Hassan Sabbah s Influence On The World
Hassan Sabbah was born and raised in the city of Qom, Iran in the 1050s to a family of Twelver Shia.
Early in his life, his family moved to Rey, South Khorasan in the district of Tehran. Rey was a city
that had a history of radical thought since the 9th century. It was in this center of religious hub that
Hassan developed a keen interest in metaphysical matters and live by the Twelver code of instruction.
From the age of 7 to 17, he studied at home, and mastered palmistry, languages, philosophy,
astronomy and mathematics.
Rey was also home to the activities of Ismaili missionaries in the territory of Jibal located in western
Iran. At the time, Ismailism was a growing movement in Iran and other lands east of Egypt. The

This prompted his abandoning Rey and heading to Cairo in 1076.
Hassan took about 2 years to reach Cairo. Along the way he toured many other regions that did not fall
in the general direction of Egypt. Isfahan was the first city that he visited. He was hosted by one of the
missionaries of his youth, a man who had taught the youthful Hassan in Rey. His name was Resi
Abufasl and he further instructed Hassan.
From here he went to Caucasian Albania, current Azerbaijan, hundreds of miles to the north, and from
there through Armenia. In Armenia, Hassan was persecuted from the region, due to heated arguments
with priests.
He then turned south and traveled through Iraq, reached Damascus in Syria. He left for Egypt from
Palestine. Records exist, to date his arrival in Egypt at 30 August 1078. However, it is unclear how
long Hassan stayed in Egypt, it is said that the assumed amount of time is three years. After which he
attained the Grand Master status.
After achieving his status as Grand Master, Hassan began his claim over the fortress of the eagle s nest
also known as the fortress of Alamut in the Qazvin region in modern day Iran. The fortress of Alamut
was built in the year 865 by a king called Wah Sudan bin Marzuban. The importance of this castle was

Comparison of Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet Essay
Comparison of Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet was
made into a film by two different directors. Baz Luhrmann s to Franco Zeffirelli s interpretation of
Romeo and Juliet were very distinct and they both appeal to different age group audiences. Franco
Zeffirelli s version was the first film of Romeo and Juliet. It was produced in 1968 and it was quiet
typical, exactly what the audience would have expected the film of Romeo and Juliet to be. Unlike
Baz Luhrmann s version, which was very modern and appealed to a younger audience. Baz Luhrmann
s and Franco Zeffirelli s Romeo and Juliet are perfect examples of the very different perspectives you

The lighting of the scenes were similar, as both films portrayed the scene as lively and exciting at the
beginning. The only difference to the lighting is what was used to create the light. Franco Zeffirelli
used traditional items such as candles and torches. Baz Luhrmann used modern items such as
chandeliers and fireworks. The start of the party was similar in both films. Even though Franco
Zeffirelli s version of the scene started noisily, Baz Luhrmann s was noisier. Another similarity were
the camera angle shots. Both directors used a variety of camera shots, especially close up. Luhrmann s
production, the close ups were helping build tension by showing both families feelings and facial
expressions. Throughout the masked ball scene, there are a number of close ups on key characters. For
example, when Tybalt recognises Romeo at the party and when Romeo and Juliet first set eyes on each
other across the fish tank. Franco also uses close ups at these points of the scene. The setting of the
two films are also very contrasting. Zeffirelli s production was set in Tuscany and Umbria because
they were very authentic cities, which were a lot like the setting of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet,
would have been. However, the Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet was set in Mexico, Miami
beach. This was

Poverty In Loraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
Throughout American history, poverty has overwhelmed the inner cities, causing families to face
everyday issues such as finances with regards to food, schooling, and extra activities or utilities.
However, these circumstances can also test a family and push them to their breaking point. The topic
of poverty is evident in Loraine Hansberry s play that takes place in the late 1950s. As the play A
Raisin in the Sun progresses, the characters develop as a whole, enhancing symbolism specifically
Mama s plant that represent the family. To begin the play, a young man named Walter is presented as
an individual who is selfish and only wishes for his own personal gains. As his struggles are expressed
through his word choice, tone, and actions, it can be seen that Walter Younger is a man who only
thinks about what he wants, even if it will hurt his family. Soon after, the audience is introduced to
Mama s plant that is withering away in the family s minute apartment since there is not adequate
sunlight or space; she fears that if the old plant doesn t get more sun than it s been getting, it ain t ever
going to see spring again (Hansberry 508). As the plant is described, the audience cannot help but
relate Walter to the plant: they both lack space sufficient enough to live and grow as an individual.
Similar to the plant lacking necessities, Walter has a scarce amount of excess money that could help
him achieve his dreams. Overall, this plant is symbolic of Walter in the sense that

