The Effects Of Distributing Thalidomide On The Late 1950s
A little white pill, sold as an over the counter drug, lined the shelves of pharmacies across the globe.
Originating from the German drug company, Chemie Grütinethal, this pill was advertised to a highly
receptive international market and was a success in 1959. Several years later, physicians began to
form a link between phocomelia, a birth deformity, and pregnant woman who ingested the German
created drug. That little white pill is known as Thalidomide. Staying in the market for almost six
years, Thalidomide changed the lives of mothers and their newborns for the worse making it one of
the largest pharmaceutical failures in the course of mankind. Although the horrific effects of
distributing Thalidomide in the late 1950s is historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poisonous drug that had the ability to severely damage the anatomical structure of fetuses to the
point of death passed unnoticed for several years. The highly concentrated infant mortality toll is a
despairing loss of innocent life. Additionally, several hundred more babies from Australia, Great
Britain, Japan, and Canada were affected. The international widespread death magnified the tragedy,
adding salt to the wound. The immense death toll is considered an international failure because of the
shared infant death crisis. Since the distribution of Thalidomide caused thousands of premature infant
deaths, it can be classified as historically tragic. In addition to premature deaths, Thalidomide s
consumption in the early 1960s is also tragic in another way.
The unregulated sales of Thalidomide also caused emotional distress and hardship for the future lives
of mothers and their infants. The fatal drug s side effects were displayed in pregnant women s
newborn babies. Infants affected with Thalidomide were born with limb reduction anomalies,
congenital heart disease, ear malformations, and ocular abnormalities. The potential to live a long life
was inhibited by the handicapped ailments each infant received. This created a lot of health expenses
and difficulty obtaining an education. It is also very physically challenging to perform everyday tasks
causing many victims to often experience guilt and depression when realizing how unfortunate their

Factors Contributing to the Wound Healing Process Essay
Wound healing is a very important aspect of the postoperative process. Depending on many different
factors pertaining to a postoperative wound; different steps can be taken to decrease a patient s chance
to develop an infection. The one goal a surgical team wants to achieve is to leave a less noticeable scar
and no infection in a wound. There are different challenges and situations a Surgical Technologist and
the surgical will have to work around. The wound healing process all depends on the type of wound
and classification, complications that may arise, postoperative infections, and the role of the Surgical
Technologist within the wound healing process. There are four classes of surgical wound types based

143 157). Wound healing can have wide variety of complications.
The complication of wound dehiscence/wound separation occurs because of excessive stress on
wounds that have not yet healed. An example is coughing or vomiting without the use of abdominal
splinting over an incision. Wound evisceration is the most serious complication of wound dehiscence.
The wound completely separates, exposing underlying viscera. This most often occurs with abdominal
incisions. ( Wound healing , 2005, p. 143 157).
Hemorrhaging is also a big concern during postop because it can happen right after surgery and can
lead to hypovolemic shock. Those are a couple of example of what could go wrong postoperatively.
The risk of infection is always present with the occurrence of a surgical wound. Since our bodies are
covered with natural flora, opportunistic pathogen infection is always a concern. Infection can greatly
affect the recovery time for a patient. A surgical will not heal affectively when infection is present.
Surgical Technologist must be aware of the implications bestowed on them by being a part of a
surgical team. We must understand the importance of aseptic technique and surgical conscience. You
have to be knowledgeable of the surgery you are preforming, the procedures of that surgery, and the
complication that may arise. Wound healing plays an important part in how the postoperative

Social Recognition Skills
Daniel Goleman (Big Think, 2012) states that neuroplasticity the brain reshapes itself over repeated
experiences. Goleman suggests that practice, experience, and repeated exposure influences how
leaders grow over time. To effectively grow into an emotionally intelligent leader, I will need to
develop my executive functioning, social recognition, and social recognition skills. First, I need to
look for ways to increase my awareness of emotional responses, develop my executive functioning
skills, and managing my emotions more effectively. Caruso, Mayer, and Salovey (2002) suggest
facilitating emotions effectively through generating emotions that facilitate decision making, to use
mood swings as means to consider multiple points of view,

Essay about New Year Celeration Between Vietnam and America
New Year Holiday between the United States and Vietnam
New Years is an exciting holiday in many countries. It marks a new period of time with the pure and
pristine beginning for individuals. Every country has a unique cultural celebration and specific
traditions depending on where you live. However, there is a big difference between how Asian people
and Western people celebrate New Year. The three most noticeable differences are in the preparation,
travel and length of the holiday will be last. The first big different between those two countries is the
preparation for New Year Day. In the United States, they use the Gregorian calendar so people

In contrast, a Vietnamese tradition is that everybody goes back to their families and their hometowns.
People go back to help their family to clean the houses or together with their relative to make tradition
foods for the New Year Day. In addition, the period of New Year celebration between these two
countries is not the same. New Years in the United States only has two days to celebrate. People
celebrate on New Year s Eve and New Year s Day. After New Year Day, everything will be back to
normal, people are back to their work, and be ready for a new year ahead. However, the spirit of Tet in
Vietnamese people usually lasts more than a week, but the Tet official is the first three days of January
in lunar calendar. The first day of Tet is the day for family. People gather together to wish everybody
in the family the best year ahead; then elderly people give red envelops that have money inside to
younger people which is considering as lucky money. The second day is a day for visiting relative,
teacher or special guest. The third day is a day for friends or just stay at home to enjoy the food and
the spirit of Tet. Although Tet is only the first three days to celebrate; people are keep saying Happy
New Year when they see each other during the following week. The atmosphere of Tet is still inside
everybody. From the information given, New Year in each country has a unique celebration; especially

