Student Code Of Professional Responsibility
As members of Western College of Law, and, moreover, as members of the legal and academic
communities, students must hold themselves to the highest standards of ethical behavior. An
individual whose actions impugn the integrity of his self or herself necessarily impugn the integrity of
the institutions and communities in which they are permitted membership. Moreover, those who
would practice law have a sworn duty to the People, who must trust in the honor and integrity of their
legal advocates and representatives. If the People lose faith in the law, the law loses its efficacy as a
tool for the public good. Therefore, as protectors of the academic and professional ethics of this
honorable profession, this board has a sacred duty to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Section IV (A)(1)(2) and (3) of the Student Code of Professional Responsibility (Student Code)
dictates, [a]ny conduct pertaining to academic or other University matters that evidences fraud, deceit,
[or] dishonesty constitutes a violation of the Student Code. Furthermore, it states, [a]ny criminal act
that raises serious doubts about the accused student s honesty, integrity or fitness to practice law
constitutes a violation of the student code. Mr. O Shea committed this act purposefully and knowingly
in violation of section IV (B). The Committee should expel Mr. Oshea from Western College of Law.
Admission to the State Bar will require that Mr. Oshea to prove that he [i]s a person of good moral
character, which may be proved by any evidence satisfactory to the court. Furthermore, the State Bar
often considers an applicant s financial integrity. In Application of Taylor, the Supreme Court of
Oregon denied the applicant, relying heavily on the evidence that the he had committed theft and that
he had exhibited dishonest financial practices. Mr. Oshea s offense covers both of these grounds with
a single act. The Committee should apply the same logic to its decision. Though this recommendation
is admittedly severe, the details Mr. Oshea s actions clearly warrant expulsion. Mr. Oshea intentionally
committed fraud. As a law student, he cannot reasonably claim ignorance to the illegality of his
actions. Additionally, Mr. O Shea stole a sum of

Little Tracey Character Analysis
The book is taking place in community in Australia. It s about a group who friends who sit waiting for
the bus at the bus shelter. At the bus shelter they play a game. The game being that they make up
stories and they keep it going. One day one of the characters, whose name is Anna, tells a story in
honor for another character, whose named Little Tracey, about a girl. Not just any ordinary girl, but the
daughter of Adolf Hitler. The name of the girl in the story who is Hitler s daughter is Heidi. In Anna s
story Hitler doesn t really like the fact his daughter isn t of perfect race . His definition of perfect race
would be blue eyes, blond hair, tall children who could run and jump and conquer the world, however;
his daughter was small like him, and dark, and her face was marked like an iron had burnt across it,
and she limped. (French 11) In Anna s story Heidi did not have a mum that she must ve died because
Heidi never met her either.
Throughout Anna telling the story Mark (a friend from the group) becomes more interested in her
story. He continues to ask questions that he has about the specific part that Anna is telling about in her
story. Questions pertaining to the relationship between Heidi and her father; Hitler. Questions like how
can Heidi want someone like Hitler, her father, to love her if he is so cruel. Asking Anna how can
Heidi not know about the concentration camps that her father had when she was his daughter that she
must know everything about him. The

A Gaseous Substance
PVD is similar to CVD but the plasma is induced from solid material through ionisation of a gaseous
substance (sputtering) or through evaporation. Processing is done in a vacuum, where the deposition
material is excited with plasma to form vapour. Reactive gas is then introduced which reacts with the
vapour and the resulting compound adheres to the substrate. Parts undergo multiaxial rotation to
produce uniform coating thickness. This is a high temperature process, generally 400 800K, generally
used when electro plating is not viable.12 14 As with CVD, there are multiple process variants
including evaporation, ion plating and sputtering PVD.
Commonly, it is used to repair abrasively damaged components due to ease of implementation and
portability. Comparatively, this process uses low temperature, so no metallurgical substrate changes
occur, minimising dimensional changes due to material distortion. Disadvantages include the line of
sight nature of the process, only allowing coatings deposition on visible surfaces. This makes coating
small or deep cavities difficult and therefore other deposition techniques must be used.12,16 An
overview of these and additional surface processing techniques is given in Figure 4.5.
Many techniques exist to affect the surface properties of materials without altering chemical
composition, referred to as surface hardening. Commonly this is done by flame hardening, induction
hardening and shot peening. Additionally, surfaces can be hardened by

How To Make A Baking Soda And Vinegar Bottle Rocket
When we began our experiment we were attempting to figure out which ratio of baking soda to
vinegar produced the most thrust (or which ratio produced the most carbon dioxide). We were
planning to do this by creating a baking soda and vinegar bottle rocket and measuring the distance that
the bottle rocket flew. Our hypothesis was that an equal mix of baking soda and vinegar would cause
the biggest reaction. We then proceeded with our experiment. Unfortunately, we were not able to get
the bottle rocket to launch. We did four tests with our unit of measurement being a Ā½ cup; two with a
1:2 ratio , two with a 1:1 ratio, two with a 2:1 ratio, and (based on our results) two with a 3:1 ratio. In
our 1st test, the 1:2 ratio, we calculated that the

Disadvantages Of Privatization In Malaysia
Privatization is an instrument in a wider collection of tools for attracting investment and to improve
the structure and performance (level of output and efficiency) of economic sectors in a country. This is
because to stimulate investment and to grow simultaneously in economies in Malaysia face significant
challenges. They have legitimate expectations of strengthening sometimes fragile infrastructure and
bringing short supply of essential services into some sort of balance with demand. They have
legitimate wider social goals that are ultimately just as important in the functioning of an economy.
These goals include promoting interaction and shared opportunities between rural areas and cities,

Realistic Job Preview and Employee Turnover
EMPLOYEE TURNOVER Employee turnover is sometimes the most expensive part of a business. It
is the process of an employee leaving and then having to fill that spot on the workforce. The problem
with turnover is that with each new person a corporation or small business hires, that small business or
corporation is spending sometimes thousands of dollars, not to mention countless hours, be able to
hire, train and get the employee used to working within the ranks of your business. This is time and
money no small business or other company has to waste, but unfortunately some turnover rates are as
high as 95 percent, meaning that only 5 percent of employees have been within the company for a
long period. Employee turnover is also something that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tangible ways in which job satisfaction benefits the organization include reduction in complaints and
grievances, absenteeism, turnover, and termination; as well as improved punctuality and worker
morale. Job satisfaction is also linked to a more healthy work force and has been found to be a good
indicator of longevity. And although only little correlation has been found between job satisfaction and
productivity, Brown (1996) notes that some employers have found that satisfying or delighting
employees is a prerequisite to satisfying or delighting customers, thus protecting the bottom line. No
wonder Andrew Carnegie is quoted as saying: Take away my people, but leave my factories, and soon
grass will grow on the factory floors. Take away my factories, but leave my people, and soon we will
have a new and better factory (quoted in Brown, 1996, p. 123). CREATING JOB SATISFACTION
So, how is job satisfaction created? What are the elements of a job that create job satisfaction?
Organizations can help to create job satisfaction by putting systems in place that will ensure that
workers are challenged and then rewarded for being successful. Organizations that aspire to creating a
work environment that enhances job satisfaction need to incorporate the following: * Flexible work
arrangements, possibly including telecommuting * Training and other

