Weekly Shits Summary
After reading the article The Weekly Shits I would that I totally agree with what the writer. Not only
does he standing for all injustice that is often too hard for most people to agree and have a truly
conversation about history and problems that are still a current he points out all of the bias with two
main focuses on racism and sexism. Most People with privileges often does see it or are to blind to the
fact. When a person who has a good heart know they have most advantage and privileges they often
give back if they not society blind. As I was reading this article it made think about how we still do
live in where sexism and racism significantly greatly approached. Not only is this about prejudging a

Age Of Exploration During The Commercial Revolution
Age of Exploration (1350 1550) (Call to Freedom CTF)
The Commercial Revolution changed Europe by changing the way people did business in the 1200s.
On page 33 in CTF, the second paragraph states During the Commercial Revolution, however,
merchants and craftspeople became more aggressive about making a profit. Many Landlords wanted
farmers to grow crops to be sold on their rented land. Cities grew rich from specific things such as
dying cloth in Florence and glassmaking in Venice. They also brought rare goods from far away
making many cities have rich trading centers. Not everybody could afford a business because people
were too obsessed with making money. Instead, they created joint stock companies just in case their
business didn t work out as planned. People opened banks to earn capital from interest such as the
Medici family. Europe reached a high point where many people were wealthy and gained more power
changing rising Europe s economy and power causing many monopolies. There was also great growth
in the merchant s class and towns/urban centers (Page 33, CTF). The Commercial Revolution was
greatly based off trade (CTF, PG. 35, Paragraph 3 6) and many things were traveled via the Silk Road.
When trading with other places, people became interested in where these things were from so the
explored and looked for these places. Another reason for people exploring was that they wanted to
spread Christianity.
The Renaissance changed Europe by giving motivation to learn

cases are 224,210, they represent 13% of all cancer diagnosis (ACS, 2014). Lung cancer affects old
people and always they diagnosed in the last five years of their life.
Around 80% of people who live with lung cancer their ages more than 60 years (USNIH, 2011).
In Kentucky, on 2011 was the highest age adjusted incidence rate of lung cancer among both genders

In 1984, there was a peak in the lung cancer incidence among men, after that the lung cancer
incidence among men was decreasing. In 1998, the lung cancer incidence reaches its peak but now it
begins to decline (USNIH, 2011).
The lung cancer survival rate is less than other cancers, it s estimated to be 17.8% in comparison to
65.4% for colon cancer, 90.5% for breast cancer and 99.6% for prostate cancer (USNIH, 2011). The
lung cancer staging is a determinant of the patient s five year survival rate, for patients who have
localized lung cancer the survival rate is 54%. Just 15% of lung cancer patients is diagnosed during
early stages of the disease, but most of the people who diagnosed with lung cancer die within the first
year of diagnosis (USNIH, 2011).
Causes of lung cancer the most common cause of lung cancer is smoking, 90% of lung cancer cases
among men are due to smoking and 80% of lung cancer among women are due to smoking. Smoker
men are 23 times more likely to get lung cancer, and smoker women are 13 times more likely to have
lung cancer in comparison to nonsmokers (USDHS, 2004). Annually, between 2005 and 2010 lung
cancer cases due to smoking are about 130,659, 56.8% of these cases were men, and 43.2% were
women (USDHS, 2014). Also, second hand smokers are at higher risk of developing lung cancer, their
chance to develop lung cancer is 20 30% in comparison to people who do not have an exposure to the
second hand smoke (USDHS, 2006). In 2014, the estimated

Primary Diagnosis
Lyme Disease due to being infected with the spirochete Borrelia burgdorfer. Resulted from most likely
being bitten by a tick while camping in the mountains of upstate New York; a common place for ticks
to live.
Pathophysiology
Lyme disease is a zoonotic, vector borne disease transmitted by the Ixodes tick. Ticks are blood
sucking arthropods that are found particularly in woods, fields, parks, and gardens. They attach to the
human body and embed themselves in the skin to suck blood from the source of its host; most
commonly deer and humans. They are found typically in the Northeastern region of the United States,
and Northern Hemisphere world wide in the summer season. Once

The Effect Of Processing Technique And Core Thickness On...
Effect of processing technique and core thickness on fracture resistance of Lithium disilicate copings
having two different thicknesses
Keywords: IPS e.max;Press; CAD / CAM; core thickness; fracture strength.
Introduction
High strength All ceramic restorations, with different composition, structure, and processing methods,
have been introduced as an alternative to metal ceramic restorations in many applications (1). Due to
their translucency and strength, IPS e.max ceramics have become increasingly popular as dental
restorative materials (2) .They can be used as a substructure (core) to support the more fragile
veneering ceramics in dental crowns (3 5). However few data in literature were about different coping
thicknesses of IPS e.max to determine the optimum thickness which allows more conservative
preparation and gives space for the veneering material.
Increasing the fracture strength of all ceramic restorations increase their durability during function and
decrease complications such as secondary caries and periodontal diseases. There has been growing
interest in ceramic restorations due to their optimal esthetics and biocompatibility (6). However, their
use is associated with some shortcomings. Chipping of the veneering porcelain is the most frequently
encountered complication of all ceramic restorations (7). The second most common clinical failure
may be gross fracture of restoration (8). Several

Of Mice And Men Book Report Essay
The fiction book that I chose for my summer reading was Of Mice and Men . When I was given the
list of fiction books, I went on good reads dot com and looked up all the books on the fiction list. Of
Mice and Men really caught my eye because it was a book about two friends going through tough
times, which always has a deeper meaning of friendship. Once I chose Of Mice and Men I picked it up
at my local library. The book was exceptionally simple to read and my understanding of every page
was straightforward. It only took me a week to read. Prior to reading the book I knew it would be
about two migrant workers that were struggling with making ends meet in hard times
(Goodread.com). The only preconceived notion I thought was going to happen was when Lennie and
George were chased out of a town named Weed because of Lennie s actions, when ... Show more

The story takes place in rural California with the two main characters Lennie and George (Steinbeck).
George is a tiny, lean and sharp featured man who takes care of his friend Lennie (Steinbeck). Lennie
is enormous and awkward with a mental disability that stirs the duo in all sorts of trouble (Steinbeck).
To keep things simple this book is about two friends that need each other to survive in a time where no
one cares about anybody. They flee a town because of Lennie s actions and end up finding work on a
ranch, where they are introduced to many new characters (Steinbeck). Time gets suspenseful at the
ranch and in the end Lennie s gets into more trouble and ultimately dies in the end (Steinbeck). My
favorite character in Of Mice and Men was George because he is a genuine character who is smart and
takes care of Lennie with his mental disability. The beginning, middle and end of the book were very
different. In the beginning, it started of subtle and showed off the heartwarming relationship of George
and Lennie. In the middle it

