Essay on Summary and Analysis of The Pardoner s Tale
Summary and Analysis of The Pardoner s Tale (The Canterbury Tales)
Prologue to the Pardoner s Tale:
The Host thinks that the cause of Virginia s death in the previous tale was her beauty. To counter the
sadness of the tale, the Host suggests that the Pardoner tell a lighter tale. The Pardoner delays, for he
wants to finish his meal, but says that he shall tell a moral tale. He says that he will tell a tale with this
moral: the love of money is the root of all evil. He claims that during his sermons he shows useless
trifles that he passes off as saints relics. He proudly tells about how he defrauds people who believed
they have sinned. He states explicitly that his goal is not to save people from sin, but to gain money
from them. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he is one of the most developed characters, he is the character perhaps most defined by his
profession. The Pardoner has substituted a system of values with a rote performance, which conforms
to his profession, which substitutes a meaningless monetary transaction for penance for sin. The
Pardoner therefore suggests a traditional Vice character who behaves strictly out of the most impure
motives, but where he departs from vice characters, who shamelessly commit misdeeds for their own
pleasure, is that he lacks the necessary amoral quality. The Pardoner is not a moral man, but he
nevertheless has a moral system to which he most certainly does not adhere.
The Pardoner s Tale:
There once lived in Flanders a group of three rioters who did nothing but engage in irresponsible and
sinful behavior. They were blasphemous drunkards who, while in a tavern one night, witnessed men
carrying a corpse to its grave. A boy told the rioters that the dead man was one of their friends, slain
by an unseen thief called Death. They remark that Death has slain thousands, and vow to slay Death
themselves. The three drunken men go off to find Death, but only come across an ancient man
shrouded in robes. He claims that Death will not take him, and says that they can find Death
underneath a nearby oak tree. When they found the tree they only found bushels of gold. They decide
to take the treasure and divide it evenly, but realize that if they immediate went

My Writing As An Inquiry
I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and other skills during my semester in Writing as an
inquiry . Not only were my writing skills improved, my understanding of rhetoric increased as well.
This was done through teacher instruction, class participation, and assignments. Up to this point, I
completed four projects in the semester. Each project being very different and improving my writing,
rhetoric, communication skills, and testing my creativity. The first project that was assigned in the
class was a Learning Narrative. The goal of this assignment was to write about a profound learning
moment that occurred in my life. Another goal of this assignment was to expand my knowledge on
rhetoric. This assignment was when I was first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lightbulb clicked and I decided to use Lifetime gym as my culture and a dumbbell as my artifact.
The next step of this project was to compare my culture and artifact with another culture. The biggest
obstacle I faced was having to be creative and think about how other people and cultures may view the
dumbbell. It was difficult to pick just one certain group and try to hypothesis how they may view the
dumbbell. I chose to think of how people of low income and countries in poverty may view the
dumbbell. I hypothesized they most likely do not have access to the dumbbell. Therefore, not knowing
what it is, or having to use other heavy objects as a substitute for a dumbbell. This project was very
interesting and eye opening. An object like a dumbbell, which I have very easy access to, is not easily
accessible for everyone.
Without this project, I would not have thought of a broader culture. It makes me grateful to be able to
have such easy access to a dumbbell, which others in countries in poverty may not have the luxury of.
I reached the goals of this assignment. I was able to think of a specific artifact and describe it in
specific detail. I then thought of a few broader cultures and was able to compare a specific culture to
mine.
Project three was the remix project. The goals of this project were to be able to take writing and turn it
into a visual. In a group with two other people, we would use the phrase A

Renaming Computer Power Group
On Monday morning, December 5, 1998, Peter James, CEO and Managing Director of Computer
Power Group (CPG), a leader in the Australian IT education and services industry, was reflecting on
the results of the recent Brand Visioning offsite code named Project Horizon. He was satisfied with
the future plan they had created for the brand, including an articulation of the brand purpose and
values, a clear statement of branding objectives, and a brand architecture that effectively unified
brands in the portfolio (see Exhibits 1 2). James was relieved that the team decided that they should

Institute), the individual training brands, would merge and become Interim Individual Training or a
variant thereof. However, many senior managers at the offsite were hesitant to consolidate individual
brands under a single sub brand umbrella, thus abandoning equities that the firm had invested in over
the years. James remained convinced that the benefits of scale would outweigh the equity lost in
abandoning the existing names. He arranged a meeting involving the General Managers of each of the
four current education subbrands, and Melissa Richardson, Strategy Innovation Partner from Galileo,
the brand development consultancy that had been working with CPG on their brand initiative from the
start. James started the meeting. As you all know, I am seriously considering sub branding the
individual and corporate education brands under the Interim corporate umbrella. He turned to Mike
Clugston, the General Manager of CPTI. Mike, I understand from your comments at the visioning
offsite that you are not comfortable with this course of action. What would you recommend? Well,
began Clugston, I agree that there are benefits that can be realized by integrating our brand names
with others in the company. I understand your position, but if we introduce new brand