The Application of Erik Erikson s Theories Essay
Erik Erikson was a researcher of the Psychodynamic perspective who lived through the years 1902 to
1994. He developed a theory that dealt with the stages of human development and was referred to as a
Neo Freudian. A Neo Freudian are those who have revised Sigmund Freud s theory (Massey, 1986).
His theory argued that both society and culture challenge and shape us (Feldman, 2011). Erik Erikson
s theory of psychological development does not specify specific ages, so the age categories can only
be guessed upon. It is my personal thought that this was a smart move due to different age milestones
for different cultures. The essay titled Erik Erikson: Ages, stages, and stories argues that the stages are
organized into a system of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the individual s needs are not met in this stage the individual will most likely develop a mistrust that
will hamper relationship in the future. The relationship between parent and caregiver is vital. It is
during the first months of life that the baby comes to trust or not, to have faith or not. Whether trust
and faith are developed has direct implications for identity formation (Goodwin, 1998) The goal of
this stage is to gain Hope .
Our subject Belinda was born prematurely on May 23, 1990. During the early part of life the subject
was very sickly as an infant. This did not seem to effect Belinda s formation of Trust. According to the
subject s mother, Patricia Hickman, Belinda was a very trusting and happy baby, besides being colic.

Early Childhood: Autonomy v. Shame.
Early Childhood is roughly from 18 months to 3 years. During early childhood, the second stage of
Erikson s theory manifests; this stage is called Autonomy v. Shame. In this stage, the psycho social
theme of autonomy shame and doubt is manifested during toddlerhood and leads to self will or will
power. (Ginsburg, 1992) If all the needs of the individual are met at this stage they develop a feeling
of self control and power over themselves. If the individual s needs are not met in this stage they tend
to develop feelings of shame and doubt in themselves. If individuals

Research Paper On Metabolic Syndrome
Metabolic syndrome
This is a multiple condition; high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist,
and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels that occur together, increasing the risk of heart disease,
stroke and diabetes. Large waist circumference is a visible sign. Metabolic syndrome is linked to
overweight or obesity and inactivity and also to insulin resistence, when cells don t respond normally
to insulin, and glucose can t enter the cells as easily. As a result, glucose levels in your blood rise
despite the body s attempt to control the glucose by producing more insulin.
The risk of metabolic syndrome increases with age and is greater in specific races.

Topic of research: The effect of dietary nitrates on weight maintenance in obese population following
a 10% weight loss
TITLE
The effect of dietary nitrates on weight maintenance in obese population following a 10% weight loss
BACKGROUND
Dietary nitrates are inorganic inert anionic compounds in fruits, vegetables and cured meats. About 80
85% of the nitrate in our diets is derived from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We hypothesize the nitrate to have significant implication on the post weight loss RMR and possibly
cause relapsing of the weight loss.
STUDY DESIGN AND OUTCOMES
A 6 month randomized three way crossover trial consisting of three groups: 20 healthy, 20 obese, and
20 mixed participants (placebo group for nitrate supplementation)is proposed. All groups will be
screened for thyroid function, hepatitis A B and HIV).All participants will be kept on a low nitrate
weight maintenance diet formula till the weight remains constant for 2 weeks (weight change 10 g/d).
RMR is measured using indirect calorimetry. They are then fed a hypocaloric diet(800 kcal/d) until a
10% weight loss is achieved(estimated time 12 weeks).RMR and weight is measured again. The
formula diet is reinstated and 0.1mmol/kg/d inorganic nitrate for a period of 3 weeks is given along
with it to the two groups excluding the placebo group. RMR, plasma and salivary nitrite levels and
weight changes are recorded.
SIGNIFICANCE
The only study on effect of nitrates on RMR was on healthy humans and no study has been done to
study their effect on weight maintenance. Obesity is a serious condition and long term maintenance of
target weight by obese individuals is not very successful(Wing Phelan, 2005). This study aims study
the differences in RMR changes after a nitrate rich diet between obese and healthy subjects and see
the practical implications of a reduced RMR by dietary nitrates consumption on

The devices connected with I2C bus are either master nodes or slave nodes. The master node
generates the clock and initiates communication with slaves while the slave node receives clock signal
and give a response to the master when its address is requested. It is necessary to stress that I2C bus is
a multi master bus which means any number of master nodes can be attached. Usually a bus device
operates in one or two modes of four modes operation which are master transmit, master receive, slave

The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh
With Indo Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The Shadow Lines, of Amitav
Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the partition inflicted psyches. A nation draws
boundary to separate its people from other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the borders
are not strong enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and history. How
can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage? In fact the makers of
the sensational news about the violence on the borders consciously forget the truth that one cannot
divide the memories of the people and in turn tries to foster in them hatred for the people across the
border. The novel helps us think of a free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a Bengali, Ghosh brings into focal point the partition on the Bengal border. Though the novel
concentrates much on a single family it rides through the heart of the wounded India, Pakistan and
Bangladesh and covers a large span of India s freedom struggle. The narrator of Ghosh s novel is a
young boy born and brought up in Kolkata in the post partition India. If the purpose of partition was to
give freedom to the people, that freedom was a nightmare for the Bengalese. While reading the
newspaper, Amitav Ghosh s narrator is forced to ask: Why don t they draw thousands of little lines
through the whole subcontinent and give every place a new name? What would it change? It s a
mirage; the whole thing is a mirage. How can anyone divide a memory? (TSL 247) In fact freedom
was just a mirage for the people on the borders. The line was drawn through their heart; many of them
lost their home land; they were cut off from the root. Life in a translated world, away from their
homeland was something horrible for many. The grandmother of Ghosh s narrator is such a person
who lost herself in between the line, being born on one side and living on the other side of the

Many readers infer that John Wilson is a homeless man in the short story, Zebra, by Chaim Potok, but
this claim has been proven otherwise throughout the story. This quote proves that John Wilson is, in
fact, not homeless: The sender was John Wilson, with a return address in Virginia (Potok 60). The
reader can assume from this quote that John Wilson does occupy a home due to the fact that there was
a return address labeled on the envelope. In the story, Zebra also realizes that John Wilson is not a
hobo because he notices the return address in Virginia on the large brown envelope. This quote is
another piece of evidence that displays that John Wilson does have a home: I leave it near his name for