Hair Thesis
Hair through the ages.
Since the beginning of time, hair and hairstyles has been very important to the human race. Hair and
the way it is styled is not only an adornment, but it also tells us more about the personalities, social
class or the profession of people. Hairstyles have been developing from ancient times and are still in
the process of changing today. With every new era comes a new way of creating and styling our hair.
Antiquity:
The Egyptians
Ancient Egyptians are known for their attention to beauty and cleanliness. They used various items
and techniques to style their hair. For them the way they wore their hair was based on the social class
they were in. They used combs, hairpins, wigs and even dyed their hair and wigs. Blue, ... Show more

The classic period hairstyle of Sparta was the ponytail. The warrior like mentality Sparta had their
hairstyles became less attractive. Both sexes wore ponytails. Men wore to keep the hair while battle.
Men focused more on physical athleticism than on the attractiveness of their hair.
Women also wore ponytails, because of the simplicity of the hairstyle, although they were more
focused on the attractiveness of their hair and adorned their hair with ribbons, pearls and beads.
Curls were another very important part of ancient Greek hairstyles. Curls were used to enhance the
beauty of the chignon. Curls and blonde hair was seen to be very beautiful, because many Greek gods
and goddesses had blonde curly hair.
Social class were marked by hairstyles. Wealthier, aristocratic women wore long decorated hair, while
female servants wore short, cropped hair. Men wore short hairstyles with clean shaven faces, they
even occasionally preferred to be fully shaved.
Hair in ancient Rome
Roman fashions did not change much over the centuries and were generally very simple, but hairstyle
fashion was ever changing. Their styles are so distinctive that they are still used today, some exactly
the same and others are just influences.
Like today, hair for the Romans expressed personal identity as much as clothes. Their styles were
determined by various factors, namely gender, age, social status, wealth and profession. Hair was a

Crooks, Curley s Wife, And Lennie
Crooks, Curley s wife, and Lennie in Of Mice and Men can be an irritation to most people at the
ranch. They try their hardest to achieve their goals, but as a result of the direction that they chose and
who they are to other people, it is hard for them. There are too many setbacks and obstacles during
this time that it made it hard for them to live. Crooks, Curley s wife, and Lennie feel like they are an
obstacle for other people and to themselves. These three people get called names. They are or want to
be alone, and they can never follow the dreams that they set for themselves.
Crooks is called names by reasons of his race. He is treated horrendously by people of the opposite
race. He wants to be alone and does not want to bother anyone on the ranch. He never gets invited to
any activities on the ranch. In this time during the Great Depression, money was hard to get and work
was hard to find. People of the color white ruled out African Americans due to thinking that they were
different. Crooks wants to leave the ranch and live far away like how George and Lennie want to do. A

The International Labour Organisation ( Ilo )
Responsible sourcing is a universal method to the sustainable evaluation of materials. This is an
environmental, economical and social way of obtaining construction supplies such as concrete.
Responsible sourcing is a progressively imperative factor for specifiers and clients in the construction
commerce. The idea first industrialized in fair trade of food products and fair employment conditions
for production of consumer goods. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) was founded in 1919
to be accountable for drawing up and supervising international labour standards. Responsible sourcing
adds to this by involving other environmental, social and economic characteristics of sustainability.

There is an agenda for the organisational authority and supply chain management and this must be
adopted clearly by all companies.
It can be assumed that responsible sourcing can be a very crucial factor that contributes towards
construction and civil engineering as concrete is used in almost all projects. This is why it is
paramount to produce this concrete from trusted sources. Hence 89% of all concrete in 2012 was
certified to BES 6001 and of the production tonnage certified, 99% has achieved Very Good or
Excellent performance rating. As sustainability is a key world issue now, it is important to keep in
mind where companies produce their resources. If concrete was not responsibly sourced then a lot of
unwanted issues could arise. For example it could lead to the concrete not being of the same quality as
a responsibly sourced one. Also it may increase the carbon footprint and cause global warming if
responsibly sourcing was avoided to keep costs low. Although the short term effects of using cheap
concrete is good the long term effects of responsibly sourced concrete outweighs this. In their analysis
Georgopoulos and Minson (2014, p. 129) say, The UK concrete industry is supporting the BES 6001
as it is the most comprehensive standard available and measures the whole infrastructure of the supply
chain . It is not easy for companies to be certified by this and they have to meet certain requirements,