Elementary School And High School
Class is defined as a group of people who have a similar level of wealth and income. Even though this
ideology is more referred to specific individuals regarding their occupation, education can be
considered to follow this same description. There are educational institutions everywhere, one
elementary school usually in one part of a neighborhood in your hometown. As these schools grown in
number and increase in grade level however, less become established and there tend to be a smaller
amount of high schools within a city compared to elementary or middle. This means that for every 4
or 5 neighborhoods there is 1 high school that is responsible for accepting these residents. High
schools quickly become established in large district areas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How are low income schools different than higher income schools? This is a concerning issue because
if there continues to be a financial difference between educational institutions that affects the quality
of schools, there will be an entire generation of students that will have received a poor education and
have limited opportunities of successfully integrating with society compared to graduates that attained
a higher quality education from a higher income school. This decreases social mobility of low income
school graduates, continues stratification, and may encourage low income graduates to enact in high
risk illegal acts to support themselves and families since they were not properly prepared to be college
ready in high school. Low income schools mainly differ from higher income schools through student
performance in college preparatory exams and behavioral issues/stigmas.
Differences in student performance on college preparatory exams is the first noticeable difference
between low income schools and higher income schools. Bryan Station had a larger percentage of
students that underperformed and scored a lower average mean ACT composite score compared to
Fayette County and Kentucky. The average ACT score of a Bryan Station student is 18.1, compared to
the county average of 21.4 and the state average of 19.1 (Startclass, 2016). Compared to Henry Clay,

Reduction of Natural Resources Essay
Reduction of Natural Resources
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to make known the negative social implications of the catching
up development myth through globalization and to break down specific concepts of vertical and lateral
oppression from the top natural resources consumers of oil in the world. This paper also demonstrates
my interest in creating biological and economic equity in the world through breaking down these
oppressive frameworks and hence, my interest in obtaining knowledge about alternative energy uses to
be used as a tool to help liberate others in places of need.

local air, soil, and water systems. The Maquiladora companies are responsible for the short and long
term environmental degradation inflicted on the local area, which is not factored into the cost of
production. One of the main reasons, however, as to why not all countries can be as industrial
productive as the U.S., is simply because it is materialistically impossible. The carrying capacity of
the earth s natural resources cannot handle the consumption rate of the U.S. if it is applied to the rest
of the world. If, for example, we note that the six percent of the world s population who live in the
U.S. annually consume 25 percent (which we discussed in class) of all the oil energy produced,
obviously, it is impossible for the rest of the world s population, of which 80 percent live in poor
countries, to consume energy on that scale. How can the concept of catching up be true? Maria Mies
explains In my opinion, the powers that dominate today s world economy are aware of this, the
managers of the transnational corporations, the World Bank, the IMF, the banks and governments of
the club of rich counties; and in fact they do not really want this universolization because it would end
their growth model. She goes on to explain how this oppressive framework is often masked by such
euphemisms as North South relations , sustainable

The Importance Of Computer Literacy
By definition, computer literacy is basic, nontechnical knowledge about computers and how to use
them; familiarity and experience with computers, software, and computer systems. ( Computer literacy
| Define Computer literacy at Dictionary.com, n.d.) Computer literacy is when an individual is familiar
enough with a computer to be able to use it without help or needing extensive knowledge. Someone
who is computer literate is able to use a computer, navigate folders and sub folders, run programs,
install and uninstall computer software, and general knowledge of how it operates.
Computer algorithms and its significance
Computer algorithms are significant in that without them, a computer would not function. A computer
algorithm is a set of instructions which tells the computer how to do something, and in return, we are
given an output of some sort. A computer algorithm can be defined as a procedure for solving a
mathematical problem (as of finding the greatest common divisor) in a finite number of steps that
frequently involves repetition of an operation; broadly . ( Algorithm | Definition of Algorithm by
Merriam Webster, n.d.) Essentially, an algorithm is a set of instructions which are laid out step by step,
in order for the computer to process the information and preform a task.