Essay on Morality in the Elizabethan Era
Morality in the Elizabethan Era Values and morals of the Victorian era are quite different than those
that our society upholds today. The satirical plays, A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen, and Pygmalion by
George Bernard Shaw, examine the problems with certain beliefs held by the people, both men and
women, of the Victorian age. Furthermore, the people in general didn t not just hold certain morals,
but the different classes in the Victorian society also held their own beliefs on moral code. Of which,
the middle class beliefs are most closely examined in both plays. Men and women were expected by
others in Victorian society to uphold certain moral behaviors. These expectations caused many
problems for the individual that upheld them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This time the women are seen expecting the man to care for them, like in Freddy s case. You really are
very helpless, Freddy. Go again; and don t come back until you have found a cab (Shaw 574). Because
Freddy is a male, he is expected by his mother and sister to find a cab for them in the rain when there
are none in sight. Even on the streets men will defend women who they don t even know. What
business is it of yours? You mind your own affairs....Nice thing a girl cant shelter from the rain
without being insulted, (Shaw 576). Bystanders noticing the flower girl is upset by the note taker, they
defend her, if she were a man they would have expected her to fend for herself. The second
requirement that makes a man a man in Victorian times is his perfect family. There they are!...Look at
them, Christine! Aren t they darlings? (Ibsen 19). Nora is showing off her perfect little children to her
friend Mrs. Linde. Yes, take a good look at her. I think she is worth looking at. Isn t she charming,
Mrs. Linde? (Ibsen 53). Torvald is now showing off his prize trophy, his wife, as if Mrs. Linde really
cares. With a perfect wife and children Torvald can be seen as a true hard working, good man. Yet,
many times these seemingly good values are flawed underneath. There are many problems with these
values imposed on men in Victorian times. In the case of protecting his woman, we see Torvald s true
colors in the end of the play after he discovers Nora s

Department Business Targets Into Our Daily Routines
department business targets into our daily routines. Using the MBO methodology of collaborative
planning GTPLS Gippsland operation has developed an activity based strategic plan that focuses on
our efforts towards the delivery of specific outcomes. These outcomes will in turn, lead to the
achievement of our goals and reaching the company s vision.
The success of this plan / strategy relies on a commitment to implementation and regular monitoring
of our progress no matter what we strive to achieve with the business planning process it will become
an exercise in theory unless there are mechanisms by which progress towards our stated outcomes are
reviewed and measured. To that end, the introduction of performance measurement is the key to this
plan and The Company s financial management (including contracted accountant) will be responsible
for collation of data and monitoring of business plan activities for presentation at proposed monthly
management meeting s with the key performance information being formally reported to management
and GTPLS staff at that time.
While dedicated planning is essential, rigid adherence to a faulty plan will lead to poor performance or
failure. A key aspect of successful planning is ongoing evaluation and flexibility, and it is intended
that this plan will be reviewed on a regular basis. This will ensure that all key business targets and
activities remain appropriate mechanisms for achieving both company s sales targets and strategic

Evaluate the Role and Benefit of Self-Service Technology...
In today s world, information technology advancement has prompted the development of self service
technologies. Self service technologies (SSTs) are the technological interfaces that allow customers to
co produce the services to serve by their own. It has brought significant changes to service retailers as
it has changed the way that how firms provide services to customers and how customers interact with
firm. It enables customers perform entire services by themselves without direct assistance from
employees and makes service transactions become more accurate and convenient. Kiosks, Internet,
interactive voice response, and mobile services are types of SSTs that using by firms. (Castro et al.,

For example, regarding the use of SSTs in airline service, passengers can check in at airport by using
the check in kiosks themselves instead of lining up in front of the service counter to check in.
According to SITA s Airline IT Trends Survey ļ¬ndings (SITA, 2009), it forecasts that the use of agent
service for check in will be dropped almost 30% and use of self service check in kiosks will be
increased almost 8% by 2012. It shows that there is a trend that passengers are more likely to use the
SSTs to serve them by their own and the use of agent services will be decreased. So the airline
companies can hire fewer crews for providing the agent services and it would then reduce the cost of
training their employees for performing the agent services. According to Forrester Research (Jones,
2004), self service check in costs an airline 16 cents per passenger as opposed to $3.68 per passenger
by means of an airline agent. Thus, it means that a company which has employed SSTs may lower
their cost as the cost of employing SSTs is much lower than the rising labor cost.
Another benefit of employing SSTs to service retailers is that it may gain a competitive advantage
over competitors. Delivery of high service quality is a primary source of competitive advantage for
service providers. As co production through SSTs has become more popular

organizational best practices fall into four primary categories, namely Executive support, HR
Practices, Leadership Strength, and Team Structure (Gratton Erickson, 2007).
Executive Support: Investing in Signature relationship practices
The success or failure of virtual team collaboration in organizations is often reflected in the
philosophies and support of its executives. For example, when company executives demonstrate
collaborative behaviors and create collaborative environments where social interactions thrive, virtual
team collaboration also thrives. Executives achieve this by establishing, encouraging, and maintaining
strong social interactions throughout the organization. These practices are often tailored to the unique
culture of the organization and are effective because of its unique signature or fit to the organization.
By investing in signature relationship practices, executives can encourage collaboration across the
organization (Gratton Erickson, 2007).

4 Functions of Management
The management process contains four basic functions; planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
By using these key tools, one can create an organization as a whole consisting of unified parts acting
in harmony to achieve goals, both successfully and proficiently. It is vital for an organization manager
to implement these functions to ensure the success of the company. The functions of management are
described, according to (Bateman, Snell, 2004) as follows: Planning is specifying the goals to be
achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals. Planning
activities include analyzing current situations, anticipating the future, determining objectives, deciding
in what types of activities the company ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One guy has the job of inventory. He has to take inventory of all equipment. He has to gather all users
names and assign them with a workstation. And the last guy has to work with the other IT
departments, with the information at hand from the inventory, and associate each workstation with a
printer package and workstation object. Our manager has to also organize the rollout. How are we
going to get to the new location and what is the time frame which this needs to be completed. Leading
is going to also be an important factor with this project. Our manager needs to motivate us to actually
wanting to work very late on Friday and all day Saturday. Our manager needs to be able to
communicate with us and let us know what we have to do at that very moment. The leader needs to
keep us on the right track and focus on the goal at hand. This entails him to be present during the
rollout. I believe we will be motivated if he is present during the rollout, giving a helpful hand where
ever he can. Even if it isn t much, anything is better than nothing at all. The final function is
controlling. Management will have to monitor our progress during the rollout and decide what actions
need to be taken to improve. In past projects similar to this one, we ran into a few problems and
management had to reconfigure its game plan to make everything work out fine in the end. In one
instance, the cubicles that were

Building a Portfolio for Retirement Essay
Building a Portfolio for Retirement According to a survey conducted by the Savings Education
Council last year, 24% of all workers were not confident that they were prepared to retire comfortably.
Upon retirement we would like to maintain a certain level of income and lifestyle such as that
established in the prime of our earning career. Through proper planning this goal can be achieved. I
am going to establish the need for investments/ savings through the life cycle model of consumption. I
will then walk through standard retirement plans showing that additional funding will likely be needed