Case Study Chick-Fil-A
Introduction This case study will analyze the findings of my research on the general overview of
Chick fil A from conception to future projections all while analyzing the external environment ,
current strategies, and current objectives. Then I will detail some strategies that I would recommend if
I were the CEO and my reasoning. My research will also detail the competitive strategies used by the
company s main competitors and how Chick fil A could combat these strategies.
Chick fil A the Beginning Facts and History of Chick fil A (2016), noted how Chick fil A was founded
by Truett Cathy in the early 1960 s, after Mr. Cathy had opened a restaurant earlier, 1946, called
Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. Truett Cathy was not one to follow others in fact his determination
and vision led him to open the first restaurant inside a mall in 1967 making him a first mover, by
marketing the idea of combining food and shopping (first mover, business dictionary). The first mover
decision that Cathy made has established Chick fil A as one of the largest fast food Chicken industries

E Voting And Its Effect On Voting
Introduction
E voting is an e government concept that uses the Internet to allow people to vote. The use of e voting
is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in
shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a
vote to be present.
E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the
necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures
that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and
waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e
voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine
malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes.
The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new
type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. However, there is a portion of the population which
feels that the system can be easily manipulated and argue that the Internet is vulnerable to hacker
attacks, something that can lead to an invalid and unfair result. With advanced technology, it should be
relatively easy for IT experts to devise ways that will ensure that the system will not be hacked.

A New Product Line Of Cedar Dollhouses And The Ceo Of The...
Introduction The ABC Company is looking to add a new product line of cedar dollhouses and the
CEO of the company is trying to decide if it can be afforded. The purpose of this paper will be to
determine if the ABC Company can afford to add the new product line of cedar dollhouses. The paper
will discuss the cash flow of the business, risk factors involved in adding a new product line, and
possible depreciation. Finally, the paper will recommend whether the CEO is making a worthy
business decision.
Risk Analysis First we will discuss the overall risk profile of the company based on current economic
and industry issues. The economic issues the company may face includes a potential rise in raw
materials. This could make it difficult to determine the cost of production for one unit. Industry issues
the company may face include developing the new product and employee loss. The company has to
develop the new product which is a trial and error process; the market for this product may also be
filled causing the product to fail. The company also plans to use the same facility, equipment, and staff
which will definitely mean added expenses and a risk of losing employees.
Cash Flow Analysis A cash flow statement represents a compilation of all operating, investing, and
financing activities that cause a change in cash (Wainwright, 2012). The cash flow statement is
primarily used to get an idea of what the company s total financing and investing activities look like.

Walter Mitty Reflection
In the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, for me, it shows a very unique storyline that a film may
have. Personally, I think that it was interesting to watch this movie when one is about to feel down of

Why do I live on this Earth? Based on the motto of LIFE Magazine, I think that in every step that we
take, there are pros and cons that we may face. To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see

Analysis Of Before The Law By Jennifer Gonnerman
In Before The Law , an article written by Jennifer Gonnerman published in The New Yorker, the
dispiriting true story of a teen from the Bronx is used as a precedent to highlight the glaring problems
with New York City s criminal justice system. In May of 2010, sixteen year old Kalief Browder and
his friends were arrested on robbery charges after returning home from a party in the Bronx. The
ensuing events led him in and out of holding cells, granted him a bail of three thousand dollars (which
his family was unable to afford), and eventually led to him being transferred to the infamous Rikers
Island; Where, despite never being convicted of any crime (let alone receiving a fair trial), he was
imprisoned for nearly four years. Gonnerman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this includes Gonnerman describing Browder s realization that he was not going to be
released after his wrongful arrest, or detailing his feeling of panic as he was transported to Rikers on a
prison bus.
Gonnerman appeals to the logic of the reader by following Browder s anecdotes with supportive
statistics and investigative findings from reputable sources. She uses the citation of evidence to give
weight and help expand on the context of Browder s experiences. This includes the excerpts of
statistical information from studies, such as in 2011 seventy four percent of felony cases in the Bronx
were older than six months , which reinforces Browder s personal experience with the Bronx court
system and also clearly indicates that Browder s circumstance is not an uncommon one. This also
includes the citation of the court index card s text, reading the list of the preposterous amount of
delays requested by the prosecutor, which provides tangible and explicit evidence to the reader of the
dysfunctionality of the Bronx s court system, and also helps the reader empathize with Browder s
frustration.
Perhaps the most powerful of these appeals to logic would be the citation of the Sixth Amendment of

Jedda s Influence On Australian Popular Culture
After the end of WW2 there was an increase in wealth for many Australians. This meant that
Australians were able to afford more entertainment products, which resulted in the introduction of
televisions. Australia was a growing community and there was a quest for Australian identity. (Wiliam,
S, 2016)
Before the introduction of television and during World War 2, radio was Australia s most popular form
of entertainment. This is likely because at the end of the 1950s, radios became more accessible. In
1955, approximately 97% of Australian homes owned a radio set. In the evenings families would
gather together to listen to many programs on the radio. The radio in this time consisted of many
shows including music, drama, entertainment and quiz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The introduction of television was greeted with great excitement by most Australians in the 1950s, but
some of society was opposed against the idea of televisions. This was because some people believed
that television would allow Australia to become over run by American culture, thus threatening the
development of the Australian identity. (Wiliam, S, 2016). The amount of American shows that were
broadcast in Australia at the time would have given people these views about Australian culture.
Eventually, many of our British cultural legacies would give way to new American ideals. (Wiliam, S.
2016). Some of the people thought that the American influence would impact Australia s ability to
carve out its own national identity. (Wiliam, S. 2016). Other people of the time that were opposed to
the idea of televisions believed that the content on televisions was superficial and unsophisticated and
contained no educational or cultural benefits.(Wiliam, S, 2016) This left people concerned that
television would encourage people to become less active in the