The Presidential Candidate Of Education Reform
I for one believe Hillary Rodham Clinton is the best presidential candidate of education reform in the
2016 election. Mrs. Clinton has an impeccable record on this issue and consistently fought for the
rights of all American s access to quality education. Her crusade as a public servant for quality
education began thirty three years ago in 1983.The Arkansas school system ranked 50th in the nation.
Mrs. Clinton was appointed by Governor Bill Clinton to chair the Educational Standards Committee,
to recommend reforms. It is not an exaggeration to say the state s educational system remains broken.
TIME Magazine dubbed Arkansas the long time Dogpatch of the nation s school system However, this
crisis in education extended from coast to coast. In pushing for higher standards, Mrs. Clinton stated,
Our schools are not doing as good as they must. While there may be many causes for our dilemma,
there is only one solution. We Arkansans have to quit making excuses and accept instead the challenge
of excellence once and for all. (ED Reform,2016) The newly established committee solicited advice
from the public, in all of Arkansas 75 counties. Following this extensive research, Mrs. Clinton came
up with a comprehensive set of regulations aimed at overhauling the state s failing education system.
The Education Standards committee s recommendations included: Upgrading curriculum standards
and course requirements. Increasing teacher salaries and possible merit pay. Establishing a

Alliteration And Symbolism In Browning s Meeting At Night
In the poem, Meeting At Night, alliteration and symbolism were used to describe about the sea, color,
and nighttime in line one. The poem on line one states that The gray sea and the long black land;
(Browning). Browning used alliteration in this line was with long and land to tell the audience that he
sees nothing around him but water all around. He described the land as the color black to tell the
audience it s dark outside or nighttime. The sea was being describe as the color gray to emphasize that
it is night as well. He focused on reality instead of the art by not searching for more colors and stated
the fact that everything was dark. This is how the author incorporated the alliteration and symbolism
in this line tie the connection of the sea, color, and nighttime. The author also used alliteration and
symbolism to extend his imagery of the scenery in his poem. According to line two of the poem, that
author wrote, And the yellow half moon large and low; (Browning). The alliteration he used in the
second line was with the words large and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line ten, there are symbolism of color, heat and nighttime to decipher the meaning of the lighted
match. Assuming that the match was struck, a blue spark must have appeared to get it lit. The color
blue may be symbolized as heat due to the sparks being the beginning of the fire that the match has
contained. The blue sparks can also be a symbol of passion due to the word spark being used as in
relationships nowadays. The lighted match is also a symbol of heat. When something was lighted, then
fire, which is very hot, must be involved. The lighted match may have led the audience think that the
setting was during the nighttime. Usually, when a match is lighted, it could have been use as a source
of light to see in the dark or, in this case, nighttime. This is how the lighted match can be a symbol of

October Sky Analysis
October Sky
The enlightening and inspirational true story of Homer Hickam in October Sky directed by Joe
Johnston reminds us all to aim for our goals and never give up, even while battling difficulty.
However, Homer was struggling for a great deal in his pursuit of rocketry, he was even struggling for
his life. Born in a coal mining town, son of a foreman, Homer seemed destined to work the mine when
he grew up. But in October Sky, Homer has to overcome what the mine represents: isolation and
darkness. Mining coal isolates many of the characters from each other throughout the storyline. The
main antagonist, Homer s father, John, frequently seems distant from his own family because of
emergencies and accidents inside the mine that demand his utmost attention. Even Homer s mother,
Elsie, threatens to leave him if he doesn t become more attentive to their son s interest in rocketry.
Homer decides to drop out of high school and become a miner to provide for his family after John is

As a child the most important place to me was the block in my neighborhood I grew up on. It was a

both sidewalks. There was no shortage of playmates; almost every other home on the block had
children around my age I could play with. There was also an older generation of teenagers that hung

Everyday around 5pm the men of the neighborhood would begin to slowly gather to a neighbor s

Explain Why 16 And 17 Year Olds Should Have The Right To Vote
I agree, that 16 and 17 year old citizens should have to right to vote. The legal voting age in America
is 18 years old, and it has been that way for about 40 years. They were given that right when the the
26th amendment was passed, and ever since it has been passed, there was no real dramatic increase in
the voting rate. Young people didn t really pay attention to politics, usually because at that age, 18
year old already had a lot to deal with in their daily lives. The Montgomery County community, which
is the nation s first to lower the voting age from 18 to 16, (according to the article), had no problems
when trying to pass this through the City Council. Although one member of the Takoma City Council ,
did not agree with the fact that 16 year olds should have the right to vote. Fred Schultz is the one that
didn t agree, he stated that the result won t be be worth the time ... Show more content on

The main reason why I agree is because, most students in high schools are taking Government or AP
Government class in 12th grade. In that class you get to learn about politics and how the government
and voting works, furthermore, I believe that we are the best education to make a decision that is
going to affect the country. Most people vote because one of the candidate supports only one of the
issue that they agree with, and it shouldn t be that way. The people voting should have the knowledge
of what every candidate s plans are and base their vote off of that, not just because they support one
issues that that voter agrees on. I also know that there we a lot of 16 and 17 year old that wanted to
vote, but of course couldn t because of their age, and I don t think that is fair. If we are educated on the
issues and the candidates running for office, we should have the right to vote, besides 16 year olds are
probably more educated than most 18 years on, when it comes to