I will be defining an ideal make up of a retirement portfolio from the perspective that savings began at
middle age or mid career with approximately 20 years worth of savings.
There are several standard means of retirement investing. The U.S. Social Security system is not a bad
start, for most however, this is not enough to retire comfortably on. On average, an individual could
expect $800 per month from Social Security. An individual who maximized contributions to Social
Security could expect $1400 per month. Considering that an individual in his/her prime earnings could
be bringing in over $4000 per month, Social Security would not be enough.
Employer retirement plans in addition to Social Security are an even better start. Plans for smaller
companies include SIMPLE IRAs and SEP plans, a basic definition: contributions are limited, but
contributed into by both employer and employee. They offer tax deductible contributions and tax
deferred investment build up. Plans for larger companies include 401 (k) and 403 (k) plans, these
plans usually allow the employee to choose among several pre chosen mutual funds, the employer
matches contributions, and these contributions are made before taxing income, thereby reducing tax
now in the present.
And IRAs, which allow a retirement account for nonworking spouses, however, IRAs are not as
beneficial as

Jetblue Customer Service Delivery Breakdown
Introduction
This paper hopes to delve into the Jetblue Customer Service delivery breakdown, from February 14,
2007, that nearly caused the company to collapse. It will look at the customer service aspect and
compare the expectations of what the customer had come to expect and what the company actually
delivered. It will look into the customer service, that lead to JetBlue s early success and competitive
edge against other airlines. It will examine if the Low Cost Airline can continue to maintain its High
Frills Status. It will look at the impact the breakdown had on the customers, stakeholders, the role
ambiguity on how the employees and managers used to handle situations with their wait and see
mentality, and the lack of perceived situational control from its employees. We will attempt to predict
what JetBlue should try and prepare for and I will give my personal opinion on JetBlue s response to
the breakdown in service in regards to the customer service communication gap and my
recommendations with moving forward.

Sensible Violence Within Cultural Texts Essay examples
According to Ian Almond in the article Mullahs, Mystics, Moderates and Moghuls: The Many Islams
of Salman Rushdie , Rushdie wrote this piece from a medieval religiousness perspective, most
pointedly making use of symbols such as the ancient holy relic whose disappearance inspires
countless deaths (Almond 3). These violent deaths mark something more in the theme of the book;
presumptuously, Rushdie is attempting to enlighten his readers with the many faces of Islam, this
particular story showing the face of Islam who s built in obsolescence stifles the new (Almond 3). The

Salman s select choice in killing them both in these different ways could be a symbolic of defined
Islamic gender roles, such that women are justifiably slaughtered by their superiors, while men are
indirectly killed. Instances like this exemplify Salman s negative tone towards old Islam; no religious
culture should turn to violent outbreaks so drastically and he s using these instances to prove that
point. in his somnolent anger, the moneylender thrust his sword fatally through its [Atta s] heart

justify selfishly keeping the vial for himself, in his remorse, which is solidified in killing himself. For
the reader, this evokes sympathy toward his character, as the blame for his actions is passed on to the
hair s evil magic. Out of this emerges a theme of individualism versus collectivism; the first side of
Hashim is individualism, as he sought to inculcate... a healthy independence of spirit in his children.
In addition, he presents himself to be not a godly man , but rather as a man who lives honorably,

Child Welfare In Canada Essay
It is the assumption of many that Canada is a nation free of racism. Canadians pride themselves on
being culturally diverse and accepting, and on having relatively progressive social policies such as that
of universal healthcare. However, there are many ways in which the current and historical policies
have expressed explicit racism that have left an already marginalized population with the crumbs of
society. A prime example of this can be demonstrated in the mass overrepresentation of Aboriginal
youth in care. By the year 2010, there were around twenty seven thousand Indigenous children in the
Canadian child welfare system who were living in some sort of out of home care (Chappell, 2014).
Although they represented only seven percent of the children in Canada, they made up 48 percent of
all children in foster care. (Yukselir Annett, 2016). This phenomenon is not a recent trend, as it has
been occurring since the very creation of modern child welfare in Canada as it is known, and it has its
roots deep in Canadian history. This paper will demonstrate a timeline of the events which have lead
to this phenomenon in Canada, specifically focusing on the province of Ontario. Important facts which
may have contributed to the overrepresentation of this population will be discussed, such as historical
methods of colonization in regards to child welfare including the implementation of the residential
school system and the Sixties Scoop. Policies that have also had a profound impact,

efficient way to keep your country safe from failure.
After the stock market crashed in 1929, Americans began to scramble to the banks to withdraw their

Depression. In 1933, President Roosevelt created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which
would insure deposits to a certain limit with money pooled by other banks. This not only meant that
people s money was safe, but it boosted the confidence of the citizens. Taking action against the bank

the wood around your window is rotting. Unfortunately, once the wood starts rotting, you can t stop
the process. However, you can patch the wood and allow yourself some time to save up to replace the

wood from the window frame. In order to remove the rotted wood, you are going to need a chisel, a
knife and small paintbrush. Take the chisel and use it to slowly chip away at the rotting wood. You

The following figure shows the agarose gel results of the digested DNA plasmids 1 and 2 as well as

The product of the restriction enzyme digestion of plasmid DNA was analysed visually on agarose

Integrin. The identity of the plasmid fragment in plasmid 2 at 501 bp is determined to be VEGF.
The isolated DNA plasmid is quantitated using UV absorbance and SYBR Green fluorescent methods.
The concentration of plasmids 1 and 2, using UV absorbance, was established to be 3227 Āµg/mL and
3951 Āµg/mL, respectively. This method also determines the 260/280 ratio for plasmid 1 which was
1.390 and for plasmid 2 which was 1.342. Furthermore, the plasmids are both contaminated with
proteins. The SYBR Green fluorescent method is more accurate than the UV absorbance method since
it is more specific for double stranded DNA molecules. Therefore, the SYBR Green assay results are
lower than those obtained in the UV absorbance and are estimated to be 163 Āµg/mL and 202 Āµg/mL,

The Glass Ceiling In The Workplace
Over the past few years, the percentage of women in lower managerial positions has increased
tremendously while the number of women who reach the top is still just a small proportion. They are
held back by an invisible barrier that is named the glass ceiling (Dreher, 2003).
The glass ceiling is a concept that is repeatedly used in studies, analyzing inequalities between men
and women in the workplace (Baxter Wright, 2000). The phenomenon glass ceiling has been used
universally in the media as well as in official government reports (US Department of Labor, 1991; A
fact finding report of the Federal glass ceiling commission, 1995) and academic publications.
The federal Glass Ceiling Commission was founded in 1991 with its mandate to identify certain

Nowadays people refer to the glass ceiling when describing a situation where women and minorities
are held back from advancing to a certain level (Jackson, 2001).
Although women can get access to the first levels of managerial hierarchies, at some point they will
hit an invisible barrier that blocks them of any further upward movement. As one of the early writers,
who used the metaphor, Hymowitz and Schellhardt (1986) describes the glass ceiling as an obstacle in
organizational hierarchies that is situated just below the top management level (Dreher, 2003).
The definition of the concept glass ceiling has changed over time. Taken literally, the metaphor of the
glass ceiling implies the existence of an impermeable barrier that blocks the vertical mobility, below
this barrier women and minorities, are able to get hired by male dominated organizations, and can get
promoted, above this barrier they are not. (Baxter Wright, 2000). Sometimes they are considered to be
promoted to a higher position, but rarely reach that position (Maume,