The Fall Of The Roman Empire Summary
In the book The Fall of the Roman Empire the author Peter Heather talks about the ways the Roman
empire conquered the many territories surrounding them and how strong of an empire the Roman
empire was. He also talks about the build up all the events that causes the empire to fall. Peter also
talks about the people that helped or was involved with the build up or the collapse of the Roman
empire. Peter Heather mainly wrote this book to speak of how the European barbarians that got turned
into enemies through imperialism and that these Barbarians were capable of tearing apart an empire
that ruled over them for many of years.Peter also, mentions all the battles and build ups that occurred
throughout the Barbarians reign of power and speaks mainly of the battles that they went through.
Peters argument is that the empire did not collapse because of social or moral collapse but he believes
that the empire fell because of the Barbarians. There was many events that occurred in The Fall of the
Roman Empire. Peter Heath speaks of many Hunnic battles, because Heather is trying to explain how
military strategical the Huns are and he also talks about the battles because the Huns begin to become
an issue with Roman Empire, he also speaks of these battles because they have such a large effect on
the collapse of the Roman Empire. Peter speaks of the Battle of Hadrianople, this battle was when the
Goths defeated their first Roman army and this is what made the Goths realize that they

Use of Tone, Irony and Humor in The Hammon and the Beans
Ernest Hemingway once explained, A writer s problem does not change. He himself changes and the
world he lives in changes but his problem remains the same. It is always how to write truly and having
found what is true, to project it in such a way that it becomes a part of the experience of the person
who reads it. The attitude and projection with which the author creates a story is the tone. A difficult
aspect of writing to master, tone is one that transitions a piece of writing from satisfactory to
exemplary. In The Hammon and the Beans, Americo Paredes incorporates tone in a manner that

The second purpose for the inclusion of contradictory statements is to enlighten the reader about the
narrator s emotions versus those of other characters. The impression the reader obtains of how the
narrator views the house and setting is predominantly positive, while the opinion his mother has of the
house is severely negative. My mother hated it, especially because of the pigeons that cooed all day
about the eaves. They had fleas, she said (p.274). The tone of opposition created by presenting both
positive and negative aspects of the ideas in the story, enables the reader to gain a clear image of the
setting, and to examine both sides of the story.
Similar to the way in which two sides are presented to form opposition in the story, two groups of
characters create irony. It is ironic that the soldiers who inhabit Jonesville on the Grande take little or
no notice of the other residents, while the townspeople consider the soldiers a major part of their lives,
and even base their schedules on that of the nearby military post. But whether we taunted or saluted,
the distant men in khaki uniforms went about their motions without noticing us at all, is an expression
of disappointment made by the narrator (p. 275). The sadness the children feel is ironic when it is
paired with the idea that the soldiers exhibit no emotions. The soldiers are both oblivious to and
uncaring about their influence on the

course readings and class lectures to real life group work. MAB was observed on October 14, 2015, at

Unitarian Church of Orlando on East Robinson Street and was led by one facilitator. MAB and the
facilitator showed deviations from the normal group practices discussed in the class of Group
Dynamics and Process. However, some familiar therapeutic factors such as Instillation of Hope,
Imitative Behavior, Universality, Group Cohesiveness, and Catharsis were evident in the group s
dynamics. The observation techniques included the point of view of an observer, a hypothetical point
of view as facilitator, and the observer s reaction. Together, these observations suggest that even

Kristallnacht, also known as the Night of Broken Glass, was a night of organized violent assault on the
Jews on November 9, 1938. Although it appeared to be a spontaneous response to a Jewish teenager s
assassination of a German ambassador in Paris, this event was, in fact, a thoroughly organized attack
on the Jews. As the name of the incident suggests, two day long violent outbreak was detrimental. Not
only were Sturmabteilung set loose to ransacking Jewish stores and homes, civilians also participated
in the series of attacks against the Jews. Over 250 synagogues were targeted; they were destructed,
burned, and vandalized. Moreover, over 7,000 businesses were shattered. Plundered Jewish owned
properties were often redistributed to German citizens. During this massive coordinated attack,
approximately 100 Jews were killed, and approximately 30,000 Jews were sent to concentration
camps, such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. Although brutally treated, the prisoners
were released if they could prove that they were able to emigrate. However, an estimate of 1,000 Jews
ended up dying. After Kristallnacht, Jews clearly became social outcasts; they were aggressively
dissimilated from the society, marginalized from economic interactions, and persecuted from political
activities. Anti Semitism rose

While feminism has come a long ways in today s society, there are still many subtle details that
showcase how women are still oppressed in a patriarchal system. Even women, like Alyssa, that are
confident in themselves can still be influenced by others and change their minds, not always staying

seen as an achievement and a boost to their ego. They want the reassurance and the desire to feel

The Yorkshire Canal And The Industrial Revolution
Imagine looking outside your bedroom window in the morning smelling the bacon and eggs your
mom made you. You are peering out the window and witnessing the Yorkshire Canal being made. You
suddenly comprehend that the culture around you will be changing. It will lead to new innovations and
opportunities. The first canal ever made in Yorkshire England in 1700, (Canal Cruise). The canal was
advancing the Industrial Revolution by making it more accessible to get around.
First and foremost the canal helped progress the industrial revolution by making coastal trade faster.
Moving heavy goods at sea along the coast of Britain was much cheaper than moving the same items
along the road network, and coastal trade was a key aspect of Britain s economy, (Shirley Burchill).
Coastal trade was the cheapest way to transit goods, but it was also very slow. Between 1650 and
1750, before the industrial revolution half, a million tonnes of a canal was moved from Newcastle in
the north to London in the south, (Shirley Burchill). Therefore since the canal was a man made water
it caused coastal trade to be able to transport goods from the north to the south of England. The type of
goods transported was brick, coal, and iron, (The Industrial Revolution and the changing face of
Britain). Moreover, bricks were used for many things, such as for houses, barriers, and tombs. Bricks
were very important in the society because when they ran out of stones there ultimate result was

