Coliseum was larger than the events that took place there, at 6 acres it is the largest
amphitheatre ever built. Truly amazing. The Great Wall of China is great. *budum, tss* Did
you know that before the Ming Dynasty, the Great Wall was mainly built from rammed earth,
stones, and wood. During the Ming, however, bricks were heavily used in many areas of the
wall. While portions north of Beijing and near tourist centers have been preserved and even
extensively renovated, in many other locations the Wall is in disrepair. That is very sad. It s still
great though! Christ the Redeemer is a truly amazing amazing statue, sure, maybe it it dwarfed
by even The Statue of Liberty but it stands for some(Not so much) greater. Vincentian priest,
Pedro Maria Boss, first suggested placing a Christian monument on Mount Corcovado in the mid
1850s to honor Princess Isabel, princess regent of Brazil and the daughter of Emperor Pedro II,

proposal for a landmark statue on the mountain in 1920. The group organized an event called

Analysis Of The Film Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler Through The Homeric Perspective Have you ever been stuck in a bad mood that
causes everything to happen in your day to seem bad? Have you ever had a good day with the
opposite effect? Mood changes perspective on everything. You are always in a mood.
Throughout different ages of the world, mood has always been there influencing the day to day
choices. Hero s are portrayed in modern day society to be someone who is willing to risk their lives
for others, would you consider a hero to be someone who films a toddler being stabbed? Or how
about someone who films the murder of three people and deceives the police? By using mood in
Gilroy s film the Nightcrawler character Louis Bloom represents a classical hero by following the...

Throughout the film Bloom does everything to get the next shot to later show his colleagues.
The audience can sense how desperate he is to get these gruesome videos. Viewers can look at
the way Bloom reacts to how he missed an opportunity to get a video and see how he is truly
consumed in his work. When he misses his opportunity for a film he screams and breaks the
mirror. He truly expresses how he feels broken and how he let himself down. By letting himself
down in a way, he lets God down because he did not please himself, (because he did not get the
shot.) Bloom could be considered a contemporary Odysseus because he deceived the police to
get a video from the news, but, by getting this video he unmasks the murders of the previous
three person murder. This event could be compared to how Odysseus deceived the enemy by
making a trojan horse. In this way deception, plays a role to make both Odysseus and Bloom
similar. Nightcrawler could be classified as a story of a 21st heroic tale because it follows the
key concepts of the Hero s journey. Bloom in Nightcrawler is a very structured character, he
always remains true to his beliefs. When Bloom first gets the call to adventure as he sees the first
sight of night crawling. Bloom goes through all the big developments of a hero. He meets his
mentor Nina, as she pays him for the footage. Throughout the movie Bloom s confidence increases

Research paper on the beatles
The Story of My Search
Everyone, Americans and Europeans alike, have heard of, if not grown off of, a generation and
culture started by an ensemble of four shaggy haired Liverpool musicians that the world went mad
over; no one can deny that no greater event impacted today s pop culture than Beatlemania . But not
everyone has heard the story behind the Beatles, who were they? How did they become the band
and how did they make it big? What s the story of their struggle?
Before researching, I already knew a lot about the Beatles. I knew that the band was made up of
John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They started the famous British
Invasion of the 1960 s on American pop/rock music, and they started a craze that ... Show more

There he met his first wife, Cynthia and Stuart Sutcliff. Although Sutcliff had very little good
musical ability he bought a bass guitar and joined The Quarrymen (a pre Beatle, Lennon creation).
Next came the co genius of this phenomenon, Paul McCartney. Born on June 18, 1942 to Jim and
Mary Patricia Monin, Paul was the eldest of two boys in a very close knit family. He first
attended Stockton Wood Road Primary School but was soon switched to Joseph Williams
Primary School at Gateacre because their mother insisted on the best education for her boys.
Paul used to love to listen to the radio and was very influenced by his dad who played in a little
band but eventually had to give it up because he got false teeth and couldn t play the trumpet
properly anymore. John s mother died of breast cancer when he was only fourteen, which
devastated the family and launched John into spending some of his time writing songs, which
would later be the pay off of his life.
George Harold Harrison was born to Harry and Louise French Harrison on February 25, 1943 in
Wavertree as the youngest of four children. Like John, George s first school was Dovedale Primary

Parenthood And Its Effects On The United States
Planned Parenthood There is an ongoing argument about the funding of Planned Parenthood in the
United States. There are many reasons that some people do not want to fund it. One of those
reasons is because Planned Parenthood offers abortions to women. There are people who believe
that these operations should be shut down to rid our country of abortions. However, Planned
Parenthood offers much more than just abortions in their clinics. Planned Parenthood should be
funded because of the examinations and resources they provide, the education they give, and
because it is a low income health center.
Planned Parenthood offers access to many important health examinations, procedures, treatments
and medications. They offer breast cancer and cervical cancer exams. They test for STI s, HPV
and UTI s to name a few. All of these tests and exams are preventative actions to not only see if
someone has a health issue, but also to prevent health issues. They provide birth control to women
who are not ready to have children. They also offer abortions. However, Planned Parenthood has
decreased the number of abortions per year overall, including Vermont where Title X was passed to
fund operations such as Planned Parenthood. This is because Planned Parenthood offers birth
control therefore preventing unwanted pregnancies which may have ended in abortion (Zoppo 497).
It is also important to note that Federal funding of Planned Parenthood does not fund abortions
except for cases of rape,