Professional Sports Ethical Analysis
I don t find that an agent representing more than one athlete on the same team to be unethical. From
the agent s perspective, it is important for him to build his clientele thus building his reputation
amongst athletes. When an athlete hires an agent, they trust that person to handle almost all aspects of
their career, which includes negotiating endorsement deals, career advice, contract negotiations, and
concierge services. Also, if a few players share the same agent on the same team, it could potentially
build chemistry between the athletes as far as communicating in the locker room. It is unethical for an
agent to represent a coach and a player on the same team as it could potentially lead to conflicting
interests. Coaches deal with just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have seen a few examples of two players that share the same agent on the same team when both are
negotiating new contracts. This creates leverage for that sports agent against the team. Surely, that
team will want to keep their star player but that price becomes steep when the same agent ups the
asking price for the less known player who also needs a new deal. An example I ll give involved
LeBron James and Tristan Thompson. They both share the same agent, Rich Paul. Another caveat is
that Rich Paul is a long time friend of LeBron James. Obviously, LeBron is one of the best players of
this generation. However, Tristan Thompson while is a good player, is nowhere near being one of the
top players in the league. In his career, he has averaged 9.7 PPG and 8.5 RPG. Thompson was
involved in a long contract stalemate with the Cavs because he wanted a max contract. After months
of negotiations, Thompson received a 5 year $82 million dollar deal from Cleveland. NBA executives
around the league were surprised to see the deal that Thompson got. Rich Paul benefitted greatly from
this as his two clients were getting paid max contract money from Cleveland. From the Cavs
perspective, they overpaid for a middle of the road player to keep their star player

The Mausoleum Of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi
The mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi is one of the world s most precious cultural treasures and
its discovery was China s most spectacular archaeological achievement of the 20th century. Good
morning everyone, I am Zara Frost, curator of the Museum of Warrior and Horse figures from the
tomb of Qin Shihuangdi. Today, I will be personally giving you a tour of the museum and proving to
you that funerary evidence reveals that Emperor Qin Shihuangdi had absolute power and control over
the people in his dynasty, forcing them to build him an extravagant tomb filled with terracotta warriors
to guide him in the afterlife. During the tour, I will be talking about Qin Shihuangdi and how he
controlled his dynasty, then I will talk about the terracotta warriors, how they were discovered, made
and giving you an insight into their physical characteristics, and lastly, what other items were buried in
the tomb with the warriors. Firstly, the first emperor of all of China was named Ying Zheng. He was
born in 260BC during a dangerous period of Chinese History. He ascended the throne in 247BC when
he was only thirteen years old. In 221 BC, Zheng united all of what is known now as China and
renamed himself Qin Shihuangdi, meaning first emperor of Qin . According to Will Durant, American
writer, historian, and philosopher, by unifying China, Qin simplified official ceremonies, issued a state

Le Morte DArthur, And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and the Gawain Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are
important works that should be considered when studying medieval literature. They both portray the
style and structure of medieval romance. They also tackle the same topic of King Arthur and his
knights, as well as share the same characters of King Arthur and Sir Gawain. In order to be able to go
over these works and understand them, one must understand the aspects of literature of the time.
There are some aspects found in almost all literary works written in the medieval times, some of
which are influenced by everyday life, problems, religion, and politics. For example, the French
invasion of England, known as the Norman Conquest, greatly influenced the language of the time. At
first, England was ruled by the Anglo Saxons, and used Old English in their literature, even though
they did not write much. With the invasion of the French, Anglo Saxon language was not considered
appropriate, and so they introduce a new easier dialect, which came to be known as Middle English.
This became the language they used to write, and the act of writing itself became more abundant.
Moreover, the conquest resulted in an increasing tension between England and France. This tension is
apparent in many works of the time, including Le Morte d Arthur . For example, the depiction of Sir
Launcelot as the greatest knight of all time in several romances. Also, Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight has roots

local community are the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Cub Scouts, the Girl Scouts. There are generally

One of those is the alien conspiracy theory. The alien conspiracy theory suggests the reasons for
criminal actions are because of outside influences. It proclaims that criminals have moved to the
United States and started a criminal organization here (Rogers, 2011). This theory is supported by the
movie makers in America. Most movies on organized crime portray the leaders of the organization as
foreigners. They walk, dress, and act a certain way. The alien conspiracy theory posits that organized
crime gained prominence in the 1860s in Sicily and that Sicilian immigrants are responsible for the
foundations of U.S. organized crime, which is made up of 25 or so Italian dominated crime families.
Also known as the La Cosa Nostra, the families are composed of wise guys or made men and number
about 1700 members (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007). This theory also suggests strong family bonds.
Because each member is of the same nationality it is easier to influence him to join the organization.
This is prevalent in organized crime. If one family member is a part of the organization, the outside
influence and loyalty may be enough to coerce others into the business. Another theory applicable to
criminal behavior is the rational choice theory. This theory occurs when people choose to commit a
crime after weighing the benefits and consequences of the action. Examples of this theory include a
man who discovers

