Ethics in Cosmetic Surgery
Every year more and more people around the world are choosing to have cosmetic surgery. It seems to
be an easy fix to problems that people perceive, even if the problems are natural, like breast size. In a
sociological study done in the UK, the author found that [T]o have breast implants requires a major
medical procedure, but they are sold as a fashion accessory and the procedure is framed as a beauty
treatment rather than an operation by those who sell it (Taylor). While many cosmetic surgeries are
fairly simple procedures, there is very little benefit to outweigh the extreme risks, and many doctors
are more interested in making money than fully explaining all of the risks to their patients. Many
patients would be better helped by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of breast augmentation, part of treating an infection means removing the implants (Ho
Asjoe). Not only would the patient be sick from the infection, but they would not even have anything
to show for it. According to the study done by Doctors Yoho, Romaine, and O Neil, the occurrence of
infection after liposuction is as low as 1 in 107, with 1 in 70,892 resulting in death (Yoho et al 738).
They also provide information from a Dutch study, where half of 107 male patients who had
undergone abdominoplasty suffered from some sort of wound infection (Yoho et al 739). Many
cosmetic surgeries are targeted at older patients, who are much more likely to get an infection than
younger patients. Because the patients are older, they are more likely to also have other health
problems, such as diabetes. This also raises their risk factor for infection (Surgical Site Infections).
While infections do not tend to be deadly, there is always the possibility of something serious
happening. The most dangerous risk of infection is sepsis. This usually occurs in the hospital, after the
surgery. The patient would start out with just a fever and redness around the wound site, then if
antibiotics are not administered quickly enough, or if the infection is resistant, the infection can
progress and begin to shut down organs, leading to death (Sepsis). In order to help prevent infection,
doctors must make sure that the patient is in good health and able to keep

Literature Review On Promoting Mental Health And Reducing...
Literature Review
During formative years, children and adolescents spend a considerable amount of time at school
receiving instruction from an array of educators. While the continued focus of education systems is to
improve a child s academic skills, there has been a growing body of research which draws attention to
the social and emotional well being of students as well. Payton et al s (2000) article on promoting
mental health and reducing risk behavior in children and adolescents provides that SEL programs use
classroom based curriculum and instruction that center around improving emotional cognition of
children and developing pro social skills (e.g., empathy, sharing) when working with others.
Successful SEL programs decrease problem behaviors by improving positive behaviors as a
replacement, and can therefore help to further the social and emotional development of students while
improving their academics by helping them to recognize emotions and manage them as they arise. The
goal for SEL programs is to create more socially aware citizens by nurturing individuals (children and
adolescents) to have the motivation to work hard toward goals, create and maintain good personal
relationships, and later contribute to society. Although this change starts while these children are still
students, it will continue to positively affect them for the rest of their lives. Therefore, these programs
can serve to support, reinforce, and extend the learning beyond the classroom into

Morse V Frederick Case Brief
A student group in Des Moines school district met at Christopher Eckhardt s (a 16 year old student s)
home to plan a public display of their support for a truce in the Vietnam War. They decided on wearing
black armbands throughout the entire duration of the holiday season, and fasting on December 16,
1965 and New Year s Eve. The school district created a policy that stated any student wearing an
armband would be asked to remove it, with refusal to do so resulting in suspension. Eckhardt and
Mary Beth Tinker both wore the planned black armbands to school and were sent home, with John
Tinker following the next day. The parents of the three students sued the school district for violating
their rights of expression. What was the Supreme Court s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic Facts Behind Morse v. Frederick Student Joseph Frederick held a banner that said Bong Hits 4
Jesus during a school event. The banner was confiscated by the principal, Deborah Morse, and
Frederick was suspended for ten days. Deborah justified the confiscation of the banner and the
suspension of Joseph Frederick by mentioning a policy set by the school that doesn t allow the display
of material that advertises the consumption of illegal drugs. Joseph Frederick sued, claiming this
suspension and confiscation of his banner violated his right to free speech (42 U.S.C. 1983) The
Tinker v. Des Moines trial was cited, that extended 1st Amendment s protection to free speech in
students, unless the speech would cause some level of disturbance. Court Decision The court decided
that school officials are allowed to prohibit messages that promotes the use of illegal drugs. Although
students have the right to some political speech while in school, this right does not cover pro drug

Understanding The Purpose And Framework Of Taxes, Assist
Understanding the purpose and framework of taxes, assist with the understanding of the Tariff and
quotas. Tariff is a tax placed on import goods by the government. Nevertheless, when one thinks about
additional dollars added to the retail price of a good or service, it may be discouraging. Especially,
since there is an abundance of services and goods desired by consumers with so many wants, our
resources are scarce. Meanwhile, there is a constant debate concerning the effects of tariff that are
placed on imports and exports. Economist and scholars believe high taxes on imports and exports can
hurt the economy. Indeed, there are advantages and disadvantages concerning the Tariff . Tariffs

Meanwhile, according to Morelock, J (2017) Tariff has a clear number of results that may be an
advantage to some parties, while being a significant disadvantage to others. Tariff have an impact on
promoting American products, when the U.S government chooses to place a tariff on an import good,
the producer can choose to reduce their price to compensate for the tariff or to pass on the cost to the
consumer. (2) increase the government revenue, the U.S. government collect revenue in order to
economically support its function. (3) discourages trade, when American consumers choose to buy a
lower priced American product, foreign producers become disadvantaged, ultimately leading to less
trade with the U.S. Foreign producers are forced to reduce their prices to compete with similar
American products. (4) reduces consumer choice, individual consumer choice remains as one of the
greatest consumer benefits of international trade. When tariffs are placed on imported goods, the
increase prices and reduced trade prohibit individuals from all choices that could be available in the
market.
It s not difficult to visualize the possible dilemmas or disadvantages that may arise from tariffs, such
as equality, trust, and values. Therefore, global transfer pricing and business can suffer from ethical
issues. Laws and regulations should be taken seriously and professionally, while, excluding
favoritism. According to Habibullah,