My Family At Paris France
Image Analysis When I was in 6th grade my family went on a trip to Paris France. While there we
were able to explore the city and visit many well known places such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and a
royal palace called Versailles. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in 1623 as a hunting
lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions. After Louis XIII died his
son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and for the seat of the government
of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms to be used for most of the courtiers
to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the palace. While I was on the tour we came
into a room known as the Hercules Room. I walked in the room as was shocked because of a sculpture
in the middle of the room. Displayed in the middle of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was
an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped balloon animal. Directly above the dog was a massive

balloon sculpture was extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it

Use Of Narrative Voice In Atonement
Narrative voice and points of view are indispensable parts of storytelling. Explore the use of narrative
voice employed by the authors of Atonement and A Room with a View.
In the novel Atonement, the author Ian McEwan uses narrative voice to grasp the attention of the
reader whilst alternating points of view to create a diverse plot. He does this through the novel being
perceived as several narrators for us to then realise it s one voice. McEwan uses prolepsis to hint at
future events which he uses to intrude the story. In the same way, this is also an evident theme in E.M
Forster s a Room with a View. Similarly, to Atonement, A Room with a View has a thought provoking
narrative viewpoint in the sense that it is a bildungsroman about Lucy Honeychurch. Forster writes in
an omniscient tone, which means that the characters are dictated to us his narration and the character s
dialogue; this debatably affects the reader s sympathy to the other characters in the play like Cecil
Vyse. Likewise, it is evident that authorial intrusion creates a high level of authenticity to the story.
In Atonement, it is evident that the author Ian McEwan is trying to highlight the characters inner
mental state, he does this by using the literacy device of prolepsis. McEwan steps back from the
original first person narrative to describe how Briony was struggling with the temptation to flounce
from the room . He repeats this device throughout the novel, using metanarrative to build up tension.

Vygotsky s Theory On Cognitive Development Essay

Lev Semionovich Vygotsky was a Russian psychologist and constructivist learning theorist who was
known for arguing against the theories of psychologist Jean Piaget. Piaget believed that in order for
any learning to occur there had to development within the individual first, but Vygotsky argued the
contrary. He argued that in order for development to occur, the individual would first have to have
learning take place through instruction and example in a given appropriate environment. Vygotsky s
theory on cognitive development is centralized on two key ideas known as scaffolding and the zone of

Analysis Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Signed Into Law
Following his election in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed into law something radical for its
time: The Social Security Act. This act changed America s economic landscape completely, by
minimizing the long existing problem of retirees and the elderly living below the poverty line. Simply
put, Social Security is a way to guarantee that older people, namely retirees, have at least a minimal
source of income in their later years, by providing around 40 percent of the average person s yearly
income. Social Security both is and functions as a defined benefit plan, wherein benefits are decided
by the amount of quarters than a person works, and are decided by a sliding scale with caps (United
States). As directed by the sliding scale, per dollar benefits are much higher for people of lower
incomes, while overall benefit amounts are higher for those of higher incomes (Benefit). Both the
scale and the caps are adjusted yearly according to inflation. Social Security accumulates its funds into
a trust fund, and puts excess money into investments in US Treasury Securities, where interest is
accumulated and put back into the fund. Social Security s benefits are not affected by the investments.
Since 1982, the Social Security trust fund has experienced a net increase and in 2015, the asset
reserves sit at 2.8 trillion dollars (Financial). Despite this, the misinformed often point their fingers at
the trust fund and claim that it is on its last leg, and will soon run out. Every few

The Skin has numerous functions as it serves as a protective barrier, regulates body temperatures,
controls water retention, and secretes sweat and so on. The anatomy of skin can be broken down into
three different layers which include; the epidermis, dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue also known as
the hypodermis. The purpose of this paper is to explain the relationship between the layers of skin and
friction skin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flexibility of a ridge means that no two people have the same fingerprint. According to Maceo
(2011), the morphology of friction ridge skin is a mere reflection of its functions. She states that ridges
and sweat pores allow the hands to grasp things while the creases allow the skin to be flexible (Maceo,
2011).
Friction ridge skin has two properties; uniqueness and permanence. Permanence is the principle that a
person s fingerprints remain essentially unchanged throughout their lifetime. As new skin cells form,
they remain cemented in the existing friction ridge and furrow pattern (Center, National Forensic
Science Technology, 2015). Friction ridge skin is actually pretty durable however it does go through
subtle changes throughout our lifetime and the variations are caused by the flexibility. According to
Maceo (2011) even though the skin is subject to things such as injury or aging, understanding the
process is the key to explaining the loss of minutiae. As for injuries, once the skin is healed of any
damages these ridges begin to grow back. Even a cut through the finger doesn t necessarily change the
uniqueness of anyone s fingerprints. If scars are present it simply adds another unique characteristic to
the print.
In conclusion the relationship between the properties of skin and friction skin impressions is that
without these characteristics or capabilities fingerprints wouldn t exist. The

Pride In Shakespeare s Othello
As Toba Beta once said, Pride is the mother of arrogance . Pride can cause anyone to overvalue
themselves and lose sight of the truth. In Othello s case, his pride puts himself on a pedestal. When
Iago challenges this by suggesting that Desdemona cheats on him, he slowly loses his confidence and
becomes weak and insecure. Iago vaguely warns him to not become jealous of Cassio, and Othello s
fragile ego once again causes him to let his mind get the best of him. In Shakespeare s Othello,
Othello s pride leads to his downfall in order to show that too much confidence eventually leads to
emotional self destruction. In the beginning acts, Othello is depicted as a very strong and confident
man. When Iago reveals to Othello that Brabantio is angry about his relationship with Desdemona,
Othello continues to be confident and believe that he belongs with Desdemona. Othello shows his
confidence by saying that his [...] parts, my title, and my perfect soul / Shall manifest me rightly
(I.ii.36 37). This shows that Othello has the strength to continue fighting for Desdemona, although her
father does not support the relationship. Othello s pride causes him to believe that because of his legal
status and positive personality, Brabantio will accept him as Desdemona s partner. Although he is
incorrect, his theory proves that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello is strong and confident, yet allows Iago s lies to destroy him. Throughout the play, Othello s
pride and self esteem slowly diminishes because he let Iago get the best of him. Telling Othello that
Desdemona is cheating on him causes him to become insecure because he does not want to lose his
dignity. Othello s self destruction was caused by his loss of pride as the acts go on. Pride causes
people to believe they are superior, so and when something negative happens it sets them off track. It
is important to not let pride get in the way of everyday situations as it did for