Analysis Of The Play The Red And Brown Water Essay
Experience Essay About a month ago, my friend invited me to a play on campus that he was going to
be staring in. The play was titled, In the Red and Brown Water, and it was located at the Annex
theatre. I was curious to know what the play was about so that I can get an idea of what to expect. He
mentioned that it is a detailed representation of black culture in the projects of Louisiana. Being that I
am an African American male who was raised in a predominately white community, my interest in
going to this play suddenly grew. The only knowledge I have about the projects is through media and
knowing the general stereotypes of an inner city area. When I attended the play, I had a fantastic
learning experience, and noticed several connections to the texts that we study in the course. To begin
with, the scenery of the play wasn t traditional by any means. Rather than this being a common stage
with a large crowd, this was a black box theatre play. Basically, the stage was in the middle of the
room and the audience surrounded the performers. The room was about the size of an average high
school classroom, which made the play more personal. In fact, the actors would interact with the
crowd at times throughout the play. Next, when I first entered the room, I sensed a smooth vibe from
the way the room looked. It was very dim and the director played songs by black artist from our
generation to serenade the audience with black culture. At this moment, I began to feel very

The Relationship Of Tax Avoidance With Corporate Social...
There is an ongoing debate on the relationship of tax avoidance with corporate social responsibility
(CSR) and ethical behaviour of companies. Specifically, corporate social responsibility can be defined
as companies undertake the responsibility for social welfare and development (Matten and Moon,
2008). For ethical behaviour, it is referred to govern the actions of individuals and organizations in the
business under contemporary standards (Epstein, 1998). Moreover, this is the difference between tax
avoidance, which companies use appropriate methods to reduce the amount of tax within the law, and
tax evasion, which can be defined as illegal to reduce taxes (Hasseldine and Morris, 2013). According
to US Treasury (2009), each year the US government may lose more than $345 billion revenue
because of a variety of tax avoidance. Moreover, the UK government also faces the problem of losing
tax, at £40 billion each year (HM Revenue and Customs, 2010). In recent years, an increasing number
of governments, media, and non government organizations claim that corporate tax avoidance is not
conducive to the development of society and ethical behaviour of enterprises. The aims of this essay
are to research the motivations of corporate tax avoidance, and discusses to a large extent corporate
social responsibility and ethical behaviour of firms is in conflict with tax avoidance, even though they
have some consistency. The first section of the essay will research the motivations of

familial relationships play an integral role to the plot and overall tone of the play. In order to translate
to the screen the importance of the emotions shared in the family, the filmmaking team working on the
movie had to develop a system of shots and compositions that would imply the relationships visually
in order to support the already emotional dialogue of the play. A number of very important scenes
occur in the play, which are emphasized in the film by using these technical cinematic methods.
The first good example of emotion translated through frame composition is that in which Mama
reveals the purchase of the house in Clybourne Park, occurring in Act Two, Scene One of the play.
This scene is pivotal in the course of the narrative. Walter Lee s dream of opening his own liquor store
seems truly killed during this scene, yet the dream so important to Mama and Ruth is simultaneously
being fulfilled. The range of emotions present during the scene is wide. Walter feels anger, resentment,
and hopelessness, while Mama and Ruth feel joy, relief, and satisfaction. Coupled with the women s
joy, however, is the fear of what Walter may say or do in his disappointment. Present also is the
nervousness Mama experiences when revealing that their new home is located in a white

Rock And Roll Impact On American Culture
Rock Roll
Rock Roll is a form of popular music that emerged in the United States in the late 40s and early 50s
from a fusion of blues, country and gospel, boogie woogie, swing and folk music. All of these
influences combined into a simple song structure, with 12 bar blues being one of the most significant
characteristics, that was often repetitive, fast, danceable and catchy. In fact, blues had the biggest
impact that gave birth to Rock Roll. Typical instruments of Rock Roll include electric guitar, piano,
bass, drums, horns and vocals. It is an important genre of music because it has the power to not only
influence but persist through generations of people and has had a huge impact on American society by
consistently setting the trend for pop music. Just like its influence on other forms of music, Rock Roll
had also influenced lifestyles, fashion, attitudes, television, language and dance. ... Show more content

As people immigrated to America mostly from Africa and Europe, they brought their music with them,
exposed it to each other and started to pick up these different styles. There comes the mixture of
African musical tradition with European instrumentation that caused a cultural collision later known
as Rock Roll that gains a wide audience of both white and black teenagers. Radio stations in these
years with its increasing popularity helped the development and spread of gramophone record and
African American musical styles such as jazz and swing which were taken up by white musicians.
Other technological inventions arrive at this time, for instance, electric guitar, amplifier and

Marketing strategy of Samsung mobile phone.
The global communications industry has been changing during the past few years, and quite
dramatically. Wireless communication, as a result, proves to be a hot area for telecom suppliers.
Accordingly, the demand for handset products, from businesses to consumers continues to rise. The
question is how handset manufacturers have fit their global marketing strategies to win widespread
acceptance as competition intensifies. Thus, this analysis highlights Samsung s recent success as a
very typical case in point to the above question. In more focus, the purpose of this analysis is to