British Petroleum Case Study
1 Introduction
1.1 Introduction to CSR and Ethics
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to companies taking responsibility for their impact on
society. It can bring benefits in terms of risk management, cost savings, access to capital, customer
relationships, human resource management, and innovation capacity.
Ethical dilemma, states that it is a situation that happens when two or more social work morals are in
conflict like the environmental pollution and the unsafely performance conditions. It is important for
the company s success is to act ethically.
1.2 Introduction to the Report
The report is aimed at CSR initiatives that have been and continues to be the subject of contentious
debate in recent years. Such initiatives entail that businesses do their bit, beyond what the law may
require them to do, to give back to the society in which they operate and make profits from. These
initiatives often do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this purpose another key element in British Petroleum s external communication is the set up of a
corporate website (www.bp.com) that gives extensive coverage of social issues, including detailed
annual social performance reports, value and mission statements, speeches by key corporate officials,
location studies, and detailed guidelines on ethical conduct.
British Petroleum has also developed an Intranet system for the purpose of communicating corporate
values to employees and business partners as well as guidelines and management control techniques to
facilitate implementation of corporate commitments. Even though British Petroleum does not
explicitly make claims to leadership on CSR issues, it recognises that British Petroleum has changed
its approach to social responsibilities, and that British Petroleum is praised as having been a catalyst
for change in the oil industry as a whole (Social and environmental review, 2000).

Comprehending The San Francisco Earthquake Of 1906
Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution. Albert Einstein. This quote
is telling us that we should be positive, even in rough times. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906
was one of the most significant earthquakes in U.S. history. It happened at almost precisely 5:12 a.m.
on April 18, 1906. The earthquake started about twenty seconds after 5:12, causing the first tremor to
shake the earth for about 60 seconds. More tremors came afterwards, starting to break down the city
bit by bit. The gas pipes broke, the buildings crumbled, and the streets cracked. Most of the tremors
lasted 45 60 seconds. In the two eyewitness accounts about the earthquake, Comprehending the
Calamity , by Emma Burke, and Horrific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This piece of evidence is from the account Horrific Wreck of the City and is showing the POV that the
earthquake brings out the worst in people. Terror marked their faces, and yet their voices indicated a
certain enjoyment that maniacs have when they kill and gloat over their prey. Hysterical women cried
and raved for those they loved when they were standing right next to them. page. 2 (para. 6)
Conversely, in the eyewitness account Comprehending the Calamity , the point of view is that the
earthquake brings out the best in people. I saw a mother and daughter sitting in the next nook, into
which four doors from flats opened. They were weary, and the girl almost fainting. Everything they
had was burned, and they had had nothing to eat all day, I told them they could go up in our flat and
sleep. I went upstairs and found two old comforters, and made them a bed. I gave them food, page. 2

Jet Personal Statement Of Purpose Essay
JET Personal Statement of Purpose (SoP) Advice The Statement of Purpose is the part of the
application which likely plays a huge part in any success. Take your time crafting the best Personal
Statement you can. Your SoP should elaborate on the strengths you ve brought up in your application,
and should refer to the traits JET is looking for. Provide brief anecdotes about experiences you ve
listed in the application. Show some personality, give the interviewers a reason to remember you.
Also, have other people look over your SoP. This is a professional calibre essay, not something for an
intro English class. Special note for UK JET applicants: The essays for Americans (Statement of
Purpose) and the British (Personal Statement) are relatively similar, so the following samples are of
use. Also, there s no definitive correct way to write a JET Personal Statement. Just as long as you ve
answered clearly the three questions required on the UK JET application it should be fine. You can
answer the three questions distinctly or, if you prefer, write it in one essay. However for ease of
reading it s suggested you break it into sections. Just don t muddle them up into an ill defined personal
statement without letting your personality shine through. An outline from JET UK for the personal
statement is here. The Top Ten DO NOTS: 1. Detailed discussion of mental or physical health issues.

Analysis Of The Poem The Bride
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe
is an old English rhyme that its exact origins are not fully known but was said a good bit in the
Victorian era. In 1894 a newspaper in Pennsylvania the Warren Ledger, had this poem in it and was
said to be a Puritan marriage tradition but many other areas started using it as their own tradition. By
going also with the poem the bride has to collect five objects from her things, family and friends. The
five objects are for good luck and a lot of the time they are family ones that have been handed down
from one generation to another. The bride will have to wear all the items the day of the in order to
have good luck. (Meaning of Something Old, 015) With each item the bride collects for the day of the
wedding represents something different. They something old represents her life, family and tradition.,
something new offers positive benefits for the future, something borrowed represents borrowed
happiness, something blue symbolizes purity, love and loyalty, and the sixpence in the bride s shoe is
for good fortune and prosperity. The sixpence in the shoe is mainly a largely used British tradition. A
sixpence is a sliver coin that was used form the 17h 20th centuries in Maryland as well as England.
(Meaning of Something Old, 2015) Many brides practice this in their own ways, using a blue garter,
old jewelry, something borrowed from someone and a new wedding dress. These days

