost. The body is placed on a yellow cloth with the face covered, and then the body is covered with a blue cloth. All statues of deities are covered with red paper and all mirrors are removed from site in the home when preparing the home for the death ritual. The mirror is removed so that no one sees the coffin in the mirror. If someone sees the coffin in the mirror, it is believed that you will have a death within your own family soon. The Dysfunctional Family in Brontë s Wuthering Heights Creating a haven from the cruel outside world, families ideally provide protection and support for each of their members. In Emily Brontë s Wuthering Heights, however, bitterness grows between the Earnshaws and the Lintons. Within these two families, siblings rival for power and parents fail to fulfill their roles as caregivers. The intertwining relationships of the Earnshaws and the Lintons are marked by physical abuse, degradation, and emotional negligence. These reduce each of the family members life to a lonely and meaningless journey though the cold and misty moors. It is not surprising, then, that Hareton is afraid of his father, but Hindley is angered because this reminds him of his failure as a father. Declaring that Hareton should be cropped like a fierce dog, Hindley drops his son over the railing of a staircase when the latter shrinks away from him. He is unperturbed when Nelly exclaims: He hates you they all hate you that s the truth! A happy family you have, and a pretty state you re come to! (77). Hindley does not seem to comprehend that physical abuse leads not to love but to fear and hatred and ultimately, alienation from his family. Edgar Linton, normally gentle, also uses physical violence when he fights with Heathcliff over Catherine Earnshaw, now his wife Catherine Linton. Like Hindley, Edgar does not realize that violence cannot produce love. His fight with Heathcliff results in Catherine s insanity and her eventual death. Catherine, too, is not flawless. When Nelly, under Hindley s orders, chaperones Edgar s visit with Catherine Earnshaw, Catherine is furious and strikes Nelly. When her nephew Hareton weeps at this abusive display, Catherine seizes the child and shakes him. She then strikes Edgar when he tries to stop her. The root of Catherine s violence is not the same as the one that plague Hindley and Edgar: she does not physically hurt her family because she wants to be loved. She feels that she is already loved by everyone, but she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Daniel Defoe s The Life And Adventures Of... People have always wanted more power, wealth, or food than what was needed. This desire causes greed in society. Greed in a culture or society will cause the destruction of that society. From Adam and Eve consuming of the fruit from the tree of knowledge to the failure of companies and businesses in today s society, the desire for wants instead of needs has a negative impact (Clark par. 5). In 1719, Daniel Defoe had written a novel in which a main theme is greed. In Daniel Defoe s, The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, begins a journey packed with many misfortunes all over the world, caused by his desire to have more than he needs. Although he has a life filled with misfortune, Crusoe is able to persevere through the trails placed before him by humbling himself and properly classifying his wants and needs. Greed will cause downfalls and trials but humility will aid in recovering after the downfalls. In The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, before the many misfortunes begin, Crusoe lived a good life in the upper station of low life. His family was not rich, yet they were not poor, they prayed to have neither poverty nor riches (Defoe 2). Throughout his life, Crusoe s father had taught him: the middle station of life was calculated for all kind of virtues and all kind of enjoyments; that peace and plenty were the handmaids of a middle fortune; that temperance, moderation, quietness, health, society, all agreeable ... • 7. Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact. Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and for years to come. Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning highly trusted individuals and organizations. For example, he says while describing Alvin Dewey, the head of the case for the state as being a former sheriff of Finney County and F.B.I. Special Agent. When describing the total ... Crevecoeur s Letters From An American Farmer In Letters from an American Farmer, Michel Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur gives his description of what an American is by describing the need and desire of independence; the desire to work hard and smart; and the respect for oneself and others. The Europeans that come to America are shown what independence is like. America might look the same as their native country, but the actions and manners are different. The citizens are different because they are free. There is ...no aristocratical families, no courts, no kings, no bishops, no ecclesiastical dominion... (Crevecoeur 310). The rich and the poor are not separated like they are in their native country. The people that come to this continent are now cultivators of the earth (Crevecoeur 310). ... • 11. Kant Turning Points Alper Özesmer Preliminary Study Question 1: What are the three versions of the Copernican Turn? Accordingly, Kant s aim is to rescue metaphysics from an endless war by embarking a turning point in metaphysics as Nicolaus Copernicus did in cosmology. Copernicus denied the Ptolemaic geocentric cosmological system because of its insufficiency about the explanation of the movement of the planets. He brought a solution to the problem of the explaining movements of the planets by rejecting the assumption that the Earth was motionless and he suggested that motions of the planets are the result of the observer. With this change in perspective Copernicus tried to give a solid foundation to cosmology. In regard to this point, in the Preface to Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, if an asset such as capital is used for one purpose, the opportunity cost is the value of the next best purpose the asset could have been used for (Web Finance, Inc., 2007). Opportunity cost can also be referred to as rate of return. A rate of return is the total income per period per dollar invested (Brealey, Myers Marcus, 2003). To do this the formula i = ( FV / PV) (1/n) 1 can be used (Getobjects.com, 2004). Opportunity cost is the benefit or cash flow forgone as a result of an action (Brealey, Myers Marcus, 2003). An annuity is a sequence of equally spaced levels of cash flows (Brealey, Myers Marcus, 2003). Some examples are car payments, loans, mortgages, or utilities. Annuities can be set monthly, bi monthly, weekly, quarterly or annually. The payments or receipts occur at the end of each period for an ordinary annuity while they occur at the beginning of each period for an annuity due (Getobjects.com, 2004). There are two places that annuities fall under, present and future. The present value of an ordinary annuity is the value of equally spaced payments in the future (Brealey, Myers Marcus, 2003). Which can be calculated as PVoa = PMT [(1 (1 / (1 + i)n)) / i] PVoa = Present Value of an Ordinary Annuity, PMT = Amount of each payment, i = Discount Rate per Period, and n = Number of Periods (Getobjects.com, 2004). Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly bothered by any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character acknowledgement of the audience. The relationship is underpinned by shared values, culture, social bonds and common strategic interests. However, the partnership has become a problem within Australian foreign policy for a variety of reasons. Firstly, there is concern regarding the responsibilities we have placed upon ourselves as an Ally. As it currently stands, Australia has fought in numerous wars alongside the United States in the years since the conception of the ANZUS treaty, and we are yet to win one. Australia appears to be under the impression that we are under the military protection of the US, and this is often stated as a reason for maintaining close ties with the global power.