Twin Personality Traits
Personality is a combination of people s genetics, forces in their environments, and the life choices
they make. A person s personality is their characteristic thoughts, emotional responses, and behaviors.
While personality traits are patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that is relatively consistent over
time and across situations. When you get to know some you start to predict how they are going to
react to certain situations. These predications are dispositions (Gazzaniga, Heatherton, Halpern).
There is evidence that personality comes from biological factors, such as genes, brain structure, and
neurochemistry) but environmental factors determine if they prevail. James Loehlin did a study on
twin personalities. He determined that identical twins personalities are more similar than fraternal
twins because they share similar genes. Loehlin also found that parenting style has little to do with the
personality of twins. He discovered this by observing twins who grew up in separate families
(Gazzaniga, Heatherton, Halpern). Temperaments are biologically based tendencies to feel or act in
certain ways. There are three basic characteristics can be considered temperaments, ... Show more

It occurs because people process information about themselves more deeply, thoroughly, and
automatically. This information is becomes part of the person s self schema. Self schemas helps
quickly perceive, organize, interpret, and use information about the self. Our behaviors and
personalities are important to our self schemas. For example, being a good athlete or a good students
may be a major component of your self schema, where as having few cavities does not. When people
process information about themselves, activity happens in the frontal lobes. Damage to the frontal
lobes tends to alter how they see themselves (Gazzaniga, Heatherton,

Child Poverty
In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established.
When looking at the statistics of child poverty from the past, it is clear that there was an increasing
number of families and children living in poverty. This trend dates back to the year 2000 when 11.6
million people were living in poverty. In 2007, the number of individuals suffering from poverty rose
to 13.4 million, (Arrighi Maume, 2007). This is due to the massive economic fallout, also known as
the Great Recession. The United States lost over 7.5 million jobs and the unemployment rate doubled,
which directly impacted parents and their children, (Grusky etc., 2011). This crisis resulted in leaving
many Americans financially insecure. Even though many of the financially stable individuals suffered
a great loss, they were able to utilize their resources to navigate through the calamity and recover
whereas those who were poor faced an economic issue with greater impact. They were faced with
foreclosures, bankruptcies and mortgage felonies. Most importantly, the lives of the young children
were negatively impacted as well. The four areas that the children were affected by from the Great
Recession were: health, hunger, housing, abuse and neglect, (Wiltz 2015). In several households, there
was at least one member that suffered from malnourishment because of the inadequate food supply for
the family. On the other hand, numerous children were left to be homeless because of

The True Disillusionment Of The American Dream
As a child, did you ever dream about something huge, like becoming a movie star or owning your own
mansion? Did this dream come true? For many people living in the 1930 s, as well as in Of Mice and
Men by John Steinbeck, their dream did not come true. Many people in this time period believed that
they could prosper and become successful; they believed in the American Dream. Steinbeck shows the
true disillusionment of the American Dream through his characters in his novel. Steinbeck uses Curley
s wife to show the failure of a Hollywood version of the American Dream. Curley s wife was a small
town girl who truly believed she could make it big in Hollywood. She always wore fancy clothes, like
a red cotton dress and red mules... (Steinbeck 31) and heavy eye make up. She never looked like she
belonged on the ranch. However, that was all she was: the wife of a rancher. Later on in the novel, the
reader gets a clip of her dream. She tells Crooks, Candy, and Lennie, I tell ya I could of went with the
shows. Not jus one, neither. An a guy tol me he could put me in pitchers... (Steinbeck 78). This gives
the reader a feel of her disappointment that she is just a wife of a rancher, instead of a famous movie
star. Later on, Curley s wife is talking with Lennie in the barn, and she opens up to him and tells him
more about her failed dream. There was two instances where she could have become famous. She
describes the first instance to Lennie, Well, a show come through, an I

Alysun s Marriage Analysis
What is the key to a happy and successful marriage? What is the thing women desire most? According
to Geoffrey Chaucer s character, Alysun also known as the Wife of Bath, without a woman having
complete control over her marriage, the marriage will be unhappy. Being that the Wife has been
married a total of five times, she considers herself an expert on marriage. Her first four husbands were
all older than her, though she used her sexual abilities along with her sharp mind to manipulate them.
Giving them sex anytime they want in exchange for power in their marriages. In her fifth and final
marriage, she marries someone older than her, Jankyn. About this time, she has lost some of her

This upset Jankyn so badly that he pleaded that if she were to leave, he could give her anything she
wanted. Sovereignty is what she asked for, then she continued to blackmail him, giving him an
ultimatum. Power for freedom. She told him that if he were not to give her the power and control in
their marriage then she would tell the police he abused her. Once Alysun received what she asked for
she became a better and more faithful wife to Jankyn, until he died. The wife of Bath believes and
reiterates in her story that the key to a happy marriage is giving a woman complete control and power
over their marriage. In her tale, Alyson tells the pardoner about a young knight. The knight rapes a
young maiden. Alyson at the time using the knight as an example of how misguided and lost the
knight is without guidance of a woman goes on to tell how the knight was saved by a woman. During
the trial for his rapping, the community wanted to have him beheaded until a woman offered to have
him find what it is women truly desire most. Being that he gets the question right, he will keep his
freedom. The knight was clueless until it was he came upon an ole

The Importance Of Being A Self Directed By Jeff Cobb
There are many aspects to being a self directed, intrinsically motivated, and active learner. From our
reading assignments it has become plain that the most important aspect is taking initiative. This means
being someone who doesn t have to be told to learn this or that, but will take the first steps down the
road of learning. Taking the initiative to learn is core to every other aspect, whether we talk about the
15 Ways of the Successful Self Directed Learner by Jeff Cobb, or come up with our own definitions
and reflections on being an active learner.
Instead of going through the list from our reading assignments, I m going to wing this a bit, and touch
upon the more important aspects which I consider essential to being an active learner. Apart from
being someone who takes initiative with learning, the next most important aspect would be someone
who is independent, as a truly successful active learner is someone who can ask the questions and find
the answers on their own. I think being curious is equally important, since from this curiosity will
spring the desire to learn, as the curious person asks questions and finds answers to challenges and
problems. As Jeff Cobb says it, The proverbial bottom line: the successful self directed learner simply
likes to learn. (Cobb, 2013)
All of these things discuss the qualities of the successful active learner, but there are other aspects that
are equally important, since without the right behaviors a person will never take the

Similarities Between The Heart And The Human Body
The hidden similarities to the human body
The heart and the brain are both uniquely fascinating organs in the human body. People probably
believe the heart and the brain are very different from each other. They probably think the brain is
what we use to think, make decisions, do well on English papers, and how we know how to do our
jobs. They probably think the heart is how we pump blood through the body, what the doctor listens to
during patient checkups, or that we have had a meal that just didn t agree with us. These do seem like
quite different organs; however, these organs are actually quite similar in certain ways. Even though
the heart and brain are two different organs, they have common characteristics that are essential for
the body to operate properly.
First, the heart and brain are similar in they both function using an electrical system. The brain has
neurons, which send electrical impulses throughout the body to notify the body of certain senses and
tasks (Martini et al. 410). For example, when someone touches something hot such as a clothing iron,
then their immediate reaction is to remove their hand. If an object gets near the eye, then people blink
to protect the eye. These reactions are all because the brain has received an electrical impulse that
triggers a message of what to do like move the hand and blink the eye. The heart also has an electrical
system. The heart has a conductive pathway that consists of electrical impulses that tell the heart when