How Does Dumas Deserve The Count Of Monte Cristo
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas that centers around the wrongly convicted Edmond
Dantes and how he takes revenge on those who convicted him while also rewarding those who took
care of his father while he was imprisoned. Despite being poorly reviewed by scholars, this novel is
still popular with the general public and is considered to be Dumas masterpiece. After reading this
novel, it is obvious that it does deserve the title of masterpiece . Dumas work is absolutely genius in
The Count of Monte Cristo, however the book itself is not untouchable like the Count himself. The
story itself is the epitome of romanticism, but it is only hindered by Dumas paid by the word length

Saintsbury states that there is no attempt at an impression of growing horror culminating in the
horrible death of Madame de Villefort and her child. The interest is frittered away in endless details
and episodes (Saintsbury 1). I agree that Dumas was far too generous in his descriptions and often
times these descriptions eliminated all sort of mystery or suspense in certain events. In fact, many of
the events that were supposed to be suspenseful were drowned out by massive amounts of words to
describe one scene. The depiction of Villefort s apartment was written as, in order to call Edouard, he
had to awaken the echoes of that apartment transformed into a coffin; to speak was to violate the
silence of the tomb (Dumas 483). the description of the apartment does provide a sense of creepiness,
but the sheer circumlocution takes away from the overall feeling of terror and suspense. However,
even without suspense, the novel still maintained my interest as vivid images of the scenes were still
available rather than being replaced with something vague. Saintsbury suggests that the dangerous
method of introducing long recitals by various characters in order to help on the movement and join
the intrigue is unscrupulously resorted to [in the novel] (Saintsbury 1). The perfect example is when

Paper On Claude Monet
Clandestine Memorandums The 1800 s were a time when art merely showed our three dimensional
world on a two dimensional plane. Claude Monet, a famous French impression painter, sought to
change these Victorian standards that he so resented with his Impressionist ideals. During an art
exhibition in 1874, Monet debuted his painting Impression, Sunrise which was critiqued by many
other artists. One artist acridly dubbed it the title of Impression in that it did not focus on the scene at
hand but instead favored lighting. However, Monet did not let this get to him and in fact, let it drive
him to push for change in the art community. Monet used colors, technique, and impressionism ideals
on to convey the new way that he believed art should be created. When one first ... Show more content

As visible in many of Monet s paintings, such as water lilies, the strokes used can be distinctly seen.
This visibility of strokes provoked critics to think that Monet had not properly finished the painting.
This notion was true in regards to Monet contriving multiple paintings of the same scene, however as
stated by Yurasits in Analysis of Claude Monet s Impression, Sunrise (2015) Every painting Monet
created had to meet a certain criteria before he could begin to consider it a finished piece, and even
then he could find the potential for change and growth in a painting and deny its completion (para. 7).
Monet, despite finding a piece finished, would go back any time that he felt the work no longer
matched his precedents. Although hard to tell from online images, Monet s works comprised of
bountiful heaps of paint. Critics were rather pleased with these paintings as they showed how Monet
used both the mixing of the pigments and depth to make his painting extract even more emotion from
viewers. Monet and his multifarious artistic techniques were quite effective in the ways that they
sought to extract

Maurice Ravel Allusion
Maurice Ravel by Isabelle Libbrecht
In partial completion of STTA English for David Block
Maurice Ravel was one of the greatest composers of the impressionist period, and through his
experiences as a musician and composer he managed to leave us with over 80 masterful works which
are still performed today. (Mawer, xi) Though not fully understood at the time, Ravel was
acknowledged as France s greatest living composer from the time of Claude Debussy s death to his
own, and he continues to be just as respected as Debussy. His precise orchestration remains expressive
and lush through means of written rubato and a vast array of instruments rarely paired together in a
symphonic setting. Taking great influence from his teachers but still remaining independent, Ravel
turned classical music on its head and constantly pushed the boundaries of what could be achieved by
performers in the 20th century. (Hecht 1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ravel was rumoured to have been in a relationship with his close companion Ricardo Viñes, and
although there is no concrete evidence of this it is true that Ravel never married and lived in a time
which was much less accepting of homosexuality. If this was in fact the case, it would make sense to
infer a large part of the reason Ravel kept this secret was to refrain from dishonoring his parents,
specifically his mother. (Irvy 17). Ravel composed two more works in 1897, one of which was the
famous Sonata pour Violon et piano in one movement, which was well received by the public (Hecht
1). This helped further his public image as a composer, though still involved with his studies at the
Paris Conservatoire. Ravel would grow to be of the opinion that Violin and Piano were incompatible
instruments and this sonata is full hearted, lush music on exalted heights of emotion (Irvy

Artificial Selection And Its Effects On Our Health
It would probably surprise most people to learn that broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and kohlrabi
all hail from wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea), due to a process called artificial selection. Over
thousands of years humanity has manipulated plants and animals using artificial selection. However,
we now have a different process called genetic engineering, which opens new doors to countless
applications such as, genetically modifying plants to become cold, resistant. Traditionally we would
have to rely on artificial selection, but now we can manipulate the genetic material of organisms.
However, with new technology comes an issue of environmental impact. The very same organisms
that we create can become exceedingly detrimental to the environment it s ecosystems. Concerns on
the effects of these organisms on our health are justified as they can be a benefit or detriment. To
better appreciate genetic engineering, we first must explore artificial selection and its history. Artificial
selection is the process in which humans breed organisms based on physical traits they want to further
enhanced or eliminate, in a way artificial selection relies heavy on the phenotype of the organism.
Which is the physical trait expressed by genes. An example would be the domestication of the dog.
Around 15,000 to 16,000 years ago, we began to breed wolves and actively select for tameness. Li et
al. (2013), found this rapid evolution was probably driven by artificial selection during the