The Bermuda triangle, or the devil s triangle, is an imaginary area located off the southeastern Atlantic
coast of the United States. It is the greatest modern mystery of our supposedly well understood world.
It is noted for a very high incidence of unexplained losses of ships, small boats, and aircraft. The tips
of the triangle are generally thought to be Bermuda, Miami, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Many
theories attempting to explain the many disappearances have been offered throughout the history of
the area. The most practical seem to be environmental and those that involve human error. Some

Apparently Taylor had become confused at some point in the flight. He was an experienced pilot, but
hadn t spent a lot of time flying east toward the Bahamas, which was where he was going on that day.
For some reason Taylor thought the flight had started out in the wrong direction and had headed south
toward the Keys, instead of east. By 4:45 P.M. it was obvious to the people on the ground that Taylor
was hopelessly lost. He was urged to turn control of the flight over to one of his students, but
apparently he didn t. As it grew dark, communications disappeared. From the few words that did get
through it was apparent Taylor was still flying north and east, the wrong directions. Later on a Dumbo

Ian Fleming Research Paper
Ian Fleming and On Her Majesty s Secret Service
You can always tell the power of an incredible artist by the amount of people influenced by their
work. Ian Fleming s works have touched people from all ages, from children to the elderly, he has a
book that could entertain them all. Risk Taking is common theme that comes up in many, if not most
of his novels. By looking at On Her Majesty s Secret Service, one can see that Ian Fleming included
the theme of risk taking because he himself enjoyed and experienced plenty of this in his own life.
Ian Fleming was born to Valentine and Eve Fleming on May 28, 1908. Valentine Fleming was the
oldest child of Robert Fleming, a successful investment banker, who came from a modest background.

Throughout Fleming s life and bonds adventure in On Her Majesty s Secret Service, they experienced
risk taking in 2 different places: work and women. James bonds line of duty, in itself was risky. He
was an international spy who tracked down villains and lived on the edge or in hiding a majority of his
life. Ian Fleming s line of work, while not as dangerous, was risky in different ways. He bounced
around for a while trying to find where he belonged, and then he found the perfect fit in the Naval
Intelligence Agency. He got to be a part of large operations and put together many different ideas. He
traveled the world, shadowing his boss, Admiral John Godfrey. Getting into that line of work is risky
in itself, but pursing all the missions that he got to go in was an incredible experience. So much of
what he saw and experienced in his role at the NID found its way into the James Bond novels

Maximizing Student Engagement
It is important to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of any learning or training program to ensure
that the goals or objectives can successfully be met. Evaluation of the merits of a learning or training
program are embedded into all of the phases of ADDIE. Evaluation of a course can happen in several
different ways reflective analysis, garnering learner feedback, using formative and summative
assessment materials to judge effectiveness of learners are having with the materials and content. This
paper will discuss feedback I ve received regarding the creation of my online course: Maximizing
Student Engagement.
Survey Results and Future Considerations I created a five point Likert scale survey based on the Sloan

The majority of her feedback centered on the lack of alignment between some of my course activities
and existing district protocol and procedures particularly regarding discussion. It is the current
practice of the district to offer a fully asynchronous learning environment in which there is no
interaction or discussion between participants. Participants only interact with the content and the
instructor (via feedback on assignments and discussion prompts). One can perhaps make the
assumption that this is done in an attempt to make the online learning courses accommodating for
busy educators. However, current research suggests that offering participants a combination of
discussion approaches (student to student, student instructor and student content) is advantageous
(Nandi, Hamilton Harland, 2012). By offering only one or two modes, learners could potentially be

Statistic Case Study for Bottle Company
Investigating Bottling Company Case Study T.P University Statistics Mat 300 Mr. Thevar December
01, 2013 Investigating Bottling Company Case Study The case study that is being investigated is for a
bottling company producing less soda than what is advertised. Customers have complained that the
sodas in the bottles contain less than the advertised sixteen ounces. The employees at the company
have measured the amount of soda contained in each bottle. There are thirty bottles that have been
pulled from the shelves. The manager of the company would like to have a detailed report on the
possible causes, if any, for the shortage in the amount of soda or if the claim is not supported explain

To verify the claim that the bottles contain less than sixteen ounces of soda a hypothesis test will be
performed. To find the null hypothesis that represents the claim to be true or to be used as a basis of
argument until it is proven. The null hypothesis is H0 greater than or equal to sixteen ounces. The
alternative hypothesis is H1 less than sixteen ounces. The type of test used is one tailed testing. If
using a significance level of .05, a one tailed test allots the entire alpha to testing the statistical
significance in the one direction of interest. This means that .05 is in one tail of the distribution test
statistic. When using a one tailed test, it is testing for the possibility of the relationship in one direction
and completely disregarding the possibility of a relationship in the other direction ( UCLA: Statistical
Consulting Group, 2007). The value of the test is calculated by the mean 1 minus mean 2. Therefore,
14.87 16 equals 1.13 divided by standard deviation 0.55 divided by square root of random sample 30
equals .375. The P value is calculated by using the formula P (Z equal to .375). The P value is 0.646.
The P value is greater than the significance level of test which is .05. The answer is the mean of 0.5
0.646. The conclusion of the test for the null hypothesis is not rejected. This suggests the alternative
hypothesis must be true that the soda in the bottles is less than sixteen ounces. The type of error