Thus, global marketing does suggest that reaching global consumers is a strategically intended
outcome of a hybrid strategic approach. In more details, four main factors included in the above
mentioned approach are product, price, place, and promotion. In other words, when marketing their
products, whether locally or globally, firms need to create a successful mix of:
* the right product
* sold at the right price
* in the right place
* using the most suitable promotion.
1. 1. Product decisions
A product is defined as: Anything that is capable of satisfying customer needs . Then the product is the
central point on which marketing energy must focus. Finding out how to make the product, setting up
the production line, providing the finance and manufacturing the product are not the responsibility of
the only marketing function. However, it is also concerned with what the product means to the
customer. Marketing therefore plays a key role in determining such aspects as:
* the appearance of the product in line with the requirements of the market
* the function of the product products must address the needs of customers as identified through
market research.
Businesses need to regularly develop new products and markets for future growth. A useful way of
looking at growth opportunities is the

1920 American Gangsters
Gangs have existed in the United States for over 200 years. It all started when the first immigrants
came to the U.S.A. Most of them came for a better life but many of them ended up in poverty. The
first gangs were formed among poor adolescents who grouped together for the sake of socialisation
and protection. They were of the same race or the same ethnic background. The first known gang
specialized in crimes was called The Five Points . They consisted of Irish immigrants and was
established in New York City. They dressed in a specific way and used monikers or nicknames.
Another early gang were the Forty Thieves . Their gang leader was Edward Coleman and they formed

protection against coercion from other gangs (Jackson and McBride 1985). In the current study,
tattoos signify a number of different and personal matters, only one of which gang membership and a

others; some might be called the wannabes who move out of the influence of the gang on the basis of
whether or not a program of interest intercepts drawing them completely away from the gang. Within
the wannabes there are many little brothers and sisters, sometimes referred to as pee wees. However,
on separate and certain occasions they are sent home by their older siblings when something was
about to happen for which only older members were being mobilized. Moreover, I am going to go into

Jews. It is a solemn and holy time of the year. Starting on the first and second day of September or
October. This day is also known as the Day of Remembrance and the Day of Judgment. These days

Waste Trafficking Through Illegal Transnational Business
Waste trafficking refers to the traffic of hazardous wastes through illegal transnational business that
involves a variety of criminal groups such as private entities, corrupt government officials, and
organized crime groups (Liddick 134). According to environment professor Don Liddick, By the late
twentieth century transnational organized criminals, corporate polluters, and corrupt public officials
have discovered the means to profit from the traffic in household garbage, chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs), and even radioactive waste illicit industries that rival the international drug trade in scope and
profitability (Liddick 134). Waste is considered hazardous if it is explosive, reactive, flammable,

In order to have a better understanding of waste trafficking it is important to examine what facilitates
it, the links it has to organized crime groups, and what steps have been taken to counter it. There are
four factors that increase the likelihood of waste trafficking. The first factor is strict international
regulations. As regulations are implemented, new markets start to emerge. In 1991, for example, the
Bamako Convention imposed a ban on the import of hazardous waste into African, Pacific, and
Caribbean countries, but traffickers found alternative routes and destinations to Europe and China.

The Importance Of Human Nature In Cory Doctorow s Little...
Cory Doctorow s Little Brother is an excellent novel that combines technology and rebellion all into
one book. A group of teenagers living in San Francisco become prisoners of a terrorist attack
investigation when they are arrested and brought to an island by the Department of Homeland
Security. They are treated awfully despite not having committed a single crime. The main character,
Marcus, deems it is in his hands to take down the DHS and get revenge for what they ve done. The
Bay Bridge bombing and terrorist attack, the awful treatment of the characters by the DHS, and
Marcus good efforts to seek revenge, all have an impact on human nature. Doctorow s novel shows
how acts of conflict can expose the cruelty of human nature as they can inflict tremendous pain on the
vulnerable, but sometimes they can even cause a positive outcome. Organizing a terrorist attack
reveals one s true human nature simply by having created such a vicious and cruel conflict. Within the
beginning of the novel, the Bay Bridge in San Francisco was bombed and thousands of people got
injured and many died. Having said that, one can infer just by recognizing the situation at hand, that
the person who orchestrated the attack, was not in a positive mental state. Marcus, a character in the
novel said, Terrorists don t hate landmarks or bridges or airplanes. They just want to screw stuff up
and make people scared (Doctorow 73). Marcus emphasizes in this line that terrorists reveal their

Restorative Justice And Justice System
Restorative justice has some key restorative values that are vital in the restorative justice conference to
make the experience restorative . Concerning addressing victim needs and concerns means for
listening, respecting, being non judgmental, not blaming the victim and apologizing. The RJ system
was bought as an alternative to the criminal justice system to give greater emphasis on victim rights
and needs, offender accountability and community involvement. Throughout the essay, there will be
an insight into how Restorative Justice addresses needs of victims in terms of the different proponents
such as Information provided to victim, restitution/compensation, emotional and practical needs met,
participation and involvement of victim and protection of victim, which (Wemmers and Marisa, 2002)

had restorative justice built out of injustices and over representation of the current criminal justice