Saint Augustine Essay
Many consider Saint Augustine of Hippo a main figure in the development of orthodox Christian
doctrine during the early Christian Church. Augustine was born in Northern Africa in AD 354. His
father was a pagan and his mother a Christian. Though his parents were not extremely well to do,
they had enough money to allow Augustine to obtain an education in the liberal arts. This
education will eventually affect how he sees Christianity, especially concerning the use of neo
Platonic ideas in Christian theology.
Augustine converted to orthodox Christianity late in life. He struggled with the many earthly things
he needed to give up for a complete conversion of body, mind, and soul. It is in Confessions that
Augustine shows the world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was during this time that Augustine discovered the appealing ideas that Christianity had to offer.
The most appealing idea of Christianity to Augustine was that it allowed for a logical view of
God, as well having a certain amount of mystery. In Confessions, Augustine continually
discusses the importance of his education in the liberal art as an important aspect of his
understanding of Christianity. Using logic, Augustine understood the Christian ideas of sin, evil,
and God s relationship to humanity and all creation. He believes it is a man s natural state to
want to be near God spiritually, yet in their weak state of flesh, they often move away from the
one thing they yearn for most, which is God. Augustine says of this, В…to praise you [God] is
the desire of man, a little piece of your creation. You stir man to take pleasure in praising you,
because you have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you .
Since the idea of logic in religion was appealing for Augustine, it opened the door for the use of
pagan philosophical ideals to enter Christian doctrine. Augustine was especially interested in the
Platonist and Neo Platonists views on God. Throughout Confessions, Augustine uses many of these
philosophical views to show that Christian ideals are indeed logical. He found

Anti Opium Movement, Opium War And Their Causes

TA: Joel Palhegyi
Final Paper
Anti Opium Movement, Opium War and Their Causes The main theme of 19th century was the
imperialism expansion of western capitalistic industrial nations throughout the whole world. During
this process, the conflicts between occidental imperialism powers and oriental countries never
stopped. The First Opium War, well known as the Opium War, was the war that happened during
September, 1839 to Autumn, 1842, between China and Britain. The war was initiated by the
conflicts between China and Britain on the fact that some British merchants, who worked for the
East India Company, smuggled opium to China and ignored Chinese laws. The mania of opium
smoking shocked the Chinese government and triggered the anti opium movement. Lin Zexu, a
Chinese official known as Commissioner Lin, burned out the confiscated opium at Humen. During
the war, China suffered great loss and ended up with a disastrous fiasco. The result was extremely
humiliating to China and profoundly changed the fate of China: China was compelled to sign a
series of unequal treaties, cede Hong Kong and compensate huge war indemnity. When I viewed
this miserable history of China, a question was created in my mind. Considering the great power
gap between the declining China and the rising Britain, what factors led the Chinese government to
launch the anti opium movement at the expense of triggering the Opium War? My answer is quite
explicit: the

The Van Gogh s Life
It was on March 30, 1853, in Groot Zundert, Holland, that Vincent Willem Van Gogh was born to a
preacher and an artist. His father, Theodorus Van Gogh, was described as an austere country
minister who raised his sons in a religious atmosphere, while his mother, Anna Cornelia Carbentus,
imparted on Vincent her love for color and art. While Vincent Van Gogh
became known later in
time for his heartbreaking backstory and troubled mind, melancholia remained a continuous
theme in his life story even prior to his birth. In fact, Van Gogh was born exactly one year after
Theodorus and Anna s first son, also named Vincent, was delivered stillborn. This tragic timing
led Vincent Van Gogh to grow up with his name and birthdate already etched onto the headstone
of his dead brother. At fifteen years of age, the Van Gogh family financial troubles forced their
son Vincent to leave school and work at his Uncle s art dealership; even after leaving school this
early in his life, Van Gogh was already fluent in French, German, and English, and had Dutch as
his native language. This allowed for no language barrier when he was transferred to a London art
gallery, where he fell in love with both English culture and Eugine Loyer. The landlady s daughter,
who was engaged to another man at the time, became the first of many heartbreaks in Vincent s
life, and her rejection of his marriage proposal sparked a breakdown for the tenant. After, telling
customers not to buy worthless art out of anger,

Essay Reconciling the Cuban Embargo
Heading the wrong way made Douglas Wrong Way Corrigan famous. When he filed his flight
plan to fly from New York to California and wound up in Ireland there was much celebrity and
very little downside for him. The US, may not be as lucky with our embargo policy towards
Cuba. A policy that may have a major impact on the US, both domestically and internationally, is
truly only actively discussed in the swing state of Florida. Is the US heading in the wrong
direction with this policy? Certainly the author thinks so, and if he s right it s not likely that we ll
receive a ticker tape parade at the end of journey like Corrigan did.
Alex Lightman walks us through 78 reasons to end the embargo of Cuba. He does this by stating a
reason and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the maon body of the book, Lightman breaks his reasons into five general categories; General,
Political, Economic, Humanitarian and Fair Compensation. Some of these reasons overlap or are
highly intermingled so seeing each point separately may be difficult from time to time.
General
Lightmans general reasons are a small collection of statements that seem not to fit anywhere else
in the treatise. Those in the business world will recognize that the focus here is on effective goal
setting. He educates the reader on the SMART technique and details why the Cuban embargo
fails to be a SMART goal. Then, looking from the other perspective, he evaluates the goal in terms
of the results obtained. Now he questions since the goal has not been met, is it appropriate to
continue down the same well worn path. Further to this point, he posits that for the US to advocate
regime change in another nation is not an ethical goal to pursue in the first place. The section
closes out by arguing that the real beneficiaries of the embargo are people and entities that the
American people would never want to benefit in the first place. His list of beneficiaries includes the
Castro brothers, which would shock any idealistically minded pro embargo supporter.
Political
The vast amount of the book is spent covering the political reasons why the embargo should be
ended. This section

Teaching Phonics Is An Essential Part Of A Child s Education
Understanding phonics is an essential part of a child s education, as the knowledge they develop
will assist them to read and write. Educators must have an understanding of phonics to teach it
effectively. Teachers need to support students to learn what sounds, letters make, which is a
phoneme. Educators also need to assist students to make the connection with the letters and their
names, which is called graphemes (Tompkins, Campbell, Green, Smith, 2015, p. 142).
Understanding that each letter makes a different sound and connecting this to the letter is known as
phonics, which is required for readingand writing. According to Miskin (2016, p. 9) the English
language has more than 150 ways to represent the 44 phonemes, which are represented using the
26 letters of the alphabet or graphemes. Australian educators need to implement a successful
phonics program, which is engaging by involving different strategies that are suitable to student s
level. According to New South Wales (2009, p. 16) phonics must be taught in kindergarten and
begins with songs, rhymes, and books. Synthetic and analytic are two different teaching strategies,
which are used to teach students phonics. These strategies are very different to one another and
are a similar method of the top down bottom up approach. Top down allows students to use prior
knowledge by using the phonemes to make a word while the bottom up approach allows students
to use what they already know or have seen in prior learning