How Jellyfish Affect The Ecosystem
Jellyfish can be seen in freshwater and saltwater inhabiting everywhere it goes. Some may see
jellyfish depicted in media such as the television show SpongeBob SquarePants as a fun recreational
sport of catching Jellyfish in butterfly nets. Though most may recognize the creatures as your worse
nightmare on a beach and avoiding getting stung by them. However, researchers and explorers have
found effects that jellyfish have on impacting the ecosystem and life style of others. These findings
have shown a divide between the benefits and negative outcomes they have.
Researchers discover an overgrowing size and population in jellyfish. Lindsey Bloomberg, it discusses
how jellyfish are affecting the ecosystem by showing research discussing the 2010 report by the
United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) based on ocean acidification stating there is an
increased jellyfish numbers and changes in fish abundance, which is from pollution, overfishing and
rising carbon dioxide. Due to their low oxygen intake they can survive anywhere from predator free
waters to algae choked expanses. Thicker masses of floating jellyfish will consume large volumes of
fish eggs and larvae, preventing fish populations from rebounding, states Lucas Brotz of the
University of British Columbia Fisheries Center, which shows the population of jellyfish are taking
over an already stressed ecosystem and dominating it even more. To further jellyfish taking over an
ecosystem is discussed by Oren Liebermann

develop leaders to meet the challenges of the 21st century because in the future leaders will deal a

The Symbolism of Death in Alistair McLeod’s The Lost Salt...
In Alistair McLeod s collection of short stories the Lost Salt Gift of Blood; death seems to be a
constant companion. Death is important and perhaps even symbolic in this collection of short stories.
It is important because it has the power to affect people and relationships, invokes freedom and even
predetermines ones future, through the death of animal s people and the impending death of others.
The first story In the Fall consists of 2 deaths, the death of a horse and a death of chickens both with
very different effects on people. The first death was the death of a horse who was a very close
companion or more like an old family friend to the family but with age Scott the horse had grown old

people and relationships within the story. In another story by McLeod called The Boat the death of the

Impact of Financial Crisis on Gulf Area Essay
Background The global financial crisis that was experienced in 2007/2008 affected many nations of

adversely affected as they were not directly hit by the crisis. This crisis started in the United States
after the housing bubble busted. Although the bursting of the housing bubble was the main cause of
the crisis, there were a series of events that preceded it. One event that indirectly contributed to this
crisis was the Russian debt crisis as well as the Asian financial crisis that took place in 1997/1998.

This foreclosure negatively affected both the financial institutions as well as individual borrowers. For
the borrowers, their wealth was drained and their purchasing power eroded (Martin, 2009). For the
financial institutions, their strength as banking institutions was greatly affected. Their liquidity had
greatly reduced and most of the banks were struggling to carry out their daily monetary activities. The
total losses that were recorded during this crisis were estimated to be trillions of dollars globally. The
Federal Reserve as well contributed to this crisis through some of the policies that it instituted.
Between the year 2003 and 2004, this institution lowered the rate of the federal funds from the initial
6.5 per cent to just 1.0 per cent (Jane, 2011). This move was aimed at addressing the effects that were
associated with the terrorist attacks that took place in September of 2001. These measures were also
meant to soften the negative effects that were occasioned by the collapsed dot com bubble. At this
time also, there was a perceived risk that the United States could suffer from deflation. These
measures were therefore aimed to combat this risk of deflation. These measures increased credit
uptake but the expected results were not realized. To address the said problems, it was expected that
the money borrowed would be invested in business.

Probiotics are ingestable microorganisms which gives the consumer a beneficial effect. First coined by

Analysis Of The Article Geeks On The World s Biggest...
After reading the article Geeks in Toyland by Brendan Koerner, I realized the importance of
organizational culture to connect the customers to the company. This article talks about the corporate
culture and leadership style of Soren Lund (Mindstorms product director). He was asked to come up
with a new version which is not a slightly improved model, but to create something completely
different. Each company has their own corporate culture. During my research, I came across a similar
article that talks about the corporate culture and leadership style of America s most successful
company, Apple Inc. The Fortune magazine article How Apple Works: Inside the World s biggest
startup by Adam Lashinsky explains how big company such as Apple Inc. really operates. By the time
he s finished, you ll probably still want to buy Apple products, but you may not want to work for the
firm. Apple s products have always been created by small teams working closely together, with no
outside intervention (apart from the management s directions). This was the case when it was first
founded in 1976 with only three people, and is true today with almost 25,000 people employed. In
Apple s early existence, these teams consisted of talented people hand picked by the senior
management (particularly Steve Jobs). Apple s organizational structure is relevant to the research

How Do Genre Films Reflect Reality
Hi Loc,
I agree with you that genre films do reflect reality. If the films do not have any emotional connections
with the audiences, it could be difficult to understand specific characters or situations in the movies. I
like how you brought up horror movies as an example and agree that horror movies would be based on
the real scared moments from the real life. I understand that many parts of the teen movies are
exaggerated, but people feel it could happen in reality because many of the stories actually happen in
their high school life. Every time I watch some exaggerated situations, such as playing the music and
dancing in the middle of the hallway at school as you mentioned, I feel like it will not happen in
reality but how the student are doing in movies is funny. I also think that the reason why many people
like watching high school movies is because they might feel great empathy for various situations in
the movies.