The Geographic, Political, and Ethnic Impact European...
There is an ongoing debate on how the current political and economic failures in Africa can be traced
back to the advent of colonialism. There is a great deal of evidence that illustrates the impact that
colonialism and foreign intervention has had a negative effect on the development of present history
of Africa. This essay will attempt to examine the geographic, political and ethnic impact European
colonialism has played on the development of the African, and how these contributions have put
Africa on its current trajectory.
Initial European interest in Africa appeared humanitarian. Many of the imperial nations seemed
interested in acting on behalf of Africa, on issues ranging from the prohibition of slavery to
development and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several European nations took it upon themselves to assimilate the people of Africa to what the
Europeans considered as civilized. Peter Schraeder put it best in his essay, Political and Economic
Impacts of Colonialism, when he said, Britain s portrayal of its efforts as the whites man s burden and
France s pronouncement of its mission civilisatrice , were offered to justify European domination over
peoples deemed backward, ignorant, uncivilized, barbaric, savage, and godless heathen. It certainly
makes one wonder why a nation would take the role of a protectorate if it viewed the people they were
trying to protect in that light. This may also explain the why Britain established the institutions and
practices they did during colonial rule. One of the most significant institutions introduced by the
colonial powers as a method to civilize the Africans was the implementation of the nation state
system. Pre colonial African was full of nations and kingdoms, which varied in respect to their polities
and general structure. For instance, some lived in small families or clans, with authority and
leadership assigned to the elders, while others governed under kingdoms that encompassed large
areas. In pre colonial Uganda, there were several kingdoms ranging from the Buganda to the Ankole
and even the Toro. However, before the advent of present day Uganda, the area was a heterogeneous
area, with a variety of

Charles Darwin s The Hms Beagle And His Exploration...
Today was the day. Today was the day I would finally get all my answers on the theory of evolution,
from the master himself, or should I say father . As I opened the door, a mysterious old figure stood
with a tortoise by his side: it was Charles Darwin. Quickly and eagerly he went into the dining room
and eagerly cried, Guys! I am very glad to see you all! I need to tell you all everything, everything that
I had found out about! Before my family had fully sat on their seats, he shared fascinating stories
about his adventures and voyages. He began explaining his tails on the famous HMS Beagle and his
exploration of the Galapagos Islands. On his voyage on the Beagle he was instructed to chart stretches
of coastlines of South America, but as he explained that he wasn t any Picasso, his sketches ended up
poorly drawn. As we all know, Darwin has never been the type to enforce rules, and plus charting
coastlines is just the most boring job a person can do. As well as charting, he shared his strange
fascination on his observations of how the characteristics of plants and animals suits only specific
environments in South America. He explained how plants and animals in similar geographic and
climate zones have a similar resemblance. With great enthusiasm, Charles addressed my half brother
and wife saying, Tom Bradey, 3 time MVP and 4 time super bowl winner, oh and the beautiful
Vanessa Hudgens Ramolia! You must see how my observations and these fossils have similar