How Did The Meiji Restoration A Change In Japanese Society
The Meiji Restoration, refers to the events that led to the restoration of power to Emperor Meiji
Tenno. The previous political and military leader of Japan had been the Tokugawa shogunate, but due
to the intrusion of the western powers, particularly the Americans, under the command of Commodore
Perry, the Shogun was forced to return power to the Emperor. This restoration of power led to many
changes in Japanese society such as the social structure, the education system and the Japanese
economy that has contributed to Japan becoming a modern world power.
One of the biggest changes that happened in the Japanese society because of the Meiji Restoration was
the change in social structure. Instead of being dictated their roles in life by the Tokugawa Shogunate,
millions of people were free to choose their occupation and move without restrictions (AFA, 2014).
However not all previous social roles were allowed to continue on under Emperor Meiji. The Samurai
social class was made obsolete (ABC Splash, 2016). Instead a new army, modelled on the superior
strength of the American army was formed. By making people free to choose their ... Show more

Survey Questions On Starbucks Corporation
Name: Shanice Forbes and Sharifa Small
Fair Trade: Starbucks Corporation
Methods
Survey Questions
The survey questions mostly consisted of multiple choice questions, two open ended questions,
allowing written responses, and one qualitative response question. These questions were chosen to
establish consumers differences and comparative perspective of Starbuck s competitors, their daily
usage of the social media platforms, the coffee shops visited frequently, and their opinions on
consumers who frequent Starbucks. The survey contains one matrix/rating scale question ( Appendix
I, Question 5) based on how important qualities are when choosing a coffee shop. Lastly, there were
two demographic questions. The demographic questions are for a general understanding on consumers
behavior based on age group and gender. For an overview of the survey, see appendix I.
Survey Development The purpose of the survey entitled Starbucks Corporation Survey was to
determine if the recent Starbucks Public Relations campaigns have been effective at reaching
consumers (See appendix I, Question 6 for complete list of campaigns options), to learn more about
consumers buying behaviors towards Starbucks compared to it competitors, and the characteristics of
consumers loyalty. The survey was created through Survey Monkey by the researchers who conducted
the study. Survey Monkey provided their answer style as a guideline for the research. An example of
this would be the matrix/rating scale

Propagand Like A Good Neighbor
Like A Good Neighbor Our society has used different forms of advertisements, commercials, and
propaganda since even before the 20th century. Propaganda is described to be information that is
usually misleading or uninformed, that tends to be used to promote political views or to persuade a
consumer into buying a sellers product. According to Ann McClintock, propaganda is the systematic
effort to influence peoples opinions, to win them over to a certain view or side. Overtime with the
advancements of technology, forms of propaganda and advertisements have changed, but the end
result has always been the same, as well as the goal to get the consumer to buy the goods. There are
many propaganda techniques that advertisers use. Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer,
Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon are the seven propaganda techniques.
Companies use these techniques to persuade people to buy their products and to trust the company.
For example, in the commercial from the insurance company State Farm, the commercial starts off
with the husband on the phone with Jake, who is a representative from State Farm, and the husbands
wife walking in at three in the morning astounded and concerned as to why he would ever be talking
to anyone on the phone that late at night. The clock on the wall is very visible behind the wife, making
sure the audience knows that it is three in the morning. The viewer can then see as the wife takes the

Essay about Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern...
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead, a humorous piece of self reflexive theater that draws upon Shakespeare s
Hamlet as the source of the story. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in
Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play is
academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but also
criticizes it. The aspect of self reflexive theater is used to comment on theater itself but also as a
presentation of ideas and analysis that had previously had no place on the plot centric set up of stage
and audience. The essay Rosencrantz and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

both legal and natural practice. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary manner?
GUIL. I can t imagine!
Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that is
required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t to insult
the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we take in order to
participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were academic journals and
essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience. The Player exemplifies my
point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that Stoppard is trying to occupy with the
play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the happenings onstage (textual evidence? How

“Advertising
Advertising A judicious mixture of flattery and threats. Stephen Leacock
Considering advertisements as a type of connection used by marketers to make their product known
by the public, it is admitted that advertising corporations prey anyone and every age group without
any regard to the possible negative effects of their work as long as it pays off. However, when these
ads and advertisements target children, they become overwhelming and harmful not only for them and

Schlosser is not judging the actions of these companies; however, he relies on the usage of logos to
prove his point and persuade his audience without actually providing his opinion. The terrifying truth
about the negative impact of these ads on children, who are supposed to be attracted by interesting
activities that collaborate to their growth and development made the author defending them since it is
alarming to realize that, the typical American child now spends about twenty one hours a week
watching television roughly one and a half months of TV every year (Schlosser 357). Schlosser gives
more details about the bitter reality of the kids of this century who are unfortunately preyed by many
advertising corporations and ads companies. In addition to logos, the author appeals to pathos to evoke
his audience s emotional feeling as all the facts are about children which works well with his purpose.
To convince the audience of how important it is not involving children in marketing, the author uses a
vivid description of many situations where kids show the uncooperative effects of these lucrative
corporations on them. It is worth to note that, his description makes it easy for the reader to visualize
the scenes where children are showing the hidden information absorbed before whether from their
casual sitting in front of a TV, reading them online, or just by applying the rules of

Media And Its Impact On Society
As the world becomes a global village due to technology our society changes with it. We become
more and more civilized that our way of life must change to match the changes in our world. One of
the most common changes that have hit our today s society is media. Media has penetrated through all
barriers including our war fronts and areas where man never thought to have penetrated. As media
develops through the years and technology expands more media outlets open and so the society has
and continues to move away from the mainstream media (CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, ABC, etc.) to
local media and different websites to get their news. The trust society had in Television and the
mainstream media to provide true and uncontaminated reports has faded and therefore society is
moving away from these to where they believe they can get news first hand. In this paper, I will
attempt to explain why in today s media many people don t just rely on the major networks but go
online for news (Local, National, and Global). Could this be splintering our views and causing more
anger? Should it be regulated? I will also attempt to express my opinion on what the business of news
is becoming in the next ten years.
Over the years Newspapers, journals, magazines and Television had been the main source of source of
news for out American society. In recent years due to the advent of modern technology and the
internet journalism has improved and most of the media outlet expanded the way they cover