contrast and repetition in colors. Color changed as it has moved one triangle to another. In addition,
rhythm and repetition played important part in this design because the geometric shapes repeated more

The Emergence Of Applicant Tracking Systems ( Ats )
The emergence of applicant tracking systems (ATS) has gained a reputation beginning early in the

Examples Of Leadership In The Movie Invictus
Leadership at the Movies: Invictus and 5 Leadership Practices
December 20, 2009 by Beverley Simpson
Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood have created another very special movie now playing across
North America. Invictus is the story of Nelson Mandela s early days as President of South Africa, and
particularly how he viewed the country s Rugby team, the Springboks, and an upcoming World Cup
event to be held in South Africa, as an opportunity to bring the country together.
The year is 1995. Mandela (Freeman) is in his first term as President. He recognizes the tremendous
challenges facing his government in a land torn apart by apartheid. Racial tensions are at an all time

Pienaar is invited to meet the President and arrives at Government House with trepidation, uncertain
of the reason for the meeting. Mandela s personal style, his warmth, the way he treats everyone around
him with great respect and appreciation completely charms Pienaar who leaves with the realization
that something very significant has just happened to him. During their brief but meaningful time
together Mandela has skillfully Inspired a Shared Vision about the importance and meaning of a
Springboks win to South Africa.
The title of the movie Invictus comes from the Latin meaning Unconquered. We are led to believe that
Mandela had a poem written on a scrap of paper in his prison cell while he was incarcerated. In the
movie, Mandela gives the poem to the team captain Pienaar, before the start of the World Cup. At one
point in the story the Springboks are touring Robbin Island and Pienaar spends a quiet few minutes in
Mandela s old cell contemplating the kind of moral courage it would take to spend 27 years there. He

To start The Last Supper was supposed to be a modest wall decoration, but Leonardo was able to turn
it into a revolutionary artistic composition of The Last Supper. Leonardo chose to depict the moment
when Christ declared that one of them will betray him. The Apostles gathered around the table with
Jesus shocked and St. John couldn t believe the news and fainted, even St. Peter was so angered that
he pulled out a knife. In this painting, Judas is shown on the same side of the table as Christ, never
before has this happened in history. Judas is being shown on the same side of the table as christ, but it
is shown that he is leaning away betraying his guilt to the viewers. The Apostles are organized into
four groups of three, whom of which are all aligned on one side of the table. As said before there are
three windows behind the table while those windows are evenly spaced, those windows also have
three dark niches along each side, three of them being associated with the Holy Trinity. Although there
is quite a shock of news in this painting, it still remains pretty calm but its mood is very thoughtful,
questionable making someone think about what is being represented. Leonardo s Last Supper was a

Financial aid in higher education aims to make tuition fees affordable. According to Ehrenberg (2002)

of the Financial Aid Package (FAP) awarded to students on the basis of annual gross family income
and to what is known as level of need. Other criteria used by universities include family size, the

What Is A Myth?
A myth is a purely fictional story that has been passed on for generations, usually involving
supernatural persons, actions or events. Hercules (also called Herakles), is one of the strongest and
most celebrated mythical heroes. These myths were made up thousands of years ago and have
acquired more details as they have been passed down. The story of Hercules is one of a man who was
so strong and courageous, whose deeds were so mighty, and who so endured all the hardships that
were given to him, that when he died, Hercules was brought up to Mount Olympus to live with the

Hercules did receive some good news from Apollo. He told Hercules that after these tasks were

The 12 Labors Of Hercules
THE NEMEAN LION When Hercules arrived at the palace of King Eurystheus, his first task was to
bring the king the skin of a lion which terrorized the hills around Nemea. When Hercules arrived at
Nemea, he tracked the lion to a cave with 2 entrances. His arrows were useless against the beast.
Hercules decided to block one of the doorways and then approach the fierce lion through the other.
Grasping the lion in his mighty arms, Hercules held it tightly until the lion choked to death. Hercules
then returned to Mycenae, carrying the dead lion in his arms. King Eurystheus was amazed that
Hercules was able to accomplish this task. From this point on, the king became afraid of Hercules and
forbade him from entering the city. The king also began sending his commands through a herald,

The Effects Of Dyslexia On Children With Dyslexia Essay
Many learning disabilities world wide are over looked if a child doesn t learn at the rate of the other
children, but a teacher might assume that the student is mentally challenged. That might not be the
case. Students world wide struggle with the learning disability known as dyslexia. Dyslexia is known
for the way it twists words and numbers in ones head. It s almost as if the persons mind is playing a
trick on itself. The person might read the text backward or even say his or her thoughts backwards.
Just because one has dyslexia does not mean that he or she cannot major in any specific major.
Someone with dyslexia may choose which ever major he or she may like, although it will be harder
for the person and so they will have to put more time in and work harder than everyone else. This is
true in nursing students with dyslexia; they have to put more hard work in than anyone else and yet
they still might not be where they want to be.
In the article Experience of Nursing Students with Dyslexia on Clinical Placement by Christopher
McPheat, the author informs people that students with dyslexia need more help in the clinical setting.
He writes with a serious tone to let the audience know that this is not a light situation and to take it
very seriously. Although there is no greater risk of harm with nurses in dyslexia, they still need more
help. McPheat gives suggestions of how they could get help. The author who is a staff nurse has