The traditional criminal justice system is criticized for its neglect of victim importance and needs, for
example (Symonds, 1980) acknowledges, that the criminal justice system is concerned about looking
back at the event rather than focusing on how to rehabilitate and as a consequence making victims be
in a secondary victimization effect. This is the attitudes, behaviors and the beliefs of the people in the

she is also recognized for contributing to nursing research, involvement in political activism, and for
her establishment to provide formal nursing education to pursing nurses (Cherry Jacob, 2014).
Nightingale s Environmental Adaptation Theory Florence Nightingale is very well known for

described that ventilation, warmth, noise, diet, light, chattering hopes, and cleanliness were the
standards of her theory (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 81). Nightingale stated, keeping the

The Pan Africanism For Beginners
The Pan African movement as described in Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners is a set of ideas
and ideologies containing social and cultural, political and economic, material and spiritual aspects.
Each aspect is accompanied by a plethora of historical figures and terms unique to the movement, well
described throughout the text and in the presented glossary. This book makes it easy to understand all
the information accompanying each topic. While it does have its strengths and weaknesses, this book
as a whole creates and explains a diverse scope of information. It describes the beginnings of Pan
Africanism and shows how the beliefs of many influential people have stemmed from notions and
dreams of years passed.
As a learning experience, Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners provides a strong broad base of
knowledge. Instead of concentrating on the specifics of Pan Africanism, this book covers a broad
range of aspects, from the Diaspora to Garveyism to the Harlem Renaissance. Because there are so
many people and movements associated with Pan Africanism, it is nearly impossible to go into detail
about every important event in one book. Even so, Lemelle does a good job at providing enough detail
on each topic, while still conveying how complex Pan Africanism is. By including many facets of Pan
Africanism, Lemelle is able to spark an interest in the reader so that they can continue onto more
specific research. For instance, when Lemelle explained the Conference of

Volcanoes are one of the most beautiful and yet destructive forces naturally occurring on our planet.
As the Earth s population continues to grow, more people move closer and closer to volcanoes.
Currently, an estimated 500 million people from Japan to Indonesia, and from Italy to Oregon, live
near active volcanoes. Each year, approximately 70 volcanoes will erupt, and usually at least once
every ten years, there will be a large volcanic eruption that puts the people living both near and far in

While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic
mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes through
fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure eruption.
Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a
wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure
will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack
or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure
from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is
called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be relatively small or very large. For example, the
Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000 square kilometers and extends over the states of
Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape America, n.d.).
Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have different
proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava (greater than 95%)
with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon State University, n.d.).
Other volcanoes may have more cinder ash than lava.

The first alternative addresses the organizational structure which best responds to the challenges faced
while the second alternative attempts to garner IBM s internal resources and external market

Alternative A: Organic Structure (internal focus on environmental considerations)
To answer the many external environmental factors affecting IBM s personal computer business they
must raise structural complexity and decentralize decision making through increasing the number of
departments and personnel which individually address such boundary spanning environmental points
as pricing, customer representation, and new technologies. Human resources must be effectively
utilized as key personnel must be recruited both quickly in the transformation and in the future.
A less hierarchical organizational approach will allow for relevant information flow between
departments through the use of design tools such as taskforces and committees which can provide vital
information to decision makers who can quickly react to the changing environmental demands. The
enhancement of useful environmental information will aid in more accurate planning and market

Munro offers us (the reader) a bouquet of stories in one: the narrator s escape from and longing for
both lover and husband; Charlotte and her husband Gjurdhi, who are somewhere between threats,
exemplars of surviving love and pathos (as Munro s late middle aged couples often are); the adventure
of Lottar and the Franciscan priest who helps her escape from what is both new home and prison; the
antagonistic mating dance between the bookstore owner and her new, odd friends, Charlotte and
Gjurdhi. (Bloom 1995) The change from one character s point of view or narrative to another is
changing the setting and mood of the story. The narrator is indirectly portraying her as they both
moved to British Columbia and opened a bookstore. It is like telling the story of three individuals with
relation to her own life. When Munro was asked once in an interview as to why she used both first and
third person, her reply was it allows you to move around a bit more, and it allows you to say things
about other characters (MacKendrick, 24). Munro s use of stories is one of her many forms of
conforming the different narratives and points of view together. She tells the story the way that she
sees it forming and lets the reader figure it out for themselves. In this story, the reader has to first
realize that the main story is not on the bookstore owner, but on Charlotte, the woman

The Role Of The Working Women
Professionalism and employment were once held as an allegation only for men. While men were
working, women were sought out to be innocent and compassionate housewives; only caring for their
homes and families rather than labouring. Throughout history the role of the working women has
progressed drastically, however, the dainty and caring presentation of a woman still remains to be a
flaw. This flaw has built the fundamental depiction of women in films and television, especially within