Example Of Assimilation In America
Assimilation in America
In American society, there are multiple cultures and races exist. Since immigrants bring the various
cultures to America, Americans face a highly controversial problem. Some of the Americans
believe all of the ethnic groups assimilate into a common culture can help Americans distinctly
identify themselves. Others argue that ethnic groups should not abandon their cultural heritages
background. As a result, merging different cultures into one new culturewill cause America lose its
cultural diversity which is one significant charm of this country. On the contrary, if every ethnic
group only focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will
aggravate the separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one
is more appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays
American society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is
inevitable and reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to
us through his experiences.
First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. He
indicates that As much as the country is joined in a common culture, however, Americans are
reluctant to celebrate the process of assimilation. We pledge allegiance to diversity. (Paragraph 7)
To clarify, when a single culture assimilates into a common culture, the

Globalization Generates Poverty
What can two dollars buy you? A small coffee at Starbucks, a candy bar, bag of chips, and a soda, a
slice of pizza. For nearly three billion people, approximately half of the world s population, two
dollars a day is all the money that the person has to live on. Moreover, of the 2.2 billion children in
the world, 1 billion grow up in poverty; 640 million without adequate shelter, 400 millions with
no access to safe water, and 270 million with no access to health services (UNICEF 2005). One
proposed reason for this harsh reality of high poverty rates is globalization the growing integration

However, although globalization has helped several countries, in some developing countries,
foreign aid and investments are not relieving widespread poverty, and policies forced by global
institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank have created more harm
than good, because the policies are based on models constructed by the developed countries and are
not customized for each developing country s situation (2003).
Globalization has generated significant opposition because of concerns that it has decreased
wages in all countries and decreased the number of all types of jobs, of both uneducated and
educated statuses, that are available in developed countries. Statistics have shown that an
increase in product trade with unskilled labor abundant, low wage countries leads to an increase
in the wage rate of skilled workers and depresses the wage rate of unskilled workers (Eckel). For
some time, factory jobs have been moving to lower wage countries. More recently, high speed

The Stranger Absurdism
The Stranger focuses on the character of Meursault, a man whose perspective cannot be understood
by those around him. His neutral character is created by Albert Camus to reveal many themes and
paradoxes within the text. The title itself has its own significant meaning, and the characters and
themes within the text can reveal its meaning to the novel. The title The Strangerreveals Meursault s
strange character stemming from absurdismafter being isolated from everyone, as well the stranger
within those who judge him throughout the novel.

everyone else. This connects to the theme of isolation and how Meursault deals with it. His

Although Meursault begins to have realizations of his actions and his own self, he is still being
judged by everyone as a stranger according to his actions in Part 1, a man who had no reasoning
or explanation behind anything he did. The reason Meursault shot the arab multiple times does
not exist, he had no reason to shoot him, but he just did. This once again shows absurdism,
because there is no explanation for his actions, and this disturbs the jury even more, and they
harshly judge him. Meursault is not the only stranger though. As he was seen as a stranger by
those who were judging him in Part 2, he saw those same people as strangers too. In Chapter
three, Meursault was under a ton of pressure in the court sessions, and as everyone was staring at
him, he could not recognize a single face. Everyone was a stranger to him, and With the crowd

What Does Fortunato Symbolize
The carnival setting represents madness and fantasy which is the symbol for Montresor s
mindset (Lorcher 1). The narrator s reason for choosing this time of year to act out his revenge is
intentional because crowds are easily distracted at this time and there is a strong likelihood that
his victim Fortunato is going to be tipsy. Fortunato s attire is another symbol. He is dressed as a
fool, a symbolic representation of what he is (Lorcher 1). The title The Cask of Amontillado
symbolizes two things. First, the cask is a container for liquids which has the same root word as
casket and symbolizes the death that is about to come for Fortunato (Lorcher 1). The second is the

This is ironical because of his misfortune buried alive in a catacomb. Many of Montresor s words
and actions are inundated with irony. At the beginning of the story, Montresor says, My dear
Fortunato, you are luckily met (11) leading Fortunato to believe he is glad to see his friend, but in
actuality Montresor is the lucky one because he can follow through with his plot for revenge and
murder at carnival time when people are less likely to notice someone missing. Another verbal
irony in the story takes place when Montresor says Come ... we will go back; your health is
precious (12) after Fortunato has a coughing fit due to the dampness of the catacombs. Fortunato
replies that I shall not die of a cough (12) to which Montresor replies True true (12). Montresor
knows that Fortunato s death will be a result of his own doing. Montresor s initial reaction to the
murder is not one of regret but rather his heart grew sick on account of the dampness of the
catacombs (15). He does not feel well because of the mustiness in the cellar. Poe s use of symbols

The Influence Of Supernatural Elements In Medieval Times
During the medieval times individuals lives were heavily influenced by supernatural elements.
Their lives were controlled by religion and churches. Unlike today, where people may choose to
be religious or not, in the medieval times religion was an important aspect of their everyday life.
It dominated their lives not only socially but financially as well. The churches would get paid to
protect the people from demons or any other evil supernatural forces that people feared.
However, people also believed they could be protected by saints, a religious man or woman that
has died and is considered holy. People would pray to different saints to receive help with any
struggles they were facing, every saint was said to have different ways of helping

Childhood Safety Regulations
Think about and comment on how child and adolescent safety regulations have changed over
the past few decades. Safety regulations have changed so much over the years. The different
things that have changed so much is child safety seats, bicycle safety laws, the age that a child
can be left alone by themselves, and swimming safety. These were not that big of a deal or a
problem in the past years. When my parents, were younger there was no seatbelts in cars. They
told me that the seats they were in when they were little has changed a lot in the years compared
to what we have today. But everything is getting better and better for young children. In today s

Essay on Social Polarisation
With reference to specific examples, critically discuss the contention that cities are becoming
increasingly polarised in the contemporary world.
Polarisation is a term that usually refers to extreme of two extreme situations . In this context,
social polarisation is examined in detail. Social polarisation is an expression associated with the
segregation within a society that may emerge from income inequality, real estate fluctuations,
economic displacements etc. and result in such differentiation that would consist of various social
groups, from high income to low income (Moulaert, F. et al. (2003)). This essay will outline the two
contrasting opinions that Sassen and Hamnett hold of the polarization thesis in the contemporary ...