Theatre Analysis
The learning experience that is theatre can be very similar to a rolling snowball. Each and every show
gives me something new that I keep with me on the rest of my journey. Whether it be the mastering of
a double pirouette or the acquiring of a new accent, I can remember shows based upon what I
collected. This year is not an exception, but it is certainly a special case. Being a senior has been a
rocky road, but in turbulence I have found wisdom. After playing Bert most recently in Mary Poppins,
I did more than just refine my tap dancing. I got to experience firsthand the miraculous power of
theatre. My community is close knit, so when tragedy struck, no one was left unaffected. During the
months of preparation for the fall musical, two students lost their lives to depression, both of them
being in my senior class. There was no emotional respite as the incidents occurred only one month
apart. Needless to say, daily life was put on hold. The vibrant hallways that I had known so well

weeks that passed, I came to realize that each line, song, and dance was a chance to improve someone
s day. I had known that before, of course, but never in the somber and very real context that I was
facing. I would constantly refer to the show as the shining light that our town needs . This was true in
a literal yet poetic sense. The lights on stage would act directly as lights of hope for those attending.

Chipping Vs Pitching
Chipping
There are some newer Golfers who confuse chipping and pitching . The difference is that chipping is
more similar to putting. A chipping swing is more restricted to just the shoulders and arms. Your body
remains still.
What makes a good chip shot is a proper setup and swing. Whenever you set up to make a chip shot
you need to use an open stance . Keep your feet and hips opened slightly toward your target. It s
natural for this stance to feel a bit odd at first. However, it s necessary for giving your arms the room
they need to swing through your target. When you make a chip shot and use a square stance, your
wrists are at risk of unhinging.

You should wiggle your feet and firmly plant them into the sand. Now choke down ever so slightly on
the club. Your ball is usually played off your left foot but can be adjusted as needed.
Whenever you re ready to take your swing, bring the club back as far as necessary to hit your ball. To
have a successful down swing you ll have to accelerate your club head while making contact with
your ball.
Be sure your club enters the sand at least 1 or maybe 2 inches behind your ball. Allow your club to do
all the work while it enters the sand. Avoid trying to scoop your ball upward and out.
A crucial element of all sand shots is to accelerate through impact . This is especially true when the
sand is wet or packed tightly. The acceleration will be the one single thing keeping the club head from
stopping as it impacts its way through the sand.

Janice Aucoin Research Paper
Anna Terese Janice Aucoin. Yes, those four names are all mine. Nothing more, nothing less. It s
different than the typical three names that most everyone has. Contrary to the Sophia Grace Smiths,
the Elizabeth Mary Williams, and the Ashley Sara Jones who dominate much of the population, I am
unique. Now my middle name, Janice, is to blame for my four names. When I was born, my parents
had already decided on Anna Terese Aucoin, only three names at that time not four, when they realized
every grandparent had a namesake except for one, my Maw Maw, Janice Aucoin. Knowing that would
upset her, my parents decided to squeeze her name in between my last name and what would have
been my middle name, Terese. Despite my parents effort to fit it in, I do not invoke it often. Regularly,
I try to hide it except for when I m forced to put it on the occasional standardized tests. ... Show more

Anna Terese. Not just Anna, not just Terese, but Anna Terese with all ten letters and a space in
between. When I was younger, it always took my teachers a while to grasp the concept of a double
first name. First day of school, teachers would call out Anna and I would correct them with Anna
Terese, but they would continue with the roll, telling Anna where to sit. Once in preschool, not even
hearing my desperate claims that Janice, not Terese was my middle name, my teacher tried to
convince me that Anna was my first name and Terese was my middle name. It ended with me crying
and my teacher writing solely Anna on my paper. I then became an Anna. I was not an Anna.
Undeterred by this label, I have learned to live with being an Anna although, to me, Anna is still a girl

The Leader Of The Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition
Leaders are essential to any expedition, or group project. The thing that sets apart mediocre leaders
from the extraordinary are the style in which they lead, their personal attributes, and their verbal
characteristics. Sir Ernest Shackleton, the leader of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition on the
Endurance, had exceptional leadership style, personal attributes and verbal characteristics. Each of
these aspects contributed to Shackletons success as a leader.
The style in which Sir Ernest Shackleton lead included three very important demeanors that made him
a great leader control, organization, adaptability. Shown throughout the story, Shackleton was very
good at applying these skills into the way he lead the group. Clearly there ... Show more content on