It would make sense, given the series of events leading to the Bubble Act of 1720, that Aislabie felt it
would help the South Sea scheme. However, the missing piece of the South Sea Bubble is Robert
Walpole. In 1720, Lady Cowper, in her diary, noted that the king needed £600,000 to pay off the Debts
of the Civil List. She noted that because, in the winter of 1720, Walpole did not win the contract to
take on the public debt for the Bank of England, his consolation prize was to get his way on how the

  • 2. Essay on Summary and Analysis of The Pardoner s Tale Summary and Analysis of The Pardoner s Tale (The Canterbury Tales) Prologue to the Pardoner s Tale: The Host thinks that the cause of Virginia s death in the previous tale was her beauty. To counter the sadness of the tale, the Host suggests that the Pardoner tell a lighter tale. The Pardoner delays, for he wants to finish his meal, but says that he shall tell a moral tale. He says that he will tell a tale with this moral: the love of money is the root of all evil. He claims that during his sermons he shows useless trifles that he passes off as saints relics. He proudly tells about how he defrauds people who believed they have sinned. He states explicitly that his goal is not to save people from sin, but to gain money from them. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he is one of the most developed characters, he is the character perhaps most defined by his profession. The Pardoner has substituted a system of values with a rote performance, which conforms to his profession, which substitutes a meaningless monetary transaction for penance for sin. The Pardoner therefore suggests a traditional Vice character who behaves strictly out of the most impure motives, but where he departs from vice characters, who shamelessly commit misdeeds for their own pleasure, is that he lacks the necessary amoral quality. The Pardoner is not a moral man, but he nevertheless has a moral system to which he most certainly does not adhere. The Pardoner s Tale: There once lived in Flanders a group of three rioters who did nothing but engage in irresponsible and sinful behavior. They were blasphemous drunkards who, while in a tavern one night, witnessed men carrying a corpse to its grave. A boy told the rioters that the dead man was one of their friends, slain by an unseen thief called Death. They remark that Death has slain thousands, and vow to slay Death themselves. The three drunken men go off to find Death, but only come across an ancient man shrouded in robes. He claims that Death will not take him, and says that they can find Death underneath a nearby oak tree. When they found the tree they only found bushels of gold. They decide to take the treasure and divide it evenly, but realize that if they immediate went ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. My Writing As An Inquiry I have gained a vast amount of knowledge and other skills during my semester in Writing as an inquiry . Not only were my writing skills improved, my understanding of rhetoric increased as well. This was done through teacher instruction, class participation, and assignments. Up to this point, I completed four projects in the semester. Each project being very different and improving my writing, rhetoric, communication skills, and testing my creativity. The first project that was assigned in the class was a Learning Narrative. The goal of this assignment was to write about a profound learning moment that occurred in my life. Another goal of this assignment was to expand my knowledge on rhetoric. This assignment was when I was first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lightbulb clicked and I decided to use Lifetime gym as my culture and a dumbbell as my artifact. The next step of this project was to compare my culture and artifact with another culture. The biggest obstacle I faced was having to be creative and think about how other people and cultures may view the dumbbell. It was difficult to pick just one certain group and try to hypothesis how they may view the dumbbell. I chose to think of how people of low income and countries in poverty may view the dumbbell. One of the main reasons, however, as to why not all countries can be as industrial productive as the U.S., is simply because it is materialistically impossible. The carrying capacity of the earth s natural resources cannot handle the consumption rate of the U.S. if it is applied to the rest of the world. If, for example, we note that the six percent of the world s population who live in the U.S. annually consume 25 percent (which we discussed in class) of all the oil energy produced, obviously, it is impossible for the rest of the world s population, of which 80 percent live in poor countries, to consume energy on that scale. Le Morte DArthur, And Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, and the Gawain Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are important works that should be considered when studying medieval literature. They both portray the style and structure of medieval romance. They also tackle the same topic of King Arthur and his knights, as well as share the same characters of King Arthur and Sir Gawain. In order to be able to go over these works and understand them, one must understand the aspects of literature of the time. There are some aspects found in almost all literary works written in the medieval times, some of which are influenced by everyday life, problems, religion, and politics. For example, the French invasion of England, known as the Norman Conquest, greatly influenced the language of the time. At first, England was ruled by the Anglo Saxons, and used Old English in their literature, even though they did not write much. With the invasion of the French, Anglo Saxon language was not considered appropriate, and so they introduce a new easier dialect, which came to be known as Middle English. This became the language they used to write, and the act of writing itself became more abundant. Moreover, the conquest resulted in an increasing tension between England and France. This tension is apparent in many works of the time, including Le Morte d Arthur . For example, the depiction of Sir Launcelot as the greatest knight of all time in several romances. It proclaims that criminals have moved to the United States and started a criminal organization here (Rogers, 2011). This theory is supported by the movie makers