Why Eddie Van Halen is an Influential Musician Essay
There are certain musicians that come along that shift a culture, attitude, or future musicians. Another
musician that went on influence future generations and considered one of the greatest guitar players in
the world is Eddie Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen was born in Holland in 1955 and immigrated to
Pasadena California. At the age of seven, Eddie was training as a classical pianist, although his love
for Rock and Roll was developing. He started working a paper route and used the money to buy a
drum set. His brother Alex, also musically inclined, bought a guitar. After months of practicing, Alex
and Eddie switched instruments. Alex would spend hours on Eddie s drums and loved to play them.
Eddie, a little frustrated with the drums, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A little later, Eddie heard Michael Anthony on the bass and thought that he was perfect for their band.
Still, something was missing; Alex thought they needed a front man. He suggested that they let David
Lee Roth be the front man, mainly to save the rent money on the PA system. David Lee came on board
and thought the brother s last name sounded cool, and the rock group Van Halen was born. On one
particular show, Gene Simmons from Kiss caught Van Halen at the local gig. He offered to help them
out. Gene Simmons flew Van Halen to New York to tape a demo and introduced them to the Kiss
production management. They had no interest in Van Halen citing that there was no commercial value
to Van Halen, so the band went back to their local gigs in California. During a show in Hollywood,
Warner Brothers records representative Ted Templeman saw their act and signed them less than a
week later for a record deal with the Warner brother s label. They headed out on the road immediately
and caught up with Warner Brothers headliners to open their shows. The other groups were not very
pleased with the band, especially when Van Halen started getting better reviews. Van Halen was then
off to England to open for another band that Eddie idolized, Black Sabbath. Ozzie was so impressed
with the band that he admitted that Van Halen was outplaying Sabbath. At least that is what Ozzie said
according to the Van Halen camp.
Van Halen went on to record 26 albums in their career with

A Positive Parent And Child Relationship
A positive parent and child relationship is the main foundation for children s knowledge. With parents
and their sensitive, responsive, and predictable caring towards young children, it helps develop
children s skills they need to succeed in their lifetime. Likewise early parent child relationships have
powerful effects on children s emotional well being. Through these exchanges children learn skills
they need to engage with other children as well as adapt in different types of environments. Children
eventually learn how to manage their emotions, and behaviors in addition they establish healthy
relationships with adults and peers. This would eventually lead children to learn how to adjust to new
situations and to resolve conflicts. When parents have warm, trusting, and reliable relationships with
peers as well as their families, community members, and service providers, they are more likely to
have positive relationships with their children. To work towards Positive Parent Child Relationships
Outcome, social providers and programs can provide emotional and concrete support to parents, as
well as respecting diverse parenting styles, value cultural differences and home languages it helps
reinforce the importance of fathers and other co parents. By Parents connecting and socializing with

The Nature Of Modern Corporations
In 1868, the 14th amendment to the constitution officially declared those born on U.S soil citizens of
the state, and forbade the states to deny any person the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
(Berger). This amendment, originally created for newly freed African American slaves as a means to
declare them as equal individuals under the law, has somehow been manipulated as a tool for large
corporations (The Corporation). The Corporation, a 2003 documentary written by law professor Joel
Bakan, examines the pathological character of modern corporations. The documentary analyzes the
behaviors and economic influence of many common North American corporations such as Nike Inc.,
Coca Cola Co. and Sears Co and the increasing awareness of the harm many of these corporations are
causing both locally and nationally. The Corporation pleads it s viewers to recognize lack of social
responsibility, and hold modern corporation s accountable for their actions (Bansal).
Noam Chomsky describes the corporation as designed by law to be only concerned for their stock
holder as opposed to the community it serves (The Corporation). As corporations are legally
considered individuals , it raises the question; What kind of person are they? The Corporation suggests
that corporations can be analyzed as individuals similarly to how a psychiatrist would analyze and
form a diagnosis for his/her patient. Studying specific case histories certain corporations in

Analysis Of The Storm By Kate Chopin
Kate Chopin s The Storm : Trouble on the Horizon
The Storm by Kate Chopin melds the theme of romantic love with those of rebellion and conformity.
In the story, Chopin gives readers an account of a meteorological disturbance that sweeps through a
town leaving a family to seek shelter until the storms passing. The wife of the story Calixta is at the
family s home while her husband Bobint and child Bibi are seeking refuge at Friedheimer s store. Bibi
is deeply concerned for his mother s safety and begins to question and seek reassurance for Calixta
from his father. Bibi implores by saying, Mama ll be fraid, yes, he suggested with blinking eyes (1).
His father attempts to reassure him by saying She ll shut the house. Maybe she got Sylvie helpin her

unwavering confidence for Calixta s safety. While readers are preoccupied with the storm and the
uncertainty it holds, Kate Chopin begins to scribe an unending metaphor that carries the entire plot of
the story. Calixta goes out to gather Bobint s Sunday clothes before the rain starts and to her surprise
Alce Laballire comes riding up. Calixta is nervous with Alce in the house, she stands at the window
gazing out while making small talk with him. Lightning strikes and Calixta grabs her eyes and
stumbles backwards where Alce s arms are waiting. The tension between the two has been building,