Comparison Of Blake s Songs Of Innocence And Songs Of...
When regarding the different options I had in comparing two of the works we have already read this
semester, my mind automatically went to William Blake s Songs of Innocence and Songs of
Experience. Blake s examination of the duality of a single subject s nature lends itself perfectly to a
close reading such as this. When looking at the different options available to me in Blake s volumes,
Holy Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience versions) demonstrated this
duality clearly. The subject in Holy Thursday stays the same, however, the nature of the subject is
drastically different in each poem. In both Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience, the poem
titled Holy Thursday occurs on Holy Thursday. This was a special service at St. Paul s Cathedral in
London, which was held on the first Thursday in May. The tradition started in 1782, and this special
service was held for the poorest children in London. These children would be brought to the church by
their parish officers, serving approximately six thousand children. Both poems focus on this
procession of children to the cathedral, describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes
towards the event itself. These varying attitudes are what divides these poems that are so similar in
content to two drastically different creations. In Songs of Innocence, Holy Thursday opens with a
picture of a bright, cheery, and exciting event. Blake chooses crisp and clear language to describe the

the local people are stationary and employed in the tourist industry, spend a large portion of the time

about a member of a group without really knowing that individual is a part of prejudice. Some people
make judgments about a whole group of people without knowing very much about them. Sometimes
people are afraid of those who seem different from them and unfortunately, they express that with
name calling and negative treatment. When people grow up with these ideas, sometimes it s hard to
get rid of them. Like in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role Of Hardware And Software Improved Over Time
Since the release of Donkey Kong in 1981, platforming based video games have been concerned with
reaching a goal. From the early 1980s to the late 1990s, obtaining the objective fell under a linear, two
point process. For example, in Super Mario Bros, the player must guide the plumber to a flagpole in
order to complete a level. Once the player completes the thirty second stage, he achieves the
substantial goal of saving the princess. In contrast to the Mega Man series, the hero must annihilate
eight robot masters before defeating a diabolical, mad scientist. Essentially, the player is tasked to
complete an underlying objective before moving to the ultimate goal. However, as the aspects of
hardware and software improved over time, game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film is broken down into three attempts. While the events in the plot changes in each run, the two
point process is still embedded with the same exact goal. Lola must obtain the money (the preliminary
goal) and deliver it to Manni (the ultimate goal¬). In order to explain what I mean, I will break down
the first run followed by a summary of the second run. In the first run, Lola starts by running out of
her apartment building via an animated sequence, passing a man and his dog. Then, the film
transitions back to live action, where Lola is sprinting on the streets. Suddenly, she bumps into a
woman and her baby carriage. After a rushed apology, Lola runs along the side of a bicyclist who
attempts to sell his bike to the protagonist. She refuses and keeps sprinting. As she gets closer to her
bank (in hopes of accomplishing the preliminary goal), she nearly gets hit by a car, causing a crash
due to distracted driving. While Lola rushes into the bank, her father asks a mistress if he wants to
have a baby with him. Suddenly, and to her father s surprise, Lola enters her father s office and asks
for one hundred thousand German marks. However, in this one scene alone, Lola meets the mistress,
learns that the mistress is pregnant, and finally knows that her father is not biologically related to her
and that he plans to elope with the mistress. Lola s emotions

Analyse The Importance Of Being Earnest Satire Essay
The play, The Importance of Being Earnest, by Oscar Wilde was written during the Victorian Era,
characterized for its moral values. Throughout the play, Wilde used satire as comical relief to show his
deviance from the social order by making ridiculous the ideas of standards, morals and manners.
Oscar Wilde criticizes the superficiality of Victorian marriage and courtship through the character
Lady Bracknell and the name Earnest.
Lady Bracknell is presented by Wilde as the true definition of a satirical character. She uses satirical
comments to show her disinterest in Jack, the character that would like to marry her daughter
Gwendolen. Satire is expressed through the lines in which Lady Bracknell says, However, I am quite

Do you smoke? (Wilde 20) In these lines, exaggeration is placed in a way that makes the reader pause
to question what was just said. As the reader, it is anticipated that Lady Bracknell will begin asking a
series of difficult questions, but instead she voices a more straightforward question. During the
Victorian Era, the mothers had a certain criteria that they wanted their daughter s courter to be
compliant with. Wilde created the element of satire by basically mocking interview questions that
could have possibly been asked during the Victorian Era. Along with having a specific criteria,
financial stability was extremely important to people during the Victorian Era. This aspect of society is
mocked by Wilde when Lady Bracknell states, A hundred and thirty thousand pounds! And in the
funds! Miss Cardew seems to me a most attractive young lady now that I look at her. (Wilde 77) In the
lines prior to this one, Lady Bracknell is showing her detest towards Cecily until she asks about the
money she has and her financial stability. It is then where she decides that Cecily may not be that bad
of a girl at all. This presents