This brings me to the next part of Shackleton s leadership style; organization. Whether he was
choosing a crew, or organizing everyone on the Endurance when it was tipping, and plunging into the
cold sea, Shackleton always worked in an organized fashion. An example from the story was when he
picked his crew very strategically, From his flood of volunteers, Shackleton began to pick a crew.
Some of the leader s choices were obvious, (7). This shows that he is organized and knows exactly
who will help him in the adventure, and who will not. Finally the third aspect included in Shackleton s
leadership style was adaptability. Adapt means to make suitable changes to fit within the requirements
or conditions. Shackleton did exactly that. He was able to make suitable changes to fit within the
requirements or conditions. When Endurance was being crushed by the frozen floes, Shackleton
changed his plans accordingly, The pressure stopped again, and the Boss ordered the men to restore
order to the jumbled ship, (44). This quote is a clear example of Shackleton s ability to adapt, as he
could have left the ship and given up. Instead, he adapted. Another example of this was when the ship
got stuck, Shackleton made suitable changes to the original plan to fit within the conditions; he
planned for Elephant Island. Had Shackleton not adapted to the circumstances, the crew would
probably have

Social Education And The Competent Social Work Practitioner
Social Work Education and the Competent Social Work Practitioner
Introduction
Social work education needs to focus on teaching global issues and applying the structural and anti
oppressive principles of practice (Razack Badwell, 2006). According to Mohan (2005) stated by
Razack Badwell (2006) that the social work profession seems to be silent to teach students to achieve
adequate skills to think and act globally. This essay will be divided into five sections. The first section
will briefly describe the topic. The second section will discuss the global issues in social work
education. The third section will discuss the anti oppression approach in social work practice. The
fourth section will discuss the importance of the structural social work practice. Finally, the fourth
section will justify the thesis statement with support of the literature.
Global issues in social work education There are plenty of global issues that need to be incorporated in
social work education. Major issues in the global context are immigration, refugees, terrorism,
security, racism and gender issue. A significant number of people immigrated into Canada and the
USA due to war and poverty. However, since 9/11 the view regarding the Arabs and Muslims has
changed and increase their oppression and marginality. So, these globalization issues create
challenging moments and opportunity for the practitioner and the educators to deal with these issues
effectively (Razack Badwell, 2006).These

U.s. Balance Of Payment Deficit
Sustainability of U.S. Balance of Payment Deficit The U.S. has been running a trade deficit
consistently since the early 1980s. There have been minor recessions from 1980 to 2008. The Great
Recession starting as a result of complex financial products, which masked debt risk (McGahey,
2014). The Great Recession was not a result of trade deficit itself. The question naturally arises; can
the U.S. maintain trade deficits indefinitely? Overall, Carbaugh argues that there is no economic
reason why the United States cannot continue to sustain current account deficits (Carbaugh, 2013).
Similarly, Karczmar quoting Herb Stein suggests that if the U.S. deficit is a problem, and there is no
solution to the problem, then there is no problem (Karczmar, 2004, p. 9). There are risks in
maintaining chronic deficits, however. The focus turns to analyzing if the benefits outweigh the risks,
and if not, what can be done to reduce the deficit without negatively impacting the U.S. economy
overall. Both Carbaugh, and Karczmar s risk assessments, options for keeping or reducing the deficit,
and impacts of deficit reduction are explored below. Carbaugh explains that the U.S. media and trade
unions myopically focus on merchandise trade imbalance while glossing over the fact that services
balance has been positive (Carbaugh, 2013). The discussion turns towards services jobs paying less
than manufacturing jobs. Jobs that have been created post the recession are lower paying jobs

A Short Note On Pricing And Non Pricing Strategies
A. Explain what type of market structure is presented in the movie. Explain the types of strategies Joe
Fox and Kathleen Kelly use to compete and maintain market power. Differentiate between pricing and
non pricing strategies (use Chapter 7 in Stengel s textbook). You can expand and talk about potential
strategies in the bookselling business even if they were not explicitly addressed in the movie.
All companies need to be competitive in order to survive. Not only do they have to come up with a
competitive plan that will attract new customers but also to keep current customers. Just like the
movie You ve Got Mail with Tom Hanks (Joe Fox) and Meg Ryan as Kathleen Kelly. They each have
their own bookstore located near each other in New York.
There are four market structures and they are described in the table below:

Minors and the Death Penalty
A. Should the death penalty be given to minors? The two groups against this issue, are the religious
and medical groups. They believe they are too young to know what they have done. The medical
groups believe adolescents are less developed than adults and should not be held to the same
standards. . The opposing side, held mostly by state officials, feel if they are old enough to commit the
crime they, old enough to get the punishment, including death.
B. The very first execution of a minor was in1642 with Thomas Graunger in Plymouth Colony,
Massachesetts. In the three hundred years since that time, a total of approximately 365 persons have
been executed for juvenile crimes, constituting 1.8 percent of roughly twenty thousand ... Show more