Bruce Springsteen s Life And Accomplishments
Bruce Springsteen grew up in Freehold Borough, New Jersey. He was raised in what you would call a
working class household. His mother, Adele, worked as a secretary in a local insurance office and
brought in way more money than his father, Doug, did. Doug worked any job he could really get his
hands on to help out with the family, but he had trouble all throughout his life with holding down a
steady job. What nobody knew is that this environment was molding a little boy into the rock star
sensation that everybody would grow to love.
Springsteen was born in 1949 at Monmouth Medical Center, on the twenty third of September, in
Long Branch, New Jersey. He was taken home to Freehold Borough where he would spend his
childhood years. This would also be the town where he got his high school diploma at Freehold
Borough High School, however this is not where he began his education. He originally began his
education at St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. He was brought up Catholic because his parents were

However, by the late 1980s and early 1990s, behavioral researchers like Paul Salkovskis and Jack
Rachman were advocating a more integrative theory and treatment of OCD, an approach that
amalgamated the behavioral treatment of OCD with Beck s (1976) cognitive theory of emotional
disorders. From these two theoretical perspectives on clinical disorders, a new cognitive behavioral
approach to obsessions and compulsions was born. In many respects, my own professional
development has taken a path similar to that seen in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for
obsessional states. My roots are in the behavioral tradition, dating back to the early 1980s when I was
a graduate student at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, England. My interest in OCD and
unwanted intrusive thoughts was sparked by the stimulating discussions and innovative research of the
clinical faculty, most notably Jack Rachman and Padmal de Silva. My doctoral thesis on the
psychophysiology of mental control and unwanted intrusive thoughts was an outgrowth of their
insights into the pathology of obsessional thought. vii viii Preface In the late 1980s, I was introduced
to the cognitive perspective on clinical disorders by Aaron T. Beck. I was privileged to spend a few
months at the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Philadelphia, where I received training in Beck s
therapy approach. Over the last 15 years I have

Those countries have shown working alternative ways of how to separate powers over the legislative

that of Canada and so does the United States of America. Those two countries have been very

The Bundesrat is a body within the German government that represents the interests of the individual
states and thus acts as a link between the Federation and the federal states. The Bundesrat is made up
of appointed representatives of the federal state government with each state given a certain amount of
votes in regards to their population. In total there are 69 seats with each Lander given between three to
six seats. (Reuter 2009, pg. 17) The Bundesrat democratic legitimacy comes from the fact that its state
governments are elected and thus those appointed to the Bundesrat were theoretically chosen by the
people. Thus to be a member of the Bundesrat the person must have a role in the government at the
federal state level. The Bundesrat does not need to pass every bill, but rather is only required to
provide approval to bills if they directly affect the Lander and currently almost 50% of all bills passed
need the approval of the Bundesrat. (U.S. Library of Congress) The Bundesrat can reject appeal laws
to Federal matters, but the Bundestag can overrule those objections by having the same majority as in
the Bundesrat who rejected it. Review and discussion over the proposals submitted by the Federal
government are two of the Bundesrat s main responsibilities which portray its checks and balances
role in the federal government. If an agreement can not be made between the two chambers, then a
Joint Conference Committee is created to resolve any differences and create a bill that has been passed
by a majority in each chamber. The Bundesrat has a total of 16 committees who are are given certain
undertakings in regards to their areas of knowledge and experience. (Reuter 2009, pg. 25) The
Bundesrat only has six weeks to consider a bill so the work in the Bundesrat is generally done

Wind and Waves
WIND:
 Winds are caused by differences in air pressure.
 They move from areas of high pressure to low pressure.
 Differences in air pressure are caused by unequal heating of the atmosphere.
 Cool air has higher air pressure so it flows underneath the warm, less dense air.
 Winds that blow over short distances and are caused by unequal heating of Earth s surface within a
small area.
Waves
 Waves start in the open ocean
 The size of a wave depends on the strength of the wind, the length of time that it blows, and the
distance over which it blows
 Waves move energy, not water. The water in a wave does not actually move forward, just the energy
generated by the wind.

 When the water reaches the equator, it warms and rises again.
 Deep currents flow slowly. They may take as long as 1,000 years to flow from pole to equator and
back again.
TIDES:
 Tides are the daily rise and fall of Earth s waters on its coastlines
 When water on the coast reaches its highest point it is high tide.
 When water on the coast reaches its lowest point it is low tide.
 Unlike surface waves, tides are regular and do not depend on wind. If not wind, then what causes
tides?
 Tides are caused by the interaction between the Earth, the moon, and the sun.
 The gravity exerted on Earth s oceans by the moon and the sun cause the water to move from one
side of the planet to the other side.
 The moon is much closer to the Earth than the sun, so it exerts a greater gravitational effect on the
tides.
 There are two high tides and two low tides about every 25 hours.
 That means every six or so hours you have a high tide and then a bit
 more than six hours later you have a low tide.

Time Management Issues Essay
Time Management Issues How often do you hear the words time management ? In the last few years,
these words are progressively touching the lives each of us. Each of us in a professional or personal
life has a huge amount of things that need to be done. Time management helps us to organize and plan
our daily activities, such as job projects or homework assignments. Having the time management
skills can help you become more effective and successful person.
The first possible solution to the problem of time management issues is start becoming a more
organized person. Is it achievable to become an organized person? I would say yes. It is a great skill
that you can learn, just like you learn how to drive a car. At first time it is difficult, but each time it
turns easier, like you always knew how to drive a car. The same way with the organization skills. Of
course organization takes time, but when you will get it like your habit, your life becomes really
easier. First of all, you should keep everything in its place. Whether it s your home or your office, you
need to be able to find everything what you want quickly. For example, your study binder. How often
do you have distress looking for one specific paper inside your binder? One year ago I had a problem
like that and it took me a long time to find something. Now, it takes me about 10 seconds because I am