Pros And Cons Of Buying A Horse
Buying a horse is a very exciting prospect and for many a lifelong dream. Riding through the
countryside with just your horse for company or the thrill of winning your first show is something that
can t be beaten.
However, before you dive into the world of horse ownership, it is important to consider the following
issues:
Time Budget Monthly costs Ongoing long term care Ambition
1. Time Considerations
Horses need looking after every day and when there is six foot of snow on the ground or the gale force
winds outside, your horse will still need caring for. Horses require a complete lifestyle change as they
will need visiting twice a day, whatever the weather. They prefer routine so at the weekends there will
be no more lie ins as you will have to get up as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of these have to be done on a weekday, so you will need to consider who will be around to get
your horse in, supervise them during the appointment and then turn them back out again. This could
mean taking days off work or paying someone to be there when you cannot.
2. Budget and Monthly Costs
When buying a horse, it is important to set yourself a budget and stick to it. Decide what you can
afford and don t be tempted to let your heart rule your head. There is no such thing as the perfect
horse, so decide what qualities you want in your horse and realise that good horses do not come cheap.
Always view a wide variety of horses for sale before you settle on your chosen horse as it is easy to
fall for the first one you see, instead of choosing the most suitable.
The monthly costs of keeping a horse can run into hundreds of pounds and you need to factor in that
you will need to pay for livery, bedding, feed, worming, foot trims, dental check ups, vaccinations,
vets fees and any competitions or lessons that you might have each month.
3. Long Term

Life And Dedication Of An Organization
As I peered through the window of opportunity, which I thought would be an easy adventure, time and
dedication surely proved me mistaken. One average senior high day, I walk into the Human Services
classroom and sit down at my desk. The class writes the daily five minute prompt about the service we
are hoping to be involved in for FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) called,
STAR (Student Taking Action with Recognition) events. After the prompt, the class sets up the desks
to have our monthly FCCLA meeting. I, being the President, began the meeting with any house
keepings that needs to be discussed. Next, we progress the discussion to our chapter s current funds
and finally begin to go into detail about STAR events. In an organized manner, we list the events and
information pertaining to which people are planning on working in each group.
I decide to work with Angela, who happens to be our chapter s Vice President, and Molly, the
secretary, to focus our attention to the Focus on Children category. With much thought, we decide on
the idea of researching the sugar content in beverages and directing the information toward late
elementary audiences. We create a few presentations and visuals to provide the students an accurate
idea of the sugar content within their drinks. While constructing this project, we also call at least five
of the elementary schools in the area. One of the schools responds and we are able to coordinate a few
dates to present to

Ruger Scout Rifle Course Analysis
The assigned reading material for this week of the course is titled Ruger Scout Rifle , and is authored
by Chick Blood. It first appeared in print in the December 2015 issue of American Gunsmith
magazine. The article begins with a tip of the hat nod to John Dean Jeff Cooper (a Marine well
regarded for firearms methods, and proficiency). He is the forefather of the scout rifle from the sights,
stock, magazine, and a threaded barrel. The Ruger Scout rifle was developed from their Model 77
platform. This weapon is known for it s firing pin assembly being restricted. Once removed, it must
stay that way until reassembly. On these rifles, they are known to have an angled forward mounting
screw (along with a mounting lug). The reason for the

A M Records Vs. Napster
A M Records v. Napster is a landmark case in which the application of intellectual property laws has
forever impacted contemporary culture with regards to digital works. The legal issues and applicable
laws presented in the instant case resulted in a holding, which set forth a precedent that has influence
the mode and means of digital works distribution. The outcome of Napster affects both businesses and
individuals. Napster, a free online file sharing network, allowed peers to share digital files directly
with each other by way of connections through its software and system. The no cost peer to peer
sharing gained popularity, particularly with trendy music. A M Records took notice of the free digital
music downloads and brought suit against Napster for direct, contributory, and vicarious copyright
infringements (Washington University School of Law, 2013). First, it is important to discuss the direct,
contributory and vicarious infringement claims against Napster. Direct copyright infringement claims
are based on a breach of a copyright owners exclusive rights to the copyrighted work(s). A M Records,
Inc. v. Napster, Inc., 239 F.3d 1004, 1013 (9th Cir. 2001). Napster was found liable for this because
the users used its platform to upload and download copyrighted music, thus infringing on two
exclusive rights: reproduction and distribution. Id at 1014. Contributory copyright infringement claims

Laser Surgery Research Paper
A Few Things To Know About Having Laser Surgery On Your Cataracts
If you have cataracts, you may be able to put up with cloudy vision for a few years, but eventually,
you ll probably need surgery to remove the cataracts and improve your vision. That s because
cataracts continue to grow and your vision gets progressively worse over the years. At some point,
your vision may become so impaired you have difficulty driving at night, or you may increase your
risk of falling. Cataract surgery is very common and it is a relatively safe procedure. It is even being
done with lasers now, which lowers the risks further. Here are a few things to know about having your
cataracts removed with a laser.
No Incisions By Hand
While your eye doctor is probably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laser surgery is no different. Of course, if you want to have laser surgery, you need to make sure the
doctor you choose has necessary laser device, computer, and software system in the office, because
many doctors still do the procedure by hand. If you have cataracts in both eyes, you ll probably only
have one eye done at a time since your vision may be blurry for a few days. Your eyes will be dilated
and numbed with medication before the doctor begins, and you ll probably go home with an eye patch.
During the surgery, your doctor may be able to insert a new lens that corrects any vision problems you
have such as being farsighted or nearsighted. Then, once you ve healed from your surgery, the
cloudiness will be gone and your vision might be improved enough to allow you to go without glasses.
Deciding on the right time to have the laser surgery depends on different variables. If your cataracts
grow slowly, you may be able to put off the surgery for a long time. However, it isn t worth
postponing the procedure if your vision is impaired to the point where it affects your quality of

It s Not A Big Deal
People ask, How do you do that? Even though I know exactly what they mean, I say, How do I do
what? I do this because I like pretending it s not a big deal, which is totally not true. Oh, wait a
second, you are possibly lost, so let me explain. I live exactly 6029 miles away from where I call
home. It s been more than a year since I last saw my family. People think I handle my homesickness
pretty good; otherwise, I would have gone back by now. However, I wouldn t say that I got over
homesickness because there is no such thing as that.
Anyway, what is homesickness? Realizing there is no one to take care of you when you get sick?