The Influence Of The Middle Ages In Medieval Europe
Were the Middle Ages in Europe characterized more by hope or desire?
The early middle ages in Europe were characterized by conflict. Vikings, Eastern tribes, and Muslim
armies battered the continent from all sides. Most of the emperors were too weak to fight off the
threats after emperor charlemagne. Powerful nobles independently controlled their own land, in which
they usually were servile to their emperor. Feudalism then became the main political, social, and
economic organization of medieval Europe. Serfs worked as primarily farms but could be called to the
war at any time. They didn t have many rights but they could own their own freedom and work on
their own land, but most of them soaked in misery.
Monarchs had limited power and usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They built beautiful cathedrals and churches as a sign of their faith in God. When you visit a medieval
church or cathedral you do not get a feeling of despair. I would personally say that the Middle ages
were characterized by hope. The believed and had a deep feeling for Christ.
Towns grew larger during the middle ages and were centre of craft, commerce and trade. People were
able to grow rich through their business skills. There was always hope that a poor man might be able
to improve his lot in life.Even peasants, who are sometimes thought of as desperately poor and
wretched, could improve their lot in life. some peasants were better off than others, and some even
became wealthy through accumulating land. There were technological innovations. Farming methods
were improved, and there were inventions like spectacles, and the printing press.
The middle ages was a period of nothing but hope. They always looked for the positive in things and
always looked at the bright side of everything. There wasn t a time that they thought bad about a
situation. They always believed that the best would happen because of Christ and I think that is how
they got through what the did and succeeded as they did. They were extremely

Categories of Psychotherapy
An early designation of psychotherapies divided all types of psychotherapy into two major categories:
insight oriented therapy and action oriented therapy (Woolley, Wampler, Davis, 2012). This
designation was made on the basis of the therapist s main focus in achieving positive change. An
insight oriented therapy focuses on assisting the client develop knowledge or awareness about
themselves as a major focus of change. The insight itself leads to positive change in the client. Action
oriented therapies directly focus on changing some behavior as opposed to relying on self knowledge
or awareness to facilitate the change. The designation is not mutually exclusive; in all action oriented
therapies some insight is gained and in all insight oriented therapies there is some direct change of
behavior. However, the designation is valid when determining the focus of the therapist regarding the
main target of the therapeutic intervention.
For example, Experiential Family Therapy attempts to facilitate change by means of a commitment to
increasing self awareness, self fulfillment, and expression or communication between family members
(Goldenberg Goldenberg, 2012). Clients are encouraged to examine their feelings, the family
cohesiveness, communication patterns, and reducing defensiveness and family members by unlocking
levels of experiencing and freeing people from impulsiveness and defensive reactions to one another
are the goals. The primary motor of change in experiential

The Poetry Of A Red Rose By Robert Burns
Robert Burns
Robert Burns A Red Red Rose On the romanticism era Robert Burns wrote the poem named A Red
Red Rose. In this poem Burns writes about his love for a girl and how strong and deep it is for her, as
he says I will love thee still my dear, till a the seas gang dry. Robert Burns was born on January 25th,
1759 in Alloway Scotland. Parents William Burns and Agnes Broun, his parents were farmers, though
they lived in that life of farming they wanted their son Robert Burns to have and receive a good
education and when he started getting the education they wanted him to have, burns also started to
read more and started to have a huge place in his heart for poetry. Burns father died in 1784 in
bankruptcy and then bruns and his brother Gilbert took over the farm, but that didn t stop him from
reading and getting influenced by different famous people. He was influenced by different poets like
Alexander Pope, Henry Mackenzie, and Laurence Sterne; His hard physical labour on the family is
what increasingly turned his attention toward the passion of poetry. Robert Burns turned his full
attention to poetry after what happened with his family and at age of fifteen he fell in love and wrote
his first poem, burns pursued both love and poetry. In 1785 he fathered the first of his fourteen
children and between 1784 and 1785 burns collected in his first collection which was Chiefly in the
Scottish Dialect and was printed in 1786 and was also paid for by