in America. Most movies on organized crime portray the leaders of the organization as foreigners. They walk, dress, and act a certain way. The alien conspiracy theory posits that organized crime gained prominence in the 1860s in Sicily and that Sicilian immigrants are responsible for the foundations of U.S. organized crime, which is made up of 25 or so Italian dominated crime families. Also known as the La Cosa Nostra, the families are composed of wise guys or made men and number about 1700 members (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007). This theory also suggests strong family bonds. Because each member is of the same nationality it is easier to influence him to join the organization. This is prevalent in organized crime. If one family member is a part of the organization, the outside influence and loyalty may be enough to coerce others into the business. Another theory applicable to criminal behavior is the rational choice theory. This theory occurs when people choose to commit a crime after weighing the benefits and consequences of the action. Another reason is that they believe during this time is when God judges their fate for the next year. So they use these days to overlook their life and repair their relationship with God. An important part of this day is to sound the Shofar, which is horn that is blasted in the book of Leviticus and Numbers. • 27. The Importance Of Human Nature In Cory Doctorow s Little... Cory Doctorow s Little Brother is an excellent novel that combines technology and rebellion all into one book. A group of teenagers living in San Francisco become prisoners of a terrorist attack investigation when they are arrested and brought to an island by the Department of Homeland Security. They are treated awfully despite not having committed a single crime. The main character, Marcus, deems it is in his hands to take down the DHS and get revenge for what they ve done. The Bay Bridge bombing and terrorist attack, the awful treatment of the characters by the DHS, and Marcus good efforts to seek revenge, all have an impact on human nature. Doctorow s novel shows how acts of conflict can expose the cruelty of human nature as they can inflict tremendous pain on the vulnerable, but sometimes they can even cause a positive outcome. Organizing a terrorist attack reveals one s true human nature simply by having created such a vicious and cruel conflict. Within the beginning of the novel, the Bay Bridge in San Francisco was bombed and thousands of people got injured and many died. Having said that, one can infer just by recognizing the situation at hand, that the person who orchestrated the attack, was not in a positive mental state. Marcus, a character in the novel said, Terrorists don t hate landmarks or bridges or airplanes. They just want to screw stuff up and make people scared (Doctorow 73). The RJ system was bought as an alternative to the criminal justice system to give greater emphasis on victim rights and needs, offender accountability and community involvement. Each aspect is accompanied by a plethora of historical figures and terms unique to the movement, well described throughout the text and in the presented glossary. This book makes it easy to understand all the information accompanying each topic. It describes the beginnings of Pan Africanism and shows how the beliefs of many influential people have stemmed from notions and dreams of years passed. As a learning experience, Lemelle s Pan Africanism for Beginners provides a strong broad base of knowledge. Instead of concentrating on the specifics of Pan Africanism, this book covers a broad range of aspects, from the Diaspora to Garveyism to the Harlem Renaissance. Because there are so many people and movements associated with Pan Africanism, it is nearly impossible to go into detail about every important event in one book. Even so, Lemelle does a good job at providing enough detail on each topic, while still conveying how complex Pan Africanism is. By including many facets of Pan Africanism, Lemelle is able to spark an interest in the reader so that they can continue onto more specific research. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While we typically think of the pressure being released in a dramatic eruption from a volcanic mountain that has been formed, the pressure can also be released as magma quietly escapes through fissures, or cracks within the ground near the volcano. This process is referred to as fissure eruption. Once the magma is released from the volcano, it is called lava. Fissure eruptions can occur over a wide area, but over a few hours or days, they typically become a central vent from which the pressure will continue to be released. Occasionally, lava will flow back into the ground by pouring into a crack or an open eruptive fissure, a process called drainback. Lava can also flow back into the same fissure from which it erupted (Krock, 2002). Regardless of where the lava flows, the change in the terrain is called a lava plateau. These lava plateaus can be relatively small or very large. For example, the Columbia plateau covers an area more than 150,000 square kilometers and extends over the states of Washington, Idaho and Oregon (Landscape America, n.d.). Two materials make up a volcanic eruption: lava and ash. However, each volcano can have different proportions of lava to ash. Volcanoes in Hawaii and the Galapagos are mostly lava (greater than 95%) with just a small (less than 5%) ash, typically in the form of cinder (Oregon State University, n.d.). Other volcanoes may have more cinder ash than lava. Are All Volcanoes the Same? Volcanoes come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Bloom 1995) The change from one character s point of view or narrative to another is changing the setting and mood of the story. The narrator is indirectly portraying her as they both moved to British Columbia and opened a bookstore. It is like telling the story of three individuals with relation to her own life. When Munro was asked once in an interview as to why she used both first and third person, her reply was it allows you to move around a bit more, and it allows you to say things about other characters (MacKendrick, 24). Munro s use of stories is one of her many forms of conforming the different narratives and points of view together. She tells the story the way that she sees it forming and lets the reader figure it out for themselves.