Furthermore, if you are living abroad, try to find nation based communities. This is very helpful
because if the language is a problem for you, there will people who speak your native language in the
community. Remember people from the community probably passed through the same process you are
passing right now. They would have had the same questions you have right now, so don t hesitate to
ask for help. You will see, they will be willing to help. Moreover, you can join a religious community
such as churches, mosques, and synagogues. These faith based communities have occasional
gatherings where you can meet with other community members and become a part of something
important for you. Other communities that are based on specific activities as biking, hiking or dancing
are also great opportunities for abroad living people to surround themselves with people who share
same interests with them and spend good time together.
Secondly, exploring your new place is another way to lessen homesickness. When you first move, you
might feel like the outsider which causes homesickness to increase; therefore, stop being a tourist and
take action to become a local. For instance, plan a visit to must see places, become familiar with the
new cuisine and participate in local events like festivals. Integrating into the local life will help you to
be a part of your

Anglo Saxon And Germanic Culture In Beowulf
Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture has a very deep culture, in which they are known in history. As
this epic poem is told, Beowulf embodies this culture in his heroic instances during this epic poem.
With the Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture being the backbone of this poem s culture, Beowulf
exemplifies what this culture is and what they stand for. As the story is told and develops with
Beowulf, he himself shows through his heroic instances what it means to be a heroic figure from this
ancient culture having qualities of honor, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf s first showing of his loyalty
was when he heard about Grendel and decided to go defeat this monster. When he heard about
Grendel, Hygelac s thane was on home ground, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him
alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that
would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and search out that king, the
famous prince who needed defenders (Beowulf, Line 195). His decision to go and help the Danes was
one of debt, for he knew of Hrothgar and had helped his father during exile. As Beowulf and his men
arrived to Hrothgar s kingdom, his guards didn t know about this man coming, but when they saw him
they were just excited knowing he could be the one. The leader of the troop unlocked his word hoard;
the distinguished one delivered this answer: We belong by birth to the Geat people mission and owe
allegiance to Lord

Statue Raising Equal Protection Issues
1. Why does this statue raise equal protection issues instead of substantive due process concerns
Substantive due process and equal protection require review of subastance of the law or other
governmental action rather than review of the procedures used. When a law of action limits thelibeity
of all individuals to do something it may violate substantive due process; when a law or action limits
liberty of some individuals but not others then it may violate the equal protection clause. In this case
because it s only applying to motorcycle operators and their passenges than it raises some equal
protection issues (Cross, Frank B. and Miller, L., 2012). This statue is more state interest to protect
others and promote safety. 2. What are the three

Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis
Suicide In The Trenches
In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques
to show his perspective on the true meaning of war.
For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple
soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to
committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak
home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and
pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. In the last line it implies the fact that the crowd doesn t
have to go through the hell where youth and laughter go . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
the rhyme of brain and again at line eight tries to form a connection that although a young boy was
convinced to join the war and fought tremendously for his country and himself. However, in the end,
he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is.
The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is
effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at
risk which creates the bitter mood.
The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word
kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the
facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of
empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they
think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return
and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine
what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of
everyone s personality.
In my personal opinion, the last stanza is the strongest and most impactful stanza. While the previous
two stanzas shows the transformation of the boy

Reflection On The Seamstress
The Seamstress dramatically changed how I viewed the Holocaust because it not only showed me how
intolerable the conditions were, but also how poorly the Jews were treated. Before reading The
Seamstress I did not fully grasp the concept of the Holocaust or the fact that the Jews were scared for
their lives. My knowledge of the tragic event was very vague, and I didn t understand it was so
horrific. Not only were the survivors extremely brave, but they also suffered unbearable scenarios
which I, myself, do not believe I could withstand. Initially, the book showed me that the Jews were
despised, preyed upon, and often felt very unsafe just walking in the street. It s very sad that people
felt unsafe around their homes, and where they grew up. It s also sad that Jews were harrassed in the
street and around their houses. I think you should be able to walk freely without being nervous to be
taunted. The Jews, however, couldn t walk freely, were so often spit on, and called names by the
Germans. Sadly, even the kids were being so mean to the Jews. I believe that hate and racism is
taught, and the German s definitely taught their children to hate the Jews. The children often spit on
the Jews walking in the streets and called them names such as, dirty Jews, filthy pigs, or whores. As if

Most of the time there was no motive for the killings. The book told us that the soldiers went and

trench, six feet deep and four feet wide. As soon as the trench was completed everyone was shot. In
fact, there were several instances were Jews were killed for no reason at all. As sad as it was, nothing

The Research Of Second Language Acquisition ( Sla )
INTRODUCTION
The research of second language acquisition (SLA) and its theories surged in the twentieth century. At
a first glance, the definition of SLA may seem clear, however when analysed further it becomes clear
that the subject is a bit more complex. Nevertheless, a good definition of it could be as follows: a
study of ... the way in which people learn a language other than their mother tongue, inside or outside
a classroom. (Ellis, 1997:3) From the 1940s to the 1960s, a psycholinguistic theory known as
behaviourism (stimulus response), was developed, becoming recognised as a legitimate theory behind
SLA. This was a positivist approach towards language learning which involved the interference and
transfer between a speaker s first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By providing a theoretical framework, then going on to discuss the arguments for and against the CA
hypothesis, a conclusion on its reliability will be drawn.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
In order to fully understand the reasons for which the CA hypothesis has fallen into decline, with
questions of its reliability in being sufficient in the explanation of errors made by L2 learners, it is
necessary to examine other theories behind SLA. Firstly, as aforementioned, behaviourism (and
therewith CA) was one school of thought, popularised by B.F Skinner and John Watson. CA is
explained in Robert Lado s Linguistics Across Cultures (1957, p. 2) in which he asserts that those
elements that are similar to the [learner s] native language will be simple for him, and those areas that
are different will be difficult. By this, Lado meant that errors made in the L2 (by learners) are due to
habits which differed from the structures in their L1 and these errors would thus reflect the L1 s
structure.
However, there is another notable hypothesis which aims to explain the errors made by learners of a
second language, that being Larry Selinker s interlanguage hypothesis. According to Rod Ellis
(1997:33), this was coined in recognition of the fact that, although L2 construct a linguistic system
that does adopt part of the L1 structure, but is also differs from it and also from the target language.
This means that the

Slaughter s Essay Why Women Still Can T Have It All
In her article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter comes to the conclusion that
women can have it all, but the present structure of today s society has made it unfeasible. Slaughter, a
high profile government employee, was appalled when she received supercilious and demeaning
remarks regarding her stepping down; ultimately choosing her family over her career (Slaughter).
Choosing family may be an easy choice for some, but when today s society has placed an exceeding
amount of value in ones career, some are faced with an unimaginable decision. For women to finally
have it all, a family and a career, Slaughter argues that we must rediscover the pursuit of happiness,
redefine what it means to be successful, and reacquire family values. Slaughter claims that society has
redefined the value of childcare, and is irritated that employers make conjectures, of equally qualified
employees, based upon whether or not they are a parent. For instance, she compares a marathon
runner to a parent, who are both equally qualified employees. She continues to emphasize that to be
both a parent and a marathon runner takes the same amount of dedication and determination.
Slaughter insists, The discipline, organization, and sheer endurance it takes to succeed ... Show more

The American definition of a successful professional is someone who can climb the ladder the furthest
in the shortest time, generally peaking between ages 45 and 55 (Slaughter). Because life expectancy
has increased, couples marry and have kids later, people retire earlier, and have multiple jobs and
careers, climbing the ladder furthest in the shortest amount of time is not the best way to achieve
success. In Slaughters eyes the path to success is not a straight upward slope, it is a combination of
irregular stair steps with periodic