In addition, there was a decline in middle income, blue collar jobs of the manufacturing sector. It
can be argued that however, the growth of employment in the clerks and service workers and shop
and market sales workers (see table 1) contradicts the theory. This occupational group mainly
consists of middle income occupation and their growth made up for the loss of those in the middle
income manufacturing sector. It can be concluded that although Cape Town has seen a marginally
polarizing employment growth (Borel Saladin, Crankshaw, 2009; 658) in the past twenty years, it
has not seen an absolute decline in middle income employment and therefore does not agree with
the social polarizing thesis.

Sydney, Australia is the second case study this essay will discuss, many of the scholars who
analysed the social polarization thesis only looked at cities within the US or Europe, although
helpful it can limit empirical discussion (Baum, 1997; 1882). Therefore looking at a global city out
of this zone that also has strong economic links with Hong Kong and Singapore will allow the
reader to understand the contention of polarisation in the contemporary world. It can be argued that
professionalization is occurring, the growth of professionals make up

Alfred Hitchcock Point Of View
Alfred Hitchcock s cinematic style contains an array of stylistic devices, notably the point of view
shot. Using point of view editing, the audience repeatedly [sees] events through the eyes of an
individual character. (Walker) The audience is privy to only what the character knows and likewise
absorbs the character s emotional journey. As the audience s emotional investment/identification
with the protagonistgrows, so does the plot amplifying the audience s empathy for the character s
heartache, longing, and anxiety, creating the perfect recipe for a suspenseful thriller. Hitchcock
employs point of view editing in the films, Rear Windowand Vertigoto exemplify the protagonist s

experiences the same emotions and anxiety as the protagonist. Hitchcock controls how much
information the audience is given by narrowing it a single character s perspective. Like Jeffries,

his wife. Additionally, the audience feels the same panic and fear when he witnesses Lisa being
trapped in the apartment by Lars. As Jeffries focuses more on each character, the audience learns
more about that character s personality and life. For instance, Jeffries nicknames a woman in a
lower floor, Miss Lonelyhearts. Together the audience witnesses with Jeffries Miss Lonelyhearts

identifying with her sadness, the audience feels an added sense of panic and anxiety when Miss

The Weimar Republic And The Treaty Of Versailles, League...
Freedom and Justice are twin sisters. This quote was obtained from Friedrich Ebert, in his
inaugural speech when he was elected President of the Weimar Republic in January of 1919. For
the past few months, I have been deeply analyzing and researching incessantly some reliable
sources to discuss some of the major events and factors that led to the failure of the Weimar
Republicwhich are the Treaty of Versailles, League of Nations, and poor leadership. Well, to start of
with, It all goes back to a small town in Germany called Weimar. In this German region, the first
constitutional assembly of the Weimar Republic occurred. The name Weimar Republic derives
after the location of where the convention took place. Not to mention, the Weimar Constitution
was formed after the votes of three political parties in Germany. Before I continue, how did the
Weimar Republic actually form? Before the start of World War One, the head of Germany was
Kaiser Wilhelm, and despite that he was one of the main causes of the war, he did not took
responsibility for it and took some of the German Government money and fled to the Netherlands.
Wilhelm was the Emperor of a Monarch Germany up to November 9, 1918, when the Chancellor of
that time, Prince Maximilian Von Baden announced the abdication of the Kaiser. Although Prince
Maximilian Von Baden was the chancellor for a short amount of time, he is seen as imperative for
the formation of Germany into a republic, however his liberal reputation was put

The Accounting Treatment Of Leases
Introduction
According to Steve Collings (2010), the accounting treatment of leases has presented a lot of
problems over the years for the particular profession. Problems are observed in the way some
leases are being treated in a business income statement and statement of financial position.
Although, as we are going to expand more on that, the major problem of accounting for leases
according to Collings (2010), is the manipulation of financial statements by incorrectly
categorizing finance leases as operating leases . The main purpose of the essay is to discuss why
accounting for leases has been so controversial and whether the new standard (IFRS16) will give a

Accounting Treatment for lessees
Finance Leases
According to IAS 17.20, at the beginning of the lease term, lessees shall recognise finance leases
as assets and liabilities in their statements of financial position at a lower or equal amount to the
fair value of the leased property and the present value of the minimum lease payments, determined
at the start of the lease. The discount rate used in calculation of the present value of the minimum
lease payments is the interest rate implied in the lease, if only is it feasible to determine. If it is
not possible, the lessee s incremental borrowing rate could be used. Therefore, any initial direct
costs of the lessee are added to the amount recognised as an asset. Furthermore, as stated by IAS

Analysis Of The Epic Of Old Mali

Primary Source Analysis
An Epic of Old Mali
Sundiata: an Epic of Old Mali was written by D.T. Niane and translated by G.C. Pickett. D.T.
Niane was a historian who received this version of Sundiata s epic from Djeli Mamoudou
KouyatГ©, a griot. In fact, there is not a true author for this epic due to the fact that it has been
transmitted orally for many years. This epic justly showed the type of culture Africa had at the time
taken place and has defined the type of people who use to reside there. Sundiata: an Epic of Old
Mali withholds many themes, but only some of importance: the transmission of the epic, politics,
religion, and destiny.
It can be argued that the orality of Sundiata versus the written translation is an important theme of
the epic of old Mali. This story has been translated several times into several different languages.
The epic of Sundiata originated as an oral epic performance that was performed by various African
griots or bards. It was a challenge translating the oral tradition into written form. Thus concluded
that orality is a better form of transmission than writing. Transmitting oral passages into writing can
be easily falsified. Oral communication is more unquestioning than writing. Interesting enough, the
griots are important persons who transmitted Sundiata: an Epic of Old Mali through many lineages.
Griots were not only historical orators, but they were also important political figures.

Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme
In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the
way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to
respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told,
Shotwell and the narrator do not trusteach other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the
other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what
counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s
intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme
uses repetition to show how the narrator s mindis deteriorating while being confined in a small
space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about
what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers,
believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for
one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep
himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in
isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and
focus on about how they are both unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the

The Education System Of Pakistan
The education system in Pakistan focuses mainly on primary education however you find that a
large number of children ages 5 9 are not attending schools and it would appear that primary
system needs to enlarge if universal primary enrolment is to be achieved (Lynd, 2007). In Pakistan,
there were 14 million girls studying in basic educationin 2005, compared to 18.3 million boys. In
other words, there were over 4 million more boys than girls in basic education. This is still an
issue in Pakistan where there are more number of boys in education than girls. The disparity in
favour of boys was prevalent at all levels of basic education, with the exception of the higher
secondary level where the number of girls was very close to equal to the number of boys, which
indicates that Pakistan displays a disparity in favour of girls at this stage of education. This implies
that many more boys than girls discontinued their education after secondary schoolwith the result
that their numbers matched those of the girls in the final level.
Those that can afford to pay to go school will be able to attend better and improved education but
those in rural areas are at disadvantage as they cannot afford to let their children go to school.
Governments allow primary education to be free for all as they believe every child should be
educated however the costs for uniform, stationary, lunch and funds makes it difficult for poorer
families to actually let their children go to school. Basic

Ghandi and His Fight Agains Discrimination in South Africa...
Gandhi is considered by many around the world as the father of the Indian independence
movement. Gandhi spent over 20 years in South Africa working to fight discrimination. It was in
South Africa that he developed his concept of Satyagraha, a non violent way of protesting against
discrimination. The first time Gandhi used Satyagraha was in South Africabeginning in 1907 when
he organized opposition to the Black Act. In 1907, the Black Act was passed, requiring all Indians
to keep registration documents on them at all times. Gandhi s first hand experiences in dealing with

Yes, you may. I refuse to get out voluntarily.
This incident began his life long battle against all discriminations. Although he debated returning to
India, his duty came first. It would be cowardice to run back to India without fulfilling my
obligation. The hardship to which I was subjected was superficial only a symptom of the deep
disease of colour prejudice. I should try, if possible, to root out the disease and suffer hardships
in the process. Redress for wrongs I should seek only to the extent that would be necessary for
the removal of the colour prejudice. Gandhi also faced the same discrimination on a coach from
Johannesburg to Charlestown, and learned the racial condescension of the racial slur coolie. A
coolie is a historical term for manual labourers and a racial slur. The term was used in America
towards the Chinese workers that built the railroad during the 19th and early 20th century and
toward the Indians indentured laborers. On the coach, a white passenger did not want a coolie

Enterprise Resource Planning in Business in India
CHAPTER I
Introduction
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
1.1.1 ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is one of the widely used software for managing and
integrating the whole business. It gives a real time view of business and uses a database in the
centre to manage and update the entire information flow in an organization. An ERP focuses on
three main aspects as its name suggests they are: Enterprise, Resource and Planning. It concentrates
on integrating all the departments in an organization which is considered to be the most difficult
part in an ERP implementation process.
The concept of ERP was initially applied to reduce the inventory costs and was mainly used in
manufacturing industry. The inventory levels were monitored and real time updates were done and
status reports were done. During 1970 s MRP (Material Requirements Planning) was majorly used
to schedule the production and understand the requirement of materials; later during 1980 s the
scope of MRP expanded to MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning) where it moved beyond
material handling and inventory control and extended itself to entire manufacturing operations like
Human resources, asset management etc.
These applications acted as the basic foundation for the ERP systems of today. ERP scope has
expanded way beyond manufacturing; its presence is inevitable in almost all the industries. It has
been able to accommodate all business functions by integrating both front and back end

Focused Ultrasound Essay
Focused ultrasound (FUS) is a platform technology based on sound waves above the range of
human detection that enables noninvasive treatment of numerous clinical conditions via the variety
of biological effects (bioeffects) it can produce in tissue. Though sound can be defined as waves of
compression and rarefaction propagated through an elastic medium, FUS is analogous to light
passing through a magnifying glass, in that multiple intersecting beams of sound can be
concentrated on a target within tissue with high precision and accuracy using an acoustic lens. The
diameter of the targeted focal point can be large or small and depends on the design of the lens and
the acoustic parameters. There is no bioeffect in the areas where each of the individual beams
passes through the tissue. However, the convergence of the multiple beams of focused ultrasound
energy at the focal point results in significant bioeffects. Because ultrasound can be transmitted
through the skin and skull noninvasively to targeted deep brainregions, it may offer alternative
approaches to existing methods of neuromodulation. While the exact mechanisms of
neuromodulation via FUS are not fully understood, a general overview of potential mechanisms
underlying the actions of ultrasound on neuronal excitability can be provided.

In Nepal, the tourism industry started in 1955 when it issued the first tourist visa at the request of

(CFHS, 2014) L OrГ©al Canada should work hard to ensure that all of our manufacturing
faculties comply with the standards of CCAC so that our faculties can be certified for good
animal practices as well. It is important that our researchers and manufacturers find alternative
methods to animal testing, and only resort to the use of animals when all else fails. If there is no
option but to use animals for the testing of cosmetic products, the number of animals used should
be minimized, and pain and discomfort for those animals should be reduced as well. This is how
the implementation of the three R s of ethics should be used with regards to animals in research so
that we have good business practices and consumers will be more willing to purchase our products.
Sections 444 447 under the Criminal Code of Canada protects the rights of animals against cruelty,
but it the provincial legislation that deals with the use of animals in research. (CFHS, 2014)
Quebec has a specific legislation for animals in research, but this legislation does not have the