showed the case of Stanford v. Kentucky which was for the execution of a minor. The majority in case
acknowledged age as a mitigating factor in death sentencing, but, in an opinion written by Justice
Antonin Scalia, said the national climate didn t rule out the death penalty simply because of the age of
the offender.
G. The Kantian view of death penalty is a retributive view that sees the criminal as a parasite who has
accepted the benefits of a legal system while refusing to pay the price of self restraint. Such a person
owes the law abiding a debt for he has gained an unfair advantage over them. Punishment is the means
of exacting the debt (in kind) and is a demand for justice the restoration of a condition of equality
between the law breaker and society. Just punishment is binding and not to be mitigated by any
utilitarian consideration. Kant also believes in blood guilt and the necessity for cleansing criminal
actions.
H. This issue is pretty touchy to me, because i could support both side of minor being put to death. I
agree with if they do the crime, they can do the time, but at the same time they are just little kids and
they do not know better. The way I see how this situation can change is that instead of holding the
child responsible for the crime hold the parents in contempt. The reason I say

Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a novel about a man named Marlow and his journey into the
depths of the African Congo. Marlow is in search of a man named Kurtz, an ivory trader. Though
Marlow?s physical journey seems rather simple, it takes him further into his own heart and soul than
into the Congo. The setting, symbols and characters each contain light and dark images, these images
shape the central theme of the novel. Conrad uses light and dark imagery to help create the setting for
the story; light represents civilization while darkness suggests the uncivilized. The novel opens on the

The river Thames is the river that brings you into Europe, civilization, while the Congo brings you
into the jungle or darkness. Another important symbol in the story is the ivory. The ivory has a two
fold meaning and is a central theme in the novel. Ivory is taken from the tusks of male elephants; they
live in a pristine area untouched by humans. However, once the white man places a high price on the
ivory, the ivory turns from good to evil. Conrad uses the ivory as a representation of the greed and
corruption that is in the white mans soul. In the case of Kurtz this same greed and corruption overtook
his soul, and caused his death. Each character has a special role in the novel; Kurtz and Marlow are
the most important, through these two characters we are able to see how good and evil balance each
other out. Marlow?s journey into the heart of darkness can also be seen as a journey into his own soul.
He was in search of the darkest of objects, the ivory. Unlike Kurtz, Marlow was able to withstand the
darkness from controlling him. Kurtz soul became the darkness and caused him to forget everything
else there was to life. His last words were not that of love but rather of hate, ?The horrors the horrors.?

Thesis: Since the 9/11 terrorists attacks, terrorism has extended far beyond the United States and into
other nations such as Africa. Even though these acts of aggressions take place outside of the United
States, the government should have the capability to counteract groups who engage in the terrorism

policymakers have devoted a significant amount of resources in recent years to study the strategic
importance of Africa. They have noted Africa s growing strategic importance to U.S. interests. Among
those interests is the aggregate significance of Africa s natural resources, principally energy capitals,
and growing concerns over violent radical activities and other potential threats posed by under
governed spaces, such as maritime piracy and illicit trafficking. In addition, there is an ongoing
concern for Africa s many humanitarian crises, armed conflicts, and more everyday challenges that
undermine the stability of the African continent, such as the devastating effect of HIV/AIDS. The
establishment of U.S. Africa Command in response to these challenges correctly illustrated the
strategic importance of Africa. Hence, by emphasizing the relationships between security,
development, diplomacy and prosperity in Africa, the Department of Defense (DoD) intends to better
focus its resources on supporting and enhancing existing U.S. initiatives to help African nations and
the regional economic communities succeed. However, to accomplish this mission, the DoD must

The Natural And Physical Inequality
Unavoidably, every person enters the world with a unique set of talents, dispositions and attributes
which lead him or her to perform better or worse than another person in certain realms. Rousseau calls
this natural or physical inequality: one may be stronger, quicker or smarter than another, and as such
able to complete more tasks than another. Rousseau argues that none of this matters in the state of
nature because, similar to animals, mankind concerns itself with self preservation. Family bonds, or
any other sort of organization of a group of people, do not exist in this state. The complete self
sufficiency of each person means nobody needs to exercise control or domination of any sort over any
other person to survive or enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle. I see him satisfying his hunger under an
oak tree, quenching his thirst at the first stream, finding his bed at the foot of the same tree that
supplied his meal; and thus all his needs are satisfied (Rousseau 47). Perhaps one more adept at
finding food, whether by speed or size, will more easily satisfy his hunger and have more time to rest
at the foot of the tree or to enjoy relations with those passing by. While this does provide an
advantage, every person effectively lives the same sort of life, free of dominion of any sort. Similarly,
Smith writes that talents of men differ on the basis of the realm they most naturally aspire to. While
one man may inevitably be stronger than a second, the same second may