1984 George Orwell Totalitarianism
In history, many people have tried to see what the future will bring. George Orwell, author of 1984, is
no different. Orwell believed that a totalitarian form of government was close if the American citizens
were not aware of the dangers it holds. Throughout 1984, Orwell warns the readers of a horrible thing
under a totalitarian government. Orwell s message about totalitarian government is clearly stated as
WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH .
The first line of Big Brothers slogan is War is Peace , is an communication that describes
totalitarianism perfectly, Orwell knew totalitarianism is kept and gained through force, or war. His
message about totalitarian government is that it is never peaceful. Those under a totalitarian
government who are not completely agreed would be killed, much like today in China or Cuba.
Orwell showed this by having Winston and Julia horribly tortured after their conspiracy to overthrow
Big Brother was uncovered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Oceania must give up their rights of love, friends, and importantly the freedom of thought. This is
an example of the powers of a totalitarian government, but to Orwell, his point must be viewed
seriously. Orwell is trying to get the reader the idea that totalitarianism may look good ideologically,
but in all reality it would be a horrible place to live. Oceania could be called a Negative Utopia , much
like how Orwell was trying to get the public to tell about totalitarianism. Orwell wanted people to
realize that the only way to survive in a totalitarian of government as to be a slave of that government.
Every party member in Oceania was a slave who either spent their time working for the government or
watching Two Minute Hate against a traitor named Goldstein . This was how Oceania controlled its
people, much like how a higher totalitarian government would control

The foreground of the original live action was shot against greenscreen. Cinesite created the
background using a combination of 2.5D projections populated with CG stalls along with crowd and

Eagle eyed aficionados of Jones s films may notice a brief appearance by Gerty in the background of
another sequence, a nod to Cinesite s previous work on MOON.
In addition to adding interactive monitors to the interior of a large indoor swimming pool, Cinesite s
environment work included interior shots of a library, a coffee shop and Hackers Hall , a seedy indoor
market with line upon line of dark market stall type booths filled with screens, hackers, geeks and
dodgy technology based activities. Futuristic matte paintings imagining some of Berlin s best known
buildings as they would appear 34 years from now were also crafted along with blood shots and
various weapons to support the film s violent and gritty fight sequences.
Like all the digital environments, Hackers Hall entailed a range of invisible effects . The original shot
had a few market stalls in the foreground shot against a giant green screen. Cinesite s team created
models using the foreground as a reference and then created 2.5D projections using other plates to