  • 2. Student Code Of Professional Responsibility As members of Western College of Law, and, moreover, as members of the legal and academic communities, students must hold themselves to the highest standards of ethical behavior. An individual whose actions impugn the integrity of his self or herself necessarily impugn the integrity of the institutions and communities in which they are permitted membership. Moreover, those who would practice law have a sworn duty to the People, who must trust in the honor and integrity of their legal advocates and representatives. If the People lose faith in the law, the law loses its efficacy as a tool for the public good. Therefore, as protectors of the academic and professional ethics of this honorable profession, this board has a sacred duty to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Section IV (A)(1)(2) and (3) of the Student Code of Professional Responsibility (Student Code) dictates, [a]ny conduct pertaining to academic or other University matters that evidences fraud, deceit, [or] dishonesty constitutes a violation of the Student Code. Furthermore, it states, [a]ny criminal act that raises serious doubts about the accused student s honesty, integrity or fitness to practice law constitutes a violation of the student code. Mr. O Shea committed this act purposefully and knowingly in violation of section IV (B). The Committee should expel Mr. Oshea from Western College of Law. Admission to the State Bar will require that Mr. Oshea to prove that he [i]s a person of good moral character, which may be proved by any evidence satisfactory to the court. Furthermore, the State Bar often considers an applicant s financial integrity. In Application of Taylor, the Supreme Court of Oregon denied the applicant, relying heavily on the evidence that the he had committed theft and that he had exhibited dishonest financial practices. Mr. Oshea s offense covers both of these grounds with a single act. The Committee should apply the same logic to its decision. Though this recommendation is admittedly severe, the details Mr. Oshea s actions clearly warrant expulsion. Mr. Oshea intentionally committed fraud. As a law student, he cannot reasonably claim ignorance to the illegality of his actions. Additionally, Mr. O Shea stole a sum of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Little Tracey Character Analysis The book is taking place in community in Australia. It s about a group who friends who sit waiting for the bus at the bus shelter. At the bus shelter they play a game. The game being that they make up stories and they keep it going. One day one of the characters, whose name is Anna, tells a story in honor for another character, whose named Little Tracey, about a girl. Not just any ordinary girl, but the daughter of Adolf Hitler. The name of the girl in the story who is Hitler s daughter is Heidi. In Anna s story Hitler doesn t really like the fact his daughter isn t of perfect race . His definition of perfect race would be blue eyes, blond hair, tall children who could run and jump and conquer the world, however; his daughter was small like him, and dark, and her face was marked like an iron had burnt across it, and she limped. (French 11) In Anna s story Heidi did not have a mum that she must ve died because Heidi never met her either. Throughout Anna telling the story Mark (a friend from the group) becomes more interested in her story. He continues to ask questions that he has about the specific part that Anna is telling about in her story. Questions pertaining to the relationship between Heidi and her father; Hitler. Asking Anna how can Heidi not know about the concentration camps that her father had when she was his daughter that she must know everything about him. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Gaseous Substance PVD is similar to CVD but the plasma is induced from solid material through ionisation of a gaseous substance (sputtering) or through evaporation. Processing is done in a vacuum, where the deposition material is excited with plasma to form vapour. Reactive gas is then introduced which reacts with the vapour and the resulting compound adheres to the substrate. Parts undergo multiaxial rotation to produce uniform coating thickness. This is a high temperature process, generally 400 800K, generally used when electro plating is not viable.12 14 As with CVD, there are multiple process variants including evaporation, ion plating and sputtering PVD. Commonly, it is used to repair abrasively damaged components due to ease of implementation and portability. Comparatively, this process uses low temperature, so no metallurgical substrate changes occur, minimising dimensional changes due to material distortion. Disadvantages include the line of sight nature of the process, only allowing coatings deposition on visible surfaces. This makes coating small or deep cavities difficult and therefore other deposition techniques must be used.12,16 An overview of these and additional surface processing techniques is given in Figure 4.5. Many techniques exist to affect the surface properties of materials without altering chemical composition, referred to as surface hardening. Commonly this is done by flame hardening, induction hardening and shot peening. Additionally, surfaces can be hardened by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How To Make A Baking Soda And Vinegar Bottle Rocket When we began our experiment we were attempting to figure out which ratio of baking soda to vinegar produced the most thrust (or which ratio produced the most carbon dioxide). We were planning to do this by creating a baking soda and vinegar bottle rocket and measuring the distance that the bottle rocket flew. Our hypothesis was that an equal mix of baking soda and vinegar would cause the biggest reaction. We then proceeded with our experiment. Unfortunately, we were not able to get the bottle rocket to launch. We did four tests with our unit of measurement being a Ā½ cup; two with a 1:2 ratio , two with a 1:1 ratio, two with a 2:1 ratio, and (based on our results) two with a 3:1 ratio. In our 1st test, the 1:2 ratio, we calculated that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the process of an employee leaving and then having to fill that spot on the workforce. The problem with turnover is that with each new person a corporation or small business hires, that small business or corporation is spending sometimes thousands of dollars, not to mention countless hours, be able to hire, train and get the employee used to working within the ranks of your business. This is time and money no small business or other company has to waste, but unfortunately some turnover rates are as high as 95 percent, meaning that only 5 percent of employees have been within the company for a long period. Tangible ways in which job satisfaction benefits the organization include reduction in complaints and grievances, absenteeism, turnover, and termination; as well as improved punctuality and worker morale. Job satisfaction is also linked to a more healthy work force and has been found to be a good indicator of longevity. And although only little correlation has been found between job satisfaction and productivity, Brown (1996) notes that some employers have found that satisfying or delighting employees is a prerequisite to satisfying or delighting customers, thus protecting the bottom line. No wonder Andrew Carnegie is quoted as saying: Take away my people, but leave my factories, and soon grass will grow on the factory floors. Take away my factories, but leave my people, and soon we will have a new and better factory (quoted in Brown, 1996, p. 123). CREATING JOB SATISFACTION So, how is job satisfaction created? What are the elements of a job that create job satisfaction? Organizations can help to create job satisfaction by putting systems in place that will ensure that workers are challenged and then rewarded for being successful. Organizations that aspire to creating a work environment that enhances job satisfaction need to incorporate the following: * Flexible work arrangements, possibly including telecommuting * Training and other ... • 8. The Application of Erik Erikson s Theories Essay Erik Erikson was a researcher of the Psychodynamic perspective who lived through the years 1902 to 1994. He developed a theory that dealt with the stages of human development and was referred to as a Neo Freudian. A Neo Freudian are those who have revised Sigmund Freud s theory (Massey, 1986). His theory argued that both society and culture challenge and shape us (Feldman, 2011). Erik Erikson s theory of psychological development does not specify specific ages, so the age categories can only be guessed upon. It is my personal thought that this was a smart move due to different age milestones for different cultures. If the individual s needs are not met in this stage the individual will most likely develop a mistrust that will hamper relationship in the future. The relationship between parent and caregiver is vital. It is during the first months of life that the baby comes to trust or not, to have faith or not. Whether trust and faith are developed has direct implications for identity formation (Goodwin, 1998) The goal of this stage is to gain Hope . Our subject Belinda was born prematurely on May 23, 1990. During the early part of life the subject was very sickly as an infant. This did not seem to effect Belinda s formation of Trust. According to the subject s mother, Patricia Hickman, Belinda was a very trusting and happy baby, besides being colic. (P. Hickman, personal communication, May 29, 2011). Early Childhood: Autonomy v. Shame. Early Childhood is roughly from 18 months to 3 years. During early childhood, the second stage of Erikson s theory manifests; this stage is called Autonomy v. Shame. In this stage, the psycho social theme of autonomy shame and doubt is manifested during toddlerhood and leads to self will or will power. We hypothesize the nitrate to have significant implication on the post weight loss RMR and possibly cause relapsing of the weight loss. STUDY DESIGN AND OUTCOMES A 6 month randomized three way crossover trial consisting of three groups: 20 healthy, 20 obese, and 20 mixed participants (placebo group for nitrate supplementation)is proposed. All groups will be screened for thyroid function, hepatitis A B and HIV).All participants will be kept on a low nitrate weight maintenance diet formula till the weight remains constant for 2 weeks (weight change 10 g/d). RMR is measured using indirect calorimetry. They are then fed a hypocaloric diet(800 kcal/d) until a 10% weight loss is achieved(estimated time 12 weeks).RMR and weight is measured again. The formula diet is reinstated and 0.1mmol/kg/d inorganic nitrate for a period of 3 weeks is given along with it to the two groups excluding the placebo group. RMR, plasma and salivary nitrite levels and weight changes are recorded. SIGNIFICANCE The only study on effect of nitrates on RMR was on healthy humans and no study has been done to study their effect on weight maintenance. Obesity is a serious condition and long term maintenance of target weight by obese individuals is not very successful(Wing Phelan, 2005). Prior to 1870, the US Southern Plains region is a vibrant prairie world. The satirical plays, A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen, and Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, examine the problems with certain beliefs held by the people, both men and women, of the Victorian age. Furthermore, the people in general didn t not just hold certain morals, but the different classes in the Victorian society also held their own beliefs