Early in his life, his family moved to Rey, South Khorasan in the district of Tehran. Rey was a city that had a history of radical thought since the 9th century. It was in this center of religious hub that Hassan developed a keen interest in metaphysical matters and live by the Twelver code of instruction. From the age of 7 to 17, he studied at home, and mastered palmistry, languages, philosophy, astronomy and mathematics. Along the way he toured many other regions that did not fall in the general direction of Egypt. Isfahan was the first city that he visited. He was hosted by one of the missionaries of his youth, a man who had taught the youthful Hassan in Rey. His name was Resi Abufasl and he further instructed Hassan. From here he went to Caucasian Albania, current Azerbaijan, hundreds of miles to the north, and from there through Armenia. In Armenia, Hassan was persecuted from the region, due to heated arguments with priests. He then turned south and traveled through Iraq, reached Damascus in Syria. He left for Egypt from Palestine. Comparison of Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet Essay Comparison of Two Film Versions of Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet was made into a film by two different directors. Baz Luhrmann s to Franco Zeffirelli s interpretation of Romeo and Juliet were very distinct and they both appeal to different age group audiences. Franco Zeffirelli s version was the first film of Romeo and Juliet. It was produced in 1968 and it was quiet typical, exactly what the audience would have expected the film of Romeo and Juliet to be. Unlike Baz Luhrmann s version, which was very modern and appealed to a younger audience. The lighting of the scenes were similar, as both films portrayed the scene as lively and exciting at the beginning. The only difference to the lighting is what was used to create the light. Franco Zeffirelli used traditional items such as candles and torches. Baz Luhrmann used modern items such as chandeliers and fireworks. The start of the party was similar in both films. Even though Franco Zeffirelli s version of the scene started noisily, Baz Luhrmann s was noisier. Another similarity were the camera angle shots. Both directors used a variety of camera shots, especially close up. Luhrmann s production, the close ups were helping build tension by showing both families feelings and facial expressions. Throughout the masked ball scene, there are a number of close ups on key characters. For example, when Tybalt recognises Romeo at the party and when Romeo and Juliet first set eyes on each other across the fish tank. Franco also uses close ups at these points of the scene. The setting of the two films are also very contrasting. Zeffirelli s production was set in Tuscany and Umbria because they were very authentic cities, which were a lot like the setting of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, would have been. Poverty In Loraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun Throughout American history, poverty has overwhelmed the inner cities, causing families to face everyday issues such as finances with regards to food, schooling, and extra activities or utilities. However, these circumstances can also test a family and push them to their breaking point. The topic of poverty is evident in Loraine Hansberry s play that takes place in the late 1950s. As the play A Raisin in the Sun progresses, the characters develop as a whole, enhancing symbolism specifically Mama s plant that represent the family. To begin the play, a young man named Walter is presented as an individual who is selfish and only wishes for his own personal gains. As his struggles are expressed through his word choice, tone, and actions, it can be seen that Walter Younger is a man who only thinks about what he wants, even if it will hurt his family. Soon after, the audience is introduced to Mama s plant that is withering away in the family s minute apartment since there is not adequate sunlight or space; she fears that if the old plant doesn t get more sun than it s been getting, it ain t ever going to see spring again (Hansberry 508). As the plant is described, the audience cannot help but relate Walter to the plant: they both lack space sufficient enough to live and grow as an individual. It can be assumed that responsible sourcing can be a very crucial factor that contributes towards construction and civil engineering as concrete is used in almost all projects. This is why it is paramount to produce this concrete from trusted sources. Hence 89% of all concrete in 2012 was certified to BES 6001 and of the production tonnage certified, 99% has achieved Very Good or Excellent performance rating. As sustainability is a key world issue now, it is important to keep in mind where companies produce their resources. If concrete was not responsibly sourced then a lot of unwanted issues could arise. For example it could lead to the concrete not being of the same quality as a responsibly sourced one. Also it may increase the carbon footprint and cause global warming if responsibly sourcing was avoided to keep costs low. Although the short term effects of using cheap concrete is good the long term effects of responsibly sourced concrete outweighs this. In their analysis Georgopoulos and Minson (2014, p. 129) say, The UK concrete industry is supporting the BES 6001 as it is the most comprehensive standard available and measures the whole infrastructure of the supply chain . The Great Recession was not a result of trade deficit itself. The question naturally arises; can the U.S. maintain trade deficits indefinitely? Overall, Carbaugh argues that there is no economic reason why the United States cannot continue to sustain current account deficits (Carbaugh, 2013). Similarly, Karczmar quoting Herb Stein suggests that if the U.S. deficit is a problem, and there is no solution to the problem, then there is no problem (Karczmar, 2004, p. 9). Punishment is the means of exacting the debt (in kind) and is a demand for justice the restoration of a condition of equality between the law breaker and society. Just punishment is binding and not to be mitigated by any utilitarian consideration. Kant also believes in blood guilt and the necessity for cleansing criminal actions. H. This issue is pretty touchy to me, because i could support both side of minor being put to death. I agree with if they do the crime, they can do the time, but at the same time they are just little kids and they do not know better. The way I see how this situation can change is that instead of holding the child responsible for the crime hold the parents in contempt. The reason I say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Stewardship In The Air Force Module five had a lot of familiar concepts that I ve become accustomed with during my brief time in the Air Force. For many of these concepts, I was able to get a more in depth look into how they are applied. One item I really took away from the module reading was the budget process and how the different quarterly cycles work. Another process I learned a lot about was the Budget Execution Review and how to properly forecast funding shortfalls. These items are currently not in my day to day operations, but will be in my near future. Currently, my position in the squadron does not afford many opportunities to apply resources stewardship skills. Managing people is the only facet of resource stewardship that I directly impact. • 27. Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of... Light and Dark Imagery in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a novel about a man named Marlow and his journey into the depths of the African Congo. Marlow is in search of a man named Kurtz, an ivory trader. Though Marlow?s physical journey seems rather simple, it takes him further into his own heart and soul than into the Congo. The setting, symbols and characters each contain light and dark images, these images shape the central theme of the novel. Conrad uses light and dark imagery to help create the setting for the story; light represents civilization while darkness suggests the uncivilized. The novel opens on the deck of a boat called the Nellie, as we are introduced to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The river Thames is the river that brings you into Europe, civilization, while the Congo brings you into the jungle or darkness. Another important symbol in the story is the ivory. The ivory has a two fold meaning and is a central theme in the novel. Ivory is taken from the tusks of male elephants; they live in a pristine area untouched by humans. However, once the white man places a high price on the ivory, the ivory turns from good to evil. Conrad uses the ivory as a representation of the greed and corruption that is in the white mans soul. In the case of Kurtz this same greed and corruption overtook his soul, and caused his death. Each character has a special role in the novel; Kurtz and Marlow are the most important, through these two characters we are able to see how good and evil balance each other out. Marlow?s journey into the heart of darkness can also be seen as a journey into his own soul. He was in search of the darkest of objects, the ivory. Unlike Kurtz, Marlow was able to withstand the darkness from controlling him. Kurtz soul became the darkness and caused him to forget everything else there was to life. His last words were not that of love but rather of hate, ?The horrors the horrors.? Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a story about a man named Marlow and his Journey into the African Congo. No one else seems to notice how off the world is. I don t want to get eliminated, like all those criminals. Please, Smiling God, don t tell me being different is a crime. Fanatical sobs began to rack my body. Doubling over, I began to pound my head against the floor. Embracing the future with an untouchable passion, I let go of my sanity. I want to see how a non sedated mind reacts to trauma from a figure they previously trusted. I, well Smiling God, wanted to see what would happen if we stopped putting sedatives in your Cibum to keep you content, and then gave you shocking information. Even though these acts of aggressions take place outside of the United States, the government should have the capability to counteract groups who engage in the terrorism without fear of reprisal. Therefore, the establishment of a new Combatant Command for Africa (AFRICOM) should mark an important milestone in the prevention of the terrorist attacks against the United States. They have noted Africa s growing strategic importance to U.S. interests. Among those interests is the aggregate significance of Africa s natural resources, principally energy capitals, and growing concerns over violent radical activities and other potential threats posed by under governed spaces, such as maritime piracy and illicit trafficking. In addition, there is an ongoing concern for Africa s many humanitarian crises, armed conflicts, and more everyday challenges that undermine the stability of the African continent, such as the devastating effect of HIV/AIDS. The establishment of U.S. Africa Command in response to these challenges correctly illustrated the strategic importance of Africa. Hence, by emphasizing the relationships between security, development, diplomacy and prosperity in Africa, the Department of Defense (DoD) intends to better focus its resources on supporting and enhancing existing U.S. initiatives to help African nations and the regional economic communities succeed. • 34. The Natural And Physical Inequality Unavoidably, every person enters the world with a unique set of talents, dispositions and attributes which lead him or her to perform better or worse than another person in certain realms. Rousseau calls this natural or physical inequality: one may be stronger, quicker or smarter than another, and as such able to complete more tasks than another. Rousseau argues that none of this matters in the state of nature because, similar to animals, mankind concerns itself with self preservation. Family bonds, or any other sort of organization of a group of people, do not exist in this state. The complete self sufficiency of each person means nobody needs to exercise control or domination of any sort over any other person to survive or enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle. I see him satisfying his hunger under an oak tree, quenching his thirst at the first stream, finding his bed at the foot of the same tree that supplied his meal; and thus all his needs are satisfied (Rousseau 47). Perhaps one more adept at finding food, whether by speed or size, will more easily satisfy his hunger and have more time to rest at the foot of the tree or to enjoy relations with those passing by. While this does provide an advantage, every person effectively lives the same sort of life, free of dominion of any sort. Similarly, Smith writes that talents of men differ on the basis of the realm they most naturally aspire to. While one man may inevitably be stronger than a second, the same second may ...