  • 3. Age Of Exploration During The Commercial Revolution Age of Exploration (1350 1550) (Call to Freedom CTF) The Commercial Revolution changed Europe by changing the way people did business in the 1200s. On page 33 in CTF, the second paragraph states During the Commercial Revolution, however, merchants and craftspeople became more aggressive about making a profit. Many Landlords wanted farmers to grow crops to be sold on their rented land. Cities grew rich from specific things such as dying cloth in Florence and glassmaking in Venice. They also brought rare goods from far away making many cities have rich trading centers. Not everybody could afford a business because people were too obsessed with making money. Instead, they created joint stock companies just in case their business didn t work out as planned. People opened banks to earn capital from interest such as the Medici family. Europe reached a high point where many people were wealthy and gained more power changing rising Europe s economy and power causing many monopolies. There was also great growth in the merchant s class and towns/urban centers (Page 33, CTF). The Commercial Revolution was greatly based off trade (CTF, PG. 35, Paragraph 3 6) and many things were traveled via the Silk Road. When trading with other places, people became interested in where these things were from so the explored and looked for these places. Another reason for people exploring was that they wanted to spread Christianity. The Renaissance changed Europe by giving motivation to learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effect of processing technique and core thickness on fracture resistance of Lithium disilicate copings having two different thicknesses Keywords: IPS e.max;Press; CAD / CAM; core thickness; fracture strength. Introduction High strength All ceramic restorations, with different composition, structure, and processing methods, have been introduced as an alternative to metal ceramic restorations in many applications (1). Due to their translucency and strength, IPS e.max ceramics have become increasingly popular as dental restorative materials (2) .They can be used as a substructure (core) to support the more fragile veneering ceramics in dental crowns (3 5). However few data in literature were about different coping thicknesses of IPS e.max to determine the optimum thickness which allows more conservative preparation and gives space for the veneering material. Increasing the fracture strength of all ceramic restorations increase their durability during function and decrease complications such as secondary caries and periodontal diseases. There has been growing interest in ceramic restorations due to their optimal esthetics and biocompatibility (6). However, their use is associated with some shortcomings. Chipping of the veneering porcelain is the most frequently encountered complication of all ceramic restorations (7). The second most common clinical failure may be gross fracture of restoration (8). • 7. Of Mice And Men Book Report Essay The fiction book that I chose for my summer reading was Of Mice and Men . When I was given the list of fiction books, I went on good reads dot com and looked up all the books on the fiction list. Of Mice and Men really caught my eye because it was a book about two friends going through tough times, which always has a deeper meaning of friendship. Once I chose Of Mice and Men I picked it up at my local library. The book was exceptionally simple to read and my understanding of every page was straightforward. It only took me a week to read. Prior to reading the book I knew it would be about two migrant workers that were struggling with making ends meet in hard times (Goodread.com). The only preconceived notion I thought was going to happen was when Lennie and George were chased out of a town named Weed because of Lennie s actions, when ... George is a tiny, lean and sharp featured man who takes care of his friend Lennie (Steinbeck). To keep things simple this book is about two friends that need each other to survive in a time where no one cares about anybody. They flee a town because of Lennie s actions and end up finding work on a ranch, where they are introduced to many new characters (Steinbeck). Time gets suspenseful at the ranch and in the end Lennie s gets into more trouble and ultimately dies in the end (Steinbeck). My favorite character in Of Mice and Men was George because he is a genuine character who is smart and takes care of Lennie with his mental disability. • 8. Twin Personality Traits Personality is a combination of people s genetics, forces in their environments, and the life choices they make. A person s personality is their characteristic thoughts, emotional responses, and behaviors. While personality traits are patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that is relatively consistent over time and across situations. When you get to know some you start to predict how they are going to react to certain situations. These predications are dispositions (Gazzaniga, Heatherton, Halpern). There is evidence that personality comes from biological factors, such as genes, brain structure, and neurochemistry) but environmental factors determine if they prevail. James Loehlin did a study on twin personalities. He determined that identical twins personalities are more similar than fraternal twins because they share similar genes. Loehlin also found that parenting style has little to do with the personality of twins. He discovered this by observing twins who grew up in separate families (Gazzaniga, Heatherton, Halpern). Temperaments are biologically based tendencies to feel or act in certain ways. There are three basic characteristics can be considered temperaments, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Child Poverty In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established. When looking at the statistics of child poverty from the past, it is clear that there was an increasing number of families and children living in poverty. This trend dates back to the year 2000 when 11.6 million people were living in poverty. In 2007, the number of individuals suffering from poverty rose to 13.4 million, (Arrighi Maume, 2007). This is due to the massive economic fallout, also known as the Great Recession. The United States lost over 7.5 million jobs and the unemployment rate doubled, which directly impacted parents and their children, (Grusky etc., 2011). This crisis resulted in leaving many Americans financially insecure. Even though many of the financially stable individuals suffered a great loss, they were able to utilize their resources to navigate through the calamity and recover whereas those who were poor faced an economic issue with greater impact. They were faced with foreclosures, bankruptcies and mortgage felonies. Most importantly, the lives of the young children were negatively impacted as well. The four areas that the children were affected by from the Great Recession were: health, hunger, housing, abuse and neglect, (Wiltz 2015). In several households, there was at least one member that suffered from malnourishment because of the inadequate food supply for the family. • 10. The True Disillusionment Of The American Dream As a child, did you ever dream about something huge, like becoming a movie star or owning your own mansion? Did this dream come true? For many people living in the 1930 s, as well as in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, their dream did not come true. Many people in this time period believed that they could prosper and become successful; they believed in the American Dream. Steinbeck shows the true disillusionment of the American Dream through his characters in his novel. Steinbeck uses Curley s wife to show the failure of a Hollywood version of the American Dream. Curley s wife was a small town girl who truly believed she could make it big in Hollywood. She always wore fancy clothes, like a red cotton dress and red mules... (Steinbeck 31) and heavy eye make up. She never looked like she belonged on the ranch. However, that was all she was: the wife of a rancher. Later on in the novel, the reader gets a clip of her dream. She tells Crooks, Candy, and Lennie, I tell ya I could of went with the shows. Not jus one, neither. An a guy tol me he could put me in pitchers... (Steinbeck 78). This gives the reader a feel of her disappointment that she is just a wife of a rancher, instead of a famous movie star. Later on, Curley s wife is talking with Lennie in the barn, and she opens up to him and tells him more about her failed dream. There was two instances where she could have become famous. Being that the Wife has been married a total of five times, she considers herself an expert on marriage. Her first four husbands were all older than her, though she used her sexual abilities along with her sharp mind to manipulate them. Once Alysun received what she asked for she became a better and more faithful wife to Jankyn, until he died. The wife of Bath believes and reiterates in her story that the key to a happy marriage is giving a woman complete control and power over their marriage. In her tale, Alyson tells the pardoner about a young knight. The knight rapes a young maiden. Alyson at the time using the knight as an example of how misguided and lost the knight is without guidance of a woman goes on to tell how the knight was saved by a woman. • 12. The Importance Of Being A Self Directed By Jeff Cobb There are many aspects to being a self directed, intrinsically motivated, and active learner. From our reading assignments it has become plain that the most important aspect is taking initiative. This means being someone who doesn t have to be told to learn this or that, but will take the first steps down the road of learning. Taking the initiative to learn is core to every other aspect, whether we talk about the 15 Ways of the Successful Self Directed Learner by Jeff Cobb, or come up with our own definitions and reflections on being an active learner. Instead of going through the list from our reading assignments, I m going to wing this a bit, and touch upon the more important aspects which I consider essential to being an active learner. Apart from being someone who takes initiative with learning, the next most important aspect would be someone who is independent, as a truly successful active learner is someone who can ask the questions and find the answers on their own. I think being curious is equally important, since from this curiosity will spring the desire to learn, as the curious person asks questions and finds answers to challenges and problems. As Jeff Cobb says it, The proverbial bottom line: the successful self directed learner simply likes to learn. (Cobb, 2013) All of these things discuss the qualities of the successful active learner, but there are other aspects that are equally important, since without the right behaviors a person will never take the ... • 13. Similarities Between The Heart And The Human Body The hidden similarities to the human body The heart and the brain are both uniquely fascinating organs in the human body. People probably believe the heart and the brain are very different from each other. They probably think the brain is what we use to think, make decisions, do well on English papers, and how we know how to do our jobs. They probably think the heart is how we pump blood through the body, what the doctor listens to during patient checkups, or that we have had a meal that just didn t agree with us. These do seem like quite different organs; however, these organs are actually quite similar in certain ways. Even though the heart and brain are two different organs, they have common characteristics that are essential for the body to operate properly. First, the heart and brain are similar in they both function using an electrical system. The brain has neurons, which send electrical impulses throughout the body to notify the body of certain senses and tasks (Martini et al. 410). For example, when someone touches something hot such as a clothing iron, then their immediate reaction is to remove their hand. If an object gets near the eye, then people blink to protect the eye. These reactions are all because the brain has received an electrical impulse that triggers a message of what to do like move the hand and blink the eye. The heart also has an electrical system. The heart has a conductive pathway that consists of electrical impulses that tell the heart when to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. How Did The Meiji Restoration A Change In Japanese Society The Meiji Restoration, refers to the events that led to the restoration of power to Emperor Meiji Tenno. The previous political and military leader of Japan had been the Tokugawa shogunate, but due to the intrusion of the western powers, particularly the Americans, under the command of Commodore Perry, the Shogun was forced to return power to the Emperor. This restoration of power led to many changes in Japanese society such as the social structure, the education system and the Japanese economy that has contributed to Japan becoming a modern world power. One of the biggest changes that happened in the Japanese society because of the Meiji Restoration was the change in social structure. Instead of being dictated their roles in life by the Tokugawa Shogunate, millions of people were free to choose their occupation and move without restrictions (AFA, 2014). However not all previous social roles were allowed to continue on under Emperor Meiji. The Samurai social class was made obsolete (ABC Splash, 2016). • 16. Propagand Like A Good Neighbor Like A Good Neighbor Our society has used different forms of advertisements, commercials, and propaganda since even before the 20th century. Propaganda is described to be information that is usually misleading or uninformed, that tends to be used to promote political views or to persuade a consumer into buying a sellers product. According to Ann McClintock, propaganda is the systematic effort to influence peoples opinions, to win them over to a certain view or side. Overtime with the advancements of technology, forms of propaganda and advertisements have changed, but the end result has always been the same, as well as the goal to get the consumer to buy the goods. There are many propaganda techniques that advertisers use. Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon are the seven propaganda techniques. Companies use these techniques to persuade people to buy their products and to trust the company. For example, in the commercial from the insurance company State Farm, the commercial starts off with the husband on the phone with Jake, who is a representative from State Farm, and the husbands wife walking in at three in the morning astounded and concerned as to why he would ever be talking to anyone on the phone that late at night. Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, a humorous piece of self reflexive theater that draws upon Shakespeare s Hamlet as the source of the story. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play is academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but also criticizes it. The aspect of self reflexive theater is used to comment on theater itself but also as a presentation of ideas and analysis that had previously had no place on the plot centric set up of stage and audience. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary manner? GUIL. I can t imagine! Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that is required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t to insult the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we take in order to participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were academic journals and essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience. The Player exemplifies my point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that Stoppard is trying to occupy with the play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the happenings onstage (textual evidence? How about on page 25 when Guildenstern and the Player discuss fate. Guildenstern asks Yours [fate] or ours? The Player answers It could hardly be one without the other ). The Player, in my opinion, diffuses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The terrifying truth about the negative impact of these ads on children, who are supposed to be attracted by interesting activities that collaborate to their growth and development made the author defending them since it is alarming to realize that, the typical American child now spends about twenty one hours a week watching television roughly one and a half months of TV every year (Schlosser 357). Schlosser gives more details about the bitter reality of the kids of this century who are unfortunately preyed by many advertising corporations and ads companies. In addition to logos, the author appeals to pathos to evoke his audience s emotional feeling as all the facts are about children which works well with his purpose. To convince the audience of how important it is not involving children in marketing, the author uses a vivid description of many situations where kids show the uncooperative effects of these lucrative corporations on them. The millhands, enraged at Thornton s hiring of Irish workers while they are on strike, descend in a mob upon Thornton s mill and home. This chapter is also pivotal in the relationship between Thornton and the novel s principal character Margaret Hale. We become more and more civilized that our way of life must change to match the changes in our world. One of the most common changes that have hit our today s society is media. Media has penetrated through all barriers including our war fronts and areas where man never thought to have penetrated. As media develops through the years and technology expands more media outlets open and so the society has and continues to move away from the mainstream media (CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, ABC, etc.) to local media and different websites to get their news. The trust society had in Television and the mainstream media to provide true and uncontaminated reports has faded and therefore society is moving away from these to where they believe they can get news first hand. In this paper, I will attempt to explain why in today s media many people don t just rely on the major networks but go online for news (Local, National, and Global). Could this be splintering our views and causing more anger? Should it be regulated? I will also attempt to express my opinion on what the business of news is becoming in the next ten years. Over the years Newspapers, journals, magazines and Television had been the main source of source of news for out American society. In recent years due to the advent of modern technology and the internet journalism has improved and most of the media outlet expanded the way they cover ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, before you dive into the world of horse ownership, it is important to consider the following issues: Time Budget Monthly costs Ongoing long term care Ambition 1. As this epic poem is told, Beowulf embodies this culture in his heroic instances during this epic poem. With the Anglo Saxon and Germanic culture being the backbone of this poem s culture, Beowulf exemplifies what this culture is and what they stand for. As the story is told and develops with Beowulf, he himself shows through his heroic instances what it means to be a heroic figure from this ancient culture having qualities of honor, loyalty, and strength. Beowulf s first showing of his loyalty was when he heard about Grendel and decided to go defeat this monster. When he heard about Grendel, Hygelac s thane was on home ground, over in Geatland. There was no one else like him alive. In his day, he was the mightiest man on earth, high born and powerful. He ordered a boat that would ply the waves. He announced his plan: to sail the swan s road and search out that king, the famous prince who needed defenders (Beowulf, Line 195). His decision to go and help the Danes was one of debt, for he knew of Hrothgar and had helped his father during exile. As Beowulf and his men arrived to Hrothgar s kingdom, his guards didn t know about this man coming, but when they saw him they were just excited knowing he could be the one. • 30. Suicide in the Trenches- Analysis Suicide In The Trenches In my analysis, I will demonstrate how Siegfred Sassoon has used many different language techniques to show his perspective on the true meaning of war. For example, the poet has used simplistic diction that creates an image of the destruction of a simple soldier boy . At first we see him whistling, this then degrades to depression which lead him to committing suicide. Siegfred Sassoon concludes his poem with anger and a powerful message. Sneak home and pray you ll never know emphasizes that those who aren t soldiers have to sneak home and pray to show their empathy for the soldiers. However, in the end, he was pushed to his limit and no one spoke of him again . This shows how cruel and selfish war is. The boy had sacrificed his childhood fun, laughter and playful life in for nothing to return. This is effective because it makes the reader think about why is there war and why are there innocent lives at risk which creates the bitter mood. The diction used in the poem sends the reader a clear message about war. In the last stanza, the word kindling is being used to describe the eyes of the smug faced crowds . Kindling is used to describe the facial description which shows that it is a very shallow expression feature that expresses the lack of empathy shown to the young men. However, Siegfried tries to show with a sarcastic tone that they think war is a glorious thing; they feel proud of the children risking their lives with nothing in return and seem to understand and appreciate what they are doing. But in reality the public cannot imagine what these children are going through. This is how the word kindling reveals a shallow side of everyone s personality. Before reading The Seamstress I did not fully grasp the concept of the Holocaust or the fact that the Jews were scared for their lives. My knowledge of the tragic event was very vague, and I didn t understand it was so horrific. Not only were the survivors extremely brave, but they also suffered unbearable scenarios which I, myself, do not believe I could withstand. Initially, the book showed me that the Jews were despised, preyed upon, and often felt very unsafe just walking in the street. It s very sad that people felt unsafe around their homes, and where they grew up. It s also sad that Jews were harrassed in the street and around their houses. I think you should be able to walk freely without being nervous to be taunted. The Jews, however, couldn t walk freely, were so often spit on, and called names by the Germans. Sadly, even the kids were being so mean to the Jews. I believe that hate and racism is taught, and the German s definitely taught their children to hate the Jews. By providing a theoretical framework, then going on to discuss the arguments for and against the CA hypothesis, a conclusion on its reliability will be drawn. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK In order to fully understand the reasons for which the CA hypothesis has fallen into decline, with questions of its reliability in being sufficient in the explanation of errors made by L2 learners, it is necessary to examine other theories behind SLA. Firstly, as aforementioned, behaviourism (and therewith CA) was one school of thought, popularised by B.F Skinner and John Watson. CA is explained in Robert Lado s Linguistics Across Cultures (1957, p. 2) in which he asserts that those elements that are similar to the [learner s] native language will be simple for him, and those areas that are different will be difficult. By this, Lado meant that errors made in the L2 (by learners) are due to habits which differed from the structures in their L1 and these errors would thus reflect the L1 s structure. However, there is another notable hypothesis which aims to explain the errors made by learners of a second language, that being Larry Selinker s interlanguage hypothesis. According to Rod Ellis (1997:33), this was coined in recognition of the fact that, although L2 construct a linguistic system that does adopt part of the L1 structure, but is also differs from it and also from the target language. Slaughter s Essay Why Women Still Can T Have It All In her article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter comes to the conclusion that women can have it all, but the present structure of today s society has made it unfeasible. Slaughter, a high profile government employee, was appalled when she received supercilious and demeaning remarks regarding her stepping down; ultimately choosing her family over her career (Slaughter). Choosing family may be an easy choice for some, but when today s society has placed an exceeding amount of value in ones career, some are faced with an unimaginable decision. For women to finally have it all, a family and a career, Slaughter argues that we must rediscover the pursuit of happiness, redefine what it means to be successful, and reacquire family values. Slaughter claims that society has redefined the value of childcare, and is irritated that employers make conjectures, of equally qualified employees, based upon whether or not they are a parent. For instance, she compares a marathon runner to a parent, who are both equally qualified employees. She continues to emphasize that to be both a parent and a marathon runner takes the same amount of dedication and determination.