  • 2. Ethics in Cosmetic Surgery Every year more and more people around the world are choosing to have cosmetic surgery. It seems to be an easy fix to problems that people perceive, even if the problems are natural, like breast size. In a sociological study done in the UK, the author found that [T]o have breast implants requires a major medical procedure, but they are sold as a fashion accessory and the procedure is framed as a beauty treatment rather than an operation by those who sell it (Taylor). While many cosmetic surgeries are fairly simple procedures, there is very little benefit to outweigh the extreme risks, and many doctors are more interested in making money than fully explaining all of the risks to their patients. Not only would the patient be sick from the infection, but they would not even have anything to show for it. According to the study done by Doctors Yoho, Romaine, and O Neil, the occurrence of infection after liposuction is as low as 1 in 107, with 1 in 70,892 resulting in death (Yoho et al 738). They also provide information from a Dutch study, where half of 107 male patients who had undergone abdominoplasty suffered from some sort of wound infection (Yoho et al 739). Many cosmetic surgeries are targeted at older patients, who are much more likely to get an infection than younger patients. Because the patients are older, they are more likely to also have other health problems, such as diabetes. This also raises their risk factor for infection (Surgical Site Infections). While infections do not tend to be deadly, there is always the possibility of something serious happening. The most dangerous risk of infection is sepsis. This usually occurs in the hospital, after the surgery. The patient would start out with just a fever and redness around the wound site, then if antibiotics are not administered quickly enough, or if the infection is resistant, the infection can progress and begin to shut down organs, leading to death (Sepsis). • 4. Literature Review On Promoting Mental Health And Reducing... Literature Review During formative years, children and adolescents spend a considerable amount of time at school receiving instruction from an array of educators. While the continued focus of education systems is to improve a child s academic skills, there has been a growing body of research which draws attention to the social and emotional well being of students as well. Payton et al s (2000) article on promoting mental health and reducing risk behavior in children and adolescents provides that SEL programs use classroom based curriculum and instruction that center around improving emotional cognition of children and developing pro social skills (e.g., empathy, sharing) when working with others. Successful SEL programs decrease problem behaviors by improving positive behaviors as a replacement, and can therefore help to further the social and emotional development of students while improving their academics by helping them to recognize emotions and manage them as they arise. The goal for SEL programs is to create more socially aware citizens by nurturing individuals (children and adolescents) to have the motivation to work hard toward goals, create and maintain good personal relationships, and later contribute to society. Although this change starts while these children are still students, it will continue to positively affect them for the rest of their lives. Therefore, these programs can serve to support, reinforce, and extend the learning beyond the classroom into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote is telling us that we should be positive, even in rough times. The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 was one of the most significant earthquakes in U.S. history. It happened at almost precisely 5:12 a.m. on April 18, 1906. The earthquake started about twenty seconds after 5:12, causing the first tremor to shake the earth for about 60 seconds. Analysis Of The Poem The Bride Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe is an old English rhyme that its exact origins are not fully known but was said a good bit in the Victorian era. In 1894 a newspaper in Pennsylvania the Warren Ledger, had this poem in it and was said to be a Puritan marriage tradition but many other areas started using it as their own tradition. By going also with the poem the bride has to collect five objects from her things, family and friends. The five objects are for good luck and a lot of the time they are family ones that have been handed down from one generation to another. The bride will have to wear all the items the day of the in order to have good luck. They something old represents her life, family and tradition., something new offers positive benefits for the future, something borrowed represents borrowed happiness, something blue symbolizes purity, love and loyalty, and the sixpence in the bride s shoe is for good fortune and prosperity. The sixpence in the shoe is mainly a largely used British tradition. A sixpence is a sliver coin that was used form the 17h 20th centuries in Maryland as well as England. The interest is frittered away in endless details and episodes (Saintsbury 1). I agree that Dumas was far too generous in his descriptions and often times these descriptions eliminated all sort of mystery or suspense in certain events. In fact, many of the events that were supposed to be suspenseful were drowned out by massive amounts of words to describe one scene. The depiction of Villefort s apartment was written as, in order to call Edouard, he had to awaken the echoes of that apartment transformed into a coffin; to speak was to violate the silence of the tomb (Dumas 483). the description of the apartment does provide a sense of creepiness, but the sheer circumlocution takes away from the overall feeling of terror and suspense. However, even without suspense, the novel still maintained my interest as vivid images of the scenes were still available rather than being replaced with something vague. Saintsbury suggests that the dangerous method of introducing long recitals by various characters in order to help on the movement and join the intrigue is unscrupulously resorted to [in the novel] (Saintsbury 1). Claude Monet, a famous French impression painter, sought to change these Victorian standards that he so resented with his Impressionist ideals. During an art exhibition in 1874, Monet debuted his painting Impression, Sunrise which was critiqued by many other artists. One artist acridly dubbed it the title of Impression in that it did not focus on the scene at hand but instead favored lighting. (Mawer, xi) Though not fully understood at the time, Ravel was acknowledged as France s greatest living composer from the time of Claude Debussy s death to his own, and he continues to be just as respected as Debussy. His precise orchestration remains expressive and lush through means of written rubato and a vast array of instruments rarely paired together in a symphonic setting. Ravel composed two more works in 1897, one of which was the famous Sonata pour Violon et piano in one movement, which was well received by the public (Hecht 1). Artificial Selection And Its Effects On Our Health It would probably surprise most people to learn that broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, and kohlrabi all hail from wild cabbage (Brassica oleracea), due to a process called artificial selection. Over thousands of years humanity has manipulated plants and animals using artificial selection. However, we now have a different process called genetic engineering, which opens new doors to countless applications such as, genetically modifying plants to become cold, resistant. Traditionally we would have to rely on artificial selection, but now we can manipulate the genetic material of organisms. However, with new technology comes an issue of environmental impact. The very same organisms that we create can become exceedingly detrimental to the environment it s ecosystems. Concerns on the effects of these organisms on our health are justified as they can be a benefit or detriment. To better appreciate genetic engineering, we first must explore artificial selection and its history. Artificial selection is the process in which humans breed organisms based on physical traits they want to further enhanced or eliminate, in a way artificial selection relies heavy on the phenotype of the organism. Which is the physical trait expressed by genes. An example would be the domestication of the dog. Around 15,000 to 16,000 years ago, we began to breed wolves and actively select for tameness. If the films do not have any emotional connections with the audiences, it could be difficult to understand specific characters or situations in the movies. I like how you brought up horror movies as an example and agree that horror movies would be based on the real scared moments from the real life. I understand that many parts of the teen movies are exaggerated, but people feel it could happen in reality because many of the stories actually happen in their high school life. Every time I watch some exaggerated situations, such as playing the music and dancing in the middle of the hallway at school as you mentioned, I feel like it will not happen in reality but how the student are doing in movies is funny. When regarding the different options I had in comparing two of the works we have already read this semester, my mind automatically went to William Blake s Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. When looking at the different options available to me in Blake s volumes, Holy Thursday (both the Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience versions) demonstrated this duality clearly. The subject in Holy Thursday stays the same, however, the nature of the subject is drastically different in each poem. This was a special service at St. Paul s Cathedral in London, which was held on the first Thursday in May. The tradition started in 1782, and this special service was held for the poorest children in London. These children would be brought to the church by their parish officers, serving approximately six thousand children. Both poems focus on this procession of children to the cathedral, describing the state of the children and the varying attitudes towards the event itself.