The Financial Crisis Of 2008 Essay
The 2008 financial meltdown resulted in the most treacherous investment landscape observed since
the great depression. The most notorious issue was the subprime mortgage crisis, which had a
ripple effect felt through every market in the world. The banks, whose leverage rate should never
have been higher than two times capitalization, surged as high as thirty to forty times market cap.
With this level of exposure, any unforeseen market fluctuations could mean disaster. Lehman
Brothers, the oldest investment bank on Wall Street, went bankrupt and thousands lost their jobs.
Outside of finance, thousands of companies in the United States and abroad had to fire significant
portions of their workforce, thus furthering the economic decline and plunging the US into an
economic recession. In the late 1990s, Congress repealed the legislation separating commercial and
investment banks, which resulted in investment banks overreaching their bounds. The Emergency
Economic Stabilization Act of 2008was enacted due to the effects of the subprime mortgage crisis,
which allowed the US Treasury to spend billions of dollars to bail out the investment banks by
purchasing distressed assets. However, the bailoutplan has created a debate over whether it was a
good idea for the government to bailout the investment banks. Also, if the government fared better
or worse in the years following the bailout.

Ethical Ethics Of Lululemon
One of Lululemon s ethical issues that it is currently practiced is that Lululemon encourages
employees to ease drop on its customers to gain more knowledge on the current complaints/defects

wanting to avoid collecting large amounts of customer data through large data techniques. Rather,
the company aims to have a close and open relationship with its customers. Lululemon would rather
connect with its customers while they are shopping in the store or in its company offered yoga

of creating components for people to live longer, healthier, fun lives this philosophy led to
Lululemon seven core values: quality, product, integrity, balance, entrepreneurship, fun, and

a company, Lululemon values greatness as a key valuein how the company functions, they do this
by always striving to have the best quality products and to be the greatest company. However,
another key valueis integrity which it encourages its employees to have the quality of being honest