on moral code. According to SITA s Airline IT Trends Survey ļ¬ndings (SITA, 2009), it forecasts that the use of agent service for check in will be dropped almost 30% and use of self service check in kiosks will be increased almost 8% by 2012. It shows that there is a trend that passengers are more likely to use the SSTs to serve them by their own and the use of agent services will be decreased. So the airline companies can hire fewer crews for providing the agent services and it would then reduce the cost of training their employees for performing the agent services. According to Forrester Research (Jones, 2004), self service check in costs an airline 16 cents per passenger as opposed to $3.68 per passenger by means of an airline agent. Thus, it means that a company which has employed SSTs may lower their cost as the cost of employing SSTs is much lower than the rising labor cost. Another benefit of employing SSTs to service retailers is that it may gain a competitive advantage over competitors. Canadians pride themselves on being culturally diverse and accepting, and on having relatively progressive social policies such as that of universal healthcare. However, there are many ways in which the current and historical policies have expressed explicit racism that have left an already marginalized population with the crumbs of society. A prime example of this can be demonstrated in the mass overrepresentation of Aboriginal youth in care. By the year 2010, there were around twenty seven thousand Indigenous children in the Canadian child welfare system who were living in some sort of out of home care (Chappell, 2014). Although they represented only seven percent of the children in Canada, they made up 48 percent of all children in foster care. (Yukselir Annett, 2016). This phenomenon is not a recent trend, as it has been occurring since the very creation of modern child welfare in Canada as it is known, and it has its roots deep in Canadian history. This paper will demonstrate a timeline of the events which have lead to this phenomenon in Canada, specifically focusing on the province of Ontario. This method also determines the 260/280 ratio for plasmid 1 which was 1.390 and for plasmid 2 which was 1.342. Furthermore, the plasmids are both contaminated with proteins. The SYBR Green fluorescent method is more accurate than the UV absorbance method since it is more specific for double stranded DNA molecules. Therefore, the SYBR Green assay results are lower than those obtained in the UV absorbance and are estimated to be 163 Āµg/mL and 202 Āµg/mL, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Glass Ceiling In The Workplace Over the past few years, the percentage of women in lower managerial positions has increased tremendously while the number of women who reach the top is still just a small proportion. They are held back by an invisible barrier that is named the glass ceiling (Dreher, 2003). The glass ceiling is a concept that is repeatedly used in studies, analyzing inequalities between men and women in the workplace (Baxter Wright, 2000). The phenomenon glass ceiling has been used universally in the media as well as in official government reports (US Department of Labor, 1991; A fact finding report of the Federal glass ceiling commission, 1995) and academic publications. The federal Glass Ceiling Commission was founded in 1991 with its mandate to identify certain barriers that have blocked the promotion of minorities and women. Nowadays people refer to the glass ceiling when describing a situation where women and minorities are held back from advancing to a certain level (Jackson, 2001). Although women can get access to the first levels of managerial hierarchies, at some point they will hit an invisible barrier that blocks them of any further upward movement. As one of the early writers, who used the metaphor, Hymowitz and Schellhardt (1986) describes the glass ceiling as an obstacle in organizational hierarchies that is situated just below the top management level (Dreher, 2003). The definition of the concept glass ceiling has changed over time. Taken literally, the metaphor of the glass ceiling implies the existence of an impermeable barrier that blocks the vertical mobility, below this barrier women and minorities, are able to get hired by male dominated organizations, and can get promoted, above this barrier they are not. (Baxter Wright, 2000). Sometimes they are considered to be promoted to a higher position, but rarely reach that position (Maume, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. My Family At Paris France Image Analysis When I was in 6th grade my family went on a trip to Paris France. While there we were able to explore the city and visit many well known places such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and a royal palace called Versailles. The Versailles was originally built by a Louis XIII in 1623 as a hunting lodge. In the years to come the building went through a few big expansions. After Louis XIII died his son Louis XIV obtained Versailles and used it as his main residence and for the seat of the government of the Kingdom of France. Also, the Versailles had enough rooms to be used for most of the courtiers to stay there. My family and I were able to take a tour of the palace. While I was on the tour we came into a room known as the Hercules Room. I walked in the room as was shocked because of a sculpture in the middle of the room. Displayed in the middle of this room in an immaculate ancient palace was an enormous metal sculpture of a dog shaped balloon animal. Directly above the dog was a massive painting covering the ceiling named Apotheosis of Hercules which was the reason the room itself was named Hercules Room. The reason I was surprised when I walked into the room was because the dog balloon sculpture was extremely different than the ceiling above it and everything surrounding it making it seem out of place. The Balloon Dog sculpture was created by a man named Jeff Koons in 1994. The dog is an optimistic piece, it s similar to a balloon a clown would make for a child at a ... • 38. Use Of Narrative Voice In Atonement Narrative voice and points of view are indispensable parts of storytelling. Explore the use of narrative voice employed by the authors of Atonement and A Room with a View. In the novel Atonement, the author Ian McEwan uses narrative voice to grasp the attention of the reader whilst alternating points of view to create a diverse plot. He does this through the novel being perceived as several narrators for us to then realise it s one voice. McEwan uses prolepsis to hint at future events which he uses to intrude the story. In the same way, this is also an evident theme in E.M Forster s a Room with a View. Similarly, to Atonement, A Room with a View has a thought provoking narrative viewpoint in the sense that it is a bildungsroman about Lucy Honeychurch. Forster writes in an omniscient tone, which means that the characters are dictated to us his narration and the character s dialogue; this debatably affects the reader s sympathy to the other characters in the play like Cecil Vyse. Likewise, it is evident that authorial intrusion creates a high level of authenticity to the story. In Atonement, it is evident that the author Ian McEwan is trying to highlight the characters inner mental state, he does this by using the literacy device of prolepsis. McEwan steps back from the original first person narrative to describe how Briony was struggling with the temptation to flounce from the room . He repeats this device throughout the novel, using metanarrative to build up tension. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Piaget believed that in order for any learning to occur there had to development within the individual first, but Vygotsky argued the contrary. He argued that in order for development to occur, the individual would first have to have learning take place through instruction and example in a given appropriate environment. Vygotsky s theory on cognitive development is centralized on two key ideas known as scaffolding and the zone of proximal development which will be explored in this essay and how they contribute to the classroom. • 41. Analysis Of Franklin Delano Roosevelt Signed Into Law Following his election in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed into law something radical for its time: The Social Security Act. This act changed America s economic landscape completely, by minimizing the long existing problem of retirees and the elderly living below the poverty line. Simply put, Social Security is a way to guarantee that older people, namely retirees, have at least a minimal source of income in their later years, by providing around 40 percent of the average person s yearly income. Social Security both is and functions as a defined benefit plan, wherein benefits are decided by the amount of quarters than a person works, and are decided by a sliding scale with caps (United States). As directed by the sliding scale, per dollar benefits are much higher for people of lower incomes, while overall benefit amounts are higher for those of higher incomes (Benefit). Both the scale and the caps are adjusted yearly according to inflation. Social Security accumulates its funds into a trust fund, and puts excess money into investments in US Treasury Securities, where interest is accumulated and put back into the fund. Social Security s benefits are not affected by the investments. Since 1982, the Social Security trust fund has experienced a net increase and in 2015, the asset reserves sit at 2.8 trillion dollars (Financial). In Othello s case, his pride puts himself on a pedestal. When Iago challenges this by suggesting that Desdemona cheats on him, he slowly loses his confidence and becomes weak and insecure. Iago vaguely warns him to not become jealous of Cassio, and Othello s fragile ego once again causes him to let his mind get the best of him. In Shakespeare s Othello, Othello s pride leads to his downfall in order to show that too much confidence eventually leads to emotional self destruction. There is a great deal of evidence that illustrates the impact that colonialism and foreign intervention has had a negative effect on the development of present history of Africa. This essay will attempt to examine the geographic, political and ethnic impact European colonialism has played on the development of the African, and how these contributions have put Africa on its current trajectory. Several European nations took it upon themselves to assimilate the people of Africa to what the Europeans considered as civilized. Peter Schraeder put it best in his essay, Political and Economic Impacts of Colonialism, when he said, Britain s portrayal of its efforts as the whites man s burden and France s pronouncement of its mission civilisatrice , were offered to justify European domination over peoples deemed backward, ignorant, uncivilized, barbaric, savage, and godless heathen. It certainly makes one wonder why a nation would take the role of a protectorate if it viewed the people they were trying to protect in that light. This may also explain the why Britain established the institutions and practices they did during colonial rule. One of the most significant institutions introduced by the colonial powers as a method to civilize the Africans was the implementation of the nation state system. Pre colonial African was full of nations and kingdoms, which varied in respect to their polities and general structure. For instance, some lived in small families or clans, with authority and leadership assigned to the elders, while others governed under kingdoms that encompassed large areas.