The Dangers of MDMA Essay

in research efforts to determine the short and long term physical and neurological risks that are
associated with the drug. It has been discovered that Ecstasy is one of the most dangerous drugs
currently available on the streets of America. It poses serious risks to its users both psychically and

Another study, titled Monitoring the Future, conducted research to compare the change in the amount
of Ecstasy being used by High School students in 1999 and 2000. Results showed that Ecstasy use
increased from 1.7 percent to 3.1 percent among 8th graders, from 4.4 percent to 5.4 percent among
10th graders, and from 5.6 percent to 8.2 percent among 12th graders (MDMA 2). A study conducted
by the Community Epidemology Work Group (CEWG) has also reported that MDMA is the most
prominent stimulant used in Chicago, and it is the drug of choice among white middle class young
adults in Washington D.C.. The most startling fact, however, is that tablets seized by the Drug
Enforcement Administration has increased from 13,342 in 1996 to 949,257 in 2000 (MDMA 2). An
increase of this magnitude in such a short amount of time has researchers worried, and scrambling to

is defined as being a synthetic psychoactive drug with both stimulant (amphetamine like) and
hallucinogenic (LSD like) properties (MDMA 1). MDMA is similar to amphetamines in respect to
physiological symptoms induced by the drug, including increased heart rate and blood pressure,

If there is a death in your immediate or extended family, you get to use this leave, however, if it is a
pet you are not entitled to it. No matter who dies in your family, it is always hard on a person, even if
you weren t that close to the deceased, it is still hard. What about the pet that is there every day to
greet you, who still loves you no matter what you do. Does this mean that you will feel less pain if
your pet is the deceased? Wouldn t it be better all round, if an employee knows that they can grieve for
their four legged fur baby, without worrying about work, instead of coming to work and breaking
down at their desk, and possibly get no work done? It is also possible that a colleague will console you
which means both of you don t get much work done. Wouldn t it be more beneficial for the Employer,
if bereavement was given in these circumstances? Kimpton Hotels Restaurants, San Francisco leads
the way by offering a three day pet bereavement leave to its employees (2)
There could be many ways that people may try and milk the system which could be a reason why this
is a topic of debate but, if the animals are family members, then there is reason to believe that owners
should have just as much right to use their sick leave for their ailing pet, and bereavement leave for
their deceased. Fact is that losing a beloved pet is no different to losing a child or close relative.

Tax estimates vary greatly, depending upon whom you ask. According to The Ohio Department of
Taxation, the marijuana business would bring in anywhere from $133 million to $300 million in tax
revenue annually. The department explained that such a large range exists in their estimate because it
is still uncertain how much legal pot sales will replace illegal pot sales. This is due to the fact that
illegal sales are part of the shadow economy, which is difficult to estimate. In response,
ResponsibleOhio claimed that the Department of Taxation made a gross underestimation, saying that
the pot industry would instead create $554 million in tax revenue annually. The PAC claims that this
disparity is due to the Department of Taxation not looking at federal usage data when making their

Introduction
Ventria is a biotechnology firm that developed a process to produce pharmaceutical proteins in the
seeds of rice (Lawrence amp; Weber, 2011). Ventria was a small start up company that received
funding from venture capital. Ventria believed that its first product would be well received since it was
a medicine that would lessen the severity of diarrhea in children (Lawrence amp; Weber, 2011). Plant
made medicines could be developed much cheaper than using mammalian or microbial cell cultures.

Social Well being
The implication of non compliance to the social well being is extremely great. If a biotech company
has a product that is needed by humans then non compliance could delay or terminate this product
before it can do any public good. Compliance on the other had will allow the company to produce
many worthwhile products that may lessen human suffering and provide a safer, healthier society.
Recommendations
Ventria should consider the following recommendations to help ensure their future success. 1. Seek
additional private sector funding 2. Initiate safe, non environmentally threatening products that can
come to market relatively sooner than other projects. 3. Realign goals and objectives to fit more with
what will appeal to investors 4. Design an internal quality assurance team that would have standards
as high as regulatory agencies.
Ventria must not allow initial setbacks in the early years of their existence to dictate their future
success. Many companies do not usually succeed after only two years (Lawrence amp; Weber, 2011).
They must allow the network of industry organization serve as mentors and partners to get them to the
next level of research and later success.

Knowledge focused triggers come from staff when they read research, attend research conferences, or
experience evidence based practice guidelines that is published by federal or specialty organizations
(LoBiondo Wood Haber, 2014). You must form a team that is responsible for establishing,
implementing, and evaluating the evidence based practice topic. Research and literature on the topic
must be retrieved. The evidence on the new practice must be graded to justify the effectiveness of the
body of evidence. Within my workplace, the first step to implementing a new practice is a needs
assessment, whether it be metric or a process based on data or outcome. After this has been completed
a research path is the next step. This is based on research team or a governing body that gives approval
or not for implementation of a new practice. Process or procedural change goes through several
different councils. Literature to Support New Practice When trying to implement a new practice, there
are several tools that must be considered to use. First, you must ask a focused clinical question,
searching literature is another important component, screening your findings, appraising each article s
findings, and applying the findings. There are many different types of articles, such as: diagnosis
articles, prognosis articles, harm articles, and meta analysis articles. Having the appropriate literature