This utilized a great variety of wild beasts, mainly imported from Africa and the Middle East, and included creatures such as rhinoceros, hippopotamuses, elephants, giraffes, aurochs, wisents, Barbary lions, panthers, leopards, bears, Caspian tigers, crocodiles and ostriches. The Roman Coliseum was larger than the events that took place there, at 6 acres it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. Truly amazing. The Great Wall of China is great. *budum, tss* Did you know that before the Ming Dynasty, the Great Wall was mainly built from rammed earth, stones, and wood. During the Ming, however, bricks were heavily used in many areas of the wall. While portions north of Beijing and near tourist centers have been preserved and even extensively renovated, in many other locations the Wall is in disrepair. That is very sad. It s still great though! Christ the Redeemer is a truly amazing amazing statue, sure, maybe it it dwarfed by even The Statue of Liberty but it stands for some(Not so much) greater. Vincentian priest, Pedro Maria Boss, first suggested placing a Christian monument on Mount Corcovado in the mid 1850s to honor Princess Isabel, princess regent of Brazil and the daughter of Emperor Pedro II, however the project died due to lack of support. • 3. Analysis Of The Film Nightcrawler Nightcrawler Through The Homeric Perspective Have you ever been stuck in a bad mood that causes everything to happen in your day to seem bad? Have you ever had a good day with the opposite effect? Mood changes perspective on everything. You are always in a mood. Throughout different ages of the world, mood has always been there influencing the day to day choices. Hero s are portrayed in modern day society to be someone who is willing to risk their lives for others, would you consider a hero to be someone who films a toddler being stabbed? Or how about someone who films the murder of three people and deceives the police? By using mood in Gilroy s film the Nightcrawler character Louis Bloom represents a classical hero by following the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the film Bloom does everything to get the next shot to later show his colleagues. The audience can sense how desperate he is to get these gruesome videos. Viewers can look at the way Bloom reacts to how he missed an opportunity to get a video and see how he is truly consumed in his work. When he misses his opportunity for a film he screams and breaks the mirror. He truly expresses how he feels broken and how he let himself down. By letting himself down in a way, he lets God down because he did not please himself, (because he did not get the shot.) Bloom could be considered a contemporary Odysseus because he deceived the police to get a video from the news, but, by getting this video he unmasks the murders of the previous three person murder. This event could be compared to how Odysseus deceived the enemy by making a trojan horse. In this way deception, plays a role to make both Odysseus and Bloom similar. Nightcrawler could be classified as a story of a 21st heroic tale because it follows the key concepts of the Hero s journey. Bloom in Nightcrawler is a very structured character, he always remains true to his beliefs. When Bloom first gets the call to adventure as he sees the first sight of night crawling. Bloom goes through all the big developments of a hero. He meets his mentor Nina, as she pays him for the footage. • 5. Research paper on the beatles The Story of My Search Everyone, Americans and Europeans alike, have heard of, if not grown off of, a generation and culture started by an ensemble of four shaggy haired Liverpool musicians that the world went mad over; no one can deny that no greater event impacted today s pop culture than Beatlemania . But not everyone has heard the story behind the Beatles, who were they? How did they become the band and how did they make it big? What s the story of their struggle? Before researching, I already knew a lot about the Beatles. I knew that the band was made up of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Next came the co genius of this phenomenon, Paul McCartney. Born on June 18, 1942 to Jim and Mary Patricia Monin, Paul was the eldest of two boys in a very close knit family. He first attended Stockton Wood Road Primary School but was soon switched to Joseph Williams Primary School at Gateacre because their mother insisted on the best education for her boys. George Harold Harrison was born to Harry and Louise French Harrison on February 25, 1943 in Wavertree as the youngest of four children. • 7. Parenthood And Its Effects On The United States Planned Parenthood There is an ongoing argument about the funding of Planned Parenthood in the United States. There are many reasons that some people do not want to fund it. One of those reasons is because Planned Parenthood offers abortions to women. There are people who believe that these operations should be shut down to rid our country of abortions. However, Planned Parenthood offers much more than just abortions in their clinics. Planned Parenthood should be funded because of the examinations and resources they provide, the education they give, and because it is a low income health center. Planned Parenthood offers access to many important health examinations, procedures, treatments and medications. They offer breast cancer and cervical cancer exams. They test for STI s, HPV and UTI s to name a few. All of these tests and exams are preventative actions to not only see if someone has a health issue, but also to prevent health issues. They provide birth control to women who are not ready to have children. They also offer abortions. However, Planned Parenthood has decreased the number of abortions per year overall, including Vermont where Title X was passed to fund operations such as Planned Parenthood. This is because Planned Parenthood offers birth control therefore preventing unwanted pregnancies which may have ended in abortion (Zoppo 497). It is also important to note that Federal funding of Planned Parenthood does not fund abortions except for cases of rape, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Augustine was born in Northern Africa in AD 354. His father was a pagan and his mother a Christian. Though his parents were not extremely well to do, they had enough money to allow Augustine to obtain an education in the liberal arts. This education will eventually affect how he sees Christianity, especially concerning the use of neo Platonic ideas in Christian theology. Augustine converted to orthodox Christianity late in life. The most appealing idea of Christianity to Augustine was that it allowed for a logical view of God, as well having a certain amount of mystery. In Confessions, Augustine continually discusses the importance of his education in the liberal art as an important aspect of his understanding of Christianity. Using logic, Augustine understood the Christian ideas of sin, evil, and God s relationship to humanity and all creation. He believes it is a man s natural state to want to be near God spiritually, yet in their weak state of flesh, they often move away from the one thing they yearn for most, which is God. Augustine says of this, В…to praise you [God] is the desire of man, a little piece of your creation. You stir man to take pleasure in praising you, because you have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you . Since the idea of logic in religion was appealing for Augustine, it opened the door for the use of pagan philosophical ideals to enter Christian doctrine. Augustine was especially interested in the Platonist and Neo Platonists views on God. Throughout Confessions, Augustine uses many of these philosophical views to show that Christian ideals are indeed logical. He found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Anti Opium Movement, Opium War And Their Causes Haoyang Fan MMW 14 Summer 2015 July 23, 2015 TA: Joel Palhegyi Final Paper Anti Opium Movement, Opium War and Their Causes The main theme of 19th century was the imperialism expansion of western capitalistic industrial nations throughout the whole world. During this process, the conflicts between occidental imperialism powers and oriental countries never stopped. The First Opium War, well known as the Opium War, was the war that happened during September, 1839 to Autumn, 1842, between China and Britain. The war was initiated by the conflicts between China and Britain on the fact that some British merchants, who worked for the East India Company, smuggled opium to China and ignored Chinese laws. The mania of opium smoking shocked the Chinese government and triggered the anti opium movement. Lin Zexu, a Chinese official known as Commissioner Lin, burned out the confiscated opium at Humen. During the war, China suffered great loss and ended up with a disastrous fiasco. The result was extremely humiliating to China and profoundly changed the fate of China: China was compelled to sign a series of unequal treaties, cede Hong Kong and compensate huge war indemnity. When I viewed this miserable history of China, a question was created in my mind. Considering the great power gap between the declining China and the rising Britain, what factors led the Chinese government to launch the anti opium movement at the expense of triggering the Opium War? My answer is quite explicit: the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Van Gogh s Life It was on March 30, 1853, in Groot Zundert, Holland, that Vincent Willem Van Gogh was born to a preacher and an artist. His father, Theodorus Van Gogh, was described as an austere country minister who raised his sons in a religious atmosphere, while his mother, Anna Cornelia Carbentus, imparted on Vincent her love for color and art. While Vincent Van Gogh became known later in time for his heartbreaking backstory and troubled mind, melancholia remained a continuous theme in his life story even prior to his birth. In fact, Van Gogh was born exactly one year after Theodorus and Anna s first son, also named Vincent, was delivered stillborn. This tragic timing led Vincent Van Gogh to grow up with his name and birthdate already etched onto the headstone of his dead brother. At fifteen years of age, the Van Gogh family financial troubles forced their son Vincent to leave school and work at his Uncle s art dealership; even after leaving school this early in his life, Van Gogh was already fluent in French, German, and English, and had Dutch as his native language. This allowed for no language barrier when he was transferred to a London art gallery, where he fell in love with both English culture and Eugine Loyer. Teaching Phonics Is An Essential Part Of A Child s Education Understanding phonics is an essential part of a child s education, as the knowledge they develop will assist them to read and write. Educators must have an understanding of phonics to teach it effectively. Teachers need to support students to learn what sounds, letters make, which is a phoneme. Educators also need to assist students to make the connection with the letters and their names, which is called graphemes (Tompkins, Campbell, Green, Smith, 2015, p. 142). Understanding that each letter makes a different sound and connecting this to the letter is known as phonics, which is required for readingand writing. According to Miskin (2016, p. 9) the English language has more than 150 ways to represent the 44 phonemes, which are represented using the 26 letters of the alphabet or graphemes. Australian educators need to implement a successful phonics program, which is engaging by involving different strategies that are suitable to student s level. According to New South Wales (2009, p. 16) phonics must be taught in kindergarten and begins with songs, rhymes, and books. Synthetic and analytic are two different teaching strategies, which are used to teach students phonics. It can be argued that the orality of Sundiata versus the written translation is an important theme of the epic of old Mali. This story has been translated several times into several different languages. The epic of Sundiata originated as an oral epic performance that was performed by various African griots or bards. It was a challenge translating the oral tradition into written form. Thus concluded that orality is a better form of transmission than writing. Transmitting oral passages into writing can be easily falsified. Oral communication is more unquestioning than writing. Interesting enough, the griots are important persons who transmitted Sundiata: an Epic of Old Mali through many lineages. Griots were not only historical orators, but they were also important political figures. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told, Shotwell and the narrator do not trusteach other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme uses repetition to show how the narrator s mindis deteriorating while being confined in a small space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and focus on about how they are both unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the readers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Education System Of Pakistan The education system in Pakistan focuses mainly on primary education however you find that a large number of children ages 5 9 are not attending schools and it would appear that primary system needs to enlarge if universal primary enrolment is to be achieved (Lynd, 2007). In Pakistan, there were 14 million girls studying in basic educationin 2005, compared to 18.3 million boys. In other words, there were over 4 million more boys than girls in basic education. This is still an issue in Pakistan where there are more number of boys in education than girls. The disparity in favour of boys was prevalent at all levels of basic education, with the exception of the higher secondary level where the number of girls was very close to equal to the number of boys, which indicates that Pakistan displays a disparity in favour of girls at this stage of education. This implies that many more boys than girls discontinued their education after secondary schoolwith the result that their numbers matched those of the girls in the final level. Those that can afford to pay to go school will be able to attend better and improved education but those in rural areas are at disadvantage as they cannot afford to let their children go to school. Governments allow primary education to be free for all as they believe every child should be educated however the costs for uniform, stationary, lunch and funds makes it difficult for poorer families to actually let their children go to school. • 32. Ghandi and His Fight Agains Discrimination in South Africa... Gandhi is considered by many around the world as the father of the Indian independence movement. Gandhi spent over 20 years in South Africa working to fight discrimination. It was in South Africa that he developed his concept of Satyagraha, a non violent way of protesting against discrimination. The first time Gandhi used Satyagraha was in South Africabeginning in 1907 when he organized opposition to the Black Act. In 1907, the Black Act was passed, requiring all Indians to keep registration documents on them at all times. Gandhi s first hand experiences in dealing with discrimination began in South Africa. You must leave this compartment, or else I shall have to call a police constable to push you out. Yes, you may. I refuse to get out voluntarily. This incident began his life long battle against all discriminations. Although he debated returning to India, his duty came first. It would be cowardice to run back to India without fulfilling my obligation. The hardship to which I was subjected was superficial only a symptom of the deep disease of colour prejudice. I should try, if possible, to root out the disease and suffer hardships in the process. Redress for wrongs I should seek only to the extent that would be necessary for the removal of the colour prejudice. Gandhi also faced the same discrimination on a coach from Johannesburg to Charlestown, and learned the racial condescension of the racial slur coolie. A coolie is a historical term for manual labourers and a racial slur. The term was used in America towards the Chinese workers that built the railroad during the 19th and early 20th century and toward the Indians indentured laborers. On the coach, a white passenger did not want a coolie sitting inside with the other whites. Instead, he insisted that Gandhi sit on the floor at his feet on a sack. When Gandhi refused, the man physically assaulted him the man came down upon me and began heavily to box my ear. He seized me by the arm and tried to drag me down. I clung to the brass ... • 34. Enterprise Resource Planning in Business in India CHAPTER I Introduction 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY 1.1.1 ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is one of the widely used software for managing and integrating the whole business. It gives a real time view of business and uses a database in the centre to manage and update the entire information flow in an organization. An ERP focuses on three main aspects as its name suggests they are: Enterprise, Resource and Planning. It concentrates on integrating all the departments in an organization which is considered to be the most difficult part in an ERP implementation process. The concept of ERP was initially applied to reduce the inventory costs and was mainly used in manufacturing industry. The inventory levels were monitored and real time updates were done and status reports were done. During 1970 s MRP (Material Requirements Planning) was majorly used to schedule the production and understand the requirement of materials; later during 1980 s the scope of MRP expanded to MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning) where it moved beyond material handling and inventory control and extended itself to entire manufacturing operations like Human resources, asset management etc. These applications acted as the basic foundation for the ERP systems of today. ERP scope has expanded way beyond manufacturing; its presence is inevitable in almost all the industries. It has been able to accommodate all business functions by integrating both front and back end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Focused Ultrasound Essay Focused ultrasound (FUS) is a platform technology based on sound waves above the range of human detection that enables noninvasive treatment of numerous clinical conditions via the variety of biological effects (bioeffects) it can produce in tissue. Though sound can be defined as waves of compression and rarefaction propagated through an elastic medium, FUS is analogous to light passing through a magnifying glass, in that multiple intersecting beams of sound can be concentrated on a target within tissue with high precision and accuracy using an acoustic lens. The diameter of the targeted focal point can be large or small and depends on the design of the lens and the acoustic parameters. There is no bioeffect in the areas where each of the individual beams passes through the tissue. However, the convergence of the multiple beams of focused ultrasound energy at the focal point results in significant bioeffects. Because ultrasound can be transmitted through the skin and skull noninvasively to targeted deep brainregions, it may offer alternative approaches to existing methods of neuromodulation. While the exact mechanisms of neuromodulation via FUS are not fully understood, a general overview of potential mechanisms underlying the actions of ultrasound on neuronal excitability can be provided. (CFHS, 2014) L OrГ©al Canada should work hard to ensure that all of our manufacturing faculties comply with the standards of CCAC so that our faculties can be certified for good animal practices as well. It is important that our researchers and manufacturers find alternative methods to animal testing, and only resort to the use of animals when all else fails. If there is no option but to use animals for the testing of cosmetic products, the number of animals used should be minimized, and pain and discomfort for those animals should be reduced as well. This is how the implementation of the three R s of ethics should be used with regards to animals in research so that we have good business practices and consumers will be more willing to purchase our products. Sections 444 447 under the Criminal Code of Canada protects the rights of animals against cruelty, but it the provincial legislation that deals with the use of animals in research. • 40. The Financial Crisis Of 2008 Essay The 2008 financial meltdown resulted in the most treacherous investment landscape observed since the great depression. The most notorious issue was the subprime mortgage crisis, which had a ripple effect felt through every market in the world. The banks, whose leverage rate should never have been higher than two times capitalization, surged as high as thirty to forty times market cap. With this level of exposure, any unforeseen market fluctuations could mean disaster. Lehman Brothers, the oldest investment bank on Wall Street, went bankrupt and thousands lost their jobs. Outside of finance, thousands of companies in the United States and abroad had to fire significant portions of their workforce, thus furthering the economic decline and plunging the US into an economic recession. In the late 1990s, Congress repealed the legislation separating commercial and investment banks, which resulted in investment banks overreaching their bounds. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008was enacted due to the effects of the subprime mortgage crisis, which allowed the US Treasury to spend billions of dollars to bail out the investment banks by purchasing distressed assets. However, the bailoutplan has created a debate over whether it was a good idea for the government to bailout the investment banks. Also, if the government fared better or worse in the years following the bailout. The financial crash of 2008 created two paradigms, bailout and bankruptcy and to this day it is ...