  • 2. The Effects Of Distributing Thalidomide On The Late 1950s A little white pill, sold as an over the counter drug, lined the shelves of pharmacies across the globe. Originating from the German drug company, Chemie Grütinethal, this pill was advertised to a highly receptive international market and was a success in 1959. Several years later, physicians began to form a link between phocomelia, a birth deformity, and pregnant woman who ingested the German created drug. That little white pill is known as Thalidomide. The international widespread death magnified the tragedy, adding salt to the wound. The immense death toll is considered an international failure because of the shared infant death crisis. Since the distribution of Thalidomide caused thousands of premature infant deaths, it can be classified as historically tragic. In addition to premature deaths, Thalidomide s consumption in the early 1960s is also tragic in another way. The unregulated sales of Thalidomide also caused emotional distress and hardship for the future lives of mothers and their infants. The fatal drug s side effects were displayed in pregnant women s newborn babies. Infants affected with Thalidomide were born with limb reduction anomalies, congenital heart disease, ear malformations, and ocular abnormalities. The potential to live a long life was inhibited by the handicapped ailments each infant received. This created a lot of health expenses and difficulty obtaining an education. The wound completely separates, exposing underlying viscera. This most often occurs with abdominal incisions. ( Wound healing , 2005, p. 143 157). Hemorrhaging is also a big concern during postop because it can happen right after surgery and can lead to hypovolemic shock. Those are a couple of example of what could go wrong postoperatively. The use of e voting is usually applied by countries and companies. In companies, this use of e voting can be used in shareholder meetings or other instances where it is not physically possible for all individuals with a vote to be present. E voting is a new concept that has recently been used by countries that are not willing to dedicate the necessary funds to provide paper votes. The use of e voting eliminates the use of paper and ensures that voter turnout will be higher as it will eliminate issues with travelling to the voting venue and waiting in any lines that may occur. In addition, the process of tallying votes will be far faster since e voting will eliminate the manual counting of votes as well as issues such as the vote counting machine malfunctioning. E votes will be counted using software designed to tally votes. The concept of e voting has been analyzed to ensure that it is a fair process. The fairness of this new type of voting will be critical to its acceptance. In May of 2010, sixteen year old Kalief Browder and his friends were arrested on robbery charges after returning home from a party in the Bronx. The ensuing events led him in and out of holding cells, granted him a bail of three thousand dollars (which his family was unable to afford), and eventually led to him being transferred to the infamous Rikers Island; Where, despite never being convicted of any crime (let alone receiving a fair trial), he was imprisoned for nearly four years. She uses the citation of evidence to give weight and help expand on the context of Browder s experiences. This includes the excerpts of statistical information from studies, such as in 2011 seventy four percent of felony cases in the Bronx were older than six months , which reinforces Browder s personal experience with the Bronx court system and also clearly indicates that Browder s circumstance is not an uncommon one. This also includes the citation of the court index card s text, reading the list of the preposterous amount of delays requested by the prosecutor, which provides tangible and explicit evidence to the reader of the dysfunctionality of the Bronx s court system, and also helps the reader empathize with Browder s frustration. It is the current practice of the district to offer a fully asynchronous learning environment in which there is no interaction or discussion between participants. One can perhaps make the assumption that this is done in an attempt to make the online learning courses accommodating for busy educators. However, current research suggests that offering participants a combination of discussion approaches (student to student, student instructor and student content) is advantageous (Nandi, Hamilton Harland, 2012). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To verify the claim that the bottles contain less than sixteen ounces of soda a hypothesis test will be performed. To find the null hypothesis that represents the claim to be true or to be used as a basis of argument until it is proven. The null hypothesis is H0 greater than or equal to sixteen ounces. The alternative hypothesis is H1 less than sixteen ounces. The type of test used is one tailed testing. If using a significance level of .05, a one tailed test allots the entire alpha to testing the statistical significance in the one direction of interest. This means that .05 is in one tail of the distribution test statistic. When using a one tailed test, it is testing for the possibility of the relationship in one direction and completely disregarding the possibility of a relationship in the other direction ( UCLA: Statistical Consulting Group, 2007). The value of the test is calculated by the mean 1 minus mean 2. Therefore, 14.87 16 equals 1.13 divided by standard deviation 0.55 divided by square root of random sample 30 equals .375. The P value is calculated by using the formula P (Z equal to .375). The P value is 0.646. The P value is greater than the significance level of test which is .05. The answer is the mean of 0.5 0.646. The conclusion of the test for the null hypothesis is not rejected. This suggests the alternative hypothesis must be true that the soda in the bottles is less than sixteen ounces. Another musician that went on influence future generations and considered one of the greatest guitar players in the world is Eddie Van Halen. Eddie Van Halen was born in Holland in 1955 and immigrated to Pasadena California. At the age of seven, Eddie was training as a classical pianist, although his love for Rock and Roll was developing. He started working a paper route and used the money to buy a drum set. His brother Alex, also musically inclined, bought a guitar. After months of practicing, Alex and Eddie switched instruments. He suggested that they let David Lee Roth be the front man, mainly to save the rent money on the PA system. David Lee came on board and thought the brother s last name sounded cool, and the rock group Van Halen was born. On one particular show, Gene Simmons from Kiss caught Van Halen at the local gig. He offered to help them out. Gene Simmons flew Van Halen to New York to tape a demo and introduced them to the Kiss production management. They had no interest in Van Halen citing that there was no commercial value to Van Halen, so the band went back to their local gigs in California. During a show in Hollywood, Warner Brothers records representative Ted Templeman saw their act and signed them less than a week later for a record deal with the Warner brother s label. They headed out on the road immediately and caught up with Warner Brothers headliners to open their shows. The other groups were not very pleased with the band, especially when Van Halen started getting better reviews. Van Halen was then off to England to open for another band that Eddie idolized, Black Sabbath. Ozzie was so impressed with the band that he admitted that Van Halen was outplaying Sabbath. From these two theoretical perspectives on clinical disorders, a new cognitive behavioral approach to obsessions and compulsions was born. In many respects, my own professional development has taken a path similar to that seen in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for obsessional states